I think their ability to have eight and nine different defensive linemen and just keep substituting them. The depth is insane. I'm not sure anybody in the league has. that. And I, when I watch them, I'm not so much sure they're, they're not only the best team. I'm not sure if they're not the best team by a margin. What impressed you? What do your sources tell you about not just the win, but how they did it? Yeah, and it's the margin of point differential. Now, they are plus 108 right now. The second best team is plus 62. Wow. And that's the Arizona Cardinal. So they have a 46 point differential as far as what they're doing to teams. And I thought it was so

interesting about Sunday. So we always talk about the NBA and it's like Jordan had to get past the pistons before he could finally say this was their pistons. This was the chiefs. They'd always beaten Josh Allen and it was like until you get past them. And he quite physically and figuratively, if you want to be symbolic about this, jumped over them when he had that leap over Ligerius Sneed. But what I loved was like there was the rain delay for an hour and a half. And here we are winning at halftime. And in a lot of different situations, the chiefs would be like, like, all right, look, we got an hour break here, an hour building, an hour confines. They're the ones with everything to lose. They're the ones in our spot. And the bills came out of that

rain delay without any of their own music or their own lockers or their own stuff in their building. And they blew them out in the second half. It was almost like they blew them out twice on Sunday. Yeah, that's a great point. We're going to have a break and then we're going to beat you again. I get two different games. They won 38 to 20. And what Leslie Frazier did was they sat in quarters the whole time. They're like, all right, we're not going to let Mahomes beat us deep. Try to pick us apart. Mistakes were made. They fumbled the ball, four turnovers again for the chiefs. It felt like it was a changing of the guard.

And I have no problem saying that. The chiefs are two and three, and their defense is not getting any better anytime soon. Feels like it's the Bill's conference right now. And that's okay. They earned it. They did it that way Sunday. Yeah, good way to put it. They blew them out twice.

So the Steelers lose Juju, and that's not great. He's a wide receiver, though he doesn't feel like a one, sometimes not a two for them. But if you didn't watch that game, and I know you did, there is good news on the horizon for that offense. Yeah, look, Najee Harris showed up. We were waiting for this moment, and here he is, 145 total yards, and they're feeding the ball late, and he's getting behind that offensive line.

And just when you want to bury the Steelers, and just when you want to bury Ben, they'll beat a Broncos team handedly. Then you look at the schedule, and they're like, they got the Seahawks coming to their building this weekend. Seahawks have Gino Smith and maybe the worst defense in the NFL. Like, the Steelers can start rattling off victories here. They will not just go away.

Not when Mike Tomlin's the coach. I thought they showed a lot in that game on Sunday. And Ben threw a touchdown early to Johnson. You're like, all right, then he almost threw a couple picks. They got lucky on those. And then they clamped down at the end, and they did not lose that game. I think they're going to win Sunday night. Suddenly they'll have three wins on the year.

They'll go into their by week. And then away we go. We'll see if Ben can hit the rejuvenation machine one more time and just do enough. I don't think there's many more football years left in Ben Rothelzberger's arm. I'm not sure what they are beyond 20, 21, but I find it fascinating that now they've discovered this running back and they found a way to get a win with him leading the way. Maybe they can eke out one more playoff season and who knows if they get in the tournament. A team I thought would double its wins. I've always held Mike Zimmer in high regard.

I feel like they're well coached. Last year they had a rash of injuries. Their season has been insane in Minnesota. Maybe Chicago is the second best team in that division. What do you make of the Vikings and where? where they're headed and where they're, where they are now. Colin, the story after that win, I say win in quotations over the Lions was Dan Campbell crying, right? And Joy, I heard you talking about it earlier today.

