This is an I-Heart podcast.
Guaranteed Human.
Another podcast from some SNL, late-night comedy guy, not quite.
Unhumor me with Robert Smygel and friends.
Me and hilarious guests from Bob Odenkirk to David Letterman
help make you funnier.
This week, my guest, SNL's Mikey Day and head writer, Streeter Seidel,
help an a cappella band with their between songs banter.
Where does your group perform?
We do some retirement homes.
Those people are starving for banter.
Listen to humor me with Robert Smigel
and friends on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts.
Imagine an Olympics where doping is not only legal, but encouraged. It's the enhanced games.
Some call it grotesque. Others say it's unleashing human potential. Either way, the podcast's
superhuman documented it all, embedded in the games and with the athletes for a full year.
Within probably 10 days, I'd put on 10 pounds. I was having trouble stopping the muscle growth.
Listen to Superhuman on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts.
On the Look Back at it podcast.
From 1979, that was a big moment for me.
84 was big to me.
I'm Sam J.
And I'm Alex English.
Each episode, we pick a year, unpack what went down, and try to make sense of how we survived it.
With our friends, fellow comedians, and favorite authors.
Like Mark Lamont Hill on the 80s.
84 was a wild year.
It was a wild year.
I don't think there's a more important year for black people.
Listen to look back at it on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts.

We're listening to Fox Sports Radio.
Also, at the other place, ESPN, Aaron Rogers announced today that he is not going to come back in play, which we all suspected would be the truth.
He acknowledged that he's not ready to play, not 100% healed.
So therefore, modern science would tell you he wouldn't be ready, and despite some holistic efforts and a lot of that, you know,
non- foundational stuff the government's trying to keep from you is right.
And vaccine saved millions of people.
That's actually true too.
Kids probably didn't need the vaccine if there were eight,
but older people, 75 plus did, saved a lot of lives.
And medical science is usually accurate, although not flawless.
Doctors make mistakes just like pilots.
just like teachers and quarterbacks.
But Aaron's been selling you this.
I'm on a different plane than all you guys for like several years here.
There was a point when he went to Cal and he was a fun backup.
And, you know, about four or five years ago, old rich, never married, no kids, no pets.
He got a little kooky.
And so the reality is Aaron now is saying, yeah, yeah, science is, I'm not ready to play.
Of course you're not ready to play.
because that would not make any sense.
So what you're selling, I'm not buying.
Also, he said he believes in the Jets' leadership.
Of course he does.
We predicted this because Sala keeps doubling down on how hard Aaron's working
because he needs his friendship or he could get run
and Aaron's going to double down on Sala
because Aaron wants to keep Nat Hackett and Alan Lazzard around
and prove that his choices are right
and he needs Sala to go to ownership and Aaron to go to ownership
and tell Woody Johnson, hey, bring the guys back, it's all going to work,
the album's going to be great when we release it next year.
So I don't mean to be cynical on this stuff, but, you know,
this whole thing about he's going to play.
First of all, I would never, as a 40-year-old quarterback,
go behind that offensive line.
I mean, Mackay Beckton is giggling during the game.
He's not even competitive.
You could get hurt.
And truthfully, I think the league's more interesting when Aaron Rogers is in it.
I've said this before.
College football is better when Texas is.
is good. Aaron is good content. He's interesting. But a lot of this stuff he's been selling for three
years and darkness retreats and intellectually on a different plane. Oh, stop, sell me conspiracy theories.
Go ahead and hide in the cabin for four days. Doesn't change anything. Oh, it did change the Packers'
mind to trade you. And modern science is effective. Crazy, I know. But, you know, it's funny.
Doctors can make mistakes. Of course they do. I mean, I've read stories before where, you know,
Tampa General amputates the wrong leg.
It happens.
That's really bad, but, you know, pilots make errors, doctors make mistakes,
but 39-year-old guy, Achilles surgery, he's not going to play, nor should he, but he's not going to play.
So we know now it's not realistic.
His words, it's not realistic at 14 weeks.
It never was.
Why were you selling it to me?
It was never realistic.
I mean, seriously.
Who thought it was realistic?
you were pushing and it was realistic.
We weren't buying that it was realistic.
I don't even think I'm being
harsh. I think I'm being honest here.
Am I being harsh?
Like he said, it's not realistic.
Well, none of us thought it was.
He was selling it was going to happen.
We weren't buying it.
Colin,
I don't want to say stuff I'm going to regret
or get you or I in trouble.
So I'm going to just stand down
from all this Aaron Rogers nonsense.
I'm over it. I'm really done with this clown
and him coming out today and say,
next year's not going to be my final year.
Like, just stop.
Come on, just stop it.
You know, go in another darkness retreat and maybe retire.
Like, get out of here.
I'm ready to move on.
Let's draft the quarterback.
I would like to see him play two more years.
