Starting point is 00:00:00 This is an I-Heart podcast. Guaranteed Human. Another podcast from some SNL, late-night comedy guy, not quite. Unhumor me with Robert Smygel and friends. Me and hilarious guests from Bob Odenkirk to David Letterman help make you funnier. This week, my guest,
Starting point is 00:00:16 SNL's Mikey Day and head writer Streeter Seidel help an a cappella band with their between songs banter. Where does your group perform? We do some retirement homes. Those people are starving for banter. Listen to humor me with Robert Smigel and friends on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Imagine an Olympics where doping is not only legal, but encouraged.
Starting point is 00:00:39 It's the enhanced games. Some call it grotesque. Others say it's unleashing human potential. Either way, the podcast's Superhuman documented it all, embedded in the games and with the athletes for a full year. Within probably 10 days, I'd put on 10 pounds. I was having trouble stopping the muscle growth. Listen to Superhuman on the I-Hard Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts.
Starting point is 00:01:04 Hey, this is Robert from the Stuff to Blow Your Mind podcast. Listen to Stuff to Bole Your Mind on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. A win is a win. A win is a win.

You're listening to Fox Sports Radio. Hour 3 live in Los Angeles. It's the herd wherever you may be. However you may be listening. IHeart Radio, Fox Sports Radio, and FS1, 4 Super Bowl times,
Starting point is 00:02:46 two-time MVP, four Super Bowl championships. A decade and a half of greatness now. He's been at Fox. He started this thing, The Simpsons and Terry Bradshaw. The Simpsons. You started this thing rolling. I jumped on at the very end. I was part of it.
Starting point is 00:02:59 No, I was part of it, for sure. Bart Simpson and you. And then I jumped on in gravy train, Terry Bradshaw. Yeah, it was, there's a picture in the hallway. You've seen it? Of course. And it's like, wow, that was the first Fox broadcasting team. All the broadcasters, the game guys, and the studio guys.
Starting point is 00:03:23 And most, all the game guys are gone. Every one of them are gone. Well, you got rid of them. I got rid of nobody. You didn't like anything. Just get those guys out of here. Wasn't Collinsworth here? Later.
Starting point is 00:03:36 Later. Later. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Let me ask you a question. Okay. Did you ever put your shoes on and they were filled with peanuts? Nope, never happened. You never got shoes with peanuts in them?
Starting point is 00:03:47 Why, what's that? Because I filled your shoes up with peanuts. I heard about that. You see, the prankster. Somebody told me. Well, you've got so many shoes and so I picked them. I picked the, prettiest ones that I thought
Starting point is 00:04:01 you would wear it and I'd fill them up with peanuts and I never heard anything I said I know he's going to gripe. Not a word dead gummit. All right. By the way Jason McIntyre's new to the show he's a wonderful guy. Great family guy. Good to see you Jason. He's an athlete. He's a grinder. Love him.
Starting point is 00:04:17 Terrific guy. So what would you play? I played basically everything. Soccer, tennis, basketball. One of those guys plays everything. I'm not a goal for them. No. But no contact sports. I do some contact sports soccer yeah soccer could be contact basketball is out of context
Starting point is 00:04:32 oh no you hit your legs in soccer and you go oh oh they can be a little dramatic I'm not a quarterback like this oh this guy here's the best big arm so let me let me say this so it's I want to start with something near and dear to you is that because
Starting point is 00:04:49 Steelers have a huge fan base and as the Jets can attest to it's hard to find the right guy but Kenny Pickett in Pittsburgh What do you see? I want your opinion on that. I saw
Starting point is 00:05:04 I watched him all four years at Pitt. Yeah. I loved him. When Pittsburgh drafted him, a perfect match. Is he a super A talent? No. But he is on upper echelon B.
Starting point is 00:05:21 He's not... Okay. Okay. Jimmy G. got to a Super Bowl being that. Yeah. And, yeah. Yeah, and I love Jimmy G. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:05:29 I think they have their guy. Yeah. He, as I told you, he almost has the it thing. And I think if you can not have the it thing and get the it thing, he's a guy that can get it. Okay. Once they put the pieces, what they put some pieces around him, they got a really good wide receiver. Tight end I like. Naji Harris.
Starting point is 00:05:51 Nogie is. O-lines a little suspect, Harry. Very suspect. And once they figure it. He needs a couple more really big time. Hey, look, they all do. I think the Steelers have got their guy, okay? And that's the key.
Starting point is 00:06:04 Absolutely. And here's the key for me, as you know this. You don't have to have, you can have an arm like Billy Kilmer. Right. As long as you can stand in that pocket and re-coverses and not panic. And he does all of that. So I want to go to this because the Garoppolo thing is interesting. My takeaway is, listen.
Starting point is 00:06:24 if you don't have to pay your quarterback, $38 million are up. There you go. And it's 28 and I can surround him. Or 18. Okay. 18? What's he getting? 18 million?
Starting point is 00:06:35 So here's how I judge Garoppel. 18 million. I like Garoppel because you know what? On third down, you'll stick it in tight coverage. He's not you. He's not Aikman. And I think, and I'll say this, I think those players love him. He's a guy's guy.
Starting point is 00:06:49 Here's what's so great about Jimmy G. And I love him. I defend him. I don't care how bad he plays. I defend him because I see a lot of him. I see a lot of me in him. And the fact about he just goes out and plays and it's almost like,
Starting point is 00:07:06 oh, I'm that bad? Oh, I didn't know how it was that bad. And it doesn't bother him. It doesn't. And they kept him away from the team. But never better. He practiced on another field. He never took us.
