Starting point is 00:02:20 All right, guys. So it was already going to be our lead podcast topic. But in addition to the Nets, giving up 153 points in a basketball game against the Sacramento Kings, that's the most points that Kings have scored in 29 years. When did they score more than that? Like, what was this, how many points was it prior?
Starting point is 00:02:41 Because that's insane. I don't know. My family could not afford cable at that time. I was a child, so. Man, we was in and out of cable too, man. I hated that shit. Hated that shit, bro. Wild quality of life swings.
Starting point is 00:02:53 Crazy, bro. Going to my grandmothers and recording, like, BT and shit and bringing it back. To watch it. Oh, man. All right. Tyler. You brought it to our attention This Chris Haynes piece.
Starting point is 00:03:10 A lot of quotables in it. I'm sure we'll get through all of them. But what was your first response to the piece and to, you know, Kevin Durant saying what he had to say? And this story coming out, crazy timing, obviously, on the heels of that 153 points by the Kings. What are your thoughts, bro? Kings got these motherfuckers soul searching, bro.
Starting point is 00:03:32 Like, how are you going to media blitz? because the Kings drop 153 on you. But God damn. But I left the article feeling a bit confused, I guess, is the best way to put it. I mean, you know, it seemed like it was very genuine from K.D. You know, it seems like he was shooting from the heart. You know, I'm not at all saying he was being phony. It doesn't seem like some dressed up like PR move or whatever.
Starting point is 00:03:52 It seems like, you know, he just hopped on the phone, Chris Haynes or sat down on him or whatever the hell and just shot straight. You know, that's what it feels like. So, you know, while I definitely appreciate the authenticity of it, like I said, I left a bit confused and the things that confused me were for one he mentioned you know lack of preparation lack of dedication lack of practice in talking about why he kind of wanted Steve now yeah yeah yeah as as a reason you know why he wanted out why he wanted you know the culture to shift there and you know I'm want to be clear I'm not at all saying Katie is full of shit for saying that was his reason for wanting out because Katie is a notorious hard worker right like he lives eats he's your brain
Starting point is 00:04:28 he's basketball yeah yeah so I can completely understand him wanting out because that was not the that's culture. You know, like I said, I wholeheartedly believe when he says that. But the subtext there is like, you know, here is a team. The subtext feels like, you know,
Starting point is 00:04:46 for that to be Katie's line of thinking is that a team that is dedicated to preparation, is a team that will be competitive, right? So I don't know how he can say that and then turn around and give us that quote where he's like, look at the four guys who I'm out here with, right? Like, we're not going to accomplish shit
Starting point is 00:05:01 no matter how prepared we are if we're keeping it a buck. Like that was, you know, the read I got on that. So it felt confusing to me there like, do you want to be on a competitor or what? So I was just confused with that. And also the whole leadership, you know, topic. Like, you know, I'm with them on the whole public grandstanding. It's not the only way to be a leader.
Starting point is 00:05:20 I completely get that. But I feel like, you know, mentioning your teammates by name and saying, look at these guys. Yeah. Yeah. I feel like that's bad leadership. You know what I mean? Like, you ain't have to call the homies out like that, bro. You know what I mean?
Starting point is 00:05:37 The quote, if I can read that quote in particular, because I know that's what everyone's going to be talking about the rest of the day. Look at our starting lineup. Edmund Sumner, Royce O'Neill, Joe Harris, Klaxton, and me. It's not disrespect. But what are you expecting from that group? You expect us to win because I'm out there. So if you're watching from that lens,
Starting point is 00:05:58 you're expecting us to play well because number seven is out there. Right. Right. Right. So yeah, and that's another thing. I don't get how he has, he puts up this whole, you know, I don't care what people think about me. Then says, I'm going to get all the blame. I want out because I know that, you know, if we're not prepared, we're going to be a shit show and everyone's going to be pointing a finger at me. So, like that's another thing that I didn't get that confused with here. So like I said, I left confused from this piece, but it did feel like Katie was being genuine, feel like he was being a straight shooter. I mean, I think the biggest takeaway here is, you know, this is a dude who, you know, sees the bigger picture and he's like, yo, I'll get paid. Oh, fuck. and a ton of money to be a hooper, and I love that aspect of my life. You know, that was like the main takeaway of God from him.
Starting point is 00:06:38 But some of the points that he was sitting on just confuse me. I mean, for me, it seemed like when he was, with the Katie shit, I mean, with him wanting to leave in the summer with Steve National, that I was thinking like, this is bad coaching. They're not preparing as best as possible. I think he was looking at who they had at the time. You know, Kyrie was, could potentially still be on the team. Simmons was going to be playing this year.
Starting point is 00:07:00 So I don't think, I don't know if that necessarily, is connected with what he said about, you know, look at these fucking bums I'm playing with, which I don't think he actually said that. You know what I mean? I mean, I know, like, we're joking about it and shit. But I don't know if it's necessarily connected with that. So I do understand, though, like at that time, that's what he felt and him wanting to be, like, yo, we have decent players, you know, but I know what it takes to win a fucking chip
Starting point is 00:07:23 and we're not fucking doing it. And Steve Nash, you do too, because you were a part of that fucking team. You were working with the fucking guards and we're not fucking doing that shit. You know what I'm saying? I want to be as prepared as possible. and they just weren't, you know. And also I think he talked about, like, I think it talks about how I'm getting embarrassed
Starting point is 00:07:39 in the fucking losing. And he talked about that, actually, yeah. Him getting embarrassed against the Celtics. You know what I'm saying? Them getting swept. You know, him being there and experiencing that, you know, he didn't want to run that back, bro. Like, we need to fucking get our shit together.
