Starting point is 00:02:52 We are absolutely packed today on Wednesday. Great show planned. Joy Taylor is joining me. Joy, how are you? I'm great. Good morning. Good morning. We'll get to Carson Went's story.
Starting point is 00:03:01 We'll join a little bit in the Hurdline news. Carson Wentz out for the year. He was hurt anyway. Philadelphia has not had their act together all season. We'll get to that. I don't think it's going to affect anything. Carson Wentz like Andrew Luck is amazing. Kind of has a lost season. He'll be back and be great. But this to me is the story of the day. I don't believe in coincidences. Things happen for a reason. Kevin Durant for the second time in a couple of weeks has taken a shot at LeBron James. Remember a couple of weeks ago when he said playing with LeBron is toxic? It's never been toxic playing with. with LeBron is getting to the finals toxic? Because LeBron's been to eight straight finals. Is that toxic? And then yesterday, Kevin Durant talks about the greatest players of all time. He mentions Michael Jordan, Kobe Bryant, and Kyrie Irving. What?
Starting point is 00:03:56 Kyrie Irving, you put in with Kobe and Michael. No mention to LeBron. He puts in Kyrie, who dumped LeBron. Now, come on now. Bro, you can't name the five great restaurants in America and then just throw apple bees in there and think I'm not not notice it. You got an agenda. You got a bias. You can't start talking about the great quarterbacks of all time and say, Brady and Montana and Elway and Marino and Aikman and Jimmy Garoppolo.
Starting point is 00:04:25 Do you owe him a favor? Kevin Durant, you did this for a reason. because you know the MJ thing kind of gets in LeBron's head and Kyrie tick LeBron off and a lot of people Kobe fans don't like LeBron you did this for a reason this was not a coincidence
Starting point is 00:04:48 you just can't throw Kyrie Irving into your all-time great players and want me to believe it was just organic and you didn't think about it I mean that reference is laughable the Celtics almost won the East last year after Kyrie Irving got hurt. What happens when LeBron leaves teams?
Starting point is 00:05:07 By the way, Kyrie Irving, before LeBron got to Cleveland, was winning 30 games a year, was constantly hurt, and had a reputation as an uncoachable diva. You can't throw Kyrie Irving into your ad-libbed greatest players of all time, and we all know why you're doing this.
Starting point is 00:05:26 We know Kevin Durant why you're doing this, because you thought, as the number two player in the world when you went to Golden State and started winning titles that would elevate you over LeBron. And it hasn't. LeBron still is the lead story on my show and Skip Show
Starting point is 00:05:44 and any debate show in America that talks NBA, LeBron's still the king. And you're just really talented. That's your identity. You're not even the most important guy in your own team. We know that through statistics, wins and losses, and analytics. When Steph's gone, warriors are average.
Starting point is 00:06:03 When you're gone, they're still great. They won 73 games set a record without you. They won a championship without you. You could leave tomorrow. They'd put in Boogie Cousins. I'd have Steph, Clay, Draymond Boogie Cousins. They'd still win the NBA championship. And this bothers Kevin Durant.
Starting point is 00:06:19 He's a very sensitive guy, and he thought going to Golden State would elevate him above LeBron, and it hasn't. And he's bothered that he still always has to. watch these shows and watch the NBA, and everybody talked about LeBron more than KD. Listen, I've said this for years. Magic and Bird saved the NBA. MJ made it global, and LeBron made it mobile. When you left teams years ago, you were considered disloyal, weak. Now, if you don't go to a better team, you're a money grabber.
Starting point is 00:06:57 Winning doesn't matter. You're a diva. you're weak, you're afraid. Kevin Durant doesn't leave Oklahoma City unless LeBron left first from Miami and took all the arrows and took all the heat. LeBron's always going to be a bigger deal than Kevin Durant. Kevin's chasing ghosts.
Starting point is 00:07:20 Magic Bird saved it. Michael met it Global. And LeBron made the league mobile. And what really bothers Kevin Durant is that his number one adversary, LeBron has a much greater legacy, and his teammate, Steph Curry, has a much greater impact as well. LeBron made the league mobile, and Steph changed the way we play it. And Kevin Durant, he's just really talented.
Starting point is 00:07:49 There's nothing wrong with that. He is super talented. But we know a couple of things about Durant, one of them being, he's sensitive. He got rabbit ears. He and Aaron Rogers hear everything. The difference is Aaron denies he hears everything. Kevin Durant's pretty up front about
Starting point is 00:08:07 hearing everything. But when LeMron moved to the Lakers, he once again is the most talked about player in the league. And it drives Durant nuts. He'll never be better than LeBron. He'll
Starting point is 00:08:23 never be as relevant as LeBron. He'll never be talked about like LeBron. LeBron leaves teams they disintegrate. Kevin Durant left Oklahoma City. They're the second best team in the West right now. Golden State. One before him.
Starting point is 00:08:39 If he left, they put boogie in. They'd win after him. It's bothering him. First, LeBron was toxic. Now you're mentioning great players, and you're putting Kyrie in there? Come on, Kevin. It bothers you.
Starting point is 00:08:56 Just admit it. Let me shift to football. I should send a check to the Pittsburgh Steelers every year, a big check, because they fill like five, six segments a week. ESPN once had to do a year-long investigation into New England to get dirt. Pittsburgh gives you dirt about twice a week. They did it again yesterday. When New England lost to Miami over the weekend,
Starting point is 00:09:24 and it was kind of like controversial, it was embarrassing. Gronk took the heat, my fault. Brady took the heat, my fault. Belichick took the heat, my fault. The story died. For the third time in about four weeks, the Pittsburgh Steelers, it is now Wednesday, are talking about a previous game lost to Oakland as the Patriot game is now coming up in a few days. Mike Tomlin yesterday, I swear to God I should pay the Steelers for all the segments they give me.
Starting point is 00:09:57 I don't even have to work for them. I just wake up and they give me another story. Mike Tomlin, paying attention in the rear view mirror to the game they just lost, was asked about Big Ben being healthy and not playing, and he got into medical equipment. Because of the lack of information, we thought that the best thing to do, the most prudent thing to do, would be only to make Ben available an emergency-like situation
Starting point is 00:10:22 was exactly what we did in Cincinnati several years ago. The X-ray was not clearly redone. Can you clarify when you said after the game that you could have brought Ben back a few series earlier, but you said today that you're only going to use an emergency situations? Is that saying he was cleared a few series earlier and you decided only to use him in emergency situations? Again, guys, you know, we didn't have a lot of information, so dialogue was a part of the discussion. But obviously this thing has had legs and it has grown and we want to minimize the senseless distractions. so I'm being very transparent with you in terms of what transpired, how, and why.
Starting point is 00:11:02 It's Wednesday. The game was three days ago. Tim Ben's columnist in Pittsburgh said, I walked into Mike Tomlin's news conference seeking clarity. For the most part, I walked out confused. You're still, for about the fourth time this year, talking about a game that's over and not focusing in on the biggest game of of the year.
Starting point is 00:11:28 Football's hard. Distractions make it harder. The Steelers once again lead the NFL in distractions. I should give Big Ben and Mike Tomlin producer credits for this show. Does Pittsburgh realize that if they lose this weekend in New England and they will, they'll be seven, six, and one, and probably not in first place, and facing the Saints in New Orleans next. It's Wednesday.
Starting point is 00:11:52 Bill Belichick was once asked about a medical situation. situation. Here's how he handled it. I'm a football coach. I'm not a doctor. The medical staff is the medical staff. I coach the team. Medical people handle the injuries. They don't call plays. I don't do surgery. We have a great deal there. It works out good. New England buries the loss, buries the evidence, puts a wet blanket on the fire. It's Wednesday. And the Steelers. are still talking about medical equipment, big Ben, an ugly loss.
Starting point is 00:12:33 I mean, they got rid of Lavian Bell, and they thought all the noise would go away. I was told from a source I trust that they got rid of Levian Bell, and the reason was he was too noisy, it's too distracting. Levian left, it's gotten worse. I mean, this is why New England is going to beat Pittsburgh Sunday. This is why Baltimore Ravens are chasing him. don't hear a peep. Baltimore's got a quarterback situation.
Starting point is 00:13:00 Flacco starts. Now it's Lamar. Flackos benched. Lamar's not a peep. You could argue Baltimore's got a major controversy on their hands. Not a peep. John Harbaugh came out. Yeah, Flacco's on the bench now.
Starting point is 00:13:14 Lamar starts. Nothing leaks. Handle it quick, done, game up. New England loses. A mess. My fault, my fault. My fault. Story over.
Starting point is 00:13:25 Pittsburgh. I mean, God, it's like ER. I mean, it's like one of those medical shows. Football coaches don't talk medical equipment. All right. A lot of stuff today. Nick Wright, Albert Breer, Rob Parker, Stephen Jackson. Carson Wentz out for the year.
Starting point is 00:13:48 I think it's like Andrew Luck. I think Carson Wentz will be back. I think it'll be amazing. I think the Philadelphia Eagles next year will be favored to win their division. I think it's just, listen, Tom Brady had a lost season. Michael Jordan broke a leg at a lost season. Andrew Luck had a lost season and a half. Carson Wentz has a lost season.
Starting point is 00:14:04 It happens. Great players break a leg, get hurt, have a surgery. It's fine. Carson Wentz is great, and they'll be great next year. Coming up next, an interesting way the Dallas Cowboys can pay DAC and maybe, ideally, get a little. bit of a break. A little psychological game playing by Jerry Jones.
Starting point is 00:14:30 That's coming up next. The holidays are close, really close. And if you're behind on your holiday shopping, you're probably starting to panic. But don't worry. There's still time to get last minute presents that don't seem like last minute presents because of Hellsburg Diamonds. You can make one stop for two great gifts. Spend $1,199 on jewelry for her and get a free Nintendo Switch.
Starting point is 00:14:54 system for them as well. That's gifts that give gifts at Helsburg Diamonds. Games sold separately. Try Vic Synex nasal spray. Up to 12 hours. Uses directed. Congestion strikes. All of us. My daughter's yesterday, congestion. Vic Sinai's nasal spray. The puppy out of there. Good to have you in. A real big story, the biggest game of the NFL this weekend feels like to me the Cowboys in the Indianapolis Colts. Dallas wins. They can they could potentially secure the number three seat over Chicago. What Dallas doesn't want to do in the playoffs is go to New Orleans. Every place else, Dallas is fine.
Starting point is 00:15:31 With that defense and that running game and Amari Cooper, Dallas can win everywhere. They're not going to go to New Orleans, especially after they beat the Saints and beat them again. That's what Dallas doesn't want. So this game this weekend between Dallas and the Colts is huge, and the Colts are red hot. And by the way, the Colts are favored. So that tells you the Indies are real team at home playing great defense and they have Andrew luck.
Starting point is 00:15:52 So the big story with the Cowboys is fairly obvious. We've talked about this. Dak's going to be a cowboy. His intangibles are unbelievable A plus. His talent's closer to C plus. Sort of the opposite of Cam Newton, you know. Cam's got A plus talent, but his intangibles are C plus. He's moody, hot and cold.
Starting point is 00:16:09 Anyway, with Dak, Dax in, okay? Like him or not? Dax in. Jerry likes him. What do you got to pay him? What do you got to pay him? You don't want to pay him $28 million.
Starting point is 00:16:22 Okay, let me show you a chart. The most guaranteed money for quarterbacks in the NFL. Here's the top 16. One leads the division, now barely, Big Ben. Of the top 15 quarterbacks in the NFL, most guaranteed money, none lead their division. Paying the quarterback a ton, it's not where Dallas wants to go. And cowboy fans had to be throwing up in their mouth a little yesterday when Peter King came on the show and talked about Dax contract. Now the question is, do you pay Dac Prescott $29 million a year?
Starting point is 00:16:57 And, you know, at some point, at some point, Colin, if you're committing to a guy, you've got to pay him the market rate for what quarterbacks make. And that seems totally absurd. I get it. But you may have to pay the going rate. 29 million a year. Again, top 15 paid, guaranteed money quarterbacks in the NFL, none lead their division. You got to go to 16 and Big Ben and he's hanging on by a threat over Baltimore.
Starting point is 00:17:23 You can't blame Dak for expecting that, and he's technically earned it. Okay, so here's the key. This is a great negotiating ploy. I have seen companies do this. I've been in 12 contract negotiations in my life. So Trent Dilfer and Michael Irvin have both been on my show this week. So Trent Dilfer's theory on what to do with Dak is let's wait. Here it is.
Starting point is 00:17:51 Well, we got another year to figure it out. I would personally internally want to see him do something special on a playoff run. I still think you need to be having conversations with his agent right now saying if you think you're going to break the bank, you're not going to. We'll start looking into the draft. We'll start looking at different options because we're not going to do it. Say the Vikings did because right now when you overpay for a quarterback,
Starting point is 00:18:14 you're affecting four to six other guys that should be getting rewarded for their efforts and they're really not. That's very dangerous. Is Dallas playing well right now? Mm-hmm. Is Dallas going to have a home playoff game? Mm-hmm. Is Dallas going to win their division for the second time in three years?
Starting point is 00:18:36 Mm-hmm. Is most of this cowboy team defense getting better, not older? Mm-hmm. Waiting on DAC is not a good bet. young people who have never made great money, it's very hard for them to pass on it. Rich old guys who have been in a million negotiations, who have 100 million in the bank, nah, I'll wait, I'll wait, bro. But Jerry Jones, remember, Dax still is on his rookie contract for another year, making 700 Gs.
