Starting point is 00:00:00 The volume. This is an I-Heart podcast. Guaranteed Human. Another podcast from some SNL, late-night comedy guy, not quite. Unhumor me with Robert Smygel and friends. Me and hilarious guests from Bob Odenkirk to David Letterman help make you funnier. This week, my guest, SNL's Mikey Day and head writer Streeter Seidel. Help an a cappella band with their between songs banter.
Starting point is 00:00:27 Where does your group perform? We do some retirement homes. Those people are starving for banter. Listen to Humor Me with Robert Smigel and friends on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Imagine an Olympics where doping is not only legal but encouraged. It's the enhanced games. Some call it grotesque. Others say it's unleashing human potential.
Starting point is 00:00:49 Either way, the podcast's superhuman documented it all, embedded in the games and with the athletes for a full year. Within probably 10 days, I'd put on 10 pounds. I was having trouble stopping the muscle growth. Listen to Superhuman on the IHard Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. A win is a win. A win is a win. On the Look Back at it podcast. In 1979, that was a big moment for me. Eighty-four is big to me. I'm Sam J. And I'm Alex English. Each episode, we pick a here, unpack what went down, and try to make sense of how we survived it with our friends, fellow comedians, and favorite authors. Like Mark Lamont Hill on the 80s.
Starting point is 00:02:02 It was a wild year. I don't think there's a more important year for black people. Starting point is 00:03:16 There's a lot of COVID info out there, but not all of it's true. So it's important to remember the facts. Do COVID-19 vaccines give people the virus? Nope. It's actually the opposite. Vaccines teach ourselves how to fight COVID-19. And just like other vaccines, COVID-19 boosters help keep our immunity strong. Share the facts, not the virus. Gambling problem, call 1,800 next step. Welcome to Jenkins and Jones on the volume podcast network. It's Wednesday, March 23rd, and we are shooting set shots over here on the old ass fucking knees. No, knees, you have multiple? I don't even know if I have what constitutes a knee. You feel what I'm saying? I think if you put mine together, I have one knee.
Starting point is 00:05:13 I might have a quarter of a knee left, bro. We're no knees. As always, Jenkins and Jones hosted by my good friends. Dragonfly Jones, aka Tyler. Hey, everybody, I'm a good. With Jethro Jenkins, aka John. What's that, Bubba? I'm Gartie B, aka Mike.
Starting point is 00:05:29 and I want to talk about Trey Young It's just delicious It's delicious I want to lick it off my fingers The barbecue sauce is delicious How do you decide to beat with the biggest city In the country
Starting point is 00:05:43 And succeed It's my favorite shit ever And I feel like I feel like Trey Young is Tyler If he was a basketball player That's how I feel about it He enjoys the beef More than he enjoys winning
Starting point is 00:05:56 It's very clear I enjoy Tray Young and the Knicks rivalry Because I think that whole Every game is every game You know I think that's bullshit There's certain games When that fucking schedule drops
Starting point is 00:06:10 That you're circling with a red marker Like yeah I'm gonna show the fuck out that night And Trey owns up to that shit You know what I mean And like you know everyone says You know the league is better When the Knicks matter
Starting point is 00:06:20 I'm not sure I necessarily buying it I think the league is better When the Knicks have a villain And I think they for sure Got a villain in Trey Young because, you know, it's the whole going to Madison Square Garden, the fucking, you know, the mecca, the best basketball arena in the world, and having a guy who comes there and is just set on ripping everyone's hearts out. That's what the NBA is at its best. Not what fucking Julius Randall is winning most improved player, bro.
Starting point is 00:06:43 Sorry, Julius, we don't care about you. What's crazy is, what's wild is like, it's just like, you almost crack the top five Julius is ever in NBA. Good job. What's wild is, it's like, Trey Young versus an entire fan base. and the fan base feels like it's getting jumped. Like, it feels, it feels like it's unfair in an odd way. Like, bro, leave him alone, Trey. He's, he's talking shit to the crowd.
Starting point is 00:07:09 After the crowd, he's like, it wasn't that loud. It wasn't a big deal. He's mocking them at every turn, and I love to see it. And like you said, bro, like, this isn't faking. He loves the beef more than winning. This is who Trey Young is. This is who he's been. There's this, like, supercut of Trey Young in high school.
