Starting point is 00:00:00 This is an I-Heart podcast. Guaranteed Human. Another podcast from some SNL, late-night comedy guy, not quite. Unhumor me with Robert Smygel and friends. Me and hilarious guests from Bob Odenkirk to David Letterman help make you funnier. This week, my guest, SNL's Mikey Day and head writer, Streeter Seidel, help an a cappella band with their between songs banter.
Starting point is 00:00:23 Where does your group perform? We do some retirement homes. Those people are starving for banter. Listen to humor me with Robert Smigel and friends on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Imagine an Olympics where doping is not only legal, but encouraged. It's the enhanced games. Some call it grotesque. Others say it's unleashing human potential. Either way, the podcast's superhuman documented it all, embedded in the games and with the athletes for a full year.
Starting point is 00:00:52 Within probably 10 days, I'd put on 10 pounds. I was having trouble stopping the muscle growth. Listen to Superhuman on the IHard Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. A win is a win. A win is a win. I don't care what I'm saying. Yep, that's me, Clifford Taylor the 4th. You might have seen the skits, my basketball and college football journey, or my career in sports media. Well, now I'm bringing all of that excitement to my brand new podcast, The Clifers Show.
Starting point is 00:01:21 This is a place for raw, unfilled conversations with athletes, creators, and voices that not only deserve to be heard, but the show. celebrated. So let's get to it. Listen to the Clifford show on the I Heart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcast. And for more behind the scenes, follow at Clifford and at TikTok podcast network on TikTok. On the Look Back at it podcast. From 1979, that was a big moment for me.
Starting point is 00:01:43 84's big to me. I'm Sam J. And I'm Alex English. Each episode, we pick a year, unpack what went down, and try to make sense of how we survived it with our friends, fellow comedians, and favorite authors. Like Mark Lamont Hill on the 80s. 84 was a wild year. I don't think there's a more important year for black people. Listen to look back at it on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Thanks for listening to The Heard podcast. Be sure to catch us live every weekday from 12 to 3 Eastern, 9 to noon Pacific on Fox Sports Radio and FS1.
Starting point is 00:02:18 Find your local station for the herd at Fox Sports Radio.com or stream us live every day on the iHeartRadio app by searching Heard. You're listening to Fox Sports Radio. On July 19th, Judge Otani, Machado, and the game's biggest stars are coming to the city of stars for the midsummer classic. It's the 2022 All-Star Game from Dodgers Stadium, July 19th on Fox. And we imagine the warm weather, it's going to be a hot one this weekend. So the Dodgers are an interesting team because we've seen them play the Padres. We saw him play the Mets. And I'm going to bring in the best baseball reporter in my lifetime.
Starting point is 00:02:56 A four-time Emmy Award winner, Tom Verducci, a humble guy who's probably blushing, as I say that, Fox Sports. All right, let's, there's a lot of different things I want to touch on here. Howard, they've got a little speed. They don't even have their aces. And I walked out of that series and I'm thinking, I think they're, are they better than the Dodgers? What is your take on the Mets? Do they match up with the Yankees, the Braves, the Dodgers, the Astros, the real, it's real top heavy right now. What do you make of the Mets story?
Starting point is 00:03:24 Well, they're in that group for sure, Colin. And if you give them a healthy DeGrom and Scherzer, they're a nightmare postseason matchup. What I like about this team besides the top end talent that they have, it's a great collection of players. Like Steve Cohen spent a lot of money quickly out of the lockout to put this team together, right? But it wasn't like going clothes shopping and buying off the rack.
Starting point is 00:03:49 He went bespoke, right? He got the exact right guys to fit this team. I'm talking guys like Escobar and Cana, guys who really are gritty players who maybe are not household names or stars and even Chris Bassett in the rotation. But the kind of players that complete a winning team. And I'll tell you, I saw this team win some games early coming back late. To me, there's nothing that binds a team like comeback wins early in the season. And the Mets have that kind of grittiness to them where they're never out of a game. I see them cut down on their swing when they need to, you know, to start an inning in a one-run.
