Starting point is 00:02:32 heard. You're listening to Fox Sports Radio. Ah, here we go. It's a Thursday. This is the herd. Wherever you may be and however you may be listening. Live in Los Angeles, Iheart Radio, Fox Sports Radio, and FS1. Joy Taylor is joining me today and a Thursday tonight. Packers go to Seattle to take on the Seahawks. Loser, it's an elimination game. So it's a huge, NFL game tonight. Cannot wait to watch my team from the Pacific Northwest against Aaron Rogers. He is rarely in this situation. But I want to start with the Lakers and LeBron. Joy, I went to the game last night. Yes, you said many times yesterday you were going to the game. And? Well, Big J. Journalism, always representing now after the third cocktail, it didn't feel like
Starting point is 00:03:23 journalism to me. And LeBron did talk to me. But let's not get into that stuff. Right, right, right. It's ironic that I went to the game that LeBron surpassed. wilt. We always compare quarterbacks and we always compare basketball players. To me it was always obvious is that Kobe was MJ. When Kobe came into the league,
Starting point is 00:03:45 he almost sounded like MJ. They played like MJ. They had the same games. But LeBron, because he's the only person to ever threaten Michael Jordan is the best player of all time, and I do think analytically it's not close, and I do think he can do far more, far more than Michael ever could.
Starting point is 00:04:01 So I have LeBron number one all time. Michael's number two, but they're both great. But that's not what this rant's about. This rant is about LeBron James has never been Michael. He's always been 30% magic, 30% wilt, and 40% alien. I've never seen anything like him. My two takeaways from watching LeBron in person, number one is, he is so much better than everybody else.
Starting point is 00:04:29 a 6'9, 257 pound forward should not also be the best ball handler. And last night the best shooter. And have the best vision. And be the best leader. Power forwards. We're supposed to physically dominate you. Oh, LeBron can do that. That's what Wilt did.
Starting point is 00:04:51 But when you watched LeBron, Damien Lillard's the second best NBA player on that floor last night. And the gap is the Grand Canyon times four. Bigger, stronger, faster last night, a better shooter than the guard. And by the way, if Tom Brady, with all his passion, with all his pre-snap acumen, if Tom Brady had Aaron Rogers' arm, Russell Wilson's feet, and Cam Newton's size, imagine that. That's what LeBron is. LeBron just broke Wilk Chamberlain's scoring records. I want you to think about that.
Starting point is 00:05:33 LeBron's not a score. He's not. He doesn't have an iconic shot like the Skyhook, the George Gervyn Finger Roll. He didn't play with a top point guard to get him freebie points like Caram alone. Michael Jordan's a score. Kobe's his score.
Starting point is 00:05:50 They should be the all-time scores. Wilt was a score. Kareem with a skyhook. LeBron has none of that. He is not the flawless, natural, gifted shooter. He's a 6-9 freight train who is developed into one of the great clutch three-point shooters in this league. So my first takeaway, whenever I watch LeBron, and especially when I watch him in person, he is so much better than everybody else.
Starting point is 00:06:16 And the second thing that I've really noticed, the last couple of times I've watched him in person, he's really smart. The game now comes to him. He only has to put the cape on and save the team and go Superman about twice a night. He has these sort of turbo microbursts for two or three minutes. He had him last night. And then you realize, oh, he's taking things over. He's allowing the game to develop, the young players to develop.
Starting point is 00:06:44 And then he kind of feels like, ooh, Brandon Ingram just hit a three. Oh, we just hit a two. Let me take over for four minutes and change the game and win it. But he only does that now. times. He doesn't chase people down for the shot blocks like he used to his first six, seven years in the league. He is super efficient. He doesn't need the 99 mile an hour fastball all but about nine times a game. No wasted motion, no wasted energy. It's brilliant, really. And not a surprise from the smartest player in the NBA for the last decade or more. Here's LeBron surpassing Wilt last night. Let's watch.
Starting point is 00:07:23 LeBron drives is foul. Count it. James number five all time on the NBA scoring list. I mean, this guy is passing legends that are no one-name basis. Unbelievable. You're playing this great, this leg. By the way, I always felt that Michael Jordan sees a lot of himself in Russell Westbrook. When I think of Michael Jordan, I think of relentless, great athlete, incredibly,
Starting point is 00:08:04 insanely competitive. That's Westbrook. Michael's just a more efficient version of Westbrook. That's why Michael loves Westbrook. By the way, I've always seen LeBron James as a more mature, a more focused, a more driven version of Wilt. And watching him in person's an absolute pleasure, and my takeaways are always, he is so much better than he than. even other great players. And my second takeaway is he has now matured so well. He's as great as he's ever been. He just now picks his spots and lets the game come to him.
Starting point is 00:08:51 There was one of those little microbursts last night. And they're quick. He does it two or three times. And he seizes on the opportunity. Portland led for much of the game early. then they started to falter. Here comes the burst. Browdy blocks it.
Starting point is 00:09:09 LeBron blocks it at the other end. Here we go. LeBron James. Spinning. LeBron all the way. Scores it. LeBron James. This crowd is absolutely going nuts.
Starting point is 00:09:22 30% will, 30% magic, and 40% I don't know, incredible Hulk. Let me shift gears to this. Aaron Rogers, tonight, this is another job. joy. This is another big, stand-alone, major TV game with Aaron Rogers facing one of those contemporary stark quarterbacks that we always put him ahead of. You know, we always put them ahead of Matt Ryan. We always put him ahead of Drew Brees. We always put him ahead of Cam Newton. We put him ahead of Matt Ryan. Many of you put him ahead of Tom Brady. And we get a couple of these a year, these big Aaron Rogers games. And here's what's interesting when
Starting point is 00:10:07 Aaron Rogers faces the other great quarterbacks that you always put them ahead of, Brady, Breeze, Matt Ryan, Cam Newton, Andrew Locke, Russell, you always put him ahead of those. It's funny because Aaron doesn't win a lot of those games. Let's take this year. He faced Tom Brady Week 9. He lost, and then he faced Jared Goff week 8. He's one of the great young players, and he lost that one. And then last year he faced Cam Newton off the injury week 15 and lost. And then he faced Matt Ryan in week two and he lost. He did face Russell Wilson last year at home and won.
Starting point is 00:10:44 But two years ago, he faced Matt Ryan, NFC championship, and lost. He faced Russell, Wilson, and won. And then he faced Andrew Luck and lost and faced Matt Ryan and lost. When is winning going to matter in these big things? standalone contemporary star quarterback versus contemporary star quarterback. When's the winning part going to matter? But his defense, it's 11th, first in sacks, fifth in past defense. Those numbers tonight are even or better than Russell Wilson.
Starting point is 00:11:17 When Drew Brees, who doesn't make excuses, faces his contemporaries, the last 10 times Drew Brees has faced, you know, those great quarterbacks, he's six and four. The last 10 times Tom Brady has faced contemporary quarterbacks in that small group. He's 9 and 1. Aaron Rogers last seven years. Green Bay has got a losing record on the road. O' and 3 against Russell Wilson in Seattle faces him again tonight. I am by no means not saying Aaron Rogers isn't great.
Starting point is 00:11:54 But God, you hold LeBron and Kevin Durant and Tom Brady. Camm Newton and Big Ben. You hold all these stars in sports to actually winning games. Hell, you hold them to winning championships, which I, championships is about luck and timing and your coach and your roster. I'm just looking for more Aaron Rogers wins in the regular season against contemporary star quarterbacks. The guys you always slot him ahead of, Matt Ryan, Cam Newton, Andrew Luck,
Starting point is 00:12:29 Russell Wilson, Drew Brees, Tom Brady. It's time for some wins. I don't want to hear excuses. They're number one in the NFL in Sacks, top five pass defense. Number 11 in total defense, Seattle's 10 by like 15 yards. It's time to start winning these. We hold everybody else, every other quarterback. We hold.
Starting point is 00:12:57 Where are the championships? or the titles, we're the players. I'm not even asking for that with Aaron Rogers. I'm just asking, you know, when you face these big standalone TV games that don't aren't always at home and comfortable Lambo, that you have to go on the road for these, that you have to face a team that's also got some good players, I'm just asking that you can win some of these. I'm not demanding Super Bowls.
Starting point is 00:13:20 I'm not demanding an FC championships. Fans do. We hold everybody else accountable in sports. LeBron, Kevin Durant, Steph Curry, Tom, Tom, Brady, Drew Breeze, big bet. We hold everybody accountable. Can I just hold Aaron Rogers accountable to win one of these big television games that stand alone against the contemporary quarterback? Just asking.
Starting point is 00:13:43 Coming up next, the rumors on Kevin Durant to the Lakers are now past rumors. They're now being confirmed by multiple legitimate sources. And I've just got one question for you. if it happens. Just one. That's coming up next. Be sure to catch live editions of the herd weekdays in noon Eastern, 9 a.m. Pacific on Fox Sports Radio, FS1, and the IHard Radio app.
Starting point is 00:14:12 Car shopping's confusing. A lot of terms. Dealer, price, list, price. Here's what's not. Go to truecar.com. Check out their true price. Save three grand up MSRP. Clarity.
Starting point is 00:14:22 You'll know what you want. The fees, accessories. Joy Taylor is joining us. And so now, Now, you go from like rumors to legitimate rumors to while something is happening, right? And there have been discussions that Kevin Durant's not happy with, you know, the whole vibe in Golden State. And, you know, you heard rumors, but now they're intensifying. Stephen A. Smith yesterday said he's told Lakers lead for Kevin Durant.
Starting point is 00:14:50 I don't know that to be true, but he's broken some stories. We also have a source a couple of days ago, an anonymous warrior player saying, Katie is out of here. Now we've got this from Marcus Thompson of the Athletic, according to multiple sources. Draymond Green reminded Durant, dude, we won without you here. Green let out his frustrations. This is part of the impending exit. So we've got multiple sources.
Starting point is 00:15:16 So my first takeaway on this is there's probably some truth to it. These are legitimate people. We don't make stuff up. That doesn't mean guys like me aren't wrong on our sources, but we just don't make stuff up. And I'm not a reporter. These are reporters often. Their job, their livelihood, their blood, their legacies on reporting stuff. So I trust those.
Starting point is 00:15:36 If you're tired of Golden State's dynasty, you should be happy with this, right? If you're tired of the Silicon Valley smugness, the political progressiveness, the smarter than you, Steve Kerr, this is great. Kevin Durant's leaving. And oh, by the way, if he does go to Los Angeles, LeBron and Kevin Durant would crush the warriors. it would not be competitive. Two guys in the NBA have averaged over 30 against the Warriors in their career, Kevin Durant and LeBron. And let me tell you something, even when he loses a final, they can't stop LeBron.
Starting point is 00:16:09 LeBron is a hot knife through butter against the Warriors. And Kevin Durant would eat Draymond Green alive. And the Warriors would be then led by increasingly brittle Steph Curry, who I love, but he's brittle. You'd now have to overpay for hot and cold Clay Thompson. low-skilled Draymond Green who plays defense and not much else, and the enigmatic boogie cousins would probably sign a deal. Check please.
Starting point is 00:16:38 First, second round, it's over. But never forget this. If you don't like cold, move to a warm place. And if you don't like heat, move to Alaska. But don't complain if you love the NBA about dynasties. Because in the 60s, the Celtics won 11 titles and 13. years. Long before player mobility, we had the most dominant dynasty in NBA history. And then in the 80s, Magic in the Lakers, Bird and the Celtics won eight titles combined. And then in the 90s,
Starting point is 00:17:11 six of eight years, Michael Jordan's Bulls won. The only time they didn't, he went to play baseball. Then Kobe and Chack won three straight. The Spurs won five and 15 years. LeBron got to eight straight finals and now Golden State looking for the third straight, this is what the NBA is. This is what the NBA has always been. You do get this as basketball. At the AAU level, there's like six AAU teams in the country that win every year. And in college basketball, there's like six programs that dominate the tournament. And like in the NBA, because you've only got five starters and eight guys in the rotation,
Starting point is 00:17:54 basketball relies on the fewest people. And when you get one or two stars, maybe three that converge, it's over. But it was over in the 60s. And we had dynasties. We had dynasties with Red Arbach and dynasties in the 80s and dynasties in the 90s and dynasties in San Antonio and dynasties in big markets and dynasties in small markets. So if we're going to have another one, here's my only question. Lakers, K.D. LeBron.
Starting point is 00:18:22 You don't like that dynasty? Time out. So you're so fascinated with Jalen Brown and Al Horford. You want that one for seven years. Oh, my bad. That sounds fascinating. You're so fascinated with Janice, Chris Middleton, and Eric Bledsoe. You want that dynasty for eight years.
Starting point is 00:18:46 Sorry, not that interested. You're so fascinated with Kyle Lowry, Kowai Leonard, and Jonas, Villan Junis. You want that dynasty for eight years. really bra if you go to the steakhouse or to the best ribby they have it is inevitable basketball at every level is the sport of dynasties because one or two players can dominate the game if you're given me an option on dynasties knock yourself out with the al Horford Gordon Hayward one with the Chris
Starting point is 00:19:24 Middleton one with the Kyle Lowry Kauai one bruh I'll take KD and LeBron and the Lakers and the Palm Trees one. Joy Taylor with the news. No, no, no, no, turn on the news.
