Red banners. It's the herd in L.A. And the Lakers have been turned down. According to Adrian Wojianowski, Wojohnowski. He says, as swept away as Danny Hurley, the UConn coach was by the Lakers courtship and vision, he ultimately could not walk away from a chance to make history and pursue a third straight NCAA title.

Even before the Lakers' talks, PURT already had a UCon offer to become one of the highest paid NCAA coaches, and those talks continue. So my read into this, because Woj has been talking to Hurley directly, here's my read on it. There's a lot in this. So it starts with as swept away as Hurley was by the Lakers' courtship and vision. Hurley's complimenting the Lakers. He doesn't want to burn bridges. He wants everybody to know.

He was blown away. Their vision was extraordinary. Then there's the butt. he couldn't walk away from history they also add in hey hey hey hey we weren't using you to get a raise even before lakers talks hurley had a you con offer in the bag so this is a way for hurley to say i was blown away by this job i already had an offer on the table from yukon i couldn't walk away from history. Now, I don't have a problem with that.

That's how you do it. Thank you. I'm blown away by your vision. What an opportunity. I was not using you. I had another offer on the table. My take is he flew home. You know, his kids were like, yeah, Disneyland, Los Angeles.

His wife's like, I don't know anybody out there. Huh. I don't know. I don't have any friends out there. I'm never going to see my husband. You're on the road the whole time. And he came back. He talked to friends.

He wasn't sure. He went to a Billy Joel concert. Is there anything that feels more New York in the summer and fall than a Yankee game and a Billy Joel concert? He probably went to both. Again, if you offered them this in February, if he just got knocked out of the tournament in March, it's June. He's got a title. It's a Billy Joel concert.

You know, you're hanging out with family. That's a hard, that's a hard pivot to go exit stage left to the West Coast. So I didn't think he'd take it. I thought there was a chance. I wouldn't have been shocked. But it just didn't feel like the time. Now, I do think there is an argument that strike when the iron is hot. They'll be an elite eight team, you know, winning it, you cross your fingers.

If I'm Dan Hurley I'm looking at the Lakers like, I want 14, 15 million per year. Now, Monty Williams makes 13, and he's the fourth highest paid coach in the league, and obviously he's struggling with Detroit. So I think 14 or 15 is justified for like seven years 100, which sounds crazy, but seven years 100 million gives you the type of security that you would need to coach LeBron and Anthony Davis. They're veterans.

They're set in their way. Hurley wants to come here and say, this is how we're doing it. This is the program, right? They wanted to build something like Boston with Brad Stevens and Oklahoma City with Mark Dagnos and Presti, that they're building a program. And that was the post-Lebron thing, but you got to get him through to LeBron in AD years.

So I thought it would have taken something like that. And to be honest, the Lakers should have went there. Now, I know they're not one of the wealthiest ownership groups, But remember, 20 years ago, 20 years ago, they offered Coach K eight million a year, which 20 years ago was more than 11.5 million now. And so I think that's what it would have taken. That's where Hurley would have wanted for the security. And Colin, look, I talked to people, once this broke, I talked to some people around the league,

that theorized, they were speculating, but they thought, this might be something where Hurley, kind of, you know, he's got leverage to get a bigger contract from Yukon, and it looks like that's absolutely what's going to happen. Listen, I said this earlier. Minnesota's got a rising star. Dallas has a star. Sacramento's got a star.

You know, Minnesota, Denver, forget the fact that Celtics have two young stars. You start looking around the league, and on any given night, if LeBron or A.D. don't play, you're guys, Austin Reeves, as your number one playmaker. I mean, he'll be your number one play. And I look at it and I think, this is not the NFL. It's not baseball. You got a salary cap. It's not the NFL where you can trade anybody almost any time.

You got to make salaries match. I think it's a long road out for the Lakers. I don't think they're right around the corner. Do you? No. I mean, LeBron is still obviously great. AD is a great player, but that'll get you about, you know, middle of the pack as far as playoff teams in the Western Conference.

