Starting point is 00:00:00 This is an I-Heart podcast. Guaranteed Human. Another podcast from some SNL, late-night comedy guy, not quite. Unhumor me with Robert Smygel and friends. Me and hilarious guests from Bob Odenkirk to David Letterman help make you funnier. This week, my guest, SNL's Mikey Day and head writer, Streeter Seidel, help an a cappella band with their between songs banter.
Starting point is 00:00:23 Where does your group perform? We do some retirement homes. Those people are starving for banter. Listen to humor me with Robert Smigel and friends on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Imagine an Olympics where doping is not only legal, but encouraged. It's the enhanced games. Some call it grotesque.
Starting point is 00:00:42 Others say it's unleashing human potential. Either way, the podcast's Superhuman documented it all, embedded in the games and with the athletes for a full year. Within probably 10 days, I'd put on 10 pounds. I was having trouble stopping the muscle growth. Listen to Superhuman on the I-Hard Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Hey, this is Robert from the Stuff to Blow Your Mind podcast. You're listening to Fox Sports Radio. Ah, here we go.
Starting point is 00:02:01 24 hours away from the draft, Warriors, Lakers, big games tonight. Nicks as well. What a day. Live in L.A., it's the herd, wherever you may be, and however you may be listening. Thanks for making us part of your day. Ohio State football coach Ryan Day, going to be joining us in one hour. J. Mack, tonight, and tomorrow night. Tonight we get the Knicks, the Warriors, the Lakers.
Starting point is 00:02:30 You know at the end of yesterday's show, I was talking a couple days ago about I was hearing some trade stuff done and then the jets percolated. We may have something later today, an NFL trade. Really? Percolating, not finalized. This is definitely a busy 48 hours with four NBA, three potential elimination games tonight, draft tomorrow. I'm fired up. I know. Next, I told my wife, 48 hours.
Starting point is 00:02:59 Make soup. I'm not leaving the house for the next two days. So Aaron Rogers, the video's out this morning. He's in the Jets facility. It's pretty cool. It's going to be at least nine great months. A lot of smiles. The owners, Robert Sala, the GM.
Starting point is 00:03:14 It's an exciting time. Now, Richard Sherman still does not like the way Green Bay handled it, even though it was going to end pretty soon anyway. Richard Sherman, former NFL great podcaster at the volume, said this. I don't think Jordan Love is quarterback in the future, Green Bay. You had a great quarterback for 30 years? Good job. Welcome to mediocrity.
Starting point is 00:03:38 I guarantee you every NFC North team is excited to see Jordan Love. It's static. Nobody will fear you going forward. Understand that. There is not a game somebody's going to see the Green Bay Packers in without Aaron Rogers in the Jersey and have fear for you. That's true. But it was going to end very quickly anyway.
Starting point is 00:04:01 Aaron's words, I was 90% out of the darkness retreat going to retire. So Green Bay said we can get a couple of great draft picks. They did. Or Aaron retires and we get none. We're pretty good at the draft and development thing. Let's get some draft picks. It's going to end anyway. What's the old saying pigs get fed, hogs get slaughtered,
Starting point is 00:04:22 We're just going to end it a year early. We could get nothing. Let's get something. And something really good. A first round pick, maybe, a couple of second round picks. Outside of John Elway with the Broncos and maybe Derek Jeter with the Yankees. Anything that's ever been great for a long time in sports almost never ends gracefully. Michael Jordan and the Bulls ended with animosity.
Starting point is 00:04:46 Brady and Belichick's dynasty ended with animosity. Kobe, Shaq, Phil Jackson ended. with animosity. Farvin Green Bay. Dan Marino in Miami ended with turbulence. I mean, all Laker fans will tell you, Jerry West, Phil Jackson, Pat Riley, all of those end bumpy in L.A. All of them.
Starting point is 00:05:07 Even Jerry West. He was Mr. Laker. So that's the way it ends. Even the Beatles ended with turbulence, ugly, animosity. Maybe it's men needing control, needing leverage, a pat on the back. But I look at the Jets and I'm like, hey, it's not going to last very long. This is a one or a two-year deal. A lot of smiles. Can't wait to watch it. But this stuff always ends poorly. Green Bay simply said, listen, we can get greedy here and try to squeeze every ounce of juice out of this thing with Aaron Rogers.
Starting point is 00:05:43 Or we can get a couple of great picks. Give this kid we moved up to get a couple of years ago. Give him a fighting chance. We'll know by Thanksgiving if he complies. But in the building three years, our guess is he can play. We're not exactly sure. We don't think he's Mahomes. He's not Zach Wilson. But the reality is a little bit like all commodities, you want to get greedy and get every last ounce out of it?
Starting point is 00:06:09 Yeah, the Bulls could have brought everybody back for one more run. But they were old. They were wearing on each other. The GM didn't like the star. The star didn't like the owner and the GM. So the Packers got about as much as you can get out of two quarks. quarterbacks, Farrvin Aaron Rogers. Both times they moved off in the end and they've been fine. And my guess is they'll probably be a little less than fine going forward, but I get it.
