This is an I-Heart podcast.
Guaranteed Human.
Another podcast from some SNL, late-night comedy guy, not quite.
Unhumor me with Robert Smygel and friends.
Me and hilarious guests from Bob Odenkirk to David Letterman
help make you funnier.
This week, my guest, SNL's Mikey Day and head writer, Streeter Seidel,
help an a cappella band with their between songs banter.
Where does your group perform?
We do some retirement homes.
Those people are starving for banter.
Listen to humor me with Robert Smigel
and friends on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts.
Imagine an Olympics where doping is not only legal, but encouraged.
It's the enhanced games.
Some call it grotesque.
Others say it's unleashing human potential.
Either way, the podcast's Superhuman documented it all, embedded in the games and with the athletes
for a full year.
Within probably 10 days, I'd put on 10 pounds.
I was having trouble stopping the muscle growth.
Listen to Superhuman on the IHard Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts.
A win is a win.
A win is a win.
I don't care what I'm saying.
Yep, that's me, Clifford Taylor the 4th.
You might have seen the skits, my basketball and college football journey, or my career in sports media.
Well, now I'm bringing all of that excitement to my brand new podcast, The Clifers Show.
This is a place for raw, unfiltered conversations with athletes, creators, and voices that not only deserve to be heard, but
celebrated. So let's get to it. Listen to the Clifford show on the I Heart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcast. And for more behind the scenes, follow at Clifford and at TikTok's
podcast podcast on TikTok. On the Look Back at it podcast. For 1979, that was a big moment for me. Eighty-four's big to me.
I'm Sam J. And I'm Alex English. Each episode, we pick a year, unpack what went down, and try to make sense of how we survived it with our friends,
fellow comedians, and favorite authors. Like Mark Lamont Hill on the 80s.
84 was a wild year. I don't think there's a more important year for black people.
Listen to look back at it on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts.

So I went on a hike yesterday.
I try to hike.
But, you know, like, stuff around my house in the state parks,
it's a hike, but it's not really a hike.
Yesterday I went on a hike.
Oh, you had to bring snacks and stuff?
Oh, I didn't bring snacks, just water.
Because you can live for four days.
As you're getting eaten by bears, you can live for four days without food, but you can't live like an hour and a half without water.
So I got water everywhere.
I got nothing to eat.
I am so not that person.
In the Bahamas, there's like a little, like a tiny little trail on the island that said like beach access.
I walked to the top of the hill and was like, nap, some people get murdered, forget it.
Change my mind.
I like hikes.
You know what's amazing, too, that always makes me feel good about the country.
So I want on this hike up in the mountains in Utah, like 9, 10,000 feet, right?
And you know who I saw up there a lot of?
People from the South, people from Texas.
You know, it's like, you know, they had their Clemson hat on or their Texas A&M or their Arkansas hat on.
It's hot in the South, obviously, in the summer.
But I love to see Americans leaving their region, trying new stuff.
And it's like—
I love that for Americans.
I do.
Try new stuff.
Be comfortable with being uncomfortable.
Leave your block.
Yes.
Let me talk to someone new.
Yeah.
But it was great.
It was like all these Souterners up in the mountains in Utah.
And it's like, that's the way it.
it should be. Come enjoy the West. We'll go to the South sometime. My daughter can't wait to go
to Louisiana. That's her big thing now. I love Louisiana. Got to go to New Orleans. I'm like,
all right, then go to New Orleans. Crawfish. It's very good. Try it. All right. We call it
Colin right. Collin wrong. Plenty of both. And here we go. Where Colin was right?
Well, I told you at Oklahoma. I said, Baker Mayfield's going to get himself in trouble.
And stories out Friday, Jason Lloyd of the Athletic said that the Browns viewed
Mayfield as too childish and immature.
His behavior, quote, annoyed teammates divided the locker room.
He was difficult to coach.
None of it surprising based on many of the things they saw in college that played out in the public eye.
Here's an example of Baker Mayfield and his snarkiness.
Well, when the penalty happened and we're behind the chains.
No, no, stop saying, but.
I just told you the clock was running and we had a penalty.
Do you want to give them the ball back?
No, you don't play.
You don't know it.
That's just plain and simple.
Was I happy with the drive?
No, we didn't score points.
That's the dumbest question you could ask.
What?
Jesus, Tony.
Can't do that as a franchise quarterback.
And if you're defending it, you just don't get it.
You can't do that.
Brady made 20 years of not once doing that.
Not once.
Where Colin was wrong.
Well, the NFL ranked its top 10 quarterbacks,
according to execs and coaches.
And outrageously, Derek Carr is not in it.
outrageously, Derek Carr, who leads the NFL in fourth quarter comeback since he entered
the league is not in it.
