This is an I-Heart podcast.
Guaranteed Human.
Another podcast from some SNL, late-night comedy guy,
not quite.
Unhumor me with Robert Smygel and friends.
Me and hilarious guests from Bob Odenkirk to David Letterman
help make you funnier.
This week, my guest, S&L's Mikey Day and head writer,
Streeter Seidel, help an a cappella band
with their between songs banter.
Where does your group perform?
We do some retirement homes.
Those people are starving for banter.

Imagine an Olympics where doping is not only legal, but encouraged. It's the enhanced games.
Some call it grotesque. Others say it's unleashing human potential. Either way, the podcast's
superhuman documented it all, embedded in the games and with the athletes for a full year.
Within probably 10 days, I'd put on 10 pounds. I was having trouble stopping the muscle growth.

Hey, what's good, y'all?
You're listening to Learn the Hard Way with your favorite therapist and host, Kear Games.
This space is about black men's experiences, having honest conversations that it's really not safe to have anywhere, but you're having them with a licensed professional who knows what he's doing.
How many men carry a suit or armor?
It signals to the world that you're not to be played with.
And just because you have the capability that does not mean that you need to.

All right, hour three.
Here we go.
Live in Los Angeles, it's there.
Wherever you may be and however you may be listening, IHart Radio, Fox Sports, Radio, FSW.
It's such an easy win for Roger Goodell today.
For all his critics out there who think Deshawn Watson should not play,
if he just came out and said,
due to the unfortunate comments of Deshawn Watson's attorney,
I have decided to shut down the season for Deshawn Watson.
You get very few critics today.
And the people in Cleveland would be upset.
But not all of them, by the way.
Sometimes timing gives you opportunities.
And like Roger Goodell should make an announcement today and just say, yeah, I'm going to shut it down.
Because I always thought eight games was the number about Thanksgiving.
Shut it down today and say, due to how they're viewing this, they're not taking this seriously, we've decided to.
And by the way, this is how penalties often work.
How seriously are you taking it?
How apologetic are you?
What are the allegations?
There's a lot of moving parts here, but wow.
Well, they did appoint someone to investigate and give out suspensions,
and then you can, you know, try and get them, trying to peel it.
Reduced, you know, then Roger can make his,
Roger Goodell can make his determination on it.
But I don't know if he has the power to step in right away.
Now that this change has been made, but I've never seen anything like it.
Yeah.
Jason McIntyre is going to join us in 10 minutes.
Be sure to catch live editions of the herd weekdays in noon Eastern, 9 a.m. Pacific on Fox Sports Radio,
FS1 and the IHeart Radio app.
I'll tell you who did love last night, privately, Kevin Durant.
If you go look at since he left, the Warriors have lost a lot more games in the finals.
you know, it's not quite the same without Kevin Duran.
So with that, we bring in Jason McIntyre tomorrow's headlines today.
Fox Sports Gambling analysts.
What an introduction, Colin.
Kevin Duran, huh?
You know what he likes it.
Yeah, you think he liked that a little bit?
You know, Colin, did you feel that earthquake this morning?
It was a small one.
Did you feel it?
No.
No, five in the morning, I jolt it up from bed and I was like,
was that another Draymond Green brick?
From deep.
I mean, Dremont Green was awful last night.
I know he's your guy.
Jordan Poole.
Jordan Poole did not have a great game.
No.
Andre Agudala, not a great game.
But I liked your take on Curry this morning.
I got to say, it was level-headed.
It was not like the jabronies on social media who want to kill Steph Curry.
Where was he?
Game one of the finals.
He doesn't show up.
34, 5, and 5, Colin?
Unbelievable.
We're hammering Steph Curry for another great game.
I can't handle these social media people.
Here we go.
Former newspaper guy.
Tomorrow's headlines today.
day, let's start with this with Jason McIntyre.
Do we have it?
The former newspaper guy is going to make predictions and headlines going in.
Tomorrow's headlines today.
Let's start with Steph Curry after the finals.
Steph Curry?
