Starting point is 00:00:00 This is an I-Heart podcast. Guaranteed Human. Another podcast from some SNL, late-night comedy guy, not quite. Unhumor me with Robert Smygel and friends. Me and hilarious guests from Bob Odenkirk to David Letterman help make you funnier. This week, my guest, SNL's Mikey Day and head writer, Streeter Seidel, help an a cappella band with their between songs banter.
Starting point is 00:00:23 Where does your group perform? We do some retirement homes. Those people are starving for banter. Listen to humor me with Robert Smigel and friends on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Imagine an Olympics where doping is not only legal, but encouraged. It's the enhanced games. Some call it grotesque.
Starting point is 00:00:42 Others say it's unleashing human potential. Either way, the podcast's Superhuman documented it all, embedded in the games and with the athletes for a full year. Within probably 10 days, I'd put on 10 pounds. I was having trouble stopping the muscle growth. Listen to Superhuman on the IHard Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Hey, what's good, y'all? You're listening to Learn the Hard Way with your favorite therapist and host, Kear Games.
Starting point is 00:01:10 This space is about black men's experiences, having honest conversations that it's really not safe to have anywhere, but you're having them with a licensed professional who knows what he's doing. How many men carry a suit or armor? It signals to the world that you're not to be played with. And just because you have the capability that does not mean that you need to. Listen and learn the hard way on the AHA radio app, Apple Podcast, or wherever you get your podcast. Hey, this is Robert from the Stuff to Blow Your Mind podcast. Joe and I are both lifelong Star Wars fan, so we're celebrating May the 4th with a brand new week of fun, thought-provoking Star Wars-related episodes.
Starting point is 00:01:47 Join us as we tackle science and culture topics from a galaxy far, far away, such as the biology of ton-tons and wampas on the ice planet hot, or the practicality and corporate business sense of the Sith rule of two. Listen to stuff to blow your mind on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Thanks for listening to The Heard Podcast. Be sure to catch us live every weekday from 12 to 3 Eastern, 9 to noon Pacific on Fox Sports Radio and FS1.
Starting point is 00:02:14 Find your local station for the herd at Fox Sports Radio.com or stream us live every day on the iHeartRadio app by searching Herd. Now let's get this party started. You're listening to Fox Sports Radio. Don't miss your chance to win $100,000 of Terry Bradshaw's money on the Fox Bet Super 6 app where players have won over $5.5 million. Scan the QR code, download the app, and pick the outcome of six NFL games for your shot to win. Browns at Patriots is one of the matchups.
Starting point is 00:02:44 Colin, who wins and by how many points? I like the Browns by a touchdown. Mack Jones is still a rookie quarterback. New England's wins have been over mostly young rookie quarterbacks. I think Cleveland's offensive line is outstanding. They're going to kind of control the clock. It'll be a very competitive game at Foxborough. But I think Cleveland's got one.
Starting point is 00:03:04 We've talked about this in September. We said it's a top three roster in the NFL. When will their defense get together? Because they had seven new starters. Well, in the last three weeks, if you watch Cleveland's defense, it's become what we've predicted. It's a bunch of new guys. You put them together.
Starting point is 00:03:17 Things take time. Don't judge them in September. November, now Cleveland's defense with all those new guys like John Johnson in the back end. Denzel Ward's been great for years when he's healthy, so it's like, boom, now Cleveland's defense is a real deal. That's a Super Bowl defense and a Super Bowl offensive line. You know, I'm not the biggest fan of Baker,
Starting point is 00:03:34 but there's a lot of components for Cleveland. Josh Norman 49er cornerback got hurt, dealing with a rib injury. The Niners season feels like it's on the line Monday when they take on the Rams. We know Josh because he used to work here, and he's always available to us, and we love him for that. Leads the NFL, by the way. Four force fumbles, so you still can be a game record on the outside.
Starting point is 00:03:58 So first of all, you're dealing with an injury. And you're a veteran player now. Go back to your rookie year, Josh Norman. And now veteran Josh Norman, when you're not playing, Josh, can you help the team? Do you talk to DBs? What do you do while not playing that maybe as a rookie you wouldn't have felt comfortable doing? And it's six, calling, not four. They cheated me on a couple of sports funnels.
