Starting point is 00:00:00 This is an I-Heart podcast. Guaranteed Human. Another podcast from some SNL, late-night comedy guy, not quite. Unhumor me with Robert Smygel and friends. Me and hilarious guests from Bob Odenkirk to David Letterman help make you funnier. This week, my guest, SNL's Mikey Day and head writer Streeter Seidel, help an a cappella band with their between songs banter.
Starting point is 00:00:23 Where does your group perform? We do some retirement homes. Those people are starving for banter. Listen to humor me with Robert Smigel and friends on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Imagine an Olympics where doping is not only legal, but encouraged. It's the enhanced games. Some call it grotesque. Others say it's unleashing human potential. Either way, the podcast's superhuman documented it all, embedded in the games and with the athletes for a full year.
Starting point is 00:00:52 Within probably 10 days, I'd put on 10 pounds. I was having trouble stopping the muscle growth. Listen to Superhuman on the IHard Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Hey, what's good, y'all? You're listening to Learn the Hard Way with your favorite therapist and host Kear Games. This space is about black men's experiences, having honest conversations that it's really not safe to have anywhere, but you're having them with a licensed professional who knows what he's doing. How many men carry a suit or armor it? It signals to the world that you're not to be played with. And just because you have the capability that does not mean that you need to.
Starting point is 00:01:29 Listen and learn the hard way on the AHA radio app, Apple Podcast, or wherever you get your podcast. Hey, this is Robert from the Stuff to Blow Your Mind podcast. Joe and I are both lifelong Star Wars fan, so we're celebrating May the 4th with a brand new week of fun, thought-provoking Star Wars-related episodes. Join us as we tackle science and culture topics from a galaxy far, far away, such as the biology of Tontons and Wampas on the ice planet, or the practicality and corporate business sense of the Sith rule of two. Listen to stuff to blow your mind on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcast.
Starting point is 00:02:06 Thanks for listening to The Heard podcast. Be sure to catch us live every weekday from 12 to 3 Eastern, 9 to noon Pacific on Fox Sports Radio and FS1. Find your local station for the herd at Fox Sports Radio.com or stream us live every day on the iHeartRadio app by searching Herd. You're listening to Fox Sports Radio. You know, it is interesting. When you leave people, they have power and they have leverage and they're left of their own choices. Sometimes they make good ones. Sometimes they don't.
Starting point is 00:02:38 You know, LeBron A.D. looked good initially in the bubble, but now A.D. is not a dependable player. LeBron wanted Westbrook. That has not worked out well. KD. left continuity with the Warriors to go out to Brooklyn with Kyrie, and now it's not good. It is dysfunctional with a million question marks. So I've said this before with Joy is that be very careful about wanting power. I started a company about a year ago. I don't want too much power.
Starting point is 00:03:07 I'll just do my content and talk about sports. Like, be very careful because then you're going to be responsible for multiple things in an organization or a company, and you're probably not an expert at them. Let people do what they do, hire well, vet properly, and then let people be good at what they're good at. And so, you know, you always get in trouble with a restaurant when the guy who's got the money thinks he's the chef and should build the menu. Let the chef do the chef stuff and the business guy do the business guy stuff and business person stuff. And with that Mark Medina, NBA writer, NBA.com. You know, listen, this is, KD wanted to, he didn't want a heavy-handed coach and he wanted kind of a teammate that he really connected with.
Starting point is 00:03:50 and in the end, the construct of this team is weird, and it's three years in, it's not really working. I guess my question is this. I would not get rid of KD. You're stuck with Simmons. Is there a market for Kyrie? If Kevin Durant went to the owner and said, listen, I can't have Simmons and Kyrie.
