This is an IHeart podcast.
Guaranteed Human.
Hey guys, it's us.
The Jonas Brothers. I'm Joe.
I'm Kevin.
And I'm Nick.
And guess what?
We created our own podcast called, Hey Jonas.
We invented a podcast?
Well, we didn't invent it.
We just contributed to it.
We're the first people to do podcasts.
We get to ask other people questions because we're sick and tired of being asked questions.
Well, sick and tired is a strong way to put it.
But, you know, tired and sick.
Listen to Hey Jonas on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you.
you get your podcast.
Just listen.
We don't care where you hear it.
The volume.
Max Holloway checks in.
My brother.
Thank you so much for checking in.
Thanks for having me, bro.
Another big fight week, man.
It's like every time last year we're in New Orleans, now back in Las Vegas.
First off, did you enjoy being down there in New Orleans?
I loved it, bro.
Did you stay and eat afterwards?
Yeah, yeah.
We stayed a day.
We got to eat a bunch of food, so we loved it, bro.
What did you have?
Everything.
What did we not happen, bro?
Carcadale is actually really good
You alligator
Alligator, yeah
You like it?
Yeah
That's like chicken
Disgusting man
What the hell
I can't eat like anything
Like I can't look at you
You're so white bro
You're so white bro
Max
You're so white
You're so
I don't even
Call me Jerome from
I actually don't
You don't call me Jerome
Because I'm more soul than you
bro
That's crazy
This guy is crazy
bro
Do you remember when I found out
Your name was Jerome?
Yeah
That was crazy
Wait, wait, what is his
What is his middle name?
Ryan.
Ryan.
I found out.
You guys want to know how I found out
his name was Ryan?
Bro, we got, he called it Uber
and they're like Ryan.
I was like,
I thought, what the fuck is Ryan though?
We don't have no Ryan.
We're not with no white guys.
He's like, I'm Ryan stupid.
I'm like, what the hell?
Because, bro, you know, sometimes,
you know, people call you,
come to get you, yeah, yeah, yeah, whatever.
That's awesome, Ryan, bro.
You're sweating so much.
I know, because you, you know.
because you keep fucking with me the whole time.
I'm going to call you Ryan from now.
Not Daniel,
but you call me Jerome.
When I found out your name was Jerome,
it was the craziest.
It made sense as to why you move so fast.
Yeah.
You can fight the way you fight.
Yeah, Ryan.
That makes sense why you don't move so fast.
Perfect.
And you're a wrestler.
Ryan.
Holy shit,
oh my God.
Bro.
Back in Vegas.
How good is it feel?
Feels good, bro.
Feels good.
I know you know how it is over here.
It's called the Ninth Island.
He's going to have a bunch of wines in that.
Team Mobile Arena.
It's the fight capital.
Oh, my gosh.
I just can't wait.
A BNF title on the line, main event, can beat it.
You know, when we were talking to New Orleans,
we talked about, like, your goals and your aspirations,
and obviously still to become a champion.
When you won that fight, right,
and remained the BNF champion,
beating the guy and Dustin Poy, you're retiring him,
did it feel like it gets you closer?
Do you feel like that win,
if you win this one this weekend,
you can stand and go, hey,
now I think I deserve a chance to fight for the undisputed championship.
Oh, for sure.
For sure, you know what I mean?
Not only that, because I have history with older guys, you know.
I have history with the interim title holder.
I have history of the hold.
The lights went out.
No, because your guy, you got a guy in your fucking crew is like bumping into the thing with his shoulder, bro.
Jackass.
That's my Charles Olivero.
Kind of look like Charles.
Yeah, what is hair line?
I'm just joking.
Do you feel?
You just make fun of everybody, bro.
It's like nobody's safe.
But does it feel like, you know, it puts you closer to that championship by defending the belt this weekend?
Oh, for sure.
You know, like I was saying, I have history with Justin Gitchie, the interim title holder.
I have history with the undisputed title holder.
So at the end of the day, if I can go out there, bro, and you know what it is, if you go out there, you make a moment, that's what UFC wants.
Moments.
They want moments.
You know, if I imagine I go out there, do a 300 moment again, you know what I mean?
It would be insane, you know, how would you deny that?
But that's even the danger in that, though, right?
Like, you know that, right?
You've been around the game so long, you know that.
how do you make sure you don't try to chase that moment again?
Because you go, if I make a 300 moment again,
that's like once in a lifetime, right?
But like, how do you make sure that you don't find, you know?
I mean, you know, go out there, stick to the game plan
and just keep putting on them, you know what I mean?
And if the opportunity presents itself, I'll go for it.
I'm not going to chase it, right?
We have a fight, even with the Justin Gitchie fight, right?
The moment happened in the last 10 seconds.
Yeah, I mean, like, it is what it is, you know?
So if a moment can happen in the first 10 seconds,
if the moment can happen in the second round,
whatever the moment happens, you know, you chase those things,
but you got to be pretty smart to be at this elite level of competition, you know?
