Starting point is 00:00:00 This is an IHeart podcast. Guaranteed Human. Hey guys, it's us. The Jonas Brothers. I'm Joe. I'm Kevin. And I'm Nick. And guess what? We created our own podcast called, Hey Jonas.
Starting point is 00:00:12 We invented a podcast? Well, we didn't invent it. We just contributed to it. We're the first people to do podcasts. We get to ask other people questions because we're sick and tired of being asked questions. Well, sick and tired is a strong way to put it. But, you know, tired and sick. Tired and sick.
Starting point is 00:00:26 Listen to Hey Jonas on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you. you get your podcast. Just listen. We don't care where you hear it. Another podcast from some SNL late night comedy guy, not quite. Unhumor me with Robert Smygel and friends. Me and hilarious guests from Bob Odenkirk to David Letterman help make you funnier. This week, my guest, SNL's Mikey Day and head writer Streeter Seidel, help an a cappella band with their between songs banter. Where does your group perform? We do some retirement homes. Those people are starving for banter. Listen to humor me with Robert Smigel and friends on the ice.
Starting point is 00:01:00 Heart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. I'm Joey Dardano, and on my new podcast, Hope from a Hypocrite, I'll be changing lives, helping people in need with thoughtful solutions. Sike, I'm a comedian. I'm not qualified to give good advice. Join me and my comedian friends as we riff rant and recommend some of the most legally dubious advice known to me. This is Help from a Hypocrite, the worst advice from the dumbest people you know.
Starting point is 00:01:27 Listen to Help from a Hypocrite Wednesdays on the IHard. Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. The story I've told myself can then shape my behavior, and that can lead me to sabotage the possibility of connection. This Mental Health Awareness Month, tune into the podcast Deeply Well with Debbie Brown. If you've been searching for a soft place to land while doing the work to become whole, this podcast is for you to hear more. Listen to Deeply Well with Debbie Brown from the Black Effect Podcast Network on the
Starting point is 00:02:00 Heart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcast. Thanks for listening to The Heard podcast. Be sure to catch us live every weekday on Fox Sports Radio in noon to 3 Eastern, 9 a.m. to noon Pacific. Find your local station for the herd at Fox Sports Radio.com or stream us live every day on the iHeart Radio app by searching Fox Sports Radio or FSR. You're listening to Fox Sports Radio. What up?
Starting point is 00:02:32 Welcome in. This is the herd. Wherever you may be, however you may be making this part of your day. Thanks so much. I'm Doug Gottlieb in for Colin Cowherd. And for the next couple of hours, I want to talk sports with you. From La Costa Canyon to Escondido. It's actually not far off to each other.
Starting point is 00:02:51 It probably wasn't the best. From Otai Mesa to San Clemente. That was better. From Baja to the Canadian Rockies. From Baja to the Canadian Rockies, the best 15 minutes in sports. You have to know to know, and if you're a SoCal, longstanding sports radio listener, you know exactly who I'm talking about. And that is a tip of the cap.
Starting point is 00:03:18 That's not making fun in any sort of way. Hey, welcome in. I hope you're having a great day. Jay Stu, give me the weather update in sunny, Southern California. Weather on the ones. Weather on the ones today, mid-70s and sunny. Not a cloud in the sky. Doug in Southern California.
Starting point is 00:03:33 Back to you for traffic on the Tuesday. Okay. So, Ryan, do you want to guess? Do you want to guess what we're working with here in Green Bay? I'm looking out at actual at the bay. My dog loves it outside, no matter how cold it is outside. Brian, do you want to take any sort of guess of what it is right now? 17 degrees.
Starting point is 00:03:57 Okay. It is sunny and 25 degrees. Sunny and 25. Uh, feels like 21, I'm told. Last night it was in the, last night was the negatives. We're out of the negatives for a while. But, uh, it's a, it's a dry 25. That's the good thing, right?
Starting point is 00:04:13 It's dry heat. It's dry heat. I bring it up because we're, we're two months away from the NFL draft being in Green Bay. And we had no snow in November and December and just dustings in January. And then we haven't gotten dumped. We had like back to back. So there's probably about 8 inches, 10 inches of snow on the ground.
Starting point is 00:04:37 But no one has any idea. In April it could be 75. It could be 45. We got no idea. But it's going to be fun to have everybody in town for the NFL draft. Let's get to what we saw last night on the basketball floor. Really, the only thing going of note was the Lakers taking on the Charlotte Hornets last night at Crypto. and the Lakers lose after having a big lead.
Starting point is 00:05:05 And there's like, you can make lots of... We can do the whole blame pie that they used to do on undisputed. We can make it out all to be LeBron's fault because he missed two shots in the last five seconds with a chance to send it to overtime. But we'd also be being unfair to LeBron because, well, without LeBron, they wouldn't have had that lead. He was the one Laker who really had it going
Starting point is 00:05:29 Of course, Austin Reeves got thrown out of the game for a verbal attack on an official. So then you end up having the Hornets win after the Hornets come storming back, outscore the Lakers 32-18, the third quarter, a 22-1 run. And the Lakers just did not come out of the locker room well. But look, if you're honest and your and your, and your, being fair as much as I don't agree with the trade. I don't.
Starting point is 00:06:07 But I also, there's lots of things I don't know about, and neither do you. Because on the outside, you're like, man, Luca is a generational talent. He's in any conversation of currently the best player in the league when he's healthy.
Starting point is 00:06:23 He just took the Mavericks to the NBA finals. And it felt like they were building the thing around him. Now, the $350 million for your contract extension that was out there for them, that's a real thing. And again, if you're running a business, you're like, who's your best employee? Well, it's this guy. But he's always late.
