and when John Mara came in and Joe Shane the general manager and asked him about Saquan Barkley and you have those cameras and it's like dude if your owner comes in you've got to have answers if I meet once a year with Lachlan Murdoch at Fox I'm buttoned up I'm not just hey I'm having her cocktail

you go to dinner with a boss look them in the eye if you have a message make sure you listen like there are these moments that are just more important than other moments right and they always say for the quarterback it's that Wednesday press conference they have the bank behind you you have Philadelphia Eagles Century Bank you don't have that in the locker room you have a four million dollar sponsor behind you maybe the biggest sponsor a bank that the organization has that the owner has his favorite sponsor he takes that bank CEO to dinner a couple times that bank CEO gets access to the locker room occasionally that Wednesday presser you're representing not just you the bank, the team, the owner, the whole thing. And these dummies out there that argue,

just go your hat backwards, spitball, and start fires. It's not it. And this comes from general managers I've talked to. Baker Mayfield was good enough. They moved him out of Cleveland because he kept starting fires. It wasn't because he couldn't play. They didn't sign to Sean Watson to a terrible guaranteed contract because they wanted to. it was the Wednesday pressure and the fire starting.

And so when you're a coach, think about this. I want you to think about this. So you're a football coach and you just got an NFL head job. Best jobs in the world in sports. NFL head coach, 32 of them. And you have a day as you fly the owner's private jet to that city. You've got a day. You tell your wife, let's start looking for homes and schools,

and you sit there and you make some calls for staff building, but you, um, you got to prepare a speech. Now, it's only going to be about five minutes speech. Seven minutes speech, then you'll take questions. But it does matter. That is one of those moments in life, like meeting the CEO at your company twice a year. Have your crap buttoned up. Don't be a moron.

So when Sean McVeigh's press conference, he was 30 years old. I mean, it's hard to find 30-year-olds on staffs. It's hard to find a 30-year-olds. year old college coach. Not with the richest owner in the NFL Stan Cronky. Remember Sean McVeigh's opening press conference. Our character will be the foundation

and it'll be the glue that holds us together as an organization. We're going to be committed to our process and we're going to be committed to a standard of performance. And those things are going to be focused on daily improvement and daily excellence. And that's what's going to help guide us on our journey to try to achieve

a world championship and bring it to this great city of Los Angeles. No teleprompter. Totally precise and buttoned up. And that's what his teams are. Now, I did make fun of Dan Campbell's presser, but he had a plan, and his team has become exactly what Dan Campbell promised us it would be.

We're going to kick you in the teeth. All right, and when you punch his back, we're going to smile at you and when you knock us down we're going to get up and on the way up we're going to buy the kneecap off all right and we're going to stand up and then it's going to take two more shots to knock us down all right and on the way up we're going to take your other

kneecap and we're going to get up and then it's going to take three shots to get us down and when we do we're going to take another honk out of you before long where are they going to be the last one standing a little over the top but that is precisely what the lions are

one of the most relentless physical teams in the league. They'll draft a linebacker and a running back first round. They don't care. They don't care. They're doing it their way. Their way is winning. But I was critical of Nick Seriani because when he got the job, I called two sources. They said, uh, not ready.

A story emerges today from ESPN with multiple sources. He and Jalen Hertz. Jalen Hertz does not respect his exes and O's, what I was told, and he's losing respect. And they don't get along. and not well liked. And we've watched him yell at fans, but remember his opening press conference. Next thing that's very important to me is that we build a smart football team,

that we have a smart football team here. And I know we have the people in place to do that. The first part of that, the first part of being smart is knowing what to do. We're going to know, we're going to have systems in place that are easier to learn. All right. complicated to the defense or offense that they're going against or the special teams group

that are going against, but easy for us to learn. Because when we can put that, when we can learn our system and we can get good at our system, then our talent can take over. Okay, now, I'm exhausted. I don't know what the hell that is. That makes J.D. Vance sound like Shakespeare. I can't take it. What is going on? And that's what the team is when he lost his two coordinators. What the hell am I watching? What do they do well? It matters, knuckleheads. You're going to have moments in your life when you got to nail it, when you got to hit it, when you got to be great. There's not a lot of them, thank God. But those opening press conferences, Sean McVeigh, Damico Ryan's, you're like, damn, the guy, they got buttoned up. I mean, I'm in TV. I can talk