And I get it. And it's like, this is going to be the breakdown. The Vikings, there was no way the Vikings could lose that game. And they almost gave it away. They were up 16 to 6. They take a field goal with three minutes left. Their field goal kicker kicks it short. then they get the ball back up seven with a minute left,

and Alexander Madison is fighting for extra yards in a game. They're up seven with just, you can take a knee. He fumbles, and then the touchdown happens, then the two-point conversion, and they win on this miraculous kick, and everyone's like, Vikings win. The Vikings have lost a game where Dalvin Cook fumbled in Cincinnati territory in overtime,

where Greg Joseph missed a 40-something-yarder after making a 50-yarder in Arizona, and they held the Brown's offense to just 14 points at home and still lost. Like the Vikings could be 5 and 0, legitimately could be 5 and oh. It's been the most frustrating team to watch week to week. And this is the moment where it's like we're two and three. We escape that game somehow with a victory after almost giving it away.

I think now is where cousins and Zimmer are like, all right, if it's going to happen for us as a duo, this is the moment. This is the year because I feel like the bears are better than them in the standings, but Vikings probably should be better than them. And the Packers, though they're four and one, have let teams hang around. I'm fascinated with this part of the season for Minnesota because they could easily miss the playoffs and that's that and then we say, okay, on to the next regime or whatever it is. Or Zimmer can say, this is not acceptable. We need to win games that we should be winning

and we shouldn't be giving them away late. Fascinated team to watch because they played some really good football. It feels like they're losing in freakish ways and last week winning in freakish ways. So Cleveland's interesting. The GM and the coach inherited Baker Mayfield. As you know, GMs are less willing to bail on quarterbacks they draft. Steve Kime is very unique. He bailed after a year.

And Baker's now three and two. He's a 500 quarterback through 50 games, 26 and 24. Third and 10, they ran the ball. I thought that was very alarming. With a minute 26, they moved the ball 26 yards. Really, really discouraging. You're getting to a point now as he plays his peers, Justin Herbert last week. Kyler Murray. We got a game with Mack Jones, Joe Burrell. Two of them with Lamar Jack. These. are his peers, right? The GM's upstairs watching his age similar peer. What did Jamaica that Chargers loss and the opinions being formed now in Ohio on his future? You know, in Minnesota, when they won that game, there was a lot of hysteria because of the missed pass to Beckham.

And it's like, come on, we need more than 14 points. You need to, and the argument I would make there is like, they won, and this guy didn't throw any interceptions, and look where they are in the standings. Last week's game, there were some passes missed, and you're like, but yet they still put up 42 points and they were up 14 points late. Like, I have a hard time caring about the stats and caring about the ways doing it and comparing him to Lamar and Josh Allen and the rest as long as they win. So they're three and two right now. He takes his team to the playoffs. They win a couple games in the playoffs. They win a game in the playoffs.

I think you need to pay him because it's like, all right, we've got our guy. I'd rather that than door number two, which we don't know what's coming out in the draft. But if you start losing games and your sub 500, then the conversation goes, do we extend this guy and do we make him the face of our franchise for the next five years? Or are we moving on? But Colin, I don't know. This guy, I can't blame him here. They're winning games. And when you're winning games, that's all that matters in the end.

Yeah. Finally, what do you make of the Cowboys? I put him number two on my top 10 this week because, as Nick Wright said earlier, they don't have a ton of weaknesses. Zeke has now reemerged, meaning DAC-competed. throw fewer times. He's 17 and 4 his rookie year and five games this year. In both years, he threw it 32 times or less. There is a recipe here. It's not a criticism necessarily of DAC, but what do you make of what you see with the Cowboys? Colin, someone just switched my audio. I think we're talking Cowboys. I'll take my earpiece out here. I'm hearing conversation elsewhere,

but when it comes to the Cowboys in this team, I think the real big difference is that they can do it both offense with quarterback and both offense with the running back. They got it both going on right now. And in recent years, it's been this one's been great, this one's been this way, this one's been bad, this one's been good. Here's the other thing. They are not just putting up yards and stats in garbage time. Last year, they put up big numbers, but a lot of that was well after the fact

and they were losing and they were catching up and they were in these crazy shootouts and they just compiled stats at the end. I think what the Cowboys are doing right now is balance, which makes them so good. And then the defense, so they're giving up a ton of yards, they're getting takeaways. I apologize if that wasn't the answer to your question. I had another audio in my ear. I'm sorry, man. No, I segueed to baseball right in the middle of it. No, you were great. We talked cowboys. You nailed it. I appreciate it.

