We get to ask other people questions because we're sick and tired of being asked questions. Well, sick and tired is a strong way to put it. But, you know, tired and sick. Listen to Hey Jonas on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you.
Starting point is 00:00:30 you get your podcast. Just listen. We don't care where you hear it. Another podcast from some SNL late night comedy guy, not quite. Unhumor me with Robert Smygel and friends. Me and hilarious guests from Bob Odenkirk to David Letterman help make you funnier. This week, my guest, SNL's Mikey Day and head writer Streeter Seidel, help an a cappella band with their between songs banter. Where does your group perform? We do some retirement homes. Those people are starving for banter. Listen to humor me with Robert Smigel and friends on the ice. Heart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts.
Starting point is 00:01:04 Hey, it's Edwin Castro, also known as Castro 1021. And I'm Kunky, his best friend and business manager. And we've got a new show called The 1021 Podcast. I'm taking you behind the scenes on how I became one of Twitch's most popular streamers. We also love sports. Starting point is 00:01:37 I'm Joey Dardano. And on my new podcast, Hope from a Hypocrite, I'll be changing lives, helping people in need with thoughtful solutions. Sike, I'm a comedian. I'm not qualified to give good advice. Join me and my comedian friends as we riff, rant, recommend some of the most legally dubious advice known to me. This is Help from a Hypocrite, the worst advice from the day. dumbest people you know. Listen to help from Hippocrite Wednesdays on the Iheart radio app, Apple podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. The story I've told myself can then shape my behavior
Starting point is 00:02:13 and that can lead me to sabotage the possibility of connection. Starting point is 00:03:04 Friday. Hey, let's go, buddy. Friday. Friday. Today here, podcast live from the Benavides Radio Row, Benavides Morel this weekend at the MGM in Vegas. Half our crew back is at the Tyraq.com. Studio.
Starting point is 00:03:19 Vegas. Tyraq.com will help you get there in unmatched selection, fast-free shipping, free road hazard protection, over 10,000 recommended installers. Tyraq.com, the way tire buying should be. And you know what, Kavino, after the show, make sure you check out the podcast. Not only do we have our over-promised bono bonus podcast this week and next week.
Starting point is 00:03:37 Additional bonus podcast, especially next week when we're in New Orleans for the Super Bowl. There's going to be a lot of NFL interviews that don't make the regular show. So can't wait for all that. Already lining up some great NFL stars for next week. Yeah, so we'll get more insight, maybe from a Jim Lampley or, I don't know, a Steve Kavino perhaps. We'll break down the fight on the bonus pod. Just search Kavino and retro-review stream your podcast. More Lampley, let's come.
Starting point is 00:04:02 Right now again live from the MGM. And a quick thanks to New York, New York for hosting us too. We're staying at the New York, New York, New York. So if you see us, drinks on you. But it's always great to be out here in Vegas, having a great time, excited for the fight tomorrow. You proud of me? For what? Not gambling yet.
Starting point is 00:04:18 Yeah. You really haven't? Nope. Not a dime. And Rich's wife actually gave him the green light to go ahead and gamble little Benny's college fund. You know when you turn to your significant other, hoping they say, one thing. Yeah. I turned to my wife and I said, you know, we got a really action-pack, great time coming up for Fox Sports. Me, Kavino, Danny G., we're going to be in Vegas, New Orleans,
Starting point is 00:04:44 eating, drinking, money. I said to my wife, I go, you know what, I think when we're in Vegas, I'm going to lay low, maybe I won't gamble and just, I'll just chill. She's like, yeah, but you work so hard, you deserve it. Have fun. I'm like, why would you say that? Oh, so you weren't kidding. I was like, I was waiting for my wife to be like, probably a good idea. And she's like, no, Have fun. So basically, if he wasn't on the casino floor gambling, he was probably in his room doing something weird. So it's not like he was upstairs being an angel, right?
Starting point is 00:05:11 I don't know if that's weird. Yeah, either way, he's doing something devious. Trust me. The Velvet Wolf, Rich Davis. By the way. I'm Covino. Spotty's here. Danny G.
Starting point is 00:05:18 Thank you. You just transitioned my... You blame yourself because you say things. And then when I go on a tangent, don't blame me. What did I say? He said, hotel rooms, deviant stuff. I just read an article about what not to do if you're traveling. in a hotel and you're staying in a hotel. What not to do? Yeah. Don't lay on the bedspread.
Starting point is 00:05:38 They don't wash them in most places. Maybe here at the MGM in New York, New York they do, but most places they don't wash the bedspreads. They're saying, you know those, well, that's true because they just change out the sheets. You know, the glasses in the bathroom that you probably put your toothbrush in or something. They're saying, don't count on them washing them. Like, don't think like, oh, clean glass. Like, that might be there. And I always see on social media, you're supposed to tape over the outlets because that's where the hidden cameras are. Is that true? The other one I saw was, do not just grab the remote control, wipe down the remote.
