Starting point is 00:00:00 This is an IHeart podcast. Guaranteed Human. Hey guys, it's us. The Jonas Brothers. I'm Joe. I'm Kevin. And I'm Nick. And guess what? We created our own podcast called, Hey Jonas.
Starting point is 00:00:12 We invented a podcast? Well, we didn't invent it. We just contributed to it. We're the first people to do podcasts. We get to ask other people questions because we're sick and tired of being asked questions. Well, sick and tired is a strong way to put it. But, you know, tired and sick. Listen to Hey Jonas on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you.
Starting point is 00:00:30 you get your podcast. Just listen. We don't care where you hear it. Another podcast from some SNL late night comedy guy, not quite. Unhumor me with Robert Smygel and friends. Me and hilarious guests from Bob Odenkirk to David Letterman help make you funnier. This week, my guest, SNL's Mikey Day and head writer Streeter Seidel, help an a cappella band with their between songs banter. Where does your group perform? We do some retirement homes. Those people are starving for banter. Listen to humor me with Robert Smigel and friends on the ice. Heart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts.
Starting point is 00:01:04 Imagine an Olympics where doping is not only legal, but encouraged. It's the enhanced games. Some call it grotesque. Others say it's unleashing human potential. Either way, the podcast's Superhuman documented it all, embedded in the games and with the athletes for a full year. Within probably 10 days, I'd put on 10 pounds. I was having trouble stopping the muscle growth.
Starting point is 00:01:27 Listen to Superhuman on the IHard Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Last night, a blown call changed a game. This morning, the internet lost its mind, and nobody's telling you exactly what happened. That's where Sports Slice comes in. I'm Timbo, and every episode, we're cutting through the noise, breaking down the biggest moments in sports
Starting point is 00:01:48 and giving you the real story behind the headline. And we're going straight to the source, the athletes themselves, their locker room stories, their reactions in the moment, and the stuff nobody gets to hear. Listen to Sports Slice on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcast. And for more, follow Timbo Slic Life 12 in the TikTok podcast network on TikTok. Welcome back to the Richard Sherman podcast.
Starting point is 00:02:11 And I just want to say I appreciate you guys. You can be getting your NFL content from anywhere, but you're here with me. I'm thankful for you. So hit that sub button so you can get the notifications when I'm dropping a new episode. All love. Hope you guys are having a great new year. accomplish it all your new year's resolutions and staying healthy.
Starting point is 00:02:36 Welcome back to the Richard Sherman podcast, and we got another incredible guest, the receiver for the San Francisco 49ers, Kendrick born, my boy, KB. What's up, sir? What up, baby? Man, you had a fun year. You got your bonus.
Starting point is 00:02:52 You get that fun. You got your chippers. What does the future hold for young KB? You coming back? I'm trying to come back. Talk to Kyle, man. You know Kyle. got a good relationship with him, man.
Starting point is 00:03:02 We had a good exit meeting, man. So, you know, I'm trying to make it happen, man. That's always the goal. San Francisco is home, man. And so coming back, having a good year, like you said, was powerful. So I'm trying to run it back. Money talk. But that's just definitely home.
Starting point is 00:03:14 So that's holding a special place in my heart. Yes, money definitely talks, but it just was so real when you came back and how everybody received you. You put that 84 on it just looked right. It just was right back to how it felt. So, man, I appreciate Kyle John. And I love how I left on a good note. left with a good relationship.
Starting point is 00:03:31 That's powerful, man. So any players out there, don't leave and go on Twitter, down your last team, never knowing you might need to come back. So kind of left on that note, and it was good for me. Right, right. Don't speed past the facility. All right, be on. B.A.
Starting point is 00:03:49 But talk to me about this substation thing, because they make it such a big deal about this. And I'm like, bro, nobody, how has this been around this long And nobody ever said anything. And now is the biggest. So I'm running off with a story. You've been on that grass. You know when it turned brown.
Starting point is 00:04:06 It turned brown at the end of the year. But the soccer field over there, the little girl soccer field, it stayed green all year. Low key, I just started driving past noticing. So I don't know, Jay. I'm just trolling, but it'd be brown. I'm like, why the grass brown? It's not too rainy in San Fran.
Starting point is 00:04:26 It ain't too hot. It should really be green. Right. You got a gardener, but... I'm telling you, so I'm a conspiracy theorist, bro, but it's just crazy, man. It's too many injuries, so it... What's crazy... John said he's going to look into it. What's crazy is the team has been trying to acquire that field for the longest,
Starting point is 00:04:43 and then they're acting like they can't give the team that field because of the soccer, and that's a story for a different day. I didn't know that. Oh, they've been trying to get it. It was a huge flight. They've been trying to acquire that land, and maybe things would be different if they were over there. But, you know, so the city of Santa Clara, you know, they could have... We can easily remedy this.
Starting point is 00:05:01 We got that cheese. Look, we can build a whole other soccer field. I promise you. I promise you we build another soccer field for them. That's not right next to an NFL state. But tell me about this matchup. You obviously played against Seattle Seahawks, and you played for the New England Patriots.
Starting point is 00:05:20 What Mike Brable has done for this team has been incredible. What Mike McDonald has done for this team has been incredible. How do you see this matchup going? I think it's going to be a defensive game, man. Shout out to my guys in New England. New England, man. You know, them is all my guys. Went to war with those guys.
