Starting point is 00:00:00 This is an I-Heart podcast. Guaranteed Human. Another podcast from some SNL, late-night comedy guy, not quite. Unhumor me with Robert Smygel and friends. Me and hilarious guests from Bob Odenkirk to David Letterman help make you funnier. This week, my guest, SNL's Mikey Day and head writer, Streeter Seidel, help an a cappella band with their between songs banter. Where does your group perform?
Starting point is 00:00:24 We do some retirement homes. Those people are starving for banter. Listen to humor me with Robert Smigel and friends on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Imagine an Olympics where doping is not only legal, but encouraged. It's the enhanced games. Some call it grotesque. Others say it's unleashing human potential.
Starting point is 00:00:45 Either way, the podcast's Superhuman documented it all, embedded in the games and with the athletes for a full year. Within probably 10 days, I'd put on 10 pounds. I was having trouble stopping the muscle growth. Listen to Superhuman on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. On the Look Back at it podcast. For 1979, that was a big moment for me. 84 was big to me.
Starting point is 00:01:09 I'm Sam J. And I'm Alex English. Each episode, we pick a year, unpack what went down, and try to make sense of how we survived it. With our friends, fellow comedians, and favorite authors. Like Mark Lamont Hill on the 80s. 84 was a wild year. It was a wild year. I don't think there's a more important year for black people.
Starting point is 00:01:27 Listen to look back at it on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. A win is a win. A win is a win. I don't care what I'm saying. Yep, that's me, Clifford Taylor the 4th. You might have seen the skits, my basketball and college football journey, or my career in sports media. Well, now I'm bringing all of that excitement to my brand new podcast, The Clifers Show. This is a place for raw, unfilled conversations with athletes, creators, and voices that not only deserve to be heard,
Starting point is 00:01:57 but celebrated. So let's get to it. Listen to the Clifford show on the IHeard radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcast. And for more behind the scenes, follow at Clifford and at TikTok podcast network on TikTok. Thanks for listening to The Heard podcast. Be sure to catch us live every weekday from 12 to 3 Eastern,
Starting point is 00:02:15 9 to noon Pacific on Fox Sports Radio and FS1. Find your local station for the herd at Fox Sports Radio.com or stream us live every day on the iHeartRadio app by searching Hurd. You're listening to Foxxport's. Sports Radio. Played for nine years as a pro bowl center for the Bills. Now he's part of their radio team. He's learning to fill time and blowouts because that's the only way the bills win.
Starting point is 00:02:43 Eric Wood is now joining us live. You know, last year, we pointed out there was a stat. They were 0 for six and close games last year, and all their wins came. You know, I call it the Mike Tyson kind of style, which it's not the most nuanced, not much of a jab. but if you're not prepared, they knock you out. Are you ever concerned, though, that they're kind of, you know, I say they're the avalanche, you hope you're not a skier, but they were not great in close games last year. And eventually, Kansas City, the Chargers, you know, you're going to face Baltimore.
Starting point is 00:03:15 This is going to be decided by three and four points. Is that concern you at all? It's right now they're kind of a one way to win team, which is blow teams doors off. Yeah, and that's definitely a concern. When you look at the bills last season, they lose games to the Titans who ends up being the number one overall seed in the AFC and they lose them by three points. They lose in overtime to Kansas City and the postseason. Yes, that is a concern. Now, at this point, the bills have looked so good.
Starting point is 00:03:43 You're not worried about proving yourself in that manner, especially early in the season when you're able to rest your starters on a Monday night football game, midway through the third quarter on a short week when you're heading to Miami. That's a great thing. you're not concerned about necessarily right now can you win those close games. And that's kind of the next progression for Josh Allen being that ultimate closer because the trajectory his career has had so far going from last in the NFL and completion percentage, two years in a row to start his career to what he is now, is the Super Bowl favorite with the Bill's quarterback and MVP favorite.
Starting point is 00:04:20 That winning close games at the end, that's maybe the last piece of the progression. Miami's next. And I think Tua is certainly capable. I'm not going crazy on what I see. You guys face him next. What have you seen from Tua with this new coach where you have seen growth? I'm seeing confidence from him. And you can't blame Tua for not having confidence early in his career.
