Starting point is 00:00:00 This is an I-Heart podcast. Guaranteed Human. Another podcast from some SNL, late-night comedy guy, not quite. Unhumor me with Robert Smygel and friends. Me and hilarious guests from Bob Odenkirk to David Letterman help make you funnier. This week, my guest, SNL's Mikey Day and head writer, Streeter Seidel, help an a cappella band with their between songs banter.
Starting point is 00:00:23 Where does your group perform? We do some retirement homes. Those people are starving for banter. Listen to humor me with Robert Smigel and friends on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Imagine an Olympics where doping is not only legal, but encouraged. It's the enhanced games. Some call it grotesque.
Starting point is 00:00:42 Others say it's unleashing human potential. Either way, the podcast's Superhuman documented it all, embedded in the games and with the athletes for a full year. Within probably 10 days, I'd put on 10 pounds. I was having trouble stopping the muscle growth. Listen to Superhuman on the IHard Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. A win is a win. A win is a win.
Starting point is 00:01:07 I don't care which I'm saying. Yep, that's me, Cliver Taylor the 4th. You might have seen the skits, my basketball and college football journey, or my career in sports media. Well, now I'm bringing all of that excitement to my brand new podcast, The Clifers Show. This is a place for raw, unfilled conversations with athletes, creators, and voices that not only deserve to be heard, but celebrated. So let's get to it. Starting point is 00:01:32 Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcast. And for more behind the scenes, follow at Clifford and at TikTok's podcast network on TikTok. On the Look Back at it podcast. From 1979, that was a big moment for me. 84's big to me. I'm Sam J. And I'm Alex English.
Starting point is 00:01:47 Each episode, we pick a year, unpack what went down, and try to make sense of how we survived it. With our friends, fellow comedians, and favorite authors. Like Mark Lamont Hill on the 80s. 84 was a wild year. I don't think there's a more important year for black people. Listen to look back at it on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts.
Starting point is 00:02:10 Thanks for listening to The Heard podcast. Be sure to catch us live every weekday from 12 to 3 Eastern, 9 to noon Pacific on Fox Sports Radio and FS1. Starting point is 00:02:57 triumdrive.com. Bernard Pollard's out there taking some big swings on social media. He's earned the right Super Bowl champ, played for a decade in the NFL, the former Ravens Safety. I said today, I said, well, first of all, you've certainly earned it.
Starting point is 00:03:14 You're a hell of a player. And my second takeaway is, and you know, is that there is a feeling among players that it's not something that usually goes public, but I've heard players say, you know, if I'm a wide receiver, I kind of want to go with a star quarterback.
Starting point is 00:03:32 OBJ was unhappy with Baker. OBJ seems way happier with Matt Stafford. So, I mean, I get it. So, Bernard, were you surprised that Lamar reacted to you? I mean, no. At the end of the day, as I tell people all the time, like at some point in time, players have enough. They have taken enough.
Starting point is 00:03:56 And I completely understand. I think he misunderstood where I said, yo, this dude should be the top paid quarterback for the Baltimore Ravens. Now, I think the Ravens are the only place that should pay him top dollars. So whatever Watson got, Lamar should get that plus 15 to 20 more,
Starting point is 00:04:18 guaranteed just because of what he's done for the organization. Having said that, I do believe there are things that he needs fix in his game in order to take that team to the promised land. Now, when Hollywood Brown left, there's different reports, Bernard. Some of them are, he wanted to go to Kyler, who's a better thrower to the football, right? And other people said, well, it was the Baltimore offense. But I would argue the Baltimore offense is built because of what Lamar does well and not so
Starting point is 00:04:47 well. So give me some insight. Your belief, you know the Ravens well in their kind of ecosystem. Why did Hollywood Brown leave? So as far as with Hollywood Brown, I don't know or understand, you know, why he wanted to get out. Maybe he knew they weren't going to pay him, knowing him and Lamar was coming up to be paid. So maybe he knew that wasn't happening. So he wasn't happy with that.