Starting point is 00:04:24 But, hey, we're not counting. We're not counting. But, like, I would say just the knowledge. I think I've gained a lot of knowledge in this game throughout my 10 years, playing it that I'm able to see a lot of things. And when I do see it, I'm not just keeping it to myself. I'm actually sharing that knowledge. I'm sharing that information.
Starting point is 00:04:47 and if I can see a split, if I can see a combination, I just want to let my guys know that, hey, look, this is coming. Be alert for the screen because I've seen it on this formation. So it's alerting the guys and always being, you know, in tune because somebody's going to need help. And that's how I came to be because somebody helped me. Yeah, no, that's a great way to do it. Pass it forward. So OBJ to the Rams.
Starting point is 00:05:14 Now, you're looking at RAM stuff now. you're seeing the video of the Rams. What does that offense look like to you? Can OBJ work? I mean, what do you see when you look at tape on the Rams offense? Well, I see their explosive. Obviously, got better with the Q. Matt Stafford, he's one of the best in the game right now,
Starting point is 00:05:35 his efficiency and how he plays the game. He looks guys off and come back to his reeds, and they, nine times out of the 10, they open, just because he becomes, the field general, and that's hard to do. And he's been that guy, he's been delivering that deep ball like he always have, that big arm. And so just understanding that they are a threat for a big play with Sean McVey back there, you know, on the O.C. on the headset, you know, he got his guy, and you can see how they are, you know, got this little triangle going on between them and Cooper
Starting point is 00:06:11 Cup, who was obviously a big part of their offense. And so, understand. standing with those guys at all time. And, you know, adding, you know, OPC, I think he came in with them as well. So that's another dynamic and dimension to their game. They already got Woods out there. So they're looking pretty good. Like I said, they have some things that pose challenges for defenses,
Starting point is 00:06:35 but that's nothing that we haven't seen before. By the way, you were a teammate of Cam Newton. So he went to New England. And we had said this. I didn't know if he'd fit with Belichick. And he did. He did fine. And then he said, hey, I'm going to get vaccinated.
Starting point is 00:06:48 I want to show you people. I'm serious. I want to play. And Carolina's like, all right, come on back. He's big in Carolina. He's got a huge fan base in Carolina. How much do you think Cam has left, Josh, in your opinion? I don't know.
Starting point is 00:07:01 The guy still can play. I think you ask that question to anybody who's in that position. Guys think that, yeah. There we go. I think I lost him for a second. He's on that. What was that? I was going on there.
Starting point is 00:07:17 We've had a good run of no technology breakdowns. We probably had a two, three months without a technology breakdown. It happens. Yeah, I do on average. Well, I do a podcast like four days a week at home. It's all sorts of craziness. You know, Zoom link isn't perfect. Well, it's the Internet's and, you know, stuff breaks in here all the time.
Starting point is 00:07:39 And it's just how it goes. Sometimes it just, like they have minds of their own. They don't feel like working today. Are we good with Josh? All right, they're redialing him right now. He used to work here, obviously. So Josh, so let's go back to Cam. Your thoughts, Josh, on what we're going to see what's left in the tank?
Starting point is 00:07:59 Well, I'll say that he's a guy that works extremely hard. If you've got to see that, he's a competitor. I think he compete. He always wants to be that guy with the ball in his hands and end of the game. So I don't see anything in that that will stop him. But he's coming back home to Carolina where it was all started for him. So I think that's a little extra motivation to go in with that. But, you know, being there in the Bank of America Stadium, it's just rowdy.
Starting point is 00:08:30 So I know how that feels. It's exciting feeling. So you and Cliff Kingsbury, you had a little bit of a moment here. So it just, you tell me what happened. Take me through that. Oh my God. Just, I don't know what you want to call it, but, you know, I think it was just on the play. It was worse, but it was friendly worse.