Starting point is 00:07:52 You feel what I mean? We're not doing that. He wants to do more close outs. You know what I mean? You know, how can he get better? But anyway, I wasn't necessarily confused about that. I definitely see what you're saying with, like, the leadership shit.
Starting point is 00:08:02 Like him saying, like, it's not his, I think he talked about he didn't want, as far as a leader, that's not how he wanted to go about doing it. And then he calls those guys out. To me, like, I'm a person that's not, like, I'm not, if, if, if I was in front of the camera, I'd be Kevin Durant. You know what I'm saying? Like, I'd be the guy that would, this is what I want to do, but sometimes I'm not going to do that because I'm not fucking perfect. You know what I mean? He doesn't want to go out and say, like, you know, like, I think when he was talking about not going out and speaking, he was talking about, his situation with Kyrie right
Starting point is 00:08:33 like I talked to him personally I'm not going to go out there and be like yo this is what I said to Kyrie you know what I'm saying and also that didn't that wasn't just basketball that was other shit you know what I'm saying and so like any and he doesn't really talk about that type of show
Starting point is 00:08:49 shit like you said he's just all basketball this conversation when he asked him like Chris asked him a question and he says you know hey look at what we who we have he's that's not the way to go about doing that, obviously, right? You don't have to throw the money on the bus. I think he was comfortable.
Starting point is 00:09:07 He's talking to Chris Haines. We know, like, people just are really comfortable with. That's why he gets, that's why he has a job he's has. That's why he's as good as he is because he's, he asks questions, people who say things comfortably to him. And he just seemed like he was just like, yo. And regardless of how you feel about it, you can't say the motherfucker a lie. Everything that came out of their consent came across is genuine and it was truthful.
Starting point is 00:09:26 But yeah, like you said, it's not the best thing to say. But I didn't necessarily dig too. deep into it as far as like tripping off of it. I was like, you know, true, but, but also, you know, I just think, I just think he's a human that in the moment, I was answered a question. That's what it came across as me. But he's not just a human. He's Kevin Durant.
Starting point is 00:09:47 So, yeah. I mean, we've seen this before, like, when he had, when he got caught on the burner, the tweet was, look at who they had me playing with an OKC. Yeah, yeah. I can't win with those guys. You know what I mean? So, yeah, we've seen this from Kevin Durant before, so. Yeah, but I mean, like, okay, if you, if you just, if you rapping with Chris Haynes,
Starting point is 00:10:06 wouldn't you, I mean, that's, that, that's a, that's a real one, you feel me? Yeah. I mean, but also, Mike, you're, you're, you're a fucking journalist, you know what I'm saying? And the way you move is like, bro, I'm talking, like, I'm, I'm, you know who I am. I'm gonna fuck around this situation, I might not say. You feel me? You know, like, I just, I can, I can relate to that degree. I don't think it was as egregious as it may, as it may seem.
Starting point is 00:10:31 personally. You know what I mean? You know, my approach to shaking my head if you're talking to Chris Haynes is not because I'm a journalist, it's because I have people who work for me, most of whom are younger than me and not as good at our job as I am. I'm not Kevin Durant in sports writing, but I'm respected in my city, right? We get complaint emails. We get complaint comments
Starting point is 00:10:58 on our social media about something maybe a 23-year-old writer does or something, I consider it my responsibility to never, ever say they're not good enough or whatever. I'll talk to the person individually, but you can't in the same article, like, you know, all of his quotes in here about legacy and leadership. And I will say, you know, and we've talked, he's one of my favorite basketball, one of my five favorite basketball players of all time. Like, I have a Kevin Dore.
Starting point is 00:11:29 Maybe the biggest bucket has ever touched the fucking basketball. Yeah. Great basketball player. And so part of me is really sad because the article sounds like a guy who feels like he's looking at the final act of his career. And he's talking about. He plays 32. Yeah. And he said he's talking about appreciating every day and all this shit, right?
Starting point is 00:11:49 So that part of me is just sad about that. But the other thing is if you're going to talk about leadership and like Tyler said, you can't in the same article talk about not grant. standing and then go the lineup sucks outside of me you just can you just can't fucking do that bro and i don't and i don't care if you run a fucking liquor store or if you're one of the three most famous athletes in the world you just can't say that shit whether you're talking to chris haines or you're on a burner account or whatever bro you i understand it's taking that way to me and i think the way he meant it was what do you truly expect out of this lineup you know what i'm saying like you expect me.
Starting point is 00:12:29 But what does that mean, John? I mean, I mean, it means that they, like, you're not going to, it means everyone will be, no, he didn't say they,
Starting point is 00:12:37 you're not going to win a championship with these guys. You know what, what is, and people have been expecting, like great things from the Nets. Like they aren't trotting these motherfuckers out. And he's saying like,
Starting point is 00:12:48 bro, they had K.D. Kyrie and Hardin with a bench. We're talking about this week. This, I mean, not this week, this year, this season.
Starting point is 00:12:56 But he's not talking about this season. And he's talking about, like, he's talking from the expectations placed on them when he went there, in my opinion. That's why he's talking so much about legacy. And I think that's why he's grasping in straws about leadership because ultimately, we can all see it. Hardin's not wearing any of the shit for the fucking net's not working out. Kyrie's not wearing any of the shits because everyone's kind of writing him off as crazy. And Steve Nash got fired. So he's the last one holding the fucking bag, you know, and I think he's kind of trying to talk his way out of it a little bit.
