Starting point is 00:00:00 This is an I-Heart podcast. Guaranteed Human. Hey, guys, it's us. The Jonas Brothers. I'm Joe. I'm Kevin. And I'm Nick. And guess what? We created our own podcast called, Hey, Jonas.
Starting point is 00:00:12 We invented a podcast? Well, we didn't invent it. We just contributed to it. We're the first people to do podcasts. We get to ask other people questions because we're sick and tired of being asked questions. Well, sick and tired is a strong way to put it. But, you know, tired and sick. Tired and sick.
Starting point is 00:00:26 Listen to Hey Jonas on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you. you get your podcast. Just listen. We don't care where you hear it. Another podcast from some SNL late night comedy guy, not quite. Unhumor me with Robert Smygel and friends. Me and hilarious guests from Bob Odenkirk to David Letterman help make you funnier. This week, my guest, SNL's Mikey Day and head writer Streeter Seidel help an a cappella band with their between songs banter. Where does your group perform? We do some retirement homes. Those people are starving for banter. Listen to humor me with Robert Smigel and friends on the ice.
Starting point is 00:01:00 Heart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Winning on Clay is an art. The rallies are relentless. And at the French Open, only the toughest survive. I'd know. I competed there for decades. Join me, Renee Stubbs, on the Renee Stubbs' tennis podcast for no-nonsense breakdowns of the biggest matches, the toughest players, and the moments that define Roland Garris.
Starting point is 00:01:20 She can win. She's an outsider to win the French win. And she likes Clay. Listen, Lina Rubakina is arguably the best player in the world right now. And I actually can win on any service. Listen to the Renee Stubbs tennis podcasts on the Iheart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Presented by Capital One, founding partner of IHeart Women's Sports. Last night, a blown call changed a game. This morning, the internet lost its mind, and nobody's telling you exactly what happened.
Starting point is 00:01:48 That's where Sports Slice comes in. I'm Timbo, and every episode, we're cutting through the noise, breaking down the biggest moments in sports and giving you the real story behind the headline. and we're going straight to the source, the athletes themselves, their locker room stories, their reactions in the moment, and the stuff nobody gets to hear. Listen to SportsSlice on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcast. And for more, follow Timbo Slicalife-Life 12 in the TikTok podcast network on TikTok.
Starting point is 00:02:15 Thanks for listening to The Herd podcast. Be sure to catch us live every weekday on Fox Sports Radio and noon to 3 Eastern, 9 a.m. to noon Pacific. Find your local station for the herd at Fox Sports Radio. or stream us live every day in the IHeart Radio app by searching Fox Sports Radio or FSR. You're listening to Fox Sports Radio. All right. Let's pivot to college basketball slash NBA and bring in John Fanta, Fox Sports College Basketball expert reporter, everything.
Starting point is 00:02:49 John, how you doing, man? Jay Mack, it is great to be with you. Fun time of year. Final start tomorrow, my friend. NBA draft is three weeks from tonight. Yeah, very excited. We'll talk draft is shortly. I got to ask, you're a big Knicks guy.
Starting point is 00:03:06 You live in the region. I'll just start. Maybe we can either get his name on the list or off it, but Mr. Hurley at Connecticut, I cannot imagine him going to the Knicks, but you know him well. Have you checked in with him? What's the latest?
Starting point is 00:03:22 Well, I haven't checked in with Dan Hurley, but just looking at this situation, Jason, and talking to some of the folks that are around him, it is the New York Knicks that we're talking about here. So, of course, if they're going to be interested or reach out to a guy like Dan Hurley in his shoes, of course you're going to engage in dialogue. I think that that is a job that he would take, and he's even said, you know, when I look at the Northeast Roots, when I look at being from Jersey City
Starting point is 00:03:55 and being close to my family, it's the Knicks. It is that type of a job. I don't think that these conversations or that this buzz is going to progress to the degree that we saw the Lakers thing last year. And the reporting off of that talking about him staying at Yukon and whatnot, that whole situation, the layers to it. I don't think we're going to get down that road. I just don't see it in the hearing now in 2025. I think, you know, you fire Tom Thibodeau. You're now going to hire a guy in Dan Hurley where if you go to the NBA, if he goes,
Starting point is 00:04:28 Whenever he goes to the NBA, when that happens, and I think someday it could very well happen because I think he can do it, and I think it'd be a fascinating move, and I think somebody's going to make it. I think, to me, the time right now, for him coming off of last year's drama and hysteria, I don't think that these situations align.
