Starting point is 00:00:00 This is an I-Heart podcast. Guaranteed Human. Another podcast from some SNL, late-night comedy guy, not quite. Unhumor me with Robert Smygel and friends. Me and hilarious guests from Bob Odenkirk to David Letterman help make you funnier. This week, my guest, SNL's Mikey Day and head writer, Streeter Seidel, help an a cappella band with their between songs banter.
Starting point is 00:00:23 Where does your group perform? We do some retirement homes. Those people are starving for banter. Listen to humor me with Robert Smigel and friends on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Imagine an Olympics where doping is not only legal, but encouraged. It's the enhanced games. Some call it grotesque.
Starting point is 00:00:42 Others say it's unleashing human potential. Either way, the podcast's Superhuman documented it all, embedded in the games and with the athletes for a full year. Within probably 10 days, I'd put on 10 pounds. I was having trouble stopping the muscle growth. Listen to Superhuman on the IHard Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. A win is a win.
Starting point is 00:01:06 A win is a win. I don't care what I'm saying. Yep, that's me, Clifford Taylor the 4th. You might have seen the skits, my basketball and college football journey, or my career in sports media. Well, now I'm bringing all of that excitement to my brand new podcast, The Clifers Show. This is a place for raw, unfilled conversations with athletes,
Starting point is 00:01:24 creators, and voices that not only deserve to be heard, but celebrated. So let's get to it. Listen to the Clifford show on the Iheart radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcast. And for more behind the scenes, follow at Clifford and at TikTok's podcast network on TikTok. On the Look Back at it podcast.
Starting point is 00:01:41 For 1979, that was a big moment for me. 84's big to me. I'm Sam J. And I'm Alex English. Each episode, we pick a year, unpack what went down, and try to make sense of how we survived it. With our friends, fellow comedians,
Starting point is 00:01:54 and favorite authors. Like Mark Lamont Hill on the 80s. 84 was a wild year. It was a wild year. I don't think there's a more important year for black people. Listen to look back at it on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Hey, what's good, y'all? You're listening to Learn the Hardway with your favorite therapist and host Kear Games.
Starting point is 00:02:15 This space is about black men's experiences, having honest conversations that's really not safe to have anywhere, but you're having them with a licensed professional who knows what he's doing. How many men carry a suit are armed? It signals to the world that you're not to be played with. And just because you have the capability that does not mean that you need to. Listen to learn the hard way on the AHA radio app, Apple Podcast, or wherever you get your podcast. The volume. You know this, sir. No balls for these.
Starting point is 00:02:52 Super Bowl. Championship. That should always be the expectation. All right, man. That's going on here. Welcome back to the Richard Sherman podcast, presented by our friends and partners over at Brightly. Got us shining. We appreciate you.
Starting point is 00:03:05 We had the Kansas City Chiefs versus the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, a thriller of a game. But again, the Kansas City Chiefs find a way to get it done at the last second. Of course, you just see it. Inevitability, slowly but surely,
Starting point is 00:03:22 you thought maybe 27 seconds was enough time for Bachelor homes, but no, they took it to OT, drove the ball down the field, scored on the first drive, never allowed the Tampa Bay Buccaneers to touch the football. Mitchell, they're still undefeated.
Starting point is 00:03:36 They are. This is vintage Mahomes, and this is vintage Travis Kelsey, too, who had a monster game. I mean, it doesn't matter what the chiefs are thrown, what adversity they've faced. I mean, we've seen him injury riddled at the wide receiver position. They just bring in D-Hop, you know, fresh from the Tennessee Titans, and he looks like the D-Hop of old. Richard, we've talked about it time and time again, and so someone knocks him off this mountaintop, They're the best team in the NFL, and they certainly looked like it, you know, late in this game today. But the Tampa Bay Buccaneers gave them a dog fight. You know, this is a team that was the Uber desperate going in, looking to get a win of their own,
Starting point is 00:04:15 obviously have dealing with wide receiver injuries left and right and center. And they were a lot more competitive than I think the general public thought they would be. Richard, how much did Tampa Bay surprise you in this game? They surprised me a ton. Baker Mayfield played really well. Cade Otten continues to build his case for maybe a Pro Bowl this year. Just they have to lean on him more with Mike Evans and Chris God went out. He stepped up and increased his output.
Starting point is 00:04:46 Sterling Shepherd, four-catch 48 yards, really came up crucial on that last fourth quarter drive at the end of the game to get them into scoring position. Vita Vaya sparked the thing off with two sacks early in this game. They got to Patrick Mahones. They bothered him. You know, I thought they had, you know, a case early on. They were playing them well. And then he started to figure it out. He started to find holes in a defense throughout the fourth quarter.