Starting point is 00:05:32 So I'm happy that they get into experience it. Just telling them to soak it all limb, man, enjoy it. And then I got my guy, Cooper Cup over there. So I'm kind of room for both sides. But both defenses, man, are phenomenal, man. Like me experiencing, going against New England and practice and stuff, they know what they're doing. Braves got the mindset, the mentality right.
Starting point is 00:05:51 McDonald got them right from me playing against them. Them boys were jumping routes. Brue Hooling and Willispoon. I'm like, hey, I'm taking six steps. How do you know? You count my step. I'm like, no, bro, no, bro. And so they just on that, that they in sync right now with the D line.
Starting point is 00:06:09 They're confident. You know, some DB is going to just sit there like, all right, let them break and then go. Nah, Tariq and them, they antsy. And so in New England got those playmakers too, Marcus Jones, Gonzo. So it's going to be a defensive matchup. And both offenses are going to have to be locked in. But I think whoever makes the most plays on defense comes on top. It's been crazy to watch the run that New England's on and the defenses they've had to play against.
Starting point is 00:06:32 I mean, they played against Houston. And now, now, Drake Maiden got to take the beating. I'm telling you. Boy, they won these games. Got it done. They got it done. And then they played against Denver. Took a beating.
Starting point is 00:06:44 But they got it done. And it's just one of those years. You know, you never know the ball tipping your way more. And they're having a good year. Everything is kind of falling their way. Not to take credit from them, but a lot of people doubting them were like, they schedule. But then when you say they get to the playoffs, Houston ain't no punk. We struggled against them in San Fran.
Starting point is 00:07:02 They kept us off the field. So just them holding it down against Denver, too, like you said, it shows that they're in the right position. But Josh McDaniels, Drake, Vrabel, the culture they're building, they kind of bringing it back. Patriots kind of back. People mad. Yeah, they're super mad. But it's the things that people don't appreciate about Vrabel and the Patriots that they've done well for so many years. They rarely make mistakes in terms of in-game decisions.
Starting point is 00:07:26 decision making. Like when it when it's time to take the points that the points is taken, when it's a third down and they should go for a fourth down they should go for it it's gone for. You really go into those games and you're like second guessing what they did later on. You're like they probably played it exactly how it should have played win or move. Nothing unorthodox. Right. You know bro and so and what they and they take the risk at the right time what you're saying like the fourth and two, fourth and one. It's like it makes sense. So I love Josh man. You know I was with Josh. So just seeing him get back to who he is and in the same place he was his I think it's his third tenor and so man I like people asking me today like
Starting point is 00:08:01 do you wish you was in it heck yeah I wish I was of course right I'd be lying if I was but it's just situations happen God put me on a different path but I'm happy for those guys man and it it's just dope to see from a distance and I know that I played in the Super Bowl we've experienced together man which is dope and so just the experience in itself is special for those guys yeah it's it was fantastic and and even then for Josh I mean he's still getting paid from the Raiders so he he ain't he ain't doing bad at all. The Raiders fanning to coach in the Super Bowl right now. I'm gonna get a head coaching job and get fired on purpose.
Starting point is 00:08:32 You're fired that day. No, I'm just... But talk to me about your clothing for now, man. We got your t-shirt up here. What we got going with this? We got born-bless, man. Born-Bless talks about, man, your purpose, man. You're here for a reason.
Starting point is 00:08:47 Everybody born for a reason. Everybody got a purpose in life. But you ain't going to just find it. God's going to show you. And when you make it there, you figure out why you're living. You're born- blessed, man. Boy, well, I'll tell you what you're. I'll tell you what, this icy seems like you're born blessed.
Starting point is 00:08:59 I'll tell you what. Amazon Jewelers. Amazon Jewelers, bro. Bring the diamond checkers over here. No, no, don't bring it. Don't bring it. Don't bring it. Don't bring it.
Starting point is 00:09:09 Don't bring it. Don't bring it. It's so great to see the growth and maturity that you've shown at this point in your career. Obviously, I saw you as a younger man. Yumble. And I heard a lot about you from Junior Adams, who coached at Easter. You know Junebug in Dallas now. Yes.
Starting point is 00:09:26 Yeah. He with them boy getting pickings and them right. See, he and him boy bawling. Getting them right. And he said his experiences with you and cup helped him get them right. Wow. Dealing with y'all was a lot. Different, different.
Starting point is 00:09:37 Different energies. No, that's fire. That's fire. Oh, go ahead. Go ahead. How does it feel coming from Eastern and everything you experienced there to this point in your career, that journey that you've been through and the growth that you've shown? Yeah, man.
Starting point is 00:09:49 Like I was talking about Koot, man. That's my God, man. That's being connected for so long. I always talk about, you know, God put him in my path for a reason. He was grinding when he was there doing the right things. And I didn't understand it at first. I was just like, man, he getting more passes than me, man. He balling more than me.
Starting point is 00:10:03 But as I got an older, now being around him in the league in our careers, it's like, God was showing me a long time ago how to carry myself, how to train, how to think, how to operate, and that's special. But it all led to me in my career, you know, and understanding once I got to the league. And when you say I was young, I got to the league, I was blowing cheese and having fun. And you mature as you get older, you start to realize. I don't need everything. I don't need every.
