This is an I-Heart podcast.
Guaranteed Human.
Another podcast from some SNL, late-night comedy guy, not quite.
Unhumor me with Robert Smygel and friends.
Me and hilarious guests from Bob Odenkirk to David Letterman
help make you funnier.
This week, my guest, SNL's Mikey Day and head writer, Streeter Seidel,
help an a cappella band with their between songs banter.
Where does your group perform?
We do some retirement homes.
Those people are starving for banter.

Imagine an Olympics where doping is not only legal, but encouraged.
It's the enhanced games.
Some call it grotesque.
Others say it's unleashing human potential.
Either way, the podcast's Superhuman documented it all, embedded in the games and with the athletes
for a full year.
Within probably 10 days, I'd put on 10 pounds.
I was having trouble stopping the muscle growth.

On the Look Back at it podcast.
For 1979, that was a big moment for me.
84 was big to me.

And I'm Alex English.
Each episode, we pick a year, unpack what went down, and try to make sense of how we survived it.
With our friends, fellow comedians, and favorite authors.
Like Mark Lamont Hill on the 80s.
84 was a wild year.
It was a wild year.
I don't think there's a more important year for black people.

Soon Saturday,
legendary powerhouses collide as Bryce Young and the top-ranked Alabama Crimson Tide
take on the Texas Longhorns.
Starts at 10 Eastern with the Big Noon kickoff crew live from Austin,
and then it's Bama, Texas at noon eastern on Fox.
Will Anderson, the rush end for Alabama is going to face a freshman left tackle for Texas.
That's the game.
Albert Breers does great work Monday morning
quarterback he is now joining us live
his Buckeyes narrowly edge past Notre Dame so he's all
smiles whatever
Oh whatever okay narrow is a 11 point win
Quarterback didn't even play very well
Very turbulent first half Breer
Okay so Trebisca I just was told by the staff
They moved Kenny Pickett from third to second team
Which makes me feel better
How surprised are you they're going with Trubisky
It's kind of an old school organization they like
to do things slowly. What's your take? I'm not. I'm not surprised. You know, this is sort of the way
it's been going throughout camp. Trabisky's been taking the reps with the ones for the entire summer.
And Mike Tomlin's got a team that he believes is able to win right now. And I think he thinks
his job is to serve that team the best he can at that position. And right now, they feel like
that guy is Mitch Trabisky. I think the other thing that's a little problematic for them here,
Colin is that Kenny Pickett has looked great in the games, but he can be up and down and
practice a little bit. He's one of these guys who, when the lights come on, it looks really good,
but maybe it doesn't always look that way during the week and through training camp.
And so, you know, I think part of it's what's the easiest thing to sell to your team right
now is the guy who's going to give you the best chance to win.
Sure.
That's Trubisky right now. Maybe that changes over the course of the year.
Here's the other important nuance, too. Once you go with Pickett, you aren't going back, Con.
Right. And at least with Trubisky now, they do have the escape hatch that if it doesn't really work in a month or two, they can pull the plug and go to the rook.
All right. You know, Brady, he can get a little finicky when you get around his feet.
They had a disastrous camp between Ali Marpet retiring. Ryan Jensen hurt, another guard out. It's a bit of a mess.
Which, by the way, Green Bay, good defensive front. Rams, good defensive front. Philadelphia, some of these NFC foes, that's the strength of their team.
that defensive front.
Tom's not more mobile than he was five years ago.
So you kind of take away on what you expect from Brady,
retired on retired 11-day vacation during the camp.
What do you expect?
Well, I think there are a couple of things.
Number one, like they needed a bunch of guys who are older not to get old in a hurry.
And that's sort of the way the team has been built.
You know, there are older veterans in the team,
Julio Jones, Mike Evans, on the defensive side of the ball.
I mean, they've been all over the place.
And so, you know, how do they keep those guys fresh?
And that's been one of the focuses for Todd Bowles is managing the teams who training camp
because they did feel like they looked old, like they got tired at the end of last year.
So I actually think Tom Brady's 11-day break there was part of the whole overall plan
to pace all of their veterans a little bit differently than they did a year ago.
And then I think you're on the other part of it, which is the three guys right in front
of Tom Brady, what do they look like?
The book on Tom Brady has been, if you want to get to him, you've got to do it up the middle.
