Live hour two in Los Angeles. It's the herd. Wherever you may be and however you may be listening. I heart radio, Fox Sports, Radio FS1. I don't mean to be a jerk. Joy Taylor, I don't mean to be a jerk, but both New York football teams stink, and both L.A. teams are amazing.

And I think it's because of people like to live here or something, maybe. Matt Stafford could have gone anywhere. He chose L.A. I don't know. I was just talking during the break. If you just took all the Western teams in the Western part of the country. Yeah. And the West, even the PAC 12, whether it was good or not, it was always good with offense.

Because our weather is good. You don't have to ground the football like the Big Ten. If you took the Seahawks receivers, the Niners receivers, the Rams and the Chargers receivers, the Raiders receivers receivers, Arizona's receivers, and I'll count Denver's receivers because they're considered West. We have like 20 Pro Bowl receivers. Like the Western teams in the NFL over the last six years have just all gone in on wide receiver talent. They'll overspend for it.

They'll go for it. They'll draft it. You know, everybody doubted D.K. Metcalfe. They didn't. I mean, it's, you can't find a team Denver West that doesn't have like three big time receiver talent. It's incredible how good. I mean, God, the chargers. Did you mention Arizona?

Yeah, Arizona. Yeah. And Cooper Cup. and then Robert Woods and then they had Van Jefferson and now they got Deshawn Jackson like the fire power out west you can have a good defense.

It doesn't matter. You're in shootouts every week. Everybody's got vertical threats. Yeah, the defense thing, I mean I'm a defense girl, obviously. I think it's very important to have a good pass rush. Yes. But you got to score points. In 2021, you cannot stop. Nick Saban ignores.

Unless your defense also scores points. helpful as well. Baltimore's did that for years. Yes. Right. Well, they always have a great defense. But yeah, I mean, it's been some incredible offensive play so far. Yeah, the New York teams are, just a little struggle.

I love New York. So do I. One of my favorite cities in the world. But they've been, that football state, all the good footballs in Buffalo. It's not, it's not playing in Jersey. Yeah, that's true. We should not disrespect Buffalo. By the way, what is Buffalo done?

Stefan Diggs, Cole Beasley. So Buffalo's, you know, people thought Cole Beasley was overpaid when they got. Stefan Diggs is a big risk. Buffalo has said, no, no, no, we're just going to spend money for wide receivers. Like, you can have, like, it's like the Raiders. You can have a lot of problems. If you got a quarterback and wide receivers, the rules now are all for you. When Nick Saban acknowledges, I can't really stop a good offense.

Yeah, as long as you don't turn the ball over. Just, it's just, I'm just watching these Western teams. I'm like, God, the talent is in. insane at wide receiver. Jersey Mike's app. I have it. It's great. Here we go. Where Colin was right. Well, I said, Joy and I both said this with Justin Herbert before he came to the NFL. What doesn't everybody like? 6-5 runs, huge arm, 4-2 biology major.

We said it's like arm size IQ. it looks like Andrew Luck. Like, we didn't get all the doubters on this. He dominates the senior bowl. He dominates his first year. He dominates the Rolls Bowl. No turnovers in a shootout with Patrick Mahomes. And I'm not saying he's better than Patrick, but I don't see the gap.

The only gap I see is experience. Like Patrick Mahomes is better because he's had more snaps. But, I mean, Anthony Lynn and Staley, a couple of young coaches. And this kid is, I mean, and you can tell the way he throws. He's got confidence in his arm, in his intellect, and the coaching staff has confidence. They let him throw that ball. That's Andrew Luck. They let him throw that ball down the field.

There's no dumping off dink and dunk stuff here. Where Colin was wrong. I was wrong in the Raiders. I said it last hour. Nine receivers caught balls. And by the way, they're winning close games. You've got to give them credit for this. It is hard not only to win in the NFL, they have won three straight.

close games. Hey, that's hard for Belichick. That's hard for Andy Reid. Andy Reid lost a close game yesterday. So Gruden has got the offense rolling. They got special teams help. They got defensive help. They went down 14-0 and then scored 25 straight.