Starting point is 00:04:46 He rotates with Ryan Fitzpatrick his first year there to where if he ever throws a bad ball, Brian Flores, quick yank out of the game. Fitz coming and try and win us his. game. Then last year, he's the primary start. He's the starting quarterback. They name him. And then there's all those trade rumors about are they bringing in Desjohn Watson? And is he going to be the guy moving forward? Mike McDaniels comes in and Mike McDaniel comes in and gives him the full confidence. They give him a bunch of weapons. And the one thing I'm seeing from two and now that I didn't necessarily see as much the last two years is quick decision making. Now, when you have
Starting point is 00:05:19 Waddle and Tyreek Hill and Gaseki and Mosec and Mosec and Edmonds and you have all that. speed on the field. At times it is easy to make quick decisions. You know that you can get those chunk plays without having to hold on the ball for two and a half, three seconds. So in your division, New England now, really, they're a one way to win team. I watched them again. I mean, I sat through the entire game with Pittsburgh. They want to jump out to a lead. They want to eat the clock. They're going to control it with screens in the run game. Very little downfield. I don't think you can beat Buffalo in that manner. How do you look at New England today? Forget the dynasty. For years, you looked up at them.
Starting point is 00:05:56 Now how to, and now the bills have the best pass rush in the league. How do you look at New England? Honestly, today, if you live in Buffalo or play for the bills. If you don't make a bunch of mistakes, you're going to steamroll them like you did in the playoffs. They beat them at New England, Handily last year. And you're right. When you don't have enough firepower on offense, eventually you're going to have a couple three and outs.
Starting point is 00:06:16 You're going to have a turnover. And that's when the points are going to rack up you on you in a hurry when you're playing the bills. Now, if you have an offense to match it, you can play. them in a good game. We've seen Kansas City do it last year. And, you know, you're seeing these teams, Baltimore, Miami, these teams that could put up points. To me, they just seem like so much more of a threat than the Patriots, because you're right. New England beats the bills last year once, and there was 50-mile-hour wins in Orchard Park. Mac Jones only throws the
Starting point is 00:06:43 ball three times in that game. And so that being said, I'm not super concerned with Mack Jones right now be going to able to go toe-to-to-to-to with Josh Allen. When you play the Patriots nowadays, it's simply, can we limit the mistakes and if we are able to limit mistakes and not turn the ball over, we're going to come out with a victory. Yeah, it's a whole different world we live in now and they've got coordinator issues. So the
Starting point is 00:07:06 Nathaniel Hackett stuff. Now I know you're in the booth for the bills and you don't see all these games quite like we do but I said, I want you to go back to Sean McDermott early. Generally speaking, I know a coach is the right coach generally. if their side of the ball, McDermott defense or Sean McVeigh offense, if they can figure that out in a year, like McVeigh came to L.A. and golf was a bust, and immediately the offense worked. You're like, okay, I don't know if he's going to be a great hate coach, but he knows one side of the ball.
Starting point is 00:07:40 Nathaniel Hackett's an offensive guy. The offense is a mess. It's the defense in Denver that's good. So go back to McDermott's first couple years. I don't remember much. I remember they got him into the playoffs with Tyrod Taylor. But if I recall, they solved the defense pretty quickly with McDermott. Did they not? Yeah, when they came in, Sean McDermott, Leslie Frazier, our defense was definitely better than our offense. We had hired Rick Denison. That ended up to be in my last season. Rick Denison was hired from the Shanahan tree. It seems like some of those Shanahan guys have taken off once they get an opportunity as an OC, but Rick is back to being an offensive line coach now. But we hired Rick and our offense wasn't great. Now, we ran the ball well.
Starting point is 00:08:20 We didn't make a lot of mistakes. We had kind of a classic Shaw McDermott-type consistency on a day-to-day basis, but we weren't going to blow the doors off of people, but we sneak into the playoffs that year break the longest playoff drought in all of professional sports, but you're right. That defense was special that year. We had more talent on that side of the ball. And then over time, what McDermott has been,
Starting point is 00:08:44 McDermott and Brandon Bean, what they've built on the defensive side of the football. Everyone talks about Josh Allen and Stefan Diggs and Gabe Davis and these guys that are lighting the world on fire, and you get fantasy football points that way. But man, this defense, they got in Buffalo is special. Yeah, it's really a remarkable place in America. I think one of the reasons that the NFL,
Starting point is 00:09:02 one of the many reasons it's more popular than other sports, is that if you look in America right now, it's the small markets, Green Bay, Buffalo, Kansas City, Cincinnati, some of your best quarterbacks and best players are in these small markets that couldn't financially compete in baseball, and they wouldn't have the glamour in basketball to get free agents. What is it like to be in Buffalo when the team is great?
