The Herd with Colin Cowherd - Richard Sherman Podcast - NFL Week 7 Reaction: Giants-Broncos, Colts-Chargers, Chiefs-Raiders, Eagles-Vikings & More | Richard Sherman NFL

Episode Date: October 20, 2025

Week 7 delivered pure NFL chaos and Richard Sherman is breaking down every storyline across the league. Sherm and Mitchell dive into the Giants’ historic fourth-quarter collapse, the Denver come...back, and whether Jaxson Dart is the real future in New York before shifting to Indianapolis, where the Colts suddenly look like the AFC’s most complete team behind Daniel “Indiana Jones” and Jonathan Taylor. They react to Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs waking up in dominating fashion, Maxx Crosby wasting greatness in Vegas, and the Eagles surviving but still showing major flaws. Sherman also weighs in on Drake May and the Patriots’ resurgence, the Bears quietly stacking wins, and whether Jordan Love can truly lead Green Bay. The conversation heats up as they debate the Micah Parsons trade, question whether the Cowboys really benefited, and then turn to Miami’s meltdown, Tua’s struggles, and how hot Mike McDaniel’s seat now is. Listen to help from Hippocrite Wednesdays on the Iheart radio app, Apple podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Welcome back to the Richard Chairman podcast.
Starting point is 00:02:18 And it's week seven, Mitchell, chaos in the NFL. Who's a contender? Who's a pretender? You really don't know. But what I do know is New York, the Giants might have found them one. I think the Giants did find them one of Jackson Dartman. Holy cow, what a game for the New York Giants of Fortunately for them, talk about blunders, Richard. They give up 33 points in the fourth quarter. And I know you as a defensive back, before we get to this game, let's talk about a specific play because it comes down to the wire. The Giants are trailing and they throw a deep ball up on the right side.
Starting point is 00:02:57 Riley Moss gets flagged at the one-yard line with PI. On a back shoulder fade, I guess, if you want to call it that, a ball that was thrown underneath the receiver and the refs bail them out. I know you did not like that call. And ultimately, I think karma, you know, awarded the Broncos with a big time victory. Richard, your thoughts on that play and your thoughts on this game. Yeah, it was an incredible game. I mean, early on, you thought, hey, the Giants, it looks like their day.
Starting point is 00:03:28 You know, it couldn't go better for them. Jackson Dart had some real, real great passes. got some things. Didn't use his legs a ton. Got a little banged up. Theo Johnson catches a tip pass from Wondale Robinson, and you think, oh, my God, this is the Giants Day. Then Denver wakes up in the fourth quarter,
Starting point is 00:03:49 33 points in the fourth were all the way back and win this game. But the play you're talking about was the penultimate drive of the game. And Riley Moss, I don't, you know, I hate to be cliche, but I don't think he could have played that any better. You're playing through the receiver, look, look back for the ball, swipe through the receiver, and it's incomplete. It looks like a no play. Like, hey, I've seen worse things happen and not be called. But these underthrown PIs are the death of me.
Starting point is 00:04:22 Like, they're going to be the death of this game because it's detrimental to the game because you only, you're rewarding the offense for bad play. you're rewarding offense. It's hard enough play to make. I challenge anybody to go outside and have somebody run a route and then have somebody underthrow it. And I want to see you either stop them from catching it or defend it without P.I.
Starting point is 00:04:45 And then you'll finally understand how hard it is to play defensive back in this league. And for Riley Moss to look back through in that critical situation and for them to throw the flag, oh, I don't think it's good for the game, man. I don't think it's good for the game. But, you know, what?
Starting point is 00:04:59 Football has a way of evening itself out and figuring it out. And the Broncos came back. Boenix played a really good game in the second half, especially the fourth quarter, I would say. He threw two TVs. He threw the ball 50 times, 279, two touchdowns. They started to hand the ball to J.K. Dobbins a little bit more.
Starting point is 00:05:20 He ended up with 14 carries for 81 yards. And the defense showed up. They got a critical interception in that fourth quarter, a big-time interception deep in Giants territory, which ended up being. incredibly helpful to their comeback effort. They had four sacks in the game, obviously coming in with the lead sack getter, Nick Benito, one of the best corners in the National Football League,
Starting point is 00:05:39 if not the best corner, reigning defensive player at a year, Patrick Sertan. And even with all that, it had to come down to the wire, but they were able to make enough plays down a stretch to win this game. That's championship grit. That's a playoff team. That's good coaching. That's good execution. And that's a great learning for this team.
Starting point is 00:06:00 I know this defense is probably going to be kicking themselves, looking at missed opportunities, giving up 32 points in the game. But you'll take learning lessons in a win. No question about it. There's no doubt about it. And especially with the Kansas City Chiefs looking like their old self at four and three now, these Buccaneers need to, or I'm sorry, these Broncos need to keep up with them. Five and two now, this is a huge win.
Starting point is 00:06:22 And this was a win they should have had looking at the schedule. But I tell you what, Richard, the New York Giants, there's something brewing. in New York right now. I mean, albeit with the loss, what they have with Jackson Dart and Cam Scataboo, I mean, as a New York giant fan, you've got to be looking at this team
Starting point is 00:06:41 and saying, hey, I don't know if we're going to make the playoffs anyway, so maybe it's not the worst thing that we take a loss today. Maybe it helps us in the long run. But you've got to look at this team and say, wow, okay, maybe they are onto something.
Starting point is 00:06:55 Yeah, you definitely do. And in the grand scheme of things, this was a loss season for the Giants anyway. You're not expected to win the world. You're not expected. But I think one thing is, it is true is, Day Bowl shouldn't be going anywhere this year. I think they continue, they're going to continue to draft. They're going to have a high draft pick. Unfortunately, I don't think they have the team to necessarily compete, but to compete with a playoff team from last year, a team that is well coached, a team that's expected to be contenders this year, not only for the AFC West, but for potentially the Super Bowl,
Starting point is 00:07:28 especially with that defense for them to come out and play the way they did to hang in there to really dominate for a majority of this game. Jackson Dart seems to be the answer in New York. Obviously, he struggled a little bit late when he got banged up, but he still had three touchdown passes.
Starting point is 00:07:44 He ran one in. That's four touchdowns in the game. Scatible, 16 carries for 60 yards. Tyrone Tracy came back, made an impact, had a 31-yard touchdown in this game, and the defense had a couple of sacks, but Brian Burns got banged up. obviously there's some issues late in the game, but again, this is without Malik neighbors.
Starting point is 00:08:03 This is without Slayton. This is without your go-to guy. So you have to take some solace and knowing that. You did this with Daniel Belliger, Theo Johnson, Wondale Robinson, and no disrespect to those guys, but those aren't your guys. Those aren't your premier players. You expect Malik neighbors to come back and be a big-time guy. I expect them to drag. likely offensive linemen in this draft high up, but I expect him to draft more playmakers. And then defensively, you would expect more pressure, but give Denver Broncos a lot of credit. They played well. The Giants next game, they got the Eagles again, who they just beat on Thursday night.