Starting point is 00:08:56 Nothing serious, nothing overbearing. He put his hand out and shake my hand and I actually thought about it for a second. And I was like, all right, I'm going to shake his hand too because we was just, you know, having a friendly spat there and nothing more than that. And, you know, kind of went away and saw these other guys come up. And, you know, I think the referees that they got in there. And, you know, some of this stuff, man, it's just kind of out there. But at end of the day, you know, there was a situation that happened.
Starting point is 00:09:23 Obviously, you know, I guess two people who know each other can't really get in, you know, shake each other's hand anymore now. I think that's called Tom. But at the same time, we're trying to have some fun with the game. And sometimes it's taking it a little too serious. but we got a flag for that so obviously that's not what we wanted to do in that situation so
Starting point is 00:09:47 it hurt the team and I truly didn't mean anything by it and I thought that coming into something like that I mean Cliff there was just a cool you know conversation but obviously they deemed it it was more than that and as you see this this has been a thing in the league
Starting point is 00:10:06 with this stuff and it's it's crazy it's crazy What is Shanahan, when Joey and I argued about this yesterday, so what do coaches say about taunting? Because you're a very emotional player. So when the season started, did coaches have a meeting about this? Did you talk about taunting? Was it discussed? Yeah, it was discussed.
Starting point is 00:10:26 It was a good thing we even had a toning penalty on our team up until last week when that happened, which was so bizarre, like I said. But it's discussed, it's talked about, I mean, showing videos of it. But in the day, it's like, dude, how you play this game with no emotion? It's, you know, you got, like, grown men that got all this testosterone, they, you know, battling against other grown men. And it's just like, okay, we've been seeing this play for the longest, and you have some emotion, and you do a little celebration, and they look at that as taunting, and it's kind of like, man,
Starting point is 00:11:02 it's the game that we love so much, you know. You do a good thing. You want to expose that. You want to get that out of you. And obviously, it's frowned upon. So obviously, you've got to look at that and do it another way. Right. All right. Finally, Troy and I have been talking about this.
Starting point is 00:11:23 When it comes to young quarterbacks, I love to see him get six, eight snaps. What do you see at practice? I mean, obviously, he's a young kid. He didn't play a lot. I mean, he hasn't started a game in the last 30 months. What do you see at practice from him? Oh man, he's he's a special talent man, he is She's gonna be he's gonna be a Craig quarterback
Starting point is 00:11:45 When the op comes you know Him and Jimmy is just Man, if I had two quarterbacks those guys are truly Getting better and better at each and every day and I'm glad to be a teammate of those guys and And how he's able to perform even in practice with a trace seeing him on scout team and how he's able to, you know, whip that ball out there, man, sharp. And then obviously going against Jeannie in the game, or not game, but in a game like type of atmosphere when we are at practice, man, those guys, they can sling that rock.
Starting point is 00:12:21 So, listen, man, you put any one of them up the ops, bro. It's just a good feeling to be on a team that can have guys like those two at the hem in the Q. All right, buddy, good luck to you. Get healthy fast. Niners and the Rams Monday. Feels like the season, my man. Good luck to you.
Starting point is 00:12:44 Yeah, man. We got to take each one. Hey, every week. We got to take one at a time, one at time, one at time, and see what we can do. We dug ourselves a hole, but we're going to get out of it. Let's believe that that's the mentality we got to have, and we're going to go and start Monday night.
Starting point is 00:12:59 So here we are. Thank you, God. Appreciate you guys. All right. Josh, Norman, they have to win, or they're three and six, and what makes it worse? is that Arizona should beat convincingly the Panthers this weekend. If the Rams did beat the Niners,
Starting point is 00:13:13 and let's say the Packers were upended by Seattle, you're in fourth, you got a quarterback issue, you have a coach under fire, and you have a defense right now that's banged up and not playing well. So San Francisco's season pretty much hangs in the balance on Monday. One more herd? The herd streams 24 hours a day, seven days a week within the IHard Radio app.
Starting point is 00:13:35 Search Herd to listen live or on demand whenever you'd like. Imagine an Olympics where doping is not only legal but encouraged. It's the enhanced games. Some call it grotesque. Others say it's unleashing human potential. Either way, the podcast's Superhuman documented it all, embedded in the games and with the athletes for a full year. Within probably 10 days, I'd put on 10 pounds.
