What another week for the San Francisco 49ers. They get their star quarterback back, Brock Purdy. There was conversations including on this podcast wondering what they would do and when they would bring him back. I thought maybe they would wait another week and allow him to heal, especially with Mack Jones playing the way they did, but Kyle Shannahan made the decision against the struggling Arizona Cardinals team
Starting point is 00:03:10 that he was going to make that call immediately and have Brock Purdy start versus the Arizona Cardinals, and it was a great decision. He had three touchdown passes in the game, looked very smooth from the opening kickoff until the end. He threw it to everybody. He threw a touchdown to the CMC. He got George Kittle involved for two touchdowns. The defense played a solid game. They gave a 452 yards passing. A lot of it in garbage time. They were up majority of the game. But the Amador-Linor had an interception.
Starting point is 00:03:43 Malik Mustafa had an interception. And those are much needed, much needed for a defense that has not been able to get their hands on very many passes this season. I think that's only their second and third of the season, if I'm not mistaken. Another feel-good game for this team. Going into another, a really, really, really, winnable game against the Carolina Panthers.
Starting point is 00:04:08 You've got to be feeling really confident. You were able to get your starting quarterback back and get him some reps, get his feet wet. You could feel the energy in the stadium. I mean, what do they call this? I mean, it's not Levi's South, but it's Levi's Southeast, I guess. But this is another great game by the San Francisco 49ers.
Starting point is 00:04:32 You feel good. They're seven and four now. with another winnable game right in front of, I guess, the Carolina Panthers. And then you got a tough game against the Browns. And I know you want to say that's an easily winnable game, but any time you got Miles Garrett out there wrecking games like he has against every opponent that he's been,
Starting point is 00:04:52 I think he had four or five sacks today. You've got to be cautious of those games. But a huge performance by the special teams as well. You got to, I mean, after what's been going on in San Francisco, the last few years with special teams, what Eddie Panero's been doing, and I know, I know faithful, he missed a number of PATs today.
Starting point is 00:05:14 And that's, you feel that's unacceptable, but it's fine, it's fine. It didn't end up affecting anything, and he made the field goals that matter. He missed a long 62-yarder. Then there was a penalty that brought it back and he was able to make the next kick. It's great to see our special teams playing as well as they are.
Starting point is 00:05:33 I think another aspect of it that's been really greatly improved is the kick return game. Sky Moore opens this game with a 98-yard kickoff return. Huge play to settle this team down, to have them confident. All Brock Purdy had to do was turn around and hand the ball off to Christian McCaffrey for the first touchdown of the game. Great. The concerning things about this game, no sacks for the defense. the entire game. There was some pressure on Jacoby Brissette,
Starting point is 00:06:08 but he was 47 or 57 for 452, two touchdowns and two interceptions we talked about. They were able to force another fumble that was recovered by Keon White. But I just, they got to find some pass rush. I mean, the trade deadline is passed, so you're not going to be able to look for any talent that way.
Starting point is 00:06:30 They're going to have to get healthier, obviously. but you've got to find some pass rush somewhere. It's not sustainable to play like this. And you can see, as Jacoby Brissette's numbers indicate, if you do not get pressure on the quarterback, they're going to be very effective. Even if it's a backup quarterback in the National Football League, that can be really effective.
Starting point is 00:06:49 And Michael Wilson had the game of his life, 15 catches for 185 yards. Fantastic game for him. Trey McBride, 10 for 115. Those are the things that you worry about that, that are cautionary tails against this team. But there were a lot of positives for this young San Francisco 49ers defense. Curtis Robinson 12 total tackles in the game.
Starting point is 00:07:14 D. Winters, 10 tackles in the game. Nick Martin, seven tackles in the game. And obviously Diomador Lenore with the two interceptions. I thought it was a solid game for them. And I look forward to seeing what they are after heading into the bot. You know, they have two more games. before the buy. If they can find a way to get these two games,
Starting point is 00:07:36 going to the get by nine and four, I don't think Niners fans can be mad about that at all. I think they feel really, really good about that. I think the team would feel confident. I think Kyle Shanahan, if it wasn't for Shane Steichen and Mike Vrable and the seasons their two teams are having unexpectedly, he'd be up for coach of the year, but they're definitely going to give it to those guys
Starting point is 00:07:59 because they're playing fantastic. They're coaching their butts off, and their teams are doing incredibly well as well. Now, for the Seattle Seahawks, the Seattle Seahawks, what a day. What a day. Everything that could go wrong offensively went wrong. Everything that could go wrong for Sam Donald in this game went wrong.
Starting point is 00:08:32 They're playing against a division. division rival for the division lead. They play as bad as they can play offensively, and they lose by two points. I know you don't like to hear silver linings and all that, but I know this defense and Mike McDonald, after they made their adjustments, they had some tough drives. I mean, they stopped them on the first drive of the game, fourth down, goal line stand, and then Sam Donald turns the ball over. they get it back inside the five and they go score.
Starting point is 00:09:07 I don't put that on the defense. It's a tough game. What are you expecting to do? They just made a stop. And even then, it took to fourth down again for the Rams to get in. That's not a way you're going to live and die in this league. You're not going to have success trying to live that way continually. They had another good drive against the defense later in the game,
Starting point is 00:09:30 but the four interceptions are with allowed the Rams to be in the position they were in for the most part in this game. I thought the defense played outstanding, huge play by Kobe Bryant after a Sam Darno interception that really was able to somewhat quell the momentum for this team, this Rams team. But I think this is still a confidence boost for the Seattle Seahawks. And kudos to the Rams.