Starting point is 00:04:23 game rather than swinging for the fence. They'll all do that. And listen, they put the team in the hands of a veteran proven manager in Buck Shawalter, right? They had talent before, but they tried rookie managers. That didn't work. Kind of like the Padres with Bob Melvin. They got the right pilots steer in the ship now. Now, the Yankees are not as complicated. Power and aces. They throw the ball past you and they hit it over you. Aaron Judge is remarkable. He's having a great year. You know, just the aesthetic is when I watch, and I say this, I dabble. I get an inning here. I got the MLB network.
Starting point is 00:04:58 I watch bits and pieces of it. But the Yankees look like what you would build a baseball team to be with analytics if you had a big bank. To me, they look like the class of the sport, are they? They are. I mean, look at the numbers. I think the game pivotes now on home runs more than ever before. And the Yankees, by far, hit the most home runs and give up the fewest.
Starting point is 00:05:18 That differential is enormous. Yeah. And you mentioned Judge having an enormous year, right, in a walk year for him. It's interesting, though. I did the game last night, Yankees, Red Sox. Judge, they get him the day off because his legs, they say, were just a little tired and sore. They're asking a lot of a guy who's 6'7 and 282 pounds to be playing center field as much as he has. Now, he's playing great in center field. And this was just more along the lines of, hey, we've got a big lead. We don't need to push this guy. But it is remarkable what he is doing at his size playing a really good. good center field and getting to the break with at least 30 home runs. It's an amazing season. He's not the only story. I think the secret sauce of this team is their defense, Colin. You talk
Starting point is 00:06:00 about their pitching and they're swinging this stuff. Their bullpen is lights out. You put the ball on the ground against this team. You're out. The defense of the Yankees went from one of the two worst in baseball last year to one of the best this year. So now I think they're a much better postseason team than they've been in the last few years. So the Dodgers right now lead the National League with 53 wins. But when they've played good teams, I don't know if the word is vulnerable. You know, mooky is mokey.
Starting point is 00:06:25 I watched him last night, do what he does. Where's the vulnerability with the Dodgers that you see? Well, listen, they have the best pitching staff in baseball, which is crazy because with injuries to Bueller and a lot of other guys, they're not nearly at full strength, but they have the best DRA, the best
Starting point is 00:06:43 strikeout to walk rate. You know, Tony Gonsland and Tyler Anderson, you're like, where were they when the season started? And now they're 20 and one combined. Are you kidding? Is that going to hold up in the second half of the season? Listen, they're legit. They're good pitchers, but that's just a ridiculous pace.
Starting point is 00:06:59 I don't know that they can keep that up. But you're right. The one measurement you take in the Dodgers, I think, in the second half, is how they play against the other elite teams in this division, especially Padres Giants. I think they're good enough. I think they're talented enough. I think they win the division again.
Starting point is 00:07:15 And my preseason pick for the NLCS was Dodgers. Mets, I don't see any reason to get off that, Colin. So we got a trading deadline coming up here. You know, there are certain teams like the Yankees who don't have needs. Dodgers probably fall into that. Give me a good team that has a need, a need for like an Atlanta or a Milwaukee. Like Milwaukee's not in that upper crust, but they're not a mile back. Would Milwaukee be a player?
Starting point is 00:07:45 Who would be on the market? Is it, could we have a big move? I don't think we'll see a Scherzer, Trey Turner move like we saw last year, but yeah, you'll see big moves because, you know, that's just what trade deadline has become. Look at Atlanta last year. They completely remade their outfield
Starting point is 00:08:03 and won the World Series because of it. So who makes that move? I look at the Boston Red Sox, and they say they need another bat. Their production at first base, right field. Get this. It's the worst in franchise history. They're essentially punting offense at two positions and that right now they're in playoff position. I think they need another bat. You know, let's some talk around the Yankees that with Joey Gallo in the lineup, you know, it's too much swing
Starting point is 00:08:32 and miss in his game. Maybe they want a more contact oriented player in that spot at the bottom of lineup. Brian Reynolds, the outfielder from Pittsburgh, I think will be on the market and be really in demand because he solves a lot of issues for a lot of teams, whether it's Boston or New York. Yeah. You know, you'll probably, could you have a busy trade deadline? Because the bottom of the sport, there's about 10 teams right now that can't compete. And when you get a gap, when you have great teams that know they're going to play great teams in three months, four months, and you have bad teams, that's when you have an active trade deadline. And we have 10 teams, I checked this morning, 10 to 11 teams that feel like they have no shot. So to me it feels like, you know, if I'm
Starting point is 00:09:13 one of these rebuilding teams, give me draft picks. I'll give you my best player. So you think it's going to be a fairly frenetic trade deadline? I do. And again, I don't think it's going to be blockbuster deals, Colin. I think you'll see a lot of finishing pieces moved. If you're looking for a starting pitcher, that market is pretty thin. You've got Luis Castillo from the Reds, maybe Noah Sendegard from the Angels that will be out there. Frankie Montas is really, to me, the best available pitcher. He's had a little bit of a shoulder issue. I think he's going to be okay. But generally you want to trade for a starting pitcher. You know it's going to take the ball in the first three games of a postseason series.