Starting point is 00:04:10 You've got to give me one dependable 70-game guy. Is there a market for Kyrie? Yeah, Colin, it's a good question. I guess there's always going to be a market for a talent, an NBA player, but I think in Kyrie's situation, the goalposts have got to move because when you look at his track record, yes, he won a championship in Cleveland with LeBron James. He's an all-star caliber player. I can make the argument. He should have been on top 75, but his leadership skills leave a lot to be desired. And a lot of times those issues that affect the locker room
Starting point is 00:04:41 come at the cost of them winning. And his talent can't overcome that. So if I'm the Nets, not only do I think that they shouldn't sign Kyrie Irving to an extension. I think that this needs to be the last game that Kyrie's in a Nets uniform. Even if it's at the point of, hey, accepting some role players and draft picks, the reality is he didn't take ownership as far as the availability part with him being a part-time player this year. And even when he was on the floor, yes, he was really good, but his leadership skills were lacking.
Starting point is 00:05:15 and because of his track record in Cleveland, in Boston, and in Brooklyn, I don't see that changing anytime soon. You and I completely agree. I would trade them for picks and parts and just sometimes addition by subtraction. So a team you know well is the Warriors. You cover them for the San Jose Mercury News years ago. You know them very well. So here's what they do.
Starting point is 00:05:36 They draft and develop. They did it with Steph. They did it with Clay. Then it would Draymon. And now they've done it with Jordan Poole. Jonathan Comingas probably three years down the road of being like, like, like a great player, but I think he's athletically twitchy, could be it. But let's talk Jordan Poole. It's very interesting. So he's like, he's not a, he's not a catch and shoot guy like
Starting point is 00:05:56 Clay. He'll never quite be the ball handler of Steph, but he can do a lot of things here. And they're like leaning on him, Mark, in big spots in this series. And my takeaway is, are they going to keep going forward? Jordan Poole, Clay, Steph, Drayman. I mean, I mean, you know it well. Those three guys are tight. What do you make of his emergence? Could somebody get pushed out? What do you make of it? Yeah, I think the Warriors are going to be keeping Jordan Poole long term.
Starting point is 00:06:28 I don't think that that's a thought or consideration. He's going to be eligible for an extension, they'll secure him because he's shown a lot of growth. You know, the Warriors do like Andrew Wiggins for the role that he's fit in because he doesn't have to be the number one guy like he wasn't. Minnesota, which led to inconsistent results. But if you're looking at it from a cap perspective, there's only so many guys that they can sign some max deals. So if I had a guess, that would mean that Wiggins would be on his way out.
Starting point is 00:06:58 But as far as what his role is with the Warriors, they're content with it. The thing that's fascinating with Jordan Poole is that, look, they were intrigued with him as a number 28th pick. They liked his upside. But he went through a pretty big journey here. I mean, last year, he was in the G-League. floating in and out of that team. And, you know, at that point, it was about how did we develop him into a complete player?
Starting point is 00:07:22 They liked his confidence, his work ethic, his offensive potential, but he was inconsistent on defense and what he brought on the offensive end. It was very erratic at times. And so I think what you've seen in this playoffs, I'm not overstating this. You see flashes of step courage in terms of the ability to make his own shot, his ball handling, his charisma. And the Warriors are saying the same thing. Look, Steph Curry is his own guy, but the fact that they've been comfortable with bringing
Starting point is 00:07:50 stuff off the bench and having Jordan Poole starting, it's not just a product of the Warriors are trying to be super conservative with Steph Curry's workload. It's also a vote of confidence that Jordan Poole would excel in that role. And then Steph Curry specifically, when I asked him that question, he was on board with that role, a lot of it because of how reliable Jordan Poole is. That being said, Colin, I suspect that they'll slide Steph Curry back in the starting lineup for game five. But as far as those closing lineups, you bet it that Jordan Poole will be part of it. Yeah, he is the most improved player.
Starting point is 00:08:24 And to me, he's the most improved player in the year. Did you vote him in MIP? Did you vote him most improved? I did vote him most improved. Look, John Moran is a really good player, but I already saw him as a star, a caliber player. He ranked fourth on my MVP ballot. So I just looked at Most Improved different.
