Starting point is 00:00:00 This is an I-Heart podcast. Guaranteed Human. Another podcast from some SNL, late-night comedy guy, not quite. Unhumor me with Robert Smygel and friends. Me and hilarious guests from Bob Odenkirk to David Letterman help make you funnier. This week, my guest, SNL's Mikey Day and head writer, Streeter Seidel, help an a cappella band with their between songs banter.
Starting point is 00:00:23 Where does your group perform? We do some retirement homes. Those people are starving for banter. Listen to humor me with Robert Smigel and friends on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Imagine an Olympics where doping is not only legal, but encouraged. It's the enhanced games. Some call it grotesque. Others say it's unleashing human potential. Either way, the podcast's superhuman documented it all, embedded in the games and with the athletes for a full year.
Starting point is 00:00:52 Within probably 10 days, I'd put on 10 pounds. I was having trouble stopping the muscle growth. Listen to Superhuman on the IHard Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. A win is a win. A win is a win. I don't care what I'm saying. Yep, that's me, Clifford Taylor the 4th. You might have seen the skits, my basketball and college football journey, or my career in sports media. Well, now I'm bringing all of that excitement to my brand new podcast, The Clifford Show.
Starting point is 00:01:21 This is a place for raw, unfilled conversations with athletes, creators, and voices that not only deserve to be heard, but the show. celebrated. So let's get to it. Listen to the Clifford show on the IHeard Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcast. And for more behind the scenes, follow at Clifford and at TikTok's podcast on TikTok. On the Look Back at it podcast. For 1979, that was a big moment for me. Eighty-four is big to me. I'm Sam J. And I'm Alex English. Each episode, we pick a year, unpack what went down, and try to make sense of how we survived it with our friends, fellow comedians, and favorite authors. Like Mark Lamont Hill on the 80s. It was a wild year. I don't think there's a more important year for black people. Listen to look back at it on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Thanks for listening to The Heard Podcast. Be sure to catch us live every weekday from 12 to 3 Eastern, 9 to noon Pacific on Fox Sports Radio and FS1. Find your local station for the Herd at Fox Sports Radio.com or stream us live every day on the iHeartRadio app by searching Heard.
Starting point is 00:02:24 You're listening to Fox Sports Radio. Welcome to the 2022 National League Championship Series. Fastball pole, diving stop, the clone zone. Bryce Harper. Did he get enough? He has been exceptional. Two, two. He swings and misses.
Starting point is 00:02:50 Back-to-back keys from Wheeler. Seven scoreless innings. And it is a breaking ball. Swarber was ready. Kyle Swarber tees off. Phillies take game war. The NLCS continues today with game two on FS1 as Bryce Harper and the Phillies. Take on Mani Machado and the Padres.
Starting point is 00:03:13 Coverage begins at 3.30 Eastern 12-30 Pacific on FS1 and Fox Sports app. Well, you got the Yankees got off to a big lead with some bombs yesterday. The Phillies got off to a lead. Bryce Harper's having a great postseason. This is when the stars shine, just like the NBA playoffs. Give me the Padres today, evening up to the series. Padres even up the series. I think that goes the distance.
Starting point is 00:03:34 Yankees Astros, the Astros have had their way with the Yankees. No, no. I will not stand for it, Colin. Yankees take that series. I think Houston's the best team in baseball. And I think they are. I think if you add everything, I think they're the best team in baseball. Tyler Duns, the founder and a writer at golongtv.com.
Starting point is 00:03:52 Former Bill's writer, Packers beat writer. He's got a new book out. I do want to start with the Packers. There's a Chase Claypool rumor today. And, you know, when I heard about these great young rookie receivers in the preseason, my takeaway was timeout. starters don't play in the preseason. They didn't face number one and two corners. They're from Reno, FCS schools.
