Adam Wainwright, now part of Fox Sports Major League Baseball. He gets those Phillies fans all riled up. We'll get to that in a second. First of all, let's start. All-Star games, I talked to Jeter about this yesterday. Like, you know, they matter, but I think as a player, I'd go there and to be like, yeah, it kind of matters, but I kind of want to watch some of these guys. Like for you, you're over there with the Cardinals.

You want to watch some guys you don't get a see during the season. Do you have strong memories of the All-Star Games, your appearances? I do. And I think everyone remembers their first one more than anything. And my first one, I was able to pitch that day, but I got to sit down in the bullpen right next to Roy Halliday and Chris Carpenter and Tim Lensacom and just talk pitching for nine innings. And now, you know, now that the great Roy Halliday has passed, you know, you cherish those memories. he's even more and talking with one of the greatest pitchers of all time.

Yeah. About his routine and about his planning and process and work ethic and all the things that I'd always heard about. It was unbelievable to hear that out of his mouth. And just sit there and talk. And I think that's kind of my favorite memories about the All-Star game, is shagging in the outfield and standing next to Kirschaw and Bungartner and Grinky and talking pitching with some of the games greats.

Those are the things you remember the most. Yeah. It's such a great sports spectrum. I'll be watching tonight. It's the last All-Star game that really it just jumps off the television. It's a really fun night. I do want to talk about

a team that you got riled up this week. The Phillies have power. They're starting pitchers, actually. Adam, they go innings. So the bullpen's usually fresh. Like, those guys chop it up. They'll go innings. I think they play really well at home.

It's almost like a football crowd in Philadelphia. Um, is there any hole in that tea? Is there anything you think, oh, that could be a liability. That could be picked on. Well, I, you know, I sat in there with Rob Thompson and asked him that exact question. Uh, I said, and, and with our whole broadcast team, we asked him, like, is there anything missing from this team? Is there one thing that you think before the trade deadline, you want your GM or owner to go

out and say, you know, we got to get this? And you know what he said? he goes, I can't really think of anything. And I said, man, enjoy that moment. I know that you know as Amanda, that's not always the case. If I'm looking at it objectively at the Phillies, I think they have the best starting rotation in all baseball. I think they have the best lineup in all the baseball, probably too,

when all their guys are in there. They run the base as well. They defend well. They see pitches. They take, you know, they get in good counts. They're clutch hitters. I think if I was going to look objectively at one weakness maybe, and it hasn't really shown yet, but I would probably point to the ninth inning.

They got some great arms down there, incredible bullpen, just like they had last year, was one of the reasons they had such a good run to the postseason the last couple of years is their bullpen. But, you know, Alvarado and some of the other guys, they share that duty. I think Rob said maybe, you know, if I was going to pick one, maybe I would want like a ninth inning guy. But not really, you know, I just think he trusts his team so much with the people they have there and the personnel they have that they can probably make it work with however they, they, they, whoever they have down there. And those guys all have incredible arms. I mean, that's probably the one thing I look at, but I'll tell you, the Phillies stay healthy and they do what they can. They're going to be very, very hard to beat, if beatable at all.

I generally give baseball managers a pass when people, the criticism of Aaron Boone, he's kind of player friendly. and I'm like, football's different. Man, there's one game a week. You can ride a guy. You don't see him until Tuesday. And, you know, it's a do-or-die environment in football. You know, baseball, 30 spring, long season. That's a lot of flights.

You got to pick your spots on riding a guy. Do you think the criticism of Aaron Boone that he's kind of player-friendly is fair? Well, I don't think that should be a criticism. I mean, maybe in the New York market, it's very tough to manage and play up there probably. There's a little bit more pressure there, absolutely. I don't think anyone's denying that. But being a player's manager is a good thing. You know, the managers that can have open relationships, where they have honest conversations,

the open door policy in the office come in and, hey, man, you got to say something, say it. You know, and let's get it out. You'd much rather have that than have feelings built up and fester. I think to the extent of being a players manager, I would tell you that Aaron Boone almost certainly wants to win more than, you know, he wants to stay best friends with everyone. But I think there's a way to do both. And look, that's not an easy job.