It was a wildly entertaining game. Where Colin was right? I know, I know. Lamar Jackson can't throw. Did you see that throw late in the game that set up the game-winning field goal? I'm going to let you watch it here on television. and 19. You tell me this guy can't throw. He had two drops by Hollywood Brown yesterday, by the way. One was a sure touchdown, or it would have been better. The game wouldn't have been

this close. But he's a lot better passer than you think. He's 32 and 8 as an NFL starter. And I'm telling you right now, not a lot of guys in the league are making that throw. Looks a lot like one of those Aaron Rogers throws. Lamar Jackson is a playmaker. And when he has to make big throws at 32 and 8, he often can make that. Hollywood Brown crushed him yesterday with two huge drops. Where Colin was wrong. I like Joe Judge, I think, but it's 0 and 3. It's bad.

Their red zone offense is anemic. Way too many penalties. With Sequin Barkley, they can't run the football. I mean, I could blame the GM. This is an organization that's won. The defense is not as good as I thought. Listen, it was Eli Manning Day, and they're booing Joe Judge and the owner,

I knew the offensive line was bad, and I didn't think the Giants would be good, but it feels like they've lost the momentum they had at the end of last year, and some of that falls on coaching. Where Colin was right? Been selling my Big Ben stock for two, three years now. He's an old man.

You don't need film. You need eyes. He's a shot fighter. A story came out this weekend that internally, the Steelers organization is very concerned that it's done this early. Well, why did you re-sign him? Did you watch the end of last year?

He wasn't in the same class as Baker Mayfield in those last two games. He is done. I mean, some of this footage is just hard to wrap your brain around. It's brutal. And I, you know, that's why I said, sometimes upsets happen in this league, and you just got to forget they beat Buffalo. Because Buffalo would crush them today. And they don't have a plan.

They have coddled Ben for so long. They have no succession plan. Dwayne Haskins is a finger cross. That's a succession plan is Trey Lance. Okay, this is not a succession plan in Pittsburgh. Where Colin was right? Sam Darnold's 3 and O. Zach Wilson's 0 and 3.

Just saying, 68% completion percentage, 99 passer rating. He has cut down on mistakes. And it really illustrates how poorly run the Jets are. I said I understood the Jets moving off Darnold so they could reboot the contract and have a free quarter. quarterback. But I told you, I said, Zach Wilson's going to finish in fourth. Robert Sal is the fourth best coach. And Darnold just needs support. We don't know if Matt Rule is a great coach. And the Panthers offensive line is bad. He just needed competency. At this point,

that's what we know he has. We know Joe Brady and Matt Rule are competent. And Darnold, 3 and O. Where Colin was wrong. I'm a big Carson Wince guy. At least I was, but his completion percentage, folks, he's 58%. And it's not like there's not weapons. He made some really poor throws yesterday. He's always been a little too reckless, but so was Darnold. But it's not like he's throwing a lot of picks, but he's just missing too many open throws.

I was not a fan of what I thought was a dumb COVID stance. Get the shot. Get the vaccine. You're a quarterback. You can't go in every week crossing your fingers on COVID. protocol. Get it done. Be a grown-up. He's been a big disappointment. A major disappointment. Now, some of the Colts O line is banged up, but Carson went to this point is not worth the money. Where Colin was right? Well, we set all offseason. We really thought the Denver

Broncos had a top 10 roster. We love their talent. We just didn't know if we didn't think Drew Locke was the answer. Well, their defense is now number one rated in the NFL. They're 3-0. Teddy Bridgewater is completing 77% of his throws. He has no interceptions. And by the way, Denver's doing this despite some really bad injuries. Pash rusher Bradley Chubb has been hurt. Yesterday, KJ. Hamler got hurt. Jerry Judy. So they're not healthy. So this is a football team. They stuck with Vic Fangio. They went out, they drafted a corner who's great. Patrick Sartan. And then they went and stole one from Chicago, Kyle Fuller. So this is a real good defense now.