And you're right. Oklahoma City is just going to be better next year. Minnesota is going to be better. Dallas will be better next year. That's not even to mention a few other teams like New Orleans, which is coming up. So they, they, it's a tough situation. And that's why if you're hurley, you would have wanted the security. Look, if it's J.J.

Reddick or James Barago or somebody like that, if they go out in the first or second round in the next two years, Colleen, which is very plausible, right? That might even be generous. Yeah. All right. It's a good chance Reddick or Barago might get fired. Right. Okay. But if you're Dan Hurley with his cash, his name, his resume, and if you had that type of contract, you would survive that. And then now it's time for the rebuild and let's develop. up this program. So again, that's why I think that's the type of package it would have taken to get Hurley. And now it's going to be interesting because, you know, there are rumblings

that, you know, Anthony Davis has a relationship with Barago and that would be his preference. Those are rumblings. There's talk about should they go after Jay Wright, who you talk about the next Pat Riley. He certainly looks the part. So maybe you can do that in L.A. But it'll be interesting. And Reddick. Now Reddick went from the number one. guy to an afterthought, is he back to being the number one guy? It's going to be interesting how this plays out. You know, it's really interesting. It's the Lakers are like the Cowboys.

It's viewed as a great job, but if Jerry's controlling things, you have to pay DAC $58 million a year, it ain't a great job. It's a good job, right? Like the brand can't be bigger than your reality, unlike college. In college, you can recruit your back. The transfer portal, you can recruit your way back after one class. You can get 30 guys in. Totally rebuild the roster. The Jay Wright rumor came out. We both love Jay. I talked to him recently, very happy with broadcasting, really into it. He's not a,

he's a driven guy, but he's not an obsessed guy. He's a family guy. What do you make of the Jay Wright stuff? What am I supposed to make of that? You're out east. What are you here? Well, yeah, that's a great point. And he seems perfectly content with where he's at. And, you know, you get to stay around the game. You're respected. You're making good money, and you don't have the pressure, right? And you talk about pressure.

Villanova, it wasn't the same pressure as some of the, some other programs, even though he had obviously built him into a powerhouse. The Lakers would be you're stepping right. into the pressure cooker. And I don't know. My doubt, I doubt that he wants to do that. But if I'm the Lakers, I'm reaching out because I think he could be a great NBA coach and certainly has the resume that can rival Hurley's.

And it'd be a good hire, but it might not be the time for him either. You know, some guys would look at this like, you know, it's, you could look at it, Colin like Hurley. If he comes in for another NBA job, is it going to be as good as the Lakers? Right? You said it earlier. Strike while the iron is hot. Your next

offer could be from Charlotte or some other bad team that's looked, you know? So there was an argument for that, but obviously he's content in Connecticut. I throw this out too Colin. You know, college men's basketball is not what it used to be. Right. Right. 15 years

ago, it was huge. 10 years ago it was huge. Now it is not that big anymore. It doesn't capture the public's imagination the way it used to. I thought that also could play in the Hurley going to the Lakers, but obviously he chose to stay put. Hey, one other thought. I want to talk Celtics for a second.

So Jalen Brown won the Eastern Conference final MVP. He could win the final MVP. Tatum's doing a lot, but he's not shooting well. and it's sort of you know there's always been this kind of soft tribal feeling on him the people who like him love him the people like me who like him think there are reservations I think Jalen's more alpha more aggressive

you hear and talking during the timeouts I feel like Jalen's the leader but I do think Tatum's more naturally gifted but Jalen's more the verbal guy the aggressive guy what do you make of his finals like Jason Tatum's finals do you think less what do you make of what you've

seen. I respect him because he's not letting his shot, the fact that he's struggling with his shot, ruining a lot of big scores. Kyrie's struggling with his shot. He's not doing much else. He can't. Kyrie's not a great defender big enough to rebound. But Tatum's rebounding, leading an assist, eight and a half a game, obviously shooting poorly. But I love the fact that he's like, I'm not going to let my shot ruin my game. It's about the team. Let's go out and get the W. So I've gained respect for him in that regard.