Starting point is 00:19:40 This is the herd line news. All right, well the Steelers had kept Levy on Bell's locker saved all season in anticipation of him possibly coming back. and the missed deadline officially meant it was time to move on. So following yesterday's practice, Steelers players removed Bell's nameplate and then rated the contents of his locker. Oh, brother.
Starting point is 00:20:03 His locker had some personal items, some shoes and clothes, and it was divided amongst the team. And here's Bud Dupree thinking. Levyon. I appreciate it, my guy. I appreciate the click, my guy, man. I know what I'm saying? But I hope you're the best, man.
Starting point is 00:20:18 We wish your success, my guy. I appreciate it click, man. I'm taking all. on for now, but what's the little. So I thought this was a little weird, and apparently this is not normal. So I don't really know what to make of this. It's, I would have thought that the,
Starting point is 00:20:35 the equipment manager would have emptied his locker room a second that he didn't show up. That's what they do when you leave any job. Right. Like, leaving it there for a couple days. If you left, I wouldn't go and rummage your office. Yeah, I mean, yes. Yeah, exactly.
Starting point is 00:20:49 Like, it's very odd. Like, oh, it was like free stuff. I mean, I could see if he had like a bunch of giveaways in there or something or if he told them to take whatever's left. But I just would imagine that the equipment manager would just avoid this situation entirely by emptying it and sending him whatever was in his locker. The whole thing's been just weird. It does feel very weird.
Starting point is 00:21:06 Yes. It feels a little bit, um, I mean, I don't want to call it disrespectful because I don't know the maybe Levion told them to go through it. Yeah. But being that he didn't bother to text Ben back about returning, it's, it seems. She's a bit odd. Yeah. All right.
Starting point is 00:21:21 So, Eagles Center, Jason Kelsey, says the four and five Eagles have seen a drop in accountability from last year's Super Bowl team. He said this was brought on by the departure of some key veterans. The biggest thing that you see, in my opinion, from this team to last year, at least offensively, is the cohesion, the people being accountable to the job that they're asked to do, everybody being on the same page. You know, last year, it just seemed like everything was clicking. Everybody, you know, we had guys like, you know, Brent,
Starting point is 00:21:50 Selik, who'd been here a long time, who's very accountable. Tori Smith, who'd been in the league for a long time, very accountable. That's what we're missing. We're missing that accountability. Ah, interesting. I don't want to be, I told you so, guy. You don't? I don't, but in this instance, the word he keeps using is accountable,
Starting point is 00:22:07 meaning, oh, we made a little money last year. Everybody went out and bought a jet ski, and now they show up to late to practice. This is again, everybody treats losing in pro sports the same. Pro athletes put their head down, they're pissed, they work hard. how do you deal with winning? That's where New England separates. They handle winning like grown-ups. Right.
Starting point is 00:22:27 I don't want to say it's easier to try and get to the top, but once you're at the top, it's very hard to stay at the top. Very hard. Success is not that easy to manage. By the NFL's trying. No money more problems. That's what it is.
Starting point is 00:22:39 So when you win, they give you a first-place schedule, and you don't get good draft picks, and they limit you on, I mean, the NFL's not trying to help you create a dynamist. dynasty. So Philadelphia fell into all the traps. The coach wrote a book. They lost some good coordinators. Well, it's human nature to get to get comfortable once you have some level of success or reach, which will reach your goal. You then have to re-inspire yourself to get back to the place where you were hungry as you were before. And they've had a significant drop off.
Starting point is 00:23:12 If you look at the rankings, their red zone touchdown percentage, they were first last year, they were 17th now point differential. They were tied for first at 14. 14th now. Takeaways. They were fourth. They're not tied for 28. Here's the thing, Joy. What do they do really well?
Starting point is 00:23:28 Because if I take the top 7, 8 teams in the league, I can say, okay. Okay, Atlanta throws the ball really well. And the Saints stop the run and they're efficient. What does Philadelphia do well? They don't do anything well. They're okay at almost everything. And last year, they were the most aggressive. They were so good on third down.
Starting point is 00:23:48 They were so good on fourth down. had the best pass rush. They're O-L-L-I-this year, they're just B-minus to C-plus at everything. And to that Jason-C-C-C-Polts, they're just not as accountable. They're just the details aren't as good this year. Well, it's the game of inches, so the details are important. So the Lakers will be without Rajan Rondo for the next four weeks. He broke his hand last night.
Starting point is 00:24:14 And while talking to reporters, LeBron made it clear how much he will be missed. I mean, it's tough. I mean, he's one of our captains, one of our leaders. But I heard we got great surgeons here and out there. So I get right to it. Start his rehab as fast as possible getting him back. But it's next man up. It's next man up.
Starting point is 00:24:35 You know, Rondo, I hate the fact of what he's going through right now. But we all have to pick him up in his absence. By the way, I'll say it again. I don't think he's that valuable. You know who is shockingly valuable to this team? Javelle McGee. Because now they have Tyson. Chandler first team rim protector, Javale McGee's second team. I'm sitting there last night in my
Starting point is 00:24:55 very good seats. And my takeaway is they really depend on Javelle McGee down low. LeBron loves him. LeBron loves Tyson Chandler. LeBron's always loved when somebody else can do the dirty work at the rim defensively. LeBron would rather get out on the break and control the ball. As he should. Yeah, as he should. You can tell LeBron really likes Tyson Chandler and he really appreciates Javail McGee, who was a kooky-madukee for about eight years in this league, and something's grown up. He's a much, he's really dialed in. He's still got a little bit of that. He does.
Starting point is 00:25:28 But for the most part, he's been, he's been crucial for them. And this is a good opportunity for Lonzo to step up. Lonzo's been a lot more efficient this year. And it's, you know, it's his team now. So if he brings that energy and the spark that he's been bringing, he'll be good to go. And he shot well, Lonzo shot well last night. Joy Taylor with the news. Well, that's the news.
Starting point is 00:25:48 and thanks for stopping by. The Heard Lye News. He's my guy. He's our voice of NBA basketball top reporter. Opinionist Chris Broussard, FS1 NBA analyst. Last night, I went, I had very good seats. I saw you. We'll show later in the show there appears to be video of.
Starting point is 00:26:06 LeBron actually did look over and say something. He said something to me. Oh, really? Yeah. Can you share? I couldn't exactly tell what he said, but he was laughing. The one will have video later. He turned to me at the free throw line.
Starting point is 00:26:18 He was in a block and he turned to me and listen, he watches stuff. He's aware. Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. So let's just get to the incident of the week because we've got too many legitimate sources now. And this is what's fun about the NBA. NFL dynasties usually end due to injuries and free agency. NBA dynasties end due to egos. Kobe and Shack didn't like each other.
Starting point is 00:26:38 Reinsdorf and Michael Jordan didn't like each other. That's just the way the big three got tired of each other. Pat Riley and LeBron wore each other out. LeBron Kyrie. This is the way it's happening. So now in Golden State. here's the tear in the fabric. Give me your sourcing on Kevin Durant and Draymond Green
Starting point is 00:26:53 and these multiple accounts now that KD is just over, over this whole mess. Well, I'm hearing a lot of the same thing that's obviously been reported, and some people have told me the feeling is that the one thing that really bothers KD more than anything is what? This notion that he went to the band, he joined the bandwagon. that he didn't really do anything to win these championships. I'm telling you, you won't find a person throughout the league that doesn't know how great of a player Kevin Durant is.
Starting point is 00:27:26 However, you talk to former players or people in front offices or whatever, a lot of times you hear people say, but there's an asterisk. And he was not going to get past that until he's out of Golden State. And so for Draymond, he and Draymond are close. He's probably shared this with Drayman. man, you know, I'm pissed off that people keep saying this about, you know what I mean, or whatever. And for Draymond, they hit him there, you know, in front of everybody else, that is deep-rooted. And so there's that.
Starting point is 00:28:01 As far as the ramifications of this, I believe Kevin Durant was leaving anyway. The only question is, is he leaving after this season or will he play a first season in the New San Francisco Arena and then leave after that? So I don't think long term, like, it's going to have, the only question is, does it force Durant to leave earlier and does it impact them this season? The good news for them is this November. This happened in November. You got six months to rectify this. One, we've seen teams where guys didn't get along, and they still won. Shaq and Kobe.
Starting point is 00:28:37 There's always talk about Bird and McHale or Bird and Ains didn't get along. You know, so you've seen this before. They can still win. but they also have a lot of time to settle it. And I do think it could be settled. I think if Draymond just goes to Durant sincerely, like, look, man, I felt like you was talking to me like a flunky. You know, you was calling me out right there on the court.
Starting point is 00:29:00 And Draymond, I think Durant was wrong for that because Draymond is a playmaker. Dremont, if you look at that film, he was, if he had kept the ball, he was going to either make a pass to Clay or to Kevin Looney right under the basket for the win. or if Durant had been running the floor hard, he could have been wide open. So, Drayman's a player. You don't talk to him like he's some rookie scrub. So if Drayman goes to Durant, like, look, man, I was just upset, man. You know me.
Starting point is 00:29:27 I get emotional. Look, you know I know how important you are to us. I was the one calling you after game seven of the finals. We need you. You know I know that. So if you're sincere in your apology and then you apologize in front of the team, too. You tell the team, too. then I think they can move on and be fine.
Starting point is 00:29:47 If they try to just, we give each other the silent treatment, yeah, we got a job to do. We're going to win games. But then that could become problematic. All right. The Durant to L.A. rumors. What do you make of it? Look, somebody who is not in Durant's inner circle,
Starting point is 00:30:05 but does talk to him and see him regularly, told me Durant has told him he's never wanted to play with LeBron. They're friends. It's not about. not like LeBron. It's about I wanted to compete with him and beat him. So there's that. The second thing is, if Drayman, as we know, he hit Durant where it hurts,
Starting point is 00:30:27 would that make Durant move out of spite? Oh, y'all think y'all better without, y'all think y'all don't need me. Bob Myers, I remember that joke at the parade. You know, Draymond, you going at me. Y'all think y'all don't need me. Let me go to the place where I know we can beat you. immediately. So does he move out of spite? You know, so there is...
Starting point is 00:30:49 By the way, if he teams up with LeBron, they beat the Warriors immediately. Right. They would be the team to beat. There's no doubt. The two guys in the league that have torn up the Warriors are KD and LeBron. There would be no reason they shouldn't beat the Warriors. Badly. Right. So there's that. But then, you know, if, again, the one, what is the thing that eats Durant up the most? This notion that you just join the bandwagon. If you go to LeBron and win, that's not going away.
Starting point is 00:31:17 That really becomes your legacy that, man, you just kept riding the gravy train. And yeah, you were great, but still you went to ready-made situations where you would win. The only way he can get rid of that image is by going to the Clippers. And I'm going to tell you, if he went to the Clippers with Kauai, they would be tremendous. If he went to the Clippers by himself with all those dogs, they'd, They got unselfish players. They got some shooting. They got a championship coach.
Starting point is 00:31:47 They would be great. Other places, New York, Brooklyn, that depends on, I believe, what happens with, assuming Kauai's not thinking about those places. That depends on what happens with Kyrie Irving and Jimmy Butler. If they stay put, I don't see Durant going to the Knicks by himself. No. And certainly not Brooklyn by himself. But Kyrie grew up a Nets fan.
Starting point is 00:32:10 If he and Durant wants to team up and go there together, maybe they would do that. And then somebody who talks to Durant told me this too yesterday. Not saying it's a frontrunner, not saying this high on the list, but don't necessarily rule out Oklahoma City. Oh, come on. Because here's the thing, Colin. I've seen that. Here's the thing. How many times can you eat at Applebee's?
Starting point is 00:32:34 He can reopen his KD's restaurant. I went there every time I was in Oklahoma City. Good soul food. But if he, here's the thing about Oklahoma. I don't think he's going. I'm just saying, let's not erase it like we did before. Because they would be ready. They wouldn't be as ready made as the Lakers or Golden State.
Starting point is 00:32:55 So you could get away from that image. But with Westbrook and George, Paul George. Westbrook can't stay healthy anymore. Dennis Schrooter. They would be a great team. I'm just saying. I'm just saying you lost me. Finally, I was at the game in person last night,
Starting point is 00:33:16 and I didn't go in the media section. I sat amongst the peeps. Yeah, y'all saw you there, right there on the court side. Every time there was a loose ball or something, I see you. By the way, I caught a loose ball, Joy, left hand, ref looked at me, and he went, seriously, but it was a nice play. So anyway, I was with one with the NBA Association. I mean, look at this.
Starting point is 00:33:38 You were getting into it, too. Well, it was a block. How do we not get into that? Wow. Okay, so here's my whole thing. When I see LeBron in person, my two takeaways are he's so much better than everybody else and he now lets the game come to him. He has these microbursts.
Starting point is 00:33:52 Give me 30 seconds. When you go see him live instead of TV, what's your takeaway on him? That's why you know he's the best player in the world. Because you can just look at numbers. There are a lot of guys, not a lot, but other guys putting up numbers similar to LeBron's. And this year even better. but when you see him in person, it's the way he controls the game.
Starting point is 00:34:15 Absolutely. Whether it's scoring or not. Right. It's his game. Because Kevin Durant, when Steph's not there, Kevin Durant plays like LeBron. But he can't control a game like LeBron.
