We are live in Los Angeles.
The place to be today on IHAR Radio, Fox Sports Radio on FS1.
Joy Taylor is joining me on a Tuesday.
Well, well, well, we've got another LeBron drama story.
What is it?
As the Lakers turn.
As the Lakers turn.
Let me ask you,
When you want to break up with somebody and you don't want to confront them, right, like it's a difficult breakup, what are the two ways you do it?
You either start to pick fights, you start to nitpick fights, create fights and drama so you can escape and say, this just doesn't work for me.
Or you get really quiet.
The other partner gets really quiet.
You're trying to separate.
So the story today, Bill Plashky, very, very tied in to the Lakers.
He's an award-winning columnist for the L.A. Times, been here forever.
He said, on a radio show yesterday, I'm hearing that if the Lakers whiff on free agency,
if they whiff on a trade, okay, they've got big trouble with LeBron.
I mean, the LeBron era could be over before it starts here.
I heard this for the first time yesterday.
somebody very connected said, you know what, if they whiff, LeBron's going to say either I'm out or get me out of here.
Dave McMinneman, very close through the years covering LeBron, backed him up and said basically if it's July 10th in L.A.
And they get the guy from Orlando, they have to settle for him as a free agent.
And it doesn't meet the criterion of bringing a star here.
You can imagine what's going to happen here and where this thing is going to go.
Okay, first of all, I don't think this is possible.
think it's probable and I think the ejector seat, it's all lining up.
I think this is all lining up.
I've told you, I think it's a Jimmy Butler Hail Mary for the Lakers.
Ask yourself this.
Again, when you're breaking up with somebody, what are the two ways, all you guys
are gals listening, you want out of a relationship.
You either start picking fights.
LeBron's not going to do that.
He's not really that kind of, he's never gotten to, you know, LeBron doesn't get
technicals.
He doesn't get in fights.
That's not his personality.
Or you go like dark 30.
You separate.
You stop talking.
You stop being verbal with your partner.
LeBron James has gone quiet for almost three to four months.
You don't see him anywhere in town.
You don't see him anywhere with the Lakers.
Why?
Because this nonsense is bad for his brand.
He doesn't know Rob Polinka.
Doesn't already know Jeannie Bus.
It's bad for his brand.
LeBron doesn't want to be known as the guy
nobody wants to play with.
LeBron's like magic. He's the great communicator.
He elevates others. He plays well with others.
This is terrible for his brand.
And the ejector seats all lining up here.
When magic bailed on the Lakers, it was the perfect out for LeBron.
LeBron can say, hey, magic bailed on these guys.
The heart and soul of the franchise is like I'm out.
I can't leave.
This story comes out today.
Again, the ejector seat.
Philadelphia, 76ers,
are expected to offer Jimmy Butler a max extension.
Now, Jimmy Butler's an older player.
Jimmy Butler wants his money.
Okay, Jimmy Butler likes L.A.,
but L.A. can't offer him that kind of money.
31-year-old guys who haven't gotten the big contract,
asked Paul George, generally take the guarantee.
money. Jimmy Butler plays hard. Jimmy Butler
could get hurt. That's why I think Toronto still
has a chance to get Kauai. It's 35 million
bucks for a guy that gets beat up.
Okay, so
don't kid yourself on this story. I don't think it's
possible. I don't think LeBron ends his career
in Los Angeles. This year
or next. In fact,
in my opinion, there's something going
on in Los Angeles, which is not
being discussed on a national level.
When the NFL
came to town the Rams, they're building a new stadium.
they started stealing market share from the other teams.
That's why getting LeBron here was a big deal for the Lakers.
The Dodgers are seven games ahead of the National League.
They're the best run organization in town.
All they do is win their division every year and get three, four million people.
So they're stealing market share.
And right now, this is the best team they've ever had.
This is the best team in baseball is arguably the Dodgers,
the best team they've had.
There's seven games ahead of the National League.
Now you've got the Rams in town, building a new stadium.
NFL moving some operations out to L.
Super Bowls. Oh, the Chargers. Now you've got LAAFC, which is this new young, hip soccer thing that's a big hot thing in Los Angeles, downtown in the city. It's catching fire. You've also got the clippers that share a building with you are now giving the Warriors a real series. So you got market share slowly but surely pulling away from the Lakers. And that's why I believe these Kyrie Irving to the Laker Reworthy.
They're started by the Lakers.
They're just trying to stay relevant in this city.
Clay Thompson's not coming here.
KD's not coming here.
Kauai's not coming here.
Kyrie Irving's not coming here.
And now Jimmy Butler's not coming here.
And you also have a reality with Anthony Davis.
We have two people who I trust who have gone public with this.
Gail Benson does not want to trade Anthony Davis to the Lakers.
She hates the Lakers.
She owns the Pelicans.
Now, I'm not saying they couldn't just massively overpay,
give every draft pick, every player to get Anthony Davis.
I'm sure LeBron, you know, he didn't want to play with the young guys.
He wants a star.
But I do not believe LeBron retires as a basketball player, maybe as a person he retires in L.A.
I do not think he retires as a basketball player with the Lakers.
And the story this morning, Bill Plashky and Dave McMenaman tied in saying,
if they don't land somebody or if they land a second-tier guy from Orlando, he may just say,
I'm out.
Get me out of here.
Remember I had the LeBronso meter?
So we had the LeBronso meter.
We thought LeBronzo meter.
We kept bringing up the LeBronzo meter, and you guys gave me flack.
It eventually was right.
Now we have the LaGonzo meter.
LeBron's going to be gone meter.
And right now I think it's at 50%.
I really do.
I think it's all lining up.
He's distancing himself.
Magic retires the ball.
perfect out. Jimmy Butler signs a max in Philadelphia. The other guys don't end up here.
And Anthony Davis, Pelican, say, we're not doing it. You think LeBron James, who's been ahead
of this league for 15 years, who's one of the great businessman in the history of the league,
you don't think he's thought about this stuff, and for the record. There's all sorts of teams.
This could be beneficial for the Lakers, LeBron, and somebody else. Boston's got all sorts
of pieces. The Philadelphia 76ers have all sorts of talent. None of it really fits.
This could be a win, win, win for everybody. It's a win for LeBron. He can go back to the East
and get into the playoffs guaranteed. He can play with better players and more veteran players,
and it's potentially a win for the Lakers. They could get an infusion of talent.
But I don't think this story is a possible. I think it's a probable. I really do.
Let me shift gears. Now to this. Odell Beckham is reporting to the Browns today. These are
mandatory minicamp workouts.
He missed nine of the 10 OTAs in the voluntary.
But when he missed those, you know, guys like me are like, that's not great.
But remember the business OBJ is in.
He's really an NBA player in the NFL.
Noise is great for Odell Beckham.
It's good for his brand.
It made him rich.
It sells his shoes.
When he doesn't show up for volunteers, it's a business decision.
It got him in the news.
What players were we talking about at OTAs?
Oh, one, OBJ.
If something made you rich and famous, would you stop doing it?
I think Beyonce is going to stop singing.
The bottom line is the best business relationships.
And this is why OBJ and Cleveland's fascinating.
The best business relationships are when you,
Your interests, you and me as employees, aligns with the business interests.
Tucker Carlson used to be on MSNBC.
That did not align.
Conservative guy on a liberal network.
They broke up.
That's why the Beatles broke up.
John Lennon was the brooding star, wanted to do serious music.
And Paul McCartney's like, I like the pop stuff.
It's popular and sells records.
Beatles broke up.
Here's the reality of OBJ's business.
and it's made him rich, it's made him famous,
and he's really, I would argue,
the only global star in this league.
Tom Brady's second, and I think way back,
never forget, Instagram followers,
OBJ's got over double Tom Brady,
and Tom Brady second,
is that he bought a Rolls Royce the other day, OBJ.
It was orange.
Why?
It made news.
OBJ's in the noise business.
You're an interesting.
in an end zone, buying an orange Rolls Royce, skipping OTAs.
These have made him rich.
These sell his shoes.
He's seen as independent pushbacks at authority.
That's good for his business.
Now, we also know the conflict here.
Noise is terrible for the NFL business.
It unraveled the great Seattle Seahawks apparent dynasty.
Joyce from Pittsburgh.
They have underachieve now for three straight years.
Yeah.
The New York Giants, Oakland, Philadelphia after the Super Bowl got noisy.
Then they cleaned it up and got quiet again.
So here's what we know.
The best business relationships are when the employee's interests align with the company's interests.
Brady's aspirational and wants to win, willing to take pay cuts.
New England's aspirational wants to win and asks players to take pay cuts.
Brady, Patriots, perfect.
His interests align with New England's.
But OBJs do not align with any NFL team.
And he's gotten rich and famous off his interest,
which are make some great plays.
He certainly wants to win games.
But you don't end up with a supermodel in a hotel room in the sheets
because you make great catches.
You end up there because you're a global star.
that's who he is.
And in the NFL noise is bad for OBJ, noise isn't good.
Noise is great.
By the way, if you look at the people that sell shoes,
they don't always have the most titles.
They have the most discussion in Instagram and followers and talked about and viral.
That's what Nike's looking at.
They're not looking at his catches.
Nike's looking at, man, he's got 14 million Instagram followers.
Oh, my God, he moves product.
Oh, my God, young kids love him.
By the way, Julio Jones a better receiver.
Nobody's buying issues.
All right?
So I think what's fascinating about Cleveland and Odell Beckham
is they both have different business interests.
I mean, yeah, they both want to win, duh.
But winning's not what has made Odell Beckham rich.
The Giants didn't win.
What made him rich was noise.
Skipping OTAs.
Noise. Orange Rolls Royce. Noise.
A couple of nice catches with Baker here over the next top couple of weeks.
Watch them show up on viral media.
Watch over the next week.
You're going to see, this will make noise, Baker and Odell.
He'll have a one-handed catch, and Odell's people will,
won't be about a great play by the Browns.
It'll be about Odell making a catch.
They put it on the viral stuff.
It catches fire.
Instagram followers, OMG.
It's going to be fascinating.
It's going to be absolutely fascinating.
Can't wait to watch it.
Odell Beckham at a mandatory mini camp today.
It'll only last a couple of days.
Coming up next, talk about disrespect to the Toronto Raptors.
I mean, it's really incredible what's happening.
That's coming up next.

On Hurtle with Emily Abadi, we sit down with the most inspiring women in sports and wellness,

and the mindset that keeps them going.
From the WNBA standout Kate Martin and rising hockey star Layla Edwards.
If a boy can do it, I don't see why a girl can't.
Like, I've never understood that.
Like, it didn't make sense in my brain.
It's hard to be in spaces that no one looks like you, but don't ever feel like you don't feel like you don't feel on.
Don't let that be the reason you don't do it.
An Olympic champs Gabby Thomas and Katie Ladeki.
The ability to show a gold medal to someone and have their face light up and smile, that means the world to me.
And that's what motivates me to win more gold medals.
At our level, at this scale, like being able to fail in front of the entire world.
Like, I can do anything.
I can do anything.
Because resilience isn't just about winning.
It's about showing up, even when it's hard.

Steve Burns, Dustin Ross,

Doug Gottlie will be joining us this hour.
LeVar Ball next hour.
I am going to pin LeVar down on serious basketball stuff
because actually he was wildly accurate on most of his predictions
what would happen.
He should be.
Lonzo's his son.
He does have a pipeline to the organization.
So we'll talk about that.
Heardline news in a couple of minutes with Joy, of course.
This story this morning, I mean, the Warriors are falling apart.
Clay Thompson, MRI confirmed he has a hamstring strain,
so he will not beat 100%.
I don't know how you play with a bad hamstring in the NBA.
I don't know how you do it.
I don't know how you guard anybody.
Now, he's a catch and shoot guy.
You can throw the ball to him.
He can shoot.
That won't hurt him.
But what is remarkable,
Kavon Looney is also out.
Boogie cousins and Iggy are not at 100%.
In fact,
boogie's not out.
He's just out of shape.
And Kevin Durant will not play.
It is remarkable to me that Las Vegas has Golden State
as a six-point favorite tomorrow night.
I will take Toronto.
They don't play lousy generally in back.
the back games. It's a veteran team. They can't shoot that poorly. Pascals Sey will play better than he
played last game. Lowry was annoying at best last game. I think Toronto will actually play great
and take a two-one series lead. The Warriors' offense is going to be fine if Clay's hobbling around
the court. Listen, they shot 46.5% against the Raptors in four games so far this year.
Offense, you know, they'll shoot 46%. They shot about 47% against the rest of the league,
so Toronto's defense is better.
But you talk about losing flexibility defensively.
Iggy's a great defender.
He's not healthy.
Clay is a great defender.
I'm sorry, but hamstring strain does not go away in four days.
So, and Vegas must know something because they got him as a six-point favorite.
And by the way, it opened at five and a half.
It's gone up to six.
And the only thing I can guess on this is that this series,
this will be the first game at Oracle since I think May.
12th or May 15th, May 16th.
So Oracle's been sitting there for a couple of weeks,
dying for NBA basketball.
So it will be like game one in Toronto.
It'll be a madhouse.
You saw by game two in Toronto,
the crowd wasn't as quiet, wasn't jacked up.
But when an NBA team hasn't been home for a while
and it's a great NBA team and they need a ton of support
because they're all beat up,
this is not like they're going in fully ammo ready to go,
locked and loaded.
So Vegas, it's amazing to me, it's disrespectful, that Kevin Durant's out, Clay won't be close to 100%.