Starting point is 00:09:49 You're not going to trade really for a back-end rotation guy. Those are really the guys and the only guys that stand out for me that can do that. So if you want a starting pitcher, the depth there is pretty thin. You better move quickly. You know, the All-Star. All-Stars are revealed tonight. And we know that Aaron Judge and Ronald O'Cunia Jr. have already locked in their spots, leading their votes and their respect.
Starting point is 00:10:13 leagues after phase one of the voting. You know, I was watching Mike Trout. Was it last night of the night before? And we were talking about the Angels. Well, they had these two great players, O'Tonnie and Mike Trout. And, you know, it's a bummer. I tend to root for great players. Like when Matt Stafford went to the Lions to the Rams, not just because I live in Los Angeles,
Starting point is 00:10:33 I think great players, I like to see them in great spaces. I think it's better for sports. And I look at Mike Trout and I think to myself, you know, the Angels are just, they're just spinning their wheels. here. Is Trout going to end his career with them? I mean, I know he's an East Coast guy, and I watch him and I think, I mean, he is just too gifted to not be in the postseason. What do you make of his career and how it, the ascension of it and where it's at? Yeah, it's one of the biggest shames, if you will, the last 10 years, that Trout has never
Starting point is 00:11:07 played at a winning playoff game. It's crazy to think that. It's been a long time since he's even been in. And really to be a true national star in this sport, Colin, you need to get to a world series, not just even in the postseason. You need that exposure where baseball is so strong regionally during the season. Postseason is where you really shine nationally. So, yeah, I just think this about Mike Trout. He's extremely loyal to the Angels.
Starting point is 00:11:34 Remember, he sat around on draft day. I think it was 25th pick by the time he got taken. It was the Angels who took him. he's always been a loyal guy to the Angels, right? He signed an extension before where he could have gotten on the market and probably got a much bigger number than he did. I don't see Mike at this point, maybe it changes, but at this point, I don't think he's to the point of frustration
Starting point is 00:11:56 where he's looking to play somewhere else. Yeah. All right, Tom Verducci, All-Star starters revealed tonight. It is great seeing you. You look like you're in a hotel room in the East Coast. Where are you? I'm actually home. Okay.
Starting point is 00:12:11 I just got in from Boston the game last night, watched Garrett Cole get taken deep twice by Raphael Devers. By the way, those all-star votes, third base is fascinating. You got Devers and Jose Ramirez in the American League. In the nationally, you've got Machado and Aeronado. Both are really close votes. Hey, by the way. My book, I've got Raphael Devers, the A.L and Machado and the NL. Very close, though.
Starting point is 00:12:36 Yeah, I saw Machado played the other night. So you're not at a hotel room because now I'm an. idiot. I can see all those baseballs behind you. So tell me, Tom Verducci, go look at that jar of baseballs behind you. Those are signed, right? Those are signed baseballs, right? Not only a couple of those are signed. Who's the most famous signature in that in that group? Who's this? Yogi Berra. That's pretty good. That's pretty good. That beats mine. All right. Good that you're home. All-Star stuff tonight. Good seeing you, Tom. Always a pleasure, Colin. Enjoyed it.
