A lot of good teams. Joy Taylor is joining me on a Tuesday today. Good morning. Well, well, well. You know, extra time.
Starting point is 00:03:03 means extra preparation. If you get extra time two weeks to prepare for a test, you better nail it. If you have two weeks to prepare for a party, it better be good. If you have two weeks to prepare for your wife's anniversary,
Starting point is 00:03:20 you've got to do better than a card. Okay, my wife's already preparing for Thanksgiving dinner, a couple weeks out. Okay, so she's prepared. Extra time generally insured more detail, better job. What I watched last night was the Dallas Cowboys off a buy. They had two weeks to prepare.
Starting point is 00:03:44 And that's what they gave me. That was like showing and inviting all your relatives over for Thanksgiving that you prepared two weeks for and saying, walking out, saying, hey, what do you guys want to do for dinner? Anybody got the ideas on dinner? Jason Garrett, that was awful. No juice. Two weeks to prepare.
Starting point is 00:04:03 18 first downs off a by. Under 300 yards total offense on a buy. 72 yards rushing on a buy. 25 minutes time of possession on a buy. That's the kind of game you get fired over. By the way, Andy Reid off a buy is 19 and 5. Bill Belichick off a buy is 30 and 13. Mike McCarthy off a buy is 12 and 5.
Starting point is 00:04:32 Sean Payton, Mike Tomlin, Urban Meyer in college is 24 and one off a buy. Jason Garrett's sub 500. What does that tell you? That extra time doesn't help this staff and doesn't help Jason Garrett. I don't know what else you've got to see. But if you have two weeks to prepare for a test or a date or a party or Thanksgiving or an anniversary, you can't mail it in with that.
Starting point is 00:04:59 And what's really troubling for Dallas, they were terrible in the red zone. Well, what is the red zone? It play calling, situational, execution. For the record, the Tennessee Titans were playing off a buy. Did you notice how great they were on third down? They were excellent. That's the best Marcus Mario does ever been in a third down. Did you notice how good the Titans were in the red zone?
Starting point is 00:05:23 Four to five trips to touchdown. The only issues the Titans had last night are fumbles, and that has nothing to do with coaching. I mean, that was embarrassing. The Titans offensive coordinator was the Rams OC a year ago. Matt Lefleur. He had two weeks to prepare. You see what you got there in Tennessee? Marcus Marietta, that's as good as he's ever been situationally.
Starting point is 00:05:47 And Jason Garrett and Dak, and here's the amazing thing about Jason Garrett. It's not like he was a popular player. It's not like he has a big personality. It's not like he's a legend. I get firing Tom Landry was hard. I get if Troy Aikman was the coach of the Cowboys, that would be a hard guy to fire. That would reverberate through the Dallas Metroplex, right?
Starting point is 00:06:07 I get that. Jason Garrett's not a big personality. His resume is nine years, 500 coach, the only exception when he leaves the league in rushing. Well, good luck with that. I mean, you don't get that very often. I mean, there are statement wins and there are statement losses. At home, off a buy.
Starting point is 00:06:26 against a struggling offense, and you made that offensive. It wasn't for fumbles. I don't even think I'm not even embellishing. If it's not for fumbles, that game could have been 28-0. I mean, what else does Jerry Jones need to see? That was brutal. I mean, we got nine years of a 500 coach, and I'm telling you, when you look at the best coaches in football,
Starting point is 00:06:48 off a buy, they all win generally twice as much as they lose. Tomlin, Peyton, Belichick, McCarthy, Gruden even, Reed, Harbaugh. Look at their winning percentages off a buy, 650, 7, 50. John Harbaugh, 10 and 2. Urban Meyer, 24 and 1, Nick Sabin's record. What was that? That was atrocious. 14 days to prepare, and Dallas was situationally embarrassing.
Starting point is 00:07:23 I'm not a guy that calls for people's, John. But if that doesn't get him run, I don't know what does. Not good enough. I mean, just not good enough. And juxtaposed with the Titans who also have a young quarterback who's kind of struggling. And they have some wide receiver issues too like Dallas. It was kind of like watching two teams going through the same stuff. The difference is, I mean, even both teams had a buy.
Starting point is 00:07:50 The difference is one of them was tremendous situationally last night off a buy. One was pathetic. All right, let me shift to this. Patriots play Tennessee next. So the Patriots were watching Tennessee last night. Belichick was watching, but more importantly, Tom Brady said it after the game against Green Bay. I'll be watching Monday Night Football.
Starting point is 00:08:13 We play Tennessee next. Well, well, well, well, well. I hope Tom Brady was watching that game because did anybody notice who really struggled for Tennessee? Malcolm Butler is an utter. disaster. He's a cornerback that Bill Belichick let go. And all the Patriot players, including Tom Brady, banged on Belichick. He doesn't know what he's doing. Bill lost us the Super Bowl. No, Bill didn't lose the Super Bowl. Somebody hit Tom Brady's army fumbled. That lost the Super Bowl. By the way, Belichick did not lose the Super Bowl. New England never punted. Tom Brady's last three drives in that
Starting point is 00:08:54 Super Bowl. Touchdown, touchdown, touchdown, all 75 yards. And then he finally got the ball one more time, and he was driving for the winning touchdown. And Philly couldn't stop him. And their defensive players was gasped. And it was going to look like every Super Bowl Tom Brady's been in. One possession. Here comes Tom, beat Seattle, beat Atlanta, beat. And he fumbled. It was not about Malcolm Butler, who Belichick decided to sit. And there was a reason Belichick decided to sit Malcolm Butler. Because when Belichick bails on a relationship, he's the world's best bailer. He's right, always. I mean, he's, Chandler Jones has been pretty good in Arizona,
Starting point is 00:09:30 but Chandler Jones had stuff off the field and was getting super expensive and hasn't won any games for Arizona if you've watched them play. Belichick was right on Nate Solder. He was right on Dionne Lewis. He was right on Danny Amandola, and he's right on Malcolm Butler. By the way, the data was in, but everybody got too emotional because Belichick's the most powerful coach and the most powerful sport, and he mocks the media, and everybody was waiting for an opportunity to seize on him.
Starting point is 00:09:56 We don't like all that power bill's got. And so they lose the Super Bowl. Malcolm Butler, that's the reason you're a bum. You're no good. You don't know what you're doing. Malcolm Butler was benched in the Super Bowl because in the previous two playoff games, he was targeted 11 times, eight completions, two touchdowns. And the passer rating 146 from Blake Bortles and Marcus Marietta.
Starting point is 00:10:16 He needed to be benched. And by the way, the guy that caught the touchdowns against Butler didn't have a Touchdown catch all year before Malcolm Butler in which he had two. Listen, Belichick was right on Nate Soulder. He was right on Amindola. He was right on Corey Dillon. He was right on every guy he's bailed on. Malcolm Butler can't play anymore.
Starting point is 00:10:45 He can't play. I think he's rated like the 132nd, according to pro football focus, like the 132nd corner in the league right now. And they paid him 30 minutes. million dollars. So when Bill Belichick, Tom Brady and all you Patriot players, Bill doesn't know what he's doing, Bill Costs the Super Bowl, Bill Belichick's a dummy, Bill Belichick's the reason we lost them. When Belichick walks into Patriot Place today, I hope he walks in like Connor McGregor in an octagon. Get a load of me. Look at me. Who's feeling good about themselves today?
Starting point is 00:11:27 Bill Belichick should do the Connor McGregor Octagon Walk. Because all you Patriot players, he lost us to Super Bowl. He doesn't know what he's doing. He's no good. He's right again. Malcolm Butler is a shot corner.
Starting point is 00:11:48 And New England appears to be once again the best team in the AFC. if not all of football. It's like that hurts there. His heads on backwards for our TV audience. Coming up next, big show today.
Starting point is 00:12:09 Doug Gottlie, Peter King, Kareem Jackson in studio, Houston Texans. They're on a winning streak, baby. DeAngelo Hall. Coming up next, absolutely. Great news for the Philadelphia Eagles. Great news for the Washington Redskins. Great news. Believe it or not for the New York Giants,
Starting point is 00:12:27 the Green Bay Packers. the New Orleans Saints, Cam Newton, the L.A. Rams, the entire NFC. Great news coming up next. Hi, it's the herd, guys. So great news if you're a Philadelphia Eagle fan. long-term, great news if you're a Packer fan, a Viking fan, an L.A. Ram fan.
Starting point is 00:14:02 I mean, just great news for everybody in the NFC, all the NFC teams. And the news is Jerry Jones in Dallas was talking this morning about the future of the Dallas Cowboys, the quarterback position as it's become an incredibly quarterback-driven league, especially with all the rule changes this year. I mean, you can't, I mean, look who's leading all the divisions. Brady and Ben and, I mean, you go, God. and Philip Rivers, Mahomes. It's, you know, Breeze and Cam and all the top quarterbacks are leading their division,
Starting point is 00:14:34 except Aaron Rogers, but, you know, there's some other issues there. But here's what Jerry said this morning on Dallas radio about DAC and the quarterback position in Dallas. Dak is last night. You don't have anybody that's more capable to look at. Is he a quarterback for the next 10 years? Dak is the quarterback of the Dallas Cowboys. He's young, and he's going to get extended. Well, if you're in Philadelphia this morning, you have got, you thought they threw a parade after the Super Bowl.
Starting point is 00:15:12 I get Carson Wentz, you get Dak for the next 10 years. I got to be honest about that. Now, just think about this. He's now the least efficient quarterback in his division. Well, there's Eli. Think about this way. There were the last four games we've seen in the NFL. Let's think about the last four NFL games on TV.
Starting point is 00:15:32 It was Rivers against Russell Wilson, golf against Bree, Rogers against Brady and Marioada against Dak Prescott. He was easily the least spectacular and the least efficient and the least talented. Those are the last four games we have watched in America on the NFL. And the last eight quarterbacks, Mario dapper is the seventh best, Dax the eighth, and there's a massive gap apparently between those two. And I was thinking about this this morning. I hope whenever, you know, Joy, I think I've told you this.
Starting point is 00:16:04 I call it pen to paper that, you know, a lot of times you think about stuff, I think about stuff and you think something's right, but you got to put pen to paper and write it down. Like your budget at home. You're like, you know, I think I'm saving enough. I don't think I'm wasting money. Put a pen to paper and see what you spend a month. And it's like, oh, I'm throwing 400 bucks away a month. Put a pen to paper.
Starting point is 00:16:27 Get that yellow pad of a pen and write down what you spend a month and how much on coffee. And sometimes you got to put a pen to paper. So let's put a pen to paper. There are 13 quarterbacks that nobody, even in Dallas, a cowboy fan could not argue, are inferior or are superior to DAC. Brady's better, Breeze is better, Matt Ryan's better, Rogers, Mahomes, Rivers, Cam, Russell, Luck, Big Ben, Wentz, Gough, Deshawn Watson. You can't make an argument. I mean, if you called my show and said one of those wasn't as good as Dak, I'd hang up on you. I literally, if I was having a party at my house and you said Dak's better than one of those 13, I throw you out of the house.
Starting point is 00:17:04 even if it was Thanksgiving and a relative. You can't argue those. So at best, he's the 14th best quarterback in the league. Okay, then I have another list of nine guys who are all right now better statistically. And I think better. Alex Smith, Stafford, Kirk Cousins, Andy Dalton, Flacco, not much better. Ryan Fitzpatrick, Jimmy G, Mitch Trubisky, and Marcus Marietta. So there's 13 who are star quarterbacks.
Starting point is 00:17:31 And there are nine who are better statistically, Flacco, barely. He's the 23rd best quarterback in the league. Maybe I'm wrong on flacco. He's 22nd. What is Jerry got to see? Jerry announcing this morning, they're giving Dak Prescott an extension. And by the way, I admit, I didn't like him out of college. I didn't. I said he was a better t-bow. He just can't throw the ball down the field. Then he had this a bizarre rookie year, and I'm like, okay, I was wrong. I don't know. And then by the middle of year two, I'm like, I like him as a kid, but he's not much of a thrower. I'm out.
Starting point is 00:18:11 Folks, look around. Look around the league. College football is going to give us four more great quarterbacks this year. And that two, a kid at Alabama's coming out in two years, and he looks like the next Russell Wilson. Man, be very careful writing $100 million checks. But Jerry says that's the guy. Hey, Philadelphia.
Starting point is 00:18:35 It's time for another parade. Joy Taylor with the news. No, no, no, no, no. Turn on the news. This is the herd line news. Rough night for the Cowboys last night we dropped the 3 and 5, which put them in bigger danger of missing the playoffs
Starting point is 00:18:50 for the second consecutive season. However, Ezekiel Elliott, apparently, is not that concerned. Just the fact that, you know, we're not out of it. They're only two games with buying the division. And so, I mean, we have a lot of ball left. And, I mean, we just got to figure out fast how to get things up. What happened to the two of them?
Starting point is 00:19:14 It was like Dak and Zeke taken over the world. It's a new wave that Dallas Cowboys are going to be a dynasty again. And now we don't even know if Dak should be the quarterback of the Cowboys next year. Well, I will say this. Zeke's a great talent. For sure. I'll make an argument here that Dak Prescott's rookie year is one of the most unexplainable things of my life. It was a perfect storm.
Starting point is 00:19:41 His division was down. Nobody had tape on him. The offensive line for the Cowboys was great and completely healthy. But now that O line is banged up. Now everybody's got tape on Dak. I didn't like him out of college. Then I was just like, okay, well, I whiffed on that one. But, yeah, it's, I still.