Starting point is 00:05:11 Connected with Travis Kelsey a number of times. 14 catches for 100 yards, no touchdowns. But DeAndre Hopkins, they found their rhythm in the red zone, a quick slant touchdown. Another touchdown on a double follow in the back of the end zone, following Travis Kelsey on a drive route. It just what they, he does so many things that make it hard. he gets banged up and he hurts himself.
Starting point is 00:05:33 He just comes back and continues to be relentless, pushing the ball down the field. And then at the end, it's like nobody's guarding Travis. I don't know if he's running real routes or he's just turning around and catching the ball. But they just continue to do it each and every week. And nobody can stop and nobody has figured it out. They can't. And then there's Kareem Hunt going off for over 100 yards. I mean, what's it going to take to stop this Kansas City Chief's team?
Starting point is 00:05:57 Because right now, again, this was not their best day of football. The first half was rather ugly, in fact, but they come out with a huge win here. What's it going to take to finally knock them off this month? Somebody's going to have to execute for four quarters, and nobody's been able to do it. You know, you've got to give Tampa Bay a lot of credit for just being in this game with the injuries that they had. Two of the best receivers in National Football League out. And, you know, I'm not sure. I mean, Mike Evans is coming back, but he's a huge part of what they're able to do.
Starting point is 00:06:28 And they were still able to put up 24 points on a very, very, very big. very good Kansas City Chief's defense. But I just don't know. You know, Corrine Hunt is an underrated piece of this offense. He's been a godsend after they had the injury. He's continued to bully and just enforce his will throughout each and every ballgame. Like he's wearing defenses down. He had 27 carries.
Starting point is 00:06:53 There are very few backs that get more than 20 carries these days to take 27 carries and continue to run the ball well, get the game winning touchdown and overtime. and it just seemed like they could not stop it. It was like very few times he got stopped at the line of scrimmage are behind. It always took two or three guys to bring him down. And when they didn't, he's getting five yards of pop. So there's not enough positives you can say about that. Another Kansas City win every week it seems like we're saying it was an ugly win.
Starting point is 00:07:21 It was an ugly win. It was an ugly win. But there are eight and no, they have not lost the game this season. And every single time, even when it looks like they're down and out, you just know something's going to go in their favor. and they're going to figure it out and score points and get the win. And that's what they've done the entire season. The Sunday night game was a lot more interesting than I thought it was going to be.
Starting point is 00:07:41 The big news of the day, obviously, was Anthony Richardson being benched for Joe Flacco. We talked about it on this show. It had to happen. You know, there's a lot of mixed reviews about it and people saying, oh, it's a wrong decision. I don't know what you guys expect people to do in a locker room. And they've never obviously been in a locker room. Everything isn't quarterback. centered. You owe it to 52 other guys to put a real product out there that can win games.
Starting point is 00:08:06 You can't just tell us, hey, this guy's completing 40% of his passes. We know we got somebody on the bench that could probably move the offense and give us some juice, but we're going to keep playing him because we want to develop him and we want the future to be brighter. But we don't really care about what's happening currently. Nobody's doing that. And that's why he got benched because you couldn't keep justifying it to the rest of the locker. These guys are working hard fighting their butts off every single week to win ball games. And you're telling me the quarterback who's not playing good enough and just needs more time to develop. You know, he just didn't play it the position long enough.
Starting point is 00:08:41 He didn't get enough reps in college. He doesn't have enough reps under his belt. And so you have to see somebody else do it sometimes. Sometimes you need to see somebody else do the job you're trying to do so that you know how to do it, how to carry yourself, how to manage games, how to game plan within games, how to game plan throughout the week, how to practice. And sometimes you're not prepared to just run, you know, be at the front of the line yourself and be able to execute the offense. But, I mean, I thought the Indianapolis Colts defense played really well.
Starting point is 00:09:12 They forced Sam Darnold with three turnovers in the first half. They were flying around. Nick Cross, Zaire Franklin, who's having an incredible year. I think he's among the league leaders and tackles. You got to give them a lot of credit. They were getting to Sam Darno. They were flustering them. They were doing everything they could.
Starting point is 00:09:29 I'm sure Joe Flacko wanted some of them passes back. He threw the interception. He lost the fumble. But I thought they gave themselves a good chance to win this game. But Sam Darnard overcame those four sacks and those three turnovers through three touchdowns in the second half to lead his team to victory. That's the resilience. This Minnesota Vikings team has showed all season.
Starting point is 00:09:50 And this is a win they had to have in a very tight NFC North to stay with. your Honolulu Blue wearing Detroit Lions and make sure that it's going to come down to the wire, probably the last game of the season to decide this division. No question. I mean, it was a rather stale first half for them. And then the second half, it was totally different story. Sam Darnold had his way and the Vikings that they play like they did in that second half. They look like they have all season.
Starting point is 00:10:20 And look who they got next weekend. Your buddy, Trevor Lawrence, the human, the human, now, if you want to call him that, Trevor Lawrence. Because the Vikings are going to take a W there, Richard. I'll be shocked that they lost. But we got some other stuff to talk about here. We got some major news on the forefront here on a Monday night. We just caught wind that Dak Prescott is expected to miss several weeks.