Starting point is 00:08:45 We had them. The Eagles coming off a really good win where their offense looked really special. Their wide receivers, both of them had over 100 yards in the game. Jalen Hurts threw for over 300 in the game, and he looked really, proficient, especially late in that game. So I'm looking forward to that. Can they match the energy they had against them a couple of weeks ago? We'll see.
Starting point is 00:09:05 The Broncos have the Cowboys who look like an entirely different team than they have in a pass against the Washington Commanders. They played well defensively. Had a pick six. Derron Bland is back in the lineup. Had a pick six. They talked about playing more man coverage and they were able to do it. Obviously, the Washington commanders were without their top three pass catchers.
Starting point is 00:09:24 But still, and obviously, Jay, and Daniels got banged up in this game, but Dak Prescott looks really, really good, Mitchell. No question about it. You want to know who else looks really, really, really good is the Indianapolis Colts. I mean, this team, to me, if you wanted somebody to have to go on the road and prove it,
Starting point is 00:09:45 prove that they're worth this championship contender category, it was the Annapolis Colts. And now they're six and one. They go on the road to the L.A. Chargers and they take care of business. I mean, they dominated this game, Richard. Your boy, Indiana Jones, Daniel Jones, putting out another clinic. And then his running mate, Mr. Taylor, I mean, Jonathan Taylor with three touchdowns.
Starting point is 00:10:09 Holy cow, he's got to be firmly in that MVP combo, I would assume. That's so tough to break as a running back. But Richard, the Indianapolis Colts win by 14 points, 38 to 24 against the LA Chargers who are trying to keep up in this division race with the Broncos. and with the Chiefs, what are your thoughts on the Indianapolis Colts right now? I think they may be the best team in the AFC, and I know I'm going to get some flag for that because of the Buffalo Bills, but the Buffalo Bills have shown some chinks in the armor.
Starting point is 00:10:38 No question about it. I haven't seen those same chinks from the Indianapolis coach. Yes, they've lost the game. But even in the game they lost, I thought they could have won that game. If Adonai Mitchell doesn't drop the ball over the goal line, if he doesn't have that holding call on Jonathan Taylor's 50-yard run, they easily win that game against the L.A. Rams. So again, Indiana Jones, a guy, just an entirely different player from the guy that was in New York.
Starting point is 00:11:06 Shane Stuyken has injected belief in this guy, confidence, and they just look like a great team. They're complete. They can do it on the ground. Jonathan Taylor looks like an MVP candidate, 10 rushing touchdowns on the season, one receiving touchdown, 11 total touchdowns. 16 carries for 94 yards in this game. He looked dominant. And a lot of the TD runs looked identical.
Starting point is 00:11:30 You look at him, you're like, is that the first one or the second one or the third one? I'm not sure. But Daniel Jones could be an MVP candidate. They're not going to give MVP to a running back. Unfortunately, y'all can argue with somebody else. If they didn't give it to Sequin last year and they're not going to give it to CMC the year before, they're not giving it to running backs. I think they should change the award and give the quarterbacks their own award.
Starting point is 00:11:52 that they can give the MVP fairly and stop saying it's just a quarterback award because that's what they're making it right down. No matter what a running back does, they're not giving them the award, no matter how valuable they are to their team. But defensively, they played a great game. Even without Charverius Ward in the lineup who went to IR with a concussion in the pregame from the game before, they looked incredible. They had three sacks in a game, two interceptions.
Starting point is 00:12:19 They got Kenny Moore back in the lineup. They were giving Justin Herbert issues all over the place. Obviously, they had three sacks. The Chargers' offensive line has been absolutely decimated with injuries, losing Joe Alt and Rashon Slater. Not many teams can overcome the loss of those two kind of caliber tackles. No matter what, even if it was just your starting right and left tackle, that's a tough loss.
Starting point is 00:12:45 But to have your starting right and left tackle be premier players and to lose them for the season away they did, it's a tough pill to swallow, but Keenan Allen had a good game. 11 catches for 119 yards. He continues to be a safety blanket for Justin Herbert. Justin Herbert threw the ball 55 times today. That's what you're going to expect without Omarion Hampton
Starting point is 00:13:05 in the lineup anymore. He's banged up. They're without so many of their star players. You got it. Somebody else is going to have to step up. Quentin Johnson didn't have the game he usually has, but Gatson steps up in his play. seven catches for 164.
Starting point is 00:13:22 Herbert throws for three touchdowns, a 420 yards, but he had the two interceptions, and that was the difference in the ball game. Again, the Colts looked like the most complete team in the AFC and maybe the NFL, both sides of the football, a top five defense, an offense that's incredibly balanced. And one thing that was notable in this game is when they had to get a first down to seal this game, they did what, they ran one with Jonathan Taylor, and they had to get a number. another first day on Mitchell. And guess who they leaned on?
Starting point is 00:13:54 Indiana Jones. They leaned on Indiana Jones to close this game out, and that just shows you the drastic change and the belief that they have in this young man. He's looking like an incredible player right now. He's looking like the first rounder that was drafted, and I look forward to seeing what they're going to do all season. I hope I'm right about this team,
Starting point is 00:14:15 but it feels right because they're so balanced and they're so freaking good on defense. I love this for Lou Anarumo. I love this for him because he was suffering in Cincinnati where they're spending all their money on the offense and nothing on the defense. And he's coming to a team that has more balance. He has more say-so in the roster.
Starting point is 00:14:34 And it's turning out really good. And fortunately for the Indianapolis Colts, they get the unofficial buy week next week playing the Tennessee Titans. So, you know, it's very, very feasible. We could be looking at a 7-1. team after eight weeks. But Richard, I want to dive a little bit more into Indiana Jones, Daniel Jones. I know we talked about it and podcast passed, but Richard, Indiana Jones, the New York Jones we saw last year in Daniel Jones. I mean, call me crazy. There's no way anyone could have seen this
Starting point is 00:15:07 coming. How does this happen? I know it's coaching. I know it's structure. I know it's system. But like, Richard, you played in this league number of years. How in the world does this happen with Daniel Jones like that? I can't totally explain it and say that I know all the answers because I don't think it's that simple and clear. But I think it's something to be said about all these quarterbacks that are going to new places to these quarterback whispers and having success. I think they said Daniel Jones had a little bit of time with Kevin O'Connell when he said that was some of the most valuable time. that he's had as a quarterback. He learned more in that time
Starting point is 00:15:46 that I think he learned in all of his years in New York and that's no shot at Daveo on their staff because obviously they're doing a solid job with Jackson Dart right now. But sometimes when you lose your confidence early and fans get down on you, everybody gets down on you, especially in a big market like New York,
Starting point is 00:16:03 you saw it with Sam Darnel. It's hard to recover. Because once you're labeled, once you get labeled certain thing, it's hard to lose and shake that label. I think it took him going somewhere else, them really, really building an offense that emphasizes his skill set and what he does well. Supported by an incredible run game, a good running back, a good scheme, a good defense. You surround a quarterback with a good running game and a good defense, he'll have a chance,
Starting point is 00:16:34 and then you speak confidence into him, put him in positions for him to be successful within his skill set, not ask him to do things that other quarterbacks did or somebody you worked with in the past, but designed it specifically for him. And I think that's what the Indianapolis Colts and Shane Stuyken have done. And that's why he's thriving. It's unbelievably impressive. Richard, let's talk about the Kansas City Chiefs. They took care of their division rival, the Raiders, in dominating fashion.