Starting point is 00:05:12 So he wanted to get out of town. I think when you talk about this offense, I hear so many people all the time talk about Greg Roman, Greg Roman, Greg Roman, Greg Roman is holding Lamar back. Yeah. I think if you get a new OC, I think he exposes what Lamar. can't do. And I tell people all the time, when you look at pure quarterbacks, when you look at what these quarterbacks in the game are doing, Lamar is special. He really is. He's a special talent. I think, you know, he's legs first and then his arms come second. You know, he's a guy that moves the defense with his legs. And that is true. Some people may not like that. I understand it,
Starting point is 00:05:47 but that is the truth. He defenses fear him because of his ability to run. When it comes to his ability to throw to football, I think he lacks in those areas. And when you look at Greg Roman, he's coming, as I said yesterday, and I stand by this because of the comments that he said, he has a pacifier in his mouth. He's not making any checks. He's not moving to O-line. He's not checking out of certain plays to put itself into a better situation offensively. He's going in, and what John Harbaugh, what Greg Roman, what Lamar Jackson is doing, and the office is doing understand my number eight is better than your 11. And 95% of the time, that is probably true. But backyard football is not sustainable in this national football league.
Starting point is 00:06:28 Do you believe players absolutely evolve? I mean, we saw Josh Allen from college to his third year in the NFL is like a different player. Do you think there's just because of, you know, somebody told me this years ago that it's almost biblical, that if you have a gift, like a great singing voice. You're going to sing in the shower. You're going to sing in the car. You have to let it out. Lamar is so fast. He is so unique that he's going to run. It's just in him. It's innate. It's his instinct on a third and seven if the first guy is not open. He's off and running. I don't blame him for it. It's just the way people operate. Do you think he could change that or we have to come to terms with his uniqueness is never going to allow him to be a patient pocket quarterback.
Starting point is 00:07:21 Well, I agree with what you're saying, Colin. I look at Lamar, and I think one of the big things, when you look at people in a black community, they're always talking about how you coming down on a black man and this and that. Let me let you know something. I think from the start of this thing, we as black players, and we see this talent growing up. We see that kid that was running around throwing a ball, and we was like, man, that quarterback back was shaking. He was doing all of this. And then he just threw the ball later or whatever. But, you know, he's a runner. We've seen that for so long growing up. And then now all of a sudden,
Starting point is 00:07:51 we see it now in the National Football League. And we're like, yo, like this dude is in the National Football League. We got to get behind him and go. I'm with all of that. I want him to succeed. I don't care that he's black. I want him to succeed. But like you said, I think the running thing is that's his natural instinct. And so when people say, well, we don't have a good offensive line. Well, his running ability, a good offensive tackle, a really good guard, they're going to be like, yo, bro, we're making his pocket for you to throw the ball in. And when he's sitting there running after he doesn't see his first read or that thing across the middle open, he wants to run. And so now that's holding penalties that your offensive line is going to get.
Starting point is 00:08:30 Now you put that the big boys, now they've got to run and block and everything else. And when Lamar puts himself in his position, he exposes himself to hits. And like I tell people all the time, When we look at this, we look at franchise quarterbacks. Lamar was an MVP. He was. He was phenomenal. He was fantastic, but there were still flaws in his game. There's something going on.
Starting point is 00:08:52 There's a reason why Baltimore has not paid him. I hope they'd come back and go, you know what? Let us prove them wrong. We're going to pay him top dollar. But there's a reason they have not paid him yet. Yeah, it's, see, and this is where I've argued I'd pay him. In the National Football League, in almost all sports, Are you a winning player?