And I still think he's their best player. Leads him, even these playoffs where he hasn't shot well, Colin. Leading them in points, rebounds, and assists per game. Yeah. Has led him in scoring the last five years and led them in points or rebounds the last two years. Now, he might not be their leader, as you said. with Jalen, he might not be their most clutch guy. In fact, statistically, we know he isn't. But as far as their overall best player, I still would give him that, but I think it's closer

than we thought between him and Jalen. Good stuff. Bruce stopped by. You know, he always was willing to just put that tie on. He always like, this is what Bruce Ard looks like when he goes to breakfast and Saturday morning. He is a well-dressed man. You know how much I love you, Brew. Appreciate you stopping by late notice. He just does a great job. One of the first guys we got over here. I just love what he does. Yeah, it's, J-MAC has had a rough week. He'd like the Mavericks in the final, and he told Hurley, you got to take the gig.

A little bumpy for you. It just got bumpier. I just got a real nasty note here from one of the best players in the NBA DMing me. This guy's crazy. You know, we're talking about the Caitlin Clark stuff, and he's just going off of me. I didn't even tag him this time.

I didn't even need to tag him. found the tweet and then like came after me. I'll show it to you during the break. It's, he's an angry guy. Well, he's private. I don't want to see your DMs. He doesn't want to see it. He might. He might. I don't want to get involved with your

border skirmishes. I know the Lakers stuff has people worked up, but this Caitlin Clark stuff has people on edge. They are very, very fired up. You got to be honest about Caitlin Clark. Okay, Ellen, can I tell you a story? Can I do a three-minute story? Do we have any time here? Can I do this?

Okay. This story time. If you want music, you could do it. So when I moved from the other place to here, I moved to Manhattan Beach, California. And the reason I moved to Manhattan Beach, California, I had two friends here. I'd never lived in L.A. And I was divorced, and I wanted to be by L.A.X. the airport. So when my kids landed to see Dad, because they were in Vegas, I didn't want them to have to get into Dad's car, drive up north, hour and a half.

They wouldn't want to come here. I wanted to make it easy. Come in your shorts, we'll be at the beach in 10 minutes. So I moved here. And you bring the family. There's a lot of moving parts. And on Saturday mornings, when I wasn't working, I would go to Pete's coffee. That was my place.

And I'd get a coffee. On a Saturday morning, I love coastal California weather. I grew up on the coast in Washington. A little chilly in a Saturday morning. Put a hoodie on, drink a coffee. And I'd sit or go to the pier and I'd watch the surfers. Okay, so I'd watch the surfers. And you sit there, kind of rhythmic, kind of therapeutic.

You can sit there and watch surfers because these guys and men and women, they're good. And so I would watch them, and I noticed something over the course of watching these surfers on Saturday. The very best surfers, the very best, were really patient. They were very, very precise and patient. They didn't just jump on everywhere. Some of these guys would sit there for half an hour and then ride the way. So the best surfers were the most patient. But when they saw that big wave coming, they would fight over it.

You see these guys elbow in each other like Dennis Robin in the finals. They all wanted that. And it's metaphorical for life. Very rarely do you get a great wave in life. You walk into a bar and you instantly know, I got to marry her. You get a friend at work. you have similar backgrounds, and you're like, that's a friend for life. You get an opportunity in life.

I tell my kids, be ready out of college. You could get the best job offer ever. At 21, be ready to roll. When you get Connor McGregor coming into your sport, Dana White was ready for it. When Tiger Woods arrives, Bryce Harper, Caitlin Clark, that is a wave that it's not only once a decade, boxing's never found another Muhammad Ali, ever. And I love Sugar Ray Leonard.

