Starting point is 00:00:39 Another podcast from some SNL late night comedy guy, not quite. Unhumor me with Robert Smygel and friends. Me and hilarious guests from Bob Odenkirk to David Letterman help make you funnier. This week, my guest, SNL's Mikey Day and head writer Streeter Seidel. Help an a cappella band with their between songs banter. Where does your group perform? We do some retirement homes. Those people are starving for banter.

This is Clivert Taylor the Fourth. And on my podcast, The Cliverts Show, I'm bringing you conversations about all kinds of stuff. Like being an internet famous referee. We're in the middle of a game. This linebacker, this linebacker walks up to me. He goes, hey, ref, my mom wants you to wave at her.
Starting point is 00:01:26 What? Time out. Quarterback on office blue with 42. Hey, Wreck, my mama want you to weigh better. What? Hey, Miss Parker. Listen to the Clifford show on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcast.
Starting point is 00:01:48 Hey, I'm Deanna Maria Riva, and on my new podcast, How Hard Can It Be? I call on my Gen X squad from Ohio to Hollywood as we navigate Midlife's most fantastic BS. Unfiltered conversations from night sweats to futas to scheduling sacks, Wait, what sex? Is it just me, or does every woman my age, want to look at Pinterest instead of having sex sometimes? Starting point is 00:03:00 Yes, Hulk Hogan, in 40 minutes from now. You know I love Russell Wilson. You know I'm from the Pacific Northwest. You know he comes on the show. Last night was a real treat for me. And it got me thinking, driving to work this morning. When you put in a certain number of hours doing something, it becomes part of you. You see somebody with a skateboard at 18 years old, and you're like, God, they're magical on that thing.
Starting point is 00:03:23 But they've been doing it since they were five. So 13 years of living and sleeping with that skateboard at night. I went to Vegas a couple of weeks ago, and I watched the 31-year-old musician. magician named Matt Franco. He's doing it since he's six. 24 years of card tricks. You could not separate his hand from cards. He was so comfortable.
Starting point is 00:03:42 There was no panic or no stress. Russell Wilson was allowed as a little guy to be a quarterback in high school. And so for two years of high school and four years of college and now eight years of the NFL, it is 14 years of playing one style of football. He's never had to change for anybody because he was always small and he's still small. and he's got his style and this is how he plays and it is magical. With Michael Vic, I had running Michael and pocket Michael. And Lamar Jackson, I've got running Lamar and pocket Lamar.
Starting point is 00:04:14 And with Russell Wilson, I can't separate it. I can't separate it. It's just the way he plays. It's the 17-year-old. You can't separate his foot from the skateboard. The magician, you can't separate the hand from the deck of cards. It's part of them. Russell's style
Starting point is 00:04:32 There isn't running Russell And pocket Russell This is it It's even in the pocket he's moving And crazy and clever and crafty Here's one of the specialties Last night On first down
Starting point is 00:04:47 Wilson keeps Surveys nowhere to go And back in the end zone Touchdown What a catch by Tyler Lockett Catch feet. That is unbelievable. On the run, running to his wrong side. When you've been doing something for so long,
Starting point is 00:05:12 Russell Wilson once told me as a kid growing up, he would go to malls and run at the crowd and Bob and Weave through the crowd. Five years old, six years old, that's what he's doing. A lot of quarterbacks have to change their style or they grow and they evolve. He's just been refining this for 14 years. years. Because even in high school, he was the smallest guy, and the coaches said he's too small to be a quarterback. And then he goes to college and they're like, he's 5-11. He's too small to be a quarterback. And then he drops in the third round. He's too small to be a quarterback. For 14 straight years, he's been sandpapering this gift, this style, and it hasn't changed for anybody.
Starting point is 00:05:50 It didn't change for his high school coach. It didn't change for his two college coaches. It's not changing for Pete Carroll. This is magic. And it really did remind me three weeks ago, I took my son to a magic, Matt Franco, he's a great magician, he's a card master. And he sat in front of us and cards just appeared out of his hands, rolled his sleeves up and he said, no cards. And then for seven minutes, 12 decks appeared in and out of his hands. You've got to be doing that for 25 years.
Starting point is 00:06:19 You go to bed with cards. There are running quarterbacks. I don't even classify Russell Wilson as a running quarterback. It's just that's his style. That's what he is. I don't know what you call that. But even in his pocket, he's dancing and he's moving, and he's finding space, and he's finding lanes because he's smaller.
Starting point is 00:06:38 It's the most unique thing I've ever seen. Steve Young's the only one I can even compare it to, but all these people, the Johnny Mansells and the Michael Vicks, we consider running quarterbacks. No, no, no, no. They would go back to pass and sometimes run. This is just one style. I can't separate it.
Starting point is 00:06:53 And when people are truly great at something, they never stress or they never panic. because they have so many hours doing it. Steph Curry and the ball, he never looks at it. It's just part of it. Michael Jordan used to, I used to watch Michael Jordan and think, God, there's 75 guys in the NBA that are 6'6. They're all kind of built like Michael.
Starting point is 00:07:14 He's not the only one that could jump. Dominic Wilkins could jump higher. He wasn't the strongest. He wasn't the biggest. Why does it look so effortless? Why can't every 6-6 guys shoot a fallaway jumper like that? He wasn't the best dribbler. He wasn't the highest jumper.
Starting point is 00:07:28 But it was effortless for Michael. And you're watching, you're like, why is it? I watched Russell last night and I'm like, why is it? It's just, he never gets hit. He never panics. He never stresses. He slides perfectly. His self-awareness is amazing.
Starting point is 00:07:44 And I guess they used to call it Malcolm Gladwell wrote the book, the 10,000 hour rule. I think this is the 14-year rule with quarterbacks. That this kid, Russell Wilson, has been doing this for 14 years. He has perfected it. When the Rams gave up 55 points to James Winston, you hang your head. I think last night you give up 30 to Russell and you're like, well, we did the best we could. I think there are people inside that room that think, hey, we went from 55 to James to 30 to Russell. What a night for us.
Starting point is 00:08:11 Because I don't think you can solve this riddle. I don't think you can solve Russell. I don't think you can coach against it. I watched that game last night with former Jets and Brown's head coach and Patriot defensive coordinator Eric Mangini. And he watched it and on multiple times he laughed. He's like, this is just a nightmare. Because Eric's a defensive coach. He goes, this is awful.
Starting point is 00:08:31 You can't defend this stuff. There's nothing you can do. And he kept going to his phone and he'd say, look at the night he's having. Look at the night he's having. Look at the night he's having. That was a showcase. That was a great magician. That was something, you're not, and that may have been as good as he ever played.
Starting point is 00:08:49 Incredible. So I want to shift gears to the L.A. Rams because all I've been hearing now, Jared Goff is really holding this team back. I mean, they're great, but if they could get the right quarterback, Jared Goff's fine. In fact, last night, he's the only thing I absolutely loved. Didn't love all their coaching, couldn't run the football. I got questions about the back end of their defense.
Starting point is 00:09:12 Goff's the thing I like. Here's the thing. There is a big difference between coddling a quarterback, Mason Rudolph Monday Night Football, Mitch Trubisky and Kirk Cousins only throw 10 times. That is babysitting a quarterback. There's a difference between that and once again last night asking Jared Goff to throw 50 times. That ain't coddling.
Starting point is 00:09:37 There's a difference between coddling my kids. Don't do this, don't do that. And then saying, guys, I'm going on vacation for two weeks. Just make sure the house doesn't burn down. That ain't coddling. Folks, he's carrying. He's not coddling. Their defense has issues on the back end, didn't love all their coaching, special teams missed a kick they should make. They have no running game at all. Todd Gurley, 15 carries 51 yards. In fact, they ran last night for 82 yards, a third of it on one play, a trick end around to Brandon Cooks. Their offensive line is old, very low graded on pass blocking. Once again, we're blaming the wrong person. Jared Goff at the end of that game was excellent. He was Tom Brady cool, calm, and collected.
Starting point is 00:10:26 With a pass rush, an eroding offensive line, no running game. I thought he was excellent. I thought he looked like Brady in a playoff game. Totally under control. Never stressed or panicked. So you keep thinking Goff's the problem. He's the one thing I like going forward. I like their receiving core and I like Goff.
Starting point is 00:10:46 And I like how they're conjoined. And after the game, I mean, again, a lot of people are freaking out this morning. The Rams are 3 and 2. The reason I think they're okay, I looked at their next eight games, it's not the O line, it's not the run game, it's not Marcus Peters blown another coverage. It's Jared Goff. Here's him after the game. We've been 3 and 2 before and made the playoffs two years ago.
Starting point is 00:11:11 And if I remember correctly, the Patriots were 3 and 2 last year and won the Super Bowl. And so there's a lot of game left. You know, we've got a really good group in there. And, yeah, we're going to bounce back. We're fine. You know, obviously, you don't want to lose two in a row at any point. But we've got a big, another big division one next week. So we've got no time to waste.
Starting point is 00:11:29 They've asked him to throw the ball 117 times in two weeks. By the way, the Rams are 25 and 3. 25 and 3 when they've simply asked Goff to throw it less than 40 times. And a lot of those are 36. That's not coddling. That's not protecting. That's not babysitting. Mason ruled off Monday Night Football's babysitting.
Starting point is 00:11:52 Mitch Tramisky's babysitting. Kirk Cousins, they win 10 throws. That's babysitting. That's fourth quarter drive with two minutes left. That ain't babysitting. That's Brady. That's a veteran quarterback marching down the field. That's Brady.
Starting point is 00:12:05 That's Breeze. That's a guy that's been around a long time, rolling out, making plays more athletic than you think. Cool, calm. Noisiest stadium outside of New Orleans. in the National Football League. Pete Carroll's one of the best defensive coaches outside of Belichick in the NFL, and you're telling me that's the liability?
Starting point is 00:12:21 I'm showing you that's the liability? That's the strength. That I trust. His dad played Major League Baseball. He's way more of an athlete that everybody contests. I keep hearing he's not an athlete. You keep telling me Baker Mayfield's an athlete. He runs a 4-8-40.
Starting point is 00:12:35 Jared Goff's dad played in Major League Baseball. That's an athlete. He made two really athletic throws last night down the stretch. All right. Coming up next, Hulk Hogan's in about 20 minutes from now, that'll be fun. And coming up next, eventually, I don't want to hear about your talent. Because I think most pro athletes are talented. And I keep hearing about one guy's talent, Aaron Rogers.
Starting point is 00:12:58 You know what I want now? Stop telling me about your talent. I'm going to throw some numbers at you about Aaron Rogers and why I'm tired, like Jason Garrett this week telling me how great he is. I want to hear about how great it. actor is. Does anybody go watch your movies? If not, you're overpaid. That's coming up. Plus blazing 5 and 45 minutes. 72% this year. Absurdly hot, it can't last. Be sure to catch live editions of the herd weekdays in noon Eastern 9 a.m. Pacific on Fox Sports

And on my podcast, The Cliverts show, I'm bringing you conversations about all kinds of stuff, like being an internet famous referee.
Starting point is 00:15:32 We're in the middle of a game. This linebacker, this linebacker walks up to me, he goes, A, ref, my mom wants you to wave at her. What? Time out. Quarterback on office blue with 42. Hey, Brett, my mama want you to weigh better. What?

You might know me as that loud guy who yells out, help on the internet. Help! Somebody! But there's so much more to me than me.

This is Help from a Hypocrite, the worst advice from the dumbest people you know. Listen to Help from Hypocrat as part of the Mike Coutura Podcast Network
Starting point is 00:16:56 available on the IHart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Joy Taylor joining me, of Course on Undisputed this morning. So Joy is here as well. Hulk Hogan in about 15, 20 minutes. Just broke down the game last night, which I thought was unbelievable television. I mean, so fun.
Starting point is 00:17:13 Oh, so four hours of fascinating. And two very, very good football teams, you know, a football length difference. Rams win, Seahawks lose. I think both teams feel like playoff teams to me. They're both fine. Seahawks, four and one, Rams three and two, separated by inches. Biggest problem for me in that game for anybody is the Rams' lack of a running game. The other big game this weekend, of course, is Green Bay at Dallas.
Starting point is 00:17:37 That'll be one of my blazing five picks in 40 minutes. and, you know, Jason Garrett facing Aaron Rogers. Once again, he tells everybody, like everybody always does, how talented Aaron Rogers is. He's really good in the pocket. He's really good out of the pocket. He's really good on time. He's really good when the play breaks down. He is.
Starting point is 00:17:58 Go back and look at his career. You guys know the stats better than I do, but I bet his rating is better than anybody who's ever played the game. His touchdown to Interception Radio better than anybody's ever played in the game, all that stuff. He's a really good player. Yeah, how come he doesn't win more? He's become Johnny Depp. You keep telling me what a great actor he is. I don't go to his movies unless he plays a pirate,
Starting point is 00:18:19 and I don't think Aaron's going to do that. You've got to win more. Aaron Rogers, last three years, 13 wins, 13 losses and a tie. He's 500. Aaron Rogers, career road record, 40 and 41. But Colony's been hurt. Yeah, so is Marcus Mariotta.
Starting point is 00:18:36 And in the last three years, Marcus Mariotta has a higher win. percentage than Aaron Rogers. Win more, Chief. I'm tired of the condescending. I'm tired of difficult to coach. I'm tired of the commercials. Win more games, Aaron. By the way, when it comes to close wins,
Starting point is 00:18:54 Russell Wilson, 18, 12, and 1, games decided by a field goal. Or less. Aaron Rogers, 10, 19, and 1. Kay Johnny Depp, here's another 20 million for a movie I won't watch. Win more. Matt Ryan last year had unbelievable numbers. 35 touchdowns, 7 interceptions, 69% completion percentage.