He's so proficient in moving up in the pocket and moving around in the pocket.
He can't do that if you can bring pressure up the middle.
So it's going to be really interesting to see on that Sunday night and that Sunday night opener against Dallas.
What the Cowboys do, maybe with Micah Parsons, over those three guys in front of Brady.
And in particular, the rookie Luke Godecki and then the second year center, Robert Hainesie.
I think those are the two guys to watch because, you know, again, like you look at the textbook for beating
Brady over the last 20 years. It's been pressure up the middle. And based on the makeup of the
Bucks offensive line, it looks like at least early in the year, you're going to be able to get them there.
Hey, we got, listen, college football looks more like pro football than it's ever looked.
The quarterbacks come in, ready to sling it. They're, you know, by the time they're 12 years old,
they got 10,000 snaps. So I think college guys are more capable than ever of playing really
early in the NFL and not really a Kenny Pickett issue, just an overall holistic view of it.
So are you seeing anything, any trends with rookies in the NFL coaches and rookies now?
Yeah, I mean, I think that part of it is what you're saying, that they've thrown the ball so much the rookie quarterbacks have that when they come into the NFL, there's no question that those guys, you know, have had more time on task than guys in the past.
And I think there's also the flexibility of, you know, the coaches to come more towards those quarterbacks.
And so Patrick Mahomes wasn't asking, Patrick Mahomes wasn't being asked to run the Andy Reid offense from Philadelphia in 2000 when he became the starter in 2018.
They were doing a lot of things they did at Texas Tech.
Same thing with Lamar Jackson in Baltimore.
And so, and that's why I'm confident if Kenny Pickett gets out there, the Steelers are going to be able to do things to make him comfortable.
He ran an offense at Pitt that was very much like an NFL offense.
And the guy who recruited him to Pitt was Matt Canada, who is now the Steelers.
offensive coordinator. So more and more, I think you're seeing NFL coaches kind of try to meet
their quarterbacks in the middle, and that's allowed them to get them on the field and make
them productive a lot faster. The problem this year is that it's just the quarterback class
coming out this year wasn't very good. But I think, you know, we'll go back to seeing that sort of thing
again when guys like Stroud and Young get to the NFL a year from now. Now, I'm not as high on the
Giants as J-MAC here and other people. There are a lot of people because of Dallas's erosion. And, you know,
Washington had a weird camp with Wins and Ron Rivera.
A lot of people like the Giants.
I don't.
I like their defensive line, but Kenny Goliday was a bad signing, it appears.
Evan Ingram no longer there.
O line is hit and miss.
I do think they found their tackles.
But Mike Kafka was named Playcaller for the Giants.
He's a former Northwestern quarterback, I think.
What, what, does that mean anything to you?
Does that land uniquely or?
No, I mean, I think that's sort of what it took to get Mike Kafka out of
out of Kansas City, you know, and if you look, like over the last three or four years,
if Eric B. Enemy had gotten a head coaching job somewhere else, Mike Kafka would have been
promoted to the offensive coordinator job. In fact, you know, while it was still within the
rules to do so, Andy Reid actually blocked Mike Kafka a couple times from leaving. So they really,
really liked him, and he was the offensive coordinator in waiting. And to get him to leave
Kansas City, and I think he could have become a head coach from that passing game coordinator
role in Kansas City. It was going to take giving him a little bit more.
and that's what the Giants did.
They offered him the chance to earn the opportunity to be the play caller,
which is what Kafka did over the last few months.
And I think it's also instructive to look at Brian Dayball's history.
And he worked for Bill Belichick,
who is very much a walk-around head coach
and kind of has his hands in all kinds of different things,
but may not always be the primary play caller on one side of the ball or the other.
And then Sean McDermott in Buffalo,
who's sort of taken a step back from being the guy on defense,
he lets Leslie Frazier handle a lot of that and kind of manages the team globally.
So I think this is a combination of what it took to get Kafka out of Kansas City
and also how Brian Dayball sees that head coaching role based on his own experience.
All right.
Give me some, you know, I'm not really big on preseason awards,
but people you think that could surprise us.
Like give me an MVP candidate that people may go, whoa, whoa, whoa, wait a minute.
I'll give you a couple guys I sort of see in that category.
on both sides of the ball.
I mean, on offense,
MVP candidate,
I would say Derek Carr is one
that I would keep an eye on.