Starting point is 00:07:26 He's doing the bow back then. You know what I'm saying? He's caught this type of shit His entire basketball career Probably since middle school You feel I'm saying So I love to see him doing in the league Dropping 45 in MSG
Starting point is 00:07:37 And then like, yo, it wasn't that big of a deal It wasn't that loud, you feel of me Good for Trey Did you see the video of Roy Wood Jr. Posted on Twitter? No, it was. He was sitting courtside for the game and he's sitting next to the dude
Starting point is 00:07:54 that after Trey Young hit a three and they go up he walked the dude the dude sitting next to roy would have been heckling trey young the whole game so he so he hits the he hits the shot and he walks over to the dude and he says hold this hell my guy talking shit to the crowd this is in game bro this isn't a dead ball not a not a tv timeout bro he had to chase the guy he was defending because he took some time away to talk to talk to homie and it had to chase on baseline you know what I'm saying like bro
Starting point is 00:08:29 hilarious dude he loves it tray loves it you're feeding the beast they you know they think they're doing what they're supposed to do don't do that to tray he wants this he needs a reason to give a fuck you know what i'm saying i don't i don't understand why someone uh if if i was to be a court side NBA fan if i had money like that to vote i don't think i would go to watch teams that i'm invested in right i would be the roy wood in this situation i'm not paying fucking 20 000 for fucking Trey Young to rip my heart out and talk shit to me about my squad, bro. That would not be me in that situation. Hell no.
Starting point is 00:09:05 That's actually a great point. If you had courtside money, I would be at a Nets-Bucks game way before I be at a Laker game. Just straight in that boy nice mode all fucking game. That's it, bro. Hoping on TVN Airlines to the East Coast. Straight soccer mom with it. I just hope both teams have fun tonight. You know what I'm like that.
Starting point is 00:09:27 I'm not spending thousands of dollars to get pissed off, man. Hell, no. I never thought about that. Imagine you grew up in Southern California. You waited your whole life. You go to a courtside Lakers game. LeBron is playing and the fucking sons beat you by 90 points. Like, that was it.
Starting point is 00:09:44 That was my one game. LeBron probably gave you 40 in that game, though. So you got something out of it. You know what I mean? That may have been going brazy. Yeah, let's talk about, uh, let's talk about friendship in a professional setting. Let's talk about LeBron turning the corner, looking at the basket, and seeing one of his oldest friends in the league, Kevin Love, standing there.
Starting point is 00:10:08 Just absolutely. You couldn't Euro step for the homie and do the little reverse. No. He saw food and he's a motherfucking predator, okay? That man tried to take a charge like he ain't played with Bron on them damn years. He knew what was going to happen. It looked like at one point he realized, oh, yeah, this is Bronn. Too late, Bubba.
Starting point is 00:10:28 He already looking in the real. And you're looking at nuts. Enjoy being a meme. Yeah. Kevin Love should have known what was coming, man. I mean, defensive stalwart. Kevin Love, who locked up a game seven, should have known better.
Starting point is 00:10:46 His fucking instinct should have been more on point for that. But can't win them all, I guess. I actually think his instincts were sharp because I think they both turned and saw each other. at the same moment. And I think in that moment, Kevin Love did the respectable thing because he was like,
Starting point is 00:11:04 well, he got caught in no man's land. He's too far out, manned up to like turn around and run away. You know what I mean? But he's like, I'm for sure not jumping. And I'm for sure not trying to like get crossed up and be falling on my ass or some shit. Let me just softly stand here
Starting point is 00:11:23 and then propel myself as far out of the way. Yeah, I don't even think. I don't even think he was trying to draw the charge. I just think he was trying to get the hell out of the way. Like, Brian was so up there, you know, you know what I'm saying? He was eye level with the dick, and he was like, oh, hell, man. Let me get him out of here. And he just rolled over.
Starting point is 00:11:39 He did not want the cock eye jamming, you know what I'm saying. I think that's what that was about. That's a penis. I'm not trying to get my eye poked out out here, bro. Bro, I think, I think as a dude who's played basketball, people who are much more athletic than me, dog, it's never too, you're never too far out to run away. Well, there's always a chance to run.
Starting point is 00:11:59 Okay. I've been in there with some trees accidentally and had to get the hell out the way. He could have got out the way. You know what I mean? He got, I mean, he got roasted plenty for getting dumped on anyway. But if you're in the NBA, like he would have had to have physically turned his back. What they're going to say is business decision. That's the worst one.
Starting point is 00:12:22 He made a business. And it wasn't, bro, come on. He got, he got family. watching dog you don't want i think he man i think the soft charge i think that's the business decision because he could have been it could have been a lot worse than it ended up being bro he's he's only taking a 48 hour break from being lebron's it's never worth it okay nobody i don't care who it is they coming down you don't take a charge in the NBA you sees the freaks of nature every day that exists that charge bro you just setting yourself up to be a poster on the on the wrong end you
Starting point is 00:12:57 feel me? Who's what, like, as, as athletic as all these players are, there's, there's like four people that are going to jump over this man. And Bron is definitely not one of those four people, okay? You know what I'm saying? I just love that it was like, uh, it was like some mafia shit when they asked LeBron after the game afterwards. He was like, I turned the corner and I looked up and I said, ah, I hate it had to be Kevin. It had to be you, Bubba. You broke my heart, Fredo. You broke my heart It's not my fault It's the universe
Starting point is 00:13:29 They set you up I'm just doing what I'm supposed to do Bubble You know what I mean I'm doing brine shit So I loved it What a crazy sport That you could end up
Starting point is 00:13:39 With your friend's dick Getting you in the fucking nose And then he's joking With him after the game Like my man ain't rubbed His phallus cross his face He's like I'm not talking to him for 48 hours
Starting point is 00:13:49 I wouldn't talk to him for four years If he did me like that What you mean Sheesh It's crazy Nightmare Nightmare fuel right there, gee Yeah, for real
Starting point is 00:14:02 Let's talk about Did you guys see the Zion clip That surfaced last night? Very interesting Very intriguing The Pelican saying You know, is shut down And then a video comes out of him
Starting point is 00:14:15 On what looked like a The NBA teams have like springy floors In their practice gym Did you notice that? Watch the video again Springs under the motherfucking floor wood. Yeah. The paint like...