They put him in honorable mention, which is not very honorable if you ask me.
They had Dak Prescott at 10.
I got him more around 13 or 14, but Derek Carr does not make the NFL.
I've said before, he retires after one more great year.
I'm putting him in the Hall of Fame.
I don't care what anybody on my staff thinks.
Most underrated quarterback in the league by a mile.
There's not even a second.
Because we all agree on everybody else.
Derek Carr is the big disagreement in America.
I like him.
The rest of you don't.
And you're wrong.
And execs are wrong.
And the coaches are wrong.
And the players in this poll are wrong.
Where Colin was right.
Well, I said, Kevin Durant needs the Warriors.
A lot more than the Warriors need Kevin Durant.
Steph Curry was asked about Kevin Durant at a golf tournament in Tahoe this weekend.
He said, quote,
I like where we're at.
meaning no thanks.
Listen, I think I said if you could steal him,
I mean, if he gave me Wiseman for Kevin Durant straight up,
I got to make the move.
You have to make the move then.
But the Warriors don't really want him.
Why should they?
They won without him.
Where Colin was wrong.
I said last week, I thought the perfect place for Jimmy Garoppolo was Tampa.
He knows Tom.
Tom's leaving after a year.
He'll be fine with it.
Garapolo can learn the system.
And when Tom leaves, Tampa doesn't have a quarterback.
But according to Don Yeh, his agent, the report last week that he would consider Tampa
or they're working on it is wrong.
Rick Stroud, my friend at the Tampa Bay Times, said not a chance.
So the Garapolo to Tampa Bay Buccaneer insinuation, I didn't report it like I knew it.
I just thought it would, I thought that's the best place for him.
Everybody said there's no chance.
So I'm wrong.
Where Colin was right.
Well, it's definitive now, Mark Stein reporting that the Lakers and the Nets,
they're in serious trade talks for Kyrie Irving.
They're talking about picks now.
Apparently, the Nets want a first round pick, and the Lakers won't give one up.
I don't understand the Lakers.
The picks in 2027.
The kid will be 19 years old.
He won't be playing until 2030.
It's 2022.
Nobody in L.A. cares.
Make the deal.
But this cannot be denied now.
Westbrook is on his way out.
The Lakers don't like him.
and I said, don't listen to anybody when they tell you how much they love Westbrook.
They want him out of the building. They want Kyrie in and now it's official.
Where Colin was right?
Chad Holmgren is exactly what we thought he would be. First of all, he's got a beautiful jumper.
You can't deny that. He's got some Dirk Novitsky. Second of all, his body's an issue.
I don't know why people get defensive when you compare him to Sean Bradley. He looks like
Sean Bradley. He's going to get pushed around. That's why I've said I'd give him 50 games. I'd give him a 22 minute
the night minute limit. You can't play this guy 80 games and 35 minutes. He'll fall apart.
Everybody bristles at that. He's exactly what we thought. 25 pounds shy from a full NBA season,
but crazy skilled. When 7'1 guys are dropping it behind their back and pulling up,
that's got Dirk Novitsky written all over it.
Where Colin was wrong. Damian Lillard, proud to be a blazer, signed the new contract.
I thought he would really look this time.
Listen, he's a loyal guy.
He was loyal to Weber State.
He goes back to their reunion games every year.
He's loyal to the Blazers.
I think fans love that.
I worry about Bradley Beale and Damien Lillard.
I think there's a huge market for both.
In fact, I've said with Dame before, outside of Steph Curry, and maybe including
Steph Curry, if you told me one guy to take a shot, five seconds left, I think
Dame's first or second in the NBA.
He is one of the all-time great small shot men.
I mean, and I'm talking the list as Steph, Dame, maybe Kyrie Irving.
I mean, he is all-time stuff here.
And I love him as a guy.
But I thought he'd look around and he's a loyal guy.
Where Colin was right.
Vaughn Miller wanted to be a cowboy and the cowboys low-balled him.
Oh, boy.
You know who didn't?
Buffalo.
Folks, I've been on this now for about two months.
The best teams in the NFL paid the right positions.
The Rams, Buffalo, the Chiefs.
The Niners, Cincinnati now.
They pay a quarterback, weapons, edge rusher, top corner, left tackle, shocker.
The Cowboys now don't have Randy Gregory or Vaughn Miller, but they pay a running back a fortune
and they like to pay their linebackers.
And, you know, they got Zach Martin's making a fortune.
It's not about paying.
It's about who you pay.
And this is what worries me about the Cowboys is that there's too much meddling, not enough,
outside opinion, and this is a bad move.
They have no pass rusher in a sport where all the best teams are paying four or five positions,
and that is absolutely one of them.
In fact, the Chargers went out and got another pass rusher to go with Bosa.