Kvon Looney, who's become a reliable player for them is out.
Boogie and Iggy are hurt, and Golden State is a six-point favorite.
That's incredible.
That is just incredible in an NBA finals.
If I'm Toronto, if I'm Nick Nurse, I walk into the whiteboard in the locker room, and I just put minus six.
that's what the league thinks of you.
That's what Vegas thinks of you.
You're a six-point dog.
That's a shocking number.
I'm not going to bet it because earlier this year,
I saw a number in the NBA.
I thought it was the easiest bet of my life.
And for two weeks after that,
my family and I ate top ramen if we ate at all.
So I'm not betting it.
I'm just saying it's disrespectful.
Joy with the news.
No, no, no, no.
Turn on the news.
This is the herd line news.
Ramen is so good in college, though.
What's that?
Robaman.
Oh.
And what a great meal.
Pustle hot sauce on it.
It was an entree.
It wasn't even an app.
And everyone has their specific way that they cook it, like the amount of time they have it in there.
They get the noodles right.
Good meal.
The best.
Sticking with those Warriors injuries, they're going to need contributions from just about everyone who sees the court and great games from Steph and Dremont, which is why the latest finals MVP odds have Steph as a big favorite.
minus 200, followed by Kauai Leonard, it was plus 280, and then J.Mong Green, Clay Thompson,
Kevin Durant, and Pascal C. Akum.
Makes sense.
Well, he was reported last night there's some optimism amongst the Warriors that Clay will play,
despite that Hamshank Strain, as you just said, I'm with you.
Even if he does play, he's not going to be 100%.
He can't play defensively.
He won't be the same player.
Right.
And like you said, I just don't think that the Raptors, they're too good of a team,
and they're two seasons of a team.
Danny Green, Kaui Leonard.
They've been there before.
They're going to make adjustments.
They're not going to play the same defensively that they did,
certainly in the third quarter, knowing that's when the Warriors tend to go on those runs.
So, I mean, the odds have changed a lot from pre-game one until now.
But, I mean, Steph Curry being the favorite makes sense,
because Steph Curry is going to have to be otherworldly.
Vegas is telling you they think Golden State's going to win the series.
Yeah, they are saying that, which I don't believe.
And I'm with you.
I think Toronto
Toronto wins tomorrow
I think Toronto wins tomorrow
The wine and cheese crowd
is going to be a little more
turt than usual
What's that word again?
Tert?
That's a word I don't use much
I like that word.
I don't use tern't much?
I don't use tern much.
You should sprinkle it in sparingly
but it's going to be a little more
than usual.
You got me to say lit
at least once a week now.
I was not responsible for that.
I will not take credit for that.
Kauai Leonard has obviously
had a successful first season
with the Raptors
which has led many
to wonder
if he's going to stay in Toronto.
beyond this year because most of us felt like it was going to be a one-year situation.
But yesterday some interesting news got out there.
Michael Landsberg of TSN 1050 in Toronto has reported that Kauai has purchased property in Toronto.
Now, Kauai also owns property in Southern California.
Right.
But his house in Southern California is nowhere near.
It's like an hour away down by San Diego.
It's very, it's not where he's going to live if he comes here and plays for the Clippers.
It's not realistic.
I mean, you need a plane, literally.
Forget a helicopter.
Like, it's not close.
So, I mean, it's a massive house, but not where he's going to stay if he plays for the club or swing the season.
No, I mean, look, maybe he's interested in real estate.
So he's just, you know, he found a property.
I'm not a real estate icon.
But in Canada, I believe an American has to pay a 15% tax to buy property in Canada.
So if it's for investments, like Americans don't buy.
buy Canadian property for investments generally, at least not a residential property, maybe
billionaires buy stuff.
Right.
But it's like if I wanted to buy a place in Vancouver, which is my favorite city maybe in
North America, Vancouver, B.C., it's a 15% tax on top of Canadian taxes to begin with.
So it's not a great, I mean, I wouldn't think, again, I'm not a real estate icon here.
I wouldn't think there's better places in America to invest than Toronto.
Yeah, so an investment property doesn't make too much sense.
It doesn't make Miami, no state tax.
Right.
It just feels to me that wouldn't be an investment thing.
LA's economy is on fire.
California's economy on fire.
It's a good investment if you're going to live in it.
Well, although you did have a very nice penthouse available to you for free.
So I don't know.
Don't take that.
Finally, the Lakers were pretty lucky in the draft lottery.
They got the number four overall pick, but they might not be keeping that selection.
Oh.
According to ESPN, they are an active trade talks regarding the fourth pick and would be open to trading for a veteran who can help them win games next season.
I don't know.
I don't know about this.
I don't, you know, it's funny because I rely on my NBA scouts.
Guys I trust, they're very accurate.
They all love three players in the draft.
And then they all have a bunch of sleepers.
They always say this.
There's three guarantees in this draft.
Zion will be a good player.
John Morant, R.J. Barrett, is going to score.
And then all my scouts say, they all have a different...
Answer for after that.
Yeah, after that, I got four different guys I ask.
One of them likes the guy from Texas that Jackson.
Yeah, Jackson Hayes.
Two of my scouts love him and say, watch him in four years pop.
So I just think if I'm the Lakers with LeBron, I'm looking for guarantees, not could develop into.
I understand from the Lakers' perspective trading this pick.
That makes sense because you do need to put everything that you can around LeBron right now.
That said, I mean, the Lakers haven't really done the best job.
of putting people around LeBron that make LeBron better.
I mean, if we talk about the, they did bring in a lot of veterans last year.
I mean, it was the meme dream team.
Right.
But even when they brought them in, we were like, what are they doing?
Okay, maybe they, maybe they know something that we don't know.
Or maybe LeBron really does have relationships with all these guys.
Or maybe there's some crazy concoction that they have ruined, as we learned.
That wasn't the case.
So I don't know who exactly they're going to trade for with this number four pick.
It is still a good pick.
Yeah.
If you feel like you can trust your scouts and your culture and your organization to make the right decision.
If you go back to last 20 years, there's generally eight domestic players who sign a third NBA contract.
So the fourth pick, if you know what you're doing, you get a good player.
Right, if you know what you're doing.
You'll get a good player.
I mean, God, Kyle Kuzma and Josh Hart can play.
Look where they pick them.
I think we can throw so many examples out there.
Yeah.
Yeah.
But, I mean, from the Lakers perspective, it's not the worst decision to try and.
trade for a veteran.
Joy with the news.
Well, that's the news.
And thanks for stopping by.
The Hurd-Ly News.
Let's bring into the Dougger, Doug Gottlieb, Fox Sports Radio after our show, is I'm all gassed up on this story.
You do not believe LeBron James ever leaves L.A.
No.
No.
He actually likes it here.
You kind of like it here, too.
He has a child about to enter into high school, and, you know, he's taking a little.
his son out of Brentwood, and now he's going to move him to Sierra Canyon, which is now
the basketball factory of the valley.
And Dwayne Wade's going to put his kid there.
Once your kid's in high school, you're not moving.
It's just not happening.
And Jeannie Bus would be a moron financially to trade him.
Every piece of Laker paraphernalia, every ad dollar is based around 23 playing for the Lakers.
He's a cash cow, just like the Lakers are a cash cow.
It's not happening.
And this idea that they can't find anybody to trade for or anybody to take their money, by the way, which would be as much of an indictment on LeBron James as it would the culture and what's taken place within the Lakers organization, I find it really hard to believe that would happen.
But even if they didn't get any big names.
I don't think they will.
Well, look, they weren't that far off last year.
They just weren't.
And I tend to believe they will somehow.
via trade or via sign.
If you just get a legit starting center, right,
and you get shooters off of the bench who can play with LeBron James,
you're going to be a playoff team, a very competitive playoff team.
So there's a lot of dust that needs to settle.
Now, I will say this, Boogie Cousins, I think they get overpay and get him.
Yeah, why do you want Boogie Cousins?
Well, I'm saying, I don't think the Lakers,
I don't see all the players.
If Jimmy Butler signs a max, that was one of the better opportunities.
I think the Kyrie's story is a leak by the Lakers.
to seem relevant because they're not in an increasingly competitive market.
I don't see them adding, Clay's not coming, Kauai's not coming, KD's not coming.
I think you get to a point where Boogie Cousins looks pretty darn attractive.
If he plays well in this finals, he's skilled.
He played one game.
I know.
He hasn't stayed healthy the last two years.
And by the way, LeBron wants a guy who's either a rim protector or a stretch five.
He's neither.
He can shoot, but he's not a stretch five.
Like, doesn't really fit there.
They're going to try and trade for Anthony Davis.
That is where the fourth pick could end up.
You know, Brad Beale, you're going to have a new GM eventually with the Washington Wizards,
and people are going to try and pick off those pieces.
Obviously, the Wizards are going to try and get rid of John Wall's contract,
but nobody knows if he'll ever play again or what it'll look like when he comes back from injury.
You want to get Brad, you want Brad Beal.
I do.
There's still, you know, Kemba Walker's out there.
There's what happens with the Rockets?
The Rockets apparently are a fire sale.
And who's close friends with LeBron James?
It's Chris Paul, who once upon time for like,
five minutes was in fact a Laker. Again, I don't love that move, but the idea that no one's
coming to the Lakers feels kind of laughable. And even if they stood pat and they simply added a
couple of smart pieces, I actually think Lanzo Ball is going to be outstanding next year.
This is his first offseason where he can actually work on a basketball floor and he was getting
close last year. Kyle Kuzma's going to be better. I mean, obviously the big question is
Brandon Ingram's health, but it's not a terrible roster. They had a terrible culture and they had
terrible injuries, and they fell out of the playoffs, and it went south in a hurry.
But they're not trading LeBron James a year into a four-year contract when he's a cash cow,
his son's entering high school.
He likes it here.
All his boys have moved out here.
His whole corporation is out here, not in Cleveland.
It ain't happening.
By the way.
Sorry, it's total buzzkill.
No, no.
Listen, I just get excited about stuff.
I know you do.
I get very excited.
I got World Cup on Friday.
I just watched the craziest fight of a world.
my life, and now I got this.
Let me go into the Kauai thing.
He bought property in Toronto. I don't buy it, but
whatever, so I've heard... Toronto real estate
on fire, by the way. I'm not doubting that.
Real estate everywhere is
in America right now. It's pretty hot, right?
That's not actually America. I hate that.
Well, I mean, I'm saying in North America, I mean,
it's 15% charged to buy in Canada.
But it's also, Toronto
specifically, there's such massive
immigration. Right. And a
population rush there that
there's going to eventually, they believe, be a housing
crisis. This may be an investment
vehicle. I don't know. It's interesting. But it is, here
I'll say this about Kauai, is
that
as much as I respect all the NBA
writers in this country, I don't
think anybody has a clue. I honestly
don't think in my lifetime
I've ever seen a player.
The NBA has quirky guys.
It had Dennis Rodman. NFL
quirky guys, Ricky Williams, feel like
outcasts. The NBA kind of puts their arms
around the earth is flat, Kyrie.
Dennis Rodman.
Kauai. We've always had a guy that's kind of an
enigma, a little bit of a mystery. I think his body's
a mystery. Do you have any
inclination? No. I have
none. I got nothing for you.
I really do. Right?
And like, he has no
kind of facial expression that's just how he is.
He just, he comes to work every day,
and then he goes home and he doesn't give anybody
anything, and people are trying to react to his uncle.
Well, his uncle's around now. So maybe now his uncle
wants him to, like, yeah, but at the end of day,
Kwai's a grown man. He's going to make grown man
decisions. So, I mean, we're all
operating under the presumption that he wanted to play in LA. He wanted to play with the Clippers.
They kind of fit his personality. They need a ready-made star at his position. Like, it all kind of
makes sense, but we're all just kind of guessing. Let me ask you this. Chris Broussard said this
yesterday. He's only played over 66 games twice. 74 is the most. He missed an entire season. He
took 22 games offload management. He has a weird body that he knows I'm not built to do 95
games like LeBron. I'm not built for this.
Does that, I would be, if that was what I knew about my body, you know your body as a former
athlete.
Yeah. Kauai does. Why wouldn't you just take guaranteed money?
I'm not messing. Well, you're going to get guaranteed money. You're going to get less
guaranteed money. And again, but this is all in your wiring. Like, I think the difference
is like $40 million, but an additional year, right? So remember that just because you say,
well, there's a $40 million difference. And remember, he took a hit to get a trade out of
out of
$30 million.
San Antonio because he could have gotten
the Supermax there.
Right.
Right.
So he's already taking a hit.
Now you're talking about $70 million.
Remember,
if he signs a four-year contract,
wherever he goes,
he could then sign another one-year deal
and he could make up,
who knows, 30 or 40 million.
It could end up being a wash.
It's a little bit overblown.
Okay.
But can you really spend $120, $130 million?
I can't.
You could try.
Remember that boat you had
when you first came up to Connecticut?
Sold it an hour later.
You did.
Yes.
Yes.
If we all invested in real estate in northern Connecticut, we could burn through money really quickly
because it doesn't make you any money.
Right.
Outside of that, like, I do think we're guessing on a guy and we're assuming that he thinks
like we do.
We're like, man, that's a lot of money.
And Toronto loves you.
You're like an iconic star in an entire country.
On the other hand, L.A.'s home.
And it's all money he's not going to spend anyway, right?
I'm sure there's a kicker with his new balance deal where he gets more money.
and he'll get more endorsements, even if he says nothing.
