What's up, guys? Hey, welcome to a brand new episode at DC TV. by a total wireless, the official wireless provider of UFC. They are in your corner with unlimited 5G data that will not slow you down. Well, something is slowing down, guys, and it's one that we didn't want to hear.
Starting point is 00:04:16 It's one that everybody was excited about because it's one that we have talked about for so long, and that's Amanda Nunes, Kayla Harrison, seems to be off for UFC 324. for Kayla Harrison reportedly had a neck injury that will sideline her. MMA junkie spoke to her management team. They did not respond. Sorry, they tried to reach out. But they said that back in the day, Harrison, okay, so Harrison underwent surgery for a hernia and disson her back, decision that was made after me.
Starting point is 00:04:58 with Doctor in New York last week. Harrison is expected to be sidelined for at least six months, according to Leo Walker Guamarez on X. UFC officials have yet to confirm or comment on the injury. But the UFC slash Paramount Twitter reported that Harrison is now out and will not defend her championship on January 24th. They said this was in the Eagle Tribune, northeast Massachusetts. She has strong ties.
Starting point is 00:05:37 She lived there as she was making her way to trying to become an Olympic champion. That's a bummer. That's a real bummer that Kayla Harrison is out because there is no bigger female fight in the world than Amanda Nunes versus Kayla Harrison. We talked about this when the fight was announced because you have a grappler in Harrison, a striker fight. and Amanda Nunes, the history, the draw, the enormity of the fight, who Amanda Nunes has been to female fighting to Kayla Harrison, winning that belt and that weight class and trying to replace her and become as important as Amanda was to fighting for females. But now it's not happening. So that leads to this question. What next? First off, I'm no doctor, guys. I'm no
Starting point is 00:06:30 I'm not going to pretend to be. Six months seems hopeful in terms of how long Harrison will be out of fighting. Six months for a neck injury, especially if there is surgery, is very hopeful. I can say after back surgery, which was a disc, I was never the same. I was never able to train at the level that I trained prior to said back surgery. So for a neck and knowing guys in wrestling that I've dealt with necks, six months, if ever, to being who you were, is a very wishful way of thinking. But Kayla Harrison is the one percent of the one percent in terms of athletes and mental
Starting point is 00:07:29 toughness, preparation, and everything else. So if there's anyone that could make it back from that type of injury to becoming the person that they was prior, it's the great Kayla Harrison. So hats off to the champion or hopefully good luck in Godspeed on a quick recovery for a woman who has meant so much to all of combat sports and, uh, to a woman that has a massive future in mixed martial arts. At least it would seem that way. But for me, it's about what's next, right? Amanda Nunes walked away after winning
Starting point is 00:08:10 and defending her championship in Canada a few years ago because she felt like she was out of challengers. She felt like she had done everything she could in mixed martial arts, so she needed a break, she needed time away from fighting. She had beaten, uh, Louise, give me the gal's name, 135 Mexican girl. She had beaten her in Canada
Starting point is 00:08:33 in a fight that was kind of boring because she dominated so thoroughly and it was much easier than many anticipated. I can't remember the girl's name.
Starting point is 00:08:45 She got her face cut. The fight wasn't as fun as people thought and it wasn't as challenging to Amanda as she thought that the fight would be. So she said,
Starting point is 00:08:54 you know what, I'm done with this for a little bit. I'm going to take some time. I'm going to be out of fighting. for a little bit. So she retired. Amanda Nunes had no idea that she would come back to fighting. But then Kayla Harris ascends to becoming, I'm putting in this myself because Luis is taking forever. Kayla Harrison becomes the champion and she goes, you know what, this is exciting. You know, many times, this is Irene Aldana.