Starting point is 00:14:30 They look like it warped. Yeah. That's because he's 480 pounds. And he's jumping. That's a lot of force coming off that ground. I don't, I mean, if he's... Bro, we saw this man put his finger imprints on a basketball. You know what I'm saying?
Starting point is 00:14:46 This is the fucking incredible Hulk, dude. You feel me? Maybe, yeah. I mean, you should shit, you might be right, but that's crazy if he's really, if the Wood is moving out of his way. Like, whoa. I'm Zion. No, I mean, that's a lot.
Starting point is 00:15:00 He wasn't, really 280. And that explosion, I think it might, you know, warp some things. I don't, bro, like, I'm sending you, I'm sending you the video right now. You can read him. But what did you think of that video, you know, coming out? I mean, he looks, you know, he looks, he looks healthy. Yeah, it's, it's, you know, like I've been saying, what, I don't know why we're writing off a fucking 21-year-old who's, you know,
Starting point is 00:15:24 coming back from an injury like it's the fucking end of the world, I think he's going to be just fine. And just because he looks good in this video, I completely understand the Pelican saying, hell no, you're not playing this season for what? You know what I'm saying? We're going to get you back. You know, we're going to have some more time for the rehab.
Starting point is 00:15:39 We're going to get you back at the top of the season next year. We're not going to throw you out there where everybody's fucking hungry now and everybody's playing hard and everybody's chasing playoff seeds. No, we're going to rest your ass get some more rehab in and get you in at the top of next season. So I'm totally fine with that. I don't think this. Keep that diet up.
Starting point is 00:15:52 Yeah, I don't think, you know, people are saying, well this must be some some riff between the pelicans his eye and pelicans saying he can't go he looks like he can go no it's the smart fucking thing to do to send him for the rest of the season you can't tell if a guy can go off one dump yeah you know what i mean like you know it's an amazing dump there's a lot more that goes into playing basketball lateral movement explosions and all that stuff you know and being he's been injury prone you know for a certain whatever reason yeah you know be safe but yeah the dunk look great but that's not basketball that's a dump you know i mean yeah look I just texted you both the video. Look at the... I love my phone, geez. Look at the pain. Okay. All right.
Starting point is 00:16:29 You don't have to check it after. I'm tripping. Tripping. Wow. Unreal. He had to... Come on, man. You got the...
Starting point is 00:16:36 You got the... You got the amino acid drink, though. Shut up, man. Amino. I was hoping tired of notice. I was hoping. I was hoping. I was hoping.
Starting point is 00:16:43 Shee. We know you're not drinking pink lemonade at fucking A-da. Oh, no. I'm not drinking pink lemonade, period. Too much sugar. Okay, let's talk about the The fish sandwich ad heard around the world I'm genuinely curious for your guys take on this bro
Starting point is 00:17:04 Push-a-Tee doing an Arby's ad Your thought Tyler, your thoughts Well, you know I'm a push-a-tee stand Aficionado, you're a professional You're a push-a-tee professional, Jiz It's that Virginia shit, man That's one of the ones for real for you You know I'm an Arby stand as well
Starting point is 00:17:22 But you know what I'm gonna tell you I'm not with the Arby's fist sandwich shit because it's like bro like I I fuck with Arby's because I think that people were down playing the roast beef and the french dip shit I think they do that shit great if I want a fish sandwich I am not going to fucking You know what I'm saying? Like there's a spot of Richmond called the Scripps shack. I'm not mispronouncing it, S-K-R-I-M-P, that has the best fucking fish sandwich in the city of my opinion. So that's why I'll go when I want a fish sandwich. But, you know, yeah, yeah.
