my grandmother had posters on her wall
of old school matches

And we would watch American wrestling

And she, as did many back then,
was fully convinced
that wrestling was 100% real.

From the Berkshires to the sound.
From wherever you live in MLB America,
this is Inside the Parker.
You give us 22 minutes and we'll give you the scoop on Major League Baseball.
Now here's Baseball Hall of Fame voter number 103,
Rob Parker.
Welcome into Inside the Parker.
your Major League Baseball podcast.
Of course, playoff edition.
Rob Parker here.
You there coming up on the program.
We'll talk with WUSA sports director, Darren Haynes.
He'll talk about the nationals as they move on to the World Series.
That and much more coming up.
Let's go.
To lead off, it's getting robbed.
And keep them on.
Rob's hot take on the three biggest stories in Major League.
Baseball.
Number one.
The Washington Nationals are going to the World Series.
I know you've listened to this podcast.
I've been talking about them all postseason long, but they did it.
And this is an incredible, a four-game sweep of the St. Louis Cardinals, and they're on their way.
It is an incredible run when you think about where this franchise has come from, what win.
Bryce Harper walked out on them a big superstar.
They started 19 and 31.
They were in trouble.
Everybody wanted Dave Martinez, their manager to get fired.
And what do they do?
They make the wild card, win the wild card game,
finally advanced for the first time after so many disappointments,
so many bad memories in the postseason.
And then they knock out the vaunted.
and feared Los Angeles Dodgers.
They do it in a game five in L.A.
And then they move on to take on the St. Louis Cardinals
and are able to make it happen in a four-game sweep.
It is an incredible, incredible ride.
And they have punched their ticket to the World Series,
the first team to do so.
Congratulations to the Washington Nationals.
they deserve it.
They've earned it.
Pitching.
Hitting.
Power.
They've done it all.
Who would have ever thought that the Montreal Expo's, yes.
That's who they were before they moved to Washington,
would finally get there and make it to the World Series, but they have.
Number two.
The Houston Astros have come storming back.
After the Yankees won game one, six to nothing.
And looked as if they might...
Last night, a blown call changed a game.

Highlights are trending.
Opinions are flying.

Welcome to my new podcast, Learn the Hardway with me, your host, and your favorite therapist,
Kier Games. And in recognition of Mental Health Awareness Month, I'm bringing over a decade of my
own experience in the mental health field and conversations with so many incredible guests.
I'm talking. Trip Fontaine, Ryan Clark. Sometimes when we're in the pursuit of the thing,
we get so wrapped up in the chase that we don't realize that we are in possession of the thing.
And we're still chasing it. And we don't know when we've done enough.
Because people scoreboard watch. Life becomes about wins and losses. Steve Burns,
Dustin Ross, because you find it important to be a good person while you hear on earth,
or are you a good person because you're afraid?
Because that's two different intentions, bro.
Absolutely.
And that's two different levels of trust.
I want you to just really be a good person.

