how we sustain our payroll. We're just giving money away. So Melvin Gordon played in 16 to 17 games this year, once again, right up around 1,000 yards, 10 touchdowns. In fact, he's had six straight years, eight touchdowns or more, which is the longest streak in the NFL. So where are you at? That looks like a game room.

Where are you right now, Melvin? I'm in Cali. This is a bad, man. That's nice. So you got a new coach. He's an offensive guy. I got nothing against Vic Fangio, but it's an offensive league. It's an offensive coach.

I tend to think that's what you should have. Were you surprised they let go of Vic Fangio? I mean, I wouldn't surprise just because, like, you know, that's the NFL, you know. You're not winning games, and, you know, they bring people in. You know, they bring someone new in. I've been a part of it quite a few times. So, I mean, you know, it's kind of used to it. Yeah.

So you're 28 years old. You're going to be a free agent. What matters to you? Money, security, winning team, coach, what's going to matter to you because you're still wildly productive? Yeah. Money for sure, but the situation, too, that's a big deal because, you know, you can get paid somewhere and go to the team, suck, and get cut. You know, it's a situation, you know, when I got in the lead, man, I kind of know, I kind of learned fast that, you know, going to a system that fits you best, It's probably better than anything, man.

You know, money, a lot of guys choose off the money, and sometimes that don't be the best choice. Right. So, system is definitely one of the bigger things, man. So listen, there's a couple of stories out. Nathaniel Hackett, your new coach. By the way, I thought it was a great hire. He wants Aaron Rogers. If here's the question becomes, because running backs don't last forever, you've made good money.

If somebody said you can get Aaron Rogers, but you're not going to break the bank, how do you, would you be a Bronco? how's that land for you? Man, I don't know, man. But that type of guy, I guess you got to do whatever to get him. You know, I don't think you can break the bank. I think if we were to get him, we would have to trade some players. I'm assuming, but you don't want to trade too much because this whole thing is he

don't want to rebuild. So you don't want to trade him and then be stuck with a team that don't have the players needed to get to the bowl. So I don't know how they're going to do it, man. I don't know how it's going to work. I honestly, personally, I don't think he's going to leave Green Bay. But, you know, if we were to get him, man, it'll change. It'll change a lot of things over there in Denver.

I was going to say, I think, I said this, Melvin, I think Denver's loaded. I think you guys got, you got three or four receivers I like. Do you feel, in your opinion, because the Chargers team you were on was good, too? Do you think this team's more talented than that Chargers team that could, you know, you've only been to the playoffs one time in seven years, but that Charger team had a lot of dudes. Do you think Denver's more talented? Yeah, I think they got a few more guys than we did defensively.

With the charges offensively, I think we were just as good. So we had Keenan, we had with Mike, we had Hunter, we had Gates, we had me, we had Austin, we had Phil. So I think offensively we stacked up pretty well. defensively though I mean we got so many guys it's just I mean it's just crazy from the safety

from the corner pass certain you know Shelby Harris the line I mean we I think defensively just we're a little bit better than Denver Giovante Williams's very good rookie year you guys were a dynamic

duo does it and I if I ran an NFL team I would want two big back and I'd pay both. I've said it before. I want a Dylan and and Aaron Jones. I would draft late round another one. I don't want to lean on my guy to have too many carries. Does it worry you that they got a young, fresh pair of legs at running back at your position? Kind of, not in the sense that like, you know, I'm afraid of it or the competition or anything like that. But, you know, I know eventually they want him to be the guy.

and to take over. And the thing is, I'm still fairly young, and I still want to compete at a high level, and I just don't want to take the back seat. So I don't know, you know, at what point they're just going to be like, okay, we're going to make him the guy and just kind of put Melvin on the back burner. That's something to worry about. But, I mean, I haven't really gotten that from George.