Starting point is 00:10:50 He was injured in this weekend's game. People thought it wasn't going to be that big of a deal. Mike McCarthy mentioned he might be out just this week against the Eagles, but now we got reports that Adam Schaefter says the severity is a lot worse than initially expected. You know, at a time when Dallas is finally getting their defensive playmakers back and Michael Parson and Durand, this happens. What's your outlook on this, Richard? I know Cooper Rush has had success, but this team's been riding an emotional roller coaster this entire season.
Starting point is 00:11:23 How bad does this one hurt? It hurts really bad. And I know Dak has a lot of haters out there. They're jumping for joy and not rightfully so because you can do a lot worse than Dak. And, you know, I know Cooper Rush had the success in 2022, but people forget they never scored more than 25 points in those games. He did fine, but they had a better defense.
Starting point is 00:11:46 And the defense was playing better than this defense is playing currently. They got more turnovers. Dan Quinn was at the helm. You had a lot of things going for you that. weren't the same. Your run game was better. Your offensive line was better. So for people to think, oh, he's just Cooper Rush is going to come in here and he's going to be four and one.
Starting point is 00:12:03 And then, Dak, we're going to be fine. I wouldn't, I wouldn't expect that. This isn't the same offensive line. The Dallas Cowboys and Dallas Cowboys fans are used to. You're used to having one of the best offensive lines in football. This is not that. And Cooper Rush, you do not have a run game like you, like you've had in the past. So do not expect the same things that he's done in the past.
Starting point is 00:12:25 He might have won games in the past. I expect him to struggle a bit early on. If he plays well, congratulations to him, you proved me wrong. But I highly doubt it. The NFL season is rolling along and contenders are separating from the pack. Word on the street is, as long as there's no red flags, CMC is going to play this Sunday against the Bucks. Have you heard any news? I know you got your ear to the ground over there.
Starting point is 00:14:35 Yeah, I mean, I heard it from the horse's mouth. He feels really good, and he felt like he could have probably played last week, but they wanted to be overly cautious and just give him more weeks of practice and more time to really work that thing out and feel comfortable and feel confident, and he does. Nothing's like game reps, and until he gets out there in a game, and is able to cut and get the adrenaline going and feel himself, throughout a ball game. He's still going to have to knock the rust off just in-game,
Starting point is 00:15:01 you know. You know, people, football's a really fast game, a really violent game. Very few people can come in and just say, hey, I'm putting on pads and I'm going to be the player I was when I was offensive player to eat or first game into the season. Everybody else is nine games in. They've got their hits. They got their soreness. They got the speed of the game. They're in rhythm. He has to find a way to get in rhythm. But I think it, you know, all signs point to him playing. And likely, probably playing a significant role in this game. Well, we'll see.
Starting point is 00:15:31 I mean, like you said, if they're going to bring them back, they might as well give them a healthy dose of touches. And Lord knows when CMC gets the ball in his hands, that offense is a new cheat code, right? I mean, it unlocks an entire new dynamic for them. What are your expectations for the team moving forward with him back? I mean, do you think the division is theirs now that he's healthy-ish? Well, the division isn't anybody.
Starting point is 00:15:58 You know what I mean? If I could predict that, Mitchell, I'd go on to Vegas and bet a whole lot of money on it. It's just such an unpredictable season. They're really talented team. What they should be doing is one thing. What they actually do will be a whole other thing. You know, what I could say, what, you know, on paper it should be, and it should be a lot of success, but I've been wrong on paper and off paper before.
Starting point is 00:16:20 So you hope for the best for him. You just hope that he goes out there and he's healthy, and he's given his best, you know, his best effort. and he's able to play up to his abilities. And I think it'll work out for the San Francisco 49ers and at least get into the playoffs. And, you know, if they get into the playoffs, they got a shot. I think anytime they get into the playoffs, they have a chance to make some noise and make run. Let's go down to New Orleans. I mean, we saw a wild weekend down there.
Starting point is 00:16:45 Michael Thomas was live tweeting, you know, talking to fans about their thoughts about Derek Carr. And then it all culminates with Dennis Allen getting the boot officially fired this morning. Richard, what went wrong? I mean, this team, they started off hot this season. They looked like they were going to be really competitive. And then a string of losses just took over this team. What went wrong here for the Saints? Well, it's just a lot of things.
Starting point is 00:17:13 You know, injuries, you know, age, just lack of tackling, lack of execution. And it's happened to them a number of years. And I think, you know, this is just the straw that broke the camels back. You know, they started 2 and O and then just. kind of, you know, withered away throughout the season and just not had great seasons. I finished the season's great. And it would look like the same old story, you know, start off two and oh, looked really good offensively, defensively. They're making plays. And then slowly but surely, you know, it goes away. They lose some close games. They get blown out a few times.