What's up, guys?
This is Clifford Taylor the Fourth.
And on my podcast, the Clifford Show,
I'm bringing you conversations about all kinds of stuff.
Like being an internet famous referee.
We're in the middle of a game.
This linebacker walks up to me, he goes,
hey, ref, my mom wants you to wave at her.
What?
Time out.
Quarterback on office blue with 42.
Hey, rep, my mama want you to wave at her.
What?
Where's she at?
Hey, Miss Park.
Listen to the Cliverts show on the IHeart Radio app,
Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcast.
What's up, fam? It's Isaiah Thomas.
And I'm C.J. Toledano, and our podcast, Point Game is about defining the odds.
Like LeBron heading into the playoffs without Luca and Austin Reed.
And finding ways to win no matter what.
He's the smartest player to ever play the game.
His IQ is at a level that we've never seen before.
And he knows.
Without Luca and Austin Reeves, I got to manipulate the game.
We get a player's perspective on the challenges of the playoffs.
I think Joker's going to be exhausted this series
because when they don't have Rudy in the lineup,
he has to really guard guys like Nas Reid.
He has to guard Julius Randall.
And then he has to give us everything he gives us
on the night-to-night bases on offense.
And when IT's friends stop by, like Quentin Richardson,
we dive into some playoff history too.
Steve Nass would get that thing.
That man, hell get the flying.
He running up the court, licking his fingers,
why he got the ball, like,
After you go through a training camp with that, Isaiah, you figure it out real quick.
Get your ass up and down the court, and you're going to get the ball.
So listen to Point Game on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts.
Try to steal two games in Houston.
Houston has turned the tables, winning that dramatic game, too, in Houston on a walk-off home run by Correa.
That was awesome.
crowd went wild
and then they come to the Bronx
game three
and they get it done with
Garrett Cole their main guy on the mound
he wasn't outstanding
he had five walks but he pitched to shut out
through seven innings
kept the Yankees at bay
they just couldn't get the big hit
and somehow some way the Astros
have regained their
home field advantage
by winning in the Bronx
and now they're up two to
Here's the only caveat and the tough part.
The weather is expected to be bad in New York for game four.
If they do postpone the game four, you could have a situation where they play four games in a row.
And what could happen there is that could give the Yankees an advantage because they're so deep and their bullpen is so deep.
So that's the only thing to take a look at.
The Yankees obviously are not out of this series as well.
They did what they needed to do, which was the winner game in here.
Houston. All they need is the equalizer in game four. And then you would have a situation of the
best two out of three scenario. So this is going to be interesting. Some people have said this is
the World Series. I'm not so sure anymore because Washington is that good and is playing so well.
So here we are. The Astros up two to one. Yankees looking to tie it and get back. I can't wait
to watch the rest of the series, I think it will be compelling.
And we will have one of those powerhouse teams in the AL taking on the Washington Nationals.
Teathing can be a real nightmare for your little ones.
So are you looking for the best relief to soothe teething pain?
Well, Highlands Natural's Baby Oral Pain Relief can help ease the pain.
It's gentle, natural active ingredients like chamomile and arnica.
They'll soothe your baby's mouth and gums.
No chemicals, no funny business.

I'm always upgrading my car.
Not because I need to, because I want to.
Today, it's custom rims from my ride.
Tomorrow, it might be a new driver's side seat cushion.
And eBaymotors.com always has what I need.
They've got over 122 million car parts, all at the right price.
That's perfect for me, because I'm a car guy.
Are you still in the garage? It's two in the morning.
Almost done.
Okay, I'm a car fanatic.
eBay Motors, let's ride.