Starting point is 00:14:00 I was having trouble stopping the muscle growth. Listen to Superhuman on the iHeart radio. app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. A win is a win. A win is a win. I don't care what I'm saying. Yep, that's me, Clifford Taylor the 4th. You might have seen the skits, the reactions, my journey from basketball to college football,
Starting point is 00:14:20 or my career in sports media. Well, somewhere along the way, this platform became bigger than I ever imagined. And now I'm bringing all of that excitement to my brand new podcast, The Clifford Show. This is a place for raw, unfiltered conversations with some of your favorite athletes, creators, and voices that not only deserve to be heard, but celebrated. One week, I'll take you behind the scenes of the biggest moments in sports and entertainment, and the next we'll talk about life, mental health, purpose, and even music. Starting point is 00:15:10 on TikTok. Do you remember when Diana Ross double-tap Little Kim's boobs at the VMAs? Or when Kanye said that George Bush didn't like black people. I know what you're thinking.
Starting point is 00:15:20 What the hell does George Bush got to do with Little Kim? Well, you can find out on the Look Back at it podcast. I'm Sam Jek. And I'm Alex English. Each episode, we pick it here, unpack what went down,
Starting point is 00:15:31 and try to make sense of how we survived it. Including a recent episode with Mark Lamont Hill waxing all about crack in the 80s. To be clear, 84 is big to me, not just because of crack. I'm down to talk about crack on day, but just so you all know. I mean, at this point, Mark, this is the second episode where we've discussed crack, so I'm starting to see that there's a through line. We also have AIDS on the table right now, so.
Starting point is 00:15:54 Thank you for finishing that sentence. I don't think there's a more important year for black people. Really? Yeah. For me, it's one of the most important years for black people in America. in history. Listen to look back at it on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Welcome to my new podcast, Learn the Hardway with me, your host, and your favorite therapist, Keer Games. And in recognition of Mental Health Awareness Month, I'm bringing over a decade of
Starting point is 00:16:20 my own experience in the mental health field and conversations with so many incredible guests. I'm talking, Tripp Fontaine, Ryan Clark. Sometimes when we're in the pursuit of the thing, we get so wrapped up in the chase that we don't realize that we're. We don't realize that we We are in possession of the thing, and we're still chasing it, and we don't know when we've done enough. Because people scoreboard watch. Life becomes about wins and losses. Steve Burns, Dustin Ross, because you find it important to be a good person while you hear on earth, or are you a good person? Because that's two different intentions, bro.
Starting point is 00:16:53 Absolutely. And that's two different levels of trust. I want you to just really be a good person. Join me, Keer Gaines, is we have real conversations about healing, growth, fatherhood, pressure, and purpose on my new podcast Learn the Hardway. Open your free iHeartRadio app, search Learn the Hardway and listen now.
Starting point is 00:17:12 Joy with the news. No, no, no, no. Turn on the news. This is the Heard Line News. We're at week 10 in the NFL, which is halfway point of the season, and Bucky Brooks handed out his mid-season awards.
Starting point is 00:17:28 So his most valuable players so far, Kyler Murray, I would agree. Offensive player of the year, Cooper Cup, defensive player of the year Miles Garrett Rookie of the year Najee Harris Unsung Heroed is Kevin Bayard
Starting point is 00:17:42 and coach of the year John Harbaugh these were released before last night's game so I wonder if Bucky still feels the same about John Harbaugh I think he probably will
Starting point is 00:17:52 he's going to join us next that was not a game to overreact to as hideous as it was basically up until the fourth quarter had everything you could ask for in a crazy night but I would, I think this is an interesting list, especially the Najee Harris.
Starting point is 00:18:09 Yeah. Because we're really talking about Jamar Chase and Mack Jones. I mean, I don't, there's not a lot I disagree with. I think Najee Harris, Roshan Slater, left tackle. You know, nobody's going to give an offensive lineman rookie of the year. Baird had a good game against the Rams. Coach of the year to me is Kingsbury. Because, I mean, John Harbaugh, I don't know, nothing against John.
