This is an I-Heart podcast.
Guaranteed Human.
Another podcast from some SNL, late-night comedy guy, not quite.
Unhumor me with Robert Smygel and friends.
Me and hilarious guests from Bob Odenkirk to David Letterman
help make you funnier.
This week, my guest, SNL's Mikey Day and head writer, Streeter Seidel,
help an a cappella band with their between songs banter.
Where does your group perform?
We do some retirement homes.
Those people are starving for banter.
Listen to humor me with Robert Smigel
and friends on the IHeart radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts.
What's up, fam? It's Isaiah Thomas. And I'm C.J. Toledano. It's our favorite time of the year on our
podcast point game, the playoffs. We're digging into the biggest surprises of the season. And I'm
looking back on some of my greatest playoff moments. If we didn't talk ever again, I was crying.
You just understood. That's how personal it got. Wow. Then after that game seven,
Mark keep coming to him. He's like, you know I love you, dog. You know, it's all love. This was just
playoffs. This was just basketball.
So listen to Point Game on the Iheart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts.
Will Ferrell's Big Money Players and IHart Podcasts presents soccer moms.
So I'm Leanne.
This is my best friend, Janet.
And we have been joined at the hips since high school.
Absolutely.
A redacted amount of years later, we're still joined at the hip.
Just a little bit bigger hips.
This is a podcast.
We're recording it as we tailgate our youth soccer games in the back of my Honda Odyssey.
With all the snacks and drinks.
Why did you get hard salsa?
instead of beer.
Oh, they hit a bogo.
Well, then you got them.
Listen to soccer moms on the Iheart radio app,
Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts.
Hey, everyone.
It's Ryder Strong and Wilfredel from PodMeets World.
And now the PodMeets Twirled podcast.
We're two men who were completely clueless to reality TV,
and we're gearing up for the season finale of Survivor.
I know we annoyed a lot of our listeners
by our severe lack of survivor knowledge.
That is the point of the show.
I'm just going to remind you.
Again, we are experts.

Therapy is fantastic, but once again, it does not have a monopoly on healing.
That's why I create the resources and that's why I create the community because I really just want you to have more access.
On the podcast, cultivating her space, Dr. Dom and Terry Lomax create a space where black women can show up fully and be heard.
It's tough because we're suppressing our emotions and so many of us are like high achieving individual.

What up? Welcome in this
The Herd, wherever you may be
and however you may be making it as part of your day.
Thanks so much.
I'm Doug Gottlieb in for Colin Cowherd.
And wherever you're listening today,
from Poway to Santa Clarita,
all the way to the inland empire.
I want to talk sports with you.
Welcome in.
So Team USA survives Serbia.
Serbia played great until they didn't.
They shot amazing.
I just, I think it's really interesting that when you hire a coach, and it's really important.
And it's really important.
And I understand, like, I am an inexperienced college coach.
And so I have, yesterday we released our non-conference schedule.
And I'm confident in what I can do.
do and how I can coach my team and what will ultimately look like, but I'm also super respectful
of the fact that the entirety of the process I haven't been through before.
I definitely haven't led before, you know, I've coached games, high level games, know what
I'm doing there.
I've made teams more cohesive units in short period times.
I feel like I can do that.
Player evaluations, within reason, I can do that.
Recruiting, like, honestly, the recruiting landscape is very much like the AAU landscape.
And at my level, we're offering opportunity more so than NIL.
So I understand those parts of it.
But the actual like how it all works, how it all happens, what it looks like after a 20-point loss or what it looks like after a heartbreaking loss and how do you make adjustments and how do you decide to develop different sorts of plays and sets as people lock into what you're doing.
Like all those things you kind of got to learn as you go.
we were even meeting earlier today as we're starting to plan out not just our practice schedule
but the schedule for travel when do you want to take a day off when do you want to leave and to me
a lot of that is you're trying to pre-plan something you're going to learn as you go which is you
you want a fresh and rested team you want them to be prepared but you also need to be both physically
and mentally fresh how do you do that well you got to give them time off but they also have
to be sharp in order to have to be him sharp you have to practice and you have to take mandated
time off so we're planning it when when i coached both the last two times in israel okay it's very
similar again i know level of basketball's not the same but there's a lot of similarities a lot of
similarities between team USA and team USA and macabia which is like the Jewish Olympics
both times in the finals, by the way, we played France.
They were really good.
They had, frankly, older,
probably maybe even better players than we had.
And we played them in pool play,
much like we played Serbia,
and then in the finals,
and they played differently the second time around.
And so we had to play differently the second time around.
But the magic to it, I believe,
is finding a way to get a team at the right level
and knowing what's coming and sticking with it,
because you know that,
There are certain games in Fibah competition.
You're going to show up, you're going to win.
South Sudan was a couple of easy adjustments were made.
Puerto Rico, we're going to show up.
If we take it at all seriously, we're going to win 10 times in 10, 100 times and 100.
We're just better.