Starting point is 00:09:58 The Rams won this game. They did good enough. enough offensively. They made the plays that were there. Polka and the cool played a fantastic game. Had a lot of yak in this game. Sam Darnold steled threw for 279 and had a great drive when they needed it to get the one and only touchdown of the game and then tried to get them in position after a great punt by the Rams punter to pin them inside the one-yard line. It would have been a tall task for them to drive, but they did their best.
Starting point is 00:10:32 Kenneth Walker had a satellite game running in a football. The concerning part, again, same as it was for the San Francisco 49ers, is with this elite pass rush and defensive line of the Seattle Seahawks, they were unable to generate one sack in this game. They were able to generate a turnover. And honestly, keep Matt Stafford in check most of the game. He was 15 and 28 for 130 yards and two touchdowns. Kairn Williams was able to run a ball 12 carries for 91 yards in the touchdown.
Starting point is 00:11:07 That was the issue throughout this game. Pookin Nicole had a couple end of rounds that he was able to get some yards drawn. But I think for the most part, they did a good job holding the receivers in check, making stops in the second half. They played a really great game. But those four interceptions are tough to overcome for anybody. Cameron Kitchens had two. Darius Williams had one.
Starting point is 00:11:32 Kobe Durant had another. And you just, it's tough. Anytime you lose the turnover battle in that, and that drastic of a way, it's going to be tough to win that game. And you don't get enough turnovers yourself. But all that being said, the Seattle defense showed that they're a championship caliber defense,
Starting point is 00:11:52 that they can make stops, get stops on third down. You're not going to have a situation where everybody's going to be going for it on fourth down, the way Sean McVeigh did today. And usually when they do, your offense is going to punish them. They weren't able to today. JSN with another 100-yard game to continue his streak of fantastic play this season. It's fine.
Starting point is 00:12:17 Stay calm, Seahawks fans. It's going to be okay. It's going to be okay. This team is still, I'm just as confident in this team as I was before this game started and maybe even a little more so because I know they can overcome adversity. This is a road game against a really tough opponent and you turn the ball over four times.
Starting point is 00:12:40 If you don't turn the ball over four times, I think the Seahawks easily win this game, but they did turn it over four times. And it was forced turnovers. The Rams executed the Seahawks offense did not. So give them credit. But the Seahawks still went and had a chance to win this game, I'll be it on a very long field goal.
Starting point is 00:13:00 So it takes some solace in that, Seahawks fans. This team can compete with anybody, and I felt that way before the game. I still feel that way after the game. I'm sure there's some plays they want back. I'm sure there's some plays Mike McDonnell wants back for this defense, but to hold Matthew Stafford, who came into the game as the leading candidate
Starting point is 00:13:19 in betting odds for MVP of the league to hold him to 130 yards and two touchdowns, is a great performance. And Sam Donald isn't going to play that bad. I don't think ever again. I think he'll learn from these mistakes. And I know Minnesota Vikings fans are like, oh, man, this is what we let him go.
Starting point is 00:13:39 Please, just shut up. Please, please just shut up. You guys have no room to talk, no room to speak. You're four and six with the Green Bay Packers coming into town. You've got to go play the Green Bay Packers, and you're likely going to be four and seven. So I hear all this about, oh, man, he played such. your great season for us last year only to play terrible in the playoffs.
Starting point is 00:14:00 You're saying that as though you have improved in some respect. Now you're in a position where you won't make the playoffs. So I guess you won't have to deal with the quarterback potentially not playing well in the playoffs because you won't be there. So is that a better solution, Minnesota Vikings fans? I highly doubt it. So please just stay out of it right now. Your team should have kept Sam Darnold in the story.
Starting point is 00:14:21 It would have been better for both sides. Sam Darnold has continued to thrive, had a really rough. outing, bad outing this week, and will be criticized as such. I'm sure he'll take his chair to blame. He'll understand that. He'll stand up to the pony of him and take his responsibility for those interceptions because they were horrid interceptions. I mean, it wasn't tip balls or anything, just bad decision after bad decision after
Starting point is 00:14:44 bad decision. And he had all a bad, no good, very bad day that he wants back and his team still lost by two. I think the Seattle Seahawks are still happy that they have Sam Donald at quarterback. I think they feel really good about this team as they should. Huge news. We created our own podcast called Hey Jonas. We invented a podcast. Well, we didn't invent it. We just contributed to a podcast.
Starting point is 00:16:40 Pretty, yeah, pretty wide range of podcasts throughout there. But this one's extra special. So how do we actually come up with a name Hey Jonas, guys? I honestly don't remember I think it was on a call about what we should call it And we were thinking I'm originally calling it One of the early names of our band
Starting point is 00:16:59 Before Jonas Brothers This is how you guys remember it going down Yes I have a very different memory of this We were talking about a thing A bit for the podcast For people could call in and say hey Jonas And then I wrote down on my little notepad Hey Jonas and offered it up as a potential title
Starting point is 00:17:16 For the podcast But thanks for remembering that Listen to Hey Jonas on the Iheart radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcast. Just listen. We don't care where you hear it. Hey, I'm Joe Dono. You might know me as that loud guy who yells out, help on the internet. Help! Somebody! Please! But there's so much more to me than that. I'm an actor. I'm a comedian. And recently, I've become quite the helper myself. And on my new podcast, Hope from a Hypocrite, I'll be changing lives.
Starting point is 00:17:45 helping people in need with my sage advice and thoughtful solutions. Sike, I'm a comedian. I'm not qualified to give good advice. Join me and my comedian friends as we riff, rant, recommend some of the most legally dubious advice known to man. If I'm calling you, even if you're on your phone, let it ring twice. One ring is too scary.
Starting point is 00:18:08 Oh, cream a chicken suit. Hey, cream, cream a chicken suit. This is help from a hypocrite. The worst advice. from the dumbest people you know. Listen to Help from Hypocrite as part of the Mike Cultura Podcast Network available on the IHart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts.