Starting point is 00:04:50 I think, one, the Nicks have their mindset on somebody different. I think that they're looking at it from the standpoint of if they go and hire Dan Hurley, Is it a splash? Yes, but are there guarantees it's going to work? Like, remember, you're going for greener grass when your grass was already really green. And hiring Dan Hurley, as much as I think he's a tremendous college coach, and I really do think that he could have a future. I'm contrary.
Starting point is 00:05:13 I know some people are like, I don't know if his style works at the NBA. He would adjust things. I just don't think that it's here and now. I think four or five years from now, maybe. But I think he's happy at Connecticut. And now after last year's craziness, he's. going to stay. I don't see it. I don't see things progressing. I truly don't see the match there. But I do think if they were to reach out, of course he's going to entertain the discussions.
Starting point is 00:05:37 He's a New York metropolitan Jersey guy. Yeah. Let me just float this one. It seems like a pipe dream, but Jay Wright, the former Villanova coach, who seems really comfortable in TV and what looks like an amazing quasi-retirement for him, why would he come back and take a high-pressure New York Knicks job where you're on the road a ton away from your family, which he's obviously very close with. So what would you rather do? Call basketball games and have some cocktails with Bill Raftery or take on the job that's going to have the most pressure in the world because whoever's taking that job, what is the standard? The standard is to win a world championship. That is the fact
Starting point is 00:06:17 of the matter. And that's why this job now is so intriguing because when you have that type of a bar, who wants that job? Do you want to be a rising star now having to take that job? And your star could just as easily fall, because only one team gets to hoist a Larry O'Brien trophy. Look, could I see Jalen Brunson, Mikhail Bridges, and Josh Hart trying to orchestrate the FaceTime call with Jay Wright if they haven't already in the last 24 hours? Of course I can see that. I think it's going to happen. I think they're all going to try. Jay Wright is enjoying red wine, basketball, his family, television. I think he could be the voice of the college national championship game down the road.
Starting point is 00:07:01 If he wanted to coach again, Jason, he'd be the Villanova coach right now because that job just opened this spring, and he lives right down the street. And oh, by the way, he's already on the payroll there, Stone and Advisory Roll. Jay Wright is not going anywhere. I agree. Now, if memory serves you're a Cleveland Cavs fan, correct? Is that accurate? From Cleveland.
Starting point is 00:07:21 Yeah, you're from Cleveland. I'm from Cleveland. I'm from Cleveland. So it's weird. The Cavs won more games in the Knicks, underachieved in the postseason, and what are they going to do this offseason, John? They're not making any big moves.
Starting point is 00:07:32 Are they? I haven't seen anything. To the best of my knowledge, they're kind of going to run it back. That's what it sounds like. Is that accurate? Well, they don't have the flexibility because of the second apron situation that they're in.
Starting point is 00:07:49 They have a conundrum with what they're in. They have a conundrum with what they, can do from a roster flexibility standpoint. They have committed to this core four, and Kobe Altman and Mike Gansy and their leadership have kind of doubled and tripled down at least publicly. Now, Jason, I think there's a difference. Like, we talk about this all the time, and you're such a hoops guy yourself. I love talking hoops with you.
Starting point is 00:08:13 Everybody's like, okay, blow it all up. It's either, it's all or nothing in our world. It's like, okay, blow it all up, up, or you stay. stand packed. I actually think Cleveland's in a position where they don't have to blow it all up. You're not going to. You're still relatively young. I mean, Evan Mobley's 23 years of age, and I still think he's going to continue to soar. I think Donovan Mitchell and Darius Garland, they just haven't fit, Jason. Health or not. Darius Garland has now had three post seasons to really show something. I understand he was hurt. But I think that that's the best chance for Cleveland
Starting point is 00:08:49 and to potentially make a move, is to potentially move Garland and try to recalibrate some of the pieces. I like what they did in the deadline. I like that DeAndre Hunter move. Yeah. And I think Jared Allen, Jared Allen's been an easy target because he has gotten out tough in the playoffs. But I don't think simply changing Jared Allen for another big man
Starting point is 00:09:07 is going to solve the Cavs issues. To me, Donovan Mitchell's fighting this demon in his career. He can't get to the conference finals. He can't get there. I'm in the class. I don't know what. class you're in. You can't just go status quo, though. Okay, we'll run it back and there's
Starting point is 00:09:26 enough signs for us to say that this is going to end up working. There are enough signs in Cleveland. They've had a couple of years to do it. Whereas I think there were more signs with the Knicks after this postseason, which is why this news came, no matter what side you're on. And I thought when the Pistons Nick series was even at a game of peace, we all know what the smoke was. The smoke was the Knicks could move on from Tibbs. J-Mack, where there's smoke, there's fire, and when executives, when the scuttle starts to break that maybe a coach could be on the hot seat, that tells me, one, if they're thinking about it, and if they're starting to commit to it,
Starting point is 00:10:07 it's going to take a whole hell of a lot for them to go back on that. They were clearly thinking about this for a while. Let's face it, the Knicks were underwhelming in the regular season. heading in the playoffs people did not see this run coming that's why it was pretty refreshing that's why it rated as well as it did the nicks always do but as well as it did on tv and as we were so compelled by it but if you're starting to think about something and then you start to commit to something you're you're going to do it whether it's the right move or not and motion plays apart in this and james dolin and his team felt that it was the right time to do this but in the nba like organically building second raster construction super important. But to me, it's still not a status quo league. Even if you go out and get a third or fourth guy. Right now, the third or fourth guy in your rotation is as important as it's ever been. You could have a one and two. You can't just have a one and two and win a championship. So I brought up the Cavs because they're not doing anything despite a postseason failure.
