So let me restate my opinion, is that college football has been in transition, hyper-speed transition for about 18 months. Before that, it was in mild transition. And as I look at a team like USC, that will now play on a regular basis at Penn State, in Ann Arbor, Columbus,

while maintaining a game with the UCLA rivalry game, in Eugene, in Seattle, at Camp Randall. Forget LSU off the schedule. Do I have to, with a stronger conference, more Bruer Road games, a 12-team playoff, a tougher conference championship, I'm kicking Notre Dame off the schedule. I heard you say that when I was getting Mike Duhl. and I was like literally that is blasphemous.

It is honestly insane that you said. First of all, they're not getting all those teams every year. They're getting a rotation of some of those teams, okay? So you only have to go to Columbus every other year. Look, but also now there's a playoff, a 12-team playoff. You can go 9-3 and make the playoff, right? The idea that you would lose Notre Dame, like, by the way, is Kishon come in here every day?

Because, like, I feel like he will punch you in the face. And everybody go, oh, why is Colin got a broken jaw? Well, because he said something just preposterous. So you think it's preposterous? I think that is. Like, if you really wanted to protect, let's try to get undefeated or do whatever, you should have just joined the Mountain West. Yeah, but USC is a huge brand.

Well, it won't be if you keep running off all the good teams. I ran off the beavers and the cougars. I'm fine. But I inherited the nitty lions, the Buckeyes, Michigan. And then I got Oregon Washington. But you're not getting all those teams. You're getting like one. Like look who the schedule is.

Look at this. I'm going to give you, because I like weather. I love weather. Okay. USC plays in warm weather. I just added Ohio weather, Michigan, Nebraska. You added football weather. And I got stuck having to take Washington and Oregon weather.

So I'm thinking to myself, do I need Notre Dame in November where it's nine degrees in South Bend? at some point I don't take care of me. I can have a schedule. You can take care of you all you want. You're not taking care of the USC football fans now. Fans. Do you think they're not going to show up to the Wisconsin game at the Rose Bowl? No, I think they will be there.

But I think this is a program that prided itself on not playing any FCS or non-power school. What do they get them? Alabama's out here schedule in roast beef tech. and winning natties. What did it get USC for being altruistic and thinking macro? That's not what hurt USC. USC.

USC hurt USC. It's not that. Pete Carroll was doing fine when they were playing those schools and saying, hey, we're not playing. We're not playing UC Davis. Good luck trying to find a Pete Carroll. Those guys are hard to find. I don't disagree with you on that. I have a belief in life.

Duck the best opponents. It's almost a rule for me. So why not go to the Mountain West then? Well, because my brand's too big and I want to make money. Your brand won't stay that big if you keep ducking everybody. I'm not ducking everybody. I'm now basically here's what happened. I have a beautiful, beautiful business.

Yes, you do. And Microsoft and Intel and Meta and Facebook and they're the same thing. And they all moved into my neighborhood. And it's like, okay, now the temperature changes. I'm going to get rid of one of these alliances. At some point, the idea that I, because by the way, USC's now being punished because they have a national rivalry with Notre Dame. How are they being punished, though? Because if you get rid of the game, Bruce Feldman's out there going, oh, why don't you just join the Mountain West?

And USC's saying it's not our fault that we have a legitimate top 10 program as a rival. It would be one thing if Ohio State had Clemson as a rival or Michigan every year. Michigan used to have Notre Dame. What do they do in that game? you're Florida, like just use the side. If you're Florida, you go, we can't play Florida State because now all of a sudden the SEC has gotten so good. I think they should punt on that.

Man. I love college football. But at some point, Florida, Florida, I want to win the addies. If you love college football, you want to keep that game because that is one of the most historic rivalries. And if you punt on all of it, you know, like you're getting, because like I said, you're not getting the schedule that Rutgers played

the last few years in the Big Ten East. You're not getting every year. You're not getting Penn State, Ohio State, and Michigan on top. You're not getting it every year. But I could see, I think it's one thing, let's say LSU, I think your Florida example is a great one.

To be clear, 84 is big to me not just because of crack. I'm down to talk about crack on day, but just so you all know. I mean, at this point, Mark, this is the second episode where we've discussed crack. So I'm starting to see that there's a through line.

We also have AIDS on the table right now. Thank you for finishing that sentence. Yes. I don't think there's a more important year for black people. Really? Yeah. For me, it's one of the most important years for black people in American history. Listen to look back at it on the IHeart Radio app,

But at some point, if I look at my schedule, I'm like, oh, I got to play Texas, Oklahoma, and Georgia and LSU. I don't want to play Florida State. Well, why am I getting punished for this? No, I mean, this is nothing against Notre Dame. But people have moved out of the Notre Dame game before. USC hasn't.

