Ah, here we go.
Live in Los Angeles on a Friday show after the draft.
This is The Her.
Wherever you may be and however you may be listening,
we're on IHeart Radio, Fox Sports Radio,
and FS1, Jimmy Johnson, the Hall of Fame football coach,
in one hour from now.
You're going to have a very interesting day two of the draft tonight.
A ton of running backs.
Jonathan Taylor, Wisconsin sitting out there.
I love that guy.
Michael Pittman, wide receivers everywhere.
I love that guy.
We are just starting this draft.
It's just one rounds over.
We got seven.
Joy Taylor is joining me.
Joy, how are you this morning?
Oh, amazing.
That was so fun last night.
It was.
That was a two-cocktail first round of the draft.
Justin Herbert, a new L.A. Charger.
Oregon Duck will be joining us next hour.
Let's start with this.
So Green Bay drafts the quarterback Jordan Love.
And I know what a lot of people are saying.
They're saying, hey, I mean, yeah, Green Bay drafted Aaron Rogers,
and Brett Farve was still good.
No, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no.
Different situation.
Aaron Rogers, many thought there were arguments he could have been the best player in the draft,
the number one pick.
He turned out to be.
But there were debates whether you should take him number one.
He fell to Green Bay.
Jordan Love is a debatable first round quarterback.
And they traded up over teams that weren't going to take him, we think, to get a quarterback.
This is not the same thing.
This is not the same thing.
I want you to see it from Aaron Rogers point of view, regardless of what I think.
So Aaron Rogers
plays the San Francisco
49ers twice last year.
He's down 23 to
nothing first half of the first game and
27 nothing at half the second game.
The games were over at half. Outscored
50-0. Humiliated,
man-handled.
He watched last night, the San Francisco
49ers, the team that has more good
players, it's not real close.
Go out and draft
the first or second best defensive
lineman to a defensive line that gave him fits, and then go get another good weapon.
He's just hoping for a second wide receiver in Green Bay.
Aaron Rogers isn't happy today, and you wouldn't be happy, and it's not fair to criticize
Aaron Rogers if he's a little prickly today.
Happiness matters for your quarterback.
Patrick Mahomes, Lamar Jackson feels supported.
Supported matters.
Aaron's the one taking the beatings in these football games against San Francisco.
Francisco. Now, I've said before, I've always thought that the Aaron Rogers Green Bay
relationships, it's a weird fit. He is this good-looking Hollywood, California, cool,
glamorous guy in the NFL's smallest, least glamorous market. He pushes back on religion.
That's God's country. Wisconsin likes their beer. He prefers scotch. He's a superstar in a market
that a superstar struggles to leave the house and doesn't really attract superstars.
The Midwest, they're nice.
He can be a little aloof.
Not being critical can be a little difficult.
This is Joe Nameth and Buffalo.
Nah, no, Joe Namath and Buffalo doesn't work.
Joe Namath had to be in New York.
You can be in New York State if you're Joe Namath, but you can't be in Buffalo.
Joe Namath had to be in New York.
This is LeBron in Cleveland.
Oh, wait, he left twice.
it's always been an odd fit to me.
Aaron Rogers in Green Bay has always been an odd fit.
And after last night, knowing how good the NFC is,
Minnesota's loaded in his division.
Once Chicago gets the quarterback right,
I love their coach.
They got players.
This now Green Bay, Aaron Rogers, at least from Aaron's side,
and he won't say it publicly, he'll probably be a good soldier.
They're just tolerating each other.
Listen, Peyton Manning always felt loved in Indy.
I mean, when they let him go, they cried.
He cried, they cried.
Drew Breeze feels loved.
Lamar Jackson, Patrick Mahomes, loved.
Sam Darnold, it's a baby.
He didn't even winning games.
They love him.
The owner loves him.
The GM loves him.
Aaron Rogers is in that class.
They don't feel loved.
Didn't feel supported.
I mean, Green Bay's got just some innate disadvantages.
They don't get free agents.
And now you draft the backup quarterback.
Just this rant is about how do you think it lands for Aaron,
regardless of what I think or what you think.
How do you think it lands for him?
Never forget this.
In 2019, Bleacher Report had a writer Tyler Dunn.
He's on our show in the third hour.
And he wrote an article with a lot of sources,
some obviously in the building in Green Bay,
one absolutely in the building,
ripping Aaron Rogers.
And what did Green Bay do about it?
Not much.
That's a phony article.
When ESPN the magazine had an article about Russell Wilson,
remember that one?
And there were some people taking shots at him,
obviously on the Seahawks.
What did they do?
They got the players out of town.
They didn't tolerate it.
They didn't tolerate you ripping
Russell Wilson anonymously.
Pete Carolyn John Snyder got him out of the building.
Bye-bye.
get out of. And good players.
Richard Sherman's a good player. Okay. You're out.
Aaron got tagged.
How do you think Aaron feels today? I'm going to go with this. He's pissed.
He looks around. He's like, San Francisco's way better players, and they went out last night,
and they got better receivers than I already do, and they got another one from Arizona State.
And their defensive line tore us up, and they got another one.
Aaron's in a Super Bowl window.
Aaron Rogers is in that kind of Brady, Breeze Mahomes now.
They're in Super Bowl windows.
They're not interested in being, you know, baseball wild card teams.
You know, the Yankees put up, you know, they put up World Series banners.
The Mets, wild card one year.
Different franchises, different ideals.
Aaron's in a Super Bowl window.
Aaron needs help.
They drafted a backup quarterback.
Here's the GM of the Green Bay Packers in defending his move, and he's getting torn up a bit today.
Here's what he said.
He's obviously been through this.
He's a pro, and I think it's certainly this is something that is a long-term decision.
I think when you go through kind of the way things went to me, kind of you ran the short term and long-term.
We've got the best quarterback in the national football league, and we've planned to have him for a while competing for championships.
So I can understand, you know, the fan base and people thinking kind of why would you do this at this time?
But I just think the value of our board and the way it's at, it was the best thing to the Green Bay Packers.
We're really excited to get Jordan here and get him into our system.
Well, it wasn't the best thing for Green Bay today.
You know, it may be the best thing for Green Bay in four years, but it's not the best thing for Green Bay today.
And Aaron Rogers, he's playing today.
Aaron Rogers is taking the beatings today.
Aaron Rogers trails 23-0 and 27-0 at half to San Francisco today.
He's not interested in you put money in a 401-K.
He's like, baby, let's go to Vegas.
Put it on black and white.
Black red.
I need money now.
I need money now.
I need cash.
I need players.
I need help now.
It's ain't about a 401k.
Let me shift to the Dallas Cowboys,
who got a little heat last night.
The Cowboys 17 picked up wide receiver,
C.D. Lamb.
Now, CD is going to be a productive player in Dallas.
I mean, you can't double him.
They got Amari Cooper.
They got Michael Gallup.
They got Zeke.
You ain't doubling him.
A little drag route underneath.
He's going to be productive.
But Dallas already has 2,000-yard receivers.
Dallas's defense was bad last year.
They lost their safety, their best corner,
and they lost Robert Quinn, who was their sack leader.
It wasn't a move exactly addressing their needs.
And it was funny on TV last night.
I was with my buddy watching.
He came over last night.
Social distancing.
Each had a cocktail 10 feet away.
And we're watching it.
And everybody's trying to guess the pick.
They think they took a safety.
And they're showing Jerry Jones and then his.
daughter the beautiful and talented and brilliant Charlotte Jones and they're all high-fiving and
laughing and I turned to my friend and I said, they didn't get a safety. Jerry Jones ain't that happy over
a safety. Jerry's on his yacht and I'm like, that, that's not a safety reaction. They just went and
got somebody who scores touchdowns. Sure enough, it's Cedley Lamb. You don't celebrate like that because you
got a safety. They were like Mike McCarthy was gritted. Everybody's laughing. Oh my God. We got
who. You don't do that over a safety. You do that over a guy who played a nearer.
by Big 12 when Mike McCarthy
knows, I got another weapon.
I got another guy. How about them
cowboys? But let me
defend Dallas here.
Let me defend them.
The NFL's changed.
The rules have changed.
The league has changed.
We all banged on the Raiders for getting rid
of Khalil Mack. He was a non-factor
last year. You know who was better than
Khalil Mack of the Bears last year?
Josh Jacobs, rookie running back.
Oakland.
Why? Because if you're going to roll the dice, roll it on offensive players.
You go look at last two drafts.
Who are the players who are way better than their draft slot?
Lamar Jackson, offensive player, Josh Jacobs, Mark Andrews, tied in Baltimore, D.K. Metcalf.
You start looking the last two or three drafts as all these rules have changed.
Can't touch anybody.
And the players that massively exceed expectations, they're not defensive guys.
they're all offensive guys.
So Dallas is saying, listen,
we're not going to let the Philadelphia Eagles
get an Oklahoma sooner from the Big 12.
There's no way because Oklahoma,
you know, that's Dallas Cowboy territory.
And Jerry's sitting there thinking on his yacht,
I'm going to give this to Philadelphia.
I'm going to watch C.D. Lamb,
now that Byron Jones has gone to roast our corners,
I'm not going to do it.
So it was part of that.
And Dallas has actually drafted
like really good players on defense.
I still can't stop anybody.
I still can't stop anybody.
The truth is, folks, who can stop anybody?
It's if you're going to draft and you're going on a safety or a wide receiver,
I got to tell you, the current NFL, I'm going wide receiver.
I've never even been a fan of wide receivers.
I call them icing on a cake.
Now, you know, if you have a cake, there's a cake and there's icing,
but sometimes you put some icing in between the layers of the cake.
That's what's happened to wide receivers.
They're now at least layered in the cake.
They matter more.
The rules changed.
So I can bag on Dallas for getting a receiver and they didn't need one,
but I'm looking at the draft the last couple of years.
CD Lamb's going to give you 800 yards, 700 yards.
I mean, whatever he does.
Safety?
You're not celebrating on a yacht like that getting a safety.
They don't matter as much.
not in this league, not in this time.
All right.
So I have, oh my God.
Who won the first round?
Oh, boy, hold on.
All right, John, I've got a...
It's happening again already?
Yes. Justin Herbert, by the way, is coming up next hour.
Colin's bat phone is ringing.
The source has text him.
I'm getting people from other networks, though.
They're seeking information from, you know, America's media icon.
Coming up next, who won yesterday?
And how about the Raiders?
The Raiders have decided we know it's a copycat league, except us.
We're just going to do our own thing.
And I'm not sure it's a bad thing.
We'll talk about why they do that.
Why they're the one team in the NFL.
Last two drafts, they are totally doing their own thing.
Be sure to catch live editions of the herd.

Because people scoreboard watch.
Life becomes about wins and losses.
Steve Burns, Dustin Ross, because you find it important to be a good person while you hear on earth,

Supporting Lowe's, Red Vest Associates,

Lowe's has been fantastic.
And thanks to all the advertisers today,
they have come in strong,
the economy, we cross our fingers.
Encouraging news continues in America and around the world with this pandemic.
Peter Schrager in about 10 minutes.
So, I mean, I thought this was interesting.
So the Green Bay Packers had to give away a pick to move up,
to move up to get the fourth best quarterback when they've already got a Hall of Famer.
the Chargers and the Dolphins got better quarterback prospects and didn't have to trade up.
And they don't have franchise quarterbacks.
Just think about that.
Green Bay's got a star, got the fourth best quarterback, and had to give a pick to get him.
The winners last night, to me, were Miami and the Chargers.
They didn't have to give up any picks, forego their future.
And they got their quarterback.
I mean, clearly Miami was more two than Herbert because they picked first.
And they took him.
And clearly the Chargers, there was a lot of rumors, but if they were worried about Tua, they got Justin Herbert.
And they didn't have to give anything up.
And then they got a great linebacker later.
So here's the way I look at it.
Where did you land?
So we know the Chargers is a perfect situation.
Loaded roster, bunch of weapons, great GM, warm weather city, West Coast kid stays wet.
He's joining us in an hour, by the way.
A West Coast kid stays west.
It's perfect.
And he can learn from a real pro Tyrod Taylor, a grownup.
For a year.
No pressure.
Great roster.
So we know how this game works.
Lamar Jackson going, oh, I can sit behind Flacco.
I got a great coach.
I got a great owner.
I got a great GM.
We got a good roster.
We know how the game works.
Where you land matters.
Herbert, it's perfect.
Literally, only thing we don't know is Anthony Lynn a great coach.
We don't know that.
He did get him to a playoff.
He did get him to the AFC playoffs, and they won a game in the playoffs.
So there's something there.
We know he's pretty good, right?
To get to the playoffs, you're not incompetent.
But outside of that, everything else we know.
They got the GM, they got the roster, they got the players.
They needed a quarterback.
Didn't have to trade anything.
He's got no baggage, four points due, no injuries.
Let's look at Miami.
Now, Joe Burroughs going to a bad roster, potentially the fourth best coach,
the cheapest donor, and the history of losing.
and good God is Cleveland, Baltimore, and Pittsburgh's defensive fronts frightening.
But here's Tua.