Starting point is 00:34:26 Thank you. And look, LeBron is the size of Carl Malone. I mean, they're different body structures, but they're the same size. And he's out there throwing passes like magic. He was shooting threes from Steph Curry.
Starting point is 00:34:40 range. He was blocking shots like Elijah Ryan. I mean, last night, that was phenomenal that individual performance. Oh, he was so great. So when you see a guy as big as Carl Malone doing the things he's doing on the perimeter. Who has the best vision on the court, is the best passer on the court. Right. I mean, it's just, I say
Starting point is 00:34:56 30% will, 30% magic, 40% incredible Hulk, never seen anything like him. It's Chris Brousar. I was with you, the whole thing until Kevin Durant's going to go back to Applebee's. No, no, no. I didn't say going to go back. I'm just saying if there's a list, they're somewhere on there.
Starting point is 00:35:12 Low, but they're somewhere on there. That's all. Okay, Chris Broussard. Coming up next, I have to call out the American sports media. I'm going to disassociate myself from the American sports media. The silliest thing I've ever read about Tom Brady. The silliest criticism ever. Next, it's the hurt.
Starting point is 00:35:30 Cold and flu season, try Vick-Synex nasal spray. Last up to 12 hours when congestion strikes uses directed Vick-Synex nasal spray. I haven't had a bad, I haven't had a bad, I haven't had a cold in a long time, but it's coming. It's coming. January, February, I get one every year. It's coming. When we were little, my grandpa, if we had a sniffle, would cover us in Vicks.
Starting point is 00:35:51 Yes. I still use it today. Joy Taylor's joining me. All right, listen. I understand the media. You're looking for stories. I don't even consider myself part of the media anymore. I don't.
Starting point is 00:36:03 I think J. Journalism's gone? No, I'm doing my own level of journalism. They're doing fake news. I'm doing journalism. Okay. This story is stupid. Headline. Passing stats are up around the NFL, but Tom Brady's are down.
Starting point is 00:36:20 Let me continue. Brady's averaging 7.4 yards a pass this year. The NFL average is 7.5. What does he throw in left-handed out there? The story continues. Brady is completing 65.2% of his passes. The NFL averages 65.1. What is going on?
Starting point is 00:36:41 He was the MVP last year. The story is asinine. You ever seen the TV show chopped? It's that food show. They bring in a bunch of people and they give you four ingredients. They give you licorice and avocado, maple syrup and horse meat. And they ask you to make the world's greatest pork chop.
Starting point is 00:37:02 Let's just say this out loud. Tom Brady's leading receiver this year is a running back. His slot receivers coming off ACL surgery. his best running back is a rookie who's been hurt all year, his tight ends in his last year and has one touchdown, and his best deep threat has played sparingly the last five years and joined the team in mid-season. And you'll wonder why Tom's not the leading MVP guy.
Starting point is 00:37:32 Folks, Tom Brady this year has beaten Houston. They lead their division. Chicago, they lead their division. Kansas City. They lead their division. Oh, and he beat Andrew Luck and Aaron Rogers. Are we kidding here? Say it out loud.
Starting point is 00:37:50 He's got an old slot receiver off a torn ACL, a tied end with one touchdown in his last year, a rookie running back who's been hurt all season. His leading receivers are running back, and his best deep threat has personal issues, perhaps some addiction, and has played sparingly the last five years. And you wonder why he's not,
Starting point is 00:38:12 tearing it up. The media now makes stories up to take shots at the current NFL dynasty. Patrick Mahomes has the best play designer in the league as his coach, the fastest player on the outside in Tyreek Hill, a top five running back in Kareem Hunt, the number two receiver, Sammy Watkins is a number one on many teams, and Travis Kelsey is the best tied end. Yes, Patrick Mahomes should be tearing it up. The Patriots receiving leaders are number one, a running back, number two, a guy that played sparingly for half a decade, number three, Gronk, who Sunday may not play again, number four, a slot receiver off an ACL surgery, and number five, Chris Hogan, who can't outrun me to that camera. Okay. No, no, really, the media.
Starting point is 00:39:07 It really is. Not fake news doesn't exist. That's fake news. and the guys are real bum, must be throwing left-handed. I mean, let's be honest here. We're just making crap up. We are just making crap up. Well, people have been wishing for the downfall of the Patriots
Starting point is 00:39:23 and the crack in Tom Brady for many years. So any kind of statistic that can kind of maybe point to the decline is happening. We have two dynasties in football right now. We have the Alabama one and the New England one. The Alabama one's a very easy one to root against. Nick Saban refused. is to go on the road out of conference. Nick Saban plays Citadel three times a year.
Starting point is 00:39:48 He could play real teams. Nick Saban always conveniently has a buy before the biggest games. They manipulate their schedule. Now, they're very, very good, but never forget in his fourth year, he lost three games. And then he stopped going on the road out of conference. Nick's been manipulating the better part this decade. He has been manipulating the last five years of this dynasty. I'm not saying they wouldn't still be great, but they're manipulated.
Starting point is 00:40:18 New England's beating people. They don't make their own schedule. It's not their fault that dolphins can't get their act together. I mean, I'm never going to root against a professional dynasty. College dynasties are easy to root against. The better you are, the more games you win. The better you are, the better players you get. The coach has too much power.
Starting point is 00:40:36 He can manipulate the schedule. Mike Shoshchevsky can totally manipulate Duke's schedule. 30% of the schedule, they can play all games at home. I mean, the big game for Alabama this year was in Orlando against Louisville. Louisville since fired their coach. It was such a mess. New England beat Houston leads their division. Kansas City leads their division.
Starting point is 00:40:56 Chicago leads their division. Beat Aaron Rogers. Beat Andrew Luck. That's hard for me to hate that. I will say this. Did I tell you I went to the Laker game last night? I had incredible seats. You mentioned that.
Starting point is 00:41:10 Here's the thing. So let's just take Golden State out of it. You guys all keep telling me the Lakers have no, and I'm not trying to be a homer here, but Portland's got the second best record 10 and 4 in the West. So they're the second team in the West right now, Portland. They were a third seed last year, and I watched that game last night.
Starting point is 00:41:32 Lakers are better than Portland. It's the second time they beat them. The Lakers are seventh in the West right now. But the Lakers also had a new star and had to, Jerry Rigg and the chemistry and it's all new pieces. Portland brought back the same dudes. Portland brought back the same coats, the same stars, the same back court, the same front court, the same players.
Starting point is 00:41:50 Lakers are all new players. They're all new. Rondo, Lance Stevenson, Javelle McGee, Beasley, LeBron. They've never, you know, never worked with Luke Walton. We knew the chemistry would be an issue. I mean, by the way, Lonzo didn't even play. He was hurt last year so much. Brandon Ingram missed 30 games. I mean, I watched that game last night,
Starting point is 00:42:08 And I'm sitting there watching, like when I go to games, I kind of watch as a scout. I'm kind of watching as, you know, I'm trying to kind of like, how do these teams match up? Portland's got three guys who can really play. Three guys scored 75 of their points. Lakers have like seven guys that can play. Javelle McGee can play. Tyson-Channler was great last night in spots. Lonzo was hot.
Starting point is 00:42:27 LeBron was great. We know Rondo can play. I mean, so Brandon Ingram, though he's frustrating, can play. He's not as good as I wish he was. I think I'm waiting for him to pop, but everybody just said, the West right now, take Golden State out. Lakers aren't the second best team. They're long, they're athletic, they've shored up some defense. I'm not saying they're winning the West, but this idea they're going to be at the bottom,
Starting point is 00:42:59 I just don't buy it. And their schedule next three games are three Ws, Orlando, Miami, and Cleveland. Greg CoSell NFL meat sandwich next. Hour two, here we go. This is The Herd, wherever you may be and however you may be listening live in Los Angeles, Iheart Radio, Fox Sports Radio, and right here, FS1. Congratulations to Fox Sports. We just signed a long-term deal with Major League Baseball, digital stuff, world series playoffs, more regular season. It's the most watched, attended, excuse me, sport in America, has been for years.
Starting point is 00:43:31 It's huge in big markets. Philadelphia, San Francisco, New York, Boston, Detroit, Texas, Dallas. So Fox, Major League Baseball signed a long deal. Tonight, Packers and the Seahawks play. And my feeling is it's a field goal game. It's an elimination game. It's contemporary quarterbacks meeting. Aaron's beaten Russell a couple times.
Starting point is 00:43:51 Russell's never lost to Aaron in Seattle. And here we go. I'd probably coin, flip it and go with the Seahawks. Let me just say this, though. I don't want to hear any excuses. We all make choices in life. when Aaron Rogers decided to take a $34 million a year deal, he made choices. And the choice is, I'm going to play with a younger team for the rest of my career.
Starting point is 00:44:12 And that's okay. Aaron Jones, a very good young running back. And they've got a couple of really nice young wide receivers and a really good rookie corner. But that's a choice he made. Okay. Years ago, Drew Brees took the money. and the Saints went 7 to 9, 7 to 9, 7 to 9, because they couldn't afford an offensive line or a pass rush.
Starting point is 00:44:36 And then Drew Brees took a pay cut and got a break. Back-to-back years, the Saints hit it out of the park with two great drafts, nailed it, crushed it, and that's how they rebounded. So right now, the MVP of the Packers is Aaron Rogers. The second MVP of the Packers is their scouting department. But I don't want to hear excuses about, well, you know, Aaron's really smart. I always say this about people. You can't be brilliant and tell me you're brilliant and then get conveniently stupid.
Starting point is 00:45:06 Bill Belichick is too smart to say, yeah, I didn't know anything about filming practice. Now, you knew filming the Jets was not right, Bill. You knew that. You can't be Bill Belichick and that's smart and then say, no idea was filming the Jets sideline. You knew. Deflate Gates a bunch of hooey. SpyGate was real. can't be as smart
Starting point is 00:45:28 RELAX as Aaron Rogers and then complain about young receivers okay you decided to take that money and that's fine I back you on that but that means you're going to play with younger players because free agents don't go to Green Bay to begin with now you can't afford them
Starting point is 00:45:44 and that's fine but right now Green Bay's got two second year running backs one's really good two rookie corners a second year corner and that's their new reality That's what they chose. And Drew Brees once got a big contract and his offensive line deteriorated and his defense wasn't as good. What you need if you're Aaron Rogers now is for your organization to nail some drafts.
Starting point is 00:46:09 And they're certainly capable of it. I love their young receiver. I like their young corners. I love this Aaron Jones kid second year. But that's what you need. When you pay the quarterback of fortune, you're going to need two years in a row of home runs in the draft. Breeze got it in New Orleans with his GM Mickey Lomas. Cross your fingers if you're Aaron Rogers.
Starting point is 00:46:28 Again, they're in Seattle tonight. And with that, the best 10 minutes, it is an NFL meat sandwich. If you like the NFL, if you bet the NFL, if you play fantasy, if you really like football and want to get smarter. Nobody does a better job than Greg Kosell, 30 plus years NFL films than he joins us today. Let's talk about Drew Breeze for a second. The numbers are off the chart. Some of this is rules-driven. 77% completions, 21 TD's one pick.
Starting point is 00:46:56 But you look at the film, Greg. Is this the most impressive Drew Breeze season? Boy, he's been, you know, I think the interception thing is really interesting. He's only thrown one. But I think he's always really played like this. He's so good before the snap of the ball. The great quarterbacks in today's NFL, Colin, win before the ball is snapped. They're so good at investigating the defense, researching it,
Starting point is 00:47:23 understanding what the defense is doing. And then there's the tempo element. That's a major part of what the Saints do, selective use of tempo, which is also really helpful because it gets defenses in a predictable coverage. Their offense is really quick timing-based. He does not throw the ball down the field very much at all. It's an offense that's based on completions.
Starting point is 00:47:45 Getting the ball out, completing passes, staying on schedule, staying ahead of the chains. They have Kamara, who is as good a match-up weapon as there is in the league because of the position he plays. So he's playing at a really high level, but there's a lot of scheming involved as well. Yeah, and by the way, he's clearly coachable because he's smart to understand. Oh, yeah. Yeah, I mean, this is a guy that's really embraced Sean Payton. They're so much fun to watch, and we have him as the number one team in the NFL for three straight weeks.
Starting point is 00:48:17 All right, I watched Tennessee in New England. And, I mean, Tom was not throwing on platform. He was rushed. He was uncomfortable. Tennessee now has made Dak and Brady, and obviously one's better than the other, highly uncomfortable. What did Tennessee do that the Texans defensive front couldn't do, that the Bears' defensive front couldn't do? But Tennessee's defensive front did it. Well, I don't think Tennessee did anything tactically or strategically, let's put it that way, that teams don't know about it.
Starting point is 00:48:49 but they just happened to do it really well. And what that is is they showed multiple front looks. They focused all their pressure concepts, which were also very multiple, up the middle, and they had great success. And Brady was very uncomfortable right from the beginning of the game. Yes, yes. And when he gets uncomfortable, he starts to play a little faster, and he doesn't see things as clearly.
Starting point is 00:49:12 And that's exactly what happened in this game. And you could go to the first series of the third quarter, Colin, And that said everything you want to know. It was the second play. They had a blitz. It was what we call a four-man zone exchange. What that means is you only rush four, but one of them is a linebacker or a defensive back. They got in clean.