Starting point is 00:06:36 It was ending anyway. Okay. So now officially the Carolina Panthers have the number one pick and there is a consensus in the building. And the Will Levis rumors continue. But here's the thing. everybody in the building now, and the betting markets have moved toward Bryce Young. But here's the thing I was thinking about this morning. So Frank Reich, a former NFL quarterback, he's really, really good at doing something. He's really good at taking a big, strong quarterback who's got a little bit of a wild side and polishing him up. Andrew Luck, Philip Rivers, and Carson Wentz. All three, big, strong.
Starting point is 00:07:22 guys. Two can move really well, and they all had a wild streak. So if you look at Andrew Luck, his year with Frank Reich, he completed 67% of his throws and a passer rating of almost 99. Andrew Luck, if you take out that year, completed about 60% of his throws. So look at Andrew Luck, I'm showing the TV audience now with and without Frank Wright. Completion percentage pass a rating significantly better. All right, let's take Philip Rivers. That one year with Frank Reich, again, he's got a wild side. Charger fans would tell you that with Philip Rivers. He had 11 picks.
Starting point is 00:08:00 If you look at Philip Rivers' career, he averaged over 14 picks. So it was a very old Philip Rivers that wasn't athletic, but he cleaned Philip Rivers up. And then you look at Carson Wentz. Carson Wentz, the year before Frank Reich had him, had 15 picks. Frank Wright cut it in half, down to seven picks. So if you look at what Frank Reich's history is, give me a big, strong quarterback who's got a wild side and I'll polish him up. And that's why the Will Levis rumors from a Reddit board are interesting. That's exactly what Will Levis is.
Starting point is 00:08:46 That's exactly what he is. smart, big, athletic with a wild side. And remember, Frank Reich looks at a Bryce Young and says, I can't make him bigger and stronger. He's already polished. I can't make him any bigger and stronger. And that's why there were rumors early on Anthony Richardson with the number one pick. That's what Frank does. He refines it, cleans it up, polishes.
Starting point is 00:09:13 But I think a lot of people, the ones I've talked to, just think Anthony Richardson. Richardson is, he's got so far to go. Will Levis doesn't have that far to go. So, you know, I don't go to Reddit boards. I had to ask the staff about Reddit boards this morning. They told me Reddit boards are about as accurate as responses on Twitter. And that's why I don't go to Reddit boards. They're message boards. I got no interest. But that doesn't mean occasionally somebody doesn't have a gem on Bitcoin or a celebrity divorce or somebody knows somebody and apparently Will Levis has told people somebody in his family, tell somebody on a Reddit board, I'm going number one.
Starting point is 00:09:54 I get the rumor. I absolutely get the rumor because Frank Reich is a teacher and a mentor. There's nothing he can do with Bryce Young's size. I mean, Tua is small. Bryce Young is smaller. And Jaylen Hertz and Russell Wilson were a little undersized, but they're thick. Bryce Young's slender. I mean, when you watch this video right now, this is college football, he looks tiny. There's nothing Frank Wright can do. He can't do anything with that. So I think Bryce Young is the best college quarterback and the best high school
Starting point is 00:10:29 quarterback over the last six years of video I have seen, high school and college. He's ready to play. But even I, as a fan, have said, I don't think he lasts 10 years. I don't think he lasts eight. I think you're looking at a guy that stabilizes Carolina accurate. smart, moves well, sees the field, and that bad division can win games immediately. That's what I see. But Frank Reich, there's just certain things he can't do with Bryce Young, and I think he
Starting point is 00:10:57 looks at that arm with Will Levis, and that size with Will Levis, and that athleticism with Will Levis, and I bet they've had real arguments in the room about it. Here's Frank Wright yesterday talking about the conversation he had this week with GM Scott Fitter. He actually said he came in my office yesterday at some point and asked the question. You know, it's kind of like a proposal of sorts, you know. But, and I said yes. No, there is consensus and we're excited. I wouldn't say there's any drastic change of mind, but there's ebbs and flows of how much you like a guy.
Starting point is 00:11:34 And that's why you have to resist the temptation to make your mind up too early. Take it day by day. Go on these visits, watch tape. go through the process, continue to evaluate and talk it through. So I would take Bryce Young, J-MAC, who would you take? I do believe there is an argument. I said this. If you squint hard enough, you can see a little bit of Andrew Luck with Will Levis.
Starting point is 00:12:00 I get Jim Ursay seeing it. I get Frank Wright seeing it. Like, I get you look and you're like, smart, big arm, mobile, didn't win a ton of games in college, but wasn't surrounded by a lot of. NFL guys. That's an Andrew Luck story too. I would take Bryce Young. You? Yeah, I know you're not going to like this answer. I wouldn't take any of the quarterbacks won. I don't think any of them are worthy of their number one pick. I don't think any of them are going to set the world on fire. I know you have to take a quarterback. If you don't have one, you're like, oh, we got to take one. But at this
Starting point is 00:12:29 point, it just feels, Colin, like, I'm sorry, I don't love any of these three guys. And it's difficult to talk a coach and a front office and a billionaire into, hey, next year's the year. Let's get all the pieces in place and then go for a quarterback next year at the top. I don't love any of these guys, Colin. I think that's a very fair opinion. Ryan Day, Ohio State coach joins us top of next hour. Be sure to catch live editions of the herd weekdays in noon Eastern 9 a.m. Pacific on Fox Sports Radio, FS1, and the IHard Radio app.
