Starting point is 00:00:00 This is an I-Heart podcast. Guaranteed Human. Another podcast from some SNL, late-night comedy guy, not quite. Unhumor me with Robert Smygel and friends. Me and hilarious guests from Bob Odenkirk to David Letterman help make you funnier. This week, my guest, SNL's Mikey Day and head writer, Streeter Seidel, help an a cappella band with their between songs banter.
Starting point is 00:00:23 Where does your group perform? We do some retirement homes. Those people are starving for banter. Listen to humor me with Robert Smigel and friends on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Imagine an Olympics where doping is not only legal, but encouraged. It's the enhanced games. Some call it grotesque.
Starting point is 00:00:42 Others say it's unleashing human potential. Either way, the podcast's Superhuman documented it all, embedded in the games and with the athletes for a full year. Within probably 10 days, I'd put on 10 pounds. I was having trouble stopping the muscle growth. Listen to Superhuman on the I-Hard Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Hey, I'm Deanna Maria Riva, and on my new podcast, How Hard Can It Be? I call on my Gen X squad from Ohio to Hollywood as we navigate Midlife's most fantastic BS.
Starting point is 00:01:14 Unfiltered conversations from night sweats to fupas to scheduling sex. Wait, what sex? Is it just me or does every woman my age want to look at Pinterest instead of having sex sometimes? They say we can't polish a turn, but we're sure going to try. So let's get blunt with laughs, tears, or tears of laughter. Listen to How Hard Can It Be with Diana Maria Riva on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Therapy is fantastic, but once again, it does not have a monopoly on healing. That's why I create the resources and that's why I create the community because I really just want you to have more access.
Starting point is 00:01:47 On the podcast, cultivating her space, Dr. Dom and Terry Lomax create a space where black women can show up fully and be heard. It's tough because we're suppressing our emotions and so many of us are like high achieving individuals. Listen to cultivating her space on the IHeart radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcast. The story I've told myself can then shape my behavior and that can lead me to sabotage the possibility of connection. This Mental Health Awareness Month, tune into the podcast deeply well with Debbie Brown. if you've been searching for a soft place to land while doing the work to become whole. This podcast is for you to hear more. Listen to deeply well with Debbie Brown from the Black Effect Podcast Network on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcast.

Find your local station for The Herd at Fox Sports Radio.com. or stream us live every day on the IHeart Radio app by searching Fox Sports Radio or FSR. You're listening to Fox Sports Radio. Fox Sports NFL reporter Peter Schrager from bestselling books to podcasts. He's in L.A. from time to time for doing that Sunday show, and he says, hey, I'll stop by. Busy guy, young family crushing it.
Starting point is 00:03:18 All right. So I said earlier, you and I both are fans of Cliff Kingsbury, and you know that. this, Shreggs very well, that some guys, you know, Cliff is not a Barker, but boy, when it comes to play, call and playing, play designing, quarterback development, it kind of feels, I don't know how
Starting point is 00:03:38 to explain, but I'm watching, but everything is working with the commanders. Not a fluke. This is, what is it? They've punted one time since week one. They've had 23 scoring drives this season. They've only had
Starting point is 00:03:54 19 in complete passes. They have a rookie quarterback who's completing 82% of his pass attempts, and he's not throwing two passes a game. He's throwing 30 passes a game. And I'll give you a little journey on Cliff. I've spent a lot of time with Cliff, especially the last two years since he got fired by the Cardinals. And remember, the Cardinals are paying the bulk of his salary still.
Starting point is 00:04:14 So they pay him, and every dollar he takes from Washington is offset from his Arizona contract. But last year, I'd fly out for Fox on Saturdays, and we would have the Fox kickoff show on Sundays. A lot of times I would get dinner with Cliff on Saturday nights in Los Angeles because USC would be done and we'd link up, whatever. And his situation at USC was so unique
Starting point is 00:04:36 in an disgusting NIL world and with everyone transferring. Cliff's deal with Lincoln Riley, who they know from Texas Tech Days, was you deal with the head coach and you deal with the recruiting duties and you deal with the NIL duties. All I want to do is work with Caleb Williams
Starting point is 00:04:52 and draw up plays and work with that offense and get in the lab. That's Cliff's happy place. And he didn't go into a single mother's living room and beg him, don't go to Penn State. We're going to pay you this amount of money. You didn't have to go with any of that. He just focused on a playbook and built this playbook,
Starting point is 00:05:07 and Caleb was wonderful. You go into this off season, the sliding doors factor here is insane. So I think if I was to call it early on in the process, Washington's number one guy was Ben Johnson, the offensive coordinator, to be their head coach. Ben Johnson pulls his name out and says, going back to Detroit. God bless him. He goes back to Detroit. They pivot. They go to Dan Quinn.