We're just better.
But you have to plan for those games that are going to be close.
And I think the game was one because they didn't bail.
on Joel Embed.
And Joel Embed was definitely bailable.
He just was.
He has looked out of sorts.
He's looked out of shape.
He's looked like he didn't fit.
And then last night he was a monster.
And if you went back and looked at when Serbia last lost to Team USA in pool play,
when Yokic was on the floor, his plus minus was zero.
It was an even game.
It was when everybody else was in and he was out.
that's when they lost the game by 26.
So you needed
Embedd's body.
You need Embed's body to also, in style
of play to go at Yokic.
And they
had to expose Yokic's
lack of mobility
against Embed. Mbid had not
a good but a great game.
I think, are they winning
without Steph Curry's threes? No.
But you do have a good
enough group of collective shot makers.
You don't have anybody like Joel Embed on this team.
and I think the plan on sticking with them,
even when it didn't look good,
I think that's what wanted the game.
And the other part to it,
you have to just concede is it's a different game than the NBA game
on like 15 different levels,
different game than the NBA game.
The second you admit it's a different game than the NBA game,
the second you're understanding that looking at it through that prism,
that's why it's so hard to beat Australia,
so hard to beat Serbia,
so hard to beat France.
Difficult to beat any of those teams
because this is a style that they grew up playing
with guys that they grew up playing with
as opposed to,
you know, look, even within the NBA,
there's basically three different styles.
The Warriors play different than most everybody else.
The Lakers were kind of old school,
a lot of holding the ball, a lot of ISO stuff.
and the Celtics and others play like five out.
So you don't play this way.
You don't play in a way in the NBA where dribbling is not,
you can't over-dribble here because there's nowhere to go.
And while you attack switches in the NBA,
you attack switches in FBA throwing into the post.
You can't play post-defense, you can't play.
So my guess is that Jason Tatum isn't as good playing post-defense.
You know, when he gets caught on a switch on Yoke's,
Kitch, that's a bucket, and struggles really to guard guards.
He's fine in guarding wings, but you can't have an inability to guard two different parts
of it.
And then offensively, he's a volume guy, and it's really hard to dial back that volume and
increase your efficiency.
Increase your efficiency.
That would be me being a solo radio host coming in and doing updates for Colin.
Doesn't mean I couldn't do it.
Doesn't play to my strengths.
and I think that Jason Tatum, Steve Kerr's using him smartly.
He knows he's way better off when he has a volume of minutes
when he's playing more starter minutes.
He just doesn't fit what they want to do when they feel like they can do,
playing against Serbia,
and it worked both times.
But just me, whether it's coach me, analyst me, radio host me,
I think not bailing on Embed.
Because it's really easy, a couple games in and be like,
Mb doesn't have it, let's move on.
They didn't.
And look at how they've been rewarded for it.
and by the way, we were waiting for a vintage Steph game, finally got one.
Finally got one.
Here's Mark Stein last hour on Tatum not playing again yesterday.
The reality is, with apologies to Bob Coosy, the world is not thinking about Jason Tatum's
minutes.
Celtics fans are wondering and thinking about Jason Tatum's minutes.
Nobody in the quote world is really focused on that.
And the reality is just the fact that, you know, if this is, you know, Bob Coosie comes out today with all this criticism, it just shows you, it's just another illustration of Steve Kerr, you know, they are never expected to lose.
So it is the most second-guess coaching job you can probably have right now because they did almost lose that game.
And everybody's going to have an opinion, but the coach is going to do whatever he thinks he has to do to work.
win. And look, if you want to, if you want to really register a concern, the concern is
what is this doing for Tatum Psyche in terms of 2028? Is he going to want to come back to this
team? That to me is a valid concern, but Steve Kerr is not going to be coaching the Olympic
team in 2028. So I'm sure he's not really worried about that right now. He's just trying to
figure out how to win so he doesn't come home with a loss that, you know, will be,
on his resume forever.
Yeah, you can't concern yourself
with 2028 when you're not going to be coaching the team.
And Jason Tatum can say, I'm never,
I'm never playing from team SSA basketball.
And I'm sure he's only going to want to play in four years
if he's promised, hey, man, you're going to start,
you can play 25 minutes a game.
But, I mean, there's likely to be a massive overhaul
of this roster, right?
Massive, massive overhaul.
And he's still a Duky,
and Dukies will still get preferential treatment.
He'll still be on the team.
you know
it's really amazing what we've done
like they're winning
they played incredible basketball
to come back and win that game
and yet people are still critical
I don't I don't understand it
all right we'll turn to football
coming up next here in the herd
what do we make of the Jets
Rogers looks really good
but there's kind of some weirdness
between
Aaron Rogers
and the coaching staff
have. Then, of course, we have the Brandon Ayuk story where he doesn't want to go to the Pittsburgh.
He doesn't want to go to the New England Patriots. And oh, yeah, by the way, we're going to see Pittsburgh tonight.