Starting point is 00:09:13 So Jimmy Garoppolo is not nearly as dynamic as Lamar, but I'll fight this. Dude wins a lot of games. Kyle Shanahan's record without Garapolo is bad. And Kyle's excellent coach. To me, Lamar wins 75% of the games he starts and you're in the playoff hunt every year. Every year he's your quarterback. I'm paying him. Now, I don't want to pay him Mahomes money because I don't think he has all the throwing
Starting point is 00:09:39 mechanics and abilities. But I would pay him. Would you pay him 38 mil a year? Would you? If I'm Baltimore, and I stand on this, Baltimore owes him that money. He has taken them, he has done things for that organization. And I think this is the reason we see such a falloff from regular season to playoffs is because Lamar has done it all in 17 games.
Starting point is 00:10:05 He has put everything out there. He has ran the ball. He has passed the ball. He has led the team in Russian. He has been top two in rushing. He has led the team in passing. And even on some of the passes, he has had to make, he has had to do things in the running game or with his legs to open up the passing lanes. And I tell people all the time, that is good.
Starting point is 00:10:26 Like, he got 16, 70 hundred yards rushing his first year. That's cool. But all of them yards cost something. And people don't get that. And everybody go, well, he's only 23. He has time. He's only 24. He has time.
Starting point is 00:10:40 He's 25. Like we can't keep saying this man has time. He has got to take that mouthpiece out of his mouth. He has got to check. I think that's one of the biggest things for me when I watch a football game. I'm looking like, bro, like they're blitzing and you haven't even checked because they're saying he's better than the 11. But then at the end of the day, he's running right into that bliss because that's where he
Starting point is 00:11:01 eluded. And that right there is going to continue to hold this organization, this team back. And I just want him to get better at that. And, I mean, he took it personal. He threw insults, but I'm fine. And Danny, I'm a big boy. We can go back and forth. And for everybody that's riding behind the bullcrap that he's saying, it's cool.
Starting point is 00:11:19 I want him to be paid. I want him to get everything he's got. But I just want him to be a better quarterback to take that team to the promised land. But until he does that, it ain't happening. Yeah. Now, if I was Lamar's agent, whoever represents him now, I would argue, well, Peyton Manning struggled for years in the playoffs. Sometimes it takes more time.
Starting point is 00:11:36 The AFC's got so many good teams. I think about this all the time, Bernard. I try to personalize these stories. So in my business, the radio TV business, right? The talking head business, right, guys like me. Stephen A's style is different than mine. Skip styles different than mine. There's a bunch of different ways to make your company money
Starting point is 00:11:55 and to be semi-popular or popular. Not everybody can do my homes. But Lamar, what he does, he does it better than anybody, and it makes them win a bunch of games. And so I think to myself, not everybody in every industry can be Peyton Manning or can be Howard Stern or whoever you thinks a great talk show host. Are you productive? Do you win games? Do you make people better? Are you relevant? And he checks all those boxes. That's why, because I hear all these criticisms. I'm like,
Starting point is 00:12:25 you know what you don't want to be in the NFL? Watching the playoffs on TV. Jay Glazer once said this to me, Bernard, it's so true. He goes, NFL head coach, if you don't have a viable quarterback is the worst great job in the world. You are driving to the practice facility in the winter going, we're getting our teeth kicked in Sunday. So that's why I always feel like I would have to pay Lamar. I hope he gets paid. Listen, I just like the fact you gave me content today, Bernard. You're out there throwing haymakers. I'll be honest. I kind of liked it. Listen, always welcome on the show. Hope you're having a great summer. Congrats and a great career. And thank you Thank you for answering our call today.
Starting point is 00:13:09 I appreciate you. Thank you for having me, Colin. All right, Bernard Pollard. It's an interesting topic. This has been my thing with Lamar, is that, folks, he gives you a chance to win every game. Even the Kansas City games. I got pay him. I got pay him.
Starting point is 00:13:25 As good as all these quarterbacks in college this year, it's supposed to be a great college draft for quarterbacks, like six first rounders. You and I know three will be busts. one will be exceptional and two will be replaced within six years. That's a good draft. Remember Baker, Donald were both going to be. Josh Rosen was going to be. In the end, you kind of like, oh, Lamar was 31st. He's better than a lot of those guys.