But it's not just like I'm defending them. I'm saying if you look at how good the Big Ten is now, it's really. one thing for the SEC to just take Texas and Oklahoma. Well, Oregon is as good or better than Oklahoma now. Washington is good. Washington in their history when they get the right coach is an elite

program with Don James, Peterson, Rick New Heissel. They were a top 10 team. Kalin DeBore. I don't know. I'm just, I'm not anti-history, but I'm not paralyzed by it. How about we play them every third year? We. We.

You're not going to be a lot. out in the club when you say, yeah, because basically what that reads like is, we're ducking you, we're ducking Notre Dame. Well, so what? I'd rather, you know what? You know who Michigan played out of conference this year? Bowling Green and UNLV and a coastal Carolina or something. And they want a natty. It wouldn't a natty if they played LSU and George out of conference. But you can, if you can, if you get into the playoff, again, you could be a 10 and 2 team. Maybe you'll be a number six seed. You can, I mean.

Can't if I played Notre Dame in week nine and got four of my play. players hurt. Yeah. Hey, listen to here, Sark has an opinion. So I'm a believer in, instead of being paralyzed by my former rivalries,

how about create new ones? Listen to Sark here. I know there was so much talk about realignment, and I know realignment looks different for every school. But for us,

we gained two rivals back, right? We're playing Arkansas again, which is great for Texas long. Horn and Longhorn Nation, we get A&M back. And so you're talking about the game of A&M, your time of house is divided. You're talking about decades of tremendous games and Thanksgiving weekend.

And so to get that game back, I know we're looking forward to it. I know I'm sure A&M is too. So I believe in 10 years or sooner, Michigan, USC, Oregon, Ohio State, they play this year and Eugene, will be bigger than all their current rivalries, that Oregon, Ohio State Every other year in Eugene or three years out of seven. Will be bigger than the Michigan game? No. That's the biggest game in college football.

But that Oregon's second, Oregon's biggest rivalry will be a Big Ten team, not a Pac-12 team. And that USC's biggest rival, because I think NIL really punishes UCLA, USC's biggest rival will end up being the Buckeyes or the Wolverines. That's the one that networks will fight over. It won't be the civil wars or the Apple Cops. the new rivalries, Washington, Michigan, and they've played before in Roe Bulls, that for the next 10 years will be Washington's biggest rival. I think it'll depend on how good the coaching staff is at that place, right?

Because, you know, Jetfish did an amazing job at Arizona. They were horrible before he got there. Last year, they won 10 games. It was amazing tournament in a row. Yeah, and look, he's got a rebuild now because I think they have like two starters back from that team that played for the national title game at UW. But if he gets Washington, built back up. Now you have two schools in the Pacific Northwest that fight over recruits,

that have a lot of history, that don't like each other. And if they're on the rotation, the hard part is, I don't know how the Big Ten is going to do scheduling where if you're, let's say, right now I think the two most talented teams in the Big Ten are Oregon and Ohio State. I agree. I agree. So they probably will see, they have a good chance of seeing each other at the end of the year in the Big Ten title game. But if they're not on the schedule regularly, I think it's harder to do that where it's a rivalry game. Now, right now, I don't know the direction of where, you know, UCLA got the worst draw of anybody in the schedule. By far.

I mean, it's brutal. Brutal. And they have some NIL issues and talent. Big NIL shows, right? And so we'll see what UCLA is going to look like eight years from now. It's possible that UCLA and USC is not going to be that. I can't get over that you punted on Notre Dame, but we're going to take that out of the mix for a minute. Do you know how many girls punted on me?

I just rebounded. My life is a series of being punted. I'm going to leave that alone for now. I'm going to leave that alone. But I think that the part about what Sark's making is these things are great for Texas right now. Especially the way they jumped into the timing is perfect because the guy that they probably would have hated. He got fired for a fortune at A&M. So now they're in kind of a turnover mode.