Him saying next year's probably not going to be my final year is a signal to the Jets.
Hey, hey, don't draft a quarterback at five.
I'm going to be sticking around.
Like, you're just hijacking the franchise.
I don't need this.
It's going nowhere fast.
It's disappointing.
Well, their first pick should be a left tackle.
Oh, really?
Should it?
Yeah.
You think they're going to be drafting fifth again?
let's say Rogers plays 12 games actually before you get left tackle solved regardless of the
quarterback they've never had a franchise quarterback if there's one at five go get him let him sit behind
rogers when rogers gets hurt inevitably he will so frustrating man i'm just so done with this guy
remember the optimism i had in august for like two weeks yeah well i didn't have them as a playoff team
i just didn't buy it that was smart of you well it because ownership coach
history o line one weapon it just felt like everything had to be perfect and
And by the first series, it was over.
But again, Aaron is very, he's got rabbit ears.
He can be very prickly, right?
Like he doesn't like to do shows unless you're in his camp.
That's fine.
We have the long, whatever.
The Jets have the longest playoff drought, not just in the NFL, professional sports in America, the longest.
When you sell me stuff that's ridiculous, like I'll come back and play, and then you acknowledge, yeah, it's not realistic.
That's what we said.
like so don't get upset with us when we said yeah Aaron
all this kind of nonsense about this
you know different medical stuff you're not sharing with us
we don't buy it and then he's very cynical about
you go ahead listen to the government now you're acknowledging
yeah it's not realistic which is what we said
but you were selling us this because I always offered this
that they were selling it because they were trying to get Woody Johnson
to not be crazy and impulsive and fire
everybody. They wanted Woody to believe there was optimism,
rainbows, chirping birds, pots of golden winds around the corner.
So now, yeah, now we're stuck with, uh, well,
the GM has done okay, but listen, some major whiffs.
We're going to be stuck with Sala. We're stuck with Matt Hackett because he's
Rogers' guy. Yeah. Look at the offensive numbers. We've seen coaches with backup
quarterback throughout the league. A lot of them. Get their team seven, eight,
nine wins. Zach Taylor and Cincinnati. Well, Gardner Minshu with uh,
Stein Steichen. Come on. Pertie was a backup.
Jake Browning, who was like,
Like, season over, bengel screwed.
Jake Browning's winning games.
Like, Hackett can't get anything done at all.
When Aaron's cynical about stuff that was obvious like you're not going to be ready to play,
and he's cynical and above it all, don't be surprised if we fire a few arrows back when you acknowledge,
yeah, it's not realistic.
It never was.
No reasonable person thought these remedies and none of that stuff is, it's, come on.
It's just disappointing.
I can't believe.
This is going to be another winter where my kids are like,
why do you root for the Jets again?
Because you were born in New York?
Well, that's dumb, dad.
That's real stupid.
Pick a good team.
So maybe now,
maybe now I'm just going to be a 49ers fan
just because I like Brock Purdy.
I love Debo Samuel.
He's taking me to the fantasy semifinal.
Why you become a nineer fan?
Can I do that?
Just change allegiance?
Of course you can.
Anything's allowed, right?
I moved all over the country.
I like wherever I'm at.
I was never a Rams fan.
Now I like McVeigh.
I like less need.
I like the owner.
I like Stafford.
It's like it's fun.
Right, go Niners.
Who wants the root for losers?
I like the Niners now.
That's going to be my...
Who wants the route for losers?
I know.
I'm still a Jets guy.
Would you go to a restaurant,
your hometown if food got bad?
Would you go to a car lot if you got six lemons?
Why do I have to support a crappy franchise?
I bail on them all the time.
I like the Rams.
If McVeigh left and they hired an old defensive coach,
I'd bail on them.
Well, why do I have to be loyal because I grew up in the same zip coach?
Loyalty is overrated.
Except the kids and your wife.
Outside of that,
I guess.
When I lived in Tampa, I love the Buccaneers.
When I lived in Connecticut, I love the Patriots.
I watched them all the time.
I do like, I wrote for the Rams a little bit and chargers here.
It's fine.
If you know people in the organization, you're rooting for.
You know, deep down, I'm hoping this soccer team that we're crushing with now making a lot of money.
This whole thing I have to root for teams because I was born there.
What's my choice where I was born?
What if I could buy a chunk of the jets with a group.
Buy into the jets.
You know they'll turn it around at that point.
No.
You're more impulsive than Woody Johnson.
Lock it up.
We will turn it around.
Live in LA, it's the herd.
Be sure to catch live editions of the herd weekdays in noon Eastern 9 a.m. Pacific on Fox Sports Radio,

Do you remember when Diana Ross double-tap Little Kim's boobs at the VMAs?
Or when Kanye said that George Bush didn't like black people.
I know what you're thinking.
What the hell does George Bush got to do with Little Kim?
Well, you can find out on the Look Back at it podcast.