Starting point is 00:07:19 No. No. The thing about Jimmy, Gropolo, talking about folks from 49ers is that he got his chance he didn't pout he came in and he just picked up like he'd been the starter all year i love the guy i love the way delivers the football there are two quarterbacks i love watching throw the football tom brady and gropolo i love the way they deliver the football and he's just one of those guys man and i go back to the super bowl against the chiefs
Starting point is 00:07:48 and i know my wife is watching right now hey babe i love you and uh when he missed that post route down the middle. Oh, that was a, you know, they had the big lead. He outplayed Mahomes for three quarters. For three quarters. And that was, that play was huge. Yeah. That was huge. But I love the guy. And what you said was right. And we don't have, we won't have that in some of these quarterbacks. They're going to, they're going to overstate their value. And therefore, the teams are going to have a hard time signing them. They're going to say, well, wait a minute, wait a minute. I'm a starter. I want 35 million a year. and what the team is going to have to say is, yes, you're the starter, but you're not great.
Starting point is 00:08:28 I don't know how you tell the quarterback you're not that. Well, hopefully as an agent, you can get the message through the agent. He'll say, look, we'll give you $20 a year, and then that's going to leave us $15 million to get some people around you. See, a lot of these places, you look at Aaron Rogers and Green Bay, need some people around him. 50 million takes a lot of that money. Russell and Denver now is going to have that issue. Well, he got what he deserved. I said this Sunday on the show, grass isn't always greener.
Starting point is 00:08:57 Be careful what you wish for. Then you get there, and now you're messing with your legacy. You know, playing poorly. You said you never wanted to play for anybody else. You were all Steelers. Right. So I want to talk about this because the world was different. Heck, you play your first, you didn't even have coordinators.
Starting point is 00:09:13 It was you and Chuck Null. You didn't have a quarterback coach. No. Now it's like you have a social media manager. You have sports talk radio. So there's part of me that where I feel bad, because I don't think I would have been mature enough at 22 to stand in front of the New York media. Me either. I would have been a...
Starting point is 00:09:28 No, I'd have been dumb. Done. But we have to contextualize this. Also, these kids now all have media helpers, managers, agents. I think this was Baker's issue. You're talking about Wish Wilson now? I'm talking, Zach Wilson. Okay.
Starting point is 00:09:43 This was Baker's issue. It's Zach's issue. They butcher the press conference. And it ticks off teammates. Right. Now, you, you didn't, I mean, you had the Pittsburgh Post Gazette and maybe one radio station. Vito Stalino, Glenn Shealy. And by the way, if you said something wrong, he'd probably come back and say, Terry, what'd you mean by that? Now it goes to the world.
Starting point is 00:10:04 So you, yeah, I know exactly what you're saying. It's so hard. If I took my career and as immature as I was then, and it took me, I don't know that I ever, really grew up, you know. I don't think I've actually matured yet. But you were a grown-up, but I got, no, here's what happened. My career was going down the tubes. And I was in and out of the lineup, and I was sitting home in my apartment in Pittsburgh. And I got so mad, so mad at myself. All right, I didn't have an agent, I didn't have people pat me on the back and love it on me, which is what I wanted. Right.
Starting point is 00:10:51 So I had to sit there and I said, way to go. You're just letting a career get away from you because of what people are saying, because of the coach, whatever excuse I wanted to come up with that satisfied me. I got mad. I got so frigging mad at myself for allowing that to happen that I finally said, no more. And from this day forward, no more. And that's when I started becoming a quarterback.
Starting point is 00:11:21 When I developed a tough skin, and I actually got, I used this word, but it doesn't really represent me, nasty. I would think, say you were a guy that said a bunch of bad things because I played for to last week and you come in. And then I'd look at you and I'd, I just, I would take it from you. But I thought, you know what? You know, here's what I think about you. But I wouldn't say it.
Starting point is 00:11:46 Yeah. But that's how I approached it. And that, that got me, that developed the tough skin, the tough attitude that you need to play the quarterback position. And I think about Baker, I never was a Baker Mayfield fan. Yeah. Never. Yeah. Wilson, I was a fan of Wilson, still am.
Starting point is 00:12:06 Zach Wilson quarterback with the Jets. He needs to get like I got. He came out of BYU. How many years did he start at BYU? One? Was it one? I think it, one and a half. One and a half years, okay?
Starting point is 00:12:20 Protected and so on and so forth. And now he goes into a press conference. And when you screw up, the best thing, you're not going to win that war with the press. Nope. You just go in and say, hey, man, I screwed up. What happened today? I don't know. Well, could you not read the coverage?
Starting point is 00:12:38 I thought I could. You answer the questions, but you take the, you take the shots and you take them and you walk out of there. and then those guys will respect you, and then when you play well, they'll say nice things about you. Then when you don't play well, they'll say bad things about you. But you get that balance, okay?
Starting point is 00:12:56 Yeah. Where you don't allow them to get inside. And that's what Brady has. Well, maybe Rogers has it, maybe doesn't. I think Mahomes has never had a bad game. Peyton Manning never had a bad game. Elway never had bad. There are certain players that are so,
Starting point is 00:13:16 phenomenal. Yeah. They never face that. They don't have bad stretches. Yeah. Bad quarters, bad half. I had bad years. You know, then finally you just get it.
