The Herd with Colin Cowherd - Joe and Jada - DaBaby on surviving controversies, putting Charlotte on the map & Joe's robbing the gym story
Episode Date: March 24, 2026Fat Joe and Jadakiss sit down with DaBaby, who pulls up to Joe and Jada fresh off his new album ‘Be More Grateful’ and his current single ‘Pop Dat Thang’ that's taken over the ...hip hop charts and the clubs. Joe reflects on being in DaBaby's corner during his controversies and tells him that he’s always believed that there are some people, like himself and Dave Chappelle, that can’t be cancelled. The conversation gets into what it took to kick the door down coming out of Charlotte with no blueprint, how J. Cole and Petey Pablo also put on for North Carolina rap, and what it feels like to have your hometown ride for you when the rest of the world is trying to turn its back. Joe opens up about his own experiences losing everything to the IRS, watching fake loyalty disappear overnight, and the moment "All the Way Up" dropped and he turned around and fired every dude in his section. Plus, DaBaby calls out Trick Daddy to decide who’s the best chef in the rap game and asks Joe about his viral story of robbing everyone in his high school gym. I'm Joe.
I'm Kevin.
And I'm Nick.
And guess what?
We created our own podcast called, Hey Jonas.
We invented a podcast?
Well, we didn't invent it.
We just contributed to it.
We're the first people to do podcasts.
We get to ask other people questions because we're sick and tired of being asked questions.
Well, sick and tired is a strong way to put it.
But, you know, tired and sick.
Listen to Hey Jonas on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcast.
Just listen.
We don't care where you hear it.
Another podcast from some SNL late-night comedy guy,
not quite.
Unhumor me with Robert Smygel and Friends.
Me and hilarious guests from Bob Odenkirk to David Letterman

This week, my guest, S&L's Mikey Day and head writer, Streeter Seidel,
help an a cappella band with their between songs banter.
Where does your group perform?
We do some retirement homes.
Those people are starving for banter.
Listen to humor me with Robert Smigel and Friends on the I-Heart Radio app,

We're digging into the biggest surprises of the season.

You know, it's all love.
This was just playoffs.
This was just basketball.