Well, how about them, cowboys? Looking good starting four and one. And Vice President Stephen Jones says this year's team has some similarities to those 90s Super Bowl teams. You know, it starts at the top with the quarterback. I mean, Troy was obviously a great leader. I think DAC is the same. You know, the other thing I would say is this team plays with a swagger.

You know, on the flip side of the ball, you brought it up. It's team speed, which reminds me a lot of those teams. There are a lot of similarity to the two teams. Now, this team has a lot to prove in a long ways to go before you can actually, I think, compare this team to those teams that won three out of four in the early 90s. Yeah, I don't know. I think I'm backing off on that. It's okay to talk about the Super Bowl talk with the Cowboys.

Those teams had like six Hall of Famers. I wouldn't go quite there. I think we need to slow down a little bit. Yeah. This team's also kind of young because four of their best players are young. So it is a little young. That team. Well, I like the Cowboys.

I thought they were going to win the division. And I'm very impressed with the turnaround on the defensive side of the ball, which was the biggest question because we knew what DAC was capable of and really what this receiving core was going to be capable. of with a quarterback like DAC. Ezekiel Elliott has been a bright spot as well. There were some questions about him going into the season. So overall, Cowboys fans and the Cowboys should feel good about the direction in which they're

going and what they've been able to accomplish so far this year. But we still got to get to the postseason. You've got to win the game in the postseason and then another one and then another one, another one. Like we've got to slow down just a little bit on the Super Bowl talk. Like let's win the next game. I feel like great teams don't talk about that. Like they're focused on winning the next game. When you talk to the Chiefs or the Patriots or the Packers,

like those are obviously the expectations, but let's not get too far ahead of ourselves here. I like the Cowboys a lot, but we got to see them in the postseason. Now, they play in Foxborough on Sunday. They never won against Belichick and their three and a half point favorites, according to Fox Bet. I think they'll win that game. continue to build on the momentum that they have.

But to your point, they're really young, and let's see them take the next step up. And they're also real healthy right now outside of DeMarcus Lawrence. So, you know, this is a war of attrition most years. So Tom Brady heard his right thumb. A lot of finger injuries this past week and bad kicking. Tom Brady heard his right thumb early in Sunday's win over the dolphins. And he said this week on his Let's Go podcast that this injury is nothing compared to other ones he suffered.

obviously a little bit sore after any time you hit it on a on someone or a helmet or whatever. You know, your hand can become pretty vulnerable. So I broke my ring finger on my right hand, I tore ligaments on my middle finger, tore ligaments in my pointer finger, rip my thumb almost apart one time. So this is just, you know, hopefully something I could work through here pretty quickly. It's a little bit sore, but nothing I'm not used to. I've certainly had worse. Do you remember on Tom versus time when he had that?

Oh, gosh. Oh, God. It's amazing. he played that week. There was like a hole in his hands. American hero. There's no way I could work in the medical field. I can't like blood doesn't bother me. I'm not like one of those people that like faints and they see blood or something.

My daughter doesn't like shots. I like, I could get shots. Shots don't bother me. I have big veins. I'm the same way. That's what the nurses always say. You got big veins. Just hold that ball, squeeze it. Boom. I want got shots three days in a row this week. Look forward to it. I used to not like flying a ton and then you just do it for so long

kind of attacked that I said I'm tired of having anxiety before I fly about 15 years ago so I flew a bunch and I couldn't care a lot of things. Yeah you know what? I made a decision with that too I used to get really scared flying

and then I would talk to people about it and they're like yeah I got to sit by in the exit road I'm like I'm fine so I just like you know what I can't fly a plane so there's nothing I can do in this situation

and like shots except for remain calm nobody's ever you never heard this story guy dies getting a shot at the hospital. I don't know. Can we say never? I mean, I'm giving blood. Hey, you died. I don't know, but it doesn't bother me.