Starting point is 00:17:52 But, you know, I appreciate, you know, the real rap bars in a fucking fish sandwich fast food beat because why the fuck not, man? Just get ridiculous with shit. You know, I'm all for being ridiculous. I love Pushing T, not as much as Tyler, obviously. But I love Arby's too There's no way I'm trying that
Starting point is 00:18:10 That shit didn't even look seasoned well And I'm gonna be honest I haven't eaten I haven't eaten fucking McDonald's in probably like 12 15 years or some shit But the fish fillet used to go crazy Okay That's not the one to go with you know what I mean Like that's not that you ain't gonna You ain't gonna tell me that your fish filet sandwich is better than that one
Starting point is 00:18:29 That's the best thing One of the best things McDonald's ever made If not the best thing so What's funny though is like I look y'all were talking talking about he made the I'm loving it Mickey D's joint I did some research in that he didn't actually write that part he did have a hook in there he got paid 500k for that and McDonald's spent $3.6 billion on marketing so when he wrote this jingle well he wrote Arby's we have the meats
Starting point is 00:18:56 he wrote that shit and he got he gets 40% of what they make off of that jingle or some shit And then he has this one as well. So Push-a-T got the fast-food jingle business in a headlock right now. Good for him, bro. Good business, man. That's why he don't make music a lot. You feel me? He's getting that other bread, you know what I'm saying?
Starting point is 00:19:18 He wrote, bum-bum-bum-bum-bomb-bomb. He has a track on that beat, on that Arby's beat. I did not realize. I did not know that he had written both jingles on And he did residuals because McDonald's hit him for the $500K and they spent $3.6 billion on marketing in that one year and they used that jingle for 10 years. And he was like, bro, that's the biggest L he ever took. That's crazy.
Starting point is 00:19:46 That's a, when you take a big L and you just only get half a million out of it, God damn. I was about to say, I could use some Ls like that, bro. For sure. But as regular as we are, and we saw the $3.6 billion and we got $500,000. Tyler, I know you specifically, but oh, hell no. Never again. I appreciate this $500,000. It's half a meal, but never again.
Starting point is 00:20:11 Everything's about an hourly rate for me. So if I, I'm fair, I don't do work for other people that I don't own at this point, which is nice. But like, if I, if, how long do you think he spent on the song? If I spent a day on something and made $500,000 off of it, if someone make $10 billion over it, that's cool for me. No, no, not me. I made $100,000. If I made $100,000.
Starting point is 00:20:32 If I made $100,000 per hour and I was not laying down asphalt on a fucking road somewhere in New Jersey. They're not paying for the hourly rate. They're paying because you're pushing a T. You know what I mean? Is that true? Because I didn't know that that was him. Did they put him out in front of that? They created it.
Starting point is 00:20:49 It was a wild marketing scheme where they made a song called I'm loving it with Timberlake. You know what I'm saying? And to get people to get it in culture. And it got to like the top 100 and all of that. And then they made a song with Pusha T with Carl I'm Loving It too. And he only got $500K for that. Like, dog, you're using his name to help to build that up before you do the campaign. And you spent $3.6.
Starting point is 00:21:13 I thought it was just like the Arby's thing. It's just like you're just doing jingles. No, you use his name because he's Pusha T and you got to pay for like whatever years he put in a building his name up too. So $500K ain't shit for that, man. You know what I'm saying? McDonald's really hopped out there back in like the early 2000s and really went to the gutter to find rappers to do their shit.
Starting point is 00:21:32 Like, I don't know if y'all were hip to Bump J. Um, he had that move around track. I remember, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. And fucking McDonald's used that. And Bump Jays like a Chicago motherfucker who, who did like just did a 10 year bid for like moving dope and shit. You know what I'm saying?
Starting point is 00:21:46 And he was doing McDonald's jingles. So they was in the trenches in the early 2000s for whatever reason, bro. I mean, you know, we remember the, um, the commercials when they had niggas dancing and stuff in there, bro. They was, they was, they was, Hey, that McNock and doing the
Starting point is 00:22:00 And shit, bro. I'm like, they went crazy back there. McDonald's was 20 years ahead of the rest of corporate America. I'm trying to steal the culture. Or monetize the culture. You know, that's why they're number one, baby.
Starting point is 00:22:17 What is it? A trillion burgers sold at this point? Jesus Christ. Something crazy. They sold a fair amount to my family. I'll tell you that. Well, I can't eat it, right? I flew too close to the sun.
Starting point is 00:22:30 that steak burrito, steak and egg burrito. Back in like, man, I was to go into church, so it got to be like, 50. It was a minute ago. Having kids is reintroduced McDonald's fries and nuggets to my life. I was like, you, I was off of it for quite some time. And then the kids is like, they got the Disney Pixar contract, bro. Like, you know what I mean?
Starting point is 00:22:49 I can take you to Wendy's and they'll give you four crayons and a fucking wrinkled up something to color on or we go to McDonald's and they give you fucking, whatever your favorite movie is right now, they're giving you that. And you're the best dad in the world to your kids. So McDonald's, it is. You know what I'm saying? It is what it is, man.
Starting point is 00:23:08 The game is a game, and it's rigged, and they rigged it well, and good for them. And I rigged it on my behalf, too, because it's only $1 more than going on Wendy's, and I'm the best dad in the world, and that is worth a dollar. Damn right. I'll give you actually, this brings to mind the worst story I know of, of, like, working on a freelance contract and not getting anything off the back end. everyone who worked at Disney had it the worst, right? Like, you've heard all those stories that, like, the person who wrote the,
Starting point is 00:23:36 the person who wrote Aladdin made, like, whatever their hourly rate was at Disney, and that's it. And when they read it, when they're doing the live action adaptation, they were trying to not pay those people again, which is fucking, which is a wild. They're like, we already bought the script. Wow. It's crazy. But the craziest one I've ever come across in my work is there was a dude from Long Beach.