Starting point is 00:04:14 Aaron, Aaron's not going to trust these guys against, you know, Minnesota, week one. So the Chase Claypool rumor to me feels like, oh, now you've got a one. And then you can be less reliant. When you hear a rumor like this, you know what they pay Aaron. do you think they're willing to give up draft capital to get a Chase Claypool? He's basically the assistant GM at this point, right, Colin? I think they'll do whatever Aaron advises. You made that deal with the quarterback two years ago,
Starting point is 00:04:48 what he's holding you hostage. And, hey, I get it. I absolutely get it. He's a Hall of Fame quarterback. He's won a couple back-to-back MVP's. I think at this point, if he wants Chase Claypool, the Packers are probably going to do everything in their power. to make it happen.
Starting point is 00:05:02 But is it going to be the band-aid that this team needs? I'm not so sure. You know, I really thought that this defense maybe could have been what that 2015 Broncos defense was for Peyton Manning at the end of his career. Even the 2020 New Orleans Saints defense for Drew Breeze, where they're really close to the Super Bowl. And Drew Breeze's arm is just shot at that point. It's just kind of been an okay to above okay defense.
Starting point is 00:05:27 Aaron Rogers needs to play a lot better than a tick, as he put. given how the defense is playing, given the fact that Aaron Jones isn't getting the ball, whether that's on the quarterback or the head coach, we can debate that for hours. I didn't just think Aaron Rogers needs to play better. I mean, he just missed throws. And the line wasn't great. I get it. But he's a $150 million man, a four-time MVP, who's just not given you much above ordinary at this point.
Starting point is 00:05:51 You know, I have been critical of Matt LaFleur. I've said, you can see great coaching. You can see it with Brian Dable. You can see it with Belichick, how he flummoxes. confound young quarterbacks. You can see it with Andy Reid. As Sean Peyton leaves New Orleans, now James Winston, not the same player. I can see great coaching. I may struggle to figure out what's the difference between average and slightly above average, but we can all see as fans. Great Lincoln Riley at USC. Really clever coaching. And I've said this with Matt LaFleur.
Starting point is 00:06:22 The special team since he's been there have been a bit of a mess. The defense this year's underachieving. He, I don't know why, but I thought he was known as a guy that builds run games and Aaron Jones at times disappears. And I feel like he's almost trying to appease and placate Aaron instead of just coaching a football team. That's what it, now, I'm known as a Green Bay hater, but nothing feels as good as it could be. And I wonder if he's just in the business of now like getting along with Aaron and not coaching enough because I don't see the footprint of great coaching. Do you? I do think he's a good coach. because I do think at the end of the day, your record does speak for itself.
Starting point is 00:07:08 And he's won a hell of a lot of games and a historic clip. But I'm not going to disagree with you, Colin. I think that Matt LaFleurr absolutely gives Aaron Rogers carte blanche at the line of scrimmage in the building. I mean, we've seen it day to day. And that can be a great thing, right? I mean, he is an all-time quarterback. But I'm with you. At this point of Aaron Rogers' career, he can't go on that 2016 run.
Starting point is 00:07:34 he went on. I mean, one of the best stretches of quarterback play that you'll ever see. He just doesn't have that athleticism. He doesn't have that level of arm strength. He doesn't have those receivers in the locker room. He needs a coach who is going to call a sequence of run plays that are going to set up past plays. And guess what? You've got AJ Dillon. You've got Aaron Jones. And no universe should Aaron Rogers be throwing the ball 40 times that Aaron Jones gets nine carries. That's insane. And I tend to think that's more the quarterback at the line of scrimmage. I feel like Matt LaFleur being, you know, the divisor of this run game and the head coach, he wants to get Aaron Jones the ball. If not, that it is on him, but they have to figure it out one way or another
Starting point is 00:08:14 whether it's the coach or the quarterback, you've got to get Aaron Jones the ball. So this week, it's Washington. Taylor Heineke, you got to go back to last year to get film on him. He moves a lot. He can move the chains. He's one of those guys that you're never going to build around, but he can certainly beat you. That could be a Bailey Zappy. Now, I don't know. if anybody's going to build around him, but you show up Sunday and you're not in your game. Do you think if they lost, and this is a five-point spry, I think Washington, this is a tough game, it's on the road. This is not a gimmy. You have to go last year to look at this quarterback's performance. If they lost, is that the time you go, okay, we have some fundamental issues. You've been around Green Bay.