Starting point is 00:19:17 That's it. Jerry Jones comes to him and says, I'll make you deal. You want a house that looks like mine, not your condo? I'll give you $23 million today. Or you can wait for a year and maybe get $28. Almost always young people will take the money now. That's what Michael Irvin suggested two days ago on my show. It's just about, hey, you're the next.
Starting point is 00:19:48 guy up, you get to be the highest paid. It doesn't matter in any other, like it does in every other position. So now you got to go to DAC before he becomes up and give him somewhere, give him a great number that's good for both sides. I have watched companies for years. Go to employees and tantalize him with this. We'll pay you early. Now we won't give you the big number, but how would you like a mansion today?
Starting point is 00:20:18 a boat today, and a Lambo today, and new suits today, and generational wealth today. Very hard to pass up. Be very careful about waiting on DAC because, A, Jerry's already made a call. We're keeping him. Jerry's already made that decision. And ask yourself, is that defense for the Cowboys old and getting worse? No, it's young and getting better. Are the Cowboys eroding as a franchise?
Starting point is 00:20:45 No, they're growing as a franchise. Is Dax suddenly going to get worse over time? Now the chances are with more experience, he'll get better. Are pieces over the next 24 months, 12 months leaving. No, Amari Cooper, Zieg, Tyron Smith, Banderresh, Jalen Smith, DeMarcus Lawrence, they're all going to be here next year. I think you've got to go to Dack early.
Starting point is 00:21:08 I think you have to go to him and say, listen. I mean, Dax admitted, didn't have a perfect life. Pam 23 now, not 29 in a year. I think that's the negotiating ploy. I really think it. You wait on DAC. Look at this Cowboy team. They're going to host a playoff game.
Starting point is 00:21:30 There's a very good chance they're hosting a playoff game. They could be hosting Minnesota. Who do you trust? Kirk Cousins prime time against a Cowboys defense? I'll take Dallas. Aaron Rogers sneaks in. On the road again, I'll take Dallas. The only team I don't like matching up with Dallas is New Orleans there.
Starting point is 00:21:50 and if they win this weekend, Chicago's got a tough game against Green Bay. They don't have to go there. I'd just be very careful about waiting to pay DAC. Joy Taylor with the news. No, no, no, no, no. Turn on the news. This is the herd line news. All right, we've got a little bit of news, Colin.
Starting point is 00:22:09 The Eagles will likely be taking the field on Sunday without Carson Wentz. According to a report from NFL networks, Ian Rappaport, Wence is dealing with a back issue and is not expected. to play this weekend. Yeah, why risk it? Yeah, well, according to him, the news could get worse for Eagles fans because given the team's current standing in the playoff race,
Starting point is 00:22:28 a loss for the weekend could spur the team to sit once for the rest of the season in order to get healthy for next year. So that means they have the Rams this weekend, obviously, then the Texans, and finally at Washington. By the way, that was one of my blazing five picks. Rams minus nine.
Starting point is 00:22:45 Philadelphia season's done. Much like Atlanta, you can tell when certain teams kind of packet in emotionally. I think Philadelphia with Wentz or Not was going to get smoke this weekend. It's a completely different feeling than last year, him getting injured last year. They were rolling.
Starting point is 00:22:59 They had energy. They were inspired and that seemed like a big blow and then Foles came in and did what he needed to do. We've seen this story. It was called Andrew Luck. They just decided last year. Remember they kept playing the media he's going to practice, he doesn't practice and all of a sudden joy we looked out and went, oh, the season's
Starting point is 00:23:16 over. Just get him off the field. Get him healthy. It's a loss. season. It happens to great athletes. Michael Jordan, Tom. No, no, no, no. One more, and he's injury from. No, no. 2015, the hairline rib fracture, 2016. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:23:30 For an ACL last year, and now he's having back issues. No, no, no. He is, he's got, same with Andrew Luck. Andrew Luck has another injury, and you start thinking about draft on another quarterback. Carson Wentz comes back, he's fine. But if Carson mid-season next year gets another injury, you got to think about drafts another quarterback. Quite the, well, obviously not something you planned on, but this, this, this,
Starting point is 00:23:49 this Eagle season coming off of last year is just colossal disappointment. Yesterday, the city of Oakland filed a lawsuit in federal court calling the Raiders impending move to Las Vegas illegal and demanding compensation for hundreds of millions of dollars in lawsuits. Speaking to ESPN,
Starting point is 00:24:05 owner of Mark Davis didn't have much to say. In fact, he only spared two words. He called the lawsuit meritless and malicious. My feeling is we're three and ten. We're still relevant. It's a legal issue. I'll let the attorney make any further comments. Now, the issue here is...
Starting point is 00:24:21 Where do they play? Where do they play? They don't have a place to play next year. So they're moving to Vegas in 2020. The Las Vegas Stadium is not going to be ready. What about Santa Clara with the Niners play? Well, that's one option. There's some issues there as well.
Starting point is 00:24:36 San Diego is an option, if you can believe that. Good hell. Reno and Glendale, Arizona. I'm telling you. So literally, we have no idea where they're going to play next year. The Chargers moved. the Rams moved and the Raiders moved and two of the three are absolute messes.
Starting point is 00:24:53 I'll say it again. San Diego was the best place for the Chargers. Oakland's the best place for the Raiders. Now, L.A. was a better spot than St. Louis just because the market's so big you need a team. But two of these three moves for the NFL have been a mess. Thank God the NFL needs the Rams to work because the other moves are a mess.
Starting point is 00:25:14 A mess. Well, I think the Rams will work long term. It takes a few years together. things sticking. I mean, the Rams were here before, so you already have that kind of, at least nostalgia established. But the Raiders situation is just, I mean, that's just bad. And it's, you know, it sinks to the city of Oakland. They're losing their teams. And finally, Kevin Durant now says he envisions getting a statue in the Bay Area, along with his teammates. KD. appeared on the posted up with Chris Haynes podcast and believed a three Pete would cement the dub's place
Starting point is 00:25:45 in history. I know for a fact that we'll all get our jerseys, we'll probably all get statues here in front of the Chase Center. We'll be very legends forever, meaning that people will recognize this team in this room forever in this area. Steve Kerr is going to be immortalized and will be a legend forever. Bob Myers as well and Joe Lake up. he's totally right by the way which is why I've never bought into Kevin Durant leaving Golden State
Starting point is 00:26:21 why would you do that I don't buy it I've said it before I'll believe it when I see it he is going to be if he stays and wins two more titles considered the best player on the greatest basketball team ever that's as good as his legacy can get he's never going to be LeBron
Starting point is 00:26:38 and he's never going to be as important and impactful as Steph Curry Five championships in the LeBron era. Oh God, LeBron's a way better player. Yeah, I mean, literally LeBron. Steve Kerr has to talk Kevin Durant have a ledge in the middle of series. People are not going to have, they're going to have an argument there. You can argue all I want about stuff.
Starting point is 00:26:59 But I mean, Tom Brady's the best quarterback. You can convince yourself Aaron Rogers is, but Tom Brady is. No, but Tom Brady has the championships. Duran is going to have the championships against LeBron. And LeBron's going to get another one and have four. and Duran will have like five, and LeBron will crush him in every statistical category and doesn't have to go on 37 podcasts a week.
Starting point is 00:27:20 Possibly. But he is right about this, at least. Yeah, no, he is. Joy with the news. Well, that's the news. And thanks for stopping by. The Heard Live News. And I want to go to Nick Wright on this.
Starting point is 00:27:32 Kevin Durant for the second time in two weeks has taken a shot at LeBron James, called him toxic, playing with LeBron's toxic. And then yesterday mentioned all these great players all time and put Kyrie in and not LeBron. So Nick Wright, first things first, be the Coward Global Satellite Network. Let's just talk about that. I mean, what did you make of Durant's comments?
Starting point is 00:27:50 I don't think they're a coincidence, Nick. I think he is deeply bothered that he moved to Golden State, won a bunch of titles, and people still don't put him above LeBron. That's my gut take. Well, there is obviously and definitely some insecurity factor as far as, what more do you want me to do? I won the finals. I won the finals with jump.
Starting point is 00:28:11 A jump shot over LeBron. I won the finals the next year with a jump shot in the exact same place. But as you just said, just objectively speaking, he's not better. People who know basketball know he's not better. But I also think, listen, saying Kobe's one of the two greatest players of all time is an absurdity. Kobe's as great as he was, not one of the two best players of his era. That's LeBron and Duncan. But that's neither here nor there.
Starting point is 00:28:37 But about a year ago, Kevin Durant on one of his mini-year-old, podcast with Bill Simmons talked about the different way that he and LeBron go about their offseason preparation. And he said something I thought was really telling. He said LeBron works on his body. I work on my game as if he didn't see that LeBron was working on his body in order to prolong how long he can play the game. Because the guys he mentioned are guys that I understand, like whether it's footwork or in Kyrie's case, a raw dribbling skill or touch on a jump shot, they all might have something on LeBron. What LeBron's got on everybody is the body he's put together, which has allowed him to not only get to the rim, but to be uninjured. I don't
Starting point is 00:29:27 think that's something from a basketball perspective. Durant fully respects because it is obviously the opposite of what he has. Durant has made the... the most anyone could ever make with a muscle mass of around what I have, which is a remarkable feat. But it is not comparable to what we see from most other NBA stars. By the way, there's a rumor today, Kauai and Kevin Durant to the Clippers. Again, I'll believe Durant's going to leave. I don't think he has the guts to leave Golden State because he would get crushed.
Starting point is 00:30:00 And if he goes to L.A. and LeBron gets Anthony Davis, and he's on the second best team in L.A., it's a bad look for him. I don't buy this move. buy it? All right. So I do think, I disagree with you. I think Kevin Nuran is going to leave. I think he not only has the guts to leave, I think leaving could it be the only thing
Starting point is 00:30:19 to enhance his standing in the league. But the only thing if he leaves, I believe he can't do or would be crazy to do, is enter into another situation where we don't know who the best player is. So that means he's already in. one of only a handful of situations he could be in where a teammate is arguably better in Steph. So he can't go to the Lakers, and that also means he can't team up with Kauai, Yannis, Anthony Davis, LeBron. That's it. So if it's about winning championships, obviously he should stay in Golden State. If it's about proving he can do it on his own, then come to New York,
Starting point is 00:31:03 get one other all-star but not superstar and see what you can do. But going to the Clippers to play alongside another guy that a lot of people think is better than him, if you're going to do that, just stay in Golden State. It's the same thing why I don't buy Clay Thompson to the Lakers. The only reason Clay would leave the Lakers is if he wants to see what it's like with him being the best guy. So why would he go to a place, another place where he's not going to be the best guy? I know the Clippers have the salary cap space and want to do it. I don't know why KD would do it.
Starting point is 00:31:39 You know, I talk some DAC, and I think I've come to this conclusion, that DAC's the opposite of CAM. DAC's intangibles and leadership are as good as anybody in this league, A-plus. Talent, C-plus. Cam's talent is an A-plus, but as intangibles, week-to-week, half-to-half, gets moody, never had back-to-back winning seasons. I have people inside that building who have told me for years. He's a lot.
Starting point is 00:32:07 You're dealing with a lot with Cam off the field and drama and personality. My takeaway is this. Jerry said he wants DAC. So you're going to have to pay DAC. Pay him now a year early and get a discount. But if you sit and wait on DAC
Starting point is 00:32:22 and hope he struggles and the Cowboys erode, I think Dallas is going to keep getting better. All their best players are young. Cory Cooper, Van der Sash, Jalen Smith, I think you're better off going in, paying them early, getting a little discount, but I think you disagree. Well, listen, Colin, if I'm trying to sell you a Honda Accord with a great, reliable, wonderful car for $86,000, and you come home to the wife and you say, listen, got the new car, Honda Accord, got it on a discount, $82,000, she's still pissed. And so, like, you can talk discount, but here's the reality. And it's never been more crystal clear than it is right now.
Starting point is 00:33:10 Who are the teams that can win a Super Bowl? Every single one of them is in one of these two buckets. Super duper star all-time quarterback or quarterback on a rookie contract with an awesome team around him. The team that's in the second bucket, the Chiefs, the Bears, the Rams, the Cowboys, the Texans. In the first bucket, the Patriots, the Chargers. Like, those are the buckets. And what you don't want to be in is in the bucket, the lions, the Raiders, the Vikings, the, it would go down the list.
Starting point is 00:33:43 I think Washington was in before the injury, like where you've got average-ish quarterback, paid like a superstar, you're finished in that way. There is no path from there to a championship. Dak Prescott is somewhere between the 13th at best. and the 22nd at worst quarterback. The moment you pay him, you're screwed. You can't pay this guy. There is no example of winning
Starting point is 00:34:09 when you pay a guy of that caliber like he's not. So what would I do with Dak? Jerry wanted to draft Johnny Mansell once upon a time. People talked him off the ledge. Dak's got one more year at $700,000. Make him play it out. Then you know what? If you want, franchise tag him.
Starting point is 00:34:26 Put the non-exclusive tag on him. See if anyone wants to give up two first round picks. for DAC. Spoiler alert, they don't. And in the meantime, draft your next guy. Because, like, and Colin, I think there's, like, Pat Mahomes, all pay him. Carson went, assuming he'll be healthy, I'll pay him. I, Mitch Trubisky, your guy, Sam Darnold, unless those guys show drastic growth. If you can't win during their rookie contract, you better start preparing for the next guy, because if you've got an average quarterback and you pay him like he's not, you're finished. It costs you four other players you could have.
