We're in the middle of a game.
This linebacker, this linebacker walks up to me.
He goes, hey, ref, my mom wants you to wave at her.
What?
Time out.
Quarterback on office blue with 42.
Hey, Rhett, my mama want you to weigh better.
What?
Hey, Miss Parker.

That's how personal it got.
Wow.

This was just playoffs.
This was just basketball.

Iheart Radio, Fox Sports Radio, and right here on FS1, Joy Taylor is joining me one hour from now,
my Blazing 5, reduced to Blazing 1. I'll make my Super Bowl pick. Lay it out for you.
Joy, how are you?
Great. exciting day.
There is a lot going on.
There is a lot of NBA stuff.
There's a lot of NFL stuff.
We'll go back and forth today on this.
I want to start here, though, before I get to the NBA stuff,
and I've got a lot of NBA stuff to talk about today.
On the phone, texting, talking last 24 hours.
Let me start with this, though.
Sean McVey is 33 years old.
That is half the age of Bill Belichick, who's 66.
He is the hot new boy genius.
and he has earned all of it.
He is sharp. He is fun.
He is smart. He is relatable.
And when you put the resumes next to Bill Belichick,
oh, wait a minute.
They're not close.
I mean, not really even close.
Sean McVeigh has two wins that anybody in this league historically would care about.
He beat the Cowboys off a buy at home, got a few calls,
and he beat the Saints on the road,
and got a big call.
Now, I do think the Rams are better than both of those teams,
but that's it.
Two wins.
That's it.
We love in the NFL to anoint the next dynasty.
Anybody's seen Philadelphia this week?
Anybody's seen the Eagles?
I can't.
I can't.
There are nowhere to be found.
That's because what happened to Philadelphia is what happens to virtually everybody
not named the Patriots.
I want to remind you something about the last.
Los Angeles Rams.
They are in a division that's really good in getting better.
San Francisco.
Kyle Shanahan, Jimmy Garoppolo, Seattle, Pete Carroll, Russell Wilson.
They've already locked in three of their stars, Big Boy Money, Aaron Donald, Todd Gurley,
and Brandon Cooks.
And oh, by the way, Gurley showing signs of wear and tear.
They're going to eventually pretty soon here have to pay.
Jared Goff, a lot of money will limit who they can sign.
And, oh, by the way, their offensive line is old and getting really old fast.
And I want to remind you of the four franchises, we were absolutely sure that we're going to take over this league.
The St. Louis Rams and Kurt Warner fastest show on turf.
and who ended their dynasty?
New England.
The Seattle Seahawks Russell, that defense, the Legion of Boom.
Who ended that dynasty?
The New England Patriots.
The Pittsburgh Steelers.
They're getting big bend, getting to Super Bowls,
and who has really ended that dynasty?
Haven't been there in seven years to the Super Bowl,
the New England Patriots.
and Peyton Manning was going to wreck this league.
Remember Colts?
You're going to go to like 10 Super Bowls.
Eight.
He won one Super Bowl in Indianapolis.
Why?
Four for four, the New England Patriots.
They are favored.
They are more experienced.
They are going to reload.
Brady played his best game in years against the Chargers.
They're probably most.
believe going to win Sunday, and it should be noted, they've got a big edge in this game.
The two wide receivers for the Rams, one's a former Patriot, and the Patriots' best corner
guarded the other one, Robert Woods, for four years in Buffalo.
We love to anoint the next dynasty.
Four of them have all ended due to Belichick and Brady.
All right, let's segue into this.
Oh, lordy, lordy, lordy.
Next Thursday is the NBA trading deadline.
And you and I know the NBA is changing these days.
Players have more power.
But it should be noted it's been a players league since I started watching it in
1972.
It was a players league then.
It really was.
Coaches didn't get fired as often, but they got fired.
Wilt didn't.
Jerry West didn't.
Elgin Baylor didn't.
Okay, it's always been a players league.
Well, yesterday.
Oh, today.
There's a lot of stuff freaking people out.
Anthony Davis has said,
I want to be a Laker and play with a great player.
Ooh, that's never happened before.
Oh, wait, it's happened a million times.
Porzinger's wasn't happy with the Knicks,
and so he went to very aggressive owner of the Dallas Mavericks Mark Cuban,
and now the Knicks have the availability for two stars in free agency.
That's bad.
Kyrie Irving said this morning,
I don't know anybody anything.
I don't owe the Celtics anything,
and people are freaking out because Kyrie Irving
doesn't owe the Celtics anything.
Charles Barkley was on TV last night.
He is beside himself.
Adam Seppard need to block that trade.
Why?
I don't like what the Lakers are doing.
I don't think it's right.
What the Lakers are doing?
Yes, I don't think what did they do?
We're collusion.
And you know it's collusion.
Let's tell you something.
Rich Paul got mad at me because I said a month ago.
Oh, the fix is in.
Anthony Davis going to the Lakers.
He didn't like me saying the fix was in.
The fix has been in.
I think Commissioner Stern, who I like a lot, he'd come out and says, hey, we can trade
Alton Davis, but he cannot go to the Lakers.
We cannot have players and agents colluding to the stack super team.
Well, time out.
Time out.
My entire life, and I've said this a hundred times,
agents and shoe companies and stars have controlled this league.
What's different now?
What's different is LeBron is friends with Rich Paul,
and the billionaires don't like it.
But folks, if you're in your 20s and 30s,
you don't know who David Falk is or Arn Tellem.
They ran this league for three decades.
David Falk was so powerful.
They called him the invisible hand in union negotiations.
The NBA had a lockout and then ended a lockout.
And David Stern and David Falk were controlling it.
He was an agent.
Arn Tellum had Shaq and had Kobe.
And David Falk had Michael Jordan and he had Iverson and he had Ewing.
And those two agents controlled the NBA for years along with Nike.
That's been the league forever.
What's different now?
What's different is LeBron is friends with.
Rich Paul.
Call me crazy, but wasn't David Falk one of Michael Jordan's guys?
Of course.
Wasn't Arndellum really close to Kobe may still be?
Yes.
That's an agent's job to be your friend.
I've got an agent.
We're good friends.
Why?
I trust him.
That's the same way Michael and Ewing and Iverson all felt about David Falk.
They were friends.
A lot of steaks, a lot of cigars, a lot of laughs, a lot of laughs,
a champagne together, private jets together, golf tournaments together.
So because LeBron's buddies with Rich Paul, everybody's worked up?
Anthony Davis to the Lakers.
Yeah, that's never happened.
A great player wants to leave his crappy team and go to LeBron in L.A.
Yeah, that's just crazy talk.
It's been happening for 50 years.
Wilt became a Laker and Shaq became a Laker.
Where did Shaq leave?
A small Southern franchise.
Kareem left Milwaukee, a small Midwest franchise.
Come on.
Nothing crazy here.
We had a bunch of player movement yesterday.
It was all good.
Dallas rolled the dice on Porzingas.
He's seven foot three and a half, a slasher.
He is brittle.
He's coming off a nasty injury.
I don't know if I want to pay him max money.
I kind of like what the Knicks have,
but I haven't liked what the Knicks have done for 10 years.
That was the first time I kind of looked at the Knicks and went,
wow, I kind of got their act together.
Fear drives ratings in politics.
Fox News and MSNBC and the world's going to end
and Republicans are the end of the world
and liberals are the end of the world.
Everybody's always telling me the NBA is too top-heavy.
Tell me the last time it wasn't.
People are telling me stars have too much power.
Tell me the last time they didn't.
Burden Magic, not a commissioner saved the league.
Michael Jordan, not a commissioner, made it global.
Kobe, LeBron, Shaq.
Nobody's watching for owners.
This league has been controlled by David Falk.
Falk, aren't tell him.
Rich Paul, LeBron James, Magic Johnson, Larry Bird.
Sometimes a commissioner.
It doesn't have a lot of power.
Let's all stop the fear mongering and the, oh, my God, the world's going to end.
Stars in the NBA.
Here's what's happened.
David Stern saved this league.
It was not doing well financially.
And David Stern said, let's make it about the name on the back of the jersey.
Put it on the front.
Give guys marketing and Nike and McDonald's.
And it has, you know, gassed up some of these players.
They feel pretty empowered, like any of us would.
And now suddenly the players talk and text and share the same agents and say,
you know what, we deserve a little more power.
Not the Ivy League agent, not the billionaire owner that doesn't even understand basketball.
It's all going to be okay.
The Knicks are finally relevant.
Dallas rolled the dice.
The Lakers are going to be good again because they're going to get Anthony Davis.
Kyrie, maybe he stays in Boston.
Maybe he doesn't.
But it's a captivating story.
Whatever happens to him.
But I disagree with Charles Barkley.
It's not collusion.
It's empowerment.
I've moved.
You'll move.
Stars moved.
Anthony Davis has given the power.
In the Falcons six years.
LeBron initially gave the Cavs seven.
I've watched NBA NFL guys like Elway and Eli Manning say I'll never play for that franchise.
NBA guys are giving you six, seven years.
They just get tired of it and want to go somewhere else and play with their friends.
It's all good.
All right.
There we go.
I like Charles Barkley.
I disagree with him on that.
Just disagree with that one a little bit.
Jerry Rice today.
Eric Dickerson.
Oh, Mr. Ram.
We'll see.
I'll have my Blazing Five pick.
We are packed today.
And also something to throw out there is I'm going to add somebody to not my Mount Rushmore.
I call it my bore four.
I've been calling it in that last couple of years.
Russell Wilson, Tom Brady, Drew Breeze, Andrew Luck.
I'm going to change the name that potentially
add somebody. That's coming up.
Be sure to catch live editions of the herd

Sometimes when we're in the pursuit of the thing, we get so wrapped up in the chase that we
don't realize that we are in possession of the thing.
And we're still chasing it.
and we don't know when we've done enough.
Because people scoreboard watch.
Life becomes about wins and losses.
Steve Burns, Dustin Ross,
because you find it important to be a good person
while you hear on earth,
or are you a good person because you're afraid?
Because that's two different intentions, bro.
Absolutely.
And that's two different levels of trust.

The World Cup is coming.
Ramos sending on to Ernie Stewart the Chip.
I'm Tad Ramos.
I'm Tom Bo.
On our podcast, Inside American Soccer,

I'm not worried about Balligan.
I'm not worried about McKen.
My only concern is what happens in the back.
The biggest decisions.
If you're going to look at stats and numbers,
he has no shot at making this World Cup team.
And the truth about the U.S. national team.
It wouldn't be a huge surprise if our team ends up in the quarterfinals