There's lots of pressure on being a New York Yankees manager. I have not known Aaron in the clubhouse personally to be able to witness his managerial style. But I don't think it's an easy job. I think there's stars on that team that if they go out and play, they're going to have a very good chance to go deep into the playoffs. They go out and play well like they can. I think when you get Garrett Cole back, pitching like Garrett Cole can pitch. We've seen flashes of it. But, you know, when you're coming off an injury like he had, it takes you a few starts to fully believe that that arm's not going to break again. Once he starts throwing with confidence and being Garrett Cole, we can,

you might see that team take off and the heat of Aaron Brum will drop if that team wins. Tonight at 7 on Fox, the All-Star game, Adam Wainwright, the great Adam Wainwright, three All-Stars, a World Series champ. You know, I got into this discussion with Derek Jeter. Jeter was a very healthy player for most of his career. You pitched, I mean, you pitched, what, 2,700 innings or something, like it's just insane. Now, you're a big physical guy, so that can actually maybe help you over the course of pitching and heat and the innings. But I look at the Dodgers and I'm like, the whole team's hurt.

Like, it's just incredible, the injuries. And I would think that the training's better, the nutrition's better. The Dodgers do such a good job with their players and research and development and nutrition. But they're just fallen by the wayside. And is, Adam, did you have a certain diet, superstitions? Did you, I mean, is some of this just bad luck, I guess is what I'm asking? asking with health. Yeah, I mean, I think when you look at the game of baseball

with so many games you play, and it's really more than just the games you play. It's the whole spring training. It's the preparation of the offseason. I would say that the off season is probably as little of an off season that there's ever been in the game now. I mean, guys take a week or too often. They're getting right back to them.

I don't know if that's exactly right to do. I think you should take some time and kind of unwind. a little bit so long season you know your body needs rest but I will say that there's certainly some bad luck involved I mean you know with with the May with his you know tonsils injury or whatever like you can't how do you can do everything right and not be prepared for a guy hurting his tonsils at dinner you know whatever it was stophagus like there's nothing you can do about

that yeah and some of these other injuries guys getting hit on the hand or whatever it is there's nothing you could do about now pitching injuries are are sometimes different but you know what you're about to see is the Dodgers you have what six game lead or seven game leader yeah like that yeah they're about Kershaw back which I you know say whatever you want about Kershaw he's still a champion the guy is still even when he's dealing with lesser stuff still goes out and pitches seven innings no runs I mean he's unbelievable you're about to get some of those

other stars back um this is the time now you if you're Arizona you're Sam Fran now's the time you got to make a move you know you got to make a move I think yeah I'm a moat I'll be back soon glass now he's just on the 15 day with some with some back injury whatever like some back spasms or some he'll be back soon Bueller's coming back soon yep these guys are all Joe Kelly will be back soon be back soon the guy you know Muncie he'll be he'll be he'll be gonna be a while some of these other guys are could they're couple of these guys are gonna be a

while but a lot of these guys are about come back what I'm saying yeah and that team's about to be a whole lot more complete yeah and they're already I think look you still have Freddie Freeman you still have show no Tony you still have an incredible lineup you still have some great arms over there I want to see some of those arms that are in there right now pitch a little bit better but you know, I'm sure they do too, but they still have a seven-game league, Colin. You know, they are, the Dodgers are comfortable being down. They're comfortable when they're not at full strength.