Starting point is 00:18:26 What's up, fam, it's Isaiah Thomas. And I'm C.J. Toledano, and our podcast, Point Game is about defying the odds. Like LeBron heading into the playoffs without Luca and Austin Reed. And finding ways to win no matter what. He's the smartest player to ever play the game. His IQ is at a level that we've never seen before. And he knows without Luca and Austin. Reeves, I got to manipulate the game.
Starting point is 00:18:48 We get a player's perspective on the challenges of the playoffs. I think Joker's going to be exhausted this series because when they don't have Rudy in the lineup, he has to really guard guys like Nas Reid. He has to guard Julius Randall. And then he has to give us everything he gives us on the night-to-night basis on offense. And when IT's friends stop by, like Quentin Richardson, we dive into some playoff history too. Steve Nash would get that thing. That man, hell get the flying.
Starting point is 00:19:13 He running up the court, licking his fingers why he got to. at the ball like, after you go through a training camp with that, Isaiah, you figure it out real quick. Get your ass up and down the court, and you're going to get the ball. So listen to Point Game on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. This is Saigon, the story of my family and of the country that shaped us. The United States will not stand by and allow any power, however great, take over another country. From IHeart Podcast, Saigon. Allow me to introduce Joseph Sherman.
Starting point is 00:19:47 You don't think I'm serious about a free Vietnam? I should stop talking so much. I like hearing you talk. One city, a divided country, and the war that tore America apart. This is for Vietnam. I've taken a hit from Japanese ground fire. Do you rate me? They're pouring petrol all over him.
Starting point is 00:20:04 He's holding matches. I'm on a landmine. Four free time. Let's get out. Freedom from Vietnam. Saigon. starring Kelly Marie Tran and Rob Benedict. Sting here's madness.
Starting point is 00:20:18 The world should hear about this. There's a fire coming to this country and it's going to burn out everything. Listen to Saigon on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. This week on Crimless, we're joined by our first ever guest. Sorry, our first ever human guest. I don't think I could be in the same room with Shamrock the pair. I'd be too nervous. That's right. The very funny Will Ferrell joins Rory Scoble and me, Josh Dean,
Starting point is 00:20:50 for an episode dedicated to the many crimes committed by people also named Will Ferrell. They called to his fellow officer for the nippers. What are the nippers? Very good question. No, I was thinking, would that be a good name for like a salad dressing? Simple assault. And it's a play on word, salt? Maybe not.
Starting point is 00:21:10 I say we invest and we see. There's only one way to know. This did not amuse the cops. By the way, normally the cops are amused. but this did not abuse the cops. Will even comes clean about some of his own crimes. I didn't get caught. You know why? If you don't want to be suspected of anything, you whistle as you walk.
Starting point is 00:21:31 Listen to Crime List on the Iheart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcast. The next game we're going to talk about is the Buffalo Beals versus the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Baker Mayfield has been having a really good season as well. Well, struggled a little bit in his game 16 to 28, 173, the touchdown and the one interception. They did run the ball pretty well in this game, which it was a back and forth game. The score doesn't indicate how close it was early on, but they were battling throughout this game. And Sean Tucker had a nice game, 19 carries for 106 and the two touchdowns.
Starting point is 00:22:18 also had a receiving touchdown. Sterling Shepherd had four catch for 54 yards. But again, this receiving core is banged up. The running backs are banged up. You're missing Bucky Irving. And obviously Mike Evans is out for the season. Chris Godwin was out this game. So Emmanuel, I mean, Emeka, Buka was held to five for 40 yards. Again, still just a rookie receiver. And having a fantastic. season, but he's going to have games like this. It's the defense for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. That's the biggest concern, giving them 44 yards to the Buffalo Bills. Not that the Buffalo Bills aren't a good team, but we've seen them be held and checked before.
Starting point is 00:23:04 We saw them get held in check just last week against the Miami Dolphins. They were held to 13 points. So a team that got held to 13 points the week before against a Miami Dolphins defense that has been relatively benign. to go to the Buffalo, I mean, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers who have been considered contenders for a lot of this season and for them to give up 44 points. I'm sure Todd Bowles is incredibly concerned and frustrated with that game. Josh Allen had an MVP-type performance, 19 for 30 for 317, three touchdowns passing. He did throw two interceptions, but he also had three touchdowns on the game, which ended up being a big difference in this game.
Starting point is 00:23:47 I think he's only a second quarterback to do it. And I forget who the other quarterback is. To have three passing touchdowns and three rushing touchdowns. I want to say it was a Fitzmagic, but I don't want to give Fitzmajohners, that kind of credit. But I think it was Fitzmajord. We can't get Fitzmaj, that kind of credit. But again, those are the things that you can't have if you're a Tampa Bay team that wants to compete for the Super Bowl this year. But again, they're banged up.
Starting point is 00:24:17 offensively. They're doing the best they can. They've got to find a way defensively to get more pressure on Josh Allen to keep points off the board more than anything. You can't give up 44 points and expect to be a contender in this league, unfortunately. But the Buffalo Bills have a big rebound game. And Josh Allen looked like an MVP in his game, carried his team on his back. James Cook 16 carries 48 yards, also receiving touchdown 66 yards through the air. Shavers had four reception for 90 yards. They were without Keon Coleman for, I guess, undisclosed reason. I mean, there's speculation that he missed a meeting and that they set him for that.
Starting point is 00:25:03 Those are team rules. You've got to follow the rules. So we'll see how that goes. They were able to win the game. So it's not as big of a story. If they lose that game, it's much bigger a story. but the Bucks play the Rams next in another tough game for them. The Bills go to the Texans on Thursday night football.
