This is an I-Heart podcast.
Guaranteed Human.
Another podcast from some SNL, late-night comedy guy, not quite.
Unhumor me with Robert Smygel and friends.
Me and hilarious guests from Bob Odenkirk to David Letterman
help make you funnier.
This week, my guest, SNL's Mikey Day and head writer, Streeter Seidel,
help an a cappella band with their between songs banter.
Where does your group perform?
We do some retirement homes.
Those people are starving for banter.
Listen to humor me with Robert Smigel
and friends on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts.
Imagine an Olympics where doping is not only legal, but encouraged.
It's the enhanced games.
Some call it grotesque.
Others say it's unleashing human potential.
Either way, the podcast's Superhuman documented it all, embedded in the games and with the athletes
for a full year.
Within probably 10 days, I'd put on 10 pounds.
I was having trouble stopping the muscle growth.
Listen to Superhuman on the IHard Radio app,
Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts.
A win is a win.
A win is a win.
I don't care what I'm saying.
Yep, that's me, Clifford Taylor the 4th.
You might have seen the skits, my basketball and college football journey,
or my career in sports media.
Well, now I'm bringing all of that excitement to my brand new podcast,
The Clifers Show.
This is a place for raw, unfilled conversations with athletes,
creators, and voices that not only deserve to be heard,
but celebrated.
So let's get to it.
Listen to the Clifford show on the Iheart radio app,
Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcast.
And for more behind the scenes,
follow at Clifford and at TikTok's podcast network on TikTok.
On the Look Back at it podcast.
For 1979, that was a big moment for me.
84's big to me.
I'm Sam J.
And I'm Alex English.
Each episode, we pick a year,
unpack what went down,
and try to make sense of how we survived it.
With our friends, fellow comedians,
and favorite authors.
Like Mark Lamont Hill on the 80s.
84 was a wild year. I don't think there's a more important year for black people.
Listen to look back at it on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts.
Thanks for listening to The Heard podcast. Be sure to catch us live every weekday from 12 to 3 Eastern, 9 to noon Pacific on Fox Sports Radio and FS1.

We're listening to Fox Sports Radio.
All right, welcome back.
Hour number three of the herd.
Obviously, I'm not Colin.
I'm Chris Brousard, and I'm joined by my man, Jason McIntyre,
aka J.Mack.
And we are live from the Fox Sports Radio Studios.
We've been having a lot of fun.
Hopefully you have as well.
And believe me, folks, the fun will continue.
We got Eddie House NBA champion.
and now a Fox Sports Radio NBA analyst joining us in about 20 minutes.
But before we get to Eddie House, J. Mack, let's go to Golden State.
And Rick Buecker, FS1 NBA analyst, I've known Rick, we worked together at the old network.
I've known Rick for decades.
And he was on the show I co-hosts First Things First yesterday.
and he talked about some of the reporting he's done on this Golden State Kevin Durant's situation,
and he had some intriguing news.
Here it is.
I was in Las Vegas last week for Summer League,
and someone from Katie's camp told me that Steph Curry was among the stars around the league
who had reached out to KD to find out exactly what he was thinking.
And the point being made that Steph was not opposed to KD in spite of the way things ended,
KD coming back to the Warriors, that Steph's focus is purely on winning a fifth ring.
And one of the motivations in winning a fifth ring is because it would give him one more than LeBron James.
All right. He said a lot there. Let's not get into the machinations of what it would take to get Kevin Durant, right, to go and say, because that's complicated.
But here's what I want to ask you. And we started off this show in the first hour talking about a reunion or potential reunion.
from Kevin Durant's perspective.
Now, Jay Mack, I want to look at a potential reunion from Steph Curry's perspective.
Should he want this?
Well, Chris, you always want to get better, right?
And obviously, Kevin Durant, one of the best players in the league,
I say he's a top seven player in the NBA.
Of course he's going to make Golden's.
Yeah.
What, you think he's one?
No, but I don't think he's seven.
He's top seven.
I think he's top four at least.
Listen, I'll just say head to head against Jason Tatum in the first round,
he was outplayed in every facet offensively and defensively.
But a lot of that was scheme.
Are you saying Jason Tatum's better than him?
I think that's a complicated question.
Who would I rather have right now?
I'd rather have Jason Tatum.
He's a much younger.
Is Jason Tatum better right now than Kevin Durant?
Yeah.
I would take Tatum.
I think Tatum's a better player right now.
Kevin Durant has played 90 games.
He's played 90 games in the last three years, bro.
This is not 2017 KD.
Obviously, he's still awesome.
He's an incredible talent
offensively, defensively.
Coming off at Achilles, man, that's a major injury.
Are you saying he can't play more than 45 games a year?
It sounds like that's what you're saying.
I don't know. Do you have a crystal ball into Kevin Durant's future health?
He turned 34 in September.
You might.
You might.
I'm not assuming. Take that out of the issue.
Don't put injury in the issue.
Because we're not talking about that Anthony Davis who's never been able to be able to...
AD, baby, always down.
Is Kevin Durant at this moment in time,
Jason Tatum, when they play, Jason Tatum's better than Kevin Durant.
I'm giving you a chance to weasel your way out of that.
I don't need to weasel my way out of anything.
You can keep assuming.
You know what happens when you assume.