Any legitimacy to some sort of quarterback competition between Justin Fields and Russell Wilson?
We'll ask the man genius. Eric Mangini. He joins us next in The Herd.
Be sure to catch live editions of the herd weekdays in noon Eastern 9 a.m. Pacific on Fox Sports Radio,
FS1 and the IHeart Radio app.
Imagine an Olympics where doping is not only legal but encouraged.
It's the enhanced games.
Some call it grotesque.
Others say it's unleashing human potential.
Either way, the podcast's Superhuman documented it all,
embedded in the games and with the athletes for a full year.
Within probably 10 days, I'd put on 10 pounds.
I was having trouble stopping the muscle growth.
Listen to Superhuman on the I-Hard Radio app,

What's up, fam, it's Isaiah Thomas.
And I'm CJ Toledano, and our podcast Point Game is about defining the odds.
Like LeBron heading into the playoffs without Luca and Austin Reed.
And finding ways to win no matter what.
He's the smartest player to ever play the game.
His IQ is at a level that we've never seen before.
And he knows without Luca and Austin Reeves, I got to manipulate the game.
We get a player's perspective on the challenges of the playoffs.
I think Joker's going to be exhausted this series
because when they don't have Rudy in the lineup,
He has to really guard guys like Nas Reid.
He has to guard Julius Randall.
And then he has to give us everything he gives us on the night-to-night basis on offense.
And when IT's friends stop by, like Quentin Richardson, we dive into some playoff history too.
Steve Nass would get that thing.
That man, hell get the flying.
He run up the court licking his fingers while he got the ball.
Like, you go through a training camp with that Isaiah, you figure it out real quick.
Get your ass up and down the court, and you're going to get the ball.
So listen to Point Game on the audience.
Heart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts.
Hey, everyone. It's Ryder Strong and Will Ferdell from PodMeets World.

That is the point of the show.
I'm just going to remind you.
watched some survivor.
I obviously haven't watched enough.
Did people not like it?
Like what was...
Yeah.
Just because we...
Yeah.
We'll be recapping the big conclusion

If you're watching the latest season of the Real Housewives of Atlanta, you already know there's a lot to break down.
Gorsha accusing Kelly of sleeping with a merry man.
They holding Kay Michelle back from fighting Drew.
Pinky has financial issues.
I like the bougie style of Housewives show.
I think it looks like it's going to be interesting.
On the podcast, Reality with the King, I, Carlos King, recap the biggest moments from your favorite reality shows, including the Real House Wise franchise.
The drama, the Alliance,
M&T, everybody's talking about.
As an executive producer in reality television,
I'm not just watching it.
I understand the game.
As somebody who creates shows,
I'll even say this.

It's Doug Gottlieb show, Fox Sports Radio.
Sorry, it's the herd on Fox Sports Radio.
I'm Doug Gottlieb filling in for Colin.
My bad.
The third time or the fourth time, doesn't matter.
Third time?
Hmm.
Third time is, well, not really a charm.
Okay, let's turn our attention to the NFL.
Like, here's what's really cool now, right?
So now we're in the window of, no, it's not the real thing,
but it's as close to the real thing as well.
we'll get to until college football kicks off.
Houston taking on Pittsburgh tonight.
Part of, what do we got, three preseason games, right?
Philly, Baltimore, we'll get to that.
Atlanta, Miami, we'll get to that.
But Houston, the surprise team in the NFL last year, right?
I don't think anybody thought rookie quarterback rookie coach would be that good that soon.
Take it on Pittsburgh, where you got Mike Tomlin, once again last year, Rabbit out of his
you know what, no offense.
Their offense was, in fact, defensive.
and yet they still found away.
Defense is stellar,
rebuilt the offensive line,
have talent at wide receivers,
brought in two quarterbacks.
One used to be good,
not seen as good now.
One was the number one overall pick,
was what, the number two overall pick?
Was that Justin Fields was what?
It's a top first round pick.
But seen as a guy who
could be a dude and
Chicago was like, yeah, we're good,
we're going with Caleb Williams.
Let's welcome in Eric Mangini.
He joins us now in the herd.
Of course, Eric, for a long time,
assisting with the Patriots,
assistant with the Niners,
head coach of the Jets,
head coach of the Browns.
Let me start with Pittsburgh.
I'm told there's some sort of quarterback competition.
I don't buy it.
Not that I think that Russell Wilson still has much left in the tank,
but he's shown himself to be a very good quarterback for a long time,
whereas Justin Fields really hasn't.
Do you believe there's a quarterback competition in Pittsburgh?
Well, the first thing I'll say about Pittsburgh is I love the fact that they have both those guys there.
And the fact that they got both those guys for $5 million, which is the same amount of money that Joe Flacko is making this season, it's a pretty great situation in an area where, you know, obviously they haven't found necessarily the answer.
But this is a good short-term solution.
Hopefully one of these guys becomes the answer.