Starting point is 00:11:08 The Indiana Pacers last year swept in the Easter conference finals, did nothing. Didn't fire the coach, kept their top seven. They're now in the NBA finals. And I just wonder if the name, made a bit of a mistake, but I digress. Let me quickly ask you, your latest mock draft, obviously Cooper Flagg, going to the Mavs, it's at Fox Sports.com.
Starting point is 00:11:27 Dylan Harper, not a huge surprise to the Spurs. I think it's three is a bit of a minor curveball. So edgecombe is bouncy. Dude reminds me of Russell Westbrook. But Ace Bailey is one of these potential unicorn types. And you have been sliding to four. Care to explain that one, John?
Starting point is 00:11:47 So for me, if I were Philadelphia, I do everything I could to trade that pick. And I think they already are trying to. Philadelphia is also in a window where their assets are a little bit restricted themselves. I would try to collect more of them. And in that case, maybe Jason, we see the Jazz or the Wizards, somebody in that 4, 5, 6, 7 zone, say, you know what, I got to have Bailey because, look, I talk to college coaches all the time. And there was a ringing thing about Ace Bailey, and that was, and the consensus was he's one of the most unique athletes that we've seen the draft. He's got guard skills at 6'10, really unique player, can make difficult shots.
Starting point is 00:12:32 Here's the problem, Jason. Okay? The problem is he needs the ball to function. Yeah. Philadelphia doesn't have that luxury. If Philadelphia is trying to win now, not going to draw stuff up for a kid who, frankly, I like his game. He needs time. He needs time. He is very raw still, in my humble opinion. Like, he can make tough shots, but he's undisciplined in his shot selection at times.
Starting point is 00:12:58 So I haven't gone to the Hornets because I still think they've got their fair share of shots to go around. And I think if I'm Charlotte, I take that shot and I go for him. I'm just a little bit uncertain about Bailey. I don't like the fit in Philadelphia. Interesting. Maybe to the same degree as others. I just am not. I'm not a fan there. Whereas Edgecom, to me, I think Philly could continue to use different perimeter assets. I think Edgecom's a willing defender. He's ultra athletic.
Starting point is 00:13:22 He can move the basketball. He makes the right plays. That's why I went in that direction. Bailey, to me, in Philly, I don't like the thing. All right. One more. So I like Igor. I see you have him rising, BYU.
Starting point is 00:13:35 John, off the top of my head, are your top nine guys all freshmen? I think the Washington State kid who is a big riser. He's not a freshman, right? My top nine are all freshmen and in the lottery so the top 14 all but two are freshmen. This to me is the best draft night
Starting point is 00:13:54 since pre-COVID. Years. That's not that out of the tape. Cooper flag at one. Jason, to me, it's the American story. Small town Maine. I covered this kid at Pete Jam. I remember, here's my Cooper Flag story for you.
Starting point is 00:14:12 You'll love this. I remember walking into the gym down of Peach Jam, which for those who don't know, Peach Jam is the premier grassroots recruiting event down in South Carolina every July. I walk in and LeBron James is coaching that day. He was coaching Bryce. And he's around and he's hanging out. And a bunch of people are noticing that. But the gym was full.
Starting point is 00:14:37 And all I hear from behind me is someone say, oh, wow, LeBron's coaching. And two people turned and said, yeah, but I'm here to see Cooper. Everybody was there to see Cooper fly. This kid doesn't care what people think about it. In an era of social media, he just goes, man. He plays. He is relentless from a competitive standpoint. I think he is the best defensive prospect I've seen in my 10 steady years of covering college basketball.