You know, he sounds as if he likes both of us a lot and feel he can use both of us to help the team win. When do you think you'll make a decision? Again, your numbers, five of the last six years, you've had over 1,000 yards. This year you had 920 and 10 touchdowns. Third most rushing yards, fourth most rushing TD since you entered the league seven years ago. When do you think you'll make a decision on this? As far as what, whether I want to say or not?

Free agents, free agency and all this stuff. Two weeks? Supposedly. I'm just kind of waiting to, you know, my 8. agent talked to George and kind of see where their mind at. Obviously, you know, Denver is the priority. You know, they're the priority right now. We just want to see what they're talking about. And once I get the numbers from them and kind of see where, you know, they want me to be in the future, then we go from there and then start talking to other teams and kind of see where other scenes put me.

Have you met the new coach yet, Nathaniel Hackett? I did, man. His energy is crazy, man. I think he, the guys are going to love him. I think he's going to change a lot of things around there, especially the atmosphere. with how things are ran. It's definitely a coach I would like to play for. It's energy. I mean, you could just, from seeing him from the first time, I was just like, okay, this guy, he's going to be pretty good.

So I like it. Yeah, defensive coaches can get a little crusty. The offensive always guy, always have better sense. I mean, seriously, the funniest guys in this league are mostly offensive guys. They ever notice that joy? It's true. Old guys get low, the defensive guys get a little crusty. That's nothing against Vic.

But they do. Melvin it's great seeing you again. Good luck to you, man. Always, man. Thanks for having me. You bet. You bet. No, I mean, like defensive guys are like, they're tough guys. They're mostly like, yeah, just go out there and smack somebody. Offensive guys got to communicate with quarterbacks. They got to call plays. They've got to be more verbal, right?

Although I will say Mike Tomlin is quite funny. Yes, but he's very, he's very matter-of-fact, funny. He's very alpha matter-of-fact. He's the stepdad. You don't want to piss off. that guy is don't mess around with Mike Tomlin. There's a list of people you don't want to be mad at you. Mike Tomlin's number one. I mean, if Mike Tomlin literally said,

Colin, meet me in my office, I'd start crying. Like what other coaches are there that would not want? Didn't we interview someone recently? Ron Rivera. Ron Revere. Yeah, I wouldn't want to disappoint.

Who else? Ron Revere, I got no. Mike Frable. No thank you. But Mike is, you know, he's like, he's, yeah. He's young. He feels like kind of loose and funny.

I think I could make Mike Vrable laugh. No chance I could make Tomlin laugh. No, there's nothing you could say to make Mike Tomlin laugh. Like your best joke. Wouldn't laugh. He would see right through my nonsense. Who was it that we just had on recently that was talking about coach being mad at him? You know, I would pay Mike Tomlin to come on my show.

I don't pay guests. I would pay Tomlin to come on my show. He doesn't do interviews. Yeah. When's the last time he did a show? show. I wouldn't want Saving to be mad at me. Nick has been mad at me.

Yeah? Well, you tend to get college coaches upset. They are very into control and I am here to not allow you to have control. So college coaches. Belichick, obviously. I've seen. I banged on Nick a couple of years ago. I said, start playing some road out of conference

games. I don't want to see you play Panera Bread and Citadel. Go on the road and play a road game. I barked. He wasn't real happy with that. But that's okay. I like him. He knows I love him. He's a great recruiter, good energy, good on TV with the commercials. Very good. But he kind of, saying he was to manipulate in the schedule a little bit.

Everything was like neutral sight. Go on the road. You know who is a sweetheart? Who? But probably was one of the worst to get scolded by Jimmy Johnson. I would not want to be on Jimmy's bad side. Yeah. Jimmy

Yeah, no, I wouldn't either. Jimmy, I wouldn't mind being scolded unless he coached me. Well, yeah, that's what I'm talking about. Yeah, like, no nonsense. I don't think I would want to disappoint him. But those defensive guys can get real crusty. I mean, can you see Lincoln Riley yelling? I mean, like, you know, the bark would be.