Starting point is 00:06:10 If you have any type of wipe, they said the remote control might be the dirtiest thing in a hotel room. You know, I saw a comedian. There's most people stick them. You know that dude, Eric Di Alessandro. He's like an East Coast Italian kid. Really funny guy. He goes, what is it with remote controls? We don't need them smaller.
Starting point is 00:06:27 He goes, it's not like we're packing them up and taking them on the road with us. Why do they keep making them smaller? if anything, make them bigger because we always lose them. That's a great point. We don't need remote controls to be smaller and smaller and smaller. Are you packing them up for the plane ride? Absolutely not. The Roku remote now is, honestly, like three inches.
Starting point is 00:06:43 Yeah, he's like, it's not a cell phone. We don't need a smaller. He goes, if anything, make it bigger because you always lose it. But anyway, thank you guys for being here on the show. We're in Vegas. Crazy thoughts. Crazy things happen. Crazy people stop by.
Starting point is 00:06:56 And I do want to say this. A big thanks to Brian Custer for stopping by. He's the guy that calls the fights. He's the guy you've seen hosting SportsCenter. You see him at every fight. If you don't know, follow him on social media. Guy knows what he's talking about, and he's a good dude. And we worked with him over 10 years ago.
Starting point is 00:07:12 And to see him do his thing on a big level and see his come up, it's been cool for us, and it's cool to catch up with him. So big shout out. And thanks again to Brian Custer. I was going to ask him, we didn't have time. Maybe we'll ask Jim Lampley on our bonus show. If Benavitas wins, and it looks like he is, but who knows? knows. Anything could happen is boxing.
Starting point is 00:07:34 I mean, this is a closer odds than most fights we've covered. And usually you're the guy that's like, bro, anyone's got a puncher's chance. He's only a minus 200-ish underdog. Favorite, I mean. So it's not like Benavides is just going to stroll through this fight. Well, the winner of this fight fights the winner of Beville, Better Biav later this life. By the way, Moral's undefeated as well. Exactly.
Starting point is 00:07:53 So who does he think wins that fight? And I wanted to know, which is the better fight? Canelo Crawford or Canelo Benavides? because those are the two fights that people always talk about. And to me, when you see how big Benavides is, I think Canelo Crawford is the better fight. I mean, you constantly point out that while Canela seems unbeatable, anytime he's gone up, that's when he's lost.
Starting point is 00:08:18 Yeah, because you lose your power. He's 5'7, dude. You know, these guys are big. Benevides is 6'2, and he walks around at 200 pounds. Canelo's not that big. So anyway, thank you again to Brian Custer. We'll talk to Jim Lampley about it here. and if you have any thoughts, 87799 on Fox.
Starting point is 00:08:35 We got to talk about records being broken because today is a very special day. It's Friday. Friday before a fight weekend. Light 78 candles. 78 candles for who? One of the greats of all time. In fact, when we talk about the goats, it's a name that we often don't bring up,
Starting point is 00:08:54 but we probably should. You know why we don't bring them up? I'll tell you why. Because he never want to sigh young. That's like the random fun fact. But that shouldn't be the, but you're right. You know, early on as it met, yes, but as an angel, as an Astro, as a Ranger, never won a World Series. Well, he won on that 69 team, right?
Starting point is 00:09:12 He was a young kid. Yeah, but that was like a non-factor, Nolan Ryan. Nolan Ryan turns 78 today. And he probably still throws gas. Same number of punches, too. He hit Robin Ventrower. A candle for every punch to Ventura's head. And if you've, you know, seen that documentary facing Nolan, which.
Starting point is 00:09:32 which was fantastic. I urge you to check that out. Honestly, it's a great watch. If you're a sports fan, you'll enjoy it. I think you don't even need to be because he talks about how his wife really kept him in baseball. He was going to quit after the Mets. When he was contemplating, what's my next move, he's a farmer type of guy. He's like a, his passion is ranching.
Starting point is 00:09:52 Ranching. Yeah. He's a jolly rancher. When they said, Nolan Ryan, you're in New York. And now we're sending you to Southern California to play for the Angels. He was like, yeah, I don't. I think I'm done. And his wife's like, Nolan, baseball, it's your passion.
Starting point is 00:10:05 It was the story behind every great man is a great woman. It really was. That was the story. But if you watch his documentary, you realize this guy was unbelievable. And not only was he just throwing gas, you know, the rumor is that at one point, if their radar guns were the way they are today, it would have been like 108. Like his strikeout record, if you go to Fox Sports, Instagram and Twitter, in honor of Nolan Ryan, they put up unbreakable. records. And they said Nolan Ryan's
Starting point is 00:10:34 5714, 5,714 strikeouts could arguably be the most unbreakable baseball record. For so many reasons, too. I mean, the longevity of the guy had, do a little quick search of rue. How many years do you play? Over 20 years. Can I give you a little
Starting point is 00:10:52 quick quiz? And then the dude was pitching nine innings, you know, at a time. This is the time and error of complete games. Give me number. Give me number two. I don't want to pay you on the spot, but number two. Number two, all-time strikeouts. Number two, lefty?