Starting point is 00:08:58 Not a lot of time in your career. They've had a losing record seven games in, and Minnesota is now, extending the lead. Did you ever see panic? Could we get a little panic forming here in Green Bay if they lose and Minnesota wins? They should panic. A little urgency would be nice, right? A pulse? I think that's kind of what people want to see out of Rosa Wilson and Denver.
Starting point is 00:09:22 And they'd love to see it out of Aaron Rogers and Green Bay. I thought Jair Alexander hit the nail on the head in London when he said, hey, I'll be worried if we lose next week to the Jets. And he got the old tis, tis from the quarterback and told not to manifest, you know, negativity and all of that. Hey, at this point, it's good to have some urgency. That can be a positive thing. And this team, they looked like a team to sleepwalking through that game against the Jets. They did. I don't know. It doesn't make sense. I think that, yeah, if you lose to the commanders, there better be a little bit of panic. There better be some changes. And I think that Green Bay,
Starting point is 00:09:57 I got, I caught a lot of hell for this two years ago. What a missed opportunity with Aaron Rogers at the absolute peak of his powers with an MVP. They could have done two off seasons in a row to basically ask for whatever you want. What, three, four, first. Now, Patrick's their town. Whatever you want, name your price, you could have had it. You could have been in that situation. Seattle's in now where they trade Russell Wilson.
Starting point is 00:10:18 They're set up beautifully for the future. At this point, you're all done on Aaron Rogers. For better or worse, you're going to go as far as he takes you because the defense isn't as elite as you thought it could be. I don't know where it goes, but I think that their best bet is him, buying into Aaron Jones, buying into Matt LaFleur, running the ball more, and you hope that defense turns a corner. So you have written a book.
Starting point is 00:10:39 I can't wait to get my hands on it. The blood and guts how tight ends saved football. Why tight ends? The tight end position, man. It is football distilled to one position. I really feel like everything you could populate out this sport, the violence, you know, the intensity, the adrenaline rush you got under the. lights back at high school football. I mean, it is all right there in tight-out. You have to do
Starting point is 00:11:08 everything. You have to block. You have to go run a route. And I just started traveling the country to basically search for the soul of this sport because everybody else, I'm losing my mind watching these flags. It seems like the NFL is searching for this middle ground, this utopia, that doesn't exist, right? I mean, there is an element of risk to football. These guys sign up for, they know what the risk is when they take it on. And from Mike Dicca to Tony Gonzalez, Jeremy Shockey, Rob Grunkowski, George Kittle. It was just awesome to travel the country, sit down with these guys over a couple of drinks, and see why they were the uniquely qualified individuals who kept football alive.
Starting point is 00:11:46 And I still think they're saving football today. By the way, Travis Kelsey is arguably top three ever. George Kittle, when Healthy's top five ever, Mark Andrews right now in Baltimore, is uncoverable. We have some of the most talented wide receivers of all time. The blood and guts, how tight end save football. Finally, you covered Buffalo for a while, and it's interesting. The two smallest markets in the NFL are Buffalo and Green Bay, and you covered both.
Starting point is 00:12:21 Green Bay has always had this sort of, we always call them the post office of the NFL, sort of no owner, very conservative, don't draft flashy white. wide receivers early, go defense. Buffalo has taken some big swings in their life. And I, you know, Josh Allen, Stefan Diggs, Mario Williams years ago, even though the two smallest markets in the league covering both, did they feel very similar? Did they feel like, or did you always feel that Buffalo and Green Bay? Because that's very rare.
Starting point is 00:12:54 I don't know if there's anybody else in the league that has covered those two franchises. Similar or dissimilar? extremely similar. I mean, the town is one of the same with the football team, and you can't say that in other markets. I mean, you can feel it. It's palpable. After those playoff losses in Green Bay, I mean, everybody is just dejected, depressed.