You make an ass of you and me.
And that's what you're doing, assuming Durant's healthy.
Jason Tatum right now is...
Really?
Jason Tatum was first team all NBA, bro.
First team all NBA.
I'm crazy to assume Kevin Durant's going to be healthy.
Then what are we talking about?
Nobody should want him.
Nobody should want him for four years.
Well, it's pretty clear nobody does want him.
You just answered your own question.
Four years max money for Kevin Durant when he can't stay healthy.
Okay.
That's what you're saying.
Chris, you know when you buy a car.
I know you like to buy a new car.
You got a good job.
You make it some bank.
I actually am in the market.
Oh, boy.
Well, I'll just give you some advice.
It's going to be fresh.
When you buy a new car.
You drive it off the lot and the value of the car goes down.
Cars are a depreciating asset.
Kevin Durant right now, listen, an all-time great player.
Top 15 all-time.
He's still a great player.
You want him on your team right now.
But Kevin Durant, four years left on his deal, is a depreciating asset.
What is he going to look like, given the last three years?
We know it hasn't been pretty injury-wise.
What's it going to look like the next three?
We're trying to project ahead.
It can be a fool's errand.
but when you buy a car that's new, Chris, don't buy a new car.
By gently used, one or two years old.
That's where you find the value.
Kevin Durant is going to be 34 in September.
He can still just absolutely dominate at times.
But I'm just saying.
At times?
Yeah, at times.
Healthy matters.
He is still a phenomenal player.
He is phenomenal.
I'm not saying he's not.
But I'm just saying if the Warriors are out of you're like, oh, let's give up all our young superstars for KD.
No, I'm not doing that.
And the other thing, the other thing.
The other thing, let me just add this, Chris.
Where's the win for Kevin Durant going back there?
We know what the win is for Curry.
I'm asking you from Steph's perspective.
Curry's got nothing to proof.
Because enough of the foolishness.
Kevin Durant's not healthy.
Kevin Durant's not that good anymore.
Jason Taylor than Kevin Durant.
I don't even want to entertain that because it's nonsense.
I'm asking you, should Steph Curry,
especially the way you're talking about, KD?
like is Bradley Beal or something?
Should Steph Curry want KD back?
No.
No.
Steph Curry should not be calling Kevin Durant.
Now, the flip side of this is
the West is going to be tougher this year, Chris.
You can make all the excuses you want about the Warriors Championship people out there.
Well, the Nuggets were missing two stars,
and LeBron didn't make the playoffs,
and the Clippers did not have Kauai and Paul George and blah, blah, blah.
The West is going to be loaded next year.
As deep as it's ever been in NBA history.
Portland and Dame Lillard are like the 10.
10 seed at best.
Okay?
The West is loaded.
So Kevin Durant would help, but I am a believer in the young court.
Jordan Poole.
Andrew Wiggins.
Wiggins is in the perfect role as like a number three.
I mean, it is perfect.
You know who said that when he went there?
Yours truly.
Who?
Me.
I thought it was perfect for Andrew Wiggins.
Yeah, it was a great fit.
Congratulations.
You got one right, Chris.
Well done.
But the Warriors should not break up the young court.
I'm just saying that because I know you were probably ripping it.
No, I was not ripping him.
I like Andrew Wiggins.
I've always liked it.
What were you saying?
I've always liked it on tape, too, so don't lie.
The tweets are out there.
I got the podcast, TV, radio, whatever you want.
I'm saying, listen, it's an okay move.
It's better than DiAngelo Russell.
I wasn't championing.
DeAngelo Russell, he's not great.
But Andrew Wiggins, it fits perfectly.
Why would you break up this young court for Kevin Duran, who's 34 in September?
And by the way, he got in arguments with the entire team in his final year there.
He didn't want to be there.
And he ditched your ass, Curry.
to go ball with Kyrie Irving, which was an unmitigated disaster.
So if I'm Curry, bro, I love playing with you.
We had an all-time great team.
Enjoy your time in Brooklyn.
I'll catch you on the flip side.
I say Curry, I don't want him if I'm Curry.
Steph Curry should want him back.
He shouldn't beg him.
He shouldn't, you know, go out of his way.
Oh, oh, Kevin, we need.
No, none of that.
I just won a championship without you.
I'm with you there.
But if they have the opportunity,
and it makes sense to bring back Kevin Durant,
absolutely.
I mean, for Steph Curry, it should be about winning rings.
Now, there was a lot of talk about Steph being a top 10 player of all time now.
The only way to solidify that, the only way to move up in the list, if you will,
is to win more championships.
That's it.
Stop with this list.
It's not to win another MVP award.
It is to win more.
championships. He's already won two without Kevin Durant. He's a made man individually.
No one can ever say, I don't care if they win two more rings and Kevin Durant's the finals MVP.
No one can ever say he carried Steph because Steph is won two without him, not one, two.
So he's a made man. What is going to rise him up in the mythical, I'll give you that mythical list,
is winning more rings.
And Kevin Durant, for as much as Jason McIntyre
would lead you to believe he's washed.
I did not say.
He can't stay healthy.
He's a walking, you know,
a disaster waiting to happen.
He's not washed.
And Kevin Durant would give the Warriors
a better chance of winning the championship
next year and likely the next year after that.