Starting point is 00:12:59 Imagine an Olympics where doping is not only legal but encouraged. It's the enhanced games. Some call it grotesque. Others say it's unleashing human potential. Either way, the podcast, Superhuman, documented it all, embedded in the games and with the athletes for a full year. Within probably 10 days, I'd put on 10 pounds. I was having trouble stopping the muscle growth. Listen to Superhuman on the I-Hard Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts.
Starting point is 00:13:28 A win is a win. A win is a win. I don't care which I'm saying. Yep, that's me, Cliver Taylor the 4th. You might have seen the skits, the reactions, my journey from basketball to college football or my career in sports media. Well, somewhere along the way, this platform became bigger than I ever imagined. And now I'm bringing all of that excitement to my brand new podcast, The Clifford Show.
Starting point is 00:13:50 This is a place for raw, unfiltered conversations with some of your favorite athletes, creators, and voices that not only deserve to be heard, but celebrated. One week, I'll take you behind the scenes of the biggest moments in sports and entertainment, and the next we'll talk about life, mental health, purpose, and even music. The Clifford Show isn't just a podcast. It's a space for honest conversations, stories that don't always get told, and for people who are chasing something bigger. So, if you've ever supported me or you're just chasing down a dream,
Starting point is 00:14:18 this is right where you need to be. Listen to The Clifford Show on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcast. And for more behind the scenes, follow at Clifford and at TikTok Podcast Network on TikTok. Do you remember when Diana Ross double-tapped Little Kim's boobs at the VMAs? Or when Kanye said that George Bush didn't like black people. I know what you're thinking. What the hell does George Bush got to do a little kill?
Starting point is 00:14:42 Well, you can find out on the Look Back at it podcast. I'm Sam J. And I'm Alex English. Each episode, we pick it here, unpack what went down, and try to make sense of how we survived it. Including a recent episode with Mark Lamont Hill, waxing all about crack in the 80s. To be clear, 84 is big to me, not just because of crack.
Starting point is 00:15:02 I'm down to talk about crack on day, but just so y'all know. I mean, at this point, Mark, this is the second episode where we've discussed. So I'm starting to see that there's a through line. We also have AIDS on the table right now. Thank you for finishing that sentence. I don't think there's a more important year for black people. Really? Yeah.
Starting point is 00:15:21 For me, it's one of the most important years for black people in American history. Listen to look back at it on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. So J-Mack's favorite, Trey Young, 38 points. Felt like about half were in the fourth quarter. Atlanta shot their way to a win. And I'm watching this series now. Boston's the better team. I don't understand why it's 3-2.
Starting point is 00:15:45 I don't understand why these games were as close. I've watched parts of every one of these games. And I'm always drawn to the same stuff. Is that all the concerns with the Celtics last night, we saw him again. Jason Tatum shrinks. One for 10 on threes. Rookie head coach? Did he get out coached by a veteran head coach?
Starting point is 00:16:02 Quinn Snyder. They couldn't stop a red-hot point guard like they couldn't stop Steph Curry in the finals last year. Who's their real leader? Jalen Brown was the star last night. When you watch the Celtics play, these are the concerns, and they all rear their head last night. The series shouldn't be this close.
Starting point is 00:16:19 They're dominating the glass, controlling the glass. They have 274 points in the paint. They have two legit stars. We don't even know if Atlanta players like Trey Young. Why didn't they embrace him after the three-point shot? Everybody seems to love Boston's two. they have, they're one of the best passing teams because this group's been together forever. They're a better defensive team.
Starting point is 00:16:41 So even when the Celtics win, why are they leading by like five or six points late in games? It doesn't make a lot of sense. Maybe it's this simple with the Celtics. We've seen it for three years. They're just different variations of pretty good. They don't have a turbo boost like the Warriors do led by an all-time or stuff. They don't have a turbo boost like the heat. had led by LeBron and D. Wade. Most great teams, all-time great teams, have two great players.
Starting point is 00:17:12 Bird and McHale, Duncan and Parker, LeBron and Wade, and Shaq and Kobe, and Steph and KD. The question is, do the Celtics have won? This series shouldn't be close. Better defense, dominating on the interior, playing together for years, great culture. Everybody likes everybody. I mean, you watch when Tray Young hits that shot. Why doesn't anybody hover around him for the Hawks? Do they even like him? Rumors he's going to be sent packing. It shouldn't be this close.
Starting point is 00:17:44 And I think the question becomes everybody likes Jason Tatum. But again last night, I feel like Jalen Brown's the more aggressive alpha in the relationship. Who do I want taking big shots? And I've been saying this all season. It's a weird way to go. Shaq and Kobe, when they were together, were the two best closers. in the league. You had the best interior closer and the best perimeter closer. And that was a problem. I mean, even though they won championships, it was combative. Here, I'm like, well, neither one's the
Starting point is 00:18:16 best perimeter closer or interior closer. They're both very good wing closers, but I'm not sure people in the room absolutely believe Jason Tatum's always the best wing closer. I don't know. I watched that game and I come down to once again, they're just good. Where's the turbobo? Why can't they put this team away? I mean, they get a little sloppy. Their star has an off-night shooting, and they're losing it home to an Atlanta team? I mean, Atlanta was hot,
Starting point is 00:18:45 but it just doesn't make a lot of sense on paper. Here's Jalen Brown after. I think that, you know, we had some bonehead plays, some fouls, and, you know, gave them some opportunities to get going. We just got to finish the game, our mindset, for whatever reason. you know, we missed some shots, but, you know, we just let the game get away for us a little bit.