Starting point is 00:08:41 and Jordan Pula, I think, certainly check those boxes, considering the journey that he's been on in the last year. It's, I am a little surprised at Phoenix. I think Phoenix will go home and win tonight, but, you know, maybe I shouldn't be surprised. You know, Bridges isn't an elite score. DeAndre Aiton can give you 15 to 18. Chris Paul, at his age at 37's not getting you 28 a night.
Starting point is 00:09:07 Are they more reliant on Devin Booker than we, suspected. I mean, they're in a dog fight here without him. Are you surprised? I am surprised. I thought that, look, the Pelicans have been overachieving the second half of the season. They're this been this fun, feel-good story considering their start. But I thought that this would be a five-game series even with Devin Booker out. And when you look at their regular season track record, when they were without Devin Booker or Chris Paul or Deandre Aetan at varying parts of the season, the war, the sun's really tapped into, you know, strength and numbers. And they're depth and continuity.
Starting point is 00:09:42 And so I know that the playoffs are a different beast. So I thought that going into the playoffs, hey, if Devin Booker's back by the next series, it'll be fine. Obviously, if it's something long term, then that's something to worry about of how they match up against teams like Memphis and Golden State. So that being said,
Starting point is 00:09:58 I think that the Sons will get this out, but it's not guaranteeing. The Pelicans having the real deal, they've shown that they clearly aren't afraid of the Sons. And when you look at some of the exchanges that Brandon Ingram and some of the other guys the Pelkins have had against Chris Wall. They don't give a you know what against these guys.
Starting point is 00:10:15 They're ready to try to win this series and go from there. Yeah. By the way, it's interesting. About three or four years ago, 60 minutes did a story on Janus. And I was like, come on, give me a break. It's LeBron and KD's league. But I do feel like, I mean, Middleton's out and Janus is like, I'm good. And I think what he's become is LeBron.
Starting point is 00:10:38 And this is why to me, Janus should be the MVP. but LeBron wouldn't get it. In the NBA, you kind of become a victim of yourself. Like, people want a new story. They get LeBron fatigue. Janus can literally dominate on the end of the offensive end, the defensive end. He really can facilitate now. He's actually, he's always been able to handle the ball,
Starting point is 00:10:57 but he's a significantly better ball handler now and shooter than three years ago. And I watched them dismantle Chicago, a pretty pesky team without Chris Middleton. And I'm like, did they just sort of? coach through the regular season and just, you know, they're a champion. Is it possible they're significantly better than the rest of the league or can Boston beat them? I think Boston can beat them, but I think that, you know, Milwaukee has the same continuity. They're coming off the championship run and they have Janus on their team. And look, full transparency.
Starting point is 00:11:29 I voted Joel Embed and then Nicole Yolkich and then Janus in order as far as MVP votes. But when I was talking to one assistant coach, he was basically saying, hey, you can really flip any of those around. I chose Embed and Yokch just because of what they had to deal with with, you know, with MB, without Ben Simmons for half this season, James Harden, not really being James Harden, you know, Yokch dealing with an injury battered Nuggets team. But, you know, Janus is the real deal. And so much that when I talked to Buck's assistant coach, Darbin Ham earlier this season, he sees the parallels of him having a Tim Duncan type of career. Look, they have different games. Tim Duncan was, you know, the fundamental guy that was boring on footwork.
Starting point is 00:12:09 and bank shots. Janice is more athleticism. He attacks the rim. But it's more of like the mindset of who he is as a leader and a teammate. And he's just all about winning, building the right habits, you know, having this really good combination of having good chemistry with his teammates with joy, but also saying, you know, things by example where it's all about the work. And I could see him mirror what Tim Duncan went through with San Antonio in terms of the
Starting point is 00:12:37 impact that he had on that respective organization as well. was the number of championships he's won. So it's scary to think, but Janice is just getting started. I know. Yeah, and he takes great care of himself and he's got a body. I mean, it was last year. His knee, remember when he like hyper-extended his knee? It looked like a major injury and like he missed an afternoon.