Starting point is 00:13:28 I think he doesn't understand, like we talked about, he doesn't understand who he is, he's fucking Kevin Durant and how people are going to take such shit, right? But I think that the statement didn't come across him saying, like, these niggas is fucking bums. Like him saying, I understand, I understand how that's what we would, you know, come up, that's where we would go with it or crack a joke about it.
Starting point is 00:13:47 The shit really, to me, he seemed like he was saying, like, this is who we have. This is not a great team as a whole. You know what I'm saying? Like, that's what it came. That's when I read it, that's exactly what I thought. I didn't know how, and I was thinking like, I laughed a little bit, honestly. You know, I mean, obviously, you know what I'm saying?
Starting point is 00:14:05 But I was thinking like, I think this is what he meant. I didn't see all the other shit until like I went on Twitter when y'all are, you know, and saw like, you know, people going back and forth about it. Yeah. All right. I've got two quick things. Number one is I think Kevin Durant, we, at the end of the article he's talking about, like the way I'm mentoring Cam, Cam Thomas, that's my legacy, right?
Starting point is 00:14:25 Yeah, yeah, yeah. Your legacy is you're like, one of the raws dudes fucking ever in history, right? You could not know anything about basketball and watch that dude play and understand he was one of the greatest ever. That's your fucking legacy. But he's simultaneously like one of the most powerful guys ever and kind of putting up this like, well, I'm helpless old Kevin Durant.
Starting point is 00:14:48 Like, you know, I don't have any help. And like the coach that I picked sucked. The teammate that I picked, like, I don't know how you expect me to lead him. He was like, you led him to Brooklyn. You, y'all picked Brooklyn. That was your decision, you know. So, but the thing, and I just think he confuses his job with our job. Your job is just to be the fucking rawest ever.
Starting point is 00:15:12 You don't have to comment on the makeup of the team. That's Chris Haynes' job. That's our job. But nobody's doing it. Nobody's doing it. When motherfuckers talk about this team, nobody's talking about, well, yeah, the makeup isn't the best. You know what I'm saying? for the most part, they're saying it's all jokes and shit.
Starting point is 00:15:29 You know what I'm saying? I've been, I've seen a lot of people saying KD deserves a better roster to still be this good in the Twilight. I haven't seen a lot of that. I haven't seen a lot of that. I haven't seen a lot of that. But the other thing I'll say, and this is a pretty big sweeping statement, but I think it's time to, we talk about the player empowerment era. And I think it's time to acknowledge that like Braun was good at that shit.
Starting point is 00:15:54 And who else? like we had one dude who is as big as Jordan who successfully leveraged the NBA like really the whole NBA conferences of the NBA to what he wanted them to be and this shit not only has not worked for other people but it has been horrific for a lot of other people who tried this shit this sucks so bad for KD
Starting point is 00:16:22 bro none of this is the shit we should ever be talking about with a basketball player as good as Kevin Durant. But it's a different world to try and be the coach, GM, and player. It's not even working for Braun right now. And there's nothing wrong with being like, I'm one of the five or ten best players ever. And that's all I'm worrying about. Maybe you end up lucky like Steph in a situation with a great front office is putting together a competitive roster around you. Maybe you don't and you make a free agency decision to go to Miami or play with the front office that will put a competitive team right you, whatever. But maybe that's the only decision you need to make for your quality of life,
Starting point is 00:17:02 as well as our quality of what we're watching. You know what I mean? Maybe we can close the book on that shit a little bit and just fucking who, bro. I don't know. You're saying let the GM do GM shit, as you said. I'm with you on that. You know, I, like I said, I appreciate KD being genuine. I appreciate the bigger picture aspect of the way he's looking at things.
Starting point is 00:17:22 But, bro, you're still a 30 point per game guy. you are still good enough to be the best player on a championship team right now right like and that whole my legacy is going to be what i taught cam thomas in 20132 that's jared dutley talk dog like that is not 30 point per game 50 40 90 90 guy talk dude but um i'm godas has them yeah right you're not fucking udan yeah but i think that this this article all these quotes is just kind of a perfect example of the whole fucking struggle that katy has been going through ever since the golden state move, which is do you care about public perception or not? Because it sounds like you're confused about that too. Like, you know, you say that you don't care about what your legacy is. Your legacy is
Starting point is 00:18:04 what you're doing with the guys behind the scene and practice, building them up to each other and all that. Then in the very same article, you say that you want it out because you didn't want fingers being pointed at you because they weren't prepared and they were going to stink it up. So you do care in that aspect, but then you don't care in the legacy aspect. So like I said, I just left this article confused. I mean, with the legacy, should I understand because like how people we're sitting on him for the, for the, uh, um, Golden State shit, I think you have to, like, to make it through that situation, like, and get past that.
Starting point is 00:18:33 You have to turn, you have to, you know, adjust certain ways you think about stuff. You know what I mean? And I, and I, and I, and I, and I, and I really think he, he's thinking about it, like, how do I think about myself when he was saying that. That's what, I mean, like, how to see, what matters to him? You know what I mean? Like, he's done all these other things within the league. You know, there's not, it's not debatable where he, whether he's one of the best players
Starting point is 00:18:54 every. Like I said, like, you know, Mike was saying he's one of the biggest buckets ever touched the basketball, if not the biggest bucket. You know what I'm saying? So, like, to him, what matters to him at the moment? And I think, like, he talked about how that Achilles changed him. I think going to Golden State has changed him. But yeah, there's some contradicting shit, but I mean, we're not monolith, you know what I said? I mean, I contradict myself all the fucking time and thought, like, probably, you know what I'm saying? So I don't know. I kind of get it. I don't think it was, I don't think any of that was, I wasn't too confused. I just took it for, you know, face value. And a lot of it kind of,
Starting point is 00:19:24 you know, made sense to me, like, within the, within the question or the context in which it was asked, you know what I'm saying? I mean, I'll say this. For a guy who is as openly honest with us as Kevin Durant is, do you have a good read on him? Because I don't, no, no, I don't, I don't, I don't have a good read on him. But I think I've got a good read on him as frustrating. I think he's figuring things out.