Starting point is 00:09:27 What is it like to live in that community and be there regularly? I mean, you're just entrenched in it. Everyone in town is excited. Yesterday, the kids got a half day of school because the bills had a Monday night football game and they were so concerned that the traffic would be bad on their way home from school that these kids would get stuck on buses. That doesn't happen anywhere else in the country. But that's all well and good.
Starting point is 00:09:48 but if you don't have a great team to match it, it's not going to attract those free agents like you talk about. But now this offseason, Vaughn Miller comes in. He wants to come in play here. Stefan Diggs signs a contract extension after they trade for him from the Vikings. And so it's a special time in Buffalo right now.
Starting point is 00:10:06 My wife came to the game. Yesterday, I was in the booth calling the game. I got a headset on. She hadn't been to a game in a couple of years, but she went to games for a decade. And she said that was by far the loudest and the most crowded. The stadium has been since she was a third. attending games. Yeah, it really is something special. He's got a new book out. It's right behind
Starting point is 00:10:22 him called Tackle What's Next. Ordered on Amazon. Stack wins. Achieve your goals in business and life. He's a radio analyst for the Bulls and a former Pro Bowl center for nine years for the bills, not the Bulls, the Bills. Tackle What's Next. It's Eric Wood. It's great seeing you, my man. Yeah, likewise. Anytime you won't be on, just holler. All right. Yeah, it is a special place. I really do think there's a lot of reasons that the NFL is king. And I think a big part of it is because the minor league system, college football is so popular. So we know the players. We have a connection to them emotionally.
Starting point is 00:10:55 We've watched them in college at Ohio State and Bama and Texas and Oklahoma for years. Then they go. Whereas basketball is international. Baseball's got kind of an anonymous minor league system. Players just sort of appear and they're good. There's a long emotional ride from high school recruiting to college football playing to the NFL, got all these connections. But it is pretty amazing when the middle of the country,
Starting point is 00:11:17 the Cincinnati's and the Buffaloes, not in the middle of the country. The Green Bay's, the New Orleans, year after year, Tampa can be viable and challenged for the Super Bowl. The New York teams have been in the tank forever. You know, I mean, the Chargers disappoint us all the time, right? The big city teams, Atlanta, Philadelphia, D.C., that's not where the wins are. The Bears, that's not where the wins are. The wins are in the NFL because of their cap structure because you just can't buy a team like baseball. And it's not a glamour sport.
Starting point is 00:11:47 It's a go-to-work, work hard. If not, you'll get cut sport. And Buffalo is so good for the league when they're winning. It's just such a great story. Be sure to catch live editions of the herd weekdays in noon Eastern, 9 a.m. Pacific. On Fox Sports Radio, FS1, and the I-Hard Radio app. Imagine an Olympics where doping is not only legal but encouraged. It's the enhanced games.

You might have seen the skits, the reactions, my journey from basketball to college football, or my career in sports media. Well, somewhere along the way, this platform became bigger than I ever imagined. And now I'm bringing all of that excitement
Starting point is 00:12:53 to my brand new podcast, The Clifford Show. This is a place for raw, unfiltered conversations with some of your favorite athletes, creators, and voices that not only deserve to be heard, but celebrated. One week, I'll take you behind the scenes of the biggest moments in sports and entertainment, and the next we'll talk about life,
Starting point is 00:13:10 mental health, purpose, and even music. The Clifford Show isn't just a podcast. It's a space. For honest conversations, stories that don't always get told, and for people who are chasing something bigger. So if you've ever supported me or you're just chasing down a dream, this is right where you need to be. Listen to The Clifford Show on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts,
Starting point is 00:13:30 or wherever you get your podcast. And for more behind the scenes, follow at Clifford and at TikTok Podcast Network on TikTok. Hey, this is Robert from the Stuff to Blow Your Mind podcast. Joe and I are both lifelong Star Wars fan, so we're celebrating May the 4th with a brand new week of fun thought-provoking Star Wars-related episodes. Join us as we tackle science and culture topics
Starting point is 00:13:50 from a galaxy far, far away, such as the biology of taun tons and wampas on the ice planet hot, or the practicality and corporate business sense of the Sith rule of two. Listen to stuff to blow your mind on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts.