Starting point is 00:13:28 Let me ask you this. And I got some pushback for this, but I said my whole life, I, even Marino, when you play in 74 degrees. Yeah. A lot. And then you go up to Baltimore and it's blowing sideways or Buffalo. Right. Those charger teams, remember that. Fouts team that went to Cincinnati and they were just dropping everything.
Starting point is 00:13:50 And my takeaway is I love what Miami's doing. I thought they'd be a playoff team. But I do worry about a smaller quarterback without a big arm going to Windy, Kansas City, Buffalo, Baltimore, Cincinnati, outdoors. I do think, and I've seen this in the NBA where the Phoenix Suns years ago had the Steve Nash teams. They were built for the regular season. But they didn't have the toughness for the playoffs.
Starting point is 00:14:13 Miami I look at and I think, can that team win in January? Hey, let me answer that. Absolutely. You think so? Absolutely. All the guys at Fox will tell you, I love Miami. From the very moment that Tua was drafted, I have always been a Tua fan. I watched him at Alabama. Oh, yeah, he's surrounded with all these number ones.
Starting point is 00:14:36 But, I mean, Colin, he is so accurate. He is. He is so. He's so poised. Nothing bothers him. He's got everything you want in a quarterback. the gun. But dang, is he quick. By like, great.
Starting point is 00:14:50 Also, great at the podium. Falls on the sword. Falls on it. They wanted Deshawn Watson. Brian Flores didn't like him. He shows up at the podium, sense of humor. He's really good at the podium.
Starting point is 00:15:02 And they always are saying, well, we got to get her quarterback. This was a huge mistake. We could have Herbert. We took him over Herbert. Never bothers him. No. For all our viewers out there,
Starting point is 00:15:13 I'm telling you, this guy's a real deal. I love him. And he had, they got what? We went out and got players for him. They went out and got Waddle and watched him a doodle from Kansas City. Tyreek Hill. Tyreek Hill. And they run the football and they play great defense.
Starting point is 00:15:29 And he just gets up there and slings it. For a guy, six feet, maybe six one if we're pushing it. Probably six feet. Watch how quick he gets rid of the foot. He is so smart. Yeah. It's gone. I love it.
Starting point is 00:15:44 Okay. So. But you don't. don't buy it. You don't buy it. No, I can tell. You're not. No, no, come. No, you're not. I don't love him. I love him. I love you. There's a lot of, I love pasta. Can we say that on this air right now? But I like him. I like him. Yeah. I love Burrow. So I love, so I love Burrow. So I, yes, I see where you're going here. I love, you love the guy in Buffalo. I love the love, I love my homes. Yes. Burroughs are fun, because, so you watch the Steelers last
Starting point is 00:16:12 week. So you saw Burrow. And I, and I talk to Joe regularly because I have a podcast thing with him. Joe Burrow, you have a podcast with Joe Burrow? So I talked to him every week. And you know what I love about Joe? When you're really confident, you don't have to say it. He and I said, God, that game, you didn't have Chase. You didn't have mixing. Kind of choppy. And he said, you know what, man? I just saw it coming. I just saw the good stuff coming. When you, I thought Burrow was going to be Tony Romo. It was pretty good. He, by six games in, I'm like, whoa. I made a mistake. Who does Burrow remind you of?
Starting point is 00:16:46 Doesn't that a huge arm? Not the most mobile guy, but Terry? Oh, no. I think he's plenty mobile. I didn't know. Here's a guy was under the same offensive coordinator at LSU for two years. Yeah. The second year, look what he did.
Starting point is 00:17:01 Exploded. Exploded. They didn't lose a game but won the championship. And the thing about Joe Burrow, it's got a very good arm, not a halitzer, smart, anticipation, very accurate. Really accurate. And here's the thing about Joe Burrell.
Starting point is 00:17:17 Hey, I had a bad game, you know. You have them. I don't want to have them. I'll, you know, bounce back. Short memory. Yeah, you've got to have it. Yeah. I remember one time I just got blasted in Pittsburgh, and I deserved it.
Starting point is 00:17:33 Yeah. I deserved. I got so doggone mad at the press. Yeah. I mean, I'm just, I'm wanting to say, he wasn't playing. wasn't playing. I'm trying to come up with all these excuses and why I played bad. The following week, I didn't talk to anybody when I threw five touchdown passes. So that was a proud moment for me because I got hammered and I've responded.
Starting point is 00:17:54 And I think Burrow is a guy who does that. I just love the fact that he's had bad games, man. No chase. I don't think my homes has ever had a bad game, has he? Not really? I would say, wouldn't you say, this is funny about. my homes. I had somebody tell me this when he started getting great. They said even in college he kind of mechanically goes into the weeds and you got to get him
Starting point is 00:18:20 because he's so gifted Terry. Too gifted. Right. You had this. When your arm is so great, you can rely in your talent and sometimes you'll bring him back in. So he'll have really, man. Yes. By the way, Josh Allen
Starting point is 00:18:33 in the red zone gets a little comfortable with his arm strength. Yeah. Got to bring him back in a little bit. But I will say what makes, I want to talk Mahomes for a second because what I find fascinating, it's much tougher. The difference between the great quarterbacks and everybody else is the great ones can play from behind.
Starting point is 00:18:50 Everybody plays with a run game and a lead. Everybody looks, everybody. That's the only way to play. Mahomes wins over 50% of his games, and I believe the number is when he trails at one point by 10. I didn't see it's incredible.