Starting point is 00:06:45 You know, there's just a limit. It feels like it's going to get worse with age. If you look at Luca and you're honest with yourself, you're like, he's not the picture of fitness. He doesn't play defense. It's kind of amazing he's able to. be this good despite the things he doesn't do. And if you're going to give a guy a four-year, $350 million
Starting point is 00:07:09 contract, like once you give him that contract, that's kind of on you. Because that's fully guaranteed, like, you can get mad and stop your feet as much as you want, but you still have to pay him. Whether you play him or you don't play him. And if you think that is unique just to this, no, no, no. We say this on my show.
Starting point is 00:07:28 So my show is the Doug Gottlieb show. it runs after this one on most Fox Sports Radio affiliates and the I Heart Radio app. And we say this all the time about the collective bargaining agreement in the NFL. You get players who are complaining about how many games they're playing. Hey, shouldn't have agreed to the contract. You get owners that don't like some of the deals, you know, the amount of time they're practicing. Should agree to the contract.
Starting point is 00:07:59 Players don't like the franchise tag. the contract. Franchise tag is a collectively bargained agreement. Anyway, it's a contract that a high enough percentage of the players, a majority of the players, agreed to, so it lives. And if you don't like it, well, then this is not the business
Starting point is 00:08:16 for you because that's something that collectively they've collectively bargained upon for a decade-long contract. And the point is that the Hornets, the Mavericks, you could be as critical as you want of the trade. And my My critique would be if you're going to trade away a guy and not take him to market, you have to get such an incredible value.
Starting point is 00:08:42 Look, we're on in Southern California, so people in L.A. know this to be true. And I know the real estate market right now is a little bit flat. Interest rates are high, although they've dropped some. But the housing market is the perfect parallel. because, and if you live in a market where this isn't the case, I'm sorry, you may have to catch up because it's a little bit different. I sold three houses in Newport Beach when I live there. All three of them we sold off market.
Starting point is 00:09:11 The house was never listed. It was never listed. How did you tell the house? It wasn't like somebody just, hey man, can I want to, I'll give you a $15 million of your house. That's not how it works. but realtors do knock on your door they do slide newspapers paper into your
Starting point is 00:09:31 oh look hey I got a buyer is looking and I have a tremendous realtor in in Newport I'll give me a shout up my man John Deshawn and they know everybody
Starting point is 00:09:43 coming in coming out everybody and so all you got to do is go like hey we're we'd actually think about listening this thing and then you talk about what do you think it's worth
Starting point is 00:09:53 and like you know what I might have a client for you. And so, again, there's three different homes. One couple walks in, I want it. How much? Done. So you don't have to list it. You don't have to have an open house.
Starting point is 00:10:09 You don't have to have a realtor open house. You don't have to take all the pictures. You don't have to do all the things. Okay, sometimes you only have to do the inspection. People walk in, they're like, I want it as is. Here's the check. I don't know where people have this kind of money, but it does happen. happens.
Starting point is 00:10:28 But there is one caveat to it. And this is just a belief I have. I think most people would share that belief is, if you're going to buy something off market, and I'm not going to get into a bidding war, especially in a buyer's market, well, then you're going to have to pay, maybe not above asking,
Starting point is 00:10:49 but the asking has to be a little bit higher than one would expect. you know like if it's a $800,000 house and you're like well what do you list it for like I don't know we'll take $825 for it like this is not
Starting point is 00:11:06 you're not really have room to haggle because if you want to hack wait listen if you don't want to pay that price that's fine we'll just take it to market and maybe you can get it for $750 or $7.25 or maybe it gets bid up and you have to pay $900 for it
Starting point is 00:11:20 so to me the biggest mistake is that if you're going to have a commodity like Luca that everyone concludes is I mean it's the best player that could ever could possibly be traded at 25 years old you know in an expiring contract like that's a pretty good deal
Starting point is 00:11:42 and now by the way he can't get that Supermax deal so you're going to save some money to the new team as well you got to get a little bit more than they got you just have to figure out a way to get more And if the Lakers didn't want to get more like, all right, Rob, listen, I know we got a great relationship. But I'm going to have to take this to market. And when I take it to market, I don't know if just Anthony Davis and a couple of pieces if that doesn't. But the other side to it is if you're honest with yourself and so few people actually are honest with themselves.
Starting point is 00:12:16 And you go, okay, why do you make the trade? Well, because he's not really in shape. He doesn't really play defense. and he consistently gets himself out of shape in the offseason, and the defense has never really picked up, and yet we get to the NBA finals. So if anything, it kind of gives him, it empowers him. Like, hey, I didn't play much defense last year when we made the NBA finals.
Starting point is 00:12:40 Why are you yelling at me about it? If you watch last night, okay, and I get he's still coming off of injury, it's on a new team, he's playing off the ball more, whereas everything, everything, everything. was him with a ball screen in Dallas, which, by the way, the Lakers really want to remake themselves. They're worrying so much about finding a rim protector. You've got to figure out a way to create ball screen opportunities for Luca.
Starting point is 00:13:06 He's amazing at it. But if you watch last night, you would say, like, he didn't have very good shape, and man he didn't play any defense. And somewhere Nico Harrison's sitting there going, what's the meme with, oh, man. The meme with that guy, the what's his face, that meme? Come on, dude. Give me some clues here.
Starting point is 00:13:35 Hold on. Now I'm really having a tough day. Okay. What's the meme? He, famous actor, dates women much younger than him. George Clooney? No, he's married.