Starting point is 00:18:33 I just, I feel like what. I think I'd have to give it to Kingsbury, too. I mean, he's what he's having. He had a bunch of new faces. Kyler Murray's still really young. They bring in J.J. Watt. Now they lose J.J. Watt. He has to go to Colt McCoy.
Starting point is 00:18:49 And they go on the road. It's like one thing losing a running back. It's another losing a star quarterback. And beat a division rival. Divisional opponent. Yeah, I think Kingsbury's, you know, it's a funny world that Cliff Kingsbury is a much better NFL coach than a college coach. You know, we got into this discussion this morning about this.
Starting point is 00:19:05 I said, McVeigh would be a great college coach because he can sell. And you've got to sell your AD, your boosters, recruits. McVeigh would be a home run. I've said this for years. I'm not sure Belichick would be a great college coach. First of all, you get 17 hours a week. Bill's system is complex and he is a grinder at practice. You can't be.
Starting point is 00:19:24 He's not going to deal with boosters. And does Bill really want to get on a plane and fly around and suck up to no? And I'm like, Parcell, same thing. Parcell's Belich. I do not see as really successful college coaches. Now, Jimmy did it, but Jimmy's a TV personality. Jimmy's got a big personality. He's a big personality.
Starting point is 00:19:43 But it's like... And Jimmy is also a teacher. Like, he's in it, you know, especially at the... I think he really appreciated the college game. But they're two different businesses. Oh, yeah. Well, one, the player selects you. The other, you mostly select the player.
Starting point is 00:20:03 But even now that's changing. And with the image-likeness, it's changing even more. It's just like a constantly evolving thing. So Zach Wilson will not start again this week as he recovers from a sprained knee. Mike White has played well as a starter in his absence, although he was dealing with an injury as well. But the rookie says he is not worried about his job security. I've only played five games. I just got here.
Starting point is 00:20:26 You know, I'm supposed to be a senior in college right now. You know, like you got to understand it's going to be hard. And I'm not making any excuses. but that's where growth comes. I definitely didn't come here thinking, you know, this is going to be the greatest thing ever and we're going to go undefeated. You know, I knew it was going to be tough. And that's part of the process.
Starting point is 00:20:44 That's what makes football so fun. So my time's going to come. He is right. And I liked his transparency about it all. And it does kind of sound an excuse-like, but it's a reason. There's a difference between an excuse and a reason. Like you can paint the picture of reality. Well, this was the worst situation.
Starting point is 00:21:03 of all the quarterbacks. Jacksonville actually wasn't as bad because of Urban Meyer and the understanding for Trevor Lawrence that there's no expectations. This kid comes in and there's kind of New York expectations that, okay, Donald didn't work, but we got him better pieces. And then we got you, and then we went out, we spent a little money here and a little money there. So the expectations were a little bigger on him.
Starting point is 00:21:29 Like Trevor Lawrence, nobody can say four wins. isn't good enough. That would be right now with him, and let's be honest, New York's harder than Jacksonville because it's a different place. There's less patience there. Jacksonville, if it's still
Starting point is 00:21:45 a little bumpy by year five, they're still going to be in it. That's how this goes, even with the new sense of urgency in the NFL. So yeah, it is the toughest situation to go to. And the expectations should probably be more reasonable considering that, but it's New York, and that's how it goes.
Starting point is 00:22:01 Different markets and different teams. have different cultures around them and that's what it is. Now he struggled a bit. He's 57.5 completion percentage, four touchdowns, and nine interceptions. I don't want to get too crazy in the comparison of Mike White and Josh Johnson to him. Like, he is still a rookie quarterback. Yes. And he's got a much better arm than both of those quarterbacks.
Starting point is 00:22:22 Brand new. And when he is available to come back, he's going to be the starter again, as he should. Because the future is not Mike White and Josh Johnson. And this was my argument last year with Tua. it's going to be my argument once if the Niners lose this weekend and they're out of it, it's time to develop. Like that's the point of this.
Starting point is 00:22:42 Is it, you know, struggles? Is it losses? Is it kind of ugly sometimes? Yes, but you have to see the bigger macro picture of developing young quarterback. So he'll be back now. He is the Jets' most talented quarterback. That you can't argue.