Starting point is 00:17:01 Everyone was worried about the Chiefs. I thought they were done. I mean, I don't know if you thought they were done or not, but they certainly do not look like they are done. They look dominant, Richard, 31 to nothing. Rishie Rice is back in the fold, and he got involved very early, very often, what was a four or five catches in the first quarter. He ends up with seven catches for 42 yards and two touchdowns. How important is Rishie Rice to this offense? I mean, the way they look today, he seems like the linchpin. He seems like the pivotal piece, at least for Patrick Mahones to have success, because everything open.
Starting point is 00:17:40 up with him back in offense. You see Travis Kelsey getting his longest gain in four to five years. Rashi Rice having two touchdowns, Pacheco getting a little bit, a little bit more breathing room in there. But it's Patrick Mahomes that looked the best today. And I think that should be scary for the rest of the league because, no, I didn't think they were done. And I told you this. I said, I'm not counting the Kansas City Chiefs out anymore. Not ever. I don't care unless they're shown to be statistically disqualified from the playoffs and they're eliminated, I believe they're going to have a chance at the end because that's what they've done. If they get in a tournament, they're probably going to make it to the end and nobody wants to see them. Nobody wants to see
Starting point is 00:18:26 the Kansas City Chiefs on their schedule in January. No, you don't. You don't. You could say you do, the Buffalo Bills, you don't. Indianapolis coach would love to avoid them. Like there's nobody that's like, hey, yeah, let's get the Kansas City Chief. Jacksonville Jaguars, I know you guys felt good about that win. You would hate to see them coming to Jacksonville in January because guess what? Go ahead and book your vacations because it's over with. And that's the way they've been. They've been in the Super Bowl five of the last six years.
Starting point is 00:18:54 So we'd be foolish. We'd be foolish to think anything else because that's what they've proven. You got to get, sometimes you've got to give people the respect of their past, Mitchell. Hey, this is what they've done. is what they've shown. This is their reputation. Their reputation, champions. Their reputation, they're going to make the show. So, look, until they don't live up to their reputation, I'll think they'll be in it. Regardless of what's going on, we've seen seasons where Patrick Mahomes has struggled early, they've gone on the Super Bowl. We've seen years where he looked like
Starting point is 00:19:28 the MVP candidate. They've gone to the Super Bowl. We've seen years where they're a defensive the team. They've gone to the Super Bowl, you know, where they're really, really driven by their run game. They've gone to the Super Bowl. So they've shown, Andy Reid is shown, Spags has shown, they can do it a lot of different ways, whatever way that it needs to get done, they can, they can adapt and get it done. So I've had a lot of belief in them, and I continue to do that. The way the defense played today against the Raiders, I don't think I've seen anything like that. I think they said the Raiders had 30 offensive plays, the least amount of plays since 2002, I think it was. They had 75 yards passing, 25 yards rushing.
Starting point is 00:20:10 I mean, abysmal. That's abysmal offense in the National Football League. And I feel awful for Pete Carroll and his staff because, you know, you're not sure they're going to have a job. I don't think the Raiders are going to fire anybody in season. They've done that enough. It doesn't work. But hopefully they give them another year, but that's a rough game, especially a division rival. to come back like that, to come back from.
Starting point is 00:20:33 Obviously, Gino Smith is struggling a lot this year. I think he's leading the league and interceptions. And they just don't look like a confident team. Obviously, being without Brock Bowers, Jacoby Myers was out. Everybody's calling to trade for your best pass rusher and Max Crosby. It may be time to look at that. You know, it may be time to look at some of those things
Starting point is 00:20:55 and allow these guys to see what life's like somewhere else put Max Crosby. Could you imagine Mike Crosby on the Indianapolis Colts or the Seattle Seahawks or the San Francisco? You know, just somewhere else
Starting point is 00:21:08 where you could be immediately impactful, have a chance to have a winning season. If you put him on the Colts, sheesh, shish, that changes that dynamic immediately. I couldn't even imagine, Richard. I mean, fortunately for you, you played on a lot of winning teams.
Starting point is 00:21:27 I mean, could you imagine being in Max Crosby situation right now in the prime of your career and a proverbial dumpster fire in Las Vegas? No, I couldn't. I couldn't because I would ask for out. I'm sorry. I'm not built to keep losing like that, especially, you know, the way he's showing up to work, going full speed, going as hard as he can every week.
Starting point is 00:21:49 He's not giving up at any point in the game. He plays four quarters all the way to the clock strikes zero. You want to have a chance to actually be playing for something. And he's given this organization everything he could. and they had, you know, unfortunately, it hasn't worked out like it should for him. Same thing is true for Miles Garrett. You hope those guys get a chance to play in the postseason, to make impactful plays in January,
Starting point is 00:22:10 to see what it feels like to play in championship games and Super Bowls on the biggest stage and the brightest lights. But if they stay where they are, it doesn't look like they'll get that chance. And it's just unfair to the game. So hopefully, you know, something positive happens. Obviously, it's not the Raiders season this year. the chiefs have the commanders next playing, you know, and it doesn't look like Jaden Daniels will be back.
Starting point is 00:22:33 So they'll likely be facing Marcus Marietta. And that's a game they can win as well. So you talk about getting back on the right track. They're four and three now. They could be looking at five and three. And like you said, the Denver Broncos need to create some distance between them and the Kansas City Chiefs because, again, they'll sneak up on you and be coming for the one or two seed at the end of the year.
Starting point is 00:22:56 No question. I mean, shoot, I became a believer again in the Chiefs last week when they took care of my Detroit Lions. But this week with Rishi Riceback, man, I think they put the national media and landscape of the NFL on notice that they have never left. They are firmly back in that championship caliber conversation. Hey, it's us, the Jonas Brothers. And guess what? We have some big news. What's the news?
Starting point is 00:23:21 Huge news. We created our own podcast called, Hey, Jonas. We invented a podcast? Well, we didn't invent it. We just contributed to it. We're the first people to do podcasts. Pretty, yeah, pretty wide range of podcasts throughout there. But this one's extra special.
Starting point is 00:23:36 So how did we actually come up with a name, Hey Jonas, guys? I honestly don't remember. I think it was on a call about what we should call it. Oh, we were thinking I'm originally calling it one of the early names of our band. Before Jonas Brothers was... This is how you guys remember it going down? Yes. I have a very different memory of this.
Starting point is 00:23:56 We were talking about a thing, a bit for the podcast, where people could call in and say, hey, Jonas. And then I wrote down on my little notepad, Hey Jonas, and offered it up as a potential title for the podcast. But thanks for remembering that, guys. Listen to Hey Jonas on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcast. Just listen. We don't care where you hear it.