Starting point is 00:13:53 So, you know, I never understand this. Like when Manny Ramirez played for the Red Sox and then he leaves and he comes back and fans will boo. And I always think to myself, time out. Mani Ramirez gave you 10 great summers in Boston, where they were playing sweet Caroline at the Green Monster. You just got back from the Cape. The Yankees are in town. He made your weekend.
Starting point is 00:14:18 Mani Ramirez made your summers better for 10 years. And most of us, we have, you know, 50 good summers in our lives before either we're too young to remember them or too old to get out of a chair. If you make my life better and you win games, I'm for. you. Lamar makes you viable. There are 10 teams this morning in the NFL. There are a steam and pile of
Starting point is 00:14:44 you know what. And you will never be that with Baltimore. You'll never be that with Lamar. You will be viable. You will be able to win games. I'm paying you. I say this all the time. You know, people get divorces. I got two amazing kids.
Starting point is 00:15:01 I can't hate anybody who I end a with if they provided me with some of the greatest gifts of my life, right? Be sure to catch live editions of the herd weekdays in noon Eastern 9 a.m. Pacific on Fox Sports Radio, FS1 and the IHeart Radio app. Imagine an Olympics where doping is not only legal but encouraged. One week, I'll take you behind the scenes of the biggest moments in sports and entertainment. And the next, we'll talk about life, mental health, purpose, and even music. The Clifford Show isn't just a podcast.
Starting point is 00:16:28 It's a space for honest conversations, stories that don't always get told, and for people who are chasing something big. So if you've ever supported me, or you're just chasing down a dream, this is right where you need to be. Listen to The Clifford show on the IHeart radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcast. And for more behind the scenes, follow at Clifford and at TikTok Podcast Network on TikTok. Do you remember when Diana Ross double-tap Little Kim's boobs at the VMAs? Or when Kanye said that George Bush didn't like black people.
Starting point is 00:16:58 I know what you're thinking. What the hell does George Bush got to do with Little Kim? Well, you can find out on The Look Back at it podcast. I'm Sam J. And I'm Alex English. Each episode, we pick it here, unpack what went down, and try to make sense of how we survived it. Including a recent episode with Mark Lamont Hill,
Starting point is 00:17:15 waxing all about crack in the 80s. To be clear, 84's big to me, not just because of crack. I'm down to talk about crack on day, but just so y'all know. I mean, at this point, Mark, this is the second episode where we've discussed crack. So I'm starting to see that there's a through line. We also have AIDS on the table right now. Thank you for finishing that sentence.
Starting point is 00:17:36 I don't think there's a more important year for black people. Really? Yeah. For me, it's one of the most important years for black people in American history. Listen to look back at it on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Welcome to my new podcast, Learn the Hard Way with me, your host, and your favorite therapist, Kear Games. And in recognition of Mental Health Awareness Month, I'm bringing over a decade of my own experience in the mental health field and conversations with so many incredible guests. I'm talking. Trip Fontaine, Ryan Clark. Sometimes when
Starting point is 00:18:08 we're in the pursuit of the thing, we get so wrapped up in the chase that we don't realize that we are in possession of the thing. And we're still chasing it. And we don't know when we've done enough. Because people scoreboard watch. Life becomes about wins and losses. Steve Burns, Dustin Ross, because you find it important to be a good person while you hear on earth. Are you a good person because you're afraid. Because that's two different intentions, bro. Absolutely. And that's two different levels of trust.
Starting point is 00:18:36 I want you to just really be a good person. Join me, Keer Gaines, as we have real conversations about healing, growth, fatherhood, pressure, and purpose on my new podcast, learn the hard way. Open your free, our heart radio app. Search, learn the hard way, and listen now.