I'm alive. I'm good. But sewing someone's open wounds like Tom Brady's hands, remember he was exercising and it was like really gross. But he's saying he's okay. He's going to take it easy when it comes to high fives and fist bumps and handshakes this week, which is probably smart. He threw for 411 yards and five touchdowns,

so it obviously wasn't bothering him too much. And they face the Eagles tomorrow night, 730 Eastern on Fox, and the Bucks are currently favored by six and a half, according to Fox Bet. So looking forward to that game. So the Astros clinched their fifth straight trip to the ALCS yesterday, beating the White Sox 10 to 1. They've become the third team in the divisional era since 1969 to lead the LCS in five consecutive seasons,

join the Braves and the Aves. And they might have been fueled by some comments by the White Sox relief pitcher Ryan to Perra, who suggested that they were stealing signs after game three, or they could just still be a really good team. The NLDS, the Dodgers were able to tie up their series last night against the Giants. Walker Bueller only allowed one run. LA pulled off the 7-2 to win to force a game five tomorrow night in San Francisco. The reported starters are Julio Urius for the Dodgers and Logan Webb for the Giants. And the winner of that series with the Dodgers and the Giants will face the Atlanta Braves in the NLCS.

Astros will face the Red Sox and the ALCS, and they are favored in game one. That is Saturday at 730 Eastern on Fox. So we are in the thick of baseball playoffs right now, and it's been great. I'm all over the place. All right. He's very employed. Highly employed. So I want to start with this. I thought it was, I said this. Steve Balmer of the Clippers, David Tepper of the Panthers. These are the hedge fund and tech guys work in industry, the billionaires, that are impatient

industries. What are you done for me now? If they're very, tech's very fluid, hedge fund's very fluid. You used to be in ownership, you could be a card dealer. That's about customer satisfaction and patience and building a brand. A lot of these new owners are tech and hedge fund guys and they got no patience. And as I

watched Darnold in the second half, I thought, I could see David Teper going, I'm out, let's just, let's, so were you more impressed with Jalen Hertz coming back or more disappointed for an organization you work with in Darnel losing the lead? I think there's some disappointment in Darnel losing the lead, but I think everyone has to understand how you view Sam Darnel in this situation.

We talk about quarterbacks coming in two different categories. We can talk about trucks and trailers. Can they carry the franchise? Do they need the other parts of the franchise to carry them to have success? I think we were optimistic when Sam Darnel came out of college that he was going to be a truck based on what we saw at SC, that he was going to be able to put a franchise on his back and do all those things.

What we're seeing is he needs all the things around him. He needs a system in place that allows him to play at his best. What Sam has to do is eliminate what we call us the turnovers, the silly decisions that lead the ball to the other team. He's very reckless and careless with the ball. And so you can't play winning football when you're turning it over. And so he has to rein that back in. And he will do a better job when Christian McCaffrey comes back.

but that in itself tells you who he is and what he's about. He needs number 22 on the field to be able to feel to be comfortable enough to really win games at a high level. So I said with Jalen Hertz, he's not quite accurate enough throwing the football, but I watched Josh Allen, Kyler Marie Lamar, run for about a year and a half until they got closer to mastering the pocket. Russell Wilson did this for about a year. If you can use your legs for about a year, it buys you some time.

He moves. He averaged about seven yards of carry. I don't know if he's a good enough thrower, but I can't make a decision yet. What did you make of his performance? Okay, so I've always likened Jalen Hertz to Dak Prescott. If you go back and look at Dak Prescott when he was at Mississippi State,

there are a lot of similarities in the way that they play. You look at their body bills. There's a lot of similarities in how physically fit and just how they look and how dense they are. The best thing about Dak Prescott and Jalen Hurts as young players, their leadership ability. everything that you hear coming out of Philadelphia when it comes to Jayland Hurst is about his leadership ability

his ability to galvanize the group, his ability to get the group heading in the right direction. And what you hope is that you take all of those intangibles. And then he becomes a more efficient passer to go with the running skills that he displays. And maybe just maybe if you're Philadelphia, you look to your competitor in the division, the Cowboys, and maybe you have a Dak Prescott who can win games.

It might not always be flasher the way that we on the outside look, but he gets the team to the winner circle. That is ultimately the job of the quarterback. He can win in this league. He can win in his own fashion. All right, great. All right, Bears, Justin Fields, they go to the Raiders. Raiders are flat.