A Steph toward legendary.
I'm not going to sell stock in Steph Curry.
I know a lot of people out there, oh, they're in trouble.
The Celtics could sweep them.
Tatum did nothing.
Let's just remind everybody, this is one game.
You remember when Alan Iverson came here with Philadelphia
and beat the Lakers in game one.
Step over Tyron Loo.
People, oh my gosh, Lakers are drunk.
Lakers won four straight.
The Warriors are not going to steamroll Boston.
But Golden State will be fine.
They dominated the third quarter.
They just got, you know, ran into a super hot Celtics team.
Colin, they made seven straight three-pointers to open the quarter.
Nine of 12 from deep in the fourth quarter.
I wonder, as I watched it, my takeaway is, I wonder how many teams in the league this year
hit seven straight three.
Listen, I got a great stat for you.
Derek White, guess how many games he made,
five threes all season.
Zero. Not once. Last night,
it's five of seven. They got, that was a,
Boston fans, don't get too upset. That was a lucky performance from deep.
Al Horford hitting six threes.
Derek White five,
Marcus Smart Four. Colin, that's never happening again.
All right. That's fair. All right, tomorrow's headlines today.
What's the headline for Clay Thompson after the finals?
And people want to say Steph's vanishing.
Where's Clay Thompson? The headline will be.
Clay can't make a splash.
in finals.
I'm worried about him, Colin.
Did you see him in the fourth quarter?
This used to be a lockdown defender.
He got torched.
I saw a stat.
It almost seems impossible to be true.
He was minus 27 in the fourth quarter on the floor.
Meaning he was out there and they just got obliterated.
If you watch closely, the rotations were terrible.
Tatum had a great game.
13 assists passing the ball.
And Clay's rotations were like a step slow.
We know he's not the same guy he was.
But listen, if Steph can give you 34 and you're not winning,
it's because nobody else delivered.
and Clay Thompson, six of 14.
That's not going to cut it.
He's got to play much better
for the Warriors to win this series.
All right.
Tomorrow's headlines today.
Uh-oh.
What's the headline for Draymond Green after game one?
I know he's your guy.
I don't want to go after your guy,
Dremont Green.
He was terrible last night.
The headline will be.
Splash Brothers need a trash brother.
Dramon Green,
will you pick up some trash?
Give me a put back near the hoop?
Can you make a layup,
Dremon?
Honestly, listen, I like Dremon Green
what he brings to the table.
But to come out and say,
we pretty much dominated the first three quarters?
Well, they led. They didn't dominate.
They were losing it half time, Dreymond.
I know you've got to do that to get everybody fired up.
But by the way, two for 12, miss some free throws, can't make a three.
And Colin, I put this screen grab on my Instagram.
There is a moment where Dremon Green's in the corner,
and Boston literally is just like, okay, you got that shot.
They were not guarding him.
They were not guarding Igu Dugula, literally 10 feet away from these guys.
And there's three guys around Curry and one guy on Clay Thompson.
Steve, Steve Kerr's got to make some decisions.
Obviously, you need Draymond out there, but he cannot be a total non-factor offensively if they're going to come back.
Yeah, that's fair.
Who's bad?
A guy I like, but interesting.
Tomorrow's headlines today.
Jason Tatum, you know, he verbalized this week that sometimes he doesn't know if he's the guy.
That's very un-MJ-like.
Listen, this is a 24-year-old kid.
I had his trainer on my podcast last week.
Tatum's an amazing story.
I love the kid, the headline.
will be the born
ultitam.
Jason hits stardom.
I'm not worried about the 3-4-17 start.
Again, being an alpha and 24 years old
in your first finals game,
like the spotlight was all on him,
and he didn't play great offensively.
He had 13 assists, Colin.
Seven, I think, in the first half.
Like, Tatum had a really good game
as an all-around effort,
defensively very good.
He just missed his shots,
and they still won the game.
Colin, I know people love Yokic and Embed.
They love the big guys for some reason.
