Week two, really exciting weekend.

If you look around the whole landscape of college football, I want to start out in the South East Eastern Conference. buzzed through that, get to some national headlines as well. Oregon taking down Ohio State. That was huge. Florida State losing it home to Jacksonville State. Just a ton of crazy storylines early in the season, as we expected, and some great football. Just a full day of football.

Got the NFL the day as well and a big time week three. And it's Judgment Day. We've talked about this on the show multiple times. Week three is Judgment Day for almost a handful of teams, including a couple out of the SEC that we're going to get to. I want to start with Auburn and Alabama State. Let's get to some of the, you know, not Cupcake games, but the smaller games first. And setting up, you know, Auburn came out sloppy. If you look at the offensive line, they struggled in the first half, wide receiver struggling in the first half. You had some drops, some potential big drops, ones that next week at Penn State, when they go up in

Happy Valley, game day is going to be there. It's going to be an incredible scene. And, you know, did you expect Auburn to look ahead a little bit? Yes, they got it under control in the second half. Bo Nix, while it wasn't a 20 to 22 performance, thought he looked pretty good, put some balls in some good spots. You had Auburn led by Jarrez Hunter. Tank wasn't going to get 20 carries in this game, but Jarquez is really starting to solidify himself,

is that number two back. And we always talk about versatility on the show, if you look at Jarquez's hunter's ability like Tank to be able to catch the ball out of the back field, to be able to pass, protect. That's what's going to get you on the field. And that's why I think Jarquez Hunter and have thought that Jarquez Hunter was going to slide up to that number two role eventually. Now, I don't think you'll see a ton of Jarquez early in Happy Valley because of the situation,

Sean Schivers and Tank Bigsby. They've played in those type of environments, or at least they have a better idea. You know, Tank Biggsby last year with COVID in not allowing the stance to be. be full. Hasn't really experienced that yet, but he'll be fine. I don't think Tank's worried about that. Demetius Robertson did a good job. Catching the ball, made a really good catch for a touchdown.

Toward the back end of the end zone. They threw kind of the, you know, not the flood concept, but you basically got the deep fade in the corner of the end zone that he caught. It was a pretty good throw there by bone nix. Also, he took a jet sweep, a little speed sweep, whatever you want to call it, took it around the corner. And you really saw his speed, you know, if you could. He's not as fast as Anthony Schwartz, but wearing that jersey number when you see him move that the guy can really run.

I mean, 62 to nothing, you look, Alabama State had a couple chances, had the blocked field goal. We talk about special teams, and this is going to be huge, I think, against Penn State. I think it's going to be a little bit of a rock fight on offense and defense. It's going to be a field position game. It's going to be a lot of field goals kicked. And, you know, if you can get that big play on special teams, the one that separates you. you know, Alabama before they sort of beating people by 20 and 30, there would typically be a big punt return or a big kickoff return

or a big fumble forced on a kickoff or a punt that would change the game for them. And that's kind of how they played before the Nick Saban epiphany has occurred. A shout out to the booster club there. But nice performance from Auburn. It didn't have to be super flashy, but anytime you can score 62 points, they scored over 60 points or 60 points or more in their first two games. Going down the rest of the slate, looking at South Carolina East. Carolina. And this is a big momentum game for South Carolina. Is East Carolina a huge

dominating opponent? No, they're coming off a lost to App State. App State pretty much dominated them in that game. Early East Carolina was making some noise. But App State, who gave Miami a hell of a fight. Almost came true the fruition of, or prediction of Miami going down to App State. The game went about how I thought it was. Ab State just didn't get in line to kick a field goal at the end. But back to South Carolina, you know, if you really dive into this game, it wasn't the prettiest game of all time. But South Carolina did what they had to do going down, really, you know, 14 to nothing, battling back, making it 14 to 7 and half, tying it up in the third quarter, and then winning the fourth quarter, six to three, including the game winning field goal. And going through the numbers, and when Zeb Noland was announced the starter.

the GA, the literal coach on the field, as we call them. I really didn't know what to expect. I didn't know what to expect. But, you know, I didn't think he was going to be a superstar, and he hasn't been. He went 13 for 24 for 214 yards, a touchdown and an interception. And, you know, it's funny. We look now at South Carolina's running game, which is huge for Zeb. A lot of talk about Kevin Harris.

