This is an I-Heart podcast.
Guaranteed Human.
Another podcast from some SNL, late-night comedy guy, not quite.
Unhumor me with Robert Smygel and friends.
Me and hilarious guests from Bob Odenkirk to David Letterman
help make you funnier.
This week, my guest, SNL's Mikey Day and head writer, Streeter Seidel,
help an a cappella band with their between songs banter.
Where does your group perform?

Imagine an Olympics where doping is not only legal, but encouraged.
It's the enhanced games.
Some call it grotesque.
Others say it's unleashing human potential.
Either way, the podcast's Superhuman documented it all, embedded in the games and with the athletes
for a full year.
Within probably 10 days, I'd put on 10 pounds.
I was having trouble stopping the muscle growth.

Welcome to Jenkins and Jones on the Volume Podcast Network. It is Monday, February 7th, and as
Jenkins and Jones is hosted by my good friends
Dragonfly Jones, aka Tyler.
Hey, everybody. I'm a good.
The Jetro Jenkins, aka John.
What's out, Bubba's.
And it's not Sunday.
It's not Monday.
It's Sunday at 7 a.m.
And we're tired as a motherfucker.
I appreciate you.
I am.
I appreciate you giving that piece of context.
But I had to let people know that's how early
we're waking up to try and break Joe Rogan's record for.
You jumping in, Mike?
No, I'm the scorekeeper.
I'm the person the Guinness Book of World Records sends to make sure that the tally is correct.
I couldn't believe that, like, I could believe that he got in trouble for saying the N-word on his podcast.
I couldn't believe that there was a compilation of him saying it that was a super cut, as they call it.
A fucking super cut.
Zach Snyder's super cut.
I read last night, Spotify removed 110.
episodes of his podcast?
I heard 70 last time.
Did it jump?
It jumped.
Were their new inward discoveries?
Did the inward task team that has been working so diligently the last few days for Spotify
uncover some hidden inward to Jim?
50 more.
50 more?
Is it 10020?
Hey, bro.
And what's craziest in that video?
There was no context.
It was just nigger.
Nigger.
nigger nigger three minutes of that
that's insane
that's insane dog
100 million for that man
you know of course of course the brogans are like
well you know he's saying it out of context bro there's no context in which you
ever need to say that word you know what I'm saying
saying inward is just fine for those situations bro
you know what I'm saying and Joe Rogan made a you know apology video
where he rambled for like six minutes and he basically said the same thing
so you know I'm not at all like hats off to him for saying that
motherfucker you should have never said it to begin with you feel me in 2022 we still have to say
there's no context for a white person to say that shit if you are not a nigger just don't say it
we still got to say that shit like like people are still not only they're coming with that
defense as if like bro we already told you this nigga nigger it makes no sense yeah
I don't know. Tyler mentioned last night we were talking about in the group chat.
Like if we were talking about someone using a homophobic slur, we would say, we would, we just wouldn't say the word, right?
I mean, like, it's not that difficult.
You don't need to say like, oh, it's the context of this or we're talking about this.
It's just not that difficult to not say.
It's really just not that difficult.
I don't say any racial epithets in our mind.
I don't even say the saltine.
I don't say the other word that is can be used.
I don't use any racial epithets at our mind.
It's very easy.
You don't say Cracker?
Cracker's not barely even a racial epithet.
I just don't say it because I don't need to.
I have nigger.
Like, you know what I'm saying?
When you have nigger?
Like, you know what I'm good.
You feel me?
I'm not going back to the projects, G.
I'm all right.
Bro, I love that word.
That's my favorite word.
I don't need nothing else.
Y'all can have everything else, gee.
And that's more than enough.
It's so multi-purpose, right?
Like, it fits so much.
But, you know, the whole thing with, with, you know, white people not wanting black people to have that word.
It just stems to them just flat out thinking that, you know, not respecting the boundaries of black people.
Because you don't see this happen with other, with other, you know, slurs that have been repurposed and used as to terms of endearment.
You don't see white people asking for the right to use the F word with the gay community.
Like, you know, some of them use it endearingly.
You don't see white people asking, you know, why can't they call women, you know, the B word because women call themselves that endearingly.
But when it comes to nigger, they're like, no, all words are for everybody.
If you, we can't use it, nobody can use it.
And fuck that.
Motherfucks just play stupid when it comes to this shit in black people.
Right.
You can't tell white people, and especially like a Joe Rogan type of white person.
You can't tell them you're not allowed to do something.
It's the, it's the, not allowed.
You know what I mean?
It's like that sets off some fucking alarm bell in people's heads.
So anyway, really tough day to be a podcaster, I guess.
But fuck Joe Rogan.
And he's still going to get paid
Because of numbers still
Dumbed.
Like it's just wild
That people still listen to this man
To the level that they listen to him
You know what I mean?
But I guess that crowd wouldn't give a fuck
If he was saying, nigga
That's the crowd like you said
That of defending it.
You know what I mean?
So Joe Rogan has to be smirched
The pristine
Reputations of podcasters.
It's a tough day.
Hard to get up and go to the salt mines today.
You know?
How will we recover?
Let's try to
our niggins. Well, here we are.
We set the alarms, you know.
We're up early. We're coming. Probably 17 already.
We're coming for the crown. Jenkins and Jones is coming for the title belt.
On the real shit, John might hit 70 an episode, but John can hit 70 an episode.
That's the whole point of this shit.
We, we should do that.
Let's make a fucking super cut of a nigga this episode to counteract.
You know what I mean?
Shit.
Oh, Lord.
Reset the universe, niggas.
Jeez.
That's 18.
Beak.
Let's talk about Kevin Durant and Stephen A. Smith and Ms. Wanda got involved this morning,
which is when it turns serious.
Stephen A. Smith on some fairly typical Stephen A. Smith shit.
Saw the news that the Nets might be on the verge of imploding and said,
in a very podcastery type of way.
Stephen A. Smith, the original hot take sports podcaster in my brain,
even more so than Skip.
He said the godfather.
The godfather.
The hot father.
The podfather?
Did you?
Mike, did you say it?
The podfather?
