Starting point is 00:00:00 This is an I-Heart podcast. Guaranteed Human. Hey, guys, it's us. The Jonas Brothers. I'm Joe. I'm Kevin. And I'm Nick. And guess what? We created our own podcast called, Hey Jonas.
Starting point is 00:00:12 We invented a podcast? Well, we didn't invent it. We just contributed to it. We're the first people to do podcasts. We get to ask other people questions because we're sick and tired of being asked questions. Well, sick and tired is a strong way to put it. But, you know, tired and sick. Tired and sick.
Starting point is 00:00:30 you get your podcast. Just listen. We don't care where you hear it. Another podcast from some SNL late night comedy guy. Not quite. Unhumor me with Robert Smygel and friends. Me and hilarious guests from Bob Odenkirk to David Letterman help make you funnier. This week, my guest, SNL's Mikey Day and head writer Streeter Seidel. Help an a cappella band with their between songs banter. Where does your group perform? We do some retirement homes. Those people are starving for banter. Listen to humor me with Robert Smigel and friends on the ice. Heart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts.
Starting point is 00:01:04 What's up, fam? It's Isaiah Thomas. And I'm C.J. Toledano. It's our favorite time of the year on our podcast, Point Game, the playoffs. We're digging into the biggest surprises of the season. And I'm looking back on some of my greatest playoff moments. If we didn't talk ever again, I was crying. You just understood.
Starting point is 00:01:19 That's how personal it got. Wow. Then after that game seven, Marquis come in to you, he's like, you know, I love you, dog. You know, it's all love. This was just playoffs. This was just basketball. So listen to Point Game on the, I Heart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts.
Starting point is 00:01:33 Therapy is fantastic, but once again, it does not have a monopoly on healing. That's why I create the resources and that's why I create the community because I really just want you to have more access. On the podcast, Cultivating Her Space, Dr. Dom and Terry Lomax create a space where black women can show up fully and be heard. It's tough because we're suppressing our emotions and so many of us are like high-achieving individuals. Listen to cultivating her space on the IHeart Radio app.
Starting point is 00:02:00 Apple Podcasts or wherever you get your podcast. Thanks for listening to The HARD podcast. Be sure to catch us live every weekday on Fox Sports Radio in noon to 3 Eastern, 9 a.m. to noon Pacific. Find your local station for the herd at Fox SportsRadio.com or stream us live every day in the iHeart Radio app by searching Fox Sports Radio or FSR. You're listening to Fox Sports Radio. Yeah, there's a lot of talk about the college football CFP
Starting point is 00:02:31 format and what they're going to do with it and some proposals. I'll talk to Urban. I will say this about the college football media. You want automatic qualifiers. A, every other sport in the world has them. It's easier for the fans to follow. You want automatic qualifiers, that's obvious. And another reason you want them is because if you're, the college football is carried by 10 to 12 programs, Notre Dame, Ohio State, Michigan, Bama, you know, your big schools. You want them knowing that if they win their conference or a division, they get an automatic qualifier, they're more willing to face big out of
Starting point is 00:03:09 conference games. And college football has always had a problem. Since I was a kid, it's always had a big game problem out of conference. So I am four automatic qualifiers. Urban Meyer is now joining us, 17 seasons, free national championships. So there's a lot of stuff with CFP getting banning about talking about, what are you hearing, what are you hearing on the proposals for the college football playoff? Well, I've actually done a little research on this, and a friend of mine called me and said,
Starting point is 00:03:42 hey, I want to talk to you about this. And so I said, okay, and it's a 4-4-2-2-1-1 format. I know it's out there a little bit, but I did a little diving into it. And of all the ones I've heard, it makes sense. It's a 14-playoff. Now there's going to be a big caveat in there. It's going to be the Big 12 and ACC are going to be pissed on this thing. So they might.