Starting point is 00:19:10 And they just hit shot after shot down the line. And you give a team life, you know, then you leave it up to chance. And that's what we did tonight. I don't know. Steph Curry called a timeout and they didn't have a timeout. Warriors missed lots of shots and they're still beating. I consider a much better team in Sacramento over Atlanta. Are the Celtics just good?
Starting point is 00:19:32 we've seen the ceiling. There's no turbo boost. There is no there beyond what they currently are. Because I watch this series and I can't figure it out. They should be clobbering this team. This series should be over. J-Mac with the news. No, no, no, no.
Starting point is 00:19:48 Turn on the news. This is the herd line news. They have 274 points in the paint. I hope the audience can see what you just did. That was a master stroke there. The Trey Young shot was big. Teammates didn't celebrate. I posted that on IG and a bunch of people were like, oh, there was still eight seconds left.
Starting point is 00:20:05 No, no, no, no, no. They should have been celebrating with Trace. You got to dig it, Tray. And then the Tatum stuff. He was one of ten from three last night. He can't have an off night? I mean, you know, Kevin Booker got outplayed by Russell Westbrook in the opening game in the playoffs. So the Celtics are the better defensive team.
Starting point is 00:20:19 They have better chemistry. They have better experience. They have two legit stars. They are at home. Why aren't they winning these games? My argument would be Adela is a really good offensive team. They can play with anybody in the East. They were throwing up threes last night.
Starting point is 00:20:34 And they're making a lot of them. I mean, Bogdanovich is making shots. Cedique Bayes not terrible. They got a good team. Just they can't stop anybody. And the Boston matchup is terrible. Listen, I think the Celtics were up 11 in the fourth quarter? No, no.
Starting point is 00:20:46 When I'm sitting there on the treadmill and I'm like, and then all of a sudden, Atlanta's shooting their way back into it. Now, part of it is what's happening in basketball. You saw this the other night with Miami against Milwaukee. Is we live in this era now where you can be out. played for huge chunks of the game. And if you want a four minute stretch and hit five threes, you're right back into it. So some of this is culturally basketball has changed,
Starting point is 00:21:09 is that 11 point deficits are just not that big of a deal. 20 point deficits are not huge. You go down 30. It's probably over. I should point out, last night, three big favorites. Underdogs went 3 and 0 against the spread with one outright win with Atlanta. All right, let's get to the NFL coward. Ah yes, Aaron Rogers. It's going to be, early and often on this show. Do you see those smiles in the building today? Oh, yeah. People are giddy.
Starting point is 00:21:35 A lot of Jets fans here. The hype is building. Sauce Gardner added a little fuel last night when he appeared on the Slow Newsday podcast with Kevin Clark. Here's what Sauce Gardner, the best quarterback in the NFL had to say. Is this a playoff team this year? Does the drought end this year?
Starting point is 00:21:52 Oh, yeah, most definitely. We was a playoff team last year. You know, we just, we didn't finish like we, like we were supposed to. I mean, but with A-Rog joining in a few more new pieces, you know, that just makes it like, you know, easy. He's not wrong. And, oh, by the way, the Jets maintain their first round pick, and they have a second round pick. They're going to be able to, and remember last year, their draft picks, impact guys.
Starting point is 00:22:18 They're interesting. So they moved back to 15. They swap with the Packers. Not a big deal. So that is going to allow them a couple of options, probably to get the second best tackle. in the draft, probably. Maybe third, but... Maybe third.
Starting point is 00:22:33 So, Broderick Jones, Georgia. So they could get the third best tackle, or I don't think the star receiver from Ohio State's going to be there. It could get them, though, potentially the best tight end. So if you can choose that first round pick, what would you take? Again, I don't want to punt, but at 15, if the tackles are gone, if there's a run and Skoronski and Jones... Scorovsky and Parris Johnson, they're gone.
Starting point is 00:22:58 Okay. I'm looking around and saying, can I trade down a few picks? Does somebody want to come up for a quarterback who's fallen, deep edge rush or whatever? Jets don't really need one. Is there a case to trade down and get a couple more picks? Because I'm just telling you right now, this Jets roster is very good. You don't want to put the Jets roster on the board against Miami or Buffalo, but they're stacked. Young talent everywhere, Colleen.
Starting point is 00:23:20 Very, very young talent, some off injuries. Very young talent. And a couple people have alluded to this. keep an eye on several veterans maybe getting shipped here right around draft time. Jonah Williams for the Bengals, remember he's asked for a trade because they made a move. DeAndre Hopkins is out there. Like, things are going to happen. This next 72 hours.
Starting point is 00:23:41 Yeah, Jonah Williams, O-Linman for the Bengals is interesting because they went out and grabbed that tackle from the Chiefs. And so he's out there. He's more of a B, he's not an A, but he's been in the league. He's a starter, maybe on the right side, but he's highly paid. see what happens. But again, 10, 11 wins for the Jets, I think, is the floor. It's the floor now. Healthy, when healthy, I've got to add that, obviously. That's the floor. Yeah, now listen, if Rogers is stinking it up and he's hurt and there are four wins in November, you sit him down, you don't give up the first round pick. Let me taste something. Outside
Starting point is 00:24:14 of Kansas City, I don't think there is an 11-win floor in the league, but you just proclaimed it, so I'm interested to watch. Listen, Ryan Day's coming on the show. Things don't work out with Sala. Maybe the Jets are putting in a call to Mr. Day in the offseason. You got to play both sides, Coward. Next up, Caleb Williams entering his junior year at USC. Man, he was spectacular last year. He's so good. Unbelievable stuff.