Starting point is 00:15:04 The kid is relentless on that end of the floor. Then you've got Harper going to, you know, the son of an NBA great. you've got a ton of really unique freshman talent in this draft, to your point, Concanipple out of Duke, Trey Johnson, I think out of practices skilled. I love this class, and I do think draft night is going to deliver some curveballs as well. Yeah, I totally agree with that.
Starting point is 00:15:25 John Fanta, you can check out his mock draft at foxports.com. Obviously, he is one of the best in college basketball. Great stuff, John. We'll talk to you soon, buddy. Thank you, Jemak. Appreciate you. All right. Good stuff from John Fanta.
Starting point is 00:15:37 I'm not as high on Caniple, but that's getting granular. All right. The herd for the final 30 minutes is moving to the Fox Sports app. Next on FS1 is the UEFA Nations League. You see that gentleman right there? Cristiano Ronaldo.
Starting point is 00:15:53 Listen, it doesn't get much better than Cristiano Ronaldo playing soccer. I believe he's 40. I mean, this guy is just an unbelievable athlete. After this, he'll be on a yacht with his beautiful wife and family. Enjoy the soccer. We're on the Fox Sports app.
Starting point is 00:16:07 Be sure to catch live editions of The Herd weekdays in noon Eastern 9 a.m. Pacific. Hey, it's us, the Jonas Brothers, and guess what? We have some big news. What's the news, name? Huge news. We created our own podcast called, Hey Jonas. We invented a podcast? Well, we didn't invent it. We just contributed to our first people to do podcasts. Pretty, yeah, pretty wide range of podcasts throughout there. But this one's extra special. So how do we actually come up with a name Hey Jonas, guys? I honestly don't remember. I think it was.
Starting point is 00:16:40 on a call about what we should call it. We were thinking I'm originally calling it one of the early names of our band before Jonas Brothers. This is how you guys remember it going down? Yes. I have a very different memory of this. We were talking about a thing, a bit for the podcast
Starting point is 00:16:58 where people could call in and say, hey Jonas. And then I wrote down on my little notepad, Hey Jonas, and offered it up as a potential title for the podcast. But thanks for remembering that, guys. Listen to Hey Jonas on the IHeart Radio app. Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcast. Just listen. We don't care where you hear it. Another podcast from some SNL, late-night comedy guy, not quite.
Starting point is 00:17:20 Unhumor me with Robert Smygel and friends. Me and hilarious guests from Bob Odenkirk to David Letterman help make you funnier. This week, my guest, SNL's Mikey Day and head writer, Streeter Seidel, help an a cappella band with their between songs banter. Where does your group perform? We do some retirement homes. Those people are starving for banter. Listen to humor me with Robert Smigel and friends on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts.
Starting point is 00:17:46 Last night, a blown call changed a game. This morning, the internet lost its mind. Highlights are trending, opinions are flying, and nobody's telling you exactly what happened. That's where Sports Slice comes in. I'm Timbo. Every episode, we're cutting through the noise, breaking down the plays, the controversies, and the stories behind the headlines. We go straight to the source, the athletes themselves, their locker room stories, their reactions, the stuff nobody's. gets to hear. The laughs, the drama, the triumphs, the moments that never make the highlight real. From viral moments to historic games, from buzzer-beaters to controversial calls, we break it down, give you context, and ask the questions everybody wants answered.
Starting point is 00:18:23 Sports Slice brings you closer to the action with stories told by the people who live them. Listen to Sports Slice on the Iheart radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcast. And for more, follow Timbo Slices Life 12 in the TikTok podcast network on TikTok. The French Open is one of the
Starting point is 00:18:39 toughest tests in tennis. And I know firsthand because I competed there myself. I'm Renee Stubbs, and on the Renee Stubbs Tennis podcast, I'm breaking down everything happening at Roland Garris. Every match, every upset, and what it really takes to win on Clay. Jenchian win. I mean, she went down in three to Rabakina, but I'm delighted. She's an outsider to win the French for me. And she likes Clay. Listen, Lina Rabakina is arguably the best player in the world right now. And I actually can win on any surface because if she's serving, well, good luck. Consider this your court side seat to the French Open.
Starting point is 00:19:16 Listen to the Renee Stubbs Tennis podcast on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Presented by Capital One, founding partner of IHeart Women's Sports. All right, we are back here on the herd. Let's go to Alex with the news. No, no, no, no. Turn on the news. This is the herd line news.
