This is an I-Heart podcast.
Guaranteed Human.
Another podcast from some SNL, late-night comedy guy, not quite.
Unhumor me with Robert Smygel and friends.
Me and hilarious guests from Bob Odenkirk to David Letterman
help make you funnier.
This week, my guest, SNL's Mikey Day and head writer, Streeter Seidel,
help an a cappella band with their between songs banter.
Where does your group perform?
We do some retirement homes.
Those people are starving for banter.
Listen to humor me with Robert Smigel
and friends on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts.
Imagine an Olympics where doping is not only legal, but encouraged.
It's the enhanced games.
Some call it grotesque.
Others say it's unleashing human potential.
Either way, the podcast's Superhuman documented it all, embedded in the games and with the athletes
for a full year.
Within probably 10 days, I'd put on 10 pounds.
I was having trouble stopping the muscle growth.

Hey, this is Robert from the Stuff to Blow Your Mind podcast.

On the Look Back at it podcast.
From 1979, that was a big moment for me.
84 was big to me.
I'm Sam Jay.
And I'm Alex English.
Each episode, we pick a year, unpack what went down,
and try to make sense of how we survived it.
With our friends, fellow comedians, and favorite authors.
Like Mark Lamont Hill on the 80s.
84 was a wild year.
It was a wild year.
I don't think there's a more important year for black.

so I was just reading this story
hold on
I'm going to like this guy
okay
so
leagues
Joy Taylor joining me
so leagues are petrified of tanking
we know this
yes I mean NBA
ping pong ball lottery all this stuff
and if you want a tank you can tank
if you don't want to start people you don't have to start people
we all know this
that you know
if teams can start who they want to start
period. And so if you want to get a good pick, you can get a good pick. So a prime example of this
is Baker Mayfield's obviously one of the, to me, the 32 best quarterbacks in football. He's
probably about 25th, 26, whatever. I don't like him as much as everybody else, but Baker's,
Baker can play. And got him to a playoff, want a playoff game. Now, he's not going to elevate you.
He needs people around him, but so does Dak. So does Kirk Cousins. Some guys can elevate,
some guys can elevate others, some need to be elevated.
But a prime example is sometimes in business, you need a write-off.
If you own 10 businesses and, you know, you're going to have a big tax bill if everybody's rolling.
Sometimes a business is like struggling.
Let it tank and it saves you tax dollars, right?
We all know that.
But like a prime example is Baker is obviously way better than Gino Smith and way better than Drew Locke and it ain't close.
but why in the world would Seattle bring in Baker Mayfield?
They don't want to win games.
Now, they're not going to advertise it, but Pete Carroll's got a long contract.
So does John Snyder.
So if you fire him, you owe a big check.
You're not going to do that, especially they're going through a potential ownership change.
We don't know.
But a prime example is if you look at Seattle, there are, there's going to be six teams in the NFL that are, the chances of them being good are very rare.
Seattle, Atlanta, Giants, Jets, Houston, Carolina.
Either the division's tough.
They're not ready.
Five of those six, the Jets are not going to bail on their quarterback.
He's too talented.
I was talking to Mike Vrable about this the other day off the air.
The kid, Zach Wilson's too talented to bail on.
But Seattle needs a quarterback.
Atlanta does.
The Giants will go get one.
Houston, I think they'll get one, and Carolina will.
So, and Seattle knows this.
They know that, you know, you can look around the NFL.
You know Seattle, that roster is not good enough.
They're in a rebuild.
They lost Russell.
They don't have the quarterback play.
So here's a prime example of it's not always in life the best get the job or the
Baker's better than a lot of guys starting.
But it's a great college quarterback draft next year.
I shouldn't say great.
It's plentiful.
There's a kid at Kentucky that I think is as good as anybody.
C.J. Strout at Ohio State, Bryce Young at Alabama.
Miami's got a kid that's pretty interesting.
the over-under on quarterbacks taken next year in the first round is six.
Now, we know half won't be good.
Two or three of them look really interesting.
Well, Seattle knows.
I mean, Atlanta's telling you right now.
We're bringing Marcus Mariotin.
We're bringing a backup in.
So Atlanta wants a new quarterback.
They moved off Matt Ryan.
Seattle wants a new quarterback.
The Giants, the Mara family wants to see if Brian Dayball can elevate Daniel Jones.
I think they earnestly, genuinely do.
I don't think he will.
Houston, Mills may work, may.
Carolina just, their owner wants a new quarterback.
So it's just, it's funny about this stuff, is that the Baker Mayfield,
because there's a lot of rumors out today, this team wants him, this team wants them,
Carolina wants them, Seattle wants them.
Ask yourself, if you ran Seattle, why would you want him?
You want one of those quarterback.
Even if you got Baker, do you really look in that division and think,
McVeigh Stafford, Kyler Murray,
You don't think Baker's that.
Nobody thinks Baker's Matt Stafford.
Nobody thinks he's Kyler Murray as an athlete.
So what you want to do is get like a Bryce Young who can really ball.
Or C.J. Stroud, who, I mean, there are times he's like, wow.
There's a lot of wow there.
