Starting point is 00:00:00 This is an I-Heart podcast. Guaranteed Human. Another podcast from some SNL, late-night comedy guy, not quite. Unhumor me with Robert Smygel and friends. Me and hilarious guests from Bob Odenkirk to David Letterman help make you funnier. This week, my guest, SNL's Mikey Day and head writer, Streeter Seidel, help an a cappella band with their between songs banter.
Starting point is 00:00:23 Where does your group perform? We do some retirement homes. Those people are starving for banter. Listen to humor me with Robert Smigel and friends on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Imagine an Olympics where doping is not only legal, but encouraged. It's the enhanced games. Some call it grotesque. Others say it's unleashing human potential. Either way, the podcast's superhuman documented it all, embedded in the games and with the athletes for a full year.
Starting point is 00:00:52 Within probably 10 days, I'd put on 10 pounds. I was having trouble stopping the muscle growth. Listen to Superhuman on the IHard Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Hey, what's good, y'all? You're listening to Learn the Hard Way with your favorite therapist and host, Kear Games. This space is about black men's experiences, having honest conversations that it's really not safe to have anywhere, but you're having them with a licensed professional who knows what he's doing. How many men carry a suit or armor it? It signals to the world that you're not to be played with. And just because you have the capability that does not mean that you need to.
Starting point is 00:01:29 Listen and learn the hard way on the AHA radio app, Apple Podcast, or wherever you get your podcast. Hey, this is Robert from the Stuff to Blow Your Mind podcast. Joe and I are both lifelong Star Wars fan, so we're celebrating May the 4th with a brand new week of fun, thought-provoking Star Wars-related episodes. Join us as we tackle science and culture topics from a galaxy far, far away, such as the biology of tauntons and wampas on the ice planet, or the practicality and corporate business sense of the Sith rule of two. Listen to stuff to blow your mind on the Iheart radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts.
Starting point is 00:02:06 On the look back at it podcast. 1979, that was a big moment for me. 84 is big to me. I'm Sam J. And I'm Alex English. Each episode, we pick a here, unpack what went down, and try to make sense of how we survived it. With our friends, fellow comedians, and favorite authors. Like Mark Lamont Hill on the 80s.
Starting point is 00:02:23 84 was a wild year. I don't think there's a more important year for black people. Listen to look back at it on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Thanks for listening to The Heard Podcast. Be sure to catch us live every weekday on Fox Sports Radio in noon to 3 Eastern 9 a.m. to noon Pacific. Find your local station for The Herd at Fox SportsRadio.com or stream us live every day on the IHeartRadio app by searching Fox SportsRourts. or FSR. You're listening to Fox Sports Radio. He was a Super Bowl champ with the 2015 Denver Broncos, appearances in the Super Bowl with the Steelers and the 49ers as well.
Starting point is 00:03:07 He retired a few years back. Now his son's playing some football. He's still in Denver. One of my favorite guys, Emmanuel Sanders, a two-time Pro Bowl. Y receiver is joining us in the herd. Seven playoffs in 12 years. So you're living the good life, the retired life. And I want to ask you, you're the first player I've talked to since I watched Tua last night.
Starting point is 00:03:25 and I had said earlier, Emmanuel, that players, overwhelmingly the football players I've met, when they get paid, when they get the bag, they want to prove they're worth it. They don't want to bail and retire, and I can see Tua talking himself into it. He doesn't want to let down his teammates. He didn't want to let down the fans. He didn't want to let down his coaches. And I wonder if, you know, I don't know if it's guilt that he'll just talk himself into coming back, and it may not be best for him.
Starting point is 00:03:51 You watch it. What would you do as a player? Yeah, for me, I mean, that's hard because, you know, when they say that guys kind of get the bag and they kind of give up, I mean, I just feel like that's from a laziness standpoint. But when you're dealing with Tua, I mean, we're talking about longevity of life. We're talking about, you know, him being there for his family in years to come. I mean, we're talking about a totally different situation. And, you know, I've listened to people on ESPN and Fox and all these different networks, you know, the size. this topic and for me like it's a hard topic to discuss because it's hard for me to tell him
Starting point is 00:04:31 exactly what to do i just know if it was me it's just hard for that to be your last played of football right right like and i think that's the hardest part for tool is like i don't want to go out that way and that be my last play of football and i think that's from me personally now if tool was my son like you said I have a son, I'm telling my son, look, look, man, like you've had a great career. I mean, you did everything that you could possibly do. But at some point, how much longer could you take this abuse to your brain to the point of longevity of life that is going to hinder you and affect you down the road? And it's big decisions to be made.