Yeah, yeah. I think Tatum cements his status as a top five player with this series. I think he'll end up averaging, you know, 25, 30 a game. You want to go back to clutch. 46 points in game six against the bucks on the road with the season on the line. Tatum's a money player. He's going to be fine, everybody.
Yeah. You know, I was talking to this with somebody last night is when Curry's first move doesn't work, he backs up and goes again. Yeah. When Tatum is not a great ball handler, if his first step doesn't work, he'll pick up his dribble and move it.
Yeah.
No, the good news is Jalen Brown's delivering.
So tomorrow's headlines today.
Jalen Brown, boy, has he been a good fourth quarter player?
He's tough.
He just can't handle the basketball.
His handles very poor.
The headline will be, what can't Brown do for you?
Jalen Brown, as you said, he really showed up.
Early fourth quarter, remember with Curry on the bench, he kind of took over the game.
I'll tell you right now, Andrew Wiggins did a solid job against Luca Donchich.
I mean, he has no chance against Jaylench.
Brown. Brown just torched him. I mean, Brown was
everywhere. I know he took like 23 shots,
but he also, you see him here posting up
Steph Curry. Jalen Brown's a tough
guard, and, you know, we always talk about like
a one-two punch and Ken Brown
be the two. Remember, they were talking about trading him.
I think he solidified himself
as definitely a number two with
this playoff performance this season, Colin. He is
a nice player. He could do a little bit of everything, right?
Well, he was super athletic
at a cow. I never knew if he would
you know, it's like Jimmy Butler's a great athlete and a great player.
Is Jimmy a smooth offensive operator?
He averages 21 a game in regular season.
Brown's like that.
He's a great athlete who averages about 20 in the regular season.
And then when you put him in these spotlights, he really delivers.
Like, Jalen Brown feels like a better fourth quarter playoff player than a regular season player.
That's what Butler is.
Butler's a better playoff guy than a regular season guy.
100%.
And listen, you know I'm a big college basketball nerd.
I'll never forget Jalen Brown's final college game at Cal.
They lose in the NCAA.
He was one of 13 against Hawaii.
And I'm like, is this guy really going to be that good?
And you could just see, like, players grow and never take somebody's first impression
and, you know, use that as a barometer.
Because this guy's grown as a player.
He's an outstanding wing.
I like Jalen Brown.
Yeah, versatile.
Tomorrow's headlines today.
How about Marcus Smart?
What's the headline going to be after the finals?
I didn't know if we were going to do Al Horford, Marcus Smart.
I thought maybe Jordan Poole, but.
Smart is too good. The headline will be Book Smart. Curry School's Marcus. Did you watch the
in-game moment where Marcus Smart was miced up? And he was like, guys, we're not playing the
Miami Heat. You can't play this drop defense. I mean, Marcus Smart got lit up. And Colin, when they
went on that run in the fourth quarter, he was on the bench. It was the Derek White
Pratton Pritchard show. They won our 11-0 run when it was tied at 103. And you're like,
wait, Marcus Smart's not even on the floor, the defensive player of the year who got absolutely
eviscerated by Curry. I mean, look, it's a layup line in the first quarter.
I like Marcus Smart a lot. Tough player.
But Colin, like, he did not look good matched up against Curry in the first half at all.
Well, I'll say this.
My overriding take going into the series was six games.
One team is absolutely better at home on average, and one has more shot makers.
As I watch, Derek White now has done this multiple times.
Colin.
Like, if Derek White now, I'm just taking, remember, in this
happens. Players get into grooves and players get out, Bamada Bayou got out of a groove.
If Derek White's going to, he's been hitting shots in the playoffs. If this is what,
I'm not saying five threes, but if Derek White's a shot maker, it kind of feels a little bit like
a different series. They've got another guy on the wing that can hit jumpers. That's a problem.
And he was good defensively against Curry. He shot 22% from deep against a Miami Heat last round.
It's like, where did this come from? Like the Golden State was giving him the shots and Horford.
and you're like, well, if they're making them, I need to ask you, you'd watch a lot of NBA,
why the hell was Steve Kerr playing so much zone last night?