Not a lot of wow with Baker, some, but not a lot.
So I don't know.
I just, when I hear all these stories on Baker Mayfield, yes, he would be the starter in Seattle.
Yes, he'd probably be the starter in three or four of these places.
Atlanta.
Of course he would start in Atlanta.
But there's a bigger picture here.
The way to tank in the NFL is we're not going to acquire this quarterback.
And then you can play hard, you can sell it to the team.
But Seattle is absolutely going to win significantly more games with Baker Mayfield.
And so would Atlanta?
They would both win more games with Baker.
They would win more, but I don't think they would win significantly more.
Because Baker can't elevate a bad roster.
We have evidence of this in Cleveland.
Yeah, no, no.
So he's not a good locker room guy.
He's not a good leader.
And he's disruptive, and he can't elevate a bad roster.
So you're risking, really losing the locker room because he's not a guy that keeps the locker room together.
You know that.
He's not going to win significantly more games.
He'd win just enough games to get you out of the quarterback space.
So it's not a guy that's going to come in and elevate you because he's not a math stafford.
He's not a Kyler Murray.
He's not a guy that's going to come in and win.
you enough games that you would be competitive that it would be worth bringing him in.
He would be just good enough to win maybe two more games than what you have, which would be
just enough to get you out of the quarterback market for next year's draft.
So there's absolutely no point whatsoever.
Yeah.
There's no value to that.
Sometimes, sometimes, this sounds weird, but sometimes you're just a little too talented to be good for us.
Yeah.
That's exactly what the situation is.
Baker is better than all of those options for sure, which is why they keep getting linked together.
But what is the value of this?
You're going to get me just good enough to be out of the space I want to be in next year.
It's interesting.
So I just read this morning during the break, I read us Seattle and Carolina's interested.
They started mentioning all these teams and I'm like Atlanta and I'm like, if I run those teams, I want the quarterbacks in next year's draft.
And Seattle's been so successful for so long.
They have equity with fans.
Nobody's selling their season tickets for the Seahawks if they're two and 15.
Well, also, you just, you have downturns as organizations.
You have down years.
San Francisco was able to get Trey Lance because they put the pieces together,
but they were at the top of the drafts for a year because everyone got injured.
Seasons are ups and downs.
You have to ride the wave of it.
And Seattle's in a complete rebuild as well.
It's not like they're in a win now situation and they're just a quarterback away.
So here's another theme that has to do with USC,
which is I'm kind of wearing one of their colors today after they got Jordan Addis and the great
Blitnikoff receiver.
They got the best coach transfer, the best quarterback transfer, the best wide receiver transfer.
And it's a funny thing that you and I have talked about this a lot about we live in a post-truth
society.
Like it used to be if you and I were at a lounge or a sports bar and we're having a beer
and you were arguing something and I presented information to you, factual,
I won the argument.
And that'd be okay.
We'd be like, you know, clink our glasses.
But we live in a society now where I can give you information.
And you're like, no, on the Reddit board, the dollar is dead, Bitcoin.
So we've come to a point where I can present the truth to you.
And fans are so embedded in their like Reddit boards and weirdo and bots on the internet.
So Lincoln Riley is a great coach in a sport that is moving.
offensive. Nick Saban has acknowledged you can't win with defense anymore. Nick Saban acknowledges
that. You have to be able to score. Bama used to be a linebacker corner defensive line program.
Now it's a quarterback wide receiver program. Lincoln Riley is first or second best offensive
coach in the sport. He is entering the weakest conference in college football with the traditional
power in the conference in the most recruiting heavy area. He gets the best, right now USC has done
better than any program in the country in the transfer portal.
They got the best quarterback, the best receiver.
They've literally changed their roster.
Folks, you do get this is going to work.
Like really fast.
I'll give you an example.
I'm going to put four programs up there.
Once you get a great coach at a traditional power in college football,
Stoops, Urban, Nick, and Harbaugh.
By year two, they went from awful to really good.
That was year one in the program.
By year two, they're competing for outside of Harbaugh national championships.
There's the proof.
We've seen it.
And those guys stooped at Oklahoma, urban at Florida, Nick at Bamma, Jim Harbaugh,
they didn't have the transfer portal.
They didn't have the NIL to buy players.
You do get Lincoln's going to work.
Like, stop being stubborn.
Get off your like loser fan board.
Lincoln Riley's going to work at USC.
Now, there's things you can push back on, Willingwood, a national championship at USC.
I don't know.
I mean, listen, Ohio State's not going anywhere.
Clemson, Bama, Georgia, Brian Kelly at LSU, Sark, Texas, Oklahoma.
I'm not making any guarantees.
But this is going to be a top five program within 18 months.
And he's the best offensive coach.
My GMs think, they call him McVeigh of college football.
Caleb Williams is going to be the first pick in the draft when he's available.
They've got a huge brand west of the Mississippi.
It's arguably the biggest college football.
football brand. Notre Dame is the biggest independent. It's the biggest West Coast brand.