Starting point is 00:05:15 I mean, it's a hard decision. I hate to see it, but I just hope that he does the right thing for himself and don't think about anybody else besides his family and himself. You know, it's so interesting you mentioned that. I didn't even think about that. But the last play being a concussion. That's crazy. That's really, again, you're a player.
Starting point is 00:05:36 I would have never even thought about that. And I think it does, you know, I've said this about football is really interesting. NBA is a player's league. You know, baseball guys get 10-year contracts. Football's different, Emmanuel. It is a family. Like you do, I mean, I've talked to countless players. once you get to week three, everybody's hurt.
Starting point is 00:05:56 The whole league's hurt. Nobody feels good by week four. So it's, yeah, that's a really good point. And here's the thing, too, is years ago, 10, 15 years ago, I did feel sometimes that team doctors sort of pressured you to play hurt. Like, I think that's over now. Like your last couple years in the league, what was your relationship with team doctors like if you were banged up, what was it like?
Starting point is 00:06:25 Yeah, I think certain guys in different positions. For me, it was not so much of them forcing me the place. I feel like in my early years, it was more of if I don't play, the next guy is ready to take my job. Wow. Right? And so I'm in there and I'm saying, no, I'm going to go out and play because I don't want to be in that situation where I'm a Wally Pittman.
Starting point is 00:06:51 You know what I mean? Right. and the next thing I'm done. So I used to always go out and play because I wanted it so bad that I didn't want to lose my job. And so, I mean, even with a situation, I mean, these doctors got to be, they have to put everything in front of them, especially dealing with the brain. Like I understand a foot injury, a finger, this and that, but when you're dealing with
Starting point is 00:07:11 the brain, like, that's something that you just don't want to play with. Yeah. So you played with Garoppolo, Peyton Manning, Josh Allen, Big Ben. Sometimes they were young. sometimes they were old. I watched the young quarterbacks last week, and I thought Bo Nix was the best of the group, but they looked a little overwhelmed.
Starting point is 00:07:29 Go back to your career when you were playing with either Josh or Peyton or Gropolo, and they were young. They weren't that, you know, they were in the developmental stage. Give me an example of the difference between playing with a veteran quarterback and a kid quarterback in your career.
Starting point is 00:07:46 What's the difference? I mean, I mean, they're big eye. It's like a deer in the headlight. They're like this. Yeah. And, you know, as a veteran why I receive you, you're like, look, pal, just keep throwing it to me.
Starting point is 00:08:02 I'll take the pressure on. Right. But no, man, when I see Bo Nix, even when I see Caleb Williams, you know, like these guys got a lot of expectations coming in, especially, you know, Caleb Williams and the performance he had, even both, the performances they had in the preseason. it was a lot of expectations with these guys. But, I mean, their rookies, man, I remember my first rookie year. Like, I mean, college is a whole other animal, right?
Starting point is 00:08:29 It's fast, but National Football League, it's turned up a notch. And even playoffs, it's turned up even more of a notch. So you've got to get used to that speed. You've got to get used to just a lifestyle of the National Football League. It's a lot that's going on with these guys. I think that they're doing a tremendous job, you know what I mean? And handle it. And I think week by week, they're going to get better and better.
Starting point is 00:08:51 and the game is going to slow down more and more and they're going to get more and more comfortable. But I tell you, well, I think the Broncos, you know, right now, Broncos fans are kind of frustrated because they're tired of losing, and I am too. But, I mean, this just feels different, though. We got a young quarterback with a lot of talent.
Starting point is 00:09:08 He can escape the pocket. He can make plays. You know, I was watching his interviews. He carries itself really, really well. Like, I think that we have something special. You know, we got Sean Payton. So we just got to allow it to manifest and build upon itself and don't put excess pressure on this kid.
Starting point is 00:09:24 So you played with the Niners back in 2019. I think you played with Kiddle and a lot of these guys, Nick Bosa, Fred Warner, who I think is the best linebacker in football. So when they took the Jets to the Woodshed, my take is you don't want to play a veteran team week one at home. I think the Jets are going to be fine. But if you watch that game, you're like, the Jets are terrible. You were in that Niner locker room.
Starting point is 00:09:50 I think there's like seven Hall of Famers. Fred Warner's a Hall of Famer. Trent's a Hall of Famer. Christian's a Hall of Famer. Kettle's going to be a Hall of Famer. I mean, Funga eventually is unbelievable. You tell me, the Niners culture, you were part of it.