Starting point is 00:24:35 And an anonymous NFL quarterback coach made a major comp when speaking with the athletics, Bruce Feldman. Caleb Williams is the closest I've seen to Mahomes. He's like a refined Mahomes. It's hard to compare anybody to Mahomes, but he really does play like him. I don't think his arm is quite like that, but it's definitely special for college. It's not quite as freaky as Pat's, but it's upper level for the NFL. One of the things that I've been around, I just saw Caleb a couple weeks ago at the spring game and went up and said hi.
Starting point is 00:25:06 One of the things that's interesting about Caleb, so I'm 6'2 and I think I'm about a half inch taller than him, maybe an inch. So I think he's about 6'1. But when you're with, when you look at him, you don't think about size. He's thick. He's got, he's a very, when you watch him here, does he look small? No, he doesn't. Bryce Young looks small. He is, you know, people forget this with Mahomes.
Starting point is 00:25:29 Mahomes is 6-2. So I do think this is Mahomes. I think he sees the field, his escapeability. I don't think it's a crazy comp. I mean, people were saying Joe Burrow was Brady and nobody freaked out. I think this is the Mahomes comp. I think he's a more refined, more winning college version of him. The only thing I don't like about this is it's so much hype for a guy who's basically played, what, a year and a half in college?
Starting point is 00:25:53 I don't think he played the full year. at Oklahoma. Did he? Didn't it take over for Rattler? Right. But here's my thing, is it's actually good. Is it? Well, because USC is different than most college programs. It's in a major market. It's LA media. So I've always argued this. If you're a quarterback, go to USC or UCLA, it's major market NFL media. It's not like rural where everybody's a fan of Alabama and everybody is pom-poms. It's grown-up media, grown-up criticism, grown-up expectations. You live in a big city. You're going to go outside of Green Bay to a big city. So it's not a jarring place. USC and UCLA both. Okay. Let me play the other side of that. If I was a college quarterback,
Starting point is 00:26:35 those two would be on the top of my list. Yeah, but do you know what the distractions are going to be like here for Caleb Williams in L.A.? Do you know how many invites he's getting to? Red carpets, movie premieres, parties. That's actually what happens in the NFL. So it's a great, great entry into the NFL is being USC's quarterback. The problem is he's not in the NFL, and he may start thinking like I'm in the NFL and not grinding away and working as hard. I know you're in with the family. You are on a first name basis with the best quarterback in college football, but I'm just saying, stay grounded, young man. You still have to get there. We've seen a lot of quarterbacks at one good year,
Starting point is 00:27:10 and then it's like, oh, he's not the same guy he was. Did you see a USC picked up another elite offensive lineman in the portal this morning? I did not. I'm not on the transfer portal in college football in April. I'm sorry. Apologies. Final story. Oh, gosh. Deeran Fox, what a first round. You know, I've been saying he's been the best player in the playoffs, but I think Devin Booker has passed him.
Starting point is 00:27:31 D. Book is just going off. But Fox, fractured finger on the ring, on his, is it, the index figure? You can't really see anything here in practice. He's just got a little tape job on it. See, on his left hand. And he says, forget about this doubtfulness. Here's what Deeran Fox said.
Starting point is 00:27:48 Now there's no if, and the but I'm playing. For me right now, it's just a tolerance on like the pad of my finger, making sure I can shoot the ball. As we got going, as kind of the pain started going away, I felt like I'd do my normal shot, so I think I'll be good. In the day, I'm fine, I can shoot the ball. And at this point in the season, everybody has something.
Starting point is 00:28:12 Obviously a bone might not be chipped, but something is hurting on everybody. So you go out there and you still, still play the game. I'm not worried about it. What a guy. It's a professional. Don't you think it matters a little, though? Of course. Yeah, I mean, if I'd put Draymond on him, get physical, you got to get, you have a, you have a,
Starting point is 00:28:33 but then Drayman gets in foul trouble or something. Dreyman starts to chirp. Do you feel different about this game tonight because of this? I do. Warriors are favored by one and a half. Well, I think it's a very close game. What's interesting about this game, Golden State's been a bad road team all year.
Starting point is 00:28:49 Now, they've played better on the road against Sacramento, but they've lost. And so what happened when Draymond and Gary Payton were out? The Warrior role players at home played over their head, and it was their best defensive game. Moses Moody. My guest tonight is Sacramento wins because their role players at home play above themselves, like the Warriors young role players did, and I think Sacramento wins. I think everybody in the world, when that D-Daron Fox thing came out, went, oh, brother, it's over.