Starting point is 00:18:52 Jay Mack with the news. No, no, no, no. Turn on the news. This is the herd line news. All right, let's start with that. Honestly, I can name eight teams off top of my head I know aren't going to make the playoffs. Sadly. If I can drive to the stadium and practice and no, got a chance Sunday, thank you.
Starting point is 00:19:09 Yeah. Thank you. Again, glass half full Colin is the best Colin, basically. You know, you're positive. I've got to get rebranded at this network. From now on, Mr. Optimism. You're not a hater. You're not.
Starting point is 00:19:21 All right, let's get to the first story. The Chief's offense. It's going to look differently this year, obviously without Tyree Kilcolon. But safety, Justin Reed thinks Patrick Mahomes can lead the. group and be as explosive as ever. Here's the sound. The Chief's offense is going to do what we always do. We're going to come out.
Starting point is 00:19:39 We're going to put up 100 points. We have the greatest football quarterback in the game. And when you have a quarterback and you have an offensive system, a coordinator that is able to just mix things up all the time, you're always going to put up points. We're going to combine that with great football, cross the board, complementary, offense, defense, special teams. We're going to go out and win games. We're in the toughest division in the national football.
Starting point is 00:20:00 football league. That's no secret. It's going to be fireworks every time anybody plays. And you're going to want to watch that. No, they're going to be fine. Now, Andy Reid, the great news for the Chiefs is Andy Reid's the best September coach in the league in the last 20 years. So we know Andy Reid teams will be fine in October November. We question now, out of the gate, how good are they going to be with all these pieces? Here's the advantage. Andy always wins September. So in the month, they could struggle, the first four to five weeks, because they got new pieces. That's Andy's specialty.
Starting point is 00:20:32 He unveils all his trick plays, all his new stuff. So I know they're going to be good post Thanksgiving, but Andy's history is they're always good early. So the Chiefs are going to be fine. The only issue, they're a playoff team. The only issue is do they win it or wildcard it? Because I do think Denver roster person to person is slightly better. But Colin, this Chief offense last year with Tyree Kill,
Starting point is 00:20:54 you needed to focus on him and shut him down. Do any of these guys scare you? Do you need to double team, Smith-Schuster, Mikul Hardman, or Mv, Mv, S? No, but you have to double Travis Kelsey. Right. And all the other receivers are more than capable. Okay.
Starting point is 00:21:09 A little slight disagreement there. All right, let's move on to the second story here. Baker Mayfield and Sam Darnold, they're battling for the Panthers' starting job in training camp in Carolina. Team also added Matt Corral in a draft. I like him a lot. GM Scott Fitterer thinks having another veteran in the room will help the rookie The one good thing about Matt, there is a transition from, you know, this college offense
Starting point is 00:21:32 that he was in into the NFL offense, especially McAdo offense where there's a lot of verbiage. And this will allow him the chance to really learn at his own pace, learn from a couple of pros in the room and Sam and Baker, you know, having PJ in that room as well. And when it's time for him to get out there and play, he can get out there and earn that job if he's ready. But it's going to be on him to learn and to play well when he gets. there. But right now our focus is on all of our quarterbacks up to speed so we can play good quality of football this year at that position.
Starting point is 00:22:05 So Colin, we've got Baker Mayfield, the mentor now in Carolina. You buying that? He will start eventually. So they're opening three games. Whoever wins a starting job versus Cleveland, it'll be Jacoby Brissette, at the New York Giants versus the Saints. Could see another three and no start out of Carolina. That's what's really interesting. Yes. So I do think it's,
Starting point is 00:22:26 going to be hard for Baker to walk in and just steal the job. I think Sam knows the book, knows the room, knows Matt Rule. And he's a bigger, stronger physical player if you look at him athletically. So the problem's going to be is what if they start 3-0? Because last year, pre-McAfee injury, they were actually pretty interesting. So then it's 3-0, where's Baker play? So my question is, if the GM really wants Baker and the owner wants Baker, and they just say, okay, we're going with Baker, then everybody's going to say, look at Baker, they're three and O. What if Sam is more ready to play week one? Sam has a real good chance to go in a winning streak.