I'm Sam Jek.
And I'm Alex English.
Each episode, we pick it here, unpack what went down, and try to make sense of how we survived it.
Including a recent episode with Mark Lamont Hill waxing all about crack in the 80s.
To be clear, 84 is big to me, not just because of crack.
I'm down to talk about crack on day, but just so y'all know.
I mean, at this point, Mark, this is the second episode where we've discussed crack.
So I'm starting to see that there's a through line.
We also have AIDS on the table right now.
Thank you for finishing that sentence.
I don't think there's a more important year for black people.
Really?
Yeah.
For me, it's one of the most important years for black people in American history.
Listen to look back at it on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts.
Pro Boulder, seventh round pick out of Oregon State ended up being not only a Fox Sports analyst,
heck of a player, trained young athletes, kids are great athletes, T.J. Hushman Zada,
catch up on game with LeVar, Arrington, Plaxo, Burris,
Saturdays on Fox Sports Radio.
All right.
So we've had a lot of discussions here.
Let's just start with the Aaron thing and get it out of here.
So Aaron announces, yeah, it's not realistic.
I'm not going to be ready to play, which is what we all said.
And we're kind of, you know, look down upon for trusting, like, you know, the history of, like, science that he would not be ready.
And now Aaron admitting, yeah, I'm not going to be ready.
We're not crazy town.
Sometimes science is right.
You never thought, I mean, you've been dealing with athletes your whole life.
it was unrealistic, right?
I thought it was.
Like, you're going to come back the same season that you tear your kid?
Like, honestly, you know what he should have done?
Oh, we're out to playoff picture, so I'm not going to risk it.
Yeah.
That's what he probably should have said.
Nobody thought realistically that he could play.
And then you see him throwing a ball, you see him walking around.
You're like, wait, maybe he can.
Is this some new cutting edge technology?
It would, to me, just be best to say, you know, we can't make the playoffs,
so I'm just wait until next year.
That would have been like what
that would have been like obvious.
Like I always feel like something in the last three years,
Aaron's always selling me something.
And I'm like, Aaron, you're not going to be ready.
For the record, I came on the air and said,
Aaron, don't play.
This offensive line can't protect anybody.
Don't play.
I want Aaron hurt again.
He really wants to be in a spotlight.
And as good as he is when, oh, I'll be back this year.
And then he goes back to New York and you see him walking and throwing a ball.
We haven't seen it.
I never torn my Achilles, but I play with guys.
You're not even supposed to put weight on that leg for months.
And he had done it so soon.
And so for Aaron, I'm sure he misses a game.
He wants to be around the game.
And this is the next best thing is the I'm going to play in the game.
Oh, not realistically.
I can't play.
But for Aaron, I just hope next year,
he has a great season because if he doesn't,
a lot of Jets fans, including our guy here, J-Mack,
will be very disappointed.
Okay, so I said this earlier.
I love Seattle's talent.
I like the receivers, their corners, their D-Line,
their tackles, their running backs, their safety.
I love their talent.
I don't think they have a raise-the-trophy guy at quarterback.
I think Gino's been a great story.
I think Drew Locke had a great night.
I can love both.
I think they have to do,
and I'll tell you something.
They're not going to get to the number one pick.
They're not going to get to the number two or three pick.
I'm going to throw a name out there,
and I'm going to lean on your expertise because you know all these kids.
Jaden Daniels at LSU may drop to 8, 9, or 10.
Seattle, if they don't make the playoffs, don't think they will,
is going to draft about 17-18.
I think they have enough talent.
They could move off one of their running backs.
They can move off somebody and get up there,
give you picks and a player.
I think this kid, I think we're sleeping on him.
I thought he was very good at Arizona State.
Once you gave him elite talent, I thought he was a rock star at LSU.
Brian Kelly, by the way, is not the easiest coach.
I like Brian, but he ran through quarterbacks at Notre Dame.
Like, Brian is a rough guy, right?
He's intense.
What do you hear about him?
What do you know about him?
I think he could end up being.
And I say this, knowing I like Caleb Williams.
Daniels is so consistently productive.
What are you here?
I like Jane Daniels a lot, and I'll tell you why.
I don't know him, but I'm very familiar with him.
I saw him improve so much.
He trains out.
He went to LSU.
Yes, but he trains out here.
And last summer, not the 23 summer, the 22 summer,
really thin, inaccurate throwing the ball.
He came back.
This past summer, it's thicker.
He put on weight.
Extremely accurate.
It was like he was out here training so much.
I was like, do you have school?
He was so dedicated to bettering himself as a player.
Is he big enough?
Yes.
Like, Colin, the summer of 22, I must say Jay Daniels is probably 180 pounds.
He's probably 210 right now.
Wow.
Like he, and it was all in his lower body.
He's still thin up.
