Well, there is a story on Sean McDermott, a three-parter by Ty Dun, Tyler Dunn, who we'd be bringing on this show for years. He's covered the Packers. He covered the Buffalo Bills for years for the Buffalo News and the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, the top papers in that area. And then he decided to go out in his own. And we've been bringing him on this show, or I've been bringing him on my podcast at the volume for a long time.

He's a very good reporter. And he's got a three-part series on Sean McDermott. And it points to a lack of accountability by the show. the head coach and we've said over the last three or four weeks you can tell sean mcdermott's in trouble by the way his demeanor has changed at the podium he's much more apologetic a little less rigid at the podium it has changed and he was asked mcdermott was asked about tyler dunn's article at golongtd.com this morning it was clearly a attack on to me an attack on my character and and that's important to me very important it's been disappointing it's been um hurtful right um

At the end of the day, I know who I am. At the end of the day, I know how I handle myself. So a lot of times you have to pry information out of sources. there are other times sources contact you and want to give you information if i could which one

was it were people more than willing to talk here look howl and as you know there's the nfl that will be spun at a podium and press conferences with poll tested narratives and look sometimes a lot of coaches and a lot of players will keep it real at that podium a lot of times it's chum It's slop and it's not the truth. I do think that with the Buffalo Bills, with Sean McDermott, with the 25 players, coaches, personnel men that I talked to that have been in that building, there is an atmosphere day to day that as one assistant coach put to me, you're not just playing that team on a Sunday.

You've got to overcome your own head coach. And there's a lot that goes into it. I know we've got one segment to chat about it, but it could be something as small as the Buffalo Bills, wide receivers, loving their coach, Chad Hall so much that they're going to buy him a truck in 2020. I mean, that's unheard of. It's unbelievable. And then Sean McDermott turns it into the most negative thing possible. Multiple coaches told me. It was a dark day at one Bill's drive.

So just just one small example. I guess he didn't really like the relationships that these position coaches might have had with their players. they thought there might have been a little jealousy there. Just a needless war fought within, right? And then you can take a big picture to the point where you've got Josh Allen, you've got this freak show quarterback, only two or three people on the planet can do what Josh Allen does. Yeah, there's a reason latent games.

He produces what should be a game-winning drive. And Sean McDermott in the defense, get tight. You know, that's the other word. You hear robot and you hear tight. And I do think, we can get into 13 seconds if you want. I do think that that was a moment for this team. If we look back at the Sean McDermott era, that might have been the moment that broke the team

because it's one thing to just write it off his execution to the fans who are pouring their money, their sanity, end-year product. But that moment was never really dealt with within the building, several players and coaches said. When Sean McDermott is the one who calls for the boot through the end zone, the touchback, when the special team's coordinator calls a squib, When Sean McDermott, I was told, takes over the defensive play-polling duties from Leslie Frazier. And then Leslie Frazier is basically scapegoated in so many ways.

After that, he tells the coaches the next day, you guys got to figure it out and leaves. So I don't know. I get it. He's every right to defend himself. I'm just relaying specific stories that were shared by not one, not two, not three, many people in the building. Why did he get an extension last season amid all the chaos? Because it was even worse before he got here. Look, you got to get Sean McDermott credit for two big things, in my opinion, Colin.

I think that 17-year playoff draw, obviously, this was a team that was hiring retreads, right? The malarkeys, the Chan Gailies, the Dick Jorans, when the Buffalo Bill's head coaching job became available, you're not getting the best of the best to coach some of these quarterbacks in the talent level. Nobody even knew who the GM was for a long time. So the fact that he did come in and end the drought and clean up the building, look, they needed a lot of this order. They needed a lot of this discipline. To an extent they needed that militant kind of environment because it was a clown show with Rexrive. I mean, to the extreme.

