and you go to January 5th, end of the regular season, the only priority for the Jets to be viable, keep Aaron Rogers upright. Not tight, just keep him upright. Now, I was okay with the offensive tackle, but you're bringing up an interesting point during the break, and I want you to share it with our audience on the Jets pick. Yeah, so Joe Douglas comes in, his introductory press conference,

he talks about how they're going to fix the offensive line. So I look back at it. They've brought in 30 offensive linemen since he's been there. 30. They've drafted seven, three number ones and number two, so they've drafted high. They brought in 23 free agents and spent somewhere between $175 and $200 million on free agent offensive lineman,

And we're back to the same spot. We're talking about keeping Aaron Rogers upright. They brought in three free agents this offseason to help fix the offensive line. So at some point, like I get it, they're trying and maybe just law of averages, this will work out. But you got an opportunity to go get Brock Bowers and play some 12 personnel, two tight end sets, where in that situation, you've got quick answers for Aaron Rogers. You've got the ability to balance the formation, run left, run right. throw to either side out of balance formations, use those guys in protection, and it's just,

I understand the O-Lines of problem, and I understand you have a 40-year-old quarterback, but this process hasn't worked. So maybe they've radically changed the process, but we're talking about 30 guys that have come through there, and it's still a problem. No, that's a good point. Now, I thought it was odd that the Falcons got a quarterback, but it's the worst division in the sport. It's a bad division. They now have the best starting quarterback,

in my opinion, in the division, and the best backup in the NFC or the league. I'm okay being quarterback heavy for a year, and I don't know what Kirk Cousins is going to look like at 36 off an Achilles. I'm okay with it. You don't like it. Yeah, I heard you auditioning

for the Atlanta Falcons PR job earlier. I do have a problem with it. And I heard you say, you know if you have a great asset you have to ensure a great asset okay but they're not a great asset they haven't had a winning season in six years so become a great asset so you've got kirk cousins you've got bjohn robinson you've got drake london you've got kyle pits again you can add in the lead tight end you can add another star wide receiver you've got a very

good offensive line and and you move forward with the hundred million dollars that you spent on the quarterback and i'm i'm good with with a backup quarterback i think it's important and i think quarterbacks are currency and i think it's valuable but but you're you're dealing with the eighth pick overall and and you're dealing with a situation where you've got a chance to take a real jump as an offense and add another explosive weapon and maybe become that great asset they were talking about

and yeah if kirk gets hurt it could be a problem but if patrick mahomes gets hurt that's a problem too for for kansas city so at that point trade back if that's if that's what you want to do do add some assets so if you are really good maybe you're picking high with the team that you traded with just like Chicago fund themselves in the situation with Carolina but the owner's 81 years old it's not like he's sitting around waiting like I'm going to wait another two or three years for us to be the team that I we envisioned ourselves to be so so you've got you don't hire

Bill Belichick you could agree or disagree with that you make that decision and then you draft a quarterback after you sign a $100 million quarterback. You know, if I'm the owner, I'm sitting back and thinking, maybe I've got to reevaluate things. Yeah. The, you know, people said, I saw Bo Nix play live twice. Oregon mostly schemed up his plays. But that's what Sean Payton does.

Like Shanahan, I'm going to scheme up the play. Get rid of it fast and accurately. I think Bo Nix works in Denver. He may be a top of the second round guy. But I watched them as a freshman, beat an Oregon team and Justin Herbert on the final drive as an 18-year-old. I don't know. I think he's a little, I don't know.

I like Pennix and Bo Nix more than everybody else. I wasn't a big J.J. McCarthy guy. Did Denver reach, in your opinion, on Nix? I mean, they need a quarterback, don't they? Well, when Peyton Manning talked about Denver wanting J.J. McCarthy, I have a feeling that Peyton Manning was right. And when he looked at the draft room after they took them, it didn't look like there was a lot of celebrating and high-fiving going on that they got Bo Nix. And maybe I'm wrong on it, but it felt sort of like that situation where you wake up Christmas morning and you're hoping for an Xbox and you get a bunch of clothes.

Like, yeah, it's practical. It's okay. Like, I get it. It's nice that you got a gift. And it's the old adage. You never want to go shopping hungry. with that quarterback room, they're shopping's starving. Yeah.

Okay, so you got Stidim, you got Zach, you've got Ben Danucci, and then you got Russell Wilson's ridiculous dead cap money, all sitting in that quarterback room. You had to go get somebody, but I heard all the stats, and I heard all the positive things, but you watch the reaction. It didn't feel like that passion that you get when you got someone, hey, we couldn't believe he was there.