Starting point is 00:49:32 Then on the third down play, they did the same thing. Another four-man zone exchange, and they ended up with a sack. Those two plays on the first series of the third quarter were totally representative of what the Titans did the entire game. Andrew Luck, I feel I'm so happy that he has protection. It's not a perfect team. They need a number two receiver. They could use help it running back. The defense just doesn't, the pass rush is evaporated in the last month.
Starting point is 00:50:04 But this offensive line is giving him time to throw. I mean, do you see this when you look at tape and film? Is this a team that feels formidable enough to beat Tennessee this weekend? the win-roll games. Well, I think they're very interesting in this regard. Number one, we've talked about Frank Reich and the offensive coaching staff, and what a great job they've done with the quick-time and quick-rhythm pass game. Luck is a comfortable player.
Starting point is 00:50:31 It's not like years ago when he dropped back and he'd start moving around with those deeper drops. The ball gets out. But I think they're also playing in some ways to what the NFL for some teams has become. Multiple tight-end sets. So when you line up with two and even three tight-end, ends, more often than not, the high probability is the defense will stay with their base personnel. And then when you have athletic tight ends, like Ebron, like Swope, like Moe-Cocs, players who can line up all over the formation against base personnel, and you can spread the formation as they
Starting point is 00:51:04 do at times, you cause matchup problems, and they're really doing that effectively. Yeah, they really are. I don't think any team in the league has more solid tight end. Ebron, by the way, has been a massive get for them. And you probably, because I know you're a big college football guy, you probably remember him coming out of college. He was highly athletic. It did not quite happen for him in Detroit, but there were people talking about Ebron as if he was that new wave tight end because he could really, really run.
Starting point is 00:51:32 I mean, I remember, I think he had a 75-yard touchdown against the U when he was in college where he just looked like a big wide receiver who could really run. All right. So, Dak Prescott goes on the road, beats Philadelphia. Philadelphia, and I said, you know, I've seen this with DAC. We all get a sugar rush. It's like, okay, this DAC is great. And I always say it's a little fool's gold. He had a great running game. He plays with a lead. He was more comfortable in the pocket. The secondary for the Eagles was all beat up. I kind of feel like this DAC win was a sugar rush, and there's always a crash
Starting point is 00:52:04 after that. I think a little bit of it. It was perfect circumstances, in my opinion. What do the film say? I would agree with that based on tape study. And I think the tape study, tells you about that pretty much every week. He always leaves throws on the field that are there by not turning it. He's not a true anticipation thrower. He needs to feel very comfortable that the receivers open before he turns it loose. Now, he is an NFL quarterback, so he's going to make throws. You know, he's a starting NFL quarterback.
Starting point is 00:52:35 But he's in the pocket, and he waits. That will always be a little bit of a hindrance to his game. But I think getting Amari Cooper will help because he can win one on a one. And that's the way their offense is built. It's an individual isolation route offense. And Amari Cooper is a really good route runner, and he can win one-on-one. By the way, Philadelphia, one game they've scored over 25 this year. They did it a dozen times last year. It does seem to me that Carson Wentz doesn't get quite the protection up front. They've had injuries on the perimeter in the back field. Is it just a personnel thing, a scheme thing? What's wrong with
Starting point is 00:53:14 Philadelphia's offense? I think it's scheme-based, Colin. Don't forget they lost Frank Reich and John Filippo. They have Mike Groves in his first year as a coordinator. You don't see the same staple route concepts and combinations as you did a year ago. Last year you could say, hey, where are the Eagle staples? And you'd immediately come up with four or five route concepts that they were in every week. And in the run game, we used to talk last year about how diverse and multiple they were in the run game. You don't see that this year. So I think it's more scheme-based because I personally think Carson Wentz is playing very, very well. Oh, so do I.
Starting point is 00:53:49 I love Carson Wentz. But to your point, you know, NBA dynasties die because of egos. You know, Kobe Shack don't get along. NFL dynasties die because you have injuries, free agency, and you lose really good coordinators. And they just don't, they just don't quite feel the same. Now, speaking of feeling sensational, Rams chiefs will put on a show. It was going to be in Mexico City. They've moved it now to Los Angeles.
Starting point is 00:54:17 I do feel like a. Now, hear me out. This is weird. I do feel like, not that the leagues figured out the Rams, but the way to beat the Rams is run at them like Seattle did twice, take golf off the field. And they don't have a wildly complex offense. They just do few things brilliantly well.
Starting point is 00:54:37 I like Kansas City in this matchup. Not that the leagues figured out the Rams, but I think we're a little ahead of ourselves on the Rams. They're not the Warriors. They can't mail it in and win games. What is the tape say on these two? Well, I think it's a fascinating sort of combination of offenses because they're different. Obviously, they're both very good.
Starting point is 00:54:58 I would say that the Rams are not that complicated. It's the word I don't like to use, but complicated. They line up in 11 personnel on almost every snap, three wide receivers on the field. They run a lot of tight splits. They run the outside zone run game, and they run jet motion. So what they're trying to do is expand the defense horizontally, stretch the defense vertically, create voids in the middle. That's what they do.
Starting point is 00:55:21 And they minimize the pass rush with his own run game. The Chiefs, on the other hand, are incredibly multiple with their formations, their personnel, where they line people up. Tyree Kill can line up in the inside slot to trips. He's really hard to defend. They are far more multiple in what they do. It's not a gimmick thing, but they line people up all over, and that makes it harder to defend. So they're different.
Starting point is 00:55:46 Two really good offenses that are totally different. Okay, Seahawks tonight host Green Bay. You had talked about Russell Wilson this year being more of a complimentary piece. Last week I watched them against the Rams, and boy, they had clearly put in several quarterback run situations. They had spotted something with the Rams, not only running the football against him, but Russell, there were several plays, a half dozen where I felt like, even though he dropped back to pass, he really wanted. wanted to run the football. You know, like his mind was made up, which I don't know if it's designed or not. You still feel that he's mostly a complimentary piece this year?
Starting point is 00:56:24 I do. I think that's their approach. They've run the ball more than any team in the NFL. They've got the most shotgun runs of any team in the NFL. They're a running team. Now, I thought last week they added some zone read elements to that, and he did have some zone read runs. A lot of his runs came later in the game when they were coming back.
Starting point is 00:56:41 If he saw open space, he took it figuring he'd gain some yards. But my sense is that they want to be a running team, a physical attitude running team, ideally play good defense. And Wilson can sort of be a compliment to that. I don't think they want him to be a runner as a priority in their offense. Yeah. By the way, Green Bay tonight. Aaron's never won in Seattle. And I said this the other day, and I'm not sure it's right, but I said it.
Starting point is 00:57:08 I said, listen, certain things in the NFL travel well. Running games travel. Running games mean you have extended drives. you quiet the crowd, you take their star quarterback off the field. Green Bay doesn't run the ball generally with great acumen over the last four or five years. I think it's very hard to win in this league if you have to throw 38 times. That's my takeaway why Green Bay last seven years is sub-500 on the road with Aaron Rogers. That's my whole takeaway.
Starting point is 00:57:37 Do you buy any of that? I do. And up until I think this week, Aaron Rogers, on average, was dropping back more than 45 times. That's terrible. That's not good for anybody. No, that's not good for anybody. You're right. That's too many. So we'll see how they go moving forward. Obviously, Jones last week had a big game. I like Aaron Jones. I remember watching him coming out of U-Tap. I don't know if you saw him. No, I did not.
Starting point is 00:58:03 I thought that, and this is going to sound crazy because who I'm going to compare him to, but only in one regard. I think he was similar to Frank Gore in his ability to get through small creases at the point of attack and then re-accelerate through the second level. And I think that Jones is very, very good at that. And I'd like to see their offense be more balanced. I think it needs to be. Yeah. I think Green Bay is 42 and 11 when Aaron Rogers throws fewer than 30 times. And they're much closer to 500 when he throws over that.
Starting point is 00:58:35 So to your point or my point, a running game makes everybody better, including Aaron Rogers. Now, everybody loves Sean McVeigh. He's in L.A. They got Todd Gurley. It's the entertainment capital of the world. but I'm watching Matt Nagy in Chicago with Tribisky, a guy I didn't love out of college, I still not sure I love. I could make an argument. It's way more impressive what Matt Nagy's doing with Tribisky in that offense and those pieces than what McVeigh is doing in L.A.
Starting point is 00:59:03 Your thoughts? Well, here's what always sort of bothers me, not about what you just said, but I think that it's the coaching staff's job to put a scheme together that enhances the skill sets of their players. That doesn't mean a player is a system player. That's the coach's job, is it not? Yeah, no, it is. So, you know, I didn't love Mitchell Trubisky coming out of college either. I don't think he's a purely natural thrower of the football. Gough is a much more natural thrower of the football than Trubisky is.
Starting point is 00:59:32 But clearly, scheme-wise, particularly against zone concepts, they do such a good job that it presents to find throws and reads for Trubisky. and the one thing he's shown, he's a very good seam thrower, and those can be tough throws, but he's made a number of those throws. I'm very anxious to see where this goes because they've got some weapons. You like their weapons? Well, I really liked Anthony Miller coming out of Memphis. Okay, well, that's your big play of the week. So give us your play of the week.
Starting point is 01:00:01 It's the Bears. All right, let's run it then right now, and we can start it right away. This was a touchdown to Anthony Miller, and it was a 45-yard touchdown, I believe. obviously he's wide open when he catches the ball, but there's a reason he's wide open. And what they did here is they ran what we call Trips Bunch. You see three bears there. Alan Robinson is the point man in the bunch. So now he's being played man to man by Nevin Lawson.
Starting point is 01:00:26 So now what you have with the rest of the bunch is you have Tyler Gabriel on the outside, and right now he's being played man to man by Deshaun Shed. And then on the inside, you're going to have Anthony Miller played man to man by Cawndry Diggs. What the bunch does is it can cause some problems for how you play this, because you can either play stay-in-man coverage or play what we call the releases of the two outside receivers, so to speak. So what happens here is you see that Diggs allows his man, Miller, to run by him playing the inside release of Taylor Gabriel. So he gives up his man to play the release. Now Deshaun Shed, he doesn't play the release. He stays with his man, which was Gabriel.
Starting point is 01:01:13 So they got caught playing bunch. They got caught playing one guy played man all the way through. The other guy played the release, and they got caught. That's what you try to do, Colin, when you do the trips bunch. You can't count on that happening, but that's one thing that could happen. You get them stuck mixed between playing the man and playing the releases. Yeah. They're clever.
Starting point is 01:01:37 I mean, I watch them. They're clever. I mean, I'll say, again, Trebisky's ball dies to me. He doesn't, you know, some guys... Well, you're right about that. You're right about that. His deep balls lose energy on the back end.
Starting point is 01:01:50 Yeah, no, I mean, his ball dies. And it's like Mahomes gain steam, his dies. Well, that's because he's a locked front leg thrower. He locks his front leg when he throws, and you can't drive the football when you do that. Greg Kossel, great stuff. 15 minutes NFL meat sandwich. Great talking to you, Greg.
Starting point is 01:02:05 Thanks, Colin. coming up next we're going to see something tonight between the Packers and the Seahawks and it is a baton and it's being handed to somebody else and it is it is a definitive it may not happen tonight but it probably could happen tonight and it's in the NFL and you're going to see it for the next 10 years and that's coming up plus Jimmy Butler debuted with the Sixers some thoughts not not on what's going to happen big picture not just last night's loss sure to catch live editions of the herd weekdays and noon eastern 9 a.m. Pacific. Birthdays, anniversaries, Thanksgiving, multicolored roses, 1-800flowers.com. 24 roses, 24 bucks.
Starting point is 01:02:48 Multi-colored, 1-800 flowers.com. Put in the code, H-E-R-D. Greg Jennings before the end of the hour. Matt Barms, 14 years in the NBA, joins us last hour. So tonight, if Seattle
Starting point is 01:03:03 loses, the Rams Clinch, it's week 11. clinching before Thanksgiving does not happen in the NFL. Not even the Patriots clinched that early. It just does not happen. We are seeing the baton being passed very quickly in the NFC West. My gut feeling is the Rams and the 49ers, despite Russell Wilson's greatness, will mostly control the NFC West for the next decade.
Starting point is 01:03:29 But here's what's interesting about it, is that not only have the Rams taking it over, they beat the Seahawks both times this year, good games that beat them both times. But it's interesting how they've taken it over. All the brands that five years ago, the Seahawks owned. Let's think about this. Who was the coach everybody in the league was talking about five years ago? Player-friendly, raw, raw, high energy. It was Pete Carroll. Who was the young quarterback? Everybody said, wow, he's special. Russell Wilson. What team are we always talking about the culture?
Starting point is 01:04:06 The Seahawks. Who had most of their stars on defense? It was the Seahawks. Who had this rich owner? Cost was not discussed. Paul Allen, the late Paul Allen. It was the Seahawks. Think about what the brand is for the Rams.
Starting point is 01:04:23 Who is now the hot coach everybody's talking about, Sean McVeigh? Who's the new quarterback talent that's putting up MVP stats, Jared Gough? Instead of Marshawn Lynch, very popular with the media five years ago, it's now Todd Gurley of the Rams. What's the culture everybody's talking about in the NFL? It's Los Angeles. Who's got the cool West Coast brand? Seahawks five years ago.