Starting point is 00:13:52 Leo DiCaprio on his couch with a beer pointing at the screen. Right? doing the looking at the screen from once upon his time in Hollywood yep yes yes that one
Starting point is 00:14:09 what is that what is that meme called what would you how would you describe that meme when you want to search for that meme what do you describe how it uh
Starting point is 00:14:18 Leo decaprio pointing at TV I don't know yes that's Nico last night see that dad right there that's the one
Starting point is 00:14:30 uh And then, you know, LeBron misses two shots at the end, and we're supposed to argue about, like, sports radio is supposed to be, who's going to take the game winning shot? Is it LeBron? Is it Luca? And I just think those things organically take care of themselves. Like, LeBron had it going last night. He takes him. Eventually, it's going to be Luca's team.
Starting point is 00:14:50 But you got to allow LeBron kind of like his space. It's his deal. Like, let him do his deal. And then once we get to the playoffs, we know who's going to have the ball. But, Doug, it's sports talk. So you doing the case-by-case. thing. That's somewhere in the middle. That's far too rational for sports talk. So, how
Starting point is 00:15:07 about we narrow this down? Game 7 of a playoff series, who do you want, coach, taking that shot? I like it all depends. Yeah, it depends. That doesn't work. There's no more depends. There is, though. That's where
Starting point is 00:15:22 sports talk is, the polarizing either, you know, either your, because this is how sports talk works. If I don't think LeBron James, is the greatest player of all time. I'm a hater, and I've somehow said he sucks. Whereas, you know, there's 450 NBA players right now.
Starting point is 00:15:45 There's 8 billion people on the planet. They're the best of the best, the best. And again, the NBA has existed for about 100 years, but really we're only paying attention in the past 40 years. And if I say he's the second or third best, that's not saying he sucks. That's saying I prefer Jordan. Honestly, in a game, I would have preferred Bird in his prime.
Starting point is 00:16:02 Probably magic in his prime. To LeBron. But LeBron's great, and his ability to longevity, he's amazing. He's awesome. I just like those guys in the short instance better. Again, I know that doesn't work. I guess that doesn't work for some people's sports radio. What would I do?
Starting point is 00:16:21 This year, again, it depends. Are they double-teaming LeBron? Are they double-teaming Luca? Who's open? Who's playing well? I probably end up like again if all things being equal it would probably be Luca that's a good that's a good exercise so they're both having a great game
Starting point is 00:16:41 they both have similar stats and at the end you're just like I want Luca so that that's the way to put it I like that so I'm going to hold you to that yeah because he's done it at the end of playoff games more recently than LeBron has done it LeBron has done it more often for more years playoffs, but it stands the reason that Luca, at 25 years old, having just taken a team to the NBA finals last year, he's done it more recently, and he will be younger, and although he's not in shape now, if we were to get that deep into the NBA playoffs, he would be in the
Starting point is 00:17:15 best shape of the year, and I would, and they both, I mean, look, the thing about both of them is both incredible passers, so if you throw a second guy at him, they will find the open guy, but I would say Luca would be my guy. And it depends on the shot too, right? Like last night they needed a three. I mean, if LeBron could get you two easier than a three, right? Luca's the better perimeter shooter. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:17:42 Yeah, I mean, like, look, LeBron had two really good looks. Those are two really good looks. He left him short, but those are two good looks. And at the time, he was, I think, four of nine from three. So whoever gets those looks that's on the floor at the end. Dorian Finney Smith or Gabe Vincent or if Rui had two wide open looks, Rui shot the ball poorly last night. Like those are good looks.
Starting point is 00:18:05 A little deep. But yeah, of course it depends upon the selection of the shot, where it comes to the shot clock, who it's against, how you're playing, all these things. We make this stuff up like, you know, it's like when the Ravens lost in the playoffs. You know, people critical of the play calling. Should they have given it to Derek Henry more off? Yeah, but then when you turn the football over and he get behind and they're stacking the box, is that the best way?
Starting point is 00:18:36 Is that the best way? So, Lakers lose all of the flaws with Luca and some with LeBron on display. If we're fair about it, he's still, Luca was still a plus 13 despite the fact that he was, like LeBron, his stats were way better, was a my mind. minus four. Luca, a plus 13. He ends up with 14, 11, and 8 assists, did have six turnovers,
Starting point is 00:19:04 was 5 of 18 from the floor. And struggle to guard as Lamello late in the game lit him up. But if you watch that game and you're fair about it, again, I wouldn't have traded Luca Donchick. No chance. But if you're fair about it,
Starting point is 00:19:23 you go, God, he doesn't look like he's in shape, and he ain't guard anybody. Be sure to catch live editions of the herd weekdays in noon Eastern 9 a.m. Pacific on Fox Sports Radio, FS1, and the IHeart Radio app. Hey, it's us, the Jonas Brothers, and guess what? We have some big news. What's the news, Nick? Huge news. We created our own podcast called, Hey, Jonas. We invented a podcast? Well, we didn't invent it. We just contributed to a... We're the first people to do podcasts. Pretty, yeah, pretty wide range of podcasts throughout there. But this one's extra special.
Starting point is 00:19:56 So how do we actually come up with a name Hey Jonas, guys? I honestly don't remember. I think it was on a call about what we should call it. Oh, we were thinking I'm originally calling it one of the early names of our band before Jonas Brothers. This is how you guys remember it going down? Yes. I have a very different memory of this. We were talking about a thing, a bit for the podcast, where people could call in and say, hey, Jonas.