Starting point is 00:23:07 And then you get into a place where is Baker getting frustrated? Is Baker, you know, Baker's got a personality? Is Baker unhappy? That's what I want to say. Because I think both of those guys could go three and O with a start. So, and I think both of them know that. If you look at their schedule, September's the easiest part of their schedule. Because the Giants could be better, but they have a brand new coach.
Starting point is 00:23:31 So you don't think the Giants will be their best week one. And then they face Arizona, week four, no DeAndre Hopkins, and Trey Lance, week five. So listen, Carolina's a spicy team this year. I think we're going to talk about them a lot. Whoever gets the start is going to win games. And Christian McCaffrey goes down last year, and their offense went to absolute garbage. They couldn't move the football. And like you said, 3 and 0 to total dumpster fire.
Starting point is 00:23:52 I like Carolina this year. Let's go to story three sticking in the NFL, Colin. Danny Dimes. Daniel Jones has dealt with plenty of turmoil in his first three years with the Giants. Been a turnover machine. Has not performed well on the field. However, Freddie Kitchens. Remember that guy?
Starting point is 00:24:07 I joke that he was Freddie bathrooms back in the day. He was on the Giants' offensive staff the last two seasons, believes Daniel Jones is in a better situation to prove what he can do in New York. I know the new management there has done a tremendous job. Brian's going to do a hell of a job. them. So I think they've got the best situation that Daniels had in quite some time to get the best out of him. And if the best that he can give them is what they want to see, then of course they're giving the contract. If not, they'll move on. So it's the simple as that.
Starting point is 00:24:38 Sequan Barkley, Kenny Gallaudet, can these guys help Danny Dimes become anything? The Jets do have. I think the Jets' last two drafts have been exceptional. And I do feel they have answered some questions. I feel like the Giants with Gettleman were just kind of collecting players. They weren't building a team. I think they're in a total rebuild. I could see the Jets by Thanksgiving feeling like we're a draft away from being really promising. I think the giants have so many questions, so many issues, and Sequan doesn't appear to be the same player. Good stuff. Jay Mack with the news. Well, that's the news. And thanks for stopping by. The Hurd Lie News. Tired of waiting

I'm down to talk about crack all day, but just so y'all know. I mean, at this point, this is the second episode where we've discussed crack. So I'm starting to see that there's a through line.
Starting point is 00:28:30 We also have AIDS on the table right now. Thank you finishing that sentence. Yes. I don't think there's a more important year for black people. Really? Yeah. Starting point is 00:29:22 Life becomes about wins and losses. Steve Burns, Dustin Ross, because you find it important to be a good person while you hear on earth? Open your free. iHeartRadio app search learn the hard way and listen now when it comes to investing in gold to safeguard your portfolio ever-changing stock market trust legacy precious metals column 86666674 heard
Starting point is 00:30:01 or visit legacy pm investments dot com there was a movie called the hateful eight today we're going to be the fateful eight is that we are eight weeks away from the start of the NFL season what are the eight quarterbacks that face the most pressure this year? The eight quarterbacks that face the most pressure. For instance, I'm not going to put Daniel Jones on the list. His pressure was last year. Mara, the family, the Giants owners, want him to be given a final year. It's kind of understood he's not the guy.
Starting point is 00:30:36 So I will tell you, I don't put him on the list. Here's people that I think there's decisions, there's pressure, there's intention, entity, there are big expectations. So here we go. Number eight. Russell Wilson. Now, first of all, they had 10 quarterbacks since Peyton Manning left, so he's viewed largely as a savior. So the pressure isn't that big. But it should be noted. He also has a rookie head coach. So again, we think he's ahead of the offense. Not major pressure, but he's making a lot of money. And the last two Super Bowl winning quarterbacks are Stafford and Brady that made a similar move. So we have a precedent. And those.