He said, if the Nets do not win a championship,
Kevin Durant is on the verge for being recognized more so
for the guy that left Steph Curry to go with Kyrie Irving than he is for the
two chips.
and two finals MVP's.
KD responded with, and I love this, egregious.
Grieges.
And Steve and Ake tried to quote-tweeted and do some like, you know, it is egregious,
but that's what's going to happen.
I'm not saying I like it, but that's what's going to happen.
And then KD quote tweeted him today and said,
and this is actually the biggest insult he could have said, he said,
Steve, since you decided to use ESV.
He called him Steve to open the tweet.
That niggas a Steve, though.
He's a Steve.
I just realized that dog.
He said, Steve.
I don't know.
I feel like there's a big difference between a Steve and a Stephen.
You know, especially a Steve, bro.
Those are different Stevens.
They're not Steve.
Yeah, but.
You would not call Stephen King, Steve, bro.
No, I'm saying, but he's a fucking Steve.
You know what I mean?
I never thought of a Steve.
I've never met a black Steve.
I've never met a black Steve.
I know a couple black steps, a couple of black Steve.
I've never met a black.
Steve before.
Steve, since you decided to use ESPN to push your personal agendas, I'm sure your
minions will run with this story for you.
But if you believe this is what my career is defined by, then you're just a flat-out
hater.
It's going to be hard to box the God in.
And then his mom responded to Stephen A. Smith.
Ms. Wanda said, you're at it again with your limited thinking, negative narrative baiting
comments.
When will you show up better?
More importantly, when will you grow tired of this foolishness to which,
which Stephen A. Smith responded, yes, ma'am, I'm sorry, with three exclamation points.
And that's the exact way you respond to a black mama telling you to do better.
You don't push back on that. It's just, yes, ma'am, and you keep it moving.
So, you know, Stephen, you know, props him for that.
But, Stephen, he's bawling on this.
It's going to be jokes that he left, you know, the well-run warriors organization for this fucking dysfunctional
dubstaffir of the nets.
Of course, it's going to be jokes.
It's not going to be some career-defining shit.
When you think of, you know, KD, you're going to think of, you know, a seven-foot, one-of-one unicorn, greatest score we've ever seen perhaps.
That's what you're going to think about.
You're not going to be like, oh, he fucked his old legacy up when he went to the Nets.
No, I don't think anyone's going to think that.
Tyler, you said everything.
I mean, that's exactly what you think.
I think it's ridiculous that Stephen, I mean, what, what, Steve, Steve, Steve.
Is that who he is to us now?
Steve Anthony Smith. I think it's, I don't know why he would even say that.
We saw him come back from the injury and be in the MVP.
conversation.
An injury that we were wondering if he would be anywhere
closer.
If he was 80%, we'd be shocked.
Last year in the playoffs might have been the best basketball we've seen
from KD.
You know what I mean?
If they don't win in the guy shit to do with KD, my nigga.
KD.
be KD like a motherfucker.
You feel what I'm saying?
Like you said, the best score we've ever seen.
I mean, there might be some jokes while he's playing.
After he's playing, ain't nobody going to be talk about none of that shit.
Are there any athletes whose careers are defined by a free agency move?
That's what I was trying to think. I mean, Braun, obviously, his free agency has been such a big deal a couple of different times, but no one's going to, no one's going to think about the, no one's going to think about the, like, the decision is the most famous free agent moment of all time. That's not in your top five Bronn moments. Like, I just, I don't think there's anyone like, you got to be a real sports take nerd to even have a free agency move anywhere in the top of your list. Like, we think about people playing sports when we remember them because that's what we're watching.
Right.
I think because of the people that love Steph and they try to shit on KD,
there will be people to say that if Steve, the Steve shit my fucking head.
It's permeated my fucking skull, gee.
I want to call Steph and Steve, you know what I mean?
But anyway, if Steph wins a chip, there will be a lot of people saying that KD couldn't win without Steph.
Because we always say that Katie was the best player in that team.
I think there'll be people there'll be the Warriors fans saying that but that's about it.
I have friends.
Those are nerds.
I have friends who are warriors fans who are huge Steve Curry fans and when they talk about
KD, but they're not the Twitter ones, you know.
When they, but those are those real people, bro?
They're the loudest ones online.
But the loudest ones in the arena when they think about KD are going to remember
a championship parade with KD in it.
You know what I mean?
If Braun leaves the Lakers before I'm ready for him to leave the Lakers, I would
just be super grateful that in the middle of the horrible-ass pandemic, I got to celebrate a
Lakers championship with Ron with my kid. You know what I mean? Yeah, right. Yeah, I'm not, I'm not,
I'm not saying you're wrong. I'm just saying those that those will be the only,
those will be the people that have something to say, but also fuck them, you know what I mean?
Right. I would not say those people have shaped basketball narrative other than driving KD out
of Golden State, but that's a completely different conversation. So, uh, if you've watched
Katie play basketball, you know what I mean? I, I, I, I do think there is.
interesting discussion here, though, about how KD's rings have not made him bulletproof,
like rings have made a lot of players, right?
Like, Janice last year, he's bulletproof forever off that ring.
You know what I mean?
I don't think, you know, we've seen the ring move, rings move the needle on players so
many times.
Like the ring moved the needle for Steph in 2015, you know what I'm saying?
The needle moved for Wade in 2006.
It moved for...
Look at Dirk.
Dirk is completely different to do with that ring.
It moved for fucking, you know, Kobe going back to back without.
Shaq in 2009, 2010.
I don't think the needle really moved for KD with those two rings because it's like,
bro, what did you overcome?
You know what I mean?
You went to the greatest regular season team of all time.
You linked up with Steph to become perhaps the greatest duo we've ever seen and you guys
ran off two rings.
And, you know, we can never take the ranks from you.
But like I said, I don't know if that really moved the needle for KD.
I don't think KD showed us anything we didn't already know during those championship years.
I think that's interesting of the discussion I have there.
But, you know, the shit Stephen A and so on, he's whining with that.
2017, he was the best player in the fucking world.
And it was obvious at that.
In that moment in that finals, he was, I mean,
Brian still average a triple double, but KD was, every time we got the ball, it was buckets, right?