A lot of talk about Kevin Harris. We put out our list of top rank running backs in the SEC. Caught a lot of flag for that because Kevin Harris was number two. And he may not be the best running back on his own team anymore. I mean, you look at McDowell. I like his stop and start. Had 11 carries almost 7 yards per carry, 71 yards. And he's not a speed guy that's going to break off the 80-yarder.

His longest run, I think, was 16 yards. But he was good when they needed them to be good. setting up for that last field goal. They really leaned on him in the second half. You did have over 100-yard receiver of the van kit. I thought had a really big game, five catches. You know, average over 23 yards a catch. And with five catches, it's pretty damn good for 116 yards,

his long of 45. So the ebb and flow of that game, you know, South Carolina early gave up the trick-play touchdown to East Carolina. You're going to see a lot of those in week two. And you say, oh, why in week two? not in week one. Well, everybody in the world thinks that trick plays come in week one, especially depending on the game and the opponents.

But you get them week two. It's almost like running a trick play on the second play, not the first play. First play, you expect it. Second play, really don't expect it, trying to settle in. So big win for South Carolina, they get to 2 and O, really excited for Coach Pamer and everything they got going on over there. Again, I thought he was one of the sneaky hires. And that team from a personnel standpoint isn't ready to compete against a Georgia or really even a Kentucky right now.

I thought Missouri and I'm going to get to that game, thought they played pretty decent. But once they get right and you see the recruiting classes that Shane Beamer is bringing in, I mean, the commitments they have right now, it's no joke in South Carolina. And that atmosphere coached against it up there, it's tough. It's not easy at all. And so look at it next week. You know, South Carolina, congrats here, 2-0. Now you get to go play Georgia in a game at 7 p.m. Eastern, literally on ESPN.

So Georgia coming out that one against UAB. We'll dive into that into a second. Dive into that in a second. But looking at that game, I mean, it's a big one for Shane Beamer, big momentum win. And you're trying to get to six. But you're trying to get to six wins, trying to get to bowl eligibility, get some momentum going into the next year and use it in recruiting. Speaking of momentum, Tennessee played Pittsburgh.

We took pit one and a half when the Sharps came out, and this game to me was going to come down to whether Tennessee can play complimentary football. And without going huge into depth on that like we do in the show, remember you can find this live 2 to 3 Central on the volume YouTube channel. Tennessee comes out. We talk about complimentary football, the offense operating at work, speed with not enough personnel on defense, in my opinion, to be able to run that, especially from a depth standpoint when you get into the second half.

And it just makes you have to score at a clip that is almost impossible, especially for the roster Tennessee has offensively. But anyway, Pittsburgh, solid ACC team, coming into town, Pickett, the quarterback, Kenny Pickett, he's a guy that's been there for a while, it's very experienced, and ended up having a heck of a game. And Tennessee comes out and blocks the punt. You have the momentum. Everybody's going nuts at Neeland.

You know, they're feeling it. The Valle Navy's there. Everything's great. They come out. They block a punt. They end up going, I believe, up 10 to nothing, jumped out on them quick. And that Tennessee defense, you saw it not wear down early, but Pigget was able to extend some plays.

They're able to hit some crossers. You saw the dig get hit a couple times. and, you know, Tennessee ends up losing this game 41 to 34. They had a chance at the end to come back and tie it. But when they went down 41 to 27, when Pickett hit Jordan Addison, who was an absolute nightmare for Tennessee, that whole game to make it 41, 27. You almost felt like it was out of reach because Pittsburgh was able to control the line of scrimmage when Tennessee was on defense.

And you can say, oh, well, you know that's D-line personnel, or you can say, well, you know, when you're running that, that warp speed offense and all of a sudden it stalls a little bit for half a quarter and your defense is out there probably 20, 30 more snaps than what you need. You know, don't be shocked when this is what happens. And it wasn't like Pittsburgh had a, you know, super high rushing total from a certain guy. Habenaconda, I mean, had 12 carries for 43 yards. Davis had 19 carries for 33 yards. Pickett really only had 10 rushing attempts for 19 yards. Now he did have a touchdown and so. to Davis that ended up being big, especially the touchdown by picket because it was late in downs.