And it's not because I think that
he's a different player than he was a year ago.
I just look at the situation around him
and kind of how he grew into a leadership role
in that locker room because of everything that hit the Raiders
last year, from Gruden getting fired
to the Henry Ruggs thing, to the Damon Arnett thing,
to all the tumult in the business side of the operation
there in Vegas. He's really in a different
place in the locker room than he ever has been before.
It's pretty good last year.
He was in the playoffs last year.
And oh, by the way, now he's got Devante Adams coming over.
And Josh Allen, Josh McDaniels as his play caller.
So Derek Carr is one that I think could be a dark horse MVP candidate.
Then if you want to flip it over to the other side of the ball,
and I'm not saying this guy's going to be the MVP of the league or anything like that.
But, you know, Rishon Gary, I think in Green Bay is very much a defensive player of the
year candidate.
You don't hear that name a lot.
The Packers are really, really high on where he is going.
into his fourth year. He's in a contract year. And I think, like, he's got a chance based on
everything that's around him. They're starting seven first round picks on defense to really be
highlighted as a guy who winds up with 15 or 20 sacks. So Gary would be won. And another dark course
on that side of the ball might be Patrick Sertan there in Denver. He's another guy who, just looking
at him at camp and talking to people there, looks like he's on the verge of having a very, very big year.
I think the Niners, it's a really interesting situation because I do think it helps when a college
quarterback comes in and has some real nice weapons to work with. But in Trey Lance's situations,
the weapons are so good that if he can't, if he doesn't engineer offense, it's like,
sorry, buddy, Garapolo got us to a Super Bowl. I reportedly Brandon Iyuk, who was really talented
at Arizona State, but like all these kids, it takes him a year. What have you heard? I've heard he
had a great camp. I didn't see anything. I just heard. Yeah. I've heard he was attached at the hip to Trey
Lance over the course of the off season. And because Debo Samuel was sort of staying off his feet and
protecting himself because of the contract situation, Debo Samuel, he was there for a lot of stuff
with Trey Lance that they were doing sort of off campus. But he may not have been doing the same amount
of work that Brandon Ayuk was on the field with the new quarterback Trey Lance. And so, I mean, look,
like if you're looking at the pecking order in San Francisco, the way that's going to break down,
of course, Debo Samuel and George Kittle are the two most accomplished.
skill players there and two of the reasons why it looks like Trey Lance is entering into a great situation.
But you look at like the way the last six months went, the way the season ended in San Francisco
last year where IUC was flying at the end of the year.
Yeah.
The natural improvement that he's gone to over the course of the year and now the relationship
with a new quarterback coming in who's going to be looking for a security blanket out there,
I think I you set up to have a very big year because he's got that relationship built in with
Tray Lance, they spent the last six months trying to build up.
I think Kevin O'Connell in Minnesota, sometimes there's just a situation where a team needs
a certain coach.
You know, the Rams McVeigh, Jeff Fisher was a defensive guy, he was old in the tooth,
they needed energy, they needed young in offense for golf.
He was kind of the magic elixir for all of it.
It's like they needed young, they needed a culture builder, they needed offense, they needed
basically a life preserver for golf.
off. McVeigh was perfect. So Kirk Cousins doesn't need a life preserver, but they lost more close
games than anybody. In the Zimmer situation, there were obvious fissures in the relationship.
You hear him now. You could sense it on the sideline. And Mike's old school, I think they need
like Goff did. Spirit, culture, optimism. I got to tell you, I think this, I don't know a ton about
them. They call them the tall Sean McVeigh. I think Minnesota pops, your thoughts.
You know what's interesting about this?
And I covered the 2007 Cowboys, and I can remember that that team going 13 and 3 and looking
unbeatable at points that year under Wade Phillips as their head coach.
And I remember talking to players about how a lot of the things that Bill Parcells had put in
place were still there.
And the discipline, the structure, like those players were brought in and brought up a certain
way.
And all of that stuff was still in place.
but now all of a sudden, because Big Bill was out of the building and Wade was in and bringing
sort of a more positive outlook to everything, they had the best of both worlds.
They felt free.
They were able to kind of go out there and play loose while still maintaining all of the
structure and discipline that they'd had for all of those years under Parcells.
And so I think a similar sort of thing exists in Minnesota right now.