You can't have enough.
Where Colin was right.
I said college football and the media and the fans covering it need to exhale.
The Big 12 and the Pac 12 if they join are going to be fine because if teams,
like Baylor. And Baylor this weekend was picked to win the Big 12, and that's while Texas and Oklahoma
are in the Big 12. I think sometimes people don't understand how good Baylor is and how good Oklahoma
State is, and how good Oregon is, and how good Utah is. Oklahoma State and Baylor won 12 games
last year. Baylor was picked to win this conference, and Sark has put together, what, two or three
straight great recruiting classes? And Oklahoma's a top five program. Take a deep breath.
the SEC and the Big Ten going forward are going to be the big dogs.
But if the Pact 12 brings over their better teams to join Baylor in the Big 12,
it is going to be a fantastic college football conference,
as good as probably any except the SEC.
So take a deep breath.
Baylor is now a top 10 program.
They're a little bit like Oregon 10 years ago.
They've emerged, not historically great, but they got money, they got the coach,
They got momentum.
They got recruiting.
Where to go, Baylor?
Yeah, I said this last week that Baylor's been a better football program for the last decade.
Not like a year.
Not like two years.
Baylor's been a better football program for over a decade than Texas.
So like Texas may be going to the SEC.
Baylor's real.
And by the way, women's basketball, men's basketball, football.
It's like a top athletic department in the country.
Greg Jennings is listening to me, go on and on and on and on.
So, you know, it's funny.
You know I wasn't a Baker guy, and I like my quarterbacks to be quarterbackial
and my presidents to be presidential.
So when you watch Baker blow up at that reporter,
if you were on that team and you saw that like on the screens in the locker room or something,
and you saw that going on, what would be your feeling?
You may not verbalize it, but what would be your feeling if your quarterback was battling
like that regularly with the media?
So first and foremost, it would be a, it would be slightly different because being in a locker room with an individual, you kind of know their tendencies and you kind of know who they are outside of the media being present.
And so with knowing some of the guys in that locker room, Jarvis Landry, Odell Beckham Jr., like they're going to go to bat for a guy like Baker Mayfield because he's passionate about the game.
obviously he has issues with talking too much and saying the wrong thing.
And he displayed it right there showing that he's a little bit of a hot head.
He's going to feel like he's right.
He knows what he's doing, what he's talking about.
And he wants it to be done his way.
When you get into a position like that and then you get labeled,
which I've always said this, everyone in a national,
Everyone in sport has a label at some point throughout their career. Once you're labeled, it is on you to either confirm that or to oppose that. How you do that is displayed every single day. Baker Mayfield fell into the trap and the Cleveland Browns did not want to stay in that marriage with him. So they get rid of them. And it is what it is. But you can't do that as a quarterback, as a leader.
You can have moments, but when you have repeated moments over and over time and time again,
you become the problem instead of the solution.
Yeah.
So it's interesting about this stuff.
One of the reasons I've said I've downgraded the Packers this year is I have a resume and a history with Aaron,
and he's got a little bit of trust issues.
It took him a while to trust Donald Driver or Greg Jennings or Jordy Nelson or Devante Adams.
The history is you've got to show him, he's got to trust you.
And I think later in his career, even more so now, because there's a legacy to protect,
Aaron makes you earn that trust.
Throwing in Sammy Watkins and an FCS receiver, I'm like, okay.
Matt Stafford recently said he is in constant communication with Alan Robinson,
the new Rams receiver, in constant communication.
And I look at Aaron and I think, I'm not sure if Aaron's a constant communication guy.
do you have some doubts based on Aaron's history, a bunch of new guys, no number one.
Do you have some doubts about going forward what it's going to look like?
It's interesting you say that, Colin, because from the outside looking in, yes, that is the case.
He does make you earn his trust.
But typically when you think about Aaron Rogers in his career, when he took over for Brett,
that offense was pretty much established.
Donald Driver was eight, nine years in. I was two years in then. So the offense was already
established. He entered himself and then the guys who came after kind of had to wait.
They don't have that right now. Alan Lazard, yes. Is he a veteran? Is he a smart player?
He's not the guy that you're going to just completely lean on and say, hey, Alan, this is your team now?
No. So with that being the case, he's always had at least a one person that he can rely on
that this is my guy. I don't think he has any other option now other than to hurry the process along.
So I think we're going to see a different Aaron Rogers. I think we're going to see a guy that's like,
look, I got to take chances. We're going to have growing pains. He understands this.
How he deals with it is going to let us know how successful this team.
is going to be. How he nurtures it is going to let us know how quickly this team is going to be
right back in the fold of contender. Yeah. So I think, you know, we're a couple of weeks out from camp
and most guys are in reasonable shape. I, you know, I think there's, I think Minnesota is going to be
the most improved team in the league. I've said that. I think Kirk Cousins has a new deal.