Starting point is 00:11:12 Yeah. You're asking me? Yeah. Number two all-time behind. The number? Okay. Randy Johnson. Correct the window. And he has 4,800, almost a thousand less strikeouts. So when you talk about... Sorry for the pause there. I wasn't sure what Rich was asking me. But, yeah, that's insane. Randy Johnson,
Starting point is 00:11:31 who we all saw the big unit so dominant in his era is still so far behind Nolan Ryan. I said, what's my question tough? I said, who's number two? Did you think I said, who does number two work for? I didn't know. Who does number two work for? I didn't know what the hell you were asking me.
Starting point is 00:11:48 I just was looking at Richel. What does he want from me right now? Who's number two? I thought you were asking me to ask you something. But anyway, yeah. Randy Johnson comes to mind immediately when you think of the rocket, Roger Clemens is number three with 4,600. Okay, I would have guessed that.
Starting point is 00:12:02 about some of the best ever have like a thousand less strikeouts. So you could argue that his strikeout record. Well, hold on. Put this in perspective. The milestone for strikeouts, it's probably different now. I wouldn't even know what it is now. It's probably 2000, but the milestone or landmark for the Hall of Fame is 3,000 strikeouts, 3,000 strikeouts or more. That's the goal. I don't even think C.C. Sabathia had that. No, he did. He didn't have 300 wins. Okay. It's 300 wins, 3,000 strikeouts. Nolan Ryan had 5,000 plus. That's insane.
Starting point is 00:12:38 All right. I'll just put this in perspective for you. Last year, Scoobel led the league with 228 strikeouts. So 228. Solid year, though. 228 times a 20-year career, he'd still be 1,200 shy of Nolan Ryan. That's insane.
Starting point is 00:12:58 That's how good he was. So when you think of unbreakable records, light him up let's chat he was such a sturdy dude big old texan high leg kick really used those legs so adorable and again you only think of guys like like the rocket honestly when you think of guys like him made up of the same sort of a texan also yeah you know what you think of um when i picture like who's like a specimen of a pitcher? And it's usually guys that get hurt, like a Noah Sindegard, like a ripped big guy.
Starting point is 00:13:34 Guys like Nolan Ryan and Roger Clemens, they almost appear to me to have like more like old guy dad strength. Yeah, they're sturdy. Like sturdy is a great word. I saw Roger Clemens recently still throwing gas. Like your dude, John Carlos Stanton is a specimen. But he's hurt all the time.
Starting point is 00:13:49 I know. It's so weird. Those are very special dudes, man. So Nolan Ryan should be in the goat conversation. It's his 78th birthday. Congrats to him, but his record really is unmatched. And you know what? I'm going to just get this out of the way, Rich, because it's, I think, like, the common answer
Starting point is 00:14:07 when people have these questions. So I'll kick it off. We open it up to you, Fox Sports Radio Nation, live from Vegas at the MGM Grand. 87799 on Fox at Covino and Rich. 877 99 out Fox call and say, what's up and let us know what you think will never be broken.
Starting point is 00:14:23 But anytime this comes up, Well, there's two. There's two. Yeah. The one I'm going with is the 56 game. Oh, that, see, I disagree. I know. You're going to say Cal. I think that, but I think that lightning could strike. I think a guy could get hot. I think the social media and the world of pressure in 2025 would get to a guy.
Starting point is 00:14:43 But I don't think that's, I don't think that's off the table. I don't think anybody catches. I mean, the closest is what? Pete Rose, 44 was the closest after that? Yeah. Joe DiMaggio, 56. 56. games and he could have got longer.
Starting point is 00:14:57 But that's just one of those things. It's just so hard to break. And you see how the pressure grows. You see when Judge was chasing 62, how the pressure just grew and grew and grew. Yeah. So even more so worse today than yesterday year to break these records. So I already said it. I thought Rich was going to say Cal Ripkin.
Starting point is 00:15:17 That's another one. That's never going to be broke because the culture is so different. Yeah. Now, if you see a guy play one season now, like, you know, I've been talking way too much about Pete Alonzo. Yeah. But you know, last year he played 162 games? That's amazing.
Starting point is 00:15:28 Imagine doing that for like 20 years. More reason, though, for him to be highly considered to be a Met. Yeah. Let's take it to the NBA for a minute. Sure. LeBron passed Kareem Abdul-Jabbar to become the NBA's all-time scoring leader last season. That record had stood for 40 years. Wow.