You know what I mean?
Like, I think other than what's been, went on in the last playoffs,
that might be the best we've seen them.
And nobody, nobody, like you said, it didn't move anybody.
And it shouldn't, it shouldn't.
You know what I mean?
The rings that the people you talked about, you know,
for a way to win that ring at that young,
take over that team, you know what I'm saying?
I think he beat Dirk that was like,
what they were first in the West that year.
You know what I mean?
Like, dog, that was incredible.
What Steph did against the, I mean,
the beat-up ass calves,
that was shocking.
It was still in a rival for Steph, you know what I'm saying?
Steph got that ring and it was like, yeah,
he's one of those guys for real now, you know what I mean?
For sure, for sure.
And the next year, he proved that.
He just put his foot down.
And you know what I'm saying?
In the finals, it didn't happen.
the way he wanted to, but then during the year, he was going crazy.
You feel me?
So, like, you know, Dirk was just like, that ring they got was crazy, beating the fucking
heat.
There's no way that the rings that KD got should put him in the same place to put those
other people.
You know what I mean?
As far as a player, he's a better player, but those rings don't mean nowhere near as much.
You know what I mean?
If there's an off-court aspect of KD that will outlast his playing career in my mind, it had
nothing to do with free agency.
It's the fact that he's such a fact.
fascinating person to me that he has made his decisions like someone who does not care about
the things you're talking about. But he is also then admitted by having these conversations
publicly with Steve Smith that he does care about it, that it does bother him when people
go on ESPN and say stupid shit about it, bothers him when some random guy on Twitter goes
online and says some stupid shit about him. So we've talked about this a number of times. I
totally, I like that. I think everyone is that way. And a lot of people are
I've gotten good at kind of pretending they're not that way.
But someone said about, was it, someone said about, about Jay-Z,
J-Z can't be on Twitter because he's the most sensitive human being in the world.
What does that man have to be sensitive about, right?
But that's just the way the human brain is wired.
It thinks someone's saying something bad about you online is a leopard in the fucking tall grass.
Like, that's the way it was designed to look for threats.
You know what I mean?
But, but yeah, I can't imagine, I just can't imagine,
looking back on Kevin Durant.
Thinking about it.
Oh, he could have stayed with the Warriors.
But like Tyler said, though, you probably won't talk about the two rings he won, though.
You'll talk about him as a basketball player.
You won't talk about him not staying with the Warriors, but you won't talk about the rings.
You know what I mean?
Bro, the 2018 Warriors went 16 and won that postseason, and we never hear about it.
No one brings up, you know, is this team better than the fucking, you know, the 01 Lakers?
Is this the best?
We don't have that discussion.
They exceeded even the super team conversation to where it was like, well, that's not fair.
Like, yeah.
They had the three best shooters maybe of all time, three of the best shooters of all time on one team.
And then another all star on top of that.
You know what I mean?

let's talk about first of all welcome uh jason tymph to the volume uh finally someone will talk about
the lakers with the final you know undercover los angeles lakers it's a crime how little the media
talks about especially at the volume you know what i mean we don't have any people following the lakers
closely no vested interest in anyone on that roster on this pod so if we keep it in a stack we've
talked about the lakers less this year than probably any year of our fucking podcast yeah yeah yeah for
Sure. But I do want to talk about the Lakers right now, which is last night on ABC,
Braun proved that he's still Braun. First game back from injury, casual, triple double,
crazy reverse dunk that didn't even count. He just wanted to show off because the Knicks were in town.
Looked incredible. AD coming back from injury we have not talked about has been a monster.
Everything we're hoping he would be. And then there's Russ.
And I don't know that I've ever physically reacted to a moment in a sporting event that wasn't an injury the way I reacted to hearing the Staples Center crowd beg that man not to shoot a three-pointer last night.
That shit hit me in my heart, bro.
I have a job that pays one 444 million as much as Russes where I have my job over other jobs because I love being.
in and giving back to my community.
And I'm trying to picture showing up to work and hearing 20,000 members of my community
scream, no, anyone but you.
Like, imagine you're on the sideline of a poly football game and you pull your camera
around.
I was like, no!
No!
Right?
Like, that would be like the equivalent of this.
I'm out of there, bro.
The land is real cheap in Indiana or wherever.
You'll never hear from me again.
That's so wild.
And the thing is, of course, you can't tell Russ shit.
Of course he let that motherfucker fly.
And I dake the crowd playing into, like, booing him, you know,
well, pleading with him, definitely played a part of that.
But I think that's where we're at with Russ right now, man.
I think everyone's kind of giving up on him.
I think even if you love Russ, you know what I'm saying, you're like, bro.
You and I were at the top of the list of people who are like,
they're figure this out.
Russ is the best.
Yes.
I think even if you love Russ, you know, like we do.
I think you're at the, he needs a reduced role until he figures.
figure shit out and he might not ever figure shit out.
It might be done for Russ. And it's so weird because I think we thought that the rust
decline was going to be him, you know, losing that fucking super athleticism he has. And that's
not the case. The motherfucker just can't play basketball anymore, bro. I do think some of it,
some of the lack of ability to finish at the rim is like starting to go. I mean, I think
some of that is, some of that's happening. But you're, you're absolutely right. I think the
thing is he needs the, he needs what AD just had. He needs the mid-season off season.
to take them, you know, and I think some of that's Bron.
John is shaking his head because he thinks it's an unfixable problem.
But AD looked terrible before he went out too in stretches.
And Bron gave him the take your time, get in the gym, get your body right again,
and come back, you know what I mean?
Like it's hard to hit the reset button in the middle of the season.
I think Braun wanted Russ in part so that he would have the ability to do that when he needed to.
And Russ has obviously not been the guy who could give that to him,
which is why the Lakers are probably going to be in.
a playing game.
But I think Russ needs that.
I mean, I think he needs that a couple weeks away, man.
Like go be with your family, get your body right, get your mind right, come back, have a
big first game back.
And, you know, the Lakers fans will put that shit behind him quickly if he turns it
around.
Russ's game was completely predicated on him being bigger and stronger and more athletic than
everybody his entire career.