Like, they make five threes.
Okay, maybe get out of the zone.
They make 10 threes.
Maybe you want to get out of the zone, Steve.
15 threes.
They made 21 three-pointers.
Why are you playing zone so much?
I don't like to pick apart coaches, but the one thing I would say is I thought
Andre Iguadala, who had not played since the Denver series.
He played like five or six minutes in the fourth, and outside of one-three,
I thought that was a lot of time.
I don't know.
Again, Kerr's history is he played with older teams.
So he doesn't, you know, he doesn't want comminga near the playoffs.
I disagree with that.
They need comminga.
He's a bouncy, exciting.
I know, but he can make defensive plays.
He'll give you a couple splash plays at home.
But, you know, every coach has a tell or Steve doesn't like to play young guys.
Now, I'll give you an example.
And it's an example between an A player and a B-minus player.
Jordan Poole has A-nights, but he can also be,
awful.
Yeah.
Whereas Curry will have an off-night shooting or Tatum.
Tatum's never awful.
Last night he was off-shooting.
Like Jordan Poole was not only ineffective, he was a liability on the floor on both ends.
And that is the difference in this league.
From the great players, people get fooled by this.
And like Jordan Poole can give you three straight games and you're like, oh my God.
Yeah.
But last night, he was the, I literally am saying, you got to get him off the floor.
Okay, so who's helping Steph Curry in game to?
That's what it comes down to because if Wiggins,
Wiggins is 15 to 20.
Now see this.
Clay 15 to 20.
But here's my thing.
We talk about, we think rest
is helps pro athletes.
So the two teams that had buys in the NFL,
Tennessee and Griebate not only lost.
Yeah.
But the offenses struggle in both.
Now defense is line up and hit guys.
React.
Offense is fluidity, choreography.
My prediction was my only best.
last night was Celtics plus the points
in the first half. So
I think in game two
the only big change is
Al Horford won't be that hot.
And I think Golden State, I think
Wiggins and Jordan
Poole and Clay will be
more productive.
I think the narrative now is less
Jordan Poole because he doesn't play defense. I disagree
because I don't know where the offense is coming from, Colin.
They need more Jordan Poole.
You need another shooter out there because Clay's
inconsistent. And the rest
thing is good, but there's now, like, in the last series, there was only one day in between games,
right? It was game, travel, game, travel. This series, there's extra days built in. That helps
Al Horford, who I think turns 36 today or something insane. Also, the refs are not blowing the whistle.
Yeah. Big Edge Boston. Boston. They get handsy, you know, Marcus Smart. It's very physical.
Now, now, as a guy, you're a gambling guy. Yeah. Game two, like game one, is Golden State minus four and a half.
My initial thought is Warriors, but it is telling you, they didn't move it to seven.
Yeah.
They're like Boston, they're seeing what we're seeing, which is the refs are letting them play,
Big Edge Boston to keep the offense suppressed.
Who would you take it?
It's Golden State or pass for me.
And I think in game three is when you probably load up on Boston.
Game three, they go home, first finals game there in a while.
And, you know, listen, I think Golden State wins game two.
but I'm all of a sudden a little nervous about the Warriors in this series, Colin.
I am just a little bit.
Because if Curry doesn't get help, they're not winning the series.
That's an obvious one, right?
Who's going to help him?
That's the question.
It ain't going to be your guy, Draymond Green.
Do you think he's coming through with a 15 or a 20-point game?
No, but I think Wiggins could come through with an 18-point game.
We'll see.
I'm optimistic.
Curry's going to need a 40-burger at some point.
Jason McIntyre.
Great seeing you.
Yes, indeed.

To be clear, 84 was big to me, not just because of crack.
I'm down to talk about crack all day, but just so y'all know.
I mean, at this point, Mark, this is the second episode where we've discussed crack,
so I'm starting to see that there's a through line.
We also have AIDS on the table right now, so.
Thank you for finishing that sentence.
Yes.
I don't think there's a more important year for black people.
Really?
Yeah.