Starting point is 00:12:55 It's like some guys are just built like LeBron went 15 years, crash into the floor, never got hurt. Mark Medina, great seeing again, my friend. Colin, always great seeing it. It would be well. All right. Yeah, we talked about this. I think you and I talked about this. Not all dynasties are exciting.
Starting point is 00:13:13 Like USC's with Reggie Bush and Matt Liner, that was crazy fun. Alabama is more business workman-like. The quarterback's not the star. The defense is and the coaching is. Duke's dynasty with Christian Leitner and Grant Hill and Bobby Hurley and egos. That was fun. UNLV's almost dynasty. Yukons wasn't with Jim Calhoun.
Starting point is 00:13:37 fundamentally wasn't as glamorous as other dynasties. San Antonio, and I said this two years ago, Milwaukee San Antonio, or maybe a year ago when they won, they look like the same team to me. They really do. In fact, you have Popovich and then a disciple of Popovich. And they're in these markets that don't get attention, totally committed, team-oriented guy that dominates his space. And then you just put on, I mean, Manu Janobli is one of the most underrated players
Starting point is 00:14:03 in league history. Chris Middleton's probably the most underrated two. And then you just sprinkle in guys like Drew Holliday, who's a total pro. He's the opposite of Kyrie Irving. There every night, vaccinated, great effort, both ends. You can see Milwaukee taking this league over and having really good teams like Boston and Philly, and they just can't, they don't have an answer for Yonis. And you're seeing more and more throughout the playoffs, and I think this will continue.
Starting point is 00:14:30 And this is my takeaway from what happened with the Nets, is that you forget this is a team game. You need depth. You need defense in the postseason. You need a little bit of a bench. You need to be able to win multiple ways. You need to be able to overcome if your star is out. And we're seeing teams that are well-coached, well-run, and deep being more consistent throughout the post-season.
Starting point is 00:14:50 And the Lakers championship with Shaq and Kobe was so glamorous. But it ran hot like the Healds. And like three, four years, you're like, what's over? The Spurs lasted a long time. Now, they didn't win three in a row. And I could be wrong here. Did they win back-to-backs, maybe once? But a dynasty to me is winning multiple champs.
Starting point is 00:15:10 You don't have to win a championship every year. No, no, no, no. New England didn't win a championship every year, but being in championship contention, being consistently good and then being great. The Heedles made the finals for four straight years, lost, one, one lost. That felt like a mini-down. One more championship, it's a dynasty, it's really close. Spurs felt like a dynasty to me, and they never won back-to-backs.
Starting point is 00:15:33 Like if Golden State wins another championship, with Steph. Oh, from the first to this one? Yeah. That's a dynasty. Kevin joined left. It's a dynasty. They won one without Kevin.
Starting point is 00:15:44 They win another one. That is a dynasty for however many years it's been. Yeah, it is. But Milwaukee, I can see not winning back-to-backs, but like winning three of the next six. I can absolutely. And that to me is a dynasty. I agree.
Starting point is 00:15:58 Be sure to catch live editions of the herd weekdays in noon Eastern, 9 a.m. Pacific on Fox Sports Radio, FS1, and the I-Hard Radio app. Imagine an Olympics where doping is not only legal, but encouraged. Starting point is 00:17:48 What the hell does George Bush got to do with Little Kim? Well, you can find out on the Look Back at it podcast. I'm Sam J. And I'm Alex English. Each episode, we pick it here, unpack what went down, and try to make sense of how we survived it. Including a recent episode with Mark Lamont, Hill, waxing all about crack in the 80s.