Starting point is 00:20:01 think Zeek's a great, I don't think he's girly, but he's still a great player. Zique is still great. I just, I felt like their rookie season, it was like you said, it's just unexplainable. It was tremendous. And then last year, I feel like I kind of gave them a pass as a team.
Starting point is 00:20:17 They had some major injuries, and then the whole situation with Zeech's case, is he in, is he out? And this season was, to me, the season to determine if this was a real thing. Yeah. You know what? Joy, Miracle on Ice. is unexplainable.
Starting point is 00:20:32 A bunch of college kids shouldn't be the world's best hockey team. Well, they don't call it a miracle for nothing. That's right. There are things in sports that don't make any sense. So, Dax's rookie season was a miracle? It makes no sense.
Starting point is 00:20:44 It really doesn't. When you watch them in college, when you watch with the NFL guys, when you watch year two and three, that thing was, it was miracle and ice. Dax rookie year, we've had things like this in sports where you're like, that doesn't make
Starting point is 00:20:55 Appalachian State beat in Michigan. I mean, it just doesn't make any sense. And you get one of those things happens about once a year in sports. And I go back now to Dax's first year and I'm like, I can't explain it. Nobody can explain it. And you can't blame it on the offensive line this year either. They're ranked 10th.
Starting point is 00:21:11 It's not a way above average. It's not as good right now. No, they are definitely above average. They're ranked 10th. They are above average. You can't ask for the best offensive line in the league, which they had, which they arguably had his rookie season. You're not going to have that every year.
Starting point is 00:21:26 Continuing with Dallas. Kevin Byard channeled his inner T.O. last night during his interception. celebration. In fact, Byard said that after the game, he was expecting to get drilled, just like George Teague did, did two-TO when he ran onto the Star logo in midfield during the Cowboys San Francisco game into 2000. Well, here he was after the game. So, I mean, I just went up to the Star just to celebrate. I was actually expecting somebody to kind of knock my head off. But then we just started dancing. I was like, if we get to the
Starting point is 00:21:55 50, we get another guys in the 50, we just going to start dancing the Star. I mean, what are you going to do? I do. Dallas, keep him out of the end zone. Don't make mistakes. It's all these teams that get so prideful about their star and their helmet and Ohio State. And at some point, it's a target. It's become a target. Here we have, for the TV viewers, we have the video of him. Oh, boy. Dancing on the Star. I have no problem with any of this.
Starting point is 00:22:18 Like, it's sports. Like, this is what you play for. Yeah, it's taunting. And Jones gave him a little shove there at the end. But it's fun. And, I mean, this T.O thing is iconic. That was. Yes, yes. He was the first to do it. He did get knocked too. All right. Finally, the lake, former Laker great,
Starting point is 00:22:36 Shaq had some interesting things to say yesterday about the state of the current Lakers team. Jack was asked by for the win, what it would take this year to be considered a success for this team. And he said the second round of the playoffs. I don't know yet if they'll make it there. I'll know more at the all-star break. I think they can make the playoffs. There are eight playoffs spots out there
Starting point is 00:22:53 and they should be able to get one, but they definitely need shooters. LeBron always needs shooters. It's not like, for the record, Doug Gottlieb and I we're talking about this. It's not like LeBron's having a great year. I mean, LeBron's, I was telling Doug Gottlieb the other day. I was watching a Laker game. And for the first time in memory, I couldn't tell if LeBron was on the court. He was just kind of floating around. And he's always been this ball dominant player. And the Lakers don't want him to be as ball dominant, but it's sort of shrinking his game a little bit. And I wonder, just let LeBron go back to doing what LeBron does, because
Starting point is 00:23:24 he's not having big numbers. I haven't, I've seen moments of LeBron. Has LeBron had two great LeBron games this year? The Lakers have kind of asked him to do kind of the anti-Lebron, not be ball dominant. Well, that's not what he is. I mean, he'll still give you 26 a night doing that, but, you know, it's not all everybody else. LeBron hasn't been as dominant. I just don't think that they have their identity yet, and they don't even know what their starting lineup is going to be yet. So they're moving things around, I think, way too much. You have to try something and stick with it consistently, and then when it really fails, make moves. They've had a zillion different lineup changes. He's right.
Starting point is 00:23:59 They do need shooters. And I actually agree with him, making it to the second round of the playoffs. The way the team looks now would be a success. I mean, I'm not saying aim low, but it is this, LeBron is still on the team. But I knew everyone was going to do this, so I'm not going to act shocked. Like, I knew everyone was going to panic. I knew they were going to start slow, and I knew everyone was
Starting point is 00:24:17 going to panic. And it's because LeBron's on the team, and it's the Lakers. But do we forget what they were the past couple years? Like, not that much has changed. You add LeBron, and you have to make sure that the chemistry works. You have to figure it out. And LeBron team start slow. Yeah. It's history.
Starting point is 00:24:30 Yeah. Joy with the news. Well, that's the news. And thanks for stopping by. The Heard Line News. So Levy and Bell, the Steelers, sent out a tweet yesterday basically saying, you know, I'm leaving Miami. And what people inferred from that is, oh, he's going to be going to go over to the Steelers now. He's been holding out all year.
Starting point is 00:24:48 He's got eight days to sign his franchise tender. Otherwise, he won't be able to play for the Steelers or anybody else this year. So he sent out a farewell Miami, but the Steelers haven't heard from him yet. this is a situation where I really thought about it yesterday for the first time. I think Levian Bell's agent has screwed him over. And here's what I mean by this. I have an agent. In my business, I have to have an agent.
Starting point is 00:25:15 Joy's got an agent. Everybody in our business has an agent because we negotiate our contracts against attorneys at big companies, and I'm not an attorney. And I have a very good agent. And I've always said what makes a great agent is seeing potholes before my car jams into it. I can figure out the easy stuff, but can you see trouble? Can you see opportunities before I can?
Starting point is 00:25:38 Otherwise, there's no reason to pay an agent. I have a great agent. He sees stuff well before I see it. That's what I pay him to do. And he's great at it. Lavian Bell's agent made a couple of massive mistakes. First of all, it's obvious. The Steelers are winning without him.
Starting point is 00:25:52 His replacement, James Conner's got better stats than him. The players don't want him back, and he gave up $7.7 million, and he's lost value on the market. But there were three things that if you were an agent, and an agent's job is to protect the client. So I'm not going to call out the agent by name, but Labian Bell's agent made a couple of mistakes because an agent's job is to see trouble before it hits. Here's three things about this deal.
Starting point is 00:26:17 Number one, let's say I'm Lavian Bell's agent. And Joy is Lavian Bell, great, great running back. I would have said, A, Labian. Joy. You've been suspended twice already. True. The last thing you want to do for your image is, man, this guy suspended, holdouts, he's a headcase. So Todd Gurley could hold out, never been suspended, reputation, good dude. But an agent should have been able to see this coming.
Starting point is 00:26:48 You've been suspended twice, drug use. Okay, so you've already got a bad rep throughout the league. Now you're going to be holdout guy with two drug suspensions. That's the first thing. The second thing is the agent should have said the Steelers have a great O line, a Hall of Fame quarterback, world class wide receivers, and the NFL is changing all the rules to be offensive-minded. They're going to score 28 a game with or without you.
Starting point is 00:27:16 That's what an agent does. So the first thing is, dude, you've already got a bad rep, two times drugs out. Now you're going to be holdout guy. Second thing is, this offense is loaded. They score 30 a game. And the NFL's rules, hell, I predicted that before the year. I remember on the show, I said, bet the overs. It's going to be, and it has been.
Starting point is 00:27:36 Last week, Vegas got crushed. Fans are betting favorites, overs, and they're covering. So that's the second area, the agent for Lavian Bell butchered it. And the third one is, this was an obvious one. Four months earlier, the draft class was the deepest running back class of all time. Last year's draft, Lavian Bell's agent saw nine or eight running backs get drafted
Starting point is 00:27:57 and would have known, well, crap. There's going to be a bunch of young cheap running backs in the league getting nice yards, not making any noise and not making any money. Lavian Bell is going to look like a bloated, egomaniac head case who's holding out. An agent's
Starting point is 00:28:14 job is to protect his clients and see dangers before they have. Lavian Bell's a football player. his job isn't to know his brand you have marketing people for that and i think the agent butchered it butchered it i think they butchered it i mean because right now the stealers are winning the teammates are out on him his replacement's great and their offense doesn't need him and they're atop the afc north and his agent is a guy that doesn't have a lot of major clients maybe that's
Starting point is 00:28:44 the reason but i'm looking at lavi and bell this morning and i'm like i'm looking around the league man Cleveland had so many running backs, they traded one. His teammates are upset with him, a quote from David DeCastro, an offensive lineman for the Steelers, who was a great player. He goes, why waste more energy on it? The first week, we were shocked at this point. What are you going to do? It doesn't matter.
Starting point is 00:29:06 And that guy holds a lot of leverage, one of the tough guys in the NFL in the locker room. Heard hierarchy at the top of next hour. I have a story that's so delicious. I'm going to save it. I have to give it like, I have to let it breathe. It is literally delicious. It is like a sandwich. There's so much to it.
Starting point is 00:29:31 And I'm not going to give the story away. I'm not even going to let Doug Gottlieb talk about it. It's that good. It is. Yeah, yeah. It's like John said, it's a nice wine. I'm going to open it and let it breathe. I'll just give you the story and I'm not going to comment on it.
Starting point is 00:29:44 I'm not going to drink it, because it gives you snake dreams. That's right. I don't drink wine because I get snake dreams. I'm going to open this bottle of wine, Joy. But I'm not going to drink it. I am going to let it breathe and then I'm going to talk about it next hour. Okay. Tom Brady intends to be playing for the next matchup with Aaron Rogers in 2022.
Starting point is 00:30:07 So that's four years away. And he has said, I'm going to play for that. And I just want everybody to think about that. I'm not going to comment. I just open the bottle of wine. I'm going to let that Merleau breathe. I'm going to talk about it next hour. Because I know what you're thinking with that.
Starting point is 00:30:27 What you're thinking is, that's ridiculous. Tom's not going to be around in 2022. And I'm going to make a declaration. It's almost a manifesto. I'm going to let the wine breathe. I have my strongest opinion of the day on that story. And it's coming up. Plus, he's already, he's got something he's wearing a jersey or something over
Starting point is 00:30:50 there. It's not Baker Mayfield, so it's fine with me. Doug Gottlieb is around the corner as well. And a reminder, top of the hour, the herd hierarchy. One of our toughest ones to do, and I think you'll be shocked by how we have dropped one of the teams. That's all coming up. Be sure to catch live
Starting point is 00:31:06 editions of the herd weekdays in noon Eastern, 9 a.m. Pacific on Fox Sports Radio, FS1, and the IHeard Radio app. Welcome back. One of my favorite times of the week. Doug Gottlieb, Fox Sports Radio after me. I'm looking at your sheet here.
Starting point is 00:31:23 Contributor the Athletic. Well, look at that. You can write now. I can do everything. Handle the ball. Good editors. If you could have hit jumpers. I'm doing play-by-play this weekend for the NFL on Compass Radio. Me and Brian Baldinger, Bengals Saints.
Starting point is 00:31:36 You're doing the play-by-play? That's good. Good for you. I'm a little nervous. A little nervous. I have formation. Backs divide. Man to the right, slot in motion. I'm just making crap up. Yes.
Starting point is 00:31:45 That's about it. Okay. Brise, Michael Thomas. Touchdown Saints. Yeah. I just got to remember who's who day and who's who dat. Because one's who day and who's who dat, I got to write down like on my hands for both for that game. Okay.
Starting point is 00:31:58 I said to start the show, listen, if you get two weeks to prepare for the anniversary with your wife, you got to do better than a card. I'm watching two teams off buys. One team situationally was great. Marioita was great in the red zone. Great and third down. Cowboys with a veteran nine-year coach looked like they were playing on three days. Well, they also had a new offensive line coach, right? We're going to fix our offensive line, which wasn't great.
Starting point is 00:32:22 They're not getting great play from the tight end position. But look, we're kind of burying the lead here. Jerry Jones saying that Dak Prescott's going to get an extension. Why? Why? What has he done in the last year and a half to show that he is a franchise quarterback capable of elevating this team? And I'm not saying that Dak Prescott is the sole issue with the team.
Starting point is 00:32:43 But a franchise caliber quarterback can elevate a team that, has holes, he has not. He plays well based upon who's around him. And so you keep throwing money at the problem with Amari Cooper. It made it marginally better to where he had a couple of catches, but one touchdown catch, and he forces the interception
Starting point is 00:33:00 in the red zone. I think everybody takes shots at Jerry Jones for his inability to part ways with Des Bryant and some of his other personnel decisions and some of the things that he said about the protests and about the NFL.
Starting point is 00:33:16 But Jerry Jones wanted Tony Romo to come back off that injury and be their quarterback, because he knew Tony Romo was the better quarterback. Tony Romo was still the better quarterback than Dak Prescott. I think the Cowboys have a problem, and he's under a behind center, and they're going to keep throwing money at that problem and still not fix it. I just don't think Dak's good enough to elevate this team. No, I said this. I watched them in college at Mississippi State, and I said he's a better version of Tebow.
Starting point is 00:33:38 You can't trust him in the NFL to make those seam route throws, and he just can't do it, but he's like Tebow, he's athletic, he's big, he's sturdy. There's something about him. program kind of, he just kind of carried the program. But in the end, you know, I told Joy this. Every year there's something in sports that happens. And I'm a data guy and I can't explain it. Miracle nice. Makes no sense. You can't explain that. College kids beating the Russians. Yes. Dax's first year in the league. It was a perfect storm. O-line was the best, totally healthy. Nobody had film on him. Their schedule that year was done a first-place schedule.