Starting point is 00:19:19 But you know why we didn't talk about him? Those were equal to his MVP numbers. Why? He didn't win. He was 7 and 9. Why didn't we talk about Patrick Mahomes in college? You ever seen Patrick Mahomes college numbers? He threw for like 5,000 yards.
Starting point is 00:19:32 They were unbelievable. A zillion touchdowns, very few picks. Why? Because in college, his last year, they were 5 and 7. Aaron's the only guy that we keep hearing how great he is, and I don't win enough. He's a 13, 13, 13, and one quarterback last three years. And I don't want to hear about the injuries in coaching.
Starting point is 00:19:51 Marcus Marriota's been injured. Does he have great coaching? Does he always have great teammates? I don't want to hear about it anymore. I mean, we didn't talk about Mahomes in college, we talked about Baker Mayfield because he won. Mahomes is way more talent, didn't win. We don't talk about Matt Ryan when he has great numbers.
Starting point is 00:20:08 you've got to win games and you've got to win close games and you've got to win road games. Talent doesn't pay the bills. Winning does. And that's my thing on Aaron Rogers. Russell Wilson last night, eight years. I've got two Super Bowls, three division titles and 18, 12, and one in close wins. And never hurt. And gets along with mostly everybody.
Starting point is 00:20:30 And has great leadership skills. And never gets hit. So you get into the point now that I'm putting up. up with a lot with Aaron. I'm putting up with kind of the attitude. I put up with the ego. He's difficult on coaches. He can be difficult on, and now I'm just not getting enough winning. Again, Johnny Depp's great when he's a pirate. Aaron's pretty good at Lambo, but I need more than that at $35 million a year. Everybody said, oh, how do you justify Russell Wilson's contract? I don't know. I watched last night. That's justifiable. I can easily justify that. Yeah, my eyes are like,
Starting point is 00:21:04 Yeah, I'll pay that. Here's what I won't pay. Forty, 41 on the road. Bad and close games. Heard a lot. Tough to coach. That I don't want to pay for. Three and ten on the road, last three years.
Starting point is 00:21:16 One in seven on the road last year. Talent isn't getting my kids through college. Winning is. Coaches get fired if you don't win. Coaches don't retain their jobs because, you know, my roster over here. We got nothing but talent. Mark Jackson said that. They fired him.
Starting point is 00:21:35 Steve Kerr came in and. They kept him. Joy with the news. No, no, no, no, no. Turn on the news. This is the herd line news. Adam Gase announced Sam Darnold is officially out this Sunday against the Eagles.
Starting point is 00:21:50 Should be. Darnold was hoping to come back this week, but tests showed that his spleen is still enlarged and he could not be cleared to play. This morning, Adam Gase spoke on Darnel's disappointment about not playing this week. I felt bad for, like, what we told him. I mean, of course, the first thing he says is, you know, I feel like I'm letting other guys down.
Starting point is 00:22:12 You know, I mean, it's not about him. And he tried to do everything he could. He did everything he was asked to do. He did everything the doctor told him to do. It just didn't work out for him. Yeah, that's got to be very frustrating. Because it's just such a random illness for him to have in the first place. And, like, there's just no control over it.
Starting point is 00:22:34 there's nothing you can do. If you do everything the doctors tell you to do and your spleen is still enlarged, you can't go play. By the way, Andrew Luck played through stuff like this, and Andrew Luck retired. There's no question he should not be out there. If the risk is you get out there, and everyone is already considering to be a lost season,
Starting point is 00:22:52 if you get out there with an enlarged spleen, you get hit in the midsection, which is obviously available, and your spleen burst, then what are you going to do? And by the way, if there's any good with this, nobody's getting blamed. Adam Gase can say, you want me to win with my third string court?
Starting point is 00:23:09 There's no pressure on anybody. No, there's no pressure. You're losing games because you have an unforeseen illness. Nobody in New York should freak out. By the way, there have been lost seasons for teams. Tom Brady, Patriots had a lost season. Andrew Luck, they had two. Yeah, it happens.
Starting point is 00:23:26 No one's holding this against Adam Gase or the Judds. It's just one of those things. Like, it's disappointing. Obviously, we wanted to see what their offense could do, take a step up with Levy on Bell. another year with Sam Darnold. He'll get out there when he's healthy, as they should be. There's no reason to rush him back and make it worse.
Starting point is 00:23:41 This is not one of my Blazing Five games, by the way. I talked to people during the week. I think I told you on the air. I said, I saw a picture of Darnal a week ago in a T-shirt. I'm like, he looks thin. I'm like, he's not ready to play. So I would not put this in my Blazing Pye, because I never take double-digit favorite,
Starting point is 00:23:55 but I was like, take Philadelphia. I told a buddy, and he said, stay away. It feels like a trap. And I said, I don't think he can play. I just saw a picture of him. There's no way he's playing. And it's not going to get any easier for them either. They have the Cowboys next week than the Patriots.
Starting point is 00:24:07 Then they're at Jacksonville and at Miami. So just wait till he's healthy. You don't want to risk burst queen. So Patrick Mahomes is known for making highlight real plays. And last Sunday he had another one when he looked back at the ref before taking off on a long run. Got up a lot of attention on social media. And Mahomes was asked about his thought process on that play. I look back to see if there's a penalty.
Starting point is 00:24:31 And I saw that I had the room to run. I could probably get the first down, but I didn't want to run like 50 yards if I was going to call back and have to run another play. When I looked back on it, I was like, man, I don't know why I did that. But in the moment, I just kind of thought about it, and I looked back and I saw there was no flags, I took off. Yeah, he's another one of these players that the game slows down for him. You know, as he's watching the official, the game slows down for him. And, like, as he's running full speed, he has the wherewithal to check the referee. And that, you know, they always say, Joy, it takes year two or three and the light goes on.
Starting point is 00:25:06 Right. And maybe it's not the light goes on. The game slows down. Yeah. You can have that kind of self-awareness. And I know people hate this because, you know, it kind of feels like you're taunting or like you're so good that you have the ability to slow down and look at the ref. I mean, some people probably feel that way.
Starting point is 00:25:22 But he's just that good. And if you have it, you have it. And I don't think he did it to show anyone up. He just thought about it, had the space. to do it. He's also, he's so likable. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:25:34 He's kind of, you know what I mean? There's no, to be that good, and I don't sense any cocky, is so, he's such a, like Steph Curry.
Starting point is 00:25:42 He's just so likable. He does have, he does have a Steph Curry essence to him. Like a child. I will, if they had lost, we'd probably be looking at this a little differently,
Starting point is 00:25:52 but they didn't. So, like the results speak for themselves. Like, this could be the reason why they didn't lose. So I don't, I don't have a problem with it. And,
Starting point is 00:26:00 like I said, if the game is that slow for you and you can do those things, you can take advantage of those moments, then do it. Finally, the Cowboys offensive line may have finally caught a break. Lyle Collins has not practiced this week, but he is supposed to return to the team today and is expected to play on Sunday. Ty Smith
Starting point is 00:26:16 is still out with an ankle injury and is expected not to play, but Cam Fleming will start in place of him and he started three games in place of Smith when he was out last season. They won all three against the Redskins, Saints, and at the Giants. So that's somewhat good news for Dallas. Yeah, it's, listen, this offensive line, it feels like to me in the last two years, Joy,
Starting point is 00:26:36 they're just more starters missing games. I mean, they're all like first round guys. They're great. Well, that's eventually going to happen. Yeah, it is getting, some of these guys are under contract for many, many more years. But what you're seeing is that you see this in the NBA where a guy bumps knees, first three years in the leagues, he misses a game. Then he starts going on the, you know, I are.
Starting point is 00:26:55 Cowboy guys now are missing a lot of starts up front. I know that they weren't in the first four years. You just overcome those as a young lineman. I'm glad that they have a good replacement for Ty Smith in the spot, and obviously it's good news that Collins is going to likely play. The bigger thing to me is, are they going to be able to get Zeke going in this game? Because he was pretty much non-existent against the Saints, and you saw the result of that game.
Starting point is 00:27:17 So this is a huge game for the Packers and the Cowboys. Everyone's obviously going to be watching. I was looking joy at the games this weekend. I put five games down Joy that I thought were like the best watches. number one Dallas Green Bay number two was last night number three Monday Night Football Baker at San Francisco number four Baltimore
Starting point is 00:27:37 Pittsburgh number five Chicago London but that Dallas Green Bay game I know we all think it's big for DAC but again Aaron Rogers has to start winning these games and he's played very well in Dallas I think this is a He's comfortable in Dallas Yes I think it's a very big game for Aaron Rogers
Starting point is 00:27:54 Like I'm done with excuses You've got a real defense I'm done with it Yeah, and look, Devante Adams and the Cowboys offensive line kind of even out. That's exactly right. I'm done with the excuses, isn't it? Joy of the News. Well, that's the news. And thanks for stopping by.
Starting point is 00:28:10 The Heard Line News. You know when coaches and general managers and owners may not believe this, but I think it's very important that you watch young people. My son started playing Fortnite. like nine years ago. And suddenly, you know, if I was an investor, a professional investor, I would watch what my kids play. Remember the movie with Tom Hanks Big,
Starting point is 00:28:37 where he was transformed to a little kid and became this great toy executive? Because he saw the world through a child's eyes. And so sometimes general managers in their 60s or 50s or coaches in their 40s and 50s and owners in their 70s, they don't understand the influence, what's happening from 11-year-olds to 19-year-olds. So I'll give you an example, Steph Curry.
Starting point is 00:29:04 Steph Curry, kids have been mimicking Steph Curry and Jims for nine years because he looks like them. Shaq didn't look like them. LeBron doesn't look like them. Kevin Durant's seven feet. Steph Curry looks like a little kid during an NBA game. And so they go out in their backyard and they shoot threes and threes and threes. And so you're seeing Trey Young of Atlanta.
Starting point is 00:29:22 You're seeing now a generation of kids for the last nine years. In their backyard, they want to be Steph Curry. And it's interesting watching Russell Wilson. It's so exciting for me. When I watch college football on Saturdays, I'm seeing a bunch of kids that for the last seven to eight years have grown up watching Russell Wilson. And the GM says too small,
Starting point is 00:29:46 and the coaches don't think he's good as Aaron Rogers, but he's cool. And you go watch two at Alabama. That's Russell Wilson. You go watch Justin Fields at Ohio State. He got a lot of Russell Wilson. You watch Zach Wilson of BYU. That is a lot of Russell Wilson.
Starting point is 00:30:05 You watch Jordan Love at Utah State this weekend play LSU. That is a lot of Russell Wilson. But if I was an investor, what is my kid playing? Because I'm not in that world. I'm old. I'm an executive. I go to cocktail parties. I'm not talking to nine-year-olds. They're telling me where we're going to go.
Starting point is 00:30:23 And I think the ultimate compliment to Russell Wilson is that the resonance his game has. I'm watching these Saturday football games, and these kids are too young to have watched Michael Vic. They didn't watch Randall Cunningham. Okay. It's not Lamar Jackson. These kids are too good at college.
Starting point is 00:30:42 They've been watching somebody for at least seven to eight years, and I think it's the impact of Russell Wilson. And right now, you know, if you told me next five years, eliminate the geysers, who are the two quarterbacks in this league I'd want? Mahomes and Russell Wilson, I think would be by number one and two. Like Garoppolo gets hurt, like Deshaun gets hurt, like Wens get hurt. You know, a lot of these guys, Aaron Rogers, old brittle gets hurt. Gough like him, not special athletically.
Starting point is 00:31:08 I watch Russell Wilson, and I just see the ultimate compliment is, when I was a kid growing up, I imitated the legends. I did a Howard CoSell imitation. I did a Vince Scully imitation. I did a Keith Jackson imitation. They were the, you, you, you, that was the ultimate compliment. Those were the people I wanted to be. I've heard through my life a lot of DJs sounding like they want to be Howard Stern.
Starting point is 00:31:32 That's the ultimate compliment. I think you watch college football on Saturday. You see Russell Wilson's footprints all over college football. And last night having watched that game with a former NFL defensive coordinator for the Patriots, Eric Manjini, the thing that Russell Wilson creates is if you even go to Nick Saban, he has dominated college football for eight years, there's one style of quarterback he can't beat. Deshawn Watson and Johnny Mansell,
Starting point is 00:32:04 quarterbacks that go off script. And I think it's so amazing right now that we are segueing. We have two things going on in football that are so exciting and so good for the NFL. Number one, we have a generation now of kids who played on seven and seven, summer camps. Tom Brady didn't, Peyton didn't, Brett Farve didn't. So we have these swaths of these kids who have been quarterbacking since 11 in camps and had coaches and nutrition. So that's an incredibly exciting thing. And then we have college concepts brought to the NFL. So you've got all these young guys. That's why so few quarterbacks now in the first round bust. You have all these
Starting point is 00:32:45 young quarterbacks, the first generation to be playing in seven and seven camps since they were 11 that had quarterback gurus at 13. So it's the first generation of that. Now you've got their real gifts, their athletic ability, translating NFL or excuse me, college to the NFL. And it's happening simultaneously. By the way, I just read another story last night. There are five minimum. In fact, I'll say this. There are seven quarterbacks over the next two years. that are considered special first-round quarterbacks. So look at all the great quarterback play we have now. Seven more guys coming in.
Starting point is 00:33:24 And if the current trend stays the way it's been over the last five years, six out of seven or seven out of seven are going to work. They're going to work. And outside of one of them, the kid at Washington, they all move. They can all run. They're all special. They're all mobile. They're all athletic.
Starting point is 00:33:40 They can all dance. And a lot of this is Russell Wilson. You can sense Steph Curry's impact on the game. You can sense Russell Wilson's impact on the game. GMs may not love him, but kids did. And mimic them and now bring their gifts to the National Football League. All right, Blazing 5 at the top of the hour. So, WWE is officially here at Fox.
