This is an IHeart podcast.
Guaranteed Human.
Hey guys, it's us.
The Jonas Brothers. I'm Joe.
I'm Kevin.
And I'm Nick.
And guess what?
We created our own podcast called, Hey Jonas.
We invented a podcast?
Well, we didn't invent it.
We just contributed to it.
We're the first people to do podcasts.
We get to ask other people questions because we're sick and tired of being asked questions.
Well, sick and tired is a strong way to put it.
But, you know, tired and sick.
Listen to Hey Jonas on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you.
you get your podcast. Just listen. We don't care where you hear it.
Another podcast from some SNL late night comedy guy, not quite. Unhumor me with Robert Smygel
and friends. Me and hilarious guests from Bob Odenkirk to David Letterman help make you
funnier. This week, my guest, SNL's Mikey Day and head writer Streeter Seidel, help an
a cappella band with their between songs banter. Where does your group perform? We do some
retirement homes. Those people are starving for banter. Listen to humor me with Robert Smigel and
friends on the ice.
Heart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts.
What's up, fam?
It's Isaiah Thomas.
And I'm C.J. Toledano.
It's our favorite time of the year on our podcast, Point Game, the playoffs.
We're digging into the biggest surprises of the season.
And I'm looking back on some of my greatest playoff moments.
If we didn't talk ever again, I was crying.
You just understood.
That's how personal it got.
Wow.
Then after that game seven, Marquis'clock, he's like, you know, I love you, dog.
You know, it's all love.
This was just playoffs.
This was just basketball.
So listen to Point Game on the,
IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts.
Therapy is fantastic, but once again, it does not have a monopoly on healing.
That's why I create the resources and that's why I create the community because I really
just want you to have more access.
On the podcast, Cultivating Her Space, Dr. Dom and Terry Lomax create a space where black
women can show up fully and be heard.
It's tough because we're suppressing our emotions and so many of us are like high-achieving
individuals.
Listen to cultivating her space on the IHeart Radio app.
Apple Podcasts or wherever you get your podcast.
The volume.
I got to tell you, man, this cooking with bulk.
It's fun.
We still need to tee it up, man.
We need to tee it up, but I'm talking about some of the stuff that I have seen you cook.
You were cooking some shit the other day.
What were you making?
Was it you shot some, you fished and you shot something?
Okay, yeah, yeah.
So we did, won the farm.
So we end up getting a fish that was caught, and then I end up filleting that.
And then my dad wanted, my dad seen a deer and he wanted to make sausages.
So he's, because the week before, he tried to shoot one and he missed.
So he's like, I want you to shoot it.
I'm like, all right, one sec.
I was in front of the camera.
So I'm like, oh, my dad just told me about a deer.
I'm going to go over there, shoot that.
Because we're going to need it for some sausages and some meat and I'll be back.
So literally through the episode we did that.
But then with that deer, we made sausages.
110 kilograms of sausages.
All sausages?
Yeah, all sausages with it.
But obviously you end up having pork meat and pork fat in it as well.
So what do you do with all that meat?
Do you just store it?
Well, we had our cousins.
I had some of my cousins, Elaine Christopher, who did the sausages with us.
And then we just shorter shared them.
That's crazy.
That's crazy.
Are you enjoying doing that?
Where did the idea for that comes from?
Because there are a lot of times where fighters, guys, quiet.
There are a lot of times where fighters want to start doing these other things
to kind of show their personality.
But when I watch you in that setting,
it seems like you're really enjoying that.
Where'd that love for cooking and all that come from?
I was just around the family, like in all the family barbecues,
and they used to get the lamb and, you know, pigs on the rotissaries and all that
and just do big barbecues, big family barbecues.
And I would always help.
I would make the marinade and I would help.
And they just try and take over the barbecue here and there.
And that's sort of where it all found a love for it.
And then during camp, camps and that through my career, like I had to cook for myself a lot of the time, especially when I was traveling.