They never found another Ali. When Caitlin Clark arrives on your sport, don't be precious. Don't brag about how much you know about the WNBA. Nobody watched the WNBA. And now they sell out arenas. These waves in life are so infrequent. They're so rare.

Don't get arrogant. Don't get precious. Don't get rigid. When a big wave comes, you grab that damn surfboard. You get on it. You ask her out on a date. You make a lunch date with your buddy that you meet at work. You take that job.

You promote that star. You may get one ever. You may get one Caitlin Clark ever. One Muhammad Ali. One Tiger Woods. For 10 years during Tiger. run. Rory's going to be tiger. This guy's going, there's no other tiger. Brother, there is no other tiger. Taking an iron, 280 out of the weeds at the U.S. Open, they don't make them like that.

That's it. That's it. That's the comet. Caitlin's the comet. You gather rounds. You look up in the sky. You may not get another one in your lifetime. Don't waste it. Don't get precious. Don't lecture us on how much you know about basketball. It's the Olympics. It's all political. You get to the end of her roster. Why is Kyrie Irving not on the Olympic team? He's better than about eight guys on that thing.

They don't want him. What didn't Isaiah Thomas make it? Michael didn't want him. Diana Tarasi's on this team. You're not one of the best 15 players, but they like her. She is women's basketball. There you go. Grabbed a surfboard, brother.

I think they'd both work in the NBA, but you have to be careful. This is not the NFL. You don't get seven draft picks. They're all 23 years old. They're ready to

play. You get 19-year-olds. It is hard. You might have to add Joe Missoula to that list. I mean, think about this in the NFL. There's a lot of NFL coaches that are safe. Like, I mean, you can go through that. I mean, Harbaugh is going to be there for five years. And he reads there as long as he wants. Sean Payton's going nowhere. Kyle Shanahan, Sean McVeigh, I can go through the NFL and find 10 coaches. They're going nowhere. Now, Nick Sariani's got to win pretty

quick. Whoever coaches Carolina's got a win. Mike McDaniel's in Miami as long as he wants. Robert Sala, Hotsey. Hotsey. There's about eight guys in the NFL night. They're not going anywhere. Kerr-Spolstra Popovich. That's it. Everybody else in the league

is a star ticked off, wanting him out of town away from getting fired. Finch is in really good shape. I think Malone is too, but if Yokit's turned tomorrow, Malone's done. And if Ant turned on Finch tomorrow, he's done. Pat Riley defended

Spolster against LeBron when they got a little turbulent. There's three guys in the NBA are going nowhere. I don't think Malone's going anywhere. I don't either. But if Yolkits turned on him, you're getting a new coach. The way the league works. NFL doesn't work that way. It's much

more of a coach's league. And And so, again, it's, that's why if I was a college football coach, I'd roll the dice on the NFL. If I was a college basketball coach, it would have to be perfect. When I came to Fox, it was easy. They had a news channel that worked. You know, they had a movie business that worked. That had succeeded at multiple things. That's an easy pivot.

They did sports really well. Like, that's an easy pivot. That's like an NFL job. I'm at one job. It's a little different job, but it's kind of the same. In football, you give me a good, if Buffalo opened up tomorrow, you take the job. I got Josh Allen. You just take the job.

I mean, Jim Harbaugh had the best job in college football, arguably. I'm taking the chargers. I got Justin Herbert. Zach Taylor gets whacked in Sincere. You take the job. Joe Burrow healthy. But in the NBA, I mean, Steve Kerr is safe. That's a bit of a hot mess.

I don't know what they are. I think Missoula, when he gets his title with Boston, come on. They like him a lot. By the way, they're 14 and 2 in the playoffs. 14 to 2. It's amazing run so far. It's just very, very difficult. In the NBA, you need a bunch of things.

You need a non-crazy owner. You need an excellent general manager, like, you know, Miami, Boston. So you need a star that works and plays well with others. Not just a star. Mello was a star. You need a star that plays well with others. The right temperament matters significantly. And you also need some draft capital or expiring contracts to move pieces.