But it wasn't like, you know, Pittsburgh just lined up and ran it down Tennessee's throat. What they did was take them sideline to sideline. And if you look at the receiving stats, you know, you had the Matt kid go four for 100. You had Addison go six for 64 in a touch. You had Wayne go three for 56. Hell, you even had Kroll that tied in, a guy they talked about a lot in the pregame. he had three catches for 33 yards and a touchdown. So they were able to spread the wealth on Tennessee

and looking at Tennessee's offense. And Joe Milton went down, but man, how many times can Joe Milton miss a vertical ball and overthrow it? You know, I thought Josh Heifle, and we talked about this last night, yesterday when we went live, I thought Josh Heaple called a really good game. I thought he called a really good game.

But Joe Milton, whether it's Joe Milton, whether it's Tend and Hooker, they've got to be able to connect with these. guys that are wide open. I mean, if I'm Josh Heppel, I'm still looking for a quarterback. It begs the question, you know, how bad is Harrison Bailey? I mean, I'm watching V-Lis and these guys have two steps on the corners. And Joe Milton's got an arm.

He can throw at 800 yards, but the field's only 100 yards long. I mean, Milton, who went down with an injury, was 7 of 12 for 50 yards, no touchdowns, no interceptions. He's still not running with a ton of authority. he had a big run in the first half that I thought he could have scored on. Had another run where I thought he could have got the first down, he kind of checked up on. So he goes out, Hinden Hooker comes in, and see, here's where numbers can be interesting. Hinden Hooker had a long touchdown to Callaway on the sideline. Really long touchdown.

And if you go back and look at it, I believe it was, you know, 45 yards somewhere around there. excuse me, had a big one to Warren the tied-in. That was kind of Hooker's, you know, comfort zone. I know that that'll get some laps. But looking at the tied-in, Warren had five catches, 55 yards, and a touchdown, really leaned on him in the red zone. I thought Heppel did a good job of getting him to the middle of the field, and for some reason, Pittsburgh wouldn't adjust.

But Hooker comes in and throws, you know, the costly interception late. There was a couple more, I thought, that could have been picked, one that should have been picked, and Tennessee just has a quarterback problem to me. And you believe that, or excuse me, mix that with the uncomplimentary football. I guess I'm making up words here, but I just don't see how Tennessee is able to win any of these games in the second half. And I mean, a 41-34 score, those are the type games you're going to get with this offense and that personnel, if not worse, against even better teams.

it may be 56 to 20. And they're just bleeding out the clock in the second half. So Tennessee is kind of who we thought they were a little bit. But again, I thought Hypo called a good game, but you're not going to see that because you're going to see the overthows. There's a couple times, too. There's some smash calls where the corner wasn't hit. So it's, you know, tough game for Tennessee,

tough game for Tennessee fans, especially the way they came out. Because if you see the way that Tennessee came out and weren't able to finish in the way that Arkansas came out, and was able to finish. It kind of shows you the styles, in my opinion, the contrast. Speaking of contrast, a contrast to a good football team would be South Florida. Florida goes down there, wins 42 to 20. Surprise that South Florida scored 20.

South Florida beat them in the second half, 17 to 7, even though they were up 35 to 3. If you dive in the stats here and you look at this game and you go back and watch it, you know, Anthony Richardson comes in and is basically a superhero. And AR-15, one of the best nicknames in the game. Comes in, he goes three-for-three. You know, average 51 yards per pass attempt, 152 yards, two touchdowns, no interceptions. Emery Jones, 14 of 22, 151 yards, one touchdown, and two interceptions. Quarterback controversy.

I think so when you'll have people that still protect Emory and week three, Bama coming to town. We've been screaming in its judgment day. It's judgment day for Todd Grantham. And, you know, you start out with FAU, a team you struggled with a little bit early, ended up pulling away from. This game was never close, but USF is worse than FAU.