Starting point is 00:20:21 And then I wrote down on my little notepad, Hey Jonas, Jonas, and offered it up as a potential. title for the podcast. But thanks for remembering that, guys. Listen to Hey Jonas on the Iheart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcast. Just listen. We don't care where you hear it. Another podcast from some SNL late night comedy guy, not quite.

Starting point is 00:21:56 to hear more. Listen to deeply well with Debbie Brown from the Black Effect Podcast Network on the Iheart radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcast. Hey, I'm Deanna Maria Riva, actress, mother, lover, and a Gen X woman walking through life one hot flash and hormonal crying jag at a time. You ladies know what I mean. I'll bet you a perimenapausal chin here you do. So let's talk about it. Join me on my new podcast. How hard can it be with Deanna Maria Riva, where I call on my Gen X squads from Ohio to Hollywood, as we We navigate midlife's most fantastic BS. All of a sudden, I'd had hanginess happening on my own.
Starting point is 00:22:33 I was like, what the hell is that? I was married when I had her, so I didn't even consider how empty that nest was going to be. Mood swings, night sweats, fupas, sex drive. Wait, what sex? Dating at 45. How can it be getting naked at 50 with a new guy? That one's kind of hard. Well, that's lighting.
Starting point is 00:22:53 They say we can't polish a turd, but we're sure going to try. So let's get blunt with laughs, tears or tears of laughter, and dive into it unfiltered and unbothered and ask, How Hard Can It Be? I cannot believe I'm about to say this out loud in public. Listen to How Hard Can It Be with Diana Maria Riva as part of My Cultura podcast network available on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts.
Starting point is 00:23:16 Doug Ghaly, Benport, Colin, this is The Hurt, Fox Sports Radio, on the IHeart Radio app. Welcome in. Second half of the NBA season gets underway tonight. I know we had a make-up game last night, so we do have some NBA stuff to talk about that's already taken place. Let's welcome in Ryan Hollins, Fox Sports Radio NBA analyst. Of course, he's also a Rockets game analyst,
Starting point is 00:23:40 and he played 10 years in the NBA after starring at UCLA. Ryan, what can we take away from the Lakers giving away a big lead and losing to the Hornets last night at home? Oh, I know that the fixes were not there, defensively. And the challenge is between LeBron and Luca being on the court. And I think watching
Starting point is 00:24:04 Luca in a couple of those possessions, you know, you've got to ask yourself, is it a matter of health that he can't get down in the defensive stance and keep guys in front? Is that knee bothering him that much? Or is a matter of do I want to guard?
Starting point is 00:24:21 Do I want to keep guys in front? But you have to have a large level of concerns. The way that the NBA's played now. You know, Doug, when we played, the guards would fight through springs, Big Michelle, then you recover. Today's NBA, because of spacing,
Starting point is 00:24:36 every opposing team is going to hunt down the weak link. And whoever your guarding is going to be in the pick and roll until they get the matchup that they want or shot they want. What's that mean? That means the Lakers are going to have a very long season
Starting point is 00:24:50 until they figure out Luke of Donchage defensively, so I'm not sure what the schemes are going to be moving down the street. but there's a large concern because he's moving around the way that LeBron actually should be at 40 years old. Right. I mean, it's interesting you say this because, look, I wouldn't have pulled off the trade. But if you watch last night and you're like, you're not in good shape, he doesn't guard anybody.
Starting point is 00:25:18 And you want me to sign a four-year, $350 million contract? Like, oof. There was a little bit of confirmation over some of the fears. in Dallas watching him last night. He's, and look, he was still a plus 13. He still had a great, a positive impact during his time in the game. And like, not the
Starting point is 00:25:36 plus minus is everything, but they were 13 points better than the Horace when he was in. But they were just, he didn't guard at all. At all, Ryan. Yeah, but, but Doug, again, that's the challenge. And then I think as far as legacy
Starting point is 00:25:52 is concerned, LeBron's legacy as a player is pretty much set in stone. I don't know what's more he can do. You know, at the end of the day, he's one of the greatest to ever do that. No one can contest that. But his global legacy, his legacy moving forward, the legacy
Starting point is 00:26:08 of, hey, like, LeBron, what has you left to the game? Is right now what he gave to Anthony Davis and even bigger what he gives to Luca Donchitz. If Luca Donchins ends up being the heir apparent to the throne in the NBA kingdom, they're going to say, LeBron James, you either help push that forward or LeBron James, you were a non-factor in this equation.
Starting point is 00:26:29 So LeBron has now been given as much a stake as he is in it for his own legacy purposes of moving the game forward. You know, and I get it. We throw a way to throw LeBron's name around, you know, very loosely. But, you know, you're handing those keys to the kingdom to somebody else. That is big. That's why Chris Paul, you know, went down to San Antonio to help out with Wimby. That's why a lot of these guys are gravitating to these young stuff. I'm sure there's going to be a big name that's going to be right alongside Anthony Edwards trying to help him get where he needs to go because of his talent level.
Starting point is 00:27:04 But for LeBron, you know, this is his responsibility now. Ryan Hall is our guest here in the herd. I'm Doug Outley filling in for Colin. Okay, let's get to the Warriors. You know, now, you know, Jimmy Butler, they're going to win. We're going to win it. How, what does that trade do? to the Warriors in the playoffs
Starting point is 00:27:30 in your opinion, right? I mean, it's dangerous. I wouldn't want to see him in the first round. You know, I'd be lying to you if I said, you know, looking at Oklahoma City told you that was championship contention, but we got to see him before the break, and Doug, Jimmy didn't even know the plays yet,
Starting point is 00:27:47 but, you know, with him on the floor with Steph, it's dangerous because their games really complement each other. And if we're going to be the, we're going to nitpick Steph Curry at this moment. Let's nitpick them. In moments, When the defense gets tight because of his size, it's hard for him to get to the foul light or get his shot off in moments. That's what Jimmy Butler does.