Starting point is 00:14:07 Do you remember when Diana Ross double-tapped Little Kim's boobs at the VMAs? Or when Kanye said that George Bush didn't like black people. I know what you're thinking. What the hell does George Bush got to do a little kill? Well, you can find out on the Look Back at it podcast. I'm Sam J.
Starting point is 00:14:22 And I'm Alex English. Each episode, we pick it here, unpack what went down, and try to make sense of how we survived it. Including a recent episode with Mark Lamont Hill, waxing all about crack in the 80s. To be clear, 84 is big to me, not just because of crack. I'm down to talk about crack on day, but just so y'all know. I mean, at this point, Mark, this is the second episode where we've discussed.
Starting point is 00:14:44 That's correct. So I'm starting to see that there's a through line. We also have AIDS on the table right now. Thank you for finishing that sentence. Yes. I don't think there's a more important year for black people. Really? Yeah.
Starting point is 00:14:57 For me, it's one of the most important years for black people in American history. Listen to look back at it on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. J-Mac with the news. No, no, no, no. Turn on the news. This is the herd line news. Start with that Bill's game, Colin. Ryan Tannahill threw for 117 yards and two interceptions.
Starting point is 00:15:19 I think the Titans were the number one seed in the playoffs last year, Colin. Remember that? It feels like forever ago. Well, they had a good pass rush last year and added Von Miller. And a lot of their guys up front are kids. So it's like, this is hard. This is a really destructive force up front. Ryan Tannahill is just hoping the team can quickly put this loss, this bad loss, behind him.
Starting point is 00:15:39 Here's what he said. It's brutal. I haven't been part of a whole game, a whole lot of games like. like that. A brutal, brutal night. We have a lot of football in front of us, so we have to turn the page quickly on this one. Get ready to go out next week. This one is tough to swallow, but we can't sit around and have this wo-is-me attitude. We have to be able to turn the page and get some things fixed and come out ready to go next week. They are at home against the Las Vegas Raiders on
Starting point is 00:16:03 Sunday. Vegas is a favorite on the road. Well, when they lost A.J. Brown, do you remember this, J. Mack? Vrable came out. Remember that? And he was so... depressed. Brable's a straight shooter. He's like, listen, man, sometimes you just can't afford what you need. And because of what they pay,
Starting point is 00:16:21 Tanahill and a couple of others, they didn't want to let A.J. Brown go. And you can see, A.J. Brown simultaneously hurt one team and has elevated Philadelphia. Like, that's the new league where a wide receiver can have the impact on two teams.
Starting point is 00:16:35 I don't know if you saw the Derek Henry stats last night. I like to joke on this show. He's sometimes running with a piano on his back. Right. But he looks so slow. Yeah. plotting the injury last year. And they ran him into the ground. Well, also, it's like how many years can you ask a pitcher to throw 250 innings?
Starting point is 00:16:51 Like Derek Henry, that position, he is in, and people forget this. His first couple years in the league, he didn't start. So he's, I mean, he was a workhorse at Alabama. He was getting, people think, he doesn't feel like he's been in the league as long as he has because the first two or three years, he wasn't a prominent player. So he's taken a lot of carries at high-level. SEC football and now the NFL. If you have no Derek Henry and then no receivers to speak of,
Starting point is 00:17:18 like I've never even heard of these guys, Tanna Hills throwing to. Colin, this game against Vegas on Sunday feels like the losers toast, right? You'll be 0 and 3. I don't think Tennessee is in their division. I think the Raiders would be. That's fair. But I think Tennessee, I think Jacksonville this morning.