Starting point is 00:15:46 And if Adam Silver does go ahead with his idea of maybe shortening the NBA games, nobody's going to touch LeBron. and how many more seasons is the king going to play? And think about the circumstances in which LeBron started playing as a teenager. Right. And now going to be playing post-40. So you've got to have that longevity and that skill level.
Starting point is 00:16:07 Like, give me a break. Yeah, that's a good one, Danny, G. Because as a kid, you thought no one would catch Kareem. You know, this is an interesting one. Let me throw one at you, and I'm curious what you guys think. But it took a special, special dude at a really early age to do that. We saw Kobe go for 81. and it seemed miraculous.
Starting point is 00:16:25 The fact that Wilt has that 100-point game, there's no circumstance in which I think a guy could score. What about his bedroom records? Do you think anyone will ever break those or not? I don't know that girl's trying to sleep with a thousand dudes in one day, right? I would say his bedroom records are more impressive. I mean, that is true. But 100 points in a game, it would have to be like a triple quadruple
Starting point is 00:16:46 overtime where it's like 150 to 130 and a guy goes off. But still, 100 points, who would be even capable of that if Steph was just three, Three, three, three. If there's a four-point line maybe in the future, that's unattainable. But let me go to the NFL. I think that when we talk about records, there's a dude that doesn't get enough credit even a little to me. And I'm not being a homer as a 49ers fan. What Jerry Rice meant to the wide receiver position goes so under the radar because he played with Montana and Young.
Starting point is 00:17:18 And he's sort of a humble guy, never a showboat. He played for your Raiders, Danny J. Jerry Rice, career yards, 22,895. And it's how he did it, though. Like such an enigma, like a gazelle. Like, how did he do that? As they say, he had route running abilities and he had game speed. It was the first step.
Starting point is 00:17:39 His 40 was never impressive. His first step just put him ahead of everybody else. But he always looks so wide open and that's what's so weird about it. In every NFL film, you just see him running. He said by himself. He would glide. the way I always say that Carlos Beltron and his prime would glide
Starting point is 00:17:57 through the outfield towards a ball. He would glide and everyone have, think of a mental image of Jerry Rice, right? I don't see anyone else in the image like trying to block his passes. It's just him. You know how they always talk about in-game speed and how you can't really, you know, you just,
Starting point is 00:18:13 there's no way to really measure that. Some guys, they run the 40, they're not that fast, but in a game, it looks like Marcus Allen used to look that way. Long strides. looks like they're hardly trying and they're way ahead of the pack. Not the name drop, but we've had Jerry Rice on the show a few times over the years. And he talked about how when he would catch the ball on a slant and he saw a lane,
Starting point is 00:18:35 he had that thing like, I can't let anyone catch me. They may be faster than me, but you're right. There's an in-game speed that you really can't, you really can't account for. But speaking of Jerry Rice with that 22,895 yards, just to put a perspective, second place is Larry Fitzgerald who had a long ridiculously amazing career 17,000. Then after that, T.O. Randy Moss, they have like 15,000, which is, again, 7,000, 8,000 less than Jerry Rice. And when you talk about guys that are still active, like, is there any active player close? There's four guys that have 12,000, which is still 10,000 yards shy of Jerry Rice.
Starting point is 00:19:16 Travis Kelsey, Devante Adams, Mike Evans, and D'Andre Hopkins. You know what it goes back to what we said, and they have an extra, they have more games to play. That's the other crazy part, right? Now, you know, it goes back to durability once again, though. Players today, I don't know if high ankle sprain became a thing or was always a thing, but doesn't it seem like more injuries than ever before where, yeah, it's never going to happen. It's not going to be beaten at this pace. You got to throw Ricky Henderson the late great Ricky Henderson.
Starting point is 00:19:49 People don't steal bases the way he steals bases. They don't do that anymore. Even with the bigger bags, even with the pizza boxes. Ellie De La Cruz looks like a speedster that we haven't seen in a couple decades. Ricky had 14-06. Yeah, career, no way. But Ellie De La Cruz, I'm looking for a guy. Could there be a guy that even cracks 100?
Starting point is 00:20:10 Because Ricky would have seasons where he had over 100 stolen bases. I just don't know if a guy could even crack a Hyundai. It doesn't seem like it. And back to the NFL really quick. How about a record on the other side of things? A record you don't want to have 336 interceptions. I'm talking about. Brett Farve?
Starting point is 00:20:26 Yes, sir. You know, it's almost like strikeouts in baseball. You have to be around long enough to be that bad. And you have to be a gun slinger. A gun slinger. Are we going to ever see a quarterback throw that many interceptions again? You know, it's interesting, though, because the games change. and the answer to your question is probably not, right?