Starting point is 00:04:06 They might not. I don't know. It's Big Ten, SEC has four qualifiers. But here's the best thing. It takes it out of selection and more into access. So the selection committee is going to be wrong. You know, it's an imperfect system. It's been that way since the BCS, which we were part of that in those six to the college football
Starting point is 00:04:27 playoff. Ohio State was part of that in 14, the 12-team playoff last. year there were some, you know, what are the mistakes, who knows? But I like the idea you play into it. And then that way, there's two things that I love about it. Number one is it does not penalize you. If I'm a coach in the current model, I am not playing a tough team in the early part of this. I'm not doing that. That's going to hurt my team. You get judged on the playoff and that's it. If you go on, the conferences handle the access, the Big Ten gets four. you're certainly you're darn right I'm going to play Texas because I want to challenge my team
Starting point is 00:05:05 it's great for recruiting it's great for our fans it's great for the game of football and it will not penalize me if I still win the Big Ten I'm the number one seat so you and I agree I'm a and the other thing is I don't have so the 4-4 would be SEC Big Ten the two two would be the ACC and the big 12 and my takeaway is on that well that's obvious like you have to start pretending stuff doesn't exist. If you look at the money the SEC has and the money the Big Ten and the addition of Texas, Oklahoma, USC, Oregon, let's stop
Starting point is 00:05:36 arguing about it. Those are easily the best conferences. I would argue last year, there were times the fifth best team in the Big Ten. I was like, I don't know if that, because I think Michigan's going to be better. I think Washington and USC are going to be better. I think the fifth place
Starting point is 00:05:52 team in the, I mean, you could have a Nebraska be the fifth best team in the Big Ten this year and like be a team. that can go in a major bowl game. So I'm with you on that. Now, do you think it's going to happen? Because I think it's the right way, too. Do you think that happens?
Starting point is 00:06:08 Let me throw in another little area that I thought. When I heard this one, I was like, I'm all in. It's a play-in for the third four spots in the Big Ten, a play-in for the third-four spots in the SEC, and a play-in for the second, or playing, obviously, for the ACC and the Big 12. And here's what I mean by playing. Three place six, four plays five. The winner of that game on that weekend will now,
Starting point is 00:06:36 you're going to have the Big Ten championship game and two play in games. That will determine your four teams for it. So a sixth place Big Ten team has a good day. They're in a playoff. So you look at Minnesota, you look at Wisconsin, Michigan State, Iowa, Washington, USC, UCLA, all those teams. at the end of the year, whoever's fifth and six are still swinging at the end of the year. And I just think it's great.
Starting point is 00:07:05 It's great for the game. Yeah, more big games that matter, and that's what separates the NFL from college is every weekend. You've got six or eight games that are fantastic. I want to ask you about some of these prospects, because you saw them and you know them. So, you know, there's always been this feeling about tight ends. Yeah, you know, they don't, it takes a while for a time. tight end in college to go to the pros because they ask you to block. So Colston Loveland and the kid, Tyler Warren, are the two best tight ends in the country.
Starting point is 00:07:38 They're both big 10 guys. Do they feel like first round tight ends to you? For sure. Tyler Warren, I think, was other than Jeremiah Smith, you know, the odd obvious. He's maybe the best player in the last decade in college football. Tyler Warren, if I'm an NFL coach drafting, I'm getting them on my team. somehow. I would trade for him. I mean, he was a quarterback in high school. He can throw, which he did during games. He can take a direct snap. I met the guy. We covered him a lot.
Starting point is 00:08:09 I'm fine in a way. So I think he's NFL ready. Colston Loveland, I think, is a little bit behind Tyler Warren. Yeah. But he'll be a late first, early second, I predict. Yeah, Michigan has a history of having good tight ends. Loveland is, listen, Brock Bowers is the best tight end prospect I've ever seen. And I think people look at these guys and go, well, he's not Brock Bowers. and it's like, folks, that's a whole different ball game. That kid is, don't compare anybody to Brock Bowers, so I agree with you. That's true. Now, you had Ashton Gentie, so I'm going to throw this at you.
Starting point is 00:08:38 I think the North Carolina back is as good or better. I think he's that good. You saw Gentie play. Here's my thing. The draft, the one position in this draft that is stacked, Ohio State's got a couple, is running back. It is a stacked running back draft. So my take is when you watch Ashton Genty,
Starting point is 00:08:56 is he good enough to take in the first round? knowing I can get 80% of that in the second, third, and fourth, or do you think he is a transformational player? Again, just talking to some guys involved in the NFL draft. So Sequin Barclay, the running back is officially back in the NFL. Yeah. And, you know, it disappeared for a while. I was shocked when Zeke Elliott, when they weren't paying Zeke what he was worth,
Starting point is 00:09:21 and Sutton J.K. Dobbins, they were letting him go. Then all of a sudden, Sequan Barclay, they let the guy go. and now all of a sudden he's carrying us, you know, has a big Super Bowl ring, and he carried that team. So I think absolutely, Ashton Jetty, I don't think he's an early pick. When I say really, I don't think he's a top 15 pick, but I certainly think he's back half of the first round.