Starting point is 00:25:21 We'll be there starting our show at 7 p.m. Eastern. We will see you there. I can't wait to call it. I'm doing a feature on a few Texans players. So please check that out if y'all get a chance. But this Bills team, the thing I worry about most with this Bills team is you're getting in a lot of shootouts with great teams. and how often are you going to ruin those shootouts?
Starting point is 00:25:44 Can you keep winning shootout after shootout after shootout? And when you can't score on offense, like when they have an off day like they did against the Miami Dolphins, does that defense have enough to get the stops that they need to win those games? That's going to be the question. That's going to get answered not until the playoffs. I don't think it gets answered until we get in those critical situations where we're going to see.
Starting point is 00:26:07 And another big game this week, the Packers beat the Giants and what was a tougher game than I thought it would be for the Green Bay Packers and how critical I've been of Jordan Love. And now people are like, oh, what did you think of him against the Giants? Guys, I love the Giants as much as anybody. And I was happy to hear their story and see them continue to battle with Jackson Dart at quarterback. I expected a fun game from James Winston, and it was that. It was that.
Starting point is 00:26:43 He didn't throw for a touchdown, but they scored 20 points, 19 to 29, 201 yards, and he threw an interception. Tyrone Tracy, 18 carries for 88 yards. They battle. They battle, but they're a team that has not won a lot of games this season. There are a two-win team playing against the Packers who most people, including myself, believe are Super Bowl contenders, but the quarterback situation. And I know people are saying, oh, man.
Starting point is 00:27:14 Did you see Jordan Love? He carried the team. I mean, 13 to 24, 174, and two touchdowns, and I watched the game. Number of drops from his receivers. Also, a couple of spectacular catches, especially the Christian Watson catch for his, I believe, second touchdown was a fantastic catch over double coverage. You can't play it any better than that. You can't catch any better than that.
Starting point is 00:27:39 And that's one you got to give to the receiver for making a play. And you got to give Jordan Love credit for Douglass. giving them a chance with that football. But again, it's going to come down to this quarterback, regardless of how you guys feel about it, good, bad or indifferent. It's going to come down to that. Now, the Matt LaFleur thing, I don't like because a number of plays were schemed wide open in this game, and they executed.
Starting point is 00:28:10 Of those 13 completions, I'd say six or seven of them. were schemed open. One of the touchdowns, the tight-in was schemed wide open, wide open, which is fine. It's not going to always be that way. You're not going to be playing these Giants in the playoffs. The teams you're going to play in the playoffs could be the Detroit Lions. It could be the Philadelphia Eagles again. It could, who just held him to seven points.
Starting point is 00:28:41 It could be the Seattle Seahawks, who I think would feel really good playing this Green Bay Packers team. it could be the Rams. It could be the Rams defense. And are you confident that you could go into L.A. and beat the Rams? Are you confident you can go into Seattle and beat the Seahults with Jordan Love at quarterback? And I don't need you to answer it for me in the comments or anything like that. Answer it for yourself because that's all that matters. You can lie to me, but just don't lie to yourself because I don't see it yet.
Starting point is 00:29:08 I don't see the confidence yet. I see the immense talent. That's not hard to see. immense talent. Can throw the, put the ball anywhere on the field. Can move around with the best of them? Really athletic. Great arm.
Starting point is 00:29:23 Can he execute down the stretch in critical games when the game is on the line? I had not seen it in the playoffs. I saw it in one playoff game. I think it was against Dallas. And everybody knows Dallas's reputation in the playoffs. But I have yet to see it against anybody else. So until we can see that, their jury's out. I'm sorry.
Starting point is 00:29:45 They gave him a lot of money, and they have not seen it. And I hear everybody talking about Sam Donald struggled in the playoffs. He did all that. I watched Jordan Love struggling in the playoffs last year. When his team got there against the eventual Super Bowl champion, Philadelphia Eagles, three interceptions in that game, no touchdowns. He was an Uber conservative in his last game against him. He didn't throw any interceptions.
Starting point is 00:30:10 Didn't throw any touchdowns. You're going to have to find the middle ground there. You're going to have to find a way to, execute without turning the football over and score points. That's going to be the question. That's going to be the thing for LaFleur. This was a good game for the Packers. They played a Minnesota Vikings next game, a game against a defense that had been
Starting point is 00:30:33 up and down this season, but Brian Flores is definitely going to bring pressure, a division game. It'll be back and forth. They got a young quarterback who's been hot and cold. He turned the ball over two times in this game. against the Chicago Bears this week, played well in the fourth, played well in the fourth quarter, was able to help them come back in this game, but still 17 points, not enough to beat the Chicago Bears. So I think they should feel good about the next couple games.
Starting point is 00:31:01 I think they beat the Vikings in this game, but it's a division game, and you know how those go. We've seen it countless times. We saw weird upsets in division games throughout this season, and I think that will continue to be the case. I still feel like the Green Bay Packers will be able to win against the Minnesota Vikings. When we get to see Jordan Love in the playoffs, and if he executes well, he will get all the credit in the world. That's what it will be. I'm sorry, Green Bay fans, that's what it's going to be.
Starting point is 00:31:34 That's what it's going to have to be. And until then, the jury will be out. The jury's not out for you guys because your franchise paid in $55 million, you got to feel good about it. You don't have a choice. You're locked in for a while. I, on the other hand, have a choice. I'm going to get to watch and see.
Starting point is 00:31:52 And everybody's wondering, why aren't you giving Sam Donald the same criticism? Because with great pay comes great criticism. Sam Donald, making, I think, $37 million. Playing at $37 million. He has 17 touchdown passes, 10 interceptions. His team is 7 and 3. I think they feel really good about what they got.