Starting point is 00:17:33 Oh, yeah. If I had to reseed that division, I'd absolutely put Jacksonville two or one. I think they're going to score 25. What about the Colts? Like Colts are about to start with another loss. They play the Chiefs. I know. Sunday. This is tough. There's no room in the NFL. All right. Next up, speaking of the Raiders, they blew a 16.4th quarter lead against the Cardinals on Sunday.
Starting point is 00:17:51 Ended up losing an overtime. Apparently it's the worst blown lead in the history of the franchise for the Raiders. Plenty of blame to go around. But Derrick Carr said that turning things around needs to begin with him. We have to learn how to win. And it starts with me. And it always will. And, you know, I think, you know, for the execution that we had in the first half, we did not execute each play with the detail, I think, that we should have, the way that we did in the first half. It goes back to what coach says, do our job. And no matter what the score is, if you just do your job at the end, it'll take care of itself. I'm sure when we watch the film, it'll be like, you know, over and over again, that'll be a theme.
Starting point is 00:18:34 Need to learn how to win? Well, weren't you guys in the playoffs last year? What are you talking about, dude? Good news for the Raiders. Chargers have some injuries. Denver's got a coaching issue. So it's not like the rest of the division is flying high. Right now, Justin Herbert for the next month, probably not 100%, and Denver can't get their offense right. So if you're going to struggle, we thought this division could have four playoff teams. Outside of Kansas City, it looks like there's a lot of stumbling right now in that division. But they've had now two bad fourth quarters in a row. I don't want to say they choked in the opener against the Chargers, but they did. Didn't get the job done. And then just an absolute embarrassment at home against Kyler Murray. Colin, this was a playoff team last year.
Starting point is 00:19:15 Last place in this division this year, right? For sure? Raiders, yes. Yes. All right, moving on. Final story. For the second straight week, the Panthers lost on a fourth quarter field goal from at least 56 yards out. Baker Mayfield had a chance to be the hero, but came up short, of course, on the final drive.
Starting point is 00:19:31 Cost me money. So I watched as their coach Matt Rule said, oh, let's send out the punt team with three minutes left. Like, dude, what are you doing? didn't even get the ball back. He's now 0-2 in Carolina, and Baker said he needs to do a better job of giving his team a chance to win. Colin, Baker-Mayfield experiment in Carolina. How are we doing there? Well, this goes back to something, I believe, that you better be ready when you're young because that may be one of the great offers of your life. So I think Baker's going to regret kind of blowing up the Cleveland situation because he will never get an offensive line that good the rest of
Starting point is 00:20:07 his career. They were the best or second best O line in this sport for two years. Now he's behind a line, which is the league average. This is what most offensive lines are like now. Ask Joe Burrow. Ask Cooper Rush. Ask Brady. Yeah. That Carolina line is, that's what everybody else has. Yeah. For two years, he had Nick Chubb, two good tight ends, Jarvis Landry, OBJ, and an offensive coach. Dude, that was your shot. That, now, in Chicago, Justin Fields. He's got a defensive coach. A bad O-line. One legit receiver. A nice tight end. So you have to be patient with him. But Justin Fields, this could be the worst support staff he's had, the worst group. Baker literally hit the lottery. Like Mahomes hit a little bit of the lottery.
Starting point is 00:20:56 Travis Kelsey, Tyreek Hill, Schwartz, a tackle, Andy Reed. We're forgetting. If Deshawn Watson was playing right now, Cleveland would be a top six team in the league. This is a a loaded roster. I talked earlier about franchises getting the young quarterback on the rookie deal going and getting wide receivers. The Browns got Juice Landry and Odell for Baker Mayfield. And they made the playoffs. Remember, they were within a couple plays of beating the Chiefs when Mahomes got the concussion.
Starting point is 00:21:23 And it all fell apart. You know why? Because Baker's ego got the better of him. Oh, my shoulders all busted up. But I'm going to try to play quarterback anyway. And he was so bad that it was a done deal. It was over. That shows the fine line in the NFL.
Starting point is 00:21:34 They went to the playoffs two years ago, second round with Baker. Remember they beat the Steelers first round? Yeah. And now Baker's like kind of, I mean, Colin, is this his last shot right here? Yeah, some of its luck. Drew Breeze goes to San Diego, gets hurt. Look at Nick Saban. If Nick Saban is allowed to get Drew Breeze, he never goes to Alabama.