And I am still, I am still not sold on Florida. I mean, I want to go over this. I want to go over Richardson stats again. All right, this is just passing. Three for three. I average 51 yards per pass. 152 yards, two touchdowns.

That's in three passes. In four rushing attempts, averaged almost 30 yards per rush, 115 yards, a touchdown, and a long of 80. That makes two straight weeks that he's taken one from way out. And look, is Richardson going to throw you to a win? Is he going to take off for 80 against Bama next week?

No. But I do think he's the future at quarterback for Florida. and you might as well get him his reps now. You might as well. And if you watch Florida defensively and, you know, USF didn't have a passer over 100 yards, our runner over 50 yards total,

you wouldn't get a great read on how good Florida's defense is, but we still don't know. They're in the same boat as Auburn. We're not going to know until week three. and until we see it this weekend, we won't know 100% sure. But I've got a sneaking suspicion.

And, you know, Florida fans, they're as fateful and as loyal as they get, I just don't think this is the team this year. And seeing Missouri against Kentucky have some life yesterday really makes me still believe there's a good chance Florida is going to finish fourth in the east. I'm going to tell you he's going to finish first in the east. Georgia, without a doubt,

is going to finish first in the East. Played UAB in a game where J.T. Daniels, is he going to play? Is he not going to play? He ends up not playing. Don't worry. Stetson Bennett, aka the accountant, is going to come in and throw for five tuddies against UAB. He was very overmatched.

I was surprised, though, because if you kept looking at that line, Bill Clark and Jay Mitch and Coach Vincent over there, those guys are all buddies in line at UAB. We coach together South Alabama. I thought they'd come out and give them a little more of a problem or give a little more of a problem to Georgia's offense. UAB's got some guys on defense on that defensive line that are pretty talented.

If you go digging the numbers, I mean the leading rusher for Georgia only had 34 yards. I'm wondering how bad that Tate Routledge loss for the rest of the season is going to hurt Georgia. You know, with everything that went on in that game and with the JT injury, the loss of Rattlidge, the guard, the starting guard for Georgia, hasn't been pushed under the rug, but it hasn't been talked about a ton. I don't think we're going to talk about it a ton until. so they play an opponent that can really, really compete with him, and we'll see when that is.

I don't know if it's going to be any time soon, but the Georgia Front 7, I mean, watching Jordan Davis walk down the quarterback from UAB, Tyler Johnston on that one play, probably bumped him up to even a higher draft pick because that is going to be sent to every scout in the country, then they're going to send it to their scouting buddies and talk about it, because the guy that's 6-6, 340 pounds, should not be able to move like that. Like typically, you have to have another car follow him down the highway to let everybody know, hey, man, we're basically moving a mobile home at a high rate of speed.

That is what Jordan Davis is. He is basically a high rate of speed mobile home running straight at you and is athletic enough to change direction, not only catch you, but tackle you, which is horrifying on 14 different levels and will probably be the plot to the new conjuring movie that comes out in about two years and should be the scariest one. of all of them. So Georgia rolls, not unexpected there. Ursa, Alabama. The last thing you want to view of Florida was for Alabama to, you know, underperform, I guess, is one way to put it, but not to play their best or handle business 100% the way Nick Saban likes it against Mercer.

Now, this whole week, this whole week, Nick Saban is going to be, and he always is, but we say the term on one, right? He's going to be on one. There is going to be a lot of challenging in calling out this week at Alabama's practice, and this fits right into, 100% right into the narrative

that Nick Saban wants going into this Florida game. Though we're not as good as we think we are narrative or what everybody says we are, what, you know, Jay Boy's saying on the Jay Boy show, how good we are, this, that, and the other. and, you know, Bryce Young went for 227. They didn't have 100-yard rusher, didn't have 100-yard receiver. You know, but look, they rolled over Mercer.

Big week, week three against Florida. It's not Judgment Day for Alabama. We've got a pretty good idea what they're going to do, but damn sure it's Judgment Day for Florida. And we're going to continue to see how that operates as we get further than the season with Alabama being the most complete team, in my opinion, in the country. A&M and Colorado.