They have an offensive coach. I think last year the locker room was bad. I also think the
divisions. I don't think Green Bay's is good. I don't know what I'm getting from Chicago or Detroit.
So I think Minnesota is going to be the most improved team in the league. I think the most
interesting team could be Miami because they have literally pivoted from Brian Flores, kind of a rigid
defensive guy, to a Kyle Shanahan, very quarterback friendly offense. Jalen Waddle, Cedric Wilson,
Tyreek Hill. And people think Tyree is a deep threat. But about 75 to 80 percent of Tyreek stuff is
bubble screens and slants.
Everybody wants, you know, Andy Reid got him the ball really fast and let him go.
Connie, your expectations, I think Tua's limited.
Maybe you don't.
What do you think Miami looks like this year with all the weaponry and Tua basically facing a
show us or you're gone here?
I actually think they're going to be a really good team.
And if we think about Miami, even last year, they were a good team.
Like, defensively, we know they're going to be stout.
And when you look in that division, you have to be able to be stout defensively because everybody
else is going to pretty much be stout in the Wainland, the bills, Robert Sala with the Jets,
they're defensive-minded coaches.
So what does that mean?
That means your offense, your quarterback, has to be able to either manage the game successfully,
not turn the ball over, or just be a flat out Allen, like Josh Allen type guy.
We know Tua is not that guy.
What he has to do is just manage the game. Be smart. Understand when to take chances, when to make plays with his arm, and when to allow his offense to be what it is. And I think that's what's going to help him successfully progress as a player. He's got a coach that's on the offensive side of the ball now in his ear at the helm. And he's going to thrive simply because just like Kyle Shanahan, they're going to try to run the ball. They're going to try to support him with the
running game, not just those guys that they got. We understand we have, you call us icing.
We're just loved by everyone because of what we do from a skill set at the wide receiver position.
But you can't just solely rely with a young guy like Tua who hasn't proven that he can
hold the team on his back or carry the team on his back. You got to rely on more than just him
and that's the running game. And I think that's what they're going to do. If they can do that,
they'll be successful this year.
So Rams won a Super Bowl.
You tell me, when you win a Super Bowl, is camp harder?
Is it hard to get motivated?
What do you expect?
Was it harder for you?
You know, you got that ring.
Everybody loves you.
You're on all the commercials.
Is it a little harder to get motivated?
No.
So here's the thing.
It's not harder to be motivated.
You want to do it.
You want to capitalize on that success, that personnel that you know you have coming back.
And so is it?
harder to get motivated? No, it's harder to stay motivated the entire season and to stay hungry
like you were previously when you've never tasted that feat. When you haven't tasted
winning a championship, that's all you think about, that's all you want. There's very few
that's why Tom Brady is such an anomaly. LeBron James, guys, because they're not thousands of
athletes that just have that psyche of, you know what, I won last year. It doesn't matter. Erase the
slate. Let's start back over. I'm just as hungry. I'm even more hungry. I got even more to prove.
There are not many players like that. There's not many athletes that have that type of mentality.
With that being said, the Rams will be hungry. I think they understand they have another opportunity
to do something special. After this year, things might change for sure. Greg Jennings, good seeing you, bud.
Likewise.
All right.
You know, one thing that helps the Rams a little bit is that Stafford has seen the bottom of the well.
And so he got a taste of what it's like to be in the good neighborhood like, you know?
It's like you don't want to go backwards.
Like it's when you see the depths, the bottom of the league, and you know what bad ownership's like.
And you know what that feels like.
And then you get a taste of great.
You do not want to go back.
That's a real motive.
I think that really helps the Rams.
complacency won't be an issue. Now, can they stay healthy?
Well, you need breaks. You need a little luck on your journey to a championship.
That plays a part. It doesn't take anything away from what you accomplished, but we know things have to fall in place as well until you become a dynasty.
And then we, you know, assume that you're going to win every single year like the Patriots.
What an amazing story, Matthew Stafford.
Like when you really think about, especially that organization in Detroit, like what he dealt with to then go and win a championship and now we're like the Rams of the top.
of the league. It's pretty fascinating.
I said last week is that
I want Kevin Durant to go somewhere
that wins because I always
feel like
I understand why recruits choose Ohio
State and Alabama. Of course.
I'll go win games. Like you
can sell somebody on, hey, make Purdue
number one. They've been trying to be
number one for 100 years. I don't believe in struggle
competitions. I'm out on that. Yeah, you are. You're a big
believer in getting... Out on that. Yeah.
Kevin Durant spent nine years
in Oklahoma City and Seattle.
You got nothing for it.