Starting point is 00:09:39 And once again, a year ago or two years ago, no, someone would have said I'm going to wait for the second and third round. I think the run game will be coming back to the NFL with investment and running backs. And I think, you know, the NFL and college, they're both cyclical. And what happens is how did the, you know, how did the Eagles win the Super Bowl?
Starting point is 00:09:58 How did they put it all over the Chiefs? Because they ran the ball, they stopped the run. They obviously play great defense. But when you can control the line of scrimmage and run the football, I mean, that's the way we won championships. That's how you went. Let me ask you about, so I'm going to tell you, I think this is the most underrated player in the draft.
Starting point is 00:10:16 He's going to go in the second round, and I think we're talking about Cam and Shadour Sanders, and I'm like, just keep your eye on Kyle McCord. He can spin it. Wow. I think he's, now, again, I don't think he's a first-round talent. He was at Ohio State. He was very good.
Starting point is 00:10:33 He went to Syracuse. His numbers are insane. Am I reaching here? I tell you, I watch a lot of this stuff. YouTube clips, I'm like, there's a second, third round pick every year at quarterback, every other year. What do you make of him? Well, I know Kyle McCord well, obviously covering him. I know the guys that coached him very well.
Starting point is 00:10:54 They love the guy. very disappointed when he left. I think another year under his belt at Ohio State, it might not have been Syracuse-tight numbers because they had to share the wealth a little bit, but I certainly think he's in it. I don't, man, you said first round, Colin? No, I said second, second round.
Starting point is 00:11:09 Okay, I could see second, maybe third. Yeah. But I can see a guy playing in the NFL for eight, nine years. Absolutely. Okay, yeah, yeah. It is a weak quarterback draft, and the NFL is quarterback desperate. So somebody may reach mid-second round,
Starting point is 00:11:22 but I think there's talent there. Now, now, I like Shadur Sanders. I love Cam's talent and traits. I like Shadour, and the reason I like him is he had no run game and a lousy O line, so he has had to initiate offense his whole life. And I think, as you know in the NFL, when you go to a top seven or eight team, that's your reality. Bad O'Line, you've got to make plays.
Starting point is 00:11:47 What would concern you about Shadur Sanders? Again, I did a little research because our Big Nune, our Triple-Intyme, option podcast is going to the draft, and I called a GM friend of mine, and he has really slipped a little bit here. And the reason he's slipping is they're looking at the competition that he played. I don't know if I necessarily
Starting point is 00:12:06 agree with that, because what I saw, I saw a guy that's athletic enough to get out of trouble, a live arm, stays alive, competes his butt off, and he's always on the run because his offense line struggled. Certainly last year, and this year they're a little bit better of the offense line in Colorado, but not much.
Starting point is 00:12:22 But I understand there is a Throughout the NFL, there's a concern about if he can make the throw in the tight windows because in the Big 12 conference, he didn't have to do that very much. And you look at his big plays, a lot of them were on the run, and, you know, that's not necessarily what they're looking for in the NFL. They want a guy that drop back and make that tight window throw. There's some question marks if he can do that. Be sure to catch live editions of the herd weekdays in noon Eastern 9 a.m. Pacific on Fox Sports Radio, FS1, and the IHeard Radio app. Hey, it's us, the Jonas Brothers.
Starting point is 00:12:56 And guess what? We have some big news. What's the news, new? Huge news. We created our own podcast called, Hey Jonas. We invented a podcast? Well, we didn't invent it. We just contributed to it.
Starting point is 00:13:06 We're the first people to do podcasts. Pretty, yeah, pretty wide range of podcasts. We're starting a trend. But this one's extra special. So how do we actually come up with a name, Hey Jonas, Jonas, guys? I honestly don't remember. I think it was on a call about what we should call it. And we were thinking I'm originally calling it.
Starting point is 00:13:24 One of the early names of our band before Jonas Brothers was... This is how you guys remember it going down? Yes. I have a very different memory of this. We were talking about a thing, a bit for the podcast, where people could call in and say, Hey, Jonas. And then I wrote down on my little notepad, Hey Jonas, and offered it up as a potential title for the podcast.