Elite corners, elite pass rush. And we told you, if they can get the quarterback right, this is an excellent roster. They've got in every unit, they have got a star. Tight end, wide receiver, O line, corner, pass rush, multiple units, they have a star. They just had to stop beating themselves. Where Colin was right? I've been an advocate for a long time with Notre Dame head coach Brian Kelly. And for years, Notre Dame was overrated.

I totally agree. They're now underrated. Just take out Alabama. Take out one program in the country. Who can't they play with? I can play with Ohio State. They can play with Clemson. They can play with Georgia.

They can play with LSU. They beat LSU today badly. But not only did they beat Wisconsin, 4113, but I like what I saw. It's a young football team. So they're not a great football team. They're going to be very good next year. This is a tweener year. And they're struggling to put teams away.

But they scored a special teams touchdown. They scored defensive touchdown. They scored running touchdowns. That is a well-coached team. They are scoring in every facet, and I'll give them a pass this year. They may not beat Cincinnati this week because they're very young. But this is a well-coached football team. You take out Bama, they can play with everybody.

And it's a private school, and it's got lousy weather, and there's not much to do socially, and it's hard to get in, and they can't recruit everybody like a lot of these schools can. There's a religious umbrella over the school. This is not an easy place in 2020. one to be as good as they are. And I think Brian Kelly has never, ever gotten a respect. He may not be likable. You know, he stumbled.

There was a tragedy on campus early. We all know that. But that was an impressive coaching win. When you're scoring, throwing it, running it, special teams, defense, that was a complete coaching masterpiece with a young team that is, I mean, they're struggling with like your Toledo's. They're not right now a great team. but they housed Wisconsin in the second half.

Colin right, calling wrong. Good stuff today. That's first time I was taking a breath in an hour and a half. There's a lot going on. There is. I got some thoughts on the Seahawks. There's a weird thing happening in Seattle.

We have to address this. Brandon Staley coach of the Chargers. That was a big win. You know, I mean, listen, I don't know if it's bad luck, but man, the Chargers have given away a lot of wins. of the years. They lead the NFL in doinks, balls hitting the upright. I mean, they've had so many games. You're like, that's a better team. And they just lose like inch and off sides an inch. It's like the NFL gods owed the Chargers a win yesterday. Like they got one back

yesterday because it could have gone either way. And, but they had, they won the turnover battle four turnovers by Kansas City. They should have won tough place to play. We'll talk about that. I'm going to tell you something. We got some teams. Look at that. Look at Darnold. You can tell Darnold in that picture is looking at Dallas and he's saying, I'm going to go for no. Get used to it. Oh, I love Darnold.

Yes. USC may be a mess, but Darnold. The last time U.S. You have never, you were ahead of the curve on Darnold. Okay. USC. He did back off of your 12 and 5 prediction before the beginning of the season. USC since Darnold left has been exposed.

He carried them for several years. He leaves. They've never recovered. The great Sam Darnold. Although I kind of like Dallas in that game. I'm not going to lie. Well, let's wait after tonight. All right.

Mike Silver joining us co-host of the Pass It Down podcast. NFL reporter. So you, the subtext, there was a story beyond the story. Matt Lefleur Packer coach. and Kyle Shanahan, Niner Coach. And you had a Twitter thread Friday about this, is that game wasn't just about the players. Is there a little animosity now?

We thought those guys were buddies. Is there animosity between the Packer Coach and the Niner coach? Well, I think people saw that post-game scene where two longtime friends and colleagues kind of just brushed past each other and maybe went back and looked at the Twitter threat and said, hmm, but, you know, Matt LaFleur had a really stressful offseason, and he thought he was going to lose his guy. And keep in mind, Matt LaFleur went 13 and 3 twice,

got to the championship game twice, his first two seasons as a head coach with Aaron Rogers. And, you know, I think he knows that if you take that resource away, it's much, much tougher. Obviously, there was a lot of uncertainty, intention in that organization about whether they were going to get him back. And, you know, I shared an anecdote that took place right before the draft where there was a FaceTime call. You had Mike LaFleur, Matt's younger brother, now the offensive coordinator of the Jets, and Robert Sala,

close friend of Matt LaFleur, former 49ers defensive coordinator. Mike LaFleur had been with the Niners. Mike McDaniel, the Niners' offensive coordinator's on. There's some other coaches. Kyle walks into the room and got a little awkward and to the point where Kyle got upset by Mike LaFleur basically saying, can you blame my brother for not calling you back? And got really upset and kind of stormed off right before the start of the draft, literally minutes before. And so, you know, look, Matt LaFleur and Kyle both said leading into the week, hey, this is nothing. And I hope that's the case because they have a great history. but very, very sensitive time for Matt LaFleur over the offseason.