For me, it's one of the most important years for black people in American history.

Sometimes when we're in the pursuit of the thing, we get so wrapped up in the chase that we don't realize that we
are in possession of the thing
and we're still chasing it
and we don't know when we've done enough
because people scoreboard watch. Life becomes
about wins and losses.
Steve Burns, Dustin Ross

did not say something that's going to go over well with the NFL, basically saying, you know,
what Deshawn Watson is being accused of, well, it's not illegal. This is very important.
other NFL owners are not happy with the Brown's owner Jimmy Haslam right now because he gave,
he reset the market.
So the other billionaires have no love for Jimmy Haslam, who's always been, in my opinion,
one of the more dubious owners in this sport.
Didn't really know what he was doing when he first got it.
He's had his company investigated.
So the owners would not lose any sleep.
Roger Goodell came out and said, Deshawn Watson's done for the year and punish Jimmy Haslam.
Because when he paid Deshawn Watson a guarantee, all of it guaranteed, it ticked off the rest of the owners.
Because now every agent comes out and so Deshawn Watson got it.
And whether you're not, you think it's reasonable.
You know, billionaires like to control things.
Now the market's just out of control.
Players now all want their money guaranteed.
That's the NBA.
That's baseball.
That's what the NFL always had.
Like, we'll give you a lot of money up front, but we're not guaranteeing the whole thing.
So Roger Goodell works for the owners.
We all know that, right?
He works for the owners.
You have to, you know, you have to tap dance around punishment to owners.
Not in this case.
Haslam is not well liked.
You know, there's guys like Robert Kraft or Jerry Jones or Stan Cronky that are very powerful.
Then there's Jimmy Haslam.
So I think Deshawn Watson, if I'm Roger Goodell, you could make a swift decision right now,
and you'd be backed by all the people who essentially control you, the owners.
I think they would all back up with this, back him up on this.
Joy Taylor with the news.
Turn on the news.
This is the herd line news.
It's one of the craziest things I've ever heard an attorney say.
And they say crazy things.
And they defend some bad people.
Attorneys, remember, defense attorneys have defended the mob.
So we know they defend.
Attorney is defend.
Everyone has everyone that's how the system works.
Everyone gets their day in court.
But it's remarkable.
So two longtime NFL players are calling it a career.
Ryan Fitzpatrick is retiring after 17 seasons in the league.
His decision was leaked after former bills running back Fred Jackson
revealed a text message that Fitz sent to his former teammates,
thanking them for being a part of his career.
And's running back Frank Gore announced his retirement, which is actually the more surprising one,
because I just assumed that Frank was going to pay forever.
He signed a one-day contract with the Niners to end his career with his original team.
And San Francisco said that Gore will be inducted into the team's Hall of Fame.
Frank Gore played 16 seasons, 10 of them with the Niners, finished his career.
Third and all-time rushing yards with 16,000.
And Ryan Fitzpatrick played 17 seasons for nine different teams.
So two guys that have had very, very long careers and had a lot of success.
Really, Ryan Fitzpatrick to me is, he was a journeyman quarterback, but one of those guys that really represented if you are good in the locker room and can come in and win some games, you're always going to have a position.
Ryan was always way more athletic than he got credit for.
Way more athletic than Tua.
I mean, bigger moves around.
People didn't want to move off Ryan Fitzpatrick for Tua.
Yeah, no, a lot of coaches liked him because he was, you know, he went to Harvard.
He's pretty bright guy.
But he was also, I mean, as we show videotaped, he's a big, strong guy who can move.
He's got, you know what he is a little bit of?
He's got a little Sam Darnold, but he went to Harvard.
You know what I mean?
He was definitely a better decision maker.
Yeah, but he throws some picks, but he's a big guy that can move.
Yes, and he's not, he was not afraid to take impact either.
Like he's going to put his shoulder down and get in there if he needs to.
And Frank, obviously, is, I mean, just unbelievable overall football career.
One of the greatest of all times to do it.
And so happy for both of those guys, really great careers.
So congrats.