And that's why I'm saying, yeah, Steph Curry, again, don't beg him, don't go out of the way if it doesn't happen big deal.
I'm good.
We're good.
But if we can get KD., sure.
Chris, you know what's a better option for Steph Curry elongating his career and winning more championships?
Not Kevin Durant.
Jordan Poole.
Steph Curry could take nights off.
Jordan Poole could come in.
He's a 20 to 25 point a game score, electric offensively.
Less of Curry, bro, means more.
championships. I'm just telling you right now,
there is no team, Chris, set up
for the future better in the league than the Golden State
Warriors. They have that bridge of a
bunch of young superstar core
potential. Pool,
Cominga, Wiseman, don't sleep on Moses Moody.
He's nice. Okay? Not that he tore up
Summer League. He's a great young player.
He's a guy's only like 20 years old.
If you can blend those young guys
with the veterans, Clay, Curry,
Draymond, I'll toss Looney in there
just out of respect for Kevon Looney.
I'm just telling you, that bridge,
keeps their window open longer than dumping some young guys
and adding Kevin Durant for maybe a one or two more year pop.
You can't tell me with a straight face
that Kevin Durant's going to be a dominant player
at the age of 37.
Given the miles he's got and his body frame
and the Achilles and all that,
you can't tell me he's going to be doing LeBron stuff
when he's 37 years old.
You just can't do that, Chris.
Actually, I think he'll still be a very productive player at that point.
His jump shot's not going anywhere.
his length isn't going anywhere.
His game is not based on athleticism.
You're right.
I mean, he's got to stay healthy, obviously.
And I like Jordan Poole.
And I like Jonathan Cominga and James Weissman.
Again, when Weissman was drafted, I thought it was a perfect pick.
Long, athletic, runs the floor, decent touch, which will get better.
Like, I like him.
I like all those young guys.
And you mentioned Moody.
But there is Jay Mack.
guarantee that, and to be honest, you would lean against believing that that group is going
to become the core of a championship team like Steph, Clay, and Drayman has.
Is it possible?
Sure.
But is it likely?
No.
Just because they're very good players.
And I think Camingo will be a star and I think Poole will be a star.
But Poole will never be Kevin Duran.
He'll never be what Kevin Duran is.
right now, let alone Kevin Durant at his best.
So Jordan Poole gave him 13 points, my man, in the finals.
Jordan Poole gave him, you know, it wasn't perfect.
He's not the perfect player yet, or, you know, he's not perfect, obviously.
And so I like Poole, but if I would give him up to get KD.
And look, J.Mack, and I know you love these warriors.
You said erroneously earlier in the show, but you said,
they're the best team ever.
16 to one in the playoffs.
Best record ever.
That's fine.
It's factual.
They're not the best team.
They would eviscerate Jordan and Pippet.
It would be laughable how bad that would be a beatdown.
4-1-0-4-2.
You just spent 15 minutes talking about how Kevin Durant struggled against physical defense.
33-year-old Kevin Durant is not what he was on the 2017 Warriors.
He was 28 in his prime.
He was an apex predator, unstoppable.
He was T-Rex.
He destroyed.
LeBron head to head. Go look at the fourth quarter
stats, Bussart. I know you haven't, but go look at him.
Kevin Durant put LeBron
in a body bag in those finals.
LeBron and Kyrie, go look it up.
The numbers don't lie.
I mean, listen, and I love LeBron.
Jay Mack. Let me get
a word in edgewise.
Go ahead. Go for it.
He didn't destroy
LeBron one-on-one.
He was playing with Steph Curry
and Clay Thompson.
The defense was focused on Steph Curry.
Sure. KD was great.
All he had to do was do what he does best.
Sink jump shots.
All this is talking about, oh, did you see KD come down?
What was it, game four, and hit that jumper in LeBron's face with the pressure of the world.
On pressure the world, they're up 2-1.
I mean, come on.
It's 2-1.
They had the superior team by a mile.
Stop it with the KD carried the team on his back and smash LeBron James one-on-one.
Stop it.
That's why he got the pushback.
And I wasn't one of him.
Like you to kill him when he went to go and say, I didn't kill him.
I did.
I did not.
But don't sit here.
I didn't kill him because of cats like you.
Because I knew.
I said it.
On TV, moments after it happened, I said, you know what?
In two years when Kevin Durant's got two NBA titles and at least one finals MVP,
he ended up having two, I said all the people killing him right.
now will be singing his praises.
And I'm not going to play the hypocrite.
So I'm fine with Katie doing it.
And all those people that were killing him
played the hypocrite and then praised him when he won championships.
All right.
So here's my point, J. Mack.
The Golden State Warriors, who you said already are the best team ever.
They have an opportunity with Kevin Durant to surpass
the Showtime Lakers or equal them at first, right, with five rings,
and then they could maybe equal the Jordan Bulls.
Who doesn't want that legacy?
That's what I'm talking about,
and that's what I'm looking for if I'm the Golden State Warriors.
They've shown they will draft smart,
they will groom another generation of players,
and they'll be ready.
But I'm telling you, is Steph Curry, again, don't beg,
and he won't.
But if he should welcome Kevin Durand.
If he wants to go there.
Those overrated 90s bulls.
Oh, my gosh.
Maybe.
During the expansion era.