Starting point is 00:18:06 To be clear, 84 was big to me, not just because of crack. I'm down to talk about crack all day, but just so you all know. I mean, at this point, Mark, this is the second episode where we've discussed crack. So I'm starting to see that there's a through line. We also have AIDS on the table right now. Thank you finishing that sentence. Yes. I don't think there's a more important year for black people.
Starting point is 00:18:28 Really? Yeah. For me, it's one of the most important years for black people in American history. to look back at it on the iHeart radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Starting point is 00:19:48 Well, the draft is approaching. Baker Mayfield is still waiting to find a new team after the Browns brought into Sean Watson and the Panthers were one of the potential destinations for Baker. But according to reports, the team will not make any move for the quarterback until after the first round of the NFL draft. Carolina looks like they're happy to wait and see if they can come away with one of the top
Starting point is 00:20:11 quarterback prospects on Thursday before considering Mayfield. Now there's no guarantee that they are going to take a quarterback, but I believe they will. I believe Malik Willis is going to go to the Panthers. When you look at the fact that nobody is really itching to move up in this draft, the draft order as it currently stands, it looks like Carolina is in the best position to get. him. Now, Baker-Mayfield, obviously, is coming off a really rough year, six and eight. He was injured all year, and now has been replaced, essentially, in Cleveland. What's interesting to me about Carolina, and it's why I could see Baker going there if they
Starting point is 00:20:48 don't take Malik Willis is Matt Rule is in a, he's in a very serious situation. So the one thing that might cover Matt Rule is that he does have a seven-year, $62 million deal. Yeah, he's not going to get fired this year. He's entering, no, not this year, but he's entering into the third year of his seven-year contract. Under Matt Rule, under Matt Rule, the Panthers have gone five and 12 and five and 11. So they need to take a significant jump this year. They need to improve this year. And they've got some good players, but they've struggled at quarterback. But you can't win five games three years in a row. Right. You need to improve in some areas. There's lots of teams that don't have quarterbacks that have been able to put things together and win games. Not necessarily
Starting point is 00:21:32 going Super Bowl runs or playoff runs, but you need to be showing improvement. At the moment, they're not showing any improvement, which is why I think they should be aggressive at that position. Now, what Baker's going to come back and do in Carolina if he does end up there? I don't know, probably not much. He had an unbelievable roster and made to the playoffs in one playoff game. We saw what happened when they didn't have any kind of stability. But I still think that Malake-Wil's going to Carolina. It's just. I do too. It makes sense to me. Yes. And if he doesn't end up working out, you draft again.
Starting point is 00:22:05 I don't think you should be paralyzed by we took a guy in the first round, so therefore we can't draft another quarterback. By the way, Detroit took a corner from Ohio State, Jeff Okuda, not as good as you think. Why can't I draft another corner? Like if you need it and then just move Okuda to a number two corner, he's not in one, he's a two, and I get Soss Gardner, he's a one. Like the idea that, you know, we failed at left. Do you know how many linebackers have been drafted in my lifetime that, can't play, about half. And I understand it's a very high pick and it could be considered a mistake. But you make mistakes on other positions and high in the draft.
Starting point is 00:22:36 I don't know why everyone's paralyzed. We have to make this work. Nick Saban acknowledged that when they played Cincinnati, they schemed away from Soss Gardner. He was like, what was the point? Why would I go? Why would I go after him? And Nick Sabin's got first round receivers and they schemed away from Cincinnati's
Starting point is 00:22:53 corner. So it's like to me, go get him if you're Detroit, your defense a mess. Well, speaking of the draft, there's no clear-cut top quarterback prospect this year. But Tom Pelliser of NFL Network reported that multiple coaches have told him that Malik Willis is that guy, saying, quote, there's a lot of developmental talents who people like depends on who you talk to. Let's start out with Malik Willis from Liberty. He's the guy that multiple coaches told me is the only quarterback in this class with true NFL traits. He has a big arm, the running ability.