Starting point is 00:17:45 And you're back in the same position where you've lost seven straight and then you lose to a division opponent who really isn't built to win right now. They're not built to win any games. They had lost Andy Dalton, so they had to go back to Bryce Young, and he's able to beat you in a 22 to 23 ball game. You know, it's just enough's enough. And I think they need to shark fresh on a lot of different places. I think, you know, this is just the beginning of them cleaning house a bit in New Orleans and trying to, you know, refresh this roster and refresh this coaching staff and try to, you know, get back to their winning ways. Well, you know what's frustrating when friend of the program comes. Cam Jordan issues of public apology on social media after the game.
Starting point is 00:18:28 And then I got to ask, I mean, what's your thoughts here with Michael Thomas? He goes on a rant, you know, you got to believe he's frustrated that he's not playing right now, that he's not on a team. But that Chris Alavi throw from Derek Carr, he hung him out to dry. I mean, obviously there's no room in the game for something like this, but emotions boil over sometimes. What are your thoughts on this whole Michael Thomas Twitter rant? Well, I don't really understand it.
Starting point is 00:18:57 You know, I don't understand the dynamics of what's going on. What went on and what transpired in New Orleans. Clearly, there was some, you know, a lot going on behind the scenes. He hadn't played a lot, you know, with Derek Carr, and he didn't play a lot last season, and he's been injured for a number of season. I think that's why he's still at home now, and a team hasn't picked him up. He's just been beat up, and I'm not sure, you know, if his foot is still unhealthy or it's a bad knee or, you know, it could be a number of things, but I just don't know. I don't know how I feel about,
Starting point is 00:19:26 you know, you going around New Orleans, you know, bad mouth into quarterback. I don't know who that benefits, you know, and sure, if you do it in the offseason, maybe you do it as a joke or something funny or, you know what I mean, to get some publicity, but I don't even know if this is getting like followers or, you know what I mean? You, you're not selling anything or you're not trying to try to get clicks for something, you know, or, but, you know, clearly he's frustrated with with the set of the team and his lack of opportunity and, you know, the perceived disconnect or discord between he and Chris Oliva. And I just, I don't know.
Starting point is 00:20:06 I don't think, you know, it was unfortunate incident what happened to Chris Oliva. You know, obviously I don't think Derek's trying to intentionally harm anybody. It was a bad ball. But quarterbacks throw bad balls all the time. I've already said many times that I think quarterbacks should be fine for, for balls like that. You always find defenders for doing their job when you're throwing guys into their coverage and, you know, you got to make a play. You got to dislodge them from the ball or at least attempt to. But I don't know. I think he's entitled to do whatever he wants to do, to say whatever
Starting point is 00:20:38 he wants to say. He played some great years for that franchise, put up a lot of great numbers for that team. So if he wants to go out there and bad mouth the quarterback, more power to him. Let's talk a little bit about Seekwant Barkley. I mean, we brought it up yesterday. yesterday on the podcast. And this guy is just an absolute freaking nature. Everyone knew he was an Uber athlete. But to look at him now when he's in this free-flowing offense with the Philadelphia Eagles, it's a thing of beauty.
Starting point is 00:21:06 He's got 157 carries for 925 yards on the season, six touchdowns, a couple of receiving touchdowns as well. And Micah Parsons is now ripping on the New York Giants. He says on his podcast, the Giants did not appreciate him. And now the rest of the league is facing the consequences of the giant's stupidity. Players come and players go. The team logo is always going to be what fans inevitably root for in the end. I mean, you've seen it.
Starting point is 00:21:36 But how do you feel about fans burning Sequan's jersey in front of MetLife over the weekend and just fueling this fire for Seekwon? I agree with him. I mean, you know, it's idiotic. It's a idiotic. I mean, fans burning jerseys in general is the stupidest thing in the world to me. I mean, you paid so much money to get this jersey. And now you're burning it like the guy abandoned your team or he did something to your family. Like the guy wanted with all his might to stay with the team. The team said, we don't want you. Other teams said they wanted him. And the fans are mad at him. You know, be mad at the organization. Go, go burn your season tickets or something and don't come to game.