He's improved so much.
and his quarterback coach Taylor Kelly
told me before the college football season started
bet it
Jay Daniels will win the Heisman.
He told me this before the college football season started
And the improvement is what you said with Brian Kelly
I follow college football
Man he was changing them quarterbacks
And I like Brian he's rough on quarterback
And so for him to stick with Jay Daniel shows you
He really believed in him
And to your Seattle point
You got to get Pete Carroll credit man
Pete Carroll's a hell of a coach
Oh, yeah, of course.
Pete Carroll can coach.
And so if you give him Jay Daniels with his ability to run the ball, his accuracy, strong arm,
you have DK that can really stretch the field vertically.
That's a perfect match.
And jing by the kid from Ohio State.
Jackson is he's so sudden with his movements, not vertically, but laterally his movements.
You know what they remind me of?
Before Tom went to Tampa, Tom chose Tampa, they needed a right tackle.
but they were like 500 with James Winston.
They just weren't good enough a quarterback.
And then Tom goes there, and by a week 10, we're all going,
damn, that roster is stacked.
They just added gronk, drafted a good right tackle.
Seattle?
Tell me their weakness.
Pete will formulate a game plan that benefits Jay Daniels.
And if you look, Jackson Smith and Jigba played with Chris Olive,
Garrett Wilson, and Jackson Smith and Jigba was a leading receiver on that team.
And so he can play.
Now they're just starting to come to him.
But if you put Jay and Daniels on that team,
wow.
And now he's a rookie quarterback on a rookie deal.
Now you can really put other pieces around them.
And you have a chance.
I actually like that a ton.
I don't believe they'll be able to do it because what are you going to have to give up?
There's a lot of people that...
I would give up for a first...
I would have no problem giving up.
Because I think Seattle's roster is young, stacked and cheap.
I'd give up two firsts.
And so...
Move up 10 spots.
Two first.
And that first round picks should be late.
And by the way, if Jayden Daniels hits, who gives a rip?
Yeah.
Who cares?
Seattle doesn't have a hole in the roster.
Just say, here's two first.
We're going to go for it.
Because I watched Seattle last night.
I'm like, they just need a dude.
That is a fast, twitchy athletic roster.
Jake Daniels can play.
So Utah, I want you to take me inside the mind of a pro athlete.
Sean Payton, Russell Wilson, barking.
What are you making that?
That's saucy.
That's not good.
Not for the quarterback.
I've never seen it.
Now, we've seen Brady and McDaniels go at it, but they're going at each other.
And that's a coordinator.
I've never seen a head coach on a sideline go off on a quarterback like that.
Did Ditka go after somebody or buddy?
I mean, it feels like I saw it in the 70s.
But Mike Dicka was kind of crazy.
Yeah.
You know?
But like in today's game, the way quarterbacks are coddled,
They all grow up in this seven-on-seven circuit.
They get their butt kiss.
Pete Carroll coddled Russell Wilson.
That's what made the guys on the defense side of the ball mad in Seattle.
They got mad.
And so now you go to Denver and you got coddled with Hackett.
And to have this happened, and Russell had to have been wrong because he literally just took it like a child.
Like, you got to be careful who you do that with if you're a coach.
You do that to the wrong guys.
Game or no game, it's going to end.
I played with some guys, the coach wouldn't yell at them because they were scared.
Like, we cut him, we got a higher security type of thing.
That's a true story.
We cut a guy.
They hired security.
They were scared of them.
I just never seen a head coach attack a quarterback like that.
Never in practice, let alone a game for everybody to see.
And so to me, that shows me.
Sean Payton is fed up.
I can't see Russell Wilson lasting much longer in Denver.
I don't see it because he's literally taking it like a child.
and he felt like,
oh, what can I do?
What can I say?
I've never seen anything like it.
So, I think there's only one name
the Chargers can hire that won't fail.
Can I say it?
Go ahead.
I'm hiring Harbaugh.
Jim or John, I don't care.
Just hire a Harbaugh.
Harbaas are 2 and O in the NFL.
As soon as Michigan has done with this college football playoff,
Harbaugh, what is it going to take?
Who you want is a gym?
Okay, let's, we'll get that.
done. He has been successful everywhere. Now, at the end of an NFL season, the NFL hands every
franchise the same check. I think last year it was like 430 million bucks. He has been successful
everywhere he's been. At the end of an NFL season, the NFL hands every franchise, the same
check. I think last year it was like 430 million bucks. Give her about 25 million. What do I care?
If you find me the team in the league that has an A quarterback and an A coach,
that doesn't make the playoffs seven of eight years.
I'm Jim.
I'm going.
You got to go because you have one of the better young quarterbacks in the league
and you have a top 10 pick that could possibly be a top five pick.
This roster, everybody, it's a good roster.
It's not what everybody thinks it is.
They don't have a ton of team speed.
They're very average at receiver.
But what Herbert is a quarterback, you have to take this job.
if you're hardball, why would you turn it down?