I would say my personal feeling on this, and this is different than most people,
I honestly feel they should take the approach of playing both players,
and they should have packages for both players.
And what that does is it creates such a significant amount of pressure on your opponent
because you have to spend time preparing for the things that each of those players does really well.
and I get that's that's unconventional
but each guy is looking for something
moving forward
each guy brings a distinct skill set
each guy should play in their own right
based off of where that that team is
and I think that would be the most
effective and interesting way to do it
where it's easy for Pittsburgh and hard for their opponents
I can't imagine that they will take that step
so understanding that
I would say yeah
there's probably competition in the sense
that when you watch
Justin Fields of Practice he's going to make
a bunch of plays that are really
exciting he runs extremely
well can make guys miss
throws the ball down the field
and there's a plays that pop
and then
you have Russell Wilson who
has a history of success
is much more consistent
he hasn't been where he was
but there's a higher level of certainty with what you can get
and your banking that you're going to get the upside of Russell Wilson
and get somewhere relatively close to where he was historically.
Stug Gottlie in for column.
This is The Hurd on Fox Sports Radio app.
Okay, let's get to Houston.
It's year two.
But, you know, everybody makes it just,
Are there adjustments that are going to catch up to the Houston Texans, specifically on the offensive side?
The biggest question mark for Houston, and I talked about this a lot with Detroit going into last season,
is success is something that you have to learn how to deal with just like adversity is.
And here's a team that had more success than anybody expected,
especially in light of, as you talked about, the rookie head coach, the rookie quarterback.
So they surprise everybody, and now they're hit with this barrage of expectations and also a different level of respect.
So how does the team deal with that success and how well do they understand that you don't get to start where you finish?
You've got to do all the things that you did really well last year, but you've got them doing better because everybody is playing you differently.
Everybody has prepared for you differently than they did the,
year before. And it's not only the intensity of the way they prepare for you and the intensity of
the way that they play you, but also the amount of information they have in terms of what your
tendencies are from a scheme perspective and from an individual perspective, which nobody had
any of that information going in the last season.
It's completely fair. What do you think of Tua's deal with Miami?
I'm happy for Tua.
Tua's season really was the anti-Jordan love season,
where Tua was really good early and faded down the stretch.
And when you look at his wins, they were, I think, 10-1 against non-playoff teams,
and one in six against playoff teams.
I think those numbers are accurate.
But what concern me more is his last three games,
his quarterback rating was in the 70s or 60s,
which is extremely disappointing,
and much lower than it would.
It had been throughout the course of the season.
They had that slide where they went into,
they went in the final five games with a three-game lead
to win the division and end up losing division.
So it was that lack of production or underperformance
at the end of the season where Jordan Love skyrocketed the other way,
which made me think maybe they would hold off on the contract.
But you have that in addition to the fact of his injury history,
and his injury history is unique because it's concussions,
and, you know, those are, you can get hit, you know, from your blind side and get a concussion.
It's not, it's so unpredictable, but his next concussion could, you know,
unfortunately be something that lasts a lot longer from an injury perspective than something else.
Totally fair.
Eric Mangini is our guest here.
I'm Doug Gottliebilling in for Colin.
This is the Hurd, Fox Sports Radio, IHeart Radio app.
What ultimately happens with Brandon Ayuk
after it's been reported he turned down the money he wanted from the Patriots?
That's a great question.
He wants the money that other receivers have gotten,
and he has a pretty strong argument to make,
in terms of getting that money.
and I get that,
but at the point where that money may not be available in San Francisco,
it doesn't look like what he wants is currently available in San Francisco,
but now they give them the opportunity to go out and negotiate a deal somewhere else,
now it starts becoming more challenging because you don't want to stay here at what we're offering you,
and you don't want to go to a place that we can make a deal with
where they're offering you the money that you want.
he's going to probably have to give on one of those two issues.
Otherwise, this is just going to remain an impasse, and nobody wins.
And even though he signs a new contract, let's say, however many weeks down into the season,
or who knows how long it's supposed to go through, you're still losing money away that they're going to back.
And hopefully, this gets resolved soon for him, because it gives clarity to the 49ers.
it gives clarity to him and it also gives his new team
an opportunity to actually get some value from the big contract
they're going to pay him.
Who's the team we should be talking about that we're not?
In what sense in terms of a team?
That's good.
That's good.
I mean, look, we use a lot of oxygen on the Cowboys.
They're going to be good, you know.
We've used some oxygen on the Eagles who were just okay last year
after a hot start, but obviously they want to soup bowl.
They've been to a Super Bowl.
They've been super competitive.
There's some talk on Kansas City, not a ton, but it does feel like, I mean, I could go through 15 teams that no one brings up in national sports radio.
From the Seahawks to the Rams, to the Chargers, to the Raiders, to the Browns, to the Vikings, to the, like, nobody talks about.
But we're missing somebody.
The Lions nearly went to a Super Bowl last year.
I didn't love some of their play-calling decision-making at the end of the San Francisco game, but they did.
nobody talked about the lions on that level to start the year.