Starting point is 00:32:18 If he was playing, if he was getting paid $55 million, which is in the top two of the national football league, I would expect top two level play from Zandarle. That's just how it is in my book. Maybe my book's not perfect, but that's the way I feel about it. Hey, it's us, the Jonas brothers, and guess what? We have some big news. What's the news, huge news?
Starting point is 00:32:39 We created our own podcast called, Hey, Jonas. We invented a podcast? Well, we didn't invent it. We just contributed to it. We're the first people to do podcasts. Pretty, yeah, pretty wide range of podcasts throughout there. But this one's extra special. So how do we actually come up with a name, Hey Jonas, guys?
Starting point is 00:32:56 I honestly don't remember. I think it was on a call about what we should call it. Well, we were thinking I'm originally calling it one of the early names of our band before Jonas Brothers. This is how you guys remember it going down? Yes. I have a very different memory of this. We were talking about a thing. a bit for the podcast for people could call in and say, Hey Jonas.
Starting point is 00:33:18 And then I wrote down on my little notepad, Hey Jonas, and offered it up as a potential title for the podcast. But thanks for remembering that, guys. Listen to Hey Jonas on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcast. Just listen. We don't care where you hear it. Hey, I'm Jared Adano. You might know me as that loud guy who yells out, help on the internet. Help! Somebody! Please! But there's so much more to me than that.
Starting point is 00:33:43 I'm an actor. I'm a comedian. and recently I've become quite the helper myself. And on my new podcast, Hope from a Hypocrite, I'll be changing lives, helping people in need with my sage advice and thoughtful solutions. Sike, I'm a comedian. I'm not qualified to give good advice.
Starting point is 00:34:02 Join me and my comedian friends as we riff rant and recommend some of the most legally dubious advice known to man. If I'm calling you, even if you're on your phone, let it ring twice. One ring is too scary. Cream of chicken suit.
Starting point is 00:34:17 Hey, cream of chicken suit. This is Help from a Hypocrite, the worst advice from the dumbest people you know. Listen to Help from Hypocrite as part of the Mike Coutura Podcast Network available on the I-Hart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. What's up, fam? It's Isaiah Thomas. And I'm C.J. Toledano,
Starting point is 00:34:37 and our podcast Point Game is about defining the odds. Like LeBron heading into the playoffs without Luca and Austin Reed. And finding ways to win no matter what. He's the smartest player to ever play the game. His IQ is at a level that we've never seen before. And he knows without Luca and Austin Reeves, I got to manipulate the game. We get a player's perspective on the challenges of the playoffs.
Starting point is 00:34:58 I think Joker's going to be exhausted this series because when they don't have Rudy in the lineup, he has to really guard guys like Nas Reid. He has to guard Julius Randall. And then he has to give us everything he gives us on the night-to-night basis on offense. And when IT's friends stop by, like Quentin Richardson, We dive into some playoff history too.
Starting point is 00:35:17 Steve Nash will get that thing. That man, hell get the flying. He running up the court, licking his fingers, why he got the ball. Like, after you go through a training camp with that, Isaiah, you figure it out real quick. Oh, yeah. Get your ass up and down the court, and you're going to get the ball. So listen to Point Game on the Iheart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. This is Saigon, the story of my family and of the country that shaped us.
Starting point is 00:35:43 The United States will not. stand by and allow any power, however great, take over another country. From My Heart Podcasts, Saigon. Please allow me to introduce Joseph Sherman. You don't think I'm serious about a free Vietnam? I should stop talking so much. I like hearing you talk. One city, a divided country, and the war that tore America apart.
Starting point is 00:36:05 This is for Vietnam. I've taken a hit from Japanese ground fire. Do you rate me? They're pouring petrol all over him. He's holding matches. I'm on a landmine Or freedom! Let's get out!
Starting point is 00:36:18 Freedom, bomb it, nah! Run! Cigone, starring Kelly Marie Tran and Rob Benedict. Sting here's madness. The world should hear about this. There's a fire coming to this country and it's going to burn out everything. Sorry, our first ever human guest. I don't think I could be in the same room with Shamrock the parrot. I'd be too nervous. That's right.
Starting point is 00:36:54 The very funny, Will Ferrell joins Rory Scovel and me, Josh Dean, for an episode dedicated to the many crimes committed by people also named Will Ferrell. They called to his fellow officer for the nippers. What are the nippers? Very good question. No, I was thinking, would that be a good name for like a salad dressing? Simple assault. And it's a play on word, salt?
Starting point is 00:37:16 Maybe not. I say we invest and we see. There's only one way to know. This did not amuse the cops. By the way, normally the cops are amused, but this did not abuse the cops. Will even comes clean about some of his own crimes. I didn't get caught. You know why?
Starting point is 00:37:33 If you don't want to be suspected of anything, you whistle as you walk. Listen to crime lists on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcast, or wherever you get your podcast. The next game in the ASC North, the Bears. and the Vikings. The Bears have won seven of their last eight games. I'm sure Ben Johnson is feeling great. You could see Caleb Williams after the game, did not feel good about his performance,
Starting point is 00:38:01 no emotion after the game winning field goal. I don't think he felt like it should come down to that. But they're learning to win, and they're building winning habits. DeAndre Swift had a good game, 21 carries for 90 yards, Cole commit, five carries for 45, I mean, five catches for 45 yards.