All right, NIL.
The debate continues.
Big NIL monsters.
End of time.
Climes around the country, scooping up all of these programs and leaving them in the dust.
So Ohio State head coach Ryan Day is the latest to offer his thoughts on the issue.
According today, the Buckeyes will need $13 million.
to keep their current roster intact.
He said one phone call and they're out the door.
We cannot let that happen at Ohio State.
I'm not trying to sound the alarm.
I'm just trying to be transparent about what we're dealing with.
If the speed limits 45 miles per hour, you drive 45 miles per hour.
A lot of people are going to pass you by.
If you go too fast, you're going to get pulled over.
So he's saying that it will be very tricky to navigate the NIL policies
and that they essentially will need $13 million in NIL money
to keep the players there.
Now, at first glance, that seems like a lot of money.
$13 million is a lot of money.
But there are some things to consider here.
For one, as you mentioned earlier,
this is Ohio State University.
So they're bidding for the best players.
You are bidding for the best players.
Against Bama and Oklahoma.
Correct.
And you also have that money.
So the Ohio State athletic department brought in
nearly $234 million pre-pandemic.
Hopefully you kept on just, you know, a little bit of that in the bank.
And they brought in $107 million during the pandemic year when people couldn't go to game.
So this is not a program or school that is hurting for money.
Yeah.
Or boosters, for that matter.
And like anything in life, things change.
You move the money around.
Yeah.
Instead of a new facility, instead of having to invest in things that players don't care about
anymore. You use that money, allocate that money, that you're obviously getting from boosters
for NIL money. Again, this is not the schools paying the students. That is not what's happening
here. So it's a very confusing way of saying this, but they are not getting money to pay the
students. They are not employees of the school. This is money that they're going to have to get
from line up when they are recruiting saying you top.
you know, four-star recruit.
Come to Ohio State and this, you know,
truck dealership is going to give you a truck.
You'll post it on social media.
You'll go do some appearances for them and this is what they will pay you to do that.
But for years and years, part of facilities was getting donors to give you money so you'd call it the Bob Smith baseball field.
So you go to the donors now.
Instead of getting that money for facilities, because kids don't care about that anymore,
they care about money.
You go to your donors and say, you don't have to give it.
Can you give us, instead of $100 million for a baseball stadium, $100 million for business over 10 years, and we'll use it as we see fit to get best quarterbacks?
But they actually won't do that, though.
That's why it's very confusing how we're talking about this.
The schools themselves are not allocating who gets paid.
The schools themselves are not saying we are going to give out these checks.
But what they do need to do is now create departments that handle the students and where they can get NIL money from.
It is not coming from a check from the school.
It's donors.
It's donors.
So it does need to be lined up so that when Ryan Day goes into a home of this recruit, he can say,
if you come here, there is NIL money that we cannot get you, but that will be available to you when you come to the school through these advertisers.
And here's the other fun part of this.
Since they're not being paid for their football services, those advertisers are actually getting value out of their money.
They're getting an ROI because those student athletes are promoting their products.
Right.
They're not being paid for football.
The scholarship is paying them for the football.
The big donors for years and years who have essentially paid the coaches, like Dan Gilbert is paying Mel Tucker.
So those guys have paid for coaches and facilities.
They've said, okay, you put your name on buildings.
Now those donors can get free advertising for their companies.
It's not for you advertising.
They're paying an endorser.
Yeah.
So you're just moving your donor money to a different place.
But the idea that you need massive facilities now.
Though they already have the massive facilities.
Yeah, but you don't even have to add in.
But you don't need to continue raising capital for those type of things.
You don't.
That's where like the chaos and like, oh, $13 million.
Why was this school going to afford $13 million?
You're not getting those students anyway.
Those students are not coming to your school.
So don't worry about it.
Don't you even will.
Don't worry about it.
Those kids were never coming to that school.
There's schools in the Pacific Northwest where I'm from that are not even really involved in an IL.
Like Oregon is, but like the other schools in the Northwest are like, we're not going to get into bidding wars.