Well, I don't think he's a yeller. Do you think McVeigh is a yeller? No. I'm telling you got to watch. All coaches aren't yellers, though. I don't really respond well to yelling. Offensive coaches are more verbal because they have to be. Right.

You have to be a little more detailed. Yeah. Football guys are like blow stuff up. I don't mind constructive criticism. I like constructive criticism. I don't like any criticism. I walk in, I want a sandwich, and tell me how good I am. I have a ways to go.

Then you're finishing that sentence. Yes, I don't think there's a more important year for black people.

This is the herd line news. How about Janus, huh? Miss Monday's game against the Blazers. 50. The angle injury. 50 points, 17 and 21 shooting. Bucks win 128, 119 over the Pacers. The 21 attempts were the fourth fewest in a 50-point game in NBA history.

I think I swear to God on this. Milwaukee is just sitting there in the weeds, taking a nap. They are not wasting any energy. They're going to just blow people up in the playoffs. Watch them roll through people. They're just not. They're not a drama team. They don't, they don't have the big personality. I mean, you honest, it's a big personality, but not, you know, controversial at all. NBA history champions flip switches. It's NFL's not like that. Like Green Bay, you get a week off. You're not the same team. Well, I think the Bucks also, learned in this last championship run that, you know, the regular season is great and you want to have good chemistry and you want to, you know, work out any issues that you have throughout the

season. But you really want to get through the regular season healthy and be in a good space going into the postseason. And that's what they learned this past championship year. He's just the third player in NBA history to have 50 points and 10 rebounds while also shooting 80% from the field. He's so long. He's incredible. And he's actually developed an isolate. He's got a nice, Look at that. Oh, Lord. He has actually a nice looking jump shot. He's really just fun to watch play basketball.

He plays with a certain energy and, like, happiness. And Beed's like that. Yes. Very, Akeem was like that. They're joyful when they play. Yeah. So he has the third, Janice has the third best odds to win the MVP, according to Foxx bet at plus 350 behind Mbeed. And Yokic.

The bucks are 36 and 23 and third in the east behind the heat and the sixers, who are both 37 and 21. So Deshawn Watson did not play for the Texans last season. GM Nick Casario said last month he is more than likely going to be on another team before the start of next season. And new coach Levy Smith told Albert Breer he would like to see some resolution into the situation as soon as possible. He said there are things that need to be taken care before football. The football part comes into play. We're patient. We've waited an entire year and I just feel like this offseason, it'll come to an end and we'll get it solved.

And it'll be good for both parties, whatever that might be. There's no answer to give right now except for that one. we're going to try and get it resolved as soon as we possibly can. This Watson, I mean, we have it, we, I think, collectively sort of just gave up talking about the Watson situation. It's all a legal matter, so what do we wait for? Well, yeah, so there's no answer from the league because the league is, from my understanding, not going to get involved in the investigation until the, you know, legal investigation is done until the, you know, if the criminal investigation, all of that is finished because they don't want to interfere with anything, as they shouldn't. But that means you're not going to get an answer. answer on any of this likely until then.

Technically he's allowed to play. He has a no trade clause, which also complicates things. He signed a four-year contract extension with the Texans in September of 2020 worth $156 million, $74.9 million guaranteed. Of course, he's not going to be playing for the Texans next year, but whatever team ends up getting him is going to have to give up a significant amount to get him because of the caliber player that he is, which you don't know what the legal situation is. And because it's not a class action suit, each of these individual suits has to be dealt with individually.

So who knows how long this could go on for? We didn't talk about it much throughout the season because once we kind of realize, all right, he's not settling and this is how it's going to play out, there's no point in, you know, it's a redundant conversation. But now with the possibility of Aaron Rogers leaving, Jimmy Garapolo, possibly Carson Wentz. Oh, no, that Carson Wentz is a real thing.