Starting point is 00:28:07 So you may see a lot of 13 screen, flip actions, and Kerr drew up a couple dots, you know, with Jimmy Butler. Because you got to follow Curry. And now you get Jimmy Butler with a smaller guy that he can go one-on-one against, you know. And then obviously they improved defensively, and I think they were deep enough to be able to lose Kyle Anderson and Wiggins, even though those are two great players, but this was a deep enough team where Gary Payton, the second can step in, and there's a number of other guys of Moses Moody's who played, you know, extremely well.
Starting point is 00:28:39 And, you know, imagine what they're going to look like even when Jonathan Camina gets back. Okay. So if it's not the Lakers, if it's not the Warriors, like Houston's obviously had a turnaround season. The Thunder have been awesome last year in the regular season, this year in the regular season, but last year they lost to Dallas.
Starting point is 00:29:00 Are the thunder there yet? I guess this is the big question. They're there. They're there, Doug. When you play them this season, when we were able to see them, they picked up where they left off from last year. And you remember if we're going to liken this to football, remember Peyton Manning, and I'm not saying,
Starting point is 00:29:18 I'm not trying to throw a shot. Remember Peyton Manning, everybody was like, man, he's playing playoff football in the middle of the year. Like, they stepped into this year playing playoff basketball. all. They, even with a small lineup, they were making some of the most detailed defensive adjustments on the slide that I've seen from a team, you know, and the big compliment is when you can implement different strategies for different guys.
Starting point is 00:29:40 They would shift their defense one way for Fred Van Fleet driving, and then they shift a whole other way for Jalen Green, and their guys were picking up the IQ of, hey, let's take away what the player does best. And when we beat them at home, it literally took 30 plus plus. points from Fred and a half court heave to do it. But they said, forever at least going to beat us scoring the basketball, but the adjustments that they were
Starting point is 00:30:03 able to make on the fly were nothing short of impressive. And then Shea's unbelievable. They have a guy. Like, Doug, you know, like they have a guy. Like, their sound, things are rolling. When Chet comes back, there's a different dimension, and they have a guy. Shea Gildes is a guy.
Starting point is 00:30:20 He's a dude. There's no question. He's a dude. Wemby They shut Wemby down for For deep-bain thombosis In his shoulder What does this do to your outlook for For Wemby, right?
Starting point is 00:30:36 It is one of those guys that We've all like, again, as fans, We look at him, we're like, well, he's going to break it half at some point And that's going to be that He didn't break it half, but he got a blood clot In his shoulder. What does this do to his trajectory? Well, my concerns at 10 to 10.
Starting point is 00:30:56 I'm sure San Antonio's worried that they're shutting them down. The first thought comes to mind. I'm no medical expert, Doug, but I don't think you take that lightly. Chris Bosch didn't play again, you know. So hopefully they're catching this thing early. They're playing it safe. Again, I don't know enough about a blood clot, but for a guy that young to be missing games,
Starting point is 00:31:17 the concern was there earlier. We talked about Luca Dantius, right? and we're saying you're 25 years old the knee has not gone away it's lingering and if you watch the clip he's standing like a scarecrow on defense you're concerned is that what major health issue there is that
Starting point is 00:31:32 because is it like I said is it that you don't want to get down or is there a health issue but back to Wembe for him to be missing games it's a concern and he's a generational talent he could break every record that the NBA has standing if he can be healthy you think about Yal Ming and his greatness.
Starting point is 00:31:52 And for Yao Ming, you know, his foot, broken foot, ended up taking them out. So, you know, we have these giants in the game and sometimes we don't see them
Starting point is 00:32:00 at their peak. Hey, Doug, if we saw Arvita's or bonus in his prime, if he came over to the NBA, you know, we got to see the older our Vitas.
Starting point is 00:32:08 So I'm praying that we get to see Wemby reaches potential. I hope it's a speedy recovery, but I'll be lying to you if I said that there is not a cause for concern. The prayer is going out
Starting point is 00:32:19 and hopefully, you know, he ends up just being finally. They caught whatever it was soon enough. Can anybody in the East beat the Celtics in the playoffs? It's going to be tough, Doug. When we saw them this year, they just, like, they're a well-oiled machine. And I think the challenge is when you play them, they really defend it. Like, they get after you. And to me, the key in the NBA right now is your depth.
Starting point is 00:32:46 Joe Missoula is not scared to go 10 or 12 deep in the game. and the key is rest. You're looking at a lot of these other stars and teams, and guys are breaking down left, right. Steph Curry missed the chunk of the season. John Morant missed so much that he wasn't in the game. The Sons hadn't played with their starting lineup or their big three intact.
Starting point is 00:33:04 I think it's like 10 games they play together. Something ridiculous. So, you know, not really, you know, coming together. So I just don't see anybody challenging Boston. And, like, it's their role players that get it. You can probably say Tatum and Brown can pound. or pound match with anybody, but like their role players, Doug, they are playing confident. When Pritchard's up for a contract, remember, they're not going to be able to keep them.
Starting point is 00:33:29 Oh, they're going to have to pay that young man. Like, he's a, he's a dog, okay? And they have these young guys coming up in confidence and just playing at an extremely high clip. So I really like Boston again, Doug. Yeah, who doesn't like watching Peyton Pritchard play? There's a dude that is dynamic and fun. Ryan, great stuff, dude.