They have guys that step up. They have a winning way about them. They expect to go out and win every day. I think the Dodgers are going to be just fine. Hey, Rob, finally, Rob, man, for the commission, baseball might test the automated strike zone challenge system next year in spring, and they could use it in 2026. Now, I generally think all officiating, because there's so many,

cameras now. You know, the first Super Bowl and you used a couple of cameras. Now they've got 72 cameras doing these games. Like you see every mistake by officials. The replay is amazing. The production level. You just see everything. And now everybody's got a phone. So if an umpire misses a strike

zone call, you know, John Boy Media has got it all laid out for the next month. And it's like, that's what they do. And it's fun. Do you think the umpiring is regressed? Or is it just part of the reality of more cameras, more iPhones, everything becomes an avalanche on social media. Like, what do you make of it?

No, I think actually probably the umpiring is probably better now that it ever has been because of the cameras because of the systems put in place that are keeping them holding them accountable. You know, and the John Boy media is out there. Everybody loves John Boyd Media. Those things out there that are making it visible. These guys have pressure on them every day. It was kind of before, before the box came into play. Yeah.

The strike zone was whatever the umpire deemed that day. I would have loved to have had a couple of couple more inches off each corner, the final few years of my career especially. But, no, I think they're under more scrutiny than they've ever been put under. I think they're really honing in on their strike zones. Most of those guys are pretty dang good. That is a very, very hard job. Yeah.

Just being honest, there's a couple of umpires that are horrible. Yeah. They're terrible. Yeah. And they need to get them out of the game. Yeah. But there's a lot of really, really great umpires. Yeah.

And you don't need to say that because you're not pitching anymore. You could have just gone out and dropped the hammer and you didn't. Adam Wainwright. Hey, it's good seeing you again, my man. Appreciate it. Thanks. Thank you for having me on. I always love seeing you.

Bob Gibson was so dominant they had to lower the mount back in the 60s. Bob was pretty good. See, he came out and said this that the umpire he thinks is better.

And that's where I think we have to contextualize it. I think by and large, officiating is really good. I think people just don't understand. The amount of camp, here's all you need to know. you go watch an NFL game and they'll be like a fumble under a pile most of my childhood

you couldn't see it you will have a camera now that can go inside piles how many cameras do you have to have so a lot of this is just the quality of the broadcast on you know Fox and CBS there's more cameras there's more money

I mean, you got, there are times when you'll see a guy run to the cone in the corner, and they got that thing covered with four cameras, down to the grain of grass. So I think in baseball, I'm prying, the ball's moving, guys have never thrown harder, you have catchers framing it. I think it's hard. Are there a couple of guys that needed to get, you know, whacked? Yeah. But I think by and large officiating is pretty.

Jay Mack with the news. No, no, no, no, no. Turn on the news. This is the herd line news. Go to a team we rarely talk about the Colts. Nick Siriani was on the hot seat last season after he lost Shane Steichen to the Colt. Siriani seeded control of his offense to new O.C. Kellynne Moore this offseason, something he believes is what's best for the team.

Colin, what type of impact will Kellynne Moore have on the Jalen Hertz and Philly the offense, which didn't look good after losing. I'm not sure. You know, again, you go to Dallas. We thought he did a good job, but he left, and Dallas's offense was fine. And then he went to the Chargers, but because of Brandon Staley, it's hard to judge. Everybody was bad. Like, who had a good year for the Chargers?

So it's like one of those things. I think it's a good hire. But I think he was probably, I think Kellen Moore got a reputation. because the Cowboys are such a big brand, that he was the next Sean McVeigh. And what I think he is is a very capable offensive coordinator. I think we elevated him to a level.

If he'd have been the Jags OC and not the Cowboys OC, would we have talked about him ad nauseum? Probably not. And Jerry Jones loved him. Yeah. So I think he just, and again, it's not that he's not capable. I think he got elevated to a different place.

And then I think he's a good, solid OC. Yeah, I mean, we'll see. How many bites of the apple does Kellynne Moore get? You know, it's like, is this third O.C. job in like four years? Well, this is what you said about Ben Johnson, and you were right. You've got to strike when the iron's hot. Like, Ben Johnson is saying basically, I'm going to stay in Detroit. Now, he may not, there's a lot of things that would tell you it's a good move.