Starting point is 01:04:46 Rams today. And who's got the richest owner? Stan Cronkey. Money is no object. It's not just that they're replacing him. They've stolen their game. They are exactly precisely what we talked about five years ago. The culture, the brand, the cool coach,
Starting point is 01:05:05 the star running back, emerging quarterback, stars are on defense. Was Seahawks, now Rams. Joy Taylor with the news. No, no, no, no, no. Turn on the news. This is the herd line news. So, James Connor has been put in concussion protocol since last Thursday's win over the Panthers,
Starting point is 01:05:27 but was a full participant in practice yesterday. So that news, combined with Levy on Bell, opting to not report to the team, had reporters asking Connor if anything has changed for. him and his answer to the media was what's there to change? Nothing changes. We're in week 11. I'm doing the same thing I've been doing for all these weeks. I don't really pay attention to it. I always go by the motto
Starting point is 01:05:46 of control, which you can control. I'm just going to keep doing what I've been doing. Why would James Connor change anything because Leveon Bell's not coming back? I feel like it's time to stop asking the Steelers about Leveon Bell, right? Yeah, it's over. It's done. It's not going to play. It's over. Yeah, it's James Connor, who I don't think is as good as
Starting point is 01:06:02 Levy and Bell, but I think they can win the AFC with James Connor too. I just, up until this point, it's been understandable, and I'm sure that the players are worn out by it, but now we know he's not coming back and he's not going to be there next year. So James Connor, I'm sure, had this in the back of his mind the entire time, but he's been playing as well as James Connor can play. Yeah. And then putting up numbers in their winning. So that's done, except for rating Levi-on Bell's Locker, which is totally weird. So I can't get over that. All right. So you never really know what's expect from a Cam Newton press conference, as we know. We have grown to expect a very interesting hat, usually,
Starting point is 01:06:36 but things took an interesting turn yesterday with him opening up about his new passion. I feel like if I had a gift, a hidden talent outside of playing an instrument, I would want to be a sommelier. Like those senses that you have and for those who don't know it, it's being able to distinctively tell what type of wine it is, where it's from, and everything about the wine, by just the taste, the look, and pretty much the, feel of the wine in anywhere of the world. It is relaxing. It is something that kind of, you know,
Starting point is 01:07:11 warms the soul, sort of speak, with a very rigorous day as you would imagine I could have at times. You know what I mean? I'm 29 years old and, you know, I ain't eating peanut butter and jelly sandwiches and animal crackers at night. Well, he is not, he obviously does not have snake dreams from wine, Colin? No. He, uh, and I, this is kind of mature. I think he can move into wine. It's a sophisticated alcohol. It's a academic alcohol. This shows the growth. It's a growth. He's not out doing, you know, he's not doing tequila shots with the, with the football players.
Starting point is 01:07:47 Heard bombs. No, he's out at his family. He's having a glass of wine with his beautiful wife. I said, I like it. You're into this. Uh, a soma, so may, how do you say it? Somelier? Somalier. Yeah. Yeah, that's a lot. Yeah. You have to go through like a whole process. You know, I own two, well, I'm a partial owner. of two wine stores. I thought you were going to say wineries. No, no, no.
Starting point is 01:08:06 What do you mean you own wine stores? I'm a secondary owner of maximum beverage in Connecticut, two beautiful wine stores. They're great. I mean, you know I like wine? John, have you ever shopped at my wine store? I have been to your stores. Are they nice? They're actually very nice.
Starting point is 01:08:21 I would expect nothing less. I hate giving my money back to you when I go home. But you don't participate in wine, though. You have a glass? By the way, does the CEO of Ford drive a full? He probably drives a mazorati. Why do I have to drink wine all day? Fine, fair enough.
Starting point is 01:08:36 You can take advantage of the rest of us who love wine. Finally, the Warriors announced yesterday, Steph Curry will miss at least the next 10 days before being re-evaluated. He's already missed the team's last three games because of a strained right groin. Yeah. And he's no stranger to injuries. He missed over 30 games last season and part of the playoffs with knee and ankle problems. And we also have an update on the KD.
Starting point is 01:08:56 Dremond front. There are pictures circulating. We don't have them, but there are pictures on the Internet. That's Chris Haynes. We did a photo of Draymond Green and Kevin Durant communicating positively, walking around, shoot around. So they are talking. So that's a good thing. Yeah, yeah.
Starting point is 01:09:13 I mean, when you get in a fight with your wife or your husband, you want to talk. Communication is a key. My wife was texting me this morning. We need to talk. That's fine, but you got to communicate. My thing is, well, let's communicate. If you get into it, if you have a disagreement, let's communicate. Women, we love that phrase.
Starting point is 01:09:28 I didn't do anything. I was perfect. There nothing wrong with me. Steph is expected to travel with the team during the upcoming road trip. And Steve Kerr told reporters that the team's being extra careful with Curry because this is a new injury for him. By the way, these guards, Westbrook, John Wall, Derek Rose, Steph Curry, no handcheck in the league, Joy. You can get to the basket. And everybody thinks this is a win for point guards.
Starting point is 01:09:54 Point guards are all getting these guys, all these guys, these iconic guys last six, seven years. They're playing less. They're hurt more. Like we're seeing this over and over from Used to be the big guys were banging around on each other Little guys getting hurt down this league Also with I mean with the Warriors specifically and Steph They are playing longer seasons
Starting point is 01:10:12 Because they're going to the finals every single year Now they're sleeping very good That's a very good point But they are playing a much longer season than everyone else consistently That's practice and working out and all that even And those are more intense games Yes so you have that to account for as well Yeah Joy Taylor with the news
Starting point is 01:10:28 Well, that's the news. And thanks for stopping by. The Hurd-Lie News. You know, it's funny, so there's all these stories about Kevin Durant, anonymous sources, anonymous warriors saying, you know, he's going to leave. He's on his way out. Here's the thing, man. This is why I support NBA players.
Starting point is 01:10:44 They can't win. They can't win. You'd take a better job. You would be mobile. You want him to go and play for the Knicks, the worst owner in sports. You think that's where he should do? So he doesn't have an automatic win? you're upset if he goes to the Lakers.
Starting point is 01:11:00 The same people that hated that he went to the Warriors would now hate him for leaving the Warriors and going to the Lakers. Star players can't win. That's why I've always said if you're a star player like Kevin Durant, go make yourself happy. Don't worry about the media. Don't worry about the fans. Don't worry about Twitter.
Starting point is 01:11:14 You can't make the fans happy. The same people who were furious, he went to the Warriors, would now be furious if he leaves the Warriors and goes and plays with LeBron. The bottom line, I've said this about Kevin Durant from the very beginning, is that Kevin Durant, the NBA sent him a message when he came into the NBA. He got drafted by Seattle and the owner said, I am going to stay in Seattle forever. And an hour later, the owner in Seattle said, I'm going to sell my franchise.
Starting point is 01:11:43 And then it got bought by a guy who said, another owner, I'm going to keep the franchise in Seattle. And he moved it to a city with silos. And then the general manager said, I'm going to keep Kevin Durant, Westbrook, and Hart. Hardin together. And then they shipped off James Hardin, an eventual MVP for an end table and a Thompson roadmap. And then the organization in Oklahoma City coddled, enabled, pampered, and babied a hyperathletic, can't shoot guard in a shooters league. And you're shocked that Kevin Durant has watched NBA owner after owner, GM after GM, play favorites. Break promises.
Starting point is 01:12:27 And Kevin Durant's like, bra, I'm taking care of me. I got owners saying one thing and owner's doing another. I got GM saying one thing and GM's doing another. I had a head coach in Oklahoma saying one thing and baby in the other. Kevin Durant, you take care of Kevin Durant. Kevin Durant came into this league and has dealt with deceptions and lies and manipulation and coddling of the wrong people. And you're upset for a pro athlete, regardless of income, that he's going to take care of him first,
Starting point is 01:13:06 not over the city listed on his jersey. Okay. Okay. That's why I support players. Staying in Seattle, never going to Oklahoma City. Listen, man, if you transfer to Seattle, the Pacific Northwest, and you're looking at Mount Rainier and the Puget Sound in the summer with your wife in an hour later, Hey, want to move to Oklahoma City? Not really. Too bad. We're going.
Starting point is 01:13:31 And then you get there, and they have two employees. You're better than both, and they baby them and ignore you. I don't know. You wonder why players move. That's it. Right around the corner, Greg Jennings. Packers, tonight's the season. Former Packer, Greg Jennings. It's their season tonight.
Starting point is 01:13:45 Coming up. Tonight, Aaron Rogers and the Packers battle Russell Wilson and the Seahawks and what could turn out to be an NFC elimination game. It all starts at 730 Eastern on Fox. NFL network and streaming on Prime Video. Super Bowl with the Packers, multiple Pro Bowls, 10 years a decade in the NFL. Greg Jennings sitting on the couch for us tonight.
Starting point is 01:14:04 Fox NFL analysts. Let's talk about this game. It does feel like an elimination game. Green Bay has to go to Minnesota and Chicago. They have now Seattle tonight. Seahawks are in a very tough division, so Rams can actually clinch tonight. Let's talk about the Packers.
Starting point is 01:14:18 They have never won in Seattle. My theory is, when you don't have a running game, it's hard to go on the road and win. You can win thrown it at home. You've got to have some running game on the road. I like Seattle tonight. What is your takeaway? Well, I'll start with this.
Starting point is 01:14:32 I like Seattle tonight. The Packers do now have a running game with Aaron Jones. But here's the thing about this game. I just don't know if Aaron Rogers' health will allow him to propel this Packers team the way that he has once done it in the past. and especially when you are going into an atmosphere where you haven't won, you mentioned that it's hostile, you have all these things that have transpired over the past few years.
Starting point is 01:15:06 I think the last time they were there. It was the NFC championship game and that debacle, that fallout. And then the time before that was the Hail Mary, which was not a catch. This has not been a place of great luck for the package. It has not been. It has not been. And when I see what the Seattle Seahawks have been able to do, they run the ball and they keep the ball out of your best guy's hands.
Starting point is 01:15:32 And obviously, the Green Bay Packers, their guy that they want the ball in the hands of is Aaron Rogers. And if you can continue to run the ball against this Packer defense, it's going to be a long night for the Green Bay Packers. They're relying on a lot of young guys. But this is my takeaway. When Drew Brees signed that monster deal, They went 7 to 9, 7 to 9, 7 to 9.
Starting point is 01:15:52 His offensive line got bad and the defense wasn't as good. When Aaron took the money, he's going to play with younger guys for the next four or five years. They have a great rookie corner, two of them. They have a great second year running back. This is kind of the reality. When you sign up for that fat contract, your team's going to get a little younger. And that's the reality of Green Bay now. It has to get a little younger.
Starting point is 01:16:10 But the Green Bay Packers, what they do is they're typically always a young team because they don't go after free agents. They don't go sign the guys who are, on their second contracts, third contracts, seven, eight, nine-year guys. They don't do that. That's not what they do. They birth guys out of the draft. They nurture them. They kind of mold them into who they want them to be to fit their team.
Starting point is 01:16:33 And they keep them on that rookie deal. And when you have a guy who takes up a huge piece of the pie like Aaron Rogers does, that has to be a formula that you have to be successful at. And has it worked? Well, Drew Brees was able to reboot it. He signed a new deal that was cheaper. And they had back-to-back great drafts where they got multiple stars in the first couple rounds. So, by the way, again, I think it's going to be rough sled in next three, four years with him.
Starting point is 01:17:00 I really do for Aaron because he's going to have a very young team. But you have to – the other thing with the Green Bay Packers, they're never so deep, so low in the draft where they get these great opportunities to draft 24th. Exactly. So Drew Brees, yeah, he took a – he reconstructed his deal, but they also were bad teams. and they were able to pick a lot higher than the Green Backers. By the way, I heard this bothered you. So the Slavian Bell's gone for the Steelers.
Starting point is 01:17:29 And she's out there. And the team rummage through his stuff. Bud DeBree is a linebacker for Pittsburgh. Let's play the tape here. I appreciate the cleat, my guy. I appreciate the cleats, my guy, man. I hope you're the best, man. We should success, my guy.
Starting point is 01:17:43 I appreciate the click, man. I'm taking it all over and on, bro. Much of a little. You didn't like this. I did, man. I get it. It's all, it's all fun in games. But the message that it sends is that you're gone. We don't really care. And we're going to rummage through everything that you got that number one, if I were selling my home and I had family that lived in the area. And because I said I'm selling
Starting point is 01:18:11 my home and I'm not moving, I'm not coming back, they just go in my house, take the furniture out and start rummaging through everything. No, that's stealing. Like, I didn't. I didn't tell you you could go in there and do that. What they're doing, that's, that's, that's his home. When you spend as many hours as we do as professional athletes with these, with your teammates, within this wall of these walls of the locker room, that is your home. That is your sacred place. You put pictures up, you do different things in your own locker room to make it your own.
Starting point is 01:18:46 And for them to go through his locker like that, that's not cool. man. I mean, I get there they're making light of it, but that's you can't do that. All right. Don't do that. So when you left Green Bay, what happened to your locker? I emptied it out. I emptied it out. After we got back from
Starting point is 01:19:03 San Francisco, we suffered the loss out here in the Bay Area. The next day, I had a big black trash bag and I was... So you knew you were gone. I was gone. Because they weren't going to pay you. I'm emptying everything. They weren't going to pay you. Absolutely. I mean, all the media is there and they're like, what?