Then I started recording it and then people just absolutely loved it.
It was crazy because even at the start when I just do my own dodgy little videos.
Yeah.
It was some of my most viewed videos at the time.
They were getting millions of views just for me doing like packets of chips.
Well, you just call them crisps.
What do you call them?
Potato chips.
Potato chips.
Yeah.
It's a packet crushing that, putting it on chicken wings and stuff.
like that and it would get millions of views
you know very early in my career
and I'm just like wow this is cool so people
obviously love it. It just started a few
stories getting interaction then I
end up making my own posts and now it's
its own identity and you know it's
gone nuts. But you've got a million followers
on cooking with Volk.
That's crazy for a person to get over a million
people subscribing to what they're doing
on their personal stuff
for the fighting. That's not
as out there because you're a world champion
but if people are to watch you cooking and having
over a million people following that channel,
it's crazy for me. And I can't
imagine you thought it would be that successful.
No, no, not really. I mean, there was
even a question where we sort of were like,
I was talking to the team,
and we were saying, you know, we want
to have it to have its own identity
and separate, like, you know what I mean?
And I'm like, well, I don't know,
like, you know what I mean? Like, I was thinking,
will it work? And I guess I didn't back it.
But then we were like, all right, we'll do it.
And what I was worried about
is the time
I'm just going to, you need to be so consistent.
Exactly.
How am I going to have the time?
But lucky I've got a great team behind me that help a lot with that.
So I was like, I can't think of recipes every day.
I can't like get all the groceries and all that and do this all the time.
But I'll take care of that.
We'll make sure we get all the, you know, so I can keep training because I'm still a fighter.
Yeah, you are.
Maybe later I can help with that.
But yeah, just I've got a great team around me and we're like, I will do it.
I'm all right.
If that's the case, let's go.
How, okay, you're right.
You are a fighter.
and you're still a world champion.
Talk to me about winning that world championship back
and the feeling that you went through after, right?
Because it was a rough stretch right before you ultimately became the world champion again.
How did you handle it?
What was that feeling of relief after you not only won again, but became the world champion again?
Yeah, I mean, the biggest, it wasn't just being champion.
I think it was just, again, I just, again, I just like that.
you know when there's challenges coming your way and just a just
accomplishing the the challenge getting over the hurdle and getting being
rewarded for for that right like so you go through camp and it's going to be
hard coming off the chaos losses and the big break you know there's some
adversities through there your head's going to go places and all that and I wanted
you know not only show my kids but show the world that like hey anything can be done
for me to be able to accomplish that that means so much to me me
just winning the belt back, I don't care, but me being able to jump those massive hurdles
and, you know, and just to accomplish those challenges.
You know, getting on top of that, it just meant so much to me.
When we were sitting in Miami, you and I spoke about, there was a stat at the time,
37 and never win, and you're like, I promise you, I'm going to do this.
And then it won't be such a big deal when a guy that's a little bit older wins in a world
championship fight. You did that and now we've seen guys since do it also. Obviously, Justin
Gaichi just last weekend. But when you go into that fight and so many people, Volk, are
talking about what the expectation is, what the outcome would seem to be leaning towards,
does that motivate you? Yeah, man, it always has. I've always, a lot of people doubt of me.
I've always, I've always had that underdog mentality that I always talk about, right? Like,
I've always, even when I played rugby league, I was tiny.
I was playing the front row position, which is where the biggest people play.
And I was tiny.
So you would have people laughing at me, and I've always had to hold my own.
So it's always just been who I am, and I've always felt like I've had to prove myself.
And I've started to realize I do my best work when it's like that.
So I love it.
But how do you keep that whenever you were as dominant a champion as you were?
I always want to.
Because now it's almost like, how do you find a way?
Michael Jordan in the last dance, right?
He went to Seattle, and when he walked into a restaurant,
the coach just didn't say hi.
And he was like, that's all I needed to make it personal, right?
How do you create that whenever you were dominating in the way that you did?