Starting point is 00:22:17 Stop buying season tickets and make your point. But don't be mad at the players. you know, fans only understand that it's a business from one side. They understand it's a business when players are getting cut or traded or moved on from or, oh, man, you're not playing up to your contract. So I get it. We should cut you. It's just a business. But when players do what's best for them or when they're forced to move on and go somewhere else and play for another team,
Starting point is 00:22:40 then the fans don't understand it's a business. They're like, oh, you're going to that team out of spite. No, I'm making the best business move for me in my family and my career. and Sequin made the best business move, and it's shown on the football field. He's having one of his best seasons ever. He looks like a fantastic running back, like an all pro, and fans are sitting there like he shouldn't have gone to the Eagles. I'm like, I don't, for a team to say, I don't want you,
Starting point is 00:23:07 I'm not thinking about that team when I make my next decision. Y'all have lost your damn minds, and y'all need to think about that in your own lives. Hey, we got fired from a job. I'm going to think about that job when I go get another job. I don't want to offend my old job, even though they just fired me and they didn't want me anymore and they didn't want to give me a raise. And this other job who's their rival wants to give me a raise and wants to treat me right, wants to use me in the best possible ways and highlight my talents. And I'm supposed to say, no, no, the job that fired me, they didn't like you guys. So I'm going to go somewhere else that probably won't treat me as well.
Starting point is 00:23:43 And I won't shine as well and I won't do as well because of the respect I have for the organization that just fired me. do you see how ridiculous that is? It's pretty ridiculous. So, you know, Michael Parsons saying it. I mean, he's not wrong with what he's saying. I'm sure the Giants fans are sitting there like, you're not playing. How are you the one saying this?
Starting point is 00:24:02 But he gets to do that. He has a podcast. He does. He does. And listen, you got to look at it. Like you said, you're an individual talking with obvious experience and going through something similar to this, Richard. And you got to look at it just simple as simple facts.
Starting point is 00:24:18 I don't know if there's a best. better situation in terms of just pick a player, put him in a spot than Sequin is in terms of true fit with the Philadelphia Eagles. He's not new to this league. He knows exactly what's going on. And he saw, hey, I can line up in the backfield with Jalen Hertz and have A.J. Brown and Devante Smith to work with as well. It's the perfect pairing in Philly.
Starting point is 00:24:42 It makes all the sense in the world. It sucks for the Giants fans that he went to with division foe. But like you said, they had their opportunity. to sign them. They chose against it. Guess what? Guess what? You don't want to see him in another uniform, then sign him.
Starting point is 00:24:56 If you don't sign him, then get ready to see him in another uniform and don't be mad at which one he puts on because you didn't want him. When I saw, look, this is what ended it for me and just arguing with fans about burning jersey. When I saw New England fans burning Tom Brady's jersey, I said, oh, this world has lost its damn mine. Like, if you burn in that jersey, then nobody's safe. Nobody in the damn league is safe.
Starting point is 00:25:22 Because you're burning Tom Brady's jersey after everything he did for New England. Y'all have lost your damn minds. And if you think I'm lying, Google burning Tom Brady's jersey, and I guarantee you you'll find it. Like, that's how ridiculous these fans are, no matter how much you do for a franchise, no matter if you brought them six rings like Tom did, took him to 10 Super Bowls. when they get rid of you, when they say time is up and it's time for you to go on, then they're burning your jersey, not appreciating what you did. And obviously, the fans cheered when he came back to the stadium to Gillette.
Starting point is 00:25:57 And, you know, they retired his jersey to the whole ceremony. But in the initial reaction, they should have been framing their jersey. Mitchell, you don't burn that jersey. You know how dumb that looks? Like, no matter what you feel, 12, Tom Brady, New England Patriots jersey. Like, that's historic. That's the goat jersey. And so it would, but that's, that's something that needs to stop.
Starting point is 00:26:21 Fans, stop burning the damn jersey. Stop buying them if you're going to burn them. Like, just stop buying them. But you're just right on a shirt or something. Exactly. Imagine an Olympics where doping is not only legal, but encouraged. It's the enhanced games. Some call it grotesque.
Starting point is 00:26:38 Others say it's unleashing human potential. Either way, the podcast, Superhuman documented it all, embedded in the games and with the athletes for a full year. Starting point is 00:28:11 I'm bringing over a decade of my own experience in the mental health field and conversations with so many incredible guests. I'm talking, Tripp Fontaine, Ryan Clark. Sometimes when we're in the pursuit of the thing, we get so wrapped up in the chase that we don't realize that we are in possession of the thing. And we're still chasing it,
Starting point is 00:28:30 and we don't know when we've done enough. Because people scoreboard watch. Life becomes about wins and losses. Steve Burns, Dustin Ross, you find it important to be a good person while you hear on earth? Are you a good person because you're afraid? Because that's two different intentions, bro. Absolutely.
Starting point is 00:28:46 And that's two different levels of trust. I want you to just really be a good person. Join me, Keir Gaines, as we have real conversations about healing, growth, fatherhood, pressure, and purpose on my new podcast, Learn the Hardway. Or when Kanye said that George Bush didn't like black people.
Starting point is 00:29:12 I know what you're thinking. What the hell does George Bush got to do with a little Kim? Well, you can find out on the Look Back at it podcast. I'm Sam Jay. And I'm Alex English. Each episode, we pick it here, unpack what went down, and try to make sense of how we survived it. Including a recent episode with Mark Lamont Hill, waxing all about crack in the 80s. To be clear, 84 was big to me, not just because of crack.