Starting point is 00:35:06 There's no way to recover from it. That's a pretty convincing argument. I'm not going to lie. That was a very convincing. I'm not saying, can I tell you real quick? Yeah. I call it, it's the Matt Ryan line. Ask yourself this.
Starting point is 00:35:18 Is this quarterback better than Matt Ryan? No. If he is, you can pay him a lot. If he's not, you got to walk away. Like Cam and Matt Ryan are right on the line. But we've seen when they were at their very best, you can win with them. But Kirk Cousins is beneath the line. Alex Smith, Blake Bortles, Derek Carr, Matt Stafford,
Starting point is 00:35:37 beneath the line. Philip Rivers, Big Ben, Aaron Rogers, above the line. If they're above the Matt Ryan line, pay them. If they're beneath the Matt Ryan line, you've got to have the stomach to walk away. Good stuff, buddy. Nick Wright, first things first. Love having you on. Thanks, bud.
Starting point is 00:35:51 Thank you. That was really good. That was really compelling. It makes it very, that's why I bring Nick on. He thinks about stuff like that. By the way, Brady and Belichick are not having a good year. We would admit that. They're going to win their division, but they've had four ugly losses.
Starting point is 00:36:06 But according to a story, Brady and Belichick are now back to getting along. Why? Why are they getting along now? We'll tell you coming up next. In L.A., it's the herd. Be sure to catch live editions of The Herd weekdays in noon Eastern 9 a.m. Pacific. On Fox Sports Radio, FS1, and the I-Hod radio app. Car shopping's confusing dealer
Starting point is 00:36:30 price list price invoice. Truecar makes it really simple. Truecar.com new or used. It'll save you $3,000 off MSRP. Some thoughts from Troy Aikman Toppa next hour. Albert Breer joining us. Carson Wentz is out for the year. Good move by Philadelphia. I want to talk about this story though and I think it's interesting joy. NFL story. Brady and Belichick are back to getting along.
Starting point is 00:36:57 As one person puts it, they're vibing now. It got to a point where it wouldn't have lasted much longer. But there's better communication. Belichick's treating Brady like a 41-year-old man. Their ongoing relationship is back to being what it was. Now, I want you to think about this for a second. Tom Brady and Bill Belichick got along for 15 years. If a couple gets along for 15 years and then suddenly they have trouble,
Starting point is 00:37:28 is there another man in the picture, another woman in the picture? Their strain, according to ESB in the magazine article, Seth Wickersham, was Jimmy Garoppolo. They got along great. Then Jimmy Garoppolo came in, and after about two years, was the next Tom. Jimmy Garoppolo came in, and Bill Belichick said, he can extend my legacy. And Brady said, he may end my legacy. And then they traded Garoppolo away. and Belichick and Brady still initially did not get along.
Starting point is 00:38:04 But do you know what's happened? Garapolo got hurt again. And Belichick, who has a history of grudge holding, Cleveland, Parcells, jets, still loves the Giants. But Belichick now looks if Garapolo was on a nine-game winning streak and tearing this league up
Starting point is 00:38:25 and they were battling the Rams for a number one-two seed in the West, and in the NFC, Bill would still be simmering. My guy, my legacy, he'd be pissed. But Garapolo got hurt for the second time in his brief career, had that really poor judgment having dinner with a porn star with TMZ hovering over a restaurant in Beverly Hills, which he sort of later apologized for.
Starting point is 00:38:53 Garopalo's failures, and there's some doubters around San Francisco, around that team in Garapolo, judgment and body, have brought Bill and Brady back together. Belichick has a history. He'll hold grudges. He wants power. And for the first time in his career, he didn't get it with Garoppolo.
Starting point is 00:39:12 Brady went to Kraft. Craft, usurped Belichick's power and said, get him out the door. And Bill did. And, oh, by the way, the story leaked. That Belichick was texting Garapolo after every win. Congrats, congrats, congrats. How did that story leak?
Starting point is 00:39:29 Because somebody wanted out. Somebody wanted that story out. Belichick. Or somebody in his camp. So the reason these guys are getting along, in my opinion, is real simple. Garapolo's struggling. And Belichick's sitting there thinking, Tommy doesn't get caught in embarrassing judgment decisions in Beverly Hills.
Starting point is 00:39:52 Tommy doesn't get hurt again for the second time in a brief career. And I do think if Garoppolo was tearing it up in this, League, Brady would not be empowered, Belichick would be ticked, and Kraft and Belichick would be at odds. Never forget, LeBron's okay with Kyrie now, because LeBron once Kyrie dumped him, Kyrie got hurt and the Celtics won without him, made LeBron look good, and LeBron took his team to the finals. But what if Kyrie had left LeBron and Kyrie was the MVP of the Eastern Conference Finals, beat LeBron and got to the finals, and won?
Starting point is 00:40:28 LeBron and Kyrie would not get along today. But it empowered LeBron, make LeBron look good when Kyrie goes, gets hurt again, can't win without him, Celtics win without Kyrie, and LeBron takes a lousy roster and goes to the finals. Don't kid yourself. A lot of egos in these sports. A lot of egos in these sports. Garopolo's failures are why Belichick and Brady now? They got along for 15 years.
Starting point is 00:40:54 Then a pretty girl moved next door. And the husband sort of flirted. and there's a strain in the relationship. And then she leaves and they get along again. It matters. By the way, Troy Aikman's got some really interesting thoughts on Dak Prescott. We'll have that. You know, the other thing, which is really remarkable as we get ready for a huge NFL weekend,
Starting point is 00:41:17 and I've said this before, dynasties are not terrible for all sports. But I do think it has to be the right dynasty. The San Antonio Spurs had a dynasty, NBA, ratings were at their lowest point. It was not an interesting dynasty. Alabama and Clemson are going to meet for the national title again this year. College football national title ratings are going down, not up. The Warriors, Michael Jordan's Bulls, the showtime Lakers, are fascinating dynasties. USC with Pete Carroll, Miami Hurricanes with Jimmy Johnson. Not all dynasties are the same. Dynasties by and large are good for sports, but they've got to be
Starting point is 00:41:57 the right dynasty. The Yankees in the early, late 1990s. That was a great dynasty. Big personalities. Joe Torrey, Yankee Stadium. Showtime. Kobe Shaq. Those are great dynasty.
Starting point is 00:42:10 Alabama Clemson rivalries and dynasties, I don't think help college football. It gets way too regional. And what is amazing about the NFL right now? That we've got this kind of dynasty in New England. but you talk about parody in a sport right now. In the NBA, one team can win. In college football, one and a half, Bama Clemson. In baseball, even in baseball now,
Starting point is 00:42:37 you're getting to the point where it's like four major payrolls have a huge advantage over everybody. You're the Dodgers, the Yankees, the Red Sox, the Cubs. Think about this in the NFL right now. Even though we have a current dynasty, 28 teams, 29 teams are still eligible to make the playoffs. If you look at the NFC playoff picture today, these aren't the teams that are just eligible. These are teams that are still actually viable.
Starting point is 00:43:06 There's nine of them. And I'm counting the Redskins, probably eight. It is amazing what we have going on in the NFL. This is the best year I've ever seen in the NFL. I have absolutely no idea who's winning either conference. I think New Orleans should be favored. AFC, no idea. Outside of New Orleans, absolutely no idea.
Starting point is 00:43:29 Rams are trending down. New England this week trending down. Pittsburgh trending down. Baltimore's trending up. Chargers trending up. What a year on the NFL. Ah, this is The Heard. Hour 2, wherever you may be.
Starting point is 00:43:47 And however you may be listening. Live in Los Angeles, IHeart Radio, Fox Sports Radio, and FS1, Joy Taylor, joining me, Albert Rear in five minutes from the NFL meetings from the NFL owners meetings in Irving, Texas in five minutes. The very latest of what's going on around the league, Packer Coach, suggestion Tomlin could be in trouble in Pittsburgh. Joy Taylor joining us. Joy, how are you?
Starting point is 00:44:09 Doing great. I tell my kids this all the time. Life is about reaction, not action. People are usually all in on action. What do I say? No, no, life's about reaction. Even great actors have bad movies. Do you burn bridges?
Starting point is 00:44:28 Rip your agent. Rip the studio? Denzel's had bad movies. Tom Hanks had bad movies. Everybody gets dumped. Do you become a stalker? Cuckoo! Or do you just move on?
Starting point is 00:44:41 A lot of people get fired. Do you burn bridges? Remember when Tony Romo lost his job to DAC? Remember how well Tony Romo reacted? It's why CBS said, With no experience, we're going to put you next to Jim Nance. Here's 5 million large a year. Be the analyst for the next 15 years in the NFL.
Starting point is 00:45:04 It wasn't his actions because he didn't win the playoff games. It was his reaction that looked dignified and classy as the quarterback of the Cowboys above the fray. Dak Prescott, his actions, he doesn't throw as well as Cam. His reactions way better than Kham. cam. We too often judge quarterbacks on just their arm and just their running and just judge them on their reactions. The National Anthem controversy in Dallas, it started bubbling up. And what did Dak Prescott do? Dak Prescott said, I'm going to put my hand in my heart, I love America, and stand next to my owner. Oh, and Twitter was outraged as it often is.
Starting point is 00:45:47 And Dak said, I'm going to double down. I'm going to put my hand in my heart and I love America, and I'm going to stand up here and represent America and the Cowboys. He didn't buckle. Yes, his action was one thing, but his reaction, everybody scared at Twitter, not DAC. The Des Bryant mess, his reaction was great. Zeke Elliott controversy, his reaction was great. This past weekend was a classic DAC game. Through an interception in the second quarter, he threw another in the third, then he fumbled.
Starting point is 00:46:20 he was awful. How did he react to it? Did he go into the tank? Nah. Had his best quarter ever and his best game ever. That's the difference with DAC. We too often judge people on their actions, but life's really about reaction because we're all going to get fired, we're all going to get dumped, we're all going to get replaced, and how do you handle it? Do you become a stalker? Do you burn bridges? Do you fire your agent and yell at your studio? Dak has been one of the great reactors in the NFL. He often plays his best second half after his worst first half. Look at the Cowboys season.
Starting point is 00:47:03 They lost to the Titans, Monday Night Football, were awful. Dax reaction? Five-game winning streak. Cam Newton and the Panthers blown out at Pittsburgh. Their reaction? They haven't won since. Leadership is reaction, not action. Troy Aikman talking about why he likes Dak Prescott.
Starting point is 00:47:27 Talked about it, that it's easy to play quarterback when you're winning, but when you go out there and you throw a couple interceptions and you throw the interception that cost you the game, how do you go in on Monday morning and confront your teammate and handle that situation? And that's when you start to realize what you have in a quarterback. And as a quarterback, I know those are tough Monday morning, but I've said it many, many times. Dak's the last guy that I'd worry about within that organization.
Starting point is 00:47:50 He's a terrific guy, and I think the world of them. and I wouldn't hesitate one minute and having him continue to be the face of the franchise. The greatest closer of all time is Mariano Rivera. He blew a game seven of the World Series. Came back the following year, and he was better. Brad Lidge was a really, really good closer. He gave up a legendary home run in the playoffs.
Starting point is 00:48:15 He went into the emotional tank for years. They had to get him out of town before he rebounded. They were both great pitchers. One's a legend because of reaction, not just his action. And with that, Albert Breyer, Monday morning quarterback is joining us live at the NFL owner meetings
Starting point is 00:48:32 in Texas via the Coward Global Satellite Network. Let's start with this. Carson Wentz, probably done for the year. What's the thinking behind that, Albert? Well, his back's been bothering him for a couple months now. So this isn't necessarily new. It's something that they've been dealing with on a week-to-week basis.
Starting point is 00:48:52 And I think they're very much looking at the possible right now of just shutting them down. Things have been a little sideways there over the course of the last few months, Colin. I mean, the offensive staffs obviously knew you lose your offensive coordinator and Frank Reich, your quarterback's coach and John D. Philippa. Things haven't been perfect on that side of the ball day. The running back issues, that obviously has affected the way the quarterbacks played. And Carson Wentz has had his fits and starts coming back from the ACL injury.
Starting point is 00:49:18 And so I think part of the thinking here is maybe it's just best for him psychologically, shut him down, give him a chance to have a full off season and hit the ground running in 2019. Yep, totally agree with that. Everybody, Michael Jordan had a lost year. John Stockton broke a leg. Brady was out for a year. Andrew Luck had a lost season. Sit him down, get him healthy, be good.
Starting point is 00:49:37 We got into this discussion earlier this week that Mike McCarthy, one bad year, bum rushed out of town midseason. Mike Tomlin is in the same situation. He's won a Super Bowl, respected. but once again the Steelers appear to be unraveling. Is it unfair to suggest that maybe the Ben Tomlin era has had better days, or do you think he is safe regardless? It's fair to say that Ben Tomlin era has had better days, and certainly I think that the way that Ben's handled himself over the last few weeks
Starting point is 00:50:14 has drawn some eye rolls in the Steelers building, that's nothing new. I would tell you that I see it being hard. It would be hard for me to see where they would make a move on Mike Tomlin after this year. They had a string of consecutive playoff years. They've gotten themselves out of a rut during the Tomlin era. And you may remember, things were pretty bad prior to Bill Cower winning his first Super Bowl there. And they wound up second with him and it paid off for them in the long run. And so my feeling is if there are changes there, they may be to the staff underneath Tomlin.
Starting point is 00:50:45 I think Tomlin is still safe after this year, regardless of how the three-game stretch goes with the Patriots this week, the Saints next week, and of course, week 17 against the Bengals. By the way, Trent Dilfer came on my show yesterday and suggested, you still don't have to pay DAC for a year. Let's just wait and watch. Now, the danger in that is he wins playoff games and has more leverage. Michael Irvin came on yesterday and suggested, no, no, no, pay him early, do him a solid and get a discount. Instead of waiting a year and having to pay him 30, can you get him for 22 now? So two different opinions, both are plausible.