all day long. That's what I do. I don't have a teleprompter. But this is what I'm trained for. coaches aren't trained for that and I'm not saying everybody that's slick behind a mic makes a great coach but the story that emerges today is a little over his head a little overwhelmed Jalen Hertz doesn't like being alone with him I'm just saying same thing I say about Wednesday press conferences for quarterbacks especially young ones you got that seven million dollar a year bank sponsorship signed behind you It's the one press conference of the week that Fox and ESPN, we all run. Because half the time, the locker room stuff, you can't make it out.

The audio is terrible. But that Wednesday one, that's the one everybody uses. Look the part. Be the part. Speak the part. Look into the camera. Be smart. Don't be argumentative.

Diffuse, not ignite. I'm just saying. I know you think I'm a mean guy. But it's this story, this is what I heard when he got. hired. And then I watched the presser and I'm like, this guy doesn't know where he's going. Now you're finding out some of this stuff is like real. And Jalen Hertz is spotting it. Jalen Hertz who comes from, I mean, Jalen Hertz comes from Nick Sabin and Lincoln Riley, who can control a press conference. Nobody controls a press conference like Nick Savant.

Like he and McVayor at a different standard. Tomlin's great too, by the way. But Lincoln Riley can get a little snippy, but he can control press conference. Then you move to that. You can't blame Jalen Hurts for going, what's going on here? Rachel Nichols. She is in Paris for the Olympics. What a plum, Simon, is that? What a great, I mean, God Lord. We're out here banging around. I can bring you back a baguette. I can bring you back some wine. What are we talking here, what do you need me to do? That is great. I was saying earlier that I thought this was, the competition was great, but the intensity, the focus of our American players, it's been

impressive, like, right? Like, the games weren't supposed to be this ugly, were they? Yeah, I mean, look, again, they haven't played, well, we see a lot from what happens against Serbia. That's one of the big lights that they're playing in the biggest stage in the metal round where it counts, and maybe that'll be a tougher match. I would expect it to be, but yeah, absolutely. The way this team has drilled down, the way particularly LeBron

James has drilled down. We expected it from him just because he's been exceptional at everything he does. We've seen him play this past year. We knew that being 39 years old was not exactly a hindrance the way it would be for other players. You know, there's the country song that goes, I'm not as good as I once was, but I'm as good once as I ever was. And I think that that's true of LeBron these days for sure, is that when he wants to,

when he knows it's the moment to turn it on, he can do everything. He has always been able to do. He has the full package available to him. all the time anymore but enough of the time and this is one of those times if you put him under true serum would he say that he thinks this is his last chance to win a title on a major stage of anything i don't know maybe he believes he can do that with the lakers in the next couple years but he knows he has the chance to do it right now you are seeing that focus that is translated from the rep to the rest of the team from day one i just spent the afternoon today column with

grant hill and he said from the day they started practice in los vegas it has lebron who's and setting the tone for everyone saying, this is serious, where you have to dominate. You know, I think it's fitting, and it makes me happy that KD becomes the all-time leading score. Because he's made some choices in his career I didn't love in terms of where he's playing. Sometimes he's been great, sometimes not. It didn't fit as well.

But if his career ended after these Olympics and you said, you know the all-time leading score is on the Olympics, it's Kevin Durant. Players would go, yeah, Yeah, it's Kevin Durant. I think it means a lot for him. I don't know how he thinks of it, but how is it viewed by the players? I think it means a tremendous amount to Kevin, and I think you're dead on, as usual,

with his whole career has been super incredibly impressive. I mean, time condenses things. And when we look back 20 years from now at the numbers Kevin Durant will have put up, at the titles he won, at the gold medals he won, I think that his whole resume is going to create a different feeling than some people have about him right now in the middle of it, in the talk show era in this moment. But the gold medals are an important part of it. Being a leading all-time U.S. score is a part of it. And I think to have a guy who maybe hasn't everything worked out to the full extent his talent