Yeah, for sure.
You know, this isn't the first time we've talked since this fight been announced.
You and I spoke before when the fight was announced,
and we talked about Charles Oliva being the opponent, right?
You are a guy that gets these types of fights where people just expect them to be explosive.
When you got the Oliva fight, like what was the excitement level?
knowing that you guys have competed before.
What was the excitement level to fight a guy that's a champion like that for the BMF title?
Exciting.
Exciting.
I mean, like I said, not many guys get to fight for the BMF title.
And then not many guys' names is even thrown in the BMF title conversation.
You know, so at the end of day to have him, a former champion, another former champion.
It's just amazing.
And like you said, we had history, but not really.
You know what I mean?
And he said a bunch of stuff and whatever that was going on with the first fight.
I mean, it was a, it did not live up to the hype, so hopefully this fight, we can write that wrong and, you know, and give the world what they want.
When you think of Charles O'Levara, the fighter, though, what do you think of when you think Charles O'Levara, the fighter?
Because I'll tell you what we think as fans, right?
Yeah, what's the fans think?
We think a guy that can finish fights on the feet.
Unbelievable submission artists.
Just a full-on champion and just a dog.
But honestly, when you look at a guy, you've got to start searching for weaknesses as his opponent.
and Charles has had moments where he has had his weaknesses shown.
How do you see yourself dealing with the pressure of Oliver?
And do you expect him to fight you in that way?
He said it best.
Before he was Jiu-Jitsu Olivera, now he's an MMA Olivera.
And when he's submitting these guys, right, he's not taking them down and submitting them.
He's cracking them on the feet or hurting him on the feet and then submitting him.
I think he's a very dangerous opponent.
I mean, this is, like he said in his own words, M.M.A. Olivera.
And I'm excited for it, you know what I mean?
We get to find out.
I think so.
One of his, I just was doing a bunch of interviews.
One of his Portuguese guys said he said, the difference between this fight and me and him is that he can strike with me, but I cannot grapple with him.
And I'm like, this is MMA.
So we get to find out.
But he said it was MMA.
Yeah.
And now he says, like, it's contradicting yourself.
That's why I don't, I'm confused.
And if he believes he can strike a few.
Maybe it was less, like maybe was lost in translation.
Yeah, maybe.
Maybe.
Maybe.
So, no, he wasn't.
He probably believed that.
If you believe it's tracking me, we get to find out come Saturday night, man.
So I truly believe that one of the things that makes Oliver are so able to survive when you guys hurt him is when they hurt him,
they are so afraid to follow him to the ground that he kind of lays on his back and he gets to recover.
We've seen it time and time again.
He gets dropped and then they don't want to go down because of the dangers.
Are you willing to go down there if you hurt him?
We see what happens, you know.
I mean, if the moment is right, if we feel like we hurt him a lot, maybe we follow him.
If not, if I knock them down a hundred times, I'll tell him get up if I need to.
You know, if I feel like he's playing.
Because you don't know, he played possum.
Yeah.
This guy, like, he loves to play possum.
You know, sometimes he gets hit.
He does his dance thing, and I'm like, brother, you're acting here, you know?
And if the moment is right and we see it and we feel like we actually hurt him, we'll go to it.
But we see what happens.
He has a style where he likes to press forward.
Do you think he fights you in that way?
Especially after the way to fight with Tepori happened,
where he was trying to fight in that style,
but you're so, like, you're fast, you're long, you move a lot.
Do you think Olavera is going to stalk after you
like he did some of these other guys?
And can you take anything from that first fight?
We see what happens, you know?
We see what happens if he does that.
I'm not sure.
You know, I don't know what they do.
Maybe he surprises us and do something in a way else that we've been watching.
But we're ready for everything.
We got ready for everything.
And then asking for the first, from the first fight,
you can't take nothing.
in a way, brother. We were so young, that's like 10 years ago.
Yeah.
I mean, that'd be, if me and him was the same person 10 years ago, we wouldn't be
at where we at in our careers, you know?
We both grew as, as kids.
You're so trash.
As kids.
As kids.
What?
Why are you laughing like a Daniel?
I'll say, where you're so trash.
Back then.
Brother, I would have been a bad.
Your hair was so big, too.
Your ears were so big.
It's almost like your face grew into your ears a little bit.
Your ears were.
Seriously, I saw a picture.
I was like your face in front of the road.
My ears is a huge, bro.
They were big back when you were younger.
It's like the size of yours now.
Come over, bro, don't do that.
When is the last time you had here?
Ask me that.
See, Brad, that's what I was talking about.
This is why you can't invite nobody on your show.
Yeah, never ever.
Because of shit like this, don't.
You just come and disrespect me.
So I want to ask you this, right?
The UFC, we're fighting in the White House, obviously, in June.
But there's an international fight we cart after.