We're so lucky he fell to us. none of those comments were coming out of the you know the post post draft interviews so the Raiders didn't move up to get a quarterback they got a tremendous tight end what did you say about that what do you think about that

it looked like they took best available at that point and I've always felt that a tight end is incredibly valuable because of the type of pressure that they can put on the inside of the defense and how that opens up everything outside and we see it

the time with Travis Kelsey, the value that has. And if you need quick answers, and we talk about protection for quarterbacks, the tight end can be that protection because they get open quickly, they give you, they give you throws that are makeable and easy completions. And to add a player like that and an explosive player like that, to me I think not only helps them offensively inside, but it helps open up things outside and to some degree the running game. Yeah.

What was your favorite pick? Did you have one you loved? I liked that the Giants stood where they were and took neighbors. I liked him a lot. I think that in Brian's offense, and Brian Daibald has always been very creative offensively. He was my offensive coordinator in Cleveland. He was my quarterback coach of the Jet. So I've been with him a long time and understanding how he thinks. He wants guys like neighbors who has that versatility.

They can play inside. They can play outside. that can hurt you on wide receiver screens. You can hand him the ball. But it's not just that he also has the ability to get open on traditional runs. And there's that element of run after the catch where he can generate some plays. And the Giants, they need someone that can generate some plays. So I'm glad they didn't go quarterback and muddy things up.

And they've got a weapon for Daniel Jones, who has shown that he's been able to win in this system when he's been healthy. By the way, wide receiver is the biggest miss rate in the last 20 years in the draft. What's your theory on that? Because everybody said, oh, Chief Scott Xavier Worthy, and I'm like, not a polished route runner, really fast, 165 pounds, track guy, a lot of drops. I mean, Mahomes and Andy Reid, I'm sure they'll make it work. But, I mean, if you go look at Lederius, Tony didn't work. Sky Moore hasn't worked.

They've got a lot of guys that haven't worked. Even Kansas City, as well run as they are in San Francisco. They've both missed on a half a dozen wide receivers. Why is that such a hard position? Well, there's a million of them, and I wasn't very good at evaluating wide receivers when I was a head coach, and then I missed on some, especially in Cleveland night, a couple second rounders that I took wide receivers on.

And as you go through that evaluation process, there's where the guy is as a player in college, and you can get excited by some of the wild plays and some of the explosive plays and lose track of who they're against and and and who's throwing in the football and how much growth they have as a wide receiver. I think that's, that's an element of it too, is how much growth they have as they come into the NFL or is what you're seeing on tape really the ceiling of who they're going to be. And it's hard to evaluate, but you see a lot of late round guys and you see small school guys

or programs that aren't as developed, they really hit it big in the NFL because when they get into a sophisticated system, when they get into a sophisticated training, they pop where some of these guys were at top programs. They've leveled out and you see what you get and it's just not good enough in the NFL.

J-MAC with the news. No, no, no, no. Turn on the news. This is the Herdline News. First up, the Arizona Cardinals decided to keep their pick at four. They went with Marvin Harrison Jr. Steve Kime highlighted the defensive player they got. A nice first round.

Listen, when you get two first round picks, everybody loves your draft. Right. Kyler Murray gets an elite receiver in Harrison, and he reacted on social media saying, let's rock. Colin, I don't know, DeAndre Hopkins and Kyler had a nice little run. Expectations for Marvin Harrison Jr. and Kyler? I think he's going to be sensational. I don't think there's going to be.

Kyler throws an accurate football. There's nothing about him that worries me. He's just terrific. Probably too hot of a take for right now, but just file it away. Last year, everybody whiffed on Tampa Bay. Nobody saw them coming. Is there a world where the Cardinals are 9 and 8, 10, and 7 pushing for a wild card spot with a bunch of draft picks, healthy Kyler Murray, high-impact guy and Marvin Harrison.

Last year, remember, they were competitive before the quarterback situation. They were a little bit like the Raiders. You felt they were overachieving. Excellent effort in games. They had a new coach. A lot of newness last year. I think they're going to be really improved. And I mean, I'm dead serious here.

I don't know what Seattle's going to do a quarterback. Arizona's got a playmaker. I mean, if you start looking at that draft last night, those good players. They got a lot of picks. I just wonder, like, what's the order in that division? What just file the 49ers away is first?

Rams second? No, no, no, no, no. I think the Rams. Okay, fine. Rams Niners. Arizona third. And I think Arizona pushes the Niners for second. I think Arizona is going to get 11 players in the draft,

six really good players, six high-end starters. This is a very good draft early, and they've got a lot of picks early. It's a very good draft. And I thought they played really hard last year, and you know I like Kyler. So now they've got a star receiver, a tight end we both like, a star back, a star quarterback. They're going to address offensive line, my guess, and corner, I think, and edge rusher. It's got some pieces. It really comes down to Kyler Murray.