He could move anything to do what the fuck he wanted to do.
he never had to learn how to really play basketball.
He could do whatever the fuck he wanted to.
Now he has to play basketball, and he doesn't know how.
He's fucking 50% in layups this year.
We ain't talking, he was 60% with dunks.
50% because he has no touch.
He's never had to fucking lay the ball up
when you're looking down into the fucking rim
every time you're in the air.
You know what I mean?
I mean, all the triple double shit,
I get all of that,
but he could literally move motherfuckers out the way.
You couldn't stay in front of him.
You know what I mean?
When he got to the rim, he was stronger than you.
You know, he rocking a baby on these little point guard and shit back then.
He can't do that shit anymore.
He doesn't have that anymore.
He lost his fucking superpower.
Now he's fucking me out there trying to play NBA basketball.
You know what I mean?
And he doesn't know how to play the game.
And it's blatantly obvious, bro.
And I hate to see that they booed his ass.
But what was wild to me was I said in the boot chat.
It would have been better.
It was the reaction like they saw Freddie Kruger.
It came from their gut.
They couldn't even control it.
Them niggas is stressed in the fucking stands, nigga.
No!
It was a panicky ass, no.
Like, nigga, please.
They were pleading with them.
They weren't being disrespectful.
They were asking Russ not to shoot, my nigga, please.
We've seen enough this year.
You know what I mean?
But that's what's going on with Russ.
He never had to learn how to play basketball because he was super athletic.
He was a superhuman.
And he lost his superpower.
And now he has to just play off the game.
It was like, like Mike, when the shoes stopped working.
You feel me?
Bron needs to send him to wherever Brongos.
You know what I mean?
We need the superpowers back, bro.
80 left, thought about it, came back and got his mind right.
Because it wasn't his body in particular.
No, I do think he was care.
You know what I mean?
You know, we talked about.
I do think he had bulked up to try and be like a more dominant center.
And I think that he took some of that off.
Just looking at him.
But I'm saying he still had it.
Russ doesn't have what Russ had.
to make him Russ.
You know what I mean?
Moving on.
Let's talk about.
We talked about that too.
After next year,
who's going to pick that man up?
This might be his last two years in the league.
Maybe.
Could very well be.
I hate to say it.
I love Russ.
I mean,
you know what I mean?
Look,
we all know that Presti is in full tank mode
and I think a welcoming back of Russ
that kind of aligns with everyone there.
So I think if OKC passes on him,
he's for sure done.
But I think Presti is in tank mode,
and Russell will definitely help you tank from what we've seen this season.
So he might go back.
Russell's getting paid $44 million this year.
What are they going to pay that man to be him now?
He got, you know, we didn't even talk about the fact he was not on the court in overtime.
And Frank Vogel, I'll say this.
I mean, very clearly has got whatever green light he needs to make whatever decision he
needs to make to win the game.
Bronze whole post-game, did you hear bronze post-game interview?
No.
was about being accountable to the great coaching that they're receiving.
You know that all players need to be accountable to that.
Brian up there not only, you know, taking a dig at his homework,
but he's lying too.
Great coaching?
No.
What?
No, he said, but he was talking about defensively.
He was talking about defensively.
He's like, we, he's like, everyone's got a, you know,
every player on the roster is accountable.
And Frank said, you know, they asked Frank about benching him.
He said, I hope the reaction will be that that player plays better.
You know?
It's like, God damn,
God damn,
Russ,
you're that player.
That player?
That's what he?
You're a Steve now,
Russ.
Jesus.
Let's talk about John Moran.
Steve Westbrook.
No,
not my dog,
man.
Fuck.
Sick, bro.
Damn, nigga.
Yeah,
you got a name on the back of his jersey
and motherfucking 2K,
nigga.
Damn.
Golly.
Let's talk about John Moran.
His ascendancy this year.
One of the most fun things happening in the NBA, 33, 7, and 5 last night.
But more than that, I want Jha to get an endorsement deal with some kind of a personalized motivational speech company that, you know, he just, he could be doing some, we crawl up the chimney type speech.
Like for your alarm, bro.
This man is on another level, and his quotables are off the fucking charts.
Bro.
Everyone loves that, you know, we don't run from smoke.
We run up the chimney quote.
great, but the shit he said right after that.
You know, if the baby sees
crying what they're going to do. That's the
motherfucking gym right there, dog.
I typed it on my stickies, on my motivational
stickies. If you're crying, what the baby's going to do?
That's real as fuck, no, man.
I love that shit, bro. That's a
country ass saying. That's a country digger, bro.
I love, I think, bro,
I don't miss
fucking Memphis games. I think this is
one of the funnest teams we've seen
in a long time and we'll see.
You know what I mean?
I think people should tap it.
I think this is fucking special.
And what's wild about when he said that,
climbing up the chimney,
that wasn't just a quotable.
That nigger's standing on that motherfucking shit.
He meant every fucking syllable of that shit.
You know what I mean?
Like, he really moves that way, G.
You feel me?
Like, dog, he dunked on somebody yesterday,
posted it on his IG and put a fucking casket on that motherfucker,
bitch.
Disrespectful.
That's an NBA player.
He clowning like that, digger.
You just a body to him.
You know, get out the way, bubble.
You know what I'm saying?
It's wild, gee, but I love that man, dog.
Like, I think they're one of the funnest teams we've seen a long time,
and we need to fucking tap in every game you can right now.
Let's talk about trade rumors.
Deadlines coming up this week.
All kinds of stuff flying around about what the nets are going to do,
you know, potentially moving James Hardin.
We just had a move between the Clippers and the Trailblazers
that I think everyone has done.
Dame, everyone's kind of looking at Dame like, you're not going to run from this grind,
from this level of grind?
Has the grind changed?
This is a different grind.
This grind is a different grind than yesterday's grind, bro.
Are you ready to run yet?
Yesterday's grind is not today's grind.
It's not today.
Dog, man.
What are you guys hoping to see this week?
And just on a personal, emotional level, how do you feel for Dame?
I mean, I've just, I, it's, this is why loyalty in a professional world is a, an overrated, it's
overrated, man.
I mean, I know you, you have the path you want for your career.