We're all just guessing, but the money is not as great a difference as you're led to believe,
and money may not be the ultimate motivator for him.
He's already left $30 million in the table in San Antonio.
We'll talk about the final and the Warriors and this dynasty,
and how it's falling apart with Doug Gottlieb.
Stick around LeVar Ball next hour.

The question is, how do you conquer them?
On hurdle with Emily Abadi, we sit down with the most inspiring women in sports and wellness,
professional athletes, coaches, and Olympic champions to talk about the challenges that shaped them
and the mindset that keeps them going from the WNBA standout Kate Martin and rising hockey star Layla Edwards.
If a boy can do it, I don't see why a girl can't.
Like, I've never understood that.
Like, it didn't make sense in my brain.
It's hard to be in spaces that no one looks like you, but don't ever feel like you don't
Don't belong. Don't let that be the reason you don't do it.
An Olympic champs Gabby Thomas and Katie Ladeki.
The ability to show gold medal to someone and have their face light up and smile,
that means the world to me. And that's what motivates me to win more gold medals.
At our level, at this scale, like being able to fail in front of the entire world.
Like, I can do anything. I can do anything.
Because resilience isn't just about winning. It's about showing up, even when it's hard.

Doug Gottlieb, joining me, LeVar Ball next hour.
Corey Brewer is going to stop by the show today.
Was on that Mavs team, the big upset Mavs team.
Some have compared Toronto too.
Let's talk about the Warriors Dynasty.
Kevin Loney is out.
Clay Thompson hamstring.
He can catch and shoot.
I don't know if he'll be much defensively.
Boogie's out of shape.
KD's not playing.
Iggy's not perfect.
We don't know if Katie's not playing.
He's not playing game three.
Was that, is that ruled?
Was that official that he's out?
We don't think he's playing.
You know, and anyway, go ahead.
I'm sorry.
So I guess my point.
They're a mass unit.
They're a mess.
They're a mess.
And they just won on the road.
Like, can we, has any coach
in sports history ever gotten less credit than Steve Kerr?
We're like, wow, he's got the best players.
Not the other night he didn't.
He did not.
He did not have Clay Thompson.
not have Kevin Durant. He had Boogie Cousins off of multiple injuries and in his second game back,
and he had Steph Curry, who they're playing a boxing one on. And they won. On the road in Toronto.
Like, at some point, we need to stop and take a breath and realize over the last five years,
the last five years, the Golden State Warriors have been the best at something that I believe,
I believe, and some in the NBA believe, is a stat that can discuss how great your coaching adjustment.
are.
Yeah.
The third quarter is your adjustment quarter.
It's what did you see in the first half?
What were the adjustments you made for the second half?
You know the best team in the third quarter?
The last five years in the NBA is?
It's the Golden State Warriors.
I don't think it's even close.
One year it was one year it was close.
But yes, it's, well, the difference is there's been other teams that have been
fallen by the wayside.
The one constant has been the Warriors and this coaching staff.
From what they did defensively in game two, the Raptors
didn't have a bucket for what the first six minutes?
It was shocking.
Right?
It's all defense and adjustments and figuring out what they have, what they're doing,
and how do we take that away to the offense?
And how are they guarding us?
Okay, let's get some layups.
They're not just out there rolling the ball out and go like,
okay, we'll just manage you.
He does more than manage the psychology of stars
and of a dynasty where guys are exhausted at the process.
He's actually an incredible basketball coach
with a bunch of smart guys around him,
and they figure out the equation and they write up the problem at halftime
and they come up with the solution in the second half.
It's incredible.
And as much as this is generally how dynasties end, right?
The Celtics dynasty came to an end when Larry Bird's back went out.
Yeah.
Right?
And the Lakers, remember when the Lakers first run was,
Kareem got old and then Byron Scott one year got hurt.
Yep.
Okay.
The Lakers with Shaq and Kobe.
they lost to the pistons and they had all that infighting,
but Caramelone was hurt, Rick Fox was hurt,
they started to fall off with injuries.
This is how the one guy that's...
How about the heat?
Exactly, right?
Like D. Wade couldn't give you great back-to-back nights.
His knees were...
Well, not just that, but remember LeBron cramped up that one year in San Antonio.
His whole body is like convulsing because he has to do so much for the team.
So the point is that even though you're right,
it looks like Toronto should win this game because they just have healthier bodies
between Steph, the passing on this team, which is incredibly underrated, and the coaching staff, which is like not even discussed.
Nobody even says anything about it.
I still think the Warriors will find a way because the Warriors find away.
I want to talk about, let's shift gears now to, I want to talk OBJ.
And I said that he was my second story today is that, listen, when you're rich and famous, whatever makes you rich and famous when you're young, you're going to go back to it.
Your loyalty's not to your boss.
your loyalties to what makes you rich and famous.
Odell Beckman's been on a losing football team, and he got rich and famous.
And he got rich and famous and his Instagram followers.
And that's why Nike gave him a massive NBA shoe deal is because he's noisy.
It's good.
Noise is great for his business the other day.
Orange Rolls Royce all over the Internet.
He won the Internet for a day.
He wasn't practicing.
Skipping OTAs.
I could make the argument.
It was noisy.
He was independent.
I'll do it my way, is we know the NFL noise is not great.
We know in the NBA, noise is fine.
There's a lot of noise.
Players are more independent, more powerful.
What I think is fascinating with this, and I have no idea how it's going to end.
What really makes Odell Beckham money and made him famous globally is noise.
What kills NFL teams, Steelers, giants, is noise.
How does it work?
I, well, I generally agree with you and that, you know, the culture of NFL teams are like, speak quietly, what does it, speak softly and carry a big stick with Teddy Roosevelt, right?
I mean, like, you and I have seen the charges.
The chargers have, everybody talks about the personnel of the Browns, like the charges have better personnel on offense and on defense.
And my question is the arm strength of Philip Rivers is kind of late in the season, which we may get to a little bit later.
But we don't hear anything from Keenan Allen, right?
We don't hear anything from Hunter Henry now that he's back healthy.
We don't hear anything from these guys.
We don't hear anything from a lot of these teams.
The one pushback I will give you is it might just work.
And here's why.
He got his best friend on the other side.
And you have a quarterback who seems to know how to handle all the noise and all the nonsense.
It's just he kind of thrives on it.
Yeah.
Like Peyton Manning, Eli Manning, they don't roll like that.
Right?
That's not, they want everything.
They want, they want, they want
reps, they want to know exactly
where you're going to be, exactly when you're going to want to be
their perfectionist.
But remember, that's one of the reasons
Peyton struggled in the playoffs is because
things aren't as planned in the playoffs.
I mean, even the timeouts are longer, the half times are longer.
Everything, more than anything, like what was a penalty
is no longer a penalty.
And it throws your timing off.
And because he never had arm strength,
he knew exactly when somebody was going to be exactly where
and threw him completely off.
Baker thrives in chaos.
That's how he's at his.
best. And every scout
I talk to, they're like, well,
there's, you know, he's not quite as fast,
not quite strong enough, arm strength-wise,
whatever, but tell you what, if you give
him some guys, he just
finds a way and they
all gravitate towards him. He has
that it factor in terms of leadership he
just have. Now, I don't know if he has the talent,
and I also don't know their early schedule
is difficult. If they start out three and
three or two and four, and you've got a
rookie head coach who's unproven
and he starts saying Southern
expressions, it could go bad in a bad way. But I do think there's a certain genius to what John Dorsey's
built is like, look, I don't know if O'Dow Beckham Jr. works, but we didn't pay him that first
year's money. Right. We got him a quarterback who has, who has the ability to deal with his ego.
We got his best friend across the way, and we have a lot of talents. We feel like we're going to
score a lot of points. It might just work. It might not, which will make it fun for us.
Yeah, no, no. I think I said, but it might just work. I said last year to Joy, I found myself last
year. Generally, I come home
and I look where I can get
the two or three games I want to watch. Cleveland was
one of the games. It was like they were
fascinating. Here's my biggest problem.
And I said this when I was on first things
first, this was months ago. I said, like, look,
he can say he's about winning.
But when you're on the hands team
and you have the hands and your
entire image has been built around your ability
to catch balls here or there.
And one's rolling towards you and you
make the decision to bail out.
You have made it known to everybody in the NFL.
that you are not about winning.
Because winning is, go get the football.
Right?
Especially, that's what you do best.
That's why you're out in the football field.
Whether you think a guy should be out there,
shouldn't be out there, he's had a history of injury, whatever.
That said to everybody, he's not about winning.
And I think not showing up at OTA shows he's not about winning.
But if it's going to work, Cleveland is a place it can work.
And let's also not forget.
He is remarkably talented.
Wide receivers haven't been proven to win your Super Bowls
or even get you there.
But Cleveland, forget about winning Super Bowls.
They haven't been relevant in years.
They won one game in two years combined.
And now they have a roster where people are going like, you know what?
They got some dudes there if they can keep it all together.
Last year they went 7, 8, and 1.
They were 1, 6 and 1.
I guess what I'm saying, I was given Jay Glazer crap yesterday.
He said, I put Baker in this group of the elite guys above Russell Wilson.
He was 1 in 5 against winning teams.
Yeah, they weren't good against winning teams.
No, I mean, Baker struggled.
By the way, he's a rookie.
He should struggle.
Sam Darnold struggled.
They all struggle.
And they played, remember, they played the last play schedule.
And they played, you know, in their division was the Cincinnati Bengals who were on pace to be the worst defense in the history of the sport.
Right.
So that helps you when you have two games there, right?
Yeah.
So, look, I'm, you know.
Look at that schedule.
Doug.
Put the schedule back.
I'll tell you, you think I'm crazy on this.
The end of the year, they could face a lot of teams that are not even fighting for a playoff.
Look at Cleveland's first nine games.
Holy moly.
That's a lot of defenses and a lot of roadies.
That's a lot of road games at the Jets, at Baltimore, West Coast.
Look, again, we're in June now.
In June, on the big, on the, on the, it looks like one thing, I don't want to be NFL
schedule guy.
I cannot, I cannot wait.
I love being an NFL schedule guy.
It's my brand.

It's constantly fluid.
Yes.
So I'll give you an example, folks.

So when I was at the old place, I got 1.2 million podcast listens a month.
But podcasts were on fire.
So I knew I wasn't going to disappear.
I get 8.5 million a month.
So my podcast audience is seven times bigger at Fox.
Digital.
I had 27,000, 30,000 people listening a day at the old place.
but I knew digital was exploding.
I now have 160,000 minimum a day.
It's six times bigger.
Facebook.
I knew this company would allow me to use Facebook and monetize it.
The old place didn't.
I got 331 million views last year on Facebook.
Nothing close in the industry.
So it wasn't about just coming over here and busting butt and working with people like Joy.
The world was changing around me and it was just not, you're going to be on AM radio signals.
I knew as I came over the emergence of podcasting, the power of Facebook, the emergence of digital would ensure that if I just did a quality show that was at least as good as the other one, and I think this one's better, studios are better, guests are better, people around me are better, that it would grow.
So my decision was not just based on me.
It was based on the world was changing, and I wanted to, and I've always believed this in business.
The world gives you waves.
write them.
Make it easy on yourself.
When you see a wave coming, grab the surfboard, get on the wave.
I live in California here by the beach.
I like to go to the pier, get a cup of coffee, and watch surfers.
I enjoy that.
It's therapeutic for me.
Even the best surfer can't do it without a wave.
And the waves were rolling when I came over here to Fox, the podcast wave, the digital wave, the Facebook wave, the YouTube channel.
They were all exploding.
And I thought, well, I'll just do the same show.
I'm not going to disappear.
Nobody's going to disappear in this business.
So the point being is, let me talk about an NFL player.
So Adam Humphreys was a nice slot receiver,
and he chose the Tennessee Titans and Marcus Mariotta over Tom Brady.
And he came out and he said the reason I did it is I just didn't know how long Tom Brady would play.
Well, first of all, Tom Brady's future is better than Marcus Marioas.
Because I don't think Marcus Mariotta is going to get into our contract in Tennessee.
He's not very good.
He's thrown for over 20 touchdowns once in a passing one.
League. He's always hurt.
Missed nine games in four years.
At least double that been banged up. He's a nonverbal
guy at a verbal position. I don't think Marcus
Marioo is very good. So Adam
Humphrey's nice kid, good player,
chose mediocrity, Tennessee
over excellence. Bill Belichick,
Tom Brady, the ownership,
the culture, the Super Bowls,
the momentum. He just chose
it. But what he really didn't think about
much like
my career was the world's changing.
41-year-old quarterbacks are now 36-year-old quarterbacks.
Russell Wilson said yesterday, I'm going to play until 45.
Drew Breeze is 41.
Drew Breeze, if you noticed the last couple years, he's playing at the end of the year.
So's old Philip Rivers.
So's old Tom Brady.
Have you noticed who's around at the end of the year?
Old quarterbacks.
The world's changing with all the nutrition.
Have you ever noticed when you meet somebody's kids, the kids are bigger than the dad?
Why?
Because they ate better.
my son has lived with better nutrition than I have.
And I had parents that, you know, we had a nice life.
We ate seafood.
It was fine, right?
But my son's eaten far more quality food.
He's got nutrition that I didn't have an understanding of.
And so basically Adam Humphreys, good player, nice player, chose Marcus Marriota and the Titans
over Tom Brady because his quote was, you know, obviously he's the goat, but there's so many
things to factor in, how many years does he have left?