Starting point is 00:10:27 I got a lot of chains, don't even wrong. But I've got to a point where I can do a little bit now. You know, you buy certain things. You invest right. You do good with your finances. You can move different. So I've grown in so many spaces through football. That's why I love a game, man, because it gives you so many ventures in life that if you do it right,
Starting point is 00:10:43 you know what I'm saying? You can do this for a long time in life. No question. And you're a Uso. So talk about that and what that means to you and just being able to inspire that community. Bro, my culture is, I mean, look, I got Samoa on my chain. I'm promoting my guys, but the love my Samoa culture gives and how we love people, it's powerful, man, and I always keep that in my heart, show love, you know what I'm saying,
Starting point is 00:11:06 be caring, help people. My family is a different look. I can't hinder them. I was hindering them, how I helping, but it's a culture that I'm connected to and I love. And it's part of my brand, too, so I got a polycross on my thing, and it's just about keeping what's connected real. Well, I appreciate you joining me. As always, it's always love, brother.
Starting point is 00:11:27 Thanks, sir. I appreciate you, man. Thanks for having me, bro. Hey, it's us, the Jonas brothers. And guess what? We have some big news. What's the news, name? Huge news.
Starting point is 00:11:34 We created our own podcast called, Hey Jonas. We invented a podcast? Well, we didn't invent it. We just contributed to it. We're the first people to do podcasts. Pretty, yeah, pretty wide range of podcasts throughout there. But this one's extra special. So how do we actually come up with a name, Hey Jonas, guys?
Starting point is 00:11:52 I honestly don't remember. I think it was on a call about what we should call it. Well, we were thinking I'm originally calling it one of the early names of our band before Jonas Brothers. This is how you guys remember it going down? Yes. I have a very different memory of this. We were talking about a thing, a bit for the podcast where people could call in and say, hey, Jonas. And then I wrote down on my little notepad, Hey Jonas, and offered it up as a potential title for the podcast.
Starting point is 00:12:20 But thanks for remembering that, guys. Listen to Hey Jonas on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcast. Just listen. We don't care where you hear it. Another podcast from some SNL, late night comedy guy, not quite. Unhumor me with Robert Smygel and friends. Me and hilarious guests from Bob Odenkirk to David Letterman help make you funnier. This week, my guest, SNL's Mikey Day and head writer Streeter Seidel, help an a cappella band with their between songs banter.
Starting point is 00:12:48 Where does your group perform? We do some retirement homes. Those people are starving for banter. Listen to humor me with Robert Smigel and friends on the I-Heart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Imagine an Olympics where doping is not only legal but encouraged. It's the enhanced games.
Starting point is 00:13:06 Some call it grotesque. Others say it's unleashing human potential. Either way, the podcast's superhuman documented it all, embedded in the games and with the athletes for a full year. Within probably 10 days, I'd put on 10 pounds. I was having trouble stopping the muscle growth. Listen to Superhuman on the I Heart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts.
Starting point is 00:13:29 The French Open is one of the toughest tests in tennis, and I know firsthand because I competed there myself. I'm Renee Stubbs, and on the Renee Stubbs Tennis podcast, I'm breaking down everything happening at Roland Garris, every match, every upset, and what it really takes to win on clay. Genshin win. I mean, she went down. three to Rabakina, but I'm delighted.
Starting point is 00:13:53 She's an outsider to win the French for me. And she likes Clay. Listen, Lena Rubakina is arguably the best player in the world right now. And I actually can win on any surface. Because if she's serving, well, good luck. Consider this your court side seat to the French Open. Listen to the Renee Stubbs tennis podcast on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts.
Starting point is 00:14:15 Presented by Capital One, founding partner of IHeart Women's Sports. Last night, a blown call changed a game. This morning, the internet lost its mind. Starting point is 00:15:10 Welcome back to the Richard Sherman podcast, and we have an incredible guest today, one of the best corners in the national football league, Denzel War, appreciate you joining me, brother. Appreciate you, man. Appreciate you having me. How are you feeling about this Super Bowl? This looks like a great matchup.
Starting point is 00:15:24 The Patriots have gone through some of the best defenses in the league to get here. And obviously the Seahawks have one of the best defenses in the league. What do you think the issues are going to be for both teams going in? Yeah, I think, like you said, it's going to be a great matchup. You know, I got a lot of respect for Coach Vrable and his team and what he's been able to do in his first year being in New England. But for me personally, if I had a pig, I think I got Seattle. I'm not just saying that, you know, because you're all on your show right now. But, no, I think I got Seattle taking it.
Starting point is 00:15:54 I know they got that Buckeye Jackson, and, man, them boys been bawling and doing their things. So I'll see them taking it. Boy, y'all, y'all, Buckeyes, put the receivers in the league now, don't you all? Yeah, we do. Yeah, y'all have put some receivers in the league. Y'all have put some great corners in the league. Talk about being a corner in this league. You've been one of the top of corners.
Starting point is 00:16:12 We talked about that for a long time. and do you ever find yourself watching the other corners? Stingley, Sertan, Gonzalez, you know, these guys got, because obviously when I was playing, it was Revis, it was Pat Pee, it was myself, Slay was in the league playing well, Gilly. But you don't, you know, it's a friendly rivalry. It's, hey, I watch, I see what you're doing, and I go try to strap and put up some numbers as well.