I heard about when you robbed that whole gym, nigga.
I did, though.
I did, baby.
That's why I like you because you're real one.
You know what I'm talking about you.
You said, Joe, the whole gym.
And they helped me with the Walkman's in the Jackson.
Yeah.
You tell you something.
Yeah, yeah, what up, y'all?
This Joe Crack the Dawn.
It's your boy, Jada.
You know what it is, the Joe and Jada show.
show legendary, every show iconic.
You know what I mean?
Today is a, I'm not having the best of days.
But I think it'll, I think we're going to finish up strong.
That's what I mean?
That's right.
When you think of today's guests, you think of bars.
You think of hit songs.
You think of stadium shakers.
You think of controversy.
You think of somebody able to overcome controversy.
Get back to the back.
You think of a great father.
You know what I mean?
Let's never leave that out
because they always tend to leave that out.
Think of a great father.
You think of a great cook, a great chef.
Get busy in the kitchen.
I do you.
You think of somebody you probably would have never thought
that has skills behind the camera
to direct and create visuals
that he wants to bring to life.
Who would make him a jack of all trades.
Ladies and gentlemen,
make some noise for my brother the baby.
That's the introduction of the central.
Mom, baby.
No, I got a lake.
No, I got a lake.
I appreciate you.
For sure.
It's a pleasure to be here, man.
If you watch the show,
he don't give everybody them type of it.
Not that one.
That was a rollout.
extend those.
That's what he deserves.
You know what I mean?
You gotta get that.
That's love that.
There's not many of us left.
We gotta hold each other now.
Come on, now.
You know that.
You know, I was with you
and I had just left you in the airport
and I bumped into the guy.
What's the guy, y'all?
He was jerking off on the plane.
What's my man?
Yeah, yeah.
Fender, Fender.
Flat.
It's all right.
Throw one.
Throw one.
It was the same day.
in the airport. I love you. I had my brother
be safe. The nigga was on the same
flight. Oh, Jesus Christ.
I got a confirmation. On the way
out there, we was on the same flight.
You was on the same flight?
Not the one. Not the y'allel flight.
Not that one.
I was in the airport. I said,
what's up to you? Yeah.
Yo, what's up? My brother's a flight.
Overseas. It was somewhere.
Yeah. I think Dubai is somebody. I don't know.
Yeah.
But I bumped into him.
Depender, pender.
And the next thing I get home, I see them on the news.
Jerk Yon did one-on-one.
The pender, the pender, the pender, isn't it?
Are you ever going to leave them?
Are you ever going to let him lend that down, man?
Leave him alone, man.
He got caught in the moment, man.
You got to be a lot.
You got to leave him alone.
Sooner or later, you got to give them.
You got to give a break, right?
That's the last one.
I'm not going no more like that.
He's trying to get back on the right past.
He dropped a nice record.
He gets greater later.
Yeah, he dropped a nice record recently too.
So I got nothing but love for him.
The baby up in here, you know me, I always say he's uncancellable.
It's almost like Dave Chappelle.
When they say he can't, so I'm like, hey.
You know what?
It's certain people, you can't throw that.
that shit on.
Certain people, you can't,
God's a real guy, you know he ain't a rat.
You could try to call him a rat, but don't nobody really believe it.
Guys, you throw certain dirt at them.
A guy like me look and be like, nah, that shit ain't real.
And so when they want you to fall to the noise,
to the cancer and all that.
So you went there, I watched it live.
So me and my daughter was watching on the thing,
and I seen it, and I didn't know.
was going to be as big as it was,
but it turned into,
did you know it was going to be that big when you...
No, no, absolutely not.
Nah, caught left field, you know what I'm saying?
Big time, though, right?
That's a tsunami.
That's like you on the beach,
and the tsunami shit comes.
That shit is no intention.
And I don't really like swimming in the ocean.
I'm cool.
I'd be asked for my life jacket
and get on the boat and shit, you know what I'm saying.
Definitely, you know, caught a nigga left field.
But you know, shit happens.
Back, yeah.
It's stronger than that, you know.
You're going to fold.
You're going, you know, so.
Stand up.
I heard you say that 50 Cent encouraged you to stay rapping and stay focused.
Yeah.
You was another nigga, too.
Like, yeah.
You ain't never shy away from, like, you know, just recognizing, like, you know,
this shit, the nigger stood for in just the fact that on the other show you had,
you had going on at the time.
But it was a clip that I want to, I'm going to highlight you because I wanted to put that
in my documentary.
So we don't need to be here.
Whatever I did, you got it.
You said I was ready for war.
Yeah, that one.
So, yeah, no, it was niggas like y'all, you know.
I always got love from the O.Gs, the niggas did I, you know what I'm saying?
Admired, you know what I'm saying, growing up there.
And niggas did everybody I looked up to and fucked with as a young man.
All the niggas fucked with you.
You know what happened to me is when I got in the rap game, I left the streets alone.
And by hook or by crook, I was just,
determined to make it in this business.
Like I was just like, yo, there's no,
there's nothing else to me.
You know, and so,
I don't know your situation, but
when you was going through it,
when I would talk to you,
I'm just letting you know, like, yo,
fuck what they're saying.
You're talented.
Get back on that bike and fuck all that.
Like, keep going and then you catch one
and then, you know,
shit will get better. And right now,
you got the biggest shit out there.
right now.
What that feel like?
All right,
what that feel like
when they're telling you,
they're telling you
it's over and now I know
you don't feel,
you know,
you had a couple of joints
after that that popped off.
Yeah.
But this one,
this one.
This one.
This is a smoker.
What does that feel like?
Oh, shit,
if you're all I was supposed to feel,
I mean,
I ain't forgot how to do nothing.
You know what I'm saying?
At the end of the day of anything,
they could just, you know,
hey,
I ain't,
I ain't,
I ain't got the difference.
difference in it, it's like I'm back just, you know,
having fun with this shit.
And I ain't looking for nothing in particular.
And that's when this shit just,
it's going to go how it go with me regardless, you know what I'm saying?
So it feels good to be, you know,
the half-muffer's favorite,
their favorite song, all this shit, everybody on.
Yeah, that's what I'm supposed to.
Now, that bitch, that shit came,
that shit was the smoker off rip.
One listen, they sent it to me.
I was like, oh, no, this shit out of you.
I knew what it was.
I knew what it was.
I mean, it was going to be good.
though from your journey.
Your journey.
You know what I mean?
Whenever you
whenever you guys
whenever you nice
is inevitable
for your number to play.
But in this particular game
for some reason
whenever
whenever you're first attempt
that like,
you know, I'm one of them
and they give you a little pushback.
You always get the fucking
laugh, laugh, last.
Nah, for sure, for sure.
I respect you for that because you know.
Some dudes break after a couple doors closed on them.
Yeah, get like that.
They go find another.
Straight up.
They switch majors.
Straight up.
For sure.
Stuck it out.
I mean, and it all.
I love you because you ain't never been pussy.
Let me tell you something.
And that's the whole other.
That's a whole other.
Yeah, I'll rate niggas on that.
You know what I'm saying?
The baby ain't pussy, man.
Man.
Let me get over here and get out of that air.
You know what I mean?
I know when they get...
I'm saying about the Duke game going.
I know when they get out of that air.
Charlotte, North Carolina,
what did you have out there to inspire you?
Yeah.
Were there ever artists that came from Charlotte?
I know Pity Pablo.
He ain't from Charlotte, but he...
He's from...
He's from North Carolina.
He's from Greenwood.
No, I've been...
I got down with Pity Pablo.
Yeah.
Physical form.
Me and him against 2032, he's...