Starting point is 00:19:38 Well, Jay Mack, we're starting in the NFL, and Shador Sanders may not have been a first round pick, but he's first in something else for all rookies jersey sales. The Brown's fifth round pick led rookies in jersey sales for all of May. His former teammate, Travis Hunter, is second, and number one overall pick Cam Ward has the third most popular jersey. But this shouldn't surprise anybody. He is the biggest name and the biggest brand to come out of the draft. And I said this yesterday. I hope Shador goes out there and proves everything.
Starting point is 00:20:08 everybody wrong and just shows up on the field. He's had a great attitude since getting drafted by the Browns. He has a great mentor in Tom Brady, not his dad. Tom Brady has been public about saying that he's called and talked to Shadour, especially after the draft. And he told him, doesn't matter where you're drafted. All that matters is day one at camp because that's where you earn your spot. If anybody can attest to that, it's Tom Brady who went in the sixth round,
Starting point is 00:20:36 a hundred and ninety-nine thick. He's the goat more rings than any franchise. But yeah, he's got good people surrounding him besides just his dad that we're slowly finding out was probably a big factor in a lot of the negativity and attitude to what should learn. The whole jersey sales,
Starting point is 00:20:53 I'll never understand. Like, the guy was taking on the fifth round and you're clamoring to get his jersey? This is why, like, brand matters. You're branding, your name recognition. Like, you're talking about, super teams and superstar teams. If he's playing, fans are going to tune into that game to watch the Browns.
Starting point is 00:21:12 I'll because of Shador Sanders. You know what? I'll take a picture when I'm home of the jerseys I own. I know Matt Liner will get so upset. He's like, you can't wear jerseys. But I only have to break. There's certain people who are jerseys. You're a jersey guy.
Starting point is 00:21:25 Magic Johnson. You wear tank top jerseys, don't you? Only tank top jerseys. Come on. That's very much. Magic Johnson, Patrick viewing. Messy, which isn't a tank top I got for Christmas. And it was, oh, the Dwayne Wade jersey is the best one from the heat.
Starting point is 00:21:41 Because of the color, it looks great. It's cool. Given, like, my skin tone and the color is. I'm not a jersey person, but, like, you are a jersey person. You should see Ryan laughing. Oh, I can see him out of the corner of my eye. I can feel it. I can feel the energy.
Starting point is 00:21:54 Jerseys are cool, people. Jersey's are cool. Okay, let's move to Seattle. The Seahawks gave Sam Darnel of a three-year $100 million contract this off-season with the expectation that he'd be the starter. Seattle drafted Jaylen Miller in the third round, and Donald reportedly had a few bad practices. Despite that, head coach, like Donald said,
Starting point is 00:22:14 any questions about his starter are a waste of time. Is there anything that could happen other than an injury between now and the beginning of the season that would lead to a different quarterback being? You guys are crazy. There's no way to ask the question without sounding like an idiot. I respect you going to ask it, but like, yeah, you guys, it's just a crazy question. It's just not going to, like, Sam's our starting quarterback. We love him.
Starting point is 00:22:38 He's doing a tremendous job. Yeah, this is going to be a real big testier for Sam Darnold. He's not with the quarterback whisperer in Vikings Head Coach Kevin O'Connell. Can he be that same quarterback, not in Kevin O'Connell's system? Now, he is going to have another top-tier weapon if he can stay healthy because Seahawks obviously also signed Cooper Cup. And he's kind of, I think, going to prove it year as well, like prove to the ram. like I'm not done.
Starting point is 00:23:07 I'm not washed up. I can still be great. So again, this is a lot of new. A lot of new in this situation. And with Sam Darnold, like the question was before last season. Like,
Starting point is 00:23:19 is he really a starting quarterback? But then he was with Kevin O'Connell, who everyone wants to be with, who makes every quarterback great. Can he still be great without Kevin O'Connell? So our next guest, I just checked, he sent me the bets that he's made for the upcoming season.
Starting point is 00:23:36 Nothing on Seattle, but oh my gosh. He's coming on in like seven minutes. But nothing on Seattle. By the way, the backup is Jalen Milro. He's not. He's a rookie. He's not taking the job. No.
Starting point is 00:23:49 And I see Drew Locke is listed on the Deptcher, but we know he ain't thinking of it. No. No, he said it's going to be Sam Brown. Like they paid him $100 million. He's the guy. It's just, again, like, this is my biggest question. Like, the moment he left the Vikings, can he be the same guy? Not in Kevin O'Connell system.