Starting point is 00:13:15 Yeah, he and Peter Gammon's are about as good as the sport has ever had. Fascinating, great writers, fascinating stuff. Four-time Emmy Award winner. And I hope he wasn't offended when I said you look like you're in a beautiful hotel room. No, I mean, it's a well-manicured house. Yeah. Yeah. And then I saw the baseballs, and I was dumb, which happens on occasion. Be sure to catch live editions of The Herd, Weekdays at noon Eastern, 9 a. Starting point is 00:15:24 What the hell does George Bush got to do a little Kim? Well, you can find out on the Look Back at it podcast. I'm Sam Jek. And I'm Alex English. Each episode, we pick a here, unpack what we. went down and tried to make sense of how we survived it. Including a recent episode with Mark Lamont Hill, waxing all about crack in the 80s. To be clear, 84 is big to me, not just because of crack.
Starting point is 00:15:46 I'm down to talk about crack all day, but just so y'all know. I mean, at this point, Mark, this is the second episode where we've discussed crack, so I'm starting to see that there's a through line. We also have AIDS on the table right now, so. Thank you for finishing that sentence. And, yes, I don't think there's a more important year for black people. Really? Yeah. For me, it's one of the most important years for black people in American history. Listen to look back at it on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts.
Starting point is 00:16:15 Welcome to my new podcast, Learn the Hard Way with me, your host, and your favorite therapist, Kear Games. And in recognition of Mental Health Awareness Month, I'm bringing over a decade of my own experience in the mental health field and conversations with so many incredible guests. I'm talking, Tripp Fontaine, Ryan Clark. Sometimes when we're in the pursuit of the thing, We get so wrapped up in the chase that we don't realize that we are in possession of the thing. And we're still chasing it. And we don't know when we've done enough. Because people scoreboard watch. Life becomes about wins and losses.
Starting point is 00:16:48 Steve Burns, Dustin Ross, because you find it important to be a good person while you hear on Earth. Are you a good person because you're afraid? Because that's two different intentions, bro. Absolutely. And that's two different levels of trust. I want you to just really be a good person. Join me, Keir Gaines, as we have real conversations about healing, growth, fatherhood, pressure, and purpose on my new podcast, Learn the Hardway. Open your free iHeartRadio app, search Learn the Hardway, and listen now.
Starting point is 00:17:16 Think about your happy place. Maybe it's a so fond game day, maybe it's your fishing boat. Wherever your happy place is, driveway.com let you buy or sell a car from there. Alex with the news. Turn on the news. This is the herd line news. Well, Roy McGilroy has been one of the loudest opponents to the new LiveGolve, but he seems like he might be changing his tune and trying to find a middle ground between the two leagues.
Starting point is 00:17:42 Messy. I wish it hadn't I got that messy and in high as messy. But I think in the long term, it will make the game better. But right now it's just that there's this disruption that's happening. And with disruption comes change and forced change. change and I think this is just sort of forced to her's hands a little bit and they have to adapt and change and I think that's
Starting point is 00:18:06 what they're going to have to try to do. See now that is a reasonable take. Yeah. Is that it's disruptive and when disruptive businesses enter a marketplace it's choppy and it's messy. What I don't like is us marginalizing the guys that took the money.
Starting point is 00:18:22 The Mickelsons and the Normans who have complained publicly about how they're treated by the PGA. So you don't have to love Livgolf, but the hypocrisy and the outrage is like a little much for me. Oh, yeah. And I think Rory's takeaway is we have a disruptive force in our sport. Eventually, it'll rise.
Starting point is 00:18:41 The PGA will be better. The PGA will have real competition. That's fine. I have no problem. And I'm not saying I agree with everything the live golfers do. What I don't like is the attack on them when they're all independent contractors. And golfers have always been given exemptions to play all over the world. and that's been understood.
Starting point is 00:19:01 The PGA tour doesn't like this because it's a threat, and they have at this point an endless bucket of cash to swoop in and buy golfers. And guess what? The PGA is already making changes. They announced a revised big money schedule as well as the addition of three events this fall, exclusive to top players, worth up to 20 million in cash prizes. So see, they just needed a little push. Yes.