You got Saban out of there. Sark came close to play away from playing for the national title game. Yeah, no, I think Texas and Ohio State will play for the Natty. George is going to be really good as well. I think everybody kind of feels those are the three best teams. Let me say this. How about this? This sounds weird to say, and I have pushed back on this narrative,

I think Ohio State got a big break, Harbaugh, leaving. Because I think Jim is a next-level coach. Huge break. Huge break. They controlled the last three years of that series. Those second halves became Michigan running the ball downhill. And I thought Ohio State lost a little bit of their identity. They became such a great receiving school that they got not softer,

but they lost a little bit of their offensive identity from what they should be in the Midwest, which is here we come downhill, wheelbarrel, tailback, and pro lineman. Is there any heat? So Harbaugh's out, and that feels like good news for the Buckeyes. but you know how Buckeye Nation is. One loss is one too many. Where are you on Ryan Day, his support going ahead for Ohio State? I hate to say it like this, but I feel like it is national championship or bust for them.

You know, people forget they came within a field gold of probably winning the national title. Georgia game. Yeah. I mean, they were up by double digits. They were the better team in that game. You know, Stroud played great. Stroud played like what he's doing in the NFL. And then Marvin Harrison Jr.

gets knocked out of the game. Or they win. Or they win. They miss a field goal. They would have beaten TCU. I think we would all agree on that. Yeah, they were the better team against Georgia. And he would have had a national title,

but he would have been coming off of, you know, I don't know if that would have changed, if there's pressure off them, and they would have beat Michigan last year. It was a close game. I think he's a terrific coach. I think he is, his record is fantastic. You know, he has lost the one game that matters most.

not the game, the only game that matters, obviously. I mean, look, for as successful as Urban was, Urban had games where he would stub his toe. I mean, they got drilled by Purdue, they got drilled by Iowa. Like Ryan Day isn't having those games. That's right. Right. He's losing to the right people. Harbaugh's loaded Michigan team, Georgia, and maybe a Clemson. You're losing to the right people.

Yeah, and I think with this, and it's interesting fit now, you talked about like, because they have produced an elite group of receivers and they've had really good passing games. And they're the one offense in the Big Ten that has been very dynamic. Right? I think now, you know, he brings Chip Kelly back with him. They know

each other well. Chip Kelly's always run the heck out of the football. I think he's worth a win. I think he's worth a win in a big game. I also think he is a pressure release valve for him because nobody knows Ryan Day better than he does. And I think with all this stuff kind of swarming around him, I think

a lot of things broke well for Ohio state. I think Harbaugh leaving definitely breaks well because Harbaugh, like him or not, he gave them such an identity of physical toughness. No question. And I'm not saying that Sharon Moore can't keep that, but it's going to be harder to sustain it. He's rebuilding both lines. Yeah, and you lost all these great leaders inside the locker room. So it's a hard. And then Ohio State, because of the way they lost, it seems like they have, you know, their NIL people have really responded. Yeah. You know, they got chaos. Caleb Downs, who is arguably the best defensive player in the country, leaves Alabama,

had a phenomenal freshman year. I think he will make a huge difference for them. And, you know, they've continued to recruit well. To me, I think it's them and Georgia, you know, for the national title. And we'll see how, you know, like how the season plays out. But I think they're right there. And I think this is a great chance for Ryan Day to prove a lot of people wrong. Okay.

Sometimes I get a little emotional. and when you're emotional, you don't see clearly. And I sort of, you're smirking. I bought into the Dion Sanders, Colorado train. I bought into it. I thought it was fun. It was different. You're all talking past tense now, though.

It feels a little wobbly to me. Shudor Sanders. It's like, bro, you want to be a number one pick. Stop talking. Don't take shots at people. Don't do that. That's a total turnoff. You know, players coming out, shots.

Colorado feels wobbly, or is it? Where am I? Did I overreach the first time? Now I'm overreacting. Maybe that. It's that, right? Look, they went from one win, and last year they get to four wins. They were competitive at a bunch of games.

They probably could have gotten to six. They were playing what felt like a seven-on-seven team. They were not good in the lines at all, but it was Shador and some good skill talent. And then, you know, they kind of fell apart as the year went on. I think they will be much better this year because I think he has upgraded the offense line. They couldn't be any really worse on the offensive line. You can't rebuild an entire program in one-off season.

Especially after the spring, right? A lot of those guys came in post-spring. Shador didn't, but a lot of the guys in the trenches did. And so I'm looking at now they're obviously in a different league. Their win total for Vegas is five and a half. And I was like, oh, I think this team can win eight games. But then you start looking at the schedule. there's a lot of games where they feel like they're toss-up games.