I can post a picture that a girl that is way skinnier than I am, a size 2, a size 4,
the same exact picture.
And I look vulgar because I'm thicker.
But if a thinner girl does it, it's not that much of a big deal.
And that's what I'm not okay with.
Because why?
Why?
Because I have cellulite because I have thick thighs.
I can't do that.
I can't feel sexy in my own skin.
And those are the things that I want to break because there are so many women like me.
And I want to be and represent us, you know?
Obviously, there's always room for improvement.
I always want to look better.
I want to work out.
I want to lose weight.
But in reality, this is the body God gave me.
And I've never really been skinny.
Listen to the My Cultura Podcast Network,
available on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts,
or wherever you listen to podcasts.
It's time for the Pocket Protector Central.
The analytic numbers you need to know, well, maybe.
FS1's Anthony Masterson is his name.
BS Analytics is his game.
What do you got for us, Anthony?
All right, Rob, I know we talked about win probability added on a podcast.
but using win probability graphs to add up how clutch a player is throughout a given season.
But what that doesn't bring up is the moments when it takes to be the most clutch,
and we're seeing it right now, the postseason.
But that may all be changing.
Dan Hirsch, a web developer at Sports Reference,
has developed a new type of win probability added for postseason in the wildcard era.
And the names on the top of the list are the ones you would probably expect.
Now, basically what this does if you forgot is measure how much a player increased or decreased their team's chances
of winning a championship.
Now, even with a game 7 loss on his pleasure,
no surprise, Rob,
Mariano Rivera is far and away to leader
since 1995 with a postseason win probability added
of 11.5 overall,
really eight more than the next closest player, David Ortiz.
And his World Series WPA of 1.8 is by far the highest in that regard as well.
The only player even remotely close to Mo is Madison Bungarner,
who comes in with a World Series WPA of 1.2.
But the clutch is five players in the playoffs since 1995.
Moat won.
Big Poppy number two, Fox's own.
Albert Poolewolds, Andy Pettit,
and his surprising addition, Wade Davis,
who made his money with the 2015 Royals getting them a title in Kansas City.
My man, Anthony.
Thank you.
Appreciate you.
That ball is.
It was a big week in the big leagues.
Who's up?
Who's up?
I know.
Or is it fair?
And now?
Here's shadowleague.com, MLB insider, J.R. Gamble.
Former MLB slugger Carlos Beltran, he wants to manage.
But he only wants to interview and consider one job.
That's for the New York Metropolitans, not the Cubs, not the Padres.
J.R., is it foul or fair for a guy with no experience to dictate what job he wants?
Fair.
It's a fair ball.
In this case, it's fair.
For most coaching candidates, especially ones of color, any job is a good job,
because they don't risk the opportunities often.
Beltran, however, is a special case.
He's not that far removed from playing, and he's still a hot commodity,
a 400 homer, 300-field guy who performed great.
You know, with the exception of that Adam Wainwright curveball,
he had a great career there.
The Mets fans just don't let him.
down. This might be a chance for him
to gain some redemption. Also,
his baseball acumen and experience
is great, and he's already
reserved as a special assistant with the
Yankees, so we understand
New York and the coach. His family
lives in New York, and I doubt
he wants to pick up right now and relocate
again. While the Cubs' job
is a prime job, it doesn't
fit for Beltran. And the Padre's
job, well, might as well
give it to Mani Machado. He's the only one
who wants to go there. If Beltran was
desperate, it's a job worth taking.
He'd be nuts not to do it.
But teams are seeking him out.
So he has the leverage to say yes or no.
Besides, I think he's a great fit in New York.
Fasten your seatbelt.
Give you fuel, give me five, give me that what I desire.
Here comes Parker's top three MLB teams this week.
Number three.
The New York Yankees.
All year I've talked about them being the number one team and they're in the top three.
But right now at this point, down 2 to 1 in the ALCS.
They have won an impressive game 1, have lost the last 2.
So the Yankees are the third best team left in the playoffs at this point.
Number 2.
The Houston Astros who have survived.
Game 1 shutout at home have bounced back with two big wins against the Yankees
to take the lead in the best of seven series.
Of course, they had the big walkoff in game two,
and then they go into the Bronx and shut down the big bats
with Garrett Cole and take a two-to-one lead against the Yankees.
Yes, the Astros, as we speak, are the second best team left in the postseason.
Number one.
Yes, the Washington Nationals.
I said that they would make it to the World Series.
I predicted them to beat the Dodgers.
I predicted them to beat the Cardinals, but I didn't think it would be this easy.
Who knew that they could dominate the Cardinals this much?
Sweep them in four games, dominate with pitching,
get big hits, timely hits.
Right now, no one's playing better in baseball than the Washington Nationals.
they are the best team left in the postseason as we speak.
It's time for Trash Talk Twitter.
Your chance to trash anyone or anything in Major League Baseball.
This week's winner is Ed Slow Shower.
And he tweeted this.
So enjoying the game with the volume off,
Joe Buck is unbearable to listen to.
Wow, I think Joe Buck's pretty good.
If you want a chance to win a new era snapback hat, like Eddie, send your trash to at Rob Parker, FS1 on Twitter.
When Rob was a newspaper columnist, he lived by this motto.
If I'm writing, I'm ripping.
Let's bring in a writer or broadcaster, older new.
All right, now let's welcome to the podcast, Darren Haynes, the sports director and Maine sports.
anchor for WUSA in Washington, D.C.
and a good close friend of mine, Darren, what's happening?
Just enjoying this moment, man.
What an amazing run by the national.
I mean, on what on May 20th.