might have allowed and everything worked out quite as he had hoped in different cities, to be able to do this, to have this go right. It's so important for him. And just really a statement to how his game translates. He is better than everyone else on the court when he is on the court in an international play. It is true on this amazing, elite, incredible team, and it is true globally, and it is a sight to see. You know, this is, and I know this is hard, this is kind of speculation, but generally in the Olympics, you'll have relationships that are formed that, you know, guys just pass each other in the night. I mean, you don't even have time after games, Rachel, as you've covered the NBA forever, you're on a plane. You don't have time for dinner together. Like, it's all off-season

stuff. But I have this feeling with this Olympic team, have there been a couple of relationships where you're like, I mean, you're over there like, that's interesting. They're like friends. Yeah. No, I mean, I think it's going to be very interesting. These guys are playing with each other so they get to see how they mesh and fit for a possible alliance down the road as free agents may be together in the NBA. They're spending time together.

They see who they want to hang out with. I keep an eye on Devin Booker and who he's talking to because he's working out with Jason Tatum a lot. He's hanging out with Bammeda bio a lot. He's such a connector. He's a laidback, easygoing personality. Guys like him. He's just a cool guy to hang around with.

He loves cars. I mean, he's just got a lot of, like, fun interests to talk about with other players. He plays video games. And I would just keep an eye on him and who you see him talking to on the bench and things like that. Because who knows, that could be a prelude to down the road in the NBA. Anthony Edwards. His game is great. It's ascending.

Not always perfectly refined, but that's okay. He came into this league as like a 20-year-old kid. kind of take me to with all these aging stars you get to be at practice you get to see all this stuff how's anthony edwards how's aunt fit into all this stuff i mean he lights up every room he's in right i mean it's incredible what we see uh you know i see when i'm talking in the locker room that you guys see on tv you know that's real in the room and in a constellation of stars like they have on team usa to be the one lighting up the room is pretty exceptional his confidence remains so high even in this group you know we saw it during the

playoffs we saw all the talk he was talking with minnesota and you thought maybe when he got around this group of guys some of that would be toned down we saw right away in training camp it wasn't when he declared himself the number one option and when i was talking to steve cur about this serbia game he said look we have appropriate fear of serbia every single guy on our team would probably tell you and he's talking about even lebron james or kevin derrant or step kerry would tell you that nikolai yokech is the best basketball player on earth right now and i said would anthony edwards say that and he said no no he would not so Anthony's confidence has not so build even a little bit and I think he's doing so well here in this environment because he's a sponge the thing about aunt is and you've

seen this so much Colin is that he has all the bravado but he's also willing to learn and acknowledge who his heroes are and who might be better than him and he's just got a great sense of how it all fits together and I think he's going to come out of this an even better player than we saw him go into it. Finally, I know you're in Paris, which is amazing. You always get the plum assignment. J.J. Redick has now filled out the staff. I thought it was a pretty good staff.

Your thoughts on it. Pretty good, right? Yeah, no, I agree. I thought it was good. Nate McMillan is on the stand. Yeah, no, I think, look, I think Scotty Brooks is underrated, so I'm thrilled to see him back sort of doing this kind of thing in this bright environment. Nate McMillan, you know, parted ways under circumstances that had with the hawks that had more to do with a person,

conflict than almost anything else. So there's a lot of factors here that ended these two guys where they are to be the lead assistance on Redick staff. And I think they're going to be a great fit in LA because they can talk to JJ about some of the really big picture things like how you manage minutes or how you manage certain situations that JJ hasn't been in. But they can also talk to him about the really simple little things like, hey, this is the best time to have a meeting pregame because JJ has never had to think about that

or plan that out before. There's so many little tiny things about being a head coach. If you've just never done them before, that they become bigger obstacles than they should have to be. So the fact that he's got these really experienced guys at his side, I think we're going to make a big difference. I love them bringing Lindsay Harding in. I think she's going to be a real bright light and fresh voice on this staff and can obviously help them with development, having come from the G League and having been the G League coach in the year or so I think that they are making smart, smart moves all the way up and down with his coaching staff. It's still going to have to come down to what happens when the games start.