Starting point is 00:34:10 Correct. Schedule was the last place schedule. How about this is a statement? I feel like Rob Parker sitting in this chair, but I would go in hot, take on you. I would rather be the Raiders and the Cowboys. The Raiders are bad, no they're bad, have five first round picks and $79 million in cap space in the upcoming year. The Raiders
Starting point is 00:34:28 in two years, if they don't completely screw up the draft, will be in better shape than the Cowboys. Now, look, maybe they keep Derrick Carr, maybe they don't keep Derrick Car. If they don't, 7.5 million in dead cap space and you've got to go find a quarterback. But if they keep Derek Carr and decide one more year,
Starting point is 00:34:45 they can put a whole lot of young talent around him, and I think they'll be on an upward trajectory. Whereas the Cowboys, they're stuck in that where the Knicks have been for, you know, 20 years until the last couple of years, where they're just, they're okay. And I think they were kidding themselves based upon the 13 wins two years ago. You know, last year they had some issues with Des Bryant aging, Jason Witton aging. But the big issue is that Dak Prescott hasn't gotten progressively better. As their offense kind of lame and stale and in need of, of some,
Starting point is 00:35:16 Refresher? Absolutely. But what has Dak Prescott done over the past year and a half to prove that he's a guy that can take the Cowboys back to the playoffs? I mean, we could say it's all coaching, but when I watched Mario dapper last night against Dak, because I know Mario dapper is slightly better, but not a ton. But in that game last night, there was a sizable gap between Mariota and Dak Prescott, like a sizable gap. And I also love the fact that you pointed out that Malcolm Thomas is a terrible signing for the Tennessee. Titans. And Malcolm Butler. I said Malcolm Butler. Sorry, Malcolm Butler is a, because I remember sitting in this chair and you were telling me that Belichick would lost the locker room, that Belichick is, you know, that guys are turning on him. And if you remember what Belichick said at the season opening press conference, people were, people are peppering him, asking him questions about why
Starting point is 00:36:07 Malcolm Butler didn't play. And all he said was, look, I want to talk, we'll talk about this year and this year's players. And my translation now, midway through the season is he wasn't going to say it, he was going to prove it. And Nate Soulder hasn't been worth the money he was paid in New York. No, yes. And Malcolm Butler hasn't been worth the money he was paid in Tennessee. And meanwhile, the Patriots are probably not the favorite to come out of the AFC, but if you're not going to pick them, you're going to pick the Kansas Chiefs,
Starting point is 00:36:31 who the Patriots beat earlier this season. Right. And so he has proven it with this. I can't tell you why he didn't play. I can show you why he didn't play. And Belichick's methods, though they may not sit well with everybody, seem to work. and almost Everett, with the exception of one kicker, one kicker, and maybe Chandler Jones to show for guys that have left New England
Starting point is 00:36:53 and achieved any level of success. Hey, by the way, it was Sunday I had so much fun. So I watched Philip Rivers and Russell Wilson, and we both know the Chargers front office guys. It's a great roster. They're great people. It's a rough sled going San Diego to L.A., being the second dog in town, but they built an incredible roster.
Starting point is 00:37:11 Then I got to watch Breeze and Gough, and that was a showcase. teams are great. And then I watched Brady and Rogers. And even last night it was fun if you're a Titans fan. But when you're watching, I haven't heard your take on this on Brady and Rogers. And I think, you know, there are obviously Tom's on the back nine. But I really feel with Aaron when I watch Aaron. Aaron is not healthy. Aaron is not happy.
Starting point is 00:37:32 Aaron is frustrated. Once again, he got up twice in that game and he's grabbing a wrist. It's when you watch him play, you know Aaron. And he's never going to return one of my calls. it's not right. The McCarthy thing. That's where you're getting at. And you've been right on this for probably two years.
Starting point is 00:37:52 Is that he and McCarthy, it's, and I don't know if I'm airing laundry here that I should. But this is you and Kim, your ex-wife, right? Kim's awesome. I am awesome, too. It doesn't. And Mike McCarthy is going to get another job, just like Kim found another husband. Yeah. Okay?
Starting point is 00:38:12 Yes. But at some point, some relationships aren't meant to last forever. Yes. There's just, just not. And every time you cut away to a shot to Aaron Rogers, he looks ticked off.
Starting point is 00:38:23 And miserable. And every time you cut away to a shot to Mike McCarthy with that play card, he looks miserable. Their mid-age doesn't work. Their offense is stale. He's a guy who he's, and this is where he's like you, where he needs to be intellectually stimulated.
Starting point is 00:38:37 I feel like I'm that way. Like, one of the reasons that I'm doing a college, basketball color. New stuff. Right. I've got to be challenged. I can't just drive the same way to work and do the same thing for 20 years. I'm not that guy. Aaron Rogers is not that guy, and I think he's grown tired of it, but I do think with the right offensive mentor, the right guy to freshen some stuff up. They already changed the front office. So I think times are changing in Green Bay. I'm going to disagree with your take that's coming, which is you think Aaron Rogers isn't long for this league. I don't. Well, I'll talk about that later. But I do believe we are
Starting point is 00:39:11 are in them. We, and I think this stuff matters. Years ago, I would watch Jay Cutler on the sideline, and he would just go stand by himself. And I was like, dude, when you're a quarterback in the league, you go to a bench, you bring over your slot receiver and your coordinator, you look at stuff. Brady's always surrounded by peeps, right?
Starting point is 00:39:32 Look, look. Cutler was literally on an island by himself. I don't know if you know this. Jay Cutler had to be removed from the locker room. He did not dress in the locker room at the end of the run in Chicago. because his teammates hated him. So all I'm saying with Rogers is. Hated him. But that's not the case with Rogers.
Starting point is 00:39:47 No, no. But when you, to your point, when I see Rogers and McCarthy, it's frosty. You can see it. It's also Rogers is struggling with younger, newer, wide receivers. Whereas what New England's done is they're bringing in veterans. And remember, they cycled through a whole bunch of guys in the preseason, trying to figure out what fit. And they went out and finally got Josh Gordon. and that kind of, they ultimately found a way to kind of make that fit because they needed his talent.
Starting point is 00:40:13 And they got Julian Edelman and they got Chris Hogan. You know, they got converted guys that are really, really bright. But they're also veterans, so they've seen, they know how to approach the thing. I think, you know, the idea of surrounding Aaron Rogers with younger guys is a great idea in theory. But in practice, it's hard because he's two or three steps ahead of them. And they're kind of struggling to keep up. And then the offense doesn't stimulate him offensively. That's a marriage that won't last after this season, but I think if they hire the right guy.
Starting point is 00:40:43 And I'll throw out a name of guy who's killing it in his offensive coordinator that is getting no credit at all this year. Steve Sarkesian, did you watch the Falcons just take apart the Redskins? No, no. Atlanta's offense this year is fantastic. The reason their defense stinks is they're mired with injuries. They have had devastating injuries. Julio Jones just scored his first touchdown of the year, and they've still, Matt Ryan's playing at an MVP level. And I don't know if you can hire Sark considering how it ended at USC and all of his baggage, but a new set of ideas, something fresh to challenge Aaron Rogers, I do think we'll recharge him.
Starting point is 00:41:19 He signed a long-term contract thinking I still want to compete for a couple more Super Bowl. Got about a minute and a half left. Everybody's pointing fingers with the Lakers. Why isn't LeBron better? It's a great question. I don't think it's necessarily about being better. Just give me one game where you feel like, oh yeah, LeBron's the best. player in the league. I haven't seen it. The energy is not there defensively. There was a play
Starting point is 00:41:42 two nights ago. I know you've planned out. They've beaten the bad teams and lost to the good teams, but they were eviscerated by the Toronto Raptors without Kauai Leonard. 42 to 10 at home. Did not take off the sweats. He did not play. They're down 12. They started in the first quarter and they come out of a timeout. He throws a behind the back pass into the stands for no reason at all and shows no facial affect. So if you want to tell me that LeBron's trying to find out what guys he can ultimately go to war with. Okay. Josh Hart appears up to the challenge.
Starting point is 00:42:13 I don't know if he's good enough, but he's up to the challenge. I still don't, you know, Lonzo hasn't done anything since he's been the starting point guard. Rondo's been a disappointment. Ingram hasn't been good enough. But what about LeBron James? Like, just take over a game and show us how dominant you are. There's something amiss there.
Starting point is 00:42:28 He can't play the backup center, something I thought he could do. That's why they're signing Tyson Chandler. They're a band of misfit toys kind of thrown to. together. They don't have the shooting, but more than anything, like, just take over. Be selfish. Show us why you're LeBron James. There's something there that's missing from LeBron, and I can't explain it. I wish you could. No, I told you did the other day on your show yesterday. I said, I watched a game earlier this year, and there were moments I didn't know if he was on the floor. Yeah. And I've never seen that in Cleveland or Miami. Doug Gottlieb, Fox Sports Radio after me.
Starting point is 00:43:02 Hour two, this is The Herd, wherever you may be. However you may be listening live in Los Angeles, Iheart Radio, Fox Sports Radio and FS1, Joy Taylor is joining me. Peter King will join us in about 15 minutes, and it is great to have you in today. We watched the Monday Night Football game last night. Off a bye, the Cowboys had no juice. They had no energy. They had no offense. They were situationally poor.
Starting point is 00:43:30 They were god-awful in the red zone. And Tennessee, off-of-by, was sharp. Now, they fumbled too much, but they were so. situationally supreme. They were great on third down. Mariotta was as sharp as he's been against a real cowboy pass rush. You're supposed to have more time on buys and to be more buttoned up. Urban Meyer 24 and 1 off buys. Belichick, Andy Reid, John Harbaugh, Tomlin, Sean Peyton are winning 60 and 70% of their games off buys. If you have two weeks to prepare, for a test, two weeks to prepare for a party, you got to do better than what I saw from the
Starting point is 00:44:13 Cowboys last night. Peter King, in less than 15 minutes, we call it on Tuesdays our herd hierarchy. Top 10 teams in the league. Here we go. Heard hierarchy. Time is now. Let's go. The top 10 NFL teams, according to college. Number 10. Minnesota Vikings have a ceiling, but their defense is starting to sort of resurrect. itself from last year. I look at a handful of defensive statistics. One of them, third down
Starting point is 00:44:43 defense. Right now, they lead the NFL in third down percentage allowed. Their league ranks are getting people off the field, and they're also very good in the red zone defensively. Again, Kirk Cousins in big games don't trust him, but when you play defense like this, I think they're going to win their division. So Minnesota number 10. Number nine. I thought the Houston Texans win in Denver was kind of a big deal. That's a tough place to play. The Texans defense now, that front is playing very well. And there are some things in football that make me smile. When quarterbacks who are young and talented, like an Andrew Lucker or a Deshawn Watson, come off an injury, and they get right back into the groove. And Deshawn's last three games,
Starting point is 00:45:26 eight touchdowns, no interceptions, 133 quarterback rating. He's a remarkable young talent. He's a good dude, he's mature enough, emotionally strong. This is going to be Andrew Luckin to Sean Watson's division for many years to come. Texans at nine. Number eight. Pittsburgh Steelers. I still don't think they're great with the details, and there's always too much noise for my taste, but their last three opponents have been held under 300 yards.
Starting point is 00:46:00 I don't worry about the offense. Their pass rush is excellent. Mike Tomlin's a defensive coach. There's always going to be some things about the Steelers under Tomlin that drive me nuts. But when I see them get their defense right, I mean, James Connor, give credit to that staff. Statistically, is better than Lavian Bell so far. Steelers and number eight.
Starting point is 00:46:23 Number seven. Eagles coming off a buy. By the way, Doug Peterson's three and one. The four games off a buy, so that's a good sign. Peterson's a good coach. Philadelphia brings in Golden Tate, like the Cowboys with a Mari Cooper on a buy. I think of all the acquisitions, this one is really going to be interesting. Golden Tate will be an extension of the running game, and it's really the part of their team.
Starting point is 00:46:45 Their perimeter speed is marginal. They don't have playmakers on the perimeter. Nelson Aguilar is good. He's not great. So I think the Eagles, number three, in third down defense, they get you off the field and get the ball back to Carson Wentz. Eagles at seven. Number six. I put the Panthers one spot ahead of them, even though Carolina was outplayed for three quarters against Philly, they came back in one in Philly in the fourth quarter. Now, Carolina's always been sneaky good at home. They were 8 and O at home a couple years ago. They're 5 in O at home this year.
Starting point is 00:47:17 Their schedule gets much tougher. And of all the teams in the top 10, they're the least dynamic over the top. They're a running game, Greg Olson, but Cam Newton deserves a ton of credit. He's not the MVP. He's the MVC. It's the most valuable CAMs ever been. A hundred plus passer rating in five of his last seven games. He has embraced Norv Turner.
Starting point is 00:47:44 They're a power running team. They don't make a ton of mistakes. He's now giving you multiple touchdowns a game. Carolina's schedule, though, gets much tougher this point forward. I got him at six. Number five. L.A. Rams. You know, even when I add them number one, I said every week, they don't have a consistent.