And I think he felt like if we're really friends, you should understand that. And I think the counterpoint from Kyle's perspective would be, bro, I coach the Niners. I'm trying to give us every chance to win. And if I can get Aaron Rogers, I have to investigate that. But there's some layers to this. And I think you saw it boil over after the game. Aaron, the knock on Aaron, and I think it's a fair criticism, is a lot of people, myself included, said, dude, you got to be invested. This sport is Brady, Russell Wilson. Offseason, they are living and eating and breathing this sport. And you're not going to be a quarterback for, you know, the rest of your life. But when you're there, you've got to be invested in this stuff. And it was a little too kumbaya and Hollywood for a lot of people. But last night, Aaron looked totally invested. What did you make of that?

I mean, first of all, yeah, do you have to be invested when you can get the ball back and throw those two passes and get your team in field goal range? It's just he does, you know, Kyle Shanahan had said during the week, he's the best thrower of the football I've ever seen. And I think people would be surprised in our little world how people feel about Aaron Rogers versus some of the other greats we put up there just in terms of ability. And, you know, look, it was a different Packer team that came out there. And, of course, what we talked about with LaFleur and Shanahan factors into that. But this was not just a head coach who had a rough offseason. You had Joe Barry, the defensive coordinator, who, after two games, people wanted to fire. Right.

Look how his unit came out and played. Look how they stopped the run. That first half by the Packers was a statement. To the 49ers credit, they managed to get all the way back into the game. Kyle Ushik was absolutely balled out of his mind. Jimmy, two third and tens on that last drive. And they took that game from them, and then Aaron Rogers did an Aaron Rogers thing. And he looked pretty invested when it was over.

Well, we have Brandon Staley, new coach of the Chargers last hour. That was a, you know, we were saying during the, last segment, nobody's given away more wins than the Chargers over the last 10 years, regardless of GM coach, it doesn't matter. And you were talking to Brandon Staley, you were talking to him right after the game. His thoughts about what happened, because I got to tell you, for Justin Herbert, that was the first statement. I mean, we all know he's talented.

That felt like a plant the flag game. That's the first big one for him. Yeah, and it was fourth and four, and you had a chance to kick a go-ahead field. goal. He chose not to, which is validated by the fact that his kicker later missed the extra point and had missed one earlier. But even when they had a penalty that made it fourth and nine, he still went for it. So that's a Brandon Staley flag plant. This is a guy who five years ago was in D3 and believed in his mind he was going to be in this position against all odds. And that audacity is how he coaches. And so, you know, after the game,

he said, you'd do the same thing if Justin Herbert was your quarterback. And I maybe believe that, but what I really believe is, and if Patrick Mahomes was on the other side. Right. Think about what Patrick Mahomes is provoking now. John Harbaugh, yeah, we're going for it on fourth down in our own territory. Absolutely. I don't want Patrick Mahomes to get the ball. Brandon Staley, no, three points is not enough. I need to go forward on fourth and nine and score a touchdown, keep throwing, and then hope my kicker makes an extra point, which he does it, but got away with it, obviously. So it's a combination of he clearly

didn't have faith at his kicker, justifiably. He knew Patrick Mahomes was lurking, and yes, what he said. He has that much belief in Justin Herbert. And you're right. I mean, if you took Patrick Mahomes out of the equation, if you had a draft right now, you could start a franchise with any player as is. You know, Baham's would go one. Lamar would be very high in that conversation, but Justin Herbert's in that conversation for two right now. Yeah, you know, it's interesting.