Starting point is 00:29:18 Well, Sacramento King players are hearing that. So I think their role, you know, we know this to be true. Roll players in the playoffs disappear on the road, but they're great at home. And I mean, it was just a few days ago that literally Gary Payton and Draymond Green were out, their two best defensive players, and yet they had, the Warriors did, their best defensive game. Yeah. I think Sacramento tonight plays inspired. They play, knowing everybody has to play a little,
Starting point is 00:29:46 harder and I actually think they beat the dubs. So I will say that the extra day off, they got two days off in between these two, is massive because Steve Kerr shrunk his bench last game. There was video, I don't know if you saw it, of Cominga with a towel over his head, he played three minutes. And he was like despondent. Like, why am I not playing? And Igu Dala had to come over and talk to him.
Starting point is 00:30:05 And like, I don't think Kerr messes around with his bench. I think he's tightened up the rotation. What is Pat Riley, the famous saying, I play eight, but I trust seven. I think he's going to shrink it a lot. Yeah. And that day off helps. Huge. Like you can play curry 43 minutes in this. Draymond Green said going into this series, I think you brought it up, is that Draymond said this is great for us because of the travel.
Starting point is 00:30:28 These are bus rides. That's fair. And it is a, you know, I think they just ride a bus. For an old team, travel, days off mean more, and travel is more punitive. So the Warriors, I think we both felt got a bit of a break in this series. they were facing an inexperienced team that's, you know, a couple suburbs away. It's not very far away. That was a big break for them.
Starting point is 00:30:51 And this scheduling break, because the fractured finger or the bone for Deerun Fox, it's not going to get healthier in 24 hours. It is what it is. But to give Draymond Green another day's rest is gigantic at this point in his career. And this applies to the Lakers Grizzlies, too, okay? No extra day off for LeBron and Anthony Davis after playing overtime in 40-plus minutes. There's a tough spot for the Lakers tonight. And you don't want to mess around with this Grizzly's team.
Starting point is 00:31:16 All it takes is Desmond Bain to get hot. You know, Jamarant to actually make shots. Like, none of these series are over. I know 3-1 seems big, but... Can you believe Milwaukee? Yeah, that Milwaukee game tonight. Listen, there's four games on tonight, starting at like 4.30. Oh, no, no, I'm on the treadmill at 4 o'clock.
Starting point is 00:31:33 I may just stay on it till 9. Oh, okay. Five hours. I'll come in tomorrow famished. Yeah. Great stuff. Jay Mack with the news. Well, that's the news.
Starting point is 00:31:42 And thanks for stopping by. The Herd Lod. I know. Hold on. Just getting a little. We could have some, we're going to get a trade. We're going to get some movement in the NFL draft. And I, we're going to get movement. I'll just leave it at that. Be sure to catch live editions of the herd weekdays in noon Eastern 9 a.m. Pacific. Hey, what's up everybody? It's me three-time Pro Bowl of LaVore Arrington and I couldn't be more excited to announce a new podcast called Up on Game. What is Up on Game, you ask?
Starting point is 00:32:13 along with my fellow pro-bowler, T.J. Hushmanzada and Super Bowl champion. Yep, that's right. Plexico Burris. You can only name a show with that type of talent on it. Up on Game. We're going to be sharing our real-life experiences loaded with teachable moments. Listen to Up on Game with me, LaVar Arrington, T.J. Hushman Zada and Plexico Burris on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcast, or wherever you get your podcast from. Imagine an Olympics where doping is not only legal but encouraged.
Starting point is 00:32:48 It's the enhanced games. Some call it grotesque. Others say it's unleashing human potential. Either way, the podcast's Superhuman documented it all, embedded in the games and with the athletes for a full year. Within probably 10 days, I'd put on 10 pounds. I was having trouble stopping the muscle growth. Listen to Superhuman on the I-Hard Radio app,
Starting point is 00:33:10 Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. A win is a win. A win is a win. I don't care what you're saying. Yep, that's me, Clifford Taylor the 4th. You might have seen the skits, the reactions,

Or when Kanye said that George Bush didn't like black people. I know what you're thinking. What the hell does George Bush got to do with Little Kim?
Starting point is 00:34:27 Well, you can find out on the Look Back at it podcast. I'm Sam J. And I'm Alex English. Each episode, we pick it here, unpack what went down, and try to make sense of how we survived it. including a recent episode with Mark Lamont Hill waxing all about crack in the 80s. To be clear, 84 was big to me, not just because of crack. I'm down to talk about crack on day, but just so y'all know.
Starting point is 00:34:51 I mean, at this point, Mark, this is the second episode where we've discussed crack, so I'm starting to see that there's a through line. We also have AIDS on the table right now, so... Thank you for finishing that sentence. Yes, I don't think there's a more important year for black people. Really? Yeah. For me, it's one of the most important years.
Starting point is 00:35:08 from black people in American history. Listen to look back at it on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Catch week three of the USFL season on Fox starting Saturday as the Memphis Showboats take on the Houston gamblers at 7 Eastern. Then on Sunday, the New Jersey Generals take on the Michigan Panthers at 4 Eastern, all on Fox and the Fox Sports app. So the Aaron Rogers trade to the Jets, and again for our TV audience,
Starting point is 00:35:37 there's all sorts of video. Aaron walking into the Jets facility. He's got the Jets hoodie on, a lot of smiles. He's got a press conference today. Aaron Rogers trade means the Cowboys, Dak Prescott now holds the title that doesn't really seem possible. This is crazy. So here's the top five longest tenured quarterbacks,
Starting point is 00:35:57 along with when they made their first start. This is just crazy that it's these five guys. Dak Prescott is now the longest tenured quarterback in the NFL, Week 1 of 2016. Mahalms, Kirk Cousins, who feels like he's been in Minnesota forever, right? Josh Allen, who's still a pup, and Lamar Jackson. We don't know where it's going to go. So here's what it feels like to me.