He has earned his right to do whatever he wants with his career.
I'm not saying, you know, you should skip the line and go to the top.
But if you think that's Kevin Durant's story, you don't know how to read.
I don't know to tell you.
Like, he's earned the right to be able to do this.
You were at the Bahamas this past week.
You weren't at the next Bahamas.
No.
You just wanted the Bahamas.
No, people will say this all the time.
You took the easy way out.
I think every day of my life, I'm looking for the easiest way to get through work.
I'm not looking for a harder way to do things.
I've had a hard way to do things, whether you think so or not.
I don't need to prove that to anyone.
Yeah.
And believe me, life's still going to make a way for you to have things to do and things to work on.
But that's just not the case.
That's not the case with Kevin Durant.
It's not true.
It's not true with LeBron.
LeBron was in Cleveland for seven years.
Couldn't get him an all-star.
People make it seem like he just popped in the league and was like, I just don't like it here.
Move me.
Seven years, they couldn't get a legitimate number two.
He went to the Olympics and went, wow, it's fundamental.
to play with great players. I'm going to go to Miami and play with great players. How long is he
got to do it? Yeah. This is the show from this point forward. Our branding is we don't struggle here.
We're not interested in the struggle. We're not going to brag about the struggle. We are here
for the good times only. Ice cream for breakfast.

remember when Diana Ross double-tapped Little Kim's boobs at the VMAs?
Or when Kanye said that George Bush didn't like black people.
I know what you're thinking.
What the hell does George Bush got to do with Little Kim?
Well, you can find out on the Look Back at it podcast.
I'm Sam J.
And I'm Alex English.
Each episode, we pick a here, unpack what went down, and try to make sense of how we survived it.
Including a recent episode with Mark Lamont Hill, waxing all about crack in the 80s.
To be clear, 84 was big to me, not just because of crack.
I'm down to talk about crack on day, but just so y'all know.
I mean, at this point, this is the second episode where we've discussed crack.
So I'm starting to see that there's a through line.
We also have AIDS on the table right now.
Thank you for finishing that sentence.
I don't think there's a more important year for black people.
Really?
Yeah.
For me, it's one of the most important years for black people in American history.

Sometimes when we're in the pursuit of the thing, we get so wrapped up in the chase
that we don't realize that we are in possession of the thing.
And we're still chasing it.
And we don't know when we've done enough.
Because people scoreboard watch.
Life becomes about wins and losses.
Steve Burns, Dustin Ross,
because you find it important to be a good person while you hear on earth?
Are you a good person because you're afraid?
Because that's two different intentions, bro.
Absolutely.
And that's two different levels of trust.
I want you to just really be a good person.

It's the 2022 All-Star Game from Dodgers Stadium, July 19th, on Fox.
So this is interesting.
The Department of Justice.
Yes.
The United States Department of Justice is investigating.
the PGA for anti-competitive business malpractices.
Anti-competitive behavior.
Yeah, meaning the PGA tour is a charity.
They've given golfers exemptions forever.
And suddenly, we are going to talk to your agents.
We're going to make demands.
We're going to cut you off.
Uncle Collins has been on the right side of this.
You all think golfers are hypocrites.
The PGA are the hypocrites.
They've been letting, they've been sharing golfers with the world.
forever. Suddenly, a PGA doesn't want to let these guys play on the live tour. Why not? Golf's
a sport of exemptions. They're all independent contractors. You don't let him play in the masters.
PGA doesn't run the masters. You don't let them play in the British Open. You give them exemptions
to play on the DP tour. That's the European tour, Canadian tour. You give exempt, but you won't
give an exemption for the live golf tour. Who's the hypocrites? The Department of
of justice.
When the DOJ guys knock on your door,
yeah, we'd like to talk to you about some anti-competitive behavior.
You better listen.
It's funny, though.
The charity.
I thought charities were full of nice people.
The charity suddenly, talk to the hand, can't plan the live tour.
If you do, you can't play here.
All right.
When your history is letting guys play all over the place,
and they play at the U.S. Open, PGA doesn't run that.
The U.S.GA runs that.
All right.
Joy with the news.
No, no, no, no, no.
Turn on the news.
This is the herd line news.
I mean, it's not a league.
It's an organizing arm slash charity.
Who are they to tell golfers when they can golf and when they can't golf?
Well, we'll see.
It's getting messy.
I mean, it was already messy, but that's not a knocky one on your door.
So Baker Mayfield finally got the trade he's been waiting for.