Starting point is 00:05:29 Cliff Kingsbury interviewed with the Chicago Bears for, I think, six hours out here in Marina del Rey. Yep, told about that. Yep. All right. Interviewed for the offensive coordinator job. He's like, I don't know, Iber flus, but I love Caleb, and we'll see what happens. The interview goes, goes fairly well. Cliff thinks he's got a shot. He never hears back from him. They basically tell him we're moving into other direction. They hire Iber flus. Interviews with Philly. He's like, Jailen Hertz. I would love to use this new playbook with Jailen Hertz. Awesome. didn't get offered the job.
Starting point is 00:05:55 Raiders, they agree to a job, but then they start talking about the numbers of the contract and the years on the contract, that falls apart. That's three NFL teams that had a chance to bring in Cliff with young quarterbacks. And liked him. And all liked him. And then Dan Quinn, the day the Raiders thing falls apart
Starting point is 00:06:09 is like, dude, should we roll this back? Should we do this? Should we make this happen? And Cliff got in the lab and was like, all right, let's look at these quarterbacks. Caleb's likely off the board. Remember, the bears didn't even meet with Jaden Daniels. Didn't even care to meet him. They said, we're taking him no matter what.
Starting point is 00:06:23 And then Cliff started building an offense that day built around Jaden Daniels' skill set before even meeting him. So they've been building this offense. Jaden gets in there and he comes in with 55 starts at the college level. Arizona State, then LSU. He has seen it all. Do you know who his number one wide receiver was, his freshman year at Arizona State? Brandon Ayyuk, who's like a five-year veteran. So he has played for a long time.
Starting point is 00:06:46 He came ready. And it's just a perfect match of new owner, new GM, new head coach, new offensive coordinator. and this amazing gift that fell in their laps at number two. And he's been outstanding. And it's the first time in my professional career. And I've been doing this since probably early 2000s, that there's genuine excitement around the Washington football team, Washington commanders in this case, not the Redskins.
Starting point is 00:07:08 And it's not with a yeah, but it's like, no, this is, everything is right. The crew they brought around him, they didn't just go and hire and sign some diva wide receiver. Like we like McLaren. We're going to bring in Bobby Wagner, maybe the best offensive leader. We're going to bring in Zach Ertz,
Starting point is 00:07:22 maybe the best offensive leader in the league. Oh, and then we're also going to have like Austin Echler and Marcus Marietta and Frankie Lou. What of all these guys have in common? They're great teammates and great dudes. And then you drop in Jaden Daniels and it's all working. So we're four weeks in, but I think there's not enough that can be said about all the different paths it took to get here. And it just has worked out beautifully. Great story.
Starting point is 00:07:44 Good storytelling there. I love that. Be sure to catch live editions of the herd weekdays in noon Eastern 9 a.m. Pacific on Fox Sports Radio, FS1 and the IHard Radio app. Imagine an Olympics where doping is not only legal, but encouraged. Agency, the ability to know that we're the experts in our own body. On the podcast, cultivating her space, Dr. Dom and Terry Lomax create a space
Starting point is 00:08:35 where black women can show up fully and be heard. I wholeheartedly think, you know, you hit 30. You shouldn't have to share one with anybody. Mm-hmm. From navigating friendships and healing to setting boundaries and prioritizing your mental health. These are real honest conversations. we don't always get to have out loud. Totally unreasonable with different parts of life, right?
Starting point is 00:08:57 Like, oh, have all three meals and make sure you're mindful during all of them? Absolutely not. During one meal, I'm standing. I'm standing and handing my children food. Because healing, empowerment, and resilience aren't just ideas. Their practices. And this Mental Health Awareness Month, there's no better time to pour back into yourself. Starting point is 00:09:43 From Kenya Barris, the visionary creator of Blackish, comes Big Age, an audible original about finding your way in Life's Next Chapter. This audio comedy series follows a retired couple's reluctant relocation to Sunset Gardens, a Floridian senior community that is anything but relaxing. Starring Comedy Legends Jennifer Lewis, Cedric the Entertainer, and Nisi Nashvettes. Through its blend of outrageous comedy, key party anyone, and touching revelations, Big Age explores what it means to grow older without growing old at heart.