Now this game, to me, if you really look at it, from the start to the finish, Haines King goes down, Colorado, I thought, played exceptional on the defensive side. It was a 10 to 7 score. A&M wins. 10 to 7, they score a touchdown late. And I've had a ton of A&M fans. We had a bunch of A&M fans of the show.

Ask, okay, Haynes King's out, now what? And I'm going to get to that in a second. but I was very surprised of the lack of pass rush that A&M was getting on Colorado early. And it allowed Brandon Lewis, who ended up not with a great stat line, but to kind of settle in and say, all right, this is going to be the pace of this game, yet they only score seven points in Colorado missed some opportunities. You know, they had some plays down the field that were, it was either a bad throw, you had a couple drops.

A&M secondary, I still think it's a question mark, but the defense came through when A&M had to have them. The question now is offensively, if Haynes King's not able to come back, what are you going to get from Calzada? I'll tell you what you're not going to get. You're not going to get the run game from the quarterback standpoint that you would have gotten from Haynes King.

That's obvious, but what does that mean? That means now that defenses don't have to really account for the quarterback. That takes a spy out. Now, any type of zone read or anything. any type of power read or any type of, you know, really quarterback run game outside of a draw or a sneak, you're going to let play out. And Calzada is not going to do that. Now, they threw the ball 38 times with Calzada yesterday.

So Jimbo's not afraid to let him go out there and start slinging it. Now, will that result in turnovers? Will that result in points? There's a reason he was the backup coming in. And then, you know, doing things like letting the ball come out before you cross the goal, And look, it's an effort play. And I get it. I get it.

But those are things that can't happen in big games. And we're going to talk a ton about this during the week. I think this is going to have a huge effect on how the West ends up. And you say, oh, Jake, well, that's obvious. You know, why are you making obvious statements? Well, we had A&M, you know, being a challenger, I didn't happen beating Alabama, but being a challenger to really get that two spot in the SEC West. and now if you're a team like Auburn

or you're a team like Ole Miss and we still have to see on Auburn and really still Ole Miss because I don't think Louisville is that good the door just keeps opening a little bit more and a little bit more you saw LSU against UCLA

didn't look phenomenal against McNeese State is A&M going to be able to put up a bunch of points they need some of those guys on the outside to really step up the Chapman's the Deems He says, Jalen Watermeyer, a guy we're going to have on the show this week. Got to step up.

I mean, he's going to have to really be the guy. You have Spiller, you have a chain, you have all these weapons. But Calzada's got to be able to get him the ball. And Calzada ended up throwing from 183 yesterday. But A&M is struggling to run the ball. If that offensive line, you've got to give Colorado credit. But they're going to play defenses that are a lot better than Colorado, especially up front.

If A&M's not able to run the ball, ball and you have to be one-dimensional with Calzada, I don't see A&M's offense being super productive. And you're not going to give up seven points to some of it, to the Ole Misses, to the Alabama's. So they're going to have to find a way to run the ball. They're going to have to regroup that offensive line because we know last year that was their MO, that was their strength, that was who they are. That's something to really keep an eye on as we get to next week.

you know, if you look at the schedule, A&M's got New Mexico, I'll go through it here at the end. But, you know, it's going to get pretty interesting if A&M isn't able to run the ball. And we're going to talk about that a little more this week. You know, we've had Billy Lucian kind of talking about it now with the King injury. It just throws another wrench into the party. Speaking of a party, I want to give my hats off to Sam Pittman and the Arkansas staff. They moved to 2&0. absolutely dismantled Texas, really from the beginning.

I mean, bumper pool didn't play in the first half, but Arkansas shuts them out. They're up 16 to nothing at halftime. And for lack of a better phrase, Arkansas just came out and beat him up. Just beat him up. And it wasn't like KJ. Jefferson was out there throwing the ball around, you know, like he played for the Harlem Globetrotters.

I mean, he ended up 14 to 19 for 13 yards in a pick. but Arkansas just ran all over them offensively, won the battle up front defensively. This game wasn't even as close as the final score indicated. I mean, if you look at Arkansas's rushing stats, let me go down the line. You talk about spreading the wealth. Smith, 12 carries, 75 yards a touchdown.