I mean, look, it's funny.
Like, you're going to have challenges in front of you.
I'm always going to respect those challenges as well.
So that helps.
But even when I feel like I am the favorite and, you know,
A lot of people, like, oh, I almost put my opponents on a pedestal.
I will only focus on what they're great at and, like, you know, their best performance,
they can give me troubles here.
And you can find your way around it.
And that's just how it is.
Now it's, so as I'm saying, right, I'm talking to you through that title reign.
I had to sort of find way and sort of almost fake it.
Like, you know what I mean?
Creation that's not there.
Yeah, almost, yeah.
But now you don't have to, you don't have to fake anything.
I don't.
I don't.
I really don't.
And it's easy for me because now it's like I am the old guy.
I am like in my last fight
I was coming off 2k a losses
a massive break
I am older
this is the new generation
you know and stuff like that
so I was like sweet
like you know what I mean like yeah
like I'm asking these questions too
so I don't need to try and find
motivation
you know to
you know to fire myself up
and doubt myself like yeah the doubt is
there and it should be
but I believe that I'm going to get through
and I'll show you so and then
even now, I'm 37 years old, you know what I mean?
And the last fight, obviously, I won, but he still had his moments.
And you know, is he going to make the right adjustments?
Can he land those shots?
Can I take those shots?
You know, am I going to slow down?
I know I haven't, but people are going to think that.
And again, I'm 37 years old, so I don't really need to look for it.
I am, there is some challenges that are going to be there, but I'm going to get through them.
Was there something, was there anything surprising in that first Diego Lopez fight?
I thought, personally, I'm pretty sure you've seen it back.
If I can recall correctly, we were all very surprised at how he wasn't trying to go and do more.
Were you surprised by how measured he was in his approach being that he was so reckless before?
But then when you go back and watch it again, the reason he couldn't get going is because of the things you were doing.
You did a lot of great things in there to really stop him from being as reckless as he was.
Was that surprising to you or was that the expectation knowing that you were going to fight the way that you fought?
Well, that was sort of the expectation.
Like, you know, again, this is what's fun?
Like, is he going to make the right adjustments now?
I was able to do that.
Like, a lot of people are going to be like, oh, he's got to let his hands go.
At first, you know, as you said, you watch back and you realize.
But, yeah, like, if he did a little bit better of a job of cutting off and getting himself in front of me,
rather than, like, you know, following and all that sort of stuff,
maybe he could have put himself more in that position.
But I mean, even when I did get caught in front of him,
we drilled a lot of certain combos and things that we'll do,
no one would probably come back.
And I was quite successful like that.
So he did have his moments.
But that's what's exciting about this one.
A lot of people are, how do you take the rematch?
And it's like, all right, well, I'm going to, I'm expecting him to.
I don't know if he can in that short amount of time,
but I don't know if he's capable of making massive adjustments.
but I'm preparing for a Diego that's made the right adjustments.
And I'm preparing for the same Diego as well.
Because I don't know if he's capable, even if he does,
oh, I'm going to do a better job of this.
It isn't just as simple as cutting off.
You do it wrong.
You can put yourself in serious danger.
You make things even easier for me.
So, you know, that's why we'll see what happens.
The fight IQ is what gets these guys.
Your brain in the octagon really can give guys problems.
Were you surprised?
that it's Diego Lopez again.
Were you surprised, especially after Lorone Murphy did what he did,
to Aaron Pico, you probably went on and said,
okay, Lorone, it seems like you would be the guy.
Lord knows what's going on with Monsar of Lov.
I mean, this, dude, there's one guy getting done worse than freaking Armand Tarukia.
And it's of Lov.
Like, he hasn't even gotten any type of traction
towards going towards a championship fight.
Were you surprised, though, that it was Diego Lopez again?
Yeah, so like
I was a bit of
not surprised if Diego
I eased into that, right?
It wasn't like all of a sudden
what's Diego.
I eased into it.
So I wanted Movza
straight after my fight.