He's not pussy.
He did North Carolina right.
That's what it is.
So Pidi Padole, who else?
About it.
Jay Cole from now.
Oh, Jay Cole.
That's a big deal.
Yeah, for sure.
He's from Fayetteville, North Carolina.
He got Charlotte pretty much on this back.
He got...
That's the 100%.
Literally.
One thing, I didn't...
I didn't give a fuck.
I was in North Carolina.
Yeah.
So at the height of the hate for you,
yeah.
Your fucking town,
the radio, they stood by you to a billion percent.
I was in North Charlotte, North Carolina,
and I'm listening to the radio,
and they're acting like,
ain't no cancel here.
We're playing this motherfucker.
This motherfucker, the baby,
so your town, how do you feel with your town?
Shit, I mean, I'm still there.
I ain't went in nowhere,
but, you know, when it come to Charlotte,
like, it wasn't no examples for sure of, like,
I was the first nigga to the part of the show.
He's setting the ball.
You know what I'm saying?
The first nigga, you know what I mean?
We got a couple of niggas right there
at that threshold right now.
Like Fetty P, I fought with Fetty P, that's my nigger.
Shut out to him.
Other than that, like, ahead of me,
like, I really had to kick the throw down.
You know what I mean?
So that's what, that's what happened in condition
to be able to navigate through whatever
in the industry, because it ain't,
it ain't nothing sweet.
You know what I'm saying?
In Charlotte, like, if you get up out of there,
you can get up out of there,
you can go anywhere.
You can go anywhere.
Let me tell you something.
Every time I go to Charlotte Highway,
I feel like still in the trees
y'all niggas don't got no trees
yeah we ain't got no trees
y'all got the fucking cherry blossoms and all
in the highway got the trees
I mean like yo I should come down here
with a you haul steal all these shits and bring them back
to my back yard like they got the expensive trees on the highway
with all the colors and all that shit
and shout out the Greensboro
yeah every year I go out the Greensboro
in the summer the Soul Food Joint
you know the Soul Food Joint out there right
Or they give you
Pepto Bismo with the food, man.
They know they're about the fuck you walk.
They get Peptobisbo's on the stand.
You walk in, they got Peptobisbo on the stand.
You know you're going to go to the toilet
later on.
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
So good over there, man.
You know, I went to
this, this, this.
So my experience in North Carolina,
it's two North Carolina.
Okay.
People, no, no, no, no, no.
I'm going to tell you.
right now. I'm going to tell you right now.
In North Carolina,
they are the nicest, sweetest people
in the world, and racism
is real.
So I go one day to Roof Chris
because you always want me to fucking step on shit
in Greensboro. I went to Roof Chris
and I was dressed up like this
and they was letting white people in with tank tops
and fucking slippers on it. It was like,
yo, you don't meet the dress coat.
I said what?
It was like you in there.
And I had some Gvon cheese shit
on some fly shit.
I'm like,
how they was like,
not the dress code.
Now,
the racism,
you know,
I get racism every year.
I told you,
they told me the other day
that the prisoners over here.
I get racism all the time.
I just handle it,
keep it moat.
But my driving,
he took so offense,
he started screaming on them crazy.
So when I get back in the car,
he said,
I said,
I said,
told you.
Let me take you to the Soul Food joint
where they want to see you.
These people full of shit here,
they're racist, this, this, that.
He told me to the Soul Food.
Every year I've been going back to that Soul Food,
Friday, Saturday, and Sunday.
Like, I've been going there.
You know what I'm saying?
And I'm not a sewer, you know what I mean?
I could have sued.
Yeah, I'm not a sewer.
I could have sued the airport.
He told me I said to call.
Ben Crump in one second, right?
The motherfucker, come.
I was last week, I'm in the airport.
The dude.
Where where was at?
Phoenix.
Phoenix.
The dude was like prisoners over there.
I had my security with me.
He's like, huh?
Like, prisoners on that line.
I guess that's...
He has a prisoner.
What you're doing?
Prisoners over there.
And then he doubled down on it.
I said prisoners over there.
They could look like Bud Bundy or one of them dudes.
Like Al Bundy or some shit.
I would have been...
He said I should have been Elizabeth.
Elizabeth.
The lady came and she was like,
yo, I hear you had an incident, this and this.
I was like, now, I'm going to...
good. She was like, you sure? He said, that's
what I think it was Kay said, you should have said,
well, well, my trauma's
coming back. She started crying.
Yeah. Yeah.
You know, this shit out of control. I just going to work
for minds, man. This shit, yo,
how hard is it
navigating? Because this is
your prime, this is your error, this is
your age group, this is your time.
How is it
just waking up looking at social
media every day? Like, nothing to do
with you. Just looking at all
crazy shit going,
yo, this shit is crazy, kids.
I think I'm going to start smoking weed
or something. I'm learning. I got to smoke weed.
No, I'm going to do it.
I'm going to do it. That's it, guys. I don't want
nobody get mad at me. I'm going to start
smoking weeds. At least gummies and some shit.
I can't take it.
Morgoners on the Instagram. Do y'all see
what I see? Yeah, it's wild. I don't know.
You got a different algorithm.
That's what it is?
Yeah. So, you know, I don't have
my age. You know, I'm one of the fly-so
O. G.
You ever seen in the fucking universe,
you know what I'm saying?
I walk up,
it's almost like I think I'm 28th.
And one day,
I put up that,
yo, Chris,
one day I threw on that Instagram,
one day,
my algorithm,
the young fly shit,
I threw it up and they were like,
did it in?
Ditt-da-da-da-d-d-d-d-d-d-n-n-n-n-n-n-n-n-n-n.
Niggas just breakdancing.
The next one is hip with graffiti.
The next thing was singing to the hip.
They was like,
basically my Instagram,
the algorithm was like,
yo,
at your age,
this is where you can start.
I was like, no!
I thought I was in a nightmare on that bitch.
I started liking all the young shit.
Like, yo, get back.
Yeah.
Get back.
I can't do that shit.
Like, yo.
How important are visuals for you
because you're very,
you might have took the new buster
slot of your videos.
You take it there on the video.
I mean, when it comes to me,
liking the shit to be going on in my head,
bro,
videos important.
Like, I really didn't, then train my audience to, like...
Expect some shit.
You feel me?
Like, so that's the thing, like, with the song I got going crazy right now, like,
it went up through that without the video.
Normally, I come up to video off the rip.
Same time.
And they goddamn do that.
So when that bitch took off before the video, he came out,
I already knew what time it was,
and just had to make sure the video, you know what I'm saying?
Met the standards of what motherfuckers expect.
But them shit's super important, brother.
answer the question, like, I got to paint that picture.
You know what I mean?
That's why I'm so hands-on with this shit, too,
because it ain't too many motherfuckers that can, you know what I'm saying,
paint my picture better than me.
So, yeah, that's what got a nigga.
Good head first until, like, the directing and all that shit.
Those stages, too, huh?
I see you love, you love touching them stage.
Yeah, performing was better than always been, like,
one of my favorite parts of this shit.
That, doing the videos and shit, being hands-on in the videos,
performing, they're my favorite parts of this shit.
All that other shit, it's too much.
You know what I'm saying?
It's too much to, you know what I mean?
To figure out with the rest of that shit,
I got that shit figured out.
That's the shit you can't fabricate.
Like, I'm right here in front of you, you know what I'm saying?
So, you know, anything I'm saying, anything I'm doing, you know,
live performance, that shit.
That's it.
The live show killer.
So I'm ready to get out here on this tour.
You know what I mean?
I'm going to tour next week.
Yeah?
Yeah, get back in front of my people.