And you say yourself, well, Tua's going to a rebuilding job.
No, he's not.
No, no, no, he's not.
Tua is in a much easier division.
He doesn't face Lamar and Baltimore.
He's not going to face Cleveland's roster.
He's not going to face Big Ben and Pittsburgh and Mike Thomas Super Bowls.
No, no.
Tom Brady's gone.
Sam Darnold, we don't know.
Josh Allen's still young.
So Miami gets Tua.
It doesn't have to trade up to get their guy, and clearly it's their guy because they could have taken either, either to our Justin Herbert.
And in free agency, they've now Byron Jones, Kyle Vanoy, Jordan Howard, Shaq Lawson, last night starting left tackle and a corner.
And they have 12 picks left.
So by the end of this weekend, Tua's playing on a much, much better roster than Cincinnati in a much easier division.
And he doesn't have to start for a year.
So the winners of the draft to me are the Chargers and the Dolphins.
When you don't have to, everybody has to trade up for picks, for quarterbacks, right?
Like, isn't that the rule?
They didn't have to.
They didn't have to.
One, Herbert gets a loaded roster.
The other, two, up by the end of the weekend, is going to have a significantly better roster than Joe Burrell.
So it is Justin Herbert one hour from now.
When you're looking for a franchise quarterback and you can get the guy you want and you don't have to give up anything and you don't even
have to start them. You got a pro Ryan Fitzpatrick, Tyrod Taylor. That's the perfect way it
works. That's Mahomes with Alex Smith. You know what I mean? The difference is they had to give
away picks to get him, but that's what you're praying for. Burrell's going to start day one,
game one in that division. Ravens twice, Steelers twice, Brown's defense twice. Good luck.
And I think Joe's talented. I like Joe Burrell. I do. I do. B-plus. Like him. But watch out.
Tua Herbert better situations, day one. And that stuff matters. Joy Taylor with the news.
No, no, no, no.
Turn on the news.
This is the herd line news.
Well, there was a lot of talk about Miami trying to trade up for the first pick to get Joe Burrow.
But Dolphins GM Chris Greer confirmed after the first round last night that they did speak to the Bengals,
but they are also very happy with their selection of Tua.
There are a lot of talented players.
We really liked to do it.
And we felt very comfortable at the end of the day.
He would be a fit here.
Football is a violent game.
The guys are going to get hurt.
So for us, we did a lot of work on them,
as we do with every player,
a team staff and doctors,
led by Kyle Johnson, a fantastic job.
And so we're very comfortable.
Brian Flores also said we haven't seen him,
as in to our doctors haven't seen him.
We're a long way before we can say who's going to do what.
It's way too early to speculate on this year and how it's going to go.
of course answering the question of whether he's going to start or not.
They do have Ryan Fitzpatrick, as you said, and Josh Rosen on the roster.
I'm very happy with this choice.
I thought it was a very direct choice, obviously, right?
Like you said, Justin Herbert was still available.
So this is clearly the guy that they wanted because they could have taken Justin Herbert.
Joe Burrell was not available.
And this was the plan all along, right?
Like this was the rumor that they wanted to.
And there he is.
Obviously, the injuries make me uncomfortable, but I think that he's so much more talented at this point than Justin Herbert.
You have to take that risk if you think that he is the guy.
He has all the intangibles, and you need a franchise quarterback.
It was making me a little nervous.
I'm not going to lie.
I was sitting there thinking, like, if they take an offensive tackle here, I'm going to lose by mind.
But they made the right choice, and I personally feel like they won the first round.
They have 12 more picks.
Draft another quarterback.
I mean, seriously, they got to build the offensive line.
They'll go back to the offensive line, absolutely, and running back.
The dolphins today have a couple of picks.
They're going to go running back and probably align.
But if by the third or the fourth round, they went and got, let's say fourth round,
they get another quarterback.
It wouldn't bother me.
When you've got that kind of draft capital, 14, 15 picks, it doesn't bother me.
It doesn't because Ryan Fitzpatrick's won and done.
He's out after this year.
So, listen, the Redskins did this with RG3 and Kirk Cousins.
people crushed him for it and Kirk Cousins ended up winning a division for them and then and being the better of the two quarterbacks.
It was the best thing they ever did.
Yeah.
So if you think there's a risk, fifth round, go draft another quarterback who shares some traits with Tua and roll the dice.
What I love most about it is that they didn't give up any picks.
None.
To get their guy.
So I love that.
The Lions made it very clear.
Let they were open to trading the third overall pick last night, but they ended up using it themselves to select cornerback Jeff Akuta.
and Lions GM Bob Quinn said that even though they had discussions with multiple teams about a trade,
they never got a firm offer from anyone and nothing was put on the table for them to evaluate.
I was shocked that the Lions did not move this pick.
But now hearing that they didn't have a secure offer, this makes sense.
I mean, we figured that if there was going to be an offer, it was going to be from the Chargers of the Dolphins.
And clearly they both felt like they didn't have to move to get their guy.
And they didn't.
So smart by the Dolphins and the Chargers to not overpay for what they could have stayed in their position.
to get.
And this was very surprising to me.
Although a lot of people did say that as much as we thought there was going to be
a lot of major trades within the top 10 or something like this happened,
that teams might be a little hesitant because of the circumstances to try
and pull off some type of big trade.
The first trade didn't happen until the bucks moved from 14 to 13 and to deal with the 49ers.
Yeah, I mean, there's a couple of total trades in the first.
Yeah, it felt like to me the trades were like, hey, can we just move right in front of you
and give us a fifth?
They weren't complicated trades.
Right.
Can we just move one up and get somebody we like and we'll give you a fourth rounder?
That's an easy one guy phone call.
You can do it in two minutes.
I thought, by the way, I thought the draft move very quickly.
I did too.
I thought it flew by.
It not only didn't move quickly, I have to say the broadcast was tremendous.
Excellent.
We were all very nervous about how everything was going to go.
There were no problems at all.
Nothing that I noticed anyway.
No, I thought it was.
By the way, I got to see all these kids with their families.
Right.
I'm not so sure that's not better than seeing them on a stage in New York.
I loved, I love seeing inside the houses.
I'm like, oh, look at there's a family.
It's a moment.
Yeah, I thought it was just spectacular.
I love it.
Yeah, they did a tremendous job.
Finally, as expected, Joe Burrow was drafted first overall by the Cincinnati Bengals.
Didn't look happy.
I mean, okay, just hold on.
After being picked, he said he never would have thought he would be in this position.
You know, I knew I was going to have a really good season because I knew, you know,
we had really good players coming back.
coaches and we were going to work really, really hard to do it.
But to jump up to number one overall is crazy to me.
But it's a dream come true.
You know, Joe Burrow has a little bit of Aaron Rogers in him.
Little.
Just a little bit.
I love it.
I love the confidence.
I love the, no, he's not like he's passive aggressive, but he's a little coy sometimes.
I can't wait to watch him play.
I want to watch him play.
I want to watch Baker Mayfield.
I like these young guys that are a little polar.
I think they're fascinating.
I'm going to watch a lot of Bagles games.
How lucky are we, Joy?
In my lifetime,
even quarterbacks who aren't great yet on bad teams,
I'm totally in on.
So compelling.
There's never been in time.
There used to be, when I was growing up and watching football,
a third of the half of the teams had a boring quarterback.
The guys now that are struggling like Baker,
I am, I turn to every single Baker-Mayfield game.
I'm fascinated.
Joe Burrow, I'll be watching.
every bingo game for the next two years.
I also feel like we get to know them a little better now, right?
Like with social media and all the media coverage that we have of college football and
high school football, we know so much more of their story.
We get to watch and see them develop and get to know them.
It feels like on a more personal level.
So you have a little bit more of a connection.
Even if you're not a big fan of them necessarily, you know enough about them that
it creates these compelling stories.
And as far as him not looking super happy, I mean, he's known he's going to be the number
I want to pick for a while now.
I think his initial conversation
with the Bengals probably happened a few days ago.
Justin Herbert looked awfully happy.
Yeah.
If I was going to the Chargers roster, I'd be happy too.
God.
Joy with the news.
Well, that's the news.
And thanks for stopping by.
The Heard Line News.
Joining us now, Fox Sports NFL reporter,
Peter Schrager, sponsored by Mercedes-Benz the best or nothing.
So we heard so much about two.
Shrags, let's go.
at this. Let's go behind the scenes on the Tua thing. They didn't have to give away
picks and they got their guy. Explain. They got their guy and I'll tell you, Colin, there was
talk throughout the last few days that Justin Herbert was the guy. It turns out a bit of a
smoke screen and I spoke with sources within the Miami organization today. The reason people
might have thought that was because people in Miami in the building themselves, coaching staff
and front office really resented the tank for Tua stuff this year and did so so much that they
would tell anyone outside the building,
they're not about Tua. It's not about Tua.
It's about the team that we've got right now,
and we're trying to build, we're trying to win.
And Brian Flores, that team fought.
I mean, you saw they beat the Eagles in a big game in November,
and then they went and beat the Patriots
and really ruined the Patriots playoff chances at home field throughout.
And it got misconstrued that the Dolphins,
they didn't actually like Tua.
No, no, they did like Tua.
They didn't like the tank for Tua talk.
So they go through the process, and I can tell you,
The owner and the general manager not only went to Alabama LSU to get to know Tua better,
they went to the bowl game.
And when I say that's important, it's because Tua wasn't even playing in the bowl game against Michigan.
When the owner, the general manager, and for the ball game, I'm told Tom Garfinkel,
the president of the Miami Dolphins, was there as well.
And it was for no other reason that to do their work on Tua.
You go to the combine, they felt comfortable with the medical.
And the dolphins, they took three players.
They took Tua.
They took Austin Jackson, who you know from U.S.
SC out there. They took a kid out of Auburn. Noah. I'm not going to say his last name, Noah I,
who I'm told are three cornerstone people, forget players, people, and they represent what
Brian Flores wants to build. They got to a, I was duped. I didn't have them taken to a.
It happens very rarely where I get completely the wool over my eyes. Well, in this one, they kept it
from everybody, and they pulled it off, and they didn't have to give anything up to get them.
Good to see. Shregers always got the story behind the story. That's why I love Shregs.
So I said this this morning in my rant. So Aaron, just,
Instead of my opinion, think of what Aaron Rogers thinks.
I played San Francisco twice, trailed 23-0-0-5 and 27-0.
We're not physically close.
And you get a backup quarterback, and San Francisco went and got a star receiver
and another great defensive line talent.
I could see Aaron Rogers this morning thinking, under his breath, the hell.
I'm the one taking the beating out here against the Niners' defensive front,
and you get my backup.
I mean, listen, Aaron may be a good soldier on this.
I would get him being upset, right?
That's a great question.
The soldier versus being upset because you go back 15 years,
Brett Farv was terrible to Aaron Rogers' first couple of years.
Go read Jeff Perlman's book on Brett Farb,
and you'll read some of the stuff that Farve would do.
Farb tortured him at moments.
And in the last few years, they really have addressed it.
And Rogers and Farv have become friendly,
and have actually played golf and have forged a relationship.
I would wonder now if Aaron Roders is in those shoes,
if he learned from that and said,
I'm going to be the bigger man,
and I'm not going to do anything wrong,
and I'm going to move on.
That said, he can still be pissed
because I think Raheim Moster just scored another touchdown in that game.
I mean, that was one of the worst,
the most lopsided performances,
and you had guys like Patrick Queen,
and you had guys like Kenneth Murray.
You had guys on the board that you're thinking,
all right, maybe not Murray was there,
but they had Queen and a couple other defense stops.
Black Hawk from TCU.
Are they a backup quarterback away from making a soup?
or are they a couple more defensive players away from making a Super Bowl?
Rogers can't publicly say anything, but I also wonder this, Colin,
and this is for you to think big picture.
The Packers are the only team that don't have an owner.
They said a second-year head coach and a second-year general manager
go and draft a backup quarterback when they were one game away from the NFC,
from the Super Bowl.
I wonder if that team had a proper owner and had a situation where you had to report to somebody
and get the approval and really think things big picture if that would have been a decision.
Just a hypothetical, but it's a problem.
does make Greenby a very, very interesting situation as far as corporate structure goes.
Yeah, it feels very safe. It's a very 401K move. And that's great, guaranteeing you won't be in chaos
four years from now. But Aaron Rogers is playing now and taking a beating at the hands of San Francisco
now. Speaking of the Niners, Shregs, we all thought there was a real possibility. They would just
move out of the first round. But they did not and got two terrific players. What's the story
behind the scenes this morning on the Niners.
All right.
So in the hours leading up to the draft, I had got good intelligence.
At Kinlaw, they were doing flips over Kinlaw.
That was their guy because they lost the Forrest Buckner and they met with Kinlo and he fit
everything that Robert Salah and John Lynch are about.
So they knew they wanted Kinlo.
Well, when the Buccaneers called and said, we'll trade up because they wanted the offensive
tackle and said, okay, but we're not trading back too far.
I mean, that's the perfect trade partner.
We'll trade back one.
We'll get Kinlaugh.
Let's go to Ayuk, though, because this is wild.