Starting point is 00:19:24 And then I don't know if you saw how well the live golf tournament is taking care of all their players. Well, their caddies get paid. They're taking care of people who should have been taken care of on the PGA tour years ago. Yeah. They have this, look at this private jet. Look at this thing. That's a, that's a jet. Yeah. That is a private jet. Right? Taken care. So that's how they fly you to tournaments. Look at this. Can I join? How can you get right? Wow. Wow. Right? They're doing everything right. Well, just starting out for the players, taken care of them. I mean, that's Alex, I say this all the time. It's amazing in society that the people that are never offered great opportunities are
Starting point is 00:20:07 always experts on the people that do how they should respond to those offers. Folks, everybody, everybody's a moralist until you get offered the bag. And then you have hard decisions to make. Don't lecture people who are offered enormous opportunities until you've been offered similar opportunity. everybody's values are flexible. Everybody's morals are flexible. I mean, the bottom line is evangelical Christians
Starting point is 00:20:36 were Donald Trump's biggest support group. Suddenly, they found a way to see valor in Trump who'd been sued or sued people 450 times. There were Harrison allegations. They found a way to support him because they didn't like the opposition. We do this all the time. We're flexible morally based on opportunities presented.
Starting point is 00:20:58 And now you're a serious. seeing the PGA players kind of coming around to live. I mean, how can you not when you see a video like that? All elite golfers should be taken care of to a higher level than they have been for years by the current state of golf. Exactly. All right. Well, switching gears, Leighton Vanderesch used to fancy, he's used to facing some grizzly men on the line. But on a recent fishing trip, he came face to face with a real grizzly.
Starting point is 00:21:23 He was on a boat, had some extra fish, and decided to hand-feed them to a bear. care, Colin. Now luckily, as you can see here, the bear took the fish calmly out of his hand and walked away. But if I was Jerry Jones and the Cowboys watching this, I might be a little uneasy in that moment. He recently signed a one year, $2 million contract with the Cowboys. That's amazing. With up to a million in playing incentives. Like, you're a nature guy. I mean, this is a... Layton's a Idaho kid, so he knows those back channels. He knows all those. Idaho is an unbelievably gorgeous state. I'm fascinated by this kind of video.
Starting point is 00:22:00 I could sit and watch this stuff all day. I mean, definitely looks like a cub, so you're going to get a little more friendly reaction here. Wow. It's a little risky. It's beautiful, but it's risky. Yeah. Good stuff. All right.
Starting point is 00:22:13 Well, last night, the U.S. women's national team defeated Jamaica, 5-0, and qualified for the 20-23 World Cup. The team has gone through a ton of transition since the last time they won in 2019. Carly Lloyd retired. Alex Morgan is currently fighting for her starting spot. Megan Rapino is now a super sub. Tobin Heath appears to be out of the picture. Kristen Press tour, ACL, and Julie Earts is currently pregnant. So with one, no one's really sure what the roster will look like next year.
Starting point is 00:22:40 However, they have a ton of young talent and they should be highly regarded contenders, if not the favorite. Now, remember, they are back-to-back World Cup champs. This team always seems to figure it out even during the 2019 run. I spent the whole year prior to the World Cup with the team, and there were doubts about the team at that moment. They always seem to figure it out as long as everyone buys in. They're going through a transition period.
Starting point is 00:23:04 A huge transition period. Yeah. Yeah. And for the record, our men aren't going through that same period. But we have the United States men's team. It will be the youngest at the World Cup. Yeah. So we've kind of turned it over and gone with the youth movement.
Starting point is 00:23:18 And I think it's the right move. I think our young players are. But what we could use right now on our World Cup team is Clint Dempsey. I mean, what we could really use is somebody in their 30s, a tough guy that's been there before, and we just don't have a lot of that. So I have a feeling we're going to have a great World Cup for both men and women. It's exciting. They're both in it.
Starting point is 00:23:37 It's going to be a great year. Yep, Alex, for the news. Well, that's the news. And thanks for stopping by. The Herd Line News. Be sure to catch live editions of The Herd weekdays in noon Eastern 9 a.m. Pacific. Mike check. Mike check.

And in recognition of mental health awareness month, I'm bringing over a decade of my own experience in the mental health field and conversations with so many incredible guests.