You with somebody else?
I got a Zetti Will on there,
Zeddy Will.
A couple new artists head, band.
Oh, that's fine.
Yeah, a younger girl.
She's from the DMV area.
So, you know, I definitely wanted to snatch up the younger,
the younger people, the upcoming people.
That's what I wanted to go out with you,
what I'm saying, and let them turn up, you know what I mean?
So it's going to be one big-ass party.
That's fine.
When is start next week?
Yeah, first stop, Houston.
First stop Houston.
Oh, shit.
That's right.
Get your tickets.
That record in Houston.
Right on time.
Spring break still.
Right on time.
Shit gonna be crazy.
Right on time.
Houston, let me tell you something, man.
I was seeing Houston get you in trouble, Joe.
Houston gets you in trouble, Joe.
And this girl, I seek the kingdom.
Seek the kingdom.
Houston, I went to a strip club.
This girl ran up on me.
She had a rock this big on shit.
This one, Scott Storch was the man.
She was like, look, your man bought me this ring.
I said, my man, I want to rob the bitch.
I'm like, yo, he bought you what?
She was like, yeah, you're man, me and him, we engaged.
She's shaking her ass into Houston shit.
I'm looking like, you all like, man.
Let me tell you saying, Houston,
or make you lose your mind, man.
Shout out to Houston, man, and everybody out there.
I used to go to Houston all the time back in the day.
Back in the West Love there, I used to just hang out.
I used to hang out there with a bunch of Mexicans.
Yeah.
in Houston, and they would turn the diner into the strip club.
Like, it was not legal.
Whatever they were doing was not.
They were coming in this fucking store and turn that bitch into a strip club.
Barbershop, they're not.
They're close to crazy, though.
Nah, they had the strip club anywhere out there.
They didn't coach you crazy.
I thought it was Houston.
Yeah.
23 tracks on this album.
23 home.
Well, man, you had a lot to say.
It had been a minute.
Yeah.
It had been a minute.
you know and not only that like I wanted to I wanted to check every box I wanted to get into the lyrical shit I wanted to do do some of all that you know what I'm saying definitely had to get had to get back and tune with my ladies with the lady audience you know what I had to do them right I had the goddamn demonstrate you know the lyricism and shit I had to put the bars on there and I had to put the hits on there and I just had to have that raw energy that turn-up shit so I wanted to make sure I check every box on this motherfucker I ain't lead nothing off
And then the song that's going crazy right now.
That's the last one I did.
I did that one right before.
That's it.
I turned up and I'm like, I got all the mother's shit to check.
I need that one.
You know what I mean?
When a producer sent me to beat, I'm like, yeah, that's her.
That's her.
That's all she wrote.
You tell you something, I need you on a song.
I got to play you after this.
I can't wait.
Come on with it.
I need that pain.
You know what I'm saying?
All the time I heard this shit, I said, damn,
I need the baby on this shit second birth, you know what I?
I can't wait.
Run it.
What's your process in the studio?
What's your necessity?
Just sanctities.
I don't need nothing but the music and the microphone, for real, for real.
I'm on it outside the booth.
You know what I'm saying?
I want it outside the booth right there.
I want to sit down.
I ain't trying to stand up.
And that's it.
You know what I'm saying?
With me, it's just play the music.
The music don't catch me off the rip.
Like, ah, a nigger come in, like,
should a producer come in.
Like, I got down.
Like, I'm not one of them niggies that have let a nigga
play some shit for like, you know.
You know it.
Right, man.
You know it.
Right there.
Play another.
Play another.
Cause I'm gonna know.
I'm gonna rip, you know what I'm saying?
When these,
catch me, it's loaded up.
So the music talk to you?
No, 100%.
Yeah, I let the music got down.
You know what I'm saying?
Talk to me.
And I do the rest.
You're happy, you sad, you dish, you know?
Yeah, 100%.
It's gonna bring out.
What I'm saying?
I do me.
I give them a little more courtesy.
Like, I'd like, I'll listen to the beat
even though I'm not sure.
I'll be like, all right.
Then I'll be like, aye, I don't want that.
But you know, I got one of them ears where you can't bullshit me.
Just one of them?
Yeah, I got, let me tell you something.
Let me tell you one thing, because I got one of the greatest ears in hip hop history.
Come on, I know how to hear beat, I know how to hear a hit, I know how to hear it.
I just know how to do it.
And so I'll listen.
You can't fake me out.
Like guys used to come to my studio.
This is real talk.
Yeah.
So back in the days, the way it was,
I don't know, Rough Riders, y'all definitely had this, right?
So when Territ Squad, Pond, everything,
the number one producers would stand online,
like Alchemist said,
they're coming there, play us five, ten,
so this is the number one guys.
Yeah.
They leave the next number one guy.
It was like,
and they come up in there,
and they play some good beats,
but it was close, but no cigar.
And I'd be like, yo, let me ask you,
I said, what you got for Jay-Z?
Oh, that's a different stage.
Right, right, right.
That's over here in my dad,
can you play me that?
They'll play some shit out of this world.
And I'll be like, yo, I need that fucking beat.
You know what I'm saying?
That Remi's conceited?
That was Missy's beat.
I had to put crazy pressure on Scott something.
I know, I need that for Remi.
And he was like, yo, but Missy,
I think she cut vocals to it this.
I was like, yo.
I'm sorry to say Scott
We need you
That right here
Shouldn't have played it for me
Man, that shit too crazy
And then Remy did
She did everything from the hell
Like Cassidy, hug
Everything
But the beat
Scott Storz played that shit
Yeah, I was like
I was all I need that for Remy
That shit is crazy
And so that's how I go
Like you knew this last joint
You knew that was a hit
For sure for sure
Who did, I ain't back
Who could do is Lane
Scott Storge
That nigga's Storchman.
I thought I was scared to write to that shit
for like a whole month.
That's up knocking and beating this.
This shit is so knocking.
I was scared to write.
I was driving around.
I'm driving around town.
Just listening to the instrumental
through the whole New York, Brooklyn, Brock.
No, the problem I had was a problem
that most artists get.
When you get a hit record,
you think that's your lane.
So my only hit record before that
that was really a hit was what's loved.
So I'm listening to lean back,
even though this shit is dumb, hardcore.
And I keep thinking,
I'm gonna flip it for girls.
I'm gonna flip it for girls.
And one night, I remember,
I never forget, I was in 42nd Street,
the West Side Highway, whatever that is.
And man, I just said,
fuck it, I'm going street on this bitch.
I'm going hardcore,
and it was the best decision I made in my life.
You could imagine I was trying to turn a lean back
into a West Love,
I love you.
This is that,
yo,
that's what it was gonna be.
I was fighting that shit,
fighting the power
because the only end I had
that went number one
was love.
So I'm thinking,
yo,
they want me to make
girls songs
but the beat
was too knocking.
And then thank God,
I never forget
when I was just like,
I'm going hard,
body on there.
And the hook was like,
you know,
the hook,
you know,
a lot of artists
can make a hook.
That's the number,
yo,
there is layers.
to making hit records and all that.
Like a lot of artists,
they can be the number one rappers.
They can't make a hook.
So I take pride in, you know, in my crew, DITC.
Every time we work together, I'd be like,
yo, let me do the hook.
Like Method Man, right?
They use Method Man a lot, Wu Chang, for them hooks.
And I would be like, yo, I'm like the Method Man of the crew.
I'm going to make.
a hook, don't worry, I'm going to do it.
And so, you know, but I've noticed by working with so many different artists that that's
probably the hardest shit to do is make a hook on, that's the hit.
You know, that lean back came like that, that hook came like water.
Can I tell you my friends at Hard Rock Bet?