Starting point is 00:19:45 I think he's just, it's a hard time and he's talked about that. You know what I'm saying? And he's trying to be like, you know, shit, well, I'm going to just enjoy being out here. Like he's trying to find the positive. What was that quote he had that time? Where he was talking about how, like, it was something, I forget the quote, but it talks about basically how he thinks about stuff. Like he doesn't chase shit because he'll always be chasing things, you know what I'm saying?
Starting point is 00:20:08 So he's not like chasing happiness or any of that shit. You know, I mean, I'll always leave you chase. You'll never be, you know, so I think he's just trying to think positive about the situation. Like, you know, they're not winning, but he's finding the positives within it, you know. And I think he does find basketball fun. I think he wants to win He's competitive and he's frustrated by that But he's enjoying shit
Starting point is 00:20:26 Overall he's a happy person And I think he's conflating him Being unhappy with the team With him being unhappy overall As people are describing him Like how Chuck described him So he says I'm a happy person I'm rich as fuck
Starting point is 00:20:38 I play basketball for the game I'm fucking happy You know and Chuck's basically saying That he's not happy with basketball You know what I'm saying And he's saying no I am happy You know what I'm saying And I think so I think it's
Starting point is 00:20:48 That's why I think he's coming from Does that make sense to y'all? I mean like I told you the biggest the one thing that I think he made you know perfectly clear in this article is you know I'm blessed I'm living a blessed life I'm super rich doing something I love I think that's the clear thing that everybody that people are you know making me to be and I you know so that's what it's what it seemed like he was you know referring to your piping hot takes served up fresh on the volume start the NFL week right with a no sweat same game parlay every Thursday from Fandul, America's number one sportsbook. So I would go with the Packers to win and I would take some player props. for Aaron Rogers. I think he gets it back on track with that downfield passing game. I want to talk to you about the lie of the fucking decade told by a TNT executive, a Warner Brothers executive, who's trying to, he's kind of trying to beat Joe Sy a little bit and fucking reassert his authority or some shit, I don't know. But this dude as part of the negotiations between the NBA and Turner, Warner Brothers, to try and keep the NBA on TNT, said, TNT.
Starting point is 00:23:18 And T does not need to have the NBA. Listen to me. Who has a better shot of succeeding? T&T without the NBA or me hosting Jenkins and Jones without the two of you. Neither one of them's getting out of the fucking port, Bubba. Yo, you're better than Judge Judy reruns. Come on, Mike. You know what I'm saying?
Starting point is 00:23:42 Like, are they still playing Highlander over there? Like, I don't know what the fuck's going on T&T outside of basketball. So, yeah, that's ridiculous. Yeah, they wild as hell because that's the only time my TV touches that dial, bro, is for NBA game nights on Tuesday and Thursdays. I am not fucking turning into watch Franklin and Bash or whatever the fuck. Are you kidding? Like, you're going to put the franchise on fucking Zach Moore on 52-year-old Zach Morrison's shoulders.
Starting point is 00:24:09 You know, he's going to lead out to the promise land. He has a-frickland and Bash, bro. They're lawyers or detectives or some shit. I don't know what the fuck they are, but is it in New York? It's always in New York For paying a little bit of attention To the commercials I remember the Franklin
Starting point is 00:24:21 and Bash commercials And what was the other one What was the one about the white people Drug Empire It was like white narcos or whatever I do not remember The kingdom No something with animals
Starting point is 00:24:32 What the fuck Animal country Well Bones Oh animal country This is proof that nobody's watching T&T Outside of basketball
Starting point is 00:24:41 They signed them boys What Chuck in them What 10 years 10 year contract That's how lucrative it is We want to, you know what I'm saying? Like, dude, that's the best thing they have going.
Starting point is 00:24:50 I have no idea what else is going on on Turner. You feel me? Like, it's just ridiculous. It's a flat. Like you said, it's a lot of citry, bro. And nobody believed him, not even him. I don't know why he even let that shit come out of his mouth. But he did.
Starting point is 00:25:04 What was the last time you guys watched something? Can you literally remember a time you watched something on TNT other than basketball? I honestly don't remember. Man, it might have been. I think it was like pre-netflix. You know what I'm saying? This is like when people actually still had cable. You feel what I'm saying?
Starting point is 00:25:22 Like, like the big cable. Like before, like, I can get, like, YouTube TV into this shit to just have this, you know, pay $20 to get the shit I actually care about. You know what I mean? Like, it had to be. I have never, like, I don't think I've ever appointment watched anything on TNT. There's been times I'll, like, scroll to my guy and be like, oh, Black Panther's on TNT. Let me see what part they're on. Yeah, but that's like 2005, though, right?
Starting point is 00:25:42 Like, that's like, I'm, I think I'm in college and shit. It's difficult to imagine a world where it's successful to be like, hey, you want to watch a movie with commercials and no swearing? That's what I said. It had to be before Netflix. It had to be before we could just tap in and stream something. You know what I mean? All right.
Starting point is 00:26:01 Hearing Mickey Fickees instead of motherfucker. Monkey feces. I think they said when they play house party. Bro, I'm cool on that dog. We grow. You picket Kee Kee Kee Kee. Right. Bro, bro.
Starting point is 00:26:16 Dog. I'd almost rather hear, or rather Somme you hear the actual word. Oh, of course. Then, Miki. She's not even talking yet.