Starting point is 00:27:18 I'm talking. Trip Fontaine, Ryan Clark. Sometimes when we're in the pursuit of the thing, we get so wrapped up in the chase that we don't realize that we are in possession of the thing. And we're still chasing it. And we don't know when we've done enough. Because people scoreboard watch. Life becomes about wins and losses. Steve Burns, Dustin Ross.
Starting point is 00:27:40 Because you find it important to be a good person while you hear on earth? Are you a good person because you're afraid? Because that's two different intentions, bro. Absolutely. And that's two different levels of trust. I want you to just really be a good person. Join me, Kear Gaines, as we have real conversations about healing,
Starting point is 00:27:55 growth, fatherhood, pressure, and purpose on my new podcast, Learn the Hardway. Open your free, Our Heart Radio app. Search Learn the Hardway and listen now. Six of them today, so this newspaper man is running out of age. Coming in hot, baby. Here we go. It's going to be fun.
Starting point is 00:28:12 Tomorrow's headlines today. So let's start with this one. tomorrow's headlines today. Baker finally traded. What's going to be the headline for Baker and Carolina this season? A lot of people penciling him in for the week one starter in Carolina. I'm not so sure the headline will be Baker Bakes on the bench. Colin, I don't think Baker Mayfield will start week one against the Cleveland Browns.
Starting point is 00:28:38 I think Sam Darnold is the incumbent there. Matt Rule, the head coach really likes him. He's worked with the quarterback coach. You know, the burden of, you know, the burden. of proof is on the newcomer. And Baker Mayfield has to prove he's not a guy who's going to be a locker room issue. Remember, the wide receivers did not like him in Cleveland. It ended very ugly there.
Starting point is 00:28:56 Baker's got to kind of do some rehabilitation on his image. If he comes in the cocky guy that he was in Cleveland, it's not going to end well. I believe Sam Darnel will win the job. And I mean, we haven't really got into Carolina much. Colin, this is kind of a bet on team next year. You know, they got some players. Christian McCaffrey's back. With him, they started 3 in 0 last year.
Starting point is 00:29:13 I like the defense. The division's very down. Just keep an eye on Carolina. They'll be good. All right. Tomorrow's headlines today. Now that Baker's off the market, Jimmy G.
Starting point is 00:29:23 is the next quarterback in waiting for a suitor. Jimmy G. I know he's your guy. I've been hearing a lot of talk about him. The headline will be Garapolo risk Heinz reward. How about that one? Jimmy G. to the Steelers.
Starting point is 00:29:36 Colin, Pittsburgh, a playoff team last year, they're going into the season with Mitchell Tribiskey versus Kenny Pickett with like Mason Rudolph. I don't, can that trio get you anywhere? in what's arguably the second toughest division in football. I think if you look at Jimmy Garoppolo's history, the guy's kind of a winner.
Starting point is 00:29:53 I know the arm is limited, but if Pittsburgh can ride that defense, T.J. Watt, they get Devin Bush, who missed most of the season last year. Their middle linebacker. When he came back late, they surged, they won three or four. If you go defense and a ball control attack with the running game and Jimmy G, I think you've got something.
Starting point is 00:30:09 I'm not a Trubisky believer. I think Jimmy G goes to Pittsburgh. You're buying that? You buying what I'm selling there? Not necessarily, but I think it's interesting because I think Trebiski's going to, he's a good bridge quarterback. All right. Let's go to basketball, NBA. Nets, drama-filled off season.
Starting point is 00:30:25 What's the headline going to be for Kyrie Irving? Yes, Kyrie Irving. Very polarizing player, the headline will be, cryri a river. Just be quiet, Kyrie Irving. I'm really getting sick of his nonsense. He wants the Lakers. You know he was out here in L.A. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:30:42 Over the July 4th holiday, he's lobbying LeBron. get me out of there. I'm just telling you right now, guys, there really is no market for Kyrie Irving. And the Lakers would be fools to capitulate and say, yeah, sure, we'll take on Kyrie Irving. I just want to reiterate. There was a tweet from Jeannie Bus, the Lakers owner,
Starting point is 00:30:58 that was kind of a subtle dig at LeBron saying, hey, Kobe's the greatest Laker ever. He valued team over individual. We know LeBron wants Kyrie, but Jeannie Bus sent a message. This is about the team, and Kyrie's not making anyone better. I know he's going to hang 50 on Orlando
Starting point is 00:31:13 and 60 on Portland. whoopty damn do, Colin. The guy is a locker room nuisance. He was a nightmare, as you said, in Boston. Go look at the ending in Cleveland, Colin, where he threw the ball at Ty Lew at practice and said, this is LeBron's team. Go tell him to do that.