And they are just loading up. Their receiving core now has got pros. So like, like it's weird we
live in a society where people, you can present stuff that's obvious. Hell, Harbaugh in a year
turned around Michigan with no transfer portal. Like, are you telling me like Lincoln Riley is
not a good coach? He won 11 games a year at Oklahoma. You know, you know, he lost to LSU,
Georgia, Bama. Those are pretty good programs.
But it's weird. We live in a different time. So they went and got Jordan Addison yesterday.
He's a great player. And Caleb's a great player. They're not going to win a national championship
next year. It's a lobsided team. It's all offense, no defense. They don't have enough
NFL pros like an Ohio State or Clemson, Bama, George, on the defensive side.
But it is, you and I, Joy, now have, it used to be, here's facts. This is going to work.
Not a single NFL person I talked to thinks Lincoln Riley is going to fail.
They think he's going to work faster than I do.
They're like, yeah, next year they'll win 10 games.
I'm like, I don't know, Utah, Oregon.
I don't know.
They're not going to beat Notre Dame.
But call integrity.
Integrity?
Integrity.
Oklahoma had Barry Switzer.
Let's slow down on that.
I like Barry, but come on.
Stop preaching integrity.
Can't mess with the college football gods.
Integrity.
I told you, Herd Burger.
I need to get in that whole NIA.
I don't know what you're waiting for.
Yeah, because, I mean, I would just get ripped by the media, but that's the most fun.
What do you mean?
Oh, they'd say, coward, you're a journalist.
You're right.
Would you're not, I mean, respectfully.
Yeah, no, yeah.
Yeah, I am not a journalist.
We talk.
We do journalistic things.
We have sources, yeah.
Jokes aside, I really do.
I hold journalists in a different light.
Like, we need real true journalists and society.
Bruce Feldman's a journalist.
You need journalists to tell the story.
I bumped into it.
I bumped into the media,
but like there are journalists going to the front of war
to bring us stories and that we're not doing that.
Look at my color scheme today.
Have you noticed it?
Yeah.
It really looks good.
Be sure to catch live editions of the herd weekdays in noon Eastern, 9 a.m. Pacific.

Do you remember when Diana Ross double-tapped Little Kim's boobs at the VMAs?
Or when Kanye said that George Bush didn't like black people.
I know what you're thinking.
What the hell does George Bush got to do with a little Kim?
Well, you can find out on the Look Back at it podcast.
I'm Sam J.
And I'm Alex English.
Each episode, we pick it here, unpack what went down, and try to make sense of how we survived it.
Including a recent episode with Mark Lamont Hill, waxing all about crack in the 80s.
To be clear, 84 is big to me, not just because of crack.
I'm down to talk about crack on day, but just so you all know.
I mean, at this point, Mark, this is the second episode where we've discussed.
Correct. So I'm starting to see that there's a through line.
We also have AIDS on the table right now.
Thank you finishing that sentence.
Yes. I don't think there's a more important year for black people.
Really?
Yeah. For me, it's one of the most important years for black people in American history.

I thought it was interesting.
Do we have that Tom Clement bite?
It is, you know, we all work with people that
they tell you they work hard, but they don't really work hard.
You know, they're like committed, but they think committed is like 45 hours a week.
And then there's people who are like, you know, you saw the Michael Jordan documentary.
You've heard about like Kobe, LeBron, Russell Wilson.
And they just work harder.
And it's, I mean, everybody.
They're legendary stories.
I'm not saying Aaron Rogers doesn't work hard, but it's not Breeze, Brady, Manning, Russell, LeBron.
It's not like that level.
It's not obsessed.
He's not obsessed with football.
I have an interesting connection through him.
And he's not a film junkie.
Big Ben wasn't a film junkie.
Some guys are, some guys are.
Aaron's not a film junkie.
He's not going to work out all off season with wide receivers.
And that's just the reality of it.
You know, he's getting toward the end.
He's not, Aaron's got a big broad life beyond football.
He loves it, but he's not.
obsessed by it and that doesn't make him a bad guy. But I saw this quote by his new quarterback coach,
Tom Clements. Aaron doesn't need reps at this time of the year. So I mean, it's obviously
it'd be nice to have him here, but he's, he's seen these things a thousand times. And he'll be
ready to go when training camp starts. She's just, you know, it's at a different stage of his career
now where he's taking care of himself in the, uh, in the, uh, he's in the, uh,
working on what he thinks he needs to work on physically.
Okay, I would maybe believe that if he hadn't lost Devante Adams,
if he was really good at building relationships with young receivers.
He's not.
We've got a resume.
So that's one of those.
You can say that.
I don't buy that.
So Brady, with star receivers in Tampa, Mike Evans, Chris Godwin,
like was a Jesuit high school during a pandemic getting work in.
So the idea, like, as you get older, you don't need reps,
I just don't believe that.
If you're a journalist, you can be in your first year or your 30th.
You've got to do the prep.
You've got to do the groundwork to get the story.
Like this idea you can just show up, I'm talented.
That's been the knock on Aaron.
He is talented.
He doesn't obsess over it.
And it's why post-snap or pre-snap, I've never thought he's as good as Breeze,
Manning, Russell, or Brady.
They put more time in on the film.
They can identify things before they happen.