Starting point is 00:23:20 He played in a simplistic offense. They feel like this is a guy who's going to be able to learn. He's got the upside. He had a, got a 32 in his wonder lick. Yeah, and he's also, when you watch him, and I think this is something that nobody talks about, you would never think this in football. But when you watch Malik Willis talk, there is a warmth about him. Oh, yeah.
Starting point is 00:23:42 Very likable. Intangibles off the charts. I mean, obviously we've saw that all of the reports on his character, high character guy, and he's very poised. But I think his tangibles. No, yes, he's a big guy. He can run the ball. He's very athletic. Plus arm.
Starting point is 00:23:59 Yes. Big push the ball down the field arm. The Liberty thing is what's going to give people pause. Here's another thing. If Carolina doesn't draft him, watch the Steelers. Oh, I think if he falls the Steelers, Steelers fans want Malik Willis. By the way. If he falls, the Steelers, absolutely should take it.
Starting point is 00:24:16 What does Carolina need picks, right? So Pittsburgh's like, if you get down to five and Pittsburgh says, listen, we'll give you a first round pick. We move up. Pittsburgh doesn't need a... Pittsburgh's very interesting team. They don't need much. So they went heavy in the O-line last year. They got the running back,
Starting point is 00:24:34 the tied-in, and the receivers they like. Their front seven's fantastic. They're good enough at the secondary. They got a great culture. Defense is completely solid. The issue with them, really, is the future at quarterback. And so to me, if I'm Pittsburgh,
Starting point is 00:24:46 they don't have a lot of needs at all the key positions. And you're paying Mitchell-Tribisky nothing. Seven million a year. So who cares if you have them there is a back-up. If I'm Pittsburgh, if I run Pittsburgh, I move up, I give him a role. And by the way, put him in the game plan with Trubisky,
Starting point is 00:25:00 and you'll know by next year, like, it doesn't work or it does. And my guess is you're going to be like, yeah, it's... I would start him right away. What difference does it make? You were going to run it with Mitchell Trubisky this year, who nobody believes in. Nobody expects you to be a Super Bowl team. I would put Malik in right away and see what you have with him.
Starting point is 00:25:20 And then if he doesn't fit in, it doesn't work, you trade him or you keep him as a bad. back up and you draft again. I just, I don't think that there's any, I don't think there's anything wrong with drafting that position high multiple times. So last week, Jerry West expressed his unhappiness with the way he's being portrayed in HBO's winning time. He is not happy. Well, he said he was depressed. I mean, he's like, it's, it's been, it's hurt. It's been, it's been tough. Well, his attorney put out a statement requesting the show retract their false depiction within two weeks of the notice. Today, he spoke out again against the show publicly for
Starting point is 00:25:55 the first time, well, publicly for the first time. He said the series made us all Lakers look like cartoon characters. They belittled something good. If I have to, I will take this all the way to the Supreme Court. Whoa, that's a, that's the big court. That's where stuff gets decided. I'm not laughing. It's just that's, I don't want to hear anything about these new, uh, young players being too sensitive anymore. Let's toss that one out the window. I look, this isn't me in the show, right? So I'm obviously not speaking from a place of experience. Although I will say if at age 83 HBO feels the need to do a show centered around me and my accomplishments, I might take it as a, you know, some flattery, might take it as a compliment. And I haven't lived
Starting point is 00:26:44 my life perfectly. So there might be some things in the show that I don't feel great about people finding out or being depicted in a negative way. You're basically saying everything in this show is a lie. Everything in the show is a lie. It's a complete and utter. Listen, Jerry Russ is a very, very well-respected individual. So people don't often talk badly about people that they respect or let old stories out. I don't think, I'm sorry, I've watched all but one episode. I don't think, I think, I think episode one made Jerry look explosive. But I think in the rest of the series, he's almost been, in a circus of an environment, the steady hand.