Starting point is 00:26:25 That's an easy to see. You're still in the halo. You can say whatever around her. You're still in the safety halo. I'm with you when it comes to, I'm with you when it comes to language, though. Yeah. You know how I'm.
Starting point is 00:26:37 Those are my baby steps with Shard, though, was like, well, they can't really speak yet. So, and then, you know what I mean? It was like, and then once they could speak, it was like, why? I mean, there are words, aren't they? They're just words, you know what I mean? Like, all right, this is a question that got posed in the group chat, and I'm excited for your guys' take on this.
Starting point is 00:27:00 Do you think Braun has seen the Braun lying meme? Of course. Of course. Brian is all line as hell. Of course he has. How do you think he feels? That's what I like, because I know he has to hate it. You know what I mean?
Starting point is 00:27:14 As a guy that's so, like, aware of how he, like the anti-KD, where he looks at everything in 46 different ways. You know what I'm saying? Before he speaks, he's got caught lines so many times. And not just in words, like, even with the book, like, carrying that book was a lie. You know what I mean? Your whole aesthetic was a lie. Just on the bike, on page, the same page you were three days ago, you know what I mean?
Starting point is 00:27:43 You haven't read a single word. I think there's a purity to his lying, though. I don't think he knows that he's a liar even. I think that when he brings the book out of the house, he's really looking forward to in his head where he would read that book. And when he's telling the stories, you can see the joy in him. I think he's putting himself in that world.
Starting point is 00:28:02 I don't think he's like, I'm going to make up this story about inventing the lust albums. The key to get rid of the key to lying is believing the lie? Yes. You think he's Costanza? Yes. Wow You think he's
Starting point is 00:28:15 That's how good That's how good he is Yes Yeah You think he's the Lebron of lying You think that Is that where we're at
Starting point is 00:28:22 With it? He's the Lebron of Line But thing about Bronn is He's not an unprovoked liar He's like keep the story going Lyer You know what I mean He's to keep the conversation
Starting point is 00:28:30 Going liar I enjoy liars like that I ain't going to lie to you I ain't like we have a conversation Bro give me a good ass lie That's cool You know what I'm saying We can keep the party going
Starting point is 00:28:39 I don't mind I don't give a fuck If you if you've really seen The Godfather And I knew that motherfucker was lying about that being his favorite trilogy because no one likes Godfather 3. That was the biggest fucking giveaway there. But yeah, I mean, I don't mind a liar who just lies to keep the party going, bro.
Starting point is 00:28:53 I actually enjoy him, as a matter of fact. I like liars that are telling a story. Add some juice in that. Don't give me no stale-ass story. If you're going to tell me a story, you need to lie to make it interesting, I'm perfectly fine for me with me. Actually, I prefer that. You know what I mean?
Starting point is 00:29:07 More than fine. I enjoy that shit. So, like, yeah, I mean, it's not like he's, you know, like he's nothing he's not nobody's being hurt by bronze lies so i don't it doesn't bother me but i know he doesn't know who detroit is i know if you ask who detroit was he would he would say malcolm x he would not he would never know that he was once called that because he didn't make it that far and that's like page six of the book you know what i'm saying i think i like to imagine him enjoying the lying meme i like to imagine he and savannah finding
Starting point is 00:29:41 Savannah's probably firing his ass up. I put Savannah on his head. And I know Bryce is eating him up because Bryce is funny. You know what I'm saying? He's a funny dude and a family. I know he on his ass. Like, you know you'd be lying, right?
Starting point is 00:29:57 At least that's what they say online. I mean, I know guys got to be getting his issue all. Which, yeah, I do enjoy lives to tell a story. I had a homie who told this one whopper that I still remember. Like, like, this is. was like 10 years ago, bro. Right? Okay, so for one, he was, he was a
Starting point is 00:30:15 homie I met when I was in, in college in Greensburg. He was, he was my homie's roommate. And this motherfucker could lie. And you knew he was lying? No, but it was fun. Oh, yeah. We all knew. But we enjoyed it. Yeah, yeah. Yeah, and I'm withhold names to protect the guilty, but. For sure. I remember, you know, I had moved, I moved
Starting point is 00:30:33 back from Greensboro. I was back in VA, and we hadn't talked in years, and, you know, he hit me up. And I was like, oh, shit, you know what I'm saying? And we had a conversation. I was like, what you've been up to, man? He was like, dude, I joined the military. I was like, what? He was like, yeah. He was like, I joined the military. I was stationed in South Korea. And I went to like this MMA event and this dude knocked the guy out in like 15 seconds and asked if there were any challenges in the crowd. And I went up and I beat his ass and then they tried to give me his belt. But I was like, I don't want that shit.
Starting point is 00:31:03 And I just walked out. And I was like, what? What is he doing now? What is he doing? Funny shit. Funny shit. I googled him. Is he a writer? I googled him.
Starting point is 00:31:17 I googled him because I've lost contact with him. That whimsical motherfucker. And that man is LeBron James. I googled him. And the last I saw from him was this motherfucker caught a charge for attacking his roommate with a hatchet. Oh, he didn't kill him. He didn't kill him. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:31:37 Yeah. But he is for sure a motherfucker who would just have a hatchet, you know, laying around that he'd pull under the bed. He lied with the hatchet, too. He pretended the lie got him out. It got him locked up, though. I was lying. You can't lie with a hatchet, though, Bubba. You know what I'm saying?
Starting point is 00:31:53 No. What I realized about liars, too, is they like a good lie, too. You know what I mean? I remember I told my buddy that I saw a crackhead jump off the top of Snooks and keep running. Snooks is a grocery store in St. Louis. And he was like, really?