Starting point is 00:33:49 Look forward to hear your calls. The Rockets game here, the second half of the season, and into the playoffs. Appreciate you to be our guest, as always. Anytime, Doug. Stop mixing it up, man. Go ahead and chill out a little bit, Doug. Hold back a little bit, man. Ryan, I had nothing.
Starting point is 00:34:04 I was on a plane flying recruiting. I catch his stray from LeBron. I hadn't talked about LeBron in a month and a half. Oh, my God. Was he your boy? Was he your boy on his day off? What's going on there? You're in the line of fire, Doug.
Starting point is 00:34:22 You must be doing something right, brother. But keep it up, man. And then well wishes to you, man. Good talk. Appreciate that. Rent free, Ryan. Thanks so much. Let's get you to Jason Stewart with the news.
Starting point is 00:34:32 Jay Stu? Turn on the news. This is the herd line news. Doug, I feel compelled to address what Ryan just said. Ryan just gave you a compliment. And I think that the last four. days since LeBron sent that tweet has been a net positive for Doug Gottlie for the brand that is Doug Gottlieb and by extension I think your basketball program Ryan kind of gave you props there
Starting point is 00:35:00 you got on LeBron James radar he tweeted out to 53 million people around the world about Doug Gottlieb and Green Bay basketball um I would not feel bad about this at all oh I don't feel bad about it and everybody here understands it's like it's crazy that you you're really helping us out. Obviously, records that what we want, but, you know, again, here's what I know. I know we'll start winning,
Starting point is 00:35:26 and when we start winning, I know probably about half of the negatives will fall off, but that other half will either Mayacopa or celebrate the turnaround or whatever, act like they were there the whole time, and that'll be a far greater number that can ever have a four. No, I agree with you. I mean, it's like,
Starting point is 00:35:45 the big thing, though, there's two big takeaways that that I want you to have J-S2. I don't care about the people have. One is that it's kind of always been this way with me. It's like the, even the Andrew Luck tweet. Like lots of people tweet about Andrew Luckway to try. For whatever reason, mine got picked up and became a huge thing.
Starting point is 00:36:03 So I take great pride in that. I think my bosses do as well. But I'm also, I'm not in, I don't intentionally in, um, make some incendiary comment. I don't pick fights. I don't troll people. I don't believe I do. If the topic comes up and it makes sense,
Starting point is 00:36:24 I'll give honest commentary about it. So that's what's weird about his was there was no context to it. There's no recent comment, no nothing, just kind of out of left field, which is fine, but obviously shows that somewhere along the line, something bothering it.
Starting point is 00:36:41 No doubt. No doubt. It's been a fascinating week in the world of Doug Gottlieb. I do want to bring something up. Just another one. Yeah, another one. Page Becker's. I hope I'm saying her name right.
Starting point is 00:36:53 Yeah. She's the one that a lot of people, within the last 12 months, we've been told by the people of the sick of fancy. Sick of fantish WMBA, beat riders and analysts have been telling us that, look, Paige Becker's is one of two people with Juju Watkins that are just going to take
Starting point is 00:37:11 women's basketball to the next level, even beyond. where Caitlin Clark brought it. Caitlin Clark was just a tipping point. That's what we've been told. So last night, Paige Becker's, who plays for Yukon, passed Diana Tarasi in scoring.
Starting point is 00:37:28 Most points in Yukon history, or maybe she's ninth all time. Anyways, the details do not matter, Doug. The point is, nobody's talking about Paige Becker's today. I really thought that college women's hoops had taken another step. I thought it was going to get on the national radar.
Starting point is 00:37:47 In the last couple of weeks, Juju Watkins had an amazing game against the undefeated UCLA Bruins, and it barely dinged on anybody's radar. Why is no one talking about women's college basketball, the way we were told people were going to be talking about it, Doug? I just, she's a generational star. You know, she's just generational star, and it seemed like every time we turn it on TV,
Starting point is 00:38:20 she would play up to or even exceed expectations. Caitlin Clark, you're talking about. Yeah, Caitlin Clark. Whereas Paige Beckers, who's tremendous. And I had heard her when she was in high school, and when she went to Yukon, this was like the rebirth of the Yukon program. And obviously she suffered a knee injury, and everybody felt so terrible for her, whatever.
Starting point is 00:38:41 She's had games, big games this year, where she hasn't been at her best against the best. I'd say the two things are, one, Caitlin Clark seemed to deliver in all of those big moments. Seem to, and again, I could be misremembering. I didn't watch every game. But the ones I remember, she seemed to deliver.
Starting point is 00:38:59 And the second part to it is, again, like, you just can't recreate this stuff. You just can't. You know, there have been hundreds of popular singers like Taylor Swift. There's only one Taylor Swift. only one like just the timing of it
Starting point is 00:39:19 when her albums came out the tone of it it just has all worked and she's the biggest star in music there's only one Caitlin Clark and it's honestly it's just like this happened with hockey
Starting point is 00:39:34 if you're listening in Los Angeles on AM 570 and you're old enough to remember in 1993 I was on Lake Havasu with a bunch of buddies and everyone got off the lake to watch the L.A. Kings play in the Stanley Cup finals for the first time ever. And that was when Marty McSorley had like a curved stick. Like I didn't even know sticks for curved.