Starting point is 00:19:06 Yeah, for sure. I don't even know what his comp was. What was his comp? Have you ever seen anybody pre-Mahombs that you thought is a little Mahomes? I don't remember anybody. No. Sidearm. Well, here's the thing about Mahomes.
Starting point is 00:19:20 When he came out of Texas Tech, I paid no attention to him. Why? Because he ran that offense. Ran that offense. And everybody that runs that offense, Jason, is what? They're just, they come in, they can't read coverages. La, da, la, la, they're just history. And then all of a sudden you hear, boy, this Mahomes guy in training camp,
Starting point is 00:19:37 This Mahomes guy, and you're going, I remember that guy at Texas Tech. Bingo, he had it. We saw way too many of those guys come out of the running, shooting all those crazy offenses. Big 12 quarterbacks were terrible. Look, that's why Ohio State always makes me nervous when those quarterbacks come out of there because they got all that talent and they're reading and got an option post. It's the post. It's the flag.
Starting point is 00:20:00 It's the flag. They come open late. You don't see a lot of read and turn. And they come out and they've got to learn all those things. Fields has got to learn all of that. That's right. And that's why they run a 4-4-40, and everybody's sitting here going, gee, many Christmas. It's hard to do.
Starting point is 00:20:15 Mahomes doesn't run a 4-4-40, but he's fast enough. He's gifted as I'll get out. Sneaky. I mean, he's sneaky in a pocket. Clever. Great feel for the pocket. And he holds the ball with one hand while he's moving around. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:20:30 He's an amazing guy. He is. And I love the guy in Buffalo, too. And he learned, you know, he wasn't accurate. Like you, he played it. Never on TV. When he went to Wyoming. Yeah, I mean, cold weather, isolated.
Starting point is 00:20:42 And like me, he sometimes says, well, my arm can beat this, you know, I can beat this coverage with my arm in the NFL. It's not that easy. It's interesting, isn't it? Yes. You think it's a great, the arm strength, everybody loves the arm strength. A lot of busts with strong arms. If it's over, if you've got to go over 20 yards, you better pack that arm and pull it back because they're going to catch up with you. over 20 yards. Well, go back to your early, because I remember you, I've told you this before,
Starting point is 00:21:11 the way you held the ball is how all kids held the ball. Terry put his finger on the point. Yeah, held it the wrong way. Delivered it the wrong way. But, but you and Namath, when you have a great arm, you want to show everybody your great arm. That's not true. Terry, you had a big arm. I had a big arm. And you like showing it off. I did not like showing it off. I did. Well, maybe I did. You did. But you like. No, no, come. No, no. That's not true. I never saw you throw a screen pass. Well, I didn't throw many.
Starting point is 00:21:45 They're too short. No, it, you learn, it's like, it's good to have the horsepower when you need it, but you learn to be a really effective quarterback. It's all about anticipation, timing, reading the coverage properly. Look, let's not kid ourselves. That was a 51.9% completion. Well, it's a different era. Totally different now.
Starting point is 00:22:07 So, I mean, but it's a lot. If I had to get it, if I had to get it down there, I could get it down there. All right. You know, that's it's just going to let me say that and just leave it. Well, it's 21 minutes. Oh, we're done. Well, you thought you got short changed? No, I thought I had 40 minutes today.
Starting point is 00:22:26 They told me 40. They said the show was in the tanker to come out for 40 minutes. I drove all away from the beach to talk. I haven't even said Thanksgiving. Happy Thanksgiving, everybody. Happy Thanksgiving, everyone. Now you're going to do it here. You're going to hold your Thanksgiving.
Starting point is 00:22:42 I'll be here tomorrow. And Thanksgiving's here? Are you flying back? No, no, no. I'm here all week. I got here last Friday. I'll be here until Tuesday I head up to back to New Haven, go back to Yale University,
Starting point is 00:22:55 and then I'll get home Tuesday. Are you going to go speak at Yale? No, no. I'll go to the hospital at Yale. Go see my doctor's here at Yale. I've been there before. Ever gone to the dinosaur museum at Yale? No.
Starting point is 00:23:05 Unbelievable. No, I haven't. You've never gone to it? Have you? Two things. He's never been out of L.A. Best pizza. I can look at him and tell he's never been out.
Starting point is 00:23:13 I just moved here six years ago. From where? From the East Coast. Oh, okay. Best pizza in the country. Go to Peffey's in New Hayek. You know Peffey's Pizza? Yeah.
Starting point is 00:23:22 Best pizza in the country. Yes, absolutely. Connecticut's got great pizza. Yes. And the Dinosaur Museum on the campus of Yale. I went to the 50-yard line at Yale University and had my picture taken at the Yale Bowl. Could you have gotten into Yale? What?
Starting point is 00:23:38 If it was a cumulative, I couldn't. I couldn't get in there. You've got to have like a 4-0 to get in you. Are you kidding? No. They didn't even recruit me. Are you kidding? All right.
Starting point is 00:23:49 I went to Louisiana Tech's engineering school. So I got a PE degree there. Well, yeah. Did you go in for engineering and then move to P. Petroleum Engineering. I got a P.E. Like a college. I thought a P.E.
Starting point is 00:24:03 No, I'm kidding. You're right. It was P.E. That's a good. I'm going to steal that. No, you can have it. All right, thanks. You can have it.