If you're the Chargers, he should be the first guy that you're looking at.
Well, he's a Michigan man.
He should be a Michigan man.
Money talks.
What is it going to take and he'll leave?
25 million a year.
And you get more time as an NFL coach.
Man, these college coaches, like right now, when they had this boat,
they're out recruiting.
They're flying state to state.
Nick Saban was just out here in California taking house visits.
Like, they don't get time off.
The NFL, at least you'll get a little time off.
You get time off in the NFL.
Yeah, not in college.
Because as soon as the season ends, you got to go recruit.
You don't have a ton of time off.
They have two signing periods now, which has ruined the life of college coaches.
Man, these dudes are flying across the country because you've got early signing period.
You want to lock these kids in and hope they're committed to Michigan.
Oh, let's hope Bama doesn't flip them.
So you got to go into these house visits to make sure these kids are solidified.
And so if I'm the Chargers, Harbaugh is my first and only.
priority.
Now, when you come on next time, I'm going to break down some of these college
quarterbacks and I need info because I know I'm not going to get into it.
You're sitting on stuff.
Yeah, yeah, I got to make sure it's true.
Got to make sure it's true.
But it's a big concern.
Yeah, yeah.
For me, it is.
Now, it could be.
It could be speculation.
I just got to make sure it's true.
That's right.
You're a real journalist.
You've got to have a double sourced.
Yeah.
TJ Hushman's all.
It was good to see you.
Thank you, man.
It's safe.
All right.
J-Mac with a news.
No, no, no, no.
Turn on the news.
This is the herd line news.
I like how you put him on the spot there with the...
I didn't unveil anything, but he's a...
He is a former pro-athlete who does legwork, like no guest I have.
Well, we know he trains a bunch of players out of college.
And he's been right on a bunch of players.
He warned me about Burr... I had Burl being Tony Romo, and he was like, no, dude, he's better than Tony Romo.
And I'm like, I like Tony Romo.
And I'm like, I like Tony Romo. He's better than Tony Romo.
And his best calls was Michael Wilson.
the receiver for the Cardinals. He came on this time with Michael Wilson. Keep an eye on him.
I was the second, third round guy. Remember when everybody was doubting Herbert?
And you were like, he's going to be really good. Burrow and Herbert.
The one that, the one with, uh, is he told me Zach Wilson was one of the best athletes he's trained.
Which is not totally a great athlete. He's a great athlete. He can't see the field.
Can't rate a defense to save his life. Um, anyway, sorry. We love T. Uh, next, let's start with
Kenny Pickett and the Steelers. Colin, he may or may not return from ankle injury.
Steelers desperate for him.
Mason Rudolph in line to start this week.
Terry Bradshaw believes the team needs to build around, yes, Kenny Pickett.
They have got to draft offensive linemen and protect their quarterback,
and Kenny Pickett is the answer to quarterback,
and you've got running backs that can run with a football,
but you're not giving them a crease.
You've got to improve that offensive line.
I don't know.
I'm not a picket guy.
I don't know if I can ride with that.
I thought that at the beginning of the season.
I'll tell you, kid.
It's interesting.
You know, Jordan Palmer comes on this show.
Yeah.
The quarterback whisper.
A month ago, I got the text.
He's like, Jake Browning is going to be a starter in this league.
And I'm like, I watched them at Washington.
Starters?
No, no.
He said he's like, dude can flat play.
And Jordan Palmer knows, I don't know if he said he was a star.
He just told me he said, dude can play.
Well, he clearly can play.
He can clearly play.
I tell you something, Jake Browning, I saw him at college.
I didn't think he had the arm strength to go down field.
I missed.
I think Jake Browning, you're looking at a starter.
What was impressive against the Vikings is he could do nothing for the first three quarters.
And then all of a sudden, in the fourth quarter, just down the field, boom, boom, boom, touchdowns.
And I was like, damn, like, that's impressive.
The resilience that these guys have, Baker Mayfield, we talked about against the Packers.
Like, that's impressive to me.
And I don't know what to make a Browning, but I do know, Kenny Pickett ain't the guy.
I'm not a fan.
I'm out.
Speaking of not the guy, Atlanta Falcons just announced a QB change, Colin.
Oh, Lord.
Desmond freaking Ritter, bent for the second time.
They're going back to my favorite guy, Taylor Heineke, former backup in Washington.
He's a nice kid.
He's been on the show before.
Old Dominion guy, wasn't he?
He was what?
Old Dominion.
Didn't he play?
Oh, D.U. There you go.
I joke that he reminded me of Matt Saracen from Friday Night Lights, like an undersized,
scrappy quarterback.
All those adjectives you used to describe.
You know what this is saying?
this is screaming for Justin Fields in Chicago.
I think you're right.
Screaming for it.
When you start going back and forth, you don't like either one.
Yeah.