Starting point is 00:38:19 And on the other side, J.J. McCarthy, 16 for 32, 150, a touchdown and two interceptions. Aaron Jones, 16 carries for 70 yards, did have a fumble in the game. But the story for the Minnesota Vikings this week is the quarterback and Justin Jefferson. For the quarterback, I said it earlier in the show. I still feel like they should have kept Sam Dornado. I will say that until the Cowks come home. People say they should have kept Daniel Jones as well. He took a little less money to go to the Indianapolis Colts for a chance to start
Starting point is 00:38:59 because he knew how they felt about J.J. McCarthy. Were they right about J.J. McCarthy? We'll never know. He's still pretty much, I mean, pretty much a rookie. I mean, a red shirt rookie hasn't played a lot of football. But again, when the expectations are so high because the team, team is ready made to win, a team that just had a 14 and three season, that expectations are higher, sort of criticism is going to come with it. Now, you give, be patient with J.J. McCarthy, but again, what did we see in college that made
Starting point is 00:39:34 us think, hey, this guy is going to be a real perennial passer in the national football league, not a ton. It wasn't a lot at Michigan that gave you the impression that he was going to come up here and light up the national football league? he's playing pretty much like he did it in Michigan without a great run game, without, you know, and a defense is trying to support him, but if they don't play well enough, they're not winning. And so I think J.J. McCarthy is going to have a hard time in this league because you're not
Starting point is 00:40:08 going to find much better of a play caller than Kevin O'Connell. You're not. It no matter where you are. And you're not going to find much better of a situation to walk into as a rookie. that gets drafted in the first round than the Minnesota Vikings are. And they're not going to, you've got one of the best receivers of the National Football League, a great tandem. You got weapons around you. I think you got a good back in the backfield.
Starting point is 00:40:34 You might have considered two good backs in the backfield. But when you have drives in the second quarter with back-to-back interceptions, you make it hard to win these games. And I know he's young. And we got to give him time to grow. But we don't have time in this. League, not 14 that made the decision to move on for a quarterback that took him
Starting point is 00:40:55 to a 14 and 3 season. Again, that's the kind of decision that sets a franchise back because if he never develops into what Sam Donald was, then it's a waste. Then you just wasted some of Justin Jefferson's prime
Starting point is 00:41:12 and I think that's what makes him frustrated because he cannot see the vision right now. He had a fantastic season last year with Sam Donald. he could do nothing about the front office making the decision that they made. And I know people are like, well, Sam took a different offer for Seattle. You don't let Sam take that offer. You franchise him and then negotiate.
Starting point is 00:41:31 He can't walk away. You franchise tagging, he can't walk. And you can negotiate. He'll likely sign a good deal and then you take the franchise tag off him. It's good to go. But when you play this game, when you play this game and you say, hey, we're going to let him walk. we're going to let Daniel Jones walk. And the quarterback that you pick does not work out.
Starting point is 00:41:56 It's hard to find answers. Because now what do you do this offseason? Because I don't see the Minnesota Vikings recovering from this and going to the playoffs. I'm sorry, unless the defense start playing at a really, really high tilt, I don't see them turning this around and get into the playoffs because of how good that the NFC side has been. Got a lot of teams playing well. You got a lot of teams over 500 right now. So it would take it would it would be a Herculean task for them to to chase down the team and win.
Starting point is 00:42:26 You got probably two teams in their own division going to the playoffs and the Packers in the Detroit Lions. The bears, the bears in their own division got, we just talked about them, one seven of eight. They're seven and three. So they're at the top of the division right now. So you're at the bottom of a very difficult division, one of the best divisions in football, and you have uncertainty at quarterback. That's a bad place to be. And I know Vikings fans are like,
Starting point is 00:42:53 oh man, Sam Dardo, he struggled today. He's still better than the quarterback you have. Oh, man, Sam Darno had four interceptions. See why we got rid of him? No, I don't see it. I don't see why you got rid of him. Because you have no chance. You had 14 and 3 and he struggled in a playoff game.
Starting point is 00:43:07 Okay. I've watched quarterback struggling playoff games. Jared Golf didn't play a great game. Not a lot of quarterbacks from the NFC North played well in the playoffs last year. Okay. Does that mean get rid of them all? Let them all walk?
Starting point is 00:43:21 No, you're trying to mask your pain. And I understand that. I've been there. I've been there before. You mask your pain a little bit. It's like, oh, look, look, look. They're struggling. Look, that's why we got rid of them just to mask the tears that you,
Starting point is 00:43:33 when you watch your team that you have. I'm with your Minnesota Vikings fans. I think you got a really good team. I think the quarterback is going to be the issue. And you're going to have to make a decision for another quarterback next season. Is it going to be Mack Jones and you're going to have to trade picks to get Mac Jones in that system because he's thrived in a system similar to what Kevin O'Connell wants to do for the Minnesota Vikings? Maybe. There are a number of quarterbacks,
Starting point is 00:43:59 but the fact that that's going to be a conversation is telling you, it may have been the wrong decision to let Sam Darnold and Daniel Jones walk. That's all I'm saying. Good game by the Chicago Bears and Caleb Williams and just another good win. I can't keep saying good game because it's not always a great game, but they keep finding a way to win. And when you're winning in this league, that's all that matters. The Bears got a tough game against the Steelers next week. You never know what you're getting with the Steelers team. Honestly, you know, they've been playing really well defensively the last few weeks.
Starting point is 00:44:34 It seems like they figured it out. Tomlin has figured out what to do with these guys to get them motivated, to get them where they need to be. And I'm looking forward to the Bears against them because they've just found a way to do good enough to win these games, whether it's a big time, high point shootout or a low-scoring game where you win on a walk-off field goal they found away. But the Vikings, Vikings got the Green Bay Packers next week, another tough divisional game. What are they going to do to produce points against a defense that's going to bring a lot of pressure?
Starting point is 00:45:05 Your offensive line isn't great. And those guys are going to be hungry. Michael Parsons is going to be hungry. He needs his stats. And we're Sean Gary's going to be hungry. We'll see how that game goes. I'm looking forward to it. You know why I'm obsessed with GLD, especially this time of year?