Yeah, let's do that.
We'll talk about it in the break.
All right.
Here we go.
It is the, not the eye.
I was about to say it's the eye.
That's my show right here on Fox Sports Radio,
7 to 10 Eastern Monday through Friday.
This is the herd with Chris Brousard
and Jason.
McIntyre, and it is, we are moving on.
Eddie House is next.

Do you remember when Diana Ross double-taped Little Kim's boobs at the VMAs?
Or when Kanye said that George Bush didn't like black people.
I know what you're thinking.
What the hell does George Bush got to do a little kill?
Well, you can find out on the Look Back at It podcast.
I'm Sam J.
And I'm Alex English.
Each episode, we pick it here, unpack what went down, and try to make sense of how we survived it.
Including a recent episode with Mark Lamont Hill, waxing all about crack in the 80s.
To be clear, 84 is big to me, not just because of crack.
I'm down to talk about crack on day, but just so you all know.
I mean, at this point, Mark, this is the second episode where we've discussed cracks.
I'm starting to see that there's a through line.
We also have AIDS on the table right now.
Thank you finishing that sentence.
Yes.
I don't think there's a more important year for black people.
Really?
Yeah.
For me, it's one of the most important years for black people in American history.
Listen to look back at it on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts.

And we're still chasing it,
and we don't know when we've done enough.
Because people scoreboard watch.
Life becomes about wins and losses.
Steve Burns, Dustin Ross.
because you find it important to be a good person while you hear on earth?
Or are you a good person because you're afraid?
Because that's two different intentions, bro.
Absolutely.
And that's two different levels of trust.
I want you to just really be a good person.

Welcome back to The Herd.
I'm Chris Broussard.
my man Jason McIntyre alongside me.
We're in the Fox Sports Radio Studios.
And our next guest is an NBA champion
and a Fox Sports Radio NBA analyst.
Our man, Eddie House.
Eddie, what's up, man?
Eddie House.
Is Eddie House there?
One of my favorite shooters in recent NBA history.
You know, he could drop like 30, like it was nothing.
And I can't wait to ask Eddie House
about Jason Tatum versus Kevin Durant.
Oh, okay.
You know, I played in Boston.
Yeah, no, I'm going to let you have that first.
That can be the first question.
I just, listen, again, I don't want to look at historical Kevin Durant, who's a great player.
I've said it.
He's top 15.
He was close to top 10.
I'm watching right now.
He was, listen, and I'm not talking two years ago.
I'm not talking two years ago when he torts Milwaukee in that round and look historic.
Why not?
Why aren't you?
Because you say injuries are a factor that he was coming back from the Achilles at that point, too.
And he was amazing.
But guess what?
This year, what happened this year?
I thought the Achilles' injury took so much out of him.
Well, who were we going to blame this year?
Where was he?
He was great, but he was not transcendent.
I blame a fantastic defensive scheme and physical defense that shows me in the 90s.
He would have, you know, it would have been a terrible.
Oh, stop with this 90s garbage.
The 90s is the most overrated NBA era ever.
The Haitianography that goes on pumping up these guys, which was like, dump it in the post,
91, 90 final scores.
Get out of here with this.
It was the expansion era, Chris.
They added six new teams.
I know you weren't watching basketball at that time, J-Mack,
so I'm going to let the ignorance slide.
Is Eddie any houses here?
I'm in the building.
I'm sorry you had to hear that nonsense, Eddie.
Before, J-Mack has a big question for you,
but I want to ask you about this because we were talking about it earlier,
myself and J-Mack.
Do you think the Warriors, now they got a nice young group,
of players, right? Kaminga,
Pool, Wiseman,
Moody, should they
be willing to break up that young group
to get Kevin Durant?
No.
Wow.
It's simple as that.
No. You know why?
You know why?
It's because Kevin Durant
came and Kevin Durant went.
They championships came
and they championships came back again
without him. Why would
I jeopardize
as great of a play? I think,
is going to be really good in his league.
I think Kaminga's going to be good once he starts figuring out the offense
and how to play within that offense with the players he has.
Why would you give up on 22, 23 young players, right,
to bring in a 34-year-old guy that maybe could deliver you something,
but it's just going to cause a whole lot of, let's just say this.
Everywhere he's went, Kevin Durant, since he's left Oklahoma City,
it's just been something going.
It's been something or something.
even when he was in Oklahoma City.
It's always been something.
And as great of a player as he is,
if I'm an organization,
I've already won a title with him.
We've seen what it done.
We want a title before him.
We want a title after him.
We want a title with him.
We don't need to see that experiment again.
I would not give up on a future that could see possibly more rings,
and it really shows that it's this organization.
We don't need Kevin.
I don't think the Warriors need Kevin Durant as much as Kevin Durant needs the Warriors.
Boom.
Boom. Roasted you, Broussard.
All right, Eddie, let's get to the next question.
Let's get to the next one.
And this one hurt Broussard last segment.
Eddie, if you agree with this one, I'm going to start questioning your sanity.
Listen, Eddie, you were in Boston.
You had a front row seat for the Boston sweep, broom action of Kyrie and KD.
And, you know, Chris is like, well, is KD still a top five player?
I was like, he can be, but he's not right now.
No, I think Jason.
No, you didn't say that.
You said he's the seventh best player.