Go get Justin Fields.
Give up a second round pick.
Chicago needs a second round pick.
Go get Justin Fields.
I think maybe the larger question is Arthur Smith, you know, the guy who was born on third base, is he still the head coach?
We didn't have to add that in.
What are you talking about?
His dad is like a billionaire.
Well, yeah, but that doesn't mean he hasn't worked.
card. Have you seen any change or anything impressive at all at Arthur Smith?
Go at once the quarterback's not right, go ask Belichick how easy it is to win.
The entitled attitude when he meets the media, when he calls awful plays.
I mean, Desper Ritter, six red zone turnovers. Why is he still throwing the ball in the
red zone? I may have had the Falcons in my pick him, minus three this week.
It kind of killed me. But like, I mean, Ritter should not under any circumstances be throwing the
ball in the red zone. Like, I mean, the guy's a disaster. I knew there was a reason for the
hostile.
He may have. May have. Was that hostile?
shots. I'm like, oh, you lost a bet.
Come on. Arthur Smith.
I mean, Google is who his dad is.
Well, come on. Listen, we know
I don't want to get
it to be an honor. You had a pretty good upbringing.
First born of my family in the country.
Come on. Firmly middle
class. Loving parents.
You haven't even met my parents. They do watch you a lot.
How's Colin doing? I'm like, why do you care?
Because they know I have to be your chaperone
because you're crazy. Okay.
So we saved this the best for last.
Colin, the in-season tournament banner went up in crypto last night.
You know what?
I didn't get to watch the end of this game.
Then Knicks won.
Nick's got the W.
Do you know I saw R.J. Barrett in the elevator the other day?
What a nice kid.
Even my wife.
It's like, what a nice young man.
All right, go ahead.
Anyway, so the in-season tournament, the Lakers won it.
And listen, it's not as big as the other championship banners, but people are upset.
They're going crazy.
I got a bunch of gibronies saying, oh, this is like a participation trophy.
get, no.
You know what?
You and I should hang a banner.
If we have good ratings in December, we should hang a banner just to annoy people, right
from the hang of banner.
Can we hang banners?
Excellent December month, of 21%.
Well, Lakers are one in three since the in-season tournament.
Listen, you and I are logical individuals.
I got no issue with the in-season banner.
Like none whatsoever.
They're not, they didn't make it look like a championship banner.
It clearly looks like a secondary banner.
I'll go back to R.J. Barrett.
I've got to tell you stuff.
When I'm in a hotel elevator with my wife,
and that for a minute and a half,
and she's like, boy, that is a great representation
of a basketball franchise.
She doesn't like sports.
He's a nice kid.
What a nice kid.
I really liked him.
Did he talk to Knicks basketball?
Does he watch a show?
Well, he walked in the elevator.
He went, whoa.
I didn't expect to see you, and I'm like,
I don't expect to see you.
And I'm like, oh, we started talking personnel in the Knicks.
I was breaking down some back court things I didn't like.
And we started breaking down basketball.
You didn't mention that he's been on the trade block for like two years.
So what?
I think the Knicks have a player.
They need one star.
Yeah.
I didn't get to see the end of this game and I've been talking football all day.
It's okay.
You know, Jalen Brunson was good.
The banner, we're making too much of the banner.
It's fine.
They made it a different color.
Show it again.
They didn't make it look like.
They weren't trying to fake people out.
Yeah, a lot of people are like, well, the Lakers have won 50 million championships
and they're going to have.
this crap. Like, I just, the one good point Nick Wright made was like, listen, now maybe people
can freak out, but this is going to be a yearly thing. And by five years, 10 years, you know,
Indiana Pacers are going to have one. Maybe, you know, OKC wins one. Like, it's going to be a thing
around the league. And I got no problem. They got a big banner there, as Nick Wright pointed out,
when they were the Minneapolis. People are so afraid of change in this world. Well, they also are
threatened by success in the Lakers are the most successful franchise in the sport. Did you see Ron Harper,
former Chicago Bull.
What did he say?
Ron Harper said like it's stupid and embarrassing.
Oh, really?
Just another not.
Listen, don't get me started on 90s NBA
when Ron Harper and the Bulls were beating a bunch of expansion teams.
It was the expansion error.
Like, it's factual.
I mean, come on.
NBA right now is just so far ahead of Ron Harper.
Shout out to Ron Harper.
He did play for the Lakers.
He was a good player.
Really good player in his prime.
He's way, way, way wrong.
He was a very good player.
He was a very good, yeah.
I mean, I don't know.
Hey, he was a very good player.
J-Mack, the news.
Well, that's the news.
And thanks for stopping by.
The Hurd-Ly News.
I can read you like a book.
You started taking shots at Arthur Smith.
I'm like, he bet the Falcons.
That's all that was.
It was very bitter.
You got way too worked up over the Atlanta Falcons.