Starting point is 00:23:58 We went to Wilson High School here. worked for the NFL. We actually have a lot of Long Beach people who kind of worked for the NFL, but he worked in their marketing and graphics department in like the 60s or some shit. And at that time, it was like everything was done in-house and it was one company. So when the Buffalo Bills wanted their new logo, they went to the NFL and they said, we need a new logo. So this dude from Long Beach who was making, I think he said it was like 725 an hour, just in one afternoon made the Buffalo Bills logo that they're still using today with the bill. and then the red and the blue thing.
Starting point is 00:24:33 Yes. He made that on some after. Imagine an Olympics where doping is not only legal, but encouraged. It's the enhanced games. Some call it grotesque. Others say it's unleashing human potential. Either way, the podcast's Superhuman documented it all, embedded in the games and with the athletes for a full year.
Starting point is 00:24:53 Within probably 10 days, I'd put on 10 pounds. I was having trouble stopping the muscle growth. Listen to Superhuman on the IHard Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. A win is a win. A win is a win. I don't care what you're saying. Yep, that's me, Cliford Taylor the 4th. You might have seen the skits, the reactions, my journey from basketball to college football, or my career in sports media.
Starting point is 00:25:19 Well, somewhere along the way, this platform became bigger than I ever imagined. And now I'm bringing all of that excitement to my brand new podcast, The Clifford Show. This is a place for raw, unfiltered conversations with some of your favorite athletes, creators, and voices that not only deserve to be heard, but celebrated. One week, I'll take you behind the scenes of the biggest moments in sports and entertainment, and the next we'll talk about life, mental health, purpose, and even music. The Clifford Show isn't just a podcast, it's a space for honest conversations, stories that don't always get told, and for people who are chasing something bigger.
Starting point is 00:25:52 So, if you've ever supported me, or you're just chasing down a dream, this is right where you need to be. Starting point is 00:28:34 That's a, that's an L. I just can't abide with. You know what I'm saying? I can't sit aside and let that go. That's wild. 40 bucks? 40 bucks? Just punch the clock. Punch the clock. You can't even get a meal from cheesecake factory with 40.
Starting point is 00:28:50 he might get two slices of cheese cake right they paid him two chisliced the cheesecake and a decent tip you know what I mean he did he did he ended up doing quite well for himself but I did a story about him about the bills thing no for sure for well it was interesting interviewing him so I did a story about him because someone had told me this Long Beach dude did the bills logo he and his wife retired they both lived in Long Beach after they retired and I was just asking him just because I'm a freelance I've been a freelancer since I was a kid like hey, what did you get paid for this? Starting point is 00:33:26 call 1-800 next step. Okay. I want to just say officially we talked about the possibility of canceling Netflix a couple weeks ago and I want to say I am doing it and the reason is the following line
Starting point is 00:33:44 from an upcoming Jeff Foxworthy stand-up special on Netflix. I played every sport And it was weird back then If you wanted a trophy You had to finish in first place You're charging me $20 a month for this For Jeff Foxworthy stand-up specials
Starting point is 00:34:02 In 1998 participation trophy jokes Come on man What the fuck And what's wild is the actual Netflix Netflix account plug that shit Like yeah, this is some heat right here I'm the motherfucker what? This won
Starting point is 00:34:15 Yeah I didn't like Jeff Foxworth when he was Jeff Foxworthy when he was popping. Now you giving me him in 2022 and up in the price. I'm sorry. I'm binging. I'm binging. Like, what is it?
Starting point is 00:34:28 Uh, uh, the, the, the drug shit in Missouri. I'm binging that shit. Yeah. What's that? Oh, Ozark. I'm, I'm binging Ozark and I'm shaking.
Starting point is 00:34:37 This is the last weekend I'm having Netflix for sure. I'm not spending money. I'm not spending $20 a month on that shit. Hell no. That's disrespectful. Yeah. That's what I'm about say. It's all about the disrespect.
Starting point is 00:34:46 Just like Netflix. It's just. Right. And the whole cracking down on fucking, you know, pass code sharing and shit. Like, who the fuck do y'all think y'all are, man? Right. You know what I'm saying? Y'all are going to make me take my little $20 a month just to spite y'all motherfuckers.
Starting point is 00:35:01 Because I do not like people talking to me like that. Fuck y'all, man. It's the principle that I have the $20 a month. I just don't want to give it to you. Also, why is there a, why are people lying? I got trophies for just being on teams. You get the, like there was, you got a trophy for just making it through the season. Then you got the like the offensive trophy trophy and the defensive trophy.