You can't even trade in the NBA unless salaries match. They make it very difficult. You can be the worst team in the league. You're not guaranteed the number one pick. The Detroit Pistons should have... They don't even get the number one pick because of ping pong balls. So it's a hard league. Jay Macklin News.

No, no, no, no. Turn on the news. This is the herd line news. Speaking of hard leagues, quarterback is a tough position to play and with Kirk Cousins in Atlanta, the Minnesota Vikings are finding out, hey, we got a rookie and, oh, geez, Colin?

It looks like, it's early. J.J. McCarthy is two or three on the depth chart squarely behind your guy. Sam Darnold. Sammy. And there are some reports that Nick Mullins is getting a lot of second team reps in practice. Well, McCarthy is a, he's a project. This idea that he, first of all, you're not a big-armed guy.

So why take him at 12? Because you need to have your future. Darnold's not your future. Sam Darnold right now is bigger, stronger, and better than J.J. McCarthy. No question. Sorry, 10th he went to. No question, Sam's better now. Now, is he better than Caleb Williams now?

I would say no. Is he better than Jalen Daniels now? I would say no. But he's better than Drake May. Probably better than Bo Nix. Better than J.J. McCarthy. I don't know if he's better than Panics because I think Panics throws the prettiest ball

I've ever seen out of college. Colin, they just gave Justin Jefferson the massive deal. Yeah. You do that with a quarterback on the rookie deal. Don't you want him in there? Get reps in there. By year two. You don't want to waste three years, but year one?

Patrick Mahomes sat for a year. J.J. McCarthy can sit for a year. Patrick Mahomes sat while Alex Smith, a former number one pick led them to the playoffs. Darnel was a first round pick, a lot of talent. You guys all love to remind me about Baker when you want a playoff game. Just keep your eye on old Sammy Darnold.

I don't know if we have a research team that can get this. It would take some time. How many quarterbacks drafted in the first round started third on the depth chart as a rookie? Colin, that just does not happen. Come on. This would not be good if he's like not even dressed because Nick Mullins beat him out for the backup spot. Well, let's not make it. into something bigger than it is.

You're right. It's June. But... You know, sometimes it's hard. New offense. Big ass. It's hard for these guys. The first camp is tough. I love when you're just being generous and want to give them away. Well, I think, I mean, Lamar Jackson, you know, they started in week 11. You can't...

DeMarre had to learn a new offense. He had a new coordinator. It's a new city. It's a lot. He was fair. He was, I think, the last big in the first round. But nevertheless, let's move to baseball. Dodgers Yankee series was phenomenal over the weekend. L.A. Repetched the first two games. The first two meetings, which included X-Radings in game one,

a big blowout in game two, thanks to a grand slam. Well, last night, the Yankees finally got one thanks to Aaron Judge's Mammoth, league-leading 24th home run of the season. Pitch the judge. Oh, he hit that one to left. Oh, you just forget about it. The only question is, where's it going to land in the second deck? Oh, what a bomb for the captain.

Adios, Amigo. Aaron Judge just put the baseball into the second deck way back in left field. Measure that one. Number 24 on the season. And the Yankees, now with a two-run lead, it is now 6 to 4. Oh, what an absolute bomb. What a great weekend of baseball. Philly's Mets in London was a blast.

Bryce Harper getting the home run sliding over to the dugout. Mets, that was a really interesting series. When you make baseball an event and you keep the pitch clock and it speeds the game up, really easy. I watched every pitch on Friday, game flew by. It was good. It was good pitching. 183 at the half with 28 unanswered points. Meanwhile, Wade Phillips, the former defensive mastermind in the NFL, led the Brahmus to an upset road win over the favored Battlehawks. The U.F.L. Championship game is this Sunday at 5 Eastern on Fox. Where to go, Wade Phillips? Wade Phillips, great coach. Good guy. He was with McVeigh with the ram.

He's just a very sharp defensive mind. Nice upset for him. Look at this. Should be a good championship game. He had a hot mic on and started swearing. Way to go. That's fun. What a weekend.