Starting point is 00:32:09 I'm like, no, nigger. I'm lying. But I said it Because he wanted to believe it So I think liars are really just When they tell these stories They're creating the story they wish existed They're creating the world
Starting point is 00:32:25 They wish happened So they're trying to do They're trying to create a better world That exists So I think they're lying for a good reason At least in their head But you wish that crackhead jumped off of schnooks He wanted that happens
Starting point is 00:32:37 He wanted that to be real so bad We have the same issue though which is sometimes when you're lying, you're like really in the fucking zone and then someone hits you with the really or whatever, sometimes you have to tell him you are lying because you need them to understand how good you were at telling the lie.
Starting point is 00:32:53 You know what I mean? I told him to lie. I was not really trying to persuade him that it happened. I wanted to see how far as imagination would go. You know what I mean? Because the whoppers he told me, and I'm keeping his names. Do the same thing that Tyler is.
Starting point is 00:33:09 All of my friends. All of my friends' stories about liars are about me. So I can't keep my name solid. All my homies will tell you, if Mike tells you a number, divide the shit by a third. But that's probably what makes you a great writer. That's why you're the KD of your team.
Starting point is 00:33:35 Because you're imagination. You're trying to create a better world the one that's around us, you feel me? That's all. I'm having lunch with my friend right after we're done recording today and I already know he's going to ask me how the record went and I'm going to absolutely
Starting point is 00:33:52 make up something. Just look at all on the spot. I love it. Like, man, fucking KD was DMing us while we were recording. And shit was crazy. The shit was brazeny. Oh, shit.
Starting point is 00:34:08 I can't show you DMs because I deleted them. we didn't want him to get out with all this hacking and Twitter shit you know what I mean Hey I'm telling my friends that too Let's build a lot now Let's do it
Starting point is 00:34:24 Let's do it Let's do it Let's do it Let's do it Oh shit All right The How aware are you all of the fact
Starting point is 00:34:37 That the World Cup starts next week Is that on the radar at all? Next week Did not know had zero idea. I haven't seen a single World Cup thing advertised. Crazy. Wait a minute.
Starting point is 00:34:47 And I like the World Cup. I remember there being concerns about Qatar being fucking 300 degrees. It's still that fucking hot in, like, December out there? So that's why they're doing it over the holidays, because normally it's a summer event. I think, like, every other time has been held. But they're doing it in November and December because of the- They got like some underground shit going on, right? Like some underground-type field type shit or something?
Starting point is 00:35:09 To answer your question, it's still like 90- Underground pitch. Yeah, and it's still super, super hot, which is what made it crazy to me that I saw. I mean, it's basically if Firefest was the biggest sporting event in the fucking world. Because they didn't build up the infrastructure of all the places they're hosting events. They have these fan areas. It's like Coachella.
Starting point is 00:35:34 You could rent a room that's like near the stadium. But the room is like smaller than anything. any of the rooms that we're sitting in right now. It's like a real small hotel room. There's no air conditioning. It's just like a fan in the room. And it looks like it's in like a metal shed, bro. I'm like,
Starting point is 00:35:50 they are going to cook these fans alive. My fuckers going to get broiled out that motherfucker fucking. I did not know that. I thought that shit was this summer. I like all World Cups in my life. Nope. We got a Thanksgiving and Christmas World Cup because they had to fucking put the shit in guitar.
Starting point is 00:36:08 So, here we go, bro. well i'll be damn this doesn't fuck around with with 1 30 you said it's not 1 30 yeah and if they did it in the summer it could have been like crazy crazy yeah this doesn't fuck around like the other leagues and shit or did they plan around this already for years notice or whatever they like work something around it or i don't i don't follow international soccer enough but i do know it's supposed to be in the summer because that's that's when it's just always been forever and it was specifically because of the weather that they moved it I loved it in the summer because it was right at that time where it wasn't shit on. You know what I'm saying?
Starting point is 00:36:42 It wasn't shit but baseball on. And it's the, it's the every two years from the Olympics, which I also like, you know what I mean? So you get that like that space out or whatever. But yeah, one of my favorite sports memories ever,
Starting point is 00:36:54 we were in New York for the summer, staying with our friends. And being in New York for the World Cup is like any country that's playing, you could go to a fucking bar. Oh, that's fire. That's fire. God, I love New York. Oh.
Starting point is 00:37:07 Yeah. It was fucking great. All right. I was in New York in, one second. I was in New York in 99 when the Knicks were playing, they were getting, I think they, they lost in six or whatever. They won two, which was like a, how the fuck. That team was not all that good.
Starting point is 00:37:22 They had no business being there. And I remember there were people on, like, on the corner in Bodegas, like, they have, like, a TV with, like, the antennas plugged into the wall. You know what I'm saying? And they'd just be sitting on the corner, like, chairs surrounding, like, the TV. It was like a movie. movie scene. You know what I mean? And I'm like, where else on the planet are you going to see that? I mean, there's probably places, right? But like, it's just a special place, man. Like, that's
Starting point is 00:37:47 just like the whole neighborhood out there watching. You know what I'm saying? For sure. Yeah, there's nothing, nothing like it. And that is like, because it's in so many movies and TV shows, that's always the funniest part when you go to New York is you feel like you're in a movie the whole time because you've seen it. Right, because you've seen it. And a lot of times in movies, it's about like creating a lot of times it's ridiculous. You know what I'm saying? like the background is not necessarily believable, but like in New York, it's like they're just showing you what actually is.