Starting point is 00:20:43 Because if you threw that many interceptions, most likely you'd be out of the league. But he was Brett Farv. Games changed. Techniques change. I heard Kenny Lofton recently speaking about how when he was playing, that's when the slide step came into effect. Oh.
Starting point is 00:21:05 So the leg kick went away. The leg kick sort of went away. The slide pitch became a thing. He goes, I would have been stealing 100 bases a season if that wasn't a thing. So, you know, as things change and techniques change, we may see some changes in these records. Look, we almost saw Eric Dickerson's record broken this year.
Starting point is 00:21:23 You know, the most stolen bases in the season ever? It's got to be Ricky 260 something, maybe? No, two something. 130. No, he had two something a season. No, they need 200 hits maybe, but Stole Bases? That would be insane. How would you have 200?
Starting point is 00:21:35 That would mean every time he got a hit, he stole a base. Maybe those were my dreams. Those were your video game. Oh, no, I'm sorry. Those Kavino's Little League stats. 130 by Ricky. Lou Brock had 118. Vince Coleman in 85 had 110.
Starting point is 00:21:50 Tim Raines. You know, and they all had the numbers. Ricky and Vince Coleman with the two guys that seemed to dominate that one's even close. One Hondo. And yeah, I'm trying to see. I'm scrolling down the list.
Starting point is 00:22:01 Shohei with 59 is, is the closest recently. So based on Nolan Ryan, the, I'm saying forgotten goat. We know how great he was. but he's never in that conversation. He's 78 today.
Starting point is 00:22:15 He holds the record for strikeouts. Over 5,000 strikeouts. What's the record again? 5,000. 714. 5,000. Based on that, what other records do you think, well, last, well, at least our lifetime? We're never going to see broken because the game changed or it's just unreachable.
Starting point is 00:22:32 I'm sorry, 5,0715, if you count the punch out of Robin Ventura as a punchout. Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah. That's a K-O. Yeah, that's a K-K-O. All right, so we'll get to your phone calls. 87799 on Fox. We got more Kavino and Rich, more guest stopping by. And, of course, we still got to talk about the fight and weekend hobnobbing.
Starting point is 00:22:53 Well, listen, CNR, live from Vegas and then New Orleans next week, a lot of fun. Fox Sports Radio has the best sports talk lineup in the nation. Catch all of our shows at Fox SportsRadio.com. And within the IHard Radio app, search FSR to listen live. Hey, it's us, the Jonas Brothers, and guess what? We have some big news. What's the news, name? Huge news.
Starting point is 00:23:15 We created our own podcast called, Hey Jonas. We invented a podcast? Well, we didn't invent it. We just contributed to it. We're the first people to do podcasts. Pretty, yeah, pretty wide range of podcasts throughout there. But this one's extra special. So how do we actually come up with a name, Hey Jonas, guys?
Starting point is 00:23:33 I honestly don't remember. I think it was on a call about what we should call it. And, well, we were thinking I'm originally calling it one of the early names of our band before Jonas Brothers. This is how you guys remember it going down? Yes. I have a very different memory of this. We were talking about a thing, a bit for the podcast, people could call in and say, hey, Jonas. And then I wrote down on my little notepad, Hey Jonas, and offered it up as a potential title for the podcast.
Starting point is 00:24:01 But thanks for remembering that, guys. Listen to Hey Jonas on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcast. Listen to humor me with Robert Smigel and
Starting point is 00:24:36 friends on the I Heart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Starting point is 00:25:45 Help! Somebody! Please! But there's so much more to me than me. I'm an actor. I'm a comedian. And recently, I've become quite the helper myself. And on my new podcast, Hope from a Hippocrite,
Starting point is 00:25:58 I'll be changing lives, helping people in need with my sage advice and thoughtful solutions. Sike! I'm a comedian. I'm not qualified to give good advice. Join me and my comedian friends as we riff, rant and recommend some of the most legally dubious advice known to man.
Starting point is 00:26:15 If I'm calling you, even if you're on your phone, let it ring twice. One ring is too scary. Oh, cream of chicken suit. Hey, cream. Cream a chicken suit. This is Help from a Hypocrite, the worst advice from the dumbest people you know.
Starting point is 00:26:31 Listen to Help from Hypocrite as part of the Mike Pulura podcast network available on the Eyeheart radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Hey, I'm Deanna Maria Riva, actress, mother, lover, and a Gen X woman walking through life one hot flash and hormonal crying jag at a time. You ladies know what I mean. I'll bet you a perimenopausal chin here, you do.
Starting point is 00:26:51 So let's talk about it. Join me on my new podcast. How hard can it be with Deanna Maria Riva, where I call on my Gen X squads from Ohio to Hollywood as we navigate midlife's most fantastic BS. All of a sudden, I'd had hanginess happening on my own. I was like, what the hell is that? I was married when I had her, so I didn't even consider how empty that nest was going to be. Mood swings, night sweats, fupas, sex drive.