Starting point is 00:51:22 What do you think happens with DAC and the money? I think they pay in this offseason. If you want to see the price of waiting to pay a quarterback, look at Baltimore. They're still paying the price for having Joe Flacco go into that contract year and win a Super Bowl. And he's still one of the highest paid quarterbacks in the league now, even though he's sitting on their bench. You don't want to put yourself in that situation if you really believe in a guy. And I'll tell you, even in the down moments when I've talked to Stephen Jones or Jason Garrett or anybody, in that organization, there's still this very
Starting point is 00:51:50 solid belief in who Dak Prescott is as a player. And I think he saw it again on Sunday where that game went haywire on him. He didn't play very well from end to end, but he was still making plays. He was still swinging. There's this term, Colin, that Nick Saban has for
Starting point is 00:52:07 this type of player, unaffected. That's how he talked about Julio Jones when he was coming out of Alabama. And I think that applies to Dak Prescott. He's unaffected by everything around him, which makes him ideal from mindset standpoint to be a franchise quarterback. And the Cowboys believe that he's going to keep growing because he has that mindset.
Starting point is 00:52:25 And he's ideal to play on that stage as the quarterback of America's team. And so I think to avoid being in the same situation that Baltimore was in with Joe Flacco in 2012, the Cowboys get something done this off season. And I'll tell you what, they have budgeted. If you want to look at their books and how they've set up their contracts and everything else, they've spent the last couple of years budgeting for big contracts for DAC Prescott. and Ezekiel Elliott. So it's certainly prepared for it. Green Bay. I read a story. You know, we've talked about Harbaugh. Harbaugh says I'm staying at Michigan.
Starting point is 00:52:58 We have suggested Josh McDaniels, but he is an outsider with a strong point of view that maybe not a perfect fit in Mayberry NFL Green Bay. Joe Philbin, much more likable already in the club if they go on a winning streak has a big shot here. Who do your sources say is the leader in the clubhouse in Green Bay. Where do you think they're leaning, Albert? I think over the last couple of weeks, my feeling is the people in Green Bay have taken a deep, deep breath. They don't do this very often. This isn't a franchise that goes through a coaching search every couple of years. I'm sure there's some background work to be done, but they're going to observe Joe Phillip in over the next few weeks. And if you look at their schedule, it's not
Starting point is 00:53:39 impossible if they could get in position to be a wild card in an NFC where an eight-win team might actually get into the playoffs. And so I think right now, they're still in a little bit of a holding pattern. I would continue to keep your eyes on Josh McDaniels. I think as somebody, the general manager, Brian Guttecunz, has some affection for. You might remember a few years ago, Josh McDaniels was the frontrunner for the head coaching job in San Francisco. At that point, in the Niners search, the leader for the general manager job was actually Goodukunst himself. They've done background working with each other. And I know we talked about this last week, Colin, this is an important point to make here. There aren't very many people on the planet that are
Starting point is 00:54:18 coachable that are capable of coaching Aaron Rogers of challenging them, of giving him new information on a week-to-week basis. Well, Josh McDaniels has been through that. That's been his life the last few years in coaching Tom Brady. And for that reason, I think Josh McDaniels remains very, very attractive to the Green Bay Packers. By the way, I saw a story today that Brady and Belichick are getting along better. I theorize that if Garapolo was on a nine-game winning streak, it still wouldn't be rosy because Belichick would be better, but that Garapolo, on, Belichick looks at it and thinks, you know what, we're fine with Tommy. Tommy's healthy. Garapolo's not. Garapolo got into that silly situation with the adult film star in Beverly Hills,
Starting point is 00:54:58 which was bad judgment. But the story is that Brady and Belichick have sort of soothed things over. You know that team as well as any reporter in the country. You buy it? Yeah, I do. I mean, I think they've worked out some of their issues. It's never, I mean, it's not perfect. And Bill's never going to be best friends with his players. He does a better job of compartmentalizing his relationships than anybody I've ever seen while you're his employee while you're working for him you're going to be treated that way and so that part of it hasn't changed but you know they have been able to work out some things with the TB12 method and Alex Guerrero and all the other things that caused some of the discord last year and here's what's really interesting about it Colin last year at this time
Starting point is 00:55:37 you had all that stuff going on right and you had this I don't want to call it certainty but this feeling in the organization bills probably got a couple years left now with this relationship in a better place the feeling I've gotten is that there's even less certainty in the organization about Bill's future. Like he could wind up coaching there for another five years. That's part of the reason why you see Josh McDaniels looking at the idea of leaving. The other coaches, the other people in that building, and maybe Kraft knows, but other people in that building don't have a real idea now of how much longer Bill is going to be coaching because he seems to be really enjoying it this year. He really likes his team. And again, there are people in that building who think he could stick around for another five or six years.
Starting point is 00:56:17 Good stuff. Albert Breer, NFL owner's meetings. For the record, I don't want to get into the minutia of, you know, legislation. But what is the big agenda at the owner meeting this week? What is it? Well, they haven't talked about it yet, all right? And this is a one-day meeting. So this isn't, you know, this is sort of more of a business meeting than anything else. But they will talk about it this afternoon. And that's the issue of sports gambling and how that's going to be managed going forward. Do they bring in a gambling czar to manage all of this? I don't think you want your, you know, I think there's, you know, obviously some questions with officiating and all of that different stuff that someone's going to have to answer for down the line.
Starting point is 00:56:51 And so I think the idea of looking at potentially a gambling czar down the road, that's something they could look at. They're going to be talking about gambling global. this afternoon here in Texas. And it's fascinating where this could go, Colin. I think what you're going to see in the next four or five years, in-game prop betting is going to be where the NFL is going to be looking to bet to profit off of this. But there's still a lot they've got to work out, obviously. Complicated issue for all sports leagues.
Starting point is 00:57:18 I don't think the NFL is going to take a leading role on this. I think they'd rather see baseball or basketball, kind of get its start in finding ways to profit off of sports gambling, and then maybe follow the lead there, but they're certainly talking about it here. That was a good answer. I thought you were going to talk about tax laws changing or a stupid kickoff rule. I got gambling stuff from Albert Breer. That was awesome.
Starting point is 00:57:37 Great talking to you, Money Morning quarterback. Thanks, Albert. All right, thanks, Colin. Yeah, listen, you know, there's an old saying in sports, Joy, the NBA thinks of it first, baseball makes the most money off it, and the NFL gets it right. And that's a classic example. NFL would rather, NBA was the first to talk about gambling, baseball will make the most money on gambling because they have the most games,
Starting point is 00:58:00 but the NFL will sit and let them make mistakes, then jump in and get it right. And you'll be able to bet in stadiums. Coming up next, buy, seller hold. Rob Parker, Stephen Jackson, we are just starting man out halfway through this puppy. Thursday night football returns tomorrow for a huge AFC West showdown as Philip Rivers and the 10-and-3 chargers faced off against Pat from Bahams and the 11 and 2 first-place chiefs.
Starting point is 00:58:25 It all starts at 730 Eastern on Fox NFL Network and streaming on Prime Video. God, that's going to be a great game. Thursday night football this year has been unbelievable. That is going to be a great game. Is Kansas City pulling down after struggling with Baltimore? Or were they looking ahead to the Chargers? Chargers have won like 7 of 8. Their defense is on fire.
Starting point is 00:58:46 This will be one of the great games this year in the NFL. It will be one of the great. It'll be like that. It'll be like that Rams Chiefs game except with defense. because the Chargers play real, real defense. By the way, there's this story today. The Clippers bold plan to land Kauai Leonard and Kevin Durant. According to the story that Clipper employees have attended 75% of Toronto Raptor games.
Starting point is 00:59:14 They're stalking him. They're hovering around Kauai Leonard going to games, Clippers officials. And the other story is that Kevin Durant is kind of a wanderer and he would go down there. Can I just say this about Kevin Durant? Kevin Durant needs Golden State, more than Golden State needs Kevin Durant. They want a title without him. And if he leaves, they'll just put Boogie Cousins in. And then Clay and Steph and Draymond and Boogie Cousins will still be the favorite to win the championship and still would.
Starting point is 00:59:42 Kevin Durant, there's a saying in life, don't try to get happier than happy. That's my saying. Once you're happy, don't try to get happier. You'll screw it up. Kevin Durant is totally protected at Golden State. He doesn't have to be the leader, Steph is. He doesn't have to be the tough guy, Drayman is. He doesn't have to be the glue guy, Steph and Clayar.
Starting point is 01:00:04 He can just make big shots, in big games, collect hardware, and then go home and hang out watching Twitter and Instagram for five hours a day. That's an easy life. Just hit shots. By the way, I've seen Kevin Durant before Golden State. They called him, remember what they called him? Mr. Unreliable? That was the headline in all.
Starting point is 01:00:23 Oklahoma City that freaked him out and ticked him off, that you couldn't depend on him. There's a reason that newspaper did it. He was Mr. Unreliable. Well, if he goes to the Clippers, he'll become Mr. Irrelevant. LeBron, Anthony Davis, Lakers, I live in this town. That will be the story. And Golden State will still be good. And Boston will be getting better. So, you know, this idea that Kevin Durant's in the perfect place. He doesn't have to be the leader, doesn't have to be the tough guy, doesn't have to be the glue guy, doesn't have to be the quasi-coach like LeBron's have to, had to be.
Starting point is 01:01:02 He can just go out and hit big shots and collect hardware and hang out on Instagram all day and do podcasts. That's as good as it gets for him. That's a good life for him. Don't overthink the room, KD. Joy with the news. No, no, no, no, turn on the news. This is the herd line news. We were at that Raptors game last night.
Starting point is 01:01:20 What's that? that Raptors game last time. You did? Yeah, everyone I went. So Raptors played the Clippers. They did. And you were there? Yes. And the Raptors won. And they won convincingly over the Clippers without Kauai Leonard. Telling you, you got to watch those baby dinosaurs. They're a different team this year. You know what happens to baby dinosaurs in January, February and March, in the NBA, they go extinct. And then in April, May. Because they used to have the LeBron James. Meteor. The LeBron Meteor. Exactly. In the Eastern Conference. He's not there anymore. All right, so I don't know how you're going to feel about this story.
Starting point is 01:01:52 The four-team college football playoff is only in its fifth season. Yeah. But there is increasing support for playoff expansion. That includes the obvious push for an eight-team system, which is proposed by the former Big 12 commissioner Chuck Ninus. His plan is easy to follow, and it could fit relatively easily into the current schedule. It calls for an eight-team field featuring the five power five conference champions, the top group of five champion, and two at-large bids.
Starting point is 01:02:20 This is the grid for it here. Well, you know what? The bracket. This is a really interesting one for me because I've never felt like the seventh or eighth team in college football deserves a shot to win the championship. But I also don't believe, Joy, that this 63rd best team in college basketball can win, but I still love the tournament. So here's what's going to happen. This is a really interesting topic. If this happened, Joy, and I think, will we both agree it's inevitable?
Starting point is 01:02:45 I think this is going to happen, yes. There's too much money in it. ESPN's getting tired to have in Alabama Clemson every year. year on the championship. Well, that's really what it comes down to. It's less about whether what's fair and who should have an opportunity and you know, you should let more teams in that are deserving like UCF
Starting point is 01:03:00 who's, you know, best win with Cincinnati even though they're undefeated. You know, you're going to continuously have that argument. But it's less about that and more about the fact that college football has become so regionalized and the South is dominating. So there's nothing in the if I'm on the West Coast, I mean,
Starting point is 01:03:16 unless I just love college football, why do I care? No. And so this would take that out and you'd always have a guaranteed Pact 12 team in it. And so I would say this. I have never felt the seventh best team or eighth best team deserves a shot at being number one. But I will say this. It is good for my business. We'll get rid of some of these stupid bowl games that don't matter. And at the end of the year, we'll have this massive bracket. And that's good for my business. So selfishly, even though I don't think the teams deserve it, I'm in the business of sports broadcasting and I'm in the business of
Starting point is 01:03:49 interesting and you'd have more good games, interesting matchups and drama at the end of a season. John? Colin, doesn't this also prevent more players from sitting out? Because I think that worries, I think that worries a lot of the sponsors who pay a lot of money for bowl games. That's interesting. That's more bowl games
Starting point is 01:04:05 where everyone's going to play. Yeah, it definitely does. And I think it gives teams, you know, like the 8 seed team, more motivation towards the end of the season. Like once you know, okay, well, we're not going to make the college football playoff. We are only playing for one of these, you know, big bowls, but still a lesser bowl outside of the college football playoff. It changes things
Starting point is 01:04:25 dramatically. Now, will this hurt some end of the year games? Yes. Will it hurt some bowl games? Yes. But let's be honest about it. College basketball has become a three-week sport, and this will, it will cannibalize some of the late season games in college football. But if I'm ESPN and I own a big chunk of this sport, I'm getting tired of seeing Bama and Clemson. You just have to have to have more variety. You know these teams are going to dominate for the time being. You've got to get some other teams in there. You know what teams are favored next
Starting point is 01:04:55 year with the quarterbacks? Bama and Clemson for the fifth year in a row after this year. So I think this is inevitable. And also, I think it may actually help the pro game as well because you're going to get to see more players play in actual high pressure situations. Right.