Starting point is 00:24:17 Another podcast from some SNL late night comedy guy, not quite. Unhumor me with Robert Smygel and friends. Me and hilarious guests from Bob Odenkirk to David Letterman, help make you funnier. This week, my guest, S&L's Mikey Day and headwriter, Streeter Seidel, help an a cappella band with their between songs banter. Where does your group perform?
Starting point is 00:24:37 We do some retirement homes. Those people are starving for banter. Listen to humor me with Robert Smigel and Friends on the I-Heart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. The French Open is one of the toughest tests in tennis, and I know firsthand because I competed there myself. I'm Renee Stubbs, and on the René. a Stubbs Tennis podcast, I'm breaking down everything happening at Roland Garris.
Starting point is 00:25:01 Every match, every upset, and what it really takes to win on Clay. Jenchian won. I mean, she went down at three to Rabakina, but I'm delighted. She's an outsider to win the French for me. And she likes Clay. Listen, Lena Rabakina is arguably the best player in the world right now, and I actually can win on any surface, because if she's serving, well, good luck. Consider this your court-side seat to the French Open.
Starting point is 00:25:25 Listen to the Renee Stubbs tennis podcast on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Presented by Capital One, founding partner of IHeart Women's Sports. What's up, fam? It's Isaiah Thomas. And I'm C.J. Toledano, and our podcast Point Game is about defining the odds. Like LeBron heading into the playoffs without Luca and Austin Reed. And finding ways to win no matter what. He's the smartest player to ever play the game. His IQ is at a level that we've never seen before.
Starting point is 00:25:53 And he knows without Luca and Austin. Austin Reeves, I got to manipulate the game. We get a player's perspective on the challenges of the playoffs. I think Joker's going to be exhausted this series because when they don't have Rudy in the lineup, he has to really guard guys like Nas Reid. He has to guard Julius Randall. And then he has to give us everything he gives us
Starting point is 00:26:12 on the night-to-night bases on offense. And when IT's friends stop by, like Quentin Richardson, we dive into some playoff history too. Steve Nash would get that thing. That man, hell get the flying. He running up the court, licking his fingers, got the ball like, after you go through a training camp with that Isaiah, you figure it out real quick. Get your ass up and down the court and you're going to get the ball.
Starting point is 00:26:35 So listen to Point Game on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Today's show is brought to you by our new presenting sponsor, Hard Rock Bet. Remember, you can find live odds to bet all of these streaks in the Hard Rock Bet app. Jackson Smith and Jigba has scored a touchdown in five straight October games. as a favorite. He's a stud, Richard. I'm not even going to debate that. Sam Darnold has thrown for 241 plus yards
Starting point is 00:27:02 against AFC opponents five times in a row. His over is just two 30 and a half. Sounds like a steal to me. They take care of the Minnesota Vikings 28 to 22.
Starting point is 00:27:52 Jalen Hertz has a solid game. I mean, his best game of the season, no question. About 19 to 23, 326 yard, three touchdowns. He found his buddy, always open, A.J. Brown, four receptions for 121 and two touchdowns. I know you've got to love to see that. The first, I guess, quarter of the season, this Philly offense just had no identity. And now they still can't run the football, but they finally figured out how to throw it. And they take care of the Minnesota Vikings.
Starting point is 00:28:22 I'm not going to leave this game and think, hey, Philly is dominant. I don't think they are. I mean, Carson Wentz gifted him an interception. He did not look good at all. But Richard, what are your thoughts on this Philadelphia Eagles team? They escape Minnesota with a win. I think this was really good for the locker room. Obviously, there was a ton of frustration going on.
Starting point is 00:28:45 Both with the past game, both receivers were frustrated. Sequin Barclays frustrated. And overall, Jalen Hertz played one of the best games of the season. It was very efficient 19 of 23 for 326 and three touchdowns. Again, like you said, the running game still can't find his ground. And some of it is schematic. Some of it, you don't have Mackay Beckton at a right guard. You don't have an embarrassment of riches like they did before.
Starting point is 00:29:15 Still kind of banged up on that offensive line. They're not healthy, and that hurts everything. But, yeah, A.J. Brown having four receptions for 121 and two touchdowns in a critical catch late in the game. That sealed the game on the double move. Those are the things you need to give yourself a chance late in the season and to keep these guys happy. Devante Smith has been having good games and great games. This is one of his best games. I think this is a career high, 183 and a touchdown.
Starting point is 00:29:44 But you need to have these guys healthy if you're going to have any chance, late in this season. Jalen Carter being back obviously helped this defense a ton. They look like they might have lost the Dory Jackson for a bit of time, but they still made big plays. They had to pick six in this game, and that ended up being the difference in this ball game against the Vikings team that's obviously playing Carson Wentz and had some struggles with their offensive line. But I don't know. I still don't know what to make of this team. I'm not necessarily ready to to put them back in the top five and say, man, the Eagles are back because it just doesn't feel that way right now.
Starting point is 00:30:24 It still feels like there's some hiccups there, some struggles that are unnecessary. There's not enough balance. Is this sustainable? Can Jalen Hertz play disofficially, diseffectively every single game? Can the defense create a pick six and another turnover every game? I'm not sure. I think they can win the next one. They play the Giants so they could come back and end up splitting this season with the Giants.
Starting point is 00:30:48 But I think there's something to be said about, you know, their offensive struggles, at least running the football. Jalen Hertz played a phenomenal game and it still came down to the wire. He played one of his best games of the season and still came down to a really incredible throwing catch for him against the Minnesota Vikings, against their zero blitz pressure. And so I hope they've figured it out, but it's still to be seen. You know, this, this is an ever-evolving league and an ever-evolving situation with Philadelphia Eagles. They're just different in the standpoint that, you know, not only offensively to the, they look different, but defensively, you talked about it last week with the absence of Milton Williams and Josh Schwatt. They let those guys walk in free agency. You know, they re-s, they signs Daria Smith from my Detroit Lions, unfortunately.
Starting point is 00:31:40 But that experiment didn't last very long. He just announced his retirement. now we're hearing that Brandon Graham might be coming back, potentially. He's mulling coming out of retirement. Do you think that's a good idea for both sides? Yeah, I mean, it always makes sense. Pass rushers, it's a very specialty position, and it's one of those things either you have it or you don't have it.
Starting point is 00:31:58 And Brandon Graham obviously has it, obviously fits into this scheme, and he means so much to that locker room. He would come in and fit in right away with their depth, you know, being depleted, you know, Nolan Smith being on IR. He'd be a welcome addition. So I think it could work out, but I'm not sure that's going to actually happen or if he'll wait until later in the season, you know, maybe make that playoff run, which would be a really cool story, no question about it.