Blazing 5, my NFL pick.
We have picked 10 playoff game so far,
and we have picked the winner nine out of 10 times.
It's my best playoff, Blazing 5 ever.
If you combine my Blazing 5 picks on a regular season,
picked. We were over 60%.
That's as good a year as I've ever
had. That gets into, you know,
Vegas, sharps and professionals. We've had a
great year picking games. I've
thought a ton about this game.
Put a small wager on it myself.
Not a huge wage. I thought you said you weren't going to
you weren't going to bat on this as a little
bit. Not a lot.
Just just start getting concerned?
Gloved compartment money.
Okay.
Just a 20.
Just a
20. Let me say this. I have
I understand why Cam Newton, big personality, stylish, Baker Mayfield,
Aaron Rogers, big Ben, James Winston, a lot of fun, big quotes, lot of drama.
I understand why they're popular.
And they're all really talented.
But I said with Baker Mayfield, for me as a GM, not draftable.
You go ahead.
I'm not interested.
At the quarterback position, I'm looking for even keel.
No peaks, no valleys.
I don't care my wide receivers, you know, my middle linebacker, my safety, my tight end,
big personality guys.
But this is somebody that's running my franchise.
In crisis, I need him to walk into the huddle and say,
shh, I got this.
Rob Haventstein is a great offensive lineman for the Rams.
The perception is Jared Goff doesn't have a huge personality and doesn't have a commanding
presence.
Against the Saints late in the game, he came into the hush.
huddle according to Rob and basically dropped F-bombs and said,
be quiet, I'll take care of things.
This is mine.
Andrew Whitworth doubled down on the comments.
Jared Goff is not a lot of noise, is not a lot of personality, is not a lot of drama.
But he showed in crisis he can grab the room, grab the huddle.
He talked about his personality at the Super Bowl earlier this week.
something that I was kind of born with and how I grew up and how I've been.
And I probably attribute it to my parents and the way they raised me and just try to understand that it's still just a game and have fun with it.
You are who you are.
I think there's plenty of different personalities around the league at different positions.
And I think for myself personally, I like to take a certain approach just the way I am.
And I know for some guys, it's a different approach.
And I think whatever works is what you should do.
through for 4,700 yards this year and 32 touchdowns.
That's with a Todd Gurley, who was never the same in November and December,
and losing his favorite target Cooper Cup early in the year to an ACL.
What he does have, though, is he has traits that I admire for a quarterback, not everybody,
maturity, temperament, professionalism.
He outplayed Drew Brees late in the Superdome.
That can't be understated.
And for years and years, everybody rolls their eyes.
I've called it my bore four.
Boring.
Brady, Breeze, Andrew Luck, and Russell Wilson.
Those are my four favorite quarterbacks in the NFL.
The bore four.
Even temperament.
You know, an occasional fist pump.
An occasional get into the huddle and drop, you know, a word.
But no quotes.
Even keel.
Even temperament.
I mean, struggle to tell a joke.
These are not hip.
They're not lit.
They're not cool.
They're not noisy.
they're not loud.
Sometimes I would argue they all have a little dorkiness.
The bore four.
If Jared Goff win Sunday, I'm going to insert him and add one more quarterback.
It will be called the Flat Five.
Flat, even keel, no peak, no valley.
It will be Brady and Goff, Breeze Russell Wilson, and Andrew Luck.
I like my quarterbacks.
Less ego, no quotes.
Don't care if you have style.
You can have a neck beard.
You can be a little dorky.
You don't look great at the combine in your underwear.
Doesn't look like your bench press, Rhode Island.
I'm okay with it.
I like boring.
I like flat personalities.
Joy Taylor with a news.
No, no, no, no, no.
Turn on the news.
This is the herd line news.
So Heinz Ward won two Super Bowls with the Steelers
and was one of the key leaders on those championship teams.
but the Steelers obviously missed the playoffs this year,
and Ward thinks it's because the leadership has gone away.
And on top of placing blame on Mike Tomlin,
he also had some words for Rafflesberger,
who was his quarterback for eight seasons in Pittsburgh?
He said, when you wear that sea on your jersey that stands for a lot,
it's not just what you do on the football field.
Ben, you should know better.
If we say we're a band of brothers,
come talk to me like a brother.
You don't have to put me on blast in front of the media.
It seems like he picks and chooses his moments.
And Ward wasn't the only stealer
who had some talking to do yesterday.
Juju Smith-Schuster told ESPN,
I think everyone has to stop being divas.
I think we need to stop being the Kardashians
and just play ball.
Being in that locker room, I've learned a lot.
I know I would never want to be a problem to any franchise.
I think Big Ben deserves some heat.
You know, when Labian Bell left,
I thought it would cool down, and it didn't.
It got worse.
So, you know, if you have a party and the crazy guy leaves
and the party gets crazier,
then maybe it wasn't the crazy guy.
So, Labian Bell, there was a time this year when I was like, you know what, I'm not into
Labian Bell, but when Levian left, the problems got louder.
And you know, it not only makes me think less of Ben, you know what it makes me think, Joy,
I'd roll the dice on Labian Bell.
And I was guilty.
I was kind of like, this guy is just nonsense.
But he left and it got worse.
And I haven't heard a ton from Labian Bell.
He's gone to Twitter a couple times.
Lavian Bell, Antonio Brown and Ben, I think, are a bigger part of this drama and Tomlin than Lavian Bell.
Lavian Bell now, to me, is a more attractive free agent than he was in the middle of this season.
I don't know that the blame can be placed solely on one individual in this situation.
I do think that Hines Ward does have a point that Ben has been of the longest and he should be sort of the thing,
the captain of the ship and steer the team in the way that the culture.
of the Steelers is supposed to represent.
But that's where most of the blame for me
still falls on Mike Tomlin,
because you are supposed to come in
and establish a culture and stick to it.
Just the whole idea that he was like,
well, you know, as long as Antonio Brown's
performing at a high level, we're going to tolerate this.
Antonio Brown's not going to be there forever.
In your mind, if you want to be there for decades and decades,
what about the next receiver that comes along?
That cycle's never going to end.
So establish a culture and stick with it.
So despite the fact that he is the quarterback
for the Cowboys.
Dak Prescott doesn't usually do a lot of public interviews,
but after the announcement of Kellynne Moore
promoted to offensive coordinator,
DAC had a lot to say.
From the time he was a player to the time now,
the things he sits over there were watching plays,
he'll draw play up or, hey, this is a compliment off of that.
And, I mean, that was the main reason
I pushed for him to be the quarterback coach
in the first place because I knew the intelligence he has
in the game, how smart he is, how creative he can be.
He's a phenom when it comes to the game.
Honestly, just one of these young phenoms
and seeing the game, knowing where the game was,
and the way it's taking this transition into this new style of player,
whatever you want to call it.
He sees it and he gets it.
Here's where I'll defend all the young coaches,
is that, and I see this with my son,
the Internet has given kids an opportunity.
You know, I used to have, my parents had encyclopedias in the house,
and I would go upstairs, and my parents had National Geographic and Encyclopedias,
and you would learn stuff.
You know, I'd sit there in a rainy day in Seattle,
and I'd sit there and read that.
it was harder.
It is much easier for young kids.
There is greater access to everything, to YouTube, to film.
So a 29-year-old coach now is like a 36-year-old coach.
And by the way, Belichick 66 and as sharp as ever,
we have people running for president now, Joy.
Bernie Sanders is 70.
Mayor Bloomberg is 70.
People eat better, nutrition, education.
I look at these young, I'm not saying they're all going to work.
I'm not saying, you got to have the right personality in the Alphina.
I'm not sure if Cliff Kingsbury going to work.
I'm not sure if the kid Matt Lafleur is going to work in Green Bay.
But this idea that 29 scares us, 29 is 34 now, 29 is 35, and I don't have a problem with it.
I also think that there's an element of being able to relate to the players more, and that's being valued more than it used to be.
They used to be, no, you need to get in line and get with the system, and this is how we do things.
and this is my system, and if you don't fit in, you got to go.
And now people are realizing, you know, talent kind of matters if you want to win in any league.
And if you want to keep the talent, you need to keep them happy.
It's not all just about X's and O's.
There has to be a relationship there.
And I think that's part of what happened in Green Bay.
Once you stop being able to communicate and relate to each other, the relationship deteriorates,
and that's not a recipe for success.
Finally, Kyrie Irving seems to be changing his tune a little bit.
It was just a few months ago when he told fans at TD Garden that he was planning on
resigning with the team with his contract set to expire at the end of the season.
Kyrie was asked that he still intends to re-sign with the Celtics and free agency.
And his answer was, ask me July 1st at the end of the day, I'm going to do what's best for me and my career.
I don't owe anybody bleep.
He's right. He doesn't know anybody bleep.
He doesn't.
I would say he's a little flaky.
We've talked about this this week.
We did.
forever. He's not Kobe. He doesn't want to play for 20 years. And he's also an world-class
players. He's one of the 10 best basketball players in the world. He has a right to do whatever he
wants to do. I have a right to move to companies when my contract end. Why doesn't an NBA player?
I have no problem with any NBA player changing teams at any point. There is no loyalty on the
organizational side to players. Right. So I don't know why there's an expectation from players
to be loyal to organizations.
Now, if you put the fans in it,
that adds an extra element, of course,
but people have to do what's best for their families,
their careers, and their legacies.
And if that's what they feel is best,
you can't tell them what to do.
For the record, if I was Kyrie,
I would not leave Brad Stevens.
That would not be my recommendation,
but it was also my recommendation.
I wouldn't leave LeBron James.
So he could go O for two in my eyes,
but I'll fight forever for an athlete's right to choices
because the owners and the GMs and the coaches move constantly.
What if he's leaving Brad Stevens for Kevin Durant?
Hey, will we report it?
Yeah, it'll be interesting.
I'll be all over it.
Joy with the News.
Well, that's the news.
And thanks for stopping by.
The Hurd-Ly News.
Well, I mean, you know, it's funny.
When we think of wide receivers, you know, a lot of times, you know, we say they're divas and their showboats.
But most people believe the greatest wide receiver in NFL history and perhaps the best player is Jerry
Rice. And Jerry Rice was determined, was driven, was habit-based, and was unbelievable. And he is
joining us via the Coward Global Satellite Network. You know, Jerry, not only was your career
legendary, but your workouts were really next level. You were doing off the field, running up
those hills in the bay. You were the first American athlete who we looked at.
at his workouts and went, oh, he's different than everybody else.
My feeling is your personality reminds me a lot of Russell Wilson, who told me yesterday,
he didn't get nervous for his first Super Bowl.
He had so many habits.
So I want you to go back to your first Super Bowl.
I don't see you as a guy that would get nervous.
Take me back to it, were you?
Oh, man, I was so nervous.
Really?
I'm going to be honest with you because I think it really meant something.
to me. And plus, I stayed up all night long and I tried to visualize opportunities that I would
have during that football game. So I didn't get much sleep. The next morning is a long day. You get
up, you have breakfast, you have meetings, then you have pregame meal. Then you head over to the
stadium. So I went over to the stadium. I put my uniform on and I decided to relax on this table.
And guess who fell asleep? I fell asleep and I could hear my teammates come by. And they were like,
What is going on with Jerry?
This is Super Bowl, 23, and he's asleep.
But I had put all of that work in, and I was ready to play football.
So, yes, I really got nervous.
That's funny.
So it is interesting.
Your personality, you are the perfect superstar that you weren't showy.
I mean, you wanted the ball.
But, you know, where does that come from?
Your DNA has always been.
You're very driven.
You're very serious.
No messing around.
I come to practice early.
I leave it late.
Were you like that as a high school or a college everywhere?
You know, I think my DNA for my parents, you know, about hard work and dedication.
My father would take me to work with him during the summer.
He was a bricklayer, and I had a tough job to do.
And if I didn't do my job, he would discipline me in a certain way.
And I think it was just that work ethic.
And I was not the most gifted athlete, but I was going to outwork you.
And I think it paid off, and I had long.
jeopardy for over 20 years in the NFL.
Now you go and you're a three-time Super Bowl champ.
When you look back at your Super Bowls, do they all kind of, do you remember each specifically?
Or were they just, you've been in so many that they all kind of feel like the same?
No.
Everything was different in every Super Bowl.
And I was nervous before every Super Bowl.
Wow.
I want to make that point blank because I guess when something means so much to you, because you don't
never know, you never know when you're going to get the opportunity to be back in that position
again. So Super Bowl 23, then I remember Super Bowl 24 against the Denver Broncos, you know,
being able to catch the ball, bounce off those big safeties and get into the end zone. Super Bowl 29
with Steve Young. You know, Steve needed to get that monkey off his back because he wanted to go down
as one of the best quarterbacks, so he needed to win a Super Bowl. So every one of those Super Bowls
had a different meaning to me. You know, you played with,
Many people have compared Brady and Montana through the years because Steve is a little bit more of a runner initially,
but he became a great pocket thrower, the lefty.
He reminds me a little of Russell Wilson.
He came into the league as a runner developed into a really, really good passer.
But when you see Brady, we always hear about how much pre-snap, how he changes the call at the line of scrimmage.
Let's go back to Joe Montana.
Was Joe, did he just take Bill Walsh's call?
or did Joe like to audible a lot too?
Well, Joe was the same way.
He was in control on the football field.
If he saw a defense and he needed to audible out,
he knew he had the players on the outside to do that.
And as a receiver, for me, you know,
I would come to the line of streammage
and I was just like a quarterback on the football field.
I would see something and I knew exactly what I had to do
on that particular place.
So, you know, you can see similarities between Joe Montana
and also Tom Brady.
What do you make of the emergence of the Julian Edelman's, the slot receiver?
It used to be, Jerry, that, you know, the outside guy was the home run hitter.
Well, now quickness means as much as speed because of slot receivers.
Do you think your career would be different?
Nobody cornerbacks couldn't touch Jerry Rice.
They used to be able to.
You could go slaughter outside.
What do you make of the emergence of the wide receiver position?
Well, actually, that's really what I did.
I played slot.
I also played outside.
And I think with the run-pass option now, it's a totally different ballgame.
You've got to start looking at these slot receivers now and say that these guys are putting up numbers where maybe you have to look at them for the Pro Football Hall of Fame.
Yeah.
You look at Elliman.
You look at Welker.
You look at Amadola, all these guys.
So, yeah, you know, I moved all over to football.
field and I was able to
have a guy on the opposite
side to compliment me.
The Patriots, they talk about
not having that go-to guy.
Element is that go-to guy.
And if you play him five yards off,
he's going to, you know, he's going to
be able to defeat you and also
catch the ball and keep the change
moving. New England's been
to a lot of these. The Rams haven't.
Did you feel in your
second and third Super Bowl, it was
an advantage having been
in this game?
No, not at all.
Not at all.
If you get to the Super Bowl,
you deserve to be here.
And I like to reference this.
Sometimes you've got to be able to slay the dragon.
And we know that with the Patriots,
they have a lot of guys on that team
that got their experience.
In the Rams, they don't have that many guys.
It's going to be up to Donald,
also Sue, to try to get to Brady.
And it's going to be up to that secondary
to try to stop grunk
and also element.
By the way, maybe it's a silly question,
but I'm watching all your highlights here.
You ever see your highlights?
You're sitting home on TV
and you watch the highlights
and you think to yourself,
damn, I was good.
I was really, really good.
No, no, I look at myself
and I think I can always do something better.
And I think that's the reason why
I never got complacent.
I continued to work.
I wanted to be like the most,
most conditioned athlete to ever play the game. And I wanted to start the game and finish the game
the same way. And I think that's why I played it for over 20 years. Yeah, I've seen your stats, Jerry.
I'm not sure you could have been better. You're a very humble man, by the way, on behalf of Hennessees,
the world's preferred cognac, including Jerry's favorite, Hennessy XO, the world's first extra old
cognac toast with your friends this Sunday. There it is right there. Jerry, you're one of the,
You're one of the six or seven greatest players in the history of the game.
You still look like a million bucks.
And on behalf of Hennessy's cognac, thank you.
Okay, hey, the thing about Hennessy is that there are so many varieties of cognac.
And cognac is a brandy and it's made in Conyk, France.
And for over 250 years, they have celebrated this with their customers.
It's that never stop, never-settle attitude.
And that's something I did in football.
So this big game, I'll make sure I have, you know,
just Hennessy on the Rocks or Hennessy X-O, which is Extra O.
And you can go to Hennessy.com slash U.S. for the details.
The great Jerry Rice.
Thanks, Jerry. Good talking to you.
Hey, thanks for having me.
You bet.
I'm actually surprised he was nervous for the games because he, Jerry was,
people forget this about Jerry Rice.
He was not a burner.
He was never the fastest.
Now, he had speed.
What I always remember about Jerry Rice.
he was the first wide receiver I heard announcers say this.
Jerry didn't slow down out of his cuts.
Jerry's speed from the minute he left the sidelines,
you know, a lot of receivers do a stutter step into their cuts.
Jerry just ran the same speed.
That's why even though he wasn't a burner,
he was one of the first players, they said he has football speed.
That Jerry, you know, in the underwear at the combine, runs a 4-6,
and then in the game runs a 4-5-5.
That he didn't slow down out of his cuts.
And I can remember Pat Summerall and these broadcasters saying there's fast and then there's football speed.
And Jerry Rice could never run like Dion Sanders.
But he had football speed.
And if you didn't see him play live, he was, he and Randy Moss were just different.
Well, you see that all the time with college athletes who try and transition or even high school athletes
to transition from track speed into football.
It doesn't.
And it's a little different.
It doesn't work.
It's not the same speed.
but Jerry Rice is a goat, though.
Yeah, he's unbelievable.
Coming up next, LeBron return for the Lakers,
an update on Anthony Davis becoming a Laker.
He's going to be a Laker.
It's just, will he be a Laker by Thursday?
That is coming up.
Be sure to catch live editions of the herd,
weekdays in noon Eastern, 9 a.m. Pacific.
Cold and flu season, try Vic Synex nasal spray.
Jerry Rice was great.
Chris Brousard, Eric Dickerson, Jason McIntyre,
blazing five top of the hour. So glad to have you in. So glad to have you in. Very exciting.
NBA stuff, NFL stuff, very, very exciting. Don't kid yourself. The NBA loves stealing Super Bowl
week from the NFL. They love Skip Bayliss and Shannon and Chris and Nick and Whitlock and Joy.
And they love this stuff. They love it. Let me start with this. LeBron came back last night.
He played at about 75 to 80 percent and he was clearly easily the best Laker on the floor.
He hit that key basket.
He scored 19 in the second half.
And for him to be able to come back,
Lakers were 6 and 11 during his absence,
the longest of his career,
and he was the best player on the floor last night,
at about 75%.
And that's why the Lakers are willing to move all their players to get Anthony Davis.
Folks, it's happening.
The shoe's about to drop.
This was always a four-step plan.
The first step of this was sign LeBron.
Check.
The second step of this was LeBron assess the young players.
Check.
The third step was trade for Anthony Davis, almost about to be a check.
And then the fourth step will be end of the year.
You got a bunch of one-year contracts, KCP, 17 million, Rondo, Lance, Javale, McGee.
They'll bail on a couple of those.
use it to acquire a third high-level player.
We are two down, third one about to be checked, and then the next one when the season ends.
As Chris Broussard said, step two was evaluating young players.
Lonzo got hurt again.
Kuzman's good, not perhaps special.
Brandon Ingram, mostly just a guy.
Josh Hart should be a good bench player.
Here's Broussard.
I would give up them, our assistant coaches.
everybody except LeBron.
I don't care who it is.
If they want Jeannie Bus,
Rob Polinka,
we'll give you the new front office.
Even magic, I hate to say.
But if I have to,
I'll give up whatever it takes
outside of LeBron to get Anthony Davis.
Now the question is,
will the Lakers get in by Thursday's
NBA trade deadline?
I would strongly suggest to the Pelicans.
Four stages of divorce.
yelling, bitterness, simmering, and acceptance.
Speed her up guys, get to acceptance.
Because the Knicks are no longer a viable Anthony Davis spot, in my opinion.
Because yesterday they made a huge deal.
They got rid of a great player who I would have struggled
giving a long-term contract to Christop's Porzingis.
7.3.5, not a natural height.
a slasher who collides with bodies at the rim.
He's not your classic post-up.
He is a Scotty Pippin slasher with a better jumper.
He's been brittle, and he just came off a nasty injury.
So what they did in New York was, great player.
We can get a lot for him and get rid of some contracts.
And the Knicks now will go after Kevin Durant,
and the Knicks now will go after Kyrie Irving.
Now, my gut feeling is they'll probably end up with Kimball Walker
and Jimmy Butler,
not Kyrie Irving and Kevin Durant.
That would still be really good with Kevin Knox,
with some nice young players,
potentially Zion Williamson,
number one draft pick.
Nick Wright talked about it this morning.
I like where the Knicks are at today.
The Knicks can offer Kevin Durant something no one else can't.
Everyone can offer Kevin Durant in the max,
everyone that has cap space.
The Knicks can offer him his own franchise.
KD, you can pick your teammate.
You can pick everything.
All we have is rookie contract.
contracts, draft picks. They kept, by the way, the Zion lottery ticket, which is, it's only
14%, but it's as good a chance anybody's going to have. And you are not tied to what I would
consider an incredibly risky contract. Totally agree. It's a good day to be a Nick.
Don't fall in love with players. Fall in like with players. Today, the Knicks have hope and
optimism. The Knicks are something. I don't think they're going to get Kevin Durant. I
think he stays in Golden State, although his agent is from Manhattan.
And I don't think they're going to get Kyrie Irving, though I'd say the chances are better
than Kevin Durant.
It would look pretty cool if this is what the New York Knicks looked like, their marketing
poster to start next season.
But it's a good day to be a Nick fan.
Think of all the positives.
No more risky contract on the books.
Porzingis, 7, 3.5 slasher, brittle coming off a major injury, trouble.
two Max is available.
Kevin Knox is a very good player.
Zion Williamson is transformational at Duke,
and David Fisdale is widely respected among NBA players.
This is the first time I can remember the Knicks not having a horrible contract.
You've got to go back like 15 years.
People like Fisdale.
They're going to get the number one, two, or three pick.
And if it's a number one, wow, Kevin Knox is a really good player.
A really nice player.
Maybe not a superstar.
Maybe not a star.
Good player.
Two max guys.
No horrible contracts.
It's all good.
It's all good.