But then it gets to a point where you draft Josh Allen. You've got an all-time quarterback and you can't get over that hump. I get it. The most winning coach of your job. Buffalo Bill's history, three straight division titles. You can make the case that Sean McDermott should be the head coach of the Buffalo Bills for a long, long time. I think that there's also a very strong case to be made that years from now, a lot of people

be looking back at this era of Buffalo Bills football and say, what if? Josh Allen's 27 years old. He plays a just all-out run-through-your-face style of football, as one friend and teammate explain to me. Just let Josh Allen be Josh Allen. Don't go on NFL network trying to neuter his game, saying that he's got to change his play style. That's kind of why you saw a sedated version for stretches this season,

putting those thoughts in his head, I believe. So let Josh Allen be Josh Allen, and I think an offensive coach who thinks big picture and doesn't get too granular. Right, they needed that granular early on. They needed that meticulous, maniacal attention to detail early on post-recks. It's gotten to the point where you need a coach who is just going to believe,

of his players and trust that trust their guts trust their intuition and you do that by going forward on fourth down you do it by going for the win with 20 seconds left and not taking a kneel you do it for going for the touchdown in fourth and six and overtime that same game against spilly time and time and time again the team is coached and managed in a way that is counterproductive given the unbelievable quarterback unbelievable talent that you have in josh allen i'll be honest this was a surprised to me their relationship it's not necessarily toxic i don't think it's you know even to the degree of a rogers mccarthy i was told it was just kind of absent it's just not really that dynamic not really that special now he did have that kind of relationship with

brian dable ryan dable is going to become the head coach in the europe giants that's that's understandable but i think that's at the heart of everything here in buffalo is they're just really not aligned like you see with a patrick Holmeson with an Andy Reid, even with a Bill Belichick and Tom Brady, where he's a sixth round pick, he's quote-unquote institutionalized as one off former Bill told me to Bill Belichick's way, so he's, of course, he's going to sign off and everything Bill wants to do. It's just a little off. Yeah, I mean, McVeigh Stafford, McCarthy, Dack, these are very close relationships. Shanahan, Brock Purdy, there's no question. There's a symmetry between offensive coaches and

quarterbacks and often defensive coaches. Mike Zimmer, Kirk Cousins didn't get along, Pete Carol Ross, Mack Jones, Belichick, Brian Flores and Tua was a disaster. Mike McDaniel and Tua are very close. So there's clearly these defensive coaches and rigidity struggle with quarterbacks. I want to ask you this, if they lose to Kansas City and it goes completely sideways down the stretch, I have read the GM said we're not firing McDermott, but things change week to week in this league. If they just lose to Kansas City. Kansas City, stumble down the stretch, finger pointing. Is there a chance?

Because if a small market, they tend to give chances a little longer rope to coaches. They just do. That's just Green Bay. You've covered them both in Buffalo. Is there a chance, McDermott, if it went sideways, would get fired? So it's Terry Paguerreux decision. He's the owner. And Sean McDermott and Brandon Bean are, you know, kind of joined at the hip here contractually.

And I remember Sean McDermott when he came in, he was that one voice. He was in charge and he brought in Brandon Bean to be his GM. I'll say this, Colin, just as an aside, to a man, everyone, a player, a coach who had very, very critical things to say about the head coach Sean McDermott. It's the opposite with Brandon Bean. I think that he puts out a lot of fires behind the scenes that nobody sees. He was the driving force behind drafting Josh Allen. He's built a roster that's good enough to win a Super Bowl. So I just found that to be interesting.

I think that he would be somebody that you want around to turn this thing around. But at the heart of the NFL, as you know, and you just put it perfect, it's hard to get that quarterback and head coach combination. And they might have had that possibility with Dave all before. And I think it's okay for the Buffalo Bills. And this is only Terry Pagula can make this decision. Right, because division titles, 10 win seasons. You're going to get that with Sean McDermott, Josh Allen, and the current setup. But if the goal is Super Bowls, you can't proceed like this head coach does on the sideline late in games.

You can't look up at that clock, see 20 seconds and think, man, what could go wrong here? What could go wrong? Oh, Josh threw an interception early in the game. Let's just take a deal. You've got to be bold. You've got to think, wow, look at that Kyle Shanahan coaching tree. It's branched out there to Miami now. It's gone to Houston.