Starting point is 00:24:11 So that's it for me. That's it. Hall of Famer Terry Bratch, I wish, and all you happy Thanksgiving. All right. Back in a second. In LA, it's the herd. Be sure to catch live editions of the herd weekdays in noon Eastern, 9 a.m. Pacific. On Fox Sports Radio, FS1, and the IHeard Radio app.
Starting point is 00:24:28 Imagine an Olympics where doping is not only legal, but encouraged. It's the enhanced games. Some call it grotesque. Others say it's unleashing human potential. Either way, the podcast, Superhuman, documented it all, embedded in the games and with the athletes for a full year. Within probably 10 days, I'd put on 10 pounds. I was having trouble stopping the muscle growth. Listen to Superhuman on the I-Hard Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts.
Starting point is 00:24:57 A win is a win. A win is a win. I don't care what you're saying. Yep, that's me, Cliver Taylor the 4th. Or when Kanye said that George Bush didn't like black people. I know what you're thinking. What the hell does George Bush got to do a little kill? Well, you can find out on the Look Back at it podcast.
Starting point is 00:26:44 I'm Sam J. And I'm Alex English. Each episode, we pick it here, unpack what went down, and try to make sense of how we survived it. Including a recent episode with Mark Lamont Hill, waxing all about crack in the 80s. To be clear, 84 is big to me, not just because of crack. I'm down to talk about crack on day, but just so y'all know. I mean, at this point, Mark, this is the second episode where we've discussed cracks. I'm starting to see that there's a through line.
Starting point is 00:27:09 We also have AIDS on the table right now. Thank you for finishing that sentence. I don't think there's a more important year for black people. Really? Yeah. For me, it's one of the most important years for black people in American history. Listen to look back at it on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Colin, which team will win and by how much Giants Cowboys? I will go Dallas by four. Yeah, I'm going to say Dallas, um, Dallas kind of an ugly 27, 23 win. ugly. I don't know how the Giants score a lot. They're injured so badly at receiver, secondary.
Starting point is 00:28:11 How's the weather? The weather is going to be okay? I think it's going to be fine. Is it? It's in Dallas, right? Okay. Yeah, yeah. Yeah, I think it's just, I think New York has more than once this year between ground game and defensive front has brought offenses down. They stay in games. They ugly it up. They try to extend their drives. I think the Giants are being a little bit exposed. I'll tell you the team, you know, early in the season, you see teams and you think, oh, wow, and then they get exposed. Go look at the Seattle Seahawks schedule.
Starting point is 00:28:46 They're going to win double-digit games. They're going to win like they could win 11 games. They don't, they got because Arizona stinks and the Rams stink. Those were like you could go 0 and 2 against them. So they're 2 and 0 against Arizona and Seattle's not going anywhere. Not going anywhere. J. Mack with the news. No, no, no, no, no.
Starting point is 00:29:06 Turn on the news. This is the herd line news. Right, Colin, let's go back. Revisit again the big story of the day. Zach Wilson benched by the New York Jets. He will not be active against the Bears this weekend. Mike White, starting Joe Flacco. I think he's 37.
Starting point is 00:29:23 Yeah. Is going to be the backup. At Robert Salas press conference this morning, he gave some insight into how Wilson reacted to the news. What was Zach's reaction when he gave him the news? What you would expect from a player that he's not ready for the, or not that he's not ready, but it's like, why now, why me? I want to play. And, you know, obviously, but you expect that. And but after a great conversation, I think we're on the same page.
Starting point is 00:29:55 Is he, does he want to be on the field? Of course he does. But I know if there's anyone that's going to be on the sideline chairing and ruin his teammates on and hoping Mike White freaking dominates, it's going to be him. Why me? A little self-aware, lack of self-awareness. Well, I mean, he's probably bummed out. He's a young guy. He's kind of bummed out about it, don't you think?
Starting point is 00:30:17 Yeah, I think he's a little bit bummed to be benched 20 games into his career. Thanksgiving week in New York, where you're the number one story in, I mean, number one story in sports pretty much right now, right? In the NFL, also. Well, no, we let our show with it. Yeah. Yeah. I think it's a real story. It's a bummer.
Starting point is 00:30:34 All right, let's move on. Odell Beckham, Colin, still in the market. All signs point to him making a decision on his next team soon. Cowboys and Giants have been vocal about their efforts to sign him. Dax said he told Odell how much he wants him in Dallas and the feeling is mutual. But Giants receiver Sterling Shepard said he talks to Odell often and knows he would love to be back in New York. According to Fox Bet, these are the two teams with the best odds to land him. Cowboys plus 125.
Starting point is 00:31:02 giant second at plus 300. Is there a dark horse we're not considering out there? He's not going to like Tennessee, right? Somebody said, Alex said in my ear, Kansas City. Well, they did just, Cadarius Tony got hurt his hamstring. The guy who was coming from the Giants. I know. And you know they would make it work.
Starting point is 00:31:22 And you have a strong enough coach and strong enough quarterback presence. You could, the OB thing would be a non-faggot. OBJ, when he was in Cleveland, Baker wasn't established. the coach wasn't established and he kind of took over the room and I'm not blaming O'BJ but he was very big for the room but if he came to a Dallas with Dak if he went to a Kansas City with Mahomes and Reed
Starting point is 00:31:43 he'd fit in and be great I'll float him since you keep talking about him Seattle Seahawks they have Metcalf and Lockett but I mean you had Odell to that offense with Kenneth Walker in the backfield I'm well they have they have kind of a I mean like
Starting point is 00:31:59 Metcalf's, they're one. Lockett's a very dependable two. I don't think they need OBJ. You think Odell's maybe waiting around if you never want to say somebody gets hurt. Odell can asking price just went up. Like right now Dallas Giants, there's not like a bidding war, I don't think, for Odell. It's more like the players are saying, hey, Odell, come play with us.