That's why I have them making the playoffs because, you know, I think Kevin O'Connell and Quasi Adopamenseo came in there
in January and February and said this isn't broken.
Like we've got a great locker room.
Oh yeah.
We've got talented guys.
They've got ascending young guys too.
Guys like Justin Jefferson and Christian Darrasaw,
who they believe are, you know, I mean,
Jefferson's already a star.
They think Dara saw could wind up being like an all pro type of left tackle.
So you put all of that together.
And I'm with you on this one, Colin.
I think there's no question that like if you take the structure and discipline
that's been in place there forever,
the core of players that came up under the,
that. And now sort of this ability to play free and live in a more positive environment,
I think all of that comes together where they've got a nice window in 2022 to really get off
to a nice start in the first year under O'Connell. Monday morning quarterback Albert Breer,
the Buckeye, feeling good. Some very dangerous games ahead. Don't get ahead of yourself here.
Defense looks really good, Colin. I think the defense might be fixed.
Come on. Jim Knowles coming over from Oklahoma State. No joke.
Okay. I don't want you weeping here in a couple Saturdays when things go sideways, Albert.
Albert Breer.
I think it'll be a while longer before that happens, but we'll see.
Yeah, January, you guys are used to a couple else.
Boom.
Oh, that hurt.
That was really a cheap shot.
All right, Albert, we'll see you soon.
I like, I said, I said, Georgia Bama is in my one tier,
Clemson, Ohio State Tier 2.
And then I got a tier of about eight teams that got some sizzles, some coaching,
but they're just not, they're in.
rebuilds. They're just Miami, A&M, USC. They're just not quite there.
I notice no Florida gators in that third tier. Did they just miss the cut?
No, I mean, I watched them last year. I didn't have Utah on that cut. You got to win that game.
You return. I mean, you can't have a senior quarterback and make mistakes like Utah.
I watched that. I'm like, come on. You can't make those. You can't make those mistakes.
Maybe Florida should be in there.

I'm down to talk about crack all day, but just so you all know.
I mean, at this point, Mark, this is the second episode where we've discussed crack.
So I'm starting to see that there's a through line.
We also have AIDS on the table right now.
Thank you for finishing that sentence.
Yes.
I don't think there's a more important year for black people.
Really?
Yeah.
For me, it's one of the most important years for black people in American history.

Sometimes when we're in the pursuit of the thing, we get so wrapped up in the chase that we don't realize that we,
are in possession of the thing, and we're still chasing it, and we don't know when we've done enough.
Because people scoreboard watch. Life becomes about wins and losses.
Steve Burns, Dustin Ross, because you find it important to be a good person while you hear on earth,
or are you a good person because you're afraid?
Because that's two different intentions, bro.
Absolutely.
And that's two different levels of trust.

All right, J-Mac with the news.
No, no, no, no.
Turn on the news.
This is the herd line news.
Right, Colin, first up, obviously,
New York Jets time.
Zach Wilson had successful surgery last month
following the preseason knee injury.
He went through a workout on Monday.
There's still a chance.
Wilson may be able to play in week one,
according to the Jets head coach,
final decision apparently will come on Wednesday.
The injuries.
So random. It doesn't look like he plans that hard.
Yeah, I don't know.
Mark Tent just said, air on the side of caution.
Where are you, Colin?
I don't know.
If he's 90% I start him.
Really?
No, Mikey Beckton?
I'm not saying, I'm not saying 60%.
But, I mean, you know, everybody's a little gimpy in this league.
I just, I don't know.
Week 1, 23 years old?
I don't know.
When you're young, you heal quick.
I would literally wait.
I'd just wait Wednesday, Thursday, practice.
If he's ready to go, he's ready to go.
That'd be a good curveball, because the line did move a point in a half when Zach Wilson was ruled out and Flacco in.
By the way, flacko with a bad left tackle is a loss.
Zach Wilson with a bad left tackle, he can make plays.
You know, I call him Cement Shoes Flacco because he's immobile in the pocket.
He is.
So, I mean, if you have a quarterback that's immobile and you have a bad left tackle on Sundays,
you're going to lose your games.
So if Flacco starts against the Ravens Pass rush, you're losing the football game.
So Zach Wilson, to me, gives you shot.
Okay.
I like the take, Colin.
I'm with you.
All right, next up, Cliff Kingsbury and Patrick Mahomes are going to face each other for the first time in the NFL on Sunday.