Starting point is 00:13:17 And you feel it. And same thing after a win. Now, in Buffalo, I think there's been this infuriary complex of like, we just can't have nice things. I mean, the four straight Super Bowl losses, the 17-year playoff drought, you throw in a Music City miracle in. between and I don't know how much more these fans can take. I mean, the heartache has been real all the way up to 13 seconds last year. But I'll say this, even through all that heartache, even through the resiliency of this city,
Starting point is 00:13:43 to just wake up at the morning after some of these losses. I've never seen people as excited about this football team as they are right now. I mean, growing up in Western New York, living here now, it's real. I mean, they are the Super Bowl favorite for a reason. they had the MVP frontrunner for a reason. Anything short of winning a Super Bowl, I think is a disappointment because they are that talented this season. Tyler Dunn, go longt, d.com.
Starting point is 00:14:10 Get his new book. Great as always seeing you, man. Great seeing you, Colin. Thanks so much. You bet. Either way, the podcast's Superhuman documented it all, embedded in the games and with the athletes for a full year. Within probably 10 days, I'd put on 10 pounds. I was having trouble stopping the muscle growth.
Starting point is 00:14:48 Listen to Superhuman on the I-Hart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. A win is a win. A win. A win is a win. Yep, that's me, Cliver Taylor the 4th. You might have seen the skits, the reactions, my journey from basketball to college football, or my career in sports media.

This is a place for raw, unfiltered conversations with some of your favorite athletes, creators, and voices that not only deserve to be heard, but celebrated. One week, I'll take you behind the scenes
Starting point is 00:15:26 of the biggest moments in sports and entertainment, and the next we'll talk about life, mental health, purpose, and even music. The Clifford Show isn't just a podcast, it's a space for honest conversations, stories that don't always get told, and for people who are chasing something bigger. Do you remember when Diana Ross double-tapped Little Kim's boobs at the VMAs?
Starting point is 00:16:01 Or when Kanye said that George Bush didn't like black people. I know what you're thinking. What the hell does George Bush got to do with Little Kim? Well, you can find out on the Look Back at it podcast. I'm Sam Jek. And I'm Alex English. Each episode, we pick a here, unpack what went down, and try to make sense of how we survived it.
Starting point is 00:16:18 Including a recent episode with Mark Lamont Hill, waxing all about crack in the 80s. To be clear, 84 is big to me, not just because, of crack. I'm down to talk about crack on day, but just so y'all know. I mean, at this point, this is the second episode where we've discussed crack. So I'm starting to see that there's a through line. We also have AIDS on the table right now.
Starting point is 00:16:40 Thank you finishing that sentence. I don't think there's a more important year for black people. Really? Yeah. For me, it's one of the most important years for black people in American history. Listen to look back at it on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your Welcome to my new podcast, Learn the Hardway with me, your host, and your favorite therapist, Kear Games.
Starting point is 00:17:02 And in recognition of Mental Health Awareness Month, I'm bringing over a decade of my own experience in the mental health field and conversations with so many incredible guests. I'm talking, Tript Fontaine, Ryan Clark. Sometimes when we're in the pursuit of the thing, we get so wrapped up in the chase that we don't realize that we are in possession of the thing. And we're still chasing it. And we don't know when we've done enough. Because people scoreboard watch.
Starting point is 00:17:27 Life becomes about wins and losses. Steve Burns, Dustin Ross, because you find it important to be a good person while you hear on earth? Are you a good person because you're afraid? Because that's two different intentions, bro. Absolutely. And that's two different levels of trust. I want you to just really be a good person.
Starting point is 00:17:44 Join me, Kear Gaines, as we have real conversations about healing, growth, fatherhood, pressure, and purpose on my new podcast, learn the hard way. Open your free, our heart radio app. Search learn the hard way and listen now. Thanks to CarShield. Don't have to worry about your car.