Starting point is 00:32:28 And the Vikings on the other side got some decisions to make. We got them this Thursday night in L.A. against the Chargers, and they got to figure out if they're going to play J.J. McCarthy Or they're going to stick with Carson Wins. And like you said, Carson Wins had some really, really bad interceptions today. the pick six where he was under duress and he just put the ball in harm's way and they ran it in for a touchdown are plays you can't have without that play you know they may find a way to win this game but with that play makes it incredible incredibly difficult to beat the defending champions and it's going to be incredibly difficult to beat the chargers and justin herbert if you make those kind of mistakes they're going to make you pay for it so i don't i'm not sure the old line is good enough for them to put J.J. McCarthy behind it again. I'm not sure he's processing as fast as Carson Wentz is and going to be able to execute the offense as well, just in youth.
Starting point is 00:33:23 I know people are like, oh, man, he's the number one. He's number 10 pick. I hear you, but he's a rookie, and Carson Winst is still a veteran who's processing. It's the same thing when you, when you have a guy like Flacco come into Cincinnati, and they're like, man, Jake Browning was doing all this. Blacko's a veteran. He's played for 18 years. He's seen a lot of football. He understands it. He sees it in the way the coaches see it. He'll be able to recognize when the safety is dropping, when they're splitting, when the rush is coming, it's not going to be necessarily perfect. But when you don't have a great offensive line, you give yourself the best chance with a veteran quarterback who could at least presumably get you to the right play and get you to the right situation and make the right decision in most situations. Obviously, he did. getting today. He threw for 300 yards, zero touchdowns, two interceptions. So what didn't work out like they wanted it to today, but I think they're going to stick with Carson Wentz because you just don't want to put him, put a rookie behind this offensive line and have this pass rush get to him. I don't think I like either option, honestly, Richard, either Carson Wence or JJ McCarthy.
Starting point is 00:34:33 I really don't. I can't believe I'm saying this, but do you think the Minnesota Vikings are kicking themselves for not resigning Daniel Indiana Jones this offseason? Yeah, yes, I do. I think they're kicking themselves, but I don't think they could have afforded it. I mean, you look at it now, and they had Sam
Starting point is 00:34:52 Dernel and Indiana Jones in the fold. You're like, literally, wow, look how that worked out. And you ended up with Carson Winston, J.J. McCarthy. And if it doesn't get better, again, hindsight is 2020. We can always sit back here as Monday morning quarterbacks and be like, man, they should have done
Starting point is 00:35:08 this. They should have done this. But clearly, their, you know, scouting department and research and what Sam Donald was asking for, they felt like this was the best decision they could make at the time and give themselves a chance to win. Obviously, it looks like Sam Donald is thriving in Seattle, one of the most efficient quarterbacks in the league. His connection with Jackson Smith and Jigba is one of the best in the league. And then you got Daniel Jones, who's doing incredibly with the Indianapolis Colts. But I think there's something to be said about sitting and waiting and being healthy and learning from the quarterback in front of you.
Starting point is 00:35:47 But we'll see because you don't want to have another situation where JJ McCarthy gets out there. He gets banged up. His confidence is shot. The fans stop believing in him. The fans start believing that he's not the answer. And then you lose things going forward. You lose the confidence.
Starting point is 00:36:01 Right now there's still that mystery. There's still that air of a mystery. Maybe he's the answer. Maybe he just haven't figured it out yet. But you put him out there three, four games and it doesn't go well. And you're going to lose that mystery. People are going to say, hey, he's a bust. Because we're in a microwave age.
Starting point is 00:36:16 Everybody's either the best or a bust every week. You know, that's just the age we're in. You can complain about it all you want. That's reality. No question about it. Before we leave this game, we saw a very unique, I guess, strategy against the tush push. We've seen teams try to approach defending. the tush push in a number of different ways.
Starting point is 00:36:36 This is a first. A guy was lined up, I guess, sideways to the line. And all fours, Richard, if you, first off, to our viewers, if you guys have not seen this, just take a look at it, YouTube, Google it, do whatever. But Minnesota Vikings use a very unique strategy, lining a guy up on all fours. In front of the center, Richard, what do you make of this approach? It's just, yeah, teams trying to figure out an answer for it. something that can change it up, something different.
Starting point is 00:37:07 And maybe somebody uses that and builds on it and figures out a different way to put him or a different place to put him. But it's going to, this is the National Football League. It's not going to just be stagnant and guys just continue and let them run a play and have 100% success. They're going to do things and they're not going to just concede that it's just the first down when they line up in affirmation. They're going to try different things to try to find an answer for it.
Starting point is 00:37:33 And that was just the Minnesota Vikings and Brian Flores trying something new. Let's talk about the New England Patriots. They continue their winning ways like the Patriots of old. I mean, they take care of the lowly Tennessee Titans on the road. But Drake May, I mean, Richard, you want to talk about efficiency. This guy looks like a stud. 21 to 23, 222 yards, two touchdowns. He's given the New England Patriots life.
Starting point is 00:37:59 You got to love the job that Mike Frable has done, his first year on the job. It just seems like so much of a hand and glove fit for New England. Do you think New England's back? I mean, their schedule is so weak going forward. They play the Browns next week. Then they got a decent challenge against the Atlanta Falcons and then a true test against Tampa Bay. But assuming they beat Cleveland next week, they are six and two. I mean, this team after last year, in the year before that, and the year before that, ever since Tom Brady left has been struggling to find their new identity. Do you think they've found it in Drake May? Yeah, I definitely think they've found it.
Starting point is 00:38:36 And I think they've also found what I talked about earlier, the balance. Remandre Stevenson had 18 carries for 88 yards and a touchdown. They're running the ball well. Booty had an incredible catch for a touchdown. Drake Mays pushing the ball down the field and as accurate as anybody in the National Football League on deep passes this year. And it was obviously apparent today. He threw for 222 and two touchdowns, 21 and 23. and the defense had four sacks.
Starting point is 00:39:03 You have to play good defense. You have to have a run game because the run game helps your defense, gives them some rest, be effective on third down, be efficient in the red zone. And that's what they've done. Drake May has grown this year. And again, they're doing everything they can. Mike Braverill was putting him in positions to be successful.
Starting point is 00:39:21 You knew he would want to win this game versus the Tennessee Titans. They let him go and literally just fired his replacement last week because I guess they didn't want to send his replacement in there for him to look that man and I and try to, you know, I think they would have ran to score up even more if Callahan was still the coach. But, yeah, I agree with you. They have multiple games against the Miami Dolphins. I think they got another game against the Jets.
Starting point is 00:39:44 This game, because they're in the AFC East, it's a favorable schedule. And they've already went into Buffalo and got to win. So when you look at that and you're like, hey, you got to feel confident that you're going to win those games. Miami's kind of imploding right now. You're not sure if Mike McDaniel is going to be there by the, time they play the New England Patriots again late in the season. New York hasn't won a game yet. And you beat Buffalo. You could beat the Browns. Obviously, Quentin Judikins is running the ball really well now. So the Browns look a little bit better, but they're going to roll out a rookie quarterback.