KJ. Jefferson, the quarterback, 10 carries, 73 yards, long of 34. Green, seven carries, 70 yards, a touchdown. Rocket Sanders, who's going to be a stud. eight carries for 50 yards and a touchdown. Johnson, six carries for 44 yards and a touchdown. I mean, when you're going to run for those numbers and you're going to spread the love out like that, you can have a leading receiver that only had 45 yards.

And is Arkansas offense complete? No, but they physically dominated that game from the jump to the end. Hudson Card, Texas quarterback, ends up going 8 to 15 for 61 yards. Thompson came in late at 5'8, 60 yards, a couple rushing touchdowns and make it look a little closer than it was. But we talked about,

and during the week, toward the end of the week, just excited for Arkansas fans to be able to play in a game that matters, that they have a shot and that matters. And not only did they get that, they thrived. I mean, Fayetteville was electric. you could feel it to the TV. And from a recruiting standpoint,

and trolling on Twitter and all that stuff's great. But for Sam Pittman now, for a whole year, to be able to walk into a high school and say, oh yeah, Texas is coming to the SEC, I know they've offered you. Let me tell you a little story about Arkansas and Texas last year. And we're going to dive deep into Texas and Oklahoma coming in the SEC. I put out a few videos when they're going to be.

that happened. Just saying, you know, nothing crazy. Just be careful what you wish for because the SEC in the regular season, this isn't a one-off bowl game with eight opt-outs. The regular season's different over here. And you're luckier in the Big 12 because typically you have to go play Arkansas than next week, hey, guess what? You get to play LSU. That's what separates the SEC. So hats off to Arkansas is a fantastic performance now. Does KJ. Jefferson still have a long way to go? Yes. And Arkansas fans will tell you that. Kendall Bryles will tell you that, the OC. But I thought it was, you know, it speaks a lot to Kendall, who's really a guy that wants

to throw the ball. Kendall Braves wants to throw the ball all around the yard, but realizing how much they were dominating up front, how well them mixing up the zone scheme and the GAAP scheme was working against Texas and not to get greedy. I say on the show all the time, offensive coordinators and quarterbacks are the greediest people on the planet. And I don't mean that in a sense of, you know, they're going to go pickpocket. you when you're not looking.

But they want to take shots. They want that 300-yard passing line. They love it. They need it. That's what they think. They go to bed dreaming about spinning that ball out on the vertical and the receiver taken off and going for 70. You know, chicks dig the long ball.

But I thought it showed a lot of maturity. By not only KJ. Jefferson, you know, to not be like, all right, hey, you know, let's start throwing it. They're loading the box. Let's start throwing it. or Kendall Browler was like, all right, hey, you know, I know the run's working, but let's keep them off balance because that's typically what you hear. Nope, they stuck to their guns. Imagine an Olympics where doping is not only legal, but encouraged. It's the enhanced games.

The first half, Texas didn't score a point. Didn't score a point. Barry Odom, a guy last year that we talked about a ton, because I thought he did more with less than just about anybody. From a personnel standpoint, Arkansas all's 2 and O. and the momentum and the feeling this morning in Arkansas has to be amazing. You get Georgia Southern at home next week. You should be 3 and 0, even though you don't overlook anybody.

So just we're very excited for the Arkansas program, very excited for the Arkansas fan base. And they showed up. Look, the SEC, it's different. It's different. We're really going to hammer that home shocker. Alert, alert, shocker. We're really going to hammer that home this week on the show. All right, as we continue here, another game that I was very fascinated to see,

and we thought Mississippi State was going to win. The line kept kind of change. It was Mississippi State, NC State. And if you remember during the week, we talked about watching NC State against USF, who, by the way, was horrible. A team they beat 45 to nothing to open up the season, their quarterback play wasn't very good throughout the whole game. Even though they were scoring, the passes were.