I called for that and I was like,
yeah, it's got to be him.
But then they were like,
nah, not we want him to fight again
and that's when he was going to fight
Jean Silva.
I'm like, oh, okay.
And then that fight didn't happen
and then it was the Laronne.
And then I even put a tweet out
straight after.
I go see you in December.
Exactly.
So Rerron Murphy
because he finally
got a finish because that would have seen to have been the thing that was actually stopping him
from getting a title fight because he could be a tad bit boring at times and you know how active is he
and you know are you selective with who you want to fight and all that because these things can
you know we know it matters you know the UFC are going to remember those things if you're
saying no to opponents you're not active you know what I mean that's stuff that they're going to be
like I can I rely you as a champion but him doing that I thought he took a fight on short notice he's
probably trying to write those wrongs and then gets a big knockout. I'm like, all right,
he did pretty much what they wanted him to do. So I thought it could be him, but then when I found
out, I'm like, oh, so it's Diego, well, we want to watch Jean Silver and Diego. So now I'm like,
oh, maybe it's one of these guys. Maybe it's one of these guys. Maybe they're waiting for
John Silver. So I'm like, okay, so that's not guaranteed for Lerone Murphy. So then, you know,
because I was sort of training for him. Then when they said that, I'm like, all right,
it could be silver. Let's start having a look at this.
and then he ended up winning
Lopez ended up winning
and then
so is that going to be Lorraine
and we don't know yet
and I'm like they might be thinking Lopez
so that was maybe a bit of a surprise
then but then by the time
it was announced it was like I was already
you know preparing for him because I was thinking
it could be Lorone or
Lopez
all right guys so UFC 325

Hey, it's us, the Jonas Brothers, and guess what?
We have some big news.
What's the news, name?
Huge news.
We created our own podcast called,
Hey, Jonas.
We invented a podcast?
Well, we didn't invent it.
We just contributed to it.
We're the first people to do podcasts.
Pretty, yeah, pretty wide range of podcasts.
We're starting a trend.
But this one's extra special.
So how do we actually come up with a name,
Jonas, guys.
I honestly don't remember.
I think it was on a call about
what we should call it.
We were thinking I'm originally
calling it one of the
early names of our band
before Jonas Brothers.
This is how you guys remember it going down?
Yes. I have a very different memory of this.
We were talking about a thing,
a bit for the podcast, where people could call in and say,
Hey, Jonas. And then I
wrote down on my little notepad, Hey Jonas,
and offered it up as a potential title
for the podcast.
But thanks for
remembering that, guys. Listen to Hey Jonas on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you
get your podcast. Just listen. We don't care where you hear it. Another podcast from some SNL late-night

The French Open is one of the toughest tests in tennis, and I know firsthand because I competed there myself.
I'm Renee Stubbs, and on the Renee Stubbs Tennis podcast, I'm breaking down everything happening at Roland Garris.
Every match, every upset, and what it really takes to win on clay.
Jen Chinchin win.
I mean, she went down in three to.
Rabakina, but I'm delighted.
She's an outsider to win the French for me.
And she likes Clay.
Listen, Lerner Rabakina is arguably the best player in the world right now.
And I actually can win on any surface.
Because if she's serving, well, good luck.
Consider this your court side seat to the French Open.

When you, a guy who has that great fight IQ, have spent time inside the Octon with someone, it's proven you get better.
My son was at the third Max Holloway fight because you know Max and I are good friends.
And, you know, he was almost crying because you just were so, you had separated so much from him.
First off, I don't know how you did that to Max because he's so good.
But also, you just did better in fight two after the first part of the fight.
you readjusted and you went and fought a beautiful fight.
Fight three, you just won almost the entirety of the fight.
How does this fight look compared to the last fight with Diego Lopez,
which, by the way, in my opinion, that wasn't necessarily a close fight.
He might have had his moments and he fought better down the stretch than the fourth and fifth round,
but you won pretty convincingly early through the fight.