Third, when he had the second worst record in the National League, who would expect this team to now be just on the doorstep of the World Series?
No doubt about it.
And there's so many great stories.
I figured that they would be the Dodgers' worst nightmare because of the pitching.
And now any team's worst nightmare because the pitching is so good.
Talk about Steven Strassberg and what he's been able to do.
He now has the third lowest postseason ERA in history with the 1.10 ERA.
Well, Stephen Strausser, I mean, the dude has been a beast.
this entire postseason, I mean.
But let's look at this even just more than just
Steven Strasbourg. I mean, you get in
Honolvall Sanchez, who's the fourth
basically fourth spring pitcher for the
nationals and what he did on
basically tossing that no hitter going into the eighth inning
and Max Schurz did the same thing going
into the seventh. And of course
those 12 strikeouts by
Stephen Strausberg, that's a postseason career
high. It's great to see
Steven Strausper do what Stephen
Straub normally does. But
the fact that basically three of
the starting pitchers, how much they can dominate a team like the Cardinals and what they did,
of course, against the Dodgers.
I mean, speak volumes about this team.
How about the whole atmosphere in D.C.?
This is a town, especially when you talk about baseball, that has seen a lot of sad and
disappointing moments, have had their hearts broken.
Are people guarded there?
Are people just enjoying the moment?
Well, definitely now.
enjoying the moment. I think everyone in their
mama knows here in D.C. that
the nationals are going to the World Series.
For a team to come back
down 3-0, it's very unlikely.
I believe it's only happened once in the best of seven series.
So everyone knows that
the nationals are going to make the World Series.
It's just only a matter of time. Everybody wants to do it
today, but I was walking in the ballpark. People give
me a high-five. Mark Lerner was
down here. He was talking about his dad, Ted
Lerner, the owners of the nationals,
and he was explaining, like, you know,
this would be such a good birthday because Ted Lerner turned 94 years old today.
How about that as a birthday gift if the nationals can get it done?
So everybody is just super excited.
Everybody knows this is going to be a great experience for the city of D.C.
next week when they're in the World Series.
It's just a matter of just winning that one game.
Like Dave Martinez says all the time, just go 1 and 0.
But everybody wants them to go 1 and 0 today, not in game 5, 6 or 7.
How about just D.C.?
I mean, they won us the Caps, won a Stanley Cup?
I know the Redskins are still terrible, and the nationals are good.
Let me put up, we've got to say it right.
2018, the Washington Capitol won the Stanley Cup, and then our arena football team,
which is owned by the same people as the Washington Capitol,
the Washington Valor, they won the Arena Football League.
And let's not forget, just last week, the Washington Mystics won the WNBA title,
their first in franchise history.
How about that for two years in Washington, D.C.?
I thought D.C. was filled with losers, but apparently not, right?
Until I got there, man.
That's right.
Until I got there.
Then we started winning.
It's just going to take me a little bit longer to work on the Washington Rescans.
That's a bigger and more difficult project.
That may be an 18-year plan, but I'm working on it.
The Washington Nationals, what a story.
It's great for baseball.
Who could have imagined, Darren, that losing Bryce Harper, starting out 19,
and 31, and they would be on the cusp of a World Series.
It's amazing.
One of my colleagues tweeted it yesterday, I thought it was absolutely hilarious.
But they're like, you know what, this moment, this NLCS, this game for a chance to move
on to the World Series is absolutely briceless.
What a briceless moment.
That is outstanding.

Here's why MLB is better than the NFL or NBA,
and it isn't even close.
Reason number 2,59,
why baseball is better than the NFL.
NBA and the NFL, and yes, we still have league championship series to go.
We still have the World Series to go.
But it's the off-season hot stove league.
The NBA had a great one this past year.
I'll give it to them with where players were going to go and they were like 200 free agents.
But that's not the norm.
But in baseball, after the postseason, the hot stove league is the best thing
fans can dive into because there are trades in baseball, many more than the NFL or the NBA
and their free agents moving and whatnot.
And this year, there's so much suspense and all the other stuff that's going to go with
it, especially because Stephen Strasbourg, yes, that horse for the Washington Nationals,
he can opt out of his contract.
Can you imagine coming off this postseason?
He still has four years, $100 million.
left on a deal.
He's 31 years old.
But talk about the intrigue and the interest.
Will he stay?
Will he go?
You know?
The Dodgers have Rayu and Hill.
Those two guys are heading to free agency.
What will the Dodgers do?
Will they move on?
Will they try to resign these guys?
There's all kinds of stuff out there.
about pitching.
And you know pitching moves baseball.
So there's a lot of big names that are going out there.
And the other thing is, when we get back to Strasbourg,
the other thing is there's talk.
You know, he's from San Diego.
Is he going to go to the Padres, his hometown team kind of,
and finish out his career there
and take a boatload of money.
They've got some good young players in San Diego.
Maybe they're trying to build something.
they're looking for an over-the-top hurler.
So all this stuff plays into what is going to be
a great post-playoffs season.
Yes, the Hot Stove League and Major League Baseball is better
than any off-season in the NFL
and any off-season in the NBA.
In the words of New York TV legend,
the late Bill Jorgensen,
thanking you for your time this time until next time.