Starting point is 00:10:15 Go to audible.com slash big age series to start listening today. Hey, I'm Jared Adano. You might know me as that loud guy who yells out, help on the internet. Help! Somebody! Please! But there's so much more to me than me. I'm an actor.
Starting point is 00:10:32 I'm a comedian. And recently, I've become quite the helper myself. And on my new podcast, Hope from a Hypocrite, I'll be changing lives, helping people in need with my sage advice and thoughtful solutions. Sike! I'm a comedian. I'm not qualified to give good advice. Join me and my comedian friends as we riff,
Starting point is 00:10:51 Grant recommends some of the most legally dubious advice known to man. If I'm calling you, even if you're on your phone, let it ring twice. One ring is too scary. Oh, cream a chicken suit. Hey, cream a chicken suit. This is Help from a Hypocrite, the worst advice from the dumbest people you know. Listen to Help from Hypocrite as part of the MyCultura podcast network available on the IHartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Hey, it's Edwin Castro, also known as Castro 1021.
Starting point is 00:11:26 And I'm Kunky, his best friend, and business manager. And we've got a new show called The 1021 podcast. I'm taking you behind the scenes on how I became one of Twitch's most popular streamers. We also love sports. And with the World Cup right around the corner, we'll be breaking down the biggest storylines ahead of the big tournament here in the USA. Listen to the 1021 podcast on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcast. or wherever you get your podcasts.
Starting point is 00:11:57 Kansas City is so strange. So all their games look the exact same. They've won 10 straight, 9 close. I said earlier they should teach crisis management. Somebody's always hurt. Somebody's traded. Their offensive line, they've rebuilt it twice. This isn't what dynasties look like.
Starting point is 00:12:14 They look like Kevin Durant and Steph. Alabama was Sabin. Every game's close. It's getting to be New England-ish, where you're like, I'm not even sure. they have as many good players as the Chargers. I always felt that with New England. I'm like, Ravens have better players.
Starting point is 00:12:30 What do we make? You were there yesterday. Now it's Rishi Rice. Cross your fingers because he'd really become a dude. What do you make of what you're watching? Well, I would be shocked if Rishiris is available this rest of the season. He's done. I think that was a real, you know, Andrea,
Starting point is 00:12:44 I don't want to play doctor on TV before their official results are in, but that's an ACL and he'll be out. So now you lose Hollywood Brown, who they never even got a chance to use, who's supposed to be their number one wide receiver. You lose Rishi Rice, who's the number two. You lose Isaiah Pacheco, who's their number one running back. And you look at it and you're saying, okay, and then they find a way.
Starting point is 00:13:02 And like yesterday at the game, Kareem Hunt wearing 29, you know, because 27 is now worn by Chamari Connor. And it's Kareem Hunt who hasn't played there for five years, but he comes back and he's gobbling up yards. They find a way. Samajai Piran gets let go by the Broncos. The chiefs bring him on. And they're like, all right, we'll make a way to work.
Starting point is 00:13:21 The hidden secret with this chief's team, A, they're deep. defense is outstanding. Really, really good. They were sending zero blitz the entire game and giving Justin Herbert hell yesterday. And the other secret is they replenish in the draft. So it's like Ligerius Sneed was a great Kansas City chief. Signed for a ton of money with the Titans. We have replacements ready because they've been training them for two years. So Jalen Watson can step up or Josh Williams or Chamari Connor. This is a real test though, Colin. I don't know if they have the horses. Like losing all these guys. Now Worthy does give them an over-the- top pop that he does yes but that is asking a lot out of an over the pop like now you're the number
Starting point is 00:14:00 one wide receiver he's not a volume guy hasn't been and that's a big ask and then kelsey looks like he's a step slower whether or not that's going to cause the ire of football fans everywhere i think it's fair to say he's not the same guy he was three years ago so then you start looking and at brett vich has never been scared to pick up the phone um he's a general manager and i think he's the best in the game and you know a couple years ago they thought they needed an extra something the Giants traded Cadarius, Tony, 60 cents on the dollar. He plays a big role in that Super Bowl
Starting point is 00:14:29 went over the Eagles. It doesn't work out after that. Did you just miss Schuster? They brought him over. It works. So some names that you'll hear over the next couple days, I'm sure. Oh, give me, give me. Yeah, let's go through them. I think you look at Amari Cooper making a lot of money in Cleveland. Like, do you not call up Andrew Barry and say, what would you be willing to?