Hey, it's us, the Jonas brothers, and guess what?
We have some big news.
What's the news, new?
Huge news.
We created our own podcast called, Hey, Jonas.
We invented a podcast?
Well, we didn't invent it.
We just contributed to it.
We're the first people to do podcasts.
Pretty, yeah, pretty wide range of podcasts throughout there.
But this one's extra special.
So how did we actually come up with a name, Hey Jonas, guys?
I honestly don't remember.
I think it was on a call about what we should call it.
Well, we were thinking I'm originally calling it one of the early names of our band.
Before Jonas Brothers was...
This is how you guys remember it going down?
Yes.
I have a very different memory of this.
We were talking about a thing, a bit for the podcast,
where people could call in and say, hey Jonas,
and then I wrote down on my little notepad,
Hey Jonas, and offered it up as a potential title for the podcast.
But thanks for remembering that, guys.

SNL's Mikey Day and head writer Streeter Seidel
help an a cappella band with their between songs banter.
Where does your group perform?
We do some retirement homes.
Those people are starving for banter.

Keto free.
I'm not on the carbs.
I haven't been eating no carbs.
No rice, no potato, no pasta.
You could just...
No bread.
You could just...
Yeah, you just don't eat the bread.
You know what I ate yesterday.
I ate spaghetti squash.
Nah, spaghetti.

My sugar ain't going on.
He gave me mixed emotions.
He just had a glissie at NASCAR.
That's a different exception.
There ain't no keto parted.
They ain't no pleasure even.
No, no, no.
You see how I look.
I go to the doctor tomorrow.
You're looking good.
They take my blood.
I'm definitely like about 30 something.
3228 or something.
Oh, you come.

We're going to get steak and lobster.
For sure, you deserve that.
I'll put the 12 back.
I'm going to put the 12 back.
You know what?
Hey, man, you fat.
Joe, the third eight.
Let me tell you.
I'm going to get a steak.
I've been diabetic since I'm 14.
Yeah.
They got the shit of patch.
Now, I'm real disciplined in everything in life.
I'm really disciplined.
I was always scared to get the patch
because the patch will tell you
give your sugar high and low
because I knew I'm fucked.
Once I get this,
I'm not gonna cheat.
Like, if I didn't have the patch,
I would sit down with you
and the garlic brand
and the fuck it up.
Who gives the fuck?
But me then I got the past.
The patch's going to be, me, me, me, me, me, me, me.
Yeah.

It's a real deal. It's oxtail.
I ate oxtail. I ate
not collard greens, some other kind of greens.
Who gives a fuck? My shit went sky high
with no rice, no potato, no bread, no nothing.
Caladulu?
Huh? You ate Caladalu.
Yeah. That's what it is.
me up.
So, you know, you've got to think about it.
You got to think about it.
When you go outside to a restaurant to eat, there's ways to cheat.
I'll just tell you I eat.
I make a mean scramble eggs with some extra butter or butter or butter.
You need extra butter.
But let me just think.
You know, what you think they do when you go to the pizza shop and you say this shit good?
They sprinkle sugar on that sauce.
People cheat.
Like, when you go to these restaurants, they cheat for that extra.
They're not doing what you doing.
You're making it.
What you say.
You're making it not.
Restaurants cheap.
Like they throw extra shit on it that we addicted to that we'll love.
Say you ever been a pizza shop where the pizza is incredible but it's sweet.
No, hell not.
I'm telling you, they did shit.
Sweet pizza.
I'm telling you, well, the Jamaica spot, I've been eating keto.
Just so you could understand.
For three months, the alarm ain't go off.