Starting point is 01:05:11 In playoff situations as opposed to just a big bowl, which you may be disappointed if you lose, but what factors does it really have if it's not in the college football playoff. So with the Spurs win over the suns last night, Greg Popovich took another step forward in his legacy. He passed Pat Riley to become the fourth winningest coach in NBA history. He trails only Jerry Sloan, Lenny Wilkins, and Don Nelson.
Starting point is 01:05:33 That's about right. He's got the Spurs to five championships. Well, I mean, Phil Jackson didn't coach as many games, but he's got a lot more hardware. Well, yeah. It's really impressive what Popovich has done, though. Yeah. The Spurs, to me, are the model. the Patriots, just the model of what consistency in an organization will do.
Starting point is 01:05:51 Like they call it the Spurs way, you know, the Patriots way. They kind of mirror each other. They just do everything different. And I mean, not that, you know, beating the sons who I believe it was. Well, they also have, one has Brady, one has Tim Duncan. When Brady leaves, it won't be the as smooth as it's been. And when Duncan has left, it's not as easy for them. You've got to have the great player to make these dynasties work.
Starting point is 01:06:12 Well, the Spurs have had a couple issues and injuries this year. But I do think that this is an interesting time for Popper's. of which because of what you said, you know, they don't have Tony Parker, Genobley and Duncan there anymore, specifically Duncan. So, you know, how does he reinvent himself in this, you know, twilight of his career, if you will? And finally, everyone has our own obsessions. And Kevin Durant is obviously obsessed with basketball and was talking and staying in his mentions, which is fine, as a lot of people do. During a recent interview with The Athletic, he revealed that he makes everyone who comes over to his house watch Michael Jordan highlights. He said, everybody that comes to my house, whether it's friends or family, I make them watch Jordan highlights.
Starting point is 01:06:49 This is equivalent to Einstein, Beethoven, or Obama. This is the greatest talent in athletes and minds of the world. All right, that's odd. What do you make people do with your house? Do you make people take their shoes off? Not really. Be nice to my cats. I don't know.
Starting point is 01:07:05 I don't really. How many cats do you have? I have two cats and a dog, and often two dogs because my dog has a lot of friends in the neighborhood. They have gambling poker games at night. Oh, that's cute. So, joy with the news. Well, that's the news. And thanks for stopping by.
Starting point is 01:07:20 The Herd Lye News. Christmas around the corner, 1-800 Flowers.com, the holiday flower tree, 20% off it. You go to 1-800flowers.com. Enter the code Herd. H-E-R-D. You ready to play? I'm your stockbroker. Buy.
Starting point is 01:07:34 Good one this week. Buy, sell, or hold. Time to buy. Colin will decide if he'll buy it. Sell. Watch it at sell. Or hold. Buy seller hole,
Starting point is 01:07:50 Dak Prescott will one day be a more decorated cowboy than Tony Romo. Well, I mean, Tony Romo was two and four in the playoffs in his career, and I think people forget this. When Tony Romo came to this organization and Bill Parcells, Dallas needed to be rebuilt. He didn't have a great defense for years.
Starting point is 01:08:09 Tony Romo got beat up because he had a bad offensive line for most of his career. In fact, the sad part is when Romo finally got a good old line, he was too beat up to play behind it, which is a total bummer because I love Tony Romo. Dak has inherited a much better defense than Tony Romo ever had. Dak, I think, has inherited a better offensive line that'll get attacked together again next year. And Dak inherits Zeke, maybe the best running back in the NFL.
Starting point is 01:08:33 So I would say, John... Bye, bye, bye, bye! Yeah, Dak's going to have a better career than Romo because Jerry's already told us he's signing him, and he has inherited not only a great defense, a young great defense that's going to get re-sign and be great for the next four or five years. By seller hold, Tom Brady will not win another road playoff game as a member of the Patriots. By the way, does everybody realize this since 2005? Tom is one and four on the road in the playoffs.
Starting point is 01:09:02 Tom's legacy has been about winning playoff games overwhelmingly at home. He has struggled on the road. And let's be honest, he's putting up his lowest passer rating and his high. highest interception rate in 2013 as the rest of the quarterbacks in the league have moved up a notch, even guys like Matt Ryan on losing teams. Tom's numbers have come down. Remember, no quarterback 41 or older has ever won a playoff game. So John, buy, bye, bye, bye. I don't think Brady will ever win a road playoff game again. And if he goes to Kansas City this year, and I think he's probably going to, he's going to lose that football game. By seller hold, Aaron Rogers, will run the table.
Starting point is 01:09:45 at the Bears, at the Jets, home against the Lions. The Bears this weekend have not allowed. This is really something, because the Bears have played some good teams. They've not allowed in the last seven games a quarterback to have over an 80 passer rating. Okay? And they've also had 14 picks and 21 sacks over the last seven games. Now, I do think Green Bay with McCarthy out, Aaron Rogers, is on a mission. But John...
Starting point is 01:10:15 Sell, sell, sell. I think Chicago will beat Green Bay this weekend. Buy seller hold, Kirk Cousins will not be the Vikings quarterback next season. Well, he still owed $58 million guarantee. So you can walk away. Is that tough to move? Yeah, that's a little tough to negotiate around. He's also completing 70% of his throws.
Starting point is 01:10:40 So with Kirk Cousins, you got him for two years, the key is it's a weird situation. He's got two great deep threats, and he's not a really dynamic guy that scrambles around buys time and finds deep threats. You could almost argue he'd be better with a series of possession sure-handed receivers that catch the ball within 15 yards instead of having Stefan Diggs and Thielen, who are great deep threats. But John... Sell, sell, sell! Yeah, he's going to be the quarterback. He will be the quarterback next year and the following year. Buy seller hold a big five quarterback, which we defined as well.
Starting point is 01:11:13 Brady, Breeze, Rathusberger, Aaron Rogers, or Russell Wilson, will win the Super Bowl. By the way, do you know who leads the NFC and passerating? Russell Wilson and Drew Breeze. Yeah. And Brady and Big Ben are, by the way, six and seven respectively. Only three quarterbacks have represented the AFC in 15 of the last 17 years. And I, you know, listen, haven't we already noticed in the NFL this season that as the weather gets colder, defenses matter more, Dallas's defense now matters.
Starting point is 01:11:46 Chicago's defense now matters. The Colts defense has stepped up. So football within one season changes. But it changes again in the playoffs. There's a reason that Brady and Ben and Russell Wilson and it, the games get really intense. And young quarterbacks historically do not do well in the postseason. So John,
Starting point is 01:12:08 Bye, bye, bye, Brady, Breeze, Ben, Rogers Wilson. one of those five will win the Super Bowl. Finally, buy-seller hold. Dwayne Wade will go down as the greatest teammate LeBron has ever had. Well, he's better than Bosch. And he's better than Kyrie and Kevin Love. Never forget this.
Starting point is 01:12:31 Dwayne Wade ranks top 10 and assists, steals, field goals. And if you start looking at all his teammates, Kyrie would be the one player that you think could elevate. but two things. Kyrie gets hurt a lot, and Kyrie has admitted he doesn't have any interest to play until he's
Starting point is 01:12:49 38 years old. But will LeBron never get one better? This is post LeBron's career. Okay. They're not getting KD. They're not getting Clay. I don't think they have the ammunition to outbid people for Anthony Davis. So John... Bye, bye, bye!
Starting point is 01:13:07 I think Dee Wade, who's a top 25 player ever. I'm not... I don't even know if there's anyone in the league that could link up. By the way, all these Janus Anthony Davis fans, they're not top 100 players ever right now. Stop it. Come on.
Starting point is 01:13:23 Anthony Davis is a one-one playoff series. Give me a break. Wade won three championship. He was finals MVP. Yes. He's a top 25 player ever. Yes. He's better than Scotty Pippin.
Starting point is 01:13:33 I don't think there's anyone in the league that could team up with LeBron. By the way, have you ever had this thing, man, this is the best, this is not even ad. This is the best, it's the best new, I eat popcorn, which is a, horrible thing for a talk show host to do during the show. That's not an ad. You get the snack bug at one point throughout the show. I do.
Starting point is 01:13:49 Every day. It varies. It's not an ad. I'm just telling you, skinny pop popcorn. So I can wear my skinny jeans. Coming up next, crazy. Instigator of FS1, Rob Parker, made me laugh hard last week coming up. Be sure to catch live editions of The Herd, weekdays in noon Eastern, 9 a.m.
Starting point is 01:14:05 Pacific. Now through Christmas, get 30% off. 23andMe.com slash the herd. DNA genetic testing kit. That's 23andMe.com slash the herd. Rob Parker, sports columnist, Detroit News, daily news in New York, teaches sports commentary at USC. He's The Herd Show instigator. All right, so Kevin Durant comes out second time in two weeks.
Starting point is 01:14:28 First, he called LeBron toxic. And now he mentioned yesterday on a podcast. He talked about all the great players of all time, Kobe Michael, and he mentions Kyrie, but not LeBron James. You know that Kevin Durant's mad that he went to Golden State. he thought winning titles would elevate him above LeBron, and it hasn't happened. No, it hasn't happened, but I love this.
Starting point is 01:14:50 First of all, they're peers. He shouldn't be, you know, falling over crazy for LeBron or be a fanboy of LeBron James, because he's ultimately trying to be better than LeBron during the LeBron era, and he has a chance at it. Colin, if they win the next two championships, right, he'll have four, won four in a row, beating LeBron a couple times,
Starting point is 01:15:11 and then beating the Lakers or, you know what I mean, in the LeBron era, this all will make Kevin Durant the better guy and people ultimately will look at his career and say, this guy beat LeBron in his own game. So you like him, you don't think it shows insecurity. No, I mean, we already know. Kevin Durant is the Massot. I told you this before, most sensitive of all time.
Starting point is 01:15:34 He is. Yeah. This guy should be living a life and traveling Europe and having fun. he's worried about what people think. You can't, when you're this good knowing the nature of social media and all this stuff, you can't be worried about it. You just won back-to-back
Starting point is 01:15:50 finals MVP's right and won two championships. What could somebody say to you? I don't think he'll ever leave because I think he has the perfect situation. Then again, I never thought LeBron would leave Miami because of Wash, Bois, Wade, Badierey, Riley, Ray Allen,
Starting point is 01:16:06 Mickey Eris, the owner. But you never thought the Miami thing was a success for LeBron and Wade. Not at all. I mean, this whole thing that they had where it was Dwayne Wade and LeBron, oh, it was their last game and all this day. It was like revisionist history. That situation in Miami where he, not two, not three, not four, remember that?
Starting point is 01:16:25 About all the championships was a failure in Miami. Yes, Joy Taylor. It was a failure. LeBron and Bosch and Wade. They only really almost only won one championship if it wasn't for Ray Allen. Oh, I missed the column for the almost won the championships. Yeah, what columns that in? It was an almost.
Starting point is 01:16:45 You know the one I'm talking about where Ray Allen saved his bacon, where he made that big three-pointer. Did they have a game seven after that? Everybody in Miami was out of the stadium. Don't you remember they were outside, banging on the window trying to get back in? It was like 30 people, and they had a game seven after that. Yeah, they had another game, Rob. No, no.
Starting point is 01:17:04 You're marginalizing it. No, I'm not marginalizing it. There was no way when you put that team together. did you think they would win two out of four championships? If you want to be known as something special, it would be at least three in a row. They didn't do that. They did not get the three in a row. I don't think failure is a fair word.
Starting point is 01:17:22 Did they achieve Shack Kobe level? No. Michael Jordan Warriors, no. But I think getting to the finals four straight times in winning two, I don't think that could be deemed as failure. When you put together those three players who were all in the same draft, stars demolished the competition in the Eastern Conference, open the door for yourself to win,
Starting point is 01:17:43 and you didn't accomplish that? You did nothing special. Winning two championships is nothing special, Colin. You told me that they won and won all four or won three out of four, maybe I would buy into it, what they had set up. And don't forget, LeBron talked about it, winning all these championships in the road, he even said, I'm not kidding, I'm serious about it.
Starting point is 01:18:03 They really thought that they were going to run the table, and they lost to Dallas, which was a terrible loss in the finals. LeBron's worst series ever, yes. No doubt about it. And then to only win two out of four was back. They did get rolled by San Antonio in the fourth year in the finals. It was not a competitive finals. Not at all.
Starting point is 01:18:21 They got rolled. Okay, I want to go back to this. Dak Prescott. You know, Tony Romo, and I love Tony Romo. He's a great broadcaster, by the way, is kind of legendary. We all know he's not Aikman. He's just got to let Jim Nance breathe a little bit. A little bit more.
Starting point is 01:18:36 Right. Am I right? Yeah. That's it. He'll learn that. Aikman's the greatest cowboy quarterback ever. Staubeck is inches behind him. And Tony Romo's way up there.
Starting point is 01:18:46 But my takeaway is Dak will be number three because he is going to inherit the best running back, Tony Romo didn't, the best defense, Tony Romo didn't. He's inheriting better stuff than Romo,
Starting point is 01:18:58 and I think eventually Dak will surpass Romo in cowboy lore, do you? I'm not buying it. I just cannot believe where we are. A month ago, Troy Aikman said the Cowboys need to be blown up, and this was a complete mess. Nobody was talking about giving Dak Prescott $28, $30 million to be a quarterback.
Starting point is 01:19:21 And I'm not all the way in. I have not bought all the way in because I think this thing could turn the other way. I'll tell you right now, if he was available, right now on the open market, very few, if any, would want Dak Prescott or to sign him. I don't believe he's that guy that you would be like, oh, wait a minute, we can replace our quarterback and get Dak Prescott? There's still a lot of flaws there. You mean, were you convinced when they beat the Saints and the Cowboys scored no points in the second half of a 13 to 10 win? Is that when you were convinced that Dak Prescott is that guy?