Starting point is 00:13:44 But thanks for remembering that, guys. Listen to Hey Jonas on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcast. Just listen. We don't care where you hear it. Another podcast from some SNL late-night comedy guy, not quite on Humor Me with Robert Smygel and Friends. Me and hilarious guests from Bob Odenkirk to David Letterman
Starting point is 00:14:03 help make you funnier. This week, my guest, SNL's Mikey Day and head writer Streeter Seidel help an a cappella band with their between songs banter. Where does your group perform? We do some retirement homes. Those people are starving for banter. Listen to humor me with Robert Smigel and Friends on the I-Heart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get.
Starting point is 00:14:23 your podcasts. The French Open is one of the toughest tests in tennis, and I know firsthand because I competed there myself. I'm Renee Stubbs, and on the Renee Stubbs tennis podcast, I'm breaking down everything happening at Roland Garris. Every match, every upset, and what it really takes to win on clay. I mean, she went down in three to Rabakina, but I'm delighted. She's an outsider to win the French, me. And she likes Clay. Listen, Lina Rabakina is arguably. the best player in the world right now and I actually can win on any surface because if she's serving, well, good luck. Consider this your court side seat to the French Open. Listen to the Renee Stubbs tennis podcast on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Presented by Capital
Starting point is 00:15:10 One, founding partner of IHeart Women's Sports. Imagine an Olympics where doping is not only legal, but encouraged. It's the enhanced games. Some call it grotesque. Others say it's unleashing human potential. Either way, the podcast Superhuman documented it all, embedded in the games and with the athletes for a full year. Within probably 10 days, I'd put on 10 pounds. I was having trouble stopping the muscle growth. Listen to Superhuman on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Travian Henderson running back at Ohio State. The other kid is Quinn Judkin.
Starting point is 00:15:48 So Ohio State's always got talent at skill positions. These are two very, very good running backs. If I was drafting the two Ohio State running backs, what do you like? What would worry you? What do you make of them? I don't know enough about Quinn Sean. You know, he was a backup this year. I know he came and he was supposed to split time, but Trayvion was the back.
Starting point is 00:16:08 And Trayvion, from his, the last two years of football was night and day. Because up until the end of last year and then this year, I was worried about him. I was worried about if he's, you know, we used to call him one hit back. where he gets hit and he goes down. That's not the case anymore. He developed into a guy that can break tackles. He's always had elite speed. But if he really studied him two years ago,
Starting point is 00:16:34 he got whatever the offense line gave him. That's no longer the case. He rips through tackles now. He's a much-improve. I don't know if it's strength training. I don't know if it's confidence. But he developed into a back that can make people miss and rip through tackles.
Starting point is 00:16:49 He was not that two years ago. Well, that tells me he's a worker. So I like that. That tells me he put in the time in the gym. I'm all for that, right? I agree. I want to throw this at you. One more guy.
Starting point is 00:17:01 I think there's an argument after Abdul Carter's just the best pro prospect. I don't worry too much about the surgery. I saw him eat alive tackles. He's just, nobody could block him. What do you make of him? I thought, even against Ohio State, certain guys just pop. and you're like, like Mason, Will Johnson in the corner for Michigan
Starting point is 00:17:24 when he was healthy. I'm like, okay, that's a first round player. What do you make of Abdul Carter the injury? Would it worry you? No, it would worry me. I do everything worries you as you're starting to invest that kind of money and that kind of capital into a player. But whenever you look at a player,
Starting point is 00:17:40 you all say, and it's a little bit like high school when you recruit a kid, a player that comes from a great high school, a Xavier in Cincinnati, and you figure he's maximized. How much better can he get? Carter is only relatively new at that defensive end position. I think he's still growing into his body.
Starting point is 00:17:56 I think as good as he is, there's still plenty of upside. But I would argue that it'd be hard for me to not take Travis Hunter with that first pick. I just I love that guy. I think he's a once in a generation, once in a lifetime player. He can do things that
Starting point is 00:18:12 I've not seen people do. His stamina, the quality of a kid that I've done some homework on him. We covered him a few times. He's big. I want to say he's close to 6-3. We had him on our set with us, and I was shocked how big he is. So I think it's either Travis Hunter or it's going to be Abdul Carter.