Starting point is 00:24:08 Not going to happen. It's going to be hard. I mean, you do have Cooper Cup again, but can he stay healthy? You got a good weapon. All right, well, let's end in Texas. C.J. Stroud had a bit of a down year last year after taking the league by Storm as a rookie. Now at OTA, CJ has been on the sidelines, not participating due to shoulder soaring. Now, head coach, Camico Ryan says it's nothing to worry about.
Starting point is 00:24:32 Yeah, there's no concerns with CJ. He's just general soreness. taking extra precaution with him, but he'll be good to go. No concerns on my end there. When he's ready to go, he'll be ready to go. He obviously had a bit of a sophomore slump after his rookie of the year season, but he took a beating in the pocket last year. He was sacked 52 times the second most in the NFL,
Starting point is 00:24:53 and then their playoff loss to the chief, He was like eight times, pressured 56% of his dropbacks, but he also, like, he lost a lot of his weapons during the season. He lost Von Diggs, tanked out, Nico Collins, their offensive coordinator got fired at the end of the year, so now he's going to have a new offensive coordinator. So, again, it's a lot of change. But when you look at his rookie season to year two,
Starting point is 00:25:14 I think the two biggest things that stand out, his touchdown to interception, he was 26 and 5, his rookie year, and then 21 and 13 in his second year, and then sacked in his rookie year season 38 times, and then his year two, 63 times. Not great. So let me just ask you us.
Starting point is 00:25:33 Alex, he hasn't thrown a football pass in six months. Yeah. Six months. Yeah. How does he have shoulders from this? Ah. Maybe he was doing some like other offseason training before OTAs. I mean, it's possible that he did absolutely nothing and then he overworked it at the beginning or leading up to.
Starting point is 00:25:52 Yeah. But that to me. You're definitely working out to build up to OTAs in the off season, right? You have your own personal training and your own workout schedule and your own program. Oh, okay. Hold on. So the staff is now saying that the media later pressed D'Amico Ryan. Did C.J. Stroud have any procedures done?
Starting point is 00:26:10 Oh. And he refused to answer it. So it's possible that Stroud is coming off. He probably got some. Yeah, yeah. You probably got like a little cleanup. A little cleanup. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:26:18 Nothing major. But interesting. Not great. Alex with the news. Well, that's the news. And thanks for stopping by. The Hurd Lie News. All right, coming up next, all these dopes betting Shadour Sanders to win rookie of the year.
Starting point is 00:26:32 Let's see what an actual gambler, a serious gambler, says about that next year on The Herd. Be sure to catch live editions of The Herd weekdays in noon Eastern 9 a.m. Pacific. Hey, it's Steve Kavino. And I'm Rich Davis. And together we're Kavino and Rich on Fox Sports Radio. You can catch us weekdays from 5 to 7 p.m. Eastern, 2 to 4 Pacific on Fox Sports Radio and of course the IHeart Radio app. Why should you listen to Kavino and Rich? We talk about everything, life, sports, relationships, what's going on in the world?
Starting point is 00:27:04 We have a lot of fun talking about the stories behind the stories in the world of sports and pop culture. Stories that, well, other shows don't seem to have the time to discuss. And the fact that we've been friends for the last 20 years and still work together, I mean, that says something, right? I mean, she went down in three to Rabakina, but I'm delighted.

Listen, Lina Rabakina is arguably the best player in the world right now, and I actually can win on any surface. Because if she's serving, well, good luck. Sunday, it's the UFL playoffs as Michigan Battles defending champion Birmingham at 3 Eastern on ABC. Then at 6th Eastern on Fox, DC takes on St. Louis, the UFL conference championships this Sunday on ABC and Fox. All right, welcome back.
Starting point is 00:31:10 Our next guest, you know, I try to push to get new guys on here, and this guy's just so good. Last year, he came on the show and said, you know, I like Eagles to beat the Chiefs in the Super Bowl. So I went and bet it in Vegas. Oh, it was a great hit. Adam Chernoff, professional gambler. Let's welcome him into the herd.
Starting point is 00:31:31 Adam, how you doing, my man? We do have a little bit of breaking news. It's not real news, but it's like OTA news. So the Cleveland Browns had passing drills today, and Shadour Sanders is the lone quarterback of their four, Deshaun Watson still hurt, to not get reps with the first team. Now, Adam, we saw that Shador's the most bet rookie of the year by all these dopes out there.
Starting point is 00:31:57 Can you talk some sense into these people? and Chador's not going to be the guy. Like, they don't get it. I have no rationale to talk sense into any of them. If they're going out and betting that, it's 25 to 1. That's a ridiculous price to even consider for a fourth-string quarterback. Let's call it what it is. It's not a speculation on what he might be in the future.