Starting point is 00:21:54 The Alabama dynasty does not happen. He got coal pepper, right? He had coal pepper. He wanted Breeze. Nick Sabin with Breeze is going to win nine, ten games a year, right? So a lot of this is, you know, and Drew Breeze then gets an offensive. defensive genius Sean Peyton and a top GM Mickey Loomis. So Drew Breeze could have easily the career's over.
Starting point is 00:22:15 So, I mean, not that Drew's not talented, but what break did he get, getting Sean Payton, a great GM, excellent owners, and for like 10 years, he had elite people all over the organization. Some of this stuff, not that it's luck, Drew Breeze made a lot of his good fortune. But like, with Baker, I'm like, dude, don't screw Cleveland up. Like that is as good a line and running game as any young quarterback has had. Honestly, since Mark Sanchez went to the Jets. I remember. And they had DeBricasha Ferguson, Nick Mangold, and a really good running game.
Starting point is 00:22:48 It's like, you don't get that in the NFL. That's not the way it works. You go to a team that is almost always rebuilding their front. Sanchez, every time he comes on here, I remind him, you have four playoff wins as a quarterback. That's right. Two AFC's title games in a row. I vividly remember that. Obviously, I just worked the Jets.
Starting point is 00:23:03 Actually, you've worked the Jets into the Shepard. there. I'll give you credit, Calhurt. Jay Mack with the news. Well, that's the news. And thanks for stopping by. The Hurd line. Be sure to catch live editions of the Hurd, weekdays in noon Eastern, 9 a.m. Pacific.
Starting point is 00:23:17 He's by Carmen. I'm Dan Byrd. We have a brand new fantasy football podcast called I Want Your Flex. Starting point is 00:26:13 And I'm Alex English. I mean, at this point, Mark, this is the second episode where we've discussed correct. So I'm starting to see that there's a through line. We also have AIDS on the table right now.
Starting point is 00:26:41 Thank you for finishing that sentence. Yes. I don't think there's a more important year for black people. Really? Yeah. For me, it's one of the most important years for black people in American history. Listen to look back at it on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. MDrive's Supplements for Driven Men, want to try them for five bucks.
Starting point is 00:27:02 HARD to 55,000. Five bucks get in. Heard to 550000 to try MDrive. All right, J-M-M-Dry. We're going to play very impressed. Someone impressed or not that impressed with quarterback play this weekend. You ready to go? I think I'm ready, yes.
Starting point is 00:27:18 I believe so. All right, let's start with Tuatunga Viloa of 460 yards, six touchdowns. Okay, not that impressed. First of all, he didn't play great football for the first three quarters. the Ravens have the worst pass defense with three rookies in the secondary in the league right now. Now, he's 8 and 1 in his last 9 starts, but we're going crazy on this.
Starting point is 00:27:44 They're asking him to hit open receivers on busted coverage. The best quarterback in that game was Lamar Jackson. So listen, if he puts together four in a row like this, I'm blown away. But it was easily a great, his best quarter in what has been a spotty average career. All right. The Tuanon crowd is not going to be happy with your work on that one. Slight disagreement.
Starting point is 00:28:07 But what about Lamar Jackson? Let's go with that. Over 300 yards passing, over 100 yards rushing. Very impressed. First of all, you have the highest passer rating in the league last week, not Tua. He's getting nothing from his running game. You know what their running game is averaging? 2.6 yards of carry.
Starting point is 00:28:24 Yeah, the running backs. He is having to carry an offense. By the way, he lost his best receiver in the off season, whereas Tua got a superstar wide receiver and a superstar left tackle. So Tua is distributing the ball. Lamar is carrying a punchless offense. Yeah. Big difference.