Starting point is 00:29:35 I'm down to talk about crack on day, but just so you all right. No, we don't have plenty. But just so y'all know. I mean, at this point, this is the second episode where we've discussed correct. So I'm starting to see that there's a through line. We also have AIDS on the table right now. Thank you for finishing that sentence.
Starting point is 00:29:50 Yes. I don't think there's a more important year for black people. Really? Yeah. For me, it's one of the most important years for black people in American history. Listen to look back at it on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. This is Saigon, the story of my history.
Starting point is 00:30:07 family and of the country that shaped us. The United States will not stand by and allow any power, however great, take over another country. From My Heart Podcasts, Saigon. Please allow me to introduce Joseph Sherman. You don't think I'm serious about a free Vietnam? I should stop talking so much. I like hearing you talk.
Starting point is 00:30:27 One city, a divided country, and the war that tore America apart. This is for Vietnam. I've taken a hit from Japanese ground fire. Deuterate me. They're pouring petrol all over him. He's holding matches. I'm on a landmine. Fort Bridge on.
Starting point is 00:30:44 Get out. Freedom. Come in nine. Saigon. Starring Kelly Marie Tran and Rob Benedict. Sting here's madness. The world should hear about this. There's a fire coming to this country and it's going to burn out everything.
Starting point is 00:30:58 Listen to Saigon on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Well, Richard, I want to. want to talk a little bit about my Detroit Lions here. We talked about them a little bit yesterday, but speaking of dumb comments, Elston Jenkins from the Green Bay Packers, had a little tagline
Starting point is 00:31:19 this morning. The team that executed won, not the better team. What are your thoughts on that? Because I call straight up BS on that. What? What? I mean,
Starting point is 00:31:35 what? And Mitchell, I had to, I had to find it You know, Burn Time Brady, Jersey so that people can see it because it was so stupid. But what? And I think, you know, Elgin Jenkins is a good player and he played in multiple positions for the Green Bay. Just stop. Stop it. Stop it.
Starting point is 00:31:57 Stop it. This team just went to the NSC championship game. They're seven and won for a reason. They're the best team in your division. And I think Minnesota is the second best team. And so I think Green Bay is the third. So I don't know how you can say that. You guys lost to Minnesota.
Starting point is 00:32:12 You just lost to Detroit. Like, when are you, when have you been the best team, the better team? Like, I don't know. I don't know how, and I don't even think that's a callout. I just don't think it's true. And I don't even think he believes that. And I don't think his teammates believe. Or maybe they do.
Starting point is 00:32:26 Because sometimes you get, when you're in football, you get, you believe things that, you know, that aren't always true because that's how you have to be in the National Football League. But I don't know. I think Detroit was the better team and they won. Richard, let's move on to the buy or sell segment. We got some good ones here. Let's stick with the Detroit Lions. I'm going to ask you simply,
Starting point is 00:32:49 you buy or sell my statements. Let's start with the Lions. The Detroit Lions will be the number one seed in the NFC. Are you buying or selling that? Um, mm-hmm. It's an easy answer, Rich. I can buy it, Mitchell, but it's close. It's really close because one of those NFC East teams can sneak in.
Starting point is 00:33:21 You're the same record. You know, I think both teams, I think they get a couple else somewhere down the line. They're going to find a couple losses. But I'll buy that. I'll buy that. They're playing really good football right now. All right. Now, obviously, with CMC coming back,
Starting point is 00:33:40 Jordan Mason may or may not be out of a job. But that being said, you know, he obviously showed that he can be a starting running back in this league. It is my belief, Richard, that he will find a new starting role somewhere next year. Are you buying or selling Jordan Mason as a starting running back in this league next season? I can buy that, but the league is so weird, especially about running backs. You know, they'll see a guy run and be having a season that he's having.
Starting point is 00:34:11 I mean, or having a season Derek Henry's having. And then Derek Henry was a free agent and nobody was really checking for him like that. And so then you got GMs afterwards like, maybe we should have took a second look at Derek Henry. Like, what are we talking? Take a second look at him. He was having a Hall of Fame career and he had it. Like, what are we doing? And then you let him go to Baltimore?
Starting point is 00:34:31 But, yeah, I think he'll have an opportunity. I think a team will allow him to compete for the starting job. I don't know if somebody's going to give it to him outright. And I don't know if he's totally out of a job right now. I think he'll still get some carries. I think, you know, they'll trust him more than they did last season. Even with CMC, maybe you see some pony with two running backs in at times and even putting more pressure on the defense and more creativity from Calshanahan.