Starting point is 00:10:08 I just think they're great. I don't think the Jets are bad. What was it like to be part of that team? I think it's the best roster in the league. Oh, the Niners. What Kyle has built out there, I mean, it's special. I don't have too many regrets, but sometimes I sit back and say,
Starting point is 00:10:24 why the hell did I leave? We were coming off to Super Bowl, and I was on my last leg, and I was just weighing the eyes and going back again. I knew how hard it was repeat, but, man, I wish I would have never left. I mean, just playing in the college, Sanehan, man, it was awesome. I mean, the weather out there in California and 70 and sunny, and, I mean, just the energy out there. It's just special, man, playing with kiddo and Debo and both.
Starting point is 00:10:49 and Fred and all those boys. I mean, a semi-young team, but it's a bunch of grown men that love ball and they come to work every single day. And not only that,
Starting point is 00:10:59 they got, in my opinion, you missed the Hall of Fame because Kyle Shannon to me is going to be a Hall of Fame. Right. And,
Starting point is 00:11:07 I mean, he stays true to the run. I mean, his system is everything that I am as a receiver. They want receivers that will take pride in the run game.
Starting point is 00:11:17 Yeah. And who can, who can, who can, who can, who can, the ball to be consistent with who they are and how they are how they play and so what he's built out there it's just special man and man i was watching this super bowl this previous super bowl when they
Starting point is 00:11:30 lost it it crushed me i mean my energy just went down because i can't wait until Kyle host that hoist that lombardi trophy man because he's he's deserving of him for sure finally josh allen you played with Josh i actually loved buffalo last night because they ran the ball and i and i always talk about the Luca dauntage of the Dallas Mavericks. It's like, I can love a guy. I want him to be the man. I don't want him to be the only man. And I watched Buffalo last night and I'm like, oh, that can win the Super Bowl. Two tight ends, depth, good back. Their defense is always good with Sean. What was it like playing with Josh? As a leader, as a guy. Man, first of all, watching Josh, man, I love the way that he's playing right now,
Starting point is 00:12:18 especially because he doesn't have no big time receivers. I mean, when me and Diggs was there, it was like, man, I got to get these guys to ball. I got to get these guys the ball. And now he's just like, man, I'm going into the game, and I'm just making my reason. I'm finding an open guy, and there's no emotions of having to force the ball to somebody.
Starting point is 00:12:37 And I think that it's a great thing for him. I mean, and just playing with him. One thing that I didn't like is this overrated comparison. I'm like, are these people crazy out of their minds? I mean, this guy is just as fast as me, he's 645. I mean, he has a rocket of an arm. I mean, he has all the intangibles. I mean, he's an incredible player.
Starting point is 00:12:58 I truly enjoy being out there, you know, just watching his growth. You know, in Buffalo watching him versus the Chiefs blink, right? He's just blinking and all fire jumping over guys. the same way he was doing against the Cardinals. I mean, I love this version of Josh Allen. He's the same Josh Allen I played with in 2021. But I feel like back then they were giving him expectations. He's supposed to be great.
Starting point is 00:13:26 But now he doesn't have the receiver, so to speak, that they want him to have, and he's balling, and I'm loving it. Emmanuel, I always love having you on the show. Thoughtful guy. Good luck to you. Good luck to your son. I know he loves football too. he's going to like basketball more. It's indoors. He can dunk. That's way more fun. Basketball practice way more fun than football practice. Emmanuel. Just get ready. He's got to throw those pads and that stuff away in about three years. You go hoop, and you're going to have to watch that and deal with it.
Starting point is 00:13:53 I hope not. We'll see, though. All right. Emmanuel, good seeing you, my man. I appreciate you calling you a good senior as well. All right. There's a real pro right there. That guy knows the game really, really well. And I think his point is fascinating that I never even thought of. You don't want that to be your last play. You're a pro athlete. You say, well, I don't know. I totally, I could totally get that as a pro athlete. I want my last show to sing, baby. Weren't Elway and Manning's final plays, basically, Super Bowl winning walkoff? Yeah, I can remember as a kid, Elway announcing his retirement after the Super Bowl. And I remember thinking this.
Starting point is 00:14:28 He's still like a top 10 quarterback. Like, why would you? But, you know, John was a Stanford guy, had businesses. But it's very rare. I don't know why in my brain, Roger Stoback. I thought could have played longer. I don't, maybe that's not true. It's all fuzzy.
Starting point is 00:14:43 But Elway and Staubach, I remember when they retired, I thought they still had something in the tank. Stobach, what is that? 70s football? Yeah. Seventy's reference. We haven't had one of those in a while. Nice job by you.