But look, the three of us have talked about this.
I have the personality of a 19, you know, of a baby boomer worker.
I wanted to go work at a place for 35 years, put my time in, retire, like, that's personality
wise, but that's not what the world is today.
Like, you know what I got laid off three years into that shit, bro.
We're millennials.
We don't get to just.
choose that shit. And similarly, you might want to be, you know, a 1960s basketball player that
gets to just go and be the guy. But that's not how the world works, man. I just don't know that
it's realistic to even shoot for that at this point. I'm not sure. I mean, Dames got to be a bit
disillusioned. He's got to, there's got to be a part of him that knows you're not getting a ring
in Portland. But, you know, we saw the, if you remember the freestyle, he dropped last summer.
And this kind of goes back to the whole needle moving conversation that we had a few minutes ago,
where he said, you know, I'm trying to get to that, to that Dirk and Yannis, you know,
level or whatever, you know what I'm saying?
Because we talked about how Dirk and Janus move the needles by staying put where they were,
you know, getting that ring and how those rings, you know, hold a lot of weight.
And he said that shit in a freestyle.
But, bro, it ain't happening in Portland.
And, you know, Dane, if he hasn't made up his mind yet, he's going to have to reach a decision.
Am I going to stay put here?
Am I going to be a Portland life or where am I going to go somewhere where I can, you know,
have a legit shot at getting a ring because Portland's not going to be the place that's
going to give him that legit shot.
He said he's not staying because of the team.
It's because of the people around him.
He's kind of like, you know, I'm in the same way Brian is when, or other big players,
when you go places, you make a lot of money for the community surrounding you.
You know what I mean?
So I respect that.
I think that kind of box them in, though.
You can't say something like that and be like, all right, man, I was playing.
You know what I mean?
I'm shaking.
You know what I mean?
but I don't, I don't, it's, I don't feel bad for him because he chooses this.
You know what I mean?
Somebody said, how y'all lose a norm pile trade twice?
You know what I mean?
Nick, Nick who said that shit.
How y'all lose a norm pal twice?
You know what I mean?
Like, it's just a, this horrible decision making, you know what I mean?
But, hey, it's not, I don't feel bad because this is what he wanted.
You know what I mean?
But yeah, the grind is like, you sure, dizzle?
It's like, you really don't want to run yet.
Grine tapping on that man's show like, bro.
I'll be trying to help you out.
Like, you know what I'm saying?
Yeah, I don't, I don't get it, bro.
But it's not also one thing you talked about like he wanted that dirt and Janus.
You aren't Turk or Janus.
Here for you, Bubble.
You need some real ones with you.
You know what I mean?
So, hey, you know what I?
Let's talk about Tyler is a big UNC fan.
Coach Kay coaching his last game.
Chaplain Hill last night.
Are you one of those like,
it was fun to hate him?
Or are you like,
yeah, get the fuck out of here forever.
Like,
where are you at emotionally,
Tyler?
It,
it wasn't fun to hate him
because Coach K isn't a fun,
hateable villain.
You know what I mean?
He's a very cut and dry,
you know,
he's his fucking,
he's dry as fuck.
He's never giving us a real great quotable.
You know what I'm saying?
He's not,
I'm not going to be,
oh,
I'm going to miss hating him.
No,
you can,
dip, bro. You know what I'm saying? It wasn't really fun
hating you. It was just something to do. You know what I'm saying?
I respect it. Yeah.
I've watched Duke basketball
for probably 30 years.
I think 92 was actually
when I first started watching that shit.
Are you going to shed a tear at the end of the season, bro?
Fuck out of it. No, nigga.
I watched like four games in the last two years.
You know what I mean? If I'm keeping it in a stack, you know what I mean?
They got fucking...
Paulo was fucking insane, you know what I mean?
You stopped watching college.
basketball because of one and done's.
No, no.
That's the energy I'm on.
No.
I mean, to me, it was more like, I mean, I got tired of seeing him fuck off great talent.
When he didn't win one with Zion, I'm like, nigg.
All right, bro, you can, I mean, you can really, you can, hey, let, let, let, let, let, let, let,
let, let, let, let, let, let, let, let's, he hasn't learned how to, he hasn't
figured it out.
Like, when you look at Tatum, what, what, what player was Tatum when he was playing with
Tatum and Angram on the same squad, RJ and Zion on the same squad?
You feel I mean.
Nothing to show for it.
And with Tatum and Ingrid, he ain't do shit with that team, dog.
You feel me?
Like, he couldn't, you know, like, Tatum looked regular.
Like, you know, I mean, we were shocked at tape.
I saw Tatum in high school.
I'm like, what the fuck?
Like, his worst years in basketball were while he was with Coach Kane.
You feel what I'm saying?
You know, other than, like, the ACC tournament.
But, yeah, gee, I mean, I don't know if he's really figured out today's game.
I mean, he's one of the best coaches of all time.
But you have this type of talent that you ain't winning.
Like, that Zion shit was.
Blagin. Zion and RJ, there's no fucking way in a planet.
Dude, you could have won't. Tyler, for sure, with your basketball mind, you probably could
have figured something out to coach them team that, them niggins to a fucking chip.
You feel what I'm saying? Like, so, I mean, it was fun, but, you know.
Better even dirty. So, so is Shire the guy? Have they made that official? Is he, he's,
you said what? Is John Shari, um, next up? Shire is a guy. Shire's a guy. Yeah, Shire's a guy.
And the, the, the, the young dudes love Shire. You know what I'm saying? I don't know what
exes and those, but I mean, like, I've seen, like, I don't know.
And this, I'll say, this is the last point.
Coach Kay, like, he's had some, some big fuck up moments.
Like, when they were up 10 against Yukon with like a minute and a half,
when they had, I think it was Occo Four and Gordor on the team in the final four.
And they, he does this fucking weave.
Dude, they had, I think it was JJ.
All they had was JJ Reddick and fucking, um, and, uh, Duhon.
And they were basically gifted the fucking game.
And he stopped them from playing.
that we're playing, slow the game down with two minutes left,
and O'Cofour and them came back and took over the game
and won the chip against a team that Duke would have definitely beat the next thing.