Starting point is 00:45:20 Buying men's jewelry used to be a nightmare. It was either chief stuff that broke in a week or some overpriced chain that blew your whole budget. Exactly. That's why I rock with GLD, Mitchell. They changed the game. Real quality that's built to last without maxing out your car. And it's real gold, too, Richard. No cheap hollow nonsense.
Starting point is 00:45:40 Every stone is handset. Look, Richard, what do you think of this, man? You can feel the weight. Tell me this wouldn't be the perfect holiday gift. Come on, man. That looks clean, Mitchell. It looks crazy on camera, but it looks even better in person. And GLD has everything.
Starting point is 00:45:57 Chains, pendants, earrings, rings, iced out watches. One stop, and your whole list is done. And Richard, you know how a new chain hits. The fit looks better. The confidence jumps. People notice. People noticed me last night when I was wearing this. I'll tell you that.

They got over 2 million customers, over 50,000 five-star reviews, plus Justin Bieber, Micah Parsons, Tyreek Hill, Malik Navers, Aesop Rocky. Everybody's rocking GLD. And I'm rocking it too, Richard. And they got every price point, from the 18-carogold plated stuff, to the solid gold and natural diamonds. They'll even make a custom one-of-one piece for you, Richard. Starting point is 00:47:01 They'll make that custom one piece for you. Well, I might have to check that out. But every piece that they have is guaranteed for life. Wow. And this holiday, don't just give jewelry, give something that lasts forever with G. Work hard and change the game. GLD's holiday deal is unbeatable.
Starting point is 00:47:21 For a limited time only, new customers get 50% off, plus a free chain at gldd.com when you use code Richard. That's 50% off in a free chain when you use the code Richard at glde.com. After your purchase, they'll ask you where you heard about them. Please, please support the show. Tell them we sent you. Richard, I got two chains on right now from GLD. And these are classy.
Starting point is 00:47:50 These are clean. They're neat. They're nice. You can wear them out. Any attire you want. I love rocking these things. Check them out, guys. Another, another contending team coming into this season that is struggling,
Starting point is 00:48:06 and they are in trouble right now, are the Kansas City Chiefs. The Denver Broncos found a way to beat the Kansas City Chiefs. They won this game, 21 to 19, walk off field goal, and they are now 9 and 2, and the Chiefs. 10 games into the season are 5005 and 5 in play and have no control over their destiny or their ability to make the playoffs this year. They're going to need a lot of help from a lot of, there's a lot of different scenarios. If certain teams win, they're out. If they need a few losses here and there, Jacksonville maybe to lose a couple. the chargers to keep losing,
Starting point is 00:48:49 but it's no straight path to the playoffs for the Chiefs. And you really start to get concerned when you look at the way they lost. You know, Patrick Mahones was under duress. A lot of this game just does not look comfortable defensively. We watched the Broncos and Bo Nicks struggle royally against the Las Vegas Raiders on Thursday night football. And today he throws for $2.95.
Starting point is 00:49:15 He throws for 295 yards. And those are the things that you're like, okay, you know, it can go either way in a division. But you wonder, is this the chief defense of old? Is this a Spag's defense that we've come to know that has been really, really effective and been championship caliber year after year, week after week? Is it that same defense? Are you getting that same championship effort from these guys? and unfortunately, it looks like there's a changing of the guard in the AFC West.
Starting point is 00:49:49 It looks like the Denver Broncos. I can't say it looks like they are the class of the AFC West right now. They're on top of the division and they're dominating. Give them a lot of credit. Their defense, the Denver Broncos defense is legitimate. They sack Patrick Mahon three times in this game. And then offensively, they were held in check. The run game was held in check.
Starting point is 00:50:12 but Bo Nix made enough plays to win this game. Hey, it's us to Jonas Brothers, and guess what? We have some big news. What's the news, name? Huge news. We created our own podcast called, Hey Jonas. We invented a podcast? Well, we didn't invent it.

Listen to crime lists on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcast. So what's, what, what do the Kansas City Chiefs do from here? Again, you can't trade for anybody. People are starting to get cut. They're getting some reinforcements from the free agency market. Some of their old guys, they're old players, mostly D. Lyman are asking for releases and getting them, uh, and they're picking them up. But, The Chiefs got the Indianapolis Colts next week. And the Indianapolis Colts have been one of the best teams in football.
Starting point is 00:55:55 You're looking at the Chief's team that is struggling back against the ropes, playing against a team that looks incredibly complete. They look like, I mean, a team that could potentially be going to the Super Bowl this year if they can continue it through the playoffs, which is a big if. What do the Kansas City, what does, what do the Kansas City Chief? do in this situation because this is the Forkeran Road. And I know we've talked about it before. Every season, there's some kind of lull in the season
Starting point is 00:56:33 where you think the Kansas City Chiefs have struggled and they're okay, they're this, they're that, but they're going to find a way at the end of the season to win. Hey, the Kansas City Chiefs, Patchamon is throwing the most interceptions. But yada, yada, yada, they're going to find a way to win at the end of the season. You say, hey, man, the offense doesn't look great, but the defense is world class. They're going to find a way to win and yada, yada, yada, yada.
Starting point is 00:56:54 They're 500 right now, and I do not see a path for them. I don't see a path. I don't see things improving in the way they're going to need to for the Kansas City Chiefs to be in the playoffs. I mean, forget Super Bowl. This may be the first year they missed the playoffs, and that's not what I was expecting to say coming into this season. Obviously, they got a tough game against the Indianapolis Colts next week.
Starting point is 00:57:17 they got a winnable game against the Dallas Cowboys, but who knows how they're going to play in that game? I mean, it's been Jekylland Hyde a little bit, but there are winnable games throughout the rest of the season. They could probably, let's see, I think they lose to the Colts. That will make them five and six. Then they can beat the Cowboys.