Starting point is 00:14:53 I guess we stopped talking about baseball now that football. I mean, Tom Brady can still play. Yeah. No question. Miami Dolphins. Tom Brady. He sniffed around at one point. He could broadcast and then get on a jet, fly down,
Starting point is 00:15:06 game plan? You want to throw a Tyree Kill at J. LaWaddle? Sure. Yeah, I mean, seriously, if you were a backup quarterback in this league And you wanted one more shot You almost play for free in Miami McDaniel, Jalen, those backs Tyreek
Starting point is 00:15:24 That is, I mean, a lot of times when you go in As a backup quarterback You know, it's like Like the Justin Fields thing It's just going to be hard Miami is a backup quarterback That is like, if I'm Zach Wilson, and I'm like, I'll play it for free.
Starting point is 00:15:40 Get me down there. And that is, you get the coach, you get the receivers, you get the backs. The lifestyle, the culture in Miami. That stuff doesn't matter? South Beach. I like it. My wife does it. My wife thinks it's too nightclubby.
Starting point is 00:15:54 And I'm like, hey, dad, he's going to get groceries. I'm out there dancing. Miami and L.A. She doesn't like those cities. Those are like awesome cities. I got to talk to Ann. I've seen her in a while. I got to talk to her.
Starting point is 00:16:09 sure to catch live editions of the herd weekdays in noon eastern 9 a.m. Pacific on Fox Sports Radio, FS1, and the IHeart Radio app. Imagine an Olympics where doping is not only legal but encouraged. It's the enhanced games. Some call it grotesque.
Starting point is 00:16:25 Others say it's unleashing human potential. Either way, the podcast Superhuman documented it all, embedded in the games and with the athletes for a full year. Within probably 10 days, I'd put on 10 pounds. I was having trouble stopping the muscle growth.

Listen to stuff to blow your mind on the IHeart radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Do you remember when Diana Ross double-tap little Kim's boobs at the VMAs? Or when Kanye said that George Bush didn't like black people. I know what you're thinking. What the hell does George Bush got to do a little Kim?
Starting point is 00:18:31 Well, you can find out on the Look Back at it podcast. I'm Sam J. And I'm Alex Ingl. Each episode, we pick it here, unpack what went down, and try to make sense of how we survived it. Including a recent episode with Mark Lamont Hill, waxing all about crack in the 80s. To be clear, 84's big to me, not just because of crack.
Starting point is 00:18:51 I'm down to talk about crack on day, but just so y'all know. I mean, at this point, Mark, this is the second episode where we've discussed crack, so I'm starting to see that there's a through line. We also have AIDS on the table right now, so. Thank you for finishing that sentence. Yes. I don't think there's a more important year for black people. Really?
Starting point is 00:19:10 Yeah. For me, it's one of the most important years for black people in American history. Listen to look back at it on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Welcome to my new podcast, Learn the Hard Way with me, your host, and your favorite therapist, Kear Games. And in recognition of Mental Health Awareness Month, I'm bringing over a decade of my own experience in the mental health field and conversations with so many incredible guests. I'm talking, Tripp Fontaine, Ryan Clark, Sometimes when we're in the pursuit of the thing, we get so wrapped up in the chase that we don't realize that we are in possession of the thing.
Starting point is 00:19:46 And we're still chasing it. And we don't know when we've done enough. Because people scoreboard watch. Life becomes about wins and losses. Steve Burns, Dustin Ross, because you find it important to be a good person while you hear on earth. Are you a good person because you're afraid? Because that's two different intentions, bro. Absolutely.
Starting point is 00:20:03 And that's two different levels of trust. I want you to just really be a good person. Join me, Kear Gaines, as we have real conversations about healing, growth, fatherhood, pressure, and purpose on my new podcast, Learn the Hardway. Open your free iHeartRadio app. Search Learn the Hardway and listen now.
Starting point is 00:20:22 J-Mac with the news. No, no, no, no. Turn on the news. This is the herd line news. All right, I know we like to force feed you positive stuff, teams and players you like. I like positive vibes. Well, we're going to start with the Rams
Starting point is 00:20:35 and Colin, this injury report is almost unfathable. I've never seen this. This is brutal. They didn't play their guys in the preseason, right? A lot of them. And now after one game, it's like, holy cow, they, you know, they lose in overtime. And now you go on the road to Arizona, and Stafford was asked about how L.A. is going to navigate this injury bug.
Starting point is 00:20:54 Ooh, listen to this. We're going to have bumps along the way. You know that's going to be the case. This is NFL football. There's injuries that happen. Got to continue to try and, you know, come together as a team, mold. And, you know, like we said, next man up at this point, you know, who's ever available to play, ready to go, get those guys as ready as we possibly can go out there rock and roll. And, you know, I like the chances to, you know, just go out there and play a while.
Starting point is 00:21:19 Yeah, good luck. I mean, look at this. Oh, my God. This is for our radio audience. We put their injuries on the screen. Let me count this. One, two, three. No, wait, Alan doesn't start.