Maybe Bobby Sloick would be an answer. Right? Look around the NFL of Ben Johnson. Oppressed Taylor, Frikeleham. There's tons of possibilities. This would instantly be the number one coaching job

in the NFL. The opportunity to coach Josh Allen, you kidding me? Coaches would sell their souls for that chance. So I think it's a little different than when they're hiring Dick Geron and those guys.

Does the owner get to that point? Does he see Josh Allen at 27, see his game, see the Super Bowl window, and want to get that proactive? That's his decision. So I said when great people leave, I mean, Miami lost Amarino, they didn't recover forever. I mean, two was like the next great, the last, really the first guy since that put up Pro Bowl numbers.

Elway leaves Denver. They can't, they can't fix it. So if you look at great quarterbacks in the history of the league, even when Farve left and Aaron Rogers took over, they were six and ten the first year. So there was a wake, right? And then Farve two years later was with the Vikings, and the Vikings were great. So usually, almost always, when a star coach or a quarterback leaves, not only do they succeed, Harbaugh left the Niners into the tank. Michigan football went from five wins to ten the next year.

Brady leaves New England slowly into the tank. Brady wins a Super Bowl. So Aaron got hurt, so we can't blame him for the Jets mess. But Green Bay is better right now than they were a year ago with Aaron already. McCarthy's crushing. Devonte Adams led the NFL in touchdown catches last year with the race. first year without Aaron. Everybody's crushing without Aaron.

Nobody disputes his talent, but there's a lack of connectability that the leadership thing, little bit of a void, little bit of a hole. There's no wake for Aaron Rogers. Marino, Far for a year, Brady, Manning, all these guys. There's a wake. Not do they just crush it where they go. People are reeling and bailing water when they leave. Aaron, Packers are better.

Right now, today. Look at that team off the Kansas City win. They are better than they were a year ago. That's something. J. Mack with a news. No, no, no, no, no. Turn on the news. This is the herd line news.

This is just bonkers. I don't get it, but Trevor Lawrence may play this weekend, Colin. Weird. I turned to practice yesterday after that ugly high ankle spray where his teammates stepped on his ankle. It looked gruesome. I thought he was maybe done for like four weeks. He couldn't walk up the tunnel. He was so ginger.

I mean, he was barely moved. So Doug Peters. and said this morning that Trevor Lawrence will be a game-time decision against the Browns. Colin, this sounds like coaching malpractice. They're down to their third string left tackle against the Browns and Miles Garrett. And that Browns defense at home, you even pointed out during. It's the best in the league by far. This would be putting Lawrence in a bad spot.

But remember Lawrence wasn't supposed to play on Thursday against the Saints way back this season? And everybody's like, oh, you got to bet the Saints, bet the Saints. Lawrence plays, he's fine. But that was indoors against the Saints who their defense isn't like the Browns. I'm stunned. Lawrence hasn't missed a game since he's been drafted. My Brown's three ticket, not looking good if Trevor Lawrence plays, obviously. I think it's fine if they still don't.

He's not 100%. They don't have Christian Kirk. They're on a third string tackle. It's hard to score when you have your starters in Cleveland. And also Cleveland's defense kind of got rocked last week. A little bit of humiliated. I mean, the Rams really had a very, very good second half against the Brown. So they're in no mood.

That defense will be all. All buttoned up. Looks like Denzel Ward will be back to lock up Ridley. I don't know, man. I'm still on the Browns, but anyways. Let's get to the NBA where the Pacers beat the bucks yesterday. I had to text you during this game because it was crazy. Yana scored 37, but the story was Tyrese Halliburton.

Holy cow, this kid looks incredible, Colin. I mean, 27 points, 15 assists, zero turnovers. Here's what Yana said after the loss. The talent level that we have is incredible. But we have to be more organized. Nobody's going to give you nothing. Like sometimes I feel like we expect just because we have great players out there that Tyrese Halliburton or Miles Turner or Ney Smith or by the hill we just give us the game.