The Brown sent him to the Panthers.
and since then reports have come out
about how the Browns organization
really felt about Baker
the latest is from Jason Lloyd of the athletic
he says that Cleveland viewed Baker
as childish and immature
Baker also reportedly
annoyed his teammates with his behavior
and divided the locker room
he was often difficult to coach
so these are all the reports
that are coming out now about Baker Mayfield
now now we know
Baker leaked
Baker's team leaked some stuff
And so the Brown said, all right, you want to leak stuff,
we'll leak stuff. So it's a little bit of brand protection here.
It is.
You know, at surface, I would agree with all this.
Nothing of this is shocking.
We've been saying this.
We have clips of Baker sounding ridiculous,
arguing with reporters.
I mean, he told Mary Kay Cabot to stop lying,
to put food on her table.
We have plenty of examples of Baker being wildly immature.
We know things fell apart.
with O'Dell Beckham Jr. was very obvious to anyone who was paying attention what it was.
And Cleveland fans, for you that blame the media, not Baker, that's why you're the Browns.
Great quarterbacks don't do that.
Well, yeah, that leads me to the other side of this.
I, like you, I think, believe that multiple things can be true.
Yeah.
Nuance is very important in life.
It's very hard to have nuanced conversations, particularly on the internet.
You know, people can't read past a certain character count.
I get it.
It's very difficult.
It takes time.
So two things can be true.
Baker Mayfield was absolutely immature in Cleveland's.
We'll see how he is in Carolina.
He absolutely had problems with Odo Beckham.
He clearly divided the locker room.
Things were toxic there.
The other part of this that can be true is that I don't want to hear a whisper,
not a fart in the winds from the Cleveland Browns about character.
Please miss me with that.
We have better things to do today, Cleveland football.
Browns. He might have been immature and toxic in the locker room. That's not illegal. I do not want to
hear a single word from the Cleveland Browns about behavior and character and toxicity. Oh, that's a
pretty good take I didn't think about. That's a good one. Zip it. Zip it. Yeah, that's a good point
there. Talk to someone else about it. Not interesting. Yeah, we don't like the struggle and we don't
like that nonsense. I mean, you want to talk about no self-awareness, not a single drop in the cup.
of self-awareness in the Browns.
Just take the L on whatever Baker leaked on that one, please.
Yeah, move on.
Move on.
So, spend some rumors with Kevin Durantz that a Warriors reunion could be one of the options
out there for when he's traded.
Steph Curry was recently asked about the possibility of reuniting with his former teammate.
He didn't exactly shut down the idea, but he did make it clear he likes the team he has.
He said the rumor mill and all that stuff is part of the nature of the NBA and the league.
you take it for what it is.
You know how quickly things can change.
But I like where we're at.
Here's the thing.
I never bought into the Warriors thing.
Obviously, as Steph said,
you've got to keep all things,
all options open.
You keep things on the board
because you never know how things are going to play out.
But this just doesn't really feel like it makes sense.
One, Brooklyn is going to ask for and deserves and will get
as much as they possibly can for Kevin Durant.
He's under contract for the next 14.
years. He doesn't have a player option. There's no team option. Wherever he's going, he's playing
for the next at least three years, unless he's, you know, traded again or whatever. But we're assuming
it's going to be for four years. That's a significant amount of time, especially in today's NBA.
Yeah. The trades that we've already seen this offseason have set a particular standard for a star player.
Yeah. And KD is a superstar. Yeah.
That said, why would the Warriors do this? Why would Boston do this? The teams that I believe would
actually be in the market or one, a team
Kevin actually wants to play for,
like he's willing to go to.
But two, teams that have a haul
that they can give up without completely destroying
their culture and roster. That's how
you have to look at how this trade is going to turn out.
The Warriors just won the championship. They don't
need Kevin Durant. And their fans,
I think, can't wait to watch Moses
Moody, Jonathan Cominga, and James
Wiseman. Fans like, I also think the team
like to Steph's point and the organization,
and for that matter, Kevin Durant,
have moved on from this.
Like their legacies have now separated.
There was a little bit of like a connecting fiber between the two.
And it feels like, okay, the Warriors have won another championship.
So they're on this timeline.
And KD is doing his own thing.
You know, the other thing, you know, KD reportedly last week went dark.
He just won't talk to anybody.
Let's be honest about it.
We know he's sensitive and we know he watches everything.
The Warriors winning was not good for Kevin Durant.
It didn't look great.
No.
He probably, I know.
he was communicating with two people I know in the media about, well, what if they don't win?
Well, they did. And it doesn't look great. And I do think he's taken a little bit of a beating.
He's taking a beating now from the league. Nobody wants to trade for him. He took a beating on the
Warriors and Kevin's a sensitive guy. So I do think it's been a rough couple of weeks for him.