Joy Taylor is joining me on what has been a crazy week.
It really escalated Tuesday.
Monday morning, it was the Anthony Davis-Laker thing.
And then Kyrie Irving said yesterday, I don't know the Celtics or anybody anything.
We've got Porzingis and Nick now he's a Mav.
So that's what Charles Barkley's furious last night.
This is what the NBA has been forever.
It's been shoe companies and agents and stars controlling it.
I'm totally comfortable with it.
The NFL is about the GM, the coach, and the systems.
That's generally it.
NBA is about the stars.
They're two different business models.
I love both.
I think they're both great.
I don't think the NBA model works in the NFL,
and the NFL model doesn't work in the NBA,
and they're my two favorite sports,
and that's just the way it is.
All right, here we are.
First of all, let me say this.
I would not bet a ton on this Super Bowl.
I'll get to that in a second,
just a little bit,
because there is the great unknown Todd Gurley.
And I like answers, not questions,
in games that I would ever wager on.
But it is the Super Bowl.
People I know that actually do this for a living,
they like the prop bets better than they actually do the game for the same reason.
Gurley.
Nobody really knows, right?
This has been a very good year for me in terms of picks,
nine and one in my picks.
In fact, my only loss was I pick Kansas City to beat New England.
So, you know, people always say,
oh, you pick the Seahawks because you're from Seattle.
You pick the Patriots because I don't play that way.
I never have.
I want to get the stuff right.
So here we go.
Here is my blazing one.
That's a hot one.
Let's blaze it up.
Fire it up.
It's Collins, blazing fun.
Patriots versus Rams.
Okay, right now, New England is favored by two and a half, minus two and a half.
Here are the reasons you should like the Rams.
Okay, first of all, Los Angeles will be the best offense that New England has.
ever faced in a Super Bowl.
And New England scores a lot of points.
Philadelphia beat them not because of their great defense.
Philadelphia outscored New England.
You're not going to hold Brady, Belichick, and this team to 17 points.
It's not going to happen.
So a reason to like the Rams is this is the best offense,
and it would be even better if they had Cooper Cups.
The Rams have the six best offensive line in the NFL.
Well, that's a real good thing, according to pro football focused.
A lot of their wins this year.
Houston's got a bad O-line.
Kansas City's O-line's got some good players not great.
Chargers O-line, the weak part of their team.
One team that thumped New England, Tennessee, at a very good offensive line the Rams do.
They're also very good in shootouts.
They're five and one in games where both teams score 30 or more.
They've averaged 195 yards rushing over the last four games.
Those are all reasons to like the Rams.
I also like this.
The Rams have more sacks from Interior linemen, 25 than any team in the NFL, and they have hit the quarterback over a hundred times.
Teams that have hit the quarterback over a hundred times on a season, the Giants and the Eagles are 2 and O against Tom Brady.
There are a lot of reasons to like the Rams here.
They're good in shootouts.
Okay?
they are the best offense they've faced.
They have a very good offensive line.
That gives New England trouble.
And last is that their defensive line
hits the quarterback from the interior
and the two teams that do that,
Philadelphia won a Super Bowl because it did that
and the Giants gave them trouble.
Now here are reasons why you should like New England.
They're 6 and 0 against playoff teams this year.
They had some stinkers against Miami and Tennessee.
But when they played really good teams that made the playoffs, they rose to the occasion.
They destroyed the Chargers.
They went into Kansas City.
I know it was overtime, but really controlled the Kansas City Chiefs beat him twice.
Here's another reason to like him.
They go forward.
They don't beat themselves.
They have only 22 times this year a rushing attempt that got negative yards.
This offensive line was seen as a weakness.
It is now, at least in the center and guard positions,
as good as any offensive line in the NFL,
only 22 times that they go backwards on a running play.
Also, Brady, as he's age, needs more rest.
The Chargers game off rest.
He was unbelievable.
He's got rest, and he's got 300-plus passing yards
in nine of his last 11 playoff games.
This is also a big factor.
Brandon Cooks was a patriot.
They know him well.
Robert Woods was a Buffalo Bill with Stefan Gilman,
for four years, Gilmore's New England's best corner.
They'll probably put him on Woods.
Big Advantage New England.
But more than anything, the game comes down to this.
I've got a lot of definitive data and answers.
But I have one big question about the Rams.
What's up with Todd Gurley?
If I knew he was healthy, I'd be very comfortable picking Los Angeles.
But he posted career lows in touches and yards last week.
week, two weeks ago, averaging only 50 yards a game since week 14. And I cannot take the Rams
who enter the game, not only without Cooper Cup, but perhaps Todd Gurley at 60, 70 percent. And with
that, I would put a little money, not a ton on the Patriots winning the game, 34 to 26.
game in which Brady gets hit a few times.
The Rams are a worthy opponent, but I think that James White, Sony Michelle, eat the clock,
keep it away from Sean McBay, Goff, Gurley, C.J. Anderson, Robert Woods, Brandon Cook,
and that O line prevail.
3428, by the way.
It would be a cover, 3428.
There you go.
All right.
Let me go to this.
You're going to say I'm crazy, but this is just how I see the world.
This season, if New England wins, it will be their greatest achievement.
Generally, over time, this is the way it works.
Dynasties fade.
Shaq and Kobe lost their last finals together.
Magic lost to Michael Jordan at the end.
LeBron and the heat, ditto.
That's the way it works.
You get kind of old at the end.
New England's had eight Super Bowl appearances.
This is nine, and it's the most impressive.
obstacles, unraveling.
Gronk and Brady went anti-bill in the offseason for a month.
There was that Alex Guerrero situation where he got a little too close to Tom Brady,
several ugly road losses, Edelman suspended, controversy.
Yet they destroyed the Chargers, best roster I believe in football,
and they went to Kansas City and beat Andy Reed and Patrick Mahomes.
And it's starting to remind me of the Beatles.
They were already the Beatles, the goat,
They were already a musical dynasty.
Their legacy was intact.
Suddenly, you heard reports that John Lennon and Paul McCartney couldn't be in the room together.
Why?
Because Lennon's wife, Yoko Ono, had gotten so close to John.
Too close.
She was offering progressive teachings.
Like the Patriots, Tom Brady and Alex Guerrero got so close with new progressive healing
measures, that it kind of turned off Bill Belichick.
He kicked Guerrero off a plane.
The Beatles were coming apart at the seams, unraveling.
Their Big Four, Lennon, McCartney, Ringo Starr, and George Harrison.
And the Patriots Big Four, Belichick, Bob Kraft, Brady, and Grong.
Similarly, starting to unravel.
But then something amazing happened with this musical dynasty.
The Beatles released their greatest, most iconic album ever,
just when we counted them out.
Abby Road, you know the iconic album cover.
They came together, their last recorded album, and their greatest ever.
Musical and NFL dynasties, be very careful.
I know what you're saying.
This is Looney Tunes.
But I look at the great John Lennon, Yoko Ono, Paul McCartney, coming apart, Abby Road.
And I look at Brady and Guerrero, Gronk,
Kraft and Belichick, and you're counting them out.
They were not to be undone by Yoko.
And the Patriots were not to be undone by Alex Guerrero, New England, by about a touchdown.
Sunday.
Coming up next, Chris Broussard on the zaniest, craziest Charles Barclay's freaking out week.
I mean, it is just nuts.
It's great.
It really, it got a little wild yesterday.
I can admit it.
The beginning of the week is Anthony Davis News, you're like, okay,
this is going to be a fun week.
It's Super Bowl week.
Got NBA rumors for the entire week.
And then yesterday it just went off the rails.
It went off the rails.
Okay, who's going to blink first?
Lakers, AD, Kyrie, very lettuce.
Chris Brousard will be joining us on one of the crazy weeks of all time.
You know the NBA is loving that.
That's coming up next.