Starting point is 00:18:00 When it breaks down, go to CarShield.com. Code Herd. 800391-888-8. Save 10% in your plan today. 100 bucks a month. All it takes, CarShield, J-Mack with the news. No, no, no, no. Turn on the news.
Starting point is 00:18:14 This is the Herd-Line News. Okay, Colin. Let's start with Thursday night football, Kyler Murray and the Cardinals' offense. We know it's been a tough go, but good news. they get D'Andre Hopkins, aka D.Hop, back from suspension. Hope you have them in your fantasy roster. I've been stashing him all season, waiting for this game.
Starting point is 00:18:32 I'm waiting for that. I think the Raiders and the Cardinals eventually do pop. Yeah. I do. I think they're too talented in an offensive-leaning league not to win. However, Kyler Murray is saying, hey, hey, this isn't going to fix everything, DeAndre Hopkins coming back. It seems like every time you see him, you know, out on the field,
Starting point is 00:18:51 it's like there's a reason why he's, you know, he's the best. you know and I'm excited for him excited to be able to throw him the ball again you know what I'm saying never took that for granted it's not a miracle thing that just you know everything's you know gone we still got things we got to be better I still got things we need to fix obviously having him back definitely helps but we still got to be better in all the areas that we're you know not good in right now they've got to start faster they also got to get a kicker um I think the issues here center around an owner who resents his quarterback. I really believe that. I do not think it's Steve Kime.
Starting point is 00:19:30 Kyler and Steve Kime, I don't want to worry about. I like the roster on the quarterback. The coach, we can debate. But I think this organization, fundamentally, the issue starts at the very top, and it's been very public. And that addendum came out, and they made sure it was leaked. And I do not believe Kyler Murray's career is going to end in Arizona. I'll leave it at that. Let me just say this. So they look like a good car, right? Kyler Marie is flashy.
Starting point is 00:19:54 You love the way he throws the football. You drill down and look under the hood, Colin. Their center missed the game. Rodney Hudson, the guy who came to the writers. Great player. Great player. The backup is getting dumpedrucked on his butt every down. And the guards, Pew got hurt.
Starting point is 00:20:07 So now you get pressure up the middle on a short quarterback. And we saw Kyler really struggle against Seattle. Well, Rodney Hudson is a top three center. So that's like the Chargers O line this week. Corey Lindley, their center's out. He may be the best center. What happened to their O line? Herbert running for his life.
Starting point is 00:20:22 So the narrative online, right, is Justin Herbert's not that good. Look at the offensive line, guys. Nobody can be good behind these guys all beat up. Left tackle is your most important lineman. Your second is center because he calls all the protections. You cannot lose a Rodney Hudson and a Corey Lindley. I remember years ago saying this when Jeff Saturday was up for a contract. And I went on the air and I said, Peyton Manning's hard to deal with.
Starting point is 00:20:46 He's brilliant. You better understand the value of Jeff Saturday. academic, smart, tough, pushback on Peyton. Like, you cannot give a young quarterback, Kyler or Herbert, a third string center. Shock, they're going to be running for their lives. So we undervalue, we overvalue the big hitting safety. We undervalue centers.
Starting point is 00:21:10 We undervalue, you know, we know corners are valuable. You know, we don't talk about the Mike linebacker who's setting up all the defensive plays. So I just, I think, as often, Offensive lines are falling apart. Rodney Hudson, Corey Lindsley. Yeah, what a shock. They're gone. You go to a, by the way, the Rams, Brian Allen Center's gone. Still waiting for that guy to come back. If he's there, that O-line looks totally different because he's calling the protections. So it sounds like you may be leaning Arizona Thursday?
Starting point is 00:21:39 Not going to get into it. All right. We'll save it for tomorrow. Okay, next up, Colin. Tuat Tungo Wailoa, expected to return to the starting lineup Sunday against the Steelers. He talked to the media about his concussion. Oh, my goodness. It is a little sad to Liddle. listen to, but, you know, he basically says he doesn't remember right after the hit. And like, anyway, here's here's Tua. It's been a process, that's for sure, having to deal with the interviews with the NFL and the NFL PA and then having to go and see doctors outside with second opinions.