Starting point is 00:31:27 The guy blows up in Brooklyn. I don't know why the Lakers would get in bed with a headcase like this. And I don't think they will. I think Kyrie will continue to be on the Nets, and I don't think the Lakers trade for him. Very interesting. I don't know why you'd want this guy. He is a total disaster everywhere he goes, Colin.
Starting point is 00:31:42 And he thinks he's the smartest guy in the room. All right, I've said, enough. I'm a little harsh on Kair. Tomorrow's headlines today. What's the headline for Kevin Durant this offseason? Love me some KD. You know, he hasn't really been replying to a lot of people. We had another Instagram discussion
Starting point is 00:31:56 this week. I'll tell you about it in a second. The headline will be Durantula can't crawl out of. Tangled Webb. Another guy, I think, staying in Brooklyn. It's trending that way, Colin. First of all, let's be realistic. The Phoenix Suns do not want to give up Devin Booker. They don't
Starting point is 00:32:12 want to give up their stars. Nobody wants to give up that much for a 34-year-old Kevin Durant turns 34 in September. Who's had some injury history? Sure. I saw Colin 90 games played in the last three years? Yeah. That's it. He has, what, one or two great years left?
Starting point is 00:32:26 I'm not mortgaging the future for him. That being said, my take last week on the podcast was that Steph Curry broke Kevin Durant. And when KD got swept by Boston and then Steph Curry took care of Boston, KD was like, I can't deal with this. I got to get out of here. And Durant responded to me on Instagram. We had a big back and forth.
Starting point is 00:32:43 and his basic take is he's upset how the media portrays him. We know he has the rabbit ears. And I just don't know what he thinks he's going to accomplish by going to Phoenix. Like if you get to Phoenix or Miami, like you're going to the number one seat in the Easter West and it's not your team. Like I don't know where he's going with this. And ultimately, I don't think the Nets deal them.
Starting point is 00:33:04 And I think they start the season with Kyrie Irving and Kevin Durant in Brooklyn. By the way, Ben Simmons is still there. Seth Curry, Patty Mills. They have a good supporting cast, right? Top five in the east? Let's stick with the NBA. We're told Anthony Davis is locked in this offseason, working out at 4.50 in the morning. Tomorrow's headlines today.
Starting point is 00:33:24 What's the headline going to be for the Lakers Anthony Davis? Boy, as harsh as I am on Kyrie, you're killing AD lately. I'm sure he's hearing it. The headline will be Lakers don't make trade. Just browsing. I don't think you give up. Your writer's working overtime. Yes, yes.
Starting point is 00:33:41 We've got a great staff back there. churning out good stuff. I don't think you trade Anthony Davis. Why would you do that, Colin? I know he's hurt all the time, but hello, Kyrie Irving, also injured all the time. And like Anthony Davis's skill set, like is extremely good for a guy who's, what, 611. I know he's a little soft and fades away. But again, it's much easier to find a point guard like Kyrie Irving, a guy who dominates the ball and scores a lot than it is a 611 inside outside guy. Listen, AD they want a title with. I think you stick with him. I'm not sure why you're so. so eager to get rid of Anthony Davis.
Starting point is 00:34:15 I think the Lakers will be fools to trade him personally. All right. Finally, let's talk. This is interesting. The number two overall pick tomorrow's headlines today. Up and down Summer League, Chet Holmgren, McIntyre, what do you see? What are you perceiving here?