They have a great O-line, great quarterback. Very good weapons. Yeah, I mean, they've got, they should be very good. And I don't think he's going to dip. I mean, this is not a team with an old quarterback. and suddenly, like, he's going to cascade down the hill. Like, Jared Goff, that O-Line, that run game. Should be a pretty good team.

But generally, in life, striking when the iron is hot, there's a reason somebody came up with that term. It's a real thing. And it feels like this is probably Kellyn Moore's last go-round as an O.C. after this, he's going to have to be, like, quarterbacks coach and have to resurrect his career. Or go be a head coach in college. I guess he could do that.

Go back to what Boise State. Those aren't bad. gigs. Those are big boy of gigs. It's not bad, but you got to work a lot harder than you do in the NFL in college, because you've got to recruit year-round, NIL nonsense. Yeah. So, uh, let's go to the NBA, Colin. We talked about this off-air earlier. So basically the last remaining guy out there in the NBA is Lori Markinen. I like it. Um, the jazz have him. Yep. And it seems like the Warriors are a potential suitor. This is where it gets interesting. According to Shams, the Warriors are saying, yeah, we'll do Moses Moody.

Multiple picks, pick swaps, whatever you want in terms of picks. And Utah said, no thank you. We want Moody, Cuminga, and Pods. I'm not giving you-and-Also the Picks. I'm not giving you pods. I give you Cominga, Moody, and Picks for Lori Marketing. I'm not giving you pods. You're giving up Cummina.

Yeah, I give them up. So you now have to pay Lowry Marketing. I think Cummega is a really talented kid. I'm not sure exactly what he is. I know what Steph is. Pods is. Draymond is. Markinen.

Markinen's 23, 24 at night. I think he's a really, really good player. it's strange he's bounced around the league he's not a bad guy but you're not giving up pod that's why you let Clay Thompson go and that kid's really and he really plays

Warrior basketball he moves without the ball exceptionally well Marking it is in the Zach Levine mold and then he puts up a lot of stats on bad teams you're not leading anywhere Larry Markan he's big okay what can he be can he be a two Steph's your leading

score at 27 Markan in his second at 23 And what are you? 42 wins? Probably 17, 18. Wiggins? Yeah, Wiggins is what he is. Draymond. I say Markan's your two.

Wiggins is your three. Pods is a great four. That's a playing team in the West. At best. Oh, come on. How are they better than a playing team? The West is loaded. You never knew what you were getting with Cominga.

You know what you're getting with marketing. Because he's like 23 years old. He's a young dude. I don't have. all day here. Come on. So that brings us to Steph Curry. If they don't make a move,

the Warriors are a fringe playoff team. If they do make a move, they're a playing team. And then you start to wonder, like, where do we do? What do we do with Steph Curry? Like, do you want to see Steph Curry on 36 win teens in Golden State and his career? I think they're going to move Wiggins at the trade deadline and get something. Who wants Andrew Wiggins?

He hasn't done anything. I'm not sure about this. Does he have an expiring contract? There's no market for him because something's going on with him off the court. I don't know what it is. I haven't inquired. I'm not sure if he has an expiring, does he have an expiring or is he have a year and a half left, two years left? I don't know. Regardless, like, he's not somebody that anybody wants.

And I just, you start to look forward with Golden State and it's like, okay, does Steph Curry say, guys, we're not contending? I don't want to be on like a non-playoff team when I'm still, Steph Curry is still a top 15 player in the league. Oh, God, he's top 10. So they're not going to want to trade him, but does he ask for a trade? This is a really good team. Steph, Pods, Draymond, Wiggins, Lori Markinen. That's an interesting team. I don't think it's a championship.

Are they better than Minnesota? No. Are they better than Denver? No. Are they better than Dallas? They're in that conversation. OKC. No.