Starting point is 00:16:37 Yeah, no, it's definitely like that. Like, I'm friends with all those guys, but during the season, like you said, it's a competition. Like, I'm looking like, okay, what they do this week? You know, they got Jamar Chays, they got whatever received. What was their stat line against them? How many PBOs interceptions and what type of game did they have? I'm like, okay, I got to go out and do my thing this next week
Starting point is 00:16:55 and top that, you know, just trying to stay a step ahead and just competing like from a distance, you know? So I'm definitely keeping eyes on everybody and checking out their game what they good at and try to apply to my game a little bit. But, yeah, it's just a friendly competition. Yeah, that's exactly how I felt. That's exactly, bro, it was to the point where,
Starting point is 00:17:13 Before game, sometimes I had a statue like, he got two today? Like, oh, right. And I'm going out there hunting. Exactly. But it's a friendly competition. You know, we would trade notes sometimes, but also as a corner trying to evolve your game, you learn so much about yourself. You watch your tape.
Starting point is 00:17:31 You know the things you do well. You know things you don't do well. That's being an honest player. And the only way you can elevate is being able to see what you do well, improve your game, work on your weaknesses. But sometimes you see something to somebody else. else's game. I saw something in Akeed to Leaves game. His off coverage. He played
Starting point is 00:17:48 with like a real short stagger and he would just quick shuffle. His off was just a quick shuffle. He didn't pedal. He just quick shuffle. And then if it was quick game, he's transitioning out and if it was long, he would usually flip his hips and get himself into a transition. I was like, I think I could play
Starting point is 00:18:04 it like that. And it helped my off so much because everybody running these condensed formations. Do you ever find yourself and even practice squad do sometimes? If they have something in their bag that I wanted, Yeah, exactly. I need that. Yeah, I think that's the biggest thing.
Starting point is 00:18:18 Like, it don't just have to be from the top guys that you get in things that add to your game from, like, even in practice, like seeing how guys run routes or seeing what DBs do in practice and stuff like that. You could take stuff from their game. So it's really just staying open-minded to everybody and into the game, you know. Yeah, I agree. I agree. That's the way you keep evolving and staying at the top of your game. Talk about Top Monkin. You guys just hired Top Monkin.
Starting point is 00:18:42 and he was a coordinator for, you know, your rivals for a while. Obviously, Jim Schwartz is still under contract. But talk about the good things that you've heard about him and have you had a chance to go meet him yet. Yeah, I haven't got a chance to meet him yet. He did text me yesterday. I wanted to reach out to him. I had the pro bowl game, though, so I got to get back to him still.
Starting point is 00:19:01 But I heard a lot of great things about him. I picked up Baltimore's offense. I heard great things raising Lamar Jackson's game and Derek Camry and just having a dynamic offense. So I'm hoping he could bring that to Cleveland. You know, we need it, need an amazing offense. And, you know, I'm hoping they're saying he has got to do it. So we go find out.
Starting point is 00:19:22 Obviously, you're hoping to bring Jim Schwartz back. He's been such a fantastic coordinator. You guys have been a top five, top three defense for majority of your career. Talk about his scheme and what he's meant to you. Man, I can't say enough great things about Coach Schwartz. I feel he's elevated my game. Like I talked about with Monk and to Lamar. I feel like that Schwartz to me and a lot of guys on the defense
Starting point is 00:19:42 on the team. Schwartz, like I said, elevated my game. Just his scheme is great. I feel he always calling a perfect call, putting us in the right position to make a play. So I'm hoping we could keep him on the team, and you know, he don't go nowhere else. You got a great young middle linebacker.
Starting point is 00:19:57 How have you seen him evolve throughout this season? I think Swessinger, he came in as a veteran, like a veteran as a rookie. So it's been exciting to see him grow. Just a great player who should win defensive player, rookie defensive player of the year, I believe, along with Miles, Garrett, winning defensive player at a year.
Starting point is 00:20:16 But it's just a great player, man. We're going to need him a good young court talent that we got. We're going to need them for the long run. It ain't many times you get a defensive player of the year candidate and a rookie defensive, I mean, defensive rookie of the year candidate on the same defense and y'all not win at least, you know, but we ain't going to go down that role.
Starting point is 00:20:34 But you lost your running mate, too. And people don't understand the relationship that corners have, especially the corner that plays opposite of a great corner like yourself. They get a lot of attention. They get a lot more attention than normal. You lose Newsom, but you get Tyson Campbell. How was that for you during the season? Honestly, it was tough at first.
Starting point is 00:20:53 Like, Greg Newsom's like, that's my brother. Like, you know, we got real close over the time that he came into the league. And like, he getting married. He's getting married to his wedding and everything. And they trade him. So it hurt me. But, you know, that's the NFL and that's what happened. But Tyson, he had great fit for the team.
Starting point is 00:21:09 came in, locked in, played man to man, and he's just a great dude to be around. So I think it was a good trade, you know, that, you know, Greg doing well for Jacksonville and Tyson doing well. And me and Tyson were coming closer and closer, but I think he had great fit for the team, though. I agree.
Starting point is 00:21:25 I agree with that. So what's Cleveland sometimes gets a bad rap, and I want to give you a chance today to tell people something they don't know about Cleveland, some positive. You know, you've got to give Cleveland some love today. We're going to give Cleveland a little love. Right.
Starting point is 00:21:38 You know, hey, La, La, Brian from Cleveland. So that's all that's all you got to say. LeBron from Cleveland. So that's all you need to know. But the Browns, man, we're about to bring it, pick it back up, pick it back up this season and hopefully make the playoffs. And, yeah, we're trying to win some games and bring some winning back to the city.