Starting point is 00:14:45 I look at, I look at DeAndre Hopkins in Tennessee. I say that team's 0-and-3 tonight. They're playing Monday Night Football. Makes a ton of money, but is there something we can work? work out contract-wise. I said this and I got a lot of pushback. It doesn't come from the Rams guys, but I would call on Cooper Cup. I would see. I would call every team. I would call 31 teams. And I would say, all right, your team is not going to the Super Bowl this year. You're playing this amount of money. Rams could take picks. They want a quarterback eventually. Look, I love Cup and Stafford
Starting point is 00:15:15 loves Cup. And I know McVeigh loves Cup. So they're probably not going to trade Cup, but it doesn't hurt to call and see, okay, you're one in three. And Pooka's out for the next. four weeks and Cups got so what would it take to get this future Hall of Famer because I would assume every team picks up the phone and then you could say no we're good yeah um you go down the list on a lot of these names
Starting point is 00:15:35 and I think those Jaguars veteran riders like Christian Kirk like those types like yep pro total pro all these guys can help the chiefs how about a big swing like Devonte Adams I just don't think the Raiders would trade them in the division okay okay fair yep they know that's one of those like any other team yes and I think that's
Starting point is 00:15:51 that's going that during it but I think you would want to look to guys who are outside the division, and they don't have much money. They only have like $5 million in the salary cap, but if we've learned anything about the NFL in recent years, there's wiggle room, there's way to move money, and if there's veteran players who are making a lot, they can restructure their contracts to make those deals happen. So curious to see if Veach just sits tight and says, hey, we've gotten through rougher times before. How about this, though?
Starting point is 00:16:15 Or if they get aggressive. Let me say this. Travis Kelsey's aging. I do think they're in this tiny win. window where, like, you know, you'd say to yourself, well, you've got two trophies. But you know what? Like, as New England proved, they couldn't win with Randy Moss. Like, this drought, it's, I mean, the Ravens are young and going nowhere.
Starting point is 00:16:40 San Francisco, Detroit. Their windows are wide open. So I can see Kansas City saying, we got two in a row. We've got more. Andy Reed is now high 60s. No, why not? And also, Colin, since the. the invent of the Super Bowl in 1967, no franchise that are won three in a row.
Starting point is 00:16:58 If ever there was a team that you'd say, okay, you guys traded too much, but you'd give them the benefit of the doubt, it's the Chief's chasing history going three straight. So they're looking to go, I call it the Chief's Pete, but it's the three Pete. I just want Pat Riley to sue me. They're looking to win three in a row here. So if they gave up multiple first round picks and they mortgaged the future to bring in a star number one wide receiver or to bring in a stud number two wide receiver a keenan allen i'm just thinking of guys that are veterans that might not necessarily have a long runway with their current teams
Starting point is 00:17:28 i don't think any chief stand would spite them like now is the time yeah we're going for history we're trying to be the greatest team of all time yeah okay so for three years from now we don't have a backup left tackle okay let's go for it yeah all right so i thought this was a terrible spot for the broncos yep and a great spot for the jets star quarterback old offensive getting extra time to prepare at home. Like this team is O-Lines a little older, got a few extra days, here comes rookie Bo Nicks. And they're over-under was five wins.
Starting point is 00:18:01 I think they're better than that. And I'm looking up and 13 penalties for the Jets. But I will say this. The Broncos game plan was like seven in the box beat us. You know Sean Payton very well. I think that flight back to Denver was one of the best flights he's had. It's been so long since they've been back to Denver. They won in Tampa, which was a huge win.
Starting point is 00:18:26 And what Sean did in that game, and I spoke to him afterwards, was they won the coin toss. You never see teams receive anymore. He said, let's receive, and let's give Bo Nix the confidence in this Tampa game. First drive, we're giving you the ball goal right down the field, march down the field, score. They did. All right, you finally have your first big scoring drive, and they blew out the Buccaneers. Instead of flying back to Denver, they stayed on the East Coast. They say that the Greenbrier, which is this resort,
Starting point is 00:18:50 West Virginia. Well, they didn't realize Hurricane Helene was coming. So they run their entire Friday walkthrough in an indoor bubble that is not a football field is a hardcore tennis court. So they're running their offense on a tennis court with, you know, 53 guys in running sneakers doing their entire game plan. So Sean is just, you know, like, okay, but they were galvanized by this. They were all in this together.