Starting point is 00:21:29 One, two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight, nine. 10 starters out. And they have left tackle suspended for the first two games, Jackson. Oh, time out, time out. Sean McVeigh just said, this is big. Rob Havenstein, the right tackle will play. So Warren McClendon, his backup goes to left tackle. That's not ideal.
Starting point is 00:21:56 He's a smaller tackle to begin with. So, Havenstein's plan. So talk me through the game plan here. Is this a heavy run game with backups? I think it's a heavy, Tight-in usage, running back usage, a lot of throws in the flat. Don't make, I don't know Arizona's defensive front that well yet. It's terrible.
Starting point is 00:22:14 Okay, so there's your advantage that Stafford. I don't want Stafford on five and seven-step drops, but if it's not a great pass rush. So Josh Allen last week, 18 of 23 for 232. A lot of underneath stuff, not many explosives down the field, and they rushed for a buck 30. Cook had a good game. So this feels to me like a Kyron Williams, 25 carries. let's get out of here with the dub. Maybe Blake Corum actually touches...
Starting point is 00:22:38 Oh, sorry, no. The other running back, yeah. Kyron Williams, Blake Corum. Yes. Maybe they work him in. I feel like there's a run-heavy game from the Rams. I don't think they're going to have Stafford in the pocket with three backup offensive linemen, potentially taking hits.
Starting point is 00:22:53 Trouble. Yeah, that does not look good. Next up, let's go to Bo Nix. Your favorite rookie quarterback had a rough debut against the Seahawks, 26 of 42. for 138. Two pretty bad interceptions.
Starting point is 00:23:07 Did have a rushing touchdown. Nix didn't have a great start to his career, but Cortland Sutton said he feels positive about his QB moving forward. I think he did a lot of things really well. I told him after the game, he composed himself and handled the flow of the game well. You know, the outcome wasn't what we wanted.
Starting point is 00:23:26 But in terms of the way, you know, he came in and handled his very first game in the hostile environment, there's a lot of hope. and promise moving forward. Yes, it's frustrating to lose, but, I mean, she was the same way people say, you got 24 hours to celebrate the win, you got 24 hours to
Starting point is 00:23:41 get over a loss. You got to go in and watch the film, learn for your mistakes, put it to bed. I don't know, I like Cortland Sutton a lot. I think their talents better than people think. I really do. I think Denver's got, I thought their defense played very, very well. And I don't think it's a great, you know, so much of this sport is coaching. I don't know.
Starting point is 00:24:00 I don't buy, I thought Beau was the best rookie I saw play. Corner. A quarterback. I thought he was the best. And they asked him to throw 42 times on the road against the elite corners in one of the loudest stadiums and Mike McDonald. One bad pick. He had two picks, but one was terrible. I just can't get over the one terrible pick.
Starting point is 00:24:15 The announcer, I forget who it was. But you can't even see the receiver on the screen. And as soon as Nixon unloads it, the announcer's like, oh, no, before you could even see the receiver or the defensive back and it was picked. It was like... You're going to have a couple, oh, nos. It's going to happen. I know that. Zach Wilson had a couple of those as a rookie with the Jets.
Starting point is 00:24:34 Kyle, and the final story is interesting. This is a good find by our producer. So Drake May did not play in week one. Jacoby Brissette led the Pats to the big win. However, May says Brissette has been leading by example on the field and in team meetings, and the biggest thing he's learned from the veteran is how to manage the game, adding, you don't need to make big-time throws all the time. Managing the game is important.
Starting point is 00:24:55 And then Gerard Mayo offered this. Current first-team rep split in practice is 70-30. Brissette. So May's getting snaps. Why? Because he's the future of the franchise. Brissette is the starter. They won week one.
Starting point is 00:25:11 You're giving the backup 30% of the snaps? Absolutely. I was a little surprised at that. Brissette's been around forever. How do you think he feels about that? Not too concerned. Oh, hey, well, how's Jacoby feel? Doesn't really matter, doesn't it.
Starting point is 00:25:25 Who cares about QB1? No, I'm just saying is Jacobi's known as a great team guy, Drake's the future, rookie head coach. This thing is all about the, this is a long runway here. I think this is really smart. Does Mayo have a long runaway? By the way, I'm very disappointed. Where is the kid from Tennessee?
Starting point is 00:25:42 Joe Milton? I'd like to see him getting about 10% of those snaps as well. Why don't we just divide it 40, 30, 20? No, it doesn't against Jacoby, but it's like this is a top six drafting team. That game over Cincinnati may be the highlight of the year. That could be the highlight of the year we beat Joe Burrow. Can they take down Seattle or are they looking ahead to the jets? It's a three-point spread.