and when LeBron James and Anthony Edwards look across the court at JJ, do they have confidence that he knows what he's doing, do they want to do what he wants to do, or is it like what you were just talking about in the story before I came on? Are they like, I don't know, I'm not sure I have confidence in all of his verbiage. I'm not sure I have confidence on all the plays that he's putting together. So I think that is what's going to make the difference. In the end, having the right people around you should help with that difference,

but it's not going to be the main thing. Great, Sanya. You look happy and joyful. I will say that four or five days ago, because my daughter speaks a little French, and she went to the Olympics, four or five days ago, I downloaded Duolingo app, and I started taking French lessons for 45 minutes every day. Don't ask me a question. It's very ugly right now, but maybe, because of your history of going overseas, we could have a conversation some point over a coffee, and I could, jeie sui, Colin. You know, and maybe I can, I don't know.

Well, work it out. Well, you have to, the next Olympics is in Italy. So maybe you should switch to Italian. I'm just saying. Just saying. Great seeing you. Nice job. As always.

This morning, we went out last night. Yeah. So I didn't have, you know. So which language do you think sounds cool on women?

No, on women. The British accent. No. Oh, what? You think that sounds attractive? I think it's so hot on women. Oh, my gosh. No, no, you're saying when women speaking.

Yeah, obviously. Yeah, I think. But also women speaking French is just so nice, like restaurants and stuff. My son speaks a little German, but it sounds so hard. Yeah, no, no, no, no. Yeah. It's like you have phlegm. But women that speak have a British accent, Australian accent, or speak French.

Oh, we got so many things going on today. I got to say this about Kevin Durant. Rachel Nichols and I were talking. She was talking about Kevin Durant. And he's now become the leading score for Team USA. And I, and I will say this is that some of his decision-making through the years, leaving the Warriors for Brooklyn, I thought was wonky and weird, but this cements his legacy. KD is at its very best, and this is not as easy as it sounds.

Kevin Durant is at his very best playing with other great players. He doesn't have to lead. He doesn't have to elevate that. Go get a basket. My friend Mark Few, who's an assistant on this team and has been for years. Years ago, I asked him about the experience. What's it like being with all the time? those great players. His response was

KD. Man. That's something. Jason Tatum can disappear around other great players. M. B. doesn't fit. Steph has to adjust. LeBron O's Leeds. KD. seamlessly. I mean, with the Warriors, there were questions. Is he going to get enough shots? Is it going to work? And not only

work, the Adam Silver, and David Stern, the late David Stern knew, dynasties are good for the league. Very appealing. Adam Silver knows that too. But it was so lobsided when he went to the Warriors who won before he got there that Adam Silver said it hurts competitive balance. Even with a team with the best shooting back court of all time, Stefan Clay, Splash Brothers. And that was my take. It's like, is he going to disrupt that? That chemistry is unbelievable.

He's an outsider. I mean, Draymond, Steph Clay. Like he's an outsider. He was on the rivals. Seameless. Dude averaged, year one, he averaged 29 points on 8. shot 44% from 3 at about 55% field goals. No, he worked.

It was unbelievable. It was impeccable. And so KD is sort of salt to a chef. It enhances the flavor of everything else on the plate. It everything. Salt works with dessert. Carmel. It works with everything.

And chefs at their disposal make every, salt works with everything. KD works the better the players, the better the fit. Carmel O'Anthony. like struggled yonison dame is clunky Luca couldn't play with jalen brunson you can put katie he won with westbrook he won with steff

the brooklyn situation was different though because in brooklyn he was asked to sort of be the centerpiece the leader of it that's not what he does that that's not necessarily what katy does he is much more diplomat than president much more secretary of state than president LeBron's the president. Everything's going to go through him.