I don't know. You watched Brady win the Super Bowl last year.
Was he better than Jared Goff in the Super Bowl?
I mean, he's been in three straight Super Bowls.
Isn't he the best quarterback every time you watch the Super Bowl?
And you're going to choose Marcus Marietta, who's always hurt?
Who in the last two years has 24 touchdowns, 23 picks?
I mean, come on.
It's funny.
There are so few guarantees in professional football.
Like in the NBA, we knew the Warriors would be good.
I mean, you knew Philadelphia, Boston.
You can tell the playoff teams, Toronto, Milwaukee was getting better.
You can tell.
You knew Houston was going to be a playoff team.
You know, Paul, George, and Russell Restbook are going to make the playoffs.
In the NFL, Adam Humphreys had a chance to be part of a guarantee.
And he chose Marcus Marriota and the Titans.
In fact, to prove my point, these, I'm going to give you what I believe to be absolute guarantees in the NFL.
And here's how few there are.
do number one. Patriots
win the NFC. East.
I think that's a guarantee. They're going
against Sam Darnold's second year,
Josh Rosen's second year,
Josh Allen's second year.
He's going up against babies.
I don't even think I'm being a Patriot Homer.
I think they're going to win the division. If you look at their
schedule, if you look at the hard, the better teams they play,
a lot of them at Foxborough, he's going up against
baby quarterbacks and all new systems and all new
coordinators. That's number one. Number two, the Redskins will not be great.
Okay. The quarterback situation, they're going to play a kid who potentially could be good
Duane Haskins, not quite ready. The coaching staffs on their last legs, they don't really
have in the NFC, in their division, they don't line up personnel-wise with Philadelphia
or the Dallas Cowboys. Washington will not be great. Number three,
The Saints, they'll be good at home.
You know, because they always are.
I don't know if the Saints will be great.
I don't know if they'll make the playoffs.
But they'll be a better home team than they will be a road team.
And how do I know that?
Because they're always special at home.
Number four, Patrick Mahomes will throw up for a lot of touchdowns.
Between Andy Reed's play design, Travis Kelsey, good offensive line.
Patrick Mahomes is special.
They've got good personnel.
They drafted another very good wide receiver out of college.
Andy Reid knows offense.
Andy Reid's made every quarterback in his career.
I mean, Donovan McNabb thinks he's a Hall of Famer.
You put Donovan McNabb with 90% of the coaches in the NFL.
Donovan McNabb doesn't think that.
So number four, guarantee Patrick Mahomes will pass for a lot of touchdown.
Number five, Andrew Luck will blame himself anytime the Colts lose.
That is a guarantee.
He's so humble.
annoying. He's to the point I'm tired of him blaming himself for every loss. But he will do that,
and it's a guarantee. Number six, the Browns don't be noisy. I don't know if they'll be bad.
I don't know if they'll be good. I think that'd be pretty good, but they'll be noisy. Baker,
his brand, Instagram, Twitter fights, controversy. Odell Beckham has gotten rich and famous on
making noise. Not on touchdowns and wins.
he hasn't. He's a global superstar because of the noise, the hair, the fun, the volume.
The Browns will be noisy. And my seventh guarantee, the Raiders will also be noisy.
I mean, this is, I consider this for number one. But since I had two noisy teams, I put the Raiders down the list.
Listen, Gruden is a television personality as a coach. Their GM's a former TV personality.
Antonio Brown, again, like OBJ, kind of an NBA player in the NFL.
they're moving lame duck
and they also have kind of a dysfunctional
outlaw rebel brand
which even in bad seasons makes news
and by the way that's seven NFL guarantees
I don't have an eighth
I do not have an eighth
and Adam Humphreys, good kid
chose Tennessee over that
when you make a career move
don't just consider yourself
is the world changing
because if there's a wave,
and I watch these on Saturday mornings with a cup of coffee,
grab your board and write it.
The wave of New England is not done yet.
The wave for Tennessee doesn't even exist yet.
LeVar Ball is around the corner.
A no-nonsense interview, I will press him.
He will fire back.
We'll talk basketball.
He was very accurate on many of his claims,
on many of his assertions,
on many of his most pointed opinions, he was right on most of them.
We'll talk to him next.

Absolutely.

I want you to just really be a good person.

All right, we have a breaking story.
David Griffin,
who essentially is the big honcho
running the Pelican, smart guy.
And the Pelicans have begun listening to teams
on potential Anthony Davis trades.
What does that mean?
That Anthony Davis and his agent,
remember I said last week, why are they continuing dialogue?
Just tell the Pelicans, nothing has changed.
Well, Anthony Davis and his agent, Rich Paul,
have made it clear we're not staying here.
So this is big news now.
So Anthony Davis, according to Sham Sharanya,
who's been on this show before,
they are now in the process of listening to teams.
is reporting that four teams
that will be able to compile the best packages,
Knicks, Celtics, Lakers,
Nets, that's per rival
executives. Now, the Lakers have better
players than the NICs
do. The NICs have better draft
picks than the Lakers do, including
the number three pick, which is very attractive
because that could be R.J. Barrett.
So that's the story. Anthony
Davis and Rich Paul have clearly
now told the Pelicans, appreciate
the dialogue, we want
out. So Zion
Williamson, who I think is going to be terrific, is now going to probably have a very young
group of players around him.
And that's where we stand.
And with that, I want to bring in LeVar Ball, founder, CEO, the big baller brand.
Of course, Dad of Lonzo, Lamello and LeAngelo Ball is joining us.
That's interesting news, LeVar, for you.
How are you, first of all?
I'm doing good.
I'm about yourself.
I'm doing great.
I always appreciate it, even though sometimes we push back at you.
You always come on and answer every question.
Oh, yes.
Every single time with us.
Now, so I thought it's very interesting.
There is speculation in order for the Lakers to get Anthony Davis.
They don't have the draft picks of the NICs.
They don't have, I would say the Celtics have more veteran players, whereas the Lakers have some very talented young players.
They have two forwards who both averaged 18, Brandon Kyle.
They have your son, who most execs still like in this league.
A lot of those, he's had the lower the bruise to his ankle, a deep bruise.
he will be ready for camp.
Are you concerned at all when you hear this story
that potentially Lanzo could be part of a trade package?
Well, that's part of L.A.
He's one of the biggest things in L.A.,
so you've got to make him part of the trade process
on the fact that people are going to listen to that.
Lanzo ain't going nowhere.
Let me just tell this out.
Yeah.
If I told you, Lanzo for the next nine years plays with Zion Williamson,
is that worse than the current situation with the Lakers?
I'm not going to say no situation is worse
because like I said, Lonzo adapts to everything.
He was ever his teammate, he's going to make him good.
So I'm not going to be like, oh, that wouldn't work with him in Zion.
Lonzo works with everybody.
You just got to give him a chance to let him do his thing.
Lonzo was the only Laker player that LeBron put on one of his shows,
one of his productions, the shop.
I took that as a sign that LeBron was telling people,
This is the one teammate I connect with.
I like this kid.
What did you make of him putting Lonzo on the shop?
Well, you got to put him on the shop.
You put anybody else on there, they're not going to watch that.
They're going to watch the shop just because Lonzo is who he is.
He's the only guy in the NBA with his own brand.
No, that's not true.
Oh, yeah, it's true.
LeBron doesn't have his own brand.
LeBron don't have his own brand.
What brand is LeBron?
Nike is not his brand?
LeBron is his.
That's Nike.
That's Nike.
That's Nike.
It's not his own brand.
Lonzo has his own brand.
Triple Bees is his.
That's what I mean by own brand.
That triple B has gone through some well-publicized difficulty.
So right now that-
That don't mean nothing.
I mean difficulties as in what?
As in you, somebody that you perceived as a friend.
Okay.
Stole some money, so what?
That happens in every business.
Same thing as Steve Jobs.
They took more money than that in his business.
Well, but Apple, I think was...
Apple, I'm just saying it happens on a large scale on any business.
This is something that always happens.
It's not a big business.
deal. Okay, you came on, I think it was undisputed, we have a tape.
Many of your claims, which people say, Colin, LeVar is just a blowing smoke. And I always say
with you, A, you've done a good job with your kids. I mean, they all got offers to UCLA.
And B, you're often very accurate. You remind me of Jose Konseko, who nobody wanted to listen to.
And years later, we went, oh, Jose was writing all the steroid stuff. So you said this on undisputed.
I want to play this. Magic, I think, is, from my point of view now, listen to him, talking
and stuff like that. He's just the face.
I don't think his say-so is like his say-so.
Really? I know it's not, because he told me some things that I thought that should have been done.
That's nothing.
Okay. Who is in charge?
No, I'm trying to figure out who's in charge.
That's why the system is crumbling down for, I don't know what's going on over there.
Okay, that's, by the way, when you said that, you got a little pushback.
That's probably the most accurate prediction of what has happened.
It has crumbled down.
A, were you shocked that Magic quit?
No.
I'm not shocked at what anybody does.
Like I said, like I told other people,
the only thing I'm shocked about is if my wife leaves me.
That's the only thing that can shock me in this world.
Other than that, I'm not shocked by anything.
Did you understand why Magic left?
I don't even understand why he left.
Like I said, you can tell people when the earthquake is going to come,
when the weather's going to change,
but you don't know what's going on in somebody's mind.
They could flip on you in a minute.
You'd be like, wow, I never thought that would happen.
So I never put it past anybody's mindset to do anything that's different.
Who today is running the Lakers, LeVar?
Who today is right now, nobody's really running in the Lakers.
They have no clue what's going on.
Because when you've got a lot of people in the building, everybody has a voice,
there's no certainty in it where somebody has the bottom line.
Because let's say Jeannie Buss is at the top.
She makes the final decision.
Yes.
But how's she going to make the final decision if she's sitting next to her best friend
that's been friends with her for they're not thinking business-wise.
Linda Rambos.
Yes.
So basically you're going to listen to her just because she's your friend.
And it might not be the right decision.
That's why they say usually the bad guy in the room is usually a bad guy.
Ain't no bad woman.
It's a bad guy because he don't have no feelings.
That's how this business is supposed to be ran.
You can't do it on feelings.
Doesn't Lonzo there, so you're acknowledging uncertainty with the Lakers.
Why would Lonson want to be part of that?
Lawson would be part of.
Like I said, the only thing that I saw
that was Crutching Lonzo was Luke Walton.
You know, even Magic had the right thing to say to say,
My boy is the face of the Lakers.
Well, no, LeBron's the face.
Listen, what I'm telling you.
Magic had said that before LeBron even got there.
Yeah, before LeBron got there.
You could say LeBron's the face,
but LeBron is getting old.
That face is gone.
Believe it or not, he's on his way out.
So the best thing to do,
is hook up with this youngster that can play this game and has the same IQ.
Lawson is a talent and a player that LeBron has never had as a teammate,
which is a guy who's invested in winning and don't have all these other things on the outside looking in.
What I mean by that, the fancy cars, the women, the nightlife.
Lawzell's just about winning, quiet, rapping, running, and doing this thing playing basketball.
You can see that Lonzo's not faking by like, oh, he doesn't really like basketball.
He's just in it for the money.
Okay. So if the Lakers do not land Anthony Davis because they don't have enough assets, they get outbid.
Jimmy Butler appears he's going to be offered a max deal by the Sixers, hard for a player to not take 40 million guaranteed.
Right. I don't think Clay's coming here. I don't think KD's coming here. I don't think Kauai's coming here. I don't think Kyrie's coming. I think the Lakers planted that to remain relevant.
If they don't land anybody, LeVar, and it's just the same guys. There's a story.
today that LeBron may say, I'm out of here.
Do you believe that?
LeBron's not going nowhere.
How do you know that?
I know that because it's L.A.
They love the way this weather is.
They love the next step in his life.
Space, jam, movies, all this plays into effect when you come to L.A.
You can't go anywhere else.
It's not about him playing for the money now.
It's about him, even his son.
They like California.
The buzz they're getting around here now is he loves this.
So he's not going nowhere.
Who do you think they land?
They don't have to land anybody.
Well, they're not going to win a championship.
Well, here's the thing.
You can win a championship with this team,
but you have to start off by making all these youngsters
that you try to throw under the table believe that you can win with this group.
They got the skills to win.
Could I make the argument last year that, and I did credit it.
I love LeBron.
But I said last year, I didn't think he had a great leadership year.
I didn't think he put his arms around young players.
And young players need love.
You come into this league.
You're 19.
You get a lot thrown at you.
You need a little love.
But here's the thing, too.
This is what LeBron was supposed to play a lot of minutes and be winning.
Luke didn't play him the right way.
It was on this savior thing.
Talking about, oh, I want to save him for the playoffs.
Why are you trying to save somebody if you're not there yet?
How about we play leaving me in for three straight quarters?
Him and Lonzo.
Let them just win and do what they do.
And then take them out the last quarters if they're winning by a lot.
By the way, it should be noted.
LeBron and Lonzo, the plus minus of the Lakers,
was at its very highest when LeBron and Lonzo did play.
Yes, and that's why I was thinking,
why would you get LeBron and don't play him with Lonzo the whole game
until you win?
I'm paying the guy all this money.
He's playing the whole game.
If Lonzo is the player that you believe he is.
Yes.
Why would I not demand Lonzo Ball if you want Anthony Davis?
You don't have to put that out there in demand.
it on the fact that some people may get a little bit in their feelings.