If you had to guess before we ever get this thing kicked off,
who's somebody we should be talking about,
and we probably will be come December.
And we're grouping the lines and the teams that we don't really talk about?
Yes.
Yeah.
Look, the lions for me,
I wasn't skeptical as anybody going into last season.
I was even skeptical after the opening game of the season,
where they were,
they were tagged to kick off the season against Kansas City,
which really hadn't been done.
You know,
the only few times had been done,
it had been the Dallas Cowboys,
and I thought,
as good as they finished the previous season
and all the hype that was going into them,
it was a reach to put them in that category.
So they beat Kansas City and the opener,
and they dealt with success,
probably as good as you can deal with success.
and that to me is a huge checkmark on the trajectory of the club overall.
Then you know how demanding the head coach is,
and it seems like he's both physically demanding,
and he's also demanding from a mental perspective in terms of how he expects
those guys to perform in the classroom, the level of commitment,
all the intangible aspects of football.
But as guys talk about him,
there's very, very rarely do you even hear a hint of complaining.
Guys have completely bought into that level of discipline that, that, that he's instilled,
and that he consistently requires the players.
That's a huge, huge check mark.
Now they were able to retain both coordinators, there's continuity,
there's the expectations, to me, is another great situation for them.
The fact that we're not talking about them, that's where you want to be going.
into the season. You don't want to be
dealing with a ton of expectations.
That can be debilitating
especially to younger guys.
But to be going
under the radar after all they achieved
last year,
that's
we're definitely going to be
talking about them.
And I just check it up
really, really late into the season.
Okay. What about
Jordan Love? I mean, Jordan Love had
slow start. There were times
where it was like, y-ish. And then, obviously,
he went through a stretch there where he played great football.
Now he's got a new contract, talented but really young roster.
What does Jordan Love second time around as a starting quarterback look like?
Yeah, I didn't love that Jordan Love renegotiated his contract prior to last season.
To me, it felt like he didn't really have confidence in what he was going to do as a starter.
And at some degree, it felt like Green Bay didn't really have confidence in what he was going to do as a starter.
now fast forward it worked out well for him because he was able to get the deal that he got
but it's it's hard after you get a new contract to view things the same way and this is this is
always difficult Doug where you pay a guy either in for agency or you pay one of your own guys
and they want to go out and justify the money and and it's great that they want to prove you
right. But oftentimes when
guys are trying to prove you right,
they're pushing, they're
pressing, they're doing stuff that's
inconsistent with what got them in the contract
in the first place. And to me,
that's a, it's
something they have to get over. And I
really thought that Philadelphia
had figured it out last year
because it looked like Jalen Hertz
was on track for another great season
and the team overall was on track.
They really fought two things.
Quarterback getting a big contract and the
Super Bowl Hangover, and we saw how that worked out.
So that's my biggest concern with Jordan Love is how does he view the money?
And is he pressing or is he have perspective and really take a look at the things that he did
better in the second half of the season and try to incrementally build on that,
not trying to take this giant leap and suddenly be out and be Aaron Rogers and have back-to-back
MVP seasons.
that to me will be
that will be the thing
that sets him back the most.
That's the one and only Eric Mangini.
Some people call him the Mangenius.
Of course, long time NFL head
and assistant coach.
Eric, you're the best.
Thanks a much for joining us in the herd.
Awesome.
Did you guys cut him off?
He was going to say, I'm awesome,
and then you cut him off, Dewey, that's what you did.
Do we? How are you going to do that?
You know what?
Let's get to Ryan Music with the news.
No, no, no, no.
Turn on the news.
This is the Hur.
line news. Doug, I want to make one thing very, very clear before we move on to the news.
Yeah, yeah.
I personally would never do that to the man genius. That is all Greg Toohey.
Yeah. So, always grateful to have Mangini on the show. We'll pick up where you guys left off.
Let's touch on some NFL here. 49ers have played in two Super Bowls in the last five years for the last five NFC
championship games with veteran players on the rosters like Christian McCaffrey, George Kittle,
Trent Williams, even Devo Samuel.
There are questions about how much longer this group can maintain their status as perennial contenders.
Well, Kittle spoke with the athletic and he had this to say.
Talking about a window closing and all that type of stuff,
all I know is that currently, right now, we have a really good roster.
And I'm just going to try to attack it every single day with the really good roster that I have.
Not worried about the future, George Kittle simply focused on the now.
Yeah, I mean, we could read into all that stuff.
I don't, the Niners need to win this year, right?
They've been so close and haven't gotten it done.
The Niners need to win this year because there's too many good players there to not get over the threshold.
And hell, they nearly lost to the, not just the Lions, but nearly lost to the Packers the week before that.
Yeah, very competitive.
So, I mean, that was a game with the Packers.
Packers can move the ball at all, they probably win that thing.
But in the second half.
But I do think that a lot of this frustration comes from ultimately not winning it.