Chris Paul's got that vibe. Everything's going to go through me. And you don't have to be a prolific score to do that. But with Kevin Durant, and I think it's cool because I like when you can say, when you cement your legacy. Right? Like Michael Jordan, clutch, relentless, unstoppable. LeBron, durable, last forever, great Swiss Army knife. Magic John.

could play any position, elevated everybody. And then, like, Kevin Durant, 30 years from now, you're going to go, who's the all-time Olympic leading score? And you'll say, Kevin Durant, not Jordan, not Steph, not Lebrot? No, no, no, Kevin Durant. All-time leading score, yeah. And that's what he is. His legacy is, it doesn't matter where, who the coach is, as long as you don't ask him

to lead and be the centerpiece of that, and that's not a criticism. Derek Jeter better leader than Arod. It's not a criticism. Not everybody's built for that. But get a shot, get a basket, play well with others, not get insecure. He made Westbrook. He made that work. He made everything work.

And that's his legacy. Everything works with KD. Just go let him hoop. J-Mack with the news. No, no, no, no. Turn on the news. is the herd line news. We think so much a lie. I said on my podcast that, like, yeah, Kevin DeRate, don't have to be a leader.

Just show up and get buckets. Perfect setting for him, right? Went to Golden State. Hey, Steph Curry and Draymond, this is your team. I'll just show up and score. Well, look at LeBron's personality. Husband, father, right? He's the alpha in Paris at the Olympics, no doubt.

That's right. He's the leader. That's LeBron. Katie, though, is the, hey, we need a bucket. Like now. Even LeBron. LeBron's not the leading score over there. LeBron's not going to be the leading score in the Olympics.

And by the way, LeBron, part of his gift is he's secure enough that he doesn't have to take the final shot. For years, LeBron was criticized because he wouldn't take the final shot. No, he was secure enough that he didn't always have to be the final bucket getter. That's like he doesn't have to project constantly, I'm the man. He was the man without having to tell you comes. These Olympics have really helped KD, I think. I think so. And I think LeBron, a lot of people who have been on the fence and LeBron

Jordan debate. I've been saying this should obviously push LeBron past Jordan for anybody still waffling. Look what he's doing at 39. He's been the best player at the Olympics, not just the U.S., the entire Olympics. Better than, better than, uh, Yokic. Yokic has been good, but LeBron has been, I mean, unbelievable. I can't wait for that matchup. Anyways, let's get to C.D. Lamb who continues to hold out for the Cowboys, uh, waiting for his new deal. Debt Prescott is practicing while waiting for his new deal, too, and revealed that he spoke to his teammate recently. Dak said he knows CD is ready to get back to Dallas,

but is still grinding and working while away from the team. Colin, DJ Moore recently got a deal for 110-mill, 82-mill guarantee. CD's going to want more than that. He's going to want more than that. Yeah. He's going to want more. Considerably more or? Well, DJ Moore is part of a really, really potentially very good offense for the Bears.

CD Lamb, twist an ankle, they don't have an elite anything. To me, C.D. Lambs got major leverage. Again, DJ Moore, Roma Dunzee, Keenan Allen.

Look at the quarterbacks he's played with. I mean, nobody's remotely good. I know you're not huge on Dak, but Dak has been better than any quarterback DJ Moore. Who? Well, Amari Cooper was with that.

No, I meant a wide receiver for, you know, as a wide receiver, DJ Moore hasn't played with any good quarterback. CD Lam's playing with Dak Prescott. He's good. Oh, I think he's excellent? Yeah, he's like a top 12 quarterback. So I don't, I know people aren't going to like this.

I don't think Lamb is that much better than DJ Moore. Like, not like 35 mil a year. DJ Moore's at like 27 and a half mil. Yeah, no, I think, I think CD Lamb's better, but not a ton better. Yeah. But he's better. Who's the best? Citi Lamb, IEUK or DJ Moore.

That's very close. I think I'd go IUC, C. Now, not just production. You got, IUC number one. Oh, I think IUC stronger. Oh, well, that's a major problem for, I think Iyuk is stronger. I would put Iyuk third.

I'm projecting what I think he'll be. I would have gone Lamb Moore, Iuke. Remember, Iyuk's numbers aren't going to be as good because the other guys don't play with Debo, Samuel, George Kittle, and Christian McCaffrey. And they're winning every game in Frank. Yeah, I can't be just numbers because sometimes Brandon Ayuk is the fourth option on a play. DJ Moore is the first option. CD Lamb's the first option.