Starting point is 00:27:28 He doesn't, yes, exactly. Like the beginning of the show was like, whoa, Jerry's breaking stuff. Right. Okay. But I don't think he's been viewed. I think everybody they took, it's almost like you said you were a cartoonist. They've taken everybody's like personality and kind of enhanced it. Like, I mean, literally.
Starting point is 00:27:44 It's Hollywood. They're wanting, it's supposed to be entertaining. I told you. They did a movie about Jesus. They embellished. I mean, it's, this is the way. This is how it goes. I think the Supreme Court feels like a little bit of a lot.
Starting point is 00:28:01 It's kind of a lot. I enjoy the show. I don't think badly or differently about any individual in the show because of the show. I think the show is interesting and well done. Again, it's not me. So I guess I'm clearly speaking from a place. No one's doing a show about me. But it feels like a lot.
Starting point is 00:28:18 Supreme Court's a lot. I feel like the Supreme Court has other stuff they should be paying attention to other than winning time. Yeah, I would say, the Supreme Court sees Jerry West against HBO's Adam McKay. That doesn't feel like something a judge would say. It does not feel like a good use of taxpayer money. Joy with the news. Well, that's the news. And thanks for stopping by.
Starting point is 00:28:40 The Herd Lie News. Is that a liberal or a conservative story? Who would have the advantage here? I'm not even sure. That's tricky. Either way, the podcast's Superhuman documented it all, embedded in the games and with the athletes for a full year.
Starting point is 00:29:40 Within probably 10 days, I'd put on 10 pounds. I was having trouble stopping the muscle growth. Listen to Superhuman on the I-Hard Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. A win is a win. A win is a win. I don't care what you're saying. Or when Kanye said that George Bush didn't like black people. I know what you're thinking. What the hell does George Bush got to do a little Kim? Well, you can find out on the Look Back at it podcast.
Starting point is 00:31:09 I'm Sam Jek. And I'm Alex English. Each episode, we pick a here, unpack what went down, and try to make sense of how we survived it. Including a recent episode with Mark Lamont Hill, waxing all about crack in the 80s. To be clear, 84 is big to me, not just because of crack. I'm down to talk about crack all day, but just so y'all know. I mean, at this point, this is the second episode where we've discussed crack. So I'm starting to see that there's a through line.
Starting point is 00:31:34 We also have AIDS on the table right now. Thank you finishing that sentence. I don't think there's a more important year for black people. Really? Yeah. For me, it's one of the most important years for black people in American history. Listen to look back at it on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcast. or wherever you get your podcasts.
Starting point is 00:31:55 Welcome to my new podcast, Learn the Hard Way with me, your host, and your favorite therapist, Keer Games. And in recognition of Mental Health Awareness Month, I'm bringing over a decade of my own experience in the mental health field and conversations with so many incredible guests.
Starting point is 00:32:09 I'm talking, Tripp Fontaine, Ryan Clark. Sometimes when we're in the pursuit of the thing, we get so wrapped up in the chase that we don't realize that we are in possession of the thing. And we're still chasing it. and we don't know when we've done enough. Because people scoreboard watch. Life becomes about wins and losses.
Starting point is 00:32:28 Steve Burns, Dustin Ross, because you find it important to be a good person while you hear on earth? Are you a good person because you're afraid? Because that's two different intentions, bro. Absolutely. And that's two different levels of trust. I want you to just really be a good person.
Starting point is 00:32:42 Join me, Kear Gaines, as we have real conversations about healing, growth, fatherhood, pressure, and purpose on my new podcast, learn the hard way. Open your free, iHeartRadio app search learn the hard way and listen now you know it is interesting um because certain players in the NBA um are very dramatic lebron uh Kevin Durant Kyrie you you know you tend to think oh boy these guys are divas but i was just looking at a like jason tatum
Starting point is 00:33:13 is averaging as much as Kevin Durant you get no drama he just shows up defends 29 a game 7 and a half assists. I think sometimes because certain players do get a lot of the discussion, we forget the quarterbacks in the NFL right now. Yeah, Kyrie Irving and Aaron Rogers are a lot of drama. The other 30 guys, they're just pros. I was saying, I mean, Jason Tatum is a great player. You don't get any drama. It just shows him pretty nice. He's coachable. I mean, I was thinking about the NBA stars. So I'll name the stars and I'll just go, drama, no drama. Jason Tatum, no drama. Durant, drama. Kyrie drama.