They were together at Texas Tech for three seasons.
Still kept in touch.
Kingsbury talked about what it was like going up against his former QB.
Yeah, it would be a little surreal going against him, but it would be fun.
be fun for Texas Tech people as well.
Just really proud of the person, you know, more than anything,
just watching how he's growing up, the leadership qualities he shows on and off the field.
I mean, anytime you watch him in any of those arenas,
just how socially responsible is, how he leads, how he treats people,
the stuff he does in the community with charities.
And, you know, he runs the gamut of what you want a sports star to be like and carry himself.
And so that's been really special to watch.
that development. I'll say that. The NFL's
incredibly lucky. Because
sometimes your star athletes in a sport
Arnold is the kind of guys you'd want to be on the
marquee. Herbert,
Burrough, Lamar,
Mahomes, Josh Allen,
NFL's really lucky. Like good
kids, all of them are small town kids,
good families, work their tail
off.
Mahomes is about as good as you can do.
I mean, he really is about as good
a face of a league. He's
playful but serious.
Like he's likable, but a grown-up.
He gives you both of those things.
We're the toxic.
We're going to see this game
in the Blazine 5 on Friday.
By the way, this line was a week ago.
It was KC. by 3.
Andy Reid, a mismatch against Kingsbury.
September.
Someone released, one of these gambling syndicates
released it this morning at minus 4.5.
It's up to minus 6 now.
Chief's favorite on the road against Arizona.
Yeah.
I loved Kansas City with the opening line.
but Blazing 5 is Friday.
So I don't get the best line.
I know. That stinks, doesn't it?
Kind of.
Yeah.
Be nice if I could get the best line.
Now, I've already bet the Vikings.
Packers game.
I've got a much better line that's out now.
It's called Closing Line Value.
Matters a lot in gambling.
Let's get to the final story.
Mack Jones entering a different Patriots
this off season without Josh McDaniels.
And with no official offensive coordinator,
still has plenty of supporters around the league,
including Troy Aikman,
who sees a little bit of Tom Brayniel.
in Mac Jones' game?
Here's what Troy Aikman said.
I feel like Mac Jones, I really do.
I think he possesses everything you need to win in the NFL.
He's a lot like Tom Brady that way,
which has not been a surprise as to why he ended up in New England.
Colin, do we need to slow down there, Troy, just a little bit?
I think...
Mac Jones and Tom Brady in the same sentence?
Well, I think what's happened, the position is so much more talented
than it was 20 years ago, that I think Mack Jones is old school and certainly like Jared
Goff, capable of winning a ton of games. But he's not in this day and age with Burrow and Mahomes
and Alan and Lamar and Herbert. He's not going to elevate average pieces. He can't make plays
off script. He's very, I said it, he's a right-handed Tua. And you can win a bunch of games that way.
But everything better be right. You better have protection. You better have weapons. And I don't, I think,
I think Mac will have protection, but no weapons.
I think Tua's got weapons and may struggle with protection,
and so both of them feel like 9 and 8, 10, and 7 at best.
I like what you did.
You mentioned Jared Goff and Tua in the same instance as Matt Jones.
You didn't mention Tom Brady.
I mean, again, can Mac Jones win a playoff game before he's in the same sentence as Tom Brady?
He can win one.
But, I mean, the point is the AFC now, I've never seen anything like it.
There were so many bad teams in the AFC for about 15 years.
that they all had really good high picks, and so many of them hit on their quarterback.
Sincy, the Chargers, the Bills, the Chiefs, the Ravens, they all hit.
You know, it's about a 50-50 gamble, first-round quarterbacks.
They not only hit, they hit home runs.
So the AFC now, I mean, Derek Carr's a pro-bowler.
In the AFC, some would argue he's the fourth most talented quarterback in his division.
So that's the reality of it.
Matt Ryan with the Colts, I would take a lot of it.
Matt Ryan this season over Mac Jones in a heartbeat.
Matt Ryan's a pro.
Today, yes. Today.
So Mac Jones isn't even a top 10 quarterback at the conference, right?
I mean, the AFC stat loaded.
It's ridiculous.
Yeah.
Jay Mack with the news.
Well, that's the news.
And thanks for stopping by.

It's the enhanced games.
Some call it grotesque.
Others say it's unleashing human potential.