Starting point is 00:18:28 All right. Would you like him to play corner and receiver? Would you scale that back? You know, coaches probably want him to play receiver because you can get the ball to him 12 times. What would you do? I would never say this other than that guy. I'd play him both ways. I would train him. I mean,
Starting point is 00:18:44 I've never seen, Colin, on a 160th play of the game, he's blocking guys 25, 30 guards downfield. And he, at the end of the game, he's a strong, I know it's college, and I get that. I'm sure some people who say, oh, it's college, it's college. I get that. But in my lifetime, I'm not seeing a guy to do that.
Starting point is 00:19:03 Wow. I still think you're shocked by my Kyle McCord take. I think that just, it's unsettled you. You didn't even know how me. You're coming. When you said first, I would have pumped the brakes a little bit. But certainly second, and what kind of person is, the fact he went, He got a little arrogance to him, got a little,
Starting point is 00:19:22 went and showed what he can do on his own. So, no, you did shock me at first, but I'd say second or third round. Well, I'm just a clickbait guy. You know me. Okay, finally, we got, I had Ryan Day on. By the way, I had Ryan Dan last week. He was so emotional. He was so good.
Starting point is 00:19:39 I mean, the guy was just so good. For me, hard to root against him. But you've won national championships. I only remember you not liking one of your teams. It was a Florida team that went to a bowl game, and too many of the guys won. Oh, seven. Yeah, you didn't like that team wore you out. Most of the time you love you.
Starting point is 00:19:57 Yeah, Constanum. Yeah, hey, you know, that happens. Okay, so you win a national champion. Chip Kelly leaves. You got NIL guys moving around. So it's a different world. But what is the hardest part of coming back as a national champion? Something that maybe I wouldn't figure out that you had to literally sit
Starting point is 00:20:20 down with your staff and say, okay, we've got to play some psychologists here. What's the hard part? And you put it on the players. I think it's the staff. I think the staff and that leads to your players, everybody changes. In 2016, the Chicago Cubs won the World Series. Joe Madden is a dear friend of mine. I went up to visit him in spring of 2017. I'm sitting in his office. He is absolutely miserable. And I believe they were in first place still. And he said, I can't. this team, they're hard to coach, they're hard to be around. I'm really struggling with this team. And he says he did some homework in the NHL, NFL,
Starting point is 00:21:00 Major League Baseball, NBA, college football, college basketball, how hard it is. The percentage to repeat is very extremely low. I don't know the number of, I want to say it's single digits. My 09 team was better than the 08 national champion, Florida Gators. My 15 team, when I say better, more talented.
Starting point is 00:21:17 My 15 team in Ohio State was more talented than the 14 Ohio State team, but we didn't win it. Why? Because it's different. It's just different. There's always issues. It just seems like when you're climbing the mountain, it takes energy and passion. When you're atop of the mountain, you're just taking arrows. So energy and passion versus taking arrows.
Starting point is 00:21:39 By the way, what golf tournament, what cushy golf tournament are you in today, by the way? Got an hour one today? I'm not. I'm doing Colin Coward on our podcast. golf tournament starts up again tomorrow though. That's like, it's quite a life you've carved out for yourself. I've got a little jealous to be honest with you. You could invite me
Starting point is 00:21:56 to one of those things occasionally. I wouldn't see. You know, Colin, if you work really hard someday, you know, I'm just kidding. Always great to be with you, man. It was great to see it. Urban Meyer, thanks, coach. Thanks. Yeah, so I agree with Urban. Big 12 can get upset in the ACC. You've earned your lot. 4-4-2-1. I'm good with that. SEC Big Ten have separated.
Starting point is 00:22:19 I mean, they were better before they added Washington, Oregon, SCU, CLA. They were better before they added Texas, Oklahoma. So, like, let's don't make arguments. Well, the ACC, what about it? I mean, Clemson can't figure out the transfer portal. I mean, I watched that, SMU, I watched that game. How'd that look? Not great.