So he's had some big moments where he's done some silly-ass shit
where he's losing games, changing the energy of the game on some scary shit.
You feel me?
So thank you.
Don't let the door hit you.
Right, right.
But it's time.
It's time.
Like all podcasts, everyone you're listening to today is well past their physical
prime.
So I was very happy to see it is nice as we're moving as we're getting older.
That hurt, John.
Tyler and I have long accepted it.
No, no, it is.
It's just obvious.
It's so obvious now.
Like my quad and my knee are trash right now.
My quad knee and backward trash last week.
Right.
You feel me?
So I might be feeling it more than y'all actually when you say that because I'm going
because you're trying.
Because you're trying is why.
That's why you're feeling it.
I'm just working out, normal workouts.
And it, you know.
It is nice.
as we're going through it to see that professional athletes are like pushing hopefully for everyone
because maybe it's nutrition and science. I have no idea. Pushing the bounds of what makes sense.
Kelly Slater at 50 years old just won one of the biggest surfing championships in the world
and is now thinking about retirement. He and Braun and Tom Brady apparently have a were
washed but still great group chat that they've been in since.
Tom Brady retired and Braun even said, I think he said a piece of me left when Tom Brady retired.
So these dudes are defying physical expectations.
But I'm just trying to picture 50 years old winning a big win like a pipeline surfing championship.
This shit does not make any fucking sense, bro.
That's wild.
And like surfing is, you know, people think of it as a leisurely activity.
But bro, do you know these fucking core strength?
You know what I'm saying?
And you have to have to fucking be a Olympic level surfer and all that shit.
Like that, it takes a whole fucking lot, bro.
It takes a lot of core strength to stand up on a surfboard.
Right.
Yeah.
He's winning a championship at 50.
That is crazy, bro.
That's just crazy.
I'm not going to pretend to know anything about this nigga.
I think I watched the dock on him like six years ago.
I have no.
Kelly Slater is of surfing.
I would say, like, what Braun is of basketball.
It's like if you don't follow basketball at all,
just like if you've heard of a basketball player
even if you don't like sports
you're aware that space jam came out
you know what I mean
he's he's that dude
he's the face of their sport but to do anything
at 50 competition wise to me
that that shit's just crazy
all right this is a personal topic for me
but I just want to discuss this
the three of us are great friends
but like the one great friend activity
we've not done together is we haven't stolen
anything together and so
that is a bonding
moment. Did you see the new story about the gold cube? John has no idea what the fuck I'm talking about
right now. Did you see the new story about the gold cube in the middle of Central Park last week?
I saw you tweeting about it. It's worth $2 million. It's sitting there. It apparently has a security detail.
But I feel like they're probably somewhat amateurish, you know. I think it's a security detail we could do something with.
It's real pure gold. It's worth $2 million. And if you look at the.
Cube is actually not very big.
It was photographed to look like it was big as fuck, but it's not even knee high.
And all I'm saying is, I think we should steal the golden cube, bro.
This is like good podcast money.
Get Nicholas Cage on line one.
You know what I'm saying?
We need to bring him in the fold for this.
We can go.
I bet you that motherfucker weighs like 3,000 pounds.
That's what I'm wondering.
It's hollow.
It's not even that heavy.
It's hollow.
It's hollow?
Yes.
Oh, I thought it was.
We need to steal that motherfucker.
That's crazy.
Crazy that gold is that valuable
that a fucking hollow ass shoebox is fucking
$2 million, bro.
How much would it be if it was solid?
You know what I mean?
Yeah.
All I'm saying is, here's my plan.
Number one, melt it down.
And number two, put it in my pocket.
We're going to melt it down on the spot.
Is that the plan?
There's portable smelting kits.
We just melt it down.
You got to get it into one of the little kiln cups.
You just drop it in the, you know,
like a big park of pocket.
and you walk out of there with the gold cube.
This motherfucker trying to send us on a dummy mission, dog.
You're trying to send us on a crash mission, dog.
We're melting down.
I'll do the smelting.
I'll do the smelting.
And I'll wear the park.
Well, I'll drive the getaway car, Nicky.
We'll go see what y'all are.
And be like, two seconds into smelting it.
When 48 niggas come out to fucking woods, all right?
Riber Derry, my boys.
It was fun doing the pot.
There's no Jenkins and Jenkins here, though.
Jenkins and Jenkins.
Fuck out of here.
It'll be over for it.
It'd be great publicity.
You know what I mean?
No.
Jenkins and Jones heist of the gold cube.
Garty B and Dragonfly Jones arrested.
Legathra Sinkin, Jekin's still on the loose.
The Jethro Jekins known as John Nichols.
Heard was caught trying to cross the border.
All right. Let's talk about, I have not seen the new Cosby Dock I've heard is very good,
but I've also heard that Tyler's tweets make an appearance in the doc, which makes me think
it might be the kind of a dock on a horrible person I might want to watch.
Do you know what they put in there yet, Tyler?
I have no idea.
I was going to like, you know, take a look at it.
But so it was like four parts.
And I was like, I am not fucking watching four hours just to see one of my tweets.
Like I'll see it in a screen grab or something.
Hopefully one of my devoted Twitter friends can, you know, tell me what they said
because I'm not sitting through four hours of that Mick Rib-looking motherfucker like.
And I just wonder what tweet they put out there because I have been lighting Bill Cosby ass up.
I do not like that motherfucker dog.
I don't think there's anything that's like PG or, you know, G-Rady that I have said about that dude, bro.
You screenshot your Hall of Fame ship.
If they put that in the documentary, I might.
I don't have four hours to spend on someone I think is a 10.
terrible person, but I might have to just to see on an HBO screen that tweet, bro.
What is what is it?
Where's the docket?
Showtime.
Oh, showtime.
So you're on a showtime doc and you're like, I don't need to see it.
I saw it when I tweeted it.
Like that's that's personality.
And it's mind blowing.
If you ain't dropping that bag off, I don't give a fuck, you know what I'm saying?
Like that's all I care about.
If I had got paid off that out of it.
Yes, please send me the cut, but you know.
Tweets are public domain or whatever the fuck,
and they didn't cut me in it.