Starting point is 00:48:02 and pass rush. I don't like this Dante Fowler move. He's a me guy. He's kind of doing his own thing. Marcus Peters this weekend. Reverted back to Marcus Peters. Why Andy Reid let him go? Doing his own thing. In Domenu, in Miami, they let him go. Doing his own thing. I don't like the Fowler move. I think the way they look at it with their offense, they're going to be leading playoff games and they can't sleep at night if they don't get Dante Fowler a pass rusher. I don't think he's worth two picks. I don't think he's a great locker room guy. Now, again, against the Saints, 45 points, 480 yards, no sacks. Now, I know New Orleans' offense is good. It's not that good.
Starting point is 00:48:41 And remember, Seattle dropped over 30 on this team. They've got some defensive issues. I don't think their linebackers are playmakers, good in space, and I don't think foul or solves their pass rush. Number four. Chargers are good enough to win the Super Bowl, except they just cut their field goal kicker. Doesn't that seem like they're always cutting their field goal kicker? They really dominated Seattle. The score doesn't indicate that because they left seven points off the board because the PATs and field goals missed.
Starting point is 00:49:08 But they've won five straight. In four straight games, their defense is allowed fewer than 20 points. And they're doing this without Joey Bosa. So they're only going to get better, Chargers at four. Number three. I put Kansas City above them, and I think it's really close simply because Kansas City has had the Chargers number over the last several years. They're averaging 36 a game, first in the league. Most by any team through week nine since the 2013.
Starting point is 00:49:31 Broncos. That was the Peyton Manning Broncos. Listen, Andy reads a great coach, a great play designer, and they have a firework show of talent. Eric Berry comes back at safety helps. Houston defensive end will help. I still, I still think they can be a little sand lot offensively, so I'll put them at three. Number two. New England Patriots right now would represent to me the AFC in the Super Bowl. They've won six straight. It's your typical New England story.
Starting point is 00:50:02 Not great in September. We all claim they're dead. They get red hot in October. And then in November, they play a big Sunday night football game. And they just look fantastic situationally. I'll tell you this. Trey Flowers, anybody notice him Sunday? Defensive linemen, boy, he has become a force.
Starting point is 00:50:22 He has become a top 10 defensive linemen in this league. And remember Sunday, no Sony Michelle and no gronk. And they still won. Number one. We had him number one last week before the Rams game, and we've got him number one right now, the Saints. You can't run on them. You can't run on them. Now, I think they are susceptible, and you saw it on Sunday on the back end of the defense.
Starting point is 00:50:46 But the two parts of this team, because Drew Breeze is so great that are being overlooked, their offensive line has only allowed nine sacks. Their offensive line now has become the Cowboys three years ago. Fewest sacks allowed. That's a great offensive line. We just don't know their names. We knew all the cowboy guys because they were first round picks. The second thing is you can't run on the Saints.
Starting point is 00:51:08 So that defense is better than the Rams and the Patriots. And that offensive line is as good as the Rams and better than the Patriots. Saints, number one. Good stuff. Let me, you know, I said last hour, I was going to open the bottle of wine and let it breathe before I talked about it. The story was Tom Brady came out after the game and was asked by Jim Gray. He does an interview every Sunday or Monday with Jim Gray. And one of his quotes was, you know, you don't play her in Rogers again until 2022.
Starting point is 00:51:38 And Jim, you know, Gray asked Brady about that. And Brady came out and said, well, I plan on playing. You know, you guys all keep asking me about how long I'm going to play. And the quote here is, I'd like to go until I'm 45. I know I say that 100 times. Nobody believes me. But I feel good. I could go play another game tomorrow.
Starting point is 00:51:54 I know what to do. It's fun. Who else gets to play in front of the 70,000 people and throw a foot. And so anyway, Jim Gray asked him about potentially facing Rogers again, 2022. It's scheduled Monday Night Football. Do you think this was the last meeting between you and Aaron? You're not scheduled for another regular season game for four years if you stay with the Patriots and he stays with the backers. Yeah, and, you know, God willing, I'm still able to be out there doing something I love to do.
Starting point is 00:52:21 Obviously, other quarterbacks that I face that I have so much respect and admiration for are really memories that I'll have for the rest of my life. and last night was really one of them for me. Hopefully I get a chance to play an Aaron Rogers lead team again. You know, I'll just throw it out there. At this point, are you sure that Brady will be retired in 22, 2022, and Rogers won't? And I'm just going to throw some facts to you. Tom Brady has had two streaks in his career of 100 plus straight starts. One ended due to deflategate.
Starting point is 00:52:55 Aaron Rogers' longest streak is 55 games. Aaron is smaller. He has been factually more brittle. He adds more. He gets hit more. He's got Khalil Mack nine more times minimum in the next four or five years. He's got that Viking pass rush. You know, Tom Brady is rarely touched, has no injuries in a decade, has the best support system in the entire NFL owner down.
Starting point is 00:53:23 his best trait is getting rid of the ball early. Rogers is coming off a second major injury. He's a smaller athlete. He was wincing again Sunday. His most famous trait is holding on to the ball longer for the knockout punch down field. You know, when I watch these two play, when I watch Aaron Rogers, as Doug Gottlieb said,
Starting point is 00:53:45 I see a quarterback who is increasingly frustrated, is getting hurt more, is brittle, is not as big as Brady to begin with. And the Packers have a history in the last five or six years. They develop offensive linemen brilliantly and they let them go. Dante Scarnicchio, the offensive line coach for Brady, I mean, folks, he didn't get, Tom gets smoked about once a year. Aaron gets smoked about three times a game.
Starting point is 00:54:17 So when you line up these guys and say, oh, four years from now, I'm not so sure. I'm not taking the older guy who's a bigger athlete, gets rid of it sooner, ad libs less, and doesn't have Khalil Mack in his division. I don't think it's crazy to say in 2022, Brady and Rogers both here. And if you had to bet, Brady would be here and Rogers wouldn't. Aaron, listen, I watched that game Sunday. How many times can Aaron get up grabbing his wrist, grabbing his knee?
Starting point is 00:54:48 I mean, the Packers have a history. They develop offensive linemen. They don't keep them. And he's an ad libber. I know it sounds like hot takey, but I watch Brady and I'm like, you can do that for a long time. That offense, three steps out. The Texans opened the year against them. They never touched Tom.
Starting point is 00:55:10 You ever noticed that? Eagles, great pass rush, Super Bowl, Hot knife through butter. That offense is designed to beat great. pass rushes. That's what that offense is designed to do. Take away great pass rushes. Skarnacki, as long as he's on that offensive line coaching it, Tom can play as long as he wants. And he and Belichick appear to get along a little better now. Peter King's around the corner. Don't go anywhere. Peter King, Karim Jackson of the Houston Texans in studio. Good stuff. Hour two, not even halfway home. Be sure to catch live editions of the herd weekdays at noon Eastern, 9 a.m. Pacific.
Starting point is 00:55:48 Thursday night football returns this week with a battle of NFL heavyweights is Cam Newton, Christian McCaffrey, and the Panthers battle Big Ben, Antonio Brown, and the Steelers. It all starts at 730 Eastern on Fox NFL Network and streaming on Prime Video. By the way, Christian McCaffrey, not only is Cam having a year, Christian McCaffrey's having a great year. He leads that team in receptions. I said this a couple minutes ago. Carolina's been really good. They're one of those teams.
Starting point is 00:56:13 We know Green Bay is good at home. We know the Saints are good at home. Carolina is sneaky good at home, 5 and 0 this year. eight and a couple years ago. Their schedule gets really tough now, and they go on the road against Pittsburgh. That's going to be one of the best games this year in the NFL. With that via the Coward Global Satellite Network, Peter King, NBCSports.com. You know, it is, it's interesting.
Starting point is 00:56:36 NCAA and these sports leagues have created all these rules, limitations scholarships, to not have dynasties. Yet we've got the biggest dynasty in the history of college football, Yukon Women's Basketball, Golden State, Warriors and the New England Patriots. I can argue that are the four greatest dynasties in their respective sports ever. And I'm watching New England. And I said this yesterday, outside of the Randy Moss years, Peter, you could have given
Starting point is 00:57:01 me that tape Sunday and it looked like six years ago with Wes Welker. Their wins look the same. Their trick plays look the same. They're coaching. Their detail. I'm amazed by New England. And when Brady says I can play to 45, I'm like, I don't doubt him anymore. This system is built to puncture pass rushes.
Starting point is 00:57:21 And I know this is hacky, but when you hear Brady say play to 45, you've been covering this league a lot longer than I have. George Blanda played for a long time. I remember his name. Is it outrageous to think Brady can get there? I don't think it's outrageous at all. The stuff that you read, I don't know, five minutes ago or so, Colin, is what Tom Brady told me after the game on some. Sunday when he basically opened the possibility of being around still in 2022, when presumably, you know, he would be eligible anyway to play Aaron Rogers and the Packers again.
Starting point is 00:58:02 Rogers told me earlier this year he wants to play at least 40. That would mean seeing that he turns 35 in a month, that he would be around for it. So we'll see if Brady is. there's one thing that that becomes just absolutely tedious to the people who play the New England Patriots. The first drive of the game on Sunday night, there's no gronk, the best pass catcher that the Patriots have. He's out. There's no Sony Michelle, the best running back that the Patriots have. So what does Josh McDaniels do?
Starting point is 00:58:37 He not only plays a tempo style, he plays an up-tempo-tempo style. and he goes through the Packers, the Patriots offense, limited though it is, goes through the Green Bay defense like a knife through warm butter. And there's a very simple reason why. Josh McDaniels figures out a way going into every week. Here's who we're not going to have. Here are the obstacles we face. We're going to figure out a way to win.
Starting point is 00:59:11 and that is what makes the Patriots so it's so tedious for people to look at but if they were missing three other guys I'm not saying they would have won but they would have thought of some other way with the ingredients they had to make goulash well enough so that it would have beaten green bay you know there's a saying somebody told me this a couple weeks ago I may have mentioned it to you in the NBA you act out in the NFL you hold out and lavi and bell's agent did him a disservice. The Steelers are winning. He already had missed games because of two drug suspension. Now he looks like a little bit of a headcase. You know, I look at this Levian Bell situation. We have all these talented running backs who were low round draft guys who aren't making
Starting point is 00:59:55 noise and they're not costing much. And Lavian Bell sends out a tweet yesterday, farewell Miami. He left $8 million on the table. And I'm listening to David DeCastro yesterday. He's like, I'm not going to talk about him. I don't care. We don't miss him. I got to tell you something. I I think Levy and Bell butchered this. I think his agent butchered this. I mean, can you compare it to any recent holdout in the NFL? It doesn't even sound like they want him or need him in Pittsburgh. If you look at the numbers right now that Connor has put up here, James Connor has put up,
Starting point is 01:00:31 1,085 yards and 10 touchdowns, in the first half of any season in the history of the Pittsburgh Steelers, no running back has put up 1,085 scrimmage yards and 10 touchdowns. And so, you know, you look at that and you say, well, Labion Bell grossly overplayed his hand. And now I question what's going to happen to him when and if he's going to be free in March. He's going to make a very good contract.
Starting point is 01:01:04 Don't get me wrong. But if I am a team out there and Levyon Bell wants $17 million a year, or he wants, say, 40 million guaranteed in the first two years or something like that. I'm saying you're going to have to go somewhere else because the running back position, I'm not saying it's easy to find people,
Starting point is 01:01:27 but you can find people every year. Yes. Alvin Camara, you know, pick whatever he was, 67. Kareem Hunt. You know, Kareem Hunt, 85 or whatever he was. Those are the kind of things you look. look at and you say, you can find running backs. The Steelers found James Connor down the line. They found Levyon Bell down the line. That's why I just wouldn't pay a running back 17 million.
Starting point is 01:01:52 I started my show today saying both the Titans and Cowboys were on a buy. I thought the Titans looked, now they fumbled it, but they looked really sharp in the red zone and really sharp on third down. Marioita looked as good as he can. Two weeks to prepare for the Cowboys, they were a situationally. They were bad in the red zone. They were terrible on third down. I don't know what it takes. I mean, Jerry tends to be more patient than you'd think for an oil maverick. He's a risk taker. But I mean, this morning, he said he's signing DAC to an extension. Do you believe it? Does everybody in the league believe it? I just don't see what else I need to see on DAC. He said it this morning. He came out. I'm going to sign him to an extension. Do you think A, he's making a massive
Starting point is 01:02:35 mistake? And B, do you buy him? I'm I'm uh that's a great question I would not be signing deck Prescott right now I would wait until the end of the year and then I would make a judgment this stuff about signing deck Prescott and stephen Jones saying last night that they're already talking about an extension uh with amari cooper why what I mean Amari cooper is already signed to a rock solid through the end of 2019. Why in the world can't you wait and see where you are in 2019? I mean, and with Dak Prescott, it's not essential to do it.
Starting point is 01:03:20 Don't double down until you have to. Yeah. You know, it's kind of pithy, but I said yesterday when I watched the celebration in the Saints Rams game, it's not built for me. It was a penalty. I don't like it. But I kind of feel like one of the great assets of the end. NFL, despite being run by older men, they're constantly willing to evolve and adapt. I don't think
Starting point is 01:03:44 they like these celebrations, Peter. I don't. But I do think in the social Instagram world, they get you free clicks, they make you a little cooler, young people like you, and young people aren't watching TV like they did. I watched that Michael Thomas move, and I just rolled my eyes, and I don't even think Roger Goodell likes it. But my takeaway on this whole thing is they're watching the NBA, they're looking at their young participation numbers. They're looking at their millennial TV, linear TV stuff. I think they hate what happened Sunday. But I think they're smart enough to realize that young people like this stuff.