Starting point is 00:32:21 If you were his agent, isn't Dallas the only? Oh, 100%. I mean, it's just an easy one. By the way, he lost. I believe he lost some money. Remember he got paid in Bitcoin or cryptocurrency? That's right. I mean, seriously.
Starting point is 00:32:32 So it's like, if you're sitting there thinking I can have New York taxes or Dallas, I mean, seriously, if you sign a contract, you could save hundreds of thousands or a million dollars. He also sued some shoe company, apparel company. I forget which one. So it's like, I think he, if you go look at it, he took money and cryptocurrency salary, that all washed up. He played for free for the ram. According to the stories, it looks like if he took it all, his salary all in cryptocurrency,
Starting point is 00:32:58 Did he play free for the Rams? Yeah. Not ideal. Not ideal. All right. Final story. We'll go to the World Cup. There's a good game coming up.
Starting point is 00:33:07 Friday, USA, England. Now, the big story here, Gio Raina did not play in the first match against Wales for the U.S. Battled injuries throughout the year, said after the draw, he's 100% healthy. Greg Burholter, the coach, said they decided to take a cautious approach with Raina. And it sounds like he's going to be good to go Friday. Unclear if he's going to start or come off the bench. Also, there's a big injury to Harry Kane, the England striker. He's having a scan on his foot.
Starting point is 00:33:34 I haven't seen if the results are out yet. Unclear if he's going to start play. I mean, I'm sure he's going to be okay. But it's just a big one, Colin. Big England-U.S. game. Let's temper our enthusiasm. If I told you they lost 2-1, would you be satisfied? No.
Starting point is 00:33:49 We need a tie. If you lose this match and Wales gets the W over Iran, I think we're probably done. Stinks. They got to push for the tie. You know, the game of the tournament so far, Canada, Belgium. We have an update. Great game. It's happening now. Still, I think, Zero, Canada had a PK, the keeper for Belgium, allegedly the best of the world made a great save.
Starting point is 00:34:13 How about this earlier? Spain scored a touchdown. 7-0-0 win over Costa Rica. We haven't mentioned that Japan beat Germany. Oh, that was a tremendous game if you woke up early this morning. How about the play by, Japan's goalie. Oh, Japan goalie was an outstanding stopping Germany, and then Japan scored like two goals in the final like 20 minutes.
Starting point is 00:34:34 It was pretty thrilling. This is what I love about the World Cup. Like the entire country gets behind a team, and when you see the photos from Japan, and like people are freaking out in the streets, like coming back to beat Germany. We've already had two massive upsets. Saudi Arabia beat Argentina.
Starting point is 00:34:51 And as Stu Holden, who's on the Fox team, pointed out, remember the U.S.'s final two tuneups were against Japan. and Saudi we did not score. And now it's like, oh, wait, Japan and Saudi Arabia are good. So maybe we're not that bad, which goes back to your point. Like, hey, we're still in this, guys. You know, we played great against Wales. Let's get that result against England.
Starting point is 00:35:11 J-Mack with the news. Well, that's the news. And thanks for stopping by. The Herd Lye News. Be sure to catch live editions of The Herd weekdays in noon Eastern 9 a.m. Pacific. He's by Carmen. I'm Dan Byrd. We have a brand new fantasy football podcast.

For me, it's one of the most important years for black people in American history.
Starting point is 00:38:57 Listen to look back at it on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. The U.S. kicked off their World Cup against Wales on Monday. A spectacular play by Christian Pulisic set up a goal by Timothy Wea that gave the U.S. a 1-0 lead and stellar play from goalie Matt Turner in the second half. help the red, white, and blue hold onto a one-one draw. Friday on Fox, it's the moment the nation has been waiting for, as Team USA is in the biggest game of the World Cup so far. Don't miss the U.S. take on England. Coverage begins at 1 Eastern 10 Pacific on Fox and the Fox Sports app.
Starting point is 00:39:38 I put that in my phone calendar. That's a big game. I put it in my calendar. Get a little reminder. Yeah, you're not a, you don't strike me as a kind of guy who goes out shopping on Black Friday. No, no, that's not going to happen for me. That's one of the five best TV days of the year.
Starting point is 00:39:52 Day after Thanksgiving. Got a lot of leftovers. This year we get World Cup. You got major college football rivalries. Always. It kind of gets buried because of Thanksgiving in the NFL and the weekend. That Friday, you're going to have an upset or two. It's fantastic.
Starting point is 00:40:06 All right. Straight Fire with Jason McIntyre is he's a gambling analyst for FS1. That is his daily pod. He makes his predictions. He has had a stellar year. How did you do last week? I think four and two last week on the picks. It was a good one.
Starting point is 00:40:19 Not great, but good. All right. Former newspaper guy gives us the headlines with his picks. Tomorrow's headlines today is what we call it. And are we ready to roll it? All right. Tomorrow's headlines today. What is the headline going to be for the bills and the lion?
Starting point is 00:40:41 So Buffalo flies there, beats Cleveland. Buffalo stays there. Detroit comes back home where they've been tasty all year. Yeah, this is a tough one, Colin. And I don't know. Every time I look at this, I say, oh, Detroit, they can't win on Thanksgiving. The headline will be. Do we have the headlines?