Errant. USF had a chance to really, if you go back and actually really watch that game, USF had a great chance a couple times early to score, didn't hit on it. NC State basically took him to task the rest of the time. But so NC State goes to Mississippi State. In a big game for Mississippi State, if you watched, the Bulldogs played terrible in the first half against Lock Tech. They ended up coming back, winning the game late, Will Rogers, who I think maybe the most underrated quarterback in the SEC was able to bring him back. And, like, NC State had a 300-yard passer. Okay, I mean, Leary went 30 to 49 for 303 a touchdown and interception,

but he's still an errant thrower, an errant thrower. And Mississippi State came out, and I thought the defensive plan was pretty good. You know, if you take away, if you take away the top threat from NC State, And you can say this about a lot of offenses, but the offenses that are the deadliest are the ones that are the most versatile, where you have at least two different threats, regardless of position. It could be a tight end of receiver. It could be two running backs. You have to have multiple people that can hurt you. And NC State really doesn't.

They really don't. And, or excuse me, NC State really doesn't. And Mississippi State was able to take away really the one weapon that they had. And look, with Mike Leach, if you look at the rushing numbers from Mississippi State, and you didn't have a guy rush for over 19 yards. And that's why I don't think it's going to work in the SEC. I just don't think you can smoke-draw your way and air raid your way to an SEC championship, especially consistently with what this league is going to give you.

But Mississippi State dominated this game. They were the better team in this game. Of 14 to 3 at halftime, low-scoring game. I know a lot of people thought this was going to be high-scoring. It's 14 to 3. Then Mississippi State came out in the third quarter and shut him out. I mean, going into the fourth quarter, Mississippi State had given up three points.

It was 21 to 3. And is this Mississippi State team going to make some noise in the West? I don't think so. But this was a very solid win for them in a year 2 under Mike Leach. And we talk about complimentary football. We talk about Tennessee operating at warp speed. See, what Mike Leach does isn't, isn't really super up-tempo.

Now, they can go up-tempo. They're just going to spread you out. It's just the opposite philosophy of what you're going to get from Gap Scheme teams. Instead of getting big and building the offense from inside out, Mississippi State is going to build it from outside and across. What Mike Leach tries to do is he tries to hit you

and cross you to death and then go vertical. That's what he does. It's really what the air rate is. And if you really dive, into the numbers. I mean, Rogers goes 33 or 49. Basically 300 yards and two touchdowns. That's a solid day.

That's a solid day. But what's funny is how Mississippi State and Mike Leach tries to replace that running game with a passing game to the running back, almost substituting for the runs. Johnson had

six carries for 18 yards, along of eight, on the ground. But as a receiver, he had six catches for 70 yards and along a 26. Jordan Wally continues to just score touchdowns in every game he plays in. He had five catches for 44 in a touch, and they're going to spread the wealth at Mississippi State in the passing game because they have to because when you pass that much, that's what's going to happen.

I'm just wondering, in the red zone, when it matters, in the SEC, does Mississippi State have the capability to run the ball when they have to to score. And I just don't think they do. And then they go to Memphis this next week in a sneaky little game. Sneaky little game. Not a long drive from Starkville to Memphis, but a sneaky little game. And they can't have a letdown. That's a big one for Mississippi State.

Nice program win for Mississippi State. And they needed that coming off last week when Mike Leach said they'd kind of quit and this, that, and the other. You know, LSU, McNeice, Austin P, Ole Miss, you know, not a time to go here. Ole Miss really overmatched Austin P, beating 5417. Matt Corral there basically taking selfies and Instagram videos by about the third quarter. Wasn't a big match there coming off a nice win for Oleville.

And again, like I said earlier with A&M, if you're watching A&M and the offensive line isn't able to get that type of movement, if you're a team like Ole Miss, I mean, it's got to make you feel pretty good. Now, A&M can improve and this, that, and the other. But that's the big worry for Ole Miss is being able to stop the run. I don't think they're going to be able to consistently stop the pass. But if they're playing a one-dimensional team, that helps a whole hell of a lot. I'm DJ Durkin.