There was talk leading up to the draft that that that, that, that, that,
Iyuk might actually go before even Henry Ruggs.
Like there was that kind of buzz about this Arizona State product.
Kyle Shanahan has said, and he said it yesterday in his press conference, and I can
confirm it.
Brandon Ayuk was the number one wide receiver on the 49ers draft board.
Higher than CD Lamb, higher than Rugs, higher than Judy.
They got their number one wide receiver and a prospect that they had their eye on the entire
month in Kinlaw.
They are doing flips over there in San Francisco, and it's one of those deals.
Your Rogers thinking, okay, like you.
said, we got a backup quarterback. No, no. Now you've got Debo Samuel and Brandon Iuk playing for
Kyle Shanahan's offense, and they had Kinlo when they lost their far as Buckner, who's going to be
making one-tenth of what Buckner made last year. So very happy guys out there in the Silicon Valley
area today in San Francisco. Also, George Kittle, the best fullback in the league, and the smartest
offensive mind in Kyle Shanahan. Good luck, Aaron Rogers. So, you know, this is a copycat league,
but for the second straight year in the first round, the radar.
are like, we're doing it our way.
And they go out and they get Henry Ruggs.
They take him before Jerry Judy.
He is a burner.
And then they went and got Damon Arnett,
a corner from Ohio State that many people
had as a second or a third rounder.
So they're kind of doing their own
thing in Las Vegas
slash Oakland. What did you make
of that cornerback move specifically?
Yeah, so I'll tell you,
and I don't think Mayack or Gruden would be
upset to hear this. I know a couple
teams that had Arnett completely off their board.
It didn't said undraftable because of some immaturity issues younger, younger years at his time
at Ohio State.
Now, since then, I've heard other teams say, well, he cleaned that up, he's changed, he does
that.
But when you hear, you know, red flag because of immaturity issues and then you hear
Las Vegas, then you hear Raiders with what they went through last year with Antonio
Brown.
Like, does that make sense?
Then again, I kind of respect it.
This is one of those deals where they're digging, where everyone's zagging.
I think a lot of people question the.
Clef Farrell pick, the Max Crosby pick, and certainly taking a running back in the first round with Josh Jacobs,
all of those guys really were performing last year by the end of the season.
I got to respect it.
This is total Mayak and Gruden.
They are riding this bus, and they don't care what the mock drafts say.
When the rest of the league is maybe going a little conformity, they're saying we're going to do it our way.
I respect it.
Let me throw this at you.
I said I thought the Chargers in Miami won the first round because they got a franchise quarterback.
neither has to start him immediately and neither had to give up picks for him.
So that feels like a big win for those franchises.
Is there a team you looked at the first round and thought, wow, home run, won it?
I've never said this in the history of covering the draft.
But the team that won the Super Bowl had the last pick in the first round is by big winner.
The Chiefs, they returned 22 starters to a Super Bowl team,
and they got Clyde Edwards-Hallair, who is the number one running back on a lot of teams boards.
and it's just almost like adding the rich get richer.
And what I love about this is Brett Veach, the general manager,
brought the tape of Clyde Edward Taler to Andy Reid and says,
you know what, I think he reminds me a little bit of Brian Westbrook.
They put the tape on.
Andy Reid comes back in his office two hours later and says,
hey, Brett, he's better than Brian Westbrook.
They just got another dynamic player that they can add to this team.
And one last note, they just threw it to Mahomes before they made the pick.
They knew they were taking them, and they said, hey,
Is there a guy you like in the first round?
And his answer was just one word, Clyde.
I think the chiefs really loaded up last night on one guy that I think is going to give nightmares to defensive coordinators around the league.
Yeah, you know, listen, man, this league has a history of the rich getting richer because of other teams bypassing.
So Kansas City's offense and Andy Reid gets another stud in San Francisco.
Oh, let's see.
Let's give him another defensive lineman up front that's a monster.
And Kyle Shanahan another weapon.
So the Super Bowl team, I'll tell you, the three teams.
so far this off season? Baltimore, San Francisco and Kansas City. They've had good off seasons,
man. They have had good off seasons. They sure have. Good stuff. Peter Schrager's got nothing
but information. Good talking to you. I love it, Colin. It's the best. I know you love these three days
as much as I do. Keep on going. All right, buddy. Thanks. He's so good. Coming up next,
some thoughts on Tom Brady and Tampa. That guy's charmed. And the Raiders and Jimmy Johnson,
Top of next hour.

And we don't know when we've done enough.
Because people scoreboard watch.
Life becomes about wins and losses.
Steve Burns, Dustin Ross,

What?
Quarterback on office blue 42.
A rep, my mama want you to wave at her.
What?
Where's he at?
Hey, Miss Parker.

FoxBet is offering another Super 6 contest for the NFL draft. Make sure you download the Fox
Bet Super 6 app and play for free before round two kicks off tonight. Colin, one of the questions
is who will be the first quarterback drafted in round two? Jacob Eason?
Yes.
Everyone hurts. Jake Fromm, Rice Perkins, or no quarterback drafted or any other quarterback.
Jacob Eason is going to get drafted. Keep your eye on the Colts. Keep your eye on the Colts.
Jacob Eason, Washington, keep your eye on the Colts.
Who have really, they're ready to win. They've got to get the quarterback right.
I like that.
There you go. Philip Rivers for one year. Jacob Eason comes in and learns from a pro.
So let me talk about Tom Brady. Boy, is this a charm life?
You know what Tampa needs is a really good right.
tackle. Oh, wait. The best offensive lineman that dropped out of the top 10 is there, Tristan
Worf's at number 13. How great was that? I mean, it's just, here's the thing. Right now, Tampa is giving
Tom everything he didn't have. He's having fun. He's got to lose coach. He's got weapons. He's got warm
weather. And he's got a staff that is obviously listening to him. I don't think it was a little thing that
The Chargers went out and aggressively went and got two offensive linemen in free agency very quickly.
It was a message to Tom.
You're 43.
You don't want to get hit.
We get it.
Lamar Jackson, Mahomes at this point, they don't want to get hit either.
It's okay.
Young athletes, you know, they bounce back.
Tom doesn't want to get hit.
Chargers thought they had him.
And they pro-bow guard, Trey Turner, Beluga left tackle.
Tom, you're safe to come here.
He didn't.
but I'm sure part of this was Tom never, ever felt like, you know, a personnel decision.
Tom had said it before.
They don't ask me.
I feel like Tom right now feels supported.
All the boxes are being checked that weren't checked in Tampa, including I bet you Jason
Light, the general manager, talk to Tom.
They had an hour phone call and said, listen, we need to right tackle.
That's going to be our first pick.
You think Belichick's telling Tom what his first pick's going to be?
No. And then Tom Price said, you know what I want? Can I bring gronk?
I mean, this stuff was prearranged. Okay, this stuff, this is not just happenstance.
This is something Tampa told Tom Brady was going to happen.
And this is what he wanted. He wanted fun. He wanted weapons. He wanted to be heard about personnel.
Boom, now he is. Let me go to the Raiders. Rators went a little on brand and then strangely off brand.
They went and got a character guy that's iffy. And last year it was all but let's get character guy.
when they got Damon Arnett from Ohio State.
It's a copycat league, and the Raiders last year
didn't listen to anybody or do what anybody thought
and they hit it out of the park.
So I got to support him there.
So why can they do this?
Because John Gruden's got a 10-year contract.
You're not going to fire him.
A lot of these coaches, they're doing things that are good,
but they feel is safe.
These are not safe moves.
Here's the other thing I saw last night,
is that John Gruden sitting there think,
I got Andy Reed and Patrick Mahomes for a decade
because Andy's not retiring.
He lives football and Patrick Mahomes is going nowhere.
I'm not playing it safe.
So they go out and get Henry Ruggs who ran a 4-2-40.
Gruden's saying, that's our Tyreek Hill.
We're going to match him.
We're going to have a Tyreek Hill.
Then they go out and get Damon Arnett a very physical corner
from a program that puts them out like a factory.
Ohio State.
A very physical corner.
Is he a risk?
Yes, because when you're facing Andy Reid and you're facing Patrick Mahomes for 10 years, you can't play it safe.
Or you're going to end up eight and eight behind the chargers and the chiefs.
And I think Denver's on the come.
This division's really good.
And it's getting better fast.
And I think Gruden looks at it and thinks, okay, I got a Super Bowl champ my division.
I got maybe the best player designer of my division.
I've got the MVP quarterback in my division.
I'm not playing it safe.
Safe is eight and eight.
I'm not playing it safe.
And I also think the Raiders now have an identity.
And you know I'm big into that.
Joy has to, I talk about this all the time.
A business has to have an identity.
A show, the herd, you've got to have an identity.
You got people imitating me.
You got people mocking me.
But we have an identity.
The metaphor is the analogy.
You got to have one of those.
Raiders have an identity now.
Their tight end, Darren, is a burner.
Fastest tied end in the league used to be a receiver.
Now they've got Henry Ruggs, who has a,
along with Tyreek Hill is a burner.
Their number two receiver, Tyrell Williams, can run a 4-4-5 guy.
Their slot receiver, Hunter Renfro, Josh Jacobs.
This is a power-running football team with Josh Jacobs and a bunch of speed on the outside.
Home run speed.
This is not like possession guys.
These are got the tight end can run, rugs can run, Williams can run.
It is a power running game which Gruden loves and speed on the outside.
So if you have an identity, it's the first moment I go, okay, they know what they're doing.
Like that's to me when you watch a team that like right now, Miami,
I sense, I sense it's New England South, strict, covert, quiet,
cornerbacks, build defense first.
Jimmy Johnson, the Hall of Fame coach, hour two next.

We'll be joining us in five minutes, and Joy Taylor is joining me as well. Let me read this
very quickly. Our friends at Lowe's have been doing amazing things during this crisis.
All draft week, the Red Vest Associates.
We've been sharing stories about their employees
and what they're doing for their communities.
Our heartfelt, thanks to Lowe's Red Vest Associates,
needed and delivering.
And Joy Taylor's joining me.
Joy, how are you?
I'm fabulous.
My team has a quarterback.
Didn't have to move or give up any picks to get him.
Sat right, nice and comfortable at five.
It'd have me a little nervous, but what a great night last night.
It was.
congrats the ESPN. They did a great job.
They did.
I thought the Green Bay move to get Jordan Love was interesting.
I understand protecting yourself for the future,
but they traded away a draft pick to move ahead of Seattle.
Well, Seattle's got Russell Wilson.
They weren't taking Jordan Love.
And to move ahead of Baltimore.
They ain't taking Jordan Love.
They got Lamar Jackson and ahead of Tennessee,
which just signed Ryan Hill to a contract extension.
So I didn't really get it.
And I also think here's something about it.
I think you have to win your division first.
When Nick Stevens built in Alabama, you got to win the SEC before you can worry about the playoffs.
Steve Spurrier used to always say that.
I'm building to win the SEC.
What happens later later, but I got to win the SEC.
And so like Arizona takes Isaiah Simmons.
Why do they take him?
Because they got Russell Wilson in that division.
They got to find somebody that can chase around Russell Wilson for the next seven years.
And if you look at the Steelers and you look at,
teams that are going to face Lamar Jackson.
You better have linebackers that can run to chase Lamar Jackson.
I think you have to win your division.
So Green Bay is in a division with Minnesota.
Minnesota's got an excellent coach, Mike Zimmer,
and I think Minnesota's got a tremendous front office.
They draft very well.
And I think Minnesota's got a better roster today than Green Bay does.
And so Green Bay is got to keep pace, let's be honest, with Minnesota.
So Minnesota's already got a top running back.
They've already got two excellent tight ends.
Adam Thielen a star receiver and a star wide receiver and a very capable quarterback.
So they got the running back, two tight ends, they got a star receiver.
Then last night, they go out this roster and get another receiver and a starting corner from TCU.
And they got a second round pick and two thirds.
So Minnesota could get five players, multiple starters.
Green Bay, drafted a backup.
And they need wide receiver help.
And they need offensive line help, and they need linebacker help.
I didn't love it as an indivision move.
You know, you got to play your division.
You got to play those teams twice.
Winning at Minnesota's tough.
And Minnesota travels particularly well, I think.
Well-coached teams with efficient quarterbacks generally travel okay.
So I just, I didn't love the idea that Green Bay, I think, isn't quite as good,
top to bottom as Minnesota as a roster.
Well, Minnesota last night got two starters.
two perimeter starters
and Green Bay got a backup
and then they got a second round pick today
and they got two thirds
and Green Bay not only didn't address
a need in the first round
they gave up a fourth rounder
so after the fourth round I don't really care
about your picks much I mean it really is
once you get a bunch of six years trying to trade up
and make that a four or three
you know first round you should get a star
second third round you should get starters
but I just thought as an indivision move
I didn't love it.
I think Minnesota, that drafts well, got better last night.
They got faster.
They got a burner at corner and a super talented slot receiver.
And Green Bay got a backup.
I didn't love it.
But, you know, I mean, this draft stuff is, I mean,
the Raiders last year did a bunch of stuff in the draft,
and we all went, that's weird.