Like, no, we have to be better. We have to go out there and take it. You know, at the end of the day, like, I think we are great players. But if we don't go out there and compete, they're not going to respect us. You know, they play their best against us. I think he, you know, he signed an extension with them. They got Dame, but he has gotten a little more critical of the organization. He has.

You can do that when you're one of the best players. I mean, he was just a nice, happy-go-lucky kid, but, like, he points the criticism back of the organization. They can't defend the perimeter without Drew Holliday. They just cannot. I mean, they're hemorrhaging points. The Pacers were just going up and down the floor to scoring of will. Yeah. I don't.

This Buck's team, I'm not sold this December, but. They also offensively, Middleton, Dame, Brooke Lopez, Janice, I've watched them play probably five times. I've seen them once be great, but they're not, it doesn't feel like Boston. Boston meshes pretty well together. I think the Lakers actually sometimes can mesh really well together. Denver obviously does.

Philadelphia, I think, this year, Harden meshes. When I watch Milwaukee, I don't still figuring it out, right? Yeah, they're not there. It's your turn, my turn, your turn, my turn. That never works. Middleton hasn't been the same player since the injuries. He's a shell of himself. Final story is the Lakers 40-point blowout of the

Pelicans last night. So they'll meet the Pacers in the final. Head coach Willie Green of the Pelican said the team had a lack of competitive spirit in the loss and Zion Williamson, who was quite bad, agree. I got to be better. I got to be more aggressive, finding my shot. I do more things to get my team going. I think I was too laid back tonight, and I just can't do that.

And defensively, I got to be better. I have a problem where I literally just try to hunt the best shot possible every time. But, you know, my teammates, they expect more for me. I expect more for myself and I gotta just trust my game I just gotta be more aggressive I think if I'm more aggressive then that energy would definitely carry over

That Zion J'amaranq class About two years ago We thought it was magic And it's like I think Major Red Flags was Zion's personality He always looks like he's a bit heavy to me Yeah you know two years ago It was like 200 hamburgers ago

Like I'm not making fun of them too harsh here But Zion looks out of shape You have two rebounds in like 25 minutes. Yeah, he's just not. There's just a lot of stuff going. And I understand this league has got a bunch of 19-year-old kids, and they get overwhelmed.

It's hard. You know, NFL, you go to college for four or five years. A lot of NFL players are married very early. Like, you know, I understand it. I'm not, but it's just I just don't. And that's the downside to what college basketball and international basketball can hand you at times. These international players come in to me really mature,

like Wembe and Janus. They come in really focused, dialed in. loyal, mature. No off-court drama with Luka or any of these guys. It's just like Zion and John Moran just feels like it's just so dramatic game-to-game week to week and they're struggling with commitment. You know, it's something. And maybe we're just asking too much of young people to come into this league, the world's best basketball league, and not only have their game right, but have their money right.

When you pay them $100 million, you're asking too much to clean up your act and don't mess around with strippers and adult film stars and, you know, You got your way out of the league? Like La Zion is a walking screw up right now. And I'm not being too harsh, man. The numbers, he has cratered offensive rebounds, boards, defense. He's not doing anything. No, he's just not as committed.

But, yeah, I mean, at some point now, he's not a rookie. He's been here three or four years. Paying him like a franchise superstar. Yeah, I don't know what his market is. I think it's very rare. Like, you either have it or you don't. You're focused or you don't. I mean, if you go look at the Kobe's and the MJs and the birds and the magics,

and they were, they came into this league ready to crush. You didn't have to talk him into it. I feel like with Zion, sometimes they're talking him into being focused. Does he love hoops, does he love it? I don't know. Jay Mack with the news. Well, that's the news. And thanks for stopping by.

Listen, maybe Browning unlocked some strangeness there, not throwing down the field. Let's keep it safe and simple. They got Chase. They got Higgins. They got Boyd. Mixon starting to get going.

Colts just ruled out Jonathan Taylor again. Colts got super lucky. Okay. I get to Titans last week with the implosion on special teams. Missed extra point. Two block punts. I think the Bengals win this. I know we have a producer here who loves the Bengals.