Starting point is 00:22:14 So a lot of it has been, I would say, pretty stressful. but all of it's done for player safety and, you know, I'm glad that I got to go through those things to kind of understand more of, you know, the deals of concussions and, you know, the effects, long-term, short-term. Yeah, it's real. Listen, when his hands fenced, as they call it, it scared everybody in the league. It was, you know, we've seen this before with Draymond in the video. When you see things, you could talk about, oh, Tua had a concussion, and he laid on the field.
Starting point is 00:22:55 And then you see viscerally, you see that video of his hand. It changes everything. It literally changed how officials now are officiating quarterback hits. That shot of his hand. So, Colin, listen, sometimes we like to go deeper on this show. I don't think other shows are talking about this. I'll mention it on my podcast every now and then. So do you know who is one of the coaches on the Steelers defensive staff?
Starting point is 00:23:17 No. Brian Flores. Steelers, Dolphins this week. What Brian Flores did not like tour, remember. I know it was really
Starting point is 00:23:25 fine. Brian Flores knows very well to his limitations. I know everybody's talking about, oh, Pittsburgh got a lucky win. Miami's getting to her back. They're going to be fine.
Starting point is 00:23:33 Last week on this show, I told you, Wink Martindale against Lamar Jackson, saw him every day in practice. No, no, it matters. Brian Flores is going to have the defense.
Starting point is 00:23:41 And Minka Fitzpatrick is a former Miami Dolphin. Listen, Brian Flores, I know it ended ugly, was terrific in Miami. He is a brilliant. He is Belichick's best assistant. I mean, name another assistant with Belichick took over. In a year, we were like, oh my God, who's Brian Flores? He was a home run until he struggled with Tua. His quarterback in him, and we've seen us with Zimmer and Kirk Cousins, it's just too many fissures in the relationship. I don't know how this is
Starting point is 00:24:08 a touchdown spread. Everybody thinks, oh, Miami's going to be fine. Just be very careful with this game, guys. And finally, we had some great basketball last night. Let's go to the NBA. But we also had baseball in the NLCS. Kyle Schwabers, 488-foot homer, caught everyone's attention. As the Phillies took game one, two-nothing went over the Padres. In the ALDS, Aaron Judge and Stanton led the way
Starting point is 00:24:31 Yankees knock out the Guardians, setting up another showdown with the Astros. Now you are bullish on Houston. If you look at all, listen, I follow certain baseball people. Houston does about everything right. They've got better pitching than the Yankees, so they're not going to have as many home runs.
Starting point is 00:24:47 And if you go look at the last three or four series, Houston's had their way. Houston's probably the best team in baseball now that the Dodgers are out. So NLCS continues with game two today on FS1, Phillies Padres. Coverage begins at 330 Eastern, 1230 Pacific on FS1 and the Fox Sports app. If I got to put you on the spot, who you got in the World Series right now. Houston, Houston. And? San Diego will pull it out.
Starting point is 00:25:11 Yankees, Phillies for me. I'll go opposite. All right. J. Mack with the news. Well, that's the news. Stopping by. The Herd line. Be sure to catch live editions of The Herd weekdays in noon Eastern 9 a.m. Pacific.
Starting point is 00:25:24 This is Steve Covino and Rich Davis. And together we are Covino and Rich. Coveino and Rich. Thanks, buddy. That's right. Or when Kanye said that George Bush didn't like black people. I know what you're thinking.
Starting point is 00:27:45 What the hell does George Bush got to do a little kill? Well, you can find out on the Look Back at it podcast. I'm Sam J. And I'm Alex English. Each episode, we pick it here, unpack what went down, and try to make sense of how we survived it. Including a recent episode with Mark Lamont Hill waxing all about crack in the 80s. To be clear, 84 is big to me, not just because of crack. I'm down to talk about crack on day, but just so you all know.