Starting point is 00:34:58 Taking it to Jacksonville, Trevor Lawrence, we already talked about him, but you see the disaster of the season that Jacksonville Jaguaries are on right now. It's only a matter of time before Doug Peterson falls victim to this coach firing that is going on. Jacksonville will fire Doug Peterson by the end of the season, by yourself. I'll buy it because that's just what the fans are calling for. That's what everybody's calling for. They likely will lose to Minnesota and they'll fall to two and eight. You know, it's hard not to fire the coach that's two and eight, but it's funny how
Starting point is 00:35:40 these records go and, you know, they give quarterbacks credit for wins and you say, when quarterbacks win or when they get to the playoffs, they're like, man, that quarterback got our team to the playoffs, he did so great. But then when they lose games and they lose, they only win two of their last 16 games, then they're like, why are all the losses and wins on the quarterback? It's like, well, you gave him credit for taking you to the playoffs when it wasn't just him taking you to the playoffs. There was a lot of factors, defense leading the league in turnovers and things of that nature. But then when it goes the other way, you say that's not on the quarterback. It's on the coach or it's on the defense.
Starting point is 00:36:18 And the defense isn't playing great. But the last game, they didn't play bad. They played good enough and gave you a touchdown. But of course, you throw interception to lose the game. That's kind of on the quarterback. And so, you know, you can fire Doug Peterson, but then the excuses just continue to mount for this team because then you bring in another coach. I don't think Ben Johnson takes this job. I know everybody's like Ben Johnson, Ben Johnson, Ben Johnson, Ben Johnson.
Starting point is 00:36:43 I don't know if he takes a Dallas job. I don't think he takes the Jacksonville job. I definitely don't think he takes a New Orleans job. You know, I don't know where he goes, but, you know, I know they're going to be feeling like they can just get Ben Johnson type and they have weapons on offense. they have a lot of things. And of course, they think he can fix, you know, Trevor Lawrence and he can get the most out of him. But then they're going to be, if they don't win again, they're going to just be calling to fire him. And nobody ever wants to just accept that maybe the guy isn't the guy, you know, and you're going to be handicapped because he's going to cost you $55 million.
Starting point is 00:37:15 So back to buyer's sale, I'll buy that because they got to blame somebody. And for all the gamers out there, get ready because call the duty is back. forced to go rogue, hunted from within. This is Call the Duty, BlackOps 6. Developed by Trey Ark and Raven, BlackOps 6 is a mind-bending narrative. And unbound by the rules of engagement, this is signature Black Ops. You can look forward to even more exciting maps and groundbreaking experiences dropping on both multiplayer and zombies. Call the Duty BlackOp. 6 is a spy action thriller. in the 90s by the end of the Cold War and the rise of the United States
Starting point is 00:38:30 as a single superpower. Head over to callad duty.com slash blackop six and get in the game. Call of Duty Blackop six, available now, rated M for Mature. Let's talk about the Bears. This is a team that got out to a hot start this season. Everyone was like, okay, maybe, you know,
Starting point is 00:38:47 they're four and two, maybe they're for real. And then they suffer back-to-back loss is one devastating loss that we talked about last week with the Hail Mary. Richard, their schedule's very tough the rest of the way, and there's already a lot of discussion in-house. I mean, I got a lot of Chicago Bear friends that are in my network, and it doesn't seem that a lot of folks are happy.
Starting point is 00:39:12 Matt Ibrufluz will not be the coach of the Chicago Bears next season, buy or sell. I can buy that. I can buy that because they were thinking about getting rid of them last year. It was all this conversation, whether they get rid of him or Justin Fields and yada, yada, yada, will they want a new coach with Caleb Williams, a new offensive system, a new scheme? I think everybody, you know, you're going to have to, that defense is playing really well. They're doing what they're supposed to do when they have a majority of this season.
Starting point is 00:39:47 Offensively, it's just too inconsistent from a young quarterback, and you expect the growing pains, the ups and downs from a young quarterback. That's what you're going to get, but you've got to solidify that offensive line. line at some point or another. And I know they're like, hey, we've used some draft picks on it, but you need quality over quantity. You need quality players at the offensive line. And you need depth because players get hurt all the time.
Starting point is 00:40:11 So, yeah, I think they'll probably want to start over. You know, I mean, they've got a tough schedule coming down a stretch. If they can somehow make the playoffs, I think that saves his job. You know, that's the only way that they can save him is making a playoff. but if they don't, I think they start anew. As much as I'd hate to see it, Ben Johnson would be a lethal fit with the Chicago Bears and their plet of weapons. We've talked enough about coaches that are probably going to get fired,
Starting point is 00:40:40 may not be here next year with the team. Let's talk about somebody that may be with the team next year as a head coach. Neon, Dion, Dion, Prime Time, Dion Sanders, Coach Prime will be an NFL head coach next season. buy or sell. I'll sell that because just because Prime said it multiple times that he's not going to do it, but I want to buy it because I know that he can say one thing and something can be convinced. You know, there are some very persuasive owners out there that would go and they have deep pocketbooks that are also very persuasive.