I said top seven.
And I believe Jason Tatum right now is.
better than Kevin Durant.
They went head to head in that series.
Tatum was better at both.
Stop it.
I'm going to stop you right now, Jay.
Jake, you know, and you're my partner.
You know, you're my partner.
But no, no way.
Because, you know, I'm going to tell you why.
If you were to drop Kevin Durant into that NBA finals against the Warriors
and took Jason Tatum out, the Celtics are raising that banner number 18.
I don't know about all that.
It is no offense.
I know about all, man.
You're right.
It's no offense about it.
The one thing about it is that we know what Kevin Durant is going to bring.
I think at that particular moment, and Jason Tatum is a great young player.
I love everything about him, you know, everything about it.
But I feel like at times the moment was too big.
And sometimes it happens like that.
You don't know what you're in until you're in it.
And then when you end it, you're like, whoa, this is different.
Let me figure a way out.
And then before you try to figure a way, it's over.
And then you're like, okay, next time I get in that,
predicament, I'm not going to be like that. I'm better off now than I was when I started. And I think
that's what Jason Tatum is going to be. I mean, we've seen it with LeBron James in that 20,
at 2011 finals where it was like, whoa, sometimes he looked like a deer in the headlight,
but then that following year, that following year after that, and the following year after that,
and the, you know, it was just like it was nonstop after that. And he had to figure out sometimes
you got to take a bump on side of the head
to know how not to take a lick.
And I think that's what happened.
Yeah, J-Mack needs a bump on side of the head after that.
I'm with you, man.
Like the cartoon, how many lumps do you want?
Do, please?
All right, look, you are in Phoenix, Eddie.
We know they match the offer for DeAndre A.
Now, I've got two questions about this situation for you.
My first is strictly from a basketball standpoint.
point, do you like it?
I don't think that, I don't know why it took so long.
I mean, a guy that averaged 17 and 10 that helped you get to the finals that played above
and beyond what anybody expected to get to the finals against Milwaukee and actually
played well.
He just was put up against a guy like Janus.
And I mean, who was stopping Janus during those playoff series?
Nobody was.
Had him on an island trying to guard him at the top of the key one-on-one.
It's tough to do.
It's guy could put the ball on the floor.
He's seven feet tall.
finished at the rim, he can shoot three.
DeAndre A was put in a tough situation in the finals,
but getting to the finals did everything that you were one of the number one
player, I mean, a number one draft pick to do.
It gets better every single year.
He's 17 and 10 on the career.
I don't see why they did just get that done before last year, okay,
and not have him feeling like I'm playing for another contract.
And then not want to extend him and think about it, what they did.
They extended Miles Bridges before they did him.
This is the number one overall pick.
So what message are you sending to that player?
And I feel like that was kind of like the demise of the Phoenix Sun.
This playoff run was there was a lot of unanswered questions looming about DeAndre Aiden.
And then it was, you could hear the rumor mill was saying, does he play hard enough?
We don't know if he's mature enough.
Well, I mean, look how young he is.
I mean, you got to expect him to be a chemo Lodgewine when he comes out at 19 years old.
It's not going to happen.
but I think that was the biggest issue.
I'm not sure if they're matching it,
but I'm not sure that he'll still be here.
Well, see, I was going to add quickly, J-Mack, if I might, do you,
okay, so you think they could end up trading him.
Obviously, it won't be before January,
and he has veto power over any trade over the next year.
But I was going to ask you, do they need to do a lot of smoothing things over,
a lot of massaging, because as you said, they kind of disrespected him.
Well, 133 million
The massage is a whole lot of things
He wanted more, though, Eddie.
Yeah, at the end of the day,
well, I mean, nobody was willing to give him more.
Phoenix really wasn't willing to give him anything, right?
And then so the first team at the offering won 133,
they're like, we'll match that.
Cool.
You know, because maybe he was actionable,
but what we know is what he got,
and 133 million would smooth out a whole lot of things.
He's going to walk into that building,
understanding that he is getting compensated
for what he has been doing for being a number one pick and living up to those standards.
Because we've seen a lot of, let's not forget, we've seen a lot of guys go number one
that ain't put up no numbers.
And at the end of the day, they out the league.
So, you know, shout out to him for sticking with it because it's not easy when you're
going through those type of thing and still be able to go out and perform and put up his
numbers regardless of what everybody else is saying.
People want him to be somebody that he's not.
People need to just accept the fact that this is who he is and this is what he brings to the table.
Now, looking forward, can he get better?
Yes, he can.
Everybody can.
And he's so young.
I think a lot of times we want to just give up on these young players so fast because you expect instantaneously.
That's the social media world.
You're expecting it to happen right now.
It takes time for people to develop.
And I think he's been developing every single year.
Sun's had an embarrassing Game 7 home loss by a million points to Luca and the Mavs.
Even though they're bringing back Aiton, he doesn't seem happy about it.
You know, Eddie, I look at the West.
I see the Clippers are going to be there.
The Nuggets are going to be there.
Mavs are better than the Suns.
Golden State won the championship.
I mean, are the Suns even top six in the West next year?
I mean, I don't even talk about like the Pelicans who didn't have Zion and push them.
Stop with the Pelicans.
They're better than the Pelicans, okay?
Will they be battling with the Clippers?