Starting point is 00:19:15 Now they go into this horrendous weather. Friday night I saw a concert at Madison Square Garden. I'm not kidding. I knew Peyton was coming in and he used to work with us at Fox. Jelly Roll. I don't know if you're a fan. Jelly Roll should be doing the halftime show. That's my take.
Starting point is 00:19:27 Anyway, they call up, I call up Peyton. I'm like, is there any chance? I know it's a season. And he was like, Shrakes, are you out of your mind? He's like, I am knee deep in Jets footage and Vance Joseph is trying to stop this thing. Like, in my foolish head, I'm like, oh, maybe he can go out and go see a concert on a Friday night. That's not where his head was. Their head was, let's go take care of the jets and let's figure out a game plan.
Starting point is 00:19:49 Yes, all the penalties, but Vance Joseph's defense was outstanding. Yeah, it was. And they didn't ask Bo Nix to throw 35 times in the rain. They didn't ask Bo Nix to do anything he can. He threw the touchdown past the Cortland Sutton. That was enough. Jelly Roll was amazing. And so was Post Malone, who stepped up and did a song as well.
Starting point is 00:20:06 Yeah, yeah. Finally, one of my only good picks, I liked the Ravens last night. I thought they presented an offense that Buffalo hadn't seen yet. And I also think we all tend to watch Monday night football and fall in love with teams. It's just hard to win a standalone game on the road at night when you're facing Josh Allen and Lamar Jackson. But I will tell you about Lamar Jackson. For years and years, we were always like, decent backs Mark Andrews, decent back Mark Andrews. Mark Andrews now maybe the fourth option.
Starting point is 00:20:35 They have real weapons. Like, they may be the fastest team on the perimeter in the league. if Kansas City's defense is the fastest the fastest offense may be Baltimore I don't know I know we worried J-Mack and I talked about O-Line are they better than last year potentially they might be in fact
Starting point is 00:20:53 I was very concerned about the O-Line they lost three veteran starters and Morgan Moses and Falae and Zitler and it was like all right or not Falae I'm sorry so they lost Morgan Moses they lost Zitler and then they lost John Simpson to the Jets and they bring in three other guys to
Starting point is 00:21:10 start and you're like, I don't know, we'll see. And then that first week against the Chiefs, it was like, yep, their offensive line is issues. And oh, a 32-year-old defensive coordinator, Zach Orr is not Mike McDonald, who's now the head coach. And it's already week four, and it's like they might be better. They might be better on the offensive line. They're younger. I mean, last night there were
Starting point is 00:21:26 huge holes. Huge holes. In Buffalo, we respect their defensive person in coaching. And guess what? For as good as likely, and Andrews are catching the ball, they block their asses off. And then you got Pat Ricard in there, just polling guys. So Henry was a very interesting signing.
Starting point is 00:21:43 Around the league, all people raised their eyebrows. Derek Henry, 30-year-old Derek Henry. Enjoy that. We've seen Emmett Smith in a Cardinals jersey. We've seen Marciaun Lynch in a Raiders jersey. We've seen Adrian Peterson in a Saints jersey. Enjoy that. Derek Henry looks fast.
Starting point is 00:21:58 He looks stronger. He looks thinner. He looks happier. He's got 480 yards through 4 games. It's the most, I think, anyone's had through 4 games since Stephen Davis, who did it with the Panthers. like, 03. And they are suddenly jelling.
Starting point is 00:22:13 And it only took a couple weeks to get all these new guys involved. And yeah, a 32-year-old defensive coordinator. I've never seen Josh Allen have fits like that last night. He had 42 yards passing in the first half. That was it. They came in averaging 37 points a game. So I know a lot of people are out here this morning, and they're saying, okay, you know, Ravens,
Starting point is 00:22:31 that's the Super Bowl team of the best team of football. I say slow down. Like, let's see. But that version of the Ravens that we saw last night, no one's beating them. but that version is not what's shown up in January the past few years. And I'm fully aware that the Ravens have a tendency of in big games in the playoffs. They turn into turtles and they go into their shell and they run the ball eight times like last year.
Starting point is 00:22:52 Yeah. You know, it's funny, though, and we do this all the time. I mean, Dan Marino, Charles Barkley, Karl Malone, great players don't always win titles. And sometimes it's because, like Phil Mickelson, if there's no Tiger Woods, he's got seven more majors. No doubt. And it's, and let me defend Lamar. So in the last calendar year, they have crushed the bills, the Bengals, the Seahawks, the Texans twice, the 49ers, the Lions. He is a great big game player, those damn chiefs.