Starting point is 00:33:59 Tonight there's a huge event at the Staples Center. And so about two weeks ago, this has been going on. This has been in the works now for like a year and a half, two years here. And now it's officially it's here. And tonight's the big start up, the big show. And so years ago, I lived in Florida. and I worked out at a gym, and people said, oh, this is where Hulk Hogan works out. It was in Clearwater, Florida.
Starting point is 00:34:19 And so I used to go to the gym, and I never saw him because he was always traveling. But Hulk Hogan did not have social media, did not have Twitter, did not have Facebook. And he's in a class of 15 or 20 names in sports history that transcended sports. Allee's one of them. Tiger. You know, you see it sometimes out of sports. Oprah. There are, you know, there are people that transcend their industry.
Starting point is 00:34:43 The Hulkster was one of them, and he's going to be joining us next. Be sure to catch live editions of The Herd, weekdays in noon Eastern, 9 a.m. Pacific. I'm talking, Tripp Fontaine, Ryan Clark. Sometimes when we're in the pursuit of the thing, we get so wrapped up in the chase that we don't realize that we are in possession of the thing. And we're still chasing it.
Starting point is 00:36:09 And we don't know when we've done enough. Because people scoreboard watch. Life becomes about wins and losses. Steve Burns, Dustin Ross, because you find it important to be a good person while you hear on earth? Are you a good person because you're afraid? Because that's two different intentions, bro. Absolutely.
Starting point is 00:36:25 And that's two different levels of trust. I want you to just really be a good person. Starting point is 00:36:43 What's up, guys? This is Clever Taylor the 4th. And on my podcast, The Cliverts Show, I'm bringing you conversations about all kinds of stuff, like being an internet famous referee. We're in the middle of a game. This linebacker walks up to me, he goes, Hey, ref, my mom wants you to wave at her.
Starting point is 00:37:00 What? Quarterback on office blue 42. Hey, rec, my mama want you to wave at her. What? Hey, Miss Parker Listen to the Cliverts show on the I Heart Radio app Apple Podcasts or wherever you get your podcast Hey, I'm Jared Adano
Starting point is 00:37:23 You might know me as that loud guy who yells out Help on the internet Help! Somebody! But there's so much more to me than me. I'm an actor, I'm a comedian, and recently I've become quite the helper myself. And on my new podcast, Hope from a Hypocrite, I'll be changing lives, helping people in
Starting point is 00:37:42 need with my sage advice and thoughtful solutions. Sike, I'm a comedian. I'm not qualified to give good advice. Join me and my comedian friends as we riff, rant, recommend some of the most legally dubious advice known to man. If I'm calling you, even if you're on your phone, let it ring twice. One ring is too scary. Oh, cream a chicken suit.
Starting point is 00:38:05 Hey, cream, cream a chicken suit. This is help from a hypocrite, the worst advice from the dumbest people. people you know. Listen to Help from Hippocrat as part of the Mike Cultura Podcast Network available on the IHart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Cold and flu season. Vic's Sinex nasal spray uses direct that lasts up to 12 hours. It is cold and flu season. How do I know? Because I have a cold. Seriously. How do you get a cold in Los Angeles? Do you not get any better? Well, you know, it, you know what happened was I had a bunch of lacrosse kids over for a lacrosse team at Whittier College and you shake hands with 40 kids.
Starting point is 00:38:42 Somebody's got a cold. And I didn't immediately, you know, clean up my stuff. You got to take the emergency before you go to sleep. And then the day before I was in Vegas, I was at a funeral, unfortunately, and I had a lot of relatives and cousins. So I shook hands and hugged 45 people to 55 people there. Right. So over the course of 90 hugs, like shaking hands, 90 hugs, somebody's got a cold. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:39:05 And I got it. So this is my reality. You've been drinking the tea? Yeah, a little bit. That helps you last time. It did. No, but a Red Bull is so much more alpha. Nobody's ever said it's good for you.
Starting point is 00:39:17 I mean, if you go home and crash for the rest of the day, I recommend a lot of tea, OJ, chicken soup, sleep. Okay, top of the hour, Blazing Five. We're waiting for Hulk Cogan. I'm told he's going to be here. We'll have Blazing Five. It's the hottest Blazing Five has ever been. 72%.
Starting point is 00:39:32 We've never been hotter. I'm going to feel pretty good about it. Again, the games to watch this weekend, we obviously had an amazing game last night. You know, people complained for a couple of years. I didn't really understand the complaint. I was sitting with a coach watching last night, Thursday night football. He goes, let me tell you, coaches love Thursday night football because Pete Carroll walked into
Starting point is 00:39:53 that locker room last night and said, guys, I'll see you Wednesday. You don't get six days off during the NFL season. And you also don't hit for the week up to the game. So it's just warm up. So your game in Sunday afternoon, you don't do anything. You don't hit until Thursday night. You get four and a half days. And again, that's rare.
Starting point is 00:40:14 So in the NFL season, you don't get six-day vacation, and you don't get four and a half days of no hitting. So for three and a half hours, for 60 snaps, you know, it's really physical and you could be a little uncomfortable. But when I sat with the coach last night, he kept saying, these Thursday games, he goes, they're great. He goes, it's such a good vibe. If you win that Thursday night game, Pete Carroll walks into that locker room, guys, I'll see you Wednesday. It erupts. Well, when I first started, again, with anything that's new, people freak out and think it's the end of everything.
Starting point is 00:40:40 It's the end of the NFL and, you know, we have to lengthen the season. Like anytime anything changes for any reason. People change a logo and people freak out. So I think it's been enough years now that we've gone accustomed to it. Players have gotten used to it. Coaches know how to prep for it now. They've changed the games. Like you said, we have great games on Thursday night now.
Starting point is 00:40:58 So it's just completely different than it was when it first started. All right. What's the latest on the Holkster? Oh, he is. All right. Let's bring him in. He's got quite a posse here. All right.
Starting point is 00:41:09 Here we go. WAAE Smackdown, the Holtster. By the way, the Mount Rushmore, we talked about there are very few people in the history of sports. Why don't you come on over here? Come on over here, Hulk. Yeah, I used to work out at a gym in Clearwater, Florida.
Starting point is 00:41:39 No way, which gym? It was a gym that the killer bees used to work out in. Gold's gym. Yeah, Gold's Gym. And they used to say this is where Hulk works out, so I used to go there all the time. You got too big. You were never there.
Starting point is 00:41:48 own gym by then. Well, I had a place at my house. That's what they said. In the garage. And you had the speedboat, you go, you know, you did your own thing in Clearwater. That's right. I'm still doing it. I got a question for you. I asked Snoop Dogg this two days ago. When did you go from wildly successful wrestler? When was the first moment, Hulk for you that you knew walking out of your house, going to a store, it had all changed. You were global. You were a superstar. And you just couldn't go out and hang out and have a beer with buddies. Well, the first eight years, you know, we were doing the 300 miles one way to 300 miles back for $25 a night, $20, sometimes 30. And I did that for a long time.
Starting point is 00:42:29 And then I did, well, I went to New York with the old WW. Right. Wrestled Andre Shea Stadium, but it was still the wrestling company, you know, beer drinkers, cigar smokers. Then I went and did a Rocky movie. The movie played, things were still the same, you know, wrestling company, beer drinkers. even though the perception was, oh my gosh, there's Hulk Hogan and Sylvester Stallone. Is that what a wrestler really looks like? But all of a sudden, on January 23rd, 1984, when Vince McMahon took over his father's company, the WWE,
Starting point is 00:43:01 and I wrestled the Iron Sheik in Madison Square Garden. Iran was holding like 444 hostages at the time. There was a real political thing going on. And when I wrestled the Iron Sheik, I had a tiger hit, and I won the WWE title. The whole wrestling world changed. And at that moment, I went, oh my gosh, my career is never going to be the same. And it was like a rocket that took off to the moon. And I circled the moon.
Starting point is 00:43:25 I'm heading toward Saturn and all points in between. It's still going on. By the way, you embraced, you really, it was the good guys against the bad guys years ago. That was the imaging of wrestling. And you were the good guy. You like kids, take your vitamins. There was a point you did a little pivot to the bad guy side. And LeBron James said four years ago, he goes, for one year, I was a villain.
Starting point is 00:43:45 I like being a villain. You were always a better good guy. I felt you embraced that better. Well, the political landscape was different with LeBron. I mean, he was leaving a city that he loved and he grew up in, so they were mad. Right. But my thing was, I had a built-in following, you know, that really, really loved me for years and years and generations and generations. And then when I went on TV and said, the training, the prayers, and the vitamins, I did it for the money.
Starting point is 00:44:12 The people freaked out. But then when they saw Hollywood Hogan and how cool I was and the bad. guy thing, they started cheering me, you know, so I'd wrestle the Rock and Triple H and Stone Cold and The Undertaker, and the people would cheer for both of us. So the lines got really blurred, you know, but they never really booed me as a bad guy that thought the character was really cool, the Hollywood Hogan character. By the way, Rock, you are pre-Rock. Did Rock ever come to you? I'm free everybody. Just kidding. But you really did. You were the guy, you know, people have imitated Michael Jordan and basketball. Kobe sounds like him.
Starting point is 00:44:46 I feel like everybody took your brand and said, I'm going to do some of that. Did you sense that? Was there bitterness? Were you okay with it? No, it kind of like, they really didn't take my brand, but at a time it was just wrestling and taking the guy down, getting a body slam, rolling him up, who was the better wrestler? And then all of a sudden, I would slam somebody, but then I'd kind of look at the crowd with a goofy look, and the look got more of reaction than the move did.
Starting point is 00:45:11 So I went, oh, my gosh, that's what they want. They want the physicality. Plus they want to be involved and interactive and entertained. So the rock, I kicked the door open because, you know, with the wrestling, I kicked the door up with the entertainment part. I also kicked the door open because I made like 15 or 16 little kid movies. Right. Then the rock came along and he ripped the door up the hinges. I mean, he went bang, man.
Starting point is 00:45:35 And the thing was, the coolest thing was one of the times I wrestled Madison Square Garden, I threw my headband out and an eight-year-old rock copped my headband. Really? Yeah. Yeah, he tells the story right before the last Jimonji they were doing a press tour, and he tells the story about when he caught the headband. It's really pretty funny. Listen, there's a lot of good memories, but it also takes a wear and tear on your body. And when you decided to step down, was a lot of it just, hey, man, I'm worn that, like an old NFL player, like I'm worn out.
Starting point is 00:46:02 Well, I just walked in here on one crutch. So I'm going in for back surgery number 10, and I didn't get the memo that said it was all fake. I had this knee cut on five times, then replaced it, this knee, three. three times cut on, then replaced it. Both hips done. I'm going on my 10th back surgery, plus all kind of stuff from getting kicked and hit. I've been fixed and refixed. So it's tough on you.
Starting point is 00:46:24 It really is. And these young wrestlers, young sports entertainers that are going crazy and diving off the top ropes, I just pray for them that they stay healthy. By the way, you've done mostly very brilliant things in business. You did pass on the George Foreman Grill. Oh, stop. When you stop, that's not true. Do you believe everything you read, brother?
Starting point is 00:46:42 No. My kids were upset because I was always late picking them up for school. So I said, okay, I'm going to beat all these soccer moms today. So I went to McDonald's, got the burgers and had a little cooler, had everything ready. I got to school like at 2.30 instead of 3.30 to get my kids. All of a sudden, all the soccer moms were behind me. I got my kids home. They were excited because I finally got there early.
Starting point is 00:47:05 And when I got home, I pressed the old school recorder machine. Hey, Hulk, this is Sam Pearlmutter. I got a couple things. I've got a grill and I've got a blender. And I'm going to call you and George to see who wants it. Well, I wasn't there to answer the call. So when I called Sam back, I said, hey, Sam, what's up with all that stuff? Man, I'll take the grill.
Starting point is 00:47:22 He goes, well, I called George and George took the grill. So basically, $550 million later, you know, George got the George Foreman lean, mean grilling machine, and I got a blender with a double-a battery that you put one scoop of protein in it would fart and turn off, you know. So I didn't pass on anything, brother, just for the record, for the thousandth's time. I didn't pass on anything. I missed the phone call. It's been an absolute pleasure. I want to say this.
Starting point is 00:47:47 W.W.E. 2K.20 is available in three weeks pre-order now. It's a new video game with you. Well, you know what this is going to do? It's got all the superstars from all the generations. This actually bonds the family together, brother. The grandfather and grandma that used to watch me, their son and daughters, and now the new generation of the kids, there's three or four generations that are going to have fun watching.
Starting point is 00:48:08 Hulk Hogan, Andre the Giant, Mankind, China. Triple H, Stone Cold. I mean, this is the cat's meow as far as wrestling. If you want to get up to speed with what the wrestling business is all about, this WWE2K20 game that's coming out, this is the home run of all home runs. I mean, that looks better than I did back in my head. I'm going to say, good Lord, he's totally cut.
Starting point is 00:48:31 I got 45 seconds left. Andre was the strongest. You lifted him and slammed him. The only guy to do that. He was the strongest, right? Andre was the strongest. He was really hard to deal with. Yes.
Starting point is 00:48:42 Okay, so, and he weighed for... Well, he went between 500 and almost 700, depending on his diet. But he was a nice guy? He could be. The last 10 years, him and I got along great. When I first started, I was a little arrogant and cocky as a youngster, and he kept me in line. Kept you in line like... Like, I mean, beat the tar out of me in the ring to teach me a lesson, brother.