Starting point is 00:36:21 The more valuable the quarterback position has become in the NFL, the quicker the hook. You're not going to sit there with average. It just means too much. The strange thing is the maverick, the big risk taker, the contrarian Jerry Jones is doubling down on the opposite. He wants stability with Dak. And I was thinking about this this morning. When Jerry Jones took a big swing and moved off Jimmy Johnson, he's 50. Jerry's 80.
Starting point is 00:36:55 Jerry's in the buying yachts phase of his wealth. He's enjoying the riches of it. And since Dak Prescott has become the quarterback in 2016, the Cowboys win percentage is tied for sixth. Dak's good for business. Dak is polarizing. That's good for business. Dak wins 10 games annually and vise for his division title.
Starting point is 00:37:23 That's good for business. Dak is loyal to Jerry Jones. That's good for business. Jerry is out of the big swing business. He talks a good game. But that was Jerry at 50 and 55 and maybe 60. He was ascending his fortune, his net worth. Jerry now is one of the richest people in the face of the earth.
Starting point is 00:37:45 He's buying yachts. As long as the cowboys are viable, the money's rolling in. He stacked chips, low interest bonds. There's no reason to take a big swing. And Dak Prescott wins you ten. Keeps on TV. Actually, there's an argument that his polarize, If you don't have Patrick Mahomes or a Joe Burrell,
Starting point is 00:38:05 and there's two of those on the planet, right? Dak is in that next group. He's a grown-up. He's not going to get in trouble. He's kind of polarizing. He gets discussed. You can win the division. So I just think Jerry's moved into a different phase.
Starting point is 00:38:21 And as the rest of the league is moving off people, Jerry's like, I want my former Cowboys on TV. I got Aikman on ESPN now. I got, you know, I got Tony Romo's on CBS. Dak keeps me in the discussion. Never forget the Green Bay Packers in the 80s before Brett Farve went about 15 years and nobody talked about him. And Jerry wants to get talked about. He's not 50. He's 80. I think he's viewed as such a big risk taker. I don't think he is anymore. I think it's about stability. And DAC is tied for sixth in winning percentage since he
Starting point is 00:38:57 started. What you don't want to be in this league is God awful at quarterback. That is what you don't want to be. Ryan Day, Ohio State football coach, joining us next hour at the very top. So you saw the Phoenix Suns won last night. Forget balance scoring. Booker had 47 and DeAndre 8 and had 21 and, you know, Kevin Durant's in the 30s. They don't really do balance scoring in Phoenix. They have literally no bench.
Starting point is 00:39:23 But the Clippers season now is over again. But there is a lot of good news here. There's four things that are good news for the Clippers. And we don't talk Clippers very much because they're the number two brand in their own building. Here's the good news is that they don't have an owner issue. They don't have a city issue. They're not in a small market. They don't have a coach issue.
Starting point is 00:39:46 Those are big barriers in the NBA to winning. So they got the right owner, the right coach, and the right city. Free agents like L.A. Secondly, this is good news. Westbrook's a free agent. So you got the very best Russell Westbrook over the last several years. years, but you can move off him. Last night, again, another awful Westbrook shooting night. You got the very best of Russell Westbrook, but he moves off. Number three is,
Starting point is 00:40:12 Paul George and Kauai only have one year left. It's not one of these NBA or baseball deals where you're tied with guys for years and years. And the other thing is, and I think this is a big part of it. Number four is everybody knows what the issue is, Kauai's body. Maybe Kauai, he's just, It's not going to work. We said yesterday. He's Jimmy Butler, except never available. But everybody in the building knows what the issue is. It's not the coach.
Starting point is 00:40:43 It's not the owner. It's not the city. It's not the roster. It's not the executives. It's not the scouts. The clippers are very, very well-run. God, they brought Westbrook in, and we all shrieked. We're all like, this is, that's the best Westbrook I've seen in a long time.
Starting point is 00:40:56 Westbrook even worked. I mean, every other game. And then every other game, he's three for 18. But you got the very best of Westbrook and old Westbrook, and he's a free agent and moves on. Good for him. But a lot of times when companies struggle, there's a lot of businesses that are like the salvage business,
Starting point is 00:41:14 like real estate, real estate billionaires. Okay, it's a bad move. It didn't work. You try to salvage it. Retail. All right, that didn't move. Let's lower the price. Let's salvage it.