Starting point is 00:22:45 So that Kyle McCord there That threw him for a little loopie You got a lot of contacts in the pro league And I like to throw a little curveball at Urban Live in Los Angeles Be sure to catch live editions of the herd Weekdays in noon Eastern 9 a.m. Pacific On Fox Sports Radio, FS1, and the IHeart Radio app

Starting point is 00:26:34 Either way, the podcast's Superhuman documented it all, embedded in the games and with the athletes for a full year. Within probably 10 days, I'd put on 10 pounds. I was having trouble stopping the muscle growth. Listen to Superhuman on the I-Hard Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Sunday, the NASCAR Cup series eats up in Vegas, where Christopher Bell will look to hold off the pack and capture his fourth consecutive checkered flag. The pre-race kicks things off at 2 Eastern with the green flag flying at 3.30, only. I'm fired up.
Starting point is 00:27:11 I was talking to somebody in the hallway today. Those Dodger spring training tickets, $100. Think about that. The Dodgers can charge more. They have so many stars. They can charge more for a spring training game than many Major League Baseball teams will charge for a regular season game.
Starting point is 00:27:31 Well, I mean, when you got Freddie Freeman, Mookie Betts, I mean, if you start looking at the Dodgers, I said it last year, from the top I mean you can go through the entire lineup it's one of the great lineups of all time I mean it's
Starting point is 00:27:47 not good and now this year we get Otani pitching you better you better save your money if you want to go to a Dodger game we're not giving them away J-Mack with the news no no no turn on the news this is the herd line news
Starting point is 00:28:02 all right Colin let's start with Sequin Barkley being the best free agent edition last off season and it didn't take long for Howie Roseman to reward him with the biggest running back contract in the NFL. The narrative around free agent running backs has changed in large part thanks to Sequin Barkley and he hopes younger backs feel the impact. I hope it does what it's supposed to do.
Starting point is 00:28:27 You know, every other position, the value increases each year for Bejohns and the Gibbs and I know Cook is up too. all those guys who are up and able to get paid. I hope they beat it. That's kind of how I look at it. I'm not one of those guys. I don't care for it. You know, like, oh, is this guy getting paid more to me or not?
Starting point is 00:28:49 Like, that's what the sport is about and, you know, building the position up. You know, like I said, all those young guys that's underneath me right now, when they get, when there's their time, you know, hopefully they beat it and max it out even more. Yeah. I don't know. Will there be a trickle down like that? I'm not sure. State Juan's special. He was a, you know, top five-based.
Starting point is 00:29:08 player coming out of Penn State? I think it's a great running back draft class. I saw the Cowboys. You see the Cowboys. Oh, big move. We'll talk about that here. Yeah. So it's a Sean Payton knows it's a good running back draft class. You're not seeing a lot of running backs move in the free agent market. Part of it is the draft class is so good for running backs. But this is how bad the Giants whipped.
Starting point is 00:29:27 I just saw that Darius Slayton got offered more money, $38 million for three years. Then the Giants were willing to offer Seekoine Barkley. Last year at this time. Darius Slayton. Because they're desperate. Boy, the Giants really butchered this. They're not. Joe Shane is fortunate that the Mara is patient.
Starting point is 00:29:50 You've got a stay of execution, but I don't see him lasting after this season. Let's move on to the Chargers. Colin, they moved on from Joey Bosa, but decided to get one more year out of Khalil Mack. Los Angeles keeps Max for his 12th NFL season, fourth of the Charger. Mack said he has unfinished business with the Chargers, which I guess means winning a playoff game maybe. I don't know. He knows the potential for the group.
Starting point is 00:30:16 I was told last year when Harbaugh arrived that the Chargers had sort of identified Khalil Mack is the one they would keep more of a team leader. They felt he was good in the room. He was good for the young players. Khalil Mack has been better than I thought he would be for them. I thought he was kind of tail end of his career.
Starting point is 00:30:37 I think he's been great for them. And I think that I think, listen, you have to make choices. Mike Williams, they liked him, got hurt too much. They let him go. Keenan Allen injuries. Bosa injuries. So Harbaugh's having to make tough choices. But what I've been told inside the building is they really think Khalil Mack puts in the effort.
Starting point is 00:30:55 He helps young players. He kind of galvanizes the room. Harbaugh loves that. So he has been a really good player. Yeah, I know. The charges have had a weirdly quiet free agency so far. They weren't in the mix for Devante Adams? What did that happen?