Starting point is 00:28:45 Let's go to January Joe Flacco delivering in September. How impressed were you with Joe Flacco beating the Browns on the road, I should add? I would say somewhat impressed. He's not overly accurate. He completed 59% of his throws, but the Jets hadn't won in September in 13 games. you were on the road. It's a inferior roster. The players I do like for the Jets are mostly kids. You know, Corey Davis has been around, but it's a lot of young players. This is a team not built to win on the road right now with a backup quarterback. Young players, backup quarterback, better
Starting point is 00:29:16 team in Cleveland. So you've got to be honest about it. They had the game winning drive. Garrett Wilson is getting looks, the kid from Ohio State. Big time. Yeah, but he's a kid. So for Flacco to deal with a bunch of kids on the road, I thought it was somewhat impressive. Okay, let's go to Matthew Stafford, who was great for three quarters and then atrocious in the fourth. Well, I'm not that impressed because they didn't do anything in the second half. He had a great day in terms of completions, but the Falcons have no pass rush. And right now this year, he's got more interceptions than touchdowns. You know, it feels like they're very dependent on Cooper Cup.
Starting point is 00:29:55 They were really good early. Some of that is scripted. it is a far superior. I feel like Green Bay. They lost to the good team, but they beat up on a bad team. Not that impressed. I think the Rams are really out of sorts offensively.
Starting point is 00:30:11 Some of it's just O line issues. Right, let's go to the fastest quarterback in the NFL. Kyler Murray, how impressed for you with that comeback against the raiders? Very impressed. For a guy that doesn't do any homework, he completed passes to nine different receivers because he's got no D'Andre Hopkins. in the second half and overtime, he was 25 of 40. Again, this is a franchise just totally leaning on Kyler-Marie to save the day.
Starting point is 00:30:34 We don't know if his coach is good. The O-line's okay. He doesn't have DeAndre Hopkins. So, I mean, I'm, you can, I don't know how long this style is sustainable, but I think he's a wizard. I think he's just an unbelievable talent. And, you know, you can tell me he doesn't do his homework, nine different receivers caught a pass.
Starting point is 00:30:55 He is spreading the ball around. All right, let's go to a guy you like a lot, but was just terrible in the fourth quarter. Derek Carr, how impressed were you with that loss to the Cardinals? Okay, somewhat impressed. Hunter Renfro fumbled twice. That's not a Derek Carr issue. He completed 65% of his throws. He was 25 of 40, two picks, 99 passer rating.
Starting point is 00:31:16 He was driving for the winning score. You can't blame him because Hunter Renfro, a really good player, had the worst 10-minute stretch of his career. I think Derek played fine. You know, it's like I say with Russell Wilson, they fumble twice at the one-yard line in their opener. You can't blame Russell Wilson for that. I'm not going to blame Derek Carr for 100-renfro's fumbles. Let's go to Carson Wentz, Washington Commanders.
Starting point is 00:31:37 All right. Great in the second half. Four touchdowns, 200 yards. All right. It's funny, the Colts can't move the ball. I thought it was all Carson Wentz's fault. Washington's moving the ball. I was someone impressed.
Starting point is 00:31:48 They're going to move in the ball. You can say what you want about him. But he completed passes to eight receivers, 65 percent completion. percentage, 100 passer rating against the Lions. Again, you keep telling me he's no good. Look at the Colts offense without him. They can't move the ball.
Starting point is 00:32:04 He's big. Now, is he reckless? Yeah, do I like him more than everybody else? Absolutely. But he got blamed for everything in Indianapolis. He had 27 touchdowns and seven picks in Indianapolis. He had a 4-to-one touchdown to ratio. And, yes, he and Matt Stafford have one or two games a year that you're pulling your hair out.
Starting point is 00:32:24 but Washington's moving the ball. I think it's the inconsistency. Like the first half, they just punted every series. But don't tell me he doesn't have talent. Carson's got talent. You're down 22-0-0. You can put up some stats. Let's move on to Jared Goff of the Lions,
Starting point is 00:32:38 leading a crazy good Lions offense. Very impressed. Their guards, center guards are backups. So Goff's not great when he gets pressure inside. He's got that offensive line's missing two and three starters. Honor on St. Brown, he has developed a relationship immediately is one of the top tandums in the league. Their top five in scoring offense.
Starting point is 00:32:58 I think Jared, at home, he's been great. We all crapped on him when McVeigh moved him. But I will say this. He's been a better home quarterback in Detroit than Stafford has played at SoFi. He's been a great home quarterback for them. And he doesn't have McVeigh as a coach. Now, this is a limited. Detroit's got to win by shootout.