I told you at the start of the season.
I don't bet Falcons games.
I've lost more money in my life betting Atlanta Falcons game.
I just don't understand the franchise.
I may be sitting on a futures over ticket on the Falcons that should have cashed weeks ago.
You ever notice during a season there are certain teams, like for me the Lions, I have a good feel for the Lions.
Like you get a team or two, you're like, oh, I've got a good feel for the Broncos, who I like this week.
Saints, do you have a good feel for the Saints?
No.
Lost multiple times.
I'm done with the Saints.
Somebody just pointed out that Saints Rams Thursday night is basically loser is in deep doo-doo to make the playoffs.
Winner is in amazing shape.
The Rams are only a four-point favorite?
Yeah, that is confusing.
I don't know what to make of the Saints.
I love the Rams.
It's a coaching mismatch.
I bet the Rams, but maybe I feel like it's...
I think it's a coach...
I saw a coaching mismatch this week.
Commanders Rams, this is another coaching mismatch.
It's a quarterback mismatch and a coaching mismatch.
Now, I think the Saints will hang around.
It'll be a competitive game because I like their personnel and their defense.
It'll be one of these, the Rams will lead by three or four.
They'll score late.
They'll cover late.
That's my guess.
But I do think in this era, when you get these brilliant offensive coaches against defense.
Now, last night, Pete's a legendary defensive coach.
He's not just a defensive coach.
Dennis Allen, that team does not look fundamentally well-coached.
Rams are spectacularly coached at home, better quarterback.
I like the Rams.
I'm with you.
All right.
Live in Atlanta, the herd.
Be sure to catch live editions of the herd weekdays in noon Eastern, 9 a.m. Pacific.

Do you remember when Diana Ross double-tapped Little Kim's boobs at the VMAs?
Or when Kanye said that George Bush didn't like black people.
I know what you're thinking.
What the hell does George Bush got to do with Little Kim?
Well, you can find out on the Look Back at it podcast.
I'm Sam Jett.
And I'm Alex English.
Each episode, we pick a here, unpack what went down,
and try to make sense of how we survived it.
Including a recent episode with Mark Lamont Hill,
waxing all about crack in the 80s.
To be clear, 84's big to me not just because of crack.
I'm down to talk about crack on day
but just so y'all know
I mean at this point
Mark this is the second episode
where we've discussed crack
so I'm starting to see
there's a through line
we also have AIDS
on the table right now
so
thank you finishing that sentence
I don't think there's a more important
year for black people
really yeah
for me it's one of the most important years
for black people in American history

All right, this is going to get J-MAC worked up.
We're going to play a game called Brock or Bach, as if I bach on the suggestion.
You give me the two quarterback.
I'm going to consider everything.
Health, money, support.
Which quarterback would I take today?
I'm going to get worked up over this.
Brock, as in pretty, Brock or Bach?
So it would be for like a game this week or going forward?
Just going forward.
Going forward, I have to make a commitment to one of the.
these quarterbacks. Would you take Brock Purdy or Jalen Hertz? Jalen Hurts.
14 rushing touchdowns. When he had the right coordinator like Brock does, he got to a Super
Bowl and he had a lead. I think Brock Purdy has three career rush touchdowns. There's an element
to Jalen's game that Brock does not have. Okay. Would you take Brock Purdy or 47-year-old Matthew
Stafford?
Matt Stafford, who's got three years left.
Matt Stafford has thrown four straight games with a hundred plus pass-er rating.
Four straight.
Purdy has never had a hundred plus pass rating with all those weapons in Shanahan in four straight games.
Wow.
With all those weapons.
I mean, Stafford's doing it with a makeshift online.
This is...
And a rookie wide receiver.
I can see where this is going.
Would you take Brock Purdy or Kyler Murray?
Kyler Murray.
Kyler Murray's never had a Pro Bowl teammate.
Not one offensively.
You've got to be kidding.
You think that's the...
What?
Come on.
Are you serious?
You take Kyler Murray over Brock Purdy?
Kyler's never had a pro-bowl teammate on office.
All right.
Okay.
And he's had coaches that have been fired.
Okay.
Would you take Brock Purdy or Russell Wilson?
Because Russell's 35 and expensive and has some diminishing athleticism,
I would take going forward Purdy.
Okay.
I mean, Purdy cost 9.
$900,000 a year. Next year, Russell costs $48.5 million. So again, Russell four years ago,
Russell at $30 million is different, but I have to consider the price tag. Also, is my coach,
Sean Payton, I think Purdy fits that offense better than Russ. Okay. Would you take Brock Purdy
or C.J. Stroud? This was one of the worst offenses in pro football last year. Still has a
makeshift O-line. So they've gone from the second worst scoring offense to a legitimate
productive offense with one major change.
Tank Dell and C.J. Stroud.
Can you imagine C.J. Stroud with Debo, I.U., Kittle,
Christian McCaffrey, Trent Williams.