Starting point is 01:19:53 Come on, Colin. This is prisoner of the moment. I'm not taking anything away. They've won the five games. He's played better. No doubt about it. But this thing could turn over and go the other way. Very, very quickly.
Starting point is 01:20:06 Here's what's interesting. So I talked to a Sharp, a Vegas Sharp this morning, somebody I deeply trust in Vegas, who doesn't work here, doesn't work at my old place. Right. He said Vegas is begging you to bet the Cowboys this weekend. Go look at the line, minus two and a half. Colts are favored.
Starting point is 01:20:24 They are begging you to bet. They're begging the country to bet Dallas. What does that tell you? Right. Colts are within the game. No doubt about it. So to your point, If they lose to the Colts this weekend, are we all like, oh, my God, what was I thinking about
Starting point is 01:20:40 Dak Prescott? And that's all I'm saying. It's going to take a lot more for me to be convinced. I mean, the Cowboys, if I'm the Cowboys, I wait one more year, and I don't care. I want him to prove to me that he is really that guy. Yes, you probably could get him a little cheaper now. But be careful, because when you rush into it, there's no turning back. And if this guy goes back to the guy who was a year ago or even earlier this season,
Starting point is 01:21:04 where people were talking about 200 yards, a game manager. Do you remember all the stuff? That was this year. That wasn't four years ago. So I know things have turned around. Is it fair to say this, though? His intangibles are great. During the anthem, he said, I'm going to put my hand in my heart and stand.
Starting point is 01:21:21 And when he got pushed back on Twitter, he doubled down and said, I don't care. The Des Bryant mess rises. Zeke mess legally rises. Couldn't I argue, though, a big part of this sport is intangibles. he is an A plus at intangibles. That's fine. But I've also seen the bad deck who can't throw the ball consistently down the field, who Troy Aikman a month ago said, this is no good.
Starting point is 01:21:46 I mean, seriously, I'm not picking on Troy. I'm just saying everybody saw that. We all saw it, didn't we? When they were struggling and how bad it was. And I'm saying, has he played better? Yes. But am I convinced that this is the guy, I bet you, if Jerry Jones could do it all over again,
Starting point is 01:22:03 and could have made the change for Tony Romo. I bet you he would. And he wouldn't admit it now because things are rolling, and they got a chance to win the division and make the players and all that. But if he could do it all over again, he would take Tony Romo nine out of ten times over Dak Prescott. By the way, Brady and Belichick, according to a story this morning, are getting along again.
Starting point is 01:22:25 You know I'm not buying that at all. Why? Because Belichick will never live it down that the owner picked the 40-year-old quarterback over the coach. It's never happened. You want me to name all the quarterbacks who got sent packing? You know, in their career? Montana. Montana won four Super Bowls got sent packing.
Starting point is 01:22:44 Joe Namathes played for the Rams. I could go on and on and on. Peyton Manning, they put out in Indianapolis, right? Yeah. This is what happens. But in this case, Belichick got picked over by the quarterback. And I think that he'll always feel burned by the owner that he's, picked Tom Brady.
Starting point is 01:23:04 Yeah, it's the first time ever. Good point. The first time ever, they chose the quarterback over the coach when the quarterback was 40. I never thought about that. It's never happened. And that's why I'm saying Belichick won't get over it. Good seeing you. As always.
Starting point is 01:23:19 Instigator. Joy, you still like me? I'm questioning your judgment. Okay. Hour three, this is going to be a good one. This is the herd, wherever you may be and however you may be listening. in Los Angeles, Iheart Radio, Fox Sports Radio on FS1. That was as good as Rob Parker's ever been on my show.
Starting point is 01:23:41 He made a lot of sense. Nah. He had a couple of points. He went off the rails with the heat championships. Four straight finals and two back-to-back championships is not a failure. Yeah, failure's a little hard. I thought he brought up a great point, though. In the history of the NFL, 40-year-old quarterbacks,
Starting point is 01:24:02 the owner always chooses the coach, over the quarterback, and Bob Kraft for the first time ever chose the quarterback over the coach. That's a great point, and he doesn't think Belichick will ever forget that. I think that's an outlier, though. Tom Brady is reinvented what an old quarterback is. That's good point. So in times past, it would have made sense to move on from the four-year-old quarterback. By the way, I want to spend 30 seconds on this. So Baltimore today said Lamar Jackson, he's going to be our quarterback, and Joe Flacco is now number two, and Flacco was upset about it. Joe Flacco. I've been told,
Starting point is 01:24:35 for years, Baltimore's frustrated with his lack of off-season work. Sorry, Joe. Brady puts in the time off-season. Breeze puts in the time off-season. Matt Ryan puts in the time off-season. Flacco doesn't. Cost him his job. Put the time in. Put the time in. Coming up in 15 minutes, Stephen Jackson on the ongoing drama with Kevin Durant taking another shot at LeBron James. Later and best for last, I will reveal my super Super Bowl nightmare matchup.
Starting point is 01:25:09 But Kevin Durant was talking about yesterday in a podcast the most impressive players he's ever seen. He said, Kobe MJ and Kyrie, just the way they move. I don't understand why people don't realize what they're seeing in these three. And to me, this is the story of the day. I don't believe in coincidences. Things happen for a reason. Kevin Durant for the second time in a couple of weeks has taken a shot. at LeBron James.
Starting point is 01:25:36 Remember a couple of weeks ago when he said playing with LeBron is toxic? It's never been toxic playing with LeBron. Is getting to the finals toxic? Because LeBron's been to eight straight finals. Is that toxic? And then yesterday, Kevin Durant talks about the greatest players of all time. He mentions Michael Jordan, Kobe Bryant, and Kyrie Irving. Ha?
Starting point is 01:26:06 Kyrie Irving, you put in with Kobe and Michael. No mention to LeBron. He puts in Kyrie who dumped LeBron. Now, come on now. Bro, you can't name the five great restaurants in America and then just throw apple bees in there and think I'm not to not notice it. You've got an agenda.
Starting point is 01:26:25 You've got a bias. You can't start talking about the great quarterbacks of all time and say, Brady and Montana and Elway and Marino and Aikman and Jimmy Garoppolo. Do you owe him a favor? Kevin Durant, you did this for a reason. Because you know the MJ thing kind of gets in LeBron's head.
Starting point is 01:26:49 And Kyrie take LeBron off. And a lot of people, Kobe fans don't like LeBron. You did this for a reason. This was not a coincidence. We know Kevin Durant why you're doing this. because you thought as the number two player in the world, when you went to Golden State and started winning titles, that would elevate you over LeBron,
Starting point is 01:27:11 and it hasn't. LeBron still is the lead story on my show and Skip Show and any debate show in America that talks NBA, LeBron's still the king, and you're just really talented. That's your identity. You're not even the most important guy in your own team. We know that through statistics. wins and losses and analytics.
Starting point is 01:27:33 When Steph's gone, warriors are average. When you're gone, they're still great. Listen, I've said this for years. Magic and Bird saved the NBA. MJ made it global, and LeBron made it mobile. When you left teams years ago, you were considered disloyal, weak. Now, if you don't go to a better team, you're a money grabber. Winning doesn't matter.
Starting point is 01:27:59 You're a diva. you're weak, you're afraid. Kevin Durant doesn't leave Oklahoma City unless LeBron left first for Miami and took all the arrows and took all the heat. LeBron's always going to be a bigger deal than Kevin Durant. Kevin's chasing ghosts. He'll never be better than LeBron.
Starting point is 01:28:20 He'll never be as relevant as LeBron. He'll never be talked about like LeBron. LeBron leaves teams they disintegrate. Kevin Durant left Oklahoma City, they're the second best team in the West right now. Golden State, one before him. If he left, they'd put boogie in.
Starting point is 01:28:38 They'd win after him. It's bothering him. First LeBron was toxic. Now you're mentioning great players and you're putting Kyrie in there. Come on, Kevin. It bothers you. Just admit it.
Starting point is 01:28:56 Let me shift to football. I should send a check to the Pittsburgh Steelers. every year, a big check, because they fill like five, six segments a week. ESPN once had to do a year-long investigation into New England to get dirt. Pittsburgh gives you dirt about twice a week. They did it again yesterday. When New England lost to Miami over the weekend, and it was kind of like controversial,
Starting point is 01:29:24 it was embarrassing. Gronk took the heat, my fault. Brady took the heat, my fault. Belichick took the heat. my fault. The story died. For the third time in about four weeks, the Pittsburgh Steelers, it is now Wednesday, are talking about a previous game, lost to Oakland, as the Patriot game is now coming up in a few days. Mike Tomlin yesterday, I swear to God I should pay the Steelers for all the segments they give me. I don't even have to work for them. I just wake up and they
Starting point is 01:29:57 give me another story. Mike Tomlin paying attention in the rearview mirror to the game they just lost was asked about Big Ben being healthy and not playing and he got into medical equipment. Because of the lack of information, we thought that the best thing to do, the most prudent thing to do, would be only to make Ben available in an emergency-like situation was exactly what we did in Cincinnati several years ago. The X-ray was not clearly readable. Can you clarify when you said after the game that you could have brought Ben back a few series earlier, but you said today that you're only going to use in an emergency situations. Is that saying he was cleared a few series earlier,
Starting point is 01:30:37 and you decided only to use him in emergency situations? Again, guys, you know, we didn't have a lot of information, so dialogue was a part of the discussion. But obviously, this thing has had legs and it has grown, and we want to minimize the senseless distractions. So I'm being very transparent with you in terms of what transpired, how, and why. It's Wednesday. The game was three days ago.
Starting point is 01:31:05 Tim Ben's columnist in Pittsburgh said, I walked into Mike Tomlin's news conference seeking clarity. For the most part, I walked out confused. You're still, for about the fourth time this year, talking about a game that's over and not focusing in on the biggest game of the year. Football's hard. Distractions make it harder.
Starting point is 01:31:27 The Steelers once again lead the NFL in distractions. I should give Big Ben and Mike Tomlin producer credits for this show. Does Pittsburgh realize that if they lose this weekend in New England and they will, they'll be seven, six and one, and probably not in first place, and facing the Saints in New Orleans next. It's Wednesday. Bill Belichick was once asked about a medical situation. Here's how he handled it. I'm a football coach. I'm not a doctor. The medical staff is medical staff. I coach the team, medical people handle the injuries. They don't call
Starting point is 01:32:06 plays. I don't do surgery. We have a great deal there. Works out good. New England buries the loss, buries the evidence, puts a wet blanket on the fire. It's Wednesday, and the Steelers are still talking about medical equipment, Big Ben, an ugly loss.
Starting point is 01:32:29 I mean, they got rid of Lavian Bell and they thought all the noise would go away. I mean, this is why New England is going to beat Pittsburgh Sunday. This is why Baltimore Ravens are chasing them. Don't hear a peep. John Harbaugh came out. Yeah, Flacco's on the bench now. Lamar starts.
Starting point is 01:32:48 Nothing leaks. Handle it quick, done, game up. New England loses a mess. My fault, my fault, my fault. Story over. Pittsburgh? I mean, God, it's like ER. I mean, it's like one of those medical shows.
Starting point is 01:33:06 Football coaches don't talk medical equipment. One of the most outspoken NBA guys, Stephen Jackson joins us next on high maintenance, rabbit ears, reacts to everything, eight podcasts a week, calling out LeBron. Kevin Durant. That's next. Cold and flu season, trivixionics nasal spray, uses direct that works up to 12 hours. Vicks Synex nasal spray. By the way, Stephen Jackson joining us who just talked to Kevin Durant today. I'll get to that in a second. You are wearing a suit with, what kind of shoes are those? Air Max. You are claiming you were the first guy to do that. I actually brought swag to it. Like, you know, guys were wearing tennis shoes, but they wouldn't wear Jordans, you know, and they weren't wearing like the new up-to-date tennis shoes that's just coming out with their suits. I've been doing that. And guys are trying to run with it, but they can't do it like I do it. you always say, it's not about
Starting point is 01:34:00 what you got on is who got it on. That's right. And it's not in you, it's on you. That too. Okay, so I've been critical I like Kevin Durant for the record. I do like him. He's great. Second best player in the league. I think Steph Curry historically will mean more to basketball. He changed the way the game
Starting point is 01:34:18 has played. I think I said this earlier. Michael, Bird and Magic saved the NBA. Michael made it global. LeBron made it mobile. that if you don't move now, people look like you're like, you're crazy. You've got to go to the better team. So Kevin Durant is just a great player.
Starting point is 01:34:35 But Kevin Durant, twice in the last couple of weeks, first he said playing with LeBron is toxic. Yeah, going to the finals toxic. Okay. And then he said yesterday he mentioned a bunch of great players, MJ, Kobe, Kyrie. What? He didn't mention LeBron. So you talk to him today. Not today, but I talked to him about it.
Starting point is 01:34:53 Okay. This is Kevin Durant. he wanted to go to Golden State win hardware and pop over LeBron and he hasn't and people still think LeBron's a man it bothers that you know what out of him doesn't it? People think that. That's not the truth though.