Starting point is 00:23:18 I mean, it kind of feel, and I also did not like the game plan at all in that AFC. They abandoned the run. I didn't get it. But I'll tell you this. I don't know if there's a quarterback, maybe Baham's, but I always feel like Andy Reid's part of their soul. Lamar's the soul. Like you can just tell the way Harbaugh talks. It's like the city loves him.
Starting point is 00:23:41 It's just a really cool relationship. He's the man. He is it. He's the man. And if it wasn't Mahomes, he'd be the face of the league in a million ways because he's everything that's right about the league. Work ethic, passion. Soft-spoken, not look at me.
Starting point is 00:23:53 Look at me. This idea that he can't pass in the pocket. Dude is a good pocket passer. He's a two-time MVP. The guy's amazing. Yeah. We need to see it when it matters in January. One quick story.
Starting point is 00:24:04 So, listen, I love. love Donald, and then Carolina and the Jets have ruined a lot of guys. Yeah. And then he goes to San Francisco. And, you know, obviously, Kevin O'Connell, LaFleur, McVeigh, Kyle, they all talk. And it is interesting, because I always thought Donald could be a bit reckless. He had a Carson Wentz DNA. But I did think he was good guy, tough, athletic, move well.
Starting point is 00:24:31 The stories you hear now is the San Francisco experience. changed him. What do we know about that? Sit back, learn from maybe the best. Did Kevin O'Connell call Kyle and just... There was a rat race to get... I always say this. There's no player in football that has a bigger delta
Starting point is 00:24:50 between what coaches and NFL people think of him than what most in the media. I know you've been a fan. Most of the media think he's a scrub and a bus. Coaches still believe in Sam Darnold, and I will tell you that Washington was very hot for Sam Donald. Adam Peters, who's the great GM of the commanders, came from San Francisco, knew
Starting point is 00:25:09 what he had, and then it was kind of a bidding war, and he chose Minnesota, and thank God he did, because he's an opportunity to play, and he's getting to revitalize his career. So the league, though? The league knows. He's younger than Joe Burrow. I think he's the same age, if not a month older than Lamar Jackson.
Starting point is 00:25:24 Yeah, he and Lamar are both really young. You're talking about a guy that is 26 years old and has the future ahead of him, and just needed the right support system. In San Francisco, he was able to press pause, take a foot off the pedal, sit back, learn, have a second to just breathe, and then he gets put in this amazing situation with an offensive head coach in Kevin O'Connell, who has just nurtured and encouraged him.
Starting point is 00:25:47 I'll tell you this, they drafted J.J. McCarthy, but to a man, anyone I spoke to in Minnesota was like that's Sam Darnold's team this year to start, and we'll see what happens, but it was never like a quarterback competition in Minnesota. It's not like he signed for $2 million here, real money. and they were committed to giving him the first opportunity and the first crack at it and he's run away with it. He's been unbelievable.

Starting point is 00:31:14 Sunday, it's a huge day of football on Fox. At one Eastern, the Browns take on rookie sensation, Jaden Daniels, and the commanders. Or at four, Kyler Murray and the... Cardinals take on Brock Purdy and the Niners. Check for the game in your area only on Fox and the Fox Sports. Well, the Browns Commanders, I just want to keep watching because I keep thinking this has to, and like there are two teams right now that we can't believe. Washington and Minnesota.
Starting point is 00:31:41 I buy in in Minnesota. I like Washington, but the offensive numbers are ridiculous. Like you can't complete 82% of your throws. Yeah, more, they literally have, what do they have, more score. driving drives through four games, then incompletions. You know something insane, yeah. That's interim. That doesn't work that way.
Starting point is 00:32:03 J. Mack with the news. No, no, no, no, no. Turn on the news. This is the herd line news. Let's start with their opponent, DeShon Watson, and the Browns, that offense was pretty ghastly against the Raiders. They took a 10-0 lead that went in the tank, and Deshawn Watson got a little bit upset with one of his
Starting point is 00:32:23 offensive linemen, backup tackle to Juan Jones. Kind of got yelled at by Watson, and then he goes to the sideline, and it got a little ugly. I don't know if we had the video of that, but James Winston stepped in. It was kind of a mess. However, Deshaun Watson said afterward that it was all a miscommunication. It was trying to be great. That's it. We all just got to get on the same page so we can execute and try to win and be explosive.