Now, I think that's foolish.
I think you do have to spend a couple million a year to get like a top quarterback.
But it's not coming from the schools.
That's right.
But you go to your booster.
If you want to ignore it, that's your choice.
Right.
But you can also collaborate with businesses.
And the business will actually get an ROI on the money that they're spending because those students are advertising their
product. So the Warriors entered the fourth quarter of game one up by 12 points. Didn't end that way.
Celtics outscored them 40 to 16 in the fourth to pull off the 1208 win. And after the game,
Steve Kerr said the team was disappointed, but they won't let the pain of the loss linger.
Obviously, you know, everybody's down. You want to go out and win the first one. And we had every
opportunity, you know, 12 point lead going into the fourth. So guys are bummed, as you would expect.
But it's a seven-game series for a reason.
I think, you know, you give Boston credit.
They came in there and earned the win, played a great fourth quarter.
We'll come in, watch the film tomorrow and see where we can get better.
And, you know, it's one game.
So you move on to the next one.
Well, to Jason McIntyre's point, Steph Curry is going to need a little help.
He had 34 points last night.
Clay Thompson had 15 points.
Kvon Luni had four points.
Andrew Wiggins did add 20 and five rebounds.
And Dramon had four points, but he had 11 rebounds and five assists.
So the offense is going to have to balance out a little bit for Golden State.
But again, last night, fourth quarter was an outlier.
I don't believe everyone is going to shoot the way that they did from three on the Boston side in the next game.
Now, that's not to say it's going to fall off.
But, you know, we read this stat earlier about how it goes.
three-pointers.
Teams are combined 15-0 when they shoot from 40% or better from three-point range,
and they're five-and-nine in the following game and have shot just 33.5% from three.
Also, I don't know if you guys know this, but the three-point line is really far out.
So when you shoot a bunch of threes, it is after a while a little bit exhausting.
Like, it's really far.
I almost threw my shoulder.
Have you ever tried to shoot from an NBA people-line?
Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah.
No, it's, I mean, it's, you're noticing players are getting better at it.
So it takes pro-athlete.
I mean, when this avalanche started three-point shooting, most bigs couldn't shoot them.
Right.
It would take them like two years to develop their three-point shot.
Those are pro basketball players who play basketball all the time.
So this is what you're seeing now, college basketball couldn't hit two-pointers.
You're seeing the ripple effect of the three-point.
Yeah, just it takes time to get great at something, and you're seeing it slowly work.
Yeah.

It's the enhanced games.
Some call it grotesque.
Others say it's unleashing human potential.
Either way, the podcast's Superhuman documented it all,
embedded in the games and with the athletes for a full year.

Do you remember when Diana Ross double-tapped Little Kim's boobs at the VMAs?
Or when Kanye said that George Bush didn't like black people.
I know what you're thinking.
What the hell does George Bush got to do with Little Kim?
Well, you can find out on the Look Back at it podcast.
I'm Sam Jek.
And I'm Alex English.
Each episode, we pick a here, unpack what went down,
and try to make sense of how we survived it.
Including a recent episode with Mark Lamont Hill,
waxing all about crack in the 80s.
To be clear, 84 is big to me, not just because,
of crack.
I'm down to talk about crack on day, but just so y'all know.
I mean, at this point, Mark, this is the second episode where we've discussed crack.
So I'm starting to see that there's a through line.
We also have AIDS on the table right now.
Thank you finishing that sentence.
Yes.
I don't think there's a more important year for black people.
Really?
Yeah.
For me, it's one of the most important years for black people in American history.

Sometimes when we're in the pursuit of the thing, we get so wrapped up in the chase that we
don't realize that we are in possession of the thing.
And we're still chasing it.
And we don't know when we've done enough.
Because people scoreboard watch.
Life becomes about wins and losses.
Steve Burns, Dustin Ross,
because you find it important to be a good person while you hear on earth?
Are you a good person because you're afraid?
Because that's two different intentions, bro.
Absolutely.
And that's two different levels of trust.
I want you to just really be a good person.