It does. I like their, I think they got some players. Well, if you see him this summer in Vegas, next time you go, you know, just... You know, last time I saw him, he was very friendly. He would have been friendlier if my cohort didn't... I was not there. He probably wouldn't have come over, but he was very, very... He came over to you?

Wow, dude, that's big time, man. We were at the UFC fight in the media room, and I walked over, and he's like, yo. Oh, you walked over. No, I mean, we just kind of were in the same space. My wife was there. It's a cool feeling when, like, you know, ladies come across the room to talk to you, or, like, Big-time athletes. That doesn't happen.

Max Crosby, Christian McCaffrey, Kyler Murray did. Yeah, I like Kyler, and he was in a great mood. He was laughing. He likes UFC stuff. Like, he showed up for the whole card. He didn't show up late. He was there early.

Interesting. Okay. All right. Let's move on to the Eagles. They drafted Toledo quarterback Quinion Mitchell with the 22nd pick last night. Here's the Dallas Cowboys angle. Micah Parsons went off.

He was not happy. Philly landed one of his favorite players in the draft. Here's what he had to say. I'm honestly utterly disgusted on how lucky the Eagles are. It's just like Chris Lucas, I do not know how he fell that far with this run of offensive tackles and quarterbacks. That's the only thing that makes sense. I thought he was a top 15, top 12 talent, and he just fell right into their lives.

And he was your favorite player? He was definitely one of my more favorite players in his drive. Like I said, he rose in every bar. He hit every, like every, he checked every box. We're in a new era, Colin. This Quinion Mitchell kid. He's nice. Okay, no way.

So he plays at Toledo. Nobody cares. It's like Sauce Gardner plays at Cincinnati. A second level stuff. This kid played the Notre Dame game. So the best team he played Notre Dame. This is like Khalil Mack when he was at Buffalo and played the Buckeyes and like lit up the Buckeyes. This kid played Notre Dame.

Go look at his stat line. It's a monster. So, but, okay, great. Quine and Mitchell is going to be nice. We're in an era now. where current stars in the league are chiming in on draft picks as they happened. That has never before happened in draft history. I'm just curious.

Like, okay, so Michael Parsons is disgusted. The Eagles got Quinn and Mitchell. If you're a defensive back who's with Michael Parsons at practice and you're like, what, you wanted us to get him? Am I not good enough? Do you think, remember, we've got some sensitive athletes these days. Do you think this opens a can of worms like, oh, man. C.J. Stroud said, I love that guy.

I wish we had gotten Purcell, you know. Does, is there potential of rubbing other teammates the wrong way when a star is out chiming in on guys like this? Well, I think everybody understands the first round of the NFL draft. It's a candy store. I mean, I think everybody, these are great players. Fans are, players are fans of players. And I don't think anybody is slighted when you're like, oh, my God, we got this player. Listen, the one position that hurts people's feelings is quarterback.

Jordan Love Pick hurt Aaron's feelings. The Michael Pennix pick, it hurts Kurt Cousins' feelings. The Jimmy Garoppolo's second round hurt Tom's feelings. So the quarterback position's always been a little bit, because there's like one quarterback takes the snaps. By and large, though, if you're any other position, if you're a receiver and they draft the receivers, like, bro, that means they want you to hit so I don't get double covered. Everybody wants another good corner.

Everybody wants another good. I mean, Max Crosby, the Raiders would love if they went and got another edge rock. Yeah. I just, part of me thought like I don't hear Colin Cowherd out in the media say, oh man, that kid over there is super talented. We could, oh man, he's so good. I would feel like, hey, what about me? And Jordan Shultz has got a lot of town. I hear good things about Jordan Shultz. Final story, we're headed into week five of the UFL season. Birmingham Stallions, only undefeated team at 4-0. Tomorrow on Fox, the stallions look to keep things rolling against the one-and-three roughnecks. They just got their first dub last week. Stallion's basically dominating the league, lead to UFL in total yards, passing yards, rushing yards, second in scoring offense. It's basically a football weekend. You get the draft, and then you get some football action later on.

Also, tonight, did the Boston Celtics go to Miami? Crazily, I haven't, I don't think they do? They do not. Is that tomorrow, Alex? Tonight I actually like all the home teams. Clippers, Mavs. take Dallas at home tonight. Yep.

And the Kevin Durant moment. So this is a two TV night. And then Saturday's maybe like a three TV day with UFL, draft, NBA. I don't know if golf's happening, tennis maybe. That's a good news. I'm playing in a soccer tournament Saturday. I can live stream it for you if you're interested. No.