Starting point is 00:21:54 I believe that. I believe that. Shador Sanders was named to the Pro Bowl this year. That was a little different. They said, they said, you all had two pro bowl quarterbacks in Flacco on Shador. So, but talk about him and the growth that you've seen from him. Obviously, as a corner, you see it up close and personal. We understand these quarterbacks.
Starting point is 00:22:12 We understand what they're seeing and the way they kind of try to diagnose and dissect these defenses. Did you see the growth that you expected from him this season? Yeah, it's been well. I mean, like I say, he is just a rookie. He got all the confidence in the world. I think you need that a quarterback position. And I think he's going to continue to develop and grow into a great player. And he did well.
Starting point is 00:22:32 He did well. He made some mistakes, but I mean, that's expected for a rookie. but just his growth and his willingness to want to learn and get better, I think he's going to go a long way for him. Did you ever find yourself having conversations with him? I think they're usually corners, quarterbacks in corners, sometimes quarterbacks and receivers, receivers in corners, have those conversations.
Starting point is 00:22:52 What did you see here, especially great players like yourself? Did you find yourself going up to him and like, hey, I saw you do this, I saw you giving away this tail, or are you trying to let him learn the hard way? Yeah, I'm really letting him learn a hard way. I definitely stay in his ear, though, but the mostly conversation is just trash talk. Like, you know, I'm about to pick you up all day and practice today. And, you know, it's mostly just a trash talk. But I definitely try to stay in his ear.
Starting point is 00:23:15 And, you know, I'm always here for him whenever he needs some advice him about something. Or if I got a question, you know, I'll go ask him and see what he saw. You've been in the league long enough to ask you this question. How much different is the league than you thought it was going to be when you were a kid growing up and watching it versus you playing in it and getting to be an elite player? Yeah, that was a great question. I think when I growing up watching it, I thought like, oh man, like the NFL is just like, I don't know, like a juggernaut.
Starting point is 00:23:47 Like guys is just unbeatable and, you know, you just, the guys are the top of the top. But once I actually got to the NFL and like, I'm like, okay, I can play with these guys. Like guys are beatable. You know, it's going to be good players. Like you said, it's going to be great players, but guys can be beating on any given day. It still is juggernauts. You just happen to be a juggerna. You sit there and you look at it like, oh, man, these guys can be played with,
Starting point is 00:24:11 but it's because you're one of the top athletes in the world. But that was the thing when I came in. It was so much different than I expected. Once you get here and you have the confidence to understand you belong here and you can be dominant, you can play at a high level, then it changed the game for you. How I approach it is I'm approaching human beings. I'm approaching schemes.
Starting point is 00:24:33 I'm studying a scheme. See, hey, this office coordinator likes to do with this in this situation. I have yet to see a receiver that calls his own plays. So from that perspective, I'm like, hey, you might run foe two, foe three. You may jump out of the gym and all that. But if he say you're running a curl, better run that curl. Exactly, you know. That's where the ball go be.
Starting point is 00:24:52 That's where the ball go be. In San Francisco a couple times, we would play and we'd be in practice. And a receiver would just run a wrong route because I've run the route for him. It's a big. I'm already running the end. If it's cruel, I'm already breaking. And they make up routes. And Kyle used to go off.
Starting point is 00:25:06 That used to be, that's the most fun I have, watching them go off on these receivers. Like, you can't just make stuff up because I know to play. Exactly. You can't change the route up. No, you can't. And once I knew that, it changed the way I played this game. And I think that's what helped me play at a different level. What do you think gives you the advantage that you have to play at the level you have for so long?
Starting point is 00:25:24 I think one consistency. Just staying consistent in my workouts, my routine. Like, I found a great routine coming into the NFL. and just really just being able to stick. I know it works for me, but it don't work for me. And just sticking to that, you know, not getting complacent and anything that goes on and just continue to stick to it. And, yeah, I would say that's the biggest thing for me.
Starting point is 00:25:45 What have you changed about your off-season routine as you've gotten older, and I don't mean older like that? But just as you've matured in this link and really have an understanding of what you need and what you don't need, is it spending more time with family? Is it working out more? Is it a training facility? Is it the diet? What is?
Starting point is 00:26:02 Yeah, that's a good question. I think, like, initially what I learned, like, going into, like, as soon as the season's over with, is really taking that break. Like, you know, I don't need to be football every single day, you know. So really just kind of taking a break and clearing my mind. And then once I do get back to it, still staying in shape, like working out and getting those lifts in and stuff like that.
Starting point is 00:26:22 But just finding that routine, I think is the biggest thing for me. I got a routine that I feel worse. And, like you said, diet, whether it's the diet, workouts, and then just sticking to that year in and year out, you know, I don't really change too much in it. And I feel it helps me out every year. Yeah, creatures are habit. Exactly.
Starting point is 00:26:37 Creatures a habit. I think that was the biggest thing for me because when you're young and you want to, soon as the season's over, you're like, man, I want to get back to working out, and I want to get back to lifting and get back on the field, and then you get to the season and your body hurt. You're sore and you having hamstring and calf issues and training camp, and you're like, you didn't get your body a big enough break after the season to heal up to recover and to do all the things you're necessary.