And they ended up having a really good draft.
I mean, they got Hunter Renfro.
They got Hunter Renfro in the fifth round.
They got a pass rusher in the fourth round that had a bunch of sacks.
So, I mean, again, we don't know who did well in the draft.
I tend to on Mondays after the draft.
I rate the 10 best drafts, and I include free agency and the draft.
And I predict that I think Miami's going to do really well because they have so much salary cap to play with.
They did in free agency, and they got so much draft capital.
Jimmy Johnson's going to be on Fox football now Monday at 11 Eastern on FS1.
So let me just start with this.
You used to coach the Cowboys.
They have a lot of needs, most of them defensively.
but they go and get a wide receiver, a very, very good wide receiver.
Did that bother you at all, Jimmy?
No, it just looked like they're going to try to outscore people.
Obviously, they needed some defensive help.
But, you know, with C.D. Lamb, you know, he is really an outstanding player,
a spectacular player.
And they had been following him for quite some time.
And so when he came available, I'm sure they jumped on it and bypassed the defensive
player. Jimmy, could I make an argument that with the rules now in place over the last two to three
drafts, the players that have been drafted and surprised us were much better than we thought and
better early, it's been a lot of Lamar Jackson's, it's been Josh Allen's, it's been Josh Jacobs,
it's been offensive guys, that the rules now dictate if you can go either way, you maybe want to
lean offense and maybe it's just an offensive league. Could I make that argument for Dallas?
I think it has gone that way, Colin, really for the last few years because of the real changes.
Back in the old day, you know, run the football, play great defense, you know, don't give up a lot of points.
Don't turn it over.
But we've seen some teams extremely successful the last few years that were marginal on defense and didn't run the ball a whole lot.
and threw it all over the field and scored a lot of points.
And so I think because the real changes, you know, you're probably right in that, you know,
you've got to be offensively minded, you know, to win in this league.
And the number one thing, actually one thing that hasn't changed, Bill Belichick was on my boat a few years ago.
And he said, we were talking about the players.
And I said, with these real changes, I said, you know, I've always said, you know, the quarterback
is the guy.
I said, you know, but you know who the second most important guy is?
He said, no, yeah.
I said, you know, the second most important guy is your backup quarterback.
So it goes quarterback, quarterback, quarterback.
It is a quarterback-driven league.
If you've got a franchise quarterback, a guy that can make plays,
then you can kind of support him with some of those receivers and, you know,
with a running back, et cetera, et cetera, but you've got to have the quarterback.
You know, so Greenback,
has needs. They need offensive line. I thought last year was a little shaky. They need another
wide receiver. I still think defensively, they have some needs, and they get a backup quarterback.
What bothered me, Jimmy, how does it land with Aaron Rogers? I mean, I think he's comfortable
in his position. I actually, I don't dislike the move because, you know, they saw an opportunity
to get a quarterback that they are very high on and let him develop.
And this, you know, the receivers that, you know, that they might need, you know, they can
pick them up in the second and third round.
This is a deep, you know, draft as far as receivers.
And so, you know, I'm sure they're looking at some receivers in the second and third round.
Yeah.
And you think, Aaron, I mean, we know Brady didn't love Garoppolo hovering over him.
It's one of those things as a coach.
You know, you would have drafted somebody behind Aikman if you thought he was a steal.
Well, I did.
I did Steve Walsh.
And so now that caused a little bit of tension with Troy.
But I don't think it's going to cause any kind of tension with Aaron Rogers.
Aaron Rogers obviously is an extremely, as you know, confident individual with a big ego.
And so I don't think he's going to be threatened by some rookie.
Now, by the way, did you approach Jimmy Johnson, the Hall of Fame coach,
did you approach each round differently because you were a master at this stuff?
Yeah, you know what I did, Colin, is I identified three or four players in each round
that I wanted to target and I wanted to get.
And obviously, if one of those two or three players weren't picked in the previous round,
I dropped them to the top of the next round.
But I had a handful of players that I wanted to coach.
And coaches that have come down and visited with me over the years,
they say that's one of the best things.
It says, you know, because some players are going to be successful in our system
that might not be successful in a different system.
By the same token, there's some great players on other teams that we don't want.
And so you've got to identify, you know, who fits into your system,
who fits into your culture.
And really, you know, obviously you scout, you know,
all these, you know, five or six hundred players.
But then you narrow it down and you pick about 15 players
that you want to come out with seven or eight of those players out of this draft.
Yeah.
Jimmy Johnson joining us.
So, you know, character issues we always hear about, right?
and where do you fall?
The Raiders got a corner.
Earlier, Peter Schrager said a couple of teams
took the Ohio State corner off the board.
They had character issues.
Iowa's understood teams take injury.
They have injury flag guys.
You just take off your board.
Jimmy, what if you love a player?
And he was a little bit of a jerk in college to teammates.
How do you land on that stuff?
I think you've got to know him.
And, you know, like for me,
I always graded my scouts and I graded my coaches on how they
how they evaluated players.
I had one particular scout that, hey, if he was jaywalking,
he was going to cross him off the board.
And by the same token, I had some coaches.
The guy could have been a serial killer, and he said, hey, let's take a chance.
So you have to know your scouts.
You have to know your coaches and their evaluation.
But more than anything else, you've got to know the player.
You've got the, you know, they're going to.
going to be some players that have had some transgressions that have made some mistakes early
in their career, maybe in high school, that you're going to say, hey, I can understand that,
you know. And so you've got to know what the character issue is. Now, is he a bad person? Is he
going to be a bad team player? Is he going to take away from the team concept? Well, then, hey,
then you move away from him. But if he had, if he made a mistake and he, he's, he's,
He's overcome it, and he's a good person.
You know, you take a chance on him.
Jimmy Johnson joining us two Super Bowl championships,
a college football national title in 1987,
just an all-time great coach this past year
inducted emotionally into the Hall of Fame,
and we all witnessed that.
So Belichick has lost several good players, hasn't replaced him.
Gronk leaves.
He could have gotten a tight end from Tampa.
They got three.
He took a pick.
He's accumulating a stockpocket.
of 25 picks in the next two years,
and he could have had Teddy Bridgewater,
he could have had tight ends from Tampa.
Boy, Jimmy, I don't mean to be cynical,
but it looks like he's stockpiling picks
for a big move, maybe for a college quarterback in a year?
Well, I don't know.
I know what you're thinking in the year.
I don't know if he's going to be able.
He's not going to have bad enough record to get that player.
But what if he has enough picks,
to move up.
And he gives somebody nine picks, Jimmy.
It's going to be interesting to see how Stidham does.
It's going to be interesting to see if he picks up a veteran quarterback, which could happen.
But, you know, the thing about it, he's got some players that he's identified that he's going to be able to pick up in the second and third round.
And really, you know, some of those second and third rounders turn out to be, you know, really spectacular.
players. And players that fit into his system, it'll be interesting to see. I do believe this.
I think the AFC East now it's wide open. With Brady out and with, you might say, New England
rebuilding a little bit, and with Buffalo, with their resurgence, with the dolphins, they should
be a lot better. It's going to be an interesting division. Yeah, I kind of like what Brian
Flores is doing. I mean, you have, you live in the Keys. I got to tell you, I watch Brian Flores,
Jimmy, and he's, first of all, he got rid of some expensive guys. He got a veteran quarterback who's
a smart guy competes. They accumulate draft picks. They spend a lot of draft capital on cornerbacks,
which I know you liked him, and I know Belichick does. So it looks like to me, when I look at Miami,
Jimmy, they didn't have to trade any picks to get their quarterback. It feels like they're
pretty close that you know, you know, guys like you and Parcells, you turn stuff around in 18 months.
I think Miami's closer than people think to being really competitive, Jimmy.
I agree with you, Colin.
I look at the way they played with, you know, without their best defensive back, you know, they're at the end of the year.
You know, with just a makeshift football team, I look at the way they played at the end of the year.
and you add the players that they have added this offseason and through the draft,
they're going to be a competitive team.
I mean, it's going to be interesting just to see.
It's going to be interesting to see how quick he jumps into the lineup.
Would you be worried to play him early, coach, with that hip?
Yeah, I would be, I'd be concerned.
And plus, you know, with old Fitzmagic, you know, you never can tell.
He'll love to make some things happen there early.
I do believe this.
he will be a great mentor, you know, for Tua.
I mean, to have him, I mean, everybody, you know,
he's one of the smartest, not only players, but individuals walking.
And he will be a great, great mentor for Tua.
Yeah.
I wonder, would you keep Fitzpatrick around for a second year just to be a mentor?
Good, you know, and with Chan Gaylee, Chan, you know,
has worked with him before, so he knows the system, you know,
They're on the same page.
I think that's a good matchup, you know, with, you know, Fitzpatrick and with Chan Galey and now with Tua coming on.
Well, you know, Terry Bradshaw came on yesterday and he had a song for us, so I don't expect you to.
He has played that song 15 times in my ear.
We don't expect you to have a song, although you're a fisherman.
Have you gone out fishing yet today?
Not today, but I will.
probably in the next couple days.
With this social isolation, you know, and social distance,
I can really have my distance from people about 20 miles offshore.
Hey, one more.
So you basically ran your draft and were a personnel expert.
But I've got this theory that when Tom went down to Tampa and he talked to Jason
light, I don't think it would be out of bounds for Tom to say,
listen, I'm 43.
I don't want to get the you-know-what kicked out of me.
you've got to address that old line and that he could say, Jason, can you look old line first pick?
Because, by the way, they moved up and got the best right tackle available.
Is that the way? Do you think that's possible that Brady told them, listen, I would come here,
but I'm worried about your own line. Would that be possible?
I think with that question, you know, actually Jason worked for me.
He was one of my scouts when I was with Miami Dolphins.
And, you know, I've visited with him two or three different times.
There's no question.
He's the type of individual that would take suggestions, you know, from Tom Brady.
You know, really, you know, Tom's more experienced than half the coaches in this league.
And so, you know, you ought to use some of that knowledge.
Jimmy, you know, I just love having you on.
You're a busy guy.
And I just, you're so kind to our show and I appreciate it.
Well, Colin, I will leave you with this.
Little quarantine magic.
Little quarantine crazy?
Quarantine crazy.
You know, he got that from Tammy.
Tammy says, boy, this is quarantine crazy.
Terry says, man, that sounds like a song.
Let me put some words to it.
He did.
And he did a good job.
Good talking to you, coach.
All right, Colin.
Okay, have a good day.

You know, it's interesting about Green Bay taking Jordan Love. You know, what you want to do when
you take a first round quarterback, what you really want to do is you want to take him and try to
play him early because you don't have to pay him for like three and four years. So you're getting
basically a really inexpensive player like Baker Mayfield right now, even his number one pick.
So Cleveland can go out and really roll the dice on some free agents because you don't pay
your quarterback much. The downside of Jordan Love is you pick him in the first round. He's cheap,
but he doesn't play. So it's not really helping you. You want to have, that's why you want to get
Justin Herbert. Ideally, you'd like to get him in by like week 10.
Like, let's get five or six games in him.
Let's see if he can play because we're not paying him anything.
You know, it used to be the collective bargaining agreement had to be changed
because you'd pay these first round quarterback so much.
You don't anymore.
So when you get a Jared Gough or you get a Darnold or a Baker Mayfield or a Lamar,
these teams can go heavy on free agency because they don't pay the quarterback.
Well, with Jordan Love, you're not getting the playing part.
You're just getting the sitting part.
And I think Green Bay, you know, I was reading something recently in the Harvard Business Review.
They talked about, you know, obviously we see the headlines.
They're very dramatic all the time when you take too many risks.
But what doesn't make the headlines, what's not as sudden or as dramatic or as obvious,
is people that are very conservative, companies that are very, you know, conservative.
Those are the silent killers when a company's too conservative.
So Green Bay is a really conservative company.
They don't spend big money on free agents.
They don't like taking high-risk character guys.
They haven't drafted a wide receiver in the first round in 18 years.
flashy wide receivers.
They draft the quarterback who has no chance of playing because they just want to make sure they put money in their 401K for the future and they're safe.
But I don't think they're doing a big favor helping their team now.
And Aaron Rogers played San Francisco twice and he needs help now.
And, you know, the conservative has its advantages.
I tend to lean in business more conservative than risky.
But don't kid yourself.
Just because it's not as obvious, there are dangers in always being conservative.
I mean, Minnesota traded Stefan Diggs.
That's risky.
That's a big swing.
You know, I mean, they took a chance on it.
So, I mean, Chicago in your division, big chance.
Bring in Nick Foles.
Green Bay doesn't play that way.
Thank God they got Aaron Rogers and Brett Farr to be the makeup on some of the warts and some of the blemishes.
By the way, have you heard about our friends at Lowe's and the Red Best Associates
been so supportive during this pandemic?
they are stepping up in crisis all over the country.
Heartfelt thanks to Lowe's Red Vest Associates,
supporting their communities when we need them most.
Loz, here's Joy with the News.
No, no, no, no, turn on the news.