Starting point is 00:49:03 But he was, no, he was a great guy. I miss him so much. I mean, it's just, I see his picture, and it's just hard to watch. You know, he was a really great friend and a really great person. God, look at you guys. guys, look at you. Friday night Smackdown, Fox premieres the night 8 Eastern. Absolutely pleasure. You're a good guy. Everybody I know in the entertainment business speaks highly of you
Starting point is 00:49:21 and I'm happy for everything. Six WWE World Heavyweight Championships. Thank you, Hulk. Thank you, guys. Thank you. Where's my coffee? We'll get it for you. We'll get it for you. Thank you, brother. You're crushing your coffee. It's coming. Back in the second, Blazing Five. One more herd? Starting point is 00:52:33 I think it looks like it's going to be interesting. On the podcast, Reality with the King, I, Carlos King, recap the biggest moments from your favorite reality shows, including the Real Housewives franchise, the drama, the alliances, and the T, everybody's talking about. As an executive producer in reality television, I'm not just watching it. I understand the game. As somebody who creates shows, I'll even say this. At the end of the day, when people are at home, they want entertainment. To hear this and more, listen to Reality with the King on the IHard Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcast. The Hulkster, that was fun.
Starting point is 00:53:15 Hour 2, live on L.A. on Friday. This is The Herd, wherever you may be, and however you may be listening. We're on IHeart Radio, Fox Sports Radio, and FS1. It is great to have you. We're on FS2 now, actually. We get bumped. What, a baseball game or something like that? Baseball playoff game.
Starting point is 00:53:32 Something like that. Dodgers won last night. They won their opener. Shut out the Nats. So the Nats are like the Nats. That's what they do in the playoffs hit. And Joy Taylor is joining me. Joy, how are you?
Starting point is 00:53:42 I'm great. It was fun. You know, Hulk Hogan is such a big personality. He just turned the light, you know, he's hobbled into the studio, then just turn the lights on, and he was just very funny for 10 minutes. He was just a pleasure. I mean, yeah, legendary. Just a legendary guy. He knew when the light was on, and it funny that he was, for years and years, he was eight years he was doing that. And it was the iron chic and the political stuff with the Middle East, and that in New York City was the day at all turned. Isn't it an amazing that was the moment?
Starting point is 00:54:11 It is. It's always funny. I love when you ask those questions of legendary people like that. Yeah, Snoop that and Hulk. Because people always think it's like, oh, like you're an overnight success. Like, no, there's 10 years of me being a success. There's nobody knew about it. It's always a moment that happens for everyone. Think about this.
Starting point is 00:54:30 Russell Wilson, his college coach, after three great years, said, we're going to move on. He has to transfer to Wisconsin. Then he comes into the NFL. And let's be honest, Joy, for the first five years, well, it's the defense. Well, it's Pete Carroll. it's just now. This is the first year of Russell Wilson where we're going, oh hell, he's pretty good.
Starting point is 00:54:50 Yeah. It's his eighth year. Like people forget this overnight success. Sometimes I'll go out and if I have to do a speaking engagement, you know, and parents will ask me, what can you give advice? And I always say, like, I really can't. Like either you want it more than anything in the world or you don't. And there is no advice that's going to get you to.
Starting point is 00:55:13 be Russell Wilson or Oprah Winfrey. There is no advice. Well, you either have it or you don't, but the only advice that I ever give is you have to have a goal. I mean, master of one or, you know. Wayne Gretzky always said, my dad could not get me off the ice. Yeah. I would be on the ice in our backyard till midnight.
Starting point is 00:55:30 And you can't teach that. You just, it's, it's, and that, by the way, doing that for years and year creates the it. You don't born with the it. It's years of literally obsessive detail and interest. All right. Blazing Five. At some point, you're going to have to fade me, but I love my picks this week. And it was an interesting week. I have taken more favorites this week and this year than I usually do.
Starting point is 00:55:54 I have always been a big underdog fan, but I think the NFL is changing. I've tried to evolve with it here. We're getting more scoring late. We're getting more touchdowns late. The gap between starting quarterback and backup is not as great. So I'm taking more favorites, better teams to cover. and here's our blazing five. That's a hot one. Let's blaze it up. Fire it up. It's Collins, blazing five.
Starting point is 00:56:20 Bears and Raiders. I'm going to take Chicago, the favorite in London, minus four and a half. A better organization will travel well than a chaotic one if you have to go to Europe. By the way, I don't believe the Bears going to a backup as a true backup. Chase Daniel, to me, is as good as Mitch Trubisky. I don't think it's worth more than a half a point. The Bears defense this year, second or third in every meaningful category. In fact, Khalil Mack has 17 sacks since the start of last year.
Starting point is 00:56:50 The Raiders have 18 as a team. And yes, the Bears can be limited at quarterback, but they're tied for the NFL's best turnover differential plus six. So they got limitations at quarterback, but they don't make a lot of mistakes. I'll take the Bears to win and cover 2923. Cardinals at Bengals. I'm going to take Arizona to win their first game plus three with Kyler Murray. So with Cincinnati, I got their two dynamic perimeter players, AJ Green and John Ross out.
Starting point is 00:57:23 I don't have a dynamic quarterback. So where do I get dynamic playmakers? Cincinnati can't do anything. They can't score. They can't rush their bat in the red zone. Arizona has issues. But Arizona's got a playmaker in Kyler Murray, a creative head coach, Larry,
Starting point is 00:57:41 Fitzgerald. I do feel like in a low-scoring game with two bad offensive lines, at least I have guys on Arizona's side that can make plays. By the way, Cincinnati's become a bad football team, two and 13 in their last 15 games. Cincinnati's awful. And I don't think there's a lot of hope in that locker room. I think Arizona's got all sorts of hope. I'm going to take the Cardinals with the upset, plus three, 26, 24. Bucks it Saints. Tampa Bay is so amazing. No, they're not. They're a losing franchise that had a good Sunday.
Starting point is 00:58:16 The Saints are a winning franchise for 15 years. I'm going to take the Saints minus three at home. The bottom line in betting, take the team who you think is going to win the game, right? Like, generally, don't worry about points. I think New Orleans is a better football team. So New Orleans and Tampa, the line is three. Are you telling me the only difference is the Superdome? That you think these teams are even?
Starting point is 00:58:37 Because that's what a three-point spread says. These are even teams, and New Orleans' only advantage is playing at home. Nonsense. But they are playing at home where they're 15 and 2 the last two years. And outside of a bad officiating call, they could be 16 and 1 the last two years. And since the start of last season, Tampa Bay has allowed 30 points 11 times. Most in the NFL. I think New Orleans gets off on some points this weekend after being, you know,
Starting point is 00:59:04 they kind of had to pick and choose getting their points against the good Dallas D. New Orleans wins. they're the better team here. The line should be bigger. I'm betting a number. New Orleans 30, Tampa Bay 23. Vikings a Giants. I'm taking another favorite.
Starting point is 00:59:18 I'm going to take Minnesota minus four and a half. So this week I wrote down the 10 best players in this game at home and a piece of paper. Vikings had nine of them. This is a personnel mismatch. Minnesota was embarrassed last week. Good rosters and good coaches that are embarrassed, bounce back. And by the way, Kirk Cousins, last two years following a loss, is actually pretty good.
Starting point is 00:59:40 He's not good in prime time, but the week after he loses in prime time, 12 touchdowns, two interceptions. The Giants haven't won three straight games in three years. This is a talent mismatch. Now, I don't think Kirk Cousins is great, but I think he's as good as a rookie quarterback,
Starting point is 00:59:56 and I also think, you know, it's a one o'clock start. It's not a primetime game. He can hide a little bit, and I'm going to swallow the four-and-a-half, take Minnesota. Ten best players. I got nine of them.
Starting point is 01:00:08 being Vikings 3023 Minnesota. Packers at Cowboys. I'm going to take points here. This feels obvious to me. This feels like really obvious. I get a significantly better quarterback and I get over a field goal. I'll take Green Bay plus three and a half. Listen, the Cowboys in the first three weeks were one offense.
Starting point is 01:00:27 And then last week against New Orleans, they were a second offense. What are they? My guess is somewhere in between. The Packers defense ranks top three in yards allowed. takeaways their fourth, seventh in scoring. And again, this is an Aaron Rogers team, so they don't give it back to you. So they're not going to give DAC a short field and Zeke in that offensive line of short field. This is a Green Bay team that is upgraded defensively.
Starting point is 01:00:51 They're very good in the first half. That could take the crowd out of it in Dallas. And I think it's a real urgent game for Green Bay. I think it feels like after being humiliated on a standalone Thursday night game, the whole world watched Green Bay at home. get pushed around. I think their defense says, okay, fellas, okay, fellas, come on. I think Green Bay is going to win this game outright. They're getting three and a half points. I think they're going to win it outright, close 27, 26. Yeah, I have a rule joy. I've done this for years.
Starting point is 01:01:24 If a good unit gets embarrassed, I think the Packers defense is good and gets humiliated, they'll play well the next week. So I got, there's my blazing five picks. Feel good about it. And by the way, a lot of you are probably saying, how can you take Arizona? When you got two bad teams, but you have playmakers on one of the bad teams, Arizona, you take it. So once again, I'm going to take the Bears minus four and a half, Arizona plus three, Saints minus three, Minnesota minus four and a half, and Green Bay is going to win outright, plus three and a half against Dallas. I was kind of surprised at that line. I would have thought it would have been.
Starting point is 01:02:00 Yeah, that is surprising. Yeah, I think Green Bay is right now with that quarterback in this urgent spot. it should have been closer to a pick-um. I think Green Bay is going to be a better team. So I'm excited. We have Drew Bledso last hour. We have Brock Heured, former NFL player. He does Seattle Radio, did for years.
Starting point is 01:02:19 So he knows Russell Wilson. He's watched every Seahawk game. He also did the USC Washington game. USC is going to be looking for a new coach. He's a new addition to the Fox family, super talented broadcaster. I went to our talent department about two years ago, and I said,
Starting point is 01:02:35 get Brock Heward here. He's really good. He'll be joining us in studio. That's coming up on a phone, excuse me. That's coming up next. Be sure to catch live editions of the herd weekdays in noon Eastern, 9 a.m. Pacific. On Fox Sports Radio, FS1 and the IHeart Radio app. Last night, a blown call changed a game. And we're still chasing it. And we don't know when we've done enough. Because people scoreboard watch. Life becomes about wins and losses. Steve Burns, Dustin Ross, because you find it important to be a good person while you hear on earth. Are you a good person because you're afraid? Because that's two different

What? Time out. Quarterback on office blue with 42. Hey, Rhett, my mama want you to weigh better. What?

Starting point is 01:06:23 It's October. That means it's Geico Ween. I didn't write this. Don't be scared by high rates. Could save 15% or more on car insurance so much. It's scary. Geico. Ween.
Starting point is 01:06:32 Get a quote with Geico. Media buyers can really dance. up a script, can't they? Really talented. Brock Heured was a long-time radio voice in Seattle. He was the NFL quarterback drafted by the Seahawks, by the way. Back in 1999, third-round draft pick played for the Seahawks for three years. Now he's part of our Fox family. He just got done watching Oregon practice, Justin Herbert.
Starting point is 01:06:58 And we were just talking about 15 minutes ago about, it used to be first-round quarterbacks that went college to the NFL were a 50-50 proposition. The last 20, one has missed Paxton Lynch. The college schemes are now part of the NFL. I think two is going to be a hit in the NFL. I think Justin Herbert's going to be a hit in the NFL. I think there's a kid at Utah State. Jordan Love, nobody's seen. There's a kid at BYU named Zach Wilson, who's hurt now, but very interesting. And Brock Hewer is just joining us. He does the Cal Oregon game. You just watched Justin Herbert practice. There's no that the college quarterback to the NFL transition, Brock, it's working now.
Starting point is 01:07:39 It's working fast. Even guys like Josh Allen at Wyoming, who I thought were complete and utter projects, are now winning games. What did you make of Justin Herbert? You watched him live here in the last hour. Colin, there is one guy that you've got to add to that list, and that would be Jacob Easton up at Washington. And I was just chatting with Bruce Feldman on the field.
Starting point is 01:08:01 And last week we had Jacob, and we met with Jacob, and we're minutes away for meeting and sit down with Justin Herbert, and they're almost identical. They're both six-six. I think Herbert's a little stronger, a little better athlete. I think Jacob throws it actually better and freer and easier than Herbert does. And I also listened to you yesterday with Urban Meyer, and he's right. I mean, the amount of reps and work, calling that these guys got. So I was a two-year high school starter.
Starting point is 01:08:28 We played nine games the season, made it to the playoffs. So I played 20 high school games before I went to college, and I redshirted. And then at that time, I think. we had just transitioned to 12 games in the season. Think about these high school and college kids. Trevor Lawrence was a four-year starter in high school. Do you know how many starts he made? I made 20. He made 55 start in high school. My nephew, Sam Heward, the top 20-20, 2021 quarterback in America. He's going to be a four-year starter in high school. He's going to start over 50 games before he goes to college. And then many of these kids are playing young like Easton did, like Herbert did as true freshmen.
Starting point is 01:09:04 And so just the amount of hours, the thousands of hours, the thousands of reps that they get to play, it just expedients the process so much at the quarterbacking position. I want to talk about the Seahawks in a second, but I'll stay with college. You watched USC last week. Yards were pretty even, but they made mistakes. They've got all sorts of talent, but Washington beat them. It's very clear that it's the best football brand on the West Coast, but it's been underachieving for several years. How do you fix USC football?
Starting point is 01:09:33 they're going to make a change. Everybody understands that now. Do you go for the big name? Do you go for the young guy, the Cliff Kingsbury? Which direction do you think is the appropriate one? No, I think you've got to go with somebody that knows what that job is all about that is not intimidated by walking in there. You don't go with Tirk. You don't go with Kiffin. You don't elevate from within. You get somebody that has been there and done it before. And Colin, I will tell you, that group, whoever that coach is, that's going to inherit that group, if Clay doesn't go undefeated the rest of the way and beat Notre Dame and win the South and the whole deal,
Starting point is 01:10:07 he's going to walk into a crew up front that is much, much better than Clay got and much, much better than they were. were a few years. NFL dudes that de-tackle, three of them, NFL left tackle, NFL left guard. I think they're going to compete and be in every game this year. And I think they got a great shot to win the Pact 12 South after already knocking off Utah. But to me, that's a job that really requires someone that's got just a stone because he's been there and he's done it before. You know, one more college question. Clemson, I thought, could be historically good on offense. they have sputtered. I do think it's difficult when kids have social media, they get gassed up.