Like he only likes him. He favors him. And that's when you start
kind of putting different, different mixes in
your group. If I'm David Griffin,
and you give me a number four picker, Lonzo, I'm choosing Lonzo.
Right. What if the Lakers have no choice? But to land Anthony Davis, you have to
give Lonzo up. He's simply the best arguable asset.
But you've got to look at that and say, even if you get the best
player. Who's going to lead you? LeBron ain't going to play point.
Who's going to be willing to give that ball up? It's just like people was telling me the other
day. They said, well, you know, Alonzo is not going to be the primary ball handler. I said, well,
you've got to look at my son differently on the fact that he don't handle the ball. He
get rid of it. So quick, get down the court. Give him the ball. Let him take his strides.
He either make a layup or kick that ball ahead where you can make an easy layup or easy jump shot.
What do you make of Frank Vogel as the new coach of your son in the Lakers?
Frank Vogel, I like what he says, but everybody could be good on the first date.
Like they say everything you want to hear.
Oh, I love you. You're so good. You're my soulmate.
Same thing. I like what Frank is saying right now.
It's like I like Lonzo.
He's putting a point out there where he's not saying most people talk about their veteran guards.
Like, oh, I got to, well, at least I have Rondo to kind of mentor Lonzo.
And he didn't say nothing like that. He was just like, hey, I like Lonso.
I'm letting you guys know right now.
So there ain't no friction.
Be like, well, get him out of here.
because what the media wants to do is say, why you want to deal with Lonzo and you got to deal with his daddy?
By the way, you were quieter this year.
No.
Did Magic tell you not to talk?
Can't nobody tell. Jesus can't tell me not to talk.
Oh, well, I think he could.
No, he can't.
I'm still talking.
And when I get up there, I'm going to holl at him again.
I think he's got him.
So I'm just trying to tell you, ain't nobody tell me.
If I'm a businessman, I have to do business.
I've got two other sons I got to deal with.
Lonzo was in the NBA.
My goal is to get all three of my boys in the NBA.
So I still got work to do, but I'm knocking on the door.
I'm right there.
Do you have any relationship with LeBron?
I don't have a relationship with LeBron.
See, here's the thing.
Somebody asked me a question back in the day.
And they said, do you think LeBron's son is going to be good?
And I was like, well, most superstar sons are not good.
That's true.
And then people turn that around like, oh, he's talking about your family, LeVar.
So no, you got to ask me a question I gave you an opinion.
So now LeBron comes at me defensively saying, keep my family out of your mouth.
And I'm like, wait a minute.
Can't nobody tell me what to say?
so then I get defensive towards him.
But I have nothing against LeBron.
He's been my son's favorite player.
I like the guy on the fact that he big and strong, young,
and played the game the right way doing everything.
He does.
Yeah, so I never had no beef against him.
And the media tries to make it sound like I told him,
my son's going to be the first ones that billionaires playing ball.
And he was like, oh, LeBron, he's talking about he's going to beat you to making billions.
I hope we have a race to see which one of us as black men make it to billion dollars.
All right.
Season 4 of Bald and the Family, available now on Facebook Watch.
You always answer the questions.
You have been remarkably accurate with some of your predictions.
You said Luke wouldn't last.
You said magic wasn't really running it.
I think your opinion now on what's happening.
I don't think they've synthesized magic.
I agree.
The organization, I think there's issues.
I'm interested on this Pelican story, though, LeVar, about they are now shopping Anthony Davis.
So I wish you and your family the best.
You're always welcome here.
Thank you.
You know, you were behaved very well today.
Joy, do you have anything you'd like to press him on?
I behave all the time.
It's good to see you.
It's good to see you.
Definitely good to see you guys.
I'll see you once in the blue moon.
Season 4, Ball and the Family, available now on Facebook.
Watch.
Thank you for coming by the show.
All right. Thanks a lot.
Appreciate it.
Thank you.
Joy, good news.
Turn on the news.
This is the herd line news.
All right, let's get a little inside baseball, in this case, inside basketball.
No ratings or get a little tricky.
But we have been talking about the ratings when it comes to the NBA finals and how it's been a little difficult to tell who's watching in Canada because we don't get the Canadian rating.
That's right.
Well, the NBA has said that through the first two games, 35% of the Canadian population has watched all are part of the finals.
Now, Canada's population is about 37.6 million.
Yeah.
So I don't want to get too crazy into the math here, but that's about 13.16 million people.
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
So that's the Canadian rating, which you would then, in theory, add to the U.S.
rate.
If you did add the Canadian rating to the American rating, it would be around 26.67 million.
And what would, so the rating would be what it usually is.
Basically, yes.
Yeah, this is what you and I have been saying.
Listen, I'm a big believer in this.
You either like the NBA or don't.
And if you don't like the NBA, you're going to look at their ratings to go, oh, it's in the tank.
They're getting four times the Stanley Cup.
ratings. It's fine.
The league is fine. They're making, by the way,
they were up, I think, I could be wrong
on this. Their global sales
last year, were like up
20%. That's the bigger part
of this 35% of the Canadian
population watching the finals.
Is that we,
you know, tend to focus on just
us. America. And there is a whole
world out there and particularly
Canada and especially
Toronto is a very
international city. Yes.
a lot of immigration in the country of Canada.
So this is a huge international audience and it's growing the game.
By the way, if you go to Singapore, if you go to Pakistan, if you go to Amsterdam,
you will see more NBA jerseys than NFL jerseys.
Of course.
It's a global game.
We can't get caught up on what a domestic rating is.
The league is printing money right now.
No.
And they are making an effort to expand the game.
with leagues in other countries.
So they want it to be a global thing.
There's a league.
Isn't our former president, Barack Obama, involved in one of the?
Yeah, they're putting a league in Africa and I believe several countries in Africa.
And they've made some other leagues as well.
I don't have the countries in front of it.
Yes, they're growing the game globally.
They want to redo the way the G League is structured so that there's options so kids don't have to go to New Zealand.
The best way, somebody said this to me once, the kid in Beijing who,
buys a Milwaukee Bucks jersey because he loves Janice.
Is every bit as valuable as a Pacer fan sitting in the 12th row at that arena?
When you're a global brand, it's not just about a domestic rating and a domestic season ticket holder.
If the kid over in Beijing is buying shoes every other year or a Raptors jersey,
that's as valuable as a kid in Portland.
They're putting teams in Angola, Egypt, Kenya, Morocco, Nigeria, Rwanda, Senegal, South Africa.
Cool.
By the way, you know who I'd be freaking out, Joy?
If I was an NHL owner in Canada?
Yes, that's what the bad news is.
Would 35% of Canadian viewers be watching Vancouver in a playoff series?
I mean, that's what I'd be freaking.
If I'm an NHL owner in Canada, and I'm saying it,
the NBA is getting bigger in our country than hockey.
And also, this is another selling point, honestly, for Kauai to stay in Toronto.
Like, the Raptors should be all over this.
So this is pretty big news.
Todd Gurley's role may be decreasing moving forward because of looming concerns about his left knee.
So according to NFL Network's Ian Rappaport,
the days of Gurley being the straight up, every down bell cow are probably over,
just based on his knee, his age, the position, the amount of carries he's had.
It's probably not going to be like that, which, by the way,
is maybe why the Rams drafted are running back in the third rounds,
someone they really like a lot.
This is a team that's clearly ready to spread the ball around.
Well, by the way, when they gave him a contract, Joy, it was a year before they had to.
And I had an NFL exec who I have great respect for.
Say, why did they pay them a year early?
You don't do that with running backs.
You do it with quarterbacks.
You can do it with a tight end, a left tackle.
But a running back, they don't last forever in this league.
You don't pay running backs in this league until you have to pay running backs in this league.
And now that's going to be a lot of money that's not going to be on the field.
Yeah, this is kind of devastating news.
for the Rams.
I mean, clearly they have a plan,
so they saw this coming,
being that they did draft a running back
in the third round,
but with all that money tied up
in Todd Gurley,
look, I feel like you have to,
you have to pay talent.
Like, that's,
you're not going to win in any league
without talent.
And sometimes you just have to pay guys.
And as of recent,
running backs have been
an incredibly crucial part
of this success.
Todd Gurley not being available
crushed the Rams in the Super Bowl.
I mean, to me,
it was the biggest,
factor. So they are incredibly valuable and their value has increased, whereas for a while we were
thinking, you know, maybe you do always do a running back by committee or maybe you shouldn't
pay the running backs that much. I just think in this particular situation, they don't feel like
he can be in every run back. And that's fine also. Sometimes you do need to spread it around.
I agree with you. You have to pay talent. But I do believe there are certain positions in life.
Don't pay it. Do you have to? And like in baseball, it's a non-salary cap. If you want a guy,
go get a guy. Yeah. I think, now you get away with it now.
because Jared Gough isn't making big money,
so it doesn't crush you like it would.
Well, that allowed the Rams to put together the team
as they did because of Jared Gough.
And if you can give him, let's say it gets 10 carries,
not 16, and you like this third round back,
it could all work out.
By the way, C.J. Anderson helped get him to the Super Bowl, too.
Right.
If you're only getting 12 carries, not 17, 19,
we're not saying he's not playing.
We're just not going to make him a 23-carry-game guy.
It may actually turn out to be a better situation
because you don't feel like you have to run him like that
because you're paying him that much.
A lot of times when these guys have these big contracts,
you get the feeling like, okay, he's got to be in every downback
because look at what he's making.
But in reality, it's better for the team if he's not.
If he does get maybe just the third down carries or whatever it is,
the structure might actually be more beneficial.
And finally, great news out of the Big Ten conference today,
Kevin Warren, the C.O. of the Vikings was introduced as the league's sixth commissioner today.
Wow.
So he left the CEO of Minnesota Vikings.
Of the Vikings.
He was promoted to the COO of the Vikings in 2015.
He became the first African-American CEO in NFL history
and the highest-ranking African-American executive working on the business side of any NFL organization.
And now he's set to become the first African-American commissioner of a Power 5 collegiate conference.
Wow.
So a big hire by the Big Ten Congress.
Well, you know what?
Congratulations to the Big Ten, first of all, because you got a great candidate.
But secondly, you know, it's funny.
College football is now paying coaches and administrators a lot of times as much or more than NFL.
And in college, you know, you generally have, if you're a commissioner of a sport, that's a 15-year job for life.
NFL, GM, CEOs, depends on if the owner's in a good mood.
Depends on if your quarterback can win games.
Right.
No, it's, yeah.
I mean, well, in this situation, you're not responsible for one specific team and you're not beholden to, you know, one billionaire.
in that situation.
By the way, the guy he took over for Delaney was a legend.
Right.
Deal maker.
Total deal maker.
So good for him, good for the Big Ten.
That's great.
Joy with the news.
Well, that's the news.
And thanks for stopping by.

We have breaking news.
The Pelicans, David Griffin, is now taking calls and offers on Anthony Davis trade packages.
Let's go to the phone right now and bring in Chris Haynes.
You know him here at FS1.
You see him a lot.
Senior NBA Insider for Yahoo Sports.
Cleveland playing dealer, cover the Warriors.
So Chris, thanks for joining us.
So the story comes down.
David Griffin is now fielding offers.
That leads me to believe that Rich Paul and Anthony.
Davis told David Griffin, thank you, but no, thank you. Zion's going to be awesome, but we
want out. What did you make of this story? No, I mean, this was just the next step. This is
just the next step. David Griffin, you know, informed after there was agent, Rich Paul,
that, you know, they're just going to, you know, move and try to see what's out there.
And, you know, this was all, you know, you understand, Rich Paul or David Griffin's relationship
dating back, you know, when they were both in Cleveland. They have a good, a good, a good,
good, firm relationship.
So, you know, there wasn't anything hostile with talks.
David Griffin understood Anthony Davis' position, but he definitely wanted to let him know,
like, hey, things are going in a different direction with the organization, got a new training
staff, you know, restructure the front office.
You know, this is going to be a good building block that we have in the number one pick.
But, you know, Anthony Davis let them know, like, you know, that his stance hasn't changed,
the position hasn't changed.
You know, they're just going to try to go there and part their separate ways.
I think it's good for both fathers.
Okay, now this is good news for LeBron, obviously, in the Lakers,
but there have been reports that have surfaced that Gail Benson would prefer not to trade
into the Lakers, who she's no big fan of, and she'd prefer not to trade into the West.
If I told you of the four or five teams that have come out, where do you suspect who will have
the strongest opportunity to land Anthony Day?
You know, it's tough.
You know, I would have said, hmm, months ago probably that Boston, you know, with their control of assets.
But, you know, it's looking likely day by day that Kyrie's not going to be a part of that.
And that was one of the reason I actually reported, I believe back in February,
or sometime that Anthony Davis didn't have Boston on a list because, you know, he was concerned with, you know,
Kyree's long-term future there in Boston, and that's looking like it's going to play out.
Look, it's going to be tough.
It's wide open right now.
You know, I don't know necessarily that the O'Publicans' owner and David Griffin would just be adamant, not trading him to the West.
I think at this point, this is not the mess that David Griffin made.
You know, he didn't create all this.
And so with him, I think he needs to do what's best for the organization.
I think he will do that.
wherever he can bring home the best asset to keep this franchise moving forward for a long period of time,
I think that's what he's going to do.
And if that's the Lakers, you know, I think obviously there will be some hesitancy,
but if the Lakers package is just so much more, better than what anybody else out there has,
then I think they have to look into making that deal.
Now, the NICs have better picks than the Lakers.