Starting point is 00:41:19 And, you know, his sons will be gone, you know, no longer at Colorado. he's obviously adamantly been adamant about him staying at Colorado once his sons are done he wants to build something special they're having a really good season right now I think they're ranked 21st in the nation have a chance to really if they can win the rest of their games this season might have a chance to sneak into the playoffs which would be really incredible just for how far they've come you know they're already going to a bowl game and they're just building on top of that but I don't think I'll say no I'll sell it safe we're going to sell that even though I want to buy. I would love to see it. I would love to see it.
Starting point is 00:41:57 Well, Richard, we got another game to talk about here. You're going to be going to Baltimore. This is, it's time for our TNF preview presented by Prime Video. The Bengals are going on the road against the Baltimore Ravens. This is going to be a huge divisional matchup. Baltimore is favored by six points going into this game. Joe Burrow already said, get your F and bodies right, get your minds right. It's a big one on Thursday.
Starting point is 00:42:23 Richard, what are you looking for in this game? You got to be pumped to be in the house for this one. Yeah, I'm really excited. You know, last year, you know, unfortunately, Joe Burrow got hurt in the game that we had. Same exact game. He hurt his thumb and was out for the remainder of the season. So it wasn't the game we wanted to be. But, of course, this game, you know, the first game was the shootout 41 to 38.
Starting point is 00:42:48 This one, of course, will be a defensive game on Thursday. and I would not a lot of scoring or something like that. Watch. They're going to run Derek Henry a ton. Joe Burrow is playing coming off of five's touchdown performance. So, of course, he throws for one in our game or something. Watch. Yeah, this is a division game that Baltimore has to win again. They're six and three, but they've used their get out of jail free cards already.
Starting point is 00:43:16 They're mulligans of sorts on losing games to the Browns and the Raiders. They cannot lose any more. kind of games to teams that aren't as talented as they are, aren't as good, and divisional games are always tough. They're at home. They're six-point favorites. I think they win this game, but of course, every time I pick a team to win, they lose. So that's the way my days have been going. But I think Lamar Jackson, again, is having an MVP season, even better season, you know, on pace to throw 38 touchdowns and only four interceptions, which would be a really massive season. We talked about Derek Henry and his MVP candidacy, only two other backs with 1,000 yards through nine games and 10 touchdowns.
Starting point is 00:44:00 So I just think that's too much for the Bengals. Their defense has played well over the last four games, but they didn't play well against the Ravens last time, and I don't know what they could have done to fix it. Maybe Trey Hendrickson and Hubbard are able to get home and cause chaos for Lamar Jackson, but Lamar, the game just looks too easy for him right now. Well, that's this week's TNF preview presented by Prime Video. Make sure you guys tune in to watch the Bengals take on the Ravens this Thursday. Richard will be on desk at 7 p.m. Eastern with all the folks over there. I know you're going to have a lot of fun there, Rich. Let's take it to my final favorite personal segment.
Starting point is 00:44:41 I was really, really excited seeing the Kansas City Chiefs about to lose because I thought internally, man, this might actually motivate Richard to put the Honolulu blue and silver atop the number one seed in his power ranks. I have feeling I'm going to be waiting another week for that, Rich. Where do we stack them up this week with the Richard Sherman power ranks? Well, there's not a lot of movement between one and two, Mitchell. One is still the Kansas City Chiefs.
Starting point is 00:45:10 They did not lose and they have not lost. There ain't no one. I give your Detroit Lions, two. I'll move the Buffalo Bills. They played looked really good this week. They looked really good against Seahawks the week before. After that, it's a toss up right now between Baltimore and the Washington commanders for me. Again, the Washington commanders just, they just keep, they just, they are a fun team and I enjoy them.
Starting point is 00:45:39 But Lamar Jackson looked really good this week, and so did Derek Henry. They look good every week. So that's where it's tough. You know, there's a hint of me wanting to throw the chargers in there, but every. time I do that, you know, it doesn't go back great. We'll go Baltimore, Washington for now with, with, with the Chargers knocking on the door and waiting for me to answer. I respect it. And I'm telling you, though, Rich, we got a doozy of a Sunday night game with the Lions playing the Texans.
Starting point is 00:46:09 This just might be another opportunity to prove to you that a one lost team still might be worthy of the number one seed. Mitchell, Mitchell, they're going to have to, it would have to be. decisive. Okay. It has to be really decisive, Mitchell. If you blow the Houston Texans out, you may have an opportunity, but then you need the Kansas City Chief not to blow anybody out, you know, another tight game overtime win because if they blow them out, then it's even.
Starting point is 00:46:37 There you go. There you go. Well, hey, this officially concludes week nine. Richard, I will let you sign us off. Well, thank you guys again for joining us every single week with the Richard Sherman podcast. my guy, me and my guy Mitch Eisenstein. We have a lot of fun with this. We enjoy your commentary.