Starting point is 00:31:10 Well, I think if you look at what they need, I think they look at it and think, I think they kick the tires on DK. Metcalf, but the Steelers overpaid him. They lost Palmer, the wide receiver. Not Palmer. He's like their number two or three receivers? I wouldn't be shocked if the chargers didn't go grab
Starting point is 00:31:27 like a second tier receiver here in the next day or two. But I think they're going to draft wide receiver. I don't think it's a great wide receiver class. But I think if I had to guess what the chargers are going to do, they're going to take a tied end Loveland from Michigan with their first pick. That is my guess. And then after that, they're going to
Starting point is 00:31:44 go get another rush end to replace Bosa. Then they're going to go back to the wide receiver well. It'll be skill players. They'll get another running back as well. I just in a city where it isn't really Rams versus Chargers, but it is a battle for relevance. Rams are winning that because
Starting point is 00:32:00 they won the Super Bowl. To see the Rams get Devante Adams and the Chargers needing receiver not be in the mix. A little depressing if you're a charges. Well, but Harbaugh's history, college and pro, is he's never been a guy that spends a lot of money on the perimeter. He is tackles in. So he loves tight ends because they block and they're tough and physical.
Starting point is 00:32:23 That's why I loves Herbert. He's tough and he's physical. They could have gotten a Brian Thomas or a star receiver last year in the first round. They chose Notre Dame's tackle. By the way, Brian Thomas was excellent. And by the way, Harbaugh loved him. So it came down to Joe Alts or Brian Tom. I was told Harbaugh thought he was great.
Starting point is 00:32:40 Their front office loved him. But Harbaugh's, that's not what he's going to do. I mean, when he was in San Francisco, Michael Crabtree was a good receiver. He was their guy. He won a Natty at Michigan. They had like one big-time receiver. By the way, this is so Harbaugh. They re-signed Bradley Bowesman, their center, great kid, you know, multi-year deal.
Starting point is 00:32:59 So what does he care about? The Big Uglies. So that that's just who Harbaugh is. It's worked for him for the record. If you look at his brother with the Ravens, what's the one position they've been wonky, wide receiver. They've been good at tight end, O-line,
Starting point is 00:33:15 D-line, linebacker, corner. Ravens have always been a little hit and miss on wide receiver. The culture of the Harbaas beach up at the line of scrimmon. Yeah, that's smart. Speaking of ugly, you said the big uglies, how about the Dallas Cowboys?
Starting point is 00:33:29 Oh, boy, it's been ugly. And listen, the audience has to love it. We haven't talked cowboys at all today, I don't think? Maybe not even yesterday. But Colin, they cleared Cap Space last week, and they did it to get Giovante Williams. Not bad. Not bad? No, he's a good get for him. I think they got it for $3 million, $3.5 million for one, one year.
Starting point is 00:33:49 Well, Sean Payton lets him go because Sean Payton's take is it's a great running back class. Jerry doesn't see that. Well, no, but they're desperate. They have the worst running back room in the league. So I like Giovanteville's. I think the Cowboys will draft another running back. They are so. They have to.
Starting point is 00:34:05 Oh, God, they got nothing there. So I think Javonte Williams, it to me, would be a really good, a weak one. No, no. He lost his job in Denver, an unknown dude. But listen, for Dallas, if they don't draft a running back, he's your starter. They got a draft one. They also added offensive guard Rob Jones. What did they pay?
Starting point is 00:34:29 He is on a one-year deal, $4.75 million. And they got, of course, the long snapper, which you made fun. Oh, yeah, I love that move. If you're a Cowboys fan, you are just ticked off right now. These moves, just non-factors, left and right. I don't see it, Dallas. The good news is we won't have to talk about it this year. You know, they're not going to be good.
Starting point is 00:34:48 So free agency is official tomorrow. I think Thursday I may do my first, you know, because I do my division predictions after free agency. After coaching hires in free agency, I do one. And then I do one after the draft because then you have your coaching hires free agency draft. Then I wait through the summer and I do two more small tweaks. But I think Thursday I will be able to have my first, you know, last year, we had a good year. We nailed the AFC. So I think Thursday we're going to say, okay, this is what's going to look like.
Starting point is 00:35:27 NFC Thursday and AFC Friday or both of them one day? That's a good call. Maybe I'll do that. because I'm working a full week this week. I decided, you know what, I'm going to give an effort. I'm not going to mail in Friday this week. You mail in Friday last week? Kind of.