Starting point is 00:33:50 Janice, no drama. Demar Jorosin, no drama. Joel M. B. Not a ton of drama. James Harden, drama. Chris Paul, no drama. DeAndre Aiton, no drama. Brandon Ingram, no drama.
Starting point is 00:34:03 Steph Curry, no drama. Jordan Poole trending up, no drama. Yokic, weird drama but not real drama. Donovan Mitchell, no drama. John Morant, no drama. Anthony Edwards, no drama. Carl Anthony Towns, a fire hose of drama. He's a dramatic player, just his emotions.
Starting point is 00:34:24 But, I mean, they're not bad. They're just, he drives you crazy watching him. But, I mean, when you look at NFL quarterbacks, I've said, not everybody can be DAC or Brady, you know, take a team deal. It's not the way it works. Aaron Rogers, you're going to get some drama. Kyrie Irving or Kyler Murray, you're going to get some drama. It's the same thing in the NBA.
Starting point is 00:34:43 You even got some drama with Russell Wilson. A little bit, yeah. But, I mean, mostly you don't get drama. Big Ben was a lot of drama for years and years. But, you know, I mean, I, you know, we talk so much about the Brooklyn Nets imploding. But, you know, Boston has been good for years. Boston, Milwaukee, and Phoenix winning folks is good for the league. No div is in Phoenix.
Starting point is 00:35:04 No div is in Milwaukee. No div is in Boston. By the way, you know, we talk a lot about Kyrie Irving, but you brought in Chris Paul to Phoenix. What a great teammate. You brought in Drew Holiday and Milwaukee. What a great teammate. So, you know, a lot of times we think, oh, the NBA, it's coastal, it's this and that. Miami this year is really a story of bench, coaching, intensity.
Starting point is 00:35:28 And it's not about stars. It's just the stars get so much attention. But the NBA has been on a really good run. You can count the drama guys. I mean, if you took just, they just all happened to be playing in Brooklyn. But, I mean, if Brooklyn did not exist as a franchise, where's their drama in the league? There's really only one drama team left. There's Brooklyn.
Starting point is 00:35:53 Well, no, because Brooklyn's out now. I mean, the Sixers, like you've had some things with Joelle and Beade and Ben Simmons and James Hardin. Is that drama or is that like... It's noisy. I don't know if I would call it drama. Yeah, it's noisy. It's noisy. But, I mean, totally functional, I think.
Starting point is 00:36:10 But, I mean, just take Brooklyn out. And you'd be like, no, draw them in the NBA. Guys show up, get their money, do their work. I think Boston's a great story. I think they're a great story. And I think if you're looking around the rest of the playoffs, and I think that we're going to see the winners of the conferences and who's in the finals and who ends up winning the championship
Starting point is 00:36:30 is going to be a complete team. Yeah. And I also think sometimes in the NBA, you not only become a sports star, you become an apparel star, and you become a cultural icon. Of course. And football is not really like that. at. Like Aaron Rogers is not a cultural icon, and he's not an apparel icon. He wears I thoughts.
Starting point is 00:36:47 So like in basketball, we have to be fair. You're asking 30-year-old guys, they're like layers of cultural iconic stuff, apparel icons. It's a lot. It's a lot. And that's why sometimes you get a ego. I got low ego. A little ego is fun. Steve Ful, financial advisors, STI-FEL, success. STIFEL, check him out. Midwest Best Financial Service. Another podcast from some SNL, late night comedy guy, not quite. Unhumor me with Robert Smygel and friends.