Starting point is 00:40:57 Yeah, there it is. Death Taxes and the Lions losing on Thanksgiving. Colin, they haven't won a Thanksgiving game since 2016. Wow. I got some numbers here. Our Fox gambling team is incredible. So when McDermott and the bills are a big favorite of seven or more, 13, six and two against the spread, it's basically like when they're big favorites,
Starting point is 00:41:13 they know what they're going to do and they dominate. They've only played indoors twice this season, okay? they scored over 30 both times. That's what they do. This is a high-octane offense. By the way, Jeff Okuda doesn't look like he's going to play the Lions top cornerback. And this is even worse news. Two starting guards on a great offensive line look like they're out.
Starting point is 00:41:31 One with a concussion this week. We know Buffalo's pressure. Gough could be a long day for the Lions. I would not be surprised to see the bills drop a 40-burger on Thanksgiving in Detroit. I like your courage. Tomorrow's headlines today. What is the headline going to be for the first? Vikings who were just stomped against New England feeling pretty good about their defense.
Starting point is 00:41:53 The spot screams Minnesota. You know, it's Kirk Cousins in primetime. The headline will be. Cousin sends mac and cheese to kids table. I'm back in Kirk Cousins in primetime, which is risky. Colin, here are the numbers. Kirk Cousins, we know at 1 p.m. He's great. Prime time. 10, 17 and 1 against the spread. For some reason, he turns into a pumpkin at night. We saw him against the Eagles earlier this year, Monday night football. He shrinks. Colin, there is a lot of stuff that lines up against the Vikings. For instance, rookie coach on Thursday. Kevin O'Connell is a rookie coach. Bill Belichick. He even came out and said, we just played the Jets three weeks ago. We didn't need to prepare for them in the by week. We've been looking at Vikings tape. So they're going to come out ready. But Colin, we talk
Starting point is 00:42:34 about it all the time. Teams that get humiliated, embarrassed. This was at home. This is a great bounceback spot. I'm a believer in Kirk Cousins. And by the way, Justin Jefferson did nothing against Dallas last week. You don't think that the Vikings and O'Connell are ready to get that three-wide set and go directly at a kind of an overrated Patriots defense. Hey, shutting down Zach Wilson, guess what? Not that hard. Yeah. Vikings, get the done. All right. Tomorrow's headlines today. This is an interesting one. I think the bucks have found their way. The bucks and the browns. Yes. You know, Tom Brady has been in Tampa now coming out of the buy both years. They've been pretty damn good. The headline
Starting point is 00:43:11 will be breadwinner. Brady gets bucks on a roll. I am a dinner roll kind of guy at Thanksgiving. Colin, it sounds like no Leonard Fournette for Tampa this week. We got the hip injury, but that's not really an issue. We know the kid White, the young guy who exploded in the London game against Seattle. He's got fresh legs. Even the backup to him, Vaughn, a kid out of the SEC, I believe Vanderbilt. Good player. And this is a Tampa defense, Colin, getting very healthy in the secondary up front. I know they lost Shaq Barrett, but this is a tough. Cleveland Brown's spot. And we know what happens next week. Deshawn Watson's back.
Starting point is 00:43:45 So Watson's at practice now. And you know it's like Jacoby Brissette, Watson, big difference there in terms of quarterback. I wonder how much Cleveland's like, I can't wait for us to get Watson back and maybe Brissette not feeling good. He's going back to the bench. I like Tampa on the road. So I
Starting point is 00:44:01 generally stay away from double-digit favorites. Oh yeah. This is a rare one. I'd lean Miami. Tomorrow's headlines today. Dolphins, a huge favorite against the Texans. Yeah, big news here. Well, not big news.
Starting point is 00:44:18 They're the worst team in the league. Texans, according to multiple reports, are benching Davis Mills for the backup. The immortal Kyle Allen, it won't matter. The headline will be Dolphins waddle to couch after piling up points. That's what you'll be doing Thanksgiving night. Colin, this is a smash spot for the Miami Dolphins. Coming out of the by, we know that they're going to move the ball with ease against this terrible Houston team. the only point of caution.
Starting point is 00:44:43 Did you look at the Miami schedule? I've talked about it. Who's coming up next after this? They go to San Francisco. McDaniel revisit San Francisco, the place he just left. So is he hiding some stuff? Is he hiding some stuff? Do they not reveal the full playbook?
Starting point is 00:44:56 I think this line after they just said Kyle Allen's a starter bumped up to 14. I got it at 12. So listen, you could be up 21-0 in the fourth quarter and maybe there's some concern about the back door from Kyle Allen. Clearly, yeah. But I just, I think this Miami offense, Colin, They are just going to light up the scoreboard.
Starting point is 00:45:12 So one of the more interesting battles they faced in the playoffs last year, tomorrow's headlines today on the Bengals and Titans. This game to me, I would have stayed away. I'm interested in your take. So you are a Joe Burrow guy. I've got some Bengals fans getting on my case. Jason, you've got to like the Bengals. Don't bash them for being three in the herd hierarchy.
Starting point is 00:45:34 The headline will be Titans thankful as King Henry helps himself to second. I have a weird vibe on this game. Mike Rabele is an underdog? Now, I know Ryan, the producer of this show, he's a big Bengals guy. I'm sorry, Ryan. I think Derek Henry gets it done. Remember, in this spot last year in the playoffs, they Sacboro nine times, nine times. And Tanna Hill was awful.