It was too dope
Oh oh

I didn't smoke
I didn't blow
Smoke. I'm sorry.
I didn't smoke.
I didn't blow.
They don't care.
You know, it's red when I catch him.
But I hear this in a lot.
Oh, shit.
With a flag.
Got him.
Got him.
You know, Houston's what they did to me.
I went in Atlanta.
I don't eat that.
You don't eat that?
It's smart.
No, I went to Atlanta, and they fronted on me,
and they was looking at what's crazy is,
it was the black people working.
It was fronting on me.
So, damn.
No, I'm just.
you the truth.
It was the craziest shit.
So I'm sitting there, I'm like, huh?
They're like, oh, well, you know,
no reservations, no this and this.
They keep better than everybody.
Man, they got...
They did that.
They did the black cop, black cop, black cop, black car.
Yeah.
You're killing all your...
Yeah, yeah.
Then I went up in there, I couldn't believe it.
Then this guy runs from the thing that the manager.
Yeah.
Hey, Joe, why are you?
White dude.
No, you're from Miami.
You come inside.
How many of you are?
Four or five?
Not a problem.
I'm like, yo, what kind of shit is this?
I call that reverse racist.
Reverse.
What's crazy as I sat down and everybody was like,
yo, this is when I went around.
Because you know, some shit happened to me, I talk a lot.
So I start telling everybody.
Yeah.
I go, yo, you should, shit.
They be like, yo, we don't fuck with it.
We know what it is.
Yeah.
That shit like that all the time.
Apparently, it's like that.
I ain't going back.
I'm good off that shit.
You're not going back to the spinach dip?
No.
Or the shrimp cocktail.
I got to go to the SDK.
I'll tell you some crazy shit.
I used to go to this Italian restaurant at South Beach.
It was the best Italian restaurant on South Beach.
This nigga was dead.
Nice.
It was incredible.
I put J-Lo on.
I put people, it was quiet.
You don't.
No, no.
Listen to what I'm saying.
I'm talking about Italian wrestling.
You got to fucking around.
Yeah, the car.
They got their power.
Oh, no, no.
I'm talking about back in the day,
but let me tell you.
You're going to end up back in.
One day I took my man,
and I'm going to say his name.
I took my man.
Who?
My man, Stan.
Oh, I.
You know, Stan from my age.
Yeah, it's my nigga.
So Stan, I take them in there.
We eat whatever the owner says,
hi, this snack.
Stan goes back.
And they did some racist shit to him.
But they didn't let him in.
They skipped and everybody in.
You know what's going on, right?
So Stan comes back.
He says,
yo, you know, your restaurant over there,
man, they handled me wrong.
They did me.
I said, I'll never step foot in that bitch again.
Fuck that place.
About a month later, I couldn't help it.
I went back for the...
I went back for a foot.
I'm going to get a full buck.
I walked back up in that stick for that penny with them peas.
And I had that mint to him like a year later.
I said, you know, the boycott.
You know, I stopped.
You know, I was over.
That food was too good, be?
That shit was legendary.
stand wrong.
Yo!
I couldn't hold my end
of the bargain.
How important is family.
Kids.
It's the most important thing.
Family in general.
It's the most important thing.
I see you've got your son
to hell with you.
You know what I'm saying?
But that's my favorite
thing to do.
You know what I'm saying?
Be my kids, father.
You know what I'm saying?
I hold it down for my
my nieces and my nephew.
And then my kids,
they turn, man, they...
Yeah, they're the truth.
I ain't, I ain't nothing.
I ain't fucking with them.
They know who you
They know.
They know.
They know.
No, no.
Let me say.
Remy's daughter went to 10,000 arenas with us and didn't know who he was, even though we were performing.
They don't know their little kids.
Yeah.
They don't know the difference.
I think it finally kicked in.
She'd be like telling Remy like, Papa, that's his song.
Right.
She's a hit me with a video one day, Lena.
She had no fucking clue.
She's on stage with us.
Hey, bring her out and everything.
Golden Chin.
They know who you in.
Nah, for sure.
For sure.
My father of the baby.
Rap, you fucking around,
I think they wrote it.
How about your parents?
Yeah, Mom, Dukes.
My pop's past 2019.
Mom, Duce, though.
She's living it up.
She's living in a lot.
She's poor.
She's poor.
She's bored.
In the muffing, yeah, I just bought 40 acres,
so I'm about to.
Oh!
Make some noise for that.
That's doing shit.
Forty.
Ares.
Yeah.
Listen, if we buy a crack house here, it's five million.
This shit ain't no compounds out here.
I don't get a fuck.
Who you was?
I don't know.
Nobody with no acre in New York.
No, ain't nobody got no acre in New York.
It's smoke.
You said eggs.
Fucking crack house is.
A crack house out here.
Trap houses.
Of course, you're a million dollars.
You can't get shit out here.
They be like, we think you blew up.
You got a one-in-one.
You know, one bag of one bath.
We're like, that's living a life.
Yeah, even the hotel rooms, them bitches be about.
Dead small, right?
10 square feet, them bitches be.
But in North Carolina, you can get acres, right?
I walked in that bitch, right?
I walked in that bitch, tripped over the bed.
Yeah.
It was right in front of the door.
And if you want some room,
and if you want some room, you've got the fucking man.
Where'd be back at you?
Oh, man, you're 2700 a night.
That might be the biggest, biggest flex.
You walk in somebody in hotel room in New York,
and they got a little room?
And their suitcase can fit on the floor.
That right, yeah, they shit, you can open it up or whatever.
That shit, man, these motherfucking, you know you pay it.
If you got some room?
I brought to see him one time in the, in the hotel.
He had some big shit.
He had the penthouse suite.
He said you had him fucked up.
No, no, no, no.
You always been my item, you know what I'm saying?
No, I'm saying you had him fucked up like he got the big room.
And the man had the big shit.
The park hotel, the park shit.
It was over Central Park.
I don't even want to sit.
It's the Trump Hotel.
But back in the days,
but the shit,
he had shit overlooking the whole Central Park
and I was just sitting there
and was like,
damn, that ain't Heavy Dee.
Heavy Dee living a life,
you know what I'm saying?
That's what I'm about,
living the life.
You know, life too short.
No, I'm telling you.
No, that's a fact.
I do know that.
I do know that.
I went to a funeral the other day.
I went to a funeral the other day.
Shout out the power for Wu-Tang.
I pulled up.
And it made me realize, I mean, I lost my mom, my father.
I don't want to make this depressing.
I lost my mom, my father, and my brother same year last year.