Starting point is 01:04:21 I mean, when you watch that play, what was your gut reaction to that celebration? Ben, they're done that. I thought it was kind of cute that he copied Joe Horn. Clearly he knows exactly that 15 years ago Joe Horn did this. Joe Horn's kind of a Saints legend, maybe not legend, but he's a very well-like guy in Saints history. So why not? It's fun. I totally agree with you. The talk show people are talking about it. Young people like that kind of stuff. It's harmless. Who cares? I don't care even remotely. Yeah. But the fact is that a bunch of people like it draws attention to it. Let them do it.
Starting point is 01:05:05 you've been a Hall of Fame voter for about 25 or 26 years since 92. And I'm watching Philip Rivers have his best year. And if you had to sit down today and make a vote on Philip Rivers, where would you go on it? Is he a Hall of Famer? And I know, again, it's early, but he's got three years left. It's a tough call, Colin. It's a tough call because I think you have to look at it in its totality. You have to look at him.
Starting point is 01:05:32 And that's why I'm glad. let's see he's still got some years to play. And I want to see where those years take him. Because right now it's very, very close. I have a feeling that if I still am doing it in eight years and I doubt sincerely I will be, that I would vote yes on him. But that's why I like the ability
Starting point is 01:05:54 to look at a guy's career in its entirety when it's done and then you can make a judgment. If he never played another snap today, it'd be agonizingly close. But I think he's trending in a positive direction. I think he's had a superb career. Yeah. And by the way, he's got three young receivers.
Starting point is 01:06:14 They're all spectacular. He's got a star running back. He's got a good left tackle and a Pro Bowl center. It stacks up. I mean, he's got all the right pieces, Peter. I watch them Sunday. He's got a lot. That team's got, they have drafted well.
Starting point is 01:06:29 I think they have more pure talent in the Rams and less dysfunction. I really do. I think the Chargers have better players than the Rams, and I said it earlier this year, and nobody wants to talk about it. But, you know, the Rams have a handful of guys like Marcus Peters and Domingu, Dante Flowers, who can be me guys over we guys. That Charger roster is stacked, Peter. Philadelphia Rams and the Chargers, I think you have the three best rosters. Is there one I'm missing? I don't know. I'd have to look at it. But I really like the Chargers roster. I think Tom Telesco is one of the games. underrated GMs. I think he's drafted very well since he's been there. I think the key thing for the Chargers is getting Bosa back. I talked to Casey Hayward after the game on Sunday, the corner for
Starting point is 01:07:17 the Chargers. And he said, hey, we're going to get at some point a fully healthy, totally fresh top 10 defensive player in football back. And so I think the Chargers are feeling pretty good about their chances. NBCSports.com Peter King. Thanks, Peter. Car shopping can be confused. A lot of terms, dealer price, list price, invoice, here's what's not. Go to truecar.com, save three grand off MSRP. Joy, Taylor, with the news. No, no, no, no, no. Turn on the news.
Starting point is 01:07:50 This is the herd line news. All right, reactions are pouring into that terrible Cowboys lost last night. Our very own and former Cowboys quarterback, Troy Aikman, did not mince words this morning. He said there needs to be a, quote, complete overhaul of the entire organization following last night's home loss. And he also added this. I've heard Jerry say, okay, look, we're going to do it differently. I'm going to do it differently.
Starting point is 01:08:17 You know, I can no longer, but it's the same. Nothing changes. And that to me is the bigger issue. Beyond, yes, coaching is important, personnel, all those things are important. But how are you going about evaluating? How are you going about running the organization? And I have no idea. You know, I talk to people.
Starting point is 01:08:38 I talk to people who have been inside the building and have a pretty good understanding of how things are run. And in a lot of ways, there's a lot of dysfunction. And that has to change if this team is going to be able to compete on a consistent basis like the teams that you look to around the league that seemingly are in the hunt each and every year. I've got to be honest with you. Howie Roseman's one of the sharpest guys in the league.
Starting point is 01:09:02 He's running in Philadelphia. He's looking at Dallas, and he hears that story about signing DAC. and he is throwing a parade. I think when Troy Aikman comes out and said it's dysfunctional, it's officially dysfunctional. Well, I mean, I don't think people are accusing the Cowboys and always making the right personnel decisions. Going to the level of dysfunction,
Starting point is 01:09:25 dysfunctional is not really a word that's thrown out around the Cowboys because they are a incredibly successful brand. Anckman's friends with Jerry Jones. They're the most profitable franchise, sports franchise. in the world. Profitable. That includes soccer teams, like in the world. Yes.
Starting point is 01:09:41 So dysfunction kind of doesn't really go in hand with that, except for you haven't put out a winning product on the field. And let me remind everybody, in case anyone forgot, Jerry Jones is in the Hall of Fame. You're not going to be able to tell him anything. It's done. If you were going to tell Jerry something before, he's in the Hall of Fame, forget it.
Starting point is 01:09:59 I think, actually, I'd go the opposite way. The Lakers have been nothing but dysfunctional for five years. the Yankees with Steinbrenner were incredibly dysfunctional. Manchester United can be dysfunctional. I think when you get to be as big as the Cowboys and the Lakers and the Yankees and Manu, I think you become dysfunctional. I think you're so wealthy, so talked about, so, I mean, look at the Steelers. But by the way, look at Green Bay.
Starting point is 01:10:28 Like, I almost think it's easier to be functional when you're the second team in Los Angeles, the Chargers. You start looking at all these big national brands. They're all the Knicks are a mess. The Lakers, kind of, the Yankees, the Cowboys. It's almost the exception when this massive brand in global. Like your brand becomes bigger than your actual product success. Yes.
Starting point is 01:10:53 Because what happens, Joy, is there is so much money in these brands. You start making decisions based on revenue, not wins. In Carolina of the Panthers, it's all about getting double-used. In Dallas, Jerry's like, well, if we get this guy and that guy, it sells and we get on, I mean, I think it's just almost, there's so much money in sports. Come on, when I grew up as a kid, a white receiver made $80,000 a year, he was a roofer in the offseason. There's so much money in sports now that the greater brand, the greater dysfunction, it's almost impossible not to have it. You might be right. Sticking with the Cowboys, speaking of personnel decisions, after giving up.
Starting point is 01:11:35 a first round pick to get Amari Cooper. They vowed to use him like a number one receiver, and they did. He finished as a team's leading receiver with five catches, 58 yards, and a touchdown. But before the game, Stephen Jones was already talking extension. You know, I think in general, we believe we're going to sign Amari to an extension. You know, that goes without saying, you know, that we feel like that he was worth the number one. And I think part of making it worth it is that we eventually sign him to an extension. Might be a little preliminary, being that he hadn't played the game yet.
Starting point is 01:12:08 However, they did give him a number one pick for him, so you would hope they were looking as investing in him as a number one receiver because you would probably use that pick that you gave up on a receiver. So that kind of makes sense. However, you know, you do want to see some actual on the field success. I'd like to go on a date before I give you a ring, I guess is my point. You know, sometimes that's how it goes. I don't know.
Starting point is 01:12:30 I don't know what to make of the Cowboys. It's really... It's a mess. It is a mess. After spending his first eight and a half seasons with Denver, Demarius Thomas wants nothing to do with them. After his first emotional game with the Texans, coincidentally against the Broncos,
Starting point is 01:12:45 he unloaded. He called out John Elway, Vance Joseph, for the handling of their trade and everything leading up to it. Wow. They all walked into the job and coached his Ben, Joseph walked up to me. He said, don't listen to the trade talk. It's not true. When he said that to me, I said, how it's not true?
Starting point is 01:13:00 My agent called me today and sent Elway one in the fifth round. peek from me. So we're telling stories to each other now? I thought we're going to be manned about this. Listening that from him and then another couple of coaches coming up to me saying, oh, you ain't, it's all fake. It's all fake. And then it really happens? It's like, man,
Starting point is 01:13:17 it is what it is, though. Being traded is not pleasant. No. Unless you're in a bad situation, obviously you're being traded to a good situation, but still very disruptive to your life. You have to move your family. You have to find a new place. You're going to a new team. You've got to learn a new system. You don't learn new players.
Starting point is 01:13:32 you're going to adapt to new coaches. I've never been in charge of a professional sports organization. However, I really feel like this is sound advice that I'm about to give. Please stop telling Blaers you're not going to trade them. Just stop it. Why do they do that? Why? I don't understand it.
Starting point is 01:13:53 What are you looking to accomplish? Especially if you know that they're working on a trade, just don't say anything. And if he asks you, be like, look, honestly, we have to make business decisions. I don't want to lie to you. I can't tell you what's going on right now, but you're a Bronco for the time being, and we're happy you're here. Like, you don't have to say that. Why are you saying that you're not going to trade him? Because when somebody walks up to you and asks, people don't like confrontation. Have a plan. Have a plan. Now, look at America. Most Americans don't have a plan. They were 64 years old and they're like, oh, I should have
Starting point is 01:14:25 put money away. I mean, it's just like, you know, people don't have plans. I don't get it. It's your job. It's the same thing you have about the Raiders. Just don't say it. If you come up and confront somebody on a question, I've never had anybody come up to me and say they hate me, and they do all day on Twitter because it's anonymous. If DiMio Thomas walks up, Demarius Thomas walks up to a GM and says, am I getting traded? People don't want conflict. They'll say, don't believe in any of the – people just don't like conflict. And so that's why I think people – I think that's why people lie in life is that when asked about stuff, they don't want to argue. Sure, but this is a situation that occurs time and time and time again.
Starting point is 01:15:01 We know that trades are a part of the deal. This is it. You know this is a part of the business. Just have a plan. You know that you're actively talking about trading him. He comes up to you. That conversation becomes a thing. Just have something that you plan on saying to him.
Starting point is 01:15:15 Or, you know, just tell him. I don't get it. Joy with the news. Well, that's the news. And thanks for stopping by. The Herd Live News. Kareem Jackson, Texans. Houston Texans on a roll.
Starting point is 01:15:26 Baby, DB joins us next in LA. It's the herd. Welcome back. Kareem Jackson. Nine years in the NFL, all with Houston. One of the first recruits, Nick Saban called when he got the Alabama job, is joining us. I want to show you a hit from Sunday. Here is cornerback Kareem Jackson of the Houston Texans against Denver.
Starting point is 01:15:48 Watch this. Lindsay out of the back field, and he is now. Kareem Jackson knocks the football out. It's incomplete. I love that. Is that you screaming? Yeah, that was me. You're one of the great to have you on the show, Karim.
Starting point is 01:16:03 You're one of the guys that likes to hit. Definitely. You're a corner that likes to hit. Definitely. Definitely. Kind of gets me going early in the game if I can come up and make some tackles early. And like I said, it just kind of wakes me up. Kind of gets me going.
Starting point is 01:16:16 So I definitely love to hit. You know, you've been playing with Deshawn Watson now, and you've gone through a lot of quarterbacks. Right. And I love Deshaun out of college. Nick Saban faced him twice, had six weeks both times and couldn't stop him. Obviously, he's an athlete. Well, we can see that stuff. But when did you know when you saw him at practice, okay, this is the guy?
Starting point is 01:16:39 I'll say his first camp to some of the throws he was making, you know, the decisions he was making. You know, a lot of times younger guys are kind of hesitant to make certain throws, but he's never hesitant in what he wants to do. Once he makes his mind up, he fires the ball right away. So at first camp, it was real impressive for me. So that was probably when I realized, okay, he's going to be one of the great ones. What's he like as a guy? Very laid back.
Starting point is 01:17:09 It doesn't say much. Just always listening to music. But he's definitely one of the greater leaders that we have in our locker room because he does it mostly by example. But like I said, it doesn't say a whole lot, just all action with him. So Marcus Peters is a great corner. Right. He had a bad Sunday.
Starting point is 01:17:30 Right. he got beat on a play and after the game he was as honest as I've ever heard a cornerback who got sizzled let's play the tape no I can stand up I can play better I've been playing these last couple of weeks and that's just being honest you know but um with me I just just continue to fight man that's the type of player I am who gives it you don't get beat in football you know but you go out there you compete to the highest of your ability and it happens I got to be honest with you I totally respect that Have you ever just had a bad Sunday? I go either further.
Starting point is 01:18:02 I had a bad year, my rookie year. I struggled my rookie year. And to be honest with yourself, you just have to go out and continue to get better. You know, it's all about just working to perfect your craft day in and day out. Why did you struggle? Well, I mean, I'm fresh out of college, you know, the speed. You know, I struggle with the speed and stuff like that. Just took some adjusting for me, you know.
Starting point is 01:18:27 So once I kind of caught a hang of it and kind of caught a rhythm, my second year I began to get better and better and better. So it's just all about growth and progression, you know, and as a deb in this league, man, it's going to be some days. It's going to be some rough days out there. So at the end of day, you've got to have that short-term memory. You've got to continue to go out there and fight, like he said. You were one of the very first players that Nick Sabin recruited.
Starting point is 01:18:49 Yep. Okay. You were one of the first two or three phone calls from Macon, Georgia. Right. So you show up there the first year, and they're seven and six next year. I think you're... Yeah, I would say I was a part of that seven and six team.
Starting point is 01:19:02 You lost to Louisiana Monroe. Yeah, we did. We did. Did you know? But what did you know about it? For me, in your head, you're saying, okay, this is Nick Sabin. Just came from the Dolphins.