So you can't just, you have to contextualize the numbers. You know what? Let's find out how good Iyuk is. Go be the number one option in New England. Oh, he would be. Let's see how that works out. Now, he wouldn't get the ball much. Oh, really?

Well, DJ Moore got the ball in Carolina and in Chicago. Like, I don't know. This lamb situation, at some point, it's got to get to troubling, right? I know he can just go in and smoothly transition, but just the vibes don't seem good in Dallas. Next up, oh, here we go. Another holdout. Hassan Reddick. Still waiting to get that deal from the Jets.

The fines are stacking up for him over $1 million in fines after missing. mandatory minicamp and 15 days of training camp. Redick wants a new deal after the trade from the Eagles and the Jets offered him an extension back when the trade was made. He rejected it.

Now the fines can easily be wiped out as we've seen. Hey, you agree to a deal. We'll wipe out the fines, you know, that we've seen that done in the past. With Reddick, Colin, I think it's safe to say the Jets have the best front seven in the NFL when you have Hassan Reddick signed.

Quinnon Williams, that pass rush. The kid McDonald out of Iowa State looking amazing. But CJ Mosley, a really elite linebacker. Chargers have Khalil Mack and Bosa. Yeah, they can't stop the run to save their life. I'm just telling you, this Jets defense. They're so good. You have Quinn and Williams right now, and that's it.

Stop. When you add Reddick to this unit. What if he comes in out of shape and puffy? Well, then maybe we're not siding them. just have to deal with it. I mean, I hope he comes in shape. Yeah. He's always been a very good big play player. Like in a big third down, like he, sometimes I feel like he waits for the moment, but he's really good. Can I say poor man's Von Miller? You just throw Von Miller and there. I like Hassan Redding. I feel like he's one of those guys that can, he kind of seizes the moment,

like he knows when it's a big play. Some got Max Crosby plays unblockable, T.J. Watt, every play. I feel like they're just relentless, uh, bosa with the Niners. I think sometimes with Hassan, I feel like he kind of seizes, he's a seize the moment player. Now, numbers may say I'm wrong on that, but that's what it feels like. Remember, he was playing alongside Fletcher Cox. Now he plays alongside Quina Williams. I'm just telling you, once he's in camp,

lock it up. Final story in the NBA, we have a signing. Lowrie Marketing. Are you ready for this? Got a five-year, $238 million extension with the Utah Jazz. He got $220 million in new money. We're talking about Lowry

Marking and Colin. Well, he is staggering. Well, he's been a great score his whole career. Well, listen, he's a very nice player. He should be the third best player on a championship team. Well, at that salary, there ain't nobody bringing it him to be the third. Well, remember, Utah, let me defend you, Thomas.

Oh, I have to hear this. It is not like the Green Bay Packers, a very strong free agent market. So you sign your stars. They're not going out there and getting guys. That's why they brought de-weighted on the ownership group. They wanted to be cooler. They wanted to have a chance. The Packers draft develop.

Their free agent sightings are under the radar. But the reason the Packers draft and develop so well is they know they have to. Right? Like they have to. Rams miss on somebody. People want to play for McVeigh. So the Jazz are saying basically what can we get on the market that's significantly better in the free agent market? Guys don't wake up.

I mean, I love Salt Lake. I love Utah, obviously. You're Mr. Utah. So my take is this is the. right move, he's your guy, sign your guy. So you're signing him to a massive deal, $238 million extension, and his teammates, John Collins, Collins Sexton, Jordan Clarkson, this is the 14th, 13th best team in the West? What do you pay him for?

Why don't you just trade him? Get a boatload of picks. But Danny Age got greedy. That's what it is. He gives you 23 a night. So what? You're losing 60 games. Well, that's because it's one of the youngest teams in the league.

I want to see the young guys. So trot them out. This would have been a perfect team to tank for Cooper Flats. Trade Lowry Marketing and get a bunch of picks, and then you're playing all your young guys. I think they're too good to tank. They're going to win some games. Wow.

Give me that starting five again. I don't think you want to hear it. I want to hear it again. So it's Collins, Sexton. He's okay. John Collins, Lowery Marketing, Jordan Clarkson. That's okay.