Starting point is 01:35:08 What's the truth? This is facts I'm speaking. LeBron, I mean, Katie has nothing but ultimate respect for LeBron. The only reason he didn't say LeBron name is when he's speaking of those guys of Kobe and Jordan, LeBron is still building his legacy. Katie knows when when people talk about
Starting point is 01:35:25 the top players in the NBA, who do they mention KD and LeBron? They don't mention really nobody else. So he understands that he's still competing with this guy. He has so much respect for this guy. I've talking to him about LeBron. He speaks highly, so it's not a shot at LeBron. Okay, then why did he bring it Kyrie? I'm going to explain that too. Jordan and Kobe, from guys that's played in the game
Starting point is 01:35:45 in the last 20 years, we understand that no player has been more relentless at winning and playing basketball than Kobe and Jordan. those two guys separate themselves. As a point guard in the league as Kyrie, he's doing a lot of stuff that we haven't seen. And he has that Kobe Jordanist attitude, not game-wise, but attitude-wise,
Starting point is 01:36:05 the mama mentality he has that he wants to win. He wants to be great. He has that attitude. And I am a fan of Kyrie as well. But when he said Kyrie name, he's not putting Kyrie in that category with Jordan and with Kobe. He's just saying that he has that attitude, that winning attitude,
Starting point is 01:36:22 and that killer instinct that Kobe and Jordan had. Because LeBron didn't have a killer instinct. You could have mentioned LeBron. Yeah, but this is the guy that I'm competing with to be the best in the game right now. Our legacies is not done. I can say Kyrie because he's a whole other position. They're not saying Kyrie is at the top of the league. They're saying LeBron is.
Starting point is 01:36:40 So this is the guy I'm competing with. And I tell you this because I know it's a fact. It's not a shot at LeBron at all because this is one guy. When I do speak to him off camera, he gives LeBron all the props in the world. But if he loves LeBron's sense, so much. Why do I hear stories that he'd rather be a clipper than a Laker? Because some guys like to build their own legacy. If me personally, if I had a chance to come to L.A. and play in L.A. and get the same amount of money, I would go to the Clippers too
Starting point is 01:37:07 because I'm building something from the Clippers never won a championship. You wouldn't play with LeBron? Why would I, when I'm fighting to be the top, when they say the best players, they're saying me and another guy. They're not just saying LeBron. So why would I want to going to be a part of what he has what he's building already. I can go to the same city, playing the same arena with a different organization and build the same thing for myself. And people can't be scared to stand on their own. First of all, I don't think Durant has the guts to go to the Clippers and be in the same
Starting point is 01:37:37 town as LeBron, who may have Anthony Davis. Because by the way, if LeBron beats him for four years, they're not going to look good for KD. Well, I guarantee if KD comes to Clippers, he won't be the only one coming. What does that do? He won't be the only one. Time out. You talked to him yesterday. Right. What does that mean? Well, we never talked about where he's going or who's coming with him.
Starting point is 01:37:57 Do you think he's staying in Golden State? If I was him, I would. Okay. If you were him, you would. Do you think he will? I don't know what he's going to do. What? I have no idea. Gut feeling. Gut feeling? I don't know.
Starting point is 01:38:11 I honestly don't know. When he was a free agent before he went to Golden State, I had a lot of thoughts of what he would do, you know? and going to Golden State was one of them. But me, all I can think now is the only situation for him is to stay there and continue to build the next. I totally agree. I would never leave. They're going to do statues.
Starting point is 01:38:29 And he could be, I mean, the way I look at, I look at everybody's legacy. I think LeBron and Kevin Durant's legacies are formed. LeBron's going to go down statistically, analytically, is the best player of all time. Now, he's not going to get the six for six like Jordan. But LeBron will go down, analytics not close, statistics not close
Starting point is 01:38:49 LeBron will play longer be greater than any player ever Kevin Durant will be the best player on the greatest team ever but not MJ and not LeBron I think Kevin Durant
Starting point is 01:39:02 falls into the 13th to 25th best player of all time so what if he's top three scoring when he's finished playing I still don't think he couldn't do anything in OKC Golden State won without him they won 73 without him
Starting point is 01:39:16 they won a title without him The downside of joining a great team. They wouldn't have three championships without it. Well, we don't know that. They lost without him. Once. Right. And they never lost with them.
Starting point is 01:39:27 With him, they ever lost. Well, they've only been in two of them. But they haven't lost. Well, so far. You're two and oh in the finals with him. Kevin Durant will never be the best player ever. He'll never be MJ. He'll never be LeBron.
Starting point is 01:39:38 I think his legacy is already formed. I don't think they'll ever give him best player ever. And I don't think anybody, anybody will ever pass Michael Jordan in my mind. All right. Well, I'm a LeBron guy over MJ, but MJ's great. But I will say this. Can we just acknowledge this? Durant, and I don't even, this doesn't even bother me.
Starting point is 01:39:58 I think it's actually funny. I kind of like it about him. He's on his phone all day and watching television and watching what people are saying about him. Maybe LeBron is too, but it doesn't appear to affect LeBron. You know what? And I have to say this because this is, this with people, they have him mistaken. Yeah, he did the fake. burner thing and all that. But he can care
Starting point is 01:40:18 less. Well, then why is he got a fake burner account? That, you know, every people make mistakes. And that's something I would never do. You know, and I told him that was weak. He should have never done that. But this guy can care less what people think. And a lot of people don't like him because
Starting point is 01:40:34 he doesn't go with the narrative. He always, he marched to the beat of his own drum. He doesn't agree what everybody else says. He has his own opinion. And when you do, when you have your own opinion, that seem to stir up a lot of people when you don't agree with everybody else think. I know. I know. So you do, if you were Kevin Durant and had to choose Lakers or Clippers, you think Clippers are better players? I would definitely go to the Clippers.
Starting point is 01:41:00 But you don't think he's going to leave. No, I don't think he's going to leave. I'd rather go play for Doc Rivers than Luke Wohl. Oh, it's a Doc Rivers thing. I just would rather play for Doc Rivers. I mean, me personally, it'll be hard for me to play on that team and respect Luke Woke. Why? I played against him. What does that mean? I mean, I play, he wasn't, I don't respect him. What?
Starting point is 01:41:23 I mean, he won championships, but. You don't, well, I mean, Eric Spolstra didn't play. He won, do you don't respect him? I respect, I respect more people, people that played the game that's been in those wars, that I can actually speak from experience. I honestly respect more. I think those guys should be the experts. Greg Popovich wasn't a great player.
Starting point is 01:41:42 He wasn't a great player, but you can't, how many Greg Popovich's are there? Right. You can't use that unicorn. Greg Popovich is rare. You got to use coaches that we see every day. They're just throwing positions. Phil Jackson wasn't a great player. You're using unicorns. Like, you're using, okay, it's four coaches that you can name like that. Now, name a coach that that's not in the top five winning.
Starting point is 01:42:06 How do you know Luke Walton isn't the next great coach? I mean, well. You think LeBron respects him? Okay, hold on. Let me ask you a good question. All right. If I was on Steve Kerr's coach staff. He got hurt and I coached that team. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:42:17 Would I be a great coach? I'm not saying that. I think everybody could win with Golden State. I'm just saying, though, he got considered a great coach after that. I think the part everybody likes about him is that this team with LeBron has got some obstacles and they've won 15 to 20. You don't think Luke Walton can coach? I don't think he's the coach for that team.
Starting point is 01:42:39 And I don't think he's, you know, I don't think he's a coach for that team. I think LeBron is doing all the coaching over there. Whoa, that's a little strong. That's the truth. It feels strong. I don't like the truth. I don't like the truth. All right.
Starting point is 01:42:53 You keep talking to KD because I like all the inside stuff you give us. I really like that. You're almost a journalist. You're a borderline journalist. Thanks for having me. Hood Journalist. With a lot of swag. All right, Joey with the news.
Starting point is 01:43:03 Turn on the news. This is the herd line news. So the endless debate about which old school NBA teams would beat this version of the Warriors. is not going to slow down anytime soon, and Shaq decided to add some fuel to the fire. He said he thinks the teams that won three straight championships, his teams, would take down the current Warriors Dynasty. He said, I think we'd easily win.
Starting point is 01:43:26 Other people might feel different. The Warriors might feel different. But we have one of the best teams of all time in 2001 when we went 15 and 1 in the playoffs. We would have gone 16 and O, but AI went off on us and stepped over to Loo, which is one of my favorite basketball moments of all time. Would we be playing?
Starting point is 01:43:42 by the rules where you could hand check and push people, then the Lakers would beat them. And if you could play by today's rules, which is a spacing shooting game, then the Warriors would win. I don't know. This teams... I've got a hard time picking against Stobey.
Starting point is 01:43:58 You couldn't have Shaq in a game late because they'd spaced the floor and Shaq would be this 300-pound guy. He was going to stop Shaq on the other end. He only scores two and just foul him and he can't hit a free throw. Remember Shaq? That Shaq was a liability at the free throw line for those Laker teams. I think it just... I think the Warriors would just send boogie after him.
Starting point is 01:44:14 They'd foul him a little bit. Send him to the line. Who could Shaq guard? He couldn't guard anybody. You'd just have Clayton. You'd have four guys out there shooting threes. What's the same one going to do with Shaq? It wouldn't matter.
Starting point is 01:44:25 Shack's only two. I get three. I get threes. He gets twos. And by the way, Shaq. I mean, I think it goes seven as opposed to going five. Here's the thing. It's in basketball, it just depends on what rules we can use.
Starting point is 01:44:38 Like, I've said this before about Michael Jordan and the Bulls. They would destroy. the Warriors, if you use Michael Jordan's rules, they would dominate Golden State because Michael and Scotty and Rodman and Ron Harper would push Steph Curry all over the floor. You could lean, like it was a totally different game,
Starting point is 01:44:54 but I still have a very hard time picking against Jack and Kobe. But Pippin and Jordan couldn't shoot threes. Worth a darn, so in today, and if Michael Jordan couldn't use the, people say, well, Michael would score 50, yeah, on twos, and Durant and Steph and Clay would hit three, so it would
Starting point is 01:45:10 be a math equation. Michael and those guys couldn't win today. But if you, now, if you did it a little bit of both. But even without the hand check and all of that, I just feel like the defense was just different. Like, nobody plays defense now. Well, you're not allowed to. You're not allowed to hand check.
Starting point is 01:45:24 So that's changing. I don't know. When you could hand check, the league was a total. So you're picking the Warriors if it's today's rules. Warriors are the greatest basketball team ever with the current rules, which is, it's a finesse spacing shooting game. But I do not think the Warriors would beat the Bulls if you, or in the 80s, like Kevin Durant would get.
Starting point is 01:45:43 You're not playing the game right. Who wins? I think the Bulls are better than the Warriors. Do you think that Shaq's 2001 team with Kobe? No. So the best team I've ever seen is Jordan's Bulls. Second best is Warriors. Third best is Shaq and Kobe's Lakers. I don't know. I think I got to pick Kobe's. And then the Rochester Royals back in the 40s where you couldn't take your eyes off them. All right. So big news for the Eagles.
Starting point is 01:46:09 They will likely be taking the field on Sunday without Carlin. Carson Wentz, according to report from NFL networks, Ian Rappaport, Wentz is dealing with a back issue and is expected not to play this weekend. And given the team standing in the current playoff race, a loss this weekend would probably spur them to sit once for the rest of the season. He's likely going to sit for the rest of the season. That's what he should do. It's kind of what's going to happen.
Starting point is 01:46:30 Now, it feels completely different from last year when he was on an MVP run, and they were rolling, and then he tore his ACL. And Nick Foles came in. Nick Folls is going to come in, but. probably not the same outcome the bigger issue is long term this is the third injury for Wence well this is a back issue
Starting point is 01:46:49 this is fourth fourth injury yeah so that's the injury is that he gets banged around a lot needs to put on 10 pounds quit running around and throw more or maybe not put on a way to do get more pliable he's also what he is is
Starting point is 01:47:02 he's a lot like Andrew Luck he's a play extender this is where Aaron Rogers gets hurt is if you've noticed Andrew Luck this year the key to Andrew Luck is balls out two and a half seconds, nobody gets Andrew Luck. Carson Wentz has to tweak his game where he gets rid of the ball, because where Wentz and Andrew Luck, and they're very similar players, they really are.
Starting point is 01:47:22 To me, when Wentz came out, I said, his high end is luck. They're good arms, smart guys, big over the, we'll throw some interceptions, we'll make plays with their feet. Their play extenders and luck, Frank Wright came in and said, dude, no more. Let's get rid of the ball within two and a half seconds. Wentz tends to hold the ball to make a play. That's where he gets hurt. So I think he's going to have to tweak his game due to the injuries.
Starting point is 01:47:46 And he'll be fine doing it, by the way. Luck tweak this game. He's still amazing. Yeah. This is disappointing season for the Eagles coming off the Super Bowl. Finally, the city of Oakland filed a lawsuit in federal court yesterday, calling the Raiders move to Las Vegas illegal and demanding compensation for hundreds of millions of dollars in losses. Mark Davis, the owner, spoke to ESPN.
Starting point is 01:48:05 He didn't have much to say except for that the lawsuit was meritless and malicious. My feeling is we're 3 and 10. We're still relevant. It's a legal issue. I'll let the attorneys make any further comments. This is a disaster. There's really, no one knows where the Raiders are going to play next season. The stadium in Las Vegas is not going to be ready until 2020.
Starting point is 01:48:25 They could be in San Diego. They could be in Santa Clara. They could be in Reno or possibly Arizona. Listen, I said this a year ago when the NFL allowed all these teams to move. They okayed the Oakland move. They okayed the Rams, Raiders, Raiders, Rams, Chargers moves. I said this when it happened. It's too much movement in one region of the country too fast, three West Coast teams.