But this idea that, yeah, it's a little.
make it work. He's got trust issues. We've seen it with his family, with his teammates. I mean,
we saw against the Niners, they had one scoring drive. None off script. The first scripted drive,
which is generally you script some plays, they scored. Never had another touchdown drive.
It was a, you'd think losing Devonte and the disaster that was their playoff game,
you'd think, just for aesthetically, you'd be like, I'm going to show up. I don't know. I just sometimes people
say stuff, and I don't think they really believe it. I think they say it. They don't really believe it.
Kareem Jackson, 13th year in the NFL, has re-signed with Denver, and he is joining us.
By the way, you had options. Denver is my favorite. I think you're going to win the division.
I think you're going to be really good. I think the defensive front, Russell Wilson,
why did you decide Kareem to resign with him?
I felt like, you know, just the core group that we had, you know, just the guys in the locker room.
I like, you know, all the moves that we made in the all season.
Obviously, adding Russell was a huge move for us, you know, and a couple other guys, adding Randy and, you know, and DJ from St. Fran.
So I think we made some huge moves that's definitely going to, you know, boost us and put us where we need to be, you know, in the AFC West.
So just looking forward to the season.
And so for me, that was a no-brainer for me to sign back.
Kareem, what was your first reaction?
I don't know where you learned that Russell Wilson was a Bronco,
but what was the minute you learned, what was your reaction?
I immediately text Coach Hackett, and this was before I signed back.
I texted, and I said, that's a huge piece.
You know, so after that, you know, it's just exciting.
And just kind of sitting around and seeing what was going to happen with me,
but I kind of knew in the back of my mind that I was always going to sign back.
to our Denver. When Russell signed, has it changed the temperature in the room, the mood on the team?
Like, what does Russell Wilson do to you and teammates, the feeling?
It's changed everything in the building, the energy from everyone, you know, the staff and the
cafeteria, you know, just everybody, you know, the locker room is different, so upbeat,
you know, in the locker room from everybody, you know, obviously the offensive guys are
definitely excited about it, but, I mean, anytime you can add a, a,
a quarterback like that, a guy that's seen it all.
You know, he's played in the big game.
He's won the big game.
So just his leadership and everything that he brings on and off the field.
You know, it just changes everything about your culture, your locker room and everything else.
So Tyreek Hill, Kareem, I don't know if you know this.
He's no longer in the division.
Was that a good day for you?
Definitely.
Definitely.
I mean, obviously, you definitely love competing against a guy like that because he's going to bring the best out of you.
but I mean, him and that offense in Kansas City, you know, those guys were lethal and his elite speed, you know.
But seeing him go to Miami, I definitely wasn't sad at all.
You know, I definitely wished him the best, but I'm happy he's not in there.
I don't have to see him twice a year anymore.
So Nathaniel Hackett, a lot of times teams hire coordinators.
We don't know how they're going to be.
We don't know.
Now, people like him.
He's on the offensive side of the ball, which is the league.
It's kind of pivoting now to a more offensive league.
What can you tell me about Nathaniel Hackett?
I don't know him other than what I see at press conferences and practice video.
Right.
He brings a ton of energy and everything that he does.
He's all about competing.
You know, he's implemented, you know, something different when it comes to, you know,
team and competing, everything we do with competing.
We have little goals in the team meeting room.
And he start off each meeting, you know, where they pick a guy out of the,
you know, from offensive defense, and it's all about competing.
So we shoot for, you know, to see who's going to win.
It's just all about, you know, competing and energy and being a complete pro.
And, you know, that's what he preaches day and a day out.
You know, and we definitely love that about them.
You know, having your coaching and bringing that energy day in a day out,
you look forward to going in and, you know, and putting in that work with him.
You got some, I mean, they went and got the Oklahoma pass rusher,
the kid from San Francisco, Randy Gregory, Russell Wilson.
Patrick Sartan was a great pickup last.
He had a very good draft last year.
Kareem, I look at this Broncos roster.
Javante Williams is a great find.
Your receiver.
I don't see a hole.
You have a young safety, I love.
Is this as talented a team as you played for?
I'll say it's definitely right up there with one of the best teams that I've,
when it comes to talent, definitely.
I think that last year I was in Houston, I think we was pretty talented.
But this team is definitely right up there with the top team.
Like you say, we got a ton of talent, a ton of young talent at that.
On both sides of the ball, you know, on paper, like you said, there's definitely no holes.
It's just up to us to go out and, you know, put the work in, day in and day out to be able to go out on Sundays and be successful.
So Nick Saban, you went to Alabama.
You were a first-round pick.
If I recall, you were the 20th pick in the draft to the Houston Texans, if I recall, you played there for a few years.
And then it was Denver.
nine years in Houston.
So Saban's complaining a lot about this NIL.
What do you make of that?
I mean, listen, I'm for paying the players.
What do you make of that?
Yeah, definitely.
I wish it was around when I was in school.
I mean, things changed.
You know, it's not going to always be what it was.
You know, I guess he's used to, obviously, getting all the players and beating some of these schools out.
but now these schools find another way to get some of the top guys around the country.
But that's what it's about.