Starting point is 01:10:47 Are you shocked how pedestrian at times Clemson has been? Yeah, handling success is hard. And I know that's at the epicenter of everything that Davo preaches and why they've been so good. They tackle that challenge of entitlement day in and day out. They're not as good as they've been in the past up front, right? That to me is what has really stood out. And even going into this year, they lost so much experience. up front on the line of scrimmage.
Starting point is 01:11:13 And I know you got Trevor Lawrence, then you got a tempo system, and you got RPO's, and all that stuff is supposed to handle it. But, you know, in Mitch Hyatt, they lose a four-year, all-American left tackle,
Starting point is 01:11:22 and you don't just plug and play somebody else right into that situation. So, you know, they're going through a little bit of a learning curve. That group's got to get better up front. You know, they match up with Ohio State, even Oklahoma, Alabama, anybody in the playoffs,
Starting point is 01:11:35 that group over the next six weeks on the offensive line has got to get markedly better. Brock Heward, one of our Fox Sports College football analysts, so talented, did radio in Seattle, highest-readed show in that market for years. And I want to shift to Russell Wilson. And you have the advantage, having been a pro athlete, that when you go to a practice, you know, you're in the club. I'm an outsider.
Starting point is 01:11:59 They may know who I am, but you're in the club having played in the NFL. Russell and you share, I think, a conviction. You have many traits that are very. similar. And I heard years ago, people said, oh, is Russell Wilson authentic? And I'm like, show me the inauthenticity. I find him to be exactly what I want in a quarterback. I find him to be decent, authentic, hardworking, driven. I think he's a terrific leader. Everybody works with him. Undrafted receivers, rookies. Will Disley now, a blocking tight end. You know Russell a little bit. Tell me what I don't know, because I just see a lot of special.
Starting point is 01:12:39 February, he's absolutely everything he said. Where it gets a little bit wonky is like February to, you know, May. And his brand is a little bit wonky off the field. And some of the social media stuff and all the different businesses the guy has had, from nanobbles to molecular bed, mattresses, you know, just kind of crazy stuff as far as his business brand goes. But his football brand, from June to February, is spotless. And the only thing he reminds me of is a consistency, from a consistency level, Colin, is the guy that I backed up for two years in Indianapolis, who every day was so regimented in his routine,
Starting point is 01:13:22 whose hours and the tireless work ethic to be not just good or great, and this is Peyton Manning, but to be the best who have ever played the position? And a lot of guys will say that, but who can actually do it and have the discipline to do it every single day? And I'll leave you with one more little anecdote. We do their preseason games, Kurt Menopi and I do. and we were down in L.A. playing the Chargers. And, yeah, I got a little relationship with Russell, so, you know, we'll text occasionally or I'll see him occasionally. But in the hotel, day of the game, okay?
Starting point is 01:13:50 This is day of preseason game, I believe, number two. He has his own physical therapist who travels with him. He's got his own nutritionist. I see him on the elevator with her. They just got done doing all their movement and PT work. And then, you know, an hour later, he's in the weight room. This is day of game with his strength and conditioning coach who he traveled. with going through an entire workout, right? And then I'm, then he meets with his sports psychologist.
Starting point is 01:14:15 I mean, he invests more money into him. I'm going to say well into seven figures on the people around him. This is not an entourage. This is a business, man. This is my business to being the best to ever play. And I'm going to pour money into into me, the asset in ways that man, even Peyton didn't do that. I've not been around any professional player that invest in himself the way that Russell does. You know, it just, it was so much fun to watch last night. You know, the NFL, it is such a tough league. It's hard to keep weight on.
Starting point is 01:14:50 Trent Dilfero always said, get ready to put on some pudding because you're going to get hit like you've never been hit. Russell never seemingly gets hit. But it's funny. I watched Jared Goff last night. And, you know, a lot of people say, well, you know, Jared, it's McVeigh. I got to tell you, I think he completely. I thought he was great last night, especially late, but he's not like you.
Starting point is 01:15:14 He is a pocket passer, so he needs good tackles and he needs a running game. What do you see when you see golf? Because living here in L.A., I hear a lot of criticism of him, and I really like him. I see a toughness that I would have never forecasted, Colin. Having seen him in college and watched him in sunny system and the whole air raid deal and sitting in the gun and throwing, and I thought in some big games, Utah in particular, year, a bunch of picks just got rattled. I just, I didn't know if he had the physical, emotional, the mental fortitude to do it week in and week out. And that is the thing that is
Starting point is 01:15:50 just remarkable. He takes shots. He takes hits. That two-point run, he gets bent over backwards. He does not flinch. I mean, those things are extraordinary, and it is why I think they invested in him and believe in him. But you watch those two quarterbacks. And this league right now has a guy named Mahomes and a guy named Wilson. And those are the two that are doing things physically that are absurd. I mean, you know, yeah, you can tell and say, hey, I played six years in the league
Starting point is 01:16:16 and whatever. When I watch those two play the position, I might as well have been a nose tackle. I mean, it is a totally different game that they play. And when Jared Gough gets pressure in his face, and you saw Pete Carroll and Ken Norton say over and over and over again, we're going to bring
Starting point is 01:16:33 the heat right in his face. You know what? Those were the misthroats. Those were the near Those are the balls that get away. When Russell Wilson takes pressure, he's dancing through raindrops. It does not matter. Oh, you want to bring pressure up my face fine? I'll flush left. Oh, you want to bring outside, I'll flush out.
Starting point is 01:16:47 You want to let me sit in the pocket and throw 50 yards down the field? Great. Those two, Mahomes and Russell, are just playing a game that really nobody else in this league is playing. Because no matter what hand you throw at them, they find a way to beat that hand. Cal at Oregon, Saturday, tomorrow, 8 Eastern Fox, Brock Heard will be the analyst there. absolute pleasure talking to you, Brock. Congrats on coming to Fox. We love having you. Thanks, Colin. Appreciate it, man.
Starting point is 01:17:12 Yeah, that's a great way to put it. Russell runs in the rain, and the rain drops and doesn't get wet. He's just flying around, and that was so good. It was just fun to watch. Oh, so good. There's a baseball playoff game, and I generally love baseball playoff games, but I was just glued to it. It was so much fun to watch it with an NFL coach. Me and Mancini just sat there, and I'd ask him question after question,
Starting point is 01:17:33 and he'd roll his eyes at Russell. like, let me tell you something. This is no fun to play against. He was a former coordinator. This is just there's nothing fun about. I mean, how do you even game plan for that? You don't. They're just stuff you can't do. Running in the rain, don't get wet.
Starting point is 01:17:49 By the way, wiper blades, Michelin Endurance XT silicone wiper blades, real world proven, extreme weather performers two times longer than other blades. That's how long they last. These blades only available at Walmart, Michelin Endurance XT silicone wiper blades,
Starting point is 01:18:06 Troy Taylor with the news. No, no, no, no. Turn on the news. This is the herd line news. So the Vikings receivers have not been very successful with Kirk Cousins this season. Adam Thielen called Cousins out after the loss of the Bears. And yesterday, Stefan Diggs did not exactly deny rumors that he wants to trade from Minnesota. But Thelan is now blaming all the hype surrounding the team on the media.
Starting point is 01:18:30 Oh, boy. I think the frustration is with you, is you guys. It's not us. We're not frustrated. We're going to work. I don't think, if you guys watched practice today, we were flying around, we were having fun, and we were making place. So I think that's a media thing more than frustration from us because, yeah, after a game, things like that, you're going to show frustration. But now we're worried about New York, and we're not frustrated at all.
Starting point is 01:18:53 I really like Minnesota this weekend. I think I'm telling you, it's going to be a complete mismatch. Minnesota's got way good players. Now, I do think a lot of this is nonsense. You can't tell me they weren't frustrated. Of course they were frustrated. And also, just so you know, no one's freaking out about Minnesota receivers not being able to link up with Kirk Cousins. Like the media is not drumming that up.
Starting point is 01:19:16 We've got a couple other stories on our plate. Creating controversy in Minnesota is not one of those things on our agenda today. I can assure you of that. The media is only reacting to what the Vikings receivers said. Nobody's walking around like, you know what? I bet you're Thielen and Stefan Diggs are very frustrated. Let's do a whole segment on that. Well, when Stefan Diggs started.
Starting point is 01:19:35 following Patriots on Instagram. Social media gives us lots of clues we didn't get years ago. Yeah, and also what Thielen said out of his mouth to reporters. This always drives me insane. It's like we created this story when you're the one that said it. This is how it works. If you're frustrated, you're frustrated. And believe me, people understand the frustration.
Starting point is 01:19:56 How could you not be frustrated? Nobody wants a dud. And the Kirk Crescent situation is frustrating to everyone, including us, because we don't want Kirk Cousins to be bad. It's not good for anybody. So Russell Wilson made quite the statement last night, as we discussed. Seahawks went over the Rams, 17 of 23, 268 yards, and four touchdowns. But even before this performance, he had a pretty solid place in the MVP race.
Starting point is 01:20:19 Here is where Wilson ranks in the NFL through the first four weeks. First and completion percentage, ninth in passing yards. Tied at eighth with touchdown passes, fifth yards per attempt, second and pass the rating, and tied for first with no interceptions. And this, you know, this is not a passing offense. As Greg Cosell tells us, this is a running offense. So when you look at those numbers and say, well, he's eighth and touchdown passes, well, he's got Doug Baldwin left.
Starting point is 01:20:52 He's got a blocking tight end Will Disley. He's got D.K. Metcalfe who dropped because people bailed on him in the draft. And a gadget guy, Kansas State Lockett, who he's made into a star. So it's, you know, if you look at Dak Prescott, all of Dak Prescott's, what he's surrounded by. In fact, my staff, I don't even know where I put this. My staff gave this to me. Dak Prescott is surrounded by nothing but first and second rounders. Jason Witten was a third rounder. It's remarkable. Seattle's got, you know, Dwayne Brown was a first rounder left tackle. There's a lot of third, fourth, seventh rounders. So what DAC is surrounded by and what
Starting point is 01:21:28 Russell Wilson surrounded by in that offense, that's two different levels of talent. Well, also, I think this Russell's just shining this year. Like you're really seeing and, you're really seeing. And, explosive play out of him and he's finally getting credit. For the longest time, we always felt like Russell Wilson wasn't in that conversation and he should have been and now he really is. Who do you have as Mb? I mean, obviously Mahomes' swap
Starting point is 01:21:49 is atop the conversation, but you got to have Russell in there, DAC. I think Aaron Rogers is in that conversation. If I had to vote MVP today, and I'm just voting MVP, I would give it to Russell Wilson. Just because of his, like last night, they would have lost that game
Starting point is 01:22:04 without Russell Wilson. Kansas City, I would say that second. I think Carson Wentz's way up there, actually. And their loss to the Saints is a respectable loss. I mean, we saw what happened to the Cowboys. Like, it's not like this week. Everyone thought the Saints were going to fall off without Drew Brees. It's not the case.
Starting point is 01:22:21 Finally, the Steelers got their first win last week, but Juju Smith's Schuster was not very involved. He only had three catches for 15 yards against the Bengals, and Mason Rudolph says he needs to get the ball to him more. You got to get the ball to your best players, and that's something you look forward to, every week in the game plan, but also just to get an emphasis on my end. They're in-game.
Starting point is 01:22:42 But, you know, Juja's a team player. And there's going to be games like that where maybe they might take him away or other guys have to step up and make plays. And they did Monday night. And that's the kind of group we have. Juju is going to be important to this game, but he did just tell reporters that he thinks he is questionable. Juju said that?
Starting point is 01:22:58 Yes. I like Baltimore. I didn't put it in my Blazing Five, but I like Baltimore. Didn't love the number, but I like Baltimore. Yeah, it's Ravens minus three and a half. I also like Baltimore this week. I want to go with the Steelers because that's my team. But after that loss of the rounds last week,
Starting point is 01:23:16 the Ravens are going to come in with a whole attitude. And while I like the win that Mason Rudolph got, that game plan is not going to work against the Ravens. And now with Juju being possibly questionable, the Ravens look like the way to go in this game. Yeah, enjoy with the news. Well, that's the news. And thanks for stopping by.
Starting point is 01:23:35 The Heard Lye News. reading a story in the Washington Post about Russell Wilson, and Jerry Brewer wrote it at the Washington Post. It said Russell's the best franchise quarterback currently in the NFL. He'll be 31 next month. So I would say if I just said to you, okay, next five years, so this will eliminate the Brady Breeze Rivers. I said, next five years, who's your guy? I would say, to me, there's two. It's Mahomes and Russell Wilson. Wentz Deshawn Watson and Carapelow, I think, are really talented, but I'm crossing my fingers on injuries. Golf, I think, is way better than people think, but I don't think he's special athletically. I do think he really needs a running game.
Starting point is 01:24:18 I think Aaron Rogers is older. I do think he doesn't win enough, and I think sometimes he's difficult to coach. Once Andrew Luck retired, because I would have made it Mahomes, Russell Wilson, and Andrew Luck. Once Andrew Luck retired, the next five years, if I had to pick two guys, it'd be my homes and Russell Wilson in no particular order. I mean, think about the ability for Russell Wilson to not get hit. Carson Wentz, a bigger, stronger athlete, has already missed 13 games. Russell Wilson's never missed one in eight years.