So now at best you're like maybe fifth. Memphis is coming back. I know you're down on John Morant. We'll see. This was like a 50-win team two years ago. They're out of the championship window. The Warriors. But I think I'd make a move on Marant.

Markinen because he's on Curry's timeline. And this is where it gets history. Go back to the Larry Bird Magic. Isaiah Thomas. Ryan, what did Pods average last year? I think he's an interesting emerging. Remember, he stayed in college for a few years. Didn't he?

Over under one and a half All-Star games in his career. Pods. Come on. Is he KCP? So he averaged nine last year. He'll be up to 14. Ooh. I don't know, Colin.

All I'm saying, Isaiah Thomas with the Pistons, hurt. I'm out. We never saw Isaiah Thomas on a crap team. Bird, back injury, Celtics, I'm out. They were a playoff team. Magic, obviously, different. We haven't seen a lot of superstars outside of Shaq and the big guys just end their career on crap teams. And I am worried about Curry, and I don't know if he ends his career in a golden stage year.

He's going to end his career there. Okay, let's monitor that. Final story is in the NBA. Netflix is set to release a yet-to-be-named docu series, similar to the NFL hit shows quarterback and receiver. The NBA one will center around LeBron, Jason Tatum, Jimmy Butler, Demontas Sabonis. And finally, Anthony Edwards. According to Shams, Anthony Edwards is a major star and a breakaway act of the series. We've seen him in a little bit of USA.

He looks unstoppable. Colin, I know he joked around about Jordan and face of the league. He will be the face of the league with Wemby by the All-Star Break. He'll be the face of the league. Jason Tatum doesn't want it. Luca is too grumpy and beats her too much. Yokic doesn't want it. SGA, who you love.

It'll be Aunt, handsome kid, fun, playful, great, and Wemby by the All Star. He's chatty. He gets good interview as this. He's confident without being... You know how you said outside of my awesome attributes, you said, I was a good hang. That's one of the reasons you wanted me on the show. I never said that. You're on record saying that.

Anthony Edwards seems like a good hang. By the way... I want to hang with it. Do you have Netflix, by the way? Yeah, I got that movie. I just watched Get Gotti. Like John Gotti? Yeah, well, what other Gotti do you have?

They have all this Rico act, all these tapes. Rico. That stuff never gets old. That mob stuff is so good. So you recommend that? Oh, I loved it. I watched it flying back. Yeah, I watched it flying back from the East Coast.

I saw a lot of movies on the plane. Ferrari? Have you seen that by any chance? No. It's not bad. It's not a car guy. The Bob Marley movie? Do you see that?

about age and how much longer he wants to coach. I know I'm on the bottom side of this thing and not on the top side of it. So it's coming, but I don't know when it is. and this is a great place to coach, and I've got good players. And, you know, so I'll be 71 at the end of this contract. And that seems like really old. So we'll see, see where it all goes. Yeah, I mean, it's, you know, these offensive coaches, I think they tend to age pretty well.

There is something about creation, about you go to work and you're creating plays. And that's a, you know, defensive coaches, tend to be more about a little rigidity, don't make mistakes, no turnovers. Offensive coaches are more creators. I think it's a little more joyful experience. I did a list earlier, the 10 best coaches all in in the league. I had Andy won, McVeigh, 2. I think McVeigh is the best culture builder in the sport.

John Harbaugh is the most underrated NFL coach, maybe of my life. His run games number one, his special teams are great, and his defense has been great. I go Peyton Tomlin Shanahan, Matt LaFleur, Stefansky, Sean McDermott, Damico Ryans, although I don't put Jim Harbin there yet because he's taking time off. We'll wait and see.