This is the Herd Line News,
sponsored by Liberty Mutual Insurance,
only pay for what you need.
Well, Isaiah Simmons was still available
when the Cardinals were picking on the clock
with the eighth pick,
and GM Steve Kime says selecting Simmons
was a no-brainer.
Then you watch him on tape and you see him play the deep middle, the deep half,
you see him play in the box, you see him blitz, rush the passer.
He's sort of a Swiss Army knife and does it all.
And we call that kind of a player and a racer in this league.
I felt like it was a pretty easy decision.
Yeah.
Well.
They've gotten some positionless players before.
Arizona likes, like they've historically, they go after the athlete.
I think I say that Simmons is going to be great in this league.
Yeah.
I'm just kind of surprised they didn't go with.
offensive lineman.
Yeah, I mean, it's very possible that the two they liked were gone.
Let's see where Arizona went.
Let's see right here.
Eighth.
I don't know.
I mean, it's a legitimate because it was funny because I'm a Sam Darnold fan.
And so when Arizona went defense, I thought, oh, good, the Jets will get a tackle.
You know, it's so it was interesting because if they take a tackle, does it change the way the Jets feel?
And the Jets may be like, okay, we're not taking our fifth favorite tackle.
So, you know, everything's a little domino effect here.
I can see them saying Isaiah Simmons in a division with Russell Wilson and Kyle Shanahan's coaching that we just, you got George Kiddling that division.
You got Russell Wilson.
Isaiah Simmons is the kind of guy, Joy, he can defend both.
And maybe that's part of it.
No, I mean, it's not that it's an edgy pick.
Isaiah Simmons is a great player.
I just thought for sure they were going offensive line.
But the things that I thought for sure, like that Jerry Judy would be the first wide receiver picks and that Arizona would go offensive line didn't have.
There weren't a whole lot of big shocks other than obviously Jordan Love in the draft last night, but this was one that kind of surprised me.
A great move last night, though, was the Chiefs closing out the first round by selecting the first running back of the draft, LSU's Clyde Edwards Halleer.
He was a huge part of LSU's title run last season, rushing for 1,414 yards and 16 touchdowns.
He also set the school record for receptions by a running back with 55.
The Chiefs were 23rd in rushing in 2019, averaging 98.1 yards per game rushing.
They also have Damien Williams and Darwin Thompson.
I absolutely love this move for Kansas City.
Before I had heard what Peter Schroger said on the show earlier, I loved it, and now I love it even more.
One, that this was the guy that Patrick Mahomes wanted.
But also, Clyde Edwards-Hillard is just a very dynamic player.
He's very shifty, fast.
I love the receptions element of it.
So he's very, he's, you know, multifaceted in that regard, not just the running back.
I love this move for the Chiefs.
Yeah, and I think, you know, he's a classic example.
Anytime a running back is a pass catcher and he is.
Right.
And you give them to a Shanahan or a McVeigh or you give them to a Sean Payton or an Andy Reed.
They're not just a running back.
They're just a weapon.
Christian McCaffrey is not just a running back.
So he's a very good pass catcher.
He just had an NFL coach last year that, you know, Joe Brady in LSU.
So he gets some pro concepts.
LSU was doing some pro concepts.
So, you know, he's going to the rich get richer.
Yeah, absolutely.
Finally, with their second pick in the first round, the 49ers moved up to draft
wide receiver of Brandon Ayuk.
They traded three picks to move up from 31 to 25 to get him.
And even though he was the sixth receiver taken last night, he was always high on the 49ers
board.
Kyle Shanahan said that if their pick at 14,
Javon Kinla had been gone.
They would have considered taking Ayuk there instead.
Again, rich get richer.
I like this move for the Niners as well.
He had 65 catches, 1,192 yards, and eight touchdowns last year.
So, I mean, I felt like the teams that were already good found pieces that are already
complementing what they do, like the Chiefs and the 49ers.
And teams that needed a lot, like the Dolphins.
loaded up and the fact of the dolphins didn't have to move
or give up any of their draft picks to get their guys.
I really felt like overall it was a very solid first round.
Like I didn't feel like there was anything that stuck out that was dramatic.
I feel like people feel like that way about the Cowboys,
but I don't even feel that way.
Yeah, I thought the Raiders reached a little bit on their corner.
I didn't love that, but everybody else, I mean, I thought it was entertaining.
Raiders are kind of doing their own.
thing, but other than that, people
got better. I mean, Miami got better.
Chargers got a franchise
quarterback, and then Kenneth Murray's, I
hit and blow people up, linebacker.
And by the way, the Chargers
are one of these teams, and there's about three or four
in the league like Baltimore now, you don't need
all your draft picks. If you find a kid that
can walk in and start like Kenneth Murray, the linebacker,
give up picks.
There's not, they had seven picks.
There's not seven guys in this draft that can start for the
Chargers. Right. So just give up a couple
and go get a linebacker that will play day
won. And so I thought people
did a good job. I really did.
Yeah. And the broadcast was great. Yeah. Really
exceptional. Joy with the news.
Well, that's the news. And thanks for stopping by.
The Heard Lye News.
Like there are some things in sports
that are really fun to argue about.
But some people just want to argue
to argue. Like Wayne Gretzky is the best
hockey player ever. Don't waste
my time. I'm not interested
in you arguing to argue.
You know, Bill Belichick.
He's the best NFL coach ever.
Boy, if he's not, he's top three.
Lombardi's up there.
You know, there's not a lot of arguments.
Bill Walsh, I mean, it's Bill Walsh, Lombardi, Belichick.
Let's just stop arguing.
Brady now is the most accomplished quarterback of all time.
There's another one of these things, and maybe because fans,
college fans are more tribal or something,
the SEC is the best conference in college football,
and it's not really close.
Last night, they set a record.
15 first-round picks, almost half.
Half the draft was SEC.
Six of the top 10 players never happened before.
Folks, it's not hard.
This is why I follow college football recruiting.
Of all the independent colleges in the country, which one's the best team?
Notre Dame.
Why?
Because they recruit better players than Navy and BYU.
Who dominates over the last 20 years, mostly dominates Big Ten recruiting.
Mostly.
Ohio State.
They got the most national championships, right?
Last 30 years.
Oklahoma, first or second in recruiting, dominates the Big 12.
Clemson dominates recruiting over the last seven years in the ACC dominant program.
SEC, Bama, Georgia, LSU, dominate recruiting.
Those are your three best.
If you look at the last 50 years, 60 years in the PAC 12, Pac 10, used to be PAC 8,
who has the most national championships?
USC.
They usually over the course of a five or six year period.
You know, they've had down years and up years.
they have the best most NFL players.
I don't know why fans argue about this.
The SEC is the best conference.
They have the best players.
I don't think they have the best coaches.
I think it's a very college-feeling conference.
I always think, like the PAC 12 tends to be more innovative with their coaches.
The Big Ten right now, I think, has unbelievable coaching
with some of the guys they have in that conference.
But the SEC has easily the best players.
Half the first round.
and they dominate recruiting. Go to Rivals.com. Go to scout.com. Go to 24-7. Go to ESPNU. Go to all the
recruiting services, top 12 classes. It's probably going to be seven SEC. Why do you argue? Even the best
independent program in the country, Notre Dame. Why? Because Brian Kelly's a very good recruiter.
Brian Kelly, this is the reason Notre Dame's good now again, because Brian Kelly's the best recruiting
coach they've had in 20 years. Lou Holtz was the last great recruiter. Brian Kelly is a great
recruiter. That's why they're now in 10 and 11 games. It's not complimented,
complicated. It's not worth arguing about. Justin Herbert.
How about that? The Oregon Duck is now at L.A. Charger. He's next.

So good to have you in.
I watched Justin Herbert, drafted number six by the Chargers,
a lot at Oregon because I used to work for KGW,
a great radio station up there.
and he went to Sheldon High and Eugene kid.
And it was funny, I went to a dinner with Tom Telesco about a month ago,
and we were talking quarterbacks.
And Tom wouldn't tell me anything, but he's pretty smart.
And I said, you know, everybody tells me this Justin Herbert kid.
You know, he doesn't do much off script.
And I'm like, I watched them against Wisconsin's defense.
And that defense is great.
And he was making guys miss in the open field.
I'm like, I've watched this kid for three years.
Don't tell me he's not an athlete.
He made badger linebackers miss on the open field.
So I couldn't be happier.
I think, and I've been saying this.
I think the kid's special.
Oregon's had a lot of good quarterbacks.
This kid, to me, is the best one I've seen the last 20 years in the program,
and he's joining us now.
All right, Justin, first of all, did you have any idea, you know, 10 minutes before you get the call,
that you could be a charger?
First off, it's great to be here.
Thank you for having me.
You bet.
I had no idea.
I was sitting there with my family, and it wasn't until the name, Tom Telasco,
popped up on my phone where I knew it was happening.
And so was really cool and what a great opportunity.
Yeah.
So, you know, there are some pre-draft criticisms.
I mean, if I was your age and people were saying,
that coward can't do this and he can't do that, I'd be like, geez, this is not great.
Did it bother you at all?
No, I've done a great job of kind of staying away from that stuff
and filtering out what's important and what's not.
And I know what I've got to improve on, and there's plenty of it.
So what I'm focusing on is footwork and mechanics and things that I can fix.
and I'm going to do my best to be the best quarterback I can be,
and there's not much else I can ask for.
Now, you've had three different head coaches.
Do you think that could potentially, Justin, be an advantage?
I think it could be.
I think going through so many different programs,
so many different offenses, I've been able to pick up things pretty quickly,
and I've been through it before, so it hasn't been surprising to me.
And I know the guys that we had at Oregon were pretty tough,
and we fought through a lot to make it out on the other side
after going four and eight our freshman year,
Yeah.
It was really something special.
When you're a young quarterback, when I covered Oregon, they had Joey Harrington.
And he was not as big as you, didn't have the arm.
But Joey was a terrific player.
Are there quarterbacks, even in the NFL today, Justin, that you model yourself after or you watch and you see yourself a little bit in them?
Yeah, there's a lot of guys that we ended up watching at Oregon.
A guy like Matt Ryan, we watched a lot of his footwork, his play acting types.
stuff the way he moved around in the pocket and then Drew Brees and Tom Brady both those guys
have flawless mechanics so we've been watching a lot of them trying to emulate a lot of their
stuff. T.J. Hushmanzada is a good friend of mine and I just think the world of him and he thinks
the world of you. What are a few little gems, some wisdom? Because he's a really sharp cat.
Some of the little gems he said, hey, hey, get ready for this, get ready for this, get ready for
this. What's some of his wisdom? One of the best things he told me was,
just not to worry, just go out there and play football.
And at the end of the day, it's just going out there and being relaxed, being cool,
and throwing the ball around.
And he said, you know what?
He's like, Justin, you've got a great arm and you can do all this stuff.
Just go out there and be yourself.
Go play.
Don't worry about anything.
Just go have fun.
And I thought that was really cool.
Another Pac-12 quarterback I really like is Sam Darnold, and you guys have something in common.
Both of you come from a family of athletes.
At what point, Justin, because you were very, very talented.
but your whole family was talented.
Was there a moment for you?
And maybe it's your freshman or sophomore year, Justin.
Take your time on this that you thought to yourself,
I think I can play pro football.
It might have been maybe late my freshman year in fall camp.
I remember coming in and thinking,
growing up in Eugene, I didn't really have expectations of starting right away
or even playing a whole lot early on.
So I came in as a six-th-threen quarterback
back and thought, you know what, I'm going to do my best.
I'm going to get the playbook down, and hopefully I'll play one day.
But the coach, Stap me down and said, Justin, you're our second guy.
You're going to get some reps with the ones.
And right then it kind of hit me and I kind of realized what I'd been doing.
And that was really a really shocking experience and really fun to go through.
You had a great senior bowl week.
And I think one of the criticisms I hear is Justin doesn't, you know, he doesn't do stuff off script.
And one of the ways I've defended you, I've said, first of all,
Mario Cristobal is an offensive line guy like a Les Miles.
He has a running game.
And he's going to worry about the running game.
It's a be a power running game with Mario.
And I did think they were a little conservative sometimes with you during the season.
But then I watched the Rose Bowl, Justin.
And they really took the reins off you.
They let you run.
And I thought it was great for you because it really showcased the athlete you are.
And I think you're a way better athlete than people think.
Was there a specific game plan for Wisconsin in the Rose Bowl when your coaching staff thought,
hell, this is the last game we're going to have this kid.
Let's just let the reins off a little bit.
I think it might have been a little bit of that.
I think especially the last two games, Utah and the Pactiol Championship in Wisconsin,
just the way their defensive ends played.
We thought these read concepts, these zone read type deal would give us an advantage.
And they kind of let us run a little bit more.
And it worked out.
And I think in both games, it helped us quite a bit.
So you go from Oregon, which is a big time program.
You play Otton Stadium is first or second loudest stadium I've ever been in.
You play big games and TV games, the Auburn games.
And now you go to the NFL.
And as a star quarterback, now you're the kid, right?
And I think to myself, will it be tough with all, you know, the last three years, Justin, every day you're walking or, you know, jogging or driving to practice?