Starting point is 01:24:52 Like, that's a real thing. You know, Eli Manning didn't miss starts, but he also didn't run. I think Russell Wilson's ability to move, dart, not get hit. by the way, I think Baker will win games. Lamar will win games. I think Sam Darnal will win a bunch of games. But I just, I think there's sometimes there is a, there's a special.
Starting point is 01:25:14 And I think Mahomes and Russell Wilson, part of Russell's special is his self-awareness. He just doesn't get hit. It's a real thing. I was watching Lamar Jackson play a couple weeks ago. It was like the first series of the game. It may have been in Cleveland or Kansas City. It was Kansas City. He just got popped.
Starting point is 01:25:29 I'm like, I don't think I've seen Russell Wilson get hit like that. eight years. Last night was just magical, man. I'm watching these highlights on FS2. I mean, look at it. He just, you know, this is where the baseball thing helps him, because he's a great slider. And you've heard guys like Michael Vick, like I didn't know how to slide, Brady.
Starting point is 01:25:48 Russell Wilson, man, the slide thing, he should trademark that because he is, he just, he got Akeeb Talib to bite there, left his coverage. So much fun. Coming up next, listen, it is the Dallas Green Bay game. It's really interesting. The Cowboys are signing all these players early except DAC. That contract talk has just dried up. Why is that?
Starting point is 01:26:19 I'll give you a thought coming up. Be sure to catch live editions of the herd weekdays in noon Eastern, 9 a.m. Pacific. Last night, a blown call changed a game. Sunday, it's a huge doubleheader on Fox, first Daniel Jones and the Giants.
Starting point is 01:30:02 host Kirk Cousins and the Vikings than an America's game of the week. It's an NFC showdown. Aaron Rogers and the Packers take on Dak and the Cowboys. Catch it all on Fox or the Fox Sports app. Check your local listings. Packers Cowboys is one of the Super 6 NFL Sunday matchups this week, the new free-to-play
Starting point is 01:30:18 game where you can win up to $250,000. Terry Bradshaw's money. Colin, give me a winner and a final score. Packers 2726. Aaron's played very well in that stadium. Dax's missing his left tackle. And frankly, last four games, Dax numbers have come down.
Starting point is 01:30:36 So I'm going to go with the Packers by one. There you go. You know, I was thinking about this. Russell Wilson, Tom Brady, Patrick Mahomes. So Mahomes is the big talent. Russell Wilson now has talked about to win MVP and Brady. All three considered playing baseball. And we're in this time now.
Starting point is 01:30:53 I see this with parents. And it's just like we're trying to get our kids specialized. Like they're only going to play basketball. They're only going to play hockey. And the three best quarterbacks in the NFL right now, they wanted to play baseball. They played baseball very, very well, considered playing baseball, multiple sports. I just saw a study the other day. Urban Meyer talked about this yesterday.
Starting point is 01:31:13 When Urban used to recruit to Florida, he liked athletes that had played other sports. He liked guys, football players who had played basketball. Sam Darnel played some basketball. Love his family, a big baseball family. It's good for your body. You don't have the burnout. But I just think, you know, the way parents look. at it now is my kid to be great. You know, you read a book, 10,000 hours, sit on the ice all day,
Starting point is 01:31:38 and kids get burnt out. They get hurt, repetition, body movement. You know, they fall apart. 16-year-old's body is not meant to do the same thing repetitively over and over. And you just see people that are just, their arms give out in baseball, their knees give out in other sport. So, yeah, Russell Wilson, Patrick Mahomes, and Tom Brady should be noted. Kyler Murray considered strongly baseball. But Brady, Brady. was a better baseball player than a football player for a long time early. Well, there's a lot of cross-training elements to it, not just for your body. I think mentally also, like Urban was talking about, like loving competition and learning what
Starting point is 01:32:14 it takes to win on different levels and different areas is important, too, because we know that sports is honestly more mental than it is physical. So being able to play different sports and know what your body requires to be great at multiple things is only going to help you. I understand the, you know, specializing and finding what you are great at. But I'm with you. Like we always played multiple sports growing up. I played four.
Starting point is 01:32:36 Baseball players generally are just baseball players because you have to kind of get into baseball at like eight years old, youth league. So you play only baseball. I've met a lot of baseball players in my life. I don't find them to be that interesting of people. I love football players because football players had to go to college, have classes with international students.
Starting point is 01:32:57 Most football players I know played basketball or loved basketball. I always feel like. football players always get this dumb jock label, but I find them to be fascinating, verbal. They played multiple sports. They had to go to college for four years. So they had to take classes they didn't like with a bunch of different students, international students. And in baseball, it's like you play baseball at eight, travel baseball, that's all you play. You hang around baseball players. And I find it sometimes too insular for me. And I just like to see athletes that do other things. And because we all know Michael Jordan loved baseball and
Starting point is 01:33:31 Randy Mosslove basketball and Roy Jones want to be a basketball player. And I miss that when kids did more than one thing. By the way, NHL opening week continues. Discover card key matchup. Go further than ever. Discover at Miles card. Go to discover.com slash travel. Limitations to apply.
Starting point is 01:33:48 They automatically match the miles you earn your first year and match them. 35,000 can become 70,000 miles. So, Dak and the Cowboys host the Green Bay Packers. I like Green Bay in that game. By the way, DAC has beaten O'N2 Eli Manning, Owen 4K's Keenham, and O'N2, Josh Rosen. He hasn't beaten a quarterback that's won actually a game. And it's interesting.
Starting point is 01:34:10 Jeff Schwartz talked about this yesterday. So the Cowboys have paid everybody early, right? They paid Zeke two years early, Jalen Smith the year early, DeMarcus Lawrence early. And they're not talking about signing DAC. And Jeff Schwartz thinks maybe the Cowboys Brass, which knows personnel, they draft very well in Dallas. In fact, I'd argue they draft better than New England.
Starting point is 01:34:31 England, the Cowboys draft better than New England. New England's got a better coach and a quarterback, but Dallas drafts better. Those three days of the NFL draft, Dallas is better than New England. I think it's actually New England's very average at drafting. And they know personnel and they know young personnel. And Jeff Schwartz says maybe Dallas knows why they're waiting to sign tack to a huge deal. The Cowboys not signing him right now, I think is the best sign of that. Because they could have done something last year, this year.
Starting point is 01:34:58 They could have locked him up for the future, right? And you would do that if the guy's a Pat Mahomes, right? I mean, you would Carson Wentz, like they paid these guys as soon as they can. The Cowboys have refused to pay him. Refused to pay him. They paid the running back when analytics shows us that that is not the smart thing to do. You want to pay the quarterback and the wide receiver first. They didn't do it, right?
Starting point is 01:35:19 So I think that shows you from their angle. They don't think he might be the guy. Well, and here's the thing, too. You know, Jerry watches every practice. And Tyron Smith's first rounder, Connor Williams' offensive line, second rounder. Travis Frederick Center first rounder, Zach Martin first rounder, Amari Cooper first rounder,
Starting point is 01:35:36 Randall Cobb's second rounder, Ezekiel Elliott first rounder, Alail Collins was a first round talent dropped because of off-field issues. Zach is surrounded by first and second round talent. And as Jerry's saying, I'll pay those guys early. Some of this, he just wants to see Dak play more and more and more
Starting point is 01:35:55 because he's rolling the dice on, you know, Dak can win games, but I mean, why wouldn't Jerry sign him? him before everybody. First of all, quarterback's more important than running back. And Kansas City is going to sign Mahomes before they are running backs. Philadelphia signed Wendz. Seattle, by the way, signed Russell Wilson
Starting point is 01:36:11 the minute he thought he was dissatisfied. Dallas signed everybody but, but they signed guys that were higher draft picks, higher round guys considered better talents. And through four games this year, Dak, his passing touchdowns have gone down every game from four to three to two
Starting point is 01:36:27 to zero. His yards have gone down every day from 400 to 270 240, 220, and his passer rating has gone down for a straight games from 158 to 123 to 91 to 73. So passing yards, passing touchdowns, and passer ratings have gone down every week.
Starting point is 01:36:42 Is that because everybody now, Joy, has film on Kellyn Moore. Every week, we get a little film on Callan and the tricks, and it's interesting. I don't know. I like Green Bay in this game, but it is interesting. Dallas has been very good with their money. They've been very good drafting, and they're waiting
Starting point is 01:36:58 on deck. Now, maybe they'll pop it after this weekend. be a big contract. And I do think they're going to sign him. But Jerry's all about leverage. And I think with Zeke, he didn't feel he had a ton of leverage because Zeke wasn't going to come and Zeke was in Mexico. And I thought he, I think he felt, I mean, maybe signing Zeke was a sign that Jerry has apprehensions about Dak. Like, I can't have, I got to get him in here. This kid, I got to get in here. So, and I do think Jerry's going to sign Dak. And I do think Dak's a franchise quarterback. But again, if you're waiting for jaw dropping, you're not going to get it. Yet that's not what he is.
Starting point is 01:37:31 And, you know, the difference between good and great is great is eight years. People are trying to figure out Russell Wilson. Eight years. Eight years of film on Russell Wilson. And this is his best year. Last night may have been his greatest night. Wade Phillips, 70 years old. But in this league for 30 years.
Starting point is 01:37:49 He's played Russell Wilson 12 times. He's got Aaron Donald. He's got Marcus Peters. He's got to keep to leave. And he's got Eric Weddle. He's got Clay Matthews. Can't stop it. I mean, that's great.
Starting point is 01:38:00 Like Kobe Bryant's last game, 60. Like, with great is, oh, yeah, I got film, but I can't do anything about it. Because usually, kid comes in the leave, you get film, they go back, and then some just, that's the ceiling. And then the great one's Mahomes. It's like, you're not much I can do about that. That's why it's very difficult for me. I got to see like 15 starts. I was very cool on deck, even the 13 and 3 year.
Starting point is 01:38:23 I'm like, I don't know. O-line's great. Zeke's great. I don't know. And then last year we got Amari Cooper. And I'm like, all right, this works. He's a grown-up. He's good in front of the mic.
Starting point is 01:38:33 I can handle it. But it's fun. It'll be fun this Sunday to watch that. Guys out there, do not, please do not use your girlfriend shampoo. I know it's there. Don't use dove men plus care. I actually used it this morning. Create a range designed to give your hair the care at need.
Starting point is 01:38:50 Stay strong. Stay resilient. Available at Walmart. We'll have Drew Bledsoe joining us last hour. Jason McIntyre tomorrow's headlines today. Pretty good college football weekend. You get about seven good college football games a weekend. It looks like right now the best teams in college football primarily outside of Wisconsin,
Starting point is 01:39:11 primarily are SEC teams and Big 12 teams. So I got a lot of Auburns and Georgia's and Clemson. Oh, I guess you're right, Ohio State. So Urban said it yesterday. I don't think the middle and the bottom of the Big Ten is very good. But I think Wisconsin's real and Ohio State's real. And then I think it's your Oklahoma's Georgia, Bama, Clemson. LSU, Auburn.
Starting point is 01:39:30 Very similar. It kind of feels like that's what we get. But I do think Wisconsin's for real. This is not your typical win. A couple big 10 games. I think Wisconsin's defense, that's as good a defense as I've ever seen in Badgerland. That's as good as I've ever seen.
Starting point is 01:39:45 All right. Final hour coming up, Drew Bledsoe around the corner. It's the herd. One more herd? The herd streams 24 hours a day, seven days a week within the IHeart radio app. Search Herd to listen live or on demand whenever you'd like. Don't borrow your girlfriend shampoo.
Starting point is 01:39:59 your own dove men plus care available at walmark strong more resilient the kind of shampoo your hair needs drew bledzo was a number one pick back in 1993 of the new england patriots he was a super bowl champ played a decade and a half and a four-time pro boulder he's also done some high school coaching he's got a very successful winery business up in washington state and uh i want to bring him in here you know it's funny drew i was talking to brock Heard earlier. And he was talking about all these young quarterbacks. And he says, you know, when I was in high school, I started 20 games.
Starting point is 01:40:36 He goes, Trevor Lawrence started 50. He goes, now the seven-on-seven camps. I'm watching, Drew, I'm watching all these young quarterbacks. And they just look better earlier than they've ever looked my entire life. These sophomores in college now. They look like NFL guys. How many games did you start in high school, Drew? In high school, I started one of my sophomore year.
Starting point is 01:40:59 got hurt and then nine and then 10. So what's that, 21 games in high school? Yeah, guys are starting 50. Did you go to, did you have a lot of seven on seven summer camps or did you play other sports? No, I played other sports, but we did a little seven on seven. My dad ran a football camp in Washington, so we'd go to that every summer, and then we do seven on seven like probably four times over the course of the summer. So I did a little bit of it, but certainly nothing like what these guys are doing now.
Starting point is 01:41:27 And, you know, when you see these young guys come in and they're so well prepared, what it's really about in playing quarterback is it's about the number of reps you get. It's about the number of times you get to see a particular picture so you know where to throw the ball and when to throw it. And the more reps you get, you know, if you get enough reps, you can sort of see the future. You can see where a guy is going to be and predict where he's going to be. If you don't have enough reps, you can't do that. And so that's why these guys are so much more game ready when they get to college and then on into the NFL.
Starting point is 01:41:56 Well, they just have a lot more reps now than they ever do before. Yeah, and that's why so few are missing 19 of the last 20 first round quarterbacks. Paxton Lynch, the exception of all hit. By the way, Jared Goff lost last night. I like him. Do you like him? Yeah, I like his game a lot. I know you've talked to the past few days just about the fact that the Rams did have to give up a couple offensive linemen in order to sign the guys that they signed.