Starting point is 00:40:01 I didn't know there's a limit. No way to do anything about it. I know the Kings have actually been a better team since. They've actually won the Stanley Cup since they had Wayne Gretzky on the tape. I never crossed my radar. right? And the point is, there's only one Gretzky. The point is, there's only one Caitlin Clark. There's only one Taylor Swift. And the more we come to realize, it doesn't mean that the WNBA has to go, or women's college basketball has to go back in their holes. But the over-expansion, the idea of neutral sites and putting them in domes, that's a bad play. It's still a niche sport. It has grown in popularity, but not close to the level of Caitlin Clark's popularity. Those two are not connected. And that's, uh, Jason Stewart with the news. Well, that's the news.
Starting point is 00:40:49 And thanks for stopping by. The Herd Lye News. I'm Doug Gottlieb in for Colin. Coming up next in The Herd. What sports car would you most like to own? It does relate to a big story of the news. That's part of the best for last.
Starting point is 00:41:04 That's next in The Herd. Be sure to catch live editions of The Herd weekdays in noon Eastern 9 a.m. Pacific. Hey, it's Steve Covino. And I'm Rich David. And together we're Covino and Rich on Fox Sports Radio. You could catch us weekdays from 5 to 7 p.m. Eastern, 2 to 4 Pacific on Fox Sports Radio and, of course, the IHeart Radio app.
Starting point is 00:41:22 Why should you listen to Covino and Rich? We talk about everything, life, sports, relationships, what's going on in the world? We have a lot of fun talking about the stories behind the stories in the world of sports and pop culture. Stories that, well, other shows don't seem to have the time to discuss. And the fact that we've been friends for the last 20 years and still work together, I mean, that says something, right? So check us out. We like to get you involved, too. take your phone calls, chop it up as they say.
Starting point is 00:41:47 I'd say the most interactive show on Fox Sports Radio. Maybe the most interactive show on Planet Earth. Be sure to check out Covino & Rich live on Fox Sports Radio and the IHeart Radio app from 5 to 7 p.m. Eastern, 2 to 4 Pacific. And if you miss any of the live show, just search Covino and Rich, wherever you get your podcast and, of course, on social media. That's Covino and Rich. Hey, it's us, the Jonas Brothers, and guess what?
Starting point is 00:42:08 We have some big news. What's the news, huge news? We created our own podcast called Hey Jonas. We invented a podcast? Well, we didn't invent it. We just contributed to it. We're the first people to do podcasts.
Starting point is 00:42:20 Pretty, yeah, pretty wide range of podcasts throughout there. But this one's extra special. So how did we actually come up with a name, Hey Jonas, guys? I honestly don't remember. I think it was on a call about what we should call it. Well, we were thinking I'm originally calling it one of the early names of our band. Before Jonas Brothers was... This is how you guys remember it going down?
Starting point is 00:42:44 Yes. I have a very different memory of this. We were talking about a thing, a bit for the podcast, people could call in and say, Hey, Jonas. And then I wrote down on my little notepad, Hey Jonas, and offered it up as a potential title for the podcast. But thanks for remembering that, guys. Listen to Hey Jonas on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcast.
Starting point is 00:43:03 Just listen. We don't care where you hear it. Another podcast from some SNL, late-night comedy guy, not quite. Unhumor me with Robert Smygel and friends. me and hilarious guests from Bob Odenkirk to David Letterman help make you funnier. This week, my guest, SNL's Mikey Day and head writer Streeter Seidel help an a cappella band with their between songs banter.
Starting point is 00:43:25 Where does your group perform? We do some retirement homes. Those people are starving for banter. Listen to humor me with Robert Smigel and Friends on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. The story I've told myself about love or relationships can then shape my behavior, and that can lead me to sabotage the possibility of connection.
Starting point is 00:43:48 This Mental Health Awareness Month, tune into the podcast deeply well with Debbie Brown and explore the journey of healing, self-discovery, and returning to yourself. We explore higher consciousness, emotional well-being, and the practices that help you find clarity, peace, and self-mastery in a world that can feel overwhelming. The world is becoming lonelier. not becoming more social and connected. We're becoming more individualized, but we actually need people in connection. If you've been searching for a soft place to land while doing the work to become whole,
Starting point is 00:44:23 this podcast is for you to hear more. Listen to deeply well with Debbie Brown from the Black Effect Podcast Network on the Iheart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcast. What's up, fam, this Isaiah Thomas. And I'm CJ Toledano and our podcast Point Game. is about defying the odds. Like LeBron heading into the playoffs without Luca and Austin Reed.
Starting point is 00:44:45 And finding ways to win no matter what. He's the smartest player to ever play the game. His IQ is at a level that we've never seen before. And he knows. Without Luca and Austin Reeves, I got to manipulate the game.
Starting point is 00:44:58 We get a player's perspective on the challenges of the playoffs. I think Joker's gonna be exhausted this series because when they don't have Rudy in the lineup, he has to really guard guys like Nas Reid. He has to guard Julius Randall. And then he has to give us everything he gives us on the night-to-night basis on offense.
Starting point is 00:45:15 And when IT's friends stop by, like Quentin Richardson, we dive into some playoff history too. Steve Nass would get that thing. That man, hell get the flying. He running up the court, licking his fingers why he got the ball. Like, after you go through a training camp with that, Isaiah, you figure it out real quick. Get your ass up and down the court, and you're going to get the ball. So listen to Point Game on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Doug Gally been for Colin.
Starting point is 00:45:41 It's the Hurt, Fox Sports Radio, IHeart Radio app. I got some NBA games back tonight, a bunch of college basketball games tonight. Things getting back into full swing. But we like to wrap up this show with a little best for last. It's almost the end of the show, but that doesn't mean we're phoning it in. Nope, we grind to the very last segment. It's time for best for last. The best for last.