Starting point is 01:19:19 You know, the stuff he's implemented, it has to work. You know, won a national championship when he was at LSU. So once we kind of, once they started to do recruiting and kind of started to get some of the big time guys like Julio and Mark Ingram and Trent Richardson and guys like that, I was like, man, this thing has to turn around. So my sophomore year, we went 12 and 2. And the next year we went 14 and 01 in national championship. So, you know, he's very detailed and what he does, very demanding.
Starting point is 01:19:48 So just kind of all the time. My freshman year all the time. because I enrolled early, so I had a chance to go through spring and camp before I actually had a chance to play a game. You got a lot. You got an airful. Airful, every day. Every day, an airful.
Starting point is 01:20:06 And I was like, man, why I just got to ride me like this? But, I mean, but it'll bring the best out of you. Well, it has. Nine years, one team, big contract year coming up for you. John Middlekoffs, a friend of mine. He's an former NFL scout. He got a text from an NFL scout today saying, quote, Bama could beat the Raiders.
Starting point is 01:20:26 Now when you hear that, knowing how good you were in college and how you got exposed your first year, could a horrible, horrible NFL team lose to a great Alabama team? I don't think so. I don't think so. I don't think so. That's a bit much. But, yeah, I don't think so. I think line play, I think an NFL offensive line, as good as Bama is, an NFL offensive line would move the chains.
Starting point is 01:20:50 In fact, I think a great, Canadian Football League team. Those are 29, 32-year-old men. Exactly. So, J.J. Watt is back to having a great year. I see J.J. Watt. He doesn't even look like big players. He's bigger than big players. Have you ever seen things that aren't like practice stuff? Like, what's he like as a practice player? He's the same way. Every play. He's the same way. He's out there every play. You know, you got some guys once he kind of get to a certain point of your career, you know, kind of don't practice every day, take reps off and stuff like that.
Starting point is 01:21:24 And it's all about getting to Sunday. But for him, it's every day. Every day is a grind for him. Every day he works. You know, he's constantly in the weight room doing extra. I'm always working on his body. So he's a total professional. You know, every day he puts the work in.
Starting point is 01:21:38 Kareem Jackson, nine years in the league. Is there a receiver? I've talked to corners Josh Norman about this. He's like certain guys. Josh is like, I'm long. I like big guys. It's the small, fast guys that I struggle with. Is there a receiver in the league that you don't sleep quite as well?
Starting point is 01:21:55 It's kind of a body matchup, or it's a... It's some tough covers in this game. I mean, obviously, you have the Julio Jones, a guy that's big and can run. He's strong. Very strong. And once he catches it, he kind of turns into a running back. So you've got to tackle him now. And you got the OBJ, guy like that with the catch radius that he has, you know.
Starting point is 01:22:17 Catch radius. Right. Even if you have perfect coverage. at some point, if he can get one hand up, you're still like, man, this guy can still catch a ball with one hand. And then, you know, DeAndre Hopkins guy, I have to see every day in practice. He is filthy. Yeah, his catch radius is insane also.
Starting point is 01:22:32 So it's guys like that and you got the, you got A-B, you know, guys where they're going to move them around, put them in different spots, put them in a slot, put them outside. You know, he's smaller, quicker guys that can run the entire route tree and can stop on the dime. So, you know, those are tough covers. So for me, it's just all about, you know, you know, you know, it's just all about. you know, at some point you got to know where your help is. Yeah, you got to know where your help is. And so you got to play a body position game, man, you know,
Starting point is 01:22:58 and on the ones where you have to hold up by yourself, man, you got to do what you can. Kareem Jackson, nine years with the Texans, certainly in our top 10, on a winning streak in a division that's incredibly winnable. Kareem decided just played Denver. Let's come out to L.A. and Hank for a couple of days. Nice meeting you. All right. Great to meet you as well.
Starting point is 01:23:16 Kareem Jackson, hour three of the herd DeAngelo halls around the corner. It's the herd. 3 in LA, this is the herd. Wherever you may be, however you may be listening live in Los Angeles, Iheart Radio, Fox Sports Radio, and FS1 in 45 minutes. Best for Last, we have our own political campaign. It's a voting day. Go out there and vote. Go out there and vote.
Starting point is 01:23:38 America, we'll have our own campaign. We are campaigning for Lamar Jackson, the Ravens quarterback. Flacco's terrible. We predicted week 11. He would start. I'm going to be wrong by one week if they lose at home to the Ravens, and then they get the Raiders at home, which is the easiest win in the league, if they lose to the Bengals, if the Ravens lose to the Bengals at home this week,
Starting point is 01:24:05 and I think they will. Right. Week 12, I was one week off. My gut feeling is Lamar Jackson starred. Everybody else is getting crushed all these rookies. He was a first round pick. Let him play. I mean, Flacco, I'll take out the Bills game in the opener.
Starting point is 01:24:19 He's been terrible. So we will campaign 45 minutes from now. We will do a political campaign voting for Lamar Jackson, not for president, not for senator, for starting quarterback for the Buffalo, for the Baltimore Ravens. I like it. You got to do something with politics today, right? And I'll make my case. I will make my case for Lamar Jackson, who I don't think is ready.
Starting point is 01:24:42 All these rookie quarterbacks, they're all getting crushed. So coming up in 15 minutes, I'll ask DeAngelo Hall about that. later in Best for Last. We have our election day. And, well, let's start with this. That thing last night was a mess. The Cowboys were coming off a buy last night against the Titans, and that performance was unacceptable.
Starting point is 01:25:01 If you get extra time, two weeks to prepare for a test, you better nail it. If you have two weeks to prepare for a party, it better be good. If you have two weeks to prepare for your wife's anniversary, you got to do better than a card. Okay, my wife's already preparing for Thanksgiving dinner a couple weeks out. Okay, so she's prepared. Extra time generally ensures more detail, better job. What I watched last night was the Dallas Cowboys off a buy. They had two weeks to prepare.
Starting point is 01:25:39 And that's what they gave me. 18 first downs off a by.
Starting point is 01:26:02 Under 300 yards total offense on a buy. 72 yards rushing on a buy. 25 minutes time of possession on a buy. That's the kind of game you get fired over. By the way, Andy Rees. off a buy is 19 and 5. Bill Belichick off a buy is 30 and 13. Mike McCarthy off a buy is 12 and 5.
Starting point is 01:26:28 Sean Payton, Mike Tomlin, Urban Meyer in college is 24 and 1 off a buy. Jason Garrett's sub 500. What does that tell you? That extra time doesn't help this staff and doesn't help Jason Garrett. I don't know what else you got to see. But if you have two weeks to prepare for you, a test or a date or a party or Thanksgiving or an anniversary.
Starting point is 01:26:53 You can't mail it in with that. And what's really troubling for Dallas, they were terrible in the red zone. Well, what is the red zone? Play calling, situational, execution. For the record, the Tennessee Titans were playing off a buy. Did you notice how great they were on third down? They were excellent. That's the best Marcus Mario does ever been in a third down.
Starting point is 01:27:16 Did you notice how good the Titans were in the red zone? Four to five trips a touchdown. The only issues the Titans had last night are fumbles, and that has nothing to do with coaching. And here's the amazing thing about Jason Garrett. It's not like he was a popular player. It's not like he has a big personality. It's not like he's a legend. I get firing Tom Landry was hard.
Starting point is 01:27:35 I get if Troy Aikman was the coach of the Cowboys, that would be a hard guy to fire. That would reverberate through the Dallas Metroplex, right? I get that. Jason Garrett's not a big personality. His resume is nine years, 500 coach, the only exception when he leaves the league in rushing. Well, good luck with that. I mean, you don't get that very often. I mean, there are statement wins and there are statement losses.
Starting point is 01:28:00 At home, off a buy against a struggling offense, and you made that offensive. It wasn't for fumbles. I don't even think I'm not even embellishing. If it's not for fumbles, that game could have been 28-0. I mean, what else does Jerry Jones need to see? That was brutal. That was atrocious. 14 days to prepare and Dallas was situationally embarrassing.
Starting point is 01:28:28 I'm not a guy that calls for people's jobs, but if that doesn't get him run, I don't know what does. Not good enough. I mean, just not good enough. And juxtaposed with the Titans who also have a young quarterback who's kind of struggling, and they have some wide receiver issues too like Dallas. It was kind of like watching two teams going through the same stuff. The difference is, I mean, even both teams had a buy.
Starting point is 01:28:55 The difference is one of them was tremendous situationally last night off a buy. One was pathetic. All right, let me shift to this. Patriots play Tennessee next. So the Patriots were watching Tennessee last night. Belichick was watching, but more importantly, Tom Brady said it after the game against Green Bay. I'll be watching Monday Night Football.
Starting point is 01:29:18 We play Tennessee next. Well, well, well, well, well. I hope Tom Brady was watching that game because did anybody notice who really struggled for Tennessee? Malcolm Butler is an utter disaster. He's a cornerback that Bill Belichick let go. And all the Patriot players, including Tom Brady, banged on Belichick, he doesn't know what he's doing. Bill lost us the Super Bowl! No, Bill didn't lose the Super Bowl.
Starting point is 01:29:47 Somebody hit Tom Brady's army fumbled. That lost the Super Bowl. By the way, Belichick did not lose the Super Bowl. New England never punted. Tom Brady's last three drives in that Super Bowl, touchdown, touchdown, all 75 yards. And then he finally got the ball one more time, and he was driving for the winning touchdown.
Starting point is 01:30:06 And Philly couldn't stop him. And their defensive players was gassed. And it was going to look like every Super Bowl, Tom Brady's been in one possession. Here comes Tom, beat Seattle, beat Atlanta, beat, and he fumbled. It was not about Malcolm Butler, who Belichick decided to sit. And there was a reason Belichick decided to sit Malcolm Butler, because when Belichick bails on a relationship, he's the world's best bailer.
Starting point is 01:30:30 He's right, always. I mean, Chandler Jones has been pretty good in Arizona, but Chandler Jones had stuff off the field and was getting super expensive and hasn't won any games for Arizona if you've watched them play. Belichick was right on Nate Solder. He was right on Dionne Lewis. He was right on Danny Amandola, and he's right on Malcolm Butler.
Starting point is 01:30:50 By the way, the data was in, but everybody got too emotional because Belichick's the most powerful coach and the most powerful sport, and he mocks the media, and everybody was waiting for an opportunity to seize on him. We don't like all that power bill's got. And so they lose the Super Bowl. Malcolm Butler, that's the reason you're a bum.
Starting point is 01:31:06 You're no good. You don't know what you're doing. Malcolm Butler, was benched in the Super Bowl because in the previous two playoff games, he was targeted 11 times, eight completions, two touchdowns, and the passer rating 146 from Blake Bortles and Marcus Marietta. He needed to be benched. Malcolm Butler can't play anymore. He can't play.
Starting point is 01:31:27 I think he's rated like the 132nd, according to pro football focus, like the 132nd corner in the league right now. And they paid him $30 million. So when Bill Belichick, Tom Brady and all you pay, Patriot players. Bill doesn't know what he's doing. Bill Costs the Super Bowl. Bill Belichick's a dummy. Bill Belichick's the reason we lost him. When Belichick walks into Patriot Place today, I hope he walks in like Connor McGregor in an octagon. Get a load of me. Look at me. Who's feeling good about themselves today? Bill Belichick should do the Connor McGregor octagon.
Starting point is 01:32:12 walk. Because all you Patriot players, he lost us to Super Bowl. He doesn't know what he's doing. He's no good. He's right again. DeAngelo Hall around the corner. What did he see last night? One more
Starting point is 01:32:28 Heard? The herd streams 24 hours a day, seven days a week, within the IHeart radio app. Search Herd to listen live or on demand whenever you'd like. Cold and flu seasons here. Try Vix Cinex nasal spray. Up to 12 hours at works when congestion strikes.
Starting point is 01:32:44 Vic's synex nasal spray uses directed. DeAngelo Hall is joining us 15 years in the NFL, three-time pro-bowler. So Troy Aikman came on the air DeAngelo and said this this morning on Dallas Radio. Let's take a listen.
Starting point is 01:33:00 I've heard Jerry something changes. I talk to people who have been inside the building and have a pretty good understanding of how things are run. And in a lot of ways there's a lot of dysfunction. And that has to change if this team is going to be able to compete on a consistent basis, like the teams that you look to around the league that seemingly are in the hunt each and every year.
Starting point is 01:33:46 So let's address that. You've got friends who play for the Cowboys, friends who did play for the Cowboys. When you talk to players, did they think the Cowboys were kind of dysfunctional? No one ever speaks against, I guess, Jerry Jones publicly. and I think that's part of the problem. I think no one wants to really piss them off. And to hear Troy say that, I always thought Troy was one of those guys
Starting point is 01:34:11 who was kind of drinking the Kool-Aid, the cowboy Kool-Aid. Behind the rope. Yeah, yeah. And so to hear him say that makes me think, wow, you know, I've underestimated Troy's assessment really of that organization, but for him to be that critical
Starting point is 01:34:25 because most guys don't really talk about what happens, you know, in Dallas. And I do think they're a little disqualification. I think we as I say we, me being a former red skin, we always get that, you know, kind of that moniker as being a dysfunctional organization. Right. Yeah, the redskins. Because, you know, seemingly Dan Snyder always has his hands in the cookie jar.