Yes, they'll be battling with the Clippers.
Do I think that Luca and Dallas caught them in a...
vulnerable spot, not being, not understanding like this is a real grind after playing in the NBA
finals, having some of those guys having a very short off season, then getting right back into it.
I think they'll be better than Dallas next year. Obviously, the Warriors, I don't think that
they're better than the Warriors. I think that the Warriors are retooled. To me, the Warriors are the
favorites to win it all next year again. And I mean, I think that they literally can go back to
back. And I'm not just saying that. I'm saying I feel like
Steph Curry has put himself on a different level to where
we've been talking about all these other players. He probably is
the best player in the NBA right now, the most unguaritable
player. We talk about seven foot tall Kevin Durant can get his shot off
for anybody. Well, we're talking about a six three guy that can get
his shot off, can finish at the rim with either hand, that can pass
with either hand, that can make the right play, that understands how to play
basketball, and he plays winning basketball. And he's on.
selfish. He might be the best player in the league right now.
Top 10 all time before you go? Yes.
And there's no doubt. I watched it up close and personal, and I've seen how he goes about
his work. Let's not say how he gets his shot. You have to be in phenomenal shape and to be in
that greatest shape late in the season and getting targeted on defense and not really giving up
as much as he was. When people thought that he, that was his weakness, he definitely is a top
10 player, no doubt about it.
That's our man, Eddie House, the NBA
champion. Eddie, after a rough start
with that first question about
KD to the Warriors, that was
a spectacular interview.
I love the way you son,
Jay MacG. You bodybacked.
No, man, actually, son, you two on the first question.
I just didn't roll with you on that, with the KD
one. Yeah, I let that
go. I let that go.
All right, man.
Have a great weekend.
All right, take care, brothers.
Yep.
All right, and now let's go to Ryan Music for the herd headline news.
No, no, no, no, turn on the news.
This is the herd line news.
Always good to have Eddie House here.
Always a great NBA conversation.
But let's keep the NBA conversation going a little bit here.
James Harden had a disappointing season last year, basically quitting on the Nets before
getting traded to the 76ers, where he then came up short multiple times in the playoffs alongside Joel Embed.
In an interview with Ote Time, he explained what's been holding him back.
Quote, these last two years, I've been dealing with some hamstring issues, which are nothing to play with.
So I'm taking this summer as an opportunity to do something for me to make sure that I get back to the elite level that I know I can be at and that I will be at.
So that's priority number one.
Chris, do you think Hardin will return to that elite status next season?
Well, look, here's the answer.
James Hart, everybody's killing.
Oh, he's not the same.
he's not what he used to be.
He's no longer an elite player.
The answer is simple.
James Harden apparently had the worst hamstring injury in the history of mankind.
I mean, I've never heard.
I'm not belittling hamstring injuries.
But two years?
Yeah.
Two years?
I've been raising my eyebrows a little bit.
What?
It means one of two things.
As you said, it's either the worst.
hamstring ever, or what we know about James Hardin is not known for being the hardest
working guy every offseason and taking care of his body.
Right.
And it might be too.
If he really is working that hard, it might be too late.
Look, I don't think Hardin will ever be what he was a few years ago in Houston.
But he doesn't have to be.
What I'd like to see him be, I don't even know if he can be this.
That guy when he first got to Brooklyn, when he was running point and Kyrie was playing to,
and Kevin Durant was out.
James Hardin was playing as well as anybody in the league.
He really could be a great point guard,
but he's got to, that's all they need,
because Tyrese Maxie is on the come.
Tobias Harris is still there as a fourth score.
So they don't need it to be the 35-point score.
But run the offense, don't shrink in the big moments,
and James Hardin could be effective for the Philadelphia 76ers.
on a high level.
James Hardin can be effective, Ryan.
James Hardin can be effective.
I said on a high level.
Did you hear the end of it?
I don't like the sixers.
I don't like the sixers.
I took a beating for bagging on them recently
in the last like year on FS1 and so forth.
I'll just say this.
I like the Sixers next year, guys, a lot.
Irrationally so.
I may pick the Sixers to come out of the East.
I love their offseason, Chris.
Well, I mean, you had it there when you said irrationally.
Yeah.
Yeah, I mean, my gosh.
You go from bashing them, which was.
irrational to picking them to win the east, which is irrational.
Jay Mack, I don't know.
Jay Mack, you know this isn't college football.
They haven't done conference realignment.
The bucks are still in the east.
The heat are still in the east.
The Celtics are still in the east.
Brooklyn might come back intact.
I mean, come on.
Will you stop?
By the way, Joelle Embed has never been to a conference finals.
Talk about an overrated player.
We'll get to him in a minute.
Jay Mack, rethink that.
No, never.
Okay.
I actually could say that.
after every take this whole show, but
just rethink that.
All right, guys, let's head on the NFL here
with Baker Mayfield no longer on the market.
The quarterback domino to
fall in the NFL landscape that everyone
is waiting on as
training camp approaches is Jimmy Garoppolo.
With only a select few teams potentially
interested in bringing in a quarterback,
the Brown's rumors have started to
surface a little bit as we wait on a
potential suspension for Deshawn
Watson. NFL insider Jeremy
Fowler doesn't see it happening,
telling the Tolbert and Cope's show.