Starting point is 00:38:14 You know what I mean? They're sharing their actual experience with you on the screen. It's crazy. That's really where the Ghostbusters live. All right. Shut up. This week, the planet Earth passed 8 billion human beings in total population. Not I do.
Starting point is 00:38:38 You don't think so? I don't know. He's saying like, wasn't the capacity, like, under $7 billion? Ah, there's a lot of unoccupied shit, bro. Like, I don't know. Yeah, but I mean, we're not in an occupied shit. We're struggling in the occupied areas, you know what I'm saying? So I think that's, you know, I think, yeah, I, I, I don't like this.
Starting point is 00:38:57 If we can convince people to live in North Dakota, there's at least room for 10 billion people. You know what I mean? At least. At least. A little bit, there's some room in Montana, too. They can spread out over there, you know what I'm saying? Long Beach and St. Louis.
Starting point is 00:39:08 You put together, you got fucking Montana, bro. Right. These are not the most popular cities. Yeah. How many people do you think, I look this up, so I have an answer. What is your guess for how many people total have lived in history? Oh, my God. A billion now.
Starting point is 00:39:28 8 billion currently. Okay. And I'd say on average, 50 years, on a global scale, 50 years, average life span. Oh, we're doing. math. God damn. I'm kind of Florida. That's some of complicated math, bro.
Starting point is 00:39:41 I ain't no way to math that shit. In your head. Okay, so, and we're counting homo sapiens, right? Yeah, yeah, yeah. 250,000 years ago, homo sapiens emerge. Yeah, and we're at $8 billion right now.
Starting point is 00:39:57 Okay, is he talking about? What you thought, Neanderthal, like that, is that? Neanderthals are not people. Okay, yeah, so you're not good. That's, okay, cool, cool. Um, I'd say
Starting point is 00:40:10 A billion is a lot of fucking people. And Earth was very scarcely populated for most of the time. I'd say probably, I'd say it's probably on the low end of the spectrum. I'd say probably 50 billion. John Walsh you guess.
Starting point is 00:40:27 I'm thinking like, I think, I think it's closer to like 2025. What do you mean? 20, 25 billion. Oh, 117 billion 100 17000
Starting point is 00:40:43 wow because you gotta remember you got thousands of years with homo savings too I guessed about my guess was 50 billion too but that's where I was curious it makes sense
Starting point is 00:40:53 if you think about it that would be way too high of a percentage of the people who've ever lived to currently be living that's what I thought that would be that that's what I thought
Starting point is 00:41:01 was the shocking part was that it was like a high percentage that were currently living because I mean it's grown so rapidly over like the last what 200 years Yeah.
Starting point is 00:41:10 Like I want, like, like, how many people have existed in the last 200 years? I don't know. We got to look that up. We've exhausted my research about it. We need more preparation. We need more preparation. More closeouts. More practices.
Starting point is 00:41:30 John wants to be held accountable. I want to be held accountable, man. All right. Elon Musk put out on Wednesday. a, uh, an email to the people who work at Twitter. Oh, fuck. And he said, you got to be hardcore, bro. You got to be extremely hardcore if you want to work at Twitter, bro.
Starting point is 00:41:52 A genius. This is a genius that said this. The Steve Nash of running Twitter. Just no tangible plans and outlines, just vibes, bro. The fuck. Try. He's going to burn this bitch down. I'm so scared.
Starting point is 00:42:08 Thank you. Twitter about to die, man. We're about to quote. Did you see the picture? We're about to put the little exes on the eyes on that bird, dog. Did you see the picture he took with the people that he had just fired? Bro, they're fake. They are fake.
Starting point is 00:42:23 Those are actors. Did you not see that report from birds? No. Yes, this motherfucker is full of shenanigans. Chalk full of shenanigans, I tell you. He might be the best liar's ever existed. Yeah. We're giving him all that he, DeBron.
Starting point is 00:42:36 He thought he was, he was, he was. He had us thinking he was a genius. You know, all of this shit is a facade, bro. You know what I mean? I was, and I was wondering how he could just stand next to some people and be cheesy. Like, these are, you know what I'm saying? That's like, because I was like, you just fired them.
Starting point is 00:42:55 You can, you can rehire me, but doesn't mean it's sweet. You know what I mean? Like, I'll come back and get this bread, but it's still, you know what I'm saying? I ain't still, I ain't fucking with you. You know what I mean? Like, that's, bro. He had the fucking. He had some people on this team there do a search of all Slack channels, all private Slack channels.
Starting point is 00:43:13 Anyone who was clowning him or criticizing him got the boot. Did you hear that shit? No, that makes sense. That makes sense. I definitely, yeah, I'm surprised it hasn't, like, affected more people on Twitter who are talking stuff, who are they who are cloning them. You know what I'm saying? I feel like he might, he could potentially get to the point where, you know, after he clears out the people that talk to him, talk shit about him in his company, he's going to rid Twitter of him. You know what I mean?
Starting point is 00:43:36 Like you said, I don't know. Put some, put some things on the account to prevent like, you said shadow banning and things like that. So talk about that. It sounded like the reason he was looking for reasons to fire people is because they get out of paying severance. If you fire someone with cause, they don't owe them any of the shit out the door that they get if they lay them off. He offered three months severance on this in this email. And listen, I've been in companies, I have been in a company that did voluntary layoffs. Company's not in good shape if you're doing voluntary layoffs.
Starting point is 00:44:06 three months severance though because it costs a lot of money that's exactly why it costs a lot of money to lay off that many people and so if you have to spend that much money to lay people off you really don't have any fucking money like you're in a fucking bad state
Starting point is 00:44:22 I mean dude we talked about the advertisers and stuff not tapping in no more and all all that like this has been a I'm holding steady on Twitter's not going away Tyler. Somebody has to step in.