Everybody thinks I'm a little late on Shanahan. And my takeaway is he has had, is it three quarters in Super Bowls? Let's see, there's the Kansas City one. There's the two or three. He's been outscored like 58 to 12 and fourth quarters. Like that's the quarter of note in the biggest games of the game.

the year. And I think there is times that he gets a bit tied to his play sheet. And I think that's a little bit of my criticism. But again, we're talking inches, not feet. Like Sean Payton's easy to beat up on now because they weren't very good last year. But the Saints were the worst professional sports

organization, not named the L.A. Clippers. And he literally turned them into a powerhouse. You know who hasn't been good in the Super Bowl lately? Fourth quarter, first quarter, second quarter? coaches who haven't been there in years like Tomlin, like Harbaugh, like Peyton. Like I'm not knocking them, but I got a backup call. And I'm surprised Nick didn't call you on this. What are your criteria for the 10 best coaches?

Is this a career achievement award? There's got to be something you're great at. Like Andy Reid, play calling and play creation. McVeigh, development, and culture builder. Harbaugh, tough guy, he does everything well. Payton, again, one of the great play call, maybe the best play caller in league history. Tomlin, motivation and defense. He's elite.

Shanahan, great play caller. Lafleur's interesting, because I think he's a little bit of everything. I think he's a good play caller, a good culture builder. I think he's a little bit of, I think he's a lot of, and I think Stefansky is a tremendous play caller. He gets knocked for being conservative. So who's the best play caller? Staphansky-McVe.

I think or Shanahan. I think Shanahan's the best play designer. I think Shanahan, I think Stapansky's on a short list. I like his play calling a lot. He's very good, no doubt. I think McDermott is absolutely a culture creator and a great defensive coach.

And D'Amico Ryan's, I think, is McVeigh on the other side of the ball. I think he's good at a lot. Right. So the Niners last three years, Let me see. Super Bowl, NFC championship game,

and I think there was an injury and then Super Bowl the year. What's his trophy room look like? Well, again, like, the sample size of the Super Bowl is tiny. You got to get there, don't you? It's like, that's like the Jordan LeBron question.

Well, Jordan won six. Okay. LeBron with eight straight finals. Like, how does that not more important than just winning the title? Yeah, I think all those guys are elite at something. I mean, If I said the best motivational coach, what team plays hardest? Pittsburgh comes out, hair on fire in the biggest games.

I don't love his offensive coordinator. You're not outside of Andy, outside of Andy Reed. There's no perfect coach. Okay. Andy Reed, he also knows what he's not. He doesn't get in Brett Beech's way, the GM, you know, Belichick and guys I like, Pete Carroll Belichick, they can be, you know, they're leading on personnel choices. Let's say we had a coach draft.

That's what my draft would look like. You would have Reed first. Absolutely. And then I would go and I would take Kyle Shanahan. So you would then go and take McVeigh, right? Yep. Who would you take four? That's tough.

I mean, listen, I love Champagne. He was a nice guy, whatever. I don't think I could take him at that spot. It might be Harbaugh? Robert. No, I can't. Robert Solis. That's a joke, that's a joke, people.

It might have to be horrible. By the way, I think we have a lot of good coaches. because I didn't put Dan Campbell in there or Mike McDaniel in there. Dan Campbell. Do you consider him a good coach? Well, I think he's an absolutely elite culture builder. I think he's second only to McVeyan building culture. But I don't like his situational coaching.

He gets way too emotional. Wow. Like he has something that I don't like. Lions could be in the Super Bowl this year. And I don't think anybody's going to put Dan Campbell top three or four reasons they're there. Right? Well, Ben Johnson, the offensive line. It's like being president.

If the economy's good during your four years of credit or four years of presidency, you get some credit for it. You do. Yeah, yeah. No doubt. Dan Campbell turned a losing franchise into a winner. He gets credit for it. He does get some.

But is he the number one or the number two reasons? I didn't put him top 10. I think Mike McDaniels up there, although I don't know if he knows defense. You talk about play calling and play design? He might be top three. He's good, man. Not a lot of defensive coaches on this list. I don't like them.

Huh? I got Tomlin. Harbaugh's a special teams guy I've got McDermott McDermott and Demico Yeah I got three of them