Starting point is 00:31:13 guys who are big stars went and immediately won and immediately were great and immediately won Super Bowl. So there's a little pressure number eight on Russell Wilson. Number seven. Ryan Tannihill, listen, he's not the long-term answer and he's the biggest cap hit in the year of in the NFL this year. He's a $38 million cap hit highest in the league. So there's always going to be pressure when you're the highest cap hit. But he's 34. Nobody views him as sensational or the future. But I will say this. We think Vrable's a good coach.
Starting point is 00:31:48 They have a great front four. They have a dominating running back. And it's a bad division. The pressure for him is, dude, you've got to get us to the playoffs. Because there's 25 guys in this league that could get this roster in this cruddy division of the playoffs. So I do think he faces that pressure. Not Super Bowl winning, but the coach, the back, the front, the roster's too good in
Starting point is 00:32:09 that goofy division not to be a playoff team. Number six. Tyler Murray. Listen, he's gotten better every year. But now he's going to get paid a lot of money, and he's had a little bit of injury issues. And he tends to be better early in a season than late. Now, that maybe is Cliff Kingsbury and not Kyler Murray.
Starting point is 00:32:25 I think he's sensational. But there's a little pressure now once you get the big money and you get it early to stay a little healthier and be better at the end of the year. There's a sense, is it he or Kingsbury doesn't quite have the juice weeks, 12, through 17. So there's a little pressure. He's at 6. Number 5. Justin Fields. It may be totally unfair. I don't know how he's going to do.
Starting point is 00:32:49 But he struggled in his rookie season with an offensive coach completing only 59% of his throws. He had the fewest passing yards on average among all qualified quarterbacks. Now, the Bears' offensive line was a tire fire. They had like almost 60 sacks.
Starting point is 00:33:07 It was like, you know, bingles bad. So there's that. But I do think Chicago is a big market. It's a loud market. Green Bay won't be as good. There's a feeling this division for the first time in a decade is truly up for grabs as Green Bay doesn't have a number one or a number two receiver and Aaron's getting older. So I think there's heat on, first of all, there's heat on every Chicago quarterback. But he's going to have to show something special here in year two. Number four. Zach Wilson, New York. Now, it may not be his fault. I don't know if Robert Saul is the guy.
Starting point is 00:33:38 But major accuracy concerns. And I do this. think the Jets are going to give them one more year. But remember, if they're bad and we suspect they are, it's a great quarterback draft class next year. So what if the Jets are drafting six? I think Zach Wilson's smart enough to know. I got to put some wins up. I got to put some I got some Ws up. And if I don't win, I've got to show improvement. And it's New York. It's a big boy media, big pressure. So I think Zach is number four. Number three. Again, if he signs a contract, Maybe there's no pressure. Lamar Jackson's in a weird space. Bernard Pollard's criticizing him.
Starting point is 00:34:18 He struggled in the playoffs. Now, all that running around, he got hurt last year, and there's concerns about that. Why aren't the Ravens paying him? The divisions must better. Now, here's the good news. He's got the most wins, 37, of any quarterback in NFL history before 25. It's why I'd pay him. But there is this thing now.
Starting point is 00:34:37 Now Deshawn's in the division. Now Burroughs a star. Okay. you can't be the third best quarterback in your own division. That doesn't work. You've got to be the first or the second best. So there's a little pressure on him as Deshaun comes in and Burrough keeps building. He's got to go toe to toe with those guys.
Starting point is 00:34:56 That's real pressure. Number two. Carson Wentz. I like him way more than everybody else. But he's on his third team in three years. Jim Ursay said it was a mistake to acquire him, which was brutal. He had 27 touchdown passes and 7. seven interceptions and he was a mistake.
Starting point is 00:35:15 I think, and I really do think Wentz has talent. I think he's got a little Sam Darnold where he's reckless. I think he's a really talented guy. I think he's a good guy. Is that once Nick Foles won that Super Bowl without him, it just kind of put him in that, wow, is he overpaid? And did we overdraft for him? There's pressure here, though.