I've been through some shit.
I've never been a funeral and made me realize, like,
yo, life is short, like powers.
I'm sitting there, seeing all the guys I came in the industry with,
everybody looking old, just everybody looking old.
Like, everybody I came in the game with, I'm sitting there,
I'm looking, they're like,
yo, you know, once you get diagnosed, this,
it just made me realize
like this shit could be super over.
So we might as well just blow the bag faster.
And just spend that shit.
Spend that shit.
Just have your fun, spend that shit.
Make sure the kids good.
They got 40 acres.
Yeah.
Pay that bitch off if you could.
They'll have, yo, my thing is this.
Yo, if we leave you some shit,
we ain't get shit.
Nothing.
We're in the South Brown.
The projects across.
the street.
We didn't have shit.
If we give you something,
we got to do something.
Perhaps,
perhaps something for the nose.
You got to make that.
No, no, I'm just saying,
like, now it's on you.
Yo, I tell my family all the time.
I tell them all the time.
You know, if something happens to me,
they're going to give you some money.
It's a fact.
They're going to give you some money.
If you blow that shit like Fat Joe
still,
here right now, that's on you.
If you want to be the laughing stop.
Yo, Fat Joe died, we got to sell a mansion.
We got to go in the flyest townhouse ever, million-dollar townhouse.
We don't need no shit 10 million.
You're not performing.
You're not doing none of that shit.
Yeah, you can't make no money.
Fat yo could go on the weekend.
You would go on the weekend.
You would go on the weekend.
Come back with the bag.
You're good.
Fat, you're not in them.
So there's no reason for you to be sitting in a $10 million
dollar mansion
and the $1.000.
Tell that, bitch.
Get your PC off that too
besides the money you got
downside.
Live nice.
The flyest townhouse
you ever see.
Get an elevator.
Get marble all over.
But it's a million dollars.
You got to start a lot.
That's how nice.
No.
Sound phenomenal.
Yeah.
Because guess what?
Nobody gave me a croissant.
Come on.
Manfucker, give me something.
I heard about when you robbed that whole gym, nigga.
I did, though.
I did, baby.
That's why I like you because you're a real one.
You know what time of this.
You said, Joe, the whole gym, and they helped me with the Walkmans in the Jackson.
Yeah.
You tell you something.
I stuck up this kid one time.
Come on, don't get him.
Terrible.
Right around.
Right around here.
Let me tell you something.
I'll tell you a funny story.
Your kiss, you stop me if I said it before.
I'm not going to stop you.
So I'm robbing everybody.
It's a different.
I don't know what you're going to say.
I don't trust nobody.
When I go home, I go different way.
When I this and this and that,
I do everything because I know I robbed everything.
I know what this is.
Yeah.
From every level to this day,
it's going to be very hard for you to rob me to this day
because I've seen everything coming.
You got to be AI some shit to get me, right?
So I go like this.
I'm robbing everybody.
I can't even fit this stuff.
There's no fly fat.
Can't even sit.
No.
You're not understanding.
I'm sticking people up just for the sport.
He was the first thing of that,
rob shit and get a tail.
It wasn't no tailors.
It was very hard.
One of my wife's biggest jokes is fat nigger
with the discus t-shirt.
There was nothing fly for fat niggas.
There was no gear.
It just didn't exist.
So I would rob guys and then give it to my man.
They were skinny.
My man Stacy from across the street,
he caught three bodies right across the street.
Yeah.
He's been up there for Africa.
Cops beat him up so many times.
He got steel in his chest.
I'm not bullshit.
My man told Montana,
so I was sticking a nigga up and give it to my man's
because I can't even fit the shit.
One day a fat dude walks in his school.
He got that chocolate, Shirley.
Got to have it.
That shit is a idiot.
Like, yo, my man, you're my man.
Come up off the shit.
Now.
At the school.
In this one hot second,
it was his first day in school.
Now, yo my man, run that.
In the hallway and a class.
Nothing to talk about.
You know, my nigga, come off the shit now.
Now!
I throw this shit on, but check this out.
I always tell a story.
They call me the best storyteller.
That's only part of one.
I go back to the block.
I got to choke Miss Shirley.
I'm telling you I was a bum.
Right?
I got to choke the shirt.
I finally stole something for me.
Yeah.
I'm upstairs.
I heard a car go.
I heard another one go.
Another one go
Another one go
Like 10 to earth
My man Opie Megatron
Come out the car
I can't
I'm up stand
Yo Joe
I look out the window
It's about a honey
A grown men gangston Nick
This niggas
Oh he was somebody
His brother was the biggest
nigga in the universe
So Opie calls me
Opie must have been like
I know him chill
Please this he's a kid
This this
Joe
Yo, what up?
From out the window and shit
Yeah, yeah, from the projects
Yo, come down
Yo, and bring the Shirley
The one victory
I ever had
I come down with the Charlotte
You handed that motherfucker over
What?
Nicker was like, yo
He said, that's my little brother
Who's a drug dealer
from out here?
The biggest
he said, yo, he got killed, too.
But he said, this is my brother from now on,
you make sure he's good.
I said, no problem.
His brother would walk past me
with a little smirk in the school and all.
Like, this nigga know what time it is.
Like, he know what it is.
But, you know, it's the one time I had
with something that fit me.
That's fucked up, man.
I couldn't get it all.
He had an hour with the brown,
with the chocolate show.
Good hour.
Hey, it's us, the Jonas brothers.
And guess what?
We have some big news.
What's the news,
huge news?
We created.
our own podcast called Hey Jonas.
We invented a podcast?
Well, we didn't invent it.
We just contributed to it.
We're the first people to do podcasts.
Pretty, yeah, pretty wide range of podcasts.
We're starting a trend.
But this one's extra special.
So how do we actually come up with a name Hey Jonas, guys?
I honestly don't remember.
I think it was on a call about what we should call it.
Oh, we were thinking I'm originally calling it one of the early names of our band.
Before Jonas Brothers was.
This is how you guys remember it going down?
Yes.
I have a very different memory of this.
We were talking about a thing, a bit for the podcast,
people could call in and say, Hey, Jonas.
And then I wrote down on my little notepad, Hey Jonas,
and offered it up as a potential title for the podcast.
But thanks for remembering that, guys.