Starting point is 00:32:18 But this year, like you said, there's a good chance he doesn't see the field. I was reading articles two days ago that we're talking about how great Joe Flacco has looked and how much command he's had of the practices and the huddle and the players around him. So, no, there's no rationale for betting him, rookie of the year. And if someone wants to do it, I can't talk any sense into them.
Starting point is 00:32:36 Yeah, Cleveland's going to be fascinating. Dylan Gabriel, just before we get to gambling, what do you make of the... Every analyst, and according to leading up to the draft, had him late round, if at all. The Browns grab him in the third. Albert Breer came on here, was like,
Starting point is 00:32:52 listen, Stifansky loves his character, his ball placement release, getting the ball, quick release. Does that surprise? you, it's Dylan Gabriel? Everything that the Browns did in the draft past the first round surprised me, quite frankly, the direction they went with the running backs, with multiple quarterbacks. I don't understand it given where they are.
Starting point is 00:33:11 I don't understand the fit with Gabriel. And if this season goes as terribly wrong as it looks like it might, is the fancy going to be there long enough to realize any of those traits to begin with? I don't know. So I don't understand that fit. I don't understand what the Browns did in the draft, and I don't understand it, quite frankly. it's ugly for the Browns.
Starting point is 00:33:31 Yeah. So Adam, you know, basically does as much extensive offseason work as anybody I know into the NFL. And he sent me a couple of bets he made. Now, the first one's obvious. He likes the bills a lot this year. Who doesn't? But I guess I'll say this. The AFC is kind of sort of loaded. And the Kansas City Chiefs still exist. So why do you like the bills to come out of the AFC, Adam?
Starting point is 00:33:56 Well, it is loaded. You're right. but the bills have the clear path to the one seat. I think about the chief schedule, the Bengal schedule, the Ravens schedule. They all have really tough paths to get through the season, to get through their division even. While the bills stand alone on their own, they've got the easiest division that any of these teams are going to be competing in. They've got the easiest schedule. The way that it broke for them is really beneficial, and all of their tough games are going to be at home,
Starting point is 00:34:24 and a lot of them are backloaded in the second half of the season. while all these other teams are going through their own gotlins in the division and battling each other, here you have the bills on this easy track where they can stack wins, figure things out, and be prepared in the second half of the season. So I bet their win total over 11.5. I bet them to win the AFC. I bet them in a Super Bowl exacta against the Rams at 44 to 1. Bet them to win the Super Bowl as well.
Starting point is 00:34:51 I think the path is very clear. I think McDermott now has enough weapons to be more aggressive in key downs defensive. I like everything about the bills and as competitive as the AFC might be. The bills just have that easy path compared to the other teams. So a team you're a little down on is the Detroit Lions. I said earlier
Starting point is 00:35:09 this week I think they could miss the playoffs. Frank Ragnow retirement is much bigger than I think the general public realizes new offensive coordinator, new defensive coordinator, divisions improved. Where are you on the Lions out of? I bet under 10 and a half wins
Starting point is 00:35:25 for Detroit. And like you said, new coordinators on both sides of the football, I think is a big question mark. Now, the pushback I get is, well, the Eagles had new coordinators last year and won the Super Bowl, placed both sides. I look at that Eagles scenario as completely different from the Lions. You think about Ben Johnson and just the amount of brainpower and offensive command that was lost. That's really hard to replace. The defense might not fall off as much as it might be perceived to be, but I think trying to replace both those coordinators is significant. This is the first time since 20, 16, Jared Goff's rookie year, that he hasn't had a top five play caller, even top three play caller in his ear, guiding him through things pre-snap, setting things up.
Starting point is 00:36:09 So that's going to be a big question mark for how that looks. You mentioned Frank Craig now. That's a massive blow to the offensive line. There's also a very brutal division in the NFC North that they have to get through. So I think there's more negatives here than positives for Detroit. I bet under 10 and a half wins. All right, we'll go one more win total real quick. And that's the Arizona Cardinals. I actually wrote about them for Fox Sports.com this week.
Starting point is 00:36:32 I think there is a bit of a sleeper in the NFC. Again, I'm not a huge Kyler-Murie guy, but continuity. It looks like they're going to have 10 of 11 starters back on offense, both coordinators back, head coaches back. Is there a world where the Cardinals kind of surprised some people, or is the division, you love the Rams? Niners have the easiest scheduled league. Is the division just too tough for Arizona?