Starting point is 00:46:08 So we saw this story. about a little bit earlier. Which Cavender is he dating? Carson Beck, who's now the quarterback of the Miami Hurricanes, transferred in from Georgia, dating one of the Cavender twins. The report came out earlier today.
Starting point is 00:46:23 Two of their cars were stolen. One's a Mercedes, another one's a Lamborghini. Which is, again, the idea of having a Lamborghini blows my mind, that having a Lamborghini in college is crazy. Crazy. What that triggered inside Jay Stu's
Starting point is 00:46:39 mind is, Lamborghini sounds fun, but I'm sure that's the one car i would want to drive the most so part of our best for last is let's have a discussion um ryan i'll bring you in on this and j stew if there's one exx does that to be exotic or just sports car or one car you want to drive get in the world what would it be uh personally um i i've always said this before i die i want to own a Porsche and it's one of those little ones. What are they? Boxsters.
Starting point is 00:47:14 Why do you want a Porsche not, a Boxer on 9-11? Do they still make 9-11s? Whatever. Yes. One of those cool little Porsches that have almost zero practical use. They're just badass looking and you could drive fast. That's what I want.
Starting point is 00:47:31 On a producer's salary, I can't do that. So I'm going to need to make a lot of money soon. Or maybe Doug Gottlieb can get me one for Christmas. The last part is definitely not happening. Not at all. My birthday, though. Thank you. Also not happening. But it doesn't have to be on your salary, right?
Starting point is 00:47:51 That's not part of it. No, you're right. I was just saying the like ability of you ever own in a poor. This is like an imaginary thing. Okay, Ryan, what would you drive? You can get one thing. Well, I'm not really a car guy, but I guess maybe like a big old BMW, BMW, Fordor,
Starting point is 00:48:09 something like that. I'm not too picky. What's the house of horsepower? I don't know. Two horses? Well, there's the eight-s-owner. There's the smaller.
Starting point is 00:48:18 The five series, the middle. The seven-series is the big one. Okay, so the Ms are their super turbo-powered fast ones. You can get an M-5. You can get an M-7. There's a bunch of different options. Just give me the biggest one. There you go.
Starting point is 00:48:31 That's the seven-series. There you go. Ultimate driving machine. You want the Alpina seven-series? Sure, yeah. It's like $200,000. Is that your jam? Yeah, and make it bulletproof like James Bond.
Starting point is 00:48:42 There you go. Why does that be bulletproof? I don't know. Why not? You know, honestly, if I'm paying $200,000, it better be bulletproof. Why does that be bulletproof? He lives in L.A., dog. And?
Starting point is 00:48:57 You know, you ever heard a thing called Driving While Black? You never know. I've heard of a thing. How many people who are driving while Black have been, shot in a beamer driving down the 405? I would say it's probably more than like this year. Are you asking me? In any year?
Starting point is 00:49:18 I would say it's probably more than you think, I'm guessing. I would say a lot less than you think. Okay. But okay. We can Google it if you want. Do you want me to Google it right now? You Google. Okay.
Starting point is 00:49:28 I'll do that right now. You Google. Okay. And I'll share with you my list. All right. All right. So look, you have. have the American-made Mustang or the Corvette.
Starting point is 00:49:42 The new Corvettes are pretty amazing, right? They are pretty amazing. It's a hard call, though. And this is actually a perfect area of the country. So most people in Wisconsin, Upper Midwest, you have a summer car, you know, that you cover up and you never use real-wheel drive, whatever, can be anything from an old Mustang to, now, you know my dream car. I guess you don't know what my dream car is, because you don't know what my favorite
Starting point is 00:50:08 movie is. Don't you my favorite movie is, Chase, too? Um, man. Have you, have you told me that's a few good men? No. Ferris Bueller. You are, no? Let me guess. I bet it's, uh, the last Jedi. Is not the last Jedi. Oh, no, smoking the bandit. Smoking the bandit. Yeah. Smoking the bandit. Okay. And what does he drive?
Starting point is 00:50:32 You still make transams? They don't still make transams, but I want a 77 transam. Nice. Black with the gold, with the gold wheels, you know. I want it all cleaned up and all redone, and then I want to soup up the engine. Heck, yeah, with the T-tops. But I want the T-tops to make sure they don't rattle. And Sally Field and the passenger seat.
Starting point is 00:50:53 Frog. Frog. I don't know if I want Sally Field the passenger seat now, though. Although we would get the handicapped parking because she's older, so she'd get the handicapped parking. That's the only thing. So maybe not Sally Field. but you get the idea. I can't imagine that you have your dream car,
Starting point is 00:51:11 and then you walk outside to go to class the next day, you're like, bleep, bleep, wait, where's my car? My Lamborghini got stolen. Imagine calling the insurance guy. Yeah, my Lamborghini got stolen? Yeah, I have a Lamborghini. I'm Doug Gottlie. This is The Hurt.
Starting point is 00:51:29 Hey, guys, it's us. The Jonas Brothers. I'm Joe. I'm Kevin. And I'm Nick. And guess what? We created our own podcast called, called Hey Jonas. We invented a podcast?
Starting point is 00:51:38 Well, we didn't invent it. We just contributed to it. We're the first people to do podcasts. We get to ask other people questions because we're sick and tired of being asked questions. Well, sick and tired is a strong way to put it, but, you know, tired and sick. Tired and sick. Listen to Hey Jonas on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcast. Just listen.
Starting point is 00:51:56 We don't care where you hear it.
Starting point is 00:52:19 Those people are starving for banter. Listen to humor me with Robert Smigel and friends on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts.