Starting point is 01:48:51 If the Packers would have said three years ago we're moving, the NFL would have stepped in and said, no, you're not. If the Philadelphia Eagles or the Dallas Cowboys or the Pittsburgh Steelers said we're moving, the NFL would have stepped in and said, no, you're not. San Diego becoming the Chargers. the NFL could have easily said, here's a billion dollars, pay that stadium off, we'll give you a 1% loan. I love what the Chargers have done. I think the NFL absolutely knows, and they're stuck with it now, because Stan Cronkey's got a deal owner of the Rams.
Starting point is 01:49:25 I think the NFL knows the Chargers move was a mess, and the NFL picks and chooses who they want to support and who they don't. They would never let the Eagles, the Bears, the Cowboys, They would never let those teams move. They pick and choose, and I think they messed up in the San Diego, L.A. situation. I mean, I feel bad for the city of Oakland. I think long term the Las Vegas move will end up being a good one for the NFL. But the San Diego one is a disaster.
Starting point is 01:49:52 I mean, we talked about it before. If they win the Super Bowl, what do you have a big banquet? There's no parade. Where do they hold a play at? And by the way, the Oakland situation is now worse than San Diego, L.A. Oh, wow. They don't even know where they're going to play next year. It's a mess.
Starting point is 01:50:05 Thank God the Rams moves work. If that didn't work, you'd be O for three. Here's how popular the NBA is, or NFL is. The NFL butchered two relocation moves, and the ratings are up across the board. Because we love to bet it, we love to watch it, the quarterbacks are healthy. It's been an incredible NFL year. Joy with the News. Well, that's the news.
Starting point is 01:50:28 And thanks for stopping by. The Heard Line News. Speaking of that, it is remarkable how many teams, you ever heard of the Arrow Test? like who's pointing up, who's pointing down, who's flat. There are 10 teams still realistically that could get into the playoffs. Dallas, Washington, Philly, Chicago, Minnesota, Green Bay, Saints, Carolina, Rams Seahawks. That's incredible. Now, I would say the Redskins and the Eagles now with Wentz out are not as viable,
Starting point is 01:50:57 but they're still in the hunt if you look at their schedule. But, you know, for all the cowboy doubters, let's just do the arrow test. So let's look at every team of the 10 teams in the NFC and where they're trending. So the Saints, I think it's fair to say the Saints are flat. They're flat. Haven't played well. They're not going down, not dressing. They're flat.
Starting point is 01:51:17 The Rams clearly not playing as well now as a month ago. The Bears, the Cowboys, and the Seahawks are all trending up, all playing well, and all defensive lead. And then I would say Vikings trending down. Panthers absolutely trending down, eagles down, redskins down, and who the hell knows what the Packers are? I can't figure them out. But I mean, you can say what you want.
Starting point is 01:51:42 You can say what you want about the Cowboys. Of all these 10 playoff teams, three are trending up. Bears, Cowboys, Seahawks. They're certainly as good as those teams. And by the way, if they did play Seattle, they'd play them at home. So I think Dallas is in a pretty good spot.
Starting point is 01:51:59 Coming up next, who I'd love to see in the Super Bowl and who would be my absolute nightmare if they ended up in the Super Bowl. That is coming up next. Want more Heard? The Heard streams 24 hours a day, seven days a week, within the IHeart Radio app.
Starting point is 01:52:19 Search Heard to listen live or on demand whenever you'd like. Thursday night football returns tomorrow night for a huge AFC West showdown as Philip Rivers and the 10 and 3 chargers face off against Patrick Mark. homes and the 11 and 2 first place chiefs it all starts at 730 eastern on fox NFL network and streaming on prime video that is i think going to be one for the ages great great football game yeah looking for the perfect holiday gift how about the original untuck shirt on tuggett dot com code heard get you 20% off on tuckett dot com 50 retail locations as well in america so
Starting point is 01:52:56 yesterday you know before i do a show and i come in in the morning you know and i mean like t-shirt and flip-flops and I go into my I have a little room right little dressing room thing and I get to put a nice shirt on they lay shirts out for me and then I go and some people like they'll fix my hair you know they'll pull a little makeup on you like TV right you do that too yeah yes actually I I wake up and I look like this so it's very little work for anyone and yesterday somebody during that process one of the young ladies in the room said what's your ideal Super Bowl matchup. And I looked at her and I said,
Starting point is 01:53:30 that's a pretty good question. And so I thought today, for a variety of reasons, I would give you the five Super Bowl matchups. I'm not saying anything other than I think these would interest me. I think they'd be fascinating matchup. So let's go with
Starting point is 01:53:47 number five. Patriot Seahawks. That is a rematch of one of the great Super Bowls of ever, Super Bowl 49, where New England was pushed around a little early, dominates the second half, appears to have it locked up. Russell Wilson makes a great throw down the sideline,
Starting point is 01:54:06 puts him in scoring position, and Russell throws the pick by, is it Malcolm Butler? So I think that would be a classic rematch. I don't see these two as favorites, but I think it could happen. How about number four? Cowboys against anybody. Listen, the highest rated NFL game
Starting point is 01:54:27 on every network for the last several years is the Cowboys against anybody. I think this Cowboy team is really interesting because Dak Prescott is a really good talking point. We know he's great with intangibles, excellent leadership qualities, but kind of an average quarterback.
Starting point is 01:54:45 And I think it would be so ironic that of all the talented cowboy teams of all time, it would be the one with Dak Prescott where the narrative has become, can't pay him anything because he's basically being carried by the defense. Think about the Romo talent and the Romo teams and the Romo drama never got close and that this DAC team, a month ago, we like the Rams, we like the Packers, we like Carolina, we like the Sades, we weren't even mentioning them after getting blown out by Tennessee. I think the Cowboys
Starting point is 01:55:20 Against Anybody would be great. Number three, now you're going to say Colin, you're from L.A. that's why you pick the Rams Chargers. If this is the Super Bowl, first of all, the Rams would be a lot of fun. Second of all, the Chargers would be the strangest Super Bowl team ever. Where would they hold a parade? L.A. appears to be disinterested, and San Diego is still furious.
Starting point is 01:55:45 It is a completely bizarre story where I think the league deep down knows they thought they were going to connect in L.A. and they really haven't. You know, the Dodgers, LeBron Lakers, L.A. Rams, you've got your college sports. I think that would be fascinating. Number two, Chiefs Rams, Monday Night Football Rematch, Firework Show. You put these two in warm weather.
Starting point is 01:56:12 You know, it's 45, 40, a lot of stars. Mahomes, golf, the coaches are stars. McVeigh Andy Reed, Tyreeke Hill, Todd Gurley, Travis Henry, Robert Woods, in Domican Zoo, Aaron Donald, the Kib Taleb, it would just be Eric Barry, it would be just stars everywhere, and it'd be a rematch
Starting point is 01:56:30 of, I think, the most entertaining game in the NFL this year. Number one, Patriot Saints, Brady Breeze. You know, it's amazing. For all of Tom Brady's Super Bowl matchups,
Starting point is 01:56:48 they haven't been a lot of classic quarterback matchups. You know, he faced Russell Wilson when he was young and Nick Foley. and, I mean, early career, Jake Dallone, McNabb. It's like this would be all-time legends, and it would also give Drew Breeze an opportunity
Starting point is 01:57:09 if he beat Brady in the Super Bowl. And I've said this before, Joy, I think Breeze then goes above Rogers. Forget Aaron being better. I think he's already above Rogers. I do, too. I don't get the astonishment every time I say right now. I think it's because Breeze is humble and he's in New Orleans.
Starting point is 01:57:28 Right now, who's the better quarterback all time if they both retired today? Breeze. That's what I think. I mean, statistically it's not close. statistically it's not even comparable. They both have a Super Bowl. The only thing is that Breeze isn't having an MVP, which is actually kind of remarkable. When you suggest that, people are always like, whoa.
Starting point is 01:57:45 Not really. So there you go. Those would be my five Super Bowl matchups. Now, I don't really care who gets in, to be honest. I want it to be interesting. Like last year, I didn't want to see Jackson. I wanted to see, I would rather see Big Benner Brady in the Super Bowl. But we don't have the Super Bowl this year at Fox.
Starting point is 01:58:03 It's CBS. So I guess. You still have to cover it, though. You have to talk about it. I root for interesting. If my teams are not going to be in it, then I root for interesting. I don't know about that Chargers-Rams one, though. I don't know how the rest of the country is going to feel about that one.
Starting point is 01:58:14 I think they would be bored out of their mind. Yeah. Okay, but here's the one quarterback matchup that I do not want to see. In fact, we have a promo for it. Sunday, it's a battle for Super Bowl glory as Aaron Rogers and the Green Bay Packers, winners of seven straight games, look to complete their improbable playoff run, while Baker Mayfield and the Cleveland Browns look to continue their amazing run. After pulling off that shocking upset over the Patriots in the AFC Championship,
Starting point is 01:58:46 it's Packers Browns, Super Bowl 53, immediately followed by Colin Cowherd blasting himself into outer space and leaving Earth forever. Yeah. I think my Twitter account would implode if that happened. I don't think that's going to happen, but that would be, that probably not, it wouldn't be my. Yuck. Can you imagine that Monday show? No.
Starting point is 01:59:08 All those Baker Mayfield? I mean, Baker, those Baker and Aaron are incredibly interesting. It would be staggering and historic for the Browns to make it to the Super Bowl after firing their coach midseason and rookie quarterback and the Packers firing their. coach midseason and Aaron taking all this heat. What did you make of Stephen Jackson coming on the show 30 minutes ago and saying that he talked to Kevin Durant and kind of that explanation that Kevin doesn't really hate LeBron? He's just mentioning other guys. I don't think that Kevin Durant hates LeBron.
Starting point is 01:59:38 They work out together. They used to. They worked out together this offseason. You don't think Kevin Durant's jealous, LeBron? I don't know. I want to get into the jealous territory. I think that Kevin Durant did that I think he knows what he's doing when he doesn't say LeBron, but I do think that there is something psychologically to giving LeBron that space when you are competing directly against him.
Starting point is 02:00:03 Nobody puts Katie and Kyrie in the same conversation at all. Katie is a better player than Kyrie. Kyri is great, but Katie is a better player. Katie and LeBron are the comparison. And if you give even a slight psychological edge to LeBron, then that's how about. put Kate, like if you talk about great players of all time, let's say, I don't really care the exact order, but let's just say it's Michael, it's LeBron, it's Magic, Wilt, Jabar, you know, Bird, Duncan, Kobe, and again, I'm getting, I'm close, Russell, a team, you know,
Starting point is 02:00:39 you get in there, all time, Steph or KD, who's ahead? I'm just throwing it out there, who's all time. I think Steph is if you talk, because if you're talking greatest player of all time, it's not just titles. Right. Okay. It's not just points. I think the impact that you have on the game matters and Stephs transform the game. But I think that KD is, he's just like no other player. He's, he's a giant and he can shoot. No, he's, no, he's Dirk Novitsky, but better. He's just, that's what he is. He's a better Dirk Novitsky. A lot better. Yeah, I mean, well, I mean, if you go, they're both have a title, but the difference is Dirk carried his team. to a title. He didn't join anybody.
Starting point is 02:01:19 Katie is too. Yeah. Dirk carried the worst roster in league history to a title. Kevin Durant joined a team that already won a title. I feel very uncomfortable putting Dirk and Katie in the same category. Turk is an all-time great player, but Katie is different. I don't think you're that far apart right now. I don't.
Starting point is 02:01:35 Katie is not done either. If he could stay with the Warriors, Katie could end up winning four or five championships in the LeBron era. Two of them directly against LeBron and dominating him. If Kevin Durant retired today, With two titles, Dirk with one carrying him, I think they're next to each other all time. And I mean right next to each other.
Starting point is 02:01:56 No, no, I mean, Duran's got two, but they won without him. Dirk carried J.J. Borea. I mean, and the other way, they each have one MVP. I think Kevin Durant right now today and Dirk Nevetsky are inches apart. Now, over the next eight years, Durant will, he'll move away from him. LeBron didn't carry a team to a championship. No, no, no, I'm just talking in this argument. I know, but I'm saying if you're looking at LeBron's championships.
Starting point is 02:02:26 No, nobody in Cleveland, you don't think he carried Cleveland to a championship? To the finals? No, Kyrie. We had Kyrie. Kyrie was hurt, uncoachable, and went in 30 a game before LeBron. I mean, you feel like Kyrie was irrelevant? He shot the shot that won the championship. No, I'm not saying, I mean, Hittish.
Starting point is 02:02:43 telling it a bunch of shots. I don't put them in my top 50 players. I think if you look today this second, Kevin Durant and Dirk Novitsky are the same guy. No, no way. And that's no disrespect to Dirk Novitsky, but absolutely not. No. KD. is a transformative talent. You may, you will be able to make the argument if he wins two more championships that you can compare LeBron, LeBron's career. He won two championships directly against LeBron. Dirknevitzky is the first seven-footer who could shoot in the history of basketball. I don't mean to disrespect Dirk Novitsky. I'm just saying I think that KD is significantly better.
Starting point is 02:03:18 Where's Dirk on the all-time scoring list? 7th. All-time. Seven. He's played for like 30 years. I don't know. Now, I think today this comparison is giving me anxiety. I'm not going to lie to you.
Starting point is 02:03:34 K.D. Dirk, today is a coin flip. I really think it is. Okay, we've got to get out of here. Greg CoSell tomorrow, Big Football, best NFL game potentially of the year tomorrow, Kansas City and the Chargers on Fox. And I want to thank Nick Wright, Albert Brewer, Rob Parker, Stephen Jackson, all good stuff on a Wednesday. It's the heard. Last night, a blown call changed a game.