I do think Shador is a legit first-round kind of quarterback. So do I. I think he throws accurately, moving left, right, pocket. He's really tough, yeah. Yeah, no, there's a lot to like about him. I mean, you look at what he, you know, again, you look at what he did against USC. You know, USC didn't have a very good defense. But I think you see some things in there that are encouraging, and he's got good skill

talent. You know, they just got to protect him better. I think to me, if anything better than getting to a bowl eligible, which is only six wins, I think is a win for him. A lot of people I talk to feel like this is, you know, if he gets to a bowl, then does he look to, you know, what can he get out of there? Meaning like, what's the next job for him? You know, does Jerry Jones try to hire him with the Cowboys if things don't go well there? Does, you know, I don't know, Arkansas. I know the AD loved Dion and Arkansas's coach could be on the line.

hot seat. Is that a job he would leave CU for to go in the middle of the SEC? I have no idea any of the other things. But I think, you know, I think he's done a lot more right than wrong there. But when they have put themselves in such a fish bowl, everything is a public moment. And I think some of the comments you're talking about

was Shador, especially, you know, with one of the players who left, it was like does that feel like it's beneath him to kind of wait into that. Yes. Yeah. You know. All right. One more thing. I want a bold prediction. I want you, I'm not asking for Notre Dame USC to disband the relationship.

That's a bridge too far. But I want a shocker in the Big Ten that we're going to look up in week nine and go, we had no idea this team was this good or this bad. Give me a Big Ten shocker. It could be a newcomer. The little wild card for me, and I don't want to go that far on the road. Like I think Wisconsin will be much better this year and year two. but I would say keep an eye on Nebraska.

You know, like Matt Ruhle struggles in his first places and then he gets it going. Dylan Rayola is super talented freshman quarterback. He's a legacy kid. And when I say kid, he does not look like any, you know, he looks like a girl man. That was like the five-star quarterback. Yes, was committed to Georgia,

was committed to Ohio State, ends up kind of going home where he has family ties at Nebraska. Very talented. The other thing that's big for them is, you know, Texas last year, people couldn't run on them very well, They had two great defensive tackles. Nebraska actually has two of the, you know, potentially the best, you know, interior defensive tackle combination in the country.

I mean, they have two studs in the middle of the defense. They're going to want to be physical. I don't think they have a ton of firepower, but I think they'll be much better. They had a bunch of games that go close. I feel like they're a team that has a chance to sneak into the top 25 at least. I want you to sleep on that USC Notre Dame suggestion. Just sleep. And you wake up and we live around all these USC people who are going to be so disgusted with you

Listen disgusted half of my audience is disgusted with me On the good days but the USC people felt like you were one of them now they feel like I am I am you're not and sometimes dad has to tell the kids We got new rules in the house you know how bad it's going to be from outliner if if this happened he's around Brady Quinn all the time right And then all of a sudden it's going to be yeah, we're we back down. Those guys should probably talk a little less than listen to Uncle Colin a little more. That is my suggestion.

Because Leinert gets out there, starts talking. Maddie, I just want everybody to sleep on this in USC territory. Because you go ahead and tell me I'm crazy. And then you're going to be 8-0 and you just beat Ohio State in three years. And you've got to go to South Bend. And you have a natural letdown and you lose 10 to 7.

And then you'll come crying. And I'll say, nope, not interested. I'll close the door on your face. But it's not a 14-playoff. It is a 12-team playoff. You have some margin for error. I don't want to play another team that can get me all banged up. It's not just another team.

It's the game you can't, it's the game you cannot, you know, back out of. I have literally told cousins you're not welcome for Thanksgiving. I can't back out of a football game. You're different. You're not, you know, like. Whatever. All right, Feldman. It's great seeing you.

Good to see you. I'm glad that you came. A lot of times it's hard. get you out of your little bubble. It's nice that we got you inside the building. And you have to see Mulva Hill. Do you have a scheduled appointment or something important? No. When Dave calls, I show up.

We've got to go out here and finish the season and finish strong, you know, the same way we started and just go out here and handle business. And everybody has to be on the same age. We have to be as one, right? And that's all it takes. You know, nothing bigger, nothing smaller.

Just go out there and stay healthy and finish. By the way, it's almost as if the dolphins, a playoff team, have regressed. You keep forgetting them in your jets to the playoffs Super Bowl arguments. I don't know. You got to go to your Rams? How many West Coast trips do they have? At Seattle. at you know that American Airlines flight at Rams. Miami to L.A. takes four hours, five.

They're opening it up for Burrow. Well, is he going to do that in Tennessee? It's going to be interesting. They used to be Derek Henry led, two tight ends, Derek Henry, 30 carries, blah, blah, blah.