I don't give a fuck.
I saw the tweet when I tweeted it, I guess.
This is so, bro, you are a different.
Okay, Tyler, I want to give you a chance.
I think if there's anything remotely resembling a public service that we do on this podcast,
it's when you are able to use your professional experience to help give advice to the people who listen to this show.
And a couple weeks ago, we haven't had a chance to talk about.
about it because we're running at time.
A woman destroyed her career.
She did the whole lighting herself on fire on Twitter thing.
She lost everything.
We're basically talking about as a recruiter that she sort of gleefully would underpay people
or whatever.
You have experience on negotiation, on being a recruiter and all this.
And I just wanted to give you a chance to, number one, let us know how you feel about her.
And then number two, pass on some advice to the Jenkins and Jones community.
for sure so yes being the recruiter that I am well um you know to give the listeners some background
there was this recruiter who tweeted out um you know I was talking to a candidate for like in a
hundred thirty thousand dollar position they only you know wanted 85 thousand it's not my job
to teach you how to negotiate salaries and you know what I'm saying and that was some dickhead shit
and I'm gonna tell you some real shit as a recruiter I don't like a lot of recruiters you know what I'm
saying and this is like a prime example of why I don't like a lot of recruiters because for one
a lot of recruiters are on like some power trip bullshit
where they realize all the power that they have over these people
who want you know jobs and and they flex on it and their dick has like
this isn't the first recruiter to go viral on some bullshit like this like we see recruiters
all the time getting assed up like if you're not sending a cover letter
I delete you your application before you're even looking at like get the fuck out of
that 1958 madman shit bro it's 2002 and you know and you know that
recruiters are terrible present company excluded because they're so
insulated in a bubble of people who think and say stupid shit like that that they
don't realize they're going to get destroyed on Twitter for saying it. They think that that's like,
oh, these are the jokes we make about how stupid society is. Exactly. Bro, I firmly believe there is no such
thing as an okay recruiter. You are either great at it or you're terrible at it. You know what I'm saying?
Because think about all the all the interactions you had with recruiters, right? Like you've either had a
recruiter, you know, hit you up, hey, you know, I want to get you an interview for this job. They
get you the interview. You don't hear from them ever again until that two month later mass email when
they closed out the position and they tell you that you didn't make the cut or whatever, right?
Like, no one has ever had a five out of ten experience with a recruiter.
It's either one out of ten or a ten out of ten.
You know what I'm saying?
So, you know, that's a like one out of ten experience.
And then you'll have a fucking amazing recruiter, reaches out to you, gets you the interview,
you know, preps you for the interview, follows up with you after the interview.
You know, let's you know if you got the job or not.
If you didn't get the job or not, if you didn't get the job, I hate that this happened,
I'm going to circle back to you when something else opens up.
They reach back to you.
Two months later, get you another interview, maybe get you the job, right?
Like, that's a 10 out of ten recruiter.
And you're either one of the other.
Like I said, there's no such thing as an okay recruiter.
But the reason I don't like this recruiter in particular is because, for one, like I said, the power trip shit that she's on that a lot of recruiters are on.
And two, the company man shit that she's on that a lot of recruiters are on, right?
A lot of recruiters want to save their company money instead of getting their candidates paid.
And I am not one of those recruits.
I want these motherfuckers to cash out.
You feel me?
Because, the dog, like, how can you feel good about yourself knowing you're fucking someone out of like 40, $40,000 a year?
right like you just get a fucking pat on the back from your from your manager like hey great job meanwhile this is a real life person who's gonna be working at this job for like five or six years leaving fucking 30,000 a year on the table leaving like 150 180,000 on the table during their time.
there, a fucking half a mortgage, a kids college fund, and you're cool with doing that to someone
just to get a fucking pat on the back from your manager?
Like, that's some boot licking shit, bro.
And I don't, like I said, I don't fuck with a lot of recruiters for reasons like that, dog.
Because, like I said, I try to get my candidates paid.
This is not my money.
I want motherfuckers to cash out.
You feel me?
I have, like she said, it's not my duty to, you know, teach people how to negotiate.
It might not be, but it's my take that on as, you know, as a duty of mine.
because when I see candidates underselling themselves,
I tell them flat out.
You know what I'm saying?
Like, I'm going to give you all, you know,
for one, with salary negotiations.
I come flat out and I tell candidates,
you know, this is a blah, blah, blah, blah position.
This is the salary.
Is that acceptable for you?
And we take things from there.
There are times, however, like, when I'll see, like,
applicants who, you know, email us and, you know,
they're, you know, a great applicant,
and I will email them like a questionnaire,
screen or whatever, you know what I'm saying?
Just some HR shit that we have to do where, you know,
we get there, you know, are you a citizen,
when you need sponsorship or whatever, you know, when would you be able to start if, you know,
you accept in a position with us.
And, you know, what's your desired salary is a question on there, right?
And there will be candidates who undersell themselves on that salary question.
Is it more common for people to undersell or oversell themselves?
Undersell, for sure.
Undersell is way more frequent.
And I do not let candidates undersell themselves.
Like, if I'm reaching out to a candidate about a 125,000 position that they applied for and
I shoot in that questionnaire and I see them come back like 90,000, you know, when we have
that conversation when I talked to them before, you know, setting up an interview with them,
I tell them, this is in $125,000 position.
You put $90,000 as your desired salary.
You're not a $90,000 talent.
You know what I'm saying?
You have a $125,000 plus resume.
You have $125,000 plus experience.
Run on that.
Do not undersell yourself short in this interview process or anyone else you interview with.
And I will tell, Ken, is it okay if I, you know, put $125,000 on your desired salary on this screen,
You know what I'm saying?
Because we have to put that in the system and shit, you know, when we attach it to a person's file.
So I don't want a manager interviewing someone and they're like, oh, this person is great.
And then they go look at the screen and say, oh, and we can get it for 90,000?
Awesome.
No, the fuck you can't.
You don't get this person for $125,000, just like the position says it is.
You know what I'm saying?
So, but my advice is to people who are out here and if you're negotiating with someone,
I would say do not put your number out there without asking about the salary range first.