Starting point is 00:35:24 You know what I'm saying? Like, they're old. He's the age of our, he's the age of our parents. But he's old. He's like, he's old. But the thing is they're acting like this is a new thing. So I'm, bro, I'm old. If it's been going on since I was a kid, it's been going on for a minute.
Starting point is 00:35:38 Why is this thing that's been talking about the last 10 years? You know what I mean? 40 fucking years. I don't know and I also don't understand the coaches who are giving me participation trophies graduated high school with Jeff Foxworthy. Right. Like, your generation ordered the participants. Yeah, we were holding bake sales to buy ourselves participation trophies.
Starting point is 00:35:59 You just, they just handed them to you the end of the year, bro. And like I've said, you know, Jeff Foxworthy, he's the, you might be a redneck guy. So, you know, his base is redneck as he's admitted himself. And if that, like I've said before, if that crowd is anti-participation trophy, Y'all got to explain why y'all loves the Confederate statues so damn much. Because those are the biggest fucking participation trophies that exist in the world for a bunch of fucking losers who got their ass beat. You know what I'm saying? Y'all anti-participation troveys.
Starting point is 00:36:29 But when we wanted to take the participation trophy of Robert E. Lee down, you know, in downtown motherfuckers were crying. And no, what if you can't erase history? They got their ass whooped at the crib. You lost the war at home. Home court. You lost a war on your block. Homefield.
Starting point is 00:36:47 Sherman came to and burn that bitch down. Y'all ain't do shit. And now y'all cry about participation trophies, man. Fuck y'all. All right. Yeah. Fuck Netflix. I'm upset about this, bro.
Starting point is 00:37:00 Because I always liked Netflix. It was like, ooh, they're, you know, they're changed. Like, this was our generations. Like, they're changing the fucking game.
Starting point is 00:37:06 I miss Blockbuster like a motherfucker. Yeah. Netflix. And that was like, you're serving me, Jeff Foxworthy. It's a timing, too. It's a timing.
Starting point is 00:37:16 They just told us they going up in March and they give us this. So this is who you paying with this extra bread. So we can get more of this. I'm sorry, bro. Not here for it. Not here for it. Fuck that. Can't do it.
Starting point is 00:37:30 John, you and I are having a similar dilemma right now, which is your wife is out of town. My wife had to work last night, which means we both did not watch the new Abbott Elementary. To save the marriage. Is this not the most modern relationship? shit, dilemma shit ever other than not being able to buy a house or something. Like, every married
Starting point is 00:37:52 couple I know has this shit where it's like, no, you've got to wait to watch that. It's like, I don't want to wait to watch it. I have it right now. I told Rother, Quinta herself had to hit me up to prevent me from watching it. And she did. She said, oh my God.
Starting point is 00:38:06 No, stay together, please. I'm like, damn. Oh, my God. So, yeah. It's funny, though. It's cool. It's cool. It'll be more fun watching her anyway, honestly.
Starting point is 00:38:18 It was a great episode. I'll just leave it at that. That's like, Tyler, come on, rub it in. It was a good, fucking show. It's a perfect show.
Starting point is 00:38:28 Yes. My favorite show on cable television now. Like I said, if you can pull off wholesome comedy like they do, like that takes talent, bro. Hard. For real.
Starting point is 00:38:38 Hard. Yeah. Rather pulled out the scoporuni on you. She said, bro. I didn't even get to see the tweet yet. She's sitting. me to tweet like, the sanctity of our marriage depends on you not watching this. Okay. And I posted like, might be worth it. Quince was like, not worth it. It's great. This is my show and it's not
Starting point is 00:39:04 worth it, bro. No. All right. Before we get out of here, let's talk about winning time. We've got another psycho on the board with Pat Riley. I continue to just love. I I could, like, mute the show and just watch it and just enjoy the way it looks. It is, it's so beautiful. But Adrian Brody doing Pat Riley is, like, so much fun. I can't believe they put Chick-Hern out there like that with the quote. We need to talk about chick-Hern. Is he low-key races?
Starting point is 00:39:36 Because, you know what I'm saying? When they were talking about going after, who was it? They were talking about going after. Felton Spencer, I think it was. And he was like, I don't know. He's with that pro-African stuff. You remember that little quote? Yeah.
Starting point is 00:39:46 And then the shit he said last episode, like, bro. Let me put it like this. I feel like every white dude who likes the Lakers is like, oh, this Jerry West shit's hilarious. He's being soft as fuck. And then when the Chick Hearn shit has been on TV, we're like, well, it's just a TV show. It's just like a caricature.
Starting point is 00:40:05 Right. The fuck. That's crazy. Yeah, because Chick Hearn is like, if you grew up in Southern California, man, he's like, he is a Laker. Like, he has a statue out. side of Staples Center right next to
Starting point is 00:40:16 Shaq and fucking Karim and Kobe bro. That's crazy. You can sit next to Chick-Hern's statue at the desk and take a picture with him. He's out here saying he's with the pro-hapagin stuff on the show. Like, oh, shit.