I think they win it, and then a lot of those guys go elsewhere and they got to rebuild it anywhere.
But this feels like the year they've got to win it.
Yeah.
And I will say, out of all of those players, as much as they are veterans, and Trent Williams is really the only one where you're really looking at like, oh, wow.
Yeah, I mean, he's coming up on the end of his career.
now he's still great and he could probably play until maybe almost 40 like a
Andrew Whitworth but the others look like they still have plenty left to go in their career
in preseason action in the NFL Patriots quarterback competition could be getting a little
interesting number three overall pick Drake may played just one series didn't do much but
Joe Milton Doug the Milton mania some have said on social media played a good amount of
the second half showed off some dynamic moves as a runner as well as going four for six,
57 yards with a touchdown.
And if you remember, this now comes after last week,
some reports about Milton playing really well in practice and looking better than May.
Something Colin has sort of touched on.
He had his hesitations about May coming out of North Carolina.
Now we know Brissette's going to be the starter to start the season,
but so far, maybe some Drake-May Joe Milton competition happening for New England.
I mean, listen, and Joe Milton has kind of been a tease
throughout his career. Remember he first won the job with Michigan.
Then he left. That was during the COVID year, I think, right?
The COVID year kind of skewed everything.
Then he was the one to replace Henan Hooker, and Henan Hooker was having a great year.
And the problem with Joe Milton has never been armed talent.
He's got an incredible arm. Incredible.
But he's 24. He can be inaccurate.
And it doesn't matter how far you throw the ball.
I just, I feel like he's a camp creation.
I could be wrong.
Sure.
But I think he's a camp creation.
You can't tell me that Michigan and Tennessee both decide like, eh, if he was really, is it possible that they missed?
Yes.
Is it possible he's better for the program?
Sure.
But I don't think that's the case.
He has, he throws an unbelievable deep ball.
Unreal.
We'll wrap up with this, Doug.
Back to the Olympics, U.S. track star Noah Lyles wanted to become the first American male athlete since Carl Lewis to win gold in both the 100 and 200 meters sprints, but did end up with bronze in the 200 while also battling COVID.
Now, following the 200 meter race, gold medalist Latsili Tobago of Botswana had this interesting comment to say about being the face of the sport.
For me, I can't be the face of athletics because I'm not an arrogant or a loud person like Noah.
So I believe Noah is the face of athletics.
So sort of a not so subtle shot about being loud and arrogant for Noah Liles.
I think the thing that's interesting here is they talk about how Usain Bolt was the face of the sport.
And when you, whether it's in, this is no disrespect to anyone who does track or any of these sort of Olympic sports.
but like, Usain Bolt became the quote unquote face of track
because he transcended into mainstream popular culture
by how incredibly dominant he was.
Like, I don't think just because you win a gold medal
doesn't automatically mean your some household name, right?
Like, we know Michael Phelps as the face of swimming
because he's like the greatest Olympian of all time,
not just because he won one or two gold medals
as the best swimmer in the world at an Olympic Games.
Correct.
correct um yeah i mean but there is something too the you know like noel is lyle's and it's just a lot of drama
and it's it's interesting there's a certain amount of wnba to them where people don't pay attention
to track and field runners for three and a half years then all of a sudden we pay attention and they're
you know the dynamic ones seem to be look at me people um this is chikari richardson right where
she's staring down the other runner at the end of the four by one
100. But she didn't actually win the 100 meter dash. So like, again, seems like misplaced arrogance
a little bit. The same thing with Noah Liles. Like, I get it. You're fast, but this feels like
I need attention because I don't get it all year long. And that's right. Music with News.
Well, that's the news. And thanks for stopping by. The Hurd-Ly News.
Ah, it's finally become that time. We get to do the best for last. Wait to hear the best for last.
the best debate that you'll hear on Fox Sports Radio is last.
It's next in The Hurt.

What's up, fam? It's Isaiah Thomas.
And I'm C.J. Toledano, and our podcast, Point Game is about defying the odds.
Like LeBron heading into the playoffs without Luca and Austin Reed.
And finding ways to win no matter what.
He's the smartest player to ever play the game.
His IQ is at a level that we've never seen before.
And he knows.
Without Luca and Austin Reeves,
I got to manipulate the game.
We get a player's perspective
on the challenges of the playoffs.
I think Joker's going to be exhausted this series
because when they don't have Rudy in the lineup,
he has to really guard guys like Nas Reid.
He has to guard Julius Randall.
And then he has to give us everything
he gives us on the night-to-night basis on offense.
And when IT's friends stop by,
like Quentin Richardson, we dive into some playoff history too.
Steve Nass would get that thing.
That man, hell get the flanks.
He running up the court, licking his fingers
why he got the ball, like,
after you go through a training camp with that,
Isaiah, you figure it out real quick.
Oh, yeah.
Get your ass up and down the court,
and you're going to get the ball.
So listen to Point Game on the IHeart Radio app,

Yeah.