Starting point is 00:09:27 Irene El Donna. God, wow, can I forget that. Kayla Harrison becoming the champion gets exciting to the great Amanda Nunes. Guys, many times, though, many times, we have seen these super elite level athletes almost get bored with their divisions, with the sport that they compete in, and they step away. We saw it with John Jones. When John Jones fought Anthony Smith, when John Jones fought Anthony Smith, when John Jones fought Santiago Santos. When John Jones fought Dominic Reyes, he spoke openly about being almost bored with the options and the challenges, so he wasn't getting the most out of himself in those fights.
Starting point is 00:10:12 When he came back, he came back at Heavyweight against Cyril gone, something that excited him so he went and did it. That's what we found with Amanda Nunes. Once Kayla was the champion, it excited her. It made her want to come back and fight again. So she gets that super fight. She's all set to go for the UFC's debut on Paramount. She's ready to go and try to defend or regain the championship from the fighter that came into her gym that she ultimately left and built her own gym, who became the champion in the weight class that she once was the champion in, and now she ruled.
Starting point is 00:10:54 It was exciting. I saw a picture of Amanda Nunes, and I'll have a picture of. Louise put that picture up there. She looked in phenomenal shape. She's training. She's ready. She's prepared. Now that challenge is gone.
Starting point is 00:11:08 Norman Dumont, who is riding hot right now, has thrown her name in the hat and says, I'll fight her. I'll do it. But does that excite the former champion? Does that make her reconsider what she felt all those years ago after Canada? Does that make her go, you know what, this is enough? The belt, obviously, guys, wasn't enough to keep her because she walked away from him. So does an interim title with the promise that Kayla Harrison will be back keep her? Is that enough for Amanda Nunes?
Starting point is 00:11:48 Or does she even get the option? When you get six months, when you hear six months, you go, well, six months ain't that long for Amanda Nunes when she's been sitting out a couple years. Hey, it's us, the Jonas brothers. And guess what? We have some big news. What's the news, name? Huge news. We created our own podcast called Hey Jonas. We invented a podcast? Well, we didn't invent it. We just contributed to it. We're the first people to do podcasts.
Starting point is 00:12:14 Pretty, yeah, pretty wide range of podcasts throughout there. But this one's extra special. So how do we actually come up with a name Hey Jonas, guys? I honestly don't remember. I think it was on a call about what we should call it. And, well, we were thinking I'm originally calling it one of the early names of our band before Jonas Brothers. This is how you guys remember it going down? Yes.
Starting point is 00:12:38 I have a very different memory of this. We were talking about a thing, a bit for the podcast, for people could call in and say, hey, Jonas. And then I wrote down on my little notepad, Hey Jonas, and offered it up as a potential title for the podcast. But thanks for remembering that, guys. Listen to Hey Jonas on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcast. Just listen. We don't care where you hear it. Another podcast from some SNL late night comedy guy, not quite. Unhumor me with Robert Smygel and friends. Me and hilarious guests from Bob Odenkirk to David Letterman help make you
Starting point is 00:13:11 funnier. This week, my guest, SNL's Mikey Day and head writer, Streeter Seidel, help an a cappella band with their between songs banter. Where does your group perform? We do some retirement homes. Those people are starving for banter. Listen to humor me with Robert Smigel and friends on the eye heart. Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Jacob Kingston grew up in an isolated polygamous sect. We were God's chosen kingdom on earth. He felt destined for greatness.
Starting point is 00:13:40 So when a swaggering Armenian businessman catapults Jacob into an extraordinary world, he doesn't look back. Ferraris and Lamborghinis, private jets, meeting the president of Turkey. I'm Michelle McPhee, and this is one of the most shocking criminal conspiracy. She's I've ever come across. When Jacob met Levan this went to a billion dollar fraud. But with two kings from entirely different worlds, just how long can their empire survive?
Starting point is 00:14:09 The largest tax investigation in American history. You need to tell me what you know. Is somebody coming after me? Jacob told Levan, you're ruining my life. Listen to Kingdom of Fraud on the I-Heart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever. you get your podcasts. Last night, a blown call changed a game.