You're the starter.
That's not guaranteed this morning.
Is that okay with you?
How does it sit with you?
It's a great opportunity.
It's a wonderful opportunity for me to go play football and to learn to be better,
to be the best quarterback teammate friend that I can be.
It's just incredible that they believe in me, just like I believe in myself.
I'm thrilled for the opportunity and can't wait to get down there and just do everything I can to be the best I can be.
You're a biology major, and, you know, I don't know much about biology.
I'm a talk show host.
I'm not that smart.
You're a four-point.
So give me a little background here.
Why did you choose biology?
Yeah, so my grandparents, one was a biology teacher,
and then my father ended up becoming a biology teacher as well.
And just kind of always was surrounded by it.
And when I went to college, I wanted to study something that I was interested in.
And I knew that biology was one of those things.
So going to class wasn't too bad for me and ended up kind of enjoying school a little bit.
Were you the only biology major on the football team?
There were a couple other science majors.
I think it might have been the only actual biology one, though, yeah.
Any experiments on your teammates?
A couple.
I had guys, I tested their blood pressure when we got in the cold tubs,
and so I had a couple lab rats in the team get in there for me.
Justin, how would you describe your game?
Now, obviously, you watched the draft.
It just must be surreal, is that you're watching.
watching yourself getting picked and you're watching cut of your highlights that most of us don't do our jobs and then watch ourselves do our jobs.
How would you describe your game to somebody that never seen you play?
Yeah, I would say that. I want to put the team in the best position to win.
I pride myself on preparation.
I want to take control of the line of scrimmage and get the ball to the guys that really make the plays.
And I think when things break down, I have the ability to kind of scramble out and run and make something happen.
but I think my first job is getting the ball to those guys that make everything happen.
When you have a great arm and you do, a lot of quarterbacks with great arms,
Joe Namath, John Elway, through interceptions, Brett Fav.
You don't throw a lot of interceptions despite your great arm.
Are there moments, though, that you really want to let it rip?
And what says don't?
Oh, there's especially been some times where a play breaks down and I kind of sit back
and I throw it late over the middle and thought I could get away within my arm.
And at the next level, that's not going to work.
So times where I just have to either throw out of bounds, take off, or hit a checkdown
is something that I've been working on.
Has it been hard to do that because you have the arm strength?
I've always wanted to chuck the downfield.
I love throwing the ball.
So deep down, I'd love to just keep throwing it.
But what's best of the team is probably just taking our losses and cutting them at that time.
Yeah.
Hey, good luck to you.
your family, Sheldon High, Eugene, Oregon, a duck.
You're just a terrific kid, and I think you're going to be a star,
and you're inheriting a really smart GM and a really good roster.
And I live down in L.A., and I used to live in Portland.
Believe me, it doesn't rain as much, and not everybody here is a movie star.
It's really quiet most of the time, and I think you'll love it.
That's awesome.
I really appreciate that.
All right, Justin, good luck to you.
Thank you.
You bet.
A biology major, four-point student.
You know, all the quarterbacks were different.
Joe Burrow is at a powerhouse.
Two is the smaller guy that had an injury.
Herbert's up in the Northwest with a cannon arm.
Jordan loves at the small school that's kind of a project.
I mean, it was four different quarterbacks.
We really got four.
Herbert's been playing for years, two or for years.
Joe Burrow popped late.
Jordan Love was great as a sophomore, not as a junior.
So you're getting all these different quarterbacks and all these different young men.
Can't wait for it.
Coming up, Tyler Dunn wrote that story.
story about Aaron Rogers that was critical.
What does he think Aaron's thinking today about Jordan Love being a first round pick?
During the draft, we recognize hard work Lowe's and their red vest associates have been
supporting their communities during the crisis.
We thank them for that very important time.
Thanks to Lowe's Red Vest Associates.

Hour number three, live in Los Angeles.
This is The Heard, wherever you may be, however you may be listening,
IHeart Radio, Fox Sports Radio, and FS1.
Tyler Dunn wrote that Aaron Rogers Bleacher Report article that was critical of him,
multi-sourced.
Aaron was ticked and said it's just all blah, blah, blah.
we're interested to see his opinion on the Green Bay Packers drafting Jordan Love in the first round
doesn't address any other wide receivers offensive liner linebacker needs they also gave up a fourth
round pick it feels very Green Bay very conservative very put your money in a 401k but I see
aggressive teams like Philadelphia in the Rams and the 49ers you know I just don't think
I don't think he loved it listen I don't think
You can be mature and get and be sensitive.
You can be mature and get your feelings hurt, or you can be mature and be pissed.
If I was Aaron Rogers today, I'd be like, okay, I played San Francisco twice.
They boxed my ears.
Not yours.
Not yours, Mr. GM.
My ears twice.
Down 23-0-0 at half, 27-0 at half.
And we don't address that.
In fact, we give up a fourth and of first, two potential players that can help us for my backup.
Yeah, I wouldn't love it.
You know, organizations are always about, yeah, we're building for the future.
I'm not interested in the future.
I used to work in a company.
I'll never forget this.
You remember this, Goulet.
And I worked at this company, Joy Taylor.
And this company, to me, said one time, they took, like, Goulet off my board and a couple of my
rode a good producers off the board because they said, it's what management said.
We want to build depth.
And I said, depth is a you problem.
That's not my problem.
I want the best producers because I'm your best radio guy.
I don't care about depth.
I don't care.
I don't care about good producers.
Producing my show.
And so I would scream at management.
Aaron Rogers is sitting there thinking, I don't care about depth at quarterback.
I care about playmakers.
Now, Jimmy Johnson was on today.
He wasn't bothered by the move.
This is Jimmy Johnson.
I think he's comfortable in his position.
I don't dislike the move.
They saw an opportunity to get a quarterback that they are very high on and let him develop.
You know, the receivers that they might need, you know, they can pick them up in the second and third round.
This is a deep, you know, draft as far as receivers.
But I don't think it's going to cause any kind of tension with Aaron Rogers.
Aaron Rogers obviously is an extremely confident individual with a big,
ego. And so I don't think he's going to be threatened by some rookie. By the way, the ego is why
I think he'll be threatened. Listen, Tom Brady's got six rings. He didn't like Jimmy Garoppolo around.
He didn't like him there. He told Kraft, get him out of town. Troy Aikman was bothered, as Jimmy
admitted during the interview, when Jimmy went out and drafted, was it Craig Walsh? Steve Walsh. My bad,
Steve Walsh. Troy Aikman. I mean, good-looking, great, Super Bowl. He didn't like it.
So I think the, I'm not a psychologist, but I think the ego is why it bothers you.
You ever watch these shows like Bachelor? You ever watch the shows like Bachelor?
And the guys with the biggest egos when the show is over are always the biggest train wreck.
They're always, I saw a guy the other day I'm reading TMZ and the Chad guy. He had a big ego a couple years ago.
He's doing porn now. He's a mess.
Whenever you see big ego, that's major insecurity.
And I think Aaron does have, you know, I think he does have some ego.
That's fine.
I want my quarterback to have some ego.
But I think that, to me, is kind of why it wouldn't sit well.
I'm not blaming Aaron.
I'm not.
Listen, I'm defending Aaron here.
I don't think I'd be in the greatest mood had I get in.
I went out twice against San Francisco and got thrown around like a rag doll.
And I watched San Francisco, who I met in the NFC championship.
draft a great receiver and a great defensive lineman.
And I'm like, hello!
We're at a talent deficit.
I think they're at a talent deficit in Green Bay,
in Minnesota. Minnesota wasn't got two great players in the first round.
And they have two third round picks and a second round pick.
So I don't know.
I mean, you can be a good person and you can be confident and secure
and a little ticked off.
A little bit?
A little bit?
I don't think it's good.
I don't.
I mean, Joy, you've been around men.
You had a brother that was great.
You know, here's the other thing, Joy.
Quarterback is the only position.
There's just one, right?
Like, you can have two defensive ends, two great linebackers, two great corners, four great receivers.
That's understood.
But if you have a franchise quarterback, you shouldn't have a second franchise quarterback for long.
So at some point, Joy, in this little two-to-three-year marriage here,
Jordan Love is going to be good enough to play.
I mean, this could be at the end of, let's say this year he's not.
And the following year, he's not.
But the following year, you're watching him in practice and you're like,
damn, he's bigger than Aaron with a better arm.
Or more athletic.
He's never had the collarbone surgeries.
If it's not an issue now, end of next year,
you don't think Brett Farve had a terrible year.
One of his worst years is a Packer, the year they're
drafted Aaron Rogers. Go look it out.
It's in your head.
Brett was a great quarterback. They draft Aaron Rogers.
He had a bad year.
I mean, the stories are legendary.
That Farve was tough on Aaron Rogers.
Why? I mean, we think Brett Farve's good-looking.
He's a legend. Everybody loves him.
A little insecurity with a new kid.
He's from Cal Berkeley. He's pretty smart.
He's got an arm. He's California cool.
And he's kind of zinging you in team meetings.
A little bit of insecurity there.
They went four in 12.
12, 20 TD's, 29 picks, the year they went and got Rogers.
You don't think there's a little, little something?
The Packers were a good team last year.
13 and 3.
That's not, that's not even a comparison, the situation.
I mean, we're drawing that comparison because it's Green Bay and it's Aaron Rogers and Brett
Fav, but some people didn't even have Jordan Love going in the second round.
It's way too high to take the quarterback.
When Aaron Rogers is still playing the way that he is, it's just too high.
So here's another story.
Let me look here at the first round.
Oh, look at that team and that team.
It's funny.
I can't...
Wait, wait.
Where's New England?
I know New England started the night with the first round pick.
Hold on a second.
Let me double check.
Minnesota, L.A., New Orleans, Green Bay.
Where's New England?
I am almost sure.
Oh, I am.
had a first-round pick when the night started and they traded out of it.
Isn't that fascinating?
So they have all sorts of needs.
They didn't address any in free agency.
They traded gronk.
Tampa Bay has three tight ends now.
They didn't want one of them.
Just give us picks.
They lost their kicker, the two best linebackers, Kyle Van Nuoy.
This losing people.
Tom Brady.
they've never addressed any of those.
That's so interesting as their division gets better.
They're accumulating draft picks.
Got a pick for Gronk, not a player.
Not addressed one of their needs.
And they traded out of the first round last night.
I told you yesterday.
So you know my theory on this.
They're not tanking.
Some of you dollars can't get this past.
It's not tanking.
Miami was pissed when people said they were tanking this year.
They're not.
They're competing.
But Bill Belichick is moving a lot of players out and getting picks, so they go seven and nine, six and ten.
They have the eighth pick.
And the truth is in this league, if you just do basic homework, Joy and I have talked about this.
After since he got Burrough, Miami got Tua, the Chargers get Justin Herbert.
That's three more teams that don't need a franchise quarterback.
Green Bay's even got their backup.
I think the Colts are going to take Jacob Eason today.
They got their guy.
The truth is the bottom four or five teams in the league next year outside of Jacksonville don't need a quarterback.
They don't.
They don't.
So my point is, if you're six and ten or seven and nine and have the seventh pick,
they're going to have, right now, New England has 13 picks this year and 10 minimum next year.
Watch them move some of their picks this year to next year.
Watch them do it.
Watch them do it.
What are they doing?
It's obvious.
It's not tank.
They're going to have 15 picks next year.
They already have 10, counting the compensatory picks for Brady, Jamie Collins, and Van Nuoy.
And they're going to go to a team and say, here's eight picks.
You can move up in the draft if you're willing to give a bad team eight picks.
I think the New York Giants are going to be a bad team this year.
New coach, young quarterback.
But they're not going to draft the quarterback.
You go to the New York Giants and say, here, seven picks.
You don't think Joe Judge, a friend of Belichick, wouldn't take seven picks in a rebuild,
building job? Of course he would. Think about a
take Jacksonville out. They're bad and need a quarterback. I think Cincinnati's going to be
bad this year. One year old coach in a new quarterback tough division. Cincinnati ends up
five and eleven. You don't think in a rebuilding mode, Zach Taylor wouldn't go to his GM.
They're offering eight picks. They don't need a quarterback. They got burrow.
So if you start looking at the teams next year, I think could be, I think Arizona could
struggle in that division. Don't need a quarterback. Cincinnati could struggle. Don't need a
quarterback. New York Giants struggle. Don't need a quarterback. You start looking at the teams
that could struggle next year. Tennis, no, Tennessee will be good. Jacksonville, they need
a quarterback. You don't have to just get Trevor Lawrence. You could get Justin Fields. But it seems
to me we're seeing things now that New England's never done. They haven't addressed a single need
in free agency. They are desperate for a tight end. Last night, they're in a spot to get a tight end.
Now, let's trade out of it.
Okay, we'll take Gronk.
Have him.
Give us a pick.
You want one of ours?
No, just picks.
Really?
Really?
When somebody's done something their whole life and then they stop doing it, aren't you a little suspicious?
Be honest to me, guys.
Let's say you were married.
She comes home from work every night.
Oh, once, twice a month.