Starting point is 00:27:01 So it's great that you found that routine. What's your goals in the future outside of obviously the team goals, Super Bowl and playoffs? What are your personal goals? Personal goals? I would say defensive player at a year. Definitely keep stacking on the Pro Bowls, Super Bowl. And just really, like my main goal every year is just to be that guy at the corner position.
Starting point is 00:27:25 Like they need me to go out there and be a dominant number one corner, take away my side of the field. And that's my goal to go out there. Don't give them no catches, make plays, and just be that guy for the team. You know, somebody that could be counted on. You're dang sure counting on right now. And when you're that guy, your pockets get counted on.
Starting point is 00:27:43 So I'm happy to see you getting what you deserve and continue to play at a high level. Let me know if you got any questions for me. I don't want to hold up your whole day. Yeah, no, for sure. No, I definitely got questions. We're here with a great Hall of Fame player, great talent. So I'll say, what separated you,
Starting point is 00:27:58 or what allowed you to play in such an elite level throughout your years in the NFL? I think it was the mental side of it. I think understanding the coordinators, understanding situational football. When I trained, I tried to make sure I kept it mental even when I'm training, even when I'm fatigued, even when I'm working my body and my body's breaking down
Starting point is 00:28:16 and we're running gassers, I'm letting my brain function because a lot of times you're in those situations in the game, that's when it's asked of you. It's not when you're comfortable and you're feeling good and you're doing all this. It's when you're dead, tired, your shoulder, kind of hurt because you just made a tackle you a little bit dazed and you're like it's third and five can I remember the concept that they run on third and five can I remember the concept they run on third and eight out of a bunch like hey when the when the receiver going motion and come back is it that double follow is it that drive is it drive basic is it spot seven what is the route concept and I would challenge myself when I'm super fatigued to be able to diagnose and really digest that information and it helped in a lot of those games because when you get those big games it's a two minute drive you see in Tom Brady and Aaron Rogers, you're seeing these dudes, and you've got to process it.
Starting point is 00:29:01 And that's the most uncomfortable time. And I think that's the hardest thing for guys, even when they're great in the classroom, and even when they can go and walk through and diagnose it. And you figured it out in practice. Can you do it in that game when the lights is bright as you're tired, you hurting, and be out there and go up and make the play? It's something to be able to see it and, hey, I know it's curl. I know it's dig and do this, but can you break?
Starting point is 00:29:23 And then when the ball coming, can I get the book? So that's what I want to ask you, too. So what makes you comfortable in those high tense situations? So you're going against Tom Brady, like two minutes on the clock, you know, tie game. Like what makes you comfortable in those high pressure situations? It was something that Pete Carroll really preached to us throughout our time. Everything is a championship game.
Starting point is 00:29:44 Like if you came to our practices, it would make a lot more sense. Because our practices were like games. Like we out there, like trying to kill each other. We out there full speed, got attacking. Like so when you get in the game, it's easier than practice because they're not, matching the intensity a lot of times. Every now and then they are, but for the most part, like, we never turn off. So that's what makes it tough an off season when it's time to turn it down.
Starting point is 00:30:06 They'd be like, you know, Art, they were turned down for what? Yeah, exactly. We were running and hitting everything moving. So just making sure that we took everything that series. And the guys around, I would say, held that standard. Like, you got Bobby Wagner, you got Earl Thomas, you got Cam Chancer, you got Mike Bennett, you got real. I had some boys.
Starting point is 00:30:25 We had some boys. So the standard is the standard all the time. And when you have that, you consistently are getting pushed every day. Like, if y'all don't, if y'all want the offense to move the ball, don't put them out here with us. Like, if you're, it's the offseason. You want, you want us to not go after the ball? You want us to not? Then don't put them out here.
Starting point is 00:30:41 Right. And don't put us out here. Exactly. Like, sure, they're going to find you. They're going to take your draft picks. If you put that ball up, we're going for it. Without. You know what I mean?
Starting point is 00:30:49 It's just the kind of guys we were. That's real. That's real. I appreciate that, man. Yes, sir. It was great having you, man. I appreciate you. I appreciate you taking the time to be on here with me.
Starting point is 00:30:58 I got a lot of respect for your game, and I want to keep in contact. Likewise, man. Yes, sir. Appreciate you, buddy. Yes, sir. All that. Welcome back to the Richard Sherman podcast,
Starting point is 00:31:07 and today we got an incredible guest receiver for the Green Bay Packers, Romeo Dobbs. Appreciate you joining me, brother. I appreciate you. So, you've been with the Packers your whole career. Hey, it's us, the Jonas brothers, and guess what? We have some big news. What's the news, huge news?
Starting point is 00:31:24 We created a lot. our own podcast called Hey Jonas. We invented a podcast? Well, we didn't invent it. We just contributed to it. We're the first people to do podcasts. Pretty, yeah, pretty wide range of podcasts. We're starting a trend.
Starting point is 00:31:36 But this one's extra special. So how do we actually come up with a name, Hey Jonas, guys? I honestly don't remember. I think it was on a call about what we should call it. Well, we were thinking I'm originally calling it one of the early names of our band before Jonas Brothers. This is how you guys remember it going down? Yes. I have a very different memory of this.
Starting point is 00:31:59 We were talking about a thing, a bit for the podcast, people could call in and say, hey, Jonas. And then I wrote down on my little notepad, Hey Jonas, and offered it up as a potential title for the podcast. But thanks for remembering that, guys. Listen to Hey Jonas on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcast. Just listen.