You know, things change, things evolve.
So, I mean, I'm off for these guys making whatever money that they make.
It's tough on that college campus with no job.
You know, and even if you want to get off campus and go somewhere nice to eat, you can't
because, you know, you guys weren't making any money, but not all that changes.
So, I mean, it's great for those guys.
So when you were at Alabama and you were a great player,
How broke were you as a college athlete?
I look forward to every semester when they put, you know,
I think we had like maybe like a $200 stipend on our little ID cars
and they had, and they worked at various restaurants around campus and stuff.
So I look forward to that monthly.
So, I mean, it's one of those things where you survive off of pizza and wings,
but, you know, and you got to put in, you get maybe have three or four guys
tipping in to get pizza.
But, I mean, it was a real strong.
struggling when it came to no money. So, I mean, cafeteria was definitely, you know, definitely
kept you alive. Wow. You know, the people that complain about that. Can you imagine?
Stadium's full. You're playing for championships and he can't afford pizza. Yeah. That's ridiculous.
Hey, Kareem, congratulations. I look forward to seeing you in the AFC championship. I'm a little
ahead of myself there, but congrats on all your success. I can't wait.
Thanks. Thanks. Thanks. I appreciate it.
Kareem Jackson.
And by the way, that's what we say.
Like, you can say the guardrails, you know, it's crazy.
But Alabama's the football power.
By the way, it shows you that Alabama's not paying everybody.
I mean, he was a great, great player.
First round pick.
These guys couldn't afford pizza.
He was waiting for the $200 a month stipend that would go in for food cards on campus.
Yeah.
I mean, he was drafted in 2010.
Late by the Texans.
Yeah.
So.
it's changed a little bit since then, even pre-NIL when it came to, you know, feeding the players.
But yes, that's why it became part of the reason why it became such an extreme need to change this rule.
Because you couldn't even, if you're a booster, there's so many guidelines for what you can't do.
You couldn't even just like have a pizza night for the team.
On Wednesday nights, you don't have to worry about food.
Here, here's 200 bucks.
like, you know, go buy the guys some sandwiches.
So when you have these extreme rules, that's like this is what it leads to.
Yeah.
Joy with the news.
No, no, no, no, no.
Turn on the news.
This is the herd line news.
You got that free education, Colin.
Forget that.
Don't start.
Very important.
No, I'm not mocking education, obviously.
No, it is an opportunity, but you know, a lot of these kids there are filling stadiums.
You can't take your education, you know,
You can't eat it.
You can eat pizza.
There's a lot of it.
So Aaron Donald seemed to shut down any retirement rumors at the Super Bowl parade,
saying the Rams could be champs again if they ran it back next season.
But he is currently seeking a new contract.
And it's anticipated to reset the market for defensive players.
Now, he's 31, right?
He would be the player that you would reset the market on.
Yeah.
He has a number in mind that he wants to play for.
And if that request is not met, retirement is.
apparently still on the table. He's entering the fourth year of his six-year,
$135 million contract. He's still great. Yes. Had the tackle of the Super Bowl.
100%. They don't win that Super Bowl without him. That's right.
Signed through the 2024 season. A new contract is expected to be an extension,
repackaging the remaining three years on his deal with a big race. Also, never hurt.
Great guy. Awesome clubhouse. Been great for the brand. Like these are the guys.
There are guys I would overpay for. Aaron Donald, I would overpay for.
Now, the Rams are great on the business side of things.
Yeah.
And I'm sure that they will figure it out.
He's the highest paid interior alignment and the six highest paid defender at 22.5 million a year.
Again, I'm with you.
There's certain guys that would overpay for.
Aaron Donald is almost the consensus best player in the NFL.
The gap between Aaron Donald and the second best interior lineman is a mile.
The gap between Mahomes and Josh Allen, it depends on the Sunday.
It depends on the play.
Aaron Donald is unblockable in a one-on-one situation.
He is unblockable.
The only defensive lineman that I've ever seen that compares is Reggie White.
That's it.
Like when you look at video, I've seen video of Aaron Donald, you know, because I don't
watch interior line play a lot, but you'll go and see these pieces of video that, you know,
very talented people on the internet go and find.
He is throwing 325 pound men with a single arm.
He's throwing them.
It's like the gap between him.
Like this, Jalen Ramsey's a great corner.
But Jaya or Alexander on certain plays can make the same play.
The wide receivers in this league, the gap between Stefan Diggs and whoever you want to list, Devonte Adams.
Aaron doesn't look like, doesn't play or look like, I mean, look how we just throw.
Yeah, there's no one close to him.
You have to game plan for him.
When you are playing the Rams, you have, everything changes.
Like, you're not running it back from the week before.
he is a game changer in every sense of the word.
So I do think they are going to find a way to make this work.
It just changes the landscape of their season if he's not there.
God, he's just, look how small Vaughn Miller looks next.
I've stood next to Von Miller twice in my life.
Vaughn Miller is a big man.
You know Aaron Donald's tough because he has a six-pack and he weighs 310 pounds or something.
Yeah, he's built different.
I remember when I saw Indomica,
Si, he played high school football in Portland.