Starting point is 00:36:54 division is going to be tough but i think the cardinals find the way to get into the playoffs and i think they go over their win total of eight and a half you mentioned the offense and the continuity the identity stays together for another year as well if they fix some things on the right side of the old line it's such a physical offense and heavier personnel that's so good running the ball they get anything from harrison and murray this year i think there's an arrow ticking up on offense but defensively that's where the leap is coming this defense even last year when it struggled, just play so hard for Jonathan Gannon. And now they have pieces.
Starting point is 00:37:29 That defensive line was significantly rebuilt this offseason. They had a great draft in both up front and in the secondary. I think this defense can play into the top 12. Honestly, I think this team has a chance to be top 12 on both sides of the football. I think the Cardinals take a big leap from four wins to eight wins season one to two. I think they can sort of test 10 wins here as a team this year. I'm very high on the Cardinals. I bet they're over.
Starting point is 00:37:56 I think they're going to be really good on both sides this year. So now you're leaving me perplexed. Do you like the Rams, Niners, and Cardinals? So that's three playoff teams. So is Washington not getting back? What's going on in the NFC North? Or are the Eagles falling and tumbling down the lot? Well, Washington has a brutal path and a brutal schedule this year.
Starting point is 00:38:15 Like I get that the roster's improved quite a bit. But that's a tough road for them to navigate being put in so many standalone games. being put in a tougher division. The Eagles, they're favored to win 15 games right now on the look-ahead lines, so they're going to be, again, very, very good. But that's, again, a big leap in schedule.
Starting point is 00:38:38 A lot of projections that I have for them, have them going under their win total. So I don't think it's going to be as easy for them this year as it was last year to run through teams. And you have another competitive team in Dallas that's going to make that division a lot tougher with Prescott coming back in a new coach and new identity on that team as well.
Starting point is 00:38:56 So that NFC East is going to be very, very difficult. The North is going to be very difficult. You look at these teams in the West with pretty easy paths. That's why I tend to have a few more wins on that side than I do out east. Okay, one team in the North will hit, and that's the Minnesota Vikings. I kind of went on a rant yesterday about how great J.J. McCarthy is going to be, and then I got a DM from a former NFL quarterback who said, whoa, J. Mack, pump the brakes. Call me.
Starting point is 00:39:21 What do you think about McCarthy and the Vikings? It kind of went on a rant. That's probably underselling as much as anything you've done in the last few weeks. My phone's been going crazy with your clips. I thought I was calling into a JJ McCarthy fan show today, quite honestly. I mean, you're talking last segment about ordering jerseys. You probably have one on the way for him the way you were talking. Look, ceiling from Minnesota, everything goes right like it did last year.
Starting point is 00:39:50 you have an elite head coach, an offensive play caller. You have a brilliant defensive coordinator, and you put a quarterback into a top five roster in the NFL. It may turn out like last year where the quarterback does enough, a lot is going to be there to support JJ McCarthy, and you get a really great season again. But the counterpoint to that would be you look at how this could kind of play out. If J.J. McCarthy is a little bit slow starting
Starting point is 00:40:17 and some of the issues in the secondary that they didn't quite fit, kind of come to a bit of a head, and this is a bit of a slow start, unlike last year, and this team who has a very big home field advantage, one of the biggest in the NFL, has all of these tough games stacked at home, and they're going on the road with a couple international games and some tough opponents on the road. I could see this floor being seven wins for Minnesota. So I say all that to say, I think eight and a half wins is a good number for Minnesota.
Starting point is 00:40:49 I don't share the same optimism that you do for McCarthy, but I will say there's a lot of pieces around him coaching and personnel-wise to support him and kind of negate some of the issues, but I think eight and a half is a good number. So I'm assuming you have Packers winning the Division? I have the Packers winning the division, yes. Interesting.
Starting point is 00:41:09 All right, Adam Turnoff, gambling machine, follow him on social media. He has a simple handicap betting podcast. It's terrific. Adam, thanks a lot. And that was funny about Minnesota. Good stuff. Thanks very much. Check you as soon.
Starting point is 00:41:22 I've known Adam for, I don't know, five, five, six years. I've had him on my podcast a ton. He's honestly, like, listen, you guys know me, okay? I play a lot of basketball. I think I'm the best shooter I know. Then you start playing games with other dudes, and there's some guys who are really good. I've had a pretty good run-in gambling. Adam Turnoff is freaking really, really good at gambling, especially on the NFL.
Starting point is 00:41:45 All right, hey, listen, really good show. Alexi Lollis, Adam Chernobyl. We had Mitch Lawrence firing some bombs. Listen, who knows what's going to happen tomorrow? Yeah, I think we'll be back. Hey, guys, it's us. The Jonas Brothers. I'm Joe.