Starting point is 00:32:17 We don't care where you hear it. Another podcast from some SNL, late-night comedy guy, Not quite. Unhumor me with Robert Smygel and Friends. Me and hilarious guests from Bob Odenkirk to David Letterman help make you funnier. This week, my guest, S&L's Mikey Day and head writer Streeter Seidel help an a cappella band with their between songs banter. Where does your group perform? We do some retirement homes.
Starting point is 00:32:41 Those people are starving for banter. Listen to humor me with Robert Smigel and Friends on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Imagine an Olympics where doping is not. not only legal, but encouraged. It's the enhanced games. Some call it grotesque. Others say it's unleashing human potential.
Starting point is 00:33:00 Either way, the podcast's Superhuman documented it all, embedded in the games and with the athletes for a full year. Within probably 10 days, I'd put on 10 pounds. I was having trouble stopping the muscle growth. Listen to Superhuman on the I-Hard Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. The French Open is one of the toughest tests. in tennis. And I know firsthand because I competed there myself. I'm Renee Stubbs, and on the Renee Stubbs
Starting point is 00:33:29 tennis podcast, I'm breaking down everything happening at Roland Garris, every match, every upset, and what it really takes to win on Clay. Genschen went. I mean, she went down to three to Rabakina, but I'm delighted. She's an outsider to win the French for me. And she likes Clay. Listen, Lina Rabakina is arguably the best player in the world right now. And I actually can win on any surface because if she's serving, well, good luck. Consider this your court side seat to the French Open. Listen to the Renee Stubbs tennis podcast on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts.
Starting point is 00:34:05 Presented by Capital One, founding partner of IHeart Women's Sports. Welcome to my new podcast, Learn the Hard Way with me, your host and your favorite therapist, Kear Games. And in recognition of mental health awareness month, I'm bringing over a decade of my own experience in the mental health field and conversations with so many. incredible guests. I'm talking. Trip Fontaine, Ryan Clark. Sometimes when we're in the pursuit of the thing, we get so wrapped up in the chase that we don't realize that we are in possession of the thing and we're still chasing it and we don't know when we've done enough. Because people scoreboard
Starting point is 00:34:38 watch. Life becomes about wins and losses. Steve Burns, Dustin Ross, because you find it important to be a good person while you hear on earth or are you a good person because you're afraid? Because that's two different intentions, bro. Absolutely. And that's two different levels of trust. I want you to just really be a good person. Join me, Kear Gaines, as we have real conversations about healing, growth, fatherhood, pressure, and purpose
Starting point is 00:35:02 on my new podcast, Learn the Hard Way. Open your free iHeartRadio app. Search Learn the Hardway and listen now. Talk me through your journey with them. It's been an incredible deal. You know, it looks like you've had a tremendous amount of success, gotten better every year, been really dominant on the field. But tell me how you.
Starting point is 00:35:21 you see things going? I thought my growth internally was the biggest thing for me. I know because I know football, that's another world. I know that's the main thing, but I just want to say, yeah, those four years outside of football, I thought just my growth as a human also aligned with just some of my football play, you know what I mean? And yeah, I mean, I love the organization. I love how they, how they're structured. I love the process on how they go about things. And ultimately, if you just go down the line of who's been there, like it shows that they give opportunities for the players, not only to grow in the football world,
Starting point is 00:36:02 but just as a person as well, man. And, you know, I appreciate Green Bay dearly. And, yeah, bro, I mean, I love the organization, man. You've played fantastic. And you never know how other places are because, you know, your experience is only the team you played for and you got drafted to Green Bay. How different was that?
Starting point is 00:36:23 Because from the outside, looking in, I've only played there a few times. We've gone there with Thursday Night Football, but it looks like such a close-knit community, such a great fan base, obviously such a historic team. But what's been your experience as a player? I thought just, that's a great question, man. I think it just, I feel like everything was so on time,
Starting point is 00:36:46 just how everything played out throughout my years. It wasn't like I was a guy that, came in and had a blazing season. You know what I'm saying? Like every year it was something. You know what I'm saying? Playing ball and, you know, again, just in a situation alone, like, especially this year specifically,
Starting point is 00:37:05 it gave me an opportunity to actually, I wouldn't say being a leader, you know, because again, our team was so young where there was no guy that was in year seven, year eight, that can literally show us ropes where in this case we were growing as a unit and I've emphasized that I want to say going into my second year being under Matt LaFleur you know what I mean you yeah y'all you're Matt LaFleur and I guess your entire team your entire at least offensively have have preached this you know
Starting point is 00:37:39 everybody eats kind of what Buffalo says but you guys have said the same thing like you guys have a really great receiver receiving group you know Christian Watson you Matthew golden read So many guys that, you know, at any given time can just go off and take the game over. But in some capacities, I know, you know, just being honest, and I've said this a few times, but I know how receivers are and mentally everybody feels the guy. And when the ball spreads around like that, there could be a little bit of frustration and divisiveness. But your group hasn't, it doesn't seem like, at least from the outside looking in, you guys haven't dealt with that.
Starting point is 00:38:14 You guys have been really unselfish, really supportive of one another. And talk me through that, how that receiver room is so tight. Like you said, man, just supporting one another, bro. And again, like when, again, you get in the game and, you know, Jaden take over, I'm taking pride of my block. You know what I'm saying? Like, that's just what it was, you know what I mean? And ultimately, I mean, just being around them, it was amazing.