Starting point is 00:34:30 My favorite thing about your show this week, besides, you know, Alex being great, is all of your love for the NBA Summer League. You're all over it. The headline for Chet Holmgren will be. Don't bet on Chet yet. I do not think he will be. rookie of the year. But did you notice the rookie of the year odds shifted? He became the favorite after like one summer league game because he could go behind the back and
Starting point is 00:34:50 splash a three. Colin, I could do that in the summer league. Seriously, I probably could. I think it's going to be Paolo Bencaro or Kegan Murray from the Sacramento Kings. I like Chet. And look at this. And the guy looks like, look at it. He's a plastic man, inspector gadget, whatever you want to call him. He's playing really well in the summer league. You know, we've seen this before, Colin. I think he has a good rookie season, maybe what, 12 and 7, but it'll be like a 25-win team. If you judge the way that the voters are doing rookie of the year, they're not looking for big stats on a bad team. They want impactful stats on a winning team. The last couple of years, that's how the voters have gone. I don't
Starting point is 00:35:29 think Chet will be rookie of the year. I'd bet against him if I were you out there. Yeah, I think, you know, I've said this before that, you know, because the kids that come into the NBA now are, you know, mostly 19, 20-year-old kids. And so, So, like the Lakers gave up on Brandon Ingram a year too early. He became like an all-star level player. So I think if you look at Chet's body, like Anthony Edwards physically or Apollo Bancaro physically, those guys are ready to contribute. But a lot of these guys don't have their body right yet.
Starting point is 00:35:57 Forget the emotion. Forget the travel. You love college basketball. It's 36 games a year. NBA is 82. So I think Chet, who's going to try to put on weight, but yet his cardio is going to increase by three times because of the number of games he plays. you have to, I've said this, I think you have to limit the number of games he plays.
Starting point is 00:36:16 You go, we want to put weight on you. That's number one. Not making you hit jumpers or not winning games. You got to put weight on him. He can't play 82 games and put on 20 pounds. But you're going to draft him second overall in what stagger his minutes? Yes, absolutely. 20 minutes a night, 22 minutes a night, 50 games. Isn't the number one thing with Chet Hong Grin? The number one thing is healthy. Is putting weight on. Well, okay.
Starting point is 00:36:39 We know his skills are good and we know he's talented and we know they're not winning championship. They're not coming close to anything. Have you heard the KD to O KC's rumors? That's not going to happen. There's no way it's going to happen. I like the people who are like, well, we might give up Chet Holmgren for Kevin Duran in a package. It's just nonsense. No. So now your summer, Alex has been in Italy. I went to Turks. Where were you? We have not gone really anywhere. My son got into this kind of advanced program over at Loyola Marymount. You know, he's an elementary school kid, just got to middle school. But we did just book a trip to an island. I refuse to reveal the name, but we'll be going there in August.
Starting point is 00:37:16 Should be fun. Pre-football vacations. The Jets, everybody's betting them because of the draft. I don't personally love that. I will say New York Giants, Brian Dable, Wink Martindale, they got some good coaches there. Oh, come on. They got to play. Just keep it. That division is overrated criminally. I can't wait to talk gambling with you. All fall. When it comes to investing in gold to safeguard your portfolio, stock market, you don't trust it. Why not trust Legacy Precious Metals 866-66-674 Herd or visit

Those people are starving for banter. Listen to humor me with Robert Smigel and friends on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts.
Starting point is 00:38:31 Imagine an Olympics where doping is not only legal, but encouraged. It's the enhanced games. Some call it grotesque. Others say it's unleashing human potential. Either way, the podcast's super. Superhuman documented it all, embedded in the games and with the athletes for a full year. Within probably 10 days, I'd put on 10 pounds. I was having trouble stopping the muscle growth.
Starting point is 00:38:54 Listen to Superhuman on the I-Hard Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. A win is a win. A win is a win. I don't care what I'm saying. And I'm Alex English.
Starting point is 00:39:43 Each episode, we pick a year, unpack what went down, and try to make sense of how we survived it, with our friends, fellow comedians, and favorite authors. Like Mark Lamont Hill on the 80s. 84 was a wild year. I don't think there's a more important year for black people. Listen to look back at it on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts.
Starting point is 00:40:05 This is an IHeart podcast. Guaranteed Human.