Either way, the podcast's Superhuman documented it all, embedded in the game.

Do you remember when Diana Ross
double-tap Little Kim's boobs at the VMAs?
Or when Kanye said that George Bush didn't like black people.
I know what you're thinking.
What the hell does George Bush got to do with Little Kim?
Well, you're going to be.
You can find out on the Look Back at it podcast.
I'm Sam Jett.
And I'm Alex English.
Each episode, we pick it here, unpack what went down, and try to make sense of how we survived it.
Including a recent episode with Mark Lamont Hill waxing all about crack in the 80s.
To be clear, 84 is big to me, not just because of crack.
I'm down to talk about crack on day, but yeah, yeah, literally.
But just so y'all know.
I mean, at this point, Mark, this is the second episode where we've discussed crack.
So I'm starting to see that there's a through line.
We also have AIDS on the table right now.
Thank you finishing that sentence.
I don't think there's a more important year for black people.
Really?
Yeah.
For me, it's one of the most important years for black people in American history.

Tripp Fontaine, Ryan Clark.
Sometimes when we're in the pursuit of the thing,
we get so wrapped up in the chase
that we don't realize that we are in possession of the thing.
And we're still chasing it.
And we don't know when we've done enough.
Because people scoreboard watch.
Life becomes about wins and losses.
Steve Burns, Dustin Ross.
Because you find it important to be a good person

com tankless made symbol dot com we're going to play game called start bench and cut so we're
to take quarterbacks, J-Mack, and of these three quarterbacks for their respective games,
start means he'll have the best week.
Bench means you get bench, but you have the second best week.
Cut, you don't play well.
Start, bench, cut.
Here we go.
All right, let's get started with three of the best quarterbacks in the AFC.
Colin Patrick Mahomes, who's facing the depleted Cardinals, Justin Herbert against the
Radas, and Josh Allen on Thursday against him.
the Rams and Jalen Ramsey.
Okay. So I think Herbert, who has had four great games against the Raiders, is my start.
He's going to be great. Also, the Raiders were the worst red zone defense.
So the other thing is he'll get really good protection.
Rishon Slater was tremendous at left tackle.
Lindley, the center.
Good protection, good weapons.
I think Justin's going to eat up the Raiders.
Bench, Josh Allen Rams.
Listen, they got so many weapons.
I don't love their offensive line.
So I do think he'll be under some level of duress.
And the Rams are 5 and 0 and season opener under McVeigh.
Believe it or not, I think Mahomes could struggle a little.
First of all, he struggled last year out of the gate.
Kyler Murray, when healthy and fresh, has been a great September quarterback.
Also remember, J.J. Watt is healthy.
He wasn't at the end of last year.
So you're going to have the best possible pass rush for
Arizona in that division.
And Mahomes did not end the year playing confident football all the time.
So I think that it'll, don't go crazy.
This is not a knock on Mahomes.
But I think the pass rush in Arizona on the road opener could be interesting.
Okay.
All right.
A slight disagreement.
Let's get to the next one.
Start bench cut.
Tom Brady against the Cowboys on Sunday night football.
Russell Wilson against the Seahawks.
And then your guy, Aaron Rogers, against the Vikings.
All right. I think Russell Wilson's going to have the best Sunday. So he's our starter.
First of all, Seattle had the worst past defense in the league, and they don't have an elite edge
rusher. And also, Russell's been a great September quarterback. And I will say this.
Kyler and Russell are smaller quarterbacks that run around. There is an argument many people
believe they get hit enough, they get chipped enough. By December, it's not the same quarterback.
Russell early and healthy with these weapons is going to eat up Seattle.
A bench, second best quarterback is Brady at Dallas.
I do worry about guard, center guard for them.
Plus, Brady hasn't worked with Russell Gage much.
Chris Godwin and Evans, Miss Camp.
I don't love, outside of Micah Parsons, I don't really love this defense.
Randy Gregory's gone.
They didn't land Vaughn Miller.
I don't think they create a ton of pass rush.
I think Brady will be fine.
Aaron Rogers is going to struggle.
First of all, in his career in 14 games.
He's got seven losses in Minnesota on the road.
And this is the most talented Minnesota defense in a while.
Remember, Minnesota is the only team in the league that had five players with at least five sacks last year.
And he does not have a number one receiver.
And Alan Lazard, according to your report, may not play Sunday.