Starting point is 01:34:48 Right. I think as of lately, Dan's kind of stepped back. And now you look and you see Jerry and Jerry's kind of even more involved and always talking. And I understand he's technically the GM. But, you know, like Troy said, as some. some point, we got to change the culture. And by changing the culture, it might mean, hey, Jerry, I know you love this thing, and this is your baby, but you got to take a step back and let's pay
Starting point is 01:35:13 the guys to do their jobs because I don't think they're being allowed to really do their jobs. DeAngelo Hall, I think it's an interesting point. I mean, again, Washington was, it's funny, how you said Dan Snyder's step back. At the end of the Raiders run, people forget how great the Raiders were 70s, 80s, 90s. Al Davis aged, did not age well, and became not only a meddler, but mental capacity shrank. Jerry's sharp as attack. I'm not saying that. But I do think you make a great point.
Starting point is 01:35:44 As an owner ages, Dan Snyder's becoming less meddling. Washington now. And then Dallas, Jerry is more meddling. Arthur Blank was not much of a meddler when you were in Atlanta. No, he wasn't much of a meddler in a sense. he let the football guys do the football things. Arthur, I think, what got him, especially having an athlete like Michael Vic
Starting point is 01:36:09 when he took over that team, Arthur, that is, he kind of gravitated towards Mike. And so I was kind of one of those guys right after Mike, you know, a couple years after Mike got drafted. And so, you know, we ate over at his house, me and my wife. And, you know, Arthur was very receptive to us. You know, we were young.
Starting point is 01:36:25 I was 20 years old when I got drafted. So he almost felt as though he was, was a parent. Sure, surrogate father. Your parent, you know. And Mike as well, Mike was young when he got drafted. But right after all that went down with Mike, Arthur kind of was like, look, I'm getting too close to these guys.
Starting point is 01:36:40 I need to take a step back. So that kind of backed Arthur up in a sense. But Arthur never meddled when it came to football. He just really cared about the guys and the players that he was drafted. Yeah, Jerry, meanwhile, thinks he's a football expert. Yes, he does. And there's your problems. By the way, you almost, speaking of great organization,
Starting point is 01:36:58 I don't know if you've told this story. You watched New England Sunday night. I mean, God, it's just the same machine. Yeah, it keeps going. It keeps going. You almost signed with them. I did, I did. And I didn't think the machine was that powerful back then.
Starting point is 01:37:11 But, you know, you take me back to 2008 when I actually... 10 years ago. Yeah, when I finished that half a season in Washington, and I was kind of taking offers from different teams doing free agency. Well, actually, right before a free agency hit. So if this is tampering, I apologize. for throwing anybody under the bus. But it was a little bit right before free agency hit,
Starting point is 01:37:32 kind of how all the teams get on the phone, start hitting you up. And, you know, my agent had kind of worked to deal out with New England, and their max offer was three years, $27 million, which was around $9 million average. And at the time, they had just gave Randy Moss, I think, that same deal, I think, the year before. And I can remember them telling me, like, look,
Starting point is 01:37:53 we promised Randy we wouldn't pay anybody more than him. And so I'm sorry. but this is going to be our final offer. And I'm sitting there thinking, man, you know, I kind of always had my head wrapped around 10 a year. You know, I wanted to be at that 10 a year average. And, you know, obviously Washington was a place that I had spent the second half of that season there. And so I was comfortable there.
Starting point is 01:38:15 Plus, you went to Virginia Tech. Yeah, I went to Virginia Tech. I grew up in Virginia. I always wanted to be a red skin. And, you know, had I known then what I know now, probably would have signed in New England and did those three. years there. But just knowing me mentally and hearing all the stories about New England, I don't know if I would have been mentally tough enough to be that kind of player. The later I was in my career,
Starting point is 01:38:42 I think I would have fit in perfect there. But I think I was still a little bit of a me guy at that point in my career. So, I mean, but when you see great guys like, you know, Hall of Fames like Tom Brady and Randy Moss doing it the right way, maybe I would have just fell in line. But I don't know, man and you know everything happens for a reason right um you know a similar story even before i went to went to went to went to washington to finish the year i had a had an opportunity to go to uh go to pittsburg oh with tomlin i got cut from uh from from from from Oakland and i've always known mike tomlin he's from that 757 area of virginia that i'm from i'm a fan of his i know him personally and you didn't go there either and i didn't go because mike tomlin in in in his recruitment
Starting point is 01:39:25 it was a, look, we're going to let you return punts. We, you know, throw you on offense. It was to be more so of a gimmick guy. And I was like, man, I just got cut from Oakland after signing a $70 million contract. I got to let people know that I can still play corner and that I'm still an elite corner in this league. And so Mike wasn't really selling me on that. He was selling me on, yeah, you know, we got some injuries. You know, we'll work you in.
Starting point is 01:39:49 And Washington was more so like, look, you're going to come in and fight four stars a spot. And I was like, all right, I got to go where I can play. Mike, I'm sorry. And then that team goes and wins the Super Bowl. So I just can't get a ring, man. I can't get a ring to save my life. Dang. I love stories like that.
Starting point is 01:40:04 Yeah, it's tough. Well, could it be you had a hell of a career. You played for 15. You were a three-time pro bowler, DeAngelo Hall. I was saying that there are statement wins and their statement losses. Bella checks record after the buy is great. Andy Reid after the buy. Mike Tomlin after the buy.
Starting point is 01:40:20 Sean Payton after the buy. Urban Myers, 24 and one after a buy. Jason Garrett. is sub-500 after a buy. DeAngel, I'm watching Dallas last night. By the way, Tennessee was off a buy. Situationally, they were great. Third down, they were great.
Starting point is 01:40:34 Red zone, they were great. I'm sorry, but you can't have two weeks to prepare and give me that. That was a nothing sandwich for three and a half hours. You're right, man. And I look at Jason Garrett and I like him, and I want to root for him. As much as I really don't prefer Dallas. I mean, I like him. He's a former player.
Starting point is 01:40:53 You want a root for him? He seems like a good guy. The guys in the locker room seem to like him. But they don't seem to play inspired football when I watch him play. That's a good way to put it. It was no sense of urgency. No juice. And I don't know if he's such a laidback guy that he's too nice.
Starting point is 01:41:10 And so the guys tend to run over him a little bit. I don't know because I'm not in that locker room. But, I mean, like you said, you had every opportunity to seize the moment. Earlier that day, you just found out the Redskins are losing all these starters. and they really haven't shown you that they can throw the ball down field. You see Philly's right in front of you, and so you have a chance to make a statement, and you should have been prepared.
Starting point is 01:41:36 But when I watch them, they just look vanilla. Like they never tried to move Zika around. They tried to just run him straight downhill. That wasn't working. He caught the one big pass out of the back field, but I would have been trying to move Zieg all over the field. I felt like it was certain times in that game where they told, Dak, look, throw the ball,
Starting point is 01:41:52 Amari Cooper, no matter what, because, I mean, even the first touchdown, Amari got open, but Alan Hurms was wide open in the back of the end zone. Like, you can't miss that. And to me, you know, the interception was definitely one of those plays that he came out to huddle saying, I'm throwing this ball. It was a forced throw. Yep. Two guys on him.
Starting point is 01:42:13 I just don't feel like, I don't feel like Jason Gares really giving DAC a chance to succeed. You know, when you think about, you know, even watching Jared Gough when he first played in the NFL his rookie year, you know, we were like, gosh, you know, this kid isn't very good. And then he gets with a, you know, a guy like Sean McVeigh. And now we're like, man, Jared Gough is amazing. Like, he can make every throw. And so to me, it shows how important that quarterback and coach relationship is, a quarterback and play caller. And I just don't think DAC is really giving the best. opportunity to cultivate his talent, man.
Starting point is 01:42:53 And it doesn't matter who you put out there. If you aren't changing the offense up and giving him, you know, different looks and moving guys around and really scripting him for success, you can't just expect him to go out there and dice people up. That's not how today's NFL works. Good stuff, DeAngelo Hall. For the record, Marcus Peters is remarkably talented. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:43:12 Oh, yeah. He got sizzled this weekend. It's okay. Saints are good. Thomas is great. and do we have the bite? I will give Marcus Peter's credit. He was brutally honest
Starting point is 01:43:24 after the game. Here's what he said. No, I can stand up. I can play better. I've been playing these last couple of weeks and that's just being honest, you know. But me, I just continue to fight. Man, that's the type of player I am. Who gives a you going to get beaten football, you know, but you go out there and you compete to the highest of your ability
Starting point is 01:43:39 and it happens. Let me ask you. How do you guys have a short memory? Did you ever just get smoked? have a Sunday where you went home that day and you're like, man, I don't even want to go to film session Monday. First off, I love Marcus Peters because most guys don't do that. Most guys don't stand up and say, hey, look, I was one of those guys that if I got beat, look, I got beat. I got to play better.
Starting point is 01:44:03 I was one of those guys, too, that I didn't mind taking the blame when I didn't play well. And so for him to do that in front of the media, you know, I was even told he went up in the meeting room and talked to the defense and said the same thing. look, I'm going to play better. I have to play better. But it's just, I mean, you're kind of born with it. That's why people always ask, you know, what does it take to be a good DB? Yeah, it takes good feed. It takes, you know, da-da-da-da-da-tuffness.
Starting point is 01:44:27 You got to be able to hit. You got to do this. You got to do that. But more so than anything, it's a mindset. Like, it's a mindset that at the end of the day is me against you and I'm going to win, period. And certain times you just meet a dude who's bad than you. On that day. Yeah, I mean, Randy Moss was badder than me on certain days.
Starting point is 01:44:45 T.O. was battered in me on certain days. Certain days I was badder than him. And so it happens. You get beat, but, I mean, you got to forget about it. Because, Colin, in the end of the day, whether I make that play or not, say I get a pick, cool, I still got to go play another play. You know, it's not like a fight where, you know, you hit a guy, he's bleeding, he's hurting. I mean, it's football. They're all padded. They're not calling the fight. They're not calling the game. You're going to have four more quarters. So whether you get a football, you get a football, get a pick in the first quarter, you got to throw that out and keep playing.
Starting point is 01:45:19 And so, you know, you want to go out there, you want to make plays, but ultimately, you understand those guys get paid too. Yeah. And that's the bigger picture. And, you know, I never mind getting beat. Obviously, I didn't want to get beat, but I never mind because I learned something about myself and I learned something about that player. And as long as you learn something about that, I mean, Marcus Peters got beat on a double move.
Starting point is 01:45:45 I'm sorry, not a double move. I'm thinking of Malcolm Butler. Malcolm Butler got beat on the double move. But Marcus Peters got beat just looking in the backfield. I mean, those are things that when you're looking at film, Marcus Peters can be brutally honest with itself and say, man, I can definitely play better than that. Like I had my eyes in the back field right here.
Starting point is 01:46:01 I jump. I should have just kept running, go for the tackle, instead of going from breaking the pass up. And so there's a lot of coaching moments through the course of a football game, and especially as DBs, man. We always critique every little thing because it is such a game of inches that, you know, two more steps and then making that jump as a DB, you might tip that ball
Starting point is 01:46:19 as opposed to, you know, a 75-yard touchdown. Well, I love D-Bs. I've had Kareem Jackson and you on the show today. I give my love. Why receivers wear me out? D-Bs I always bring on the show. I appreciate it. DeAngelo Hall, good seeing you, bud.
Starting point is 01:46:32 Don't be that guy in the room long, sloppy-looking untuck shirt.com, untucket.com. Code heard 20% off. Shirts designed to be worn untuck. Joey Taylor with the news. No. Turn on the news. This is the herd line news. All right, the Chiefs and Cardinals are at very opposite ends of the spectrum this season,
Starting point is 01:46:51 and it's showing based on the point spread that the bookmakers have assigned to the game. The 8-1 Chiefs opened as 17-point favorites over the 2-and-6 Cardinals. 17-point favorites? It's in Kansas City, right? Which marks the largest opening of the 2018 season. I'd probably take Kansas City still. Seriously, I would. Arizona's O-line right now.
Starting point is 01:47:13 Yeah, it is at Kansas City. They can't generate a run game with a great running back. So the time of possession in that game, Arizona can't sustain drives. Well, 17 points sounds like a whole lot because it is a whole lot. But they did just beat the Browns by 16 points. And they're winning by an average of 13 points this season, which is the best in the NFL so far. So it's really not that outrageous. And when you look at some of the biggest point spreads in NFL history, I mean, the Rams, Panthers, 2001's, 19-14.
Starting point is 01:47:43 points. I mean, the worst is Buck Steelers, 1976, 27 points. But, you know, it's not, it's really not even that close. Joy, the rules have changed. It's just easier to score. Yeah. I mean, it's, it's, it sounds very dramatic. But when you look at what the Cardinals have been doing this season and what the Chiefs have been doing this season, and again, they just, they just beat the Browns by 16. Can I just say something? John, I remember the 1976 game between Tampa Bay and Pittsburgh. That Tampa Bay team was the worst, I'm not joking when I say this. First of all, Pittsburgh's defense was unbelievable. Sure.
Starting point is 01:48:17 Mean Joe Green, Dwight White, Elsie Greenwood. St. O'C. Greenwood. Still Keene. Okay. Tampa Bay had statistically the worst offense in league history. I can remember seeing highlights of that game. Yeah, no, they were winless. You know why I remember this?
Starting point is 01:48:34 Because in 1976, I lived near Seattle, and Tampa Bay and Seattle were expansion teams. And the Seattle team was a great offensive team with Jim Zorn and Steve Large at Hemp. had no defense. Tampa had the Selman brothers were great defense and a pathetic offense. And they met later that year in Seattle won like 10-9. I remember I was a kid. That was the first time I started loving football, 1976, 77.