Just because we?

Doug Gallevin for calling.
This is to heard Fox Sports Radio, IHeart Radio app.
Welcome in.
Obviously live in Central Time Zone now.
I wake up every day. I got Dan Patrick into Colin into my show. And I think most people know,
not just of Jason, actually obviously on the show, but also his Straightfire podcast.
I happened to crank up because I was up really early this morning, the Straight Fire podcast.
And I heard Jason McIntyre once again railing on Steve Kerr for not playing Jason Tatum.
well, because he's such a regular part, he's, you know, part of the show.
I thought, you know, maybe he's on vacation, maybe he's got his phone off.
He didn't.
He wants to join us, little debate, a little best for last.
It's almost the end of the show, but that doesn't mean we're phoning it in.
Nope, we grind to the very last segment.
It's time for best for last.
All right, let's welcome in.
He's Jason McIntyre, co-host of the herd, but also the host of the Straightfire podcast.
and Jason, I'll give you the floor.
What pre-telted Steve Kerr do wrong yesterday in their comeback from a 17-point deficit and win?
Well, let me start by congratulating you on the new coaching gig.
I mean, I've texted you about it, but I haven't actually spoken to you, dude.
Congrats. That's amazing.
Thank you. Appreciate it.
So now, let me blast Steve Kerr real quick.
So, first of all, Steve Kerr did not bring them back from down 17.
Okay, Steph Curry, LeBron, and Embedde did.
Steve Kerr, actually, you could argue, help dig them that hole by his clunky rotations.
And you could see this coming.
Doug, you know hoops as well as anybody.
Embedd is going to get attacked and the drop coverage relentlessly.
Teams are going to attack Steph Curry and call for the switch and go after.
There was an option multiple times to get Jason Tatum in there and go big.
Ultimately, Kerr finally capitulated and went with Kevin.
Evan Durant, LeBron, NMB, a bigger lineup.
He had been playing a lot of three-guard looks.
And there were multiple options.
Like, dude, put Tatum in.
Anthony Edwards is a turnover machine.
He's struggling.
Some of these younger, I mean, Bam out of Bios, taking corner threes.
Bro, this ain't Puerto Rico, okay?
This is like down 15 against Serbia,
with one of the best players in the world, and Nicole Yolkich.
I just thought Steve Kerr had a brutal performance.
I didn't get on his case as much earlier in the,
in the Olympics for not playing Tatum.
I got it.
But there were multiple options for him to play Tatum at the two, the three, hell, the four.
They had a lot of options.
Doug, I was just disappointed.
Okay, okay.
Let me, let me help you.
Let me help you.
Does Jason Tatum rebound as well as anybody?
Led to Celticson rebounds in the playoff.
Does Jason Tatum rebound?
Yeah.
Does Jason Tatum guard the post?
Does Jason Tatum guard guards?
Does Jason Tatum do anything other than score?
And has Jason Tatum been playing efficiently?
Okay, again, you're telling you're saying,
you should, you're, you were saying he should first take out Joel and Bede and
Steph Curry because he knew what was coming.
If not for Joel Embed and Steph Curry, you have no chance yesterday.
None.
No, no, no.
And you have to have LeBron in there, okay, because LeBron.
No doubt.
Okay, but why?
Okay, one, he's a capable shooter, two, he's played without an ego, not trying to go one-on-one,
three, most importantly, he's physical and he's rebounding,
and it's a different sport than the NBA.
It's different.
And you can't just go and start getting guys off of the bench
and just start wheeling them.
Oh, obviously, I am.
Okay, so it's a 40-minute game.
You're like, don't play Anthony Edwards.
He barely played.
No, no, no.
Don't play Bam out of bio.
He barely played.
When they were playing, they struggled,
and that was the opportunity to get to him.
And listen, Bogdanovich is out here looking like an all-
NBA player. Looking like a Hall of
Famer. Nobody could defend him. They were getting
the switches. Drew Holiday
matched up with Yokic. It was an annihilation.
There were opportunities to get
Tatum in to defend. Listen, man,
I'll take Tatum against Bogdanovich any day
a week, as would you. But nobody
could, none of the guards... I would not
take him in an international game ahead of Bogdanovich.
That's the part that you don't understand.
I'm not in any way trying to sound
condescending, but it's going to sound condescending.
you've never actually even seen an international game played live, let alone played or coached in one.
It's a completely different sport.
And while Bogdan Bogdanovich in the NBA, it's a complete mismatch him versus Jason Tatum.
This ain't the NBA, dude.
It's not.
100% agree.
So what you're saying is from your chair in, and I don't know where you are in California,
I know you travel a ton, and you have a great time.
Your kids, from your chair, you know more about what.
what a team needs and what a team fits and what they need,
then Steve Kerr, who he's not just evaluating based on this game.
You do?
Steve Kerr has what, five rings as a coach and like another five as a player.
I don't know.
I mean, you know me.
I coach my kids in sports.
We got chips.