Possibly Russell Wilson. And he is expensive and has a no trade. Crade Clause. So he is also a big piece that we, you know, kind of mentioned in Passling because of his legal situation, but where he ends up going and he's going to be somewhere else other than the Texans. What they end up getting for him will be very interesting because it is still a massive gamble considering his situation. So safety, Eric Weddell was a great story in the Super Bowl. God, boy, did you see the, he played through a nasty injury. Yeah. Yeah, I don't, well, it's, we'll show, I think we're going to show a picture of it. But in the first quarter of the game,

Waddle came up holding the upper part of his front right side area after tackling Jamar Chase showing it here. He came out of retirement to play for the Rams, and he was seen getting a harness put on on the sideline, and he finished the game. Following the game, Weddell told reporters that he tore his peck and that he will have surgery. I don't understand how you can play with a torn peck. I don't understand that. How do you play with that? I don't know. So the tweet says, it's very small here, for the ring chaser crowd, Eric Weddell played three plus quarters with the

the ruptured peck in two places, called the plays on defense, led the team in tackles during the playoffs after missing 750-plus days of football. You should hope to be the millimeter of the man he is. Ring chase that. Boom. I will say this. The one thing about Weddell, and he's always had this reputation, most guys in the secondary, you need youth in the back end.

You can't be an old corner in this league, right? So Weddell's going to call the plays back there, and they lost John Johnson. you know, they had to give him up who went to Cleveland. So Weddell was back there calling plays and Colin coverages. He was extremely valuable. He was, and he's always been a great player, but he's one of those guys on the back end of that defense. Like football's a smart sport.

Like Weddell's back there calling coverages. Young, the secondaries are generally, you can have Larry Fitzgerald an old receiver. They don't have a lot of old corners in this league. And so you need the Ed Reed, the Ronnie Lott, the classic old safety, maybe it doesn't run like he used to. But the experience and the, you know,

the intelligence for the game makes up for that. He finished with five total tackles. He is re-retiring now. Actually, the Rams are having the parade right now. Are they? We'll get pictures and videos of that from tomorrow, which is well-deserved, obviously, you know, and it's nice for the city of Los Angeles

because, you know, we've had so many championships the last couple years here. We should just rename one of the first. the streets parade avenue. For real. We've got so many of them. Well, I mean, obviously there was a big story that LeBron had suggested that we have the Dodgers and Lakers involved in the parade, which it's Rams parade. Right. But they didn't get to have parades because of the pandemic the last few years.

I told you this. I think the Rams, the Dodgers have a huge fan base and they'll always be big in LA. They've been big for since this. I mean, I can remember Dodger games, Garvey, Ronsei, Davey Loves, Bill. Russell, Joe Ferguson, Steve Yeager. I've been in bits because the early 70s in L.A. They're huge. And it's the sport of the summer. L.A. weather's great.

Number two in this town, like it's always been a Laker, Dodger, U.S.C. town. Watch the Rams. This town is distracted. If you don't win, they're not interested. If the Lakers have a couple dud years and the Rams are back in Super Bowls, this league, the NFL is a

marketing machine. They will steal market share fast. Also, you have young kids who now, have the option of an NFL team in Los Angeles and the Chargers and the Rams. The Rams just won the Super Bowl. Part of the reason why there was a bit of an issue with home field advantage is there was no professional football here. So kids grow up having to, all right, who am I going to root for?

It's going to be the Niners or it's going to be the Raiders or some other team. So you have a lot of split allegiances in young kids. How do you pick your fan base when you grow up? You grow up a Steelers fan. You grow up a Rams fan. You grow up a Niners fan. So young kids being able to see the Rams in the Super Bowl and winning, that'll help their fan base as well because they want to be a part of that.

Do I trust him for at least the short term? Or do I move off him? Joy, here we go, trade or trust. Should the Browns trade for a new quarterback this offseason? No, I would trust him for one year. I would trust Baker Mayfield. You're paying him $19 million. He's got a bunch of injuries.

So right now, if you had to move him, what are you going to get for him? Trade deadline, eight games, warm weather. Now, they have to trade wide receivers. They got to draft wide receivers. They could go first two picks wide receivers. But again, he's a 500 quarterback. For no other reason. get his value up on the market.