Starting point is 00:32:49 And we just got to execute. And, you know, we all got to be on the same page to make those big plays. Yeah, this thing's cooked. Here it is, here it is where he's yelling at Jones. And he's like, come on, man. That's allowed. If you're the quarterback and you're the franchise guy, you can do that. Tom Brady yelled at his guys for years.
Starting point is 00:33:06 Like, this is just a thing that happens in football. The vets and the leaders, they, you know, bark out instructions to guys. I don't want to overblow things, but I just think. What's up with the Mari Cooper rule? Can I ask? My life. I think he leads the league in drops. Do you see that right off his shoulder pads intercepted?
Starting point is 00:33:24 He catches an 82-yard touchdown. kind of comes back because of a holding on the offensive line. I think they're down to four starters on the offensive line are out injured now. Yeah. Like, it just stinks for Stefan's guy. I feel bad for the guy. No, I think, I feel like this is a company with good employees, but I just don't trust the franchise. I just don't, I don't, you know, desperate franchises do desperate things.
Starting point is 00:33:48 They are locked into this for a long time. Good luck. And that, that, and I, Deshawn Watson, I understand you look. look at him with this roster when it's healthy. But there are one or two, three quarterbacks in my life. I'd give a fully guaranteed contract to. You know, Brady and his prime, Mahomes, Maureno in his prime. But that was just, that's a desperate business doing a desperate business thing.
Starting point is 00:34:12 I'll stick in the division and go to another quarterback, Joe Burrow. She's not a big pregame speech guy. But when the Bengals were 0 and 3 heading into Carolina, Cincinnati players credited Burroughs pregame speech. and leadership as one of the reasons they were able to finally get their first win. Here's Burrow on his pregame message. Just felt like I had something to say. I'm not going to go out of my way and be somebody that I'm not, but when I have something to say,
Starting point is 00:34:41 I'll definitely step up and say it. There was really no other option other than to figure out a way to win this game, so we got it done. There's still a lot of room to improve. Yeah, they just don't have enough playmakers defensively. They have one great rush end. this is not going to end well. They've got their money on the right side, but they moved off guys in the secondary, and you can see it.
Starting point is 00:35:02 I mean, Mahomes has a great defense. You know, you look around, like Josh Allen has a trustworthy defense. Baltimore's defense always has dudes. Joe Burrow is working with one-edge rusher. I mean, they just don't have enough good players. T. Higgins back looking good. That helps. And then the kid, Chase Brown, who was stashed on my fantasy bench,
Starting point is 00:35:19 looked awesome yesterday. Dynamic. I couldn't tell if it was the Panthers or Brown. He's got some pop and some juice. and him and Zach Moss had a good game on the ground. The Bengals' offense can hang with, it seems like just about anybody. They will be a spoiler. There's no question.
Starting point is 00:35:33 They're going to go beat like three teams from this point forward. They're going to be a pain in the butt. And I think the chargers, when healthy, we'll do the exact same. But I just, you know, I mean, you look at the schedule. There's some definite wins there if they ramp it up. So let me ask you this. So Captain Lou, the defensive coordinator, has looked bad the last two weeks. Carolina moved football.
Starting point is 00:35:55 Washington moved football. Those are non-divisional matchups. We saw what a matchup against the Chiefs, who they know well, they played well defensively against the Chiefs. Do you think the good defense shows up against the Ravens this week, familiarity? Or does the Ravens just say, hey, we're going to go ham and score 35 points on them? Well, I like the idea of hosting the Ravens on a short week, not a short week, hosting the Ravens off their biggest win of the year where they looked unbeatable.
Starting point is 00:36:23 So that's kind of an edge. Teams, even in pro football, teams don't give you that kind of performance, except Washington week after week. So my take is, not that Baltimore is vulnerable, but when you play flawless football, it's hard to duplicate that. But if you start looking at the schedule
Starting point is 00:36:41 after the Ravens game, this is why it's hard to just say, totally dumps in tonight. Boy, there's a lot of anemic offenses. Giant, Cleveland, Philly right now. Philly's going to be healthy by. then, though, with their guys. But I mean, Pittsburgh, Tennessee, Denver, there's a lot of average offenses where they can just drop 24 and win. I know people don't want to hear it. I'm just telling
Starting point is 00:37:03 you, AFC's wide open. This Chiefs situation is a real thing. And I know people, oh, they got my homes and Reed. They're fine. I'm not buying it. I'm not seeing it from the Chiefs. And the Bengals are one of those teams, keep an eye on. Final story, Colin, oh boy, Jacksonville, Jags. They can't get out of their own way right now. They had a fourth quarter lead, then to let the Texans come from behind to beat him on a late C.J. Stroud touchdown pass. And now Trevor Lawrence, he's lost nine straight games, Colin. Nine. I know it. Doug Peterson was asked about taking over play calling duties from Press Taylor, the OC. Here's what Peterson said in response. Coaches, we can't make, we can't go out there and make the plays, right? It's a two-way street.