And on the Renee Stubbs tennis podcast, I'm breaking down everything happening at Roll and
Geras, every match, every upset, and what it really takes to win on Clay.
Jen she went.
I mean, she went down in three to Rabakina, but I'm delighted.
She's an outsider to win the French for me.
And she likes Clay.

win on any surface, because if she's serving, well, good luck.

The fucked up shit in life is when you go through the struggle.
And you're like, why I'm beat?
Why God?
Why I got to go through this?
And shit is fucked up.
And other niggas is flying.
And their parents can get them shit and this and this and that.
And then once you get it, you realize that the journey was worth everything.
100%.
The niggas used to be spoiled in high school.
Oh, they finish.
But that's not what I'm saying.
What I am saying is,
it's like you appreciate it so much.
You know what I mean?
That's what I meant by when I asked you,
how does it feel to have a hit right now
after all the shit you went through?
You know, you could sit back and look.
You know, me, they took all my money.
Yeah.
They took all my money.
I went to jail for taxes.
They took millions of dollars.
So-called rich for a good 10, 15 years.
Private planes.
whileing out, kept looking at the bank account,
shit saying two, three, five million.
I'm good to me.
Right.
Man, they took all that shit.
Right.
And let me tell you something,
motherfuckers wasn't coming to see me.
Nobody helped me.
Nobody gave me a dollar.
Nobody did nothing.
Everybody thought it was over, this, this.
So it was beyond the learning experience
so that when all the way up came out
and the shit blew,
I knew how to act with niggas
and I knew what it was
but let me tell you something
it happened to me three times in my life
I was very successful
number one
then I fell
then I became number one
then I fell the third time
and let me tell you something
in this hood
I used to drive around
with 29 dudes following me
and they all had the same truck
paid for cash
every single night steak and lobster
every single night moat
every single night
like I was treating these dudes
It's like, you know,
motherfuckers get locked up.
They'd be like, yeah, $50,000.
We want them out!
Right.
I'd be in the middle of the Bronx court making a movie.
We want them out now!
Yeah.
I got my man Ira to Bell Bonds with me.
Get them out?
Right.
You know, to only find out
none of the niggas was loyal you.
Right?
And then I put out all the way up,
me and Remy, they give us,
they say, yo, come.
They had a number one club out here, Aces.
And they said,
you do the single release.
We go there.
The fucking club is on tilt.
Everybody you name is in that motherfucker.
It's just rampacked.
The walls are sweaty.
The mirrors were sweaty, right?
So I'm up in there with Remy,
and I get to my section.
There's a hundred dudes in there.
Already there.
God, we made it.
My brother, we made it.
Oh, shit.
Chief Fores again.
Yo, this, this, that.
So I turn around.
I perform
I'm walking out the door
the lights is on
right
I turn around
and I go
you
you
you
you
who you
who you
him too
all the niggas
with me
I never want to see
you niggas
again in my life
you said it like that
like that
never in my life
come around
me again.
Gregory said,
yo, you heard that?
What?
I couldn't have the
the nerve of dudes.
Right?
Yeah.
You don't call a dude
The dude went to jail.
You didn't write him a letter.
You didn't say sorry.
You didn't care.
You didn't bring me an ice cream.
You ain't do nothing.
I put out a miracle.
That all the way up was a fucking miracle.
And you're going to be sitting
in the set.
Thinking like it's forgiveness?
Yeah.
They never hung out with me again in my life.
All the way up.
They were all the way up.
Yeah, the new album, what's the name of it?
Be more grateful.
Why?
Be more grateful with the Be More Grateful, so.
Make sure you get your tickets.
Make sure you tap in with a real one.
Come on, man.
You know what I'm saying?
Baby, who you got on the album?
I went light on the feces.
I got my daughter.
Fire.
It's my favorite feature on the song with my daughter.
I got Hancho, Cholet
and another name, he can get nothing but baby.
Oh, doubt.
Another baby, there's side of them.
I like Corlaree.
Not for sure.
Honcho.
Yeah, nice.

Everybody go out there, get that album.
Go to the show.
Be more grateful.
The flavor's title I heard in a long time.
Come on.
That's why I met with it.
Be more grateful.
You knicks need to be more grateful.
Everybody need to be more grateful.
You like that's how I feel to have a good record right now.
I feel grateful.

What?
It must feel like a miracle.
Come on now.
I'm grateful.
You got that number one joint.
You don't want to...
Pop that.
You seen everything I...
You went through the shit too.
100%.
And you turned around and you were surprised.
You was like, oh, I thought everybody was like...
Come on now.
Family.
I thought everybody was 100.
I thought everybody was this and that.
Crazy is you probably had a friend that was still putting hits out the park.
They could have just threw you a verse.
It gets you where you need to be.
You're like, damn, they're not coming.
Am I lying or not?
Throw a dog of bone or something.
Something.
Listen, this ain't that.
Piece of bread with some garlic butterbrushed on it.
Garlic butterbrush.
They don't know about that garlic butterbrush.
We're going to play.

What speaker?
That speaker.