Starting point is 00:26:02 Three and a half, actually. Oh, is it now? So the wise guys are on Seattle? On the road? Gino Smith laying more than a field goal? No touch. But I would say, don't forget what we thought about the Patriots 10 minutes before they played the Bengals. We thought this is the number one pick in the draft.
Starting point is 00:26:21 So week one is almost like glorified for some of these teams, especially defensive coach, rookie quarterback. It's like a preseason game. I mean, now, McVeigh, Shanahan, Andy Reid, you know, you got some veteran players. It's not a preseason game. A lot of these teams with young quarterbacks, it's experimental. So, J. Mack with the news. Well, that's the news. And thanks for stopping by.
Starting point is 00:26:48 The Hurdline News. All right, his NFL picks next. I just discovered J-Lab headphones. I'm hooked. Best audio products in the game. Great value. Blue Box. Check out the Blue Box at Walmart, Target Best Buy and more.

Starting point is 00:30:09 Including a recent episode With Mark Lamont Hill Waxing all about crack in the 80s To be clear 84 is big to me Not just because of crack I'm down to talk about crack on day But just so y'all know
Starting point is 00:30:22 At this point Mark this is the second episode where we've discussed crack. So I'm starting to see that there's a through line. We also have AIDS on the table right now. Thank you finishing that sentence. I don't think there's a more important year for black people. Really?
Starting point is 00:30:37 Yeah. For me, it's one of the most important years for black people in American history. Listen to look back at it on the Iheart radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Welcome to my new podcast, Learn the Hardway with me, your host, and your favorite therapist, Kear Games. And in recognition of mental health awareness month, I'm bringing over a decade of my own experience in the mental health field and conversations with so many incredible guests.
Starting point is 00:31:01 I'm talking. Tripp Fontaine, Ryan Clark. Sometimes when we're in the pursuit of the thing, we get so wrapped up in the chase that we don't realize that we are in possession of the thing. And we're still chasing it, and we don't know when we've done enough. Because people scoreboard watch.
Starting point is 00:31:18 Life becomes about wins and losses. Steve Burns, Dustin Ross. you find it important to be a good person while you hear on earth? Are you a good person because you're afraid? Because that's two different intentions, bro. Absolutely. And that's two different levels of trust. I want you to just really be a good person.
Starting point is 00:31:35 Join me, Kear Gaines, as we have real conversations about healing, growth, fatherhood, pressure, and purpose on my new podcast, learn the hard way. Open your free, IHeartRadio app. Search Learn the Hardway and listen now. All right, Jamek, are you ready to roll? Now, last week, you and I struggled a bit. Well, in the Vegas contest, I went three one and one, so I'll take that. Oh, you save your best picks for the Vegas contest. No, no, they were many of the same from here.
Starting point is 00:32:01 I had a good week. All right. Miami was not good to us last night. That was dumb. That was a lean. Well, that we also said before the game, if both running backs don't play, it's not, you know, it's going to be. They can't play and killed me in fantasy. I know.
Starting point is 00:32:14 We didn't have great conviction. Yeah, no, no. It wasn't like, say, well, we'll get to it. We'll get to it. All right, we call it tomorrow's headlines today. What's the headline on Saints and Cowboys on Fox? So you pick this game. I like it as well.
Starting point is 00:32:29 This was pretty much early in the week circled as one of the favorites. The headline for the Cowboys will be Dallas Poeboys. Saints get sandwiched down south. I think this is definitely the Cowboys. We talked about them being bullies. When they're big favorites, I think Dak is like 72% when he's favored by six or more. I mean, they just run away and beat these bad teams. and now no Marshawn Lattimore for the Saints.
Starting point is 00:32:53 Their top cornerbacks out. Who's going to guard C.D. Lamb? C.D. Lamb had a very good opener against the Browns. I just, this Dallas team, I think maybe we were a little low on them coming into the season because of all the uncertain team. I thought their wide receiver targets played well. Yeah, they did. And DAC got the job done. Now, the Saints are the big question.
Starting point is 00:33:11 Are they good? They beat the Panthers 47 to 10? That's the problem. They only allowed two pressures to Carolina last week. And they have like a bottom of the league offensive line. Dallas had 17 quarterback hits. So something's going to bend here. Either Dallas is not that great of defensive line
Starting point is 00:33:27 or the Saints offensive line crumbles. I like the Cowboys to win and cover. Tomorrow's headlines today. Steelers go to Sean Peyton and Bow Nix in the Mile High City. I kind of like this. Pittsburgh off a big win, right? In Atlanta going on the road again, the headline will be Organics Chemistry.