Starting point is 00:27:18 Wait, what sex? Dating at 45. How high can it be getting naked at 50 with the new guy? That one's kind of hard, you know? Well, that's lighting. They say we can't polish a turd, but we're sure going to try. So let's get blunt with laughs, tears, or tears of laughter, and dive into it unfiltered and unbothered and ask, how hard can it be?
Starting point is 00:27:36 I cannot believe I'm about to speak this out loud in public. Listen to How Hard Can It Be with Diana Maria Riva as part of My Cultura Podcast Network, available on the IHart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Kavino and Rich live from Vegas, Friday, Fox Sports Radio. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:27:54 I got to stick around because we got weekend hobnobbing later this hour. The shows and games you might need to watch this weekend. I'm itching for a scratch. I don't know if it's. the dryer sheets my wife uses or I just feel like gambling. Got that itch. He's got some hives on my arm. Maybe a little bit of both.
Starting point is 00:28:12 That's Rich Davis. He's itchy. We got Danny G. on the phones on standby, waving just to say hi. 877.99 on Fox. Body's got the videos going at Covino and Rich at Fox Sports Radio. Let me give a few shoutouts, Rich, though, before we go to the phones. Iowa Samuel back in L.A. on the ones and twos. We got Bershey Boy, Burshy, Burshy, Bursh.
Starting point is 00:28:33 Oh, you thought, wait, did you say cheese steak sandwich sandwich? Cheese steak, Sammy on the buttons. And of course, DB, the best in the game, which are updates in a little bit. Thanks again to Brian Custer for stopping by. And remember, tune in to Jim Lampley on our bonus podcast. Search Covino and Rich. Wherever you stream your podcast, we'll be talking about the Benavides fight. Right now, live from Benavides Radio Row in Vegas to Tyraq.com studio. Rapid radios are the walkie-talkie for the big game. Rapid Radio. We're going to be heading in New Orleans right after this weekend. We're like a week away almost. They're pushed to talk offering national LTE coverage, no subscription ever, perfect for instant contact with your friends. We use them on the show. Go to rapid radios.com now for up to 60% off and free shipping.
Starting point is 00:29:16 So today, not only exciting because it's Friday fight weekend, you get sniffed as Super Bowl. I smell something. You have to scratch and sniff or just sniffing? I don't know. But it's also a special day. It's Nolan Ryan's birthday. Nolan Ryan's 78th birthday. Hold on.
Starting point is 00:29:34 I really put that in perspective. A guy we grew up to think was so unhittable, such a superstar. He's 78. And he played in the 90s. That's what I mean. He was beating up Robin Ventura in the 90s. He was old then. He was bleeding, you know, with the Texas Rangers in the 90s.
Starting point is 00:29:54 He's 78 years old. That's pretty old. Time's flying. Got to give him his props. But he's one of the greatest we've ever seen to do. it, transcendent generations, and he holds the strikeout record. Yeah, I saw Fox Sports on Instagram and Twitter said, unbreakable records.
Starting point is 00:30:14 You got to put Nolan Ryan's 5,700 plus strikeouts up there. So it got us thinking, what are the records that are near and dear to you? You're like, no one will break that or that one's, I said to Danny earlier. You're so amazed by it. You're like, no one's going to happen. I said, you know, no, it's prime for the breaking. Now that you're seeing a couple running backs starting to emerge again and run games becoming more of a component in the NFL.
Starting point is 00:30:35 Because remember for a minute, quarterbacks, we're throwing for three, four, five hundred yards a game, and now it's more of a balance attack. Guys like Sequan or Derek Henry, someone's going to break that single season rushing record. That's done so. That's gone in a couple years, I bet. How about Spotty's record in the early 2000s?
Starting point is 00:30:52 I don't think he cut his toenails for at least four years. It's true. Yeah. Oh, no, I got a record that Spot. I have a record that you're broken, and don't worry, I'm not going to say anything dirty. Spot joined the gym. and went one time and paid a membership for six years.
Starting point is 00:31:08 And we did the math of what you paid for one session at the gym. One session. It was the most expensive session that ever was. Six years' worth in one session. So let's go to you guys. What record comes to mind? Unbreakable. Maybe it's near and dear to you.
Starting point is 00:31:24 By the way, in that New York, that Fox Sports meme, Tom Brady's seven Super Bowls. I mean, you've got to put that in perspective. perspective too, only because Mahomes is going for number four and it seems like that in itself is preposterous and how Montana had four, you know, Terry
Starting point is 00:31:44 Bradshaw with the most dominant defense on the other side of the ball for years in the 70s. He got four. Mahomes would have to win on Sunday, next Sunday. And then that team would have to continue to dominate where he wins three additional Super Bowls in his 30s. I got one more.