Starting point is 00:40:19 And I'm sure Mike Brable will have a plan for him to confuse him to give him dynamic looks. They'll have to deal with Miles Garrett in that defense. And Tyson Campbell, who had a pick-six, in the game this week. So the Browns aren't just laying down for anybody. They're trying to be competitive and they're going to compete in that game. So it's not necessarily an easy win. But I like their chances in it. I think the Patriots, I don't know about Patriots of old.
Starting point is 00:40:42 They were a dynasty that won six Super Bowls and went to 10. So let's not get ahead of ourselves. But they're definitely a competitive team right now. Hey, it's us, the Jonas brothers. And guess what? We have some big news. What's the news, huge news? We created our own podcast called, Hey, Jonas.
Starting point is 00:40:59 We invented a podcast? Well, we didn't invent it. We just contributed to it. We're the first people to do podcasts. Pretty, yeah, pretty wide range of podcasts throughout there. But this one's extra special. So how did we actually come up with a name, Hey Jonas, guys? I honestly don't remember.
Starting point is 00:41:15 I think it was on a call about what we should call it. Well, we were thinking I'm originally calling it one of the early names of our band. Before Jonas Brothers was... This is how you guys remember it going down? Yes. I have a very different memory of this. We were talking about a thing, a bit for the podcast, where people could call in and say, hey, Jonas.
Starting point is 00:41:35 And then I wrote down on my little notepad, Hey Jonas, and offered it up as a potential title for the podcast. But thanks for remembering that, guys. Listen to Hey Jonas on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcast. Just listen. We don't care where you hear it. Another podcast from some SNL, late-night comedy guy, not quite.
Starting point is 00:41:54 Unhumor me with Robert Smygel and friends. Me and hilarious guests from Bob Odenkirk to David Letterman, help make you funnier. This week, my guest, S&L's Mikey Day and headwriter, Streeter Seidel, help an a cappella band with their between songs banter. Where does your group perform? We do some retirement homes. Those people are starving for banter.
Starting point is 00:42:14 Listen to humor me with Robert Smigel and Friends on the I-Heart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. The French Open is one of the toughest tests in tennis, and I know firsthand because I competed there myself. I'm Renee Stubbs, and on the Renéy. Stubbs Tennis podcast, I'm breaking down everything happening at Roland Garris. Every match, every upset, and what it really takes to win on Clay. Jen she went.
Starting point is 00:42:39 I mean, she went down at three to Rabakina, but I'm delighted. She's an outsider to win the French for me. And she likes Clay. Listen, Lina Rabakina is arguably the best player in the world right now, and I actually can win on any surface, because if she's serving, well, good luck. Consider this your court side seat to the French Open. Listen to the Renee Stubbs tennis podcast on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Presented by Capital One, founding partner of IHeart Women's Sports.
Starting point is 00:43:10 What's up, fam? It's Isaiah Thomas. And I'm C.J. Toledano, and our podcast Point Game is about defying the odds. Like LeBron heading into the playoffs without Luca and Austin Reed. And finding ways to win no matter what. He's the smartest player to ever play the game. His IQ is at a level that we've never seen before. And he knows without Luca and Austin. Austin Reeves, I got to manipulate the game.
Starting point is 00:43:31 We get a player's perspective on the challenges of the playoffs. I think Joker's going to be exhausted this series because when they don't have Rudy in the lineup, he has to really guard guys like Nas Reid. He has to guard Julius Randall. And then he has to give us everything he gives us on the night-to-night basis on offense. And when IT's friends stop by, like Quentin Richardson,
Starting point is 00:43:51 we dive into some playoff history too. Steve Nash would get that thing. That man, hell get the flying. He running up the court, licking his fingers, why he got the ball like, after you go through a training camp with that, I said, you figure it out real quick. Get your ass up and down the court,
Starting point is 00:44:07 and you're going to get the ball. So listen to Point Game on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Let's talk about the Tennessee Titans very briefly here. Richard, if we had a redraft, a 2025 redraft, is it Cam Ward or is it Jackson Dart going off the board first for the Tennessee Titans? I think it's still Cam Ward. I think they still go with Cam Ward.
Starting point is 00:44:29 I think they like what they see in him. I think that he obviously doesn't have enough talent around him, doesn't have enough structure around him, which is why they fire the head coach. I think, again, when you talk about these quarterback's development, who the offensive coordinator is, what the system is, how are you playing to his strengths? What does he do well?
Starting point is 00:44:52 What does he do incredibly well? Can you put him in positions to do that again and again and again and again and not challenge him to do things that he's uncomfortable doing or at least teach him how to be better at those things. And I think that's sometimes what you get in a position where you see a quarterback struggle because he's thrown into a situation where they're expecting him to be developed and him to have the answers. And you didn't put a great vet.
Starting point is 00:45:18 You know what I mean? Sometimes you put a great vet around him. You like Marcus Marriota, the Washington commanders put Marcus Marriota in the quarterback room with Jaden Daniel. So he could be kind of a mentor to him. Obviously, Jaden Daniels is a starter. He's the guy, but he can help him get ready for these games to know what to see, where to look, how to prepare, how to take care of his body.
Starting point is 00:45:40 You want to have those things sometimes. And I'm not sure they have that right now for Cam Ward. And I think next year when they go to get ahead, coach, that's going to be at the forefront. They're going to look for somebody that can help develop. him and help play to his strengths and really bring the best out of him as a player. I like Jackson Dart. I think he's in a perfect spot with Daibo. I think that all worked out as it should, but I don't think that is an indictment against
Starting point is 00:46:07 Cam Ward or this season is. I think this was a lost season for the Tennessee Titans because they aren't a very talented team outside of Cam Ward. But I think there is somebody else that could get the most out of him. I think management should also reconsider trading A.J. Brown for a pick that net them, Trayvon Burks. But I guess that's neither here nor there. Richard, don't look now, but the
Starting point is 00:46:30 Chicago Bears are four and two. And I guess my main question is to you, as a Detroit Lion fan, should I be worried with them being in the NFC North? I don't know if you should be worried. It is cool that they're four and two, but they've gotten some
Starting point is 00:46:46 wins against some teams that aren't necessarily contenders. I don't think they're ready for the big time yet, but it's good for them. They've won I think four in a row now. Ben Johnson is doing a good job getting the most out of the players, just building culture. And I think that's what they're focused on, just building winning habits, winning tendencies, making the right play, making the right decisions in these in-game situations.
Starting point is 00:47:10 I don't think they're looking too far in the future or worried about the playoffs or anything like that. I think they're taking it one game at a time and trying to get Caleb Williams where he needs to go. He was 15 of 26 today for 172 and an interception. And they had 222 yards running the football. DeAndre Swift had 19 carries for 124. And I think that's what this offensive line is built to do. Again, like I've said, for the history of football, you look at championship teams,
Starting point is 00:47:39 and most of them will tell you, run game and get defense. And then if your quarterback is dynamic and can get the job done, that's a plus. That's going to take you over the top. You're going to win a Super Bowl. But right now, they're developing in those habits. Their defense is making plays.