So, listen, McVeigh, he wanted Stafford. Now, it should be noted. So did eight teams. So Carolina wanted him. Everybody wanted Matt Stafford. The Colts wanted him. We all know that. Matt's a talented kid.

Nobody disputes that. But it is interesting. You could tell by the way they drafted the Rams and the acquisition of Deshawn Jackson. What they wanted to do is get more chiefs like, get more over-the-top touchdowns. And to this point, it's working. Like that. My takeaway is, you know, you see in the off-season what a team wants to do, and you know, Mike, it doesn't know it was work. But what they wanted to do is they couldn't score an 11-play-dra.

They wanted to be, they wanted a knockout punch. They wanted to be more Tyson than Larry Holmes. They wanted to have the ability, and I got to be honest, I think they're a handful right now. I think your thoughts. I mean, first of all, remember, they went into Tampa pretty late last year and went Tyson without Matthew Stafford. So it's not like we've never seen this, but yeah, Deshaun, who by the way, not only hasn't lost his speed, but hasn't lost his propensity for doing maddening things on the way to the end. And he kind of did that little taunt, and the guy had an angle on him. I mean, imagine if he had lost the ball there.

But, of course, he didn't. You know, it's a tough division. The Cardinals obviously have our attention at 3-0. The Seahawks, I don't think, are going to stay down forever. And I think the Niners are still as good as any team in the NFC, and we'll get their stuff sorted out. So what is striking to me, Colin, is not only as the. the offense working the way Sean McVeigh wants to, but I was a lot more concerned about the

defense. And I love Rahim Morris. I think he should be a head coach again and will be a great head coach. But just the thought of Rahim having to come in after one year of Staley, kind of running some of Staley stuff when he comes from a different background. And it just, they're a very top-heavy team, as you know. So you need Aaron Donald and Jalen and Stafford. All those guys have to be great and healthy. It just seemed like, you know, it could really fall apart on defense early. And the defense has been a revelation. So I want to, I don't want to overlook that. And I think Rahim Morris is showing me and everyone else that even when you walk into a tough situation, it's, you know, this guy can coach a little bit. By the way, I'll throw this out there from a source I trust.

Rahim Morris throw his hat in to the USC football job. That, was suggested to me this weekend by somebody of note in the NFL that Rahim will get a second NFL job when he was in Tampa at the time that didn't have a lot of money and they didn't spend a lot of money. Tampa now is spending a lot of money. So to your point. By the way, a minute left. Did I whiff on Gruden? Are they just good? Did I make a big mistake on Gruden? What do you make of this Raider team? Well, I said year one, he was going to turn them around instantly. So maybe I whiffed a couple times, but I'm still foul tipping. You know, the offense was that good or getting that good last year.

The defense just had to be okay, right, for them to win a bunch of games. And the defense has gotten better. So Gus Bradley clearly has made an impact. And some of those guys, you know, you saw Trayvon Mullen battling. They're playing better. And so I think that's the blueprint. You don't, this is going to be a team that, you know, Gruden thought he could just come back and outscore people.

And it didn't work. And Patrick Mahomes happened. And, you know, you know all the rest. But, yeah, to me, why I thought Gruden would make an instant impact is what he did the first time in Oakland was staggering. It's rarely been done to change a culture that dramatically. And so that's always stuck with me. Yeah. Mike Silver, great seeing you as always, buddy.

This is the herd line news. Mm-mm-mm. What happened? It's New York football teams. Oh, my God. So the Falcons kicked a game winning field goal in the final seconds to secure their first win and keep the Giants winless. Apparently, as the ball was sailing through the uprights,

a loud bang could be heard coming from the press box, and Giants co-owner, John Mero was seen walking away. from the press box with two garbage cans laying on the ground. According to the New York Post, he was asked if he would talk about what happens, and he responded with no, and kept walking. He was booed during the halftime when he spoke,

during the halftime ceremony to retire, Eli Manning's jersey. I know, that was not great. And induct him into the ring of honor, and he apparently went back to the press box and said, I would boo too. We're down O&2, and we're down at the half. They were down 7-6 at the half, took a 14-7 lead, and then allowed 10 unanswered fourth quarter points.