Starting point is 00:32:02 before we go to the phones, too. 87799 on Fox. Again, because things change, right? The Beatles sold over 600 million albums. That's going to be broken. No, because who's buying albums? I don't think it works that way. I think Taylor Swift.
Starting point is 00:32:18 Second is Michael Jackson, and third is Elvis. Who's buying albums? I guess, yeah, I mean, but it's just a different world of streaming. There's got to be a way to calculate how many Spotify and Apple streams. Because if you Google now, the most albums sold of all time is still the Beatles. I know, but those music things, that's all semantics, though,
Starting point is 00:32:38 because people like Rihanna have more number one hits than Michael Jackson on an album. And Katie Perry, remember Katie Perry had like a certain number of number ones on an album? So that's all. How's that going to be broken? No, you're right. If no one's the last time you bought an album. You work in radio. When's the last time you bought an album?
Starting point is 00:32:54 And what do you think, when I went to coconuts? When I went to Sam Goody? Exactly. And kids today, right? Goody's got it, man. They don't want to spend money on anything. They want everything for free. It's like when I was a teenager, I sold the most realistic VCRs than any other Radio Shack employee in the country.
Starting point is 00:33:14 Nobody's ever going to break that. No one's going to break that. I'll tell you that much. Danny G. has that. Boom. Who you got, Danny G. Let's go to the phones. Gary in Illinois.
Starting point is 00:33:21 What's up, Gare? Hey, Gary. Hey, buddy. Hey, so maybe not so much a record, but something we'll probably never see again. And not so much talked about is NASCAR and Jimmy Johnson going five championships. in a row. Yeah, impressive for the race fans. That's got to be up there. Now, I thought you were going to say, because you got
Starting point is 00:33:38 me thinking, I think you were going to say because of contracts and so much money, you know, when you see these NFL players and NBA and baseball signing hundreds of millions of dollars of long-term deals, will we ever see someone allow a Bo Jackson or Dion Sanders to happen again?
Starting point is 00:33:56 Tyler Murray, Russell Wilson. There were guys that could have tried because they were highly touted baseball prospects, But I don't think you're going to see a multi-sport guy because it just, there's too risk. Too much at stake. Yeah, I don't think so. All right, let's talk to Eric in Los Angeles. Hey, what up, Eric?
Starting point is 00:34:11 Live from Vegas. What's going on? Hey, what's up, guys? Love the show. Thank you, man. Happy birthday to Nolan Ryan Express. Even though as an Angels fan, I wish he went into the hall wearing the Angels cap, but he went with his native Texas.
Starting point is 00:34:26 Pete Rose hit King. Rest in peace, the 42-56. No one's sniffing that. I'm surprised. took us this long we brought him up in regards to what do we bring them up in regards to?
Starting point is 00:34:39 We did mention it. No, you said best ball haircut. No, no. We said something where he came up in conversation, but I'm surprised it took this long to bring up Pete Rose. Again, the Pete Rose thing is simple math. How many hits over 4,000? 200 hits times 20 seasons
Starting point is 00:34:54 is 4,000. So to think, because now some of the best hitters, 180, 170 hits, like 200 hits isn't even the standard anymore. Guys aren't hitting 3.30. And the emphasis and value on hits just isn't the same as you used to be. OPS. Other things have taken
Starting point is 00:35:10 precedence. J.P. in Florida. What's up, Jay? Thanks, man. I love you. I love you guys, especially the boxing and the wrestling. Dusty Rhodes, American Dream. Yeah, when he wore the polka dots, that was like Vince McBan's way of saying
Starting point is 00:35:30 like FU. Do people know that? Because Dusty Rhodes, you know, Cody Rhodes' dad, the legend. He was a big guy for the other Federation. So when he finally went to the WWF, WV, Vince McGahn's like, you know, as a big Feehoo, I'm going to make you wear polka dots. And yet he still made it work. And he made it work.
Starting point is 00:35:47 Well, I remember. No doubt. You're right. And here's what I'm saying, Miami Dolphins. Okay, I got to be that Dolphins fan with the undefeated. You know what? Talking the 72 Dolphins. Let me tell you, brother, as much as I love your call and you said you love the show, I don't agree with that answer.
Starting point is 00:36:13 There's going to be a team in the NFL. Listen, the Chiefs and the Lions were 15 and 2. And the last game the Chiefs lost was simply because they rested every single player and the Broncos whooped their ass. Yeah, but that seems to be the way. So why, you know what I mean? Like, why the strategy of not risking it always puts that in jeopardy. Risk it.
Starting point is 00:36:36 What do you want a biscuit? Didn't you have a wrestling record that couldn't be broken? Speaking of Dusty Roaks? Oh, yeah, no doubt. I know it'll never be broken. and the honky tonkman's intercontinental championship reigned, you know? What was the record? Pegasoo beside him, the colonel in the back.