Starting point is 00:37:42 So, you know, you guys can sit here and point the finger all you want, and that's fine, point it right at me. I can take it. If it's not working, if it's not in rhythm, whether it's your plays were not a new head off if I call it. Yeah, sure. Okay, I'll take it into consideration. Oh, boy. Yeah, I think there's a lot of... There's a lot of blame to go around, but my takeaway on Jacksonville, they look too loose. They just look like a loose team.
Starting point is 00:38:10 They're just not buttoned up. Blame whoever you want. I don't know. I didn't. I wasn't locked in on this game, but I noticed E.T.N. wasn't getting carries. Tank Bigsby. They're, like, pivoting to him as the running back. I don't know what's up with that, but just some weird things going on in Jacksonville.
Starting point is 00:38:28 I don't know that they can fix this, Colin. It feels like season probably over at 0 and 4, but that division is very suspect. Again, a team that could be a spoiler. They could, 8 and 9 might win that division. The Texans. No, Texans, they'll get Joe Mixing back. They just did, listen, they needed a running game last year. They go out and get Joe Mixing.
Starting point is 00:38:50 They look great. Mixing gets hurt. It's the same team. C.J. Stroud's still a kid. You've got to give the – Caleb Williams this weekend with a run game. Oh, you're like cable's pretty good. I mean, Washington, part of their success is their run games working. You can't bring a rookie quarterback or a second-year guy with no run game.
Starting point is 00:39:07 You've got to have some support. Caleb finally looked like pretty good. And so I just think C.J. Stroud's still in that space where second and four and third and two, it helps. So Bill Belichick's coaching this team by Thanksgiving. right? Jacksonville? I mean, it's Jacksonville. The owner's rich. They got money. It's just... Don't make a splash. Make people forget about the Doug Peterson era. Bringing Bill Belichick. I think everybody should be going after Belichick right now. The league seems to be moving away from this offense passing to, hey, can you stop anybody? Can you run the football? Like Belichick,
Starting point is 00:39:46 I'm kind of in on Bill Belichick. You know, he's got a couple of Super Bowl games. Well, I mean, Belichick and Jacksonville be good for us. It's good content. Otherwise, you don't talk Jacksonville. But I would keep your eye. I mean, does the owner want to be paying Urban Meyer and Doug Peterson and Balli-check? I could see Philadelphia is not paying Siriani a lot. Do billionaires care about stuff like that? I think they don't want to pay three coaches at the same time. Not even billionaires. They got to be billionaires for a reason. It wasn't overpaying on everything. Wasn't overpaying on coaches. J. Mack with the news. Well, that's the news. And thanks for stopping by. The Hurd-Lie News. Good stuff today.
Starting point is 00:40:23 Matt Hasselbeck stopped by. Peter Schrager had all sorts of stories. It's crazy. It has been an incredible year for underdogs. If I said to you, what are the three big headlines of the league? The first big headline is, oh my God, Minnesota. I mean, that's the first big one. The Vikings look like the best team in the league.
Starting point is 00:40:44 I think the second one is, is Jaden Daniels, the greatest rookie quarterback in the history of the league. It looks like it. What's your third headline? And Philadelphia, tire fire. I don't know about that. Whoa, whoa, whoa. A certain team that's won the Super Bowl twice in a row is getting beset by injuries,
Starting point is 00:41:04 yet they're still 4-0 and their fans think, oh, we got this. Yeah, but they're still good. Philadelphia. You thought that was a good performance against a Chargers team? By the way, all this, Travis Kelsey's back. Derwin James, who's the Travis Kelsey stopper, did not play. Yeah, he never plays. These are all the time.
Starting point is 00:41:21 I like him, but he's hurt a lot. So is Bosa. Both were out. AFC's wide open, coward. Why? I don't think it's as wide open as you want. Another podcast from some SNL late-night comedy guy, not quite. Unhumor me with Robert Smygel and friends.