And I haven't been on the interweb this morning, but it's, you know, these big brands don't get turned down,

lot, but it's, again, if you turn down the Yankees, it'd be crazy because you have Aaron Judge in his prime. You have a couple players in their prime. Your pitching's great. Garrett Cole, and you still have a lot of money. That'd be crazy. If you turn down the chiefs, if Andy Reid retired, I have Mahomes, I have Brett Beats, the GM, you'd be crazy.

It's not the NBA. I got two old stars, one's brittle. Austin Reeves is my third best player, but on most nights, or many, he can be the second best player because AD or LeBron are out. The West is loaded. There's a salary cap. It's not a rich ownership group, and they don't have many draft picks. It's not the Yankees. It's not Kansas City. These leagues

are different. Basketball is rough on its coaches. And they offered him, so basically the Lakers low-balled Ty Lou, and they only offered Hurley six years and 70 million. So they offered

Hurley $11.5 million the Pistons gave Monty Williams 13. L.A. Lakers. Basically, over four years, gave $10 million less in their offer to Dan Hurley than the Pistons did the Monty Williams.

Monty Williams was a great coach, but also, they got to pay Darwin Ham for $5 million for the rest of his contract. Shouldn't have fired him? So what you think they just paid more and Hurley would have taken it? I don't know. $11 million. Well, everybody has a lot. It's like double his salary, the Yukon or whatever. I know he's got a new deal. Everybody's got a line.

Who are you the million? man, Ted DiBiase, everybody's got a price. Classic wrestling. You know, I'm saying if Vice came to me for $100 million a year, you're not going there. I'd be doing a late night show smoking something. I'd be off the air and like,

used to be an intern at Fox Sports and we said this kid's so good, let's hire him. He's out in Jersey. He is joining us. He knows all about the East Coast and all about Yukon basketball. John, I appreciate it. We remember when he used to wander around here. Good for you. Congratulations. Let's start with this. If I said to you, because I theorized he wouldn't take the job. His wife is from Jersey. Do you think his family and his wife played a part in this?

Absolutely. They played everything in this, Colin. Andrea Hurley is, she's the queen of the Hurley family, and she has all the say in the world. She saved Dan Hurley in college. Dan has, talked about this. He's been very outspoken about how he's achieved happiness now at Yukon. He dealt with some mental health problems in his playing days at Seton Hall. And Andrea is someone that he met, and his life's been changed ever since. She is his rock, and his family absolutely played a part in this. Bob Sr. and his wife, parents are a fixture at Yukon Games, and Bob Sr. is very much involved with the program and with his son, Dan, and of course, Bobby out in Arizona State.

But that all matters. A kid from Jersey City who gets to play his games either at Connecticut or what has become another home for this program, Madison Square Garden, you can't mess with happiness, not when you're on top of the mountain, and you've got a shot at a three-peat, something that only in men's college basketball, John Wooden can say. The family absolutely mattered in this. The other thing is I saw Jay Wright's name get wedged into this, and I know Jay, I love Jay,

I know he's very content broadcasting. What do you make of that kind of late insertion into this job search? Colin, I make of it that it wouldn't be a marquee coaching search if Jay Wright's name didn't get brought up at some point. It's like it could be featured in a coaching search drinking game. Jay Wright got brought up. Yeah, yeah. Take a sip.

He's very happy with his career in TV. He loves being one of the voices of college basketball. He is enjoying that life. I don't think that Jay ever really entertained this thought. He got out of college basketball because of certain headaches. And as you have noted on your show, the Lakers have more questions than answers right now in terms of their organizational trajectory. and what they're dealing with. Jay Wright knows this.