Starting point is 01:48:59 But not that game. But I remember the Pittsburgh, Tampa. I remember the video of that. Yeah. Well, Cardinals can take some solace and knowing that they're not that bad. Yeah. All right. So our very own and former Cowboys quarterback, Choi Aikman, did not minceau.
Starting point is 01:49:13 words this morning. He said there needs to be a complete overhaul of the entire organization. We were just talking about this. Following last night's home loss, and he also added this. I've heard Jerry say, okay, look, we're going to do it differently. I'm going to do it differently. You know, I can no longer, but it's the same. Nothing changes. And that to me is the bigger issue. Beyond, yes, coaching is important, personnel, all those things are important. But how are you going about evaluating, how are you going about running the organization? And I have no idea. You know, I talk to people. I talk to people who have been inside the building and have a pretty good understanding of how things are run. And in a lot of ways, there's a lot of dysfunction. And that has to change if this team is going to be able to compete on a
Starting point is 01:50:03 consistent basis like the teams that you look to around the league that seemingly are in the hunt each and every year. I got to give Troy Aikman a lot of credit. He's friends with Jerry Jones. I know he got to real. And that's keeping it 100. Because when you're buddies with somebody, they're friends. That's hard to do. He just basically said Jerry's organization's dysfunctional.
Starting point is 01:50:25 That is as brutally honest. For anybody that thinks Troy Aikman's a cowboy homer, that is not easy to do. That is Tom Brady calling out Bob Kraft in 10 years. Sure. That is hard to do. Sure. I mean, Troy Aikman's very respected when it comes to the Cowboys, as he should be, and he's not wrong. It's very frustrating.
Starting point is 01:50:47 I'm sure it's frustrating as a Cowboys fan, but the brand that the Cowboys have, and from watching Dak and Zeke in their rookie season to what the Cowboys are now, it's a disaster. And it doesn't look like it's turning around anytime soon. And everything, as you said earlier about the Cowboys coming off a buy, you have all this time to prepare, and that is what you put out there. on Monday night, it's just, that's not acceptable. Yeah. But I think it's become such a, unfortunately, the losing has become such an acceptable thing because the Cowboys brand is so big that it's like, well, we're still the most profitable franchise in the world.
Starting point is 01:51:23 Can't be doing that much wrong. Yeah. And like I said, Jerry's in the Hall of Fame. It's really hard to tell Jerry anything about anything. You can't tell him anything about business. He's in the NFL Hall of Fame. Like, what are you going to tell him about how he's running his organization? Finally, Kevin Byard channeled his inner TEO during the interception celebration last night.
Starting point is 01:51:40 You're a very anti-celebration. Not big, especially on somebody else's turf. On someone else's turf, but Byer doesn't care. He said he did expect to get drilled for this. He got a little push in the back. But here he was after the game. So, I mean, I just went up to the star just to celebrate. I was actually expecting somebody to kind of knock my head off.
Starting point is 01:51:59 But then we just started dancing. I was like, if we get to the 50, we get another guy's in the 50, we just going to start dancing to the star. I'm very pro celebration and I have no problem with this. I know people think it's like, not very sportsman like. I don't think anyone cares about the disrespect of the star except for Cowboys fans. Literally everyone else in sports is like, yeah, we love it. Plus, obviously, you know, it's an o-ded-to-that iconic CEO celebration. You really don't like it?
Starting point is 01:52:25 Yeah, not really a celebrator. It doesn't do it. I just never, I just never, again, I grew up in a different generation where you scored and you act like you've been there. I'm over. I'm Troy Aikman Trent Dillfer said yesterday something I thought was... Millennials did not invent celebrations, Colin. Millennials were out of control. Actually, your generation is responsible for this.
Starting point is 01:52:45 You know, it is funny. There used to be a guy named Billy White Shoes Johnson. Yes, there was. And he had this absurd celebration in Houston. Remember the icky shuffle? Yes. I'm not... Listen, I'm not losing sleep at night with it. It doesn't bother me that bad. I would just be... If I scored
Starting point is 01:53:01 a touchdown, I'd just be flip it to the ref, I don't think you would. I'd be like Larry Fitzgerald. In fact, there's a lot of me that's like Larry Fitzgerald. I run good routes. I'm dependable. I've got good hands. Everybody's not the same, though.
Starting point is 01:53:14 I know. I know. Some people just want to party all the time. I am at bed by 845. Preparing for this show every day. Exactly. Joy Taylor with the news. Well, that's the news.
Starting point is 01:53:25 And thanks for stopping by. The herd line news. By the way, can I make a point about Russell Westbrook? Oh, he left the game last night with an ankle sprain. What is the point? Hyper athletic point guard can't shoot, therefore have to attack the rim. What is he doing last night hanging around the rim, hanging around the trees with big guys getting rebounds?
Starting point is 01:53:49 By the way, the minute everybody was buying more Westbrook I was selling, you were all loving that triple double nonsense, and I kept saying all he's doing is spiking his stats. that's all he's doing. He doesn't need to be anywhere near the rim with his surgeries, with the injuries he's dealt with, what is he doing under the rim?
Starting point is 01:54:13 They got a guy called Stephen Adams. That's what he's supposed to be doing. But he's a stat guy, and he's goosing his rebound stats. He's been doing this for years now, and he's catching up with him. He'll be back. He'll be fine physically.
Starting point is 01:54:27 But I go back to it. When everybody else was ordering another Westbrook entree. I looked at the waiter and said, check please, I'm out. You were often in. I was often out. The fact that he relentlessly pursued a meaningless stat line to win a trophy is why Kevin Durant left in the first place. I felt from day, he's a stat chaser. Rebounds, give him, that's that whole triple double nonsense. There's video of him gooseing stats last night. Get out of there. You got guys on that team to rebound. take off down the floor.
Starting point is 01:55:04 It's a cardio league. It's a possession league. Get up the floor. Get out of the rebound game. Check, please. You guys were all ordering more of Westbrook. I was out on that a couple years ago. That's all I'm saying.
Starting point is 01:55:19 That's the point I wanted to make. He's no reason he should be down there by Stephen Adams. Get him out of there. I don't care. He should never rebound the rest of his career. I don't want to see one more rebound. And I will say this, hyper-athletic point guards that can't shoot, hang around the rim too much.
Starting point is 01:55:36 John Wall, Derek Rose, Westbrook. I've been on this for years. The more athletic guard is, if he can't shoot, he's going to be around the rim to score, and it's just injuries, injuries. And by the way, you guys, you're now, he's going to be making $47 million a year in 2023. And these injuries now are not a coincidence.
Starting point is 01:55:55 These injuries now are a pattern. 47 mil, 2023. Wow. You bought into the story. Katie left him. You bought into the story. Loyal guy got burned. Don't buy into the story. Look at the data.
Starting point is 01:56:12 Get him away from the rim. Stephen Adams is there to rebound. Let him have 20 a night. Coming up next, it's Election Day. My surprising support, my candidate, why are voting for Lamar Jackson for starting quarterback of the Ravens? That is coming up next. Saturday, Dwayne Haskins and the 10th ranked Ohio State Buckeyes
Starting point is 01:56:34 look to keep their Big Ten and playoff hopes alive as they enter a high-stakes showdown with Michigan State. Then later on, it's a lone star shootout between Texas and Texas Tech. That's Saturday starting at 1130 Eastern on Fox or watch it anywhere on the Fox Sports app. I texted a Ohio State booster yesterday, and he said the problem in Ohio State's program, too many NFL guys are looking for Sunday payouts. They're not into the season. They have bailed. Bosa decided to leave.
Starting point is 01:57:03 Maybe that triggered it. but Ohio State's a mass. I'll take Michigan State in that football game. Ohio State's defense is awful. I watch back-to-back games. Purdue and Nebraska slice them up. All right, time for best for last. After almost three hours, Colin apparently hasn't gotten to the point yet.
Starting point is 01:57:20 Quit holding out on us, cowherd. It's the best for last. So in the last three games, Joe Flacco has been, it's regressed. He's bad. Baltimore now has a losing record. they host Cincinnati this weekend. I'll take the Bengals to win that game. And I'm watching all the rookie quarterbacks.
Starting point is 01:57:42 Sam Darnold's getting the you know what beat out of him. Baker Mayfield has no chance. Josh Rosen. And I'm thinking, I'm in the interesting business. Lamar Jackson is interesting. And in the plays that he's come into the game, in the last couple of weeks, I'm like, it's okay. I mean, everybody else is playing. Josh Allen played.
Starting point is 01:58:01 He's not ready. Why not play Lamar Jackson? I mean, at this point, if you lose at home to Cincinnati, the season's over. You're done. You're not catching the Steelers. And, I mean, to me, so John Harbaugh, coach of the Ravens, was asked about this because the Raven reporters are seeing what I'm seeing. What's the point?
Starting point is 01:58:19 Flacco's regressed badly. Here was the press conference. When you mentioned that you would like to see him all on the field more, are you meaning could he start a game? Joe's played well, so I don't want to get into all that. We're rolling right now with what we got. Of course, at some point in time. I mean, this guy is a quarterback.
Starting point is 01:58:35 I mean, we've said that from the beginning. And anybody that wants to dispute that, come to practice like you guys do or you're watching play, he's improving all the time. He's getting better as a quarterback, an NFL quarterback all the time. Well, Flacco's not rolling. Flacco throws the ball inaccurately. That's not great for a quarterback. So I said, you know what, today's election day. And I watch all these political ads.
Starting point is 01:58:59 And I thought I can do some political ads. vote for Lamar Jackson as a starting quarterback. So I thought, you know, some of these ads are a little manipulative. I don't need to go there. I can state facts, facts only with my campaign for Lamar Jackson. Here's our first political ad. Joe Flacco has thrown six interceptions this season. You know how many interceptions Lamar Jackson has thrown?
Starting point is 01:59:25 None. Vote Lamar Jackson for Ravens QB. This ad was paid for by the committee to get rate of aging quarterbacks. Completely accurate. No manipulation. Not a whole lot of context around it. I've got
Starting point is 01:59:41 15 seconds, Joy. I don't have time for context. There. All right. If you don't like that one, I've got another one, I think it's totally accurate. Go ahead. Joe Flacco has won 10 playoff games in his career. But how many playoff games has he won this season? Zero. Vote Lamar Jackson for Ravens QB.
Starting point is 02:00:02 This ad was paid. for by the Committee of Miserable Ravens fans. Again, this is not inaccurate. No, it's not. My candidate looks at Joe Flacco and is every bit as worthy as Joe Flacco who is not won a playoff game this year.
Starting point is 02:00:16 It is a knock on this year. Yeah. Oh, you're still not impressed. Um, how about another political ad? This season, Joe Flacco has a lowly passer rating of 84.2. Meanwhile, Lamar Jackson has a
Starting point is 02:00:34 Pass a rating of 108.7, putting him on pace to surpass Aaron Rogers as the greatest statistical quarterback in NFL history. Vote Lamar Jackson for Ravens QB. This ad was paid for by the Committee for Fair Statistical Representations. It's the strongest one, actually. It's right on point. And again, you can get into context. He is on pace. I didn't say minimum throws required.
Starting point is 02:01:00 No. He is on pace to have the greatest statistical. year passer rating of all time. How can you not start Lamar Jackson? I predicted week 11, but it is week 11 next week and they're going to start Flacco Harbaugh said. And I think if Cincinnati comes into Baltimore and wins, and I love Baltimore before the season, I was all in on the Ravens, then Oakland comes in town next and I think they should start Lamar Jackson. By the way, I don't need to run any more ads. I think I have. proven beyond a shadow of a doubt. My candidate is worthy of a starting position. But you know what?
Starting point is 02:01:39 Let's be honest. Let's drive the point home with my strongest political ad for Lamar Jackson yet. For years, Joe Flacco has been telling everyone his first name is Joe. But if you look up his records, you'll see his real name is Joseph. Make you wonder what else he's hiding. Vote Lamar Jackson for Ravens QB. This ad was paid for by Wikipedia. He's, Flacco's just not honest. He's deceptive. My candidate, Lamar Jackson, honest as the day is long,
Starting point is 02:02:14 who would you vote for today? I mean, I definitely think they should start Lamar Jackson. Well, you have from day one. No, I didn't think that Lamar should start from day one. I thought Baker and every other rookie quarterback should start from day one except for Lamar because Joe Flacco is not someone who I viewed as as needing replacement at this particular moment. And I didn't think Lamar was totally ready.
Starting point is 02:02:35 But Joe's not playing well. So Joseph Flacco is not playing well. So when the season's over. Accuracy matters to you, not Joe Flacco. It does. I maybe got a career. I'm like Carl Rove. I could go out there and be a political spinmeister.
Starting point is 02:02:52 Go out and vote. You might have that skill. Yes, everyone go vote today. Go vote. Tonight, Joy, we have the college football. Don't we have tonight the college football, the second college football playoff vote? I've got to tell you, the best team I've seen is Alabama. It's not close.
Starting point is 02:03:12 The two teams after that I like are Clemson and Notre Dame. I don't think there's a fourth. I don't. I think Alabama's here. Then I think it's Clemson, Notre Dame. You know, Michigan doesn't match up. And by the way, I'm the biggest Harbaugh fan of the world. But that offensive line does not match up with Clemson, does not match up with Alabama.
Starting point is 02:03:32 I'm not sure it matches up great again with Notre Dame. Dreaded stuffy nose and cold and flu season. Folks try VIX Cyanx nasal spray. Last up to 12 hours when congestion strikes. Vix Cinex nasal spray. Use as directed. We'll see you tomorrow. Go vote.