Starting point is 00:33:47 Bowenelt steel to find formula. give me the Broncos winning outright. Colin, this is a situation where the total is dipping precipitously. I think I saw it at 36. And then you look at the Denver Broncos. Like you said, they weren't awful last week. Knicks had to throw 42 times.
Starting point is 00:34:03 That will not be the case against Pittsburgh. And I look at Justin Fields. Remember you showed his passing chart? Zero passes in the middle of the field. Well, he's facing one of the best cornerbacks in the league in Patrick Sartan. He will follow Pickens around. And then it's like, okay, who else is beating me? Justin Fields, what are you going to do?
Starting point is 00:34:18 and I think they can box him in. I think the Broncos win this outright, and it's a positive for Bo Nix and Peyton getting the dub at home. A game I wouldn't touch you like on Fox. Tomorrow's headlines today. Colts at the Packers. You never like the Packers. This is risky.
Starting point is 00:34:34 This is very risky on my end. A backup quarterback, assuming he gets to start. The headline for the Packers will be truth or dairy. Malik Milk's moment with cheeseheads. Yeah, let's go. Malik Willis. Again, I pointed this out earlier. He was with the Tennessee Titans
Starting point is 00:34:51 who have played, you know, they had to play the Colts twice a year. Gus Bradley's defense are familiar with. Gus Bradley doesn't blitz a lot. They blitzed at the lowest percent in the league last year. He liked to sit back in his cover three. We're not giving up big plays. I mean, I think Malik Willis should have success.
Starting point is 00:35:08 Dumpoffs to Dobbs and Reed and Watson. You guys go make plays. The other thing to watch is, last week the Colts gave up, I think it was like 150 yards to Joe Mixett on the ground. Well, Malik Willis is a running quarterback, right? And you've got Josh Jacobs, a decent group of backs there. I think Green Bay can win this outright.
Starting point is 00:35:26 I'm not down on the Colts. I just don't think Anthony Richardson should be laying points on the road. And Shane Steichen, we like him a lot. This is just a tough spot to be favored. So give me the Packers, getting three. By the way, I will say some of these games that you feature are not the most attractive television products. Tomorrow's headlines today.
Starting point is 00:35:45 Browns at the Jags. That is a corner TV game. No, it's a U. No, come on. The Deshawn Watson stuff circulating. I think there's a lot here. We try to pick up tendencies, right? All these new coordinators.
Starting point is 00:35:58 What did you see? Yeah, yeah, yeah. And I saw some stuff from the Jags that has me to this headline. For the Cleveland Browns, it'll be rub a dub-dub. Browns win without Chubb. Yeah, no, Nick Chubbs still. I noticed the Jags played a lot of man-to-man defense. They got the new defensive coordinator in there.
Starting point is 00:36:13 And they entered at work for a half. They kind of surprised Tua. And then what happened in the second half? Tua uncorks, bombed to Tyreek Hill. Tua was one of two quarterbacks over 300 yards. This should be a get-right game for Deshawn Watson. Why? Tyson Campbell, the best cover corner on Jacksonville, just got put on the IR.
Starting point is 00:36:30 Colin, Jerry Judy, Amari Cooper. I think there's a world where Watson can have success down the field. His stats last week, down the field, air yards of 15 plus. He was 0 for 10 against Dallas. O for 10. He will not be that bad again. I think the Browns bounce back. I like the Jags as a team, but that was a brutal loss in week one.
Starting point is 00:36:50 Now you come home, and they don't really have a home field advantage. Well, it's interesting because they lost that lead and lost momentum. They do that a lot. And then Peterson, why did he go for it on fourth down at like his own 30 right after the Tyree kill touchdown? And they kind of fumbled it away. It was just like, oh. But when you watch Buffalo manhandle the dolphins, even pre-to-a-concussion, I mean, it wasn't competitive. and then you look at Jacksonville losing to Miami.
Starting point is 00:37:15 It makes me think less of Jacksonville. I think they had three first downs in the second half. It was just anemic. And an offensive coach. Yeah, Jim Schwartz, he will bounce back here. I like the Browns on the road. Okay, and finally, you're talking about it. You've got to watch this last game.
Starting point is 00:37:29 Come on. Finally in the NFC is tomorrow's headlines today. I may not see a play from this game. Well, it's on Fox. Giants commanders on Fox. This is a rivalry. I grew up, you know, in the D.C. area. Oh, this was your kind of favorite game.
Starting point is 00:37:44 Well, I disliked both teams because I was a Jets fan. I'm like, put the Jets on. But I had to watch the Giants a lot. The headline for Giants, Washington will be, Love thy neighbors. Commanders can't keep commandment. Give me the New York Giants and a bit of a stutter. I like this pick.