Starting point is 00:45:55 He had three interceptions in the game. But Mike Vrable is an underdog, is one narrative I'm looking at here. I do believe that Tannehill is being a lot more cautious this year. Last year, he was a little flinging it around. You got Henry. You got a great offensive line. And Colin, this defense of Tennessee, very underrated. They've now faced in three
Starting point is 00:46:12 straight weeks. Patrick Mahomes, Russell Wilson, Aaron Rogers. They won two or three, and none of the quarterbacks got their team over 20 points. Something's up with this defense. They get pressure without bringing extra people. It's a very smart, secondary, communicate well. Tennessee is a handful.
Starting point is 00:46:29 They're a team that nobody really respects, but they're pretty damn good, so I bet Tennessee to beat the Bengals in Tennessee. Tomorrow's headlines today. Chiefs of Worn. One four straight. Rams Chiefs. How ugly does it get? I don't like talking double-digit spreads, but this one's fun. The headline will be Slumpkin Pie. Chief keep Rams in food coma.
Starting point is 00:46:54 This is brutal. I don't know. Is it Bryce Perkins? Is it the Wolf of Wall Street? There's no Cooper Cup. I feel a little bad for McVeigh. This could get ugly. Andy Reed, Patrick Mahomes. This is, how do they not score 40 points in this game? Jalen Ramsey, by the way, did you? see the stats last week for him? He got torched, lit up by Arizona, and the players afterward were talking trash. Like, this is, Rams, something's going on there. You've been pushing to trade Ramsey or do something. I've been trade Jalen Ramsey. He's got value. You need a number one pick. They got a second and a third. They need some picks. They got to pay Stafford and
Starting point is 00:47:32 Darnold, a fortune. It's time to kind of reboot. You got a Super Bowl? Let's get a little younger. Maybe you shut down Stafford for the season. I don't know. Now, if you're looking for an angle to the Rams. Who does Kansas City have next week? Well, they travel to Cincinnati for a rematch of the AFC championship. So they may bury their playbook. There's a chance. You've got to look these look-ahead spots late in the season
Starting point is 00:47:52 matter. So just keep that away, but I think Chiefs roll here at 35, 10, or something. Finally, tomorrow's headlines today, Jets Bears is suddenly fascinating. It's a must-watch game. What say you? We talked about this and it's like,
Starting point is 00:48:08 should we do the game? Should we do the Jets and the offseason. Should we do Zach Wilson benched? The headline will be Carpay DM. Jets sees the day. I'm telling you right now, Colin, the New York Jets quarterback next year, week one, is going to be Derek Carr. We've discussed it. There is an out-in-car's contract this off-season. Josh McDaniels not working out with him in Carr. They have slumped from being a playoff team. And we've had Mark Sanchez sit here, talk to us during the commercial breaks. The Jets have had, Colin, 13 different quarterbacks starting in the last decade. cannot find one. You could go back two decades. Who's it, Chad Pennington? Is that the franchise quarterback? They can't develop one because they're not going to be picking on the top 10. I think
Starting point is 00:48:48 they have to go out and get Derek Carr or Jimmy Garapolo. Those are the two options. Well, Robert Salah doesn't want to go to the draft again. Yeah, there's no value there. So he wants somebody who's a grown. Because this defense is a championship level defense. So he wants a grownup that can come in. I don't need an A plus. Can I get a, I've said this before. Garoppolo, I would take him over car because he's played in so many big games. And San Francisco is a feisty media market. So, you know, whereas, I mean, Vegas is still kind of a smaller market. You play in San Francisco. It's a lot of teeth on that media. So Jimmy G's, they've taken a bite out of him. You go to New York. It's an easy transition. He was in the
Starting point is 00:49:29 Boston market. He knows the Northeast. Car's got a great arm, by the way. He can sling it in the Windy MetLife Stadium or whatever it's called these days. I know Garoppolo has a lot of fans. I would like him. Colin, if you look at the last five years, who do you believe is the better quarterback? Not going to Super Bowl's, but look at the numbers. I think the argument is Derek Carr has been the better quarterback. But I think all things equal.
Starting point is 00:49:53 Derek is from the West Coast, has played on the West Coast. Jimmy G. is Midwest. He's gone east. He's gone west. He's played in bad weather. He's played for demanding coaches. I mean, there's always been this feeling. that, you know, Derek Carr is a really nice guy.
Starting point is 00:50:07 Garoppolo has had to deal with Brady and Belichick and Shanahan and big market media. I think Garoppolo feels so New York to me. Well, my only concern is Ken LaFleur, who coached Garoppel in Sanford, can he recruit Garoppel? Can he get him there? Because that's his guy. Now, Derek, I've talked with Sanchez about this. Derek Carr can run the West Coast offense that the Jets want to run. I mean, it's a good fit, and Carr is ready, man.
Starting point is 00:50:32 He has no playoff wins. He's hungry. And he's never been hurt. There's value in that. They're both affordable. All this stuff is... I'm trying to put a positive spin on a dark day in Jets football. Okay, so Thanksgiving's around the corner.
Starting point is 00:50:47 First things first around the corner as well. I'm off until Monday. Jay Mack and I, Ryan will return. Please be safe. Travel safely. Thank God I can avoid the airport for a rare Thanksgiving. We'll see you Monday. It's the hurt.