He loves life on the road calling college basketball games throughout the season, getting summers off, getting some nights out with our friend, Mr. Bill Raftery, and enjoying life that way. He was not going to jump at this offer. Yeah, I think you're right. I want to go back to, I've had this theory that college basketball has had a rough seven, eight years,

but that the NIL actually empowers it a little. Yukon got one of their players to come back. If a kid can make $800 grand now at college, a lot of these late first round guys, they'll just stay in college instead of go to G League. Is that a – and Hurley's only recruiting the big dogs, is that part of it that he got one of his guys to come back and commit to Yukon?

Absolutely. He has more control at U. that he would have ever had as the head coach, the Los Angeles Lakers, or as an NBA head coach. Look, college basketball, it's beyond free agency in the off season. You're talking about close to 2,000 transfers that are in the portal. Wow. But for Dan Hurley, life's more enjoyable than it's not at Yukon. Other programs might not necessarily be able to say that.

But Colin, you think about it, a lot of people have said, well, he's in the Big East. He's not in a football league. that's to his benefit in my humble opinion. He gets to be king of a league that still plays their conference tournament and Madison Square Garden and still prioritizes what he prioritizes. And that's basketball. Basketball at the highest level. Yukon's going to dedicate every resource they have.

The state of Connecticut just in the last hour, Governor Ned Lamont telling reporters they want to make Hurley the highest paid college basketball coach. Again, you don't mess with happiness. and you said it with the NIL. Zach Eady. Zach Eaddy wasn't coming back into college unless he got a lot of resources. And trust us, he got a lot of resources to do so.

Armando Beacott stayed around in North Carolina for that very reason. And you can see the returnees. Hunter Dickinson is still going to be in college basketball this upcoming season at Kansas. The casual person may say Hunter Dickinson is still playing college. I remember when he was at Michigan. But the fact is, those guys can,

benefit more by playing college basketball than they ever would by no one seeing them when they're playing in G league games. Yeah. That's good. That's good stuff. John Fanta, see, he was an intern, and the interns, you know, we don't just have them get coffee. We give them jobs and responsibilities, and way to go.

Congratulations. You know, my internships were quick, and they got me out of the door. I'm happy for you, John. Thank you for coming on our show on late notice. Thank you. Anytime, Colin. Thanks so much for having. Of course, John, Fanta, National College basketball broadcaster and reporter.

He's got all sorts of insight. He's totally plugged in. So this is great stuff. You know, he makes a really good point. This is a really good point, Jay Mack. Yukon's not in a football power league. Like, right? He's the king.

It's a basketball conference. It's like I talked to Mark Few about this. He's not wrestling in the athletic department with a football coach and every booster at Gonzaga. they're all basketball boosters. You know, you go to USC and you're Andy Enfield. Well, Lincoln Riley's boost. He got all the boosters. You go to UCLA.

Well, the basketball team gets them. The football coach doesn't get all the boosters. You go to Yukon. Nothing wrong with their football, but big dogs are on men's and women's basketball. It's a basketball school. College basketball just doesn't drive near the revenue that football does. So even last week, remember I said Kentucky, is now a football school.

That's what the AD wants. The basketball people, of course, think, hey, it's a basketball school. But the AD knows, hey, we're in the SEC, we got to make money, we've got to be a football school. That's what you have to do. Yes, yes. Because football drives revenue.

Not the case for Yukon, but I wonder how long can they continue to hold on to Hurley being a basketball school when the revenue's not there. Well, remember, it's very interesting. So when you get to these four or five, when you get to, it's not like Vermont's a basketball power, but they do have an academy that produces really good high school players. So you get your Maine,

your Vermont, your Delaware, your New York. New York doesn't have a bad. Syracuse now that Beheim's out. Syracuse is a good basketball program. Villanova's private. It's a good program. But Yukon and that, all those people and all those basketball players, Yukon gets the number

one pick. Generally gets the best player. Syracuse or Yukon. That's a big area with a lot of good high school basketball and you get two of the top three players. You've got to wonder when you know, the Dukes and the UNCs of the world are going to start to get up in that area and start to pull guys.