Starting point is 00:40:32 What did he say last episode? He called someone he said some shit about gorillas or some shit like that, I think. And he used the bad F-sler with Adrian and Brody last. He said your voice is happy. And then he said some shit about something. about gorillas, I think. I got to rewatch that shit because I was
Starting point is 00:40:47 Zooted as I was. Yeah, I might have missed that. Yeah. But yeah, the fucking chickharns, the low-key bigot. Who would have seen that coming? But, hey. White people in the 70s, bro, like, I guess that's the lesson is like, it's just all the, I mean, Jerry Buss, they're making, Jerry West and Jerry Buss, they're making them look bad in a particular way, but I'm sure they're not, you know, Jerry Buss, like, he's at the Playboy Mansion. We don't really feel great about
Starting point is 00:41:14 the Playboy Mansion in 2022. Yeah. You know what I mean? It's some shit, bro. But they're not shying away from some of it. I'm sure they're shying away from some other stuff. But they have everyone running so scared that this week, magic and Jeannie Bus are both talking about they have their own documentaries about themselves coming out.
Starting point is 00:41:34 I would know. I love magic so motherfucking much. Like any time I highlight real floats down my timeline, I'm checking it out. I do not want to see a magic produced documentary on magic. That is going to be fucking a fluff piece Disney Pixar ass. Give me the real magic. Give me the dickhead who was out here, you know,
Starting point is 00:41:51 body and, you know, his ex-boyfriend and pick up his shit. Give me the real fucking magic, bro. I'm going to be honest with y'all. I watched that with Ruther, so I couldn't watch it this episode either. I'm going to tell her you fucking up my money, babe. Like, we got to come to agreement or something. If we're talking about it on the pot, I at least got to be able to watch it.
Starting point is 00:42:12 So, yeah, I didn't get to see that either. Okay. But I will say, you know, I am learning shit here. Like I thought that this was just going to be kind of, you know, you know, just, you know, a fucking production of shit I already knew. But I had no idea that fucking they had Jerry Tark, you know, handshake deal to get him to coach. I had no idea about that.
Starting point is 00:42:30 We're going to see how it falls apart, obviously, next episode probably. But that's, that was news to me for sure. John, take your headphones off real quick. No, I don't care, though. Okay. The crazy thing about Tark is, so, you know, he coached at Long Beach State before he went out to UNOV. Long Beach States were the stuff with the NCAA really happened.
Starting point is 00:42:47 And so the joke at Long Beach State in the 70s was the NCAA got so mad at UCLA, they turned around and punched Long Beach State, right? They were mad about all the illegal recruiting and shit that John Wooden was doing. So when they found a way to get Tark on the same shit, they really came down with a hammer on some sanctions and shit. So the rumor was, I'll call it a rumor for politics sake on the show.
Starting point is 00:43:13 Jerry Tarkhanian walked into a particular bar that still exists in Long Beach, and the people who were the money behind Long Beach State dumped cash out on the table when he was going to go to UNLV. They dumped a lot of cash out on the table. And he looked at the money on the table, laughed, and said to them, you're not even in the same room right now. God damn. God damn.
Starting point is 00:43:41 And the stories that they're apparently going all the way in on telling his story in Vegas tells you what the money that he was looking at in Vegas was. Because that was a crazy shit to see in a basketball show. This is an HBO show like a motherfucker. Wait, John Wooden, who everybody talks about as like, you know, rule follower Wooden and all this shit, right? Was illegally recruiting? John Wooden had a money guy. I wish people would shut the fuck up. It's just so wild hearing stuff like that.
Starting point is 00:44:17 I didn't know that. Oh, we can get into that. I don't, there is no such thing as a clean recruiter in coaching. I, I mean, that makes sense. That makes sense to me, but they present these people as if, like, this is like, you know what I mean? This was the guy that everybody should follow due to how, you know, Disney rated G he was and everything he did.
Starting point is 00:44:39 You know what I'm saying? like um i'm trying to i'm trying to i'm sam gilbert was was john wooden's uh money guy uh acknowledged is his please please throw that in the group chat please i'm gonna i want to i want to do my own research here's here's here here's here's here's here's here's his wiki sam gilbert was an american businessman who owned a construction company in los angeles california he is best known as a controversial athletic booster of the ucLA bruin men's basketball team from the mid-1960s until ucLA was ordered to disassociate from him in 1981. He ran a money laundering enterprise to finance the now famous world poker tour.
Starting point is 00:45:19 This is fucking crazy. Are there docs about this or something? Because I've never heard about this side of John Wooden. So at Long Beach State, because Long Beach State and UCLA were like here with each other at the start of John Wooden's run. So there is an enduring bitterness about this shit that when they caught Targ doing the literally the exact same stuff that John Wooden and UCLA were doing. They basically gave Long Beach State the death penalty. UCLA was the Golden Goose.