Starting point is 00:44:38 Where are the Avengers when you need them? It makes me nervous that Tyler's so sure that is going away because Tyler is almost always right. But I'm also often right. We will see this is a battle of the ages. For the pulse of the world. Twitter.com. Ganglan versus DFJZ. I had a tweet a couple of
Starting point is 00:45:05 right when people first started getting real doomsday, I was like, I will bet everyone on Twitter $10 that Twitter still around. I saw that. I saw that. I guess this would be the place that Tyler can come and collect because he won't be able to make fun of me on Twitter if it goes away. Can't go away, though. Can't have a go away. Someone tweeted us, it would be like burning the Library of Alexandria again.
Starting point is 00:45:28 I totally agree with that, but also they did burn the Library of Alexandria. So it did happen. There's that. Did you guys see, I tweeted about this yesterday, but so did Trill and a bunch of other people. Did you guys see this Jesus video game simulator? I saw you tweet about it. They came out yesterday. What do you think, guys?
Starting point is 00:45:50 That sounds like the worst game I've ever heard about in my whole last life. The game is called I am. Kind of whack, though. You know what I mean? The game is called I am Jesus Christ and it builds itself as the. the world's first Jesus simulator. Jesus simulator. Dude, dude, like, as somebody grew up in the church,
Starting point is 00:46:12 like, I don't want to, that's not a video game I want to play. You know what I'm saying? Red Dead Red Dead Red Dead Redemption exists. Cod is about a drop. You know what I'm saying? I'd rather play Tiger Woods golf. Then turn water in the wine.
Starting point is 00:46:24 It doesn't seem, you know what I mean? But what if you're just actually playing Red Dead? What if it's just Grand Theftado Jesus? You know what I mean? Just so much responsibility. That's just like a job, bro. Like, no, that's, that's whack, man. Not interested.
Starting point is 00:46:41 Would you play? It would be cool. You got to tap in with that, Garty? No. I would, you thought about it, though, did you? I would play if it was the game that I was imagining when I first saw the headline, but what I'm sure it is is like a walk through, like, the Bible. The Bible.
Starting point is 00:46:58 Simulator. Yeah, see, you have it. Yeah, I've read the Bible twice, bro. It's not fun. I read it once and that was enough for me And I felt the same way Yeah, yeah So what made you read it?
Starting point is 00:47:08 Oh, you took religion classes, right? No, you know, Sharr was a religious studies major Oh, okay. So me being a college student Who was like super fucking in love I read the Bible, I read the Koran I read the Lotus Sutras I mean, it's all chill, bro
Starting point is 00:47:27 Like Like Shut up All right man around is chill. I had nothing chill about the You know, Godfather 3 was really the best. No, but like, that's the show.
Starting point is 00:47:46 I think that's where we ended. Right on that Whopper. No, but I did, I did read him in college. I would say, like, when you actually read from cover to cover the Bible or any other holy text, you, every time you put it down, you're like, we fought wars. over this. We based a whole civilization. They spent 30 pages describing grain lineages in his fucking book, bro. Bro, bro. I think that's what made me, that's like part of why I started like, because I went to college and college tells you to question everything. Like high school was
Starting point is 00:48:21 like, I'm not, I'm reading just like, you know, this is what I'm supposed to do, right? It was over years. So in college, when I go to college, it's to ask you to question everything, right? So I'm coming from that lens reading the Bible. And I'm like, hey man, anybody tell you this shit, Don't make no fucking sense. Like, you know, like, I'm asking questions. People tell me, don't question God, why? That's the thing. I need to explain this to me.
Starting point is 00:48:45 You feel what I'm saying? Like, bruh, I think, like, actually reading it, you know what I mean? It's why that, you know, I believe in a God, not necessarily a religion. You know what I'm saying? Yeah, yeah, for sure. All right. Last thing, John, I know you haven't seen Black Panthers still, but this doesn't really have any spoilers in it. I don't really care. I'm not I'm not I don't really trip off
Starting point is 00:49:06 spoilers, boy. I feel you, but this doesn't have any it doesn't have anything in anyway. This guy went this guy was the person of the internet early in the week, uh, and deservedly so. He tweeted, I just can't get into the whole Wakanda thing. If Wakanda really existed, it would be facing endless American sanctions and constant Western attempts to facilitate a coup to access vibranium freely. Instead, it's being attacked by some underwater civilization. Unrealistic. Tyler You know what movies are? Bro
Starting point is 00:49:39 You ever heard of a movie, bro? You ever heard of a movie? Did you ever? You ever heard of a movie? Do you ever? You ever been to a movie broke boy? Bro. For one,
Starting point is 00:49:49 for one, it's the dorkiest shit ever for you to say, oh, well, there's a movie with a fish man who can fly with wings on his ankles. Where the fuck is NATO? For one, that's the boringest shit you can possibly do. And two, the shit
Starting point is 00:50:03 that he's complaining about actually fucking happens in the movie. Within the first 10 fucking minutes, Angela Bassett's characters at the UN standing firm that she will not share with vibranium while the fucking Dora Malage brings in a fucking, you know, task force that was sent by France to
Starting point is 00:50:19 violently seize their vibranium. All the shit he's complaining about actually fucking happened. He was boring and wrong at the same time. Lie to us, God damn it. Also, he could seem smart on the internet. I'm saying like ridiculous painful stuff all right that's all the time we got for the show we
Starting point is 00:50:40 will be back on monday either live on amazon amp or in all of your regular podcast feeds we will see y'all then hope everyone has a great weekend bye bye bye