Starting point is 01:42:20 So he's not getting the same protection he got maybe a year ago. But I really like his game. very, very accurate. He's obviously got great weapons around him, but I really like what he's doing. And he's obviously got a brilliant young mine, column plays for him. And that obviously helps out quite a bit. By the way, Gardner Minshu went to Washington State, and it's interesting because Washington State doesn't even get the most publicity in their own state. They're kind of like an Auburn, New Alabama. Washington gets a lot more press. It's in Seattle. They're on TV more. did you see Gardner Minshu being this good this quick? It's pretty funny.
Starting point is 01:43:00 Gardner is one of those guys, and I know you've come across people like this in your own business and your own life. You know, when I met him, he's one of those guys when you meet him. You immediately know this guy's going to be successful at something, right? And, you know, I mean, and I acquitted when Tom Brady came into the rookie, you know, I'm on record. I think everybody's on record, did not see this level of serious. success. I didn't see him going down as one of the greatest of all time. But I knew he was going to be successful in life. He just kind of had that aura about him. And Gardner was that way. When I met him, it was like, okay, if I could buy futures in a kid, I'd buy futures in Gardner Minshu. I wouldn't
Starting point is 01:43:39 predict whether that was going to be football. And I wouldn't have seen this level of success coming for him. But I knew he's going to be successful in life. But man, the way he's playing right now, it's electric. If I could grow a mustache, I would call him. I just, I just, I just, just can't grow one. It looks awful if I try. Yeah, no, he's got a little he's got a little Baker Mayfield. He's got good feet. He's accurate. He's got a good little attitude. He's
Starting point is 01:44:02 and he just bounces around the pocketwell. I'm watching some college footage. He's just very, very comfortable moving around. He's very comfortable. He's accurate when you give him a little space. And again, he's not a fast guy, but he's got really nice feet, moves his pocket well, sees the field.
Starting point is 01:44:19 So these stories are great, these young quarterback succeeding. By the way, the one team that you don't want to be a young quarterback against is the New England Patriots. And their defense has always been good. This year, it's really special. Is there a secret sauce you know about or here? Because you're still connected to the organization. You don't even not want to be a young quarterback against the Patriots. You don't want to be an old quarterback. I went to the home opener against the Steelers. And I watched Ben Rosasberger, who's as good as anybody has been for the last 12, 15 years. And I'm looking down,
Starting point is 01:44:54 from up above, and there's nobody open. I mean, they're playing tight man coverage. There is nobody open in that secondary. And I think you'd share the same opinion that I do. There's no superstars. There's no, they just play really, really good team defense. Their secondary is special. You know, Belichick is more involved.
Starting point is 01:45:17 But one of the guys that's really interesting, Colin, that's helping them out on the defensive side is Gerard Mayo, their linebacker. I can spend some time with it. and we went to Israel with Mr. Kraft. I got to spend a lot of time with Gerard. He's brilliant. And I didn't know him before that.
Starting point is 01:45:31 So here's the guy. This is interesting. I think you'll like this little tidbit. When Gerard Mayo was in high school, his hobby, he was a white hat hacker. And what that means? So he's a computer hacker, right? But instead of breaking into trying to steal stuff, he would break into companies' systems, and then he would report to them where their weak spots were in their computer system.
Starting point is 01:45:53 That was his hobby in high school. He's an amazing athlete, amazing linebacker, but he's a closet nerd. And he is, but he's helping out with that defense. I think if he chooses this to be, I think you could keep Rod Mayo becoming a guy that's a head coach in the NFL before too long. God, that's a great story. How about that? A do-gooder. We need more of those in society.
Starting point is 01:46:16 Yeah, no doubt. I'm watching Russell. Russell Wilson is the opposite of you. Russell Wilson, they've questioned his height. They've questioned, you know, you know, you. You came out number one pick, big tall, statue-ass pocket guy. He's a run-around guy. But I was saying I went and saw a magician in Vegas a couple of weeks ago,
Starting point is 01:46:34 Matt Franco at the link, and he started doing magic at six. He's now 31. 25 years. It was the most amazing thing I'd ever seen. The kid, he was so comfortable with cards in his hands that he could do anything with him. I'd never seen any magician like this. And when I watched Russell Wilson, people told him he was two-sumptu. small in high school, too small in college, too small in the NFL. So he's had to basically create
Starting point is 01:47:00 this style. And I go back and look at his high school video and his college video. He's been the same quarterback from Pete Carroll to his college coaches to Barry Alvarez. I don't even know how to classify him. I mean, what, Steve Young's the only thing I've seen like him. Do we call him a running quarterback? How do we describe him? Well, first of all, and full disclosure. I'm awful at fantasy football. It turns out there's no translation from playing football to playing fantasy, at least for me. But when he was a rookie and he was in the preseason, I watched him play in the preseason. And, you know, I think it was before Pete even named him the starter.
Starting point is 01:47:40 I was like, oh, I'm going to draft that kid. I'm like, what are you doing? You're drafting the Seahawks backup quarterback? Like, no, I watch this kid. He's going to be special. And he really has been and he continues to get better. But one of the amazing things about him is he moves around so much and makes plays with his feet. but he's always keeping his eyes downfield.
Starting point is 01:47:56 He's always looking to make the throw. He's not moving to run. He's actually sliding around to make a play with his arm. One of the things that bugs me sometimes is when I hear a guy called a dual threat quarterback, usually what that means is he can run, but he can't throw. Right. Russell is a guy that is a true, and you said Steve Young, and I think that is a good comparison for Russell.
Starting point is 01:48:19 And Steve, you hear him talk about it. He didn't become a Hall of Fame quarterback until he learned. learned to do that until he learned to move around and then deliver the ball early in his career. And he readily admits this. He was just kind of a runaround guy. But he became a precision passer later in his career. And that's why he's in the Pro Football Hall of Fame. And Russell is he's that guy.
Starting point is 01:48:39 The other thing that's amazing, he moves around so much. Do you ever recall seeing him get hit hard? Never, ever. Almost never gets hit hard. He's so elusive and he's able to protect himself. And that's why he's been able to be on the field all the time. You know, he came in the same year as RG3. and I remember watching RG3, he'd run around and he would get blown up.
Starting point is 01:48:56 Man, this kid's not going to last very long. He just said too hard. Yeah. I mean, you were 6'5, you got hit. You know the story. I mean, this league is brutal. I watched Lamar Jackson against Kansas City first drive get popped once. I'm like, okay, that's just not acceptable.
Starting point is 01:49:10 You can't, I mean, you're a big quarterback who got hit. We had a piece of video this week. Tom Brady getting blown up by Buffalo. I mean, Tom and you were 6'5, you're men. And Russell's a little guy. I think baseball actually helps him, Drew. He's great at sliding, seriously. It's a great...
Starting point is 01:49:26 Yeah, I think that's part of it. He really has a sense for how to protect himself and how to avoid getting the big hits. And plus, you know, he's one of those guys that's so easy to cheer for. He does everything right, just... And, you know, my kids are mostly grown now, but he's one of those guys that, you know, you can point to like, hey, do it like this guy that he's special.
Starting point is 01:49:48 Finally, Drew, Bledsoe, joining us. Drew, you had a huge arm. college high school pro. You had an elite A plus arm, top two or three when you played. Mahomes has that. Now, we always think great arm is an advantage, but there can be a burden to it. Joe Namath, Brett Favre, a lot of picks. Take me to your arm and the upside, the downside. Because when I see Patrick throw it like he does, the ball just, he just can spin it. It's just so pretty to watch. And there was no throws you couldn't make. But how did you manage your arm? because in high school, you know, college, maybe you didn't have to,
Starting point is 01:50:24 but sometimes I do feel the arm can be a little bit of a burden if it's too great. It can get you in trouble. You know, you feel like you can just make every throw, so you can just throw it right through somebody. And I had a game in college against the University of Montana, and we were far better than they were, came out, and I think I completed like my first 12 passes. So then I just figured, oh, well, I can just throw it anywhere. I ended up throwing five interceptions, because these little tiny lines. backers from the University of Montana because I was like, oh, no, I'm bulletproof, man.
Starting point is 01:50:53 I can't. There's no way they can make a play on this ball. So it can get you in trouble. But Mahomes, look, I don't tip my cap to very many guys when it comes to throw in the football. There are only a couple guys where I look at like, okay, that guy can really throw it. Aaron, Aaron Rogers is one of those guys. And then what Mahomes is doing, I think one thing that happens with people in your profession, and I don't want to lump you with everybody else, but in your profession, a lot of times there are these superlatives that are thrown around too much. Right. You know, the next guy, the next this, the next that.
Starting point is 01:51:25 And I think sometimes the truly great ones can get lost in the wash of all these superlatives. But what I'm watching with Mahomes, he's changing the game, and he's different than anybody else I've seen come into the league. I mean, the only guy that I would equate him to would maybe be Elway when he was young in terms of what he can do, throw on the football, and could do it on the move. if he can do it from the pocket and just makes every throw. And it looks really just, it's fun to watch, man. I still love watching good quarterbacks and watching my home for it. It's really fun. Yeah, helps to have Andy Reed, too.
Starting point is 01:51:56 Great play designer. Drew Bledsoe. How's the wine business? Oh, wine business is good, man. I'm out here in, I'm out in Boston right now. Actually, running around schlepping wine. I wish you hadn't sold your shops there in Connecticut, man. I'd swing back down there.
Starting point is 01:52:10 We sold a lot of wine those couple days, man. It was fun. Drew Bledsoe, good seeing. Hey, before I jump off, you want to hear the, most amazing stat I've heard maybe in a year. Since Chip Kelly, and this is painful for me because it happened to my Washington State Cougars, since Chip Kelly has been at UCLA, the Bruins are two and four in games where they've been behind by 30 points. They've won two out of six games and they were behind by 30.
Starting point is 01:52:41 Guess what the rest of the NC2A is in that span of time in games where a team was behind. by 30. What? They're zero and 440. So they came back? And the other 440 times teams have been down by 30 points they've lost, and Chip Kelly somehow has brought his team back from 30 points down twice in the six times they've been down by that much.
Starting point is 01:53:04 Well, they beat your Cougars that way. It was a weird game. They did. It was just humiliating. I hated it. Yeah, I get that. The game was over. The game was over like four different times.
Starting point is 01:53:13 They shouldn't even. And I was actually at the local watering home. watching with my buddies. And if that started to happen, I just, I had to leave. And then as I'm driving home, all of a sudden, my phone started blowing up because that's when they returned the kick, and then they came back and frigate beat us. I couldn't believe that. We're up by 32 points in the middle of third quarter. No way that should ever happen. No, they should not even count that. It's just outrageous. Yeah, let's, let's start a petition to just eliminate that one from the record. Give us a win. Drew Bletsoe, so good talking to you,
Starting point is 01:53:40 buddy. Thanks, Colin. You bet. Good stuff. Yeah, that game. Isn't that crazy? You can hear the pain in his voice talking about it. You know, I would rather, I would rather, like when I bet football games, I'd rather just be on the wrong side. Like I knew Baltimore Cleveland, I'm like, oh, Baltimore is really flat and Cleveland's defensive line is winning every snap. I picked the wrong side. Cleveland's pushing Baltimore around at the line of scrimmage, and you could tell it instantly, you're like, oh, this is not going to work. I don't have a problem losing. When your team's winning all night and all of a sudden you wake up and the other team gets a backdoor,
Starting point is 01:54:15 fluky T-D or something, you're like, they call that a bad beat. Those are brutal. Yeah, that was a brutal loss. You'd rather just get thumped and be like, yeah, bad game playing. Yeah, it was just wrong. Just forget about it, get on the plane and fly home. Joy with the news. No, no, no, no, no.
Starting point is 01:54:32 Turn on the news. This is the herd line news. So Adam Gates announced that Sam Darnel is officially out this Sunday against the Eagles. Darnel was hoping to come back this week, but tests showed that his spleen is still enlarged and he could not be cleared to play. and this morning, Adam Gay spoke about Donald's disappointment about not being able to play this week.
Starting point is 01:54:51 I felt bad, like, when we told him, I mean, of course, the first thing he says is, you know, I feel like I'm letting other guys down. You know, I mean, it's not about him. And he tried to do everything he could. He did everything he was asked to do. He did everything the doctors told him to do. It just didn't work out for him.
Starting point is 01:55:14 I mean, it just sucks for the Jets. It's just a last season, but you can't rush Sam Donald back in the spot. Like, this is not something that you want to play through. She says his quote this week. He's like, I just don't want to die. I was like, one of the quotes was like, I just, you know, I just all play. But, you know, dying can't be the, yeah, he goes, I'm not willing to risk my life. It's like, okay, let's let's just.
Starting point is 01:55:35 And why? What's the point? Like I said, the season is lost. Like, you expected to take a step forward this year? It's an unfortunate happening. Here's the upside. they desperately need next year is a great year for wide receivers they desperately need a wide receiver the first round's going to have like three and they can go get that Alabama receiver and solve their primary offensive issue you know the good the good thing about the Jets they've been very good with their first pick in the draft they're going to have another top seven pick and and they don't need a quarterback and everybody else does up there so they're going to end up getting a star player they've been good at drafting and so I actually like a lot of their players. So they have seven guys, I think, are elite players. No, they have a lot of talent. And
Starting point is 01:56:19 there wasn't a tremendous amount of pressure on them this year. You just wanted to see their offense take a step forward, really. And there's no, everyone knows what the situation is. So no one's judging Adam Gates or the Jets based off the situation, you know what it is. And nobody wants to see him go out there with an enlarged spleen. You can't get hit in the midsection or could burst. Like, okay, you cannot be out there. No one, no one is wanting to see that. So Patrick Holmes, just talking about him, is known for making highlight. plays and last Sunday he had another one. He looked back at the ref before taking off on a long run, caught a lot of attention on social media, and he was asked about his thought process on that play.