Starting point is 00:22:56 But he needs the experience. Yep. The bills are favored by 11 a half against the Jets this weekend. That's about it, right. Okay, so this was kind of fun. College basketball season kicked off this week. And last night got a little crazy ending between UC Riverside and Arizona State. Riverside was down by two with 1.7 seconds left to go.
Starting point is 00:23:15 Let's take a listen and see what happened next. You cannot foul here. Oh, my goodness. That is crazy. As they look one more time, Riverside, a stutter from beyond half. I don't know why you go for the steel there. It feels like this whole thing could have been avoided. Like you don't need the steel.
Starting point is 00:23:43 Yeah, just don't. Just like a good defense. But he went for the steel and he made the J.P. Mormon made the buzzer-beater three-pointer to give UC Riverside a 66-65 win over Arizona State. I don't know this to be true, but I'm going to proclaim this the greatest shot in UC Riverside history. I have no idea. Based off of no research. It was fun though. Big East basketball is tonight on FS1.
Starting point is 00:24:06 Kent State. at Xavier at 630 Eastern. But it's fun. I love moments like this, especially in college sports, because that's something you talk about forever. It's the crowd. Yeah. Everyone's moving except for the UC Riverside bench.
Starting point is 00:24:21 That is nuts. A little fun little moment last night. That was great to put in the show. Joy with the news. Well, that's the news. And thanks for stopping by. The Herd Line News. Be sure to catch live editions of the Herd weekdays in noon Eastern 9 a.m.

We also have AIDS on the table right now. Thank you for finishing that sentence. Yes. I don't think there's a more important year for black people. Really? Yeah.
Starting point is 00:27:36 For me, it's one of the most important years for black people in American history. Listen to look back at it on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Welcome to my new podcast, Learn the Hard Way with me, your host, and your favorite therapist, Kear Games. And in recognition of mental health awareness month, I'm bringing over a decade of my own experience in the mental health field and conversations with so many incredible guests. I'm talking Tripp Fontaine, Ryan Clark. Sometimes when we're in the pursuit of the thing, we get so wrapped up in the chase that we don't realize that we are in possession of the thing. And we're still chasing it. And we don't know when we've done enough.
Starting point is 00:28:15 Because people scoreboard watch. Life becomes about wins and losses. Steve Burns, Dustin Ross, because you find it important to be a good person while you hear on Earth. Are you a good person because you're afraid? Because that's two different intentions, bro. Absolutely. And that's two different levels of trust. I want you to just really be a good person.
Starting point is 00:28:33 Join me, Kear Gaines, as we have real conversations about healing, growth, fatherhood, pressure, and purpose on my new podcast, Learn the Hardway. Open your free iHeartRadio app. Search Learn the Hardway and listen now. Escape Quick Book with QuickSand with NetSuite by Oracle. But go to NetSuite.com slash her,
Starting point is 00:28:54 the number one financial system, NetSuite by Oracle. So, Bucky Brooks, the Fox Sports Analyst, former NFLDB, second round pick, former Scout Panthers and Hawks. All right, let's just get right to it. Odell Beckham to the Rams. They already have Van Jefferson,
Starting point is 00:29:07 an emerging player they like as a three. Cooper Cups their one. Robert Woods was complaining he wasn't getting touches. They have a tight end that can catch. They've got mouse to feed in the backfield. What do you do with OBJ? You bring him in and you kind of figure it out. I think this is a great situation for OBJ.
Starting point is 00:29:22 One, he's in Hollywood. And I think Hollywood understands star players. And I believe in L.A., you have to build your team like the Lakers and Dodgers have done it. Star power. You have to have star power to make it to make it work. They obviously have done that, Jalen Ramsey, to go with Aaron Donald to bring Von Miller over. Matthew Stafford comes over. Now you bring OBJ. I think Sean McVease understands and has a presence where OBJ's persona won't overwhelm. And I think for OBJ, there were two things that he needed
Starting point is 00:29:54 to reemerge as a top player. That is a passer and a play call it. Because in Cleveland, system was so rigid, it was a timing-based system. It's one where, hey, when the quarterback hits this spot, the ball has to be out, you need to get there. If we're in the ice cream shop, I want vanilla ice cream, no sprinkles, no chocolate sauce, no nuts, I just want you, boom, vanilla ice cream. Oh, B.J doesn't operate like that. He's Rocky Road. He's mint, chip, he's all of that other stuff. And so it takes a play caller who understands, hey, I need to give my receiver time to work a little extra on double moves and those things. And so, He also needed a quarterback, a high-end quarterback, who also could be on the same page with him.