Starting point is 00:14:33 This morning, the internet lost its mind. Highlights are trending, opinions are flying, and nobody's telling you exactly what happened. That's where Sports Slice comes in. I'm Timbo. Every episode, we're cutting through the noise. Breaking down the plays, the controversies, and the stories behind the headlines.
Starting point is 00:14:48 We go straight to the source, the athlete themselves, their locker room stories, their reactions, the stuff nobody gets to hear. The laughs, the drama, the triumphs, the moments that never make the highlight. reel. From viral moments to historic games, from buzzer beaters to controversial calls, we break it down, give you context, and ask the questions everybody wants answered.
Starting point is 00:15:08 SportsSlice brings you closer to the action with stories told by the people who live them. Listen to SportsSlice on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcast. And for more, follow Timbo Slices Life 12 and the TikTok podcast network on TikTok. Now, point back to what I said earlier, six months is wishful thinking. If it's only six months, I would think to myself, I'll wait, Amanda, can you wait until the summer to fight Kayla Harrison? If it's longer, Amanda, can you do an interim title fight? And can we justify doing an interim title fight when Kayla Harrison just beat Juliana Pena in the way that she did not so long ago? If I'm Amanda Nunes and I have an eye.
Starting point is 00:15:54 have an idea that I want to pursue this career again further. This is not a one-off, and I can't imagine, it would have been a one-off because I don't know if the UFC signs off on a one-off. Because what if she wins and then goes, I'm done with it again. Now you have a vacant belt again, which went to Raquel Pennington after the belt was vacated. If she is going to do this as a career,
Starting point is 00:16:23 she has to stay on the fight card. She has got to go and fight for the interim title if they make it in interim title fight. One, it helps the UFC because she's a big name. But two, it also gets her back in there. Because if this is a career that she is going to pursue again, full time, as a competitor, she's got to do it. Chale and I have talked about this ad nauseum.
Starting point is 00:16:47 You don't get better at something by not doing it. This now would not give her that thing that drew her back. But what it would do is it would get her inside of an octagon competing and fighting. So then you would imagine the next time she goes into the octagon, she would be better. It's hard to go back in there with the best in the world. Norman Dumont is one of the best in the world. Kayla Harrison is the best in the world. It's hard to go in there with one of the best in the world.
Starting point is 00:17:27 But it's much better than going in with the absolute best. So now that this injury, however unfortunate it is, has taken Kayla Harrison out of the fight, you take advantage of the opportunity and you go in there and you get your feet wet again and you fight. That's what I would have done. I don't know what Amanda will do. And I don't even know if Amanda's going to have that as an option. I don't know she'll even have the option of whether or not she wants to fight. But if she does, I would say she should take it.
Starting point is 00:18:00 take it go out there and get your feet wet go out there and compete but cala's out man that sucks but i think this is a massive opportunity for the lioness to go out there and try to see and this is something she still wants to do and if it's something that she can still do at that elite level that she is used to competing at which is what she did before as a double champion what do you guys think Amanda will do do you think she fights do you think she gets the option to fight and does it benefit her to fight once before she goes in there with Kayla Harrison? A lot of questions surrounding the division, but guess what? If you would have asked me if all these questions are of all this topic would be so valuable in MMA after what we saw
Starting point is 00:18:48 when Raquel Pinnington fought against the other girl for the belt, I wouldn't have believed Ryan Clark once said, get rid of the division after that fight. Once again, a great champion in Kayla Harrison, the greatest of all time of Amanda Nunes coming back, and now Norma Dumonts in the conversation, the female band-oamly division is back a topic. And with those characters and those names, of course it is. Guys, let me know your thoughts and those comments.
Starting point is 00:19:20 Until next time, like, subscribe. And it's 2026, baby. It's time to get back to work at DCTV. Until next time, peace. Hey guys, it's us. The Jonas Brothers. I'm Joe. I'm Kevin.