Starting point is 00:28:11 I mean, at this point, Mark, this is the second episode where we've discussed crack. So I'm starting to see that there's a through line. We also have AIDS on the table right now. Thank you for finishing that sentence. Yes. I don't think there's a more important year for black people. Really? Yeah.
Starting point is 00:28:27 For me, it's one of the most important years for black people in American history. Listen to look back at it on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Welcome to my new podcast, Learn the Hard Way with me, your host, and your favorite therapist, Kear Games. Starting point is 00:28:53 Sometimes when we're in the pursuit of the thing, we get so wrapped up in the chase that we don't realize that we are in possession of the thing and we're still chasing it and we don't know when we've done enough because people scoreboard watch. Life becomes about wins and losses. Steve Burns, Dustin Ross,
Starting point is 00:29:12 you find it important to be a good person while you hear on earth? Are you a good person because you're afraid? Because that's two different intentions, bro. Absolutely. And that's two different levels of trust. I want you to just really be a good person. Join me, Keir Gaines, is we have real conversations about healing, growth, fatherhood, pressure, and purpose on my new podcast, Learn the Hardway.

Jim Jackson, Fox Sports NBA analyst, a decade and a half in the NBA. So I watched the Warriors last night, and I guess my only two questions are, how do they get these young emerging players minutes?
Starting point is 00:29:58 Because they're really deep. And I don't know when you can get Cumminga and Moses Moody on the floor, because I think they're good. It's just they got so many good young players and veterans. My other issue is Draymond Green and Poole. So Poole got the extension. Wiggins got the extension. Draymond hasn't.
Starting point is 00:30:15 Do you think that incident is a, you've been in these locker rooms, you've been in a lot of them. Yeah. Is this thing just last and last and wear a team out? What do you make of it? Well, I mean, first of all, they had to take care of Jordan Poole just because of the upside. Future wise. You understand building something. It's like, okay, short term game for long-term success.
Starting point is 00:30:36 With Moody, Caminga, also Jordan Poole, you understand it, Wiseman, that that's the future. of the Golden State Warriors. And the ownership is not afraid to dig into the luxury tab. They've been into the luxury tax the last eight years. So this is par and parcel for what they've been doing. The issue with Draymond is a little bit more challenging because he's an unrestricted free agent next year. And well, player option he has next year.
Starting point is 00:31:01 Then he's a free agent after that. Are they going to dig into their salary cap even more to sign Draymond to a maybe four or five year deal at 100 plus million? I don't know if that's particularly the case. I don't know if this sends a direct sign to say that we're going to wait. I think a lot of it has to do with the timing. What happens with the young players just sheer the development of Kaminga on what he brings to the table. But we've seen in the past that Golden City is committed.
Starting point is 00:31:28 But at some point, the question is, are you going to pay that much for Draymond Green when he's 30 plus years old? I don't know if Golden City is going to do that. Yeah. Now, I mean, when you re-sign Wiggins and then you have Kaminga and Wiseman, you've got some defenders in length. So it's a legitimate question for the people that are not fans of Draymond Green. What do they do? They're already paying potentially $500 million in luxury tax. I would say this for the Lakers.
Starting point is 00:31:53 I thought LeBron dropped a subtle hint after the game smiling when he said, you know, we don't have a lot of great shooters. So we didn't shoot well. He was basically saying, get me buddy healed. I mean, I think LeBron's. But Colin, didn't we know that coming into the year? Of course. If you look at the roster, the construction, you already knew when you looked at Patrick
Starting point is 00:32:17 Beverly K, 41% three-point shooter, but he doesn't shoot volume three-point shot. Right. You know, as good as Austin Reams may be in the future, as far as to shoot, only 31%. Matt Ryan doesn't have the luxury at the time. He only shoot 25%. And Cole Swatter just coming out of college. So who do you have on that roster from a really good shooting perspective? But more importantly, Colin, when the Bron James is winning championships, look at the team.