Starting point is 00:30:36 I think this is the best opportunity for him to be able to kind of show people who he was the first three years. He's not the same physically, and I think people need to understand when you have an ACL injury, it takes a year or longer to get back right. He also was trying to play through a shoulder deal, which may have contributed to some of the drops. All of that is more of a confidence thing in your body. but in a place where he's welcome and receive and they're going to do a good job of giving him the ball on reverses or whatever where he's engaged. I think he'll play and I think he'll play well.
Starting point is 00:31:07 And remember, they don't need him to be great every game. They're trying to get a spark from him that the bucks got from Antonio Brown in the playoffs. In the playoffs, Antonio Brown had a game or two where he made plays that got them over the top. That is what they're looking for from OBJ. He doesn't need to be no more receiver. He just needs to make plays when the ball comes to him
Starting point is 00:31:26 and it's time for him to step up when everybody else is. covered. So Lamar Jackson, COVID, talked about he was tired for a couple weeks after. Cam had it. Big athlete. Cam, a couple weeks after, didn't play well. He was tired. We've seen NBA guys get it. They're not the same player. Aaron Rogers has it. Are we just assuming he'll come out and be Aaron Rogers? I actually think that's a fascinating topic. I think it is a fascinating topic. And I think it was one of those things that we didn't talk about enough with Cam when people talked about his play declining last year. And then it came up at the end, about three, three, four weeks. It's post-COVID.
Starting point is 00:31:59 And it's impacted people differently. Everybody, like, when you get it, you react differently to pace of your body. I have a long hauler friend who's had it now for like six months. And it can change things. So I think we need to make sure, one, when Aaron Rogers returns, that he's healthy and that he feels good, that he's ready. Two, I think the Packers need to make sure they understand what he potentially could be dealing with and make the right choices in terms of how they bring him back, how they bring him back into the full, what his workout regimen is, and all those. things. But I think we would be foolish to just think that Aaron Rogers, who shows up on Sunday and plays, is going to be the same Aaron Rogers that we've always seen. We've seen this
Starting point is 00:32:37 pandemic. We've seen the virus affect people differently. Let's go to your Bucky's Midseason Awards. These are interesting. So I know, I like these. I would give Cliff Kingsbury my coach of the year. They brought on some contracts and money. It's a tough division. Kyler is still, he's a, you know, he can add a little bit. So I think guys like him sometimes are tougher to coach than we think. You got Harbaas the coach of the year. I don't have a problem with really any of them. Although I do think the left tackle for the Chargers, Rashon
Starting point is 00:33:05 Slater. Oh yeah, he's good. Like he is a, that's a 10-year. Yeah, he's real good. He's been good. He's been as good as the advertising. I think, you know, here's the thing, what was so tough about the rookies in the draft last year. You had a mix of players who played their final season, a mix of guys who didn't play.