What does this fight this weekend look like with Diego?
For me, yeah, I think I just want to be even more dominant.
You know, he did have his moments.
I don't want him to have his moments this one
You know there was damage he did he still
Applied some damage on me which I'm not happy with
I want to and I had to take a bigger break because of that
You know what I mean I wanted a quick turner and I couldn't
Why so well just a couple of things like oh my eye and that
Because I lost vision in the fourth and there was a few things that
We had to take care of
But yeah so you know that that that postponed
Not postponed that delayed my comeback
And then yeah so it was a
I want to go out there and take minimal
damage go out there and a really set a statement and show people that I'm still that guy.
You know what I mean? Yeah, this new era's coming, but I've still got these guys.
And then I want a reasonably quick turnaround to fight a Lerone Murphy or Movza.
I was wondering about that at 37 if you feel like, man, I got to be turning the page.
I can't stay away from April to January, February.
That's 10 months, right?
For a guy like you who's starting to get a little older, if you want to, because as we age, right,
you start to feel it
it happens more
it's more apparent that certain
things are moving not at 37 no at 37
I swear to God I still felt like
I was as good as I ever was well I don't know I
they make such a big deal about
you guys being 37 maybe it's because you're smaller
and fighting is harder down in those weight classes
but at 36 I fought John Jones
you know when I fought John Jones the first time I was
34 then I bought him at 36
it's like I never felt like I wasn't in my
athletic prime so 36
you shouldn't start to feel those ways,
unless fighting is just way different down at the lower weight classes.
I mean, I guess that just depends.
Well, they do say that, right?
You guys are better fighters.
You guys are better fighters.
The smaller guys are better all around.
If you had all of your skill,
and I take the best heavyweight with all of his skill,
and put you guys boat at like 180 pounds,
you'd wipe him out.
Because you guys are just better in terms of overall skills.
Well, I mean, because I guess,
this is what I always say, like think of when it comes to heavyweights and all that, being big,
you've got a lot of options for sports.
Yes.
Yeah.
So like, you know, especially in America, you go there, the NFL scouting you.
Yeah.
Your basketball and all that sort of stuff.
For us, small guys, we're either we're a jockey or we're a fighter.
You know what I mean?
So we don't have many options.
So all the best, this is the only sport where we get to do.
But they even say, like, right, the prime.
for as the heavier weights, your prime is later in your group.
Yeah, it is.
It is.
Yeah, they say that, right?
Like, maybe because it's, you don't need to worry so much about the explosiveness and pace.
And because you get older and you slow down that little bit.
Now these fast guys, you know what I mean?
And, you know, I think that's where they get that from.
And the numbers have shown that, right?
Yeah.
So there is something to it.
But for me, you know, I still feel fine.
I'm getting through.
Like, can I do the exact same cancer I was doing five years ago?
No, like I can't.
Like, I've got to be careful with that.
But you don't need to.
Exactly what.
So my intensity is still there.
So I'm still trying to just as hard, but maybe the volume comes down.
But now I can rely on, again, I'm going to rely on the experience, fight IQ like I've always done.
So that's always been a big part of my game anyway, so I don't need to change too much.
You know what I've been noticing in a lot of the build is people talk about who's not going to be the champion this year, right?
And a lot of people say Volcanovsky.
And people talk about maybe Volcanovsky or retire this year.
Like, why is that conversation even a thing when I don't think that that's a part of your reality right now, like retirement in being done with fighting, is it?
No, no, exactly right.
So, like I told you, I want to go out of this fight, not take damage and have a quick turnaround, like a reasonably quick turnaround.
So that's my plans.
I don't know where they exactly came from.
Obviously, you're talking about, you know, you can, everyone knows I'm 37 and fighting here in Sydney.
I think people are just throwing that out there.
But, yeah, and like, people are going to, I do talk.
because I'm real.
I'm a realist as well.
So I like talk.
I don't sit there and just pretend,
oh yeah,
I've got another 10 years in me.