That BMF title could also put you in a place.
where a guy in Cona McGregor, who you asked for history, would also, right, could potentially
be there in June, July. Would that be something you would entertain if, you know, you win the
belt this weekend and you say, man, I want to go and kind of write that. This dude needs an opponent.
I'm holding the BMF title. Would you consider him even in that BMF conversation after he's
been away as long as he has? And is that something that you would look at doing?
Oh, for sure. For sure. Why not? And I mean, if you ever,
I got your fat ass off the couch.
I'll fight you.
Why, you want to fight me?
DmF, bro.
You think I could fight you?
Yeah.
In July?
Yeah.
Man, I couldn't even get to the fighting weight in July.
No, I have to fight no weight.
Heavy weight.
Whatever it is.
We do super heavy weight.
First time ever.
Max, I would beat your ass.
No, no.
In an eating contest, maybe.
Not even that.
You're not even your Ryan.
I'm actually going to go.
I'm actually going to go to Hawaii and I'm going to beat your ass, man.
Please come.
Please come.
Please come and beat my ass.
You need it.
You need it.
Let's do it.
Because you are bad off.
Actually, don't do it because I want to get paid for it.
But back to you.
Hey, it's us, the Jonas Brothers.
And guess what?
We have some big news.
What's the news, name?
Huge news.
We created our own podcast called, Hey Jonas.
We invented a podcast?
Well, we didn't invent it.
We just contributed to a...
We're the first people to do podcasts.
Pretty, yeah, pretty wide range of podcasts throughout there.
But this one's extra special.
So how do we actually come up with a name, Hey Jonas, Jonas, guys?
I honestly don't remember.
I think it was on a call about...
what we should call it.
Oh, we were thinking I'm originally calling it
one of the early names of our band
before Jonas Brothers.
This is how you guys remember it going down?
Yes.
I have a very different memory of this.
We were talking about a thing, a bit for the podcast,
where people could call in and say,
Hey Jonas.
And then I wrote down on my little notepad,
Hey Jonas, and offered it up as a potential title for the podcast.
But thanks for remembering that, guys.
Listen to Hey Jonas on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcast.
or wherever you get your podcast.
Just listen.
We don't care where you hear it.
Question.
If that's the fight, that's the fight.
You know what I mean?
We got to see what happens.
How much times guys here sitting
and talking future references
when they're facing Oliver and then they end up on the bad side?
Yeah, yeah.
I got that focus, but if the Connor McGregor fight
would be dumb as hell not to take it.
Yeah, for sure.
Max, before I let you go, I want to ask you this.
You've been around for so long.
All-time greats, even Dustin Pore.
right?
Because Dustin's not that old,
but people start talking about retirement, retirement, retirement,
like, when is he going to retire?
Is it almost over?
But that doesn't happen with you.
Like, that's, it's the weirdest thing.
Like, I never hear people asking about when Max Holloway is going to retire.
Like, is that surprising?
Because most guys that are champions and then they're not the champion,
and they've been, you've been here for what, 14 years now, 13 years?
Yeah, yeah, 14.
Most people are like, I feel like fans,
actually ran George St. Pierre out the door.
Are you hearing that, and I'm just not hearing it?
I mean, I hear it sometimes, you know, it is what it is,
but I think so I'm only hearing it because I'm beating their favorite fighter.
So at the end of the day, I'm glad, you know, I'm here.
I got a lot more to do.
I want to put my name next to history books in your name with the two-de-division champ,
and one step closer come March 7.
Maybe Mount Rushmore?
You want to be on Mount Rushmore next to me?
You actually say that to the security guard told me that.
Like, you are talking trash about me so much.
Then the security guard, as I pulled into the parking lot, it's like,
Max said he don't want you on Mount Rushmore.
Yeah, I want to do.
I'm like, I can't even get to work.
I can't even get to work.
Whoever is that security guard, Apex, or UFC, please raise his pay it because.
I mean, I can't even get to work.
That's the man.
Without this dude coming at me.
Hey, thank you for checking him.
My brother, you're the man.
All you got to do this before we leave.
Hey, Max Holloway fights and tries to defend his BMF title for the second time this weekend
against Charles Levera at UFC.
C-326 from the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.
Don't miss it on Paramount Plus.
Hey, you ain't even got to pay pay-per-view no more.
Yo, can I hold something?
I heard you all getting paid more.
Huh?
Can I hold something?
I heard everybody getting bigger paychecks.
I don't know.
Justin Gitchie called you out the last one.
He called you up, bro.
He's supposed to be my friend.
Yeah.
Guess what?
He was getting more money and didn't answer the phone.
Oh, wow.
I mean, guys, make sure you don't miss Max Holloway this weekend.
Tune into Paramount Plus.
Until next time, like, subscribe, tell your friends.
tell their friends that DC's got a YouTube channel
and I'm tapping into the people like Max Holloway.
Thank you, brother.
The daddest man on the planet is out. Peace.
Me.
Hey, guys, it's us. The Jonas Brothers. I'm Joe.