Starting point is 00:47:54 had four sacks, three interceptions in this game. And that's what they're doing. That's how they're building their winning habits. They're consistently doing the things necessary, building their foundation, building their fundamentals, and that's what's allowing them to keep winning. As you said, the running game was active today. DeAndre Swift 19 carries for 124 in a touchdown. And then the rookie out of Rutgers, Kyle Munungai, 13 and 81 in a touchdown.
Starting point is 00:48:20 That's big for the Chicago Bears team, albeit against the New Orleans Saints, winning is important. You're never going to undersell a win. Winning in the NFL, as you would say, Richard, is not easy. And it's big time for Ben Johnson in this team. A lot of the Detroiters have animosity towards Ben Johnson, but I'm glad to see him succeeding, especially with what we're seeing with Aaron Glenn in New York.
Starting point is 00:48:44 You'd like to have one of your former coordinators, at least finding some success. The one team I do not want to see succeed is the Green Bay Packers, but they squeaked out a win in Arizona, 27 to 23. Richard, when we saw the Green Bay Packers dominate the Detroit Lions week one, I thought we were looking at a team that was going to walk away with the NFC. But over the last couple weeks, it looks like a team that's just skating on the edge, a victory or defeat.
Starting point is 00:49:14 And today, they skated on that edge and walked away with the W. What do you make of this Green Bank Packers team? Because to me, they don't look all that impressive. You know, Jordan Love only throws for 179 yards in a touchdown. Josh Jacobs, you know, carried the load, two touchdowns, but only rushed for 55 yards. It was a defense. And Micah Parsons with three sacks that really won them this game. What do you see in Green Bay?
Starting point is 00:49:37 Do you see them as a NFC contender? They got a lot of work to do still. Well, and I know Green Bay Packers fans, and I know we just never going to agree on this because they will go as Jordan Love goes. Because teams will not let you beat them with Josh Jacobs. They will not. If that's your best, and you're saying your best player, and I would agree with you.
Starting point is 00:50:00 I think their best bet is when Josh Jacobs gets going, everything else opens up, they're a really good offense. But when Josh Jacobs gets stopped, when teams stack the box and find a way to stop Jacobs, can Jordan Love beat you? And if that's what teams are doing, then is Jordan Love the guy? You know what I mean?
Starting point is 00:50:18 Because if they're going to say, hey, we're going to make him play quarterback and beat us like that, and we're going to say, hey, we don't think he can do it. Then that brings up more questions than answers. But that's what teams are going to do. And if he can answer the bail, and obviously they need to get more healthy at receiver, I think Christian Watson is coming back. They need to get Jayon Reed back.
Starting point is 00:50:42 But that's what it's going to come down to. Their defense is going to be solid. They've been in position to win just about every game. the Browns game, I thought they were in position to win that game. I thought their defense played well. They didn't give up a touchdown until the interception from Jordan Love, and then they were in scoring position. They scored a touchdown and ended up winning that game.
Starting point is 00:51:02 But the same thing was true here. You know, I thought Jordan Love struggled a little bit, and then some plays were made. You know, he pushed the ball down the field a little bit, hit Matthew Golden on a deep pass, and then it started to open up Josh Jacobs. Once they got in the Reds on, it was a critical situation. They handed it off to Josh.
Starting point is 00:51:19 Jacobs, he sees that end zone, he gets within the goal line. He's going to find a way to get in there. And that's what he did. He's a great player. Their defense had six sacks today. That was the big thing. Michael Parsons had never, never in his career, had a three-sac game. He did today.
Starting point is 00:51:37 He did today because they had to have it. And he sacked Jacobi Brissette three times in this game. Rashon, Gary, had one. And that's what it took. That's what it took. Quay Walker had a sack and a half. game. Their defense was making plays and they were given their team a chance, but I don't think it should be this hard versus the Arizona Cardinals. Now, the Arizona Cardinals could definitely have a different,
Starting point is 00:51:58 a different record. They lost multiple games at the wire, last second field goals, at least two of those games. This game came down to the wire, so they've been playing good football. You've got to give Josh Gannon a lot of credit for the way they've been battling. They're without Kyler Murray. They're without their star running back. And I think that should be applauded. You know, they're still figuring it out with Marvin Harrison Jr. He, you know, he's had up and down games and he's figured it out. There was some PI calls. He drew today and made some cool catches.
Starting point is 00:52:32 But overall, they went against a backup quarterback, and it came down to the wire. And so I think there's something to be said about the quarterback position. And I know people are like, man, you're so hard on him. But that's the point. That's what you're supposed to be. When you, it would be different if these quarterbacks were on rookie deals. When you're on a rookie deal, you get the benefit of the doubt. That's just how it goes.
Starting point is 00:52:56 You get the benefit of doubt. You get less criticism. You get the excuses. Hey, he's a rookie. He's learning. Once you're not on that rookie deal and you're one of the highest paid players in National Football League, you get criticism. I'm sorry.
Starting point is 00:53:07 I'm not going to, you're not going to say, hey, man, these guys make $55 million. They don't have to be elite. They don't have to be perfect. Like, give him a break. Like, what? Then what do we say? Then what do you want us to say, man? They don't need Jordan Love to play better.
Starting point is 00:53:22 He can just keep doing like this. It's up to everybody else to play better and to lift him up. And Josh Jacobs got to do everything. So, like, they need both. But if Josh Jacobs doesn't get going and you're a $55 million quarterback, then it should be okay to depend on you to win us this game. And I thought he made some plays today to help win this game. So I'll give him credit.
Starting point is 00:53:45 But that's what it's going to come down to on whether this team gets to a Super Bowl, wins in the playoffs or if they don't. Because teams are going to make them play left-handed. They're not going to let them beat them with Josh Jacobs running the football. And it won't be any fault of Josh Jacobs. He'll do everything he can. But they're going to stack the boxes. It's going to be eight-man boxes.
Starting point is 00:54:04 They're going to man these receivers. And if they win and Jordan Love has a good game, the Green Bay Packers will win. No question about it. I believe they will win. And they're talented enough to do it, especially when they're receiving core gets healthy. Well, on the opposite side of the field, opposite side of the ball, rather, Michael Parsons flat out won them this game. Clutch moments, crucial moments late in the game, getting sacks,
Starting point is 00:54:28 taking care of the Arizona Cardinals. But his former team, the Dallas Cowboys, getting an impressive win at home, a dominating win. Richard, seven weeks into the season now, how do you analyze this trade? because the Dallas Cowboys look competitive. They gained a bunch of assets and cap space with dealing Michael Parsons. Do you view this still as the wrong move seven weeks into the season?
Starting point is 00:54:58 Yeah, I don't think you ever can view it as a great move. I think the Dallas Cowboys are in a great position offensively. I think they, to steal George Pickens from the Pittsburgh Steelers the way they did and for him to blossom into the kind of receiver that everybody thought he'd be coming out of Georgia is really cool to see. And now C.D. Lamb is back and they look like an explosive duel today. The Cowboys scored 44 today. And Dak Prescott, if they were, if they had a better record, Dak Prescott has an incredible argument to be in an MVP conversation,
Starting point is 00:55:38 offensive player at a year conversation. he has played phenomenal football this season. And with or without CD Lamb in the lineup, and for him to get his star receiver back and continue to grow and continue to play that way and continue to put up points. And now his defense is starting to show up and get some stops and give him more possessions.