I liked that they didn't ask him as a rookie quarterback to do things he's not ready to do. I thought, you know, I like Matt Nagy. I may be in the minority, but he got to the playoffs twice with Mitch Tribesky. I thought the game plan was, hey, we think our guys up front can control their O line. We don't need you to do a ton. We're not going to ask you. We're not going to put you in places to do things. We don't think you're ready to do.

I like the whole game plan. I thought the whole feel of it was how the bears need to win. No, the bears just have to win. And I think for Matt Nagy, the best thing that he can do is talk less and win more. The more that he talks, the more that he gets himself in trouble when he makes these proclamations, and then he's not able to live up to him. What he needs to do is just focus on winning. However the bears win, it doesn't matter because it goes on his ledger,

and it extends what we talk about. He's been to the playoffs a couple times. When you go to the playoffs, you have to give him credit for being able to do that. If he's able to take a rookie quarterback with his team and go to the playoffs again, at some point you have to get Matt Nagy credit for his ability to lead the team. It is not always perfect. He doesn't win the pressers, but the team does win. And I do believe that the team feeds off the fact that Justin Fields gives them hope.

There's some optimism in the locker room. Sure. Look, he'll eventually figure out. He's a big-time athlete. He has big-time arm talent. they've been able to push the ball down to field more since he stepped in. That gives them a chance. He didn't play great, but he played well enough for them to win because the defense played better.

As long as they're able to run it, play great defense, and he makes a handful of plays, the Bears are being most guys. For the record, I do think a quarterback can change the locker room. I felt this watching the Bears is that Justin's ability to make plays instills a certain level of juice to the defensive side. You get behind with Andy Dalton in this league. you kind of toast. And I kind of felt watching the bears, it was close, it wasn't pretty. But the defensive effort, they had the energy for four quarters. And I do think there are times, if Michael Vic, I had a teammate of Michael Vic once

tell me, with Michael, you had a shot. Yeah. He could do 80 yards in one play. And I do think the bears, they need juice at quarterback. The O-line's not good. They have some limited offensive weapons. I kind of feel like watching them now, yeah, that's the fit. That is a fit.

And that's what you want from your franchise quarterback. Anyone who is watching the game, the feeling that you want to have is, if it's two minutes left and your team gets to ball back, and you see your quarterback run onto the field, you're optimistic that something good is going to happen. And that is what we're seeing in the league. Because right now is a great time with all the young quarterbacks that we have in the league. There are a ton of quarterbacks that we're looking at grow up right in front of eyes that can give hope. Justin Fields is going to be the next generation of those young quarterbacks that when they step onto the field, you see their team rally behind their ability.

And so it's not about necessarily the stats and all the stylistic things. It's about how do you feel when that guy gets the ball with two minutes left? Do you believe that your team is going to win because they somehow find a way to get it done? So it's very interesting. I don't expect young quarterbacks to do veteran quarterback things. But Baker Mayfield has over 50 starts. Okay, when you get the, forget the third and 10 running it. Let's just take that out.

you get the ball with a minute 26 left. Bucky, he checked down three times. And I'm not asking you to be Aaron Rogers. That's like asking an NBA player to be LeBron. You've got to move the ball more than 26 yards. By the way, one of those was just over the middle. They had no timeouts. So, you know, I got a minute 26.

I got no timeouts. Well, those are sideline routes. And in fact, if it's a short dump off, just ground it. You're in four-down territory. You've got to figure that out. You've got no timeouts. He threw a couple of balls over the middle, checkdowns. I'm like, Baker, that's a 40-second play now.

I thought he grossly miss. Forget the third and ten. I thought he grossly mismanage that. Okay, so we're getting to the point we're beginning to have enough information on Baker-Mayfield to know exactly what he is. We have seen them in this situation a few different times where the game comes down to, A, Baker-Mayfield, this offense has to rely on your own. arm. The running game has done everything they can do today, but now we need you to go make a

drive. And in that game, and this is why I think this would be the game that evaluators look at, when you're trying to make a decision on how much money do we pay Baker Mayfield? Because in that game, we saw Justin Herbert on the other side, and we saw Brandon Staley going for it and saying, hey, I got a superstar quarterback. I'm putting it in his hands. It doesn't matter. I believe in my quarterback enough that I'm going to let them do it. And then on the other hand, at the end of the game, you got a minute and 30 left, and Baker Mayfield throws checkdown, check down, check down. And not only that, the number one receiver should be Odell Beckham Jr. He's throwing to Rashad Higgins. He's throwing to Donovan People's Jones.