Scoring.
They would make them.
Didn't you have all those guys at Ohio State with it, and they...
And he scored 40 a game.
But they didn't win a title.
No, didn't win a title. There's 130 Division I teams.
Did you take Brock Purdy or Lamar Jackson?
Lamar Jackson.
You know Lamar has never had a Pro Bowl wide receiver?
That's two of them.
by the way, that's not Lamar.
Now, now, that one...
Oh, did I skip Tua, my bad?
Yeah, you're bad.
All right, my bad.
No, it's not paying attention.
You're still bitter about the Falcon.
I'm just so shook by all these...
You ought to be kidding me.
That's not even close.
Lamar Jackson, I'm not going to fight you.
Okay, let's go back.
Would you take Brock Purdy or Tua Tungavalo?
Okay, so I have to consider everything.
And I think right now Tua, because of...
You know, they both have the same system and a brilliant coach.
I would take Brock Purty.
I'm really worried about paying Tua with those concussions.
I know we haven't had her in a while.
I can't get over it.
I just, two has been banged up.
I worry about it.
I also think Perti, they're both athletic enough.
But I think between Saybitt and Mike McDaniel,
two has been elevated, you know, the receivers and so is Pertie.
But the concussion thing scares me.
Also, you've got to commit to him financially, and I'm not comfortable.
Okay.
All right.
Heads will explode here.
Would you take Brock Purdy or Trevor Lawrence?
Trevor Lawrence.
the Jags were 12 and 36th
the three years before Trevor got there
that was the worst record in the league
and he got him to the playoffs and won a playoff game
I mean that's a circus of an organization
how many playoff wins is Brock Purdy have I forgot
oh two
would you rather take
Brock Purdy or
Jack Prescott
Jack Prescott
This is I mean this is wild
DAC has to be, he has to deal with Jerry Jones.
He's got to deal with the pressure.
Dak Prescott's got a deal.
Being the cowboy quarterback is being the star for the Lakers or the Yankee manager.
There's a totally different level of heat.
So you would take Brock over Dak.
Would you take final one?
Brock Purdy or your boy, Jared Goff?
I'm going to ask you a question.
No, no, you got an answer first.
Come on.
Who leads the NFL in passing yards and big pass plays since becoming a starter in 2017?
In the league.
Zach Wilson?
Jared Gough.
I'll take Goss.
Geez, I did not know that.
For the record, I've said this before.
Would you agree with this?
That coaches tell you what they're comfortable with with their quarterback by the calls they play.
Yeah, I would agree.
Niners throw less than every team in the league.
With Debo, I.
Usually because they're up by 20 in the fourth quarter and they're just running out the clock with backup running backs.
Is there any way we could get a graphic on the screen with all, what is this, 10?
It seemed like you took Brock Purdy maybe once or twice.
I took him over to his injury concerns.
And I think Russell...
Over Russell Wilson.
Well, he's...
Russell's going to be $49 million next year.
And he's 35.
I think he's good.
But there are some diminishing returns on his athletic ability.
I think he's maintained it.
Yeah.
This is fascinating.
This is why I love this...
This is why I love, like, talking about sports, right?
If we did this in Tom Brady's second year,
after he won a Super Bowl...
I guarantee you we would have been like Tom Brady or, you know, Peyton Manning or whoever.
And we would have scoffed and you would have had like Tom Brady over like two guys.
Tom Brady goes on to be the greatest ever.
I'm not saying Brock Purdy's going to be the greatest ever.
But I would love to revisit this in like five years.
I just, listen, I'm not going to sit here and fight you on it.
You know, Lamar Jackson, obviously.
But I would just love to revisit.
What if Purdy in five years is selling hot tubs?
I'm just saying I don't think he will be.
but I think
nobody knows
and that's the beauty
the teams don't know
the players themselves don't know
you see you've cornered me
that I don't like him
this is like
I don't think I need to corner this is like
this is like Mercedes or BMW
and I go Mercedes and you're like
oh you hate BMW
no I just chose Mercedes
this is like you can live in Malibu or Laguna
Malibu oh you hate Laguna
no I'm just you're giving me these choices
between Lamar
and you know you're giving me all these great choices
and then you're like or Brock Purdy
Why didn't you give me other guys drafted in the seventh round?
Justin Fields, I could have given you Justin Field.
I take Brock Purdy.
Desmond Ritter.
Brock Purdy.
Daniel Jones.
Brock Purdy by mile.
You take Brock Purdy over a scrubbers.
You gave me like 10 pro bowlers.
And then you're like, oh, you hate him.
I just want to know what the guy has to do.
I want to know what he has to do.
If you said Kirk Cousins, I'd say Brock Purdy.
Ooh, Kurt Cousins.
Wow.
Kurt's been a good player.
He's a very good player.
I'm exhausted.
Third.