They're not going to look that way this year. So Callahan gave Levis a lot of. praise during his interview saying he can be really, really good as in a top end starting quarterback. Levis is looking forward to showing teams that pass on him. They made a mistake. Colin, there's a world where the Titans surprised some people. And all of a sudden are eight, nine, and in a wild card hunt. Listen, it's, you go, they're just really interesting. I, I'm interested. There's parts of Will Levis I like, and there's parts that really don't work for me. And the people that watched him in college were like, be careful, his judgment's weird, that big strong arm,

that ego, he throws the ball where he shouldn't, and then you watch him and you're like, yeah, that's what I saw. I've said before, there's a little bit of Jay Cutler here, where I see like armed talent, smart kid, obviously, not sure I love him running my franchise, but there's no question there's talent. But with Vrable, they were defensive-minded, hey, we're going to control the clock and Derek Henry and win with defense. different franchise.

They're going to look totally different. Anybody who judges them, based on the last few years, I think you're doing it wrong. You've got to wipe the slate clean with this team. They're dangerous. We'll see what happens. Final story to the NBA.

Oh, boy, listen to this rumor. Pat Riley, remember at the season-ending press conference, said that the team doesn't need to extend Jimmy Butler for another year, and they need someone who's going to be there every single night. Some people took it as a shot at Butler. This has led to a report that the Sixers would not only well- Welcome Jimmy Butler back, Colin. But they would offer him a max extension if they're able to land him via trade.

They have a max slot to go with Embed and Maxi. So yesterday, Paul George, today Jimmy Butler. That feels very explosive to me. Embed's injuries, Butler's temperament. I like Butler in Miami. I think he fits Miami. Their best team with Philly with Embed was with Butler when they lost on a Kauai prayer that bounced in.

I remember that. I like Butler a lot. He just feels like he fits Miami. He is the heat culture. It kind of feels like he fits. Yeah, he was looking for a two-year $113 million extension from the heat that works out to just a shade under 60 mil a year. But a max extension from the Sixers? Like, why would you jump at that?

I remember when I used to work at the other place, And I remember talking about this subject all the time. And people push back, except agents would call me. And they'd be like, dude, you're right on the money. And I would say, why would I go to New York? Weather stinks. Don't love the owner. City taxes.

And the print media had no concept of taxes. You know who does? Rich people. And they're agents. Now, Los Angeles overcomes that because the weather's great and the NBA is a winter league. and so LA's got really moderate winter temperatures. But for years and years, people in the media just when I would say that, like, yeah, what are the taxes? Now, you can make it up in Los Angeles because the economy is so strong in California, strongest American economy.

And it's also, it's an entertainment mecca, right? But like the Jimmy Butler thing, I've been saying this forever. I get Pat Riley as a GM, I get Spolster as a head coach, I get Mickey Erison as an owner and I wake up looking at blue water with no state tax. If you get drafted by Miami, get your act together and never get traded. That's as good as you can do in the NBA.

Seriously, if you gave me a list of where I can be drafted, Miami's number one. Lakers may have the bigger brand, but the taxes, the congestion, Miami is as good as you can be drafted in the NBA. I get a good owner, a legendary GM, a legendary coach, unbelievable

because you're going to be single. Most these NBA guys come in from 19 to 28, you're single. It's international if I want to go to France during the All-Star break. Boom. I mean, listen, Tyree Kill clearly loves it down there. If you followed his off-court.

But that's not a winter league. Well, the argument is Miami's a great place to visit, parachute in for a weekend, a week. But living there can be a little difficult because there's so many ways to get in trouble down there. All the fun places in America,

It comes down to parenting. If you're a good parent, you know, you don't, you know, you have to be a little more careful, heading a swivel a little bit, but that's life. You walk outside the building and there's like a homeless guy urinating right there, and your kids are like, what's going to? You know what? That's life experience. Your kids know there's a, not everything's all.

prep school. Okay, great. And is it safe? I don't know, and I love New York. I want my kids to know that, you know, you can stare at farm country. Occasionally here, you'll have a little bit of something you have to overcome. I'm okay with that. What about when they sneak out at night with their buddies to go get that? You know what? Let me tell you something. Yeah. They're doing bong hits in Minnesota too. They are. Did you ever sneak out of the house as a kid? Did I ever was? Sneak out of the house? I ran away from home like eight times. Constantly. I might as well had a picket sign. I was protesting parenting my entire life.

Thank God they left the door up. I got grounded for a summer one time. For entire summer? It started out as a little fire. It got big fast. Entire summer. I didn't protest that one. I thought I was lucky to not. Damn. Yeah. Wow. Yeah. I was a piece of work.