She'll go out with a girlfriend and have a glass of wine and a salad.
And then all of a sudden, all of a sudden, she didn't show up one night.
You and the kids are, mom never shows up.
Find out her ex flames in town.
Seem a little weird to you?
Really?
Not suspicious a little?
Where'd my wife go?
Honey, I'm up.
I must stay at work really, really late.
We had to, it's a tax season.
No, it's not.
It's December.
Anywho, I'll be home tomorrow.
When people start doing stuff, they've never done.
Their habits change.
You know, little?
You don't think they have a plan.
Their plans, Jared Stidham.
All right.
You know the old saying,
don't pee on my leg and tell me it's raining.
Come on.
It's not tough to figure out.
All right, Tyler Dunn wrote the article on Aaron Rogers.
It did not sit well.
But when you read the article,
a lot of the people were quoted were actual people,
not just anonymous sources.
What's he thinking today?
Guy covered the Packers for years.
I can see where Aaron's ticked off.
I get it.

Tyler Dunn last time he was on our show.
He was the 2019 recipient of the Hurd Big J Journalism Award.
acknowledging excellence in hard-hitting sports journalism
for the fact that he lives in Wisconsin
and wrote an article, a deep dive on the Packers,
and it wasn't a suck-up job.
And so often in our business,
we see the local radio guy or the local newspaper guy.
It's just Bon Mots and Pat's on the back,
and it's just nauseating.
And he went out and he wrote an article where he got some crap, probably.
And so Tyler Dunn, a feature writer for Bleacher Report,
former Packer Beat Rider for the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel
and covering the NFL for a decade now is joining us.
So when teams draft Tyler, they send messages.
They send messages to the fans.
They tell you what they need and what they are.
What is the message drafting in a sport where the NFC is better than the AFC?
They got clobbered by San Francisco twice.
They have a talent deficit.
What is the message to drafting Jordan Love in the first round?
Anyway, thanks so much for having me back, man.
I really appreciate it.
You bet.
I think the message here is that the Packers are thinking long term.
And, you know, I think the takeaways that Brian Gutikin has some guts, right?
I mean, hey, he's right there in the throes of it.
He was there in 2005, obviously, when they took Aaron Rogers, and they had Brett
Barb, and they were 10 and six to previous two years.
And yet you had the fans booing Ted Thompson at the shareholders meeting.
the Lambeau field. I mean, we've seen this before, and you can't get caught in no man's land.
I think, you know, the worst time to look for a quarterback is when you don't have a quarterback.
You have a quarterback in Aaron Rogers, obvious first ballot hall of famer, one of the best ever,
maybe the best of this generation. He turned 36th in December. He was, you know, 17th and then yards
for pass attempts, like 21st and completion percentage, 12th and pass the rating.
They can bend statistics however you want to bend them, but you could make the case
that he was very, very average last year.
Yeah.
So, hey, I mean, why not?
If you believe in Jordan Love, do you think you can develop this guy?
You did it before?
It's going to light a fire under Aaron Rogers.
Hey, it's a little fire under Brett Barnum in 07 and took him to the NFC championship game.
Rogers has been at his best.
when he's a little peed off, I kind of love to move.
But you point into something interesting.
So McCarthy, Mr. Uncreative, right, leaves.
The young progressive coach comes in, and Aaron's numbers did not elevate.
And I think what you said is potentially the message that inside the room,
they think Aaron's out of his peak, a couple of collarbone surgeries.
and they think there's some slight decline.
That appears to be the message, right?
I mean, you're there.
He didn't look great last year, Tyler.
Right, right.
You know, they obviously made the NFC championship game.
You know, they won a lot of games.
But, you know, when he really watched the Packers
and Brian Guticketts and Matt, before,
they have their pulse on everything there.
They struggled twice against the bad Lions team.
It wasn't necessarily a super tough schedule.
maybe they don't think they're as close
than a lot of other people
thought they were.
And, you know, I think that that was
kind of the case, you know, back in
2005, you know, when Ted Thompson
took Aaron Rogers. That was a winning
team. They were fresh off to playoff
runs. Yeah, Brett Farr,
about a 4,000 yards season, 30
touchdowns then, but, hey, if you've got
conviction, if you believe in somebody, you think that
is your quarterback for the next
10 to 15 years you've got to take. I mean,
there's a reason that the Packers
haven't had quarterback issues since 1991.
They think ahead.
And this is the Packers thinking of the head now.
There's going to be opinions all over the board on,
on Jordan Love, you know, for good reason.
His numbers weren't nearly as good last year as they were two years ago.
But I think Brian Gooden deserves, you know, the benefit of the doubt here.
He's a proven evaluator.
You know, he's made some great moves.
I think that he's actually done a lot for Aaron Rogers.
I know that's a popular opinion today that,
You know, he hasn't had any weapons.
They're not doing anything for him.
They're not signing him anybody.
What the heck?
Well, hey, I remember Aaron Rogers after that week one game, you know, against Chicago,
saying we've got a defense.
They paid up for the Derek Smith.
They paid up with him.
They basically completely changed their defense.
You have maybe the best receiver in the game in Devonty Adams.
You have a top-eye running back in Aaron Jones.
Hey, if Gutifens believes in Jordan Lung, maybe he's right.
Maybe he sees something that a lot of people don't.
You know, Peter Schragger,
is a very good NFL reporter.
He was on earlier and he said,
you know, Green Bay doesn't have an owner.
It is different.
It is different to have the Maverick in the room saying,
okay, we're going for it.
Green Bay has got a different dynamic in their ownership,
fans own the team.
Do you think sometimes that may help you have the less,
you don't have this egocentric maverick who's, you know,
infuriated and nobody can get their arms around him?
But are there times you think lack of an owner?
you know, if there's an owner in the room,
they may be like last night, timeout, time out.
I go fishing with Aaron Rogers.
I've been to concert with Aaron Rogers.
I'm not going to get a backup.
I mean, Robert Kraft got rid of Jimmy Galapolo for,
he got rid of him because Tom Brady wanted him out
and he went to Robert Kraft.
Do you think a lack of an owner potentially
would change stuff like last night?
I think that maybe you're finally seeing that change.
You know, for the longest time,
I mean, the bad blood between quarterback and head coach kind of lingered on and on there in Green Bay.
I mean, it was never good to begin with as Ryan Grant said himself in our story.
And maybe a lack of an owner did play a part in that.
And nobody really stepped in.
That's right.
Let's figure this out.
You know, it's not working or let's do something here.
I think that now you're maybe seeing Mark Murphy step in with a bigger voice.
You're seeing Brian Goudic can step in.
And let's not forget, you know, this is Matt.
Matt LaFour's fingerprints are all over this.
I mean, this is the quarterback that he obviously wants long-term in the future.
Wow.
And so, yeah, I mean, you're right.
I do wonder with Aaron Rogers is thinking of the day.
I'm sure he's not happy.
He's peed up, and he'll say all the right things publicly.
But behind the scenes, I'm sure the Packers aren't necessarily, you know,
that worried about their quarterback having that chip on the shoulder still.
I mean, hey, maybe this does light a fire under Aaron Rogers if he needed another one.
Yeah, I mean, he's played.
he plays well angry.
You do, so you think Matt Lafleur's
fingerprint are on this?
I think, yeah,
he has to have a voice in this kind of
decision. I mean, he's
he was the head coach that
you know, Murphy, Goudicants,
Rustball, everybody really zeroed in on
or high on to leave in
long term. This isn't an organization that wants
to cycle through coaches. I'd be shocked
if he didn't have a loud voice,
a strong voice in that room.
Wow. The whole, the whole thing is
so fascinating. Because, you know, I was saying earlier, Tyler Dunn joining us, NFL Features, writer, Bleacher Report,
you have to win your division before you worry about the playoffs. You have to win your division.
Well, Minnesota, I think, has as good or better a roster than Green Bay. And I think Mike Zimmer's a good coach.
And I love their front office. And they went and got two starters last night. And they have a second round pick.
And they have two third round picks. And they have a couple fourth round picks. And I look at them and I think,
I think Minnesota watched that pick last night and we're happy about it.
because they thought, well, it's not going to, it's, Mike Zimmer's saying,
we're not going to face Jordan Love for two years, and I may only have two years left.
If I don't win big, I'm out of a job.
I always think, what do your rivals say about the move you make?
I thought Minnesota got better last night.
I don't think Green Bay got better last night.
Is that crazy?
Short term, I'm with you.
I mean, Jordan Love isn't going to see the field for a long time.
I mean, he might start as the number three.
I can boy, I mean, it's a long-term projection.
But, you know, let's remember they still have more picks.
And the best receivers that have been around Aaron Rogers were all second rounders.
Jordy Nelson, Greg Jennings, James Jones is a third.
Randall Cobb is second.
That's good point.
They found Jim in this round that we're going to have tonight.
So it's not over.
And the defense is really good.
I think that Goudicent has really hit the bullseye on that side of the ball.
You're right, though.
I mean, the Vikings aren't that upset because there's a lot of pressure on that organization.
right now. I mean, they've got a win right now. They lost a lot of veterans. They went all in on
Kirk Cousins. They're going to have to pay Delvin Cook. So I think that they've made some
smart moves to move Stefan Dix and get what they did for them was kind of a win-win because
that was somebody who didn't want to be there. And you basically find somebody younger and cheaper
and happier. Yeah, it's going to be interesting in that division. But it tightened up.
Tyler Dunn. Good talking to you. Tyler continued success.
Hey, appreciate it, man.
Thanks so much for having you back.
You bet.
Just fascinating.
Yeah, Jimmy Johnson didn't mind it either.
And then I said, did you ever do that with Akeman?
He goes, oh, yeah, he didn't like it.
It was Steve Walsh.
Howie Long has a great line.
Howie says, you can never have two Hall of Fame-level quarterbacks in the same room.
One takes all the oxygen out of the room.
And so it's, it's interesting.
And then Dallas went out and needs defense and went and got an offensive guy.
But I will defend the Cowboys on this.
Let me defend the Cowboys.
Let me say this about the Dallas Cowboys.
About a month ago, we never aired this segment, but we built it up.
And for some reason, we just never got to it.
We went to the last couple of drafts and we looked at the seven or eight players that are better than their draft spot like Lamar Jackson or Josh Jacobs.
All of them were offense.
They were all offense.
So if you go to last year's draft, you start finding guys who really overachieved.
A lot of them were offense.
This is an offensive league now.
So the Cowboys are like, okay, we need a safety.
But C.D. Lamb, we already got 2,000-yard receivers.
He's going to be productive.
And the other thing, Dallas may look at their offensive line with Travis Frederick retiring.
And they may say, listen, this offensive line, we got about two years left of it.
Tyron Smith is no longer a 16 game left tackle.
we got to take advantage of this offensive line for two years.
And we also, we want to find out, you know,
we want to find out DAC with all these weapons.
Can he go to the next level with Mike McCarthy?
So I get the reasoning, you know, I can go safety or CD Lamb.
CD Lamb is going to be more productive than a safety.
Dallas has drafted well on defense.
They still can't stop anybody.
Joy Taylor with the news.
No, no, no, no.
Turn on the news.
This is the herd line news.
Well, let's stick with that, Colin.
The Cowboys jumped at the opportunity to draft CD-LAM when he fell to them at the 17th pick.
Jerry Jones said Dallas had him rated as the sixth best prospect.
So they never thought he'd drop all the way to them.
And even though they received trade offers from three teams,
they couldn't pass up on the chance to draft, Lamb.
Stephen Jones even admitted the Cowboys didn't even interview Lamb,
believing it would be a wasted time wasted on a prospect that would be taken long
before the team had an opportunity to get him.
So they didn't even interview him.
So they had multiple people call them for a trade.
That's interesting.
That's how much they wanted him.
I mean, he was the sixth, he was sixth on their board, and they got him at 17.
So to them, that's a huge win.
Look, you could kind of tell that Jerry wasn't going safety when the camera was on him.
Like, he was.
Oh, they were having a ball.
Yeah, it's Jerry.
Like, he wants to make a splash.
And this is a, this is a splashy.
pick. I like CD Lamb, probably more than most people. And I like this, I like this pick for Dallas.
I know that they, they do have some receivers and just made a receiver, but you want to keep building.
I am kind of surprised and go with safety or offensive line for that matter, because like you said,
their offensive line is starting to get up there. But this is a good pick for them.
Give Dak all the weapons that he can get, figure out if he's the guy and your franchise moving forward.
So I like this pick for, for Dallas. Again, I don't really dislike any of the picks.
last night. There were a few that kind of stood out. I think Jordan Love is way too high.
And I was surprised that Arizona didn't go with offensive line, but I do like this pick for
Dallas. So the Bucks weren't taking any chances last night with three offensive tackles
already drafted in the first 11 picks. Tampa Bay GM Jason Light said they didn't want to risk
missing out on the top players at the position at number 14. So they traded with the 49ers.
To move up one spot to 13 to make sure they got Tristan Worf's. I also agree with you. I think this was
was sprinkled with a little Tom Brady.
Sure. Influence.
Tom Brady influence.
Yes.
Why not?