People in New York freaked out.
What was your take on it?
I think it was a great trade for both teams.
You know, if you just look at it from a standpoint
of how good are they today, yeah,
you would freak out and say Dallas,
robbed them.
But when you look at the big picture, you see it was great for both teams.
Let's start with the Mavericks.
Obviously, you got Porzingis, who will stay there long term.
He knows has a relationship with Luca Donchich.
Dirk Novitsky will obviously tell him about how great the franchise is.
And those two are building blocks for a future contender.
I also like Tim Hardaway Jr.
Because he can shoot the ball.
And with those two drawing so much attention, he'll get a lot of open looks.
from the Knicks perspective, as you said, it's all about having the max cap space.
Colin, there are people in the league who have told me weeks, months ago, long before they had
the cap room to get two max guys, they think Kevin Durant is going to New York.
There were people thinking Kyrie Irving might go there.
Now they have the cap space for both of them, and I don't think Durant will go to New York
by himself.
But if he and Kyrie want to go, and look, the league can't do anything about it,
there's going to be tampering galore going on with all these players.
Kyrie's going to be talking with KD.
KD. is going to be talking with Jimmy Butler.
Kyrie's going to be talking with Anthony Davis.
They're all going to be talking, figuring out what they want to do,
and the dream wish list for the Knicks is Kyrie Irving and Kevin Durant in New York.
Let's talk about Kyrie Irving this morning.
release some audio saying, I don't give a blip, I don't know anybody anything.
Where do you think that came from?
Is he setting the Celtics up for an exit perhaps?
Well, that's a heck of a backtrack, isn't it, from what he said months ago,
about wanting to resign with the Celtics.
He said he's going to do what's best for him.
Again, these last few weeks, I'll even say since he had the conversation with LeBron,
There has really been a lot of speculation, a lot of talk around the league from people saying he's not staying in Boston.
And this is people close to the situation.
He's not staying in Boston.
I think if you listen to what he said today at the press conference, when they asked him, has your view changed from what you said months ago to now?
He said, asked me July 1st.
He didn't say, no, I still love it here.
You know, we'll see.
We've got a long season left.
Let's see what happens.
He said, I asked me July 1st.
I'm doing what's best for me.
I don't owe anybody anything.
Kyrie is from nearby West Orange, New Jersey.
He grew up a Nets fan, but the Knicks are obviously the show in New York.
He likes the spotlight.
He's a fantastic player.
And even though Kyrie and LeBron have mended fences,
if you still are a competitor and if you want to show I can win it without LeBron James,
what better way to do it than with Kevin Durant in New York.
And if you're Kevin Durant, and we know he's competitive with LeBron,
even though they're friends,
if you want to one-up LeBron James,
what better way to do it than win a three-peat in Golden State,
then go to New York and lead them to a championship with Kyrie Irving.
If he leaves them to a championship in New York, Durant,
I don't think he's as good a player as LeBron James,
but he will certainly have a legacy or an accomplishment that surpassed LeBron James
if he can do that from a winning perspective.
Yeah, remember the Knicks also can get a hold of one of those Duke players like
Zion Williamson.
They have Kevin Knox.
So it's not like they don't have anything.
They got a top pick, a young man they like.
Now, I want to shift into LeBron.
And Dennis Smith Jr. is actually pretty good, just quickly.
Yeah.
I want to shift to this.
Okay, let's go Anthony Davis to the Lakers.
I've been told it's going to happen.
I think you've been told that.
The Lakers certainly yesterday, Brad Turner, L.A. Times said they're willing to give up everybody.
You agreed with that.
The question becomes the Knicks now appear to be out on Anthony Davis more.
He has said publicly or through an agent, Boston's not his thing, right?
It looks like the Lakers now certainly in the running for having the best package.
If you were the Pelicans, what would you do?
Well, first of all, you're right, Colin.
Yesterday was a great day for the Lakers, too.
There were three winners, the Mavs, the Nicks, and the Lakers,
because to your point, the Nicks are out of it.
Boston, if Karee leaves, they're out of it.
Let me say this quickly.
If Kairie resigns with Boston somehow,
Danny A.N.
Even if he's told it's a one-year rental AD won't stay,
he will throw the dice and get Davis there for one year.
he can convince him to stay. If Kyrie's gone, I would do that if I'm Danny Aange. He may
still do it, but I wouldn't do it if I'm Aege. So when we look at the Lakers, yeah, if I'm the
Pelicans, there's no way, Colin, I'm trading him to the Lakers before the deadline. Even if I know
he's going to end up there eventually, what I would do if I'm the Pelicans, I would send Anthony
Davis home for the rest of the season. Go to Chicago. Get out of New Orleans. Go to
Chicago, this ruins their franchise to a large extent. Go to Chicago, we'll let you know when we're
trading you. I wouldn't even think about doing it before February 7th. I believe I can get that
best Lakers offer in the summer just like I can get it now. So because here's why. Some people
think, well, with Boston out, with New York out, the Lakers will be able to lowball you and you have
to take it. Not necessarily because remember, Anthony Davis has to stay around all next year.
LeBron James is not going to let another year with this mediocre squad play out.
He's going to get impatient.
And at some point he'll say, look, get Anthony Davis.
I don't care who you have to give up.
And then they'll go do it.
I want to play a bite last night, Charles Barkley.
He's all worked up.
Do we have the bite on Charles Barkley?
Let's play this Charles Barkley last night.
Adam Silver need to block that trade.
Why?
I don't like what the Lakers are doing.
I don't think it's right.
What the Lakers are doing?
Yes, I don't think what did they do?
We're collusion.
And you know it's collusion.
Let's tell you something.
Ritz Paul got mad at me because I said a month ago, oh, the fix is in.
Anthony Davis going to the Lakers.
He didn't like me saying the fix was in.
The fix has been in.
I think Commissioner Stern, who I like a lot, he'd come out and says, hey, we can trade
Anthony Davis, but he cannot go to the Lakers.
We cannot have players and agents colluding to the stack super teams.
All right, Chris Broussard, respond to what Sir Charles said.
Well, first of all, he's wrong.
He's talking about now these players have the same agents.
That's always been the case.
David Falk had Michael Jordan, Patrick Ewing, Alonzo Morning, and many others when he was the top agent in the game.
So that's nothing new.
What's new is this.
In 2010, LeBron James showed players how they can take control of their own destiny.
That's what he did.
And that's what this is.
Now, instead of players leaving their destiny in the hands of the GM, the owner, and the other front office members, they are taking control of it themselves.
Now, they have to be careful because it doesn't work out for everybody.
Dwight Howard ruined his career when he got eyes for every place else and left Orlando.
Ruined it.
Chris Paul, when he left New Orleans, went to the Clippers.
Didn't ruin his career, but it didn't basketball-wise, he didn't get to the conference finals in El
Now he's kind of a role player next to James Harden in Houston.
Carmelo Anthony, when he went to New York.
He was still a celebrity and a superstar, but he didn't win.
It didn't help him basketball-wise.
His team in Denver was better.
So it hasn't worked out for everybody.
Some of these players need to be careful.
But this is what you see happening.
Players are following the LeBron James blueprint that he has started.
Kevin Durand actually did it better than LeBron
and is on a better team in Golden State and winning.
But this is what this is.
Players are now seeing how the GM,
I'm not going to let him send me wherever he wants to.
I'm going to go where I want to.
We can build teams.
We know more about basketball than them or just as much.
So we can build these teams instead of letting them do it.
Now, whether you like it or not, that's the reality of the situation at this point.
Well, you and I agree on this and always have great stuff.
Chris Broussard, who is also a hell of a football guy.
Favorite sport.
Good Hooper, loved his football.
You know, if you were just a little tougher, you could have played football and covered football,
but, you know, you're a little soft.
It got painful, Colin.
The older I got, the more painful it got.
Good seeing you, Chris.
All right.
All right, my guy, Chris Broussard.
Eric Dickerson, last hour.
This just came down.
The Pelicans Beat Rider, Andrew Lopez.
And this is something I keep saying over and over.
Anthony Davis was asked why he wants to be traded.
And Anthony Davis, and I'll quote him, said,
It's my time.
I feel like I gave this city all I could.
New Orleans.
He didn't refuse to play there.
He signed a second contract.
You couldn't get him better players.
Stop pretending you never had your chance with him.
Dan Gilbert had LeBron for seven years.
Couldn't get him good second player.
He went to Miami.
I've seen football players refused to go to a city for a day.
These NBA guys, they're giving you six years.
Shaq gave Orlando two contracts.
Shaq wouldn't give Orlando a third.
Anthony gave you two and a half.
He's not giving you a third.
LeBron gave Cleveland initially two contracts, not giving you a third.
Kevin Garnett gave Minnesota, I think three.
He wouldn't give you a fourth.
There are cities in every sport that are destinations for start.
stars, LSU football, Oklahoma football, Duke and Kentucky, Kansas basketball, New York Yankees, Red Sox, Dodgers, Lakers, Dals, Cowboys.
And then there are organizations that have to draft a little better, that have to recruit a little better.
Oregon went out and got Chip Kelly and created a new offense and almost got them a national title.
Okay, they don't get five-star athletes there usually.
And by the way, Sacramento and Orlando have been very good.
but free agents don't go there.
Anthony Davis, there's no perfect way for these superstars in the NBA to leave.
LeBron didn't give you a heads up and you burn his jersey.
And then Anthony Davis giving you a year and a half and you want to burn his jersey.
And Denver's like, I'll give you six months and you burned his jersey.
What are they supposed to do?
The more honest a player is up front, the more you crush him.
Well, also, you can't give these guys a hard,
time for never winning a championship or never coming close to winning a championship
and then give them a hard time when they want to leave and better their legacy by trying to
win a championship with better players.
Because that's what you fans.
It's a team game.
You fans always hold these guys that you didn't win.
You didn't win.
They're like, all right, well, I'm not going to win here.
I want to go win.
They're listening to you.
Taking less money to go win.
Joy with the news.
No, no, no, no, no.
Turn on the news.
This is the herd line news.
So the rookie of the year awards seems to be between Baker Mayfield and
Sequin Barkley.
Yes.
And apparently, two have a friendly bet on who will win.
Yesterday, Sequin revealed the losers got to get someone else a chain.
We get to pick the chain and we get to have fun with it because obviously everyone's
talking about who's going to win.
But we made a little bet with it just to show how friendly we are, that it's bigger than
just the award.
Baker's probably going to win it.
But they both had great ears.
I wouldn't have a problem with it either way.
I do think that Baker's going to win just based off of the fact that he did set a rookie
record and he also led his team to a better overall record.
The Giants were only 5 and 11.
By the way.
And Baker did set that rookie record in only 13 stars.
It should be noted.
RG3 won like an award.
It doesn't guarantee anything.
By the way, we've had a lot of guys win this award and it unravels.
No, but it's a nice accomplishment.
Yes.
It's not a bad way to start your career.
Right.
You know, something to build on, especially, you know, with someone like Baker, who people
had a lot of doubts over.
I think everyone considered Saquin Barclay to be one of the best.
best overall players in the draft, not even just in his position. So I think it was more of a
hill to climb for Baker. And also he's a quarterback. So I think they're going to lean that way.
Well, this will probably come as good news for Cowboys fans. According to Adam Schaefter,
Jerry Jones is not expected to extend Jason Garrett's contract. Garrett is entering the final year
of his current deal. And according to Shepter, his contract will not be extended short or long
term. Cowboys fans are all freaking out over Helen Moore.
yesterday and I don't know how do cowboys fans feel about Jason Garrett overall?
I feel like he's the perfect person for that job.
I think there's a reason the Cowboys are not extending him.
I think in one year I'll get to this in a second.
There's going to be some very interesting candidates.
And I think Jerry Jones, as much as we roll our eyes at the Cowboys, they're pretty functional.
This is what I would do.
There's no rush.
I don't think the Cowboys are dysfunctional.
I think the Cowboys are run in all areas, top to bottom by Jerry Jones.
Yes.
Jerry Jones isn't a dysfunctional person.
He's very successful.
But as of late, the success is not translated into Super Bowl wins.
They've won the division two times in three years.
Now, they're not winning.
They won a playoff game.
So let's be honest about this.
It's hard to win in the playoff.
Rams last year couldn't win a home game against Atlanta.
Philadelphia won the Super Bowl.
But Atlanta, if Julio Jones catches the ball in the end zone,
they don't even get to the Super Bowl.
Drew Brees, last two years, heartbreakers.
If you can win a division and win a playoff game, to me, if you can do that outside of New England,
for almost every franchise, that's a heck of a year.
I mean, I would take that every day for the Dolphins.
I'm not saying that it's not an accomplishment of what they've done.
I'm just saying for being America's team and the wealthiest sports franchise in the world,
you kind of want to raise the expectations to Super Bowl at some point.
Now that they all have Super Bowls, we all remember.
It was just a long time ago.
So I don't know what this means for the Cowboys.
I just think that whoever's going to be in that position is going to have to do pretty much what Jason Garrett does, which is take a lot of direction from Jerry Jones.
Finally, what the Nix did yesterday was pretty shocking.
They sent Chris Depp forzingis, their seven-foot unicorn, to Dallas.
And NBA execs have responded to this move with either suspicion or disbelief.
According to Sam Amick of the Athletic, the Knicks have been widely known to be targeting Durant for so long now.
And GM, Scott Perry, was part of the Supersonics Front Officer.
office team that drafted him. Some rival executives even reported the Knicks officials themselves
have been expressing a very high level of optimism on this front. Now, I know this sounds very far-fetched
because Durant is a part of a legacy, a dynasty in Golden State, but New York is New York, and they did
just free up a lot of space. They could fit Kyrie and Katie. And the situation with Scott Perry is
very interesting because Scott Perry was there, as I just mentioned, with the Seattle Supersonics. He
drafted Kevin Durant. They have a good relationship and Scott Perry has a good relationship
with players. He's one of the few African-American GMs in the league. He's very well liked and this
is a big deal. Listen, this would be an automatic if it wasn't for James Dolan the owner and everybody
in New York's freaking out. Nobody will come here because of James Dolan. But the Knicks have
smartly between Fisdale and the young man you talked about, they have put a bunch of people below
Dolan that players respect and like. And the President Mills is
Yes, Steve Mills.
I don't think Dolan is going to.
Dolan talked about selling this thing six months ago.
I don't think Dolan will get in the way of this.
I think increasingly he's let basketball dudes run it.
I think he's gotten older and into his music and he's not.
I don't think he is.
I think 10 years ago, Dolan was an issue.
I don't think he is now.
So, you know, New York yesterday was freaking out and I just, for the life of me.
Well, look, I mean, anytime your star player is traded away,
it's going to cause some level of panic.
But it's hard in the moment to look at the macro situation.
Obviously for the rest of the year, they're not expecting much.
But they are actually in a really good position if this ends up happening,
which, you know, if you follow all the bread comes,
it could be very much in the works, at least for Kevin Durant.
Yeah, Joy Taylor with the news.
Well, that's the news.
And thanks for stopping by.
The Heron.
Eric Dickerson last hour, Jason McIntyre, Monday's headlines today,
which has become one of my favorite segments to do.
Yeah, I mean, all this NBA movement, I always try.
I always believe when I come to work every day, my job is to take the emotion out of things.
I feel like I'm a judge and you, the audience or the jury and you're watching it on cable TV.
But my job is to take emotion out of stuff, be level-headed.
Folks, I read some of these 20-year-old bloggers.
Oh, my God, the NBA is doing exactly what the NBA is always.
is done. This is what it's always been about. The players, agents, and shoe companies control it,
not the coaches and GMs. And when we did have a dynasty where it was sort of a system with the
spurs, nobody watched it. We like our stars in the NBA. We like them. And they move. And it's
awesome. And, you know, this idea, well, like 12 teams aren't able to compete. That's always been
the truth in the NBA. That's always been. The bottom third of this league doesn't get on television
nationally and can't compete.
And the NBA just keeps growing and growing.
Coming up next,
Jerry Jones did not give Jason Garon an extension.
And I believe there are four reasons why,
and those four reasons are four coaches.
That is coming up next.
Be sure to catch live editions of the herd weekdays
in noon Eastern 9 a.m. Pacific.
Tonight, a big 10 double header tips off on FS.
It all starts at 630 Eastern as number five Michigan battles Iowa.
The number 21 Maryland takes on number 24 Wisconsin at 9.
Catch it all tonight on FS1 and the Fox Sports app.
Tennessee is going to be a number one seed.
Duke's going to be probably Virginia, maybe Michigan, Michigan State.
Exciting.
Doug Gottlieb's going to join us in a couple of minutes.
Let me just say this.
The Cowboys Jerry Jones and Stephen Jones, Jerry Jones family said they're not going to extend Jason Garrett's contract.
This next year, they're going to see how it goes.
For the record, I think they're right.
This is not college football.
It's going to hurt recruiting.
I think this is what they should do.
And I would say this, and I've said it multiple times,
stop lumping Dallas into the crazy, zany dysfunctional group.
They are not.
They draft well.
They develop players.
They trade smartly and they win games.
That's a good division.
They've won it two or three years, and they won a playoff game this year with a fourth round quarterback.
There is a Ferris wheel of dysfunction in the NFL.
The Raiders in Tampa and Cleveland and Jacksonville, Detroit and Cincinnati.
The Ferris Wheel of Dysfunction.
Do not include the Cowboys in this.
They win divisions.
They develop players.
They trade smartly.
They draft well.
They're going to go draft the tight end.
It's a good year for tight ends.
They're going to try to replenish their offensive line.
It's getting old.
They know what they're doing.
They will be a 9-10 win team next year.
It is all good.
I will say this, though.
There are four coaches to keep your eye on.
Lincoln Riley just signed a contract with Oklahoma.
But if he gets in to the final four and wins a national title,
remember Jerry hired a college coach Jimmy Johnson to win his Super Bowls.
Keep your eye and Barry Switzer.
So he's two for two in the college guys.
Keep your eye on Sean Payton.
If Drew Breeze after next year shows signs of age and retires,
Sean Payton once worked for Jerry Jones.
Keep your eye on Josh McDaniels.
If Brady, again, shows age.
They failed to get to a Super Bowl.
Josh McDaniels, with no quarterback in New England after Brady, Jerry Jones would look at him.
And Mike McCarthy, listen, McCarthy's been to a Super Bowl, he's won a Super Bowl, he'll still be on the market.
So Lincoln, Riley, Sean Payton, Josh McDaniels, Mike McCarthy, all potentially available in one year from now.
This is not college football.
You don't have to sign your coach.
It's not hurting any recruiting class.
So I think the Cowboys are in a good spot.
I like where they're going.
I think they're highly functional.
They do things I like.
They draft smart.
They trade smart.
They develop players like New England.
Trey Flowers has been developed into a nice pass rusher.
I didn't know who David Lawrence was in college.
I didn't watch him.
So, I mean, it's easy to draft Zique, get Amari Cooper.
But to develop a lot of the young players, David Irving, they have done a great, great job.
Is Dugger there yet?
Let's go be at the Coward Global Satellite.
network. Got a couple of minutes. I want to ask Doug Gottlie. First of all, Anthony Davis
Lakers, if you were the Pelicans, would you make the deal by Thursday or would you just keep
extending it because you're ticked off at the Lakers? Well, what are your options there, Colin,
right? It feels like New York's option has changed, but there are three potential destinations
now shrinking to two because Anthony Davis has said he doesn't want to be in Boston, so it'll
be a rental. So like look, this is a game of hardball where Anthony Davis's camp clearly wants
him in L.A. and the Pelicans want to open up to as many bidders as possible. You know what reminds me
it reminds me a shark tank, right? Like you know which shark you want to do business with, but you need
the other sharks to stay engaged in order to get the evaluation right. I think he ends up a Laker. I think
it's sooner rather than later, but there does seem to be a little bit, just a little like league people have
told me there's a little bit of panic set in from LeBron and Anthony Davis's folks because
there is a sense that maybe other guys don't want to play with him.
Kevin Durant similarly doesn't.
I've been told that Kyrie Irving has no desire truly to play with LeBron James again.
Kauai Leonard doesn't.
Jimmy Butler doesn't seem to want to come to L.A.
and play for the Lakers.
It's more clippers if he was to come to L.A.
And so this is kind of their last hope at a potential superstar.
And if I'm the Pelicans, if they want to throw the kitchen sink, you know, that Nick Wright
proposal of every young player and two first round picks.
I do it.
But otherwise, I'd just be very, very cautious because you don't want to go to Boston.
And I'm not sure.
The New York thing's really interesting.
A lot of risk, potential reward, but a ton of risk in that they don't get Kevin Durant,
and then that leaves them with a bag of money and nobody to spend it on.
Let's talk about the Knicks.
They now have room for two big free agents.
People are saying it's going to be Kevin Durant and Kyrie.
I think it's going to be closer to Kimball Walker and Jimmy Butler, who are still
really good players.
Yes.
What do you make of the Durant,
Kyrie, New York stuff?
I'm with you.
I mean, listen,
I know that we operate in this world
where, hey, league executives
are starting to say
that the Knicks think
that they're getting Kevin Durant.
That's great.
The Clippers think they're getting Kauai Leonard.
The Lakers thought for years,
they thought they were,
you know,
they knew who they were going to get
back before they got them.
I remember when Kevin Love
was definitely going to be a Laker.
I get this from the Knicks perspective.
I get it.
A ton of reward there,
ton of risk. The dream scenario
that somehow magic ping pong ball, they get Zion
Williamson, they get Kevin Durant, and they get
Kyrie. I do think that Kemba is more likely than
Kyrie, even with Kyrie's really weird kind of
cryptic statements today and that he's focused on now, not the future.
I do think that Kyrie's kind of not feeling Boston right now.
But do these guys, these guys, Colin, they can change their mind
in a day, a week, hell, a minute. Right? Just listen to the
read the comments of Kevin Durant over the last three months.
He says something different every week.
So they're going to get somebody.
If they get Kevin Durant, great.
It's going to be interesting.
But how many people have tried to climb that mountain at Madison Square Garden, right?
Pat Riley tried it with Pat Ewing and then Jeff Van Gundy.
And remember, they spent all that money on Larry Brown and Phil Jackson and Carmelo Anthony and Marri Stottomire and Penny Hardaway and Jason Kidd.
Like everyone's tried to get the Knicks back and no one's made it work.
don't think that won't be used as negative recruiting towards the Knicks.
Like I like David Fisdale.
He was kind of an old head in A.U basketball in L.A.
when I grew up and watched him play in college.
But like, look, this idea that David Fisdale somehow is Red Arbock, like, look, he got into it with Marcus Aul
and got fired last year, and they're terrible this year.
I think he's a good dude.
It's a good plan.
There's a lot of reward there, but there's a lot of risk.
And they just trade away Christop Frasengis, who I still think, you know, injury.
notwithstanding, Stilton has an incredible amount of upside.
And I think Dallas got the better of that trade yesterday.
Finally, we've got about a minute and a half.
Who is, what is the storyline Monday on the Super Bowl?
You don't have to give me a winner if you don't want.
What's the story Monday?
The story is, why not walk away if you're Tom Brady, right?
Either way, win or lose, the story focuses on Tom Brady.
If he wins, why not ride off into the sunset?
If he loses and it gets ugly, like, dude,
it's really hard to get back.
Kurt Warner, remember, tried to get back and ended on a concussion.
I think that Tom Brady, I haven't heard who you've picked, and everybody misses you here.
Why can't Colin get off his office took us and spend some of that real money he has, fire up the private jet, right?
And get out here to Atlanta and pee with the real people.
Be with the real people.
We're toughing it out here in Atlanta.
It's freezing cold, Colin.
I know.
I like, but I think Tom Brady is the private.
Tom Brady's the storyline.
Yeah, I think I like New England for one reason.
I don't know if Todd Gurley is healthy.
If Cooper Cup and Todd Gurley were healthy, I have no problem picking the Rams.
Goff's numbers aren't the same without Cooper Cup.
They have not been, and I have no idea how healthy Gurley is.
And remember, they were down 10 points in New Orleans, right?
The call notwithstanding, and they did get a turnover, and they did make enough plays,
and they did win the game, whether New Orleans wants to complain about it.
I still think Sean Payton, I know they checked out of a run.
Just take a knee three times, kick a foot.
field goal is 50 seconds left. But the point is that this Rams team was down, was trailing,
as opposed to the Pats, who they dominated kick to finish against the Chargers, and they took
a lead early and made the Can City Chiefs play catch up. You don't want that to happen. And it feels
like the Patriots are in a win-win situation, even with the coin toss, right? They've shown the
desire to take the opening kickoff instead of deferring. And remember the Rams, they've deferred
every time they've won a coin toss this season. And what's happened the last two games?
The Patriots have scored on that opening drive and made the other team play catch up.
I don't think you want to play catch up with this team in the Super Bowl.
I'm with you.
If they were healthy and if it wasn't the Patriots, the Rams are the better team, better talent.
But this coaching staff, this quarterback, they seem to find a way.
And I think there's a little bit of a mental edge there, considering they didn't trail until late in the second half on the road in Kansas City,
as opposed to the Rams who had to play catch up and really has had to survive in their playoff wins in order to get here.
Good seeing you, buddy.
We miss you. I know you like cold weather, but only when you can ski down a mountain in that cold weather.
Thank you very much. You're very accurate.
Joy and I will be next year at the Super Bowl.
It is in Miami.
3.05.
Her former hometown and one of my favorite places in America, especially during February.
Yes.
There's a lot of people favorite place in February.