The Lakers have better players than the NICs.
listen, you know that at least Kuzma or Brandon Ingram, they would take one of those forwards.
They both averaged 18.
They'd want the number four pick.
They'd want one of those forwards.
In your opinion, would they want Lonzo Ball?
Yes, I think they will want him.
And I don't, you know, I don't know necessarily that they want him just for a be their
cornerstone player.
But, you know, he's a former number two pick.
you know, they're still upside with him.
So you have to have, you have to bring him on just for,
just for the clear standpoint of just having another charitable asset.
So with that being said, yes, I think it was, you know,
they probably have to include Lanzo as well.
And at this point for the Lakers, I think, you know,
there are rumblings early on in the initial stage
when New Orleans and Lakers were going through their negotiations
that Lakers weren't putting forth their best offer.
Like, there are no, I don't know if that's true.
not, but as going into this summer, this
off season, they're in no position to be
flirting with and playing and tinkering.
You've got to go all in. And if that
means putting in the whole
young court to get AD, I think you
have to do that. No, I
just had Lovar ball in the show. If
I'm David Griffin, I want the four-pick,
I want one of those forwards, and I want Lanzo
wall. Because if I got Zion
running down the floor, I know that Lanzo
ball makes wings better.
So I think you have to,
I don't think they're making that move with the Lakers, unless
Lonzo is part of that package. Now, do you believe
you can't make a deal until the season's over? Do you think this deal with Anthony
Davis would happen sooner than later? Like, when would you suspect the timeline would be here?
I wouldn't be surprised if it happens before the draft or on draft day.
But I don't expect, I would be highly surprised if this extended out
late into the offseason. So my range, I'm thinking for a move like this.
You know, New Orleans wants to move on. David Griffin wants to move on.
You know, this is his time now.
This is this tenured.
So, you know, I think he's going to look out there.
Look, these offers are going to come in quick and aggressive.
This is Anthony Davis.
You know, this is the time to do it before the draft.
So I wouldn't be surprised if it happened around draft time,
but I wouldn't expect this to extend deep into the offseason at all.
By the way, you're covering the finals.
Clay Thompson, the MRI confirmed he has a hamstring strain.
Chris, that tells me, even if he comes back,
he'll never be fully healthy for the series.
Isn't that your takeaway?
Yeah, I don't think you can.
You know, I saw him after the game,
and he actually told me that he can't see himself missing
tomorrow night's game.
And when he was, after the game in the locker room,
you know, he was stretching that hamstring out
and just yelling at times, you know, with the pain,
with certain movements of his leg.
And so that's when you knew it was quite, you know,
pretty, pretty, I wouldn't say that serious,
but it was a need of concern.
But he felt like he's going to be able to give me to go
the Warriors are calling them questionable right now, so we'll see.
But I'll tell you right now, with KD and Clay Thompson,
if they're not available for game three, man,
that puts the Warriors in a dire state that they've never been in during the championship run.
No question.
Chris Haynes, great stuff, NBA insider Yahoo Sports.
Thanks, Chris.
Colin, Colin, hold on.
I want to mention the media game, the media game that we put together.
That's going to be live streamed on T-Mobile's on,
their Twitter account, Metro at T-Mobile.
I got the media gang comprised of 40 media members playing tonight.
It's a tournament style.
You can watch everything.
It's going to be live, commentating.
Get to see some of your fans, get to see some of their favorite media members going at it,
and players get to see some of the media members that they hate, kind of stinking it up.
So it's going to be a good event tonight.
I encourage people to check that out.
All right, Chris, thanks, buddy.
Thanks, Colin.

We're on Fox Sports Radio.
We're on IHeart Radio.
Right here in FS1.
Joy Taylor is joining me.
So we don't get breaking news, maybe once a week on our show, we get breaking news.
Got two things, the Todd Gurley news.
He will not be their bell cow back.
They drafted somebody in the third round.
He's going to split carries.
They paid him early, took a risk, not great.
A lot of money not in the field, if that's the case.
Ian Rappaport reporting that.
The other story is Anthony Davis is now on the trade block.
So now remember, Joy, a week ago, Anthony Davis had a break-up
breakfast with the Pelicans.
And I said on the air at the time, I said, it's perfect.
It wasn't even a lunch because the longer in the day you go, the harder it is to have a breakup.
Because the later in the day, people get more aggravated, more agitated.
You know, you can have a glass of wine with lunch.
You have a lot of wine with dinner.
But it's easy to break up in the morning.
That's why they call it break fast.
It's quick.
It's one meal.
It's pancakes.
It's easy to break out with somebody over syrup and waffles.
It's very difficult over a pork chop, a salad, a dessert, an entree, violins, wine, dark room.
You go to IHOP, boom.
You're out of a relationship in like nine minutes.
It's perfect.
So I said the day it happened, the Pelicans did him a huge break.
They took him to breakfast, not lunch.
And it's easy to break up at breakfast.
And he didn't.
And I'm like, what are you doing, Anthony Davis?
You're becoming what everybody says you are, soft, netherland,
nice, sweet, but not an alpha.
You've got to break up with people.
It's hard.
It stinks.
It's uncomfortable.
But in life, I've broken up with companies.
I've had women break out with me.
I've broken up with people.
I've called off friendships.
It stinks.
It's no good.
But as a guy, if you want to be a leader, you've got to have some alpha.
You've got to be comfortable with discomfort.
So a week ago, Anthony Davis has this meeting, this breakfast, break fast.
And instead of just going, I'm out.
The story came out.
well, they'll continue to have dialogue.
And I'm like, you've got to be kidding me.
Well, apparently over the last week, maybe they had another breakfast.
But Anthony Davis finally told them, I'm out.
Because this breaking story today, the Pelicans now are listening to trade offers.
All that tells you is a week from the last meeting, Rich Paul and Anthony told David Griffin,
all right, we had breakfast.
Listen, we love the coffee.
Crosants are wonderful.
We couldn't break up in the moment,
but we don't want to be part of the Zion thing.
We want to win.
And I think this comes down to something Kendrick Perkins told me.
It's real simple.
Anthony Davis doesn't want to rebuild again.
And I don't blame these players.
Don't blame Anthony Davis here if you live in New Orleans.
He gave you seven years.
You couldn't get him good enough teammates.
It's why LeBron left Cleveland the first time.
Okay.
There's a reason the NBA structure financially, players can make more staying with a team.
There's a reason the NBA did that.
They want players to stay.
That's why the NBA structure, it'll give guys an extra guaranteed year.
Paul George got an extra guaranteed year staying in Oklahoma City instead of going to the Lakers.
The league wants you to stay.
But the league also understands that there are bad owners and bad situations.
and bad GMs, and the Pelicans have been a mess for years.
Their NFL people, before David Griffin got hired, were running their NBA team.
And Anthony Davis sat there, good soldier, played his butt off, 25, 13 a night.
And then they get a new GM in, David Griffin, very competent, same owners and stuff.
And Anthony Davis is like, okay, we're going to get Zion.
But I don't want to give you another five years.
Look around the NBA right now.
What is Toronto?
Veterans.
Danny Green, Sergei Botka, Kauai Leonard, Kyle Lowry, Mark Gassal, old guys.
Fred Van Vleet's one of the only young guys.
What are the Warriors?
Draymon, Steph, Clay, Boogie.
You know, Kavon Luni is a young guy, Iggy.
Veterans win in this league.
Veterans have always won in this league.
Yes, Magic won as a young guy.
He had Kareem.
They had a veteran roster.
And so Anthony Davis is doing what LeBron did, what Kevin Durant did.
Hey, LeBron's like, Dan Gilbert and my GMs can't get me good players.
I'm going to Miami.
And Kevin Durant said, hey, you're putting your arms around Westbrook.
The first owner I had in Seattle sold the team and moved me to Oklahoma City.
And I gave you a bunch of years and I'm out.
And we always beat up on these players.
But Anthony Davis has now said,
I don't want to rebuild again.
I got four more peak years here.
I've had some injuries.
I don't want to rebuild again.
And so now teams, this is a good day for LeBron.
This is a good day for the Knicks and LeBron.
Now the Knicks have very good draft picks.
They have the number three pick in this draft.
If you're the Pelicans, do you say, okay, we're going to get Zion with the one.
He's a guaranteed 20-point game very early.
R.J. Barrett, Joy, and I agree, he's a score.
A lot of people think he's got hardened qualities.
I think he's somewhere between hardened and Rodney Hood.
But he's a 20-point of game score pretty quick in the NBA.
And you just say, I'm going to take these two Duke Southern kids, and we're going to roll with it.
I've got to be honest with you.
That'd be fun.
That'd be fun.
I'd like that.
I watched Duke play 20 times last year.
These two are going to be really good NBA players.
They're good kids.
Zion's got a magnetism that is very Magic Johnson, very Michael.
Zion is just different than any college player I have seen since I don't even.
know. Magic? I mean, seriously, he's that magnetic, dynamic, talented. So if you're a
Laker fan this morning, you're like, all right, all right, all right. But the Lakers have
better players than the Knicks. And I believe, actually, you could argue better assets
than everybody that will make a move on him except Anthony Davis. But I don't think Anthony Davis
wants to play in Boston. He never put it on his initial list. Chris Haynes just told him this
10 minutes ago. He never put it on the initial list. So to me, it's pretty clear. Anthony would be a Nick.
Anthony would be a Laker. I do think he would go to Brooklyn if, you know, he got in the phone and
Kyrie Irving said, and I believe this to be true, I think Kyrie Irving's going to Brooklyn.
And I do think Anthony Davis would go to Brooklyn and play with Kyrie Irving because you wouldn't be rebuilding.
Those two guys that get you into the playoffs, you know, somewhere between a, you know, a six seed and a three seed.
Kyrie Irving and Anthony Davis, that's a pretty good team.
So now there's another story today.
Bill Plashky of the LA Times, very well connected.
I came out and said, people are telling him if the Lakers do not land a legitimate big-time free agent or somebody through a trade by early in, you know, July, he's out of here or is going to demand a trade.
Now, Doug Gottlieb came on earlier and said he's not leaving.
Doug Gottlieb said this.
He doesn't think LeBron will ever leave.
He actually likes it here.
You kind of like it here too.
He has a child about to enter into high school.
And he's taking his son out of Brentwood and now he's going to move him to Sierra Canyon,
which is now the basketball factory of the Valley.
And Dwayne Wade's going to put his kid there.
Once your kid's in high school, you're not moving.
It's just not happening.
and Jeannie Bus would be a moron financially to trade him.
You know, LeBron's obviously the biggest star in town, period, in terms of athletes.
Here's where I think it's really interesting.
Just consider your David Griffin.
Now, your owner, regardless of what you read, would prefer, prefer he doesn't go to the Lakers.
they ripped your organization for about a month straight in January with a trade deadline mess.
I still contend that the Lakers can get him, but they'd have to overpay to get him.
They'd have to give up more than, say, the Knicks would.
I think Gail Benson's probably and David Griffin's here are saying, make the best deal.
Wink, wink, make the best deal.
You know, we've all been in relationships like that.
Honey, my anniversary, it doesn't mean much.
My birthday, don't worry about it.
Yeah, it does.
What the Lakers have to do here, they have to win this trade.
If it's a coin flip, they'll send him somewhere else.
And that begs the question, is Lanzo Ball no longer a Laker?
Because Zion is going to be a forward.
You don't need two more forwards.
You could use Kuzma or Brandon Ingram.
So that'll be part of it.
The number four pick will absolutely be part of it
and probably the Lakers' first round pick next year.
you start looking around.
I'd want Lonzo Ball.
I'd want Brandon Ingram or Kyle Kuzma.
I'd want the four pick in a number one next year.
I'd probably want Josh Hart off the bench.
So very, very interesting.
Anthony Davis, the story is out now.
Shams Sharanaa has broken the story
that Anthony Davis is on the trade block,
which meaning Rich Paul, who's also a bronze agent,
has told the Pelicans,
he's not going to rebuild again.
There you go.
Very interesting stuff.
Very exciting stuff.
What do you make of it, Joy?
I think the whole NBA world's going to look very different in a few weeks.
I know you think it's a possibility that everyone just stays put, but...
I think it's a pot.
Well, we know Anthony Davis isn't saying put, so that's good.
Yeah.
That's good.
So we know Anthony Davis, of all the guys, the one guy we know that's not staying put this morning.
Well, we don't know.
They're listening to talks.
maybe they don't get anything that they want.
I think it's down to the Knicks,
and I think it's down to the Lakers,
because I think they want him the most.
I don't buy Boston.
I don't think Anthony Davis wants to play there.
You know, first of all, Danny Aange, you know this.
He doesn't like to lose trades.
He's like he has to win every trade.
Well, if you give Jason Tatum up,
by the way, another Duke guy was Zion,
then Boston wins it.
But would Danny Aange give up Jason Tatum?
No.
I don't think so.
And that's the question about Boston, because Boston's in a good position for Anthony Davis to go there, even without Kyrie, but how much else are they going to have to give up?
The team's going to look differently.
If I don't know Anthony Davis is going to resign with me, there's no way I'm giving up Jason Tatum.
There's no way.
And also, the Knicks are not really not the best position for Anthony Davis either.
They don't have any players.
Right.
I think it's Lakers, Brooklyn, and I think Brooklyn looks, I've been told by somebody I, I have.
absolutely trust.
Kyrie is about a 75% or to Brooklyn.
He's made his mind up.
And I don't think Kevin Durant necessarily would go to Brooklyn.