I mean, they have a defense, as we know, so that wasn't a position that they were going
to go with.
They have a lot of offensive weapons.
So why not give Tom Brady, who's not a mobile quarterback and does not like to get hit,
especially now at this point in his career, some offensive line help.
Do you see the saints yesterday?
They went and got, Joy, they went, and they went and got Caesar Ruiz from Michigan,
yeah, 24th pick.
so he went higher than gas. Why?
Well, they got Drew Breeze.
So it's like, and he's supposed to be a great pass blocker.
So, yeah, I mean, when your quarterback gets older, you have to, this is an incredible asset.
It's a $30 million a year asset.
So I think the Saints did really what Tampa Bay did, which is, you know, they probably said,
listen, we talked to Drew and Drew's like, listen, sometimes the interior pressure is rough.
Because Drew Breeze is one of those guys like Brady.
You know, Drew's good at stepping up with pressure.
But if you get pressure up through the middle, it can disrupt.
everything. So I think once you're a, once you got those Super Bowl rings and you're like 39, 40,
41, I think a coach should go to a quarterback and say, listen, you're in this huddle. What do you need?
And I think most of the time the guys say offensive linemen. Right. And in Tampa Bay,
Brady is looking for a new experience and can't imagine that Bill Belichick is hitting up
Tom Brady and asking him for his advice on drafts over the past couple years. No, we don't know,
obviously, but assuming that the way that things ended, that wasn't the case. But,
But it's not that everyone doesn't need an offensive line.
Of course, you all want a great offensive line.
But if you have a more mobile quarterback and you don't have weapons,
then that might be the way that you lean.
For example, Dallas.
Yeah.
And with CD Lam.
So I like this pick for Tampa Bay.
Finally, Las Vegas obviously was supposed to be the host city.
Yeah.
With all the lights and fun for this year's NFL draft.
And they will still get their chance.
Roger Goodell announced last night that Vegas has been chosen to host the event
in 2022. Cleveland has the 2021 draft, so they are going to stick with that, assuming that they had
already started making provisions to host everyone next year. So Vegas is going to host the 22 draft,
so those upcoming prospects can look forward to that. T.J. Hushman Zata had a really,
had a really nice suggestion, though. We did our live caffeine stream for the first 10 picks.
They should bring all the first rounders to the draft next year and introduce them with Roger Goodell,
since they didn't get to have their moment this year.
Now, obviously, not all of the first rounders go to the draft.
Some guys still opt to stay home with their family.
So it's not that everyone would have been there to begin with.
But that would be a nice moment, no?
I think they're fine.
I think seeing kids with their families was great.
I don't think.
No, I agree.
But I'm saying there are kids who looked forward to walking across the stage
and meeting Roger Goodell and, you know, holding the jersey up.
Just a nice thing that, you know, they didn't get to participate in.
were going to go to the draft this year.
A lot of guys stay home with their families to begin with.
And I thought the broadcast was amazing last night.
I don't think that we missed anything.
I was looking forward to seeing what they were going to do in Vegas, obviously.
But I thought it was a really nice moment for everyone last night.
Everybody, there's so much panic-seeking missiles, like the media sometimes.
Like everybody was freaking out about the virtual draft.
The WNBA had a virtual draft.
It was fine.
The XFL had it.
I thought the draft was amazing last night.
Again, the media is, you know, whether you think they're conservative or, you know, a liberal,
the media is too willing to stoke panic.
Like the NFL draft was going to be fine.
We had an NFL reporter at another network.
There'll be blood in the streets if you do the draft during the virus.
Oh, stop.
Our job is to report, not to create panic, drama.
It's like, I thought the draft was terrific.
And by the way, there was a couple times that, you know, Trey Wingo, you know, somebody wasn't there.
That's television.
Right.
I worked at local TV for 14 years.
You know how many times tape didn't roll?
I mean, for that matter, that could happen during a live broadcast.
Of course.
There's 600,000 people in the street as well.
So I thought they did a great job.
I enjoyed all of it.
I think everyone enjoyed it.
It was a nice moment.
We could all watch together and experience it.
And tonight.
And it was all positive.
The second round tonight.
Do you know how many good running backs there are?
Oh my God, there's so many great players.
Jonathan Taylor of Wisconsin, it could be a top 10 player in the draft.
I think if he goes to the right team with a decent old line,
by the way, Goulet, find me the top five picks in this next draft.
You know, you're sitting there giving me hockey scores for three weeks,
because I swear to God, who's getting Jonathan Taylor?
I want to know who the top five picks are, join in the second round.
If you say the dolphins, I'm going to go crazy.
If the dolphins can get, who is it?
It is the Bengals first, obviously.
They have Joe Mixing.
Colts.
Interesting.
Yeah.
Lions.
Interesting.
Giants obviously don't need it.
No.
Patriots.
They have Sony Michelle.
Right.
Panthers.
No.
Miami Dolphins.
If the dolphins get Jonathan Taylor,
drafts over.
Seriously.
Everybody just turn the television off.
Dolphins won.
The season's over.
If they get, if they, with what they've done,
if they get Jonathan Taylor,
you got to be kidding me.
That kid's going to be so good.
So excited.
Are you done, Joy?
Yes.
Okay, sorry, I lost myself.
I lost myself.
Joy with the news.
Well, that's the news.
And thanks for stopping by.
The Herdline News.
When did I become such a dolphin fan?
I just, if they get Jonathan Taylor,
I'll pour him to the club.
I'll pour a second cocktail tonight.
Jason McIntyre,
tomorrow's headlines today coming up next.
Be sure to catch live editions of the Hurd
weekdays in noon Eastern 9 a.m. Pacific on Fox Sports Radio, FS1, and the IHard Radio app.
By the way, OJ Howard is seeking a trade from the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. They have three tight ends.
That's good. Tom Brady will get a draft pick. Bruce Ariens will pick somebody else they need.
The Texans, by the way, just signed a three-year extension with Laramie Tunzel.
A bunch of money. Good stuff there. During the draft, we recognize hard work and the Red Vest Associates at Lowe's.
Join me in thanking all of the Red Vest Associates and everything they're doing to support their communities
during this tough time.
Jason McIntyre,
formerly of the big lead now.
He's Fox Sports, Fox Sports Radio, FS1, all that stuff.
So it is time.
Wait, hold on.
I just, hey, Greg, can you print something?
I just lost my...
Where the hell did it go?
I just lost my McIntyre thing.
My tomorrow's headlines today thing.
Can you print that again?
I don't have it.
I have no idea.
That's just crazy.
First of all, McIntyre, how out of the draft go?
How about your jets getting that mountain
of a man at left tackle.
Mackay Beckton,
yeah, got to love that.
Listen, the jets are,
they're moving in the right direction.
Colin, the thing that jumped out at me
from the draft big time
was the positions.
Did you notice the positions
that went in the first round?
One third of the entire first round
of the draft, O line and D line.
Okay?
This is, it's changing so much.
Zero running back,
zero tight end, zero safety.
The teams are getting a lot smarter.
Did you notice, you know,
we're turning into a major passing league.
You've got to be able to throw the foot.
but also defend the past.
Six cornerbacks went in the first round.
Teams are realizing, holy cow,
if we can't get to the quarterback, we've got to defend the past.
I think some teams reached it cornerback.
But overall, I thought that was a phenomenal draft last night.
Loved it.
Yeah.
All right, tomorrow's headlines today.
What will the headline be for the Packers this season
after drafting quarterback Jordan Love?
Oh, boy.
I know you've spent the bulk of the show going after your buddy, Aaron Rogers.
Colin, it's going to be a trying season in Green Bay.
The headline will be Aaron is out of Green Bay.
I do believe Aaron Rogers is going to turn 37 December.
This guy's late in his career, Colin.
Remember, Tom Brady went through one of these situations when the Patriots drafted Jimmy Garapolo.
Brady turned a negative into a positive.
He was the MVP of the league three years later.
Aaron Rogers faced with adversity is going to have to say, hey, man, can I turn a negative?
this 13 and 3 into a Super Bowl team or should I just get the heck out of Dodge.
They just drafted my successor.
We went 13 and 3 and you guys want to draft the backup quarterback.
How Aaron Rogers handles this is going to be so pivotal.
I will defend the Packers for half a second, Colin.
This is, as we've talked about before on the show, the deepest receiver draft in
a while.
We know historically they've drafted wide receivers later and done a good job with that.
Jordy Nelson, of course, Devante Adams.
so you don't have to get a receiver in the first round.
But I do believe Aaron Rogers will be looking to get out of Green Bay if things don't go well this season.
Tomorrow's headlines today.
What will the headline be for the New England Patriots accumulating draft picks this season?
13 picks for the Patriots.
Colin, I'm a believer in Bill Belichick.
I trust the process.
The headline will be Slow and Stidham wins the race.
Jared Stidham, Colin, you could laugh all you want.
I'm a believer in Belichick.
This is still a playoff team.
Remember, since the Patriots have been without Tom Brady since 2002, they're 13 and 6.
Belichick matters.
He knows what he's doing.
They have 13 draft picks for the rest of the draft.
They've got one in round two, four in round three.
I don't think they need a quarterback.
Obviously, Belichick didn't want love.
Jordan Love was there for him.
He said, no thanks.
they've won by drafting defense.
Their secondary tops in the league.
I still think this is a playoff team next year.
I think this is 11 wins.
They win the AFD East,
and Jarrett Stidham shocked the world
the same way Matt Castle did back in the day.
Yeah, we disagree on that.
Okay, tomorrow's headlines today.
What will the headline be for the CD Lamb Dallas Cowboys this season?
You know, I had my mock draft for Fox.
I had Henry Rugg, a receiver going to Dallas.
They take CD Lamb.
The headline will be no D in the big D.
I mean, Dallas, Colin, what are you doing if you're Jerry Jones?
You lose your number one sack guy in Robert Quinn.
You lose your best defensive back in Byron Jones.
You lose a safety.
You were 23rd against the past last year.
And you draft a receiver in the first round.
I can't get behind this pick.
I said it before.
I'm saying it again.
Dallas is not a playoff team next season.
I'm sorry.
They will not be in the playoffs.
They don't have any defense at all.
I don't think you're wrong.
And I think Philadelphia is just a, right now, Philadelphia is a better team.
Keep an eye on the Redskins, Colin.
Keep an eye on the Washington Redskins.
If Haskins could do anything, that defense is going to be incredible for the Redskins.
Yeah, their defense at front is scary now.
Finally, what will the headline be for Justin Herbert, Oregon Ducks now a Charger this year?
Yeah, well, I heard your interview.
You know, Herbert's a really great kid.
I don't believe her in the Chargers.
People are yelling at me online because I like them.
The headline will be Herbie, fully loaded.
I like the charges college, obviously a play on the movie.
I'm telling you, I thought they had one of the best first rounds.
You get Kenneth Murray.
Okay, we've seen him dominate as a tackling machine for Oklahoma.
Yeah, no, he's a great.
Yeah, no, he's a really good player.
Remember, when they made the playoffs two years ago, they were 10th in defense in the league.
injuries last year they fell to 25th
Derwin James in the secondary
you stole Chris Harris from Denver
in free agency so you got him
and Hayward on the corners
Bosa and Ingram you've got the middle
Colin if Tyrod Taylor can stay healthy
fine but I'm a believer in Justin
Herbert fitting into this offense
remember everybody thinks two is ready
Herbert had more college starts
through more passes in college
can stay healthier I think Justin Herbert's
a home run for the Chargers I love it
so do I. In fact I'm going to call Tom
to Lesko after the show.
Yeah, yeah.
Give him a nice shout-out.
Let me ask you this.
If Bill Belichick wanted O.J. Howard, when they said, hey, give me a fourth-round
pick.
Remember, Belichick knows Nick Sabin really well.
O.J. Howard from Alabama.
Do you think Belichick said, yeah, no thanks.
I'm going to pass on him?
No, I think Belichick doesn't want players.
He wants to go seven and nine and have 15 to 17 picks next year.
Use eight to get Trevor Lawrence.
He doesn't want to pay anybody.
Oh, Trevor Lurray.
Oh, yeah.
You think they're done.
Oh, yeah.
Really?
Yes, I do.
By the way, Jets have, do they have a second round pick and two third round picks.
So who are they going to take?
I think they're going to take a corner in the second, then a receiver and interior alignment in the third.
What do you think they take with their next pick?
Yeah, I was going to go there.
Now, the problem, of course, is a bunch of cornerbacks got overdrafted in the first round.
As I said, six wins.
I had the Jets going with the Ohio State kid, Arnett.
He wasn't even projected to go in the first round.
So they might have to reach for a corner.
But yes, offensive line still a major issue.
Keep an eye on the kid.
Lynn Boat, the Kentucky do-it-all guy.
He plays a receiver.
He played some quarterback.
He was a return specialist.
I like him a lot.
He could be a sleeper for the Jets here in the third round.
Good talking to you, buddy.
All right, buddy.
Great chill.
Peter Schrager, Jimmy Johnson, Justin Herbert, the newest L.A. Charger, Tyler Dunn, Jason McIntyre.