To me, at some point, you want to see the number one overall pick, because we can't treat him like he's an underdog. He's the number one overall pick. At that moment, the number one overall pick needs to take over. And so for me, Baker Mayfield goes in a category with Jared Gough and others. And I like Jared Gough. But what you have to understand is, we, got to make sure that the rest of the team is at an A level so this guy can get us there. Because we saw Jerry Goff get the Rams to the Super Bowl, but it wasn't quite enough. So the Browns can go. And the minute you paid Goff, then it deteriorates.

Right. So you have to look at Baker Mayfield. And you have to be honest in your assessment. Where is that quarterback stack up in the AFC to Pat Mahomes, Josh Allen, Lamar Jackson, Justin Herbert? Because those are the guys that he's going to have to beat for us to get to the Super Bowl. By the way, I don't have proof. yet, but I would argue Burrow and Trevor Lawrence are both better.

Yes, I would say more talented for sure. Joe Burrow right now would give more because Trevor Lawrence has won games. I don't know QB wins isn't a stat, but you're right. When you're building your team, you have to look around and say, who are the teams that we have to knock off? Of course. And those quarterbacks that we're talking about, we can say whatever you want to say about, Pat Mahomes, Josh Allen, Lamar Jackson, and Justin Herbert, they're going to be there. They're better now and they're getting better.

Like Mahomes, we know it. Baker, to me, has plateaued. Your opening line is, we know what we got. We know what we have now. Herbert, I mean, honestly, Lamar Jackson Monday is like, let's just talk about that for a second. Is I'm not a stubborn guy. Like, I didn't know. He was thin.

He ran a lot. Weird delivery. I didn't know. And then, you know, even Joe Burrell, second game, Kyler Murray's second game. I'm like, all right, that's going to work. With Lamar, it wasn't artistic. Whereas Kyler throws a great ball, Burroughs. With Lamar, it looks different.

I say it's a lightning storm. I'm not sure where it's going, how it's zagging, it's electric. But I'm watching him Monday and I'm like, boy, forget good enough to win a Super Bowl. Should he be favored? I mean, he's in the Josh Allen. His ability, you ever notice this when you watch Baltimore? How open people are. Because linebackers are glued to the line.

These holes for Mark Andrews. his receivers are so open so many times. I just think he's more special than I think we even give him credit for, and I think we're now acknowledging he's good. No, no, no, I think he's special. And that's why those four guys deserve to be in that category. When we talk about the best of the best and the best in the AFC and those guys that are emerging, Lamar Jackson, Josh Allen, to me in that draft class, they were the biggest surprises, right?

Because those were the guys that were unorthodox or unconventional in how they played. but we have enough proof for both guys to see, oh, it may look different, but they both have been able to put the franchise on their back and win significant games to get their teams into the playoffs and make runs. Lamar Jackson to MVP, he's been recognized as being the best player in the league. Now it comes down to, if you're Baltimore, one, you need to get this done, this deal done, because the more he plays, it only goes up. And we're in that he wasn't going to settle for less than Josh Allen.

and Pat Mahomes is like but the more he plays the more he's like hey you know I gotta get that 45 million per it's a lot but those guys have been outstanding and I'm gonna say this because I said it over the weekend watching Justin Herbert to me right now I think you have to consider

Justin Herbert QB1 the stuff that we're seeing Justin Herbert do he is absolutely remarkable at this stage of his career his ability to put the franchise on the back to make all the throws to do all the stuff with no mistakes no pecks

Everything that you look for. Prototypical size, armed talent, athleticism, and he has the clutch factor. He is what you want a quarterback. Bucky Brooks. That was a lot. That was a meat sandwich right there. That's a lot of information.