Starting point is 00:57:41 Depends on how they play against the Texans. That can go either way. Is C.J. Stroud back? Is their offense playing? Can the Kansas City Chiefs offensive lines hold up? I don't know. We'll call it a win. So that's two wins.
Starting point is 00:57:54 That gets them to seven and six. Then they got the Chargers who are without their two all-world tackles. They can win that game. Eight and six. The Titans, nine and six. I think they lose to the Broncos on Christmas. Then they can beat the Raiders and be 10 and seven. Is that good enough to get them in the playoffs this year?
Starting point is 00:58:17 I guess we'll see. It's going to be tight. It's not going to be like any other year. But again, if the chiefs get in, they're a very dangerous team. They're a team that finds a way to win late in the season. They're a team that knows how to get to Super Bowls, knows how to prepare and knows how to execute down the stretch. But they definitely need the chargers to lose,
Starting point is 00:58:39 which they did today, and the Jags to start losing. I mean, you can't both lose because they played each other today. But they're going to need some help. And I don't know, Chiefs fans. Is this the year they miss it? We going to see. The Steelers finally look like the defensive team. Everybody thought they'd be coming into the season.
Starting point is 00:58:58 They beat the Bengals 34 to 12 to move to 6 and 4 on the season. Are now leading the AFC North and feeling pretty good. Aaron Rogers didn't have his best game and got a little banged up in the game. Mason Rudolph had to come in. He went 12 or 16 for 127 yards. and a touchdown. But the story of this game is, did Jamar Chase spit on Jalen Ramsey? I don't know.
Starting point is 00:59:24 It kind of looked like it. And by Jalen Ramsey's reaction, it looked like something had to happen. You know, he's a guy that plays with a lot of fire and a lot of enthusiasm. But it definitely looked like Chase might have spit on him. But we don't know if he spit on him or not. But if he did, that's uncalled for in this game and you can't have it. But this Pittsburgh defense is playing at a high level, and they have the last couple weeks.
Starting point is 00:59:53 They get two touchdowns in this game, a 73-yard pick six by Kyle Dugger and a 34-yard fumble return by James Pierre. Huge plays by this defense that really helped the struggling offense get its footing in a tough division game. Again, these division games are always going to be a grind. They're going to be back and forth. a brawl, but you got to win it.
Starting point is 01:00:20 And the Pittsburgh Steelers had to have it. They have tough games coming up and that are all musta wins with the Baltimore Ravens right on their heels. They got the Bears who, again, we talked about it, won seven of the last eight and just finding ways to win. The bills who are playing some up and down football, but played a really dominant game versus the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, the team that's been really good offensively this season. And then they got a dog fight of a game in the AFC North Division against the Baltimore Ravens.
Starting point is 01:00:56 That's going to determine their season. That's going to determine a lot of things coming up, how this is seeded, who's going to win this division, et cetera, et cetera. That's wild love November, December football. It always comes down to the wire. The Bengals next game, the Patriots, who've won, I think, eight straight now and look to be the class of the AFC right along with the
Starting point is 01:01:22 Indianapolis Colts. So we'll see. We'll see, Pittsburgh. We'll see if they can continue this. Their next three games will tell the tale. Is Aaron Rogers going to be okay? We'll have all those answers for you by the middle of the week. The next game in the AFC North, the Ravens defeat the Browns.
Starting point is 01:01:46 Lamar Jackson gets sacked five times. I think four of them were Miles Garrett. Derek Henry, 18 carries for 104 yards in a touchdown. The story of this game, Dylan Gabriel knocked out with a concussion. He was 7 to 10 for 68 yards. Shador Sanders comes in, and he struggles. It's tough to come into a game without taking starter reps throughout the season, but he was 4 of 16 for 47 yards in an intersection.
Starting point is 01:02:14 and that's a rough game. Based on how the concussion protocols and everything usually go, I would guess that Dylan Gabriel is probably out another game and Shador Sanders may get his first start of his career next week versus the Raiders. We'll see. I'm excited. Unfortunately, I hope Dylan Gabriel gets healthy. You never want to see injury or a guy go in because of injury.
Starting point is 01:02:43 but if he's out, Shador Sanders gets another opportunity this time with a full week of Sarder reps and a game plan is tailored to his strengths and it's tailored to the way he plays football. And so we'll see. We'll see how that goes. He'll be playing against the Raiders and Pete Carroll,
Starting point is 01:03:02 who may be looking to make a trade or going to make a decision at quarterback for the diss off season. I think they're clearly going to draft one in the first round based on how Gino has been playing. If I'm not mistaken, I've seen they benched Gino right now for Kenny Pickett, I believe. So it'll be a winnable game for the Browns. And if you're going to ask for a team to start against, this is as good of a chance as any for Sjour Sanders.
Starting point is 01:03:32 They don't bring a ton of pressure. They don't do a ton of exotic things on defense. We'll see what he's able to do with it. all odds and lines are brought to you by our partners at hard rock bet we've got the cowboys at the raiders on monday night football tomorrow hard rock bet has the cowboys as a three point spread in this game i think that's accurate i mean i would hope they would would be able to pull away by more the raiders have struggled mildly this year they're going with Kenny Pickett, I believe, at quarterback.
Starting point is 01:04:09 Who knows how that would go? There's some unpredictability there. But you would think with the offensive weapons that the Dallas Cowboys have, they should be able to put up some points and really, really pull away from this Raiders team that struggled offensively and struggled to put points up this season. We'll see. We'll see. But that's what DeBoid thinks is going to happen.
Starting point is 01:04:31 Am I right? Am I wrong? the stats will tell the story. I appreciate you guys joining me, as always. You could be anywhere in the world, but you're here with me, and I surely do appreciate it. We will see you next week.