You like that group? I don't like it. I'm saying is this is a rebuild that started like three years ago. They're accumulating picks. This is the first guy. They're like, what are we going to get on the market that's better than 23 or 24 a night? He probably, maybe loves living in Utah. His family loves it.

He's committed to the organization. So best case scenario, he's like a Pascal Seaccombe, and they find their Halliburton in the draft. And boom, all of a sudden, you've got a foundation of a couple guys. By the way, I love Pascal Seaccombe. He's an excellent player. Excellent player. That's a good comp. They have different games.

Pascal Seaccombe is a... He's a score. Well, he was a two. on a championship team with Kauai. Oh, they had Lurie on that? Yeah, but he was the two. Yeah. And so, Markinen is probably a three in a title team.

But I mean, like a strong three. If you got a high level one, he could be a two. He might not win the chip, but. Yeah, I mean, he's, to me, he's a three, but it's, if I get, what is he average, 23 a night? He's like, 23, 24. Yeah, I mean, he gives, he's, every time I watch the jazz play, it's like you're getting.

Well, is it because he's good or somebody's got a score? Oh, God. Again, I get paid it as a he did. He's been scored his whole career. What do you mean? Is it good or somebody? I got news for you. There's guys on the Lakers.

They need more points from them. They can't score. So Kevin Love, remember in Minnesota, stacking numbers, 26 and 15. Kevin Love's a Hall of Famer. And they couldn't do anything. So then he goes to the Cavs. He was their number three. Yeah.

Right. And Irene LeBron and won a title. That is probably. Well, I think Kevin Love is better than marketing. Yes. And at the height of his power. And he's a first ballot Hall of Fame. I think Kevin loves in the Chris Ballard.

Chris Bosch, really, really all-time, really good player. Marketing could be like a notch below. But I mean, 24 a night, dude. And by the way, the NBA is getting bigger. He's got size. He's a big dude. Yeah, I like his skill set. Oh, is that done?

who is basically in the history of the Dodgers at Sandy Kofax Fernando Oral Hirschizer Clayton Kershaw for the best pictures of all time Kershaw is still going out there and giving you innings against the Phillies last night. And the second thing, there was an earthquake in Los Angeles. It was more of a roller side to side.

It was, and I have for some, whatever reasons, I have slept, I've napped or slept through every earthquake I've ever been in. There was one in college. I didn't feel it. There's about two a year in L.A. where it moves a little bit. I never feel them. There was one on the air live here that I definitely felt.

That was, that was a big roller. Last night's was about five or six seconds, 5.2 based in Bakersfield. California, which is Kern County. That's out there. Some. But it was a real thing. You could feel it. And people were saying all over at Los Angeles, well, that was a real one.

So I hope everything is okay and property is okay. I see this. The Patriots, Brandon Ayyuk didn't want to be part of the Patriots. The Patriots said, we don't want any part of you. It is interesting, though, is that the San Francisco 49ers are sort of putting their foot down with Brandon Ayuk. They want him, but there's a price. And the young media tends to always say, get the bag and they'll lecture you on player empowerment. Never forget the weakest players union in American sports is the NFL.

And it's by far and away the best league and the most beloved because teams don't get trapped. If you're disruptive, even if you're talented, boom, you're gone. And that's the way it should be. I mean, in the NBA, they had to create an amnesty clause for about seven years because people were like New York. York was trying to get out of awful contracts. Teams in the NBA cave. There's really no nuance to it. If you're a really good player, you get a max. And you get trapped. I mean, Laura Market is a good player, but that contract, a lot of people today are rolling their eyes at it. It's newsworthy. Again, I think he fits for the jazz, but you're not doing that deal in the NFL where there's nuance. Points,

production, chemistry. Are you valuable beyond just being talented? Are you a team guy? Are you disruptive? All that stuff matters. And so in baseball, I mean, in the NBA, every team has a bad contract. Some have two. In baseball, every team's got several bad contracts, at least the teams that spend money. In the NFL, it's hard to find a bad contract. And if it's bad, you can get out from under it with one good draft. The thing about the NFL, Brandon Ayuk is just one of 53.