Like when people go like,
yeah,
I'm at that back into my career.
I am the old guy.
I'm doing funny skits about it, right?
Yeah,
that was the best.
We'll see how many,
like if people are asking,
like, you know,
if things go horrendously wrong,
all right,
how many fights are I want to do with that,
right?
Yeah, yeah, for sure.
Exactly.
So I'm going to have them conversations
because that's real.
But I plan on winning
and continuing that on,
you know what I mean?
So that's why,
because I have them conversations, you know, people are going to always be,
always already thinking about this, right, blah, blah, right.
You know, I was thinking about before the last time.
It's just a thing that most people will tap into.
Yeah, exactly.
When you put it in the headline, that's what they latch on to.
Well, I was having the same conversations before the last fight.
Yeah.
And what happened?
I went out there and one.
You went out there, you know what I mean?
So it's just, yeah, I guess it does depend on the person.
But, like, I'm not sitting there having these conversations because of it being like,
oh, I'm not going to even try.
Like, I don't have that in me.
How is that?
I can only do 110% every time.
I was going to say that.
Because for me, a guy like you legacy matters.
So you don't want to, it doesn't seem like you want to be the guy
that's just hanging around this thing fighting just to fight to make money.
You want to be fighting for titles because all you've been is a world champion.
Yeah, yeah, for sure.
You know, I want to obviously just be successful.
You know what I mean?
You want to make that money.
Money is a big part of it.
But at the same time, your health is big as well.
Yeah.
So if you're, you know, if you're struggling, you know, I don't want to be that guy.
people that are just taking damage after damage or like in, you know, knocked out after knocked
out and at the end of their career, you know what I mean?
So that's where maybe a lot of people, they've seen that two back-to-back chaos, like,
oh, it's going to go down.
Not it was over.
Exactly right.
So for me to bounce back.
But, you know, if that was to keep rolling on, I ain't hanging around, you know what I mean?
Yeah.
But it's not.
You know what I mean?
I've showed that.
I was able to turn it around and I plan on keeping it in this direction.
It takes a special person to bounce back from that,
become a world champion again in this weekend.
Once again, you headline in Sydney against Diego Lopez.
What can the fans expect from Alexander Volcanowski come Saturday night?
Obviously, we know Lopez is going to bring it.
I mean, the card is actually, we've got a lot of...
You think he's going to fight?
You think he's going to take more chances this weekend?
Well, he's going to, yeah, he's going to, for sure.
Even if he's thinking he's going to try and use footwork and strategy and all that,
that's going to go even worse for him.
I think he should know that he should know that he's most dangerous when he is
just trying to, you know, his chances to try and knock me out.
So he's going to come and bring it.
That's going to open a lot of doors for me, but I think I can do this in better fashion.
So expect a wild one, but one-sided.
My man, Alexander Volcanowski.

We invented a podcast?
Well, we didn't invent it.
We just contributed to it.
First people to do podcasts.
We get to ask other people questions because we're sick and tired of being asked questions.
Well, sick and tired is a strong way to put it, but, you know, tired and sick.
Tired and sick.

Another podcast from some SNL late night comedy guy, not quite.
Unhumor me with Robert Smigel and friends.
Me and hilarious guests from Bob Odenkirk to David Letterman help make you funnier.
This week, my guest, SNL's,
Mikey Day and head writer Streeter Seidel
help an a cappella band with their
between songs banter. Where does your group perform? We do some
retirement homes. Those people are starving
for banter. Listen to humor me with Robert
Smigel and friends on the I-Heart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever
you get your podcasts. What's up, fam? It's Isaiah Thomas. And I'm
CJ Toledano. It's our favorite time of the year on our
podcast point game, the playoffs. We're digging into the biggest
surprises of the season, and I'm looking back on some of my greatest
playoff moments. If we didn't talk,
ever again, I was hungry.
You just understood.
That's how personal it got.
Wow.

Marquis come in to you.