I think Anthony Davis.
Listen, if you get Kyrie, you trade him DeAngelo Russell,
a bunch of picks.
But the Pelicans now, David Griffin,
listening to teams,
the ones they put down Knicks, Nets, Lakers, Celtics.
Celtics have the most assets,
but I don't think Anthony Davis would guarantee them he would stay.
And I don't think Danny Aange would rest.
run with that. I just don't think he would. I just look at, I watch a guy's resume. I look at Danny's
resume. That's not what he does. That's not what Danny Ains does. He wants certainty, not
finger crossing. Be sure to catch live editions of the herd weekdays at noon Eastern 9 a.m.
Pacific on Fox Sports Radio, FS1, and the IHeart Radio app. Anthony Davis is now in the trade
block. I'm reading this from The Athletic. The Athletic today, Shum Sharanya, who we've brought on
this show, 49 minutes.
minutes ago, Anthony Davis's preferred destinations, Lakers, Knicks, Clippers.
Now, I've been told the Clippers, he is not their number one free agent.
I think Quay is, and probably KD.
Yes, so that's what I've been.
It's not like the Clippers don't like him, but he's not their number one.
Lakers see him more as a number one.
You're Anthony Davis, which one, Lakers, Knicks, Clippers.
which one to you stands out that would be a better fit for you as a six-year veteran,
25-13 guy, a big.
You know the West, but the East is weaker.
Playing with LeBron would probably be great.
I think that would be a nice deal.
I think they'd need one more piece.
Playing with the Clippers would be fun.
That team plays hard.
Hard.
And now they have a go-to.
I mean, that's no knock on who they've had, Golanieri, and a sweet loo.
But they have a bona fide superstar now would be interesting.
the Knicks to be a part of
to be the player or a couple
players that go and change that franchise
that puts your stock up
and changes your life drastically.
So I think those are all great choices.
We'll have to see what happens though.
You know, I'll just throw this out.
The Lakers have gotten some really bad press
and there are doubters
if the clippers can land people
because of their history.
Would a team, an owner, a GM,
want to be super aggressive and get this deal done
so it sends the message.
Okay, we've got stars.
Because if the Lakers went out and made a deal for Anthony Davis,
and they had to give up Kyle Kuzma,
Lonzo Ball, Josh Harton Picks.
But it would be Anthony and LeBron,
and you would be saying all that negative stuff
you've heard about magic,
we have two stars,
then for all you free agents
who can make choices over the next 10 days.
Like I think to myself, the Lakers need to change the narrative, right?
Doesn't a trade change the narrative immediately?
I think it definitely sends the right message.
And even if that's, my whole thing with the Lakers situation is say they get AD and then that's it for this summer.
You have to be okay with that because I think, like you said, that's a great first step.
And then you have to let this fire burn out because it's a dumpster fire over there.
It is.
You know what I mean?
So if you're lucky enough to land one of these guys this summer, and it may not even be AD.
whether it be a Jimmy Butler or Bradley Beal.
If you're only able to get one,
you have to be cool with that this year
and understand that you're not only working towards something else,
but you're also rebuilding your image and your brand.
You know what the Lakers are?
There's no respect there for the Lakers anymore, which is crazy.
It's funny.
I like Anthony Davis.
Let me push back on Biggs.
I've never, I think in the current NBA,
I want wings and guards.
First of all, generally, Anthony Davis is a great free throw shooter.
Most I don't trust late in game.
I just don't.
Secondly, bigs get hurt early.
They get hurt often.
I don't think Anthony is your typical alpha.
I think he'll give you 2513,
but I think LeBron's more alpha.
And I think that would be an okay situation for both of them.
You know what I mean?
For LeBron to still be the shield,
but Anthony Davis is their go-to guy.
And it would save the bronze legs a lot.
But I really want to shout out, you know,
Griff over there in New Orleans.
Yeah, you know, I played for him in Phoenix
and just know him as a guy, great guy, great basketball mind,
but you have to get rid of Anthony Davis,
you know, especially if you're lucky enough,
if it's going to be Zion,
you don't want to,
you don't want to start his run with the cloud over the franchise.
Good point.
You know what I mean?
If guys want to be out as much as fans may not like it,
other people may like it,
that automatically is going to probably divide the locker room a little bit,
so you don't want that kind of energy around your locker room,
you know what I mean?
So I think for them to try to hold on to them
and all the crazy stuff they were doing was a terrible move.
You know what I mean? He's an amazing talent, but he doesn't want to be there anymore.
And you can say what you want about that. He just doesn't want to.
So you have to move him. And Griff has come in there and done that.
And now he's opening up, you know, opportunities and letting people know,
hey, whether it be the Lakers, whoever, we're going to listen to you know,
we're going to get the most we can get for him.
Do you know, David Griffin, do you think he'll go the give me picks and start over with Zion?
Or do you think he's like, you know, if you give me a veteran in a pick,
we could be a playoff team.
It's tough. It depends on what they're going for.
You know what I mean? Because I think that's a situation where you're going to have to draft very well.
You know what I mean? They drafted Chris Paul and tried to make a run with him. It didn't work.
AD, same situation. But you're not going to, that market is not going to, you know, attract, obviously, big time free agents.
So if you're able to get nice pieces in a trade and that's how you want to make your run or do they want to go like, okay, we just want draft picks and we want to try to really draft these next two to three years because we see some really talented kids coming out.
So the athletic reports that Lakers, Knicks, Clippers are his three teams he's interested in.
They also put in Brooklyn, which I think is going to land Kyrie Irving and the Celtics,
although I don't know if AD wants to play there.
Matt Barnes joining us.
Let's move to the finals tomorrow.
Golden State's favored by six, despite the fact they're beat up.
I don't worry about their offense, but do you worry about this?
Clay is their best defender.
There's no way off a hamstring injury.
He's the same defender.
Boogie's never been a great defender he's hurt
If KD comes back, he's not healthy
Iggy's their second best defender, he's not healthy
Here's my question
I don't worry about them hitting shots
That's just they Quinn Cook can hit shots
Steph can hit him Clay hurt could hit him
Catch and shoot
Defensively Golden State's going to be a marginal team
It's going to be interesting
And I think what's going to happen now
With all these other guys out is Kauai's going to guard Steph a lot
I think so
Or at least down the stretch
you know what I mean to try to
to me right now and not that it's going to come down
to one-on-one matchup because these guys may not even match up
but right now you got Stefan Kauai, they're superstars
and then you go down to Siakam and Draymond Green
and then you go down to Iggy and Kyle Lowry
and then you can even take it as far as going to the bench
and having can
Quinn Cook neutralize Van Pleat
he doesn't have to score as much but can you take his
effectiveness away can you keep him from getting that 16 to 18 points
to get in that team going. He has to take that defensive
challenge. But to me, the X factor
is going to be boogie.
You know, for him
to come out and have the game, too, he had to
kind of get his legs back under him, get a double double
with six assists, was able to protect the basket.
Can he consistently continue to do that?
Because he's going to be
need to call on more now that Loney
went down. You know, UCLA guy,
I feel terrible. He's played well throughout the playoffs.
And they really think he's one of their future pieces.
They like him a lot. He played very well throughout the playoffs.
Always did what he was supposed to do, always in the right place.
you know, and then Bogot.
You know, Bogot is one of those guys who's a proven veteran
that you can sit out, you know, 35 minutes of the game
and put him in and he'll still be effective and do what he has to do.
So to me, the reason why I pick Golden State is because
although Toronto maybe look better on paper, Golden State has been there.
And you can tell down the stretching in game too.
Oh, there's no question.
The experience, the no panic.
We've been here before.
We've been down by more.
We've been down in a series before.
like all that battle-testedness is the reason why Milwaukee couldn't get past Toronto.
By the way, it's interesting when you played for the Warriors and won a ring.
Did you ever face a team in the playoffs?
You could sense they got anxious in the playoffs.
You could sense they had the pieces because I feel like Milwaukee froze a little in the headlights.
I felt like in game two, Toronto froze a little in the headlights.
When you were with the Warriors, did you sense teams?
I don't know if it was sensing other teams or just believing in how confident
on how good we were or they are now.
Like they just,
they've been through everything.
You know what I mean?
And really they're taking the next man up mentality
to a whole new level,
you know,
and really hats off to Coach Kerr in these players
because you got to think these guys didn't really play a lot.
You know what I mean?
And they're coming in and playing pivotal minutes in the finals
and doing great jobs on both ends.
And but to me,
like I said,
with that matchup back and forth with the guys I mentioned earlier,
all,
everyone on Golden State has been there and been successful at it.
They've won finals and they've lost.
and they've lost finals.
You know, outside of Kauai and Danny Green on Toronto,
those guys haven't done it.
Sergei Baki, he went to the finals and lost in the finals.
But like I said, I just think Golden State's experience,
but if anything could hold them up, it's going to be these injuries.
By the way, what do you make a Kauai buying a house
or something in Toronto that rumor?
What does that mean to you?
I don't think it makes much.
It doesn't make much noise to me.
You know, it was a similar situation where, you know,
Katie bought a place in New York, I guess,
and it's selling his place in the baby.
Well, people don't know, like, all these guys are selling their place in the bay because they're going to have to move to the other side of the bridge.
So just because they're selling their house on the Oakland side doesn't, you know, just because Katie sold that house or if that's the house they're talking about, he would have to sell that house anyway because you're going to have to move to the San Francisco side for the new arena next year.
And you guys are all, you NBA guys, you buy houses.
Doesn't everybody in the NBA have two?
That's what happens.
You know what I mean?
So I don't buy too much into it.
I think these guys, once the dust settles it, everyone's talking about Katie Quire, where they're going to go, where they're going to go.
I think after the finals and they've had to come to kick their feet up and realize
and what happened with this season is when they'll finally decide.
Good to see you, bud.
Good to be seen.
I have Barnes.
Joy with the news.
No, no, no, no.
Turn on the news.
This is the herd line news.
So the warriors have a couple injuries they're dealing with.
Yeah, a couple.
Right now, they're going to need contributions from everyone who sees the court and especially
great games from Steph and Dramon, which is why the latest finals MVP odds have Steph as a big favorite.
He is mine.
200, Kauai Leonard
at plus 280 right now.
Who's third? Dramon Green? He has played great.
God, he's played great. Jemone has played great.
He's like double the player in the playoffs.
7-7-7-7 regular season, then 13, 10, and 8 and a half postseason.
But Dramon is also, he's just perfect for this team.
Like maybe on another team he would not be as valuable
or the idea of giving him a max contract would seem silly.
But this would be a sweep by the Raptors without Dremont.
And with all the other injuries going on, he is so vitally important, especially defensively.
Like, we keep talking all day about how important defense is going to be in this next game.
No, this is very true.
Your point, he is what they aren't.
Like, if you look at New England's receivers, they're all tiny guys.
Gronk was what they weren't.
Oh, good Lord, a 6-6 guy.
That's why when Grunk retired, I'm like, okay, they got to get, and they went and drafted a big receiver.
Draymond is what the Warriors isn't.
physical energy, annoying.
He's just enough of what they aren't to balance them out.
It works.
And that's what you need.
Yes.
And in a lot of ways, that's kind of, I'll not throw it back to another series,
but that's kind of what the rockets lack.
Like, they have this system,
and they all kind of fit into the system,
but they need something else to balance it out.
And that's why Dreamer is so important.
I do think that if the Warriors end up winning the series,
Steph Curry is going to be the finals MVP, though.
It's why he's so heavily favored.
So you just talked about this.
Kauai Leonard has had a great.
first season in Toronto, and now there are some rumors. Michael Landsberg of TSN 1050 in Toronto is reported
that Kauai has purchased property in Toronto. Now, Matt just said, you know, guys buy property all the
time. Yeah.
There are quite a bit of taxes involved in buying a house in Canada. For an American citizen.
Right. And we had Doug Gottlieb on earlier who said that there is, you know, a lot of people
immigrating to Canada. So, you know, real estate may be.
at a premium there right now.
Well, Toronto's a global city.
It's not just a Canadian city.
There are some logical explanations for why he might want to buy a property.
Obviously, another one is that he's feeling comfortable and he wants to stay.
Or maybe he came across a house that he really loved and he's thinking about staying,
so he thought he should take a claim.
He was driving to the arena.
He saw a nice rancher, a fixer-upper, a bungalow.
And he said, I just want to, you know, I want to do my carpentry skills with my massive hands
and I want to fix a house up.
Look, this is part of the deal.
We just, we look for breadcrumbs.
We find one.
That's right.
We highlight it.
And then it becomes a whole bakery.
And we just want to know.
And the reality is, Kauai probably doesn't even know.
Kauai is focused right now on the finals of being the Warriors.
I'm sure he's not talking about his thoughts about whether he's staying or going.
Same with Kevin Durant.
And everyone else as well.
The only people who are actually thinking about where they're going next season are the guys who aren't in the finals.
Right.
Anthony Davis is thinking a lot about where he's going.
Right.
So none of us know anything, especially when it comes to Kauai, but we're just trying to follow along.
All right, finally, Cleveland's.
So, you know, Baker Mayfield's not been one to shy away from the camera critics.
And he's apparently not shy about talking the same way about his teammates.
So Duke Johnson confirmed to reporters at minicamp today that the team wants to trade him.
So let's take a listen to Duke and Baker.
I understand the nature of the business.
I understand, you know, his job, well, John Dorsey's job,
is to do what's best for the team, an organization.