And I remember the first thing that stuck out to me when I saw in Domenu play is that he weighed
like 310 pounds with no belly.
He had, and I was like, okay, that's Aaron Donald.
Like most 30010 pounds, guys, you can see the stuff.
You can see the wings in the pizza.
Well, yeah.
I mean, different people carry 310 pounds different ways.
That's what I told you the first time I met Jonathan Ogden.
I could not believe.
I could not believe how massive a person.
person he was.
Anthony Munoz,
left tackle.
I think it's insane.
When you meet these people,
I think there's something wrong.
Like I was,
I was concerned.
I wasn't sure if my brother was okay,
and I'm positive.
You thought you were going to move him?
It's just laughable to me.
You thought you were going to line up
on the other side of Jonathan Ogden and do what?
And that's why he's a,
you know,
Hall of Famer, obviously.
But what were you going to do?
What are you going to do?
You know,
And forget how big he is.
They're so athletic and so fast and so strong.
And so smart.
Jonathan Ogden went to college, UCLA.
You know where Anthony Munoz went, USC.
The new center of college football is right down the street.
Did?
You're going to just drive people nuts.
So annoying.
Daniel Jones is heading into the final season of his contract
since the Giants decided not to pick up his fifth year option.
And he was asked about this and how he felt about his team declining the option.
and he's just focusing on playing this year.
I was certainly out of my control, out of my hands,
and that's the business part of it.
So I understand that.
And my job is to prepare to play as well as I can,
help the team win games.
Just kind of is what it is.
And you're focused on preparing to play as well as you can.
And that's my goal.
That's what my focus is on.
I have no expectations for Daniel Jones this season.
I think he'll be better than last year because the coach is better.
Okay.
Well, he had 10 touchdown, 7 interceptions, 84 passer rating.
Say it again.
Give me those numbers again.
64.3 completion percentage in 2021.
What was that?
What was the?
10 touchdown, 7 interceptions.
Oh, good hell.
84.8 pass a rating.
He went 4 and 7 and 11 games as the start.
Oh, brother.
That's bad.
Yeah.
It's not great.
I mean, look he's a backup quarterback in the league at this point.
Yeah, he's a backup.
They're going to see what they have with him this year.
Similar to, I think, the Seahawks and Carolina and these other teams that we were just talking about,
what's the replacement value of bringing in somebody else that's on the market at this point?
You want to try and build for the future.
You have a new head coach there.
So run it with Daniel Jones this year.
See what you have in him.
But he's not the guy.
New York football is so bad.
It's disappointing to me in the Giants because to me I've always looked at that brand as one of the
of the cornerstone brands of the NFL.
So did I for years. It's a big brand. It's New York.
Now it looks just inadequate.
For years, I always thought it was like an accounting firm of the new.
I mean, it was a classic. They weren't always flashy, but they were stable and solid
and ownership. Now it's a circus.
Isn't that great? I mean, they have been really, really bad. That's bad.
So Chris Sims has started to reveal his annual quarterback rankings and he has Trey Lance
listed at 31.
Ooh. That's tasty.
So he sees talent and potential in Lance, but his accuracy is still a big.
question. And while Lance is expected to be the
Niners starter, Sim said he's
not the best quarterback currently on the roster
and Jimmy Garoppolo will be ranked higher
on this list. Well, yeah, right.
You think? At least I've seen Jimmy play.
The Tray Lance thing is so interesting to me. I know.
I'm so fascinated by this. Same here. Totally.
I know Shanahan's always up to something. So I
can't be committal with any
of it because it's always this show game.
We need to go to a season with some
question marks. And this is the big one.
Oh, yeah, we need to. They don't.
don't. They need to know he's the guy. That's what, this is what it's so confusing to me about it. Obviously, the market for Jimmy Garapolo dried up with the surgery, but Jimmy Garapolo's always been an injury prone player. Everybody knows what Jimmy is at this point. There's no secrets. So for Jimmy's cap hit, and Jimmy has loyalties in the locker room.
Oh, players love Jimmy. So you want to talk about a split locker room. You can't have Jimmy on your, you cannot have Jimmy G on your roster to start this season. I don't know how you do it. Jimmy has won games. He's taking this team to the Super Bowl. He's such a guy's guy.
If Tray Lance comes out and struggles the first four games,
you don't think fans are going to be like,
where's Jimmy if he's on the roster?
And also, it's just Jimmy is...
He's not a backup quarterback.
Very interesting, spicy.
All right, Joy with the News.
Well, that's the news.
And thanks for stopping by.
The Herd Lie News.
I love the new implemented spicy into your vocabulary now.

Do you remember when Diana Ross
double-tap Little Kim's boobs at the VMAs?
Or when Kanye said that George Bush
didn't like black people. I know what you're thinking.
What the hell does George Bush got to do a little kill?
Well, you can find out on the Look Back at it podcast.
I'm Sam J.
And I'm Alex English.
Each episode, we pick a here, unpack what went down, and try to make sense of how we survived it.
Including a recent episode with Mark Lamont Hill waxing all about crack in the 80s.
To be clear, 84 is big to me, not just because of crack.