Yeah. They could get to the playoffs with Jake Browning, Colin. That's in play. They had to win this one. I think they get the W. Tomorrow's headlines today. Jags at the Brown. Now, I love Cleveland in this spot.

Well, you know, sometimes we agree. I think we're like 87% when we agree, right? The headline will be in flak cold blood. Browns bagged, prized jaguars. How about this matchup? Another backup quarterback's galore. Flackle was sensational for most of the game. I got to say, I'm not buying the Trevor Lawrence might play.

I just, I don't believe that. We'll see. If it's CJ Bethard, I love the Browns. I think it's a smash spot. I don't, he couldn't move the football. He was atrocious on Monday night. Now it's a short week to prepare for a great defense at home. Yes.

Miles Garrett kind of didn't really do much last week. Should be better this week. And Dino Ward expected to return. I like Cleveland here. So do I. And by the way, the Jags are down to their second or third left tackle. Third string left tackle. Against Miles Garrett off a bad week.

Not great. Not great. Tomorrow's headline today. Tasty Bills Chiefs. Yeah, we've been selling the bills all season. I mean, back in the summer, I said, Super Bowl window closed. You were off them early. It's weird. Everybody's so off them. You know what time it is. Time to get back on them. The headline will be, forget about it. Bill's Mafia. C. Casey. That image is something. I got to work on my forget about it. I just, I like Buffalo here. Hey, by the way, McDermott? You know, he's taking heat this week. Six and O in his career off a buy. I mean, teams got healthy again. Dawson Knox is back. Their last game against the Eagles, they were down two starters in the secondary. They're healthy and back. It's a fun game.

And KC., by the way, in the last 20 minutes, Isaiah Pacheco out for this game, their star running back. You could argue last few weeks he's been their best skill position player. Kelsey, kind of not doing much lately. Jerich McKinnon in line to start. Like, Kansas City is kind of walking wounded and Colin. If you look at their yards per play, you know, that's one of the sharp metrics in gambling. They were first last year, first two years ago.

They've fallen to eight this year. The offense is not clicking. And you want to go remove some of the big plays they've had. They've really been bottled up. There's some warning signs the Chiefs are in trouble. I didn't realize this. Patrick Mahomes has never played a road playoff game.

That's going to happen this year for the first time. He's never played one. They're always at home. Interesting. Give me the bills. He is good off a buy, though. Indeed. Mahomes is good off.

Well, he's not off. You mean off a loss. Off a loss. He's very good off a lot. All right. You're getting off the dumpster diving here. Tomorrow's headlines today. I stayed away from this one.

I thought, Eagles at the Cowboys, everybody is jumping off. the Eagle bandwagon. It's not totally that. I'll try to explain. This was the first bet I made Sunday night at 3. It's 3.5 now everywhere, and that should be a big sign.

You know, they refuse to move it down to 3. The headline will be dactose intolerant. Philly left crying over spilled milk. It's just, you know, the Eagles are trending very poorly. Colin, outgained in five straight games. I know. Like, that doesn't happen to a really good team. I think they're 10 and 2 with like a plus 41.

scoring margin. Which is weird. That's not great. And they're a very good team, obviously. The season's not over. I think they lose this game. I don't think they'll get crushed the way the Niners beat up on them, but I can see this being a 10, 13 point Eagles win. Eagles lost.

And then next week is when you want to buy the Eagles when everybody's off them off the two losses. This is our tough schedule stretch. You know, the schedule was easy early and now it's really just been a rugged stretch. Well, it's also they've faced, you know, they face the Cowboys defense, then the Chiefs defense. then the Bill's defense, then the Niners' defense,

then this is the Cowboys defense. Again, that's the one thing that gave me pause. Because at three and a half, I thought Philly was the side, and I'm thinking, that is five straight weeks of really talented defenses. One concern for Dallas is this McCarthy thing. Like, you're a big schedule guy. I love to stay on my schedule. I'm at max efficiency.