IHeart Radio, Fox Sports Radio, and FS1, our final hour and a great one
as we head into the weekend with all sorts of NBA trades and the Super Bowl,
Monday and Monday will probably be our most watched and celebrated show of the year.
It'll be very crazy and fun and nutty and it's going to be incredible.
You know what?
It just feels like I have no idea what to expect from this game, though.
And it all comes down to Todd Gurley.
Like if I knew the Todd Gurley was healthy and was consistent, it would be a different situation.
We've been very lucky years and years ago, about 20 years ago.
It was during the Cowboys run.
there were like seven straight awful Super Bowls.
There was a run where they were just blowouts.
They were awful.
We've been on a run of thinking about this, Philadelphia, New England, Atlanta, New England,
Super Bowl, New England.
I mean, the NFL has been on a great Baltimore and San Francisco.
Yeah, incredible games.
We have been on a run of incredibly close Super Bowls,
and these are certainly two high-powered offenses, to Joyce appoint.
If Todd Gurley's, if you told me today, I don't even need to know the yards.
If you said Todd Gurley gets 18 carries, we got a game.
That's how I feel.
If you tell me Todd Gurley seven carries, uh,
but CJ Anderson has been,
has been great for them.
He has, he has.
So coming up in 15 minutes,
Eric Dickerson,
maybe he'll wear the ram hat.
I want his true feelings coming up in 15 minutes.
Later and best for last,
one of my favorite segments of the week now,
become a tradition, Jason McIntyre,
the big lead.com,
Monday's headlines today.
What will they be?
Well, I am.
hearing so much that Sean McVeigh is the next Bill Belichick, but let's take a closer look.
Sean McVeyer is 33 years old. That is half the age of Bill Belichick, who's 66.
He is the hot new boy genius, and he has earned all of it. He is sharp, he is fun, he is
smart, he is relatable. And when you put the resumes next to Bill Belichick, oh, wait a minute,
They're not close.
I mean, not really even close.
Sean McVeigh has two wins that anybody in this league historically would care about.
He beat the Cowboys off a buy at home, got a few calls,
and he beat the Saints on the road and got a big call.
Now, I do think the Rams are better than both of those teams, but that's it.
Two wins.
That's it.
We love in the NFL to anoint the next.
dynasty. Anybody's seen Philadelphia this week? Anybody's seen the Eagles? I can't, I can't,
they're nowhere to be found. That's because what happened to Philadelphia is what happens to
virtually everybody not named the Patriots. I want to remind you something about the Los Angeles
Rams. They are in a division that's really good in getting better. San Francisco,
Kyle Shanahan, Jimmy Garoppolo, Seattle, Pete Carroll, Russell Wilson.
They've already locked in three of their stars, Big Boy Money, Aaron Donald, Todd Gurley, and Brandon Cooks.
And oh, by the way, Gurley showing signs of wear and tear.
They're going to eventually, pretty soon here, have to pay Jared Goff a lot of money.
We'll limit who they can sign.
and, oh, by the way, their offensive line is old and getting really old fast.
And I want to remind you of the four franchises.
We were absolutely sure that we're going to take over this league.
The St. Louis Rams and Kurt Warner fastest show on turf.
And who ended their dynasty?
New England.
The Seattle.
Seahawks, Russell, that defense, the Legion of Boom.
Who ended that dynasty?
The New England Patriots.
The Pittsburgh Steelers.
They're getting big bend, getting to Super Bowls,
and who has really ended that dynasty?
Haven't been there in seven years to the Super Bowl,
the New England Patriots,
and Peyton Manning was going to wreck this league.
Remember Colts?
You've got to go to like 10 Super Bowls.
Eight.
He won one Super Bowl in Indianapolis.
Why?
Four for four, the New England Patriots.
They are favored.
They are more experienced.
They are going to reload.
Brady played his best game in years against the Chargers.
They're probably most believed going to win Sunday.
And it should be noted, they've got a big edge in this game.
the two wide receivers for the Rams,
one's a former Patriot,
and the Patriot's best corner guarded the other one, Robert Woods,
for four years in Buffalo.
But it should be noted it's been a players league since I started watching it in
1972.
It's always been a players league.
Well, yesterday.
Oh, today, there's a lot of stuff freaking people out.
Anthony Davis has said, I want to be a Laker and play with a great player.
Ooh, that's never happened before.
Oh, wait, it's happened a million times.
Porzingis wasn't happy with the Knicks.
and so he went to very aggressive owner of the Dallas Mavericks Mark Cuban,
and now the Knicks have the availability for two stars in free agency.
That's bad.
Kyrie Irving said this morning, I don't know anybody anything.
I don't owe the Celtics anything, and people are freaking out because Kyrie Irving doesn't owe the Celtics anything.
Charles Bartley was on TV last night.
He is beside himself.
Adam Seville need to block that trade.
Why?
I don't like what the Lakers are doing.
I don't think it's right.
What the Lakers are doing?
Yes, I don't think what did they do?
We're collusion.
And you know it's collusion.
Let's tell you something.
Ritz Paul got mad at me because I said a month ago,
oh, the fix is in.
Anthony Davis going to the Lakers.
He didn't like me saying the fix was in.
The fix has been in.
I think Commissioner Stern,
who I like a lot.
He'd come out and says, hey, we can trade
down to Davis, but he cannot go to the Lakers.
We cannot have players and agents
colluding to stack super team.
Well, timeout.
Time out.
My entire life, and I've said this a hundred times,
agents and shoe companies and stars
have controlled this league.
What's different now?
What's different is LeBron is friends with Rich Paul.
Arn Tellam had Shaq and had Kobe.
and David Falk had Michael Jordan and he had Iverson and he had Ewing.
And those two agents controlled the NBA for years along with Nike.
That's been the league forever.
What's different now?
That's an agent's job to be your friend.
I've got an agent.
We're good friends.
Why?
I trust him.
Anthony Davis to the Lakers.
Yeah, that's never happened.
A great player wants to leave his crappy team and go to LeBron in L.
Everybody's always telling me the NBA is too top-heavy.
Tell me the last time it wasn't.
People are telling me stars have too much power.
Tell me the last time they didn't.
Burden Magic, not a commissioner, saved the league.
Michael Jordan, not a commissioner made it global.
Kobe, LeBron, Shaq.
Nobody's watching for owners.
Kyrie maybe he stays in Boston, maybe he doesn't.
But it's a captivating story.
Whatever happens to him.
But I disagree with Charles Barkley.
It's not collusion.
It's empowerment.
I've moved.
You'll move.
Stars moved.
Anthony Davis has given the Pelican six years.
LeBron initially gave the Cavs seven.
I've watched NBA NFL guys like Elway and Eli Manning say I'll never play for that franchise.
NBA guys are giving you six, seven years.
They just get tired of it and want to go somewhere else and play with their friends.
It's all good.
Coming up, will it be all good for Eric Dickerson?
Mr. Ram, he joins us in studio.
Well, he joins us.
Maybe it's a talkback.
Either way, from Atlanta, near the Super Bowl.
He's nervous.
I can tell you that.
He's coming up.
Be sure to catch live editions of the herd weekdays in noon Eastern 9 a.m.