If I can make you one-dimensional, because Ole Miss only has to give up. You know, if they can give up 31 or less, they'll have a chance to win a lot of games, a lot of games and you know you look at the schedule going into next week I mean they get Tulane and home a Tulane team that went out there and fought Oklahoma beat Morgan State upside down

so it'll be another good little test now it's a game they should win and do I think Tulane's going to be able to recreate what they did at Oklahoma you know they were down 37 to 14 in the second half no I don't see it you know LSU played McNeese didn't look great Max Johnson had three touchdowns

to help pull away from McNeese you know, really in the second half. They basically beat them 17 to nothing and 17 to 7. Jury's still out on LSU. Jury's still out on LSU. And, you know, when I look at this from the full, from the full, you know, 30,000 foot view, I just think LSU is in a lot of trouble.

They still didn't look smooth and you get Central Michigan at home this week. You want to talk about an upset special? I almost called the Ab State one word for word. This is one we've been kind of hitting at. Central Michigan went to Missouri. It looked pretty good even though they lost the game. And if LSU isn't ready for this one, you thought week one was bad?

Let them lose to Central Michigan. I don't know if he makes it to Mississippi State. So still a ton of questions marks at LSU. Missouri and Kentucky, first SEC game of the year, ended up being a barn burner. ended up being a barn brain. You know, Kentucky jumped out, ended up going up by seven and halftime.

Missouri had a big score late in that half to cut it to seven. Will Levis. You got to love his toughness. You got to love his toughness. And you got to love Kentucky's toughness as a team. Now defensively, I was very surprised at the way Missouri was able to run the ball, especially late, and I know Beatty's a good back. but even Basilac being able to take off

and Connor isn't exactly Usain Bolt but was able to still hit him when it mattered too for first downs he's not going to rush for 100 yards you know he only rushed for 30 but there was a big 30 yards when he did it now Will Levis went 10 of 18

179 touchdown in a pick had 25 yards in a touchdown rushing and I think Will will tell you not his best game but this game shouldn't have been as close as what it was. The Rodriguez Fumble going into the end zone that would have put Kentucky up, I believe, three scores at home all the momentum right before halftime. I think that could have buried Missouri,

and it was a heck of a play by the Missouri safety, but Kentucky's still able to win. I mean, Chris Rodriguez, even though he fumbled, you talk about a workhorse, 27 carries, 7.6 yards. of carry, 206 rushing yards, and three touchdowns. That's the day at the office. And like I said, as nice as it was for Kentucky, you be able to run the ball.

If they're not able to stop the run, that could present a big problem. Could present a big problem. But I thought Liam Cohen did a good job calling that game in the second half. Levis, just tough, tough, tough, especially at the end. And Connor Bezalak, a guy we get on the show every week.

He had a great showing. I mean, 34-51, 3,000. hundred yards pass, four tuts, an interception. You know, I thought Connor played pretty well, but the Missouri defense just isn't up to task. Speaking of Central Michigan, a team that's going to play LSU, they ran all over that Missouri front seven, and now, you know, you gave up. I'm not a mathematician, but it's over 300 yards rushing. And Missouri, a team we think can compete with Ford, I think that's going to be a very

interesting game because Ford's got to go there. And again, the jury's still out. We had four to finish and fourth in the east. So the jury's still out there. Nice win for Kentucky to get to 2-0, 1-0 in the SEC, the first SEC team with a win. I'm going to see if they can keep the momentum going. And we're going to round this out. Why not give a shout-out to maybe the most improved team from week one to week two I've ever seen?

And Colorado State is not a good football team. But how about Vanderbilt losing at home to east? Tennessee State goes out to Fort Collins, Colorado, and picks up the dub against Colorado State after falling behind 14 to nothing. What an amazing performance. I mean, Clark Lee, talk about getting your team up off the mat. Ken Seals goes for 238. Very consistent. It was ugly early, and Vanderbilt's still not a good team.

but I think it kind of shows you you know, number one, how crazy college football can be, how it can turn around that quickly. But Clark Lee, if he didn't have their attention before, he had it now. And is that the only game Vandy's going to win? Wouldn't be shocked.

They get Stanford at home and what would be a heck of a mathematics competition as well. Stanford and Vandy next week on ESPNU. But shout out to Vandy and Clark Lee. That's a big one for them.