Starting point is 01:19:19 Come on, guys. You know what time it is. I don't have to talk. It's just, that's just a reality. You were petty? No, I wasn't petty. You were professional. I was professional. But you were leaving. I mean, everyone cleans out their locker at the end of the year. Can I tell you a little story? Because I knew I was leaving the other place before. So I didn't want anybody to notice. I've never told anybody this. So I thought, because I had a desk was a bunch of stuff. And I would just take a picture a day for about three weeks. That's why I did. Seriously. In fact, I wouldn't put a for sale sign up in front of my home because Steve Levy, the anchor guy at ESPN, lived like two houses down
Starting point is 01:19:55 and I'm like, I don't want the word to get out. I'm looking. So I had people come see my home, but you had to schedule a visit and I would go to my office and take one picture out of day. So over the course of three weeks, nobody would notice that. So I'm manipulative. You just went in and just, I'm just. Well, everybody else has bags out too.
Starting point is 01:20:14 So, hey, if Seattle, you know, I'm saying this, five years ago, if I said cool head coach, emerging star quarterback, culture, coolest brand in the West Coast, stars are on defense, you'd be like, oh, Seahawks. Like today, that's a Rams. Talk about culture. Stars are on defense. Cool coach everybody wants to be. Emerging star quarterback. Like, it's over, right? Like, it's a Rams division, right? It's over. It is the Rams division. It is. But to say, and I would never say that they have reached the level of height that the Seahawks were able to accomplish. Because what they were able to do in their run, and every team has a run. They won a Super Bowl.
Starting point is 01:21:04 Every team isn't the New England Patriots where they're going to have this double decade run. So if the Rams win one Super Bowl, get to two and win one. You think they're happy? Do you think they'll do that? I don't think they're happy. It's hard to say, will they do that? When you look at this NFC conference, it's just tough.
Starting point is 01:21:26 And you look at the New Orleans Saints, what they were able to do to the Rams. Can they come out here and win? Yes, I believe so. So I think the road is tougher for the Rams. The Seahawks prided themselves on defense. And when I look at the Rams, they have a ton of big names on defense. but their defense has been nowhere close to what we would have thought it could be on paper. No, no, no.
Starting point is 01:21:50 You can run right at the ramps. Absolutely. And that's the heart of their defense. Aaron Donald, too. You can run right at him. I think I saw something that was kind of, I mean, not that Aaron Donald, don't get me wrong. Unbelievable player, arguably the best defensive player in the game. He had like 35 tackles.
Starting point is 01:22:10 12 and a half of those are sacks. He's not, he's not, he's not, he don't care about stopping to run. Let me get that quarterback. Some of that's true. Domic and Sue, by the way, kind of freelances for sacks as well. Greg Jennings, Black Friday deals at Lowe's, 40% off appliances right now, free local delivery, offer valid through November 29th, U.S. only, C Store for Details, Lowe's. Hour 3, Matt Barnes, NBA are coming up.
Starting point is 01:22:36 Here we go, hour three. This is the herd. wherever you may be and however you may be listening live in Los Angeles, iHeart Radio, Fox Sports Radio and FS1. Congratulations to Fox. Our bosses and everybody here signed a new decade-long deal with Major League Baseball. Predictability, reliability, been in a relationship with Major League Baseball. World Series continues.
Starting point is 01:22:59 ALCS, NLCS. A lot of digital stuff. Good news for us. We've become a sports and politics. The new Fox now, Sports Politics News, Live Always. It's my kind of company. We don't need actors hanging around here. News, politics, sports live.
Starting point is 01:23:16 Pow! I'm into it. So Matt Barnes, who won a title with the Warriors, he's a great guest. He'll be on in 15 minutes. He's always a great guest. And, you know, Durant's leaving. Does he think so after the season?
Starting point is 01:23:28 Coming up on Best for Last, I share my special moment. You know I was at the game last night. Yes, we know. And LeBron and I, I would call it connected. Oh. So we'll share that. You're going to tell everyone about it? Well, we're going to have that special moment.
Starting point is 01:23:43 It's on tape. Yes, I was at the Laker game last night. Here is the moment LeBron surpassed Wilton made history. LeBron drives is fouled. Count it. Move and make room for LeBron. James No. 5 all time on the NBA scoring list. I mean, this guy is passing legends.
Starting point is 01:24:10 That a one-name basis. Unbelievable. are you playing this great, this league. Kobe was MJ. When Kobe came into the league, he almost sounded like MJ. They played like MJ. They had the same game. But LeBron, because he's the only person to ever threaten Michael Jordan
Starting point is 01:24:28 is the best player of all time, and I do think analytically it's not close, and I do think he can do far more, far more than Michael ever could. So I have LeBron number one all time, Michael's number two, but they're both great. But that's not what this. rant about. This rant is about LeBron James has never been Michael. He's always been 30% magic, 30% wilt, and 40% alien. I've never seen anything like him. My two takeaways from watching
Starting point is 01:24:59 LeBron in person, number one is he is so much better than everybody else. A 6'9, 257 pound forward should not also be the best ball handler, and last night the best shooter, and have the best vision, and be the best leader. Power forwards. We're supposed to physically dominate you. Oh, LeBron can do that.
Starting point is 01:25:25 That's what Wilt did. But when you watched LeBron, Damian Lillard's the second best NBA player on that floor last night, and the gap is the Grand Canyon times four. Bigger, stronger, faster last night, a better shooter than the guard. And by the way, if Tom Brady, with all his passion, with all his pre-snap acumen,
Starting point is 01:25:52 if Tom Brady had Aaron Rogers' arm, Russell Wilson's feet, and Cam Newton's size, imagine that. That's what LeBron is. LeBron just broke Wilk Chamberlain's scoring records. I want you to think about that. LeBron's not a score. He's not. He doesn't have an iconic shot like the skyhook,
Starting point is 01:26:15 the George Gervyn Fingarroll. He didn't play with a top point guard to get him freebie points like Caram Malone. Michael Jordan's a score. Kobe's a score. They should be the all-time scores. Wilt was a score. Kareem with a skyhook.
Starting point is 01:26:32 LeBron has none of that. He is not the flawless, natural, gifted shooter. He's a 6-9 freight train who is developed into one of the great clutch three-point shooters in this league. So my first takeaway whenever I watch LeBron, and especially when I watch him in person, he is so much better than everybody else. And the second thing that I've really noticed, the last couple of times I've watched him in person, he's really smart. The game now comes to him. He only has to put the cape on and save the team and go Superman about twice a night. He has these sort of turbo microbursts for two or three minutes.
Starting point is 01:27:11 He had him last night. And then you realize, oh, he's taking things over. He's allowing the game to develop, the young players to develop. And then he kind of feels like, ooh, Brandon Ingram just hit a three. Oh, we just hit a two. Let me take over for four minutes and change the game and win it. But he only does that now at times. He doesn't chase people down for the shot blocks like he used to.
Starting point is 01:27:34 his first six, seven years in the league. He is super efficient. He doesn't need the 99-mile-an-hour fastball all but about nine times a game. Portland led for much of the game early. Then they started to falter. Here comes the burst. Browdy blocks it. LeBron blocks it at the other end. Here we go. LeBron James. Spinning. LeBron all the way. Scores it. This crowd is absolutely going nuts. 30% will 30% magic and 40% I don't know incredible Hulk let me shift gears to this uh Aaron Rogers tonight this is another joy this is another big standalone major TV game with Aaron Rogers facing one of those contemporary stark quarterbacks
Starting point is 01:28:27 that we always put him ahead of you know we always put him ahead of Matt Ryan we always put them ahead of Drew Breeze. We always put them ahead of Cam Newton. Many of you put him ahead of Tom Brady. And we get a couple of these a year, these big Aaron Rogers games. And here's what's interesting when Aaron Rogers faces the other great quarterbacks that you always put them ahead of, Brady, Breeze, Matt Ryan, Cam Newton, Andrew Locke, Russell, you always put him ahead of those. It's funny because Aaron doesn't win a lot of those games. Let's take this year. He faced Tom Brady week nine.
Starting point is 01:29:07 He lost. And then he faced Jared Goff week eight. He's one of the great young players and he lost that one. And then last year he faced Cam Newton off the injury week 15 and lost. And then he faced Matt Ryan in week two and he lost. He did face Russell Wilson last year at home and won. But two years ago, he faced Matt Ryan, NFC championship and lost. He faced Russell, Wilson, and won.
Starting point is 01:29:28 And then he faced Andrew Luck and lost and faced Matt Ryan and lost. When is winning going to matter in these big standalone contemporary star quarterback versus contemporary star quarterback? When's the winning part going to matter? But his defense, it's 11th, first in sacks, fifth and past defense, those numbers tonight are even or better than Russell Wilson. when Drew Brees, who doesn't make excuses, faces his contemporaries, the last ten times Drew Brees has faced, you know, those great quarterbacks, he's six and four. The last ten times Tom Brady has faced contemporary quarterbacks in that small group. He's nine and one.
Starting point is 01:30:18 Aaron Rogers, last seven years, Green Bay's got a losing record on the road. O'N3 against Russell Wilson in Seattle faces him again tonight. I am by no means not saying Aaron Rogers isn't great. But God, you hold LeBron and Kevin Durant and Tom Brady, Cam Newton, and Big Ben. You hold all these stars in sports to actually winning games. Hell, you hold them to winning championships, which I, championships is about luck and timing, and your coach and your roster, can I just hold Aaron Rogers accountable
Starting point is 01:30:58 to win one of these big television games that stand alone against a contemporary quarterback? Just asking. For the record, I know a lot of people complain, media people complain about Thursday night football. What's not to like about this? So I work, it's a very rigorous job.
Starting point is 01:31:18 Joy and I work, we're lifting barbells here. And then we go home, and then maybe I go work out or something, hang out with the fam, and that I know tonight I'm getting an NFL game. It's an elimination NFC game with two Hall of Fame quarterbacks. I hear people complain and all the time. You know, it's not enough time. In between, you do get they don't hit.
Starting point is 01:31:41 You do get this is the easiest week of the year for players. No hitting at practice. By the way, the practices are very reduced because the league tries to set up teams that play often or in their division. And the teams have done most of their homework for this Thursday game in the offseason. This is the one they have the scouting report all four. Well, you know, the league, they ask a lot. And then after you play this game, you don't play for like nine games, nine days.
Starting point is 01:32:09 You know, occasionally I've had to work in a Saturday and then I get an extra day off. These Thursday night football games, I love, like I'm driving to work this morning thinking, go to work, chop it up, go home, work out, hang with a fam. I got Corona's Packer Seahawks tonight. What that is? How great is that? I think it's time to adapt to Thursday night football. It works. Yes.
Starting point is 01:32:31 It's good. It's win. Everybody wins. They get nine days off. And the games are great. Yes. There's big games now. Last week was a blowout, but it was Cam versus Big Ben.
Starting point is 01:32:41 Now I get Aaron Rogers against Russell Wilson. What do I not like? I mean, it was an impactful blowout. Yes. Matt Barnes, 14. years in the NBA. Guys, an insider, knows his stuff, knows the games, knows the players, he's got thoughts about KD, the Lakers, Wilt, LeBron, all that stuff. That's coming up. One more herd? The herd streams 24 hours a day, seven days a week within the IHeart
Starting point is 01:33:02 radio app. Search Hurd to listen live or on demand whenever you'd like. All right, so last night, Jimmy Butler's now, Philadelphia 76, I like the move. I thought it was aggressive. And I've said this before, aggressive teams are winning in sports. The Rams are aggressive. Eagles last year, free agency, were aggressive. Golden State Warriors were good, won a title, recruited Kevin Durant, aggressive. Houston Astros were good, got Verlander aggressive. Red Sox got two guys, J.D. Martinez, they were already good, aggressive. I like aggressive.
Starting point is 01:33:31 Jimmy Butler to the Sixers is aggressive, and I like it. But I will just say they lost last night to Orlando. It doesn't mean much. It's the first game. This could backfire. This is going to be a lot like skydiving. Generally, the shoot opens. And it's exhilarating.
Starting point is 01:33:45 I know people that have been skydiving recently, friends of mine, It's exhilarating. But if the shoot doesn't open, you'll be eating out of a straw the rest of your life. This could backfire. This could be terrible because players don't like to be yelled at, and Jimmy Butler's a barker and he's intense and he's demanding. And Ben Simmons is aloof and Markell Fultz is fragile, and Joel M. Beads the funny guy, and here comes Jimmy Butler,
Starting point is 01:34:08 and he's going to get in your face and he's going to yell at you, and he's going to bark at you. And pro athletes don't like to be yelled at, especially if they feel it's condescending. And you got a lot of respect. You always hear that. got to respect me, got to respect my game, got to put some respect on it. And Jimmy Butler gets right in your kitchen and right in your grill and right in your face.
Starting point is 01:34:26 And he's demanding, he's demanding at practice. And so I think this thing's going to work. And I think the shoot is going to open. It's going to be all good. But this is going to be fun because there's a lot of egos here. And, you know, just say, Embed last night said, I like the fact that he's loud. He was pushing me. I need that.
Starting point is 01:34:44 Ben Simmons says, hey, he's going to push everybody. He's going to help us out. I like it a lot. People can say that. But in pro sports, especially basketball in the culture in America, guys don't like to be yelled at, barked at, poked at, prod it. They don't like it.