Starting point is 01:56:54 I looked back to see if there was a penalty, and I saw that I had the room to run, and I could probably get the first down, but I didn't want to run like 50 yards if I was going to be called back and have to run another play. When I looked back on it, I was like, man, I don't know why I did that, but in the moment, I just kind of thought about it, and I looked back and saw there was no flags, I took off. smart play everybody can't do this but a lot of things that Patrick Mahomes does
Starting point is 01:57:17 that everybody else can't do obviously if they had lost the game and this had turned out a little differently he would be getting scrutinized for it but that's not what happened so I don't really like playing that game of like well you know it could have cost to my yard
Starting point is 01:57:28 and it could cost them the game like it didn't so it actually is a smart play everyone doesn't have the ability to do that he's just that talented and sees the field like that to even think to look at the raft to think he might have thrown a flag and I can save myself some manner energy is smart. I don't think it's taunting. I think he's just aware.
Starting point is 01:57:44 Yes, exactly. I don't have a problem with it at all. And if you don't like it, you can always, you have the option of stopping him. Yeah. Yeah. Finally, the Cowboys offensive line caught a break. Lyle Collins is not practiced this week, but he is supposed to return to the team today and is expected to play. Tyron Smith is still out with an ankle injury and not expected to play. But Cam Fleming will start in place of Ty Smith. He started three games last year in place of him and they got three wins, Redskins, Saints, and at the Giants. they do have some injuries on the offensive line, obviously, but Green Bay is likely going to be without Devonte Adams.
Starting point is 01:58:18 So it kind of evens out. I'm excited for this game. Obviously, this is one of the huge games this weekend. But the excuses of Devante Adams being out are completely balanced by what's going on with the Dallas Offensive Line. This is a really interesting game for both teams. Dak has to perform. He's had four. We showed the numbers earlier.
Starting point is 01:58:36 Dax had four straight games, his touchdowns, his passing yards, his quarterback rating have all gone down. four straight week. So it's not like he played, you know, bad team, great team, bad team. Right. There we have him right there. Like it's, it's. Yeah, that should not be the case based off of the teams that they played with the exception of the Saints. And by the way, they haven't had any offensive line issues. They haven't had injury issues outside of Amari Cooper in those games. So we'll see. I think Green Bay's defense was humiliated on national TV against Philadelphia. I think they'll play really, really well. I just want to see Zee going. Yeah. Got to get him. Eat Zeeke. Yeah. Joy with the news.
Starting point is 01:59:09 Well, that's the news. And thanks for stopping by. The Herd Lye News. One of my favorite segments of the week, tomorrow's headlines today with Jason McIntyre here on a Friday. Be sure to catch live editions of The Herd weekdays in noon Eastern 9 a.m. Pacific. So many good NFL games. The 1 o'clock window, that's all my blazing five picks. I'll know by like, I'll know by 1230, our time Sunday, whether I'm a winner or a loser.
Starting point is 01:59:36 Ruin my day or make it. Great Sunday of football. Oh, I mean, they're all. all great. How was last night? Phenomenal game. Everybody's bailing on Gough. I thought he was great in the last. If Everett doesn't have that pass go through his hands, if the kicker makes
Starting point is 01:59:49 a field goal, the whole narrative changes. Isn't it weird like how that happens? It's like Jared Gough was, yeah, one play changes so many things. There's things I don't like about the Rams. You know, they have a third of their running yards. They had 80 rushing yards. A third came on an end-round or a receiver. They have no running game. By the way, Taleb and Peters
Starting point is 02:00:05 looked awful at corner yet. Why aren't they trading for Jalen Ramsey? Pete, I would bail on Peters. Andy Reed is tolerant. He bailed on it. And he's like, I'm out. Chris Peters isn't Washington. Yes.
Starting point is 02:00:16 Best player. Kicked off the team, right? I'm out. I think Marcus, I had an NFL executive tell me he interviewed Marcus Peters before the draft. So it was the worst interview he ever had with a player. So, I mean, and Marcus Peters last night, second week in a row, I mean, is eight, 10 yards. And Talib got torched by a running back. Yes.
Starting point is 02:00:37 Rashad Penny out of the backfield. and he gave up the touchdown there at the end to the Carson on the reception. It's a bad game for the corners. Tomorrow's headlines today, Jason McIntyre. All right, let's start with this. Will Daniel Jones remain undefeated against the Vikings tomorrow's headlines today? Kind of love this game, Colin. One of my favorite games on the board, I think the headline Monday will be Danny Dimes, not this time.
Starting point is 02:01:01 I like the Vikings big. I mean, listen, Mike Zimmer and the Vikings, the sky is falling, right? The narrative out there, Stefan Diggins. he wants out. Adam Thieland's trashing his quarterback. Kirk Cousin stinks. Anytime the narrative out there on these TV shows, radio, internet, selling something, give me the buy.
Starting point is 02:01:18 The Warren Buffett line, right? When everybody's fearful, that's when you want to jump in. I like the Vikings this week. And Mike Zimmer, the numbers are staggering off a loss on the road in a non-divisional game. He's 39-15 and won against the spread. So earlier this week, I took
Starting point is 02:01:34 a piece of paper and I wrote, and this is one of they do sometimes. I took the 10 best players in this game. Nine are Vikings. This is a... Who's the giant who's on there? Because Akewan ain't playing. No, I have there. No, Evan Ingram. It was a left guard for, I think the Giants' offensive, there's an offensive line that I put down
Starting point is 02:01:50 for the Giants. They have good guards. But it's a mismatch of talent. This should be the Vikings in a runaway. All right. Tomorrow's headlines today. Falcons Texans game. What say you? Not a sexy game. Not at all. Not a lot of people are going to be watching this, but it is interesting from this perspective.
Starting point is 02:02:08 The headline will be Can't win with Quinn. I do believe if they lose this game, Dan Quinn will be fired on Monday. It is like DefCon 1 in Atlanta right now. Colin, this is crazy. They went to the Super Bowl in 2017. They returned almost,
Starting point is 02:02:24 I believe the number is 11 starters from that team. Julio Jones, Freeman, Matt Ryan, even defensively. A lot of guys still there. And they're a disaster. And the only blame can go on, Dan Quinn. This is basically a kitchen sink game for him. with the Atlanta Falcons. Well, he brought the Pete Carroll's sort of high-energy mantra,
Starting point is 02:02:42 but I was talking to somebody inside the league about this, and they knew Dan. And they said, he brought a lot of the Pete Carroll stuff, but he's not Pete authentically. He doesn't have Pete's kind of personality. So I think he tries to sell some of that Pete stuff to the players, and maybe they're not buying it because they have been a huge disappointment. And there is something to psychologically not getting over that barrier of being up 283 in the Super Bowl against Belichick, and you just collapse. I mean, they, I don't think they've won a playoff game. They might have beat the Rams in one playoff game,
Starting point is 02:03:11 but they've been awful all around. And this year, it feels like it's all coming to a head for Atlanta. Tomorrow's headlines today. Patriots Redskins game looks lopsided. Yeah, well, the Patriots haven't covered two weeks in a row. I know. Nobody's really into them. They're injured.
Starting point is 02:03:26 Their wide receiver core is kind of a mess. Banged up, Gordon and Edelman, the headline Monday will be the Washington Dredskins. Listen, if not for the Miami Dolphins and their historic futility, I think people would be talking about how bad these Redskins are. Like, if you look at the numbers, they went against a Giants defense that's ranked 20th in the league, and they couldn't get 200 yards last week. They just announced Colt McCoy is the new quarterback, as if that's going to inspire any confidence.
Starting point is 02:03:52 Haskins is, I believe, third on the depth chart, the rookie who they thrust in desperately last week. This is a really bad team. You know, Jay Gruden, I don't want to be a guy who fires coaches. I just talked about Dan Quinn, but Jay Gruden's in deep trouble. Jay Gruden is the rare coach that is in a top. Titanic scenario that I would hire. I actually think I would hire. He's an offensive guy.
Starting point is 02:04:13 Yeah, and the other thing, like Todd Bowles didn't work for the Jets. He has taken a bunch of guys with Tampa. Tampa's defense is at least feisty. There's some guys, I would want Jay Gruden in my coaching room. I want Todd Bowles on my coaching staff. I don't know if Jay's a head guy, maybe, maybe not. But he's found a, he's been very interesting developing coaches and developing players. I think there's something to that.
Starting point is 02:04:38 Is somebody a head coach or are they a coordinator? That's right. Bulls great as a coordinator at Tampa. As a head coach with the Jets, tough to lead a locker room with his personality. Maybe Gruden is better as an offensive coordinator. I think he's got room in the league. I just think that Dan Snyder in that organization is not great.
Starting point is 02:04:53 How about this? Patriots, 41 to 6. I'll go with the Patriots in a real bloodbath in D.C. Okay. Khalil Mack Bears faces the Raiders his former team tomorrow's headline today. Yeah, well, John Gruden's now backtracking. Oh, I didn't want to trade Khalil Matt. I don't know if you saw that quote yesterday. It's too bad.
Starting point is 02:05:10 The headline will be, baby come Mac. The classic, I believe it's a 70s song. I like to put in some music to my singing headlines here. Khalil Mack, of course, very fired up. He's been talking now for three days. I can't wait to play this game. Revenge, I'm coming after. Like, he's angry.
Starting point is 02:05:29 He's fired up. I think this is a real bad spot for the Raiders who come in a little excited, right? You had them last week against a close. They were one of my strongest picks last week, Because I think offensively, when they face average defenses, John Gruden's a great scriptwriter, and they're very good early in games. Carr gets rid of the ball quickly. But the key you said there is mediocre to bad defenses.
Starting point is 02:05:51 This bear's defense is nasty. And Wilkwan Smith is back. He had the weird personal issue last week. They don't know about Akeem Hicks, the defensive lineman. I just think these guys eat up the Raiders here. Listen, Khalil Mack, since he was traded, has 17 sacks. since the Raiders traded him, they have 18. I know.
Starting point is 02:06:09 Kaleel Mack, it's just a monster tied for the league lead with force fumbles with four. I just love watching this guy play. If you don't double him, like Aaron Donald last night in that game, he was just dominating Seattle in the first half. Then they double him to slow him down a bit. If you don't double Mac, he's going to go nuts on car. This will be a lot of these London games are a drag.
Starting point is 02:06:27 This will be a fun London game. Like this is, and they're putting it at one o'clock, so I don't have to get up Sunday morning. I kind of like that early Sunday. I don't because then nobody watches Fox NFL kickoff, That's a great show. Very talented people on that show. Love that crew. All right, tomorrow's headlines today.
Starting point is 02:06:41 Packers face the Cowboys, America's Game of the Week on Fox. What's the headline? Now, you love this game. We were talking before this segment. You're really in on this. Devante Adams, Joy just said, I asked Joy, Devante is not necessary. He's still unlikely to play.
Starting point is 02:06:56 Unlikely. Yeah, there's still not an unofficial ruling, but he's unlikely. We've got to see the injury report later today. I think either way, Devante Adams plays or does. The headline will be New Sheriff in town. We've got a great photo of Aaron Rogers here. Listen, the great
Starting point is 02:07:14 research team here has pulled some numbers, okay? Aaron Rogers not only owns the Cowboys, Colin. He is unbelievable in AT&T Stadium. It's like a home away from home. It includes a Super Bowl. But he's just been phenomenal against Dallas. I don't buy this
Starting point is 02:07:30 Dallas defense, which couldn't get stops against Teddy Bridgewater last week. Alvin Camaro, they don't tackle well. and that Dallas offensive line, okay? Tyron Smith out, and Lylel Collins is questionable. He's missed some practice. So both your tackles against a Packers defense that is kind of filthy, the pass rush,
Starting point is 02:07:48 I kind of am leaning your way. I'm looking at the Packers here. But is Aaron Rogers becoming Johnny Depp, where you keep telling me how talented he is, but I don't go to any of his movies. Do you know that Aaron Rogers' career on the road? One game under 500. Last three years,
Starting point is 02:08:03 Marcus Marriota has a better winning percentage. He's got to win more games. Last year he's 1 and 7 on the road. Aaron, he, I'm tired of hearing. I'm tired of hearing about his talent. Get me to a theater or win football games. He doesn't win enough games. So are you blaming him for last Thursday's loss?
Starting point is 02:08:22 Okay, we blame Marioita for everything. So you can say, well, Aaron's been hurt. So is Mario da. Well, Aaron didn't have great coaching. Do we know if Grable's a great coach? Well, Aaron's defense. Is Carolina's defense great? Like, I'm overhearing about it.
Starting point is 02:08:33 But I think we all say this is a big game for Dak. You know what? It's a big game for Aaron Rogers. Aaron's got to win these games. Yeah, he had 400 yards. When you walk into a game with a decided quarterback advantage in this league, you win that game. The Saints are winning games against good teams with a backup. Yeah.
Starting point is 02:08:53 Well, their defense showed up. When you can't stop the run as they couldn't last week, you're going to get trucked. I mean, they let the kids Sanders and Howard rush for like a buck 60. if they let Ezekiel Elliott do that with Dallas and they control the clock, I don't think Aaron Rogers will have a chance. I'm shocked here. Do you like Gardner Minshu? Would you buy it? I'm in on his story. He's an underdog. I consider myself a career underdog.
Starting point is 02:09:17 Minshu is the ultimate underdog, right? Two years ago, nobody thought this guy was an NFL class. Watch his video. There is a lot of Baker Mayfield in it. Watch his feet, watch his throwing motion. Just watch his video. There's a little bit of, Ian Book, Notre Dame quarterback. Watch his video.
Starting point is 02:09:34 There's a lot of Baker Mayfield with Ian Book and a lot with Gardner Minshue. MDrive4Mend.com. Code is heard, 20% off. MDrive4Mend.com. Use it every day. Get strong, get lean. Last night, a blown call changed a game.