He is a starting quarterback in this league. I just think his time in Cleveland is coming to an end, but I would trust him for another year. You're paying him $19 million. He's all beat up. There is no market for him. Right. Should the Steelers trade for a new quarterback this off season?

Trade. I mean, Dwayne Haskins and Mason Rudolph are 8, 14, and 1. There's too many good young talented players on this offense. Naji Harris, the tight end from Penn State, Chase Claypool, Deontay Johnson. Don't waste their years. Give them a chance. Go get win.

go get Garoppelow, go get Deshawn Watson. When you have young talent like that and they're not paying him yet, don't waste it. Don't waste years with that young wide receiving court. Should the Titans trade for a new quarterback this off season? I would trust him for another year. It's a bad quarterback draft. He's 30 and 13. Now he's very limited without Derek Henry, seven touchdown, seven picks.

But again, they ended up a number one seed. It's also not a great quarterback division. So you can be a little patient here. Vrable's not going anywhere. you've got some interesting young playmakers not all are young Derek Henry you're paying money to so to me go draft somebody this year

or wait for next year's draft but there's no rush here they're a number one seed he's good in the community he's a good guy players like him he had an awful day against the Bengals but the year before he beat the Patriots in new england right so like he's fine how about the Colts I would trust him for one more year folks he had 27 touchdowns and seven picks

with an average wide receiver tight end core. They don't have a lot of great skill. They do a lot of things well in Cincinnati. Real average at wide receiver, little old and creaky at tight end. He was 27 and 7. Again, he had a 95 passer rating. You didn't like the way it ended.

You tell me, where's the solution? It's not a vibrant market this year for quarterbacks. And when he's healthy, he's big, athletic, and can throw the ball down the field. Should the Broncos trade for a new quarterback? It's time to move off. Drew Luck. Listen, Vic Fangio and that staff didn't do him any favors. He'd be way better with Nathaniel Hackett. I don't doubt that. But the guy completes like 59% of his throws. He plays

too casually and too loose for me. I was never a big fan. You got Teddy Bridgewater in house. That's good for a year. Again, draft a quarterback. But the whole Drewlock thing, it doesn't work. Let's move. The Washington Commanders. Taylor Heineckee, you got to move it. I think he only beat one or two. Let me look it up here. He had two wins against teams with a winning record. They haven't won a playoff game since 2005 in the organization. Last four years, they've had 10 different starting quarterbacks. Taylor He's an awesome backup. He's got a very Colt McCoy feel to him. Tyrod Taylor. Starter gets hurt. You've got to start two games. Can he win one? Absolutely. Taylor Heineke's a gamer. But again, you've got some offensive weapons here.

you really do they've got they've drafted actually despite the dysfunction they've drafted pretty well you got to take advantage of those young guys you're not paying a ton to yet the new york football giants oh good hell let's move off daniel jones i don't know if you trade i mean trade him i don't know what you trade him for but this is the classic we we reached forum number six and now we have to validate it folks he completed 59 percent of his throws in college in a bad conference the acc with a great offensive coach David Cutcliffe. Okay, that is not good enough. It reminds me when Jake Locker came out of Washington in a soft conference with

Steve Sarkeesian, who's a good quarterback coach, Jake Locker was completing 59% of his throws. He doesn't throw the ball accurately enough. If you put Daniel Jones in the NFC West or the AFC West or the AFC North, he would be so far and away the fourth-best quarterback, you couldn't even compete. you're being fooled a little by the division which is bad. The Saints should they trade for a new quarterback this off season. Yeah, okay.

So we know Sean Payton's a great offensive coach, right? So every quarterback with Sean Payton is usually pretty good. Taysam Hill with all those starts with Sean Peyton and good weapons and a good old line. Nine touchdowns, nine picks. I think he's a great backup. I mean, seriously, if all of a sudden, and I, I also think he's the guy I'd use in three or four packages. He doesn't play like anybody else.