Starting point is 01:35:00 Especially when they're rich and their stars. They surround themselves with guys who tell them what they want to hear, not with the need to hear. And Jimmy Butler's going to tell you what you need to hear. He's really intense and really demanding, even at practice. So it'll be fun to watch it. Now, we never give LeBron, you know, three days to get his team ready. So this is the way it works with chemistry.
Starting point is 01:35:20 They lost last night to a terrible team Orlando. It's hard. This is going to be a really weird fit. I like it. It's aggressive. It's a go-for-it move. And I think you've got to do it. And if you want to beat Boston, you want to beat Milwaukee.
Starting point is 01:35:33 You know, Indiana's getting better. Toronto's pretty good. But it is, there is a chance. It's aggressive. There is a chance. This will just not be good at all for anybody. I don't think you were as dramatic as you needed to be about what happens if the shoot doesn't work?
Starting point is 01:35:50 Well, you land in a car and it's all over, right? Like once a year a shoot doesn't open in America. I mean, they went all in on this situation. All in. You're completely right. This is the end of the process. It ends with this move. Right.
Starting point is 01:36:07 This is all chips in the middle of the table. If this doesn't work, the process has been processed. Yes. It's been processed. We've been saying that for a while now, but I feel. I feel safe in saying this is it. But I do like the move. You got me a real NBA.
Starting point is 01:36:22 You have to be aggressive. You have a small window to win championships in any sport. You have to be aggressive. Grab life. And the NBA is a star-driven league. You need stars to win. And he's a star. Exactly.
Starting point is 01:36:33 Joy Taylor with the news. No. No. No. Turn on the news. This is the herd line news. Speaking of players not wanting to be pushed and stars and all those things. Jemond Green and Kevin Durant, Draymond has spoken for the first time about the situation with Kevin Durant this morning.
Starting point is 01:36:51 Oh, he did. Here is what Draymond had to say. Oh. Kevin and I spoke. We're moving forward. I think there's no secret that I am an emotional player. You know, I play, I wear my emotions on my sleeve. I play with that same emotion.
Starting point is 01:37:04 You know, sometimes it gets the best of me. And, you know, it doesn't work to my favor. I'm going to live with that, you know, because it works in my favor to the good. as my resume speaks and this team resume speaks, I'm never going to change who I am. I'm going to approach the game the same way that I always do. And, you know, like I said, we'll continue to move forward. So it sounds like they spoke.
Starting point is 01:37:29 And Chris Haynes also tweeted this photo of Draymond Green and Kevin Durant talking on their way to the arena for shoot-around. So they have spoken. Looks like, you know, Draymond is very emphatically making whatever point he is there. but they seem to be moving on from it. We shall see. I don't know. Sometimes you say stuff to people.
Starting point is 01:37:52 Oh, no. I agree. Sometimes you say stuff that can't be taken back. Right. And even if you forgive them, it's still in the back of your mind. But when you have a common goal and you know it's on the line, and if you are winning, then you tend to soft. Those blows tend to soften over time.
Starting point is 01:38:11 Some wounds don't heal. No. And if you're a petty grudge holder. You told me you were. I am. I am. It's very difficult for me. To get over stuff. I tend to not let things go. I'm working on it. I used to just say what I felt.
Starting point is 01:38:27 But as I've gotten older, I can look at it two ways. Have I become more mature or am I just a big fat liar? Because now I don't say, if somebody comes up, here's a prime example. So let's say, I've lived in a bunch of towns. And if somebody comes up to me and says, and they live in that town still, oh, do you miss blank? I always say, oh, yeah, I miss it. No, I don't. That's why I'm in L.A.
Starting point is 01:38:49 I don't like, I didn't like the other places. So you always have to say, oh, I love living blank. And so otherwise, they'll hate you and say bad things about you. So am I like, do you miss this city? Do you miss living in blank where I live? And I'm like, oh, God, yes, I just loved. I love. Well, I think you can say, like, I don't necessarily miss living there, but there are things about that place that I miss.
Starting point is 01:39:13 I love power lines down. and living in the dark for weeks on end because of blizzards. I love it. I miss it. I don't miss living in Pittsburgh. I can say that with full conviction. But can you say it to somebody's face? Yes.
Starting point is 01:39:25 I'm saying it to everyone's face right now. I grew up in Pittsburgh. I don't want to live there anymore. My mother lives there. My sister lives there. Hey, guys, my family. I love Pittsburgh. Very dear to my heart.
Starting point is 01:39:35 It's my hometown. I'm not moving back there, though. It's cold there. All right, fair enough. You know what slushes? Yeah, I grew up with it. Yeah. No, I'm not interested.
Starting point is 01:39:41 I grew up with more water than snow, though. whatever slush is without the... Slush is the mixture of snow and water and dirt that leaves when it starts to warm up after the snow. Don't miss that. So the Lakers will be without Rajan Rondo for the next two weeks after he broke his hand last night.
Starting point is 01:39:58 When speaking to reporters after the game, LeBron made it clear how much Rondo will be missed. I mean, it's tough. I mean, he's one of our captains, one of our leaders. But I heard we got great surgeons here in L.A. So I get right to it.
Starting point is 01:40:13 it started his rehab as fast as possible in getting back but um it's next man up it's next man up i don't think he's valianto um and he hates the fact what he's going through right now but we all have to pick him up in his absence well i feel that javel magee and tyson chandler have become very valuable to this team because they are getting better defensively right and tyson chanler's their first string rim defender and javel mcgey is their backup rim defender i think that's the difference well also Lonzo is the future. So, I mean, Rondo is, Rondo is an important piece to this team, and I'm sure they're going to miss him over the next couple weeks. But this is an opportunity for Lanzo to show that he can step into that role and do it night in and night out. He's been more efficient this year.
Starting point is 01:40:56 Last night. Lanzo. There's 7th in the West right now. Lanzo was hitting threes all last night. I know everybody's always banging on Lanzo, but he's a six, five and a half point guard. He's a long, smart. He's a great passer. He's shooting better this year. I like it more than everybody else does. He brings energy. And when, when Lanzo is clicking the entire team, elevates. What happened to UCLA since he left?
Starting point is 01:41:15 Not the same program. They were boring without him. They were great with him. They were boring without him. I think he's pretty good. I think he's pretty good player. He is pretty good. Finally, Eagle Center, Jason Kelsey,
Starting point is 01:41:24 said the 4 and 5 Eagles have seen a drop in accountability this year from last year's Super Bowl team. And a lot of this was brought in part by departure of some key veterans. The biggest thing that you see, in my opinion, from this team to last year, at least offensively, is the cohesion, the, the people being accountable to the job that they're asked to do, everybody being on the same page.
Starting point is 01:41:47 You know, last year, it just seemed like everything was clicking. Everybody, you know, we had guys like, you know, Brent Selik, who had been here a lot of the time, who's very accountable. Tori Smith had been in the league for a long time, very accountable. That's what we're missing. I mean, we're missing that accountability. By the way, all these Philadelphia fans,
Starting point is 01:42:03 yap, yap, yap, yap, yap, yep, yap, when I said this. And now one of your own players is saying it. Where are all the yappy Philadelphia Eagle fans? Fans are not supposed to be humble after their team wins a Super Bowl. He is saying exactly what I predicted, which is you're going to win, he's going to go to your head. And yep, yep. Now, Jason Kelsey is saying essentially, yeah, we're not accountable. We're not practicing as hard.
Starting point is 01:42:25 So he's saying what we predicted. I want apologies today from the city of Philadelphia. I mean, it's hard to go hunt for your next meal when you've been living in a buffet for six months. Marvin Hagler said it's hard to be champ when you're sleeping in silk sheets. It's hard to get hit. the face. It is. It is. The climb to the top in a lot of ways becomes easier. Everybody has that climb. It's when you get to the top maintaining that level of success that's difficult. Joy Taylor with the news.
Starting point is 01:42:53 Well, that's the news. And thanks for stopping by. The Heard Lye News. We don't get him very often. Love it when we have him. Honest guy, smart guy. Been in the NBA for 14 years now. And by the way, he's also a former UCLA Bruin. So he knows that program. Well, let's bring in Matt Barnes. Want a title with the Warriors, 2017. Great to have Matt Barneson. So it's interesting. You know, you know, I was saying this yesterday. You played football.
Starting point is 01:43:17 You were a hell of a football player. And then you play basketball. And you could have been both. You could have been an NFL player. You could have been an NBA player. You could have played both. You were white, you know, so not many, not many guys. There's a couple NBA, there's a couple NFL guys.
Starting point is 01:43:30 Jimmy Graham maybe could have played in the NBA. Not many. Not many NBA guys could play in the NFL. Football is my first sport. And I really feel throughout my career you saw more than people thought I was dirty. I was a football player. I grew up playing tackle football on the street. That's why I just, and I always would run the lane like a receiver.
Starting point is 01:43:46 And that's just how I played. I played my whole career that way. So you were a physical guy. So you're a tough guy. When I think of you, I think of you're a tough guy. Draymond's a tough guy. And tough guys play with emotion. And I think teams need them.
Starting point is 01:44:02 I think Draymond's a valuable guy. I thought you were a valuable guy. You know, the Jordan Bulls, the Showtime Lakers, got to have a guy with a little edge. Right. Can all be living in the nice birds and the mansions of Beverly Hills. But did Dramon, according to Stephen Jackson, so we're going to play this tape. This is what Stephen, let's play this tape. You know Stephen Jackson.
Starting point is 01:44:22 Let's play this tape. Okay, what level you play on middle school, high school, NBA, any level of basketball, arguments between teammates happen. Let me say that. It can either hurt the morale of the team or I could either help the morale of the team. It could go both ways, right? I got into it with Jermaine O'Neill and Baron Davis. Y'all know they're my brothers to this day. I ride for him to this day.
Starting point is 01:44:43 The B word never came out. Now, one thing about that B word, it can be forgiven, but it won't be forgotten. Remember that. So Dremont used it at Kevin Durant. Do you agree with him? This is the first time I'm hearing that. It's tough.
Starting point is 01:44:59 You know what I mean? It's a tough situation. But to be honest with you, this kind of stuff happens all the time. And I think the fact that it's a warriors, it's a bigger deal. You know, when you're at the top, they look for any reason to talk and cause dysfunction within your family. But the locker room is very tight. I knew all along that, to me, I think what happened was, Draymond's one of the best playmakers in the game. I think Draymond was going to push the ball.
Starting point is 01:45:21 He knew he had clay on the right wing. He knew he had, I think, someone cutting to the basket, someone on the left wing, and Katie was trailing. To me, it looked like Draymond was going to attack the middle and either flip it to the left to Clay or just toss it back to Katie, but drag everyone in. And the turnover happened. So I think at the end of the day, what happened to me is I think is that Draymond felt bad that he made the turnover. So no one was more mad at anyone than Drayman was mad at itself. And I think that maybe once a guy started talking to him about it, like,
Starting point is 01:45:50 you should have passed me the ball. He snapped. Snap. That kind of stuff happens. You know what I mean? But like I said, I just think the fact that it's them. And it happened against in L.A. It was a big deal.
Starting point is 01:46:02 Matt, but it is interesting, though, because, you know, the NFL, dynasties don't last long, usually because of injuries, guys get hurt. It's just players get hurt. In the NBA, dynasties don't last long because stars can't get along. Kobe and Shaq. You know, Westbrook and, that could have been a dynasty, Westbrook and KD. It does feel like, I know you were in this locker room, but it does feel like in the last six months with Golden State, little tears in the fabric. I mean, you're the top of the world. Superstars, all shooters, scores. To be honest, I wouldn't say that.
Starting point is 01:46:37 I would completely disagree with from the standpoint of that's what made that team so special was there was no egos. And even though they've gathered a lot of talented Hall of Fame type players, the one thing is they leave their ego at the door. So like I said, this could be a headbut, but I see this team using this more as motivation than allowing them to separate. You know, like Katie was probably mad. Drey Moll was probably mad once they cooled down. I knew they would talk. They're real friends off the court. You know what I mean?
Starting point is 01:47:03 So I think the fact that, you know, they had a time to. Cool off, talk, and let's move forward. We're not going to be talking about this in about a week or two. Hopefully not that long. There are rumors now that Kevin Durant, he's a little bit of a personality. I mean, he was in, and I don't blame him. I'm always for the player. Owners move.
Starting point is 01:47:20 Why can't players move? But there are people, there is this agitation. He joins San Francisco, Golden State, and everybody's like, well, they won without you. And, you know, you go to Twitter and they're kind of banging on you. That's a real thing with KD. He's burner accounts. There are certain players, Matt, they hear the noise. They listen to the media.
Starting point is 01:47:41 Maybe you weren't. No, I listened to it. But I used to do crazy things. I would go on there before games and look for negative comments to fire me up. I think, KD, like, at the end of the day, we're human. You can only ignore so much stuff. And on his level, at one time he almost had the whole world throwing stones at him, like, I'm going to fire back because he cussing left and right.
Starting point is 01:48:00 The NBA would have been fine at me left and right. You know what I mean? because just people think they can say anything to you. And we're at the end, before Hoopers, we're men. Like, you can't just say, I'm grown. You can't say anything to me. So I'm a fireback. But at the same time, I think he uses it as,
Starting point is 01:48:15 he's the most efficient score this game has ever seen. You know what I mean? He's going to go down on the all-time scoring list when it's all said and done. So I just think he uses it as fires. And if he wants to, you know, keep his free agency up in the air, I mean, that's his, it's him. It's his life. It's his game.