Sometimes when we're in the pursuit of the thing,
we get so wrapped up in the chase
that we don't realize that we are in possession of the thing.
And we're still chasing it,
and we don't know when we've done enough.
Because people scoreboard watch.
Life becomes about wins and losses.
Steve Burns, Dustin Ross,
you find it important to be a good person while you hear on earth?
Are you a good person because you're afraid?

Absolutely.

Like being an internet famous referee.
We're in the middle of a game.
This linebacker, this linebacker walks up to me.
He goes, hey, ref, my mom wants you to wave at her.
What?
Quarterback on office blue with 42.
Hey, rep, my mama want you to wave at her.
What?
Hey, Miss Parker.

What's up, fam?
It's Isaiah Thomas.
And I'm C.J. Toledano, and our podcast, point game is about defining the odds.
Like LeBron heading into the playoffs without Luca and Austin Reed.
And finding ways to win no matter what.
He's the smartest player to ever play the game.
His IQ is at a level that we've never seen before.
And he knows.
Without Luca and Austin Reeves, I got to manipulate the game.
We get a player's perspective on the challenges of the playoffs.
I think Joker's going to be exhausted this series.
because when they don't have Rudy in the lineup,
he has to really guard guys like Nas Reid.
He has to guard Julius Randall.
And then he has to give us everything he gives us
on the night-to-night basis on offense.
And when IT's friends stop by,
like Quentin Richardson,
we dive into some playoff history too.
Steve Nass would get that thing.
That man, hell get the flying.
He run up the court,
licking his fingers while he got the ball,
like, after you go through a training camp
with that, Isaiah, you figure it out real quick.
Oh, yeah.
Get your ass up and down the court,
and you're going to get the ball.