Starting point is 00:41:27 But Steve Balmer's a tech guy. In tech, you don't necessarily. try to salvage stuff. You dump it. Google Glass. Didn't work. What was the Quibi? Didn't work. Get rid of it. Tech, tech billionaires tend to move off stuff if it doesn't work. Let's move off it. It's like, yeah, Disney Metaverse. Yeah, it's not going to work. We're out. Steve Balmer, I don't think he's going to try to salvage Kauai Leonard. I think it's over. They may have to keep him for a year, but I don't think he's going to try to salvage it or talk himself into it, that's not Steve Bulber. Where a billionaire comes from matters. Steve Balmer comes
Starting point is 00:42:08 from a world that you take big swings, and if it doesn't work, you move on. You don't pout, you don't try to salvage it. You move on. It didn't work. It's okay. Facebook's had bombs. I mean, they've all had bombs. Google's had bombs. They've all had big swings, Apple, stuff that just doesn't work. You move on. You forget about it. You don't try to make the most you can out of it. And I think that's where the clippers are. I think everybody in the building knows what the issue is. The foundational pieces are excellent. They just, their stars never healthy. The word came out today. What was it? An MCL? Like it's a meniscus tear. What are you going to do? He was hurt. Couldn't play. It wasn't a load management situation. So, I mean,
Starting point is 00:43:00 again, there's a lot of businesses where salvaging something that didn't work is really part of the fabric of the business. I think Ballroom is just going to get out of this thing eventually. Whenever he can, the first minute he can, he's going to take another big swing into his new arena. Think I'm nuts? Yeah. Not at all. I think that makes a ton of sense. But the problem is who's taking Kauai Leonard, who is always hurt? Like who wants it? Who's willing to take a swing at? Do we have any teams that we can float? I keep saying this. You know, I said this. If the Warriors lose this series and they're sitting there thinking, we got to find somebody on Steph's timeline.
Starting point is 00:43:39 I can see them going and getting AD and saying AD's got about two more big years left with his health. Steph's got two to three years left. It's all timeline. Let's say the Celtics, a prime example of the Celtics. So Al Horford's old. And Jason Tatum, Marcus Smart plays a lot. Brown plays a lot. Jason Tatum plays a lot.
Starting point is 00:43:58 You don't need a fourth star who plays a lot. You need a guy that's an alpha and gets a bucket or a stop. So what if Boston loses again? What if Philadelphia looks around? It's like, how do we get past Milwaukee? How do we get past Boston? If you have a team where you, you know, I'll throw this out there. Dallas.
Starting point is 00:44:19 Dallas gets 75 games. Oh, don't do that to Luca, please. No, let me ask you. Wait, don't do that to Luca. Time out. Let me throw this at you. Kauai doesn't need the ball. Kauai can get the ball and shoot.
Starting point is 00:44:29 Forget about not needing the ball. He doesn't play, Colin. He's never available. But when he does play... Oh, come on. Hey, aren't you one of the guys? LeBron now plays 50 games a year. That's what you get with the bra.
Starting point is 00:44:41 Yeah, that's like double what Kauai plays. Well, no. I mean, come on. Well, again, Kauai missed a previous season. He's going to give you about 50 games. That's what LeBron gives you. How many games... Yeah, but at least you know when LeBron shows up at the arena,
Starting point is 00:44:53 he's not going to be like, ah, you know what, I'm taking the night off. You tell me that Kaui does this all the time. So this is perfect. So Kauai isn't your star. Dallas has one. Philadelphia has one. By the way, Miami has one. So what is Kauai?
Starting point is 00:45:07 Your two or your three? Kauai comes in, like in San Antonio and Toronto. You don't build your foundation or your culture around him. He's a hired gun. Comes in, get a basket, get a stop, 50 games a year. Jimmy Butler plays hurt all the time and is available. So is bam. So if you have an established.
Starting point is 00:45:27 culture and an established star, preferably one that plays 70 games a year. He's fine. Everybody loves LeBron. He's playing 50 games a year. AD's playing 55 games a year. This is amazingly optimistic from you on Kauai Leonard, a nonverbal star who is always hurt. Maybe he's got some degenerative knees or I don't know what's going on. He never plays. Philadelphia has got a highly verbal star, meaning nobody's going to care about Kauai's. Amb. M. B. B. takes all the oxygen from the press room. Doc Rivers, very verbal. You don't need your other guy to be, you've got, maxi's going to give you 70 games. So if you have a verbal, communicative leader, a culture's built, a veteran coach, and what you need is a bucket and a basket 50 nights a year.
Starting point is 00:46:16 There's value in that. Think about all the people we defend. Embeddied, how many games does he give you? We don't say we. I'm not an M.B.'s guy. How many games a year do you get from him? 60? 55? By the way, the Celtics screwing around last night and losing. Mbid now gets two extra days
Starting point is 00:46:32 to possibly come back. Remember, Doc Rivers like he may not be ready. I don't know. Now the series is pushed back because the Celtics couldn't close out of Atlanta. So,
Starting point is 00:46:40 I'm just not as bullish on Kauai Leonard as you. And remember, if you're a coach, you want to deal with that every night? Like just the stress of knowing, Jesus, Kauai gonna need the night off? Again, but if I have Luca, who I know plays every night,
Starting point is 00:46:54 again. Didn't we do that with Porzingis? Guy who's always hurt? I just, it's a tough cell, punning Kauai Leonard off on me when I know this guy's got a rich injury history. He doesn't talk. I think more of these old guys.
Starting point is 00:47:09 Kevin Durant's got a rich injury history. He shows up and delivers. Sometimes. Oh, power two. Live in L.A. next. Another podcast from some SNL late-night comedy guy, not quite. Unhumor me with Robert Smygel and friends,
Starting point is 00:47:25 me and hilarious guests, from Bob Odenkirk to David Letterman help make you funnier. This week, my guest, S&L's Mikey Day and head writer, Streeter Seidel, help an a cappella band with their between songs banter. Where does your group perform?