Starting point is 00:35:43 I couldn't tell. I didn't get my... I was so locked in, I couldn't tell. I was like Luca. I played on one end, not the other. And you complained to lie. To the officials, our producer. All right, J-Mack with the news.
Starting point is 00:35:56 Well, that's the news. And thanks for stopping by. The Herd Lye News. Who I was just looking at this highest paid running backs in the league right now. It was just a couple years ago. People were freaking out. Nobody pays running backs. They're fine.
Starting point is 00:36:13 Running backs have huge. You know, the thing about running backs that I've always believed that it's hard to have a great O line and a bad team. Because O line is the one unit that even helps the defense because it keeps the defense off the field. So the most unheralded unit in pro football my entire life is offensive line. You could have a great defensive line. It doesn't necessarily help the offense if you don't have a good quarterback. If you have a great offensive line, like right now, Philadelphia, Detroit, it's impossible to be bad because it keeps your defense off the field.
Starting point is 00:36:47 You pick up more first downs on third and fourth and one. You just play keep away from teams. Also, when you get a lead in the second half late in games and you want to kill the clock, no better ally than a running back in a good old line. But, you know, I think between Sequin Barclay and this draft class where running backs are in abundance, it's going to be a really good... And I will say this. I think Gentie is the best running back in the draft, the Boise State kid.
Starting point is 00:37:16 I think the North Carolina back is really close. Gentie's got a little more, maybe a little more wiggle. I don't know. But my question isn't whether or not he's a first... round pick. I think he's got first round talent. But when you have a draft where, and Gentie's special, he's got a little Sequin, he's got speed, he can jump over guys, he's a great player. And we've seen this before. Soss Gardner went to a smaller school, Cincinnati, he was the best corner. It happens all the time. Mahomes didn't go to a football power. Josh Allen went to
Starting point is 00:37:45 Wyoming, so it's nothing against Boise State. I think he's the best back. But the question is this running back class is so good. Can I get 80% of him in the third round? And I think the answer may be yes. But he will go somewhere and start. Now, I don't think Dallas, because Dallas sign the running back from Denver, I'm less inclined to believe they'll go running back with their first pick. My guess is they'll go best available player. I think, you know, what's interesting, I looked at mock drafts last night. I do this because I have no life. And the guy that keeps dropping, I do not get it. Somebody is going to get. I don't get it. That corner from Michigan, Will Johnson, I'm seeing him like 11, 12, 14. I'm like,
Starting point is 00:38:34 timeout. In a weak draft, you're going to get him middle of the first round. Now, maybe it's an injury thing. Anytime Will Johnson was healthy, that is what a first round corner looks like. So, it's funny to watch the guy's dropping in the draft. Will Johnson, Michigan. Now, these are just mock drafts, but like almost as a rule. He's like, 11 on. I'm going to tell you something. If a team gets Will Johnson outside of the top
Starting point is 00:39:05 10, you crushed it. Well, he's not, there was chatter. The Jets were because everybody knew they were losing DJ, DJ Reed. But the Jets just signed the kid Brandon Stevens from Baltimore. So the jets are not taking them. I can't see
Starting point is 00:39:19 Carolina taking a corner that high. Saints need a million things. Who did you have the Giants taking? Travis Hunter? Where's the Giants Street? No, I had them going Abdul Carter. Okay. And you have the Patriots doing Travis Hunter.
Starting point is 00:39:32 Patriots, Travis Hunter. Well, if you look at the Patriots moves, it makes sense. Because the Patriots went and got big, thick, girth. They went and got big strong guys. They're still slow on the perimeter. Probably not taking Campbell, the offensive lineman, the big kid. They're probably not going with him at four. No, they went and got a tackle.
Starting point is 00:39:48 Morgan Moses. From the jets. Yeah, and they got other guys. So if you look at the Patriots, they went and got big, strong, physical guys. in the free agency, they're probably in this draft going to go speed. So I think they'll take Travis Hunter, they'll take a running back, they'll probably take another tight end. Patriots should go heavy skill in this draft because they just,
Starting point is 00:40:11 you can't beat, at some point Philadelphia, beyond beating you up, could beat you down the field. You need some occasional pop. All right, good stuff today. Nick Wright, Urban Meyer, Jordan Schultz, love today's show. It's us of the Jonas Brothers. I'm Joe. I'm Kevin. And I'm Nick. And guess what? We created our own podcast called Hey Jonas.