Starting point is 00:55:57 And it's starting to roll. Javante Williams is continuing to look like his old self and run the football with aggressiveness and violence. I'd say both teams feel comfortable right now. Both teams feel comfortable about how it went, but the Packers are 4-1-1-1. They're in position to continue to win and maybe potentially chase a one seed in the NFC. And I'm not sure the Cowboys are, especially defensively. But I think you would want Michael Parsons on your team if you're Dallas Cowboys,
Starting point is 00:56:30 and I don't think the Packers – I think the Packers will be a worse team if they didn't have them. I don't think the Packers would be 4-1-1-1 if they didn't have Michael Parsons. So, again, I still feel like they won this track. you won't know what the Cowboys got from Michael Parsons until the draft. They got draft picks. So how will those draft picks pan out? How do they affect winning in the future? We'll see.
Starting point is 00:56:51 But right now, Michael Parsons is making an immediate impact for the Green Bay Packers and helping them win real national football league games like he did today, had three sacks. So I think both sides are content for now. Richard, we got to talk real quick before we wrap about a coach that's on the hot seat. Mike McDaniel goes on the road. against Cleveland Browns. A team you think the Miami Dolphins and a coach that desperately needs a win would show up for.
Starting point is 00:57:17 They did not, did not at all. They took a drumming 31 to 6 against the Cleveland Browns. Richard, how hot is this hot seat? How much longer does this last in Miami with Mike McDaniel? I'm not sure. I'm not sure because, again, this is, and people will call me the quarterback hater or whatever. I'm not a quarterback hater, but I'm accountability. I'm accountability.
Starting point is 00:57:41 They're paying Tuotunga Vaila $53 million a year. They're not paying Mike McDaniel $53 million. They're paying Tuatunga Vaila. So Tuo Tunga Vaila has had back-to-back three interception games. That is unacceptable. That's not acceptable in any respect for any position, anybody. So of course, you got to give Mike McDaniel. He's the head coach.
Starting point is 00:58:05 He's the offensive guru. You got to give him some criticism. But the criticism also goes to the player. And for you to go into the media and speak the way you did last week, Tua, and I know I've harped on this enough, but and continue to play like this, Mike McDaniel goes out there in his press conference and said, if you're negatively affecting the football team routinely, I don't have a choice but to assess a different player.
Starting point is 00:58:32 And we're going to find out who and what we're made of. And he's speaking directly to Tuaunga Vailua. I'm sure he's speaking to other players, but he's speaking to the quarterback, and he replaced him in the game with Quentin Ewers. And what, do they, could you imagine a world where they, they, they, they, they start Quinn, Quinn, Quinn, his name is giving me, Quinn Ewers, Quinn Ewers, Quinn Ewers, Quinn Ewers, Quinn Ewers, Quinn Ewers, Quinn Ewers next week. I, I, I, what does that do for Tua Tung of our lowest career?
Starting point is 00:59:04 What does that do for the league? even if you fired Mike McDaniel, you still have Tuaunga Vailoa. And you have an injured Tyreek Hill, who's a big cap hit. You have, you still have issues. Devin Chane is playing really well, 13 carriers for 82 yards. He bought some big ones today, but you can't, you can't, pause, pause. He's bust some big ones. That's crazy.
Starting point is 00:59:31 But you can't just depend on that. If you don't have a pass game, then you, then you, you, you, you, can't open up the run game. So you got Jalen Waddle, who's out there, is a big speed, big threat, and all this stuff. But the quarterback has absolutely no confidence. He's thrown over 10 interceptions on, or he's throwing 10 interceptions on the season. I don't know who's the problem and who's the answer, because you've seen success from both of them. But right now, it's unacceptable play from the quarterback. And it's unacceptable play from the team overall. They're, They're struggling.
Starting point is 01:00:04 The Browns ran the ball well on them. They threw the ball well on them. They're going against a rookie quarterback, Dylan Gabriel, 13 for 18 for 116, nothing crazy. But Judkins had 25 carries for 84 yards and three touchdowns. And they just looked like a better team than you. And obviously, they have Miles Garrett. They're a tough outfit on defense. I think they're a good defense.
Starting point is 01:00:28 And obviously, the record doesn't show what they really are. They're two and five. But they still have talent on defense. We talked about Dyson Campbell and his pick six in this game, but they also have Ward on the other side. They have some players on defense that could get the job done and play at a high level. But this is unacceptable play from the quarterback.
Starting point is 01:00:47 You cannot be above criticism making $53 million. I'm sorry, I'm sorry. There's too many quarterbacks making $50 million that guys are making excuses for. With great pay comes great responsibility and great accountability and great criticism. Is it fair? No, but is it fair? You're making $53 million? I will see. You know, you getting paid for this job, and this comes with the job. So a quarterback that's thrown six interceptions in two weeks, I mean, he's part of the problem.
Starting point is 01:01:20 Seeing as how the Indianapolis Colts have done it, the Minnesota Vikings have done it, I'm not paying a guy that I'm unsure of $50 plus million. I'm going to go and look for a guy that hasn't had success elsewhere and pay him far less and see if I can rejuvenate his career. Because this Miami Dolphins team is going nowhere fast. And I don't know how long this deal is for Tuatunga, Richard. But Richard, it's not looking like it's going to end well in Miami for Mike McDaniel because of it. All odds and lines come from our partners at Hard Rock Bet.
Starting point is 01:01:53 We've got two Monday night football games tomorrow. The Seahawks versus the Titans and the Lions versus the Buccaneers. The Seahawks are favored by three against Houston. Texans. You got the Seahawks covering, Richard? No question about it, Mitchell. They got JSCN, one of the best receivers in the National Football League. Sam Darnel playing his best football, K-9, and then they got a D-line full of hunters. They're going to cover. My main question is, Richard, can they win at home? Well, they got to deal with the noise. They got to deal with it, but Mitchell, it's no time
Starting point is 01:02:27 like the present. Fair enough. And how about this? I'll be in Ford Field. The Detroit Lions are favored by six points against Tampa Bay. Who do you like? You like the Lions to cover? Come on, give me some love here, Richard. I want to give them some love, but Mitchell, that was a struggle fest against the Kansas City Chiefs.
Starting point is 01:02:45 And the Buccaneers are number one in my power rank because I can't have them being minus six in the game. Mitchell, I know they're going to make it a game. I expect them to potentially win this game. With Mike Evans healthy now, back in the lineup, Ameca, Bucca, questionable, maybe even Chris Godwin, It's been a while.
Starting point is 01:03:05 Mike Evans is going to come back with a vengeance. I love that they're number one of your power ranks because guess what? The Detroit Lions beating your number one power rank team might earn them the shot back at being number one. I guess we'll see. We'll see. Guys, we appreciate you jumping in with us every week.