Starting point is 01:48:30 Like his mom said, I think I saw a clip of his mom. he's going to make the best decision for him. I know he loves it in Golden State. He loves all the business stuff. He's doing off the court out there. And like I said, that is a real group of friends and family. Like they hang out off the court. People's kids hang out.
Starting point is 01:48:43 So it's a real different culture over there. You know what I mean? So like I said, I think this is a big deal because it's the Warriors one, two, what happened in L.A. And the fact that it's Katie and Draymond. But outside of that, like I said, people fight in practice. People almost fight in games, teammates, you know what I mean? So it's not that big of a deal.
Starting point is 01:49:00 Were you ever in a bad locker room? I was, our clip of locker room wasn't a bad locker room, but there was a lot of tension. There was a lot of egos in that locker room. And I was, as crazy as it sounds, I was kind of the one that would smooth everything over. I was the bridge of communication for a lot of guys because guys couldn't really talk without arguing or getting frustrated. So I've been in, I wouldn't say bad locker rooms. I've been in a locker room where there was a lot of ego in locker rooms. There was Blake and there was a lot of ego in that locker room.
Starting point is 01:49:29 All good guys, still friends, all of them, but there was definitely a lot of ego. Let's go to the Lakers. I went to the Lakers game last night. night, LeBron surpassed Will. You've played with the Lakers, the brand. It's a great place. When Staples is rocking, it feels bigger. It's the best. It's just great.
Starting point is 01:49:43 I was saying this. It was funny watching LeBron. He really, you can tell, he's trying to get everybody involved. This was last night. So the first quarter, pass, pass, pass. They trail by 10. Second quarter, takes
Starting point is 01:49:58 it over for about a three-minute microburst, comes in, doesn't, they cut it to like eight. And the third quarter, in the end, I think he really is trying to be different. Not as ball dominant. But ultimately this team last night, he had to put the cape on. And then Brandon Ingram hit a three.
Starting point is 01:50:18 He felt engaged. It's a weird situation. You know, there's the old saying, your game is your game. We're asking LeBron not to be as dominant as LeBron. Aren't we? Like you watch it now. It's a little slightly less aggressive
Starting point is 01:50:34 LeBron? When you watch, what do you see? All I see is him early in the season sitting back and finding out exactly what he has. What do I have out here? We know what LeBron is going to give you. And I think in March and April, when it's time to go, he is going to be the ball dominant
Starting point is 01:50:50 that they need him to be. But at the same time, by that time, they're going to have chemistry and confidence. So he knows he's going to be able to drop the ball to coos. He knows that Ingram's going to be able to ISO. I love Lanzo ball. Like his quickness, his defense. You like him? He love him, his confidence with his shooting, and he changes the dynamic of the game.
Starting point is 01:51:08 He, his first step is incredible. His anticipation on defense is incredible. His ball defense is incredible. So I really like what he's doing. Unfortunately, Rondo went down. But like I said, you know what you have in Rondo, too. So now you're going to be able to see balls step up. This is your, make a choice.
Starting point is 01:51:24 Last night, Mark Jackson said at some point, Luke needs to make a choice between who I'm going with, let that person ride out and give him a chance to succeed. And I agree. I agree with that. I think it's Lonzo. Lonzo is the future of that team. I think there's no question with that. And I love Kuzma as well. I mean, they got a great young core.
Starting point is 01:51:41 Javelle McGee, I'm so happy for him. He's getting a chance to really play and play well. And then picking up Tyson was an amazing free agent pickup. But I think Tyson's going to serve more dividend in the locker room, showing these kids how to be pros and how to go about their business every single day. So I really like where the Lakers are headed. But to get back to your point, LeBron is sitting back right. He knows this is a marathon.
Starting point is 01:51:59 These games don't even matter right now. The season doesn't start until All-Star Break March. So LeBron is sitting back. Let me see what I have. Let me save my legs. Every once in a while, because I'm in L.A., I'm going to still be Superman and put on a show, and now I'm top five.
Starting point is 01:52:12 He can still do that whenever he wants. That's what it felt like. To me, he wants these guys that, like I said, you know what you get with him. One of the greatest players ever. So let me find out what else I have on this roster. So I like what he's doing. Let me ask you, though.
Starting point is 01:52:23 You didn't mention Brandon Ingram. He's frustrated at me. He teases me. There are moments I'm like, he's got some KD, and then he doesn't. how long do you give this? This is third year now. He's at 15 a game.
Starting point is 01:52:37 His numbers are down. Matt, how long do you give Brandon Ingram? I roll with Brandon Ingram a little bit. I mean, I'm going to roll with him this season, obviously, but you've got to think, like, this is not a team where you're going to get, they don't need Brandon Ingram right now to score 20 because they got Coos scoring. They got Ingram scoring.
Starting point is 01:52:52 They got LeBron scoring. They got Javelle playing great. You know, they got Josh Hart shooting the ball. Well, Lance can pop up and give you 25. Like, they have a lot of different options. To me, they're dangerous because any given night they have six or seven guys and give you 25 or 30. You know, it's interesting. I said this.
Starting point is 01:53:08 Portland's got three guys. That's most of their scoring. Right. I watched the Lakers last night. Dangerous. Lakers are deep. Dangerous. They're real.
Starting point is 01:53:16 Now, we know Superman. We know LeBron's got to put the cape on. But I got to tell you, you mentioned somebody. When you watch them in person, Javelle McGee matters. Oh, man, I love it. I love Javelle. He is really. But to me, I don't have to cut you up.
Starting point is 01:53:29 I'm sorry. With the Warriors, I see. because we're friends and I see what Javel when you kind of would give him that that that that cord and get let him go he would act wild he would start shooting threes or pull up sometimes but I think he realizes now like let me do what I'm really good at all the time consistently and then you know it won't be as bad when I shoot a three every once in a while you know but if you're kind of in between the motions you know you can't do that but he's he's cam here he's reinvented his self you know he lives here in the offseason so he's home all the time now and he's really playing
Starting point is 01:53:59 well. Before we let you go, Matt, we haven't had you on since this controversy came out. The Kobe flinch ball thing. That became so ridiculous. Crazy. It took over the world for like three days. So this was a legendary play. You, Kobe, sideline. And then this video came out, this sort of on top video. So for years and years, we thought Kobe was a tough guy. And then the video comes out.
Starting point is 01:54:23 And the video, now what do you make of this? It's nothing. It's nothing. It's nothing. Did you put the ball in his face? Yeah, I put the ball in his face, and he didn't flinch. You know what I mean? So to me, like, who has, how are you just looking through film and happened to see this different view with almost 10 years later?
Starting point is 01:54:42 It's ridiculous. But, I mean, like, people think, like, that we weren't friends or we were enemies. Like, he recruited me to the team, like, a couple months after this play happened. And then just yesterday, he worked my kids out for their birthday. Like, I was surprised. Yeah, I took them out to Orange County, and he put him through a whole little Mamba session yesterday and they absolutely loved it. So me and Kobe are cool. This was never really
Starting point is 01:55:02 a big deal. Like I said, this is really why how I ended up coming to the Lakers, to be honest with you. So, I mean, but it's not people, to this day on post, Kobe didn't flinch. I'm like, that was 10 years. Like, what are you talking about right now? Like, okay, and you would flinch? It's the internet, man. Right, it's great.
Starting point is 01:55:19 People talk crazy on here. Hey, it's great seeing you again. I love when you come on. I'm going to be around more. We're talking about some things. I'm going to be around more. Oh, here? Yes, I'm going to be around here more. That's great. Yeah. That's great.
Starting point is 01:55:30 You're always... Hi, Joy. Hey, Matt. How are you? Good. You got your stuff. Yeah, I just had somebody of huge NBA influence. I'm not even going to tell you who this is.
Starting point is 01:55:38 I'll tell you after the... I don't want to tell the audience. He said, Matt Barnes nailed it. A man of huge influence. In America, that knows the basketball. I know a little bit. I know what's going on a little bit. Okay, Matt.
Starting point is 01:55:53 Good talking to you, bud. Best for Last is around the corner. Fox Sports and Major League Baseball. reached a new multi-year multi-platform rights agreement, expanding the networks, television, digital, and Spanish language rights, and cementing Fox Sports as the home to baseball's marque events for the next decade. Well, the reason the NFL is bigger than college football is because it's played in major metropolitan areas like, you know, Philadelphia and New York and New York, same with baseball. Baseball is wildly popular in New York, Detroit, and St. Louis, and Boston, and Chicago and Philadelphia, and Los Angeles, and San Francisco, so it's good to be in business with Major League Baseball.
Starting point is 01:56:32 Nobody, no sport in America has more people that sits in seats than Major League Baseball. So Fox now has another relationship. I think it's our third or fourth deal with Major League Baseball World Series exclusively, a championship series, one of the two, exclusively, two division series, the All-Star game, all that stuff. Great news. By the way, so let's do our best for last. After almost three hours, Colin apparently hasn't gotten to the point.
Starting point is 01:56:58 yet. Quit holding out on us, cowherd. It's the best for last. So I called a friend of mine, and I got tickets to the Lakers last night, and I got pretty good seats, and it was LeBron, just happened to score 44, break Wilk Chamberlain's all-time scoring record, and he's an amazing player. Every time I go see LeBron in person, mostly watch him on TV, but when I go a handful of times every year, I watch them in Miami, I watch him in Los Angeles, and I'll watch him a bunch over the next five years when he plays four or five years. I'm struck by how much better he is than everybody else. And he also has this thing now where he lets the game come to him,
Starting point is 01:57:32 and he has these sort of bursts, these kind of Superman cape moments where he puts it on for two or three minutes, very efficient. And he takes the game over. There was a great play last night. I went to the game that just happened to be right next to my seats. Let's show this. Brod he blocks it.
Starting point is 01:57:49 LeBron blocks it at the other end. Here we go. LeBron James. Spinning. LeBron all the way. He scores it. LeBron. This crowd.
Starting point is 01:57:58 It is absolutely going nuts. Yeah, I get crap for this. Because I'm sitting right there, and LeBron James goes up and blocks the, you know what, and I got a, can I not, I wasn't in the media. Never seen you that excited. I got excited. It was an incredible play. LeBron was right in my face.
Starting point is 01:58:18 Everybody's like, coward, you're not supposed to room for it. It was amazing. But here was the most amazing moment. So there are my seats. And in the second half, you know, the Lakers were. shooting free throws right in front of me, right? And I make eye contact with the guy, so it's not that big of a deal, but LeBron at one point was on the low block right next to me.
Starting point is 01:58:40 So the closest player to me was LeBron. And NBA players, they know who's at the games. And so LeBron looked over to me and talked, said something, and you can see it right here. He's talking to me and laughing. And the guy next to me is like, dude, LeBron's talking to you. And I couldn't exactly hear what he was saying. So you can, you know, he's looking at me into E.
Starting point is 01:59:00 And the guy next to me is like, how cool is that? So I came in this, I couldn't tell what he said. So I came in this morning and I went to our tape archive and you can actually, Joy, pick up what he says. Oh, wow. Okay. So here, let's play it now with the raw audio of it. Go ahead. Can we hear it?
Starting point is 01:59:21 I can't hear it. Hold on. Can we show it? Audio. Can you hear that? I cannot know. Okay. Our guys are not letting us hear the audio.
Starting point is 01:59:30 Maybe it's a trick. and they want us to read his lips. No, I did say. Here we go. There you, Colin Gaw. Big food. How about that? That is amazing.
Starting point is 01:59:43 That is amazing. I'm a big fan of yours, too, LeBron. That is, how great is that? I think we should play that again. I think, well, you don't think it's real? I mean, he said something. Let's let's, this, I, hey, listen, he obviously. He obviously watches the show.
Starting point is 02:00:02 We talk about him all the time. You know, he watches the show occasionally. He's sitting home occasionally. Let's play this again. I think it's very obvious. There you're calling go. Big friend. That is amazing.
Starting point is 02:00:19 I am a big fan of yours, too. That is amazing. I wouldn't say I'm an expert at reading lips, but it feels doctored. All right. That is doctored. Just slightly. We doctored it. He did say something to you, though.
Starting point is 02:00:35 He did, but I don't know what it was. I was hoping it was that. I'm going to have to watch the video a few more times. So that's savvy. It's a comedian. Savvy the amusing. We used him as our voice guy. I don't know what he said.
Starting point is 02:00:46 He turned to me and said something. And I don't know what he said. You're in an arena. Right. It's quite loud. But he did turn and he said something to me. And I, you know, I'm bummed out. I did tell what is I going to do.
Starting point is 02:00:57 Could you repeat yourself? You're in the middle of an NBA game. I know you're very busy. repeat what you said. It's going to frustrate me now that I can't. I couldn't figure it out. Well, here's the thing is I'm not going to say where I got the tickets from, but I got the tickets from somebody that LeBron and I are both good friends with. How's that? So my guess what he said, hey, you got, I know where you got those tickets
Starting point is 02:01:21 because he was smiling and laughing when he talked at me. And he knows where I got the tickets because it's a friend of his and it's a, I can't make it out. I know. It's. John said something I'm here about Skip Bayliss. No, we're not going to go there. So anyway, it was fun. It's fun to watch greatness, man. You go see Tom Brady Live.