Starting point is 00:33:22 And you wondered, how was the time off going to impact? And no preseason. No. like no freezes and then for Sean has just come out and just been terrific he's been awesome he's locked it down he's a premier left tackle already you know i want to throw this to you i talked about it this week the steelers first four picks were all offense so they found a very good b to b plus back an a tight end and two starters on the old line and i thought it was interesting i'm seeing this more and more it feels like to me as a former a scout that matt rule did this his first class like all defense and like you saw this year early, he wanted some offense. So it's funny, when I watch Pittsburgh, I'm like, oh, it's not surprising that at the
Starting point is 00:34:05 halfway point, Najee Harris, the tied in, the O'Linman, they're like real players now. It took about seven to eight weeks. And, you know, I just, when I watched Pittsburgh, I'm like, oh, they are going to be better offensively because they have four new starters and they're all kids. Yeah, no, that's the thing. And I think everyone has to understand with the young guys. And we beat up quarterbacks quickly because if they come in the lineup and they don't pop right away. We're like, oh, they can't play. It is hard to go from playing in college to playing
Starting point is 00:34:32 in the pros. The speed of the game is so drastically different, the intensity of the game, and what you're asked to process while playing full speed is a lot different. And it impacts people differently in terms of how quickly they can pick it up. Running back is a position that you can just come and play off your natural talent. It's easier a little bit for running backs to be able to do it with the exception of pass protection. But on the offensive line and some of these other positions where you having to pick up different stunts in games. You have to play with other people and communication is a part and remembering the playbook and the verbiage and all of those things that go with it, it impacts how you perform and how you play. And so sometimes we have to
Starting point is 00:35:11 exhibit a little more patience with young players because the light comes on differently, just depending upon what you've been exposed to, how quickly you're able to adapt to a new environment, and how mature you are on and off to field. Arizona had a quarterback bailed after a year, went to Kyler now that's the talk of the league. Miami had a quarterback. I suggested go draft another one. They didn't. Everybody's in trouble.
Starting point is 00:35:38 Philadelphia Jalen Hertz. Would you draft another quarterback? Because you know those guys in that building, Halle Roseman's going, well, Arizona, they're the talk of the league. Those Miami guys wish they would have done it. What do you do with Jalen Hertz? The issue is, I don't know if there's a quarterback in a 2022 class that makes you, stand up like the guys did. Like the difference is last year,
Starting point is 00:36:00 last year was the year if you were going to take a quarterback, you'd do it because there were legitimate dudes that you could hang your hat on. Trevor Lawrence, Justin Fields, you like Zach Wilson. There was a path for Mack Jones to have success. Everybody in that class, even Trey Lance, you could see star power.
Starting point is 00:36:18 This year it's not the same. I watched and Joyne knows like, I had the Pittsburgh Carolina game on my computer while we were doing the Amazon game. And I'm looking slightly at Kenny Pickett and Sam Howell. Both of those guys are good. I can't say that any of them are great.
Starting point is 00:36:35 And so when you look at this 2022 class, I don't know if there's a great quarterback. Well, Aaron Deshaun Watson or Russell Wilson, do we include them in that class? So here's the thing. If you're the Green Bay Pack, because I think Madel of Flores tells you everything that he thinks about Jordan Love.
Starting point is 00:36:52 He has never fully come out and endorsed him. He's kind of whined and moaned. and moaned whenever Aaron Rogers had said him not coming there. So he's not going to move off of Aaron Rogers if he doesn't have to. Russell Wilson, it was interesting because they were playing their game back and forth at the early part of the offseason. It appears that it's smoothed over, but who knows, I think it was more about money than anything else.
Starting point is 00:37:13 So the only guy now is Deshaun Watson. And Deshaun Watson, talent wise, is the top five quarterback. But it's the other stuff in how your organization and your fan base is going to deal with the off to field stuff. And the off the field stuff hasn't been resolved. And so depending on how your organization goes about this business and what things they can kind of tolerate and work around and deal with, that will determine whether Deshaun Watson will be kind of an option for you in the offseason.
Starting point is 00:37:42 So with all that being said, who knows what the Philadelphia Eagles do? Because I don't know if there's a quarterback that they can confidently say, this guy's absolutely better than Jalen Hurts. Let's proceed with this. I watched the Herbert and Hertz last weekend. It was a really interesting game. And I said this about Hertz. He doesn't throw a deep ball.
Starting point is 00:38:00 So that's a problem because every quarterback in league history that I like can throw a deep ball. Lamartho's a better deep ball than people give him credit for. He doesn't throw a deep ball. So there's limitations there. But he is productive and they're putting up 22 and 40 and 24. You know, so there's something. Okay, we got to go. Bucky Brooks.
Starting point is 00:38:17 Are you on speak for yourself? Yes, I'm going to speak. All right. You're not going to show up on the show and just leave. You've got bigger assignments ahead.