Just reading a text from an NFL coach. He said, you know, nobody's taken care of Kirk Cousins more than Kirk Cousins financially. What's wrong with a team saying, we're going to take care of us? I mean, the guy said like a month ago, I want to retire a Falcon.

Like, come on. And Atlanta can say we want you to retire a Falcon backup. But I mean, Kirk has taken care of Kirk. As well, he should. You've got to look out for number one. So should the owner Arthur Blank and the franchise. Number one, we're taking care of. And that's the quarterback position.

The player can take out care of himself. The franchise should take care of itself. I mean, you can say what you want about this. Right now, Atlanta has the best quarterback in their division. He's older, off of surgery, and absolutely the most talented backup. No, well, in the division? Michael Panix? Have you seen the division backer?

He's arguably the second best quarterback. He may be the best quarterback in that division. Four teams, okay, four teams wanted him in the first team. Allegedly, people say stuff after the fact all the time. One took him, and another one I know it's true. If he's the best backup, why was he the first backup? Why was he the fourth quarterback off the board, Colin? Come on, let's settle down on him.

Because it's the richest quarterback draft in a long time. If you want to say he's got a lot of talent, fine. He's got a lot of talent. Come on. Four teams were interested moving up. None for JJ McCart. The Raiders? Like dumb teams that do dumb things,

wanted to move up and draft a quarterback. Seahawks? Are the Seahawks that great? I don't know. They haven't figured out their quarterback since Russell Wilson. They made the playoffs two years ago. They got rid of Wilson. They did poorly well in that Russell Wilson trade.

I mean, Fair, all right, fine, they did okay and the Russell Wilson trip. All those teams had a chance to draft J.J. McCarthy in the top ten. None did. We snuffed that out. We knew that that was all smokes for them. Four teams were interested in Pennix. Is it possible

we've seen this before that the fourth best quarterback Pennix may be the second best quarterback in the draft to Caleb? Josh Allen was like the third quarterback picked? It ended up being the best? Lamar was fifth. I mean, folks, it keeps happening. It's not a shock if Caleb was the best quarterback and Pennix was the second

best quarterback. Whoever's quarterbacking Atlanta with those weapons and that old line and those running backs is going to be good. Oh really? Desmond Ritter? Hello? Well, he's not a franchise quarterback. All right. He does it every Friday predicts the future in headlines. Tomorrow's headlines today. What's the headline for the bears this season? So, you know the saying is you can never win the Super Bowl in the free agency and the draft? You can't even really like secure a wild card spot. I'm going to go ahead and disagree. The headline will be stop. Collaborate and listen. Bears are going back to compete in the division. Little rapping here on a Friday. Listen, Colin, I'm not kidding. When I look at the schedule, are you ready for this? We're starting to dive into the schedule.

The order's not out yet. They're going to face six quarterbacks who are first or second year quarterbacks. Okay. There's a bear's defense that started to improve toward the end of the season. They got a number one quarterback, a good edge rusher, but it's the offense to get really excited about. Honestly, last year, it's basically DJ Moore and a bunch of guys. Now, Colin, Keenan Allen was the number one with the charges like two years ago. He's now a

So what, they're going to wait to make them a starter at 26 in two years? Just so many questions to ask, Colin, they could have gone out and got Roma Dunezay.

And now you got Rome and Drake London opposite. And Randall Moore, and they've got three receivers now. The else around the league is he's not good. Can't stay healthy. Can't run routes. Clearly McCarthy wasn't viewed JJ like everybody was selling. Clearly, Pennix had a much higher evaluation from the league than everybody said. We talked about this. You've seen Pennix live in the building. He's amazing. There was no reason for him to drop. I like Pennix and I'm rooting for him. I just think the situation he's in with having. to wait for Kirk Cousins is not a favorable one, Colin, especially when you got quarterbacks drafted ahead of him, who are going to start from day one.

It just feels wrong for Pennix. I'm rooting for him. I just feel bad. Tomorrow's headlines today. Vikings get J.J. McCarthy. Yeah, it's weird. J.J. McCarthy was the bell of the ball all for, like, the last three weeks, and now he's Vikings not a lot of juice.

From Desmond Ritter to Kirk Cousins. That's a four-game swing. But I do think next week I will have my seven playoff teams. We've been pretty good on this. I'm also curious. Somebody's from that playoffs. You know, we haven't mentioned them. The Colts got the best edge rusher. I think the Colts are in that division, by me. I'm sorry, Texans fans. So all of a sudden the Colts now, they've been looking for that edge guy for a few years. So it's like, oh, they got him. They need the tight end.