Starting point is 00:45:45 So it was like, oh, you just don't talk to that dude anymore. You know what I mean? Whereas for Long Beach State it was like, you can't play basketball in the NCAA tournament for three years or whatever, you know? When at that time, they were, you know, Sweet 16 team. Like they were losing to UCLA on buzzer beaded and shit. Right, right, right. Yeah, there's no, like Tyler said, there's no cleanliness anywhere at any level.
Starting point is 00:46:07 But, and I do continue to enjoy this about winning time, there was a different attitude around sports. Like, I love this, the clip of Pat Riley. He's depressed so he goes and plays basketball. Like, you cannot picture anyone involved in the NBA at this point being depressed about something and playing basketball on the beach. You know what I mean? Not the coaches, not the players. Like, the world is stratified in a different way that, like, I just love seeing these like desperate, nasty. dudes in the 1970s where basketball was like going to the gym or anything we would do now. You know what I mean? They're just like, I'm going to go get busted in the fucking nose playing basketball as my way of coping with something.
Starting point is 00:46:49 Right, right. Fucking Pat Riley was out there living in a goddamn trailer, fucking boat like fucking Mel Gibson, Elitheleton and shit. I was like, what the fuck is? I'm like Pat Pat Riley out here scrambling, dog. This motherfucker fucking living like what, Mertog or whatever the fuck? Like, God damn. that's fucking perfect that's great and i don't know john i don't know if you're having this experience
Starting point is 00:47:15 with rod the shark knows the names but she does not know the story yeah i like i paused it midway through and i looked at i was like you know who pat riley is and she's like i'm familiar with the name and i was like but you don't know who he's going to be in the context of this show and she was like no i was like that's perfect like what a great way to go through all that shit i'm i'm kind of jealous of her just like she didn't know any of the guy she didn't know you know she didn't know you know she didn't know red hourbock or any of that shit so she's so tapped in on that like they're doing a great job of bringing non-basketball diehard people into this show i feel like this might as well be fiction rather bro this might as well be fucking harry pottergy she has no idea who any of these people
Starting point is 00:47:52 are for her job she's talking to like Swedish government shit bro she's so detached what the fuck i'd be talking about bro you feel me so no but she loves it she thinks it's beautiful And she like, you know, so she knows who magic is. She knows those names. You know what I mean? So for sure. For sure, for sure. She, yeah.
Starting point is 00:48:12 All right. I'll make another joke, but I'll just let you hear the joke for yourself the first time on the show. Okay. All right. That's all the time we got for this week. Thanks for tapping in. We'll be back on Monday with some more this and that. What the fuck was that?
Starting point is 00:48:29 Some more this and that. Somebody. Somebody left us a negative review on Apple podcast. You read the comments? No, no, no, no. A friend of mine who listens to the show, screenshot it and sent it to me. It was like, I know this is a negative review, but he's like, I feel like it's a great description of the show. The review was just too much this and that.
Starting point is 00:48:54 Sorry, one star. I was like, that's the podcast. You came to the wrong place. You came to the wrong place. You're right. You're correct. There's a lot of this and that. There's a whole bunch of this and that. You guys want to end the show with the voicemail?
Starting point is 00:49:09 Yeah. Let's go. Oh, yes. Yes, yes, yes. Okay, here we go. Well, Goddown. I'm going to have to call back because I'm not even sure exactly what to say, but I'm going to come up with something in the next few minutes, and I'm going to give you motherfuckers a call and spit it out. All right, niggas. Got down. I hang this shit up. Some bullshit.
Starting point is 00:49:40 He gave us a voicemail on this though he was going to call back and give us another voicemails out of the fucking seven. Bro, was high as hell. He couldn't figure out how to hang up either. It was honestly the most like Jenkins and Jones-ass shit
Starting point is 00:49:51 I've ever heard. These are the only type of fucking voicemails we want right here, bro. Well, God damn. Well, God damn. I guess I'm here. I forgot what I was supposed to say. I'm going to hit y'all back and tell you,
Starting point is 00:50:04 though. Guess what? Never called back. Of course he did. Your motherfucker took a weed hat for calling it a day. I appreciate the love, though, for show. Oh, that's perfect. Perfect introduction to the voicemail.

One last fresh break with California avocados. This whole time, I've been doing some thinking. Bear with me here.
Starting point is 00:51:35 If you were going to grow avocados, wouldn't you grow them in California? Acres and acres of rich soil for farming, all that blue sky and sunshine, and that fresh ocean breeze? I'm not saying I'm going to do it, but if I were to grab a shovel and start planting avocado trees, I'd start my grove right here in California. Luckily, the local growers behind California avocados are way ahead of me, so all it takes is a trip to the market for the freshest and most delicious avocados out there.
Starting point is 00:52:00 The best avocados have California in them. California avocados, now in season. Another podcast from some SNL late-night comedy guide. Not quite. Starting point is 00:52:46 Either way, the podcast's Superhuman documented it all, embedded in the games and with the athletes for a full year. Within probably 10 days, I'd put on 10 pounds.