I got the men's league team in L.A.
We got titles.
Now, listen, it doesn't mean he's, it doesn't mean he's impervious to criticism.
Okay, it doesn't.
Okay?
It doesn't.
But I think what Anthony Edwards struggle with is the same thing that Jason Tatum struggles with,
which is like, again, you're used to being the guy.
You're used to being able to have a volume of shots.
And if you miss your first five, it doesn't matter.
You make your next five.
You don't have that international competition.
You don't.
You're playing in a completely different style, the officiating is different, the plays different, more than anything.
You're not the focal point.
And he...
Yeah, no, the defenses are different.
The rules are different.
The basketball's different.
We know all that, Doug.
What we don't know is why Tatum wasn't playing.
And frankly, if I'm Jason Tatum and, you know, the Olympics are like, hey, sorry we didn't play you a lot.
You're our centerpiece for 2028.
I would tell him, hey, man, F off.
No, thanks.
I don't need this again.
Cool.
They don't play.
We'll find 12 guys who do want to play.
You do want to play for our country.
They will.
And you know what?
Here's a scary thing, Doug.
Steve Kerr needed to rely on the KG veterans to bring him back and save his hide.
Okay?
it is very interesting going to 28
because all those guys are going to be gone.
I don't think AD's back.
I can't imagine Embed he's going to be back.
Now LeBron, Durant Curry, like, whoa, where are we going to turn?
You've got to get Tatum in there to usher in the next era.
You're telling me you couldn't find 10 minutes for him, Doug?
That's an abomination.
No, because if you have 10 minutes, then whose minutes are you shrinking?
Then you're going to play them 10 minutes?
You think you're really going to get some out again?
So tell me where they...
Yes, Derek White's a point guard.
who can guard five positions.
Okay, Jason Tatum is a...
Well, actually, he couldn't guard any positions.
Again, Serbia, he was not, he could not.
Now, I know he Derek White had a really run in the Olympics,
but the Serbia game was extremely physical, though.
Yes.
And Jason Tatum is more built for that with his length than a Derek White, than a drool.
Again, you're just, you're taking it, you're taking it like it's fantasy basketball.
You're like, ooh, he's a little bit taller.
Okay, so he's got to be his length.
He's like an inch taller than Derek White.
The big thing is this, okay?
Derek White doesn't need the ball to be effective.
He doesn't.
Okay.
Jason Tatum needs the ball.
Hold on.
Let me finish.
Jason Tatum needs the basketball to be effective.
Okay.
And again, you're viewing the sport from the prism of, I'm an NBA fan.
I've watched the NBA.
I know he's better than Bogdog and Bogdanovich.
He is in the NBA.
Totally different sport.
Totally different game.
I don't disagree.
And my guess is, my guess is that he's gotten his,
butt kicked and really struggle with the mentality of playing as one of the guys.
It might not be for him, and that's okay, right?
I mean, the perfect example is Damien Lillard last time came into the Olympics and he was
considered one of the elite guards.
He was terrible with the Olympic team.
Why?
It's a different sport and it's not based around one guy.
You've got to be a catch-and-shoot shooter.
You've got to be able to guard with great physicality, play without the basketball.
that none of those things are what Jason Tatum does.
And that doesn't mean he's not great a player in the NBA.
Now that's just embarrassing.
Come on, Doug.
You know Tatum can play off the ball.
He's fine not being going to tell.
Jalen Brown was the MVP of the finals taken most of the time.
Why was that?
What was that?
Tatum let him in points rebounds and assists.
No, no.
Did Tatum have a good finals?
Did Tatum have a good finals?
He did.
Well, I don't know.
Let me start here.
He led the Celtics in points rebounds and assists.
Is that a good final?
No.
He didn't have a good finals.
Nobody would say...
In the entire postseason in points, rebounds, and assists.
Right.
I didn't, I didn't ask about, I didn't ask about, I didn't ask about the playoffs.
Okay?
I asked about the finals.
Well, in the finals, he led them an assist and rebounds and points.
So is that good?
I don't know.
Was he the MVP?
I mean, come on, man.
Was he the MVP?
I think he's looking down on a little too much.
No, no, I'm just being honest.
Like, I think he's a really, really talented score.
I think he never
He's like Kobe in that he never takes an easy shot
Every shot is a difficult shot
Okay
His stats in the finals
He wasn't good
Okay
He wasn't good
There's just you can't convince me otherwise
Right
I mean he had he had two games
Which one he's 11 of 26
One he's 11 of 24
Right
This is a guy that's used
This okay and that's what he does
He's a score
That's his job
His job is to score
But he also
And facilitated
he led the team and assist
not only in the finals but in the entire playoffs
he's a great pastor
he's excellent stop
stop but he's a great past
stop that he's a great passer stop
that he's a great passer stop
Jason it's a different
sport
okay in international basketball
from the NBA that's Jason
McIntyre you can hear him daily
that's our best for last I'm Doug Gottlie