My guess this morning, and I wouldn't have said this a week ago, my guess this morning
is he's going back to Brooklyn because nobody's going to make the move after that goofy Rudy
go of air trade. Yeah, I mean, sometimes those trades kind of crash the market. Brooklyn,
I have a hard time seeing him being back in Brooklyn. A lot has happened. I get it and they are
the ones who are really in control here. Would you, let me ask you this. As a Miami fan,
let me ask you this, because we had Joe Varden on. And I was thinking of him in Joe Varden,
Kevin Durant, Jimmy Butler, straight swap. Would you do it? No. So, Durant's the much better
score, but I feel I can build my culture around Jimmy's sort of intensity.
Yeah, I mean, Kevin Durant is a better overall player than Jimmy.
That's what we couldn't agree on that.
But the Miami's a lot about culture.
Yes.
And Jimmy's great for culture.
But I think when you're talking about making this trade, you wouldn't be giving up your
best player.
Brooklyn wants a hall.
Like they don't, of course, they would love a Jimmy Butler.
They would love a star.
Well, Miami can't make it work without Butler.
But it's not going to work without Butler.
So what is the point?
You have, when you look at these trades and you're,
talking about the way that the NBA is trending, you have to consider what you're giving up,
which is why the market is more limited.
Devin Booker for Kevin Durant.
No, I don't think you can do it.
See, I would do that one because I think Butler's more about the soul of Miami, whereas
Chris Paul and KD, I like Booker a lot, but I don't feel like he's the, I mean,
when he was there without Chris Paul.
But I don't think Chris is going to play for four more years.
I know.
And certainly not at the level that you're going to need him to.
These are all legitimate questions.
So, like, so would I rather have Booker and KD?
absolutely over Chris Ball and
Katie. Like that's...
But that's that you can't get your guy then.
Yeah, I mean, I just don't think that's how this trade is going to look
if and when it does happen. It's going to be a lot of role players and picks.
And that's what Brooklyn should be getting because they have to rebuild again.
Yeah.
So putting together a bunch of veteran players isn't really what Brooklyn needs.
Brooklyn needs youth now because they have to, they have to reset.
So that's why I think the market isn't as wide as we thought it was going to be.
and this might take some time to play out.
So John Morant had an incredible season last year,
and he boosted his average by more than eight points a game.
He is definitely a star.
He's emerging on Superstar in the league,
and his confidence is very high.
Yes, certainly is.
And an interview with Taylor Rooks,
he made a pretty bold statement
about how he thinks he would have done
when facing Michael Jordan.
I wish I played in his generation, though.
Yeah.
You wish he would have played in his generation?
Yeah.
Why?
I heard he was like,
Like just how he, you know, go about the game, you know, just that mindset he had.
I would like to, you know, play against him.
Yeah.
You know, yeah, this time you're not saying, I would have cooked a...
I would have cooked them, too.
You would have cooked, Michael Jordan?
Nobody got more confidence than 12.
No, that's what you're supposed to say.
I get it.
As you should.
I'm never going to go and say nobody going to beat me in one-on-one or anything.
Now, obviously, this is going to get people on social media reacting a certain way because it is Michael Jordan.
But listening to him talk and watching Jaws' style and his play and his energy, he has that old school player mentality.
He plays with that, like, that fire.
Well, in Michael's era, he could put a hand on Jha.
Yes.
But now you can't.
So Michael could never stay in front of Jha now.
And as great as Michael was, you can't.
in Michael's area you could just grab a guy so it depends on the era but Michael was also 6-6 and a bigger
athlete than Jha yes he was a bigger body and and Michael prided himself on defense Michael was a
incredibly physical player Michael may look wiery Michael was strong I'm gonna go with Michael in this
yes but I understand where Jaws coming from but this is Jaws really he is really emerging
and this is why I would love to see them go further in the postseason.
He has that real superstar potential.
Yeah, his game's fun and he's, yeah, there's a.
And also, I think he's in the perfect city too.
Like just what they're building there is very exciting.
And it's young.
Yeah, he's really a special play.
Just the hair, the game, the left hand, the style.
There's a Zion thing.
It looks different.
And he's very, he's very unapologetic.
Yeah.
which I love in a player that is emerging.
Yeah. Joy with the news.
Well, that's the news.
And thanks for stopping by.

To be clear, 84 is big to me, not just because of crack.
I'm down to talk about crack all day, but just so you're all right.
But just so y'all know.
I mean, at this point, this is the second episode where we've discussed correct.
So I'm starting to see that there's a through line.
We also have AIDS on the table right now.
Thank you finishing that sentence.
Yes.
I don't think there's a more important year for black people.
Really?
Yeah.
For me, it's one of the most important years for black people in American history.

Because people scoreboard watch.
Life becomes about wins and losses.
Steve Burns, Dustin Ross, because you find it important to be a good person while you hear on earth,

So this is a real story.
This is not make-believe.
Everybody's at the Summer League, right?