It is, you know, it's one of the reasons you have to be careful about overreacting in sports because, you know, it's inches not feet.
If Jimmy Butler hits a jumper is boss.
here. So this idea that I told you so, or I knew Boston went to two game sevens.
Boston had the heat beat at home game six and kind of gagged. And Jason Tatum did not play well.
And Jason Tatum last night did not play well. Jimmy Butler hits a single three. Boston may not be here.
So like today, it's like, I told you so I know. Boston's kind of fortunate. Jimmy Butler had a wide open three.
and as Eric Spolster said, I thought it was going in.
So you just don't know.
Whereas Golden State steamrolled Denver, steamrolled Dallas, beat Memphis, better team.
You know, Boston's gone to two game sevens and Butler hits a three and they may not be here.
So it's like I wouldn't overreact too much.
And also, Derek White and Al Horford just both happen to have their greatest moment at the exact same time.
but it's interesting.
Like if something happens in sports or life or business twice in a row,
then it's like, hmm, if it happens three times, it's reality.
Once can be a fluke, twice you need to inspect it.
Three times, that's the truth.
So if Boston comes out again and Clay Thompson struggles again and Draymond struggles again,
like that's going to be, now you have to, if you're Steve Kerr,
we've got to make alterations.
Like this is not working.
That happens three games in a row.
That's the finals.
That's what it's going to look like.
So I do think Draymond will play better and Clay Thompson will play better.
And Jordan Poole won't be horrible.
And simultaneously, I don't think Al Horford's going to do that again.
Golden State did lead for three quarters.
And the line's the same.
But it is interesting.
So Golden State gets hammered at home.
You would think my guess would have been the line goes to six and a half,
feeling like, okay, it didn't.
The line is the same as it was for the first game, which is four and a half.
So the line not moving is a little bit of a hedge maybe by, you know, your Fandals and your odds makers and all the Fox bed.
It's like, they're kind of seeing what everybody else is, which is, because usually if a great team at home gets beat, they're going to thump them.
The line's like, no, we kind of think it's going to be a close game again.
So that, to me, comes down to the whistles.
Is they're not, they're not, if Robert Williams is healthy and the Celtics can play with that kind of physicality,
You're going to have a close series.
It's going to be a six or seven game series.
And it's going to come down to can you hit a, can you hit a shot?
Can Clay hit a big shot in game five could decide the series?
Or does Marcus Smart hit the big shot in game five?
I mean, this was going to be a long series.
The idea that Golden State was just going to beat them in five or sweep them or there was,
like this is always going to go six or seven.
These are the two best teams in the league.
They both went through the whole gauntlet of the postseason.
They know how to make adjustments.
they know how to overcome things.
Both of these teams do.
Now, obviously the Warriors have much more finals experience,
but I think that's why the line hasn't moved.
They're not going to panic because they lost one game.
It's interesting.
We talked about Boston losing.
If Golden State loses, you do get to a point,
which was, I've talked about this.
Steph's older and expensive,
Clay's older and expensive off two injuries.
Andrew is not, he's kind of old and expensive.
And Draymond's already old and expensive.
So we talk about, boy, if this Boston group doesn't win,
You've got to move some pieces.
But, yeah, but they're younger.
They're in their prime.
Golden State's got a different issue.
They are all expensive.
And if you kind of get rolled a little bit by, now you start thinking
to yourself, now we do it.
And I'm not sure I want to move Andrew Wiggins.
I'm not sure that guy, he is now available.
Last night, I didn't think he played well.
He dropped 20 and defended.
No, I don't think they break it up.
I know.
But that's how the dynasties end,
with a reluctance to go, guys, we got old expensive guys, we got to move pieces.
That's how, that's what, that's, that's how the dynasties end with the inability to just pivot and say,
it's time for a new day.
Well, it was one game, so there's, we have time to get to that.
That's going to be really interesting.
All right, game two is Sunday night.
Yes.
We're back here Monday, live in Los Angeles.
Be safe.
Have a great weekend.
It's the herd.