Well, they have occasionally. Yeah. They got, clearly not enough. I mean, Yukon's been more relevant than both. For years and years, Joe Paterno at Penn State, if you were a good high school football player in that five-state block, Joe Paw got you. Well, Dan Hurley's getting you.

So it used to be Villanova, but Jay Wright retires. And it was Syracuse. Beheim retires. So Dan Hurley is the king. For now. Well, what's the first? wrong with being the king for now? Well, there's nothing wrong. Great. Take your titles and then move on. In France, they can dissolve the parliament, but right now they're not dissolving Yukon

basketball. Even Broussard kind of agreed on me. You got to strike while the iron is hot. This was a great opportunity. You guys out here. What about American loyalty? You and Broussard around here. The Orlando job could be open next year. Maybe Hurley will jump to the Orlando Magic. Well, what's wrong with that? Palo Bancaro. Paolo Bancaro. No state tax? Disneyland for the kids? You are the taxes. You're just obsessed with this.

It's not that, yes, the highest taxes in the country are in California. There's a reason, though, that everybody wants to flock to California. Well, yeah, Falamignon costs a little bit. Yeah, I'm not lying. So the point being, I'm kind of joking with that, but I do think, you know, I'm not perceived as Mr. Loyal, right? I've bounced around a lot. You know, I mean, I've had jobs and I've moved around. UConn's not just another job.

And I also think there is something very, I noticed this when I went to the other place. West Coast people, every West Coast friend I have, has been to Europe, has been to New York. West Coast people are much more willing and interested in trying the East. A lot of East Coast people, they've never gone west of the Hudson. they don't they think literally america is basically in the stage coach era once you get west of the hudson because when you live in new york new york's the centerpiece i mean you vacationed you know sag harbor you go down to florida you don't come west so when the hurley family is all east coast and the east coast more than the west is very much about tradition so these i mean i when i

moved out east, the prep schools, people like sent their entire family to prep schools, camps for 50 years. If you go to a private prep school out here, it's drug rehab. Out there, it's like an academic

power. So it's just, I mean, I really appreciated it. The East Coast is about traditional and Kennebunkport, Sag Harbor, Martha's Vineyard. I mean, it's tradition. It's, it is, I mean, when you go to school in Boston when you're a kid, and you open a book, they're like, yeah, Plymouth Rock, America

started here. When you go in Oregon, it's like, well, Lewis and Clark mozied through, but, you know, it started back there. Plymouth Rock. The one big thing, I know you're not a big church guy, but we went to church, growing up, go to church, East Coast. You go there to church, and it's like, you can't roll up in jeans. Like, everybody's in, like, either a suit, slacks, button up. We came out here and went church hunting in the South Bay, and you rock in, and it's like guys in hoodies and like jeans and flip-flops totally different mindset and i just you can't really like explain it until you have people come out and see it and live it when i when i worked at the old place i would tell people they go oh yeah i've always wanted to go to seattle and i'm like

it's not yemen it's just a four and a half hour flight but it was a real adventure we're going we're going to seattle this year every west coast buddy i have goes to new york every every eight weeks. Yeah. Like, it's just different. West to East travel is just understood. You're going to go to D.C. You're going to go to New York.

You're going to go to Chicago. You're going to go to Dallas. You're going to try Miami the Keys. To get East West, I think it's much easier for West Coast people to sample the East. When you come to L.A., half of it's New Yorkers. You go to New York. You don't see a lot of surfers on Wall Street.

You don't go down Lexington Avenue, Lexington and Madison and see Jeff Spacoli very often. He would fit in out here. He would. He would easily fit in. He got great bagel spots out here. D. Early, like the New York bagel, you know. They got them everywhere. So, you know, we called it today.

We told you. You know, sometimes we get it right here. And listen, Hurley, not picking the Lakers means five more days of Laker names. JJ Redick, I don't know. Is Frank Vogel going to get back in the way? Can we do where Colin was right to end the show today? I mean, God. I mean, I might as well do an extra segment today, seriously.