I don't know that I would say Cleveland is a big suitor.
I think they are pretty comfortable with Jacoby Brissette right now.
They have him as a bridge quarterback.
Jay Mack, where are you on this Jimmy G's situation?
I believe the Brown should trade for Jimmy Garoppolo,
bring him in, they have the cap space,
they got $48 million in cap space,
have him be the quarterback until the Watson suspension ends,
and then you're in position when Watson takes the field.
Holy cow, there's seven and three.
and they're going to the playoffs,
and they're going to have a shot at the Super Bowl
because Watson is that good.
I don't think Preset can get you seven and three, Ryan.
I would bring Jimmy G in if I'm Cleveland
if the suspension of Deshawn Watson is all season.
If it's half the season, I would stick with Brissette.
And it's a risk because JMAG is right.
Jimmy G is better than Berset,
and he would win more with him.
But I would only do it if Watson's out the entire season.
And I don't think, look, I don't know that the Niners are in a hurry to give up Jimmy Chee.
Because they're conflicting reports.
We talked about that earlier, Jay Mack, and maybe he does look as good as some are saying.
Or maybe he's struggling like our own Colin Cowherts said.
That they're rebuilding his throwing motion and he's got arm fatigue and his accuracy is a question mark.
If all of that's true, then if I'm the Niners, unless I'm bowled over with an offer,
I might want to keep Jimmy G.
I want to give Tray Lance a long rope in San Francisco.
They have to.
But not long enough to ruin the season.
You can't do that with keeping Jimmy G.
He just took you to the NFC championship game.
The locker room loves him.
If they start out one and three or they're two and five,
it's going to be like, we've got to get Jimmy G in here to save the season.
Well, look, I'm trying to win right now.
It's not, Tray Lance would not be the first quarterback to not be ready in the second season.
So if I have to go to Jimmy G, then so be it,
because they are built to win now.
Don't waste time.
They know they can win at a high level with Jimmy G.
Get it done if Tray Lance can't.
But I like him in Cleveland if Watson is out for the whole year.
Well, that's the news.
And thanks for stopping by.
The Hurdline News.
Yes, indeed.
Thank you, Ryan.
Music, for the Hurdline News.
Great stuff from you.
All right, some folks think KD's the best player in the league.
JMAX says he isn't even top.
Again, J-Mac, rethink that.
That's not harsh, man.
We'll get into that next.
Chris Broussard and Jason,
Crazy Man, McIntyre,
in for Colin.
This is The Herd.

Do you remember when Diana Ross double-tap Little Kim's boobs at the VMAs?
Or when Kanye said that George Bush didn't like black people.
I know what you're thinking.
What the hell does George Bush got to do a little kill?
Well, you can find out on the Look Back at it podcast.
I'm Sam J.
And I'm Alex English.
Each episode, we pick it here, unpack what went down, and try to make sense of how we survived it.
Including a recent episode with Mark Lamont Hill waxing all about crack in the 80s.
To be clear, 84 is big to me, not just because of crack.
I'm down to talk about crack on day, but just so you all know.
I mean, at this point, Mark, this is the second episode where we've discussed crack.
so I'm starting to see that there's a through line.
We also have AIDS on the table right now.
Thank you finishing that sentence.
Yes.
I don't think there's a more important year for black people.
Really?
Yeah.
For me, it's one of the most important years
for black people in American history.

Welcome to my new podcast, Learn the Hard Way with me,

And in recognition of mental health awareness,
this month. I'm bringing over a decade of my own experience in the mental health field and conversations
with so many incredible guests. I'm talking. Tripp Fontaine, Ryan Clark. Sometimes when we're in
the pursuit of the thing, we get so wrapped up in the chase that we don't realize that we are in
possession of the thing. And we're still chasing it. And we don't know when we've done enough.
Because people scoreboard watch. Life becomes about wins and losses. Steve Burns, Dustin Ross,
because you find it important to be a good person while you hear on earth?
Are you a good person because you're afraid?
Because that's two different intentions, bro.
Absolutely.
And that's two different levels of trust.
I want you to just really be a good person.

Into the herd.
J. Mack, the athletic.
released their top, what they've been doing, the top players in the league,
and they finally have gotten to the top five.
And here it is.
I want to hear your thoughts.
At number five, Joel Embed, number four, Steph Curry,
number three, Nicola Yokic, number two, Kevin Durant,
and number one, Yantis Ante Dekumpo.
Your thoughts.
Yeah, I don't like it too much.
these advanced stats, player efficiency rating,
all these advanced numbers really favor the big men,
which is why you've got three bigs in there.
If you're asking me not my top five,
I just, I'm not as geared toward big men.
So Rob, best player in the league,
Ryan, Chris, hear me out for a quick second.
When you are looking at best player,
to me that means winning a championship,
not MVP votes, okay?
If you're going to go, who's the MVP?
Fine, Yokic, whatever.
Go ahead.
Yokach ain't winning in the postseason.
He needs wing players.
This is a wing-dominated league.
Can you defend?
Can you shoot?
Three indeed.
That's what is the top five for me.
And, you know, using that as a template.
My number five players is Jason Tatum.
My number four players, LeBron James.
Three, Janus, two, Steph Curry, one, Luca Donchich.
Jemak.
What?
What?