Starting point is 00:38:01 I didn't put it in my five, but I like this pick too. I'm waiting to see what Malik neighbors did at practice today. He was a little limited yesterday with a knee, which is strange and not good at all. But, Colin, again, we dive deep into stuff that people aren't going to look at. Did you notice what happened with Washington's special teams last week? No.
Starting point is 00:38:17 So their kickers shanked two field goals and they cut him. So now they've got to bring on a new kicker. Special teams could be a big factor in this one. Washington looked dreadful. And then Jaden Daniels, Colin. It was just dump off city. Brian Robinson, Austin Echler, did not want to throw it out the ball down the field.
Starting point is 00:38:35 That plays to the giant strengths. Their front seven is very good. Their back end is not great. Well, if Daniels ain't throwing deep and he's only doing short stuff, York should be able to hang around. And then there's Daniel Jones, who can't beat anybody except Washington. It's five, one and one. Exactly. And he has, I think, 10 touchdowns and three interceptions. For whatever reason, he gets up to play Washington. He won't be as bad as he was last week, right? What's our mantra? Nobody's as good or as bad as they were the week before.
Starting point is 00:39:02 Jones, who we don't think is a starting quarterback, well, I don't. I think they bounce back, and I'd like the Giants here in a close one. Yeah, I think you're on the right side. I'd Colts Packers to me, I thought that was your funniest headline. That's one of those. Rams, Arizona. Now, Havenstein can play. Now it makes me think I'd probably take the Rams. If the receiver plays for the Giants, I like the Giants. Yeah, Neighbors is out.
Starting point is 00:39:27 They have no weapons at all. That Viking game was extremely bleak. The Giants are a tough watch. You're right. They're going to make the eyes bleed. If your wife walks in the room, she's like, this is not football. What are you watching? Is this like, but there's so many good games.
Starting point is 00:39:41 and that early window, Colin, stacked. It is stacked. And there's a couple I'm really interested in. No, Jets Titans has to be up there. The other one I considered, so here's the week two schedule. I apologize to our radio audience. But, you know, I don't like big favorites. So I think Baltimore is going to clobber the Raiders,
Starting point is 00:39:59 but I can't put it in my Blazing Five. It's just too many points. Week two, underdogs tend to do well week two, which is, okay, so I'm going to give you my three favorite picks. You tell me which one you think is a bad pick. So I like Jets over the Titans. I like the Texans over the Bears. And then I also picked, what was my other favorite?
Starting point is 00:40:18 Oh, I had the Cowboys over the Saints, which are you good? So of these two, which one do you think you really don't like? I just, I don't feel great about the Jets. Short week. I think. So look, they lose Monday night, Colin. Right? So they fly home.
Starting point is 00:40:30 You get in maybe one or two days of practice, right? You can't, right after the game, you can't practice. And then you've got to go back on the road to Tennessee. So they're going to be a little road weary here. I know it's early in the season and how could. fatigue play a factor. The 49ers bully people. They push teams around, Colin. And this is going to start 0-1-2, and then you're going to lead with Rogers on Monday, just totally crapping on the Jets and how bad they are. I'm concerned. How about this? That would matter more if Aaron wasn't a
Starting point is 00:40:55 veteran, if Tyron Smith wasn't a veteran, is that they've got now a couple of veterans on the O line and Aaron Rogers. So I would worry if I had a young quarterback in a short week. Now, I do think your point about being bullied by the Niners. Teams that play the Niners last year the following week they were bad, but Aaron didn't get sacked, Oline gave up one sack. I think you're probably right. The wise
Starting point is 00:41:20 guys think I'm wrong on the Titans, I just think the gap in quarterback between C.J. Stroud and Caleb and Aaron and Will Elvis is so dramatic that if I get 12 possessions, Aaron will cover. He'll cover in 12 possessions. And Nashville's not a home
Starting point is 00:41:36 field advantage. It's not a big team. No. One of the quieter stadiums. By the way, Shifty Shepter, Giants first round pick Malik neighbors, cleared to play on Sunday. So now we both like the Giants. Yeah, I mean, he could cook.
Starting point is 00:41:51 I mean, that's secondary. Did you see them against Baker? He's guys open all day. No, they have to address. I think Washington literally is one of the teams at the deadline, has to go get a starter. By the way, Bobby Wagner,
Starting point is 00:42:02 they're trying to play him at middle linebacker. He got destroyed in coverage by the bucks. I mean, he's like 34 years old. I mean like. Hall of Famer. I think he'll bank the Hall of Fame. Great. Yeah. Can he guard anybody? Devin Singletary out of the backfield? No. Yeah. Anyway. All right. Emmanuel Sanders, great stuff today. Steve Khyme, my buddy stopped by as well.