LeBron's there.
Lakers are there.
The Warriors are there.
Everybody in the NBA.
Who's who?
Everybody's at the Summer League.
Westbrook and LeBron.
Teammates were at the Summer League, too.
They sat on the opposite.
ends of the floor.
LeBron was hanging out with all sorts of Lakers.
Rob Polinka, teammates.
One notable exception, Westbrook, opposite corner of the Thomas and Mack.
Stayed on the far side away from LeBron.
Now, last year at the Summer League, oh, they were best friends.
We got video of it.
Oh, they were buddies.
They were laughing.
They were next to each other.
Couldn't get along more.
Then LeBron played with him.
So Westbrook's not stupid.
Westbrook knows if LeBron wants him to be a Laker, he remains a Laker.
And Westbrook's no longer going to be a Laker.
And he knows it.
LeBron joined a cast of Anthony Davis, Paul George, Bradley Beale, Kevin Durant.
Everybody says they love Westbrook until they play with Westbrook.
We've got a long list of people who have said they love Westbrook.
Paul George, the best.
Why did you leave?
LeBron, Anthony, Hardin, Durant.
every LeBron can make anything work it doesn't work with Westbrook and I was saying this morning
you know like we all like fireworks right like Fourth of July as I said before is my favorite holiday
I love fireworks and if you ever you know at some point in your life you've invited buddies over and
say you bring fireworks over bring some fireworks over a little bit of fireworks there's always one guy who's
an idiot and brings an M80 and you set off an M80 and you're like do do do too much too loud too much
damage too much.
Westbrook is the M-80 of fireworks shows.
There's no nuance to it.
It's just loud and noisy and overpowering.
And it's just you put him on a team.
It doesn't work.
It just blows everything up.
There's no nuance to his game.
It's head down 100 miles an hour.
I'm going to shoot.
I don't care.
My best friend's the ball.
I'm going to argue if anybody else brings it up.
There's no nuance.
to the M-80. And I love fireworks, but it's just the damage, the noise, the, it sets off car alarms,
dogs are crying, kids are bawling. Like, no, no, no, no, just bring out the fireworks that
shoot in the air and they're quiet and they're, you know, we all like that and everybody is,
it's not about noise and sound. And I think Westbrook knows. I think this is a real thing.
I think Westbrook realizes. LeBron, they don't want him there anymore. Because I hear this all the
time in the NBA. Oh, he's a great guy. We're best friends. All right, play together.
Everybody always said they love Carmelo in his prime. I heard that all the time. Everybody
loves Carmello. How come LeBron didn't go and play with him? He chose Duane Wade.
Guys don't have to constantly tell you how much they love Duane Wade. They show you by joining
teams with Duane Wade. That's how I know they like Duane Wade. People don't have to tell me they like
LeBron. They all want to play with LeBron in his prime.
Steph Curry. Kevin Durant's like, I'm going to play with him.
If you have to tell me what a great guy, a guy is and everybody wants to play with him,
he's not a great guy.
Right? It's like people who brag about how much money they make, they don't make that much money.
Trump's always bragging about how much money he makes.
His net worth is a third of Michael Bloomberg in New York.
Like, Bloomberg doesn't talk about it.
Trump obsesses about it.
It's like with Westbrook, there's no nuance to his game.
So he's actually one of the rare stars that is better on a terrible.
terrible team. If you put Westbrook around bad players and he can just have the ball
40 minutes up and down the floor, do at his own pace, but he doesn't play well with others.
It doesn't work. And so LeBron has said multiple times in the last year, multiple times. Oh,
I'd love to play with Steph Curry. He gets a little dose of Westbrook, he misses 30 games,
and now they're not close to each other at the Thomas and Mac. And again,
Last year at this time, totally different game.
Westbrook and LeBron laughing next to each other.
It's going to be great.
Remember when he went to play with James Harden?
And there was a story.
I don't know how they know each other.
But they were apparently like good friends.
Like Hardin and Westbrook were great friends.
By the All-Star game, it didn't work.
Like by the All-Star game.
So there you go.
People think, oh, you guys don't like Westbrook.
No, I don't like his game.
I don't know the person.
It's the game.
When you're playing with other stars, you've got to have a little self-awareness and a little nuance.
You've got to play well with others.
For the record, it's easier in football.
The quarterback throws, the receiver catches, the lineman blocks.
We all have a role.
Basketball's different.
And now in 2022, it's positionless basketball.
Everybody can dribble.
Everybody can shoot.
So I'm not saying it's easy.
I mean, it's harder.
It's much easier in hockey, baseball.
football. This is what you play. This is what you do. Basketball's harder. That's why it's so important
to have self-awareness and an understanding of what you are and what you're not. Hour three next.