I got the Patriots winning by about a touchdown.
I know it's very painful for Mr. Ram.
Eric Dickerson's a Hall of Famer,
led the NFL in rushing four times, 1983, 1984, 1986, 1988.
He is Mr. Ram.
It's very, very painful for him.
I totally understand that.
So we'll have Eric Dickerson coming up and Jason McIntyre in Monday's headlines today.
It's been kind of a crazy week.
There's some NBA stuff, obviously, going on.
And the Super Bowl, you know, let's just remember this.
One of the reasons I like the Patriots in this game,
I think there's a lot of reasons to like the Rams.
they have a great offensive line.
They have a great defensive line.
It's very formidable.
Those kind of teams can, you know, fight off Tom Brady, get to Tom Brady,
keep them on the sidelines.
But in the end, no Todd Gurley to me is, it's just too much to overcome.
And I also think this season will be the most impressive for New England that they win.
They've been to eight, but this ninth season is really absolutely unbelievable.
That they, you know, Gronk and Brady went to.
anti-bill this off-season, lost free agency, Edelman suspended.
They had the Alex Guerrero situation where he got too close to Brady and Belichick kicked him off
the plane. And it does remind me to a large degree.
You know, it reminds me of the greatest band of all time, the Beatles.
I've said this earlier, where they were the greatest musical dynasty ever.
They were absolutely legends. They had their big four, Ringo Star.
Paul McCartney, John Lennon, and George Harrison.
They had their big four.
And the Patriots have Kraft, Brady, Belichick, and Gronk.
But there was a time when at the end of the dynasty,
Yoko Ono got very close, his wife, with John Lennon,
and started teaching him about progressive health and progressive ideas.
And similarly, Alex Guerrero got very close with Brady
teaching him about health and wellness and progressive thinking,
and it did not play well.
Belichick didn't like it and kicked him off the plane.
But just about the time we were going to bail on the Beatles,
and then we thought they were unraveling.
And just about the time now, this year, we thought the Patriots were unraveling.
Controversies, anti-Bill, Brady Belichick, Alex Guerrero,
Gronks getting old, Amandola's taking shots at him.
The Beatles came out with their greatest album ever at the very end.
Abby Road.
And it was, it's their iconic album cover, and we're just about to bury the New England Patriots.
Kraft and Belichick and Gronk and Brady, don't forget, we thought the Rams were going to be a dynasty.
They ended that.
We thought Peyton was going to be a dynasty.
He won one Super Bowl in Indy.
We thought Super Bowl is going to be a dynasty.
New England ended that.
We thought Pittsburgh, Big Ben got to a couple.
That was going to be a dynasty.
Why not?
They can't get past New England.
So just about the time you're going to bury, you know, you always want to bury all these musical dynasties,
and they release one more great album.
And it goes back to, you know, Yoko Ono, John Lennon, got in between, you know, McCartney and Lennon, and it created friction, but they were still able to endure.
And Alex Guerrero got close with Brady, and Belichick didn't like him and kicked it off a plane.
It wasn't perfect.
but it looks like they're favored.
And I don't know what I'm getting from Todd Gurley.
And it makes me think New England in their ninth Super Bowl is going to end up six wins,
three losses, and all three losses really, really close.
Here's Joy Taylor with the news.
No, no, no, no, no, turn on the news.
This is the herd line news.
So, Kyrie is changing his tune big time.
months ago he told fans at TD Garden that he was planning on resigning with the team. Now he was
asked if he still intends on resigning with the Celtics and free agency and he said, ask me July
1st at the end of the day, I'm going to do what's best for me in my career. I don't owe
anybody bleep. Yeah. This week has been so fun. Yeah. It's amazing. And they don't, by the way,
they don't owe him anything. No, they don't. They took a, listen, they took a little bit of a risk
getting Kyrie Irving. He had had some injuries. He had left LeBron.
so you think he's a little flaky, Earth is flat.
They rolled a dice, Boston did.
They had a plan and they kind of disrupted it with Kyrie,
and this is part of the risk in the NBA.
It's become a, well, it's always been a players league,
but as far as for fans, because I know this is becoming difficult for fans,
fans are joking, if they can, you know,
if they can start a, you know, a jersey trade-in program or something with these players.
But the fact the matter is, is this is the way it is now.
And it's leaking over into the NFL as well.
and guys want to have control over their career.
And you can't give guys a hard time
for not winning championships
and not having successful legacies,
but then expect them to stay in the same place
where they're not winning.
Now, obviously, he's in a good situation with the Celtics,
so you can't put that on him.
And he has Brad Stevens, and they have a good roster.
But maybe he's just not happy there anymore.
Or maybe he wants to play with KD in New York.
So what the Knicks did yesterday was interesting.
They sent Chris Stap's Porzingis to Dallas,
NBA execs responded to this move with either suspicion or disbelief.
And according to Sam Amick of the athletic, quote,
the Knicks have been widely known to be targeting Durant for so long now.
And GM Scott Perry was part of the Supersonic's front office team that drafted him.
Some rival executives even reported that Knicks officials themselves
have been expressing a very high level of optimism on this front.
Now, people are pointing to the fact that Durant's agent is from New York.
Obviously, it's New York City.
There's New York media.
It would be his own franchise.
There's a lot going on here.
But the Scott Perry thing to me is the biggest element in this because he did drafts, Katie,
who you're with at the very beginning of your career and your rookie season has a long-standing
effect on you, especially if you have a good relationship with that person.
Scott Perry has a good relationship with players.
Katie's family is comfortable with him.
I don't know if I really see him leaving Golden State, but if there's one person that can convince him to go to New York, it would be that.
And obviously, James Dolan has been a big factor in kind of the dysfunctioning New York for a long time.
I don't think he will. I don't think he's going to leave the Warriors, but if he did, this would be the team he'd leave him.
Bisdale is also very well liked as well.
Yeah.
So could be Kyrie and KD there next year.
So what do you do the night before, big day, Colin?
Rest.
Rest?
hydrate.
That's what I do.
I hydrate and rest.
I'm going skiing tomorrow for a day.
No, no, no.
Tonight I'll go to bed early.
Okay.
Well, the Patriots rest what they do the night before a big gamer or the Super Bowl.
Julian Edelman said, I like to take a little melatonin.
I like cherry juice.
Gronk said you got to take it all in.
you have to enjoy it.
Philip Dorset said,
I eat junk food the night before a game,
chocolate ice cream,
I do it before every game.
Patrick Chung says he likes to watch Food Network.
I like Chopped.
Hopefully guys grocery games is on.
I like to watch Chopped and wonder,
damn, how am I going to make something out of this?
Dante Hightower says he plays Fortnite.
I hit up my brother and asked him what he did before the AFC championship game,
and he said he just chilled and watched a movie.
Yeah.
So I don't know.
I don't really know what I do.
I think it's getting some rest,
but it's hard to get rest when you're anxious for something
is happening the next day. Jerry Rice told us he couldn't sleep before
Super Bowls. Right. Then sleep is important
in those settings. You don't want to be running
on low energy, but
the Patriots have been here a time or two,
so they got their routine down.
Joy with the news. Well,
that's the news. And thanks for stopping by.
The Heard Lye News.
Played for over a decade. A Hall of Famer, led
the NFL in rushing four times. He was
a pro bowler six times, all-time
eighth NFL rusher, and he is
Mr. Ram. He's joining us in Atlanta via the
Coward Global Satellite Network. Eric
Dickerson. Let me ask you this. I watched Todd Gurley last week, and he didn't look the same.
And I, I mean, you can tell when a running back's not right. He dropped a pass and he usually has
great hands. He missed a block. He's a very good blocker. Do you believe Eric he is healthy?
Yes, I believe he's healthy. You know, Colin, this time of the year, you're never 100% healthy.
You know, you're usually like 70% or 80% healthy, but that's healthy in the National Football League.
Let me tell you, first of all, it's very hard, hard to play in New Orleans. It's hard to hear in that
him. It's hard to get a rhythm. You have bad games. And Todd didn't play well last week. That's just part of it. And you look forward to the next week to redeem yourself. So, I mean, Todd hears what everyone else has been saying. So I know he wants to play very well in this Super Bowl game. And possibly, if he plays well enough, he could be MVP if the Rams win in his football game. What kind of game do you envision? I could see it being like the Eagles and the Patriots where you have two good offensive lines, quarterbacks that get the ball out fast to their players.
I could see high scoring.
What about you?
I see high scoring this football game.
I say maybe 37, 30, 30, 37, 28, somewhere around there.
You know, I think that, you know, one thing about the Rams is they can score points, you know.
But the big thing is you can't make mistakes against a team like the New England Patriots
because they'll make you pay for it.
And in a sense, vice versa.
We make teams pay for making mistakes against us.
Our defense has to get to Tom Brady.
You can't let him sit back and just pick us apart.
You can't play zone on him.
You have to, you know, hit him.
No quarterback in the National Football League likes to get hit.
They don't like hands in their face.
We have the guys that can do it in Dominant Sue and Aaron Donald.
You know, and Brockers, we have to get to him and hit the receivers
and also shut down that running game.
The running game is the key to the Patriots.
If they can run the football, run the football successfully,
that gives them that two-headed sword that they want.
With Tom Brady, you know what he can do,
and you have a running game to go along with it, it makes that much more dangerous.
But see, we have that.
We have that in C.J. Anderson, and we have an entire girl,
for sure, and our young quarterback, Jared Goff.
I think Jared Goff
has a lot of traits and similarities to Brady.
I think he has a better arm, though, than Tom.
Didn't I think he's more talented at this stage than Tom was.
When you look at Jared Goff, what do you see?
I saw a young man that struggled his first year.
I think really because of the coaching,
didn't have the proper coaching.
He has the talent, but playing the quarterback position,
you have to have a guy, a coach that can coach you up right.
Two weeks ago, when he played in that end,
NFC championship game.
He won that game.
Really, he did, because if we didn't have Jared Gough, we wouldn't be here today.
You know, the throws that he made, the scrambles that he made, you know, running the ball
when he had to, you know, getting the signals out.
I mean, you really don't understand how hard it is to hear.
You can't hear.
And the way they ran their offense, they'll be able to score 26 points in a real hostile,
hostile environment, you know, is big.
And the throw right here, that he threw the Brandon Cooks, that was a, that wasn't just
a good throw. That was a great throw.
Yeah. Do you think, you know, they've already got Gurley signed up and Brandon Cooks and they've
got a tough division and they've got to pay Jared Goff. Their offensive lines getting a little
old in the tooth. Do you think this championship window is maybe shorter? I mean, the division's
really tough. They're going to play Seattle and they got Jimmy Garapolo. How long do you think this
championship window lasts? You know, honest what you're calling, I think it's our time. I think this
championship winner is going to run for a while.
I think that we have the players.
I mean, we'll lose some players for sure, but we have the pieces in place.
You know, the most important thing is you have, you have the players, but the coaching
is so important.
I mean, you look at New England, and I use them as an example with Belichick.
Sometimes they didn't have all the greatest players, but they were still able to win.
With our young coach, Sean McVeigh, to me, he is a mini version of him.
He really is.
He's a mini version because McSvay is a football guy.
And I mean a football guy, he's all about detail, just like Belichick.
He's about detail.
He's about, you know, having respect to the players.
And the players respect him.
And the big thing is, I think one thing when people talked about all year that McBay can't handle all these big personalities,
you've got to leave, you got Peters, you know, and Kenny Hound these guys,
you have heard nothing come out of Ram Camp.
It's all about winning football games.
And I believe that we'll think that we'll have this run for a while.
I don't know if we'll do it like the Patriots.
I don't think we'll ever see that again.
But, you know, we have a very good football team.
What worries you about this game?
If you're a Rams guy, what worries you?
What's your worst nightmare?
Turn the football over.
That's it.
Turn the football over.
And you have to be committed to the run.
Those two things.
Don't turn the ball over and run the football.
I think we'll win this football game because I think our defense is going to step up.
I think one of the key things in this game is Wade Phillips.
I think people are underestimated Wade Phillips defense.
They've been playing very well the last couple of weeks.
He's been in this situation before.
He's beating the Patriots before.
When they won the Super Bowl against the Carolina Panthers,
he put it on Cam Newton in their offense.
And that's what I'm hoping that he'll be able to do this Sunday against the New England Patriots.
How surprised are you that they brought in Indomacan Sioux and Marcus Peters and Akib Talib.
These guys had a little baggage.
These guys, you know, their resumes were spotty.
Are you surprised how well the chemistry has worked with the Rams?
You know what?
No, I'm not.
After hearing about how Sean McVeigh
dealt with players.
I mean, and this comes from players
that have played under him,
you know, players that have been around him
and talked about Eric, let me tell you something.
It's only one Sean McVey.
He said, they can try to find another Sean McVey.
They're not going to find him.
He said, you might think you have a Sean McVey,
you don't.
He said, he is such a football guy.
He loves football.
He wants to work.
I think the big thing is you find coaches
don't listen to the players.
The players, we're out there in the fight.
We're not talking about the fight.
And that's one thing I think that Coach McVeigh does.
He talks to his players, say, okay, tell me what you see.
Tell me what you want to do.
And that's important.
And if it's not working, he's the first one to tell, hey, the player,
let me show you why it's not working.
And you have to take the time to do those kind of things
with players in the National Football League now.
How big is it for L.A. if they win?
What does it mean to you?
Oh, my gosh.
You know, forgive me.
mean, the city of Los Angeles, this means so much to our city of L.A. You know, we had the floods,
we had the fires, we have the shooting at borderline. I mean, this is so big, you know, sports takes
you away. It's like, I just need a vacation. I need something to root for. And that's what
this gives us. This gives us something to root for all the fans back in, I've been talking to
fans back in L.A., my friends, and they've been saying, man, it's RAMM stuff everywhere in the
offices. That's all they're talking about is Rams. You know, a lot of, it's not a whole lot of
Rand fans out of it. This is a long way. I mean, you got to say, this is a long trip.
Yeah. But man, you know, this is so big for our city of Los Angeles. And like I say,
forget me, you know, this is about the city of L.A. and the play and the young players that we have
on this football team and the older players we have on the team also. By the way, Eric Dickerson,
who has told me that he only eats like one meal a day. I hope you've splurged a little in Atlanta
and had two meals a day, Eric. That's I want you to be having fun, okay?
Let me tell you, Colin. What is it?
two o'clock, three o'clock, I haven't eaten all day.
I had one meal yesterday.
You know what time I ate yesterday?
What?
12 o'clock at night, 12 o'clock at night when I had my first meal last night.
I don't know how you doing.
I wasn't hungry.
Oh, Lord.
Eric, great talking to you.
Hey, good talking to you, Colin.
All right.
Isn't that the craziest thing?
I don't know how he does that.
He doesn't eat.
I don't, some people, I don't know.
I mean, I can eat once a day if I need to.
I have a smoothie every morning.
every morning, oatmeal every morning. I've already
had an apple, half a power bar.
I mean, to be clear, it's not my preference.
But...
Why? Why would... I mean, sometimes you get
busy, you know, there's stuff going on. I've never once
in my life been too busy to eat. I've never
been like, I'm hungry and I'm busy.
You know what I do? I get less busy
and I go take care of the hungry.
All right.
All right, this has become,
I would say, I think it's
almost my favorite segment. We do
it on Fridays. We started doing it back
in August. We call it
Monday's headlines today with the founder of the big lead, Jason McIntyre.
And he tells us what the newspapers are going to say Monday morning.
That is coming up next.
Be sure to catch live editions of the herd weekdays in noon Eastern, 9 a.m. Pacific.
This month, the greatest event in motorsports is back.