Starting point is 00:36:51 He held the belt longer than anybody? I don't even know if that's true anymore, but when we were kids, remember, they were, like, he was the weakest yet awesome wrestler, the Elvis impersonator. He was cool, cocky, and bad. But they made it seem like he was legit. I'm going to put you in the shake, rattle, and roll if you don't behave. All right, before we go to DB's update, let's talk to Bobby in Mississippi.
Starting point is 00:37:09 What's up, Bobby? Hey, Bobby. What's up, guys, I love the show. Thank you. I just want to say, happy birthday to knowing he truly was or is the goat. And there's two more records that he holds that will probably never be broken because pitchers don't pitch anymore, not complete games. Dude had seven no-hitters and 12-1 hitters as well.
Starting point is 00:37:28 Yeah, that's insane. That really is insane. No, it's really a bummer. And listen, I don't want to sound like an old head. And by the way, hold on. When you hear numbers like that, Rich, it's usually from some guy who played, you know, before black players were even allowed in baseball, He was doing this in our lifetime.
Starting point is 00:37:46 They're like, oh, Flippy Johnson, 1862. Oh, Flippy Johnson pitched seven no hit us and 12-1 hit us. Flippy Johnson. We're talking to Nolan Ryan. We all watched him. That's crazy, dude. He did that in our lifetime of watching sports. Oh, nine-figure Thompson?
Starting point is 00:38:01 Seriously. You know, Slappy Johnson did something like that. Guys have played when there was no fence. Like, if a ball went past the outfielders, it was a home run. By the way, the NFL record of the undefeated 14. and 0 Dolphins, 1972. This year, outside of that whoopin that the Chiefs took in the final week,
Starting point is 00:38:20 just because, again, they would beat the Broncos had they fielded their team. Their one loss was against Buffalo. So they lost to a really good team. But I think if you get a stack team, if a Lamar, Derek Henry team's healthy all year, or, dude, I know you're going to disagree with me, but if you get a team with a weak-guess schedule,
Starting point is 00:38:39 like the Niners played next year, I'm not saying they're going to go undefeated, but there's going to be a team that gets a weak schedule and runs a table. That will happen in our life. Let's go to Dan Byer for an update. I'm just surprised no one said Al Bundy four touchdowns in one game. That's very impressive. That's one of the greatest achievements ever.
Starting point is 00:38:56 And he's one of the 300, right? You're right? I think he did. What's up, D.B. Hey, guys, and talking about this earlier, and I don't know if you did mention it, to my apologies, but just the NFL all-time rushing record was such a big deal for us when we were growing up because it was Walter Payton getting it. then Barry Sanders challenging it and then ultimately Emmett Smith.
Starting point is 00:39:16 But you see how running backs are used nowadays. Derek Henry is the closest active running back to the top right now, 19th, with 11,423 yards. That's about 7,000 short of Emmett Smith and how many more seasons does Derek Henry have in him? That's, yeah. Even if you put up 15-Hundo for four years in a row, he's still shy of that. Yeah, yeah. I think that's going to be a tough one to touch.
Starting point is 00:39:40 Fox Sports Radio has the best sports talk lineup in the nation. Catch all of our shows at Fox SportsRadio.com. And within the IHard Radio app, search FSR to listen live. Hey, it's us, the Jonas Brothers, and guess what? We have some big news. What's the news, new? Huge news. We created our own podcast called, Hey, Jonas.
Starting point is 00:40:01 We invented a podcast? Well, we didn't invent it. We just contributed to it. We're the first people to do podcasts. Pretty, yeah, a wide range of podcasts throughout there. but this one's extra special. So how do we actually come up with a name Hey Jonas, guys?
Starting point is 00:40:15 I honestly don't remember. I think it was on a call about what we should call it. We were thinking I'm originally calling it one of the early names of our band before Jonas Brothers. This is how you guys remember it going down? Yes. I have a very different memory of this.
Starting point is 00:40:32 We were talking about a thing, a bit for the podcast, where people could call in and say, Hey Jonas. And then I wrote down on my little notepad Hey Jonas and offered it up as a potential title for the podcast. But thanks for remembering that, guys. Listen to Hey Jonas on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcast.

He was getting MVP chance last night. That ain't right. But guess what? No, I'm not even being facetious. Bronny James scored five points against the Wizards. I know, but those are pressure-filled points. I'm saying this, you could take it any way you want, right? There's people like, good one. But I'm coming from the perspective of who owned the headlines more than this guy

Starting point is 00:45:51 to hit a foul shot in that moment right to hit a free throw in that moment is just that tough now haters will say it was against the wizards it was kind of garbage time but to see him throw up that alley-up to see him have that plus one and to have a little bit of shine after having a bad game.

So you've got to believe. And Spot, I know you're pumped about this, that Tom Hanks movie here, where they go over the generations of him living in that house, It looks like something will make you cry your eyes out.