You know what I'm saying?
Because you can do that?
They say, what do you want to make?
You can say, what's the salary range?
Absolutely.
Absolutely.
And you should do.
That should be your answer every time.
And the recruiter's going to do one of two things.
They're either going to tell you the salary range, you know, for the position,
or are they going to tell you it's open and it's dependent on experience?
Now, if they tell you it's open or independent on experience, it's one of two things there too.
That could very well be true or it could be some bullshit.
They could be trying to, you know, hold out on that info in hopes that you undersell yourself.
So if they tell you that, you know, depending on it,
experience is open. What you do then is you tell them, okay, I'm going to have to do some market
research and get back to you. And that's not some bullshit that you're blowing up there. So you're
going to really do some market research. And I'm going to tell you the market research you're going to do here.
What you're going to do is you're going to go to the job description of the position that, you know,
you and the recruiter are talking about. You're going to copy a big chunk of that shit. You're going to put it in Google.
And when you put a chunk of that job description in Google, you're going to see the listings come up for that job description on the job boards that
it's advertised on. And the salary shit might pop up for those. You know what I'm saying? And that's when you know
that, okay, this recruiter is trying to hold out in hopes that I lowball myself.
But if, you know, it comes up where you see these listings on all these job boards and it does
say, you know, dependent on experience, then, okay, the recruiter's shooting straight with you
is dependent on experience.
So what you're going to do then is you're going to do some more market research.
You're going to, you know, like say you're interviewing for a software developer position,
five to seven years of experience, JavaScript, Python, etc.
You're going to plug in that and you're going to look at, you know, the job lessons
for that type of position of that skill set.
you're going to see, okay, well, the range here is $125,000, $150,000 for this type of skill set,
and you're going to come back to the recruiter with that.
Right?
So you're going to do some market research whenever a recruiter tells you that, you know,
it's dependent on experience and get back to them.
Don't ever say your, you know, your price right there on the spot without doing that.
So that's the advice that I would give to, you know, people who are interviewing for that position
and if you come across that position.
And recruit, if you come across that, you know, depending on experience stipulation.
And recruiters need to do fucking better because, like I said, these are real life people you're dealing with.
recruiting, I view recruiting as, you know, at its essence, you are helping people improve their lives.
You know what I'm saying? A new job is a leap in quality of life for most people.
And if you don't take that seriously, go and you just want to swindle motherfuckers and save the company money.
Get the fuck out of recruiting, bro. Go like sell some used cars or some shit. No shots to use car sales.
But this ain't for you. Like I said, this is people's real ass lies, bro. And you're just out here fucking people over to get a pat on the back from your fucking manager. You boot-looking motherfucker.
So yeah, that's all I have to say about it, man.
And like I said, you know what I'm saying?
You know where to find me.
If anyone out there listening has any types of questions about negotiating or whatever,
reach out to me.
I love seeing the motherfuckers get paid.
It's a different dude.
Boothin is so funny.
It's up there with moon cricket and snow roach.
I love that.
Great advice, though.
Yes.
But yeah, but like I said, do your research and for, you know what I'm saying?
Going back to the whole Googling job description of shit.
there's two types of recruiting basically
there's corporate recruiting there's agency recruiting
you know agency recruiting is you know when you come on board
with an agency you know you get contracted out to a company
and you know you get paid to the agency whatever right
and the way agencies make money off that is they make money off what's called a split
there's a pay rate and a bill rate the bill rate is what they build a company
for that you'll be contracted out to the pay rate is what they pay you right
and so you know say you come on board for a job and it's $40 an hour
that you're getting paid the company that you're you know
contracting for they are
billing the company you're working for like 60 an hour and they're making like 20 an hour off of you, right?
So that's how agencies get paid here. So if you are, you know, applying for a position that is with an
agency that you know you're going to get an interview for, you're going to get a callback for,
like I said, Google that job description first and do some shopping on the rates there for staffing agencies.
Because you might see one staffing agency that you were about to apply to might be like $40 an hour,
but you might see another one to advertise like $55 an hour. You know what I'm saying? And you could
have been leaving like $15 an hour on the table by not doing your research there. So that's another
thing I would for sure recommend there.
So just some free game to y'all, man.
I want to see y'all get paid.
You know what I'm saying?
I know that in my personal life, had I become friends with Tyler a decade earlier,
probably would have been, you know, some of the finances would have been on a different
trajectory, bro.
So I'm always happy to hear you pass that info on.
Because, like, for example, I mean, I've had the, you know, well, what do you think
you should make?
I don't fucking know.
You know what I mean?
Like, absolutely no expectation.
It would never occur to me to say, why don't you?
You tell me what you think of you.
That's what you need to ask them, bro.
Everyone, like I said, there's always arranged for a position,
even if it is legitimately dependent on experience.
Well, like I said, if it's dependent on experience, do your research first.
But what surprised me because, so I grew up in a house that was really, really bad with money.
Like my, you know, my, we've talked about on the pop,
my parents had addiction problems with other things.
But like, my college fund got rated like when I was in elementary school.
You know what I mean?
Before it really even existed.
So I always felt like, oh, I don't know anything about money.
or the professional world just because of the way that I grew up, you know, I didn't,
wasn't like taught this stuff or whatever.
But when you said, oh, by far people undersell themselves, it's like, oh, this is like a,
this is a problem of capitalism and like the way everyone feels like, oh, I should be grateful
for, you know, like this opportunity, like whatever, whatever, whatever.
And as you've said, it's like, but that's not a, you feel, it's, it's, it's, actually
it's kind of like sports.
You feel like that's a personal like relationship between you and whoever's
interviewing you, like.
But it's to them.
it's not. It's just straight up business. It's like I have X amount for this job. This person
told me this number. I'm saving X amount. Like it's just straight up numbers like that. You know what I mean?
So great advice for anyone listening. I know that would have helped me a lot out quite a bit
when I was younger. So I hope that helps everyone out too. Um, John. I wasn't worth shit back
of the day. So but once the nigga got some sense, you know what I mean? You've actually helped me
personally with a lot of these things. He's helped both of us, for sure.
Right, right.
I'm like, hey, guess what?