The founder of the big lead.
Big lead on Fox Sports Radio.
Saturdays 10 to 1.
Coming up, Winners podcast.
His name is Jason McIntyre.
I've known him for a long time.
How long do we go back?
We go back.
I can remember being in my yard in Connecticut and telling you about things I was going to do.
Yes.
And they have transpired.
And there you go.
I think at that time, McVeigh was in diapers, right?
The Rams coach?
He was like a Tampa Bay.
Seriously.
I was a little kid.
All right.
We do this every Friday throughout the year where he, you know, he started in the newspaper business.
And I, you know, when I was starting out, I wanted to be a sports writer, right?
Like, you know.
Made the smart pivot there.
There we go.
So it's good.
J-Max Journal, Monday's headlines today.
So Super Bowl, who wins?
I think the headline on Monday will be golf and running.
I like the Rams in this game, Colin, as we were.
talking before the show. Vegas needs the Rams badly. 78% of the bets are on the Patriots.
When that happens, you know what the House needs the Rams. I like the Rams to win a close game.
Low scoring. I also like the under. But I think the big story Monday is going to be, what do we have
here with these Rams? You've got a 24-year-old quarterback. I know you're big on golf.
You've got a great young coach in McVeigh. You've got elite players at running back on a
rookie deal in Gurley and a defensive tackle in Aaron Donald. Is that not the makings of a
dynasty. Young stars, young coach in the NFC, there's nobody better than them right now.
The Saints are kind of trending downward, right? Drew Brees near the end. I think Monday people
are going to be talking about Jared Goff and the potential for great things.
I think one of the things that's interesting is a Goff, according to the people that I know that
know him and the family, he has the makeup where he doesn't, you know, his dad was a major league
baseball player. They've done well for themselves. He's not a guy that needs to be paid 35 million bucks.
He's not.
He would take a reasonable contract if it allowed him to keep both Cooper Cup and Robert Woods and a good tight end.
So golf and running.
All right.
How about this?
Super Bowl, New England.
What's the headline for them?
Monday's headlines today.
Boston fans have been getting on my case all week about this because they know what's coming.
I believe Monday the headline will be the biggest losers.
And now when I say this, Colin Cowherd, just know if the Patriots lose this Super Bowl,
They will now have six Super Bowl losses as a franchise most in NFL history.
Tom Brady will be five and four.
He will have tied for the most Super Bowl losses as a quarterback with Jim Kelly, four losses.
Belichick will now tie for the most Super Bowl losses.
Any way you look at it, New England Patriots lose here, I think people start looking at just how dominant were these guys.
We know they've been very good for a while.
But think back to the Pittsburgh Steelers' 70s dynasty.
Okay?
Terry Bratshaw lose any Super Bowl?
Nope. How about Montana's 49ers? He lose any? Nope.
Remember Troy Aikman and the Cowboys?
Troy Akeman, Fox announcer, they lose any Super Bowls?
Those guys were all undefeated during their run.
I think people will start to just wonder, man, they kind of let down in the big game a little more than we thought.
Well, I think Brady lost to Peyton Manning in the last couple of AFC championships in Denver.
I mean, I don't want to go too in-depth here, but when you look at how they lost or how they won that game against the United States.
the Seahawks. Seattle on the one-yard line. That goes the other way. You know, the biggest
comeback ever against the Falcons. They could be looking at a four-game losing streak in the Super Bowl.
I mean, they got thumped by the Eagles last year. That was bad. All right. Monday's headline,
Super Bowl, does Gronk retire? Well, you know, if you look at Vegas, this line has come off some
sports books. There's been so much buzz about Gronk right now. I believe Monday's headline will be
grunked out.
He's only 29 years old, but if you listen
closely to his quotes this week on Radio Row,
this is a beaten man.
He was in college. He struggled with injuries.
Yeah, it's just, listen, he's
going to go down as one of the greatest. He's in the
discussion with Shannon Sharp, Tony Gonzalez.
Kellyn Winslow. One of the greatest
all time. But the guy's 29.
He's physically beat up. Now, he is coming off
a tremendous game against the Chiefs. He did.
He was very good blocking against the Chargers.
But if you're Grankowski,
Colin, you've got options. You go to the
WWE, you mess around in movies.
Like, he can make that pivot the same way Ronda Rousey has as well.
There's options for Grancowski.
Why come back for another year, get beaten up?
You know, the injuries are taking their toll,
and then you start to ask about Tom Brady.
He's going to look around that locker room.
Man, Granc is leaving.
Who do I have for the, who's coming with me?
Josh McDaniels and Bill Belichick.
And that's really it.
Brady looks back, and I think, and I know he said,
hey man, a zero chance I retire.
But Colin, just did he do that maybe to kind of throw people off the sense so they weren't
going to be asking him about it all week?
Nobody's asked Brady about retirement.
I think when Gronk hangs them up, Brady's now going to have about seven months to really think
should I come back?
Well, it should be noted.
Gronk will be out.
Edelman's got a couple years left.
But they're going to have 12 draft picks.
The team will have a very young makeup next year.
It's going to be one of the younger teams.
Now, they will have some veteran defense.
offensive guys, McCordy, Stefan Gilmore, Dante High Tower.
But the offensive line, I mean, it's interesting.
I don't know if they keep Chris Hogan forever, Gronkel be gone, Sony Michelle's.
This could become a much younger offense.
Yeah, we forget how close they were to not getting that home game in the playoffs.
Remember, this is a team, folks.
This is why I'm picking the Rams.
I just think the people are too much on how good the Patriots have been the last two weeks,
crushing the Chargers, beating the Chiefs.
I just think the reality is the body of work for the season for the Patriots was just not great.
Brady was very good, but not amazing.
All right, NBA trade deadline in Los Angeles, Monday's headlines today.
So we've got the Rams winning the Super Bowl and the headline Monday in L.A.
L.A. lands Anthony Davis.
Oh, also wins the Super Bowl.
This Anthony Davis stuff, I know we talked about it a little before the show.
It's starting to pick up.
There's a lot of smoke around Kyrie Irving.
right now. So you know all of a sudden,
Kyrie Irving is starting to backtrack
on whether he's staying in Boston.
Very interesting. Now, I know people are saying,
oh, Kyrie and Anthony Davis in Boston,
I don't think so.
Kyrie Irving, and this is on authority
from players around the league.
Kyrie Irving has texted players
in the league and been like, hey, what do you think
in this off season? You think about teaming up?
And it's not just the guys you would think like Kevin Durant.
Lower guys on teams
that have space for a max contract.
Kyrie Irving is a different dude.
Did you see what he did over the summer?
He, like, joined an American Indian tribe, went back with his heritage.
He's definitely different.
I don't think people can just read.
He wants to stay in Boston.
No, no, he's just a different cat.
He has his own way of seeing the world.
And the one thing about Kyrie, he told people years ago.
He's like, I'm not going to be Kobe.
I'm not playing 20 years.
He just signed on for his second movie.
He's not even 30 years old yet.
No, I mean, listen, if you go look at Shaq's career,
Shack was in it for about 10 years and then Shack got paychecks,
but he wasn't as aspirational or driven.
He moved into a Hollywood thing near the end.
Now, when you see the stuff with Kyrie happening,
you wonder, okay, Anthony Davis, if you're the Pelicans,
I think the trade talks are going to ramp up this weekend, Todd.
I'm just absolutely shocked that people don't think Anthony Davis is headed to L.A.
By the way, Anthony Davis is the sound's not great.
but Anthony Davis basically said today, it's interesting,
that it's my time.
I've given the franchise six years.
Now, Charles Barkley went nuts last night.
That was so stupid.
I mean, I like Barclay.
He's fun.
Do you know he forced his way out of Philadelphia,
forced his way to the Rockets?
Like, get over yourself, Barclay.
Let's hear, here's the sound from Barclay last night.
Adam Seville need to block that trip.
I think Commissioner Stern,
who I like a lot,
he'd come out and says,
hey, we can trade Alton Davis,
but he cannot go to the Lakers.
We cannot have players
and agents colluding
to the stacked super team.
For the record, for anybody who's over 50 years old, David Fulke and Arndtellum ran this league for 25 years.
They called David Falk the invisible hands of union negotiations, and he was a big, the lockout.
He had great influence.
He was Michael Jordan's guy, and Jordan was so powerful that when Michael left the NBA, the ratings left, 45% of the ratings just disappear.
Can you imagine how good things would be for the NBA if Anthony Davis and Lerner,
LeBron were in the playoffs together in the Western Conference?
That's a must-see TV.
Of course.
That's another reason.
I think it's going to happen.
Berkeley's way off base.
I would say the perfect scenario for the NBA is Durant and Kyrie Irving go to New York.
That's happening.
The Celtics still have a good team.
They'll still have a good team.
The Celtics will be another number two seed.
Anthony Davis goes to the Lakers.
The Warriors are still very good with Steph Clay Draymond, but they don't have Durant.
And now the Lakers Warriors for about a three-year run.
is a back and forth.
And Houston, by the way,
has Hardin and Chris Paul.
They'll be fine.
They have a good coach and a good GM.
And you'd have what the NBA has always been
an extremely top-heavy, talented six teams.
Nick's Lakers finals.
Can you imagine something insane like that next year?
Kevin Duran against LeBron again in the finals
with Anthony Davis, Kyrie Irving.
Zion Williamson?
Think about this.
If, let's say, the Rams win,
and let's say the Lakers land, Anthony Davis,
and you were the L.A. Times,
and you could only put one of those stories on the cover,
what would be the story?
Joy, he's going there.
I think it's 55, 45, 45 Rams.
I mean, I think you have to come with a combination of it.
Yeah.
Who would get the...
L.A. Center of Sports Universe.
Yeah, it breaks right down the middle.
Anthony Davis on one side and the Rams on the other.
I mean, the Lakers right now are the more popular franchise.
In fact, the Kansas City, New England game
got double the number of the Rams Saints.
So no question, the Lakers are a bigger story in Los Angeles,
but I think you'd have to say,
Super Bowl and then right underneath.
I was at the Lakers Sixers game talking to an L.A. Times reporter, and she told me that the top
stories on their website, the L.A. Times this week, were Lakers, Anthony Davis, Rams were like third
or fourth. And the Rams are in the Super Bowl. It's a Lakers town, Colin. We know that.
I mean, people love the Rams. It's not a slight. We're talking about LeBron, magic, Anthony Davis.
Listen, I've said this for years. Starbucks started in 1971. It didn't really flourish until
1985 and I wasn't drinking
it until the mid-90s.
Businesses take a long. Amazon
was selling books for a decade.
It takes a long time
to get people out of habits
and this has been a Dodgers in the summer,
USC in the winter,
Lakers and the Kings for a long time.
It's hard to make people change
from Saturday football to Sunday,
even as big as the NFL is,
people in this town have gone to the Rose Bowl
or the Coliseum for years and had Sundays off.
Now you've got to convince them to,
What happens if USC football gets good again?
Well, they're going to be good again, right?
We would agree on that.
They got some players.
Well, no, you'll see it'll be good when they got to make some change.
Yeah, I know.
What about UCLA, Chip Kelly?
They got a year or two away.
All right.
Greg Jennings right and wrong coming up on Monday.