Starting point is 00:32:42 that he had. He had veteran leadership, guys that can shoot that have been through a lot in their league, whether that's Ray Allen, whether Shane Batier, Kyle, I mean, who else was it? Mike Miller. Mike Miller, Kyle Corver. All these guys could shoot.
Starting point is 00:33:00 They were veteran. They had kind of been through a lot. The roster construction for the Lakers is not conducive to that. So no matter how good if Russ stays, if Russ plays well, if Anthony David plays well and LeBron plays well, okay, you get 70, 80 points out of them. Okay. Where the other hundred and, I mean, 20, 25, 30 points coming from. Right. Consistently. And especially when you need three points shooting in today's game, the roster construction is not built for that, but I think that the Lakers are looking at, they'll have cap space available next year and we're not going to
Starting point is 00:33:34 bog down or go over the luxury tax right now in order to gain a player or two that may impact us for the long term. Yeah. I want to ask you, Ben Simmons, Kyrie Durant. It should work. It should be spectacular. Because Simmons is exactly what they need. A defender, length, and a distributor.
Starting point is 00:33:55 Do you think it works? If, if, big question. I think this team, the three of those guys, I really do believe that they need about 45 or 50 games together. Why? Because you develop continuity. You understand the ends and outs of the games. game and what each player really likes to do on the basketball court. Now Ben Simmons can understand
Starting point is 00:34:18 how to get KD into his spots, how to play off of Kyrie. But with that being said, Colin, even that game, even that continuity, championship teams who ultimately win it, now there are some outliers, usually go through a period of disappointment where they get to the pinnacle and then they end up losing because of some sort of, whether it's injury standpoint or other team is just constructed better. Yeah. the key for Brooklyn is being tested enough to go through those tough times and enough games to get a download of who they are ultimately as a team. Okay.
Starting point is 00:34:52 Joe Harris, does he come back healthy? Sapal-Turray, does he come back healthy and can give them what they need? And do they go through a struggle during the course of the year where they have to grind out games to find out who they are consistently enough? Because getting to a championship is one thing. But as you know, winning it is a totally different thing. And having them on the court can get them there. Will that ultimately get them over the top?
Starting point is 00:35:18 I'm not for sure. Finally, a minute left. Your surprise team in the NBA this year. Who's going to surprise us? Now, surprise meaning what? Like, ultimately get to a final or really make some noise? A conference final team potentially that we're not seeing. I think Cleveland's really interesting.
Starting point is 00:35:36 Oh, yeah. Cleveland is interesting, young but still trying to figure out. I think a team that you need to keep your eye on us to. Toronto. And the reason why I say Toronto is this, listen, they didn't shoot the ball particularly well from the field like 25th, I think in the NBA last year. But one thing they did really well, because they're long and they're athletic, is that one, they offensive rebounded the ball, well scored about 17, 18 points a game off of offensive rebound. Second, they defended extremely well. Their switchability across the board, they may not have a seven foot or seven one or six-tened
Starting point is 00:36:07 but they have a lot of six eight, six nine, six ten guys that can switch and guard on the perimeter. And as you know, Nick Nurse is one of those coaches kind of that love to play defense. So this is a team last year. Think about this, that finished fifth in the Eastern Conference, didn't shoot the ball extremely well from the perimeter. If they improve upon that shooting, continue to grow those young players. I mean, Kim Birch is back. He gives you a big body inside. Chris Borset is getting better. That's a team in the east. That's a team in the east. That, If you put it together, they stay healthy. I'm not going to say they're going to win a championship,
Starting point is 00:36:42 but we saw last year who thought that it was going to be Golden State in Boston, really across the board, in the finals. A lot of things happened during the course of the years, course of the year that allowed those two teams to get there because of injuries and different things. So just watch out for Toronto just to make some noise. Jim Jackson, Fox Sports, NBA, open last night. A couple good ones on tap tonight.
Starting point is 00:37:04 Buddy, good seeing you. Hey, good. You see this hat right here? I see it. This is for you. I want you to loan me a little money so I can join a really good country club, okay? That's big money. That's the big money out there for Jim Jackson.