I'm down to talk about crack on day, but just so you all know.
I mean, at this point, Mark, this is the second episode where we've discussed crack.
So I'm starting to see that there's a through line.
We also have AIDS on the table right now.
Thank you finishing that sentence.
I don't think there's a more important year for black people.
Really?
Yeah.
For me, it's one of the most important years for black people in American history.
Listen to look back at it on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts.
HustlerTurf.
Brand lawn care pros have trusted for years.
HustlerTurf.com.
Find a dealer near you, 1,500 of them.
All right, Jason McIntyre.
Last segment Friday shows, we call it tomorrow's headlines today, where you predict what's going to happen with stunning accuracy.
Uncanny accuracy.
And, you know, he's our sports gambling analyst here at Fox Sports One.
So let's go, the former newspaper man, tomorrow's headlines today.
What's the headline?
Heat Celtics Tide 1-1.
So before the playoffs, you remember I came on here and I picked the heat to win the championship.
Joy cheered, you scoffed.
The headline will be Celtics front office looks wicked smart.
I have flipped a little bit.
And you know what we do is gamblers, Colin.
When you get more information, you are allowed to make different choices.
And as much as I like Miami coming into this series, Colin, no Kyle Lowry.
And this Bamatabio issue that's starting to percolate.
Yeah, what's going on there?
Listen, Bamadabio is a super talented player.
He is an all, I think he's going to be, you know, third team all NBA.
He is one of the best rising centers in the league.
the guy's got 16 points in two games.
I know.
He's being guarded by Jalen Brown, who's like a 6-7 wing.
It's like, bam, attack.
And it's weird because coming out of college, he was like,
okay, Kentucky, Rim Runner, Dunker,
but Miami saw that this guy can be like the fulcrum of your offense.
Great passer.
He's quick, he's nimble, he's smart, great IQ.
I'm not seeing it in the series.
And if he doesn't step up, Jimmy Butler gets no help.
And this Boston team looks really, really strong.
Boston's got four players who are all elite defenders, minimum.
And game one was a big.
bit of a fluke, right? No smart, no
Horford, and Miami just went nuts. I think
Boston comes back and win this series. Seven of eight quarters.
Boston's outscorers.
Tomorrow's headlines today.
Browns currently stuck with Baker Mayfield
on the roster. What do you make of that?
Cleveland Browns, okay, we could do Cleveland Browns.
I think Baker could be on the move because
obviously they got Deshawn Watson. The headline
will be
Mayfield, hitches ride to Motor City.
Detroit Lions, Colin, how does that strike you?
Detroit Lions plus Baker.
Baker Mayfield. I will give you some background here. Number one, do you remember the guy who drafted
Baker Mayfield, a guy by the name of Dorsey? He's now in the Lions front office. He's working with
them. And if you look at the Lions, there's major optimism right now about this roster. They
got a better roster than the Chicago Bears in the division. This is a Lions team on the uptick.
Jared Goff, they can get out of his deal after the season. If you're Detroit and you feel like,
hey, we ended last season good, got James and Williams coming in, man, this team, this roster,
DeAndre Swift, we really like what we have. Can we make a lot?
a run at a wild card spot in the NFC.
And my guess is they don't think golf is a long-term solution.
What if we brought in Baker Mayfield?
We're not going to be awful.
We got Hutchison on defense.
We've improved the lines.
I think Baker Mayfield could have something in Detroit.
Now, I don't know that they're going to pay the $19 million for him,
but keep an eye on Baker and the Detroit Lions.
Okay, I got to go back to NBA.
Yes, we can do that.
Okay.
We did the Eastern Conference final.
Yes.
Warriors and the Mavericks.
Luca Donchich talking his talk,
Steph Curry delivering the headline will be
Hail Curry!
Warriors, prayers, answered.
I think Golden State prevails in the series.
I like The Mavericks a lot.
I do want to tell you, I had another incident
with Kevin Durant this week.
You did?
Yeah, you know, he's on Instagram
and he's very active.
And I tag him in some stuff
that I talk about on my podcast.
He instantly replies,
hey, what's the narrative
if the Warriors don't win?
Essentially insinuating,
what have they done since I left?
And everybody's saying, hey, Warriors won before Durant got there.
They won with him.
If they win without Kevin Durant, it's kind of a knock on Durant.
And KD is shooting back and saying, well, wait, what if they don't win?
What have they done?
And I said, KD, that's not actually bad.
And then, of course, I said, come on my podcast.
He said, no, thank you.
Which is understandable because he's Kevin Durant.
That being said, Colin, in this series, Clay Thompson, inconsistent, right?
Coming off the injury.
No question.
Jordan Pool runs hot and cold, right?
Who is Mr. Consistency?
right here. Steph Curry led the game in points, led everybody in rebounds, he delivers.
He, I remain just disturbed by the amount of people who bashed Curry's postseason.
He is the 12th leading score of points per game in NBA playoff history, above Kobe, above Elijah one, above the mailman.
Like, Curry delivers all the time, stop the narratives, warriors advance to the finals.
Okay, let me go back to the NFL. You're a Philly Jersey guy.