Outside of quarterback, he's not worth a point of game. He's one of 53. But the second thing that really helps NBA owners and GMs and front office types is the draft. You can move off guys. There's somebody in the draft that's often just as good. And not only in the first round, I mean, in the NBA draft, you're out of players by like, historically by the 16th pick. Puka Nekua was a fifth round pick. He looks like one of the best receivers in the NFL.

George Kittle, fifth round pick. Brock Purdy, last pick. Kurt Warner, undrafted. Antonio Gates, Hall of VIII. Bamer undrafted, Tony Romo undrafted. There's all sorts of talent, and that makes every employee in the NFL a little more replaceable. So it's the power.

When everybody tries to compare the NFL and the NBA, the NFL rolls their eyes at the NBA. They don't want to be anything like the NBA, where you get trapped, you're overpaying players, the players run the league. Listen, I like working at Fox. They don't want employees control the company, and they shouldn't. I have a small company. I want to control it. I want my management team to control it.

So this is a situation where San Francisco is like, we really, really like you. But we're not going to cave. There's a number. Hit it. I think he's going to sign. I think all this talk is being leaked by the 49ers, and he's finding out that,

Jay Mack, you may disagree with this. There's not a huge market. The Patriots, that one's over in Cleveland. And I don't think Amari Cooper is the Fed. He'd be productive. to some level in San Francisco, but I think I use a better fit. He's a better blocker. And I just

don't think, you know, everybody, never forget the NBA ratings, they may get their money. All these sports, hockey gets their money. Everybody gets money. NBA ratings are tanking. So there is clearly a disconnect between the public and the NBA as women's basketball ratings go up, Olympics go up, NFL goes up, college football goes

up, F1 goes up, NBA down. And I think a lot of it is there's this sense that teams get trapped and the stars run the league. and I've said this before. I was told this by an NBA coach. An NBA head coach is the worst great job in America. You have no control.

Players basically have to dictate when you can practice. It's a lot. And I think in the NFL, you treat your players well. I mean, McVeigh's legendary. Mike Tomlin, they treat your players well, but there are lines in the sand you can't cross. Here's Kyle Shanahan this week on the Brandon Iuke trade talk. It's been at this point for a little bit, so it's nothing really new to me.

I mean, you're always disappointed when you can't keep a hold of all your players or it's not going exactly right. I mean, I don't like losing anybody. So that's why I'm hoping it does work out here. But right now we don't have that solved yet, so I hope it does. Now, let me ask you, J-Mac. The fact that this's gotten out, and there's all these details, what does it tell you? So my theory is that the Niners just are banging their head against the wall. dude, you're not as good as Justin Jefferson, Jamar Chase.

Sorry, we're not going there. But you know what? If you think you're worth it, we will try to negotiate to do with the team. You guys go talk to those teams and see if they'll give you the money. And Iyuk is slowly finding out, ain't nobody giving him that money. He's not getting $34 million a year. I don't think that's happening anywhere. And I just wonder if reality sets in with him.

Because as we've seen, like player for player trades in the NFL very rare. It just doesn't happen a lot. You can do it, but it doesn't happen. So my guess is Iyuk tucked his tail between his legs, says, okay, let's go, let's go win a Super Bowl, then I'll get the hell out of here after that. And he stays with the Niners. That's my guess. Here's Nick Bosa of the Niners on IUC and how players feel about it.

It's brutal, especially when you're here and you have that extra pressure on you. I've talked to him a few times just as a friend. But when it comes to what's actually going on behind clips, those doors, I have no knowledge or input, so it'll get worked out. What kind of loss would that be if he's not off the mistake? I think it would be huge. I trust John and Kyle, but he's a very tough player to replace. Yeah, and I think all that stuff's true. I think he's good. He's tough to replace. I don't think he's a bad guy. He's young. He's temperamental a little bit. So what. But I, but I, but I think there are lines that you have to be in the NBA, everybody.

NFL, they don't. How's that Raiders deal working out for Devante Adams? Be careful what you wish for. Yeah. I mean, it's been a failure. Well, he hasn't. The team. Exactly.