Starting point is 00:35:35 I mean, let's just say that they're no better than they were with Taylor Heineke. That's his last shot because he's just too. expensive. Number one. I think it's Tua. Folks, if you look at Miami skill people, Tyree Kill, Jalen Waddle, Cedric Wilson, Mike Gasecki, two capable backs, and an offensive head coach. And the Dolphin spent the second most money in the NFL in free agency. They spent a boatload. A lot of it's going to be Tyreek Hill. So I think the feeling now is he's also had little injury bug in college and the pros. So the question is now, we know there's quarterbacks in this league that could take Miami's
Starting point is 00:36:20 offensive roster and win a lot of games. It is really exceptional. Their wide receiver group is outstanding. Can Tua be one of those guys? And he also faces the pressure that if he is good, it's probably a money. It's money. I mean, this offense is now too good. The Jets aren't great.
Starting point is 00:36:41 New England's not great. We know Buffalo's great. You got to get to the playoffs. I feel like I think with this organization, it's a good quarterback class next year, he's got to get him sniffing the playoffs or into the playoffs. Maybe not even win a playoff game. But I think he faces the most pressure.
Starting point is 00:36:59 The good news for Dolphin fans, my fateful aid, the good news for Dolphin fans is he handles the podium very well. He's not snarky. He laughs at the critics. He seems more than capable emotionally to handle it. Maybe that's the advantage of playing at Alabama. You got Nick Saban barking at you. That kind of pressure.
Starting point is 00:37:19 He handles pressure really, really well. Some guys do. You know the one guy that didn't. He's now out of Cleveland. So my fateful eight, here we go. The eight most pressurized quarterbacks in the NFL this year. Again, I didn't do Daniel Jones. I thought last year was the pressure year.
Starting point is 00:37:36 I think privately they're going to draft a quarterback. next year. And they're not going to be very good. So it'd be different if they drafted 28. But the Giants are going to have a top 10 pick next year and six quarterbacks are going to be drafted. So you know the fan base and the media is going to be saying, draft another quarter. How about Jalen Hertz of the Eagles? They add A.J. Brown. They went to the playoffs. I thought he bought himself time. He got into the playoffs in the middle of a rebuild. They were rebuilding last year. And he got him to the playoffs. So to me, whether you like him or not, if you get into the play,
Starting point is 00:38:11 now I'm not counting like Mahomes. I'm not counting the great ones. For 90% of this league, if you get into the playoffs in a rebuild, to me, I can't move off you. There's no way. I think this year,
Starting point is 00:38:27 he'll get better. Hersch will get a little better. Most quarterbacks get better with more time. I think the dilemma is going to be, do we have to start thinking about paying big money? Because I don't know if I would yet. But I did think, It's a legitimate question.
Starting point is 00:38:39 I thought he bought himself some space. And another other guy I'd ask about, James Winston, they bring back Michael Thomas at receiver? To me, he's Daniel Jones. The verdict is out. It's just private. Nobody thinks James is the future. He looked okay last year. Well, Daniel Jones has his moments.
Starting point is 00:38:56 Daniel Jones cut down on his turnovers. I think Daniel Jones and James, nobody sees them as we're building the fortress around you. It doesn't need to go public. You're going to give them a bunch of starts. but what happens when you're in that space, all it takes is one bad game, and people go, I told you so. They forget a two-game winning streak.
Starting point is 00:39:15 They crush you for a bad half or a bad pass late in the fourth quarter. Jay Mack, you were sensational. Thanks, buddy, for showing up. Great to be here, man. This is a lot of fun. It was. I want to thank Nick Wright, who came in twice.
Starting point is 00:39:26 Eric Mangini, Bernard Poller, given us content on a Thursday I am off tomorrow. Then back for a full week. Next week. Speak for yourself is around the corner. Be safe. Have fun. It's a great summer. squeeze every bit of fun you can out of it.