You want me to go with Yokic or MB?
I'll say to you what I've been saying.
rethink that. Why? Give me a real reason why.
The best player in the NBA is Janus. Period.
And first of all, you go into this soliloquy about how I measure the best player in the league by championships.
And then you put Jason Tatum at number five who struggled mightily.
Midily in the NBA final.
You got to play great to get to the finals.
Then you put LeBron James, who did.
didn't even make the play in.
All right?
I mean, the injuries, come on.
And then you put Luca in, who got beaten handily in five in the conference.
I mean, Luke is the best player in the league.
You should have saved that comment about how you value championships when it comes to measuring
the best player in the world.
I mean, obvious, no, no, can you win a championship?
Because this athletic poll had Embeddied and Yokic in the top five.
They'd never even made the finals.
I mean, M.Bs never made the conference finals.
So I don't want to hear.
Like, Chris, let me ask you.
Did basic, very basic.
How do you define best?
Like, give me a firm definition for best player,
because this is very subjective.
I think there is a combination of things.
One, you do need elite statistics, right?
But a lot of guys can check that box.
But that's a necessity, elite statistics.
And it is how your game impacts winning.
all right
not necessarily a championship
you know
ultimately you got to be able to win one
but not just a championship
because you may not have the supporting cast
to do that but your list
is atrocious
oh stop it
here's my top five
just off the top of my head
number five MB
number four
Durant
number three Steph
number two Luca
number one
Janice.
I don't hate it.
Here's Janice.
The way you pooped big men is just the way you've been poo-pooing old school basketball.
Hold on.
You put M. Bid ahead of Yokic?
Did you really do that?
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
I like him beat better than Yokers.
Better defender.
Yeah.
So one key you've missed, Chris, is does this player make others around him better?
That is to me immense when it comes to best.
Not only are you good, but do you make those around you better?
Nobody better at that in the league than Lucas.
Donjich. Nobody.
Steph Curry, it has to be number two.
No, here's the challenge with Luca.
And I love Luca.
You had him too, right?
The first one, yeah.
But I called him Luca Legend.
I do think he's a phenomenal player.
He's going to be the challenge for Luca.
He's going to have to, I would like to see him get off the ball a little more.
Because it is tough for a second star and let a, really on a third star, if you have them,
to play off of a guy who is so ball dominant.
We saw the challenges that LeBron had with that.
Like the way in LeBron's games never was the perfect match,
but they were just so good individually,
and then had Chris Bosch and the great supporting cast
that they were able to win two championships in the four years.
But they should have won the talent was better
than winning just two and four.
But it wasn't the greatest fit because LeBron is so ball dominant.
And so that's going to be a challenge for Luke.
Jalen Brunson, who's not even a star, was like, yeah, I want to be in a situation where I, you know,
this one guy is not his ball dominant.
So, but Luke is great, but that's going to be the challenge.
Here's my thing.
I don't know how you don't have Janus number one.
I have Yonis three.
Let me just add this.
Historically, big men in any era have always needed a great perimeter player.
I don't think he's a big man, dude.
Because they don't carry, they don't bring the ball up generally.
So Shaq needed Kobe and Wade.
Kareem needed Oscar and Magic.
Any of them, that you name, needed a great perimeter guy to win consistently to get them the ball.
Janis is different in that he can dominate inside like a traditional big, even though he doesn't post up a ton.
And he also can bring the ball up.
So he's unique in that he's that big.
that doesn't need the guard to get him the rock.
He's a big player.
I don't think he's a big player.
He's a great defender.
He's a great score.
He's a very good passer.
Got it.
We love Yonis.
Let me just add this.
I'll say this about Yonis.
I know you like him.
Your list can't be considered legit without him at number one.
It's considered legit.
It is legit.
So let me just go back to Yannis and he won a championship, okay?
So they were down to nothing getting their brains beaten in by Kevin Durant and
Kyrie Irving two years ago, okay?
they win game three close game in game four
kairy goes down james hardens already hurt
yannis to an extent got a little lucky in that series
that the nets were injured and kevin durant's toe was on the line
and then remember i know you can and remember of course anthony davis goes down
and the sun's advance instead of the lakers blah blah blah and this year middleton goes down
listen janis is a great player he makes other people better he's definitely top three for me
but for me step kerry two luca won i don't think it's really in arguable that lucca's the
best player in the league. He went to the
conference finals. He doesn't defend.
He took down the sons. How about that side of the basketball?
He took down the sons, the number one team
record-wise, in the league. How about that?
With no other All-Stars. It was the
Luca Donchitzschsch show. How about that? So was
Dirk Novinsky the best player in the world
when he beat the Miami-Eadneed to fight? Hold on. He had
Jason Kidd, a hall of famer on his team. I don't care how old he was.
He had a hall of favor. He was not himself.
Luca Dantzich had nobody. He was playing with you and a couple of
plumbers, a couple off-duty firefighters.
and he won game seven in Phoenix by a million points.
You should have rethought that comment.
Ain't no need to rethink nothing.
My goodness.
I like Luca, but J-Mack,
this has become the theme of the show.
Rethink that.
Okay, J-Mack, anytime you think of a take, rethink it.
All right, that's our man, Jason Baggins.
Have a great weekend, bro.
Yes, you too, my man.
Peace.