I mean, the dude had a medical procedure in the middle of the week, like a serious one. Yeah. You know, it's like some cause for concern. If Dallas loses this, you know, major sirens going off, that this team's a fraud, but I think they, I think they handle their business. All right. There's some good games this week. Finally, Monday night, Titans travel to Miami. What say you?

So you laughed at me last week for mostly ignoring Monday Night Football Games, and I was like, well, let me cram one on the card. This kind of feels like one of those mortgage payment plays. The headline will be Tactua artist, Dolphins leave permanent mark on AFC. Tua kind of looks a little like me, like Russell. I don't know. I can't get that often. I will say this.

You've been a Miami supporter for two months. They got five wins by 14 plus, okay? And they're seven and one against the spread as a favorite. Yeah, they've lost when they've stepped up in class, but they were underdogs. The one non-cover was against the Raiders where they had just multiple turnovers. This Tennessee team, we don't know if Derek Henry's going to play. Jeffrey Simmons, the great defensive tackle, their best defensive player, don't know if he's going to go, got hurt last week. Like, nothing looks good.

Tennessee has gotten throttled on the road a couple times this season. They've been plucky at home. They should have won last week. but I don't see how you can't take Miami. Now they have a couple defensive injuries. There's a chance they, Javan Holland, let's not rush it back. They lose a kid Baker.

Maybe we just power down a couple guys if they're kind of banged up and we get them back for the Jets next week in a game. They should win, but it's a conference game. I still think they put it on them here, 35, 13, 35, 10, something like that. What's interesting, you have games this week, which will make for a very interesting Monday show. So if Buffalo beats Kansas City, they're back.

And Kansas City is. If Philadelphia beats Dallas, oh boy, oh boy. Because remember, the last time Dallas played, Seattle moved the ball up and now, and Seattle's offense had been struggling. So Dallas had some huge issues in the back end of their defense. They tend to be very aggressive. So it's one of those, you know, one of the things I like about the NFL, they call it overreaction. Monday, overreact.

But there are some seminal games here that they're going to make, like, if Buffalo loses, like if the season's over. It's over. But I will tell you the team that you, and one of the things we may get dragged for this, but new information is a new opinion. Green Bay is a really interesting team. So they've beaten what we consider quality rosters, Kansas City, Detroit, and the Chargers. Now, Chargers, after they won, we said, let's slow down.

They didn't just beat Green Bay. They hammered them. They didn't just beat Kansas City. They controlled them. If they win this weekend, you start looking at that Green Bay roster. And I'm serious on this. They are going to be a team in the NFC that could play Atlanta. Well, here's where it gets really scary.

If the Lions stumble against Chicago. And I think they will. They might. I bet Chicago. I think they got a chance. And the Packers went on Monday. The division suddenly is in play for Green Bay. And that's crazy saying out loud when the Lions had locked it up.

When's the last time an elite quarterback left a team and they didn't at least go down a little? they almost never get better. Green Bay is better with Aaron gone. You got to go to what, Montana to Young? That was kind of injury related, wasn't it? Yeah. I mean, that was like 435 years. But, you know, I mean, if an Aikman leaves or a Bradshaw leaves or a...

And I mean, we put, like, when Brett Farrve left, even with Aaron, they went six and ten. Yeah, Peyton got injured and they were like one in 15, but then they get Andrew Locke and make the playoffs. But there's almost always awake. this Green Bay team, when I watched them for the third week in a row, I watched every snap. I'm like, this is not a mirage. These are young, athletic, twitchy receivers. Jordan's got time to throw. Their defense, which James Jones talked about, it's got a lot of first-round dudes,

and they're healthy. Rishon Gary now playing well. I don't think it's a fluke. Green Bay, and again, it's new information. They were awful offensively five weeks ago. They are not. And these young teams like Houston and Green Bay, they get progressively better.

Old teams, you know, you get banged up. Young team, Houston Green Bayer teams, they are significantly better than a month ago. Young players getting better with very good young coaches. All right, we'll see you Monday. Have a great weekend. Jay Mack and everybody, it's the third.