And again, if that's getting rid of me for a bigger piece and a better piece,
then I'm okay with it.
It is what it is.
It's not awkward for anybody else in this building.
How do you support him as a teammate while he's here?
Like, how do you go about doing that?
He's got to do his job.
He said he's a professional.
I hope he does his job.
So pretty simple, quarterback, year old.
Fields.
Tense.
Oh, no.
That was a perfect answer from Baker.
That felt very tense.
He's not adding anything extra to it.
I mean, he just came out and said he wanted to trade.
Now, these rumors, Freddie Kitchens has said that he wants him there and that he doesn't know,
he doesn't know where these trade talks came from.
Now, the thing that's interesting is he was behind Nick Chubb on the depth chart already.
Then they added Kareem Hunt.
Kuhn is not going to be there for a pretty long time.
But when he comes back, that might push Duke Johnson.
back even further. And Duke Johnson probably feels like he is a number one running back somewhere,
starter, and he doesn't feel comfortable with his particular situation there, which I'm fine with.
Anyone who wants to take control of their career, do what you need to do.
Can we run the Baker bite again? John, see if you sense tension here. Joy says she didn't see
anything, her intuition. Let's watch this again. Watch Baker. Does he seem tense and about ready to
erupt? I understand the nature of the business. I understand, you know, uh,
his job, well, John Dorsey's job, is to do what's best for the team and the organization.
And again, if that's getting rid of me for a bigger piece and a better piece, then I'm okay with it.
It is what it is. It's not awkward for anybody else who's building.
How do you support him as a team as while he's here? Like, how do you go about doing that?
He's got to do his job. He said he's a professional. I hope he does his job.
That's a pretty good answer.
Anytime you say it's not awkward, it's obviously awkward.
Well, I think Baker gave the right answer.
Didn't the reporter ask him if it was going to be awkward?
Yeah, I guess he did.
So we kind of put it out there that it might be awkward.
I don't think it's awkward when someone asked for a trade.
Oh, I think Duke Johnson has a point.
He's like, listen, man, I'm a starting back for like 20 teams.
I'd like to play.
I'm not going to play here.
Right.
The only thing is this is more Cleveland noise.
They are noise.
I can't argue with you there.
It is definitely qualifies as noise.
A joy with the news.
Well, that's the news.
And thanks for stuff.
The Herd Lie News.
Oh, I just got a very interesting text.
You always do this.
Right during the show.
Yes, you always do.
Okay, from a massive NBA newsmaker.
Okay.
Newsmaker as a source of yours?
No, this is a great source.
This is as good as sources get.
Well?
He even used an emoji because he knows I like emojis.
You're an emoji guy?
I like, yeah, emoji.
I put emojis on to add significance.
What's your go-to-re?
emoji?
Thumbs up.
That's just pretty good.
Or fist bump.
Okay.
So you like to put emphasis on it.
Emphasis, like my exclamation point.
Listen, I like to be lit.
I like to be cool.
Do you remember the word earlier we learned?
Tert.
Yes, there you go.
What does that mean?
What does it mean?
Come on.
Tell me what's it mean.
I mean, just like, it's similar to lit.
If I said, everything's going to be, it's going to go up a level.
Okay.
This text is turnt.
It is a turt text.
It's the emoji.
Can you tell us the emoji?
The emoji is, it's a funny emoji.
It's a guy going.
Oh, it's the shrug?
It's the MJ shrug.
I will say this.
It's in regards to the Anthony Davis story.
Let me think about it.
I don't want to say something that's inappropriate
and I get my source in trouble.
So let me just.
Okay.
Generally you want to stew.
When I get terned, I get crazy.
I get cray.
Okay.
Corey Brewer's around. We never had him on the show before.
Corey Brewer, he was on that Mavericks team that upset LeBron
in the finals. Good defensive player. Corey's been around the league.
He'll be on the show.
Be sure to catch live editions of the herd.
Weekdays at noon Eastern, 9 a.m. Pacific.
By the way, this just came down.
Kevin Durant, not available to the media today,
which would tell you he's not practicing, which would tell you he's not playing tomorrow.
Clay Thompson is scheduled today to talk to the media,
which would tell you he is playing.
So if Clay can play, I like Golden State's chances.
Corey Brewer has played 12 years in the NBA.
He was on the last great college team at Florida.
Joe Kim Noah, yourself, Al Horford.
They went back-to-back titles, played UCLA in both those final fours.
And you guys came back.
You were all pros and you came back.
That doesn't happen anymore.
Why did you come back?
You could have been drafted.
You could have made money.
Why did guys come back?
We were having too much fun
And just, you know, when you win in championships,
why not try to win as many as you can?
That's why everybody talks about the Warriors.
But when you're winning, you're winning.
It was fun.
Yeah, it was fun.
We were having a blast.
Yeah, and that was, to me, that's the last great college basketball team
because NBA guys all came back.
You got the veterans, you got the great coach, Billy Donovan.
By the way, you've played for everybody.
And you've played for interesting teams.
You were in Oklahoma City a couple years ago with Westbrook.
You just played on the Lakers.
So when you were on the Lakers, they had Magic and Polinka,
and there were rumors it wasn't great.
And then in the end, we find out, man, it wasn't great.
Did you sense, Corey, that it wasn't good when you were playing?
I wouldn't say I could sense it wasn't good, but I just thought it was different, you know,
but they were both knew it to jobs.
So they were both learning.
I thought they were just learning.
Like, Rob goes from being an agent to being a present or being the gym.
And, you know, Magic had been enjoying his life.
He has a lot of great businesses.
So it was just a different dynamic when I got there.
The criticism I have on the Lakers is I don't know who's calling all the shots.
You've played for well-run teams and some dysfunctional teams.
I think Oklahoma City is pretty well-run team.
Yeah, that's great.
When you played with Houston, I don't remember if they were well-run or not.
Darrell's good.
Okay, so you were there with the Darrell years.
I was there with Darrell.
Darrell's good at what he does.
Yeah, very smart guy.
When you were with the Lakers this year, listen, did you sense,
LeBron's coming in. There's trade rumors.
Did you sense at one point, man,
this is a lot of noise.
I sense there was a lot of noise, but anytime you can get a talent like LeBron,
you know, you have a chance to win.
But then at the trade deadline with all that stuff that went down,
it was a little weird for me because those young guys are good kids,
so it's hard to put them in a situation where we're going to trade all of you.
Like, how do you play basketball like that?
Let's talk about that.
What was it like for young guys?
19-year-old guy, you're going to get traded.
What was it like for him?
I think it was tough.
You know, I've been in a leave for 12 years,
so I know what it was like when I was young.
And then also been able to play with those guys.
Like I knew Brandon.
Brandon's a great kid.
He's going to be really talented.
Lonzo is a really good kid.
Kuzma.
All those guys, Josh Hart, all those guys are great kids.
So think about if you tell a kid, yeah, you're probably going to get traded, you know.
So it's like.
It freaked him out.
But we still got to put, you still got to play your best.
But you probably going to get traded.
I think that was tough on those guys.
You know, did LeBron, it was a weird team.
A lot of young guys, then a lot of one-year contract.
guys. You got Crazy Lance, Javelle McGee, you got LeBron. Was it one of the more interesting
locker rooms you'd been in? I wasn't there with those guys. You weren't there with all those guys.
No, not with those guys. You were the year before with all the young kids. I was with the
young kids the year before. So I think it was, it was interesting. I can only imagine what that
locker room was like. But, you know, a guy like Rondo was a great guy. I think he
tucked those young guys under his wing. He's intense. Yeah, but he helps him. I think he
has him going the right direction. But still, everybody talks about, you know, the Lakers.
this, Lakers that, they were to foresee before
LeBron gets hurt. If LeBron
doesn't get hurt, are we still having this conversation?
That's a good point. That's what Doug
Gottlieboa says. They were a four seed.
LeBron got hurt. Let me
ask you about a couple of things happening
right now. So we have a bunch of free agency
stuff. Jimmy Butler could sign and
make more money in Philadelphia, but maybe
he doesn't want to live there. Kauai could
sign with Toronto and make more
guaranteed money. Take me into
the mind of an NBA player.
You guys all know it doesn't last forever.
talk about Paul George State and OKC over L.A.
Could you give up a guaranteed $30 million a year?
Personally, no way.
But I know those guys are on super match contracts.
Like money's crazy.
I think it's about the situation those guys want to be in.
Like, what situation do you want to be in?
Because they have their choice.
They're going to be a superstar.
So what situation do you want to be in?
What mattered, Corey Brewer joining us,
what matter do you the most?
If I said, winning or money,
And by the way, don't feel guilty about either.
I always feel like when you're young, you want the money,
and then you're old, you want to win because you got your money.
If I said to you the two or three things as a free agent that mattered to you,
does the coach matter?
Does the city matter?
Do the taxes matter?
For me, it was a situation.
It would be like the team, like winning.
I wanted to win always just because, you know, you go to college,
you went to a national championships.
You know what it's like to win.
You still want to win.
I'd say, you know, money's great.
Like you said, when you're young, when I was young,
I wanted to get paid.
So once I got my first contract or two,
bought your house, you're good.
Yeah, you're good.
It's all about,
now I want to be in a good situation where I'm happy.
You want to play for a team you're happy playing with.
You want to be in a city, you're happy.
What do you make of,
you have this dynasty in Golden State.
They're all beat up.
It's like a lot of dynasties, Corey.
They're falling apart.
They probably have one more big punch in them.
I kind of feel like Golden State
will just sort of figure out a way to win.
in the last several years, you've faced this Golden State team.
We all know they can shoot.
Tell me what it's like to play a dynasty, their confidence, their players.
What is underrated about them?
The confidence.
I think the confidence is the biggest thing for those guys.
They feel like they're always going to win.
So they're never out of the game.
So you can be up 20 going into the fourth.
And they feel like if Steph makes a couple threes or if Clay makes a couple three,
we're going to win anyways.
And I think when you got that type of confidence, it's tough to lose.
you're known as a guy that played real defense you were a very good defensive player
if you ever get matched up on clay thompson what's he like to guard
he's so tough because he's always moving and the way he can shoot
he's a catch and shoot guy the way he can shoot and it doesn't take him along to get out of his
hand so for me i just try to stay in his pocket but if he catches the ball and he
shoots he has a chance of going in whenever he shoots or wherever he shoots it
you ever get matched up on step yeah a lot and talk about guarding step
oh man i just try to keep the ball
of his hand because like I said
Steph gets the ball in his hand he's going to get screens
or he's going to run off screens and it's just
tough. What do you make of Golden
States like 32 and 2
when Kevin Durant doesn't
play? Now a lot of
people say they're not better but the
offense is different. Yeah
they're not better but it's different so
they're good, they're great when Kevin plays
they're great when he doesn't play because they know
how to adjust like guys step up.
Dramon Green's a fascinating play
in the regular season he averages 7-7-7.
Then his numbers all double for the playoffs.
To you, when you're on the floor with Draymond Green,
what does he provide for them?
What makes him special?
I mean, he's the hard and so of the same.
You think so?
Yeah, of course.
He plays so hard and all the little things he does
that don't show up in the box score.
He's taking charges.
He's guarding the best players.
He's rotating defensively.
He pushes the pace when he rebounds.
He knows those guys can shoot so he can pass.
So he's like to point forward.
He just, he makes him go.
I want to go back to the Lakers.
The story today is Anthony Davis and his agent Rich Paul.
I think Anthony Davis has the power here.
Because Anthony Davis reportedly wants to play for the Lakers,
Knicks or Clippers.
He's not interested in Boston.
So let me just ask you,
if you ran the Lakers today and you want to get LeBron a second player
and the Pelican said,
okay,
we want
Lonzo, Coosma, and Ingram
and you said, no, no, no, I got to keep one.
You don't get all three.
I'll give you draft picks.
If you were the Lakers and had to keep one of the guys
for the next seven, eight years,
of the young guys, which one would you, again,
Pelicans won all of them.
You're running the Lakers.
You got to keep one.
Who would you keep going forward with LeBron?
You get Anthony Davis, so that's a tough one.
You know, I'm a huge Cooseman-Ingram fan.
I love Lonzo, too.
But if you got to keep one, you already have LeBron and you bring to Anthony Davis.
I'm going to keep Lonzo just because you need somebody to pass.
You need a point guard for those two guys.
Somebody has to get Anthony Davis the ball.
Somebody has to get LeBron the ball.
You know, Brandon is going to be great, but he needs the ball because he can really score.
And Cousman, he's a scorer.
That's what they do.
By the way, Paul George stayed in OKC instead of going to the Lakers because of something you told him.
What was it?
Everybody keeps saying that I didn't really tell him anything.
He asked me questions.
I answered this question.
Okay.
What did he ask you?
That's a long time ago.
I don't remember.
Corey, Corey, I need an answer.
Corey, give me an answer.
Corey, did you talk about money a little bit?
I'm saying it's $45 million, $50 million.
If you're happy here, why would you give up $45, $50 million?
That's crazy.
I think it's crazy.
You got kids.
You know, personally, I got kids too.
Another $45, $50 million is a lot of money.
Yeah, especially in OKC.
You can eat at Applebee's virtually every night of the week.
Every night.
You can enjoy your life.
Every night of the week.
Corey, good luck to you.
Javail McGee, by the way, is on our show.
I'm told tomorrow.
And also, the Cleveland Browns are officially making noise.
I just heard more of Baker Mayfield.
Holy moly.
Corey, great meeting you.
We'll see you tomorrow in L.A.