So I think it's a pretty bumpy opening for Aaron on the road in Minneapolis.
It's fair.
Let's get to the third one, Colin.
Start Bench Cut.
Lamar Jackson against my Jets.
We're starting rookie Sauce Gardner at corner.
one. Jalen Hertz on the road against the Lions and then
Dak Prescott against Tampa Bay.
I think Jalen hurts against the Lions are going to play well.
First of all, they ended the year, 7 to 10 wins.
Nick Seriani, players really buy into him.
He galvanized them. They've improved in the offseason.
Also, the Lions on the offensive side of the ball are pretty good.
They're not on the defensive side. So I think, as the kids say,
Jaylon's going to eat. I think Lamar Jackson at the Jets will be
fine. I don't think they're going to ask him to do a ton because the Jets run defense is okay.
So I think Lamar will be fine, but he's not going to be asked to carry this offense much.
And I think Dak is going to struggle. This is the worst offensive line Dak Prescott has had.
C.D. Lambs, excellent. Dalton Schultz, good tight end. But I think their offense will be sped up
because I think the strength of the Buccaneers is their defensive front, the weakness of the
Cowboys, their offensive front.
So I think Dak is going to have a pretty pedestrian
Sunday. Universal agreement there.
Next up, Derek Carr
in Start Bench Cut against the Chargers,
who it looks like will be without
J.C. Jackson, their great quarterback that they signed.
Matt Stafford against the Bills, who
will not have Tardavius White, arguably
best quarterback in the league. And then Kyler Murray
against Kansas City and whatever they've got
in the secondary. I think Kyler Murray's
going to play well. They're at home. He's
two and O in openers. They're healthy.
He's got a lot of interesting weapons.
And I don't love Kansas City's defense.
Listen, when you pay Travis Kelsey a lot and Joe Tuny a lot and Mahomes a lot, there's going to be weaknesses.
Also, they lost, if you recall, they lost Honey Badger, probably their most instinctive defensive player.
So I think Kyler's going to perform well.
They don't have DeAndre Hopkins for a while, but Rondell Moore, Zacherts, they're fine.
So is he start or bench?
He's going to be my starter.
I do think Matt Stafford against the bills is going to be fine, but Van Jefferson's out.
is OBJ. So it's going to be a lot of Cooper Cup. It's going to be a lot of Alan Robinson.
But remember, Andrew Whitworth has gone, and that's a good pass rush by Buffalo. So I think
that'll get that, I think Matt Stafford will throw a pick. He'll be under some duress.
And I think Derek Carr at the Chargers. Again, I think he'll be fine. But the right side,
middle right of that Raiders O line is a mess. And we got Callio Mac and a bosa on the edge.
And so I think Derek Carr is going to be fine, but he's going to be under duress for that game.
The Raiders O' line outside of Colton Miller left side is a bottom 10-0 line.
So you're cutting Derek Carr for this week?
Yes.
Yeah, okay.
Next up, Matt Ryan against the Texans, Kirk Cousins and the Packers, Baker Mayfield or the Browns to wrap up, start bench cut.
Matt Ryan, Texans is my starter.
They're the biggest favorite of the week.
Texans had a total rebuild.
and they had the second worst defense in the league.
My bench is Kirk Cousins.
They have a new coach, but I think their weapons are substantial.
But again, Green Bay's defense, this is the best Green Bay defense, probably in a decade.
So I think Kurt will be fine.
You're not going to get a lot of cheap stuff over the top.
You're going to have to earn every yard against this Green Bay defense.
And this is not a shot at Baker Mayfield, but since he entered the league,
he does have 56 picks.
And Miles Garrett, my contention is.
that Miles Garrett for Cleveland, everybody's talking about Baker's payday.
Miles Garrett, by the end of this year, will surpass Aaron Donald as the best defensive player in the league.
It's not, it's Miles Garrett growing.
Aaron Donald comes down a tag.
I mean, how long can Aaron Donald be in his prime as an interior defensive lineman?
So that's my takeaway.
Start bench cut.
I like that.
I didn't know you gave a lot of fantasy analysis on the show.
Oh, you get everything here.
Full service, huh?
You get everything.
All right.
First Things First has a new time slot.
Nick, Chris, and Kevin are now right after our show.
This point forward.
Very excited after that.
Enjoy on Speak.
See you tomorrow.