Starting point is 00:33:21 Like they're not going to win. This is the reality is they. They have built in a couple of drafts their offense. Now they've got to go. Hutchinson's a nice player. Now they've got to go to defense. But I've been very impressed. They're averaging over 400 yards a game.
Starting point is 00:33:33 I think Jared's been, I think if you were totally honest with yourself, myself, myself included, Jared's been better than we all thought he would be with Dan Campbell. That's fair. I think he's been a very B-B-plus quarterback in Detroit. All right. Let's move on to Trevor Lawrence in Jacksonville. How impressed were you with that dominating performance against him? Super impressed. By the way, he and Christian Kirk already have a relationship. You pointed that out yesterday. He and Christian Kirk, boom, it works. Passer rating was 121 against the. He's always played well against the Colts. But I'm very impressed. They spent $300 million on free agency. The downside of that is it is a bunch of moving parts. So he's got a new coach, a new coordinator, new old line, new parts. And he's a kid. So this is not as easy as it looks. And by the way, do you know how many, he
Starting point is 00:34:23 completed, this was the best in the league, he completed 83% of his passes in the National Football League. I like that. He didn't do that in high school. A lot of newness for Trevor Lawrence that he's dominating. Very impressive. Let's move on to your guy, Aaron Rogers. How impressed were you with his win over the Bears on Sunday Night Football? Not that impressed.
Starting point is 00:34:44 I think the audience knows where you're going. Well, I mean, here's my thing. They have got to figure out a way to get the ball to the rookie receivers. Yeah. Romeo Dubs. You know how many catches he had? Couple screen passes. He won't throw it down field.
Starting point is 00:34:57 Christian Watson, jet sweeps. Dude, you're not winning any big games in the NFC with Sammy Watkins as your guy. Like again, he's beat the Bears. What is he? 12 and 1 against the Bears and the Lions. This week is the test against him. Yes. Again, Minnesota was the test.
Starting point is 00:35:14 What happened? Brady's been the test. The Niners have been the test. The Vikings have been the test. Brady against the test. win a game against an elite team and get these kids involved in the offense. Josh Allen Monday Night Football wrecks the Vikings. He's very impressed.
Starting point is 00:35:32 I think he does everything. I think he will, in his last four games, including the playoffs, he's had four plus total touchdowns. So he's not as, I would say this, Mahomes historically is unique, where you get all the upside with Mahomes and no interceptions. Aaron Rogers is unique. You get a huge upside and virtually no interceptions. Manning, Brady, Farr, I mean, you can go back to most of your great quarterbacks.
Starting point is 00:35:58 They throw picks. So Josh is in that mold. You're going to get some picks with him. He's going to try to squeeze it into a little tiny keyhole. But, I mean, there's nothing I don't like. Eight total touchdowns this year passing or running leads the NFL. There's nothing like him in the league right now, including Mahalms because of his ability to run the football. And run people over.
Starting point is 00:36:18 We can wrap up with Jalen Hertz. Nice win over the Vikings Monday Night Football. His MVP odds are soaring. And very impressed. You know his only turnover this year? He threw a screen pass. It went through a running back's hands and was intercepted. So I'm getting, he can run it.
Starting point is 00:36:34 I get the upside. I get now a star receiver. I don't get any turnovers. I get the RPO. I get all this diversity of offense, all this flexibility in offense, and I get no turnovers. And I'll say it again. I think this is hard.
Starting point is 00:36:47 He's on pace to complete. 69% of his throws. And you said this. It's not like the schedule gets tougher. Here comes Washington and Jacksonville. So I think you're looking at an offense that is a, it's like the first two years of Lamar Jackson. How do you prepare for Lamar Jackson?
Starting point is 00:37:02 You have nobody on your roster that can simulate Lamar Jackson at practice. A lot of guys can simulate Flacco. So I think I'm very impressed with Jalen Hertz. I know everybody says, don't go crazy on a standalone game, but I watch them. Their defense, they get a pass rush, they got an elite corner. Justin Jefferson was irrelevant. 20 million people are watching, Colin.
Starting point is 00:37:23 Kirk Cousins, you know, vomits all over himself every time out. Jalen Hertz just dominant performance. I was super impressed, yeah. Very nice.