Eagles, Eagles, tomorrow's headlines today.
Eagles, very interesting offseason, loaded up on that roster.
Let's clear this up.
I'm a New York guy.
I did live in Philly for a minute.
They don't like me there, Colin, because the Sixers stuff.
But the headline will be winning never hurts so good.
How about this, Colin?
A bet for you right now, Philadelphia Eagles to win the NFC.
Go to the Super Bowl.
What are the odds?
I think they're plus $2,700 right now to win the Super Bowl, but it's less to win the NFC.
The Eagles right now, Colin, easiest schedule by multiple.
Multiple metrics in the league.
Yes.
Okay?
They have a quarterback who we know he's had some issues.
But he's productive.
He's productive.
But guess what?
When he's not productive, they had five games where they rushed for 200 plus yards.
This team can beat you in multiple ways.
And I did.
I went on speak for yourself last week and I said, you know, they were hyping up Jalen Hertz.
And I'm like, listen, there were jokes in Tampa.
Jalen Hertz could not read a breakfast menu in that playoff game last year.
He got destroyed.
He got embarrassed in the pocket.
He now has A.J. Brown.
You add a superstar receiver who's a top.
seven, eight receiver in the league.
Their defense is nasty.
They just got Bradbury, who was the number one corner on the Giants in the division, familiarity.
And oh, yeah, big play Slay on the other side.
Their fronts are really good.
Come, this is a good Eagles team, and I'll ask you, like, other than Tom Brady and Aaron Rogers,
Aaron Rogers lost Adams, what are the really good teams?
Matt Stafford.
In the NFL.
Well, they're taking a big step back, by the way.
Oh, come on.
Slow down.
L.A. teams only win.
Have you?
They're going to be down like six starters.
They lost their left tackle Whitworth.
Colin, they lost a lot of guys.
Super Bowl hangover is real.
We don't know if Odell's coming back.
I like the Rams.
They're a playoff team.
But the NFC's wide open, Eagles, keep an eye on.
Okay, I only have time for one more.
Okay.
Do you want to do the Chargers or the NBA one?
I'll let you pick.
Dealers' choice.
Okay, I'm interested.
Let's go to the NBA.
All right.
Tomorrow's headlines today.
So Orlando got the number one pick.
You love college basketball.
I do like college.
The guy who likes college basketball.
I did a mock draft for Fox Sports this week.
Oh, you did.
Imagine that.
It's a big clicker on Fox Sports.
People love a mock draft.
Okay.
All right, give it to me.
The headline will be number one overall pick.
Don't bet Chet.
Jabari Smith cast spell on magic.
People like him.
I'm telling you right now,
I wrote about how Jabari Smith's going to be the number one pick.
You never want to say anything's a lock.
But right now there's some rumors about Palo Boncherro from Duke that are swirling not great.
He's an awesome player.
I'll tell you about him offline.
But Chet Holmgren,
is the guy everybody thought would be the pick?
It's not going to be him.
It's going to be Jabari Smith.
He is now the betting favorite in the last 72 hours.
He's moved to be number one.
Listen, you don't find a lot of 6-10 guys who can splash threes the way he can.
42% on threes.
He's essentially Chris Bosch, but way more ready for the NBA.
Look at this.
He's a freak.
Now, he did not have a lot of talent around him last year at Auburn.
He was the guy, but his guards were all like, I got to get mine.
This guy, and Orlando loves length.
They want to draft the guys that are long and can shoot.
I think he's a good fit in Orlando.
I think he's going to go number one.
I don't know that they're going to be any good next year.
I'm curious about Chet Holman, Colin.
I know he needs to get in the wait room,
and you're a big wait room guy dating back to Durant.
I think Jabari Spence a lot to go number one.
Yeah, I think you could draft a lot of guys number one.
The kid I like, I don't think I draft him one.
I'd probably go with the Duke kid.
The Jade and I be guys very interesting.
He's nice.
He's got a little, I don't think he's as good as,
I don't think he's the floor general of John Morant.
but even when we showed highlights earlier,
he got a little more. He's spicy.
He needs the ball in his hands, though, to deliver.
And that's why I like the kid from Arizona, Mathurin,
a little better than him. I know you don't know who that is.
You like college basketball like the 70s.
Well, March Madness is one of my best gambling months
every time, every year.
Because NFL, you know, you run hot and cold.
NBA playoffs. I was at 61% betting every night for Fox.
Oh, I stunk this year.
And then the last week, I've hit a rough patch, you know?
It's tough.
Did you see the number?
Golden State?
minus six.
That is disrespectful to Dallas.
If you want to take, here's a great betting,
Doug.
Dallas this year lost 10 games by
20 or more points.
Guess what the record is, the game after that?
10 and 0, including twice against the suns.
So take the Mavs tonight.
Mavs tonight, if you want it.
Plus six and a half faux show.
Put it in your bank account.
Maybe you can go to another European trip.
Miss summer, huh?
Joy knows what we're talking about.
I'll buy jet skis for the crew.
If the Mavs hit money line tonight,
you guys heard that.
Jeez, wow.
See you about it. Giving mood.