He's like Tebow, but is a better athlete and throws a thousand times better ball. Like I always said, there's a, there's, you could use Tebow in a locker room. I wouldn't put him at quarterback, but in his prime, you could have used him in a locker room. Taysam Hill's a great athlete. I'd love to have him on my team. I'm not going to pay him much, but he, he can play. But, you know, with Sean Payton, he's, he's 83 passer. guy. The Panthers.

Sam Darnold. Yeah, you got to move off him. I love Sam. They're paying him a lot. I don't know what his market is. Again, Sam doesn't throw the ball quickly enough or accurately enough. Matt Rule makes quarterbacks better than they usually should be. So if Sam is struggling with Matt Rule and Christian McCaffrey, and they've got pretty decent whiteout, it's not great, but pretty good, Robbie Anderson. It's not going to work. Breaks my heart, but it's just, he always had a, he always had a very, Sam had a very quirky delivery. And that was the knock on him. I look past it because, you know, whatever. But it's, he gets rid of the ball too slow. He's not terribly accurate. There's a lot of movement in his

throwing motion, too much movement. Doesn't work. The Eagles. I would, I would do it for a year. I don't think Jalen hurts, throws the ball well enough to, to be a 10-year franchise guy, but he's productive, got him to the playoffs. There's something there. I mean, again, he kind of won a lot of games. They got into the 30s a few times. He is kind of productive. He's kind of a handful because most teams don't have a Jalen Hertz to even prepare for.

So you're a week of practice. That's what I always said about Lamar. When you go play Lamar, you have to use a receiver that week in practice. You don't have a Jalen Hertz in your building. So you can win a lot of games with Jalen. It's not a great quarterback class. I'd run it back for another year. I still think they're kind of in a rebuild with their O&D lines.

I don't have a problem with it. And again, if we were in the AFC West, I maybe not feel this way or the NFC West. I probably wouldn't feel this way. But in that division, better than Taylor Heineke, better than Daniel Jones, not quite DAC but runs better than DAC. I'd run it back for one more year. Trade or trust. Ben Simmons, by the way, is talking.

He is now a member of the Brooklyn Nets. You know, it's funny. We were talking about this earlier. So I think Harden to Philly is going to win and win fast. But there was a scouting report. I went this morning and went online and looked up the scouting report for Ben Simmons out of college. It's literally exactly what he's become. Ben Simmons' lack of competitiveness in crucial games.

He quit in that playoff series against Atlanta. This wasn't competitive. Has raised questions about his character. Those who know him. him best say he needs to have everything revolve around him on and off the court. He's often been very close-minded to coaching or instruction. It's exactly what's happened. So there was a guy a couple of years ago.

He now works at ESPN. Jonathan Gavoni, six years ago was on our show. And when Ben Simmons was coming out, you know, and I had said, like, he was, he was about the best one-and-done prospect we had seen in the one-and-done era. I mean, 6-10 guard, great handles. can finish at the rim. And I always kind of feel like you can eventually learn to shoot. I mean, even Ray Allen came into the league.

He wasn't a dead-eye shooter. You know, you can learn to shoot. He just can't. But Jonathan Giovanni said this six years ago on the show. This is when Ben Simmons was like people were talking number one in the draft. This guy's an unbelievable talent. Here's what he said. He just hasn't really worked on that part of his game because he doesn't like working on that

because he's not good at it. You go to watch him and shoot around. He just refuses to shoot jump shots, you know, and that is because he's embarrassed. He doesn't want to show off his weaknesses. I don't know what it is. We saw, you know, the second half of the year, the kids just shut down. You know, he just stopped functioning. He stopped competing.

And those are major red flags. That's not, you know, what Magic Johnson did, and it certainly is not what LeBron James would have done. So the rule is you can change scenery, but the guy doesn't change. you take you with you to your new job. And so I think Brooklyn's going to be a handful. Again, KD's got, it's a lot of different personality. Isn't this what we just saw with Westbrook? A team trying to bring in a guy that has a consistent history