You know, it's funny, I watched Daniel Jones. He's a hard read for me. I got to be honest, Joy, he's big and he's athletic. His arm's not great, but it's fine. I don't, I wouldn't bail on him yet. I still said, get me to Thanksgiving with him. I can't blame him for all this. The offensive line is so bad that Saquan Barclay now is irrelevant.

They can't run the football. So it's, you know, Daniel Jones is one of those, like Tua, I don't see it. Joe Burrell, I do see it. Justin Herbert, I do see it. I'm right in the middle on Justin Herbert. I don't think it's fair to judge him with that offensive line. I just, it's, there's- The problem with the Giants is they don't have a whole lot of time left.

And they don't have any cap space because they spend so much money. And they don't, like, they don't have a whole lot of patience. They're now down 0-3 to start the season, started 0-5 last season. They've started five straight seasons, at least. two losses. So you've got to do better. This is the New York football Giants. This isn't, you know, this is not a team that's going to go overlooked.

It's a lot of eyeballs in New York City. There's a lot of Giants fans. This is a cornerstone organization in the league. Like, it has to be better. You know, it's really funny about New York. So they've had a lot of bad teams for a decade. Like seven, eight years of just junk. And if it wasn't for Kevin Durant, moving to Brooklyn,

I mean, Kyrie Irving, you can't trust going to Brooklyn. It was Durant who basically pulled James Hardin in. So Kevin Durant, if you take Kevin Durant out of the New York sports scene, it's a mess. The Yankees have underachieved. The Mets fell apart. The Jets are awful. The Giants are awful. I mean, Kevin Durant's basically holding it up by a thread.

Because remember, we could go into Kyrie Irving segments here. You can't trust him to build a franchise. So Kevin Durant basically talked Hardin and to get out here. So it's just a weird New York for all their money and glamour And it's just a There's just a lot of messes It's been a struggle

And look, it's not that they're unaware That this is not good enough But you know How many times do you keep resetting If you don't keep resetting And you keep going with what's not working I don't know I just I really don't know what the fix is there

I would suggest probably updating the offensive line Maybe going all in on that Because you're right Seiquan is a star And he can't get anything can't get anything going. Nothing. And then what does Daniel Jones have if he doesn't have an offensive line in a running game? Yeah. And you've watched the Giants. They end up throwing a lot.

I mean, this game was hard to watch. It was on one of my screens. They throw a lot on third and eight. Well, you can't win in this league with a young quarterback with a bad old line throwing on third and eight. You're just not going to win any games. Well, kind of a surprising loss for Bill Belichick, 28 to 13 to the Saints. And I've got to give the Saints a lot of credit. They've been in a hotel for five weeks. And that's a lot to deal with.

And this game had the weirdest bounces. There were just so many weird plays in this game. But I will say this, in the moment, this team that's been on the road for five, they made all the big plays. Both sides of the ball. They made the plays. I'm very impressed with the Saints. Well, Bill Belichick was not happy, of course.

After a loss, he's not very cheeky. and he wasn't entertaining any questions about his rookie quarterback. Bill, what did you see on Max's interceptions? By the same thing you saw. It's so bad. It's just so bad. Oh, man. Well, Mac Jones said, obviously no one likes to lose here.

The patrons have done nothing but win for a long time, so we have to get back to that. He had 270 passing yards, one touchdown, and three interceptions. He's also sacked twice, and the Saints finished with 11 quarterback hits. So he also lost James White to a hip injury, which was not great. It was kind of a weird situation at the end of the game. I didn't see this. So Mack Jones was seated on the bench and James Winston walked over after the game to do the postgame, you know, shake hands, whatever. Well, a few seconds later, Jones was headed onto the field to chat with other Saints players.

But Bill Belichick kind of grabbed his wrist and kept him from doing it. So it wasn't caught on camera, but we have some pictures in the Boston Sports Journal. And it was also reposted on Pat's Nation Instagram. It was just like kind of a weird thing. Just stay away from the Saints players? Yeah. It's just odd. Which I don't think Bill Belichick is going to explain himself.