Starting point is 00:38:44 And like I said before, the biggest reason for it, it was just our growth, bro. And I preach that all year long, man. But when it comes down to this time, when you finally become a free agent, it leads to that question, can you be a true number one receiver in the National Football League? And I think teams are going to want that question answered. Obviously, your play answers it, but the opportunities are limited for them to see that. What do you have to say to those teams? I mean, I believe I could be a number one guy.
Starting point is 00:39:17 That's a no-brainer. But it's just, I mean, yeah, I don't really got nothing. No, but it's on the field you have been fantastic. You're an incredible deep ball runner. You're an incredible route runner. When the ball's in the air, you're a great guy. You win a lot of those matchups. Talk about what you could do with the amount of opportunities some of these receivers get
Starting point is 00:39:40 because some of these receivers are getting 150 targets again. I mean, a year, it's like you give me 150 targets. I'm going crazy. Yes, yes. That's any receiver. You know what I'm saying? And I thought, again, just being under this system, I did a fantastic job, just making the most of my opportunity of what I was given being there.
Starting point is 00:39:59 Because, again, man, everybody in that room can go at any moment, bro. No question. So what would you want for the future? Obviously, you've been with Green Bay your entire career. Would you want to stay there, have those conversations happen? Have you started to walk down the avenue? Or you're just letting your agent handle everything? Yeah, I'm going to let my agent handle everything.
Starting point is 00:40:20 because, again, you know, I'm new to this. I do have, again, I have some experience under my belt, but I don't want to do too much. I'm going to let him do his job. He's amazing at what he does. And, yeah, man, I'm going to just leave everything unknown because it's a lot near right now. Well, let's talk through this season because you guys came in.
Starting point is 00:40:38 I thought you guys were amongst the Super Bowl favorites coming into the year. You got Jordan Love, and he's been incredible. He's been a talk about him as a teammate and how he's helped elevate your game the guys around him and the growth that you've seen. Yeah, I love this, bro. Yeah. Yeah, because, I mean, I've been around Jordan. I mean, I was around him, obviously, when Aaron was there,
Starting point is 00:41:02 my rookie year before he took off or whatnot. But I just thought his growth, just as a player and his system, as a human, I just think it's amazing to see because not only is he the same person, but just some of the traits that he's been able to add on amongst himself. I just thought it was really, I thought it was really great to see him. man. I thought in that playoff game against Chicago, that might have been his best game of the season. I thought he executed the offense really well. What do you feel like went wrong in that game? I felt like you guys were in complete control. We had the game. So you guys ran the ball well with
Starting point is 00:41:33 Josh Jacobs. Early on, you guys freaking were controlling that. It looks like he was unstoppable in that game. You guys passed the ball efficiently and then things in the second half just kind of fell apart. What did you see? I don't, you know, and I still question it. But ultimately, there's a winner, there's a loser. Clearly the winner had the better game playing. And again, I'm just being on the bright side of things. Obviously, losing in the league is not it.
Starting point is 00:42:00 And, yeah, it just gives me something to learn from, to grow from. And obviously, just be better moving forward. You talk about, you're talking to somebody who know heartbreak from loss. You're talking to somebody who knows whose heart's been broken. So believe you me, I know how much it hurts to losing those playoffs. But you guys just played such a, had such a great offensive season. You played such a great game that way. And I just, I really admire how you guys support one another
Starting point is 00:42:27 because in a league that can be incredibly individual and selfish, you guys show an unselfishness in that room that's uncommon. Yes, yeah, man. So talk to me about LaFleur and how great of a coach he is. Oh, man, I love, I love LaFleur, man. You know, now that, man. Take a time. Yeah, yeah, I'm a time.
Starting point is 00:42:51 I'm going to take my time with this one, bro. Great offensive mind. And he's a huge part of, you know, I am where I am now, just in terms of just my football knowledge and just understanding the game, understanding the situations. I give him a ton of credit for that, bro. I just think, you know, he's very upfront, just honest, and very understanding.
Starting point is 00:43:22 You know what I mean? Yeah, I mean, the system that he runs, a lot of teams run, you know, some version of that system. So it's easy to see how you could fit in other places because so many of these teams have really tried to pattern their offensive scheme behind him, McBey, Shanahan, you know, which is a really cool scheme, which gives you a lot of opportunities in my mind. But, you know, we don't have to vote too far down that line. I ain't going to make you go to go there. But I appreciate you. You got anything for me? I appreciate you, man.
Starting point is 00:43:55 You know, glad to meet you in person. You know what I'm saying? Amazing ball player. Thank you. No problem at all. Well, I appreciate you joining me, brother. It's an honor to have you on. Good luck down the line, and I hope you get all the money you deserve.
Starting point is 00:44:12 Thank you. Hey, guys, it's us. The Jonas Brothers. I'm Joe. I'm Kevin. And I'm Nick. And guess what? We created our own podcast called,
Starting point is 00:44:25 Hey, Jonas. We invented a podcast? Well, we didn't invent a podcast. We just contributed to it. We're the first people to do podcasts. We get to ask other people questions because we're sick and tired of being asked questions. Well, sick and tired is a strong way to put it, but, you know, tired and sick. Tired and sick.
Starting point is 00:44:40 Listen to Hey Jonas on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcast. Just listen. We don't care where you hear it.