But it was just kind of another like a little weird moment there at the end of the game. So this has been my defense of Matt Nagy. Bill Belichick now can't win games with the young quarterback. If you don't have the quarterback right, I mean Robert Sala, they can't even get first downs. Like folks, you can always blame the coach. There are certain things in life that we all acknowledge. Driving in a snowstorm is hard. The best driver with the best tires and chains in a snowstorm, it's difficult.

It doesn't matter how good of a coach you are. When you got a young kid and he's figuring the game out, it's really, really hard. It's hard, but I also think you have to be realistic. If it's a rookie season, stop trying to make it seem like you should be out here winning games against, you know, I mean, listen, the Saints going in there and doing that is still very impressive. And like having the circumstances around the season the Saints have had and for them to be winning like this is impressive. But to your point, great defense, well-coached offensive line, good offensive line, greatest coach of all time. And they haven't asked Mack to do a lot.

And it still went the way it did. Like you just have to be patient. And also in this game, they did finally ask him because he was trailing early and they asked him, you're going to have to throw. And the Saints knew he had to throw. And so good advantage of it. And he was awful. So he did get a bad bounce on one, but it wasn't a very accurate ball and it went off his guy. But, I mean, that was, again, that wasn't a perfect throw.

But this is a prime example. Garapolo, in the face of a defense, was great last night. And Derek Carr has been in three games. The minute Mac Jones was asked, we talked about it before the draft, oh, you trail now. It's not Alabama anymore. And you have no running game. And it's like the pass rush is substantial. This is the first time in Mac Jones's life.

Yeah. So that's more about the question, right? Like it's the same thing with Justin Fields. I don't expect young quarterbacks to win those games. I don't expect young quarterbacks to not have a game where they throw for three or four interceptions. It's how do you bounce back from that? And in certain players who have never experienced that kind of controversy before, you know, if you play for a smaller school, you're probably playing from behind. You're probably having to make those throws.

Without good players. Right. So how do you react to that? And that's the question. So the Niners took a one-point lead and signed the final minute. minutes, 37 seconds. Too much time for Aaron Rogers. Too much time.

Zero timeouts. The Packers got a 42 yards into range for Mason Crosby's 51-yard game-winning field goal. Just a pleasant evening of football to watch. Just glorious. Well, they got a 3028 win, and Aaron Rogers was waxing poetic about the final drive. Matt actually suggested that play on the sideline,

that first play, which was something we actually worked on. Friday practice kind of scribbling in the dirt and it worked out perfect uh just put it right over Fred said got us kind of down there a little bit we need one more play um how could he not be romantic about football man week one was an anomaly i said that and i believe that we bounced back week two played a great football team tonight right down to the wire and this plane ride is going to feel incredible no one was freaking out after week one no one thought that that's how your season was going to go. No, listen, it's, it was, bottom line is, that's why it's America's game.

Yeah, it's great. It's just crazy. That game, you know, in the end, the bad calls, I got me more emotionally connected. I was screaming at the officials for three hours. And the NFL is so good that even when the officiating, and this was a poorly officiated game, it happens, okay? It, it happens. We've seen bad, umpired World Series games.

That even added to the drama. There were so many weird calls. You were just infuriating. and in the end you're like, I'm going to bed. It was fantastic cinema. You couldn't write it. But listen, this was, I felt like this was going to be a more significant game for the Packers than it was for the Niners. Because of how this season has gone and how the offseason went and everything that Aaron is saying leading into this game,

I don't think that anyone was overreacting. They were reacting to the way that you lost to the Saints, which is fair. But nobody thought that they were going to be terrible and lose to the Lions and like all this other stuff. This was the game, actually, that I think was important to prove what the Packers are this season. This was a great win for the Packers. And Aaron obviously does what Aaron does. So, like, he is one of the few people on planet Earth that can do that, which is why I've defended him so much in the off season.

Because there's like three guys on Earth that can do what he did in 37 seconds. And we were all there to see it and witnesses. Yeah. Good stuff. Joy with the news. Well, that's the news. So next hour, Brandon Staley coach of the Chargers stops by in a thrilling win. It's a big day in Los Angeles. Sorry, New York, but it is a big day in Los Angeles for NFL football. It just feels so glorious right now. So what's wrong with Seattle? So they lost again to what we perceived to be as, kind of an average team. Well, listen, Pete Carroll's defense is now last in the NFL. It's 26th on third down. It's 21 in points per game. Despite having the best middle linebacker in the game, the secondary

is kind of a mess. They're kind of a mess at corner. I think Pete Carroll has too much say in personnel. This has been my opinion. What do they do well that's not directly connected to Russell Wilson? And the answer is not much. And what has happened the last three weeks, the exact same things happened. The offense never has the ball. So yesterday, the Vikings ran 21 more plays than the Seahawks did. Russell Wilson becomes a spectator. Last week against Tennessee, Tennessee had the ball almost 43 minutes. Seattle never had the ball.

Russell Wilson becomes a spectator. Even in their win over the Colts. What happened? The Colts had the ball with a banged up offensive line, 36 minutes. Seattle had the ball 24 minutes. So Seattle comes out with their new offensive coordinator, and they're very good offensively early, but then they dry up. And it's not Russell Wilson. It's not the wide receivers.

This is what I've said for the last three years. I'm a Pacific Northwest guy, but I've said, take out Russell. What do they do well? This is why a lot of people in Russell Wilson's camp are very, very frustrated, and they had to go out publicly last year. They've missed on a lot of number one picks or a lot of first round picks. They're bad at corner. they overpaid for a safety, who I like, but two first rounders for Jamal Adams. What safety is worth two first rounders?

Carolina today got a great corner, a great corner. C.J. Henderson for a third round pick. And corners are more valuable than safeties. But it's the same thing over and over. Russell Wilson, the way to beat a good quarterback is make him watch the game. That's what Cleveland did to Mahomes in week one. First half. My homes were never on the field.

And so I go back to this. Bill Belichick's the best football coach in my life. But even he admitted this offseason, he had to listen to his scouts more in drafting. You cannot be a GM and a coach at the same time. Since Paul Allen has died, Pete Carroll has too much power in the organization. Their drafts have been weird for several years, weird again this year. You've got to empower people beyond Pete. Russell Wilson's frustrated.

He is watching these games. That is what he's doing. He's just watching the games. He's never on the field in the second half. I want to talk about the Chargers went over Kansas City. And, listen, Mahomes has earned the right to be called, you know, great. Like, I get that, number one quarterback. Whatever.

I don't care about the list. But teams will tell you what they think of the quarterback based on the plays they call. New England, ding, ding, think, think, think. That tells you what they think of Mac Jones's arm and knowledge of the system. You go look at the statistics yesterday for Justin Herbert on the road, 26 to 38, 7 yards per pass play. And when you watch Justin Herbert play, it reminds me so much of Andrew Luck, but Herbert's got a better arm. Between IQ size, Andrew Luck, I could tell he had confidence in himself. With a bad old line, I'm throwing it right down the field.

And with that, come some interceptions. Justin Herbert, he doesn't care. The fourth down call by the Chargers. You're not doing that with second year quarterbacks in this league. They do it with Justin Herbert. Herbert, when you watch his confidence, he throws the ball right into the defense, right into the seam. That's a guy who trusts his knowledge of the system, trusts his knowledge of the system, trusts his arm.

You can really tell. I mean, I watch the Minnesota Vikings, and I can tell they don't trust Kirk Cousins. I watched the Niners last night until that last drive when Garoppolo had to throw. I always wonder if the Niners trust Jimmy Garapolo. It is amazing how much trust Herbert has in himself and how much the coaches have in Herbert. That is a tough place to play. Kansas City on the road can't hear desperate chiefs.

Fourth and four, nope, we're going for it. And by the way, I'm not saying he's better than Mahomes. There is not a quarterback in this league that makes it look easier than Justin Herbert, except maybe Aaron Rogers. I mean, Aaron makes it look easy, right? Like it's a country club, back foot throwing. Herbert is like that. Like it is, that ball just comes flying out of his hands. It's a Nerf ball on Thanksgiving with the family.
